I guess it depends on what degree of shipping them we're talking about lol.

The first time I thought about them was when I read OOTP. We got the Sorting Hat telling the school they needed to unite, and then we got Umbridge, who could have been a mass unifying factor of the entire school. Harry's dealing with the majority of the population not believing that Voldemort's back, but guess who does believe Harry because he knows Voldemort is back? Draco, for one.

What I was hoping would follow through on that setup obviously didn't come to pass. The point is, I remember thinking, oh, what if they were friends by the end of the book? And then I remember thinking oh 👀 what if they were boyfriends???

But obviously that didn't happen either, lmao

As for the degree of shipping where I sought drarry fics out over any other pairing was after reading Running on Air. That one changed my brain chemistry. I finished reading it around bedtime (10-11pm) and was awake until dawn (4-5am at the time) rotating it around in my head.

As for OTP status, while planning/writing Canon in Draconis Major. When I first started thinking about doing the series (June 2021ish; I wrote the first fic in the series across Nov/Dec 2021), it was actually supposed to be epilogue compliant! I was going to build up the Draco/Astoria and everything. And then I realized that the straight Draco in my head (who appears in the ~1M word series I wrote before CDM) was committing identify fraud on his character. Draco, straight? No way lmao.

Also, narratively speaking? Draco and Harry go through such similar journeys at times that it just makes sense that marrying CDM to canon results in marriage of the POV characters - figuratively at first, with them coming together, and then, well, literally. lol

Everything after that has just been confirmation bias. My ao3 bookmarks ought to prove that.

Intimacy Gaps

ok so I know I usually rant about the lack of connective tissue in S5 in bringing chenford together. I recently realized it’s because this season’s leapfrog approach to Chenford deprives us of an emotional intimacy that is the bedrock of a solid otp and the reason I started watching the rookie to begin with.

like — domestic chenford, transferring, talk of babies, ADORBS.

HOWEVER.

Building intimacy in a partnership requires vulnerability. For some reason, the show has chosen to strip out those small moments in favor of hitting the larger relationship beats, which has managed to flatten chenford for me.

For example — take the Isabel arc. We see Tim struggle with the angst of an addicted wife, we see Lucy confront him about it, yell at him about it. We see their mutual concern for one another; see him end things with his wife, partly due to Lucy’s influence. <chef’s kiss> in building emotional depth and angst.

Compare that to the Ashley/Chris storylines. We get a few snarky quips from both Tim and Lucy about dating other people. We never have a confessional scene where Lucy admits her jealousy or hurt. We don’t have Angela ribbing Tim over Chris, especially after that disastrous double date. We don’t have either of them end their relationships because their feelings for each other get the better of them; rather, they continue to be dragged along until outside circumstances force a change. Ashley dumps Tim for some batshit reason the writers pulled out of a hat, robbing him of agency or decision, and then Tim essentially robs Lucy of agency or decision by telling Lucy to break up with Chris. The result is a relationship that’s sort of developed by proxy rather than internal decisions driven by the characters, which is literally How Not to Write Characters 101.

On top of that, we never get insights from other characters the way we used to from Jackson (ie, Angela telling Lucy that Ashley’s a safe choice for example), and because of that, SO MUCH emotional intimacy is left on the table.

I guess my larger point is that we’re going through the motions of establishing an OTP on screen without earning it through the actual moments the show would have once upon a time written, and that just bums me out.

The physical intimacy is great and I’m glad we’re progressing. Just wish it was punctuated by that emotional depth that drew me into the rookie those first few seasons.

i think part of the reason i don't ship them that much is because my marcus is so different from how most people write him that i can't really get immersed if that makes sense. might go check out some fics of them now tho just to see :)

I think havikaveh is The One True Pairing Objectively & I’m not even like super focused on them I just look at them and I’m like yeah they are gay. What am I supposed to do. Not think it’s good?!?! I honestly think if I didn’t attach to Nahida so much & at the same time of Kaveh’s release there could’ve been an alternate timeline where I hyperfixated on Havikaveh instead of hat radish

IM NOT SURE it’s a bit harder since I don’t have rlly strong shipping opinions. I guess the first that comes to mind is zhongxiaoven but it’s less of just an ot3 and more of a complicated love triangle that goes in a circle as a form of hilarious character study

Zhongven are divorced but date for fun. They sometimes drag Xiao into it who sits between them shaking like a chihuahua. Xiao wants Zhongli to use him as a weapon to the point it’s a very unbalanced sort of devoted infatuation & Zhongli enjoys his presence but is trying to be responsible about the power dynamic. Xiao is also infatuated with Venti and tries offering Venti use him as a weapon but Venti (god of freedom) is like ummmm. Please don’t…? And is trying to have a stable relationship but also Xiao needs a lot of stability and Venti has commitment issues so it’s sort of just Complicated in a fun way. Etc

the ending is. perfect. the bamboo hat. it's never too late. when he's defeated he looks relieved. quoting myself from discord:

hehe. xie lian (i am a sicko). i can also justify this to some extent--jun wu/bai wuxiang (i think mostly bai wuxiang, actually?) remarks positively on xie lian's appearance a notable amount, there's the "makes one ache, makes one excited" bit which i cannot read as anything other than Kind Of Weird And Horny, there's the thing where jun wu tests xie lian's virginity by making him bleed on jun wu's sword (i have another whole meta in my heart about swords as blatantly phallic in tgcf but i assume you do not need to be convinced of this lol)--but honestly i don't fully stand by it. this is a ship i have at least 80-90% because i am a sicko. i hope you can all understand

My non-romantic OTP for this character

ALSO xie lian. im complex. i contain multiple guys. the thing is that i have a beautiful google doc that consists of every time jun wu/bwx is analogized to a parent/teacher and xie lian is analogized to a child and it has . like. 30 quotes? somewhere around there? it's a lot! it's a lot. "i have decided that we are the same guy due to The Parallels but also i am going to enforce this and Make us the same guy by Molding You into Becoming Me" is an incredibly good dynamic whether it is slash or gen, and i do think the "weird forced adult-child relationship going on" reading is in fact more supported by the text than a shippy one. also when i'm not being a sicko about it there's also something deeply beautiful to me about their ending, about xie lian defeating jun wu but also showing him this moment of grace. and of course the Parallels which apply equally when it's slash vs gen. also you may have noticed that neither this question nor the last one do i bring up guoshi. this is bc idgaf about him. sorry mei nianqing . he exists i just Do Not Care

im gonna be so real i have no idea what is and is not popular wrt jun wu. what are the popular jun wu opinions.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

once again im kind of at the same place i am wrt mu qing of, like.... nothing, honestly? i am incredibly happy with what we got, i think it's beautifully written and the resolution is perfect, mxtx is a good writer and tgcf is a good book, no complaints

having a bit more of his backstory with mnq might be cool, i guess? we get the huge infodump but it's kind of just an infodump, it is just Pure Exposition, going into that a bit more / more naturally than "guoshi helpfully exposits for us" could be neat even tho i dont think its necessary. as mentioned i'm p much happy with what we got

A regular day in May, but things are changing for Mulder and Scully.

The late May sun is relentless on the skin of his neck, right where his shirt ends and his hair no longer reaches. Both he and Scully got haircuts before they came here. After all, this has been a long time coming. They’re waiting for their turn, Mulder with his hand on his neck, trying to prevent the inevitable sunburn. He used sunscreen – or rather Scully used it on him. How could he say no when she offered to apply it for him? The ghost of her small, but strong hands and nimble fingers is still dancing over his skin.

Another couple leaves, holding their official papers, looking joyful. They pass them and that’s when he catches Scully smiling. It’s one of his favorites. All of her smiles are his favorite, of course. But this one holds a special place in his heart. It’s the one she wears when her thoughts and seemingly all her troubles are miles away. It’s an absent-minded smile that only pops up every once in a while. Lately, he’s seen it more often. He cherishes each one of them, never knowing when he’ll get to see it again. Except things will change now. Isn’t that why they’re standing here? He glances over at Scully. As much as he doesn’t want to disturb her moment of happiness, he needs to make sure.

“Hey, Scully?”

“Hm?”

“Is this really what you want?” She turns to him, her eyes wide.

“Have you changed your mind?” she asks.

“No,” he says hastily. “I haven’t, I just- you never wanted… I mean. This is… it’s a big deal for us.” It's been 25 years and now...

“Mulder,” she says softly, taking his hand into hers. He realizes how sweaty his hand is. Hers is, too. It’s either nervousness or the early bout of summer.

“I want this. I asked you, remember?” He nods, slowly. Of course, he remembers. The first time he asked her to marry him was shortly after they went on the run. She said no. The same thing happened after they got their house. Another firm no. He asked her again after their vacation, their last attempt to ditch the darkness that was threatening to swallow them whole. When she said no that time he was almost relieved. And that was the beginning of the end. Or, as he likes to think of it now: the interlude. Because here they are, about to make it official. Well, sort of.

They’re next in line, finally. His skin is scorching and he knows that Scully will have to apply aloe vera later tonight. At least there’s a silver lining to his pain.

“Who are you?” The man behind the desk adjusts his glasses and his base cap. It reads ‘what a good boy’ and Mulder averts his eyes, looking everywhere but at the hat.

“Mulder and Scully,” Scully says, taking charge. “We have an appointment.”

“Do you?” The man asks lowering his head and going through his list. Several names are already crossed out. Panic grips Mulder’s stomach. What if something went wrong? What if their names aren’t on the list and they’re-

“There they are,” the guy says, beaming at Scully. “Dr. Scully and Mr. Mulder.”

“That is correct,” Scully says, squeezing Mulder’s hand. “Is everything in order? Can we go in and…,” she trails off, and this time Mulder tightens his hold on her. She’s probably just as nervous as he is. This was her idea, after all. And she’s always been better at hiding. He? He wears his heart on a sleeve. Hers, to be exact. Almost three decades together, and enough trauma for just as many lifetimes, they’re wary. When was the last time anything went exactly as they’d planned it?

“Everything is in order. You can go right in.”

“Thank you,” Scully says and Mulder hears the relief in her voice. They walk towards the entrance, but before they go inside, Mulder stops her.

“Last chance to change your mind, Scully.”

“I don’t want to change my mind. This is what I want. Are you sure it’s what you want? You look hot.” He grins at her. “You know what I mean.”

“I want this, too. All of this.” The house, the woman, and yes, the dog. The commitment. The whole package. It’s what he’s wanted for years. Now all he has to do is reach out and grab it. "Ready?" he asks and they walk through the door.

It’s much cooler inside and Mulder takes a deep breath, thankful for the air conditioning. A few dogs watch them walk past them and Mulder knows he can’t look because if he does, they will go home with a dozen instead of one dog.

“Dr. Scully?” A young volunteer walks towards them, smiling. “Someone’s been waiting for you.” The volunteer opens a door and there's Daggoo. His tail waggles as soon as he spots Scully, and then Mulder, too.

“There you are.” Scully is on her knees greeting her dog. Their dog, as of today. As soon as they hand in the paperwork, that is. After today, it’s going to be official. Mulder, Scully, and Daggoo. Registered at the same address.

“Do you have the paperwork?” the volunteer asks Mulder and he hands it to her. He, too, gets down to pet Daggoo behind his ear. The dog seems to grin at him, happy about all the attention. Two days without him and he’d started to miss the little bugger, who, if he’s honest, has helped him and Scully find their way back to each other much quicker with his antics.

“It all looks good. You can take him home.”

“So he’s ours now?” Scully asks, her voice trembling, her eyes traveling to Mulder’s face. All they’ve lost. All that’s been taken from them. This is their moment. It’s a new beginning. He doesn’t want to go as far and hope their luck is changing – but of course, he wants to believe. In five minutes, they’re going home. With their dog, who is registered at their address, who they’re paying taxes for. They’re going to file for taxes next year. Together. And who knows who else will wander back into their lives. He won’t ever give up hope on their son.

“He’s ours,” Mulder confirms. “Let’s go home.”

And so they do.

Favorite thing about him- I absolutely love the scene at the rally when he makes that gesture and the entire theater quiets down- I love the authority that just kind of radiates off of him whenever he’s on stage/onscreen.

Least favorite thing about him- In the Broadway version, he’s barely ever there- he mostly just sort of stays in the background. 92sies Spot has more of a presence, especially since he’s more of a main character in the ‘92 version.

Favorite line- “On the grounds of Brooklyn, your honor.”

BrOTP- Spot and Davey (like I said for the ask about Davey), or Spot and Sarah. Honestly, Spot and Sarah would be such a chaotic duo, especially with my own headcanons about Sarah (they’d commit arson together, 100%)

OTP- Sprace, 100%. I just love them sm

nOTP- Spot and Crutchie. Like with the Davey ask, I just don’t think they’d ever see each other as anything more than someone to be respected (or, at the most, friends).

Random headcanon- Spot plays the violin. His mother and father used to play little songs on the street for some extra cash, and sometimes when selling is slow he’ll break out his father’s old violin, find a street corner where he won’t be recognized, and play with his hat set out to collect coins given to him by people.

Unpopular opinion- (This probably isn’t unpopular, but whatever lol) honestly, I do not think he’d be the Heartless Asshole With A Soft Spot For One Specific Person Only that some people paint him as sometimes. I feel like he’d care a lot about everyone he loves, and he’d definitely show it, even if it’s just a smile every once in a while or a few words of affirmation.

Is it a proper office? No. One makes do when one lives in an apartment and only has so much space. (Especially when one is sharing space with a fellow nerd!) Because Eddie and I don't use a dining room, we converted the dining area into my office! So if you see peaks of the kitchen/living room/entrance, that's why! It's not much, but it's all my own! 💛

Eddie installed some hooks for where my mugs used to hang. I have better mug storage now, so hanging above the entrance I put this ornament I picked up while in New Orleans back in August 2022! Gay mermen? C'mon. I named them Henry and Sebastian btw.

This is my non-HP witchy section. Mostly astrology books. A few miscellaneous witchcraft books on the bottom shelf. And my crystal collection on top!

I mentioned "mug collection" right? I love them! 😍 Though it might be worth noting that I have other mugs in the kitchen cabinet. 👀 And a small holiday collection I bring out during the holidays. I don't have a problem, I swear.

Aaaand my cubes! My Sorting Hat. Some fandom and astrology themed candles (most from various Etsy shops.) Various HP figures. Cubes for storage (mostly notebooks and notecards and things.) I have quite the collection of tarot and oracle decks in one of the open cubes. A little chest full of decks, and a few more decks in specific deck boxes (cuz my chest is too full 🙈) I also have 2 bound fics, and a HP word search book (I looooove word searches!) Mostly the cube organizers are for various knick knacks and such.

And THIS is where the magic happens, baby! My desk. An absurd amount of colored pens. All the books I'm most likely to consult while writing (poetry, symbolism, mythology, philosophy, etc.) My Snarry art on the wall!!!!!! 😍😍 (I need more frames so I can hang MORE SNARRY ART.) (A gal always needs more Snarry art, y'know?)

Then between my desk and the HP shelf I have PILLOWS because I'm too restless to stay in one place and position for too long. I also have a lap desk tucked away so I pull that out and hop into my pillows to keep writing! (My lil bee is named Beatrice, btw.) (Queen Bea! 🥰🥰)

This space seriously brings me so much joy, and so much inspiration. To have a space dedicated to writing, and my fandom, and my BOYS. Being able to have Snarry out and proud and all around me???? 🥺🥺 I'm all in my feelings. (Seriously, though, need MORE.) And not just a representation of my OTP, but of other creators who inspire me! The bound books being writers and bookbinders. My embroidery by onbeinganangel!! And some of the artists I love! A great reminder of all the talent in fandom and how much love and passion there is out there!!!! And I have pieces of it HERE WITH ME???? I am blown away and very in love.

I am very grateful to my partner. It was his idea to split areas so I'd have this one for myself (he has his own space now, too, for Magic the Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, Brandon Sanderson, etc.) (Oh and his monstrous dice collection.) But I was lamenting how I was running out of room on my one little wall for Snarry art. My desk used to be on the little wall where my witchy shelf is. And it was Eddie's idea to make the whole room mine. And he and I worked hard not only rearranging to have our own areas, but decluttering and reorganizing the whole apartment! This man found the time and energy to make my life happier even when super busy and stressed from work. So in its way, this space also represents his love and thoughtfulness and dedication for me. Which makes it all the better! (And really, he had to do all of the heavy lifting, I am tragically weak.)

Hi! This might be a weird question and you don't have to answer it but I'm thinking about writing Lizzington but I am so nervous about it and don't feel like I can do them justice, so I'm looking for a bit of advice from the accomplished Lizzington writers.

Do you have any advice as to how write Red and Liz?

I mean, when you write them, do you have some... I don't know how to describe it, so it's gonna sound silly, but do you have some selfmade bullet points about what their characters are like? I mean, like vocabulary that feels authentic or mannerisms you picked up from the show or made up but that feels right, that sort of thing.

Sorry I'm so bad at explaining, but I would love to get a bit of behind-the-scenes of Lizzington fic writing.

Omg, hi, anon!! 👋 Not to worry, I don't find this a weird question at all & I'm more than happy to answer you!! 🥰 Firstly, I LOVE that you're considering writing Lizzington fic!! Although the show is over & our OTP never became canon, I know for a fact that there are still loyal shippers out there who will gladly read & comment on new Red & Liz fic!! And I know it probably doesn't help much to say it but... you don't need to be nervous, I promise, you will absolutely "do them justice"!! Fanfic is so individualized & subjective that I would go so far as to say there isn't a "wrong" way to do it... But of course I'm happy to share whatever experience I have & I must say that I'm flattered you consider me an "accomplished Lizzington writer", that's high praise, indeed 🥹

As far as advice goes, I think I should start by reiterating what I mentioned above: there's no "wrong" way to write fic. In fact, that's the beauty of it, imo. Every writer holds a unique blend of the characters/actors we see on screen & their own personal interpretation/headcanons for them. That's what makes everyone's fanworks so wonderfully different!! Of course, that also means that there will always be readers whose interpretation of the characters/ship don't align with yours, & they'll consider your interpretation "out of character"... but that's a simple difference of opinion that can be true of anything, tbh, & a good fandom member will understand this & simply click away without a negative interaction. And if they don't have enough respect to do that, then that's on THEM, & NOT your problem!! It's much more worth your time & energy to focus on the people who are open to or actively align with your interpretation of the ship/characters - they're your target audience who want to read what you have to write & share!! 😊 That all being said, what you ask is not silly at all, I think there definitely are specific vocabulary/mannerisms that are identifiable to every character & they can totally be different for everyone!! I can totally share with you some of mine, as long as you keep in mind that these are by no means Lizzington Laws™️ & you should feel free to accept or reject them, as well as come up with your own!! And you're not bad at explaining at all, my friend, & I just hope I'm answering your questions adequately, plus I'm always happy to share some behind-the-scenes of Lizzington fic writing (love that phrase btw LOL)!! I'll break down some of my go-to Red & Liz traits below the cut via bullet points for ease of reading 😁

Red:

working his mouth/jaw when thinking

rolling/biting his tongue when lost for words

tilting his head from side to side in deliberation

dramatic changes in pitch/voice inflection to express emotion

eye/mouth twitching when anxious

eyes flashing/jerky movements/abrupt violence when angry

fidgeting with hands/hat when upset

pacing when nervous

unusual/extensive vocabulary

unnecessary/entertaining stories/trains of thought

Liz (tougher imo bc of her inconsistent on-screen characterization):

rolling her eyes when impatient

scoffing when exasperated

chewing/biting her lips when emotional

running a hand through her hair (long or short) when agitated

rubbing her scar/wrist when triggered

bobbing her leg/tapping her foot when nervous

sarcasm/bitterness/dry sense of humor

lack of patience (sometimes abrupt) when stressed

emotional outbursts in response to sensitive topics (this is pretty broad & depends on context & personal preference, of course, as one of the biggest inconsistencies in the show)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, anon, but I hope those things are somewhat helpful!! I would also always recommend simply watching the show & reading other's fics to get a better sense of how the characters typically speak & how they express themselves in different states via mannerisms, etc. And it never hurts to speculate/project/try some of your own headcanons... after all, characters are just like people: changeable & adaptable 😊 At any rate, I hope this is something like what you were looking for, anon, please feel free to drop another ask if you'd like to talk more... Aren't they all three such little goons ... they're all so playful. Everyone here loves to play a little game, roleplay, tinker with toys ... whatever I imagine with the three, at any ages, it's a complete riot ... I want Amane's hands to be full with his otouto and his girlfriend... I want them to rope Amane into all sorts of nonsense ... and of course, Nene-chan needs someone on her side who understands Amane!!! Amane can't act so difficult and avoidant if Tsukasa is there ;) he knows when you are lying... ! The girls need to help eachother not get bullied too much by Amane, wwww..... and getting to see Tsukasa having a nice time with a girl, could heal Amane's heart, eventually (it'll give him a problem somewhere else, but that's fine)... in some ways I think Amane and Nene-chan could really corner Tsukasa, as much as Nene-chan and Tsukasa could corner Amane, or Tsukasa and Amane could corner Nene-chan... literally, the possibilities are endless!!! And Amane will get to dom everyone, good for him :D!

In my heart, I believe it's possible, and beautiful. I even think we will see it happen, some day…. *stares into the stars* I really do…

I don't really think I super "hate" anything in this manga, I enjoy the overall writing and theming enough that I'm engaged when anyone is on the page… though Kou does frustrate me a lot. I've said it many times but I suppose I shall say it all again:

Kou x Mitsuba is, among what shows up regularly in the canon at least, the least fun or cute for me. I think it's Kou's fault though, for also having a crush on Nene-chan… what a meaningless feeling ... on top of that, he apparently values his normal guy friends a lot ... the fact he really thinks of his meaningless friends at all in the Red House really degrades his emotional landscape to me, too .... when you have characters as isolated/one-track minded as Sumire/Hakubo, Aoi/Akane, Amane/Tsukasa and Amane/Nene, even Teru's feelings towards Kou … that makes the overall set-up much less atmospheric ... Kou really is a normal, directionless idiot...

and then his crush on Nene-chan, that degrades whatever Mitsuba is, because it shows Kou can BE complimentary and blushy in a normal way with someone he likes, why ????? He doesn't throw her around the room or scream at her, like he does Mitsuba!!!! So you see, it makes me feel bad for Mitsuba! It feels like Kou has no idea what he's doing or what he feels, AND he's reactive at the drop of a hat, so he'll scream something as if he believes it or as if it means anything, then he won't do a single useful thing…

on top of it all, it's very devastating that he simply didn't remember Mitsuba … even though other classmates of theirs did. That's such a rough "first meeting" for your OTP …………… compared to everything else, EVEN his OWN BROTHER'S feelings for HIM, it's really not romantic at all … Again, it makes me feel bad for Mitsuba…. WHAT A BAD LOVE STORY YOU'RE MAKING, KOU, IF THAT'S WHAT IT IS--!!!! He really makes it all not beautiful at all… !!! Not a single admirable thing about it!!! Tsukasa is doing everything for Mitsuba, too...

Oh I accidentally answered what character I dislike … it is Kou. He is just so stupid … he yells all the time and he is physically violent at the drop of a hat … he for some reason has had no development in his ambitions and still wants to be an exorcist … he just wants to be strong and cool like his big brother. He is very basic normal masculine boy with insecurity about being seen as weak or useless. Compared to someone with a RICH INNER WORLD like Amane, or someone with real lonliness like Mitsuba, he's really frustrating …. he just has friends and family he loves … he is spoiled … yet he has the nerve to insult Mitsuba and blast him with lightning every 3 seconds … he really is mean and shitty … he has no perspective, so sad people like Teru and Mitsuba are without any reassurance .... I have no idea why he is seen as "good nice wholesome boy", he talks extremely rudely, he acts extremely abrasively… he's such a generic shounen protag boy, yelling empty platitudes that don't mean anything. He never has anything beautiful, poignant, or observant to say … I feel like he has the memory of a goldfish....

Kou is most interesting to me when he is finally simply being full bore deplorable, which I feel is closer to his true nature, anyway ... like in Ghost Hotel, he's terrorizing and chopping up and eating Mitsuba ... I like the aquarium thing, because seeing the assault manifest so full-force felt very 'real', for a Kou emotionally explosive moment. I'd like him stop pretending to be a hero, for real ...

But I guess if you wanted to consider non-canon pairings I truly but actually do hate some haha, like, Hanako x Kou (BARF), Kou x Nene-chan (BARF). It's like ... utter nonsense. Truly drivel. Don't you ever let that nasty gangly thing touch any part of my ship …………………..

A few scattered thoughts for the day (all Good Omens related bc i live here now):

A) I think I really want to do more for the GO fic I wrote, even though the reception it got was lukewarm at best because I apparently enjoy making myself suffer with one half of the OTP not remembering the other. BUT I can't settle on the next point in time I want to put the new scene in, so I'm just languishing in Writer Hell. ToT

B) It just struck me that it is super weird that apparently NO ONE in Heaven thought check the security footage of Gabriel leaving? I mean, like IMMEDIATELY, when they couldn't find his memory and realized he was gone. It would have been obvious that he got off the elevator at Earth, though it might have been harder to tell WHERE on Earth he had ended up. He must have actually meant to hit the button to go all the way down to Hell instead, which would have been kind of hilarious, honestly. The part of me wearing a tinfoil hat sort of wants to blame the whole thing on the Metatron. Obviously, he couldn't plan for Gabriel and Beelzebub falling in love, but once it became apparent that Gabriel was not going to play ball anymore, he became a useful pawn for something else that the Metatron wants to get rid of before the second coming (Crowley and Aziraphale's partnership). I mean, really? Of all places, Gabriel just HAPPENS to end up going to Aziraphale? He doesn't even like him! He tried to kill him!! The Metatron never seems surprised or even upset that Gabriel "got away." I think he used Gabriel to get Aziraphale "in trouble" so that he could show up at the last minute and "save" him from the other angels. Maybe. As I said, tinfoil hat. XD

C) I am back on my bullshit for the final 15 and I'm taking you all down with me. After Crowley walks out, Aziraphale turns away from the door to try and contain how upset he is, and when the Metatron comes in, he turns around SO FAST, because for half a second he thinks Crowley came back. And when he sees that it isn't him, he has to turn away to collect himself again. :'))) After I noticed that, it was so clear how badly Aziraphale did not want to go to Heaven. At least, not without Crowley. He's just staring out the window at him, he's choked up when he talks, his face is full of panic and longing. He actually chases after the Metatron for a few steps when he leaves, shaking his head, and nearly throwing the whole deal out. There are still tears in his eyes when he shakes himself out of it and puts on that big fake smile and says "nothing at all."

But he still does it. He still goes. Because he clearly thinks that he has to. And he doesn't even know about the second coming yet, so it's not to prevent that. Is it really just "making a difference"? I mean, he didn't even seem interested until being with Crowley was on the table, so "making a difference" didn't seem to matter that much until he thought they could also be together. Which would make one assume that if Crowley wasn't interested in going, Aziraphale would also lose interest in going, since that was the carrot that allegedly walked him through the door on that totally legit and non-threatening deal.

I DON'T KNOW. EVERYTHING IS SUSPICIOUS. I JUST WANT ANSWERS. T_T

It's me again and yes to all of that sure he wanted his friends to be happy but I meant more specifically that he wanted Kie to be happy even if it wasn't with him and you can tell that hurt a lot he couldn't even look at her kissing Pope's cheek at to cover up his poor eyes with his hat I was sad for him there. I for one can't wait when she finds out a lot of things he does is for her and how much he loves her and willing to give up for her this really is the superior ship all 3 otps lol

But yes, I totally got what you meant! He for sure was the maker of his own misery in this scene, pushing Kie toward Pope for whatever reason - he thought that she deserved someone "good", that that's what would make his friends happy, etc.

This particular expression of his was SO PAINFUL because it wasn't the sort of scowls we got in his other jealous scenes with John B. This was...truly upset, devastated, and just...sad. It was much more sobering than his other looks. So much so that he quite literally shielded his face and turned away before anyone could clock it.

I wonder how much she'll find out about the past, his feelings, the reasons for some of his actions. I'm not sure! But I think she's having a realization of oh...he would die for me, literally. Maybe that explains some things.

   Weather like this was nostalgic for them.

   The bang and clang of thunder, the flashes of lightning, the brightness of it all. Even in the dim of the storm clouds, these sorts of summery wet season storms meant a lot to them both but Spectre especially.

   It was too little wonder that Ryoken found Spectre in the closest thing the ship had to a sunroom in weather like this. He looked drowned out by the colouration of the air and rain and yet, his expression was in total awe. He grinned and laughed with every ordinance of thunder.

   That was until he had heard Ryoken approach. His footsteps had been purposefully soft but Spectre was forever fine tuned to his master’s movements, always willing to serve, assist, or otherwise fuss when his master was closeby. At that drop of a hat-like quickness, hearing just the smudge of footsteps, Spectre turned around and that uncharacteristically wholesome cheeriness in his face vanished when his gaze met Ryoken’s. 

   Spectre’s face changed drastically. Turned drained, somehow. He paled. His eyes watered. He cried.

   “Whoa, Spectre, are you okay?” Ryoken was alarmed to say the least.

   He had been meandering closer, hoping for a quiet moment between them both as they enjoyed the storm but this sudden change of mood, just as swift and unpredictable as a lightning strike, had Ryoken concerned. He hurried closer, put his hands atop Spectre’s as Spectre cried.

   “I’m sorry. I- I don’t know why.” 

   He’d been out of sorts lately. They both knew. But they both denied it, also. Not wanting to confront the changes as of late. 

   Ryoken’s heart twinged with guilt but he stepped forward. He rubbed a tear off the edge of Spectre’s tear duct, the saline smeared on his cheek but Spectre hazarded a smile. He allowed the closeness, even as his breathing turned his haggard and there was a scant blush to his cheek.

   “It’s okay.” Ryoken whispered to console him.

   It wasn’t okay though.

   Spectre sat down, plummeted down and had his back to the glass windowpane. He brought his knees up to his chest and tried to become as compact as possible. His swiftness of his rejection of Ryoken’s attempt to console him was astounding but not surprising.

   Ryoken sighed.

   He got down on Spectre’s level, sitting with him. Back to the window. It was cold, condensation seeping through as the rain continued to pour down heavily.

   “I’m sorry.” Ryoken murmured.

   “It's not your fault.” Spectre replied.

   “I could’ve been… more helpful, though.” Ryoken confessed.

   He placed his hand on Spectre’s shoulder. He was breaking down, bursting at the seams. He wasn’t strong. He was weak. They both knew that.

   “I could be better, too, though.” Spectre said bitterly.

   He began to claw at his face, splotchy with his tears. He sighed. Hard. He really wasn’t sure how he felt about Ryoken’s hand on his shoulder. It was sympathetic, sure, but Spectre wasn’t sure if he was deserving of sympathy.

   “You're not what I expected, you know that, right?” Ryoken murmured. His fingers dug into Spectre’s shoulder. Just like his Father would to him, to keep him grounded. To keep him looking at the future, the better and more evolved future.

   “I know that.” Spectre said.

   “When I brought you home, I never thought that any of the Incident victims would want to come back to that place but when I saw you smile. I was confused and I was sick to my stomach when you explained your perspective-”

   Spectre snorted. His gut wrenched and another tear threatened to spill out the side of his eyes. It didn’t sound like praise and yet, Ryoken’s voice was so fond. There was a smile on his face, Spectre saw when he glanced at him in his periphery. 

   “But we figured it out.” Ryoken said. “You became my most loyal and steadfast friend.”

   “I did. Thank you for having me.” Spectre murmured.

   “And when I - when we - asked for your assistance to destroy the very thing you worked so hard for, you didn’t hesitate to help.” Ryoken lamented. His smile shrank, his eyes darkened. “I’m sorry. I am.” His hand slipped down from atop Spectre’s shoulder. 

   Spectre squeezed himself tighter. He thought about Earth. The attribute which was associated with stability. He wondered just how much of Earth, despite their distance, was what had kept him propped up the last few years and now that he was gone. It was such a small thing and yet it was enough to rend open a huge, gaping wound in his heart, to draw forth tears. Even now. So many months after the fact of Earth’s death.

   It pained him. Made him wonder how things would have been different if he had been allowed to pair up with his Ignis like Yusaku and his were allowed - or Takeru and his. He had made his choice, however. Ten years ago. It would be cruel and shallow of him to change his mind this late regarding his allegiances. Now he was just as bad as whoever it was who had surrendered him to his Mother Tree when it came to Earth… 

   (Yet he still had that vain wish, that they could have met or could have remained as they were, perpendicular with no conflict between the creations and their creator…)

   He had Ryoken. The boy that he had met in the downpour ten years ago. The one who had connected him back to the thing that had given him the greatest importance that he had ever had as a six-year-old who had grown up after being abandoned. 

   Ryoken was quiet. They both were. He scooted in closer to Spectre and Spectre, surprisingly, he leaned in. He rested his head on Ryoken’s shoulder.

   “I love you.” Spectre murmured.

   “I love you, too.” Ryoken replied.

   “You were everything I had expected. An angel, if I can be so corny. I wanted someone to find me, someone who I could have all to myself…” Spectre rambled.

   Ryoken hiccuped. It might have been a laugh, it might not have but it got a chuckle out of Spectre as he nuzzled into Ryoken’s warm side.

   “Even now?” Ryoken asked.

   “Well, you're still here with me, aren’t you?” Spectre replied with a question - and a rhetorical one at that.

   He lifted his head off Ryoken’s shoulder and Spectre initiated a kiss. The kiss made Ryoken’s eyes widen but when he accepted it, he allowed them to flutter close and he kissed back against Spectre’s lips. They were plush, like the petals of a flower.

   This was their first kiss. It was a long time coming, they could both say so much.

   Spectre sighed, “You're here for me, that’s all that I care about.”

   His voice cracked. He shed another tear. All against the unerring downpour of the rain behind them.

   “I’ll always be here for you, I promise.” Ryoken affirmed.

   He kissed Spectre again. Harder, more fervent, enough to make Spectre’s heart leap to his throat as he kissed back against Ryoken’s mouth. They kissed for several more seconds. Seconds so long they could have been hours, not just minutes. They were forceful, push and pull, tug of war type kisses because neither knew what they were doing. Just that they wanted to be here. Right here, right now, in the cool of the rain on the window and in the shadow of what had brought them together. For better or for worse.

   When Spectre broke off the kiss, he took a deep breath, “I feel better now, thank you.”

   “I’m glad.” Ryoken said.

   Spectre twisted back around so he could sit, facing forward. He placed his hand over Ryoken’s and he held it tight. He really did feel better and that nostalgia replaced it again. Be it the Incident, the Ignis, Ryoken’s Father, and the rest of the Knights: through it all. Things were changing, they had changed but they would get through it, the thick and thin of it as leader and loyal second-in-command.
