92 armenian, georgetown, penang.
this bird’s nest specialty cafe is recommended by my brother, came here after lunch with cousin to catch up and enjoy some good desserts. the store has really nice interior and exterior, keeping the traditional feel, it’s definitely great for photos.
we ordered the egg tart for everyone, osmanthus jelly, soya bean with glutinous ball and chicken porridge to share. all of the food items has bird’s nest on/in it, it’s not very visible from photos, but you can definitely feel the smooth and jelly texture when eating.
the egg tart is awesome, very thin and fragrant crust with really smooth and soft egg custard in the middle and some bird’s nest on top, it’s highly recommended and definitely my favorite because it’s so delicious. the jelly is really enjoyable with the bouncy texture. chicken porridge is also very good, and actually quite big, so it does fill up the stomach a little, sharing is definitely a good idea.
we also get a pot of chrysanthemum tea to enjoy with our food, the staff is also really friendly, and i love all the bowls and plates design, it’s so classical, it matches with the vibe of the cafe perfectly. it’s definitely recommended as a dessert specialty place.

Detoured to Nine Fresh (九鲜) at Sun Plaza to buy their jelly desserts. Noticed that they have a new Osmanthus Ai-Yu Specials (桂花爱玉冻) promotion for the month of June. Ordered the Osmanthus Ai-Yu (B) for myself and Fruity Ai-Yu Jelly for mum. Both are priced at S$3.80 each plus I asked for red beans (S$0.70) add-ons for both the jellies. Luckily, I checked as the staff forgotten the red beans so she just scooped it on top of everything resulting in the messy appearances.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alas, when I opened the cover to eat, I found that she had also gotten my order wrong. :( Instead of the honey version of Osmanthus Ai-Yu (B), she gave me Osmanthus Ai-Yu (珍珠芦荟桂花冻)! It came with osmanthus ai-yu jelly, aloe vera cubes, black pearls and taro balls. I never like those chewy bubble tea pearls which is also the reason I don’t fancy bubble tea.
Tumblr media
Here is mum’s Fruity Ai-Yu Jelly (水果晶球爱玉冻). She enjoyed her ai-yu with fruity aloe vera pearl, mango pearl and konjac jellies. Also included with the dessert are milk and taro balls of different colours.

Desserts in China
There's quite a large variety of treats and desserts in China (more than you can imagine), so here are some of the most common ones!
Almond jelly/tofu - 杏仁豆腐 - xìngréndòufu Despite the name, almond jelly doesn't actually have almonds in it. Almond jelly is made from gelatin and almond milk, although some recepies use dairy milk instead.
Glutinous rice balls - 汤圆 - tāngyuán These rice balls are made from glutinous rice balls with a sweet filling, such as red bean paste (a pretty popular filling in desserts, I've been fooled more than once when purchasing what I assumed to be a chocolate filled pastry).
Red bean buns - 豆沙包 - dòushābāo One of my favorite desserts so far. These are steamed buns with a sweet red bean paste filling that I'd definitely recommend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Egg custard bun - 流沙包 - liúshābāo A sweet and savory bun, with a lava-like egg yolk filling. A pretty interesting dessert, as it's both sweet and savory.
Pumpkin cake - 南瓜饼 - nánguābǐng I haven't tried this yet, but it definitely looks good. A fried and crunchy cake with a sweet filling such as red bean paste.
Eight treasure rice pudding - 八宝饭 -bābǎofàn This is a pretty popular dessert, especially during the Lunar New Year. It gets this name becase of the toppings, which are eight or more different types of dried fruits and nuts arranged on top of the sweet rice, with (once again) red bean paste.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hawthorn stick/ Candied Haws/ Sugar coated haws/ Bingtanghulu - 冰糖葫芦 - bīngtánghúlu This treat has quite a few translations and you may have probably already seen it. This is basically candied fruit covered with a sweet, crunchy and sugary syrup. Traditionally, Hawthorn is used but other fruits such as grapes, strawberries and oranges are also popular options.
Sachima - 沙琪玛 - shāqímǎ I haven't tried this snack yet, but it looks quite fascinating. Sachima is made from fried batter stuck together with a sugary syrup, with an interesting texture.
Sesame balls - 芝麻球 - zhīmaqiú Similar to the rice glutinous balls, this treat is also made from glutinous rice flour with varying fillings including lotus seeds, mung bean and red beans, and sesame seeds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Water chestnut cake A sweet pan-fried cake made from chinese water chestnut, with a unique semi-transparent appearance.
Wintermelon puff/ Wife cake/ Sweetheartcake - 老婆餅 - lǎopóbǐng This cake has many names, mainly because it has several different origin stories, each more fascinating than the next. This dessert is a flaky pastry with wintermelon, almond (not red bean this time!) paste and sesame filling.
Fortune cake - 发糕 - fāgāo Not a fortune cookie! This is a spongy steamed cupcake cake commonly made for the New Lunar Year celebrations and occasionally other events. They're usually a white-ish or brown-ish color, but they're often dyed bright colors to add extra festivity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mooncake - 月饼 - yuèbǐng This is a pretty well-known dessert, commonly prepared for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Mooncakes are smallish steamd/fried (depends on the region) cakes with a sweet filling that can also sometimes have an egg yolk inside.
Osmanthus cake - 桂花糕 - guìhuāgāo This is a unique traditional pastry made from glutinous rice flour, honey and osmanthus. This cake has a really interesting texture, as it's quite dense but also airy in a way? I'd definitely recommend trying it, as it's not super sweet and goes really well with tea.

their bubble tea order- genshin men
included: albedo, ayato, diluc, itto, kaeya, scaramouche, zhongli
note: i don’t even play genshin anymore but i had this idea at 3am and haven’t stopped think of it since…send help. 💀
this is also my first time doing something like this so be nice plss
Tumblr media
~ Albedo tends to spend plenty of late nights with his experiments, therefore a drink with plenty of caffeine would do the trick to keep him awake when he should be sleeping. A nice coffee milk tea or dirty matcha with tapioca and coffee jelly in the largest size would be the remedy when regular coffee becomes boring.
~Now we all know Ayato loves his bubble tea- it's in his damn idle animation for goodness sake. But what exactly is he drinking? While we know the drink is milk tea, I'd like to think that the specific type of tea is oolong milk tea with tapioca- it's simple and a classic both in flavor and in popularity. It's something you can never go wrong with, and it is a tried and true flavor for Ayato.
~ My mans Diluc has his own winery but hates wine so I can see him liking something on the more on the fruiter side, like a strawberry or passionfruit tea. Extra points if it has fruit bits and/or rainbow jelly!
~Mr. Numero Uno Arataki Itto is probably going to get something adventurous, something unique in flavor. I see him becoming a regular for a yakult drink, possibly a mango yakult. He usually doesn't get toppings because he's afraid of them being close to the red beans and them causing cross-contamination.
~Kaeya is as cool and trendy as ever, and this attitude continues to his taste in bubble tea. A good brown sugar milk tea with tapioca is his regular order, although when he prefers to not have an indulgent drink settles for a jasmine green milk tea.
~Although he can be a pain in the butt, Scaramouche is actually pretty simple when it comes to bubble tea. His go-to order is a Thai tea with cheese foam topping and tapioca. He always tells himself he will try something new but when he sees the list of flavors, he decides to stick to his regular order.
~Good ol' grandpa Zhongli may have osmanthus wine on the mind, but he doesn't have osmanthus tea on the mind (yes it is a thing). Despite that, the archon would prefer something on the lighter side, opting for a lemon tea with chia seeds and grass jelly. He would rave about the health benefits of chia seeds while everyone spaces out.
thanks for reading, let me know if you have suggestions for future headcanon posts! <;3

bucci gang as bubble tea
bucciarati
Tumblr media
jasmine milk tea with grass jelly
25% sugar and less ice
i can already imagine him ordering this
it’s such a mom drink, especially the grass jelly
i bet narancia has tried it and immediately started gagging
definitely an acquired taste, but the whole combo just screams sophisticated and experienced
has probably ordered every combination of sweetness and ice to figure out the perfect middle ground
i could also see him drinking just plain tea but where’s the fun in that
bonus: a bubble tea store i think he’d go to
Tumblr media
ten ren’s hands down, it’s a classic for a reason and he probably buys himself some bubble tea as a treat after buying some actual tea from there
giorno
Tumblr media
original milk tea with tapioca
50% sugar and normal ice
i mean as we all know, giorno is definitely the most normal out of the group and therefore i personally headcanon that he has the most normal bubble tea order lol
he probably doesn’t enjoy it as much as some of the others, but still orders whenever the group goes out for bubble tea
maybe if he’s feeling really fancy he’ll go for the roasted milk tea but honestly it’s pretty hit or miss depending on the store
so to be safe he’d probably just stick to something normal
bonus: a bubble tea store i think he’d go to
Tumblr media
chatime 💀 no offence to anybody who goes there, feel like the majority of people who would choose it over other stores are people who haven’t tried other places…
but i think giorno’s fine with that. it’s definitely convenient since there are locations everywhere and the drinks are fairly consistent too.
abbacchio
Tumblr media
iced americano, no toppings
0% sugar, normal ice
i genuinely cannot picture him ordering bubble tea
idk i generally believe that anyone can enjoy it but this man?? this man?
okay but if i had to choose an actual drink for him
probably an espresso latte with coffee jelly
still 0% sugar and probably less ice because less ice = more drink = more value
and honestly it does get pretty expensive so he’s getting as much of the drink as he can get
bonus: a bubble tea store i think he’d go to
Tumblr media Tumblr media
does the alley serve any coffee drinks? no but based purely on aesthetic, it’s definitely a type of place i could see him going to. the music is always good and actually played at a normal volume, people are usually there to work or are generally pretty quiet, and there’s the tiniest amount of sunlight possible
mista
Tumblr media
brown sugar milk tea or thai milk tea with tapioca and pudding
extra sugar and no ice
please get him and narancia away from all bubble tea stores
is the type of person who peels the lid off of the cup and probably eats the boba with a spoon
is doing it so that he can count the number of pearls and make sure it’s not 4 or a multiple of 4
sex pistols love bubble tea too, they’re probably the ones asking him to get it for them
also a big believer in the less ice = more drink = more value theory (which he probably got from abbacchio)
but while abbacchio understands why cold drinks have ice in them, mista does not
and italian summers are not playing so you know that 5 minutes after he’s gotten his drink it’s going to be lukewarm and his tapioca is still hot
bonus: bubble tea store i think he’d go to
Tumblr media
i can see both him and narancia liking kung fu tea and coco. mostly because they’re affordable and have pretty normal options, but are generally more interesting than chatime. but i think narancia would gravitate more towards kung fu tea and mista towards coco since king fu tea focuses more on fruit based drinks and mista would probably think it’s less worth it than a milk tea
fugo
Tumblr media
strawberry cheese green tea with osmanthus jelly, peach jelly, and crystal boba
25% sugar, fixed ice
okay so i may or may not be biased because this is the drink that i usually order
but i feel like out of the entire gang, fugo and bucciarati are probably the most familiar
and we know fugo has taste because he likes strawberry shortcake, so why not a drink that’s basically liquid strawberry?
he definitely has very bougie preferences, probably likes herbal or “healthy” toppings like bucciarati
only difference being he tends to go for strawberry flavours instead of actual tea
despite his preferences, he’s probably tried every drink out there for research purposes
probably has a spreadsheet with different stores, their drinks, and ratings for things like their atmosphere, customer service, drink to topping ratio, etc
all in all, the most seasoned boba enjoyer
bonus: bubble tea store i think he’d go to
Tumblr media
as the only store that sells this drink (and also my personal favourite), i think that his favourite would be shuyi tealicious. it has a lot of drinks and toppings that are hard to find outside of taiwan and has a very curated feel to it that i think fugo would enjoy. the store’s aesthetic is also bright and minimalistic, so it’s the perfect place to study
narancia
Tumblr media
the other half of the probably shouldn’t be allowed to drink bubble tea in public duo
any yakult or fruit drink with rainbow jelly and popping boba
extra sugar, extra ice
has the taste of a toddler and probably the decisiveness of one too
doesn‘t have a set order, he’ll just walk into the store and order whatever catches his eye first
sometimes there are too many things and then he becomes one of those people at the front of the line trying to decide what he wants to order as there are 20 more people after him
probably also thinks out loud, asks the person at the cashier what they recommend, and then goes with the opposite of that
genuinely enjoys and appreciates bubble tea though
he’s probably really into the customization aspect of it and how the combinations are basically endless
definitely not as bad as mista in terms of drinking etiquette, but still makes a mess somehow
i genuinely don’t think he’s ever out the straw in correctly in his life
has probably accidentally stabbed the straw in through the bottom
and broken the cup at least a few times
bonus: bubble tea store i think he’d go to
Tumblr media
as i mentioned before, i think kung fu tea would fit his vibes. they have a lot of promotions, fruit flavoured drinks, and also a yakut line. i think out of the entire group he’d also be the most into drinks with honey in them instead of sugar (idk why but hey to each their own)
trish
Tumblr media
strawberry latte with panna cotta
fixed sugar, fixed ice
you know that if trish had a smartphone during the anime she’d definitely be on instagram or tiktok
it’s such a photogenic drink and matches her hair too, so i can definitely see her posting about it a lot
is one of those people who consider bubble tea an accessory, sort of like how starbucks used to be, so her drink must look as cute as she does
i don’t see her experimenting that often, like once she’s found a drink that fits her aesthetic that’s it
but she’d probably also enjoy things like drinks with edible glitter or an ombré effect to spice things up
bonus: a bubble tea store i think she’d go to
Tumblr media
machi machi is definitely up her alley. it’s very cute and instagram worthy, especially those iconic bottles. nothing much to say here, i just think she’d like it, especially the colour scheme
