Prompt: It’s Valentine’s Day and she’s never received any cards or messages from anyone…until now.
(was listening to This is what falling in love feels like- JVKE and needed to write this, also Janus is funner to write lying all the time, beside when he's trying not to)
{Ships: poly sander sides x g/n reader}
Valentine's day, I never really had any opinions on it. I've never really been with anyone on it, or gotten anything, of course in elementary but, you were made to give those out. I mean I've never gotten anything that means something, i don't hate it i just have never gotten the chance to feel anything. So when I woke up that morning to my boyfriend Patton cooking pancakes I didn't think much, but. The heart shaped pancakes did throw me off, “you ready for today?” he said as his bubbly self, “ Is today special or something?” that earned me a gasp from everyone, “it's valentine's day!!!” “ah..” roman looked at me confused, “my dear y/n do you not enjoy valentines day?” I gave a breathy chuckle, “I don't really know how i feel about it” “agreed y/n, just another holiday” “JUST ANOTHER HOLIDAY'' everyone started yelling at Logan, me and Virgil laughed softly. I had finished my breakfast after a couple refills and decided to go over to the couch, a snake decided to join us walking down the stairs, “hi Jan” “horrible to see you this morning” he respond, I smiled softly before turning the TV on to set up my F/S that I need to finish. When I heard a roman run in and snatch my phone (we lost the real remote..) “no no no, romantic movie my love” I sighed softly looking over to Janus with an annoyed face, he rolled his eyes back at me. Everyone started to pile in. I ended up being cuddled by Patton, cuddling Virgil, Remus in my lap, and sitting in Logan's lap. Roman was sitting next to my leg, Remy with a blanket around him and laying his head on Thomas who were both sitting on Patton's side of the couch. Roman put on some romance I've never bothered watching. I layed back more on Logan and gave him a peck on the jawline, a mistake. “Hey babyyyy i wanna kiss to!” Patton looked up at me saying, “me tooooooo” Remus says, before then everyone (who would say it) was chiming in wanting a kiss too. I groaned and grabbed onto the Logan, “nooooo im comfyyyyy, Logan save meeeee” “THAT'S MY JOB” roman said crossing his arms like a child. I giggled into Logan's neck. He had his arms wrapped around me, his chin on top of my head, jealous noises everywhere. {time skip} after the movie was over I ended up mostly in the same cuddle position as before. Me, Jan, Logan, and Virgil were the only ones awake at that point. So comfortable, I woke up Remus softly (he was on my legs nnefneufiuefibfb) he ended up waking up everyone. Patton and Logan got up to make lunch, I finally got to my F/S, “lunch!” Patton half yelled, we all sat around the table, roman and Patton stood up. “We have something special for all of you!” roman said, “WE MADE CARDS!” Patton said. They passed out cards with everyone's logos, yours and Thomas's just had hearts with your F/Cs. you opened yours “you make us all smile, we love you, we love your laugh, your insecurities, we love your face, we love everything you hate, we love you so much. Thank you for coming into our lives.” butterflies <3 just butterflies <3 Happy tears? Yes. I started softly giggling as tears streamed down my face. Patton walked over and hugged me, are you ok? Are you good? Could be heard throughout the table, a lot of us got emotional from our messages. I gave Patton a kiss, and nuzzled him softly. We all ended up finishing lunch and going back to cuddling on the couch. I think I’m going to like Valentine's Day from now on.

HELLO i have came w queer headcanons . also w neurodivergent/mental disorder headcanons cause not a single one of the sides (or thomas) are neurotypical
remus prolly has aspd (antisocial personality disorder) ? idk since i need to rewatch sasi so im not just going off of Vibes (unlike my queer hcs, which are based off of Vibes n Vibes alone) but from what i remember about remus' personality he does fit certain symptoms (the ones i can think of off the top of my head are: disregard for other's safety {has hit roman on the head, rendering him unconscious, has pulled logan's teeth directly out his mouth n up his nose}, lack of remorse {he didnt feel bad about either of those previously mentioned things} n i believe impulsivity + irresponsible {i guess u can interpret his actions as impulsive n irresponsible ?}
remus gives off transmasc mspec ace lesbian vibes, idk why but he does, he prolly uses neos but idk which ones ? prolly duke + violence related ones, also i think it would be funny if the side who had a sexual nature was someone who has a total of 0 sexual attraction
logan ,, prolly has autism + adhd ? again, i have to rewatch sasi but the way he acts when talking about his interests definitely feels like an autistic person talking about their special interests ? idk, but it does, he also doesnt understand social interactions n takes things literally
logan ,, prolly a lesboy tbh, definitely also mspec but doesnt feel like specifying which mspec label he uses, hes prolly also transmasc ? but i can see transfem ngl, also uses neos n uses all space neos !! prolly throw some doctor who related neos in there as well
patton prolly has autism + hyperempathy, from what i remember, patton, like logan, occasionally takes things literally, he also struggles w black n white thinking n thinks things are one or the other, he gets sensitive n cares v deeply about other ppl's emotions, but as i said multiple times already, i need to rewatch sasi so im not just going off of Vibes
u already know that i like this hc since i mentioned it the last time i sent u a queer sides ask so: transmasc hesbian patton, prolly even throw in butch + aro in there as well <3, he doesnt care about gender conformity n patton loves making ppl confused when says that hes a lesbian, he mostly just sticks to he/him but he wouldnt correct someone if they used they/them on him
Wait 2 million yrs until my autistic logan essay. He does have autism trust me believe me . He has SO MANY AUTISM TRAITS ITS INSANE.
Also. Totally not biased (sarcasm). But he 100% is transfem. Obviously not biased & nothing abt my blog would let u know i enjoy transfem logan, but hes transfem.
Also aspd remus :) nothing 2 add . ... i just like aspd remus.

ADHD sides hcs :3c
self projection time? self projection time
feel free to add ur own hcs onto this im jus usin my own experiences here
startin w PATTON
emotional regulation? who’s she? patton only knows feeling emotions with Every Single Atom in his body so powerfully he might one day Explode
if he’s happy hes HAPPY!!!!! it’s like his body fills with light and he’s walking 2 feet off the ground and nothing could go wrong — and then whoops, something goes wrong, and wh o o ps, hes crying, whoops —
has a million stuffed animals sitting aLL around the house so he always has something to Squeeze
Squeezing is a good stim dont @ me
he throws his whole body into stimming
flapping, bouncing, jumping, spinning — his body must be moving at all times or he will die
starting things is. Very very hard for him. executive dysfunction hits DEEP and he’s just,,, paralyzed. he wants to do the thing!!! he really does!!! his brain just Wont Let Him
logan used to get very frustrated with him but then patton like, explained how it felt and a little lightbulb went off in logan’s head
“patton, I think you have adhd.”
“... i’m guessin that doesn’t mean im a-delightful-hip-dad?”
then they did some Research together and put together a plan to help patton work around executive dysfunction and, it works, sometimes
when it doesnt, logan makes hot cocoa and sits with him
AUDITORY. PROCESSING. PROBLEMS.
“Hey, Pat, what’s for dinner?” “huh?” “I said, what’s for —” “meATloaf”
hearing is an uphill struggle so sometimes he just Signs instead but a lot of the time he gets so excited about what he’s trying to say he just dissolves into flapping halfway through the sentence
lots of hyperfixations !!!! so many !!! he cycles through em one after another suuuuper quickly
he never forgets a hyperfixation, and the mention of ANY old hyperfixations will have him cry-flapping
roman: hey did u know they’re making another phineas and ferb movie -
patton, vibrating intensely and sobbing, .5 seconds away from launching into orbit: theYR E MAKING A WHAT
ROMAN
singing is his absolute FAVORITE STIM
that moment where u reach a point in a song where ur chest just, Swells and u can feel ur voice Vibrating ? yeah
sometimes Does Not warm up beforehand bc ??? he has No Choice but to sing along to certain songs and he cant always control when they come on so his voice sometimes gets Very Raspy from belting without warmups
aside from that twirling and doing Ballet Poses are also very good stims. he stick his leggy out Real Far mmhm
roman: *starts a new project and doesnt finish it* *starts a new project and doesnt finish it* *starts a new project and doesnt finish it* *starts a new project and doesnt finish it *starts a new project and doesnt finish it* *starts a new project and doesnt finish it* *starts a new project and doesnt fin
his room is a MESS and NO he will NOT clean it LOGAN he has a SYSTEM
he doesnt have a system and the mess stresses him out to no end but he has one (1) braincell and it’s dedicated to Starting Projects And Not Finishing Them so
needs validation to survive
like legit if he doesnt get validation he will DIE
on the flip side, if he gets any sort of rejection, he will also Die
logan: so I read through your latest script, and the idea is solid. We can definitely work with this. I did notice one oddly structured sentence so I fixed that for you —
roman: so you basically hate it and i should die
rejection sensitive dysphoria is the one villain he has yet to figure out how to slay
contrary to what u might think, he keeps his hyperfixations Very close to his heart. he doesnt think he would survive it if one of the others were to criticize them
the one exception to this rule: disney.
you cant look at this boy and tell me hes not hyperfixated on disney i mean did you s E E him in that one ep cmon
he will ramble about disney to anyone who will listen for hours. days, even, if you give him the opportunity. infodumping about disney is like injecting pure sunlight right into his bloodstream; by the end of it he’s glowing
once, after accepting anxiety, virgil and roman ended up in another debate about the Meanings of disney movies, but this time it was friendly, and by the end of it roman had gotten to ramble about each and every one of his favorite movies and he had never been happier
it was the first time virgil ever saw him Flap
they still get together to talk disney sometimes
VIRGIIIIL
virgil: *stims while listening to mcr* *stims while listening to mcr* *stims while listening to mcr* *stims while listening to mcr* *stims while listening to mcr* *stims while listening to mcr* *stims while liste
like roman, Music is virgil’s main stim, but he prefers to just. Move. bouncin his leg and drumming his hands in the air and shaking his head etc etc
it takes. literally foreVER for him to trust the others enough to stim around them. music is his main comfort but, for a Long Time, he wouldnt let himself listen to it when the others were around, just bc he knew he’d want to stim and he couLDNT bc what if he got juDGED
but then one day roman starts singing and patton jumps up and starts spinning and virgils like “???” and logans like “that’s how they stim” and virgils like “!!!!”
he Tappy Leg Real Fast
he also has a string of beads he carries everywhere to twist around his fingers bc bead,,, Good Texture
he struggles with rsd just as badly as roman, but he shows it in a Different Way
roman hurts, but hes an actor. he’s not about to invite more rejection by letting them know how much their words hurt! no no no, he keeps up the bravado until hes back in his room and then he breaks
but virgil. the rsd hits and its like, a physical blow to his chest and he crumples, wilting in on himself, and the world around him just sorta, ebbs away. for virgil, rsd is static
after AA the others start to learn his Signs for when hes feeling Bad™ so whenever he shrinks away they’ll stop the conversation and talk him through his insecurities until he feels better
SPOOKY HYPERFIXATIONS ALL THE WAY
went to Halloween Horror Nights one (1) time and now listens to the music on repeat and just. stims for hours
also hes in love with austin gumbam from academy of villains me? self projecting? never
knows Every Obscure Fact from Every Horror Movie Ever and the urge to infodump is Consntantly at the forefront of his mind but he Never Does
unless someone gives him permission
virgil: oh? chucky? thats a. cool movie.  did you know that — uh. nvm
logan: no no, go on
virgil, vibrating at a speed that could shatter glass: iF YOU INSIST-
LOGAN,,,,
this bitch is just as bad at Emotional Regulation as patton
hes just better at hiding it
that little stunt w the paper in lntao? he is Constantly .5 seconds away from going apeshitt. that was just A Glimpse into the chaos
he’s just,,,, very very bad at Identifying what he’s feeling. patton hid his feelings from the others, but he still knew what he was feeling, and he knows how to identify emotions
logan, on the other hand?
logan: passion and anger are both Hot. they must be The Same Thing
patton: i. i mean. not really
logan: goddamnit
or
patton: logan? are you crying?
logan, touching his cheek and finding Tears: hm. tragic. and here i thought i was “happy”
he’d much rather just,,, Not feel but thats not an option bc he still feels things intensely, he just doesnt know What he’s feeling most of the time
quiet stims. he runs his hands along the fabric of his tie, feeling the grooves of the stitches, and readjusts his glasses constantly. if he’s feelin extra wild, he’ll even pull out his rubix cube and solve and re-solve it without even looking
LOTS of obscure hyperfixations
he has so many books on so many different subjects,,,, his room is more of a library than a bedroom and thats just the way he likes it
throwback to that one time he hyperfixated on reptiles and thomas’ little “slimy boy” outburst had him chasing deceit around the mindscape trying to feel his scales “FOR SCIENCE”
memory. problems.
he HATES hates hates hates the fact that things slip his mind so easily. hence, the notebook, and the daily planner, and the deluge of postits hanging around his bedroom
it frustrates him to no end especiaLLY when he forgets important information in front of thomas
patton watches out for the signs of Frustration and brings logan a cup of tea later than day and helps him sort through the Mess of notes on his desk to catalogue the Important Info
just let logan and patton be adhd buds @god bls i beggeth
but when he does remember The Information and thomas praises him? effervescent
logan, after thomas called him cool, kicking down pattons door: I FINALLY KNOW WHAT HAPPINESS TRULY FEELS LIKE
patton: hey! cool your jets there, kiddo!
logan:
patton: :3c
logan, turning around: neveRMIND
patton: nO WAI T-
the day thomas called him cool was the first time he ever Flapped

--- --- ---
Roman was in the kitchen, pointedly and carefully mixing the batter with very steady and repeated motions. He had elected to do it by hand, mostly because he didn’t know where the mixer-insert-things for the electric mixer were, but he had to admit, his hand was cramping a little.
But he’d rather focus on his cramping hand than the argument he had with Virgil. And Patton. And he knew it was bad because Logan didn’t even talk to him afterwards, and usually he’d get some sort of lecture.
He shook his head and made sure to scrape along the edge of the bowl, where some of the mix was still uncombined.
Footsteps dragged his attention away from the bowl, and he looked up to see his brother descending the stairs, looking… oddly upset. Remus didn’t usually get upset, as far as he knew, so this was already weird. And, well, what was pissing off one more person today?
“Why the long face?” he called, still mixing his batter even as he watched Remus’ face twist.
“Had an argument,” Remus replied, and he rubbed his arms before making a beeline to the kitchen too. “…Jan’s not very happy with me right now. And Logan was pretty pissed too.”
“That might have been my fault,” Roman sighed. “I… I fought with V and Pat today. Think I might have upset Logan too. So… sorry.”
“Whatever,” Remus huffed, and he sidled around the counter to stand beside his brother. “It’s… whatever. What are you making?”
“Muffins,” Roman said distractedly. “They’re supposed to be a peace offering.”
“…The only sort of offering they’re gonna be is a burnt offering to the gods,” Remus leant over and poked at the mixture. “Aren’t you not supposed to overbeat muffin batter?”
Roman froze, before looking down at the bowl for the first time in a good few minutes, and blinked so very slowly as he realised his brother was very right, and he’d thoroughly ruined this batch.
“Oh,” he said, and hated the fact that his voice was wobbling. “Oh, bother.”
“Sorry there, Poo-bear,” Remus took the bowl out of his hands. “But I mean, we could still make ‘em.”
“I couldn’t give them to Patton and Virgil, and Logan, if the texture’s awful.”
“I guess not.” Remus looked down at the bowl, shrugged, and set it aside. “But a peace offering is a good idea. Wanna divide and conquer? I’ll help you if we make enough to give to Janus as well.”
“Sure,” Roman said, and Remus gave him a hard look as Roman’s voice cracked, and he genuinely sounded very close to tears.
Roman turned away for a second, putting his back to his brother, but it was impossible to fully hide the gesture of wiping his face.
“I know,” Remus hummed, patting Roman’s shoulder. “It… it’s really been one of those days.”
Suddenly, Roman spun on his heel and launched himself at Remus, throwing his arms around him and pulling his brother into a tight hug. Remus reeled for a second, before his brain caught up with he situation, and he returned the favour.
“At least you don’t hate me,” he said, before he could think not to.
“You’re my brother,” Roman replied. “I don’t hate you. I also do, because you’re my brother, but I love you. Y’know?”
“I know,” Remus agreed with a laugh that was far wetter than he would have liked. “You got my back and I got yours.”
“Of course,” Roman agreed, and they separated to stand side by side in the kitchen.
There was a beat of silence, where all they did was take in the state of the room, before Remus turned to Roman.
“I’m not normally the one who says this,” he said, with a hint of a smile playing about his face. “But it’s a fucking mess in here.”
Roman laughed at that, but he was rubbing his neck awkwardly. “I was a little pre-occupied.”
And yes, there was stray ingredients and bowls and equipment and god knew what else strewn everywhere, and Remus shook his head and lifted his hands like an orchestra conductor, before gesturing broad and wide, and Roman watched the mess clean itself, including the failed muffin batter disappearing into thin air.
“Let’s start again,” Remus suggested. “And let’s not do muffins.”
“Fair enough,” Roman agreed. “I don’t even think Virgil likesmuffins.”
Patton came downstairs two hours later, drained after lengthy chats with Virgil and with Janus, to find both twins in the kitchen, laughing as they finished making something. He… he couldn’t see quite what, but Roman had a pitcher of chocolate ganache and Remus had a piping bag full of whipped cream, and they were too busy laughing at each other to notice Patton descending the stairs.
However, that changed when he hit a creaky floorboard, and the twin’s heads snapped up like children caught doing something they shouldn’t.
Roman did his best to smile, though it was very shaky.
“Hi, Patton,” he said, and it was thin and strained. “I… we’ll clean up, I promise.”
“Okay,” Patton said, clasping his hands in front of him. “…Whatchya making?”
“Eclairs,” Remus said, and the look he shot Patton was almost suspicious, like he didn’t trust he wasn’t going to breeze in and upset Roman again.
Neither of them missed how Patton perked up at that.
“Here,” Roman gestured his friend over, and Patton closed the distance to see a huge batch of iced and creamed eclairs sitting in rows on the bench. There was only a half-dozen unfinished, which they were quickly working on remedying. “Help yourself. As… as an apology.”
Patton smiled, this time a lot more genuinely. He knew the sort of work that went into a dessert like this, and he knew Roman wasn’t the best at verbal apologies.
“Thank you,” he said softly, trying to let his tone carry the extra meaning he intended. It worked, he thought, because Roman’s eyes flicked over to him from the éclair he was still icing, and he smiled a little back.
“Of course,” he said. “…Would you mind taking some to the others, too?”
“I don’t know if they’ll want to see us,” Remus agreed, finishing filling the last few eclairs with cream, not looking up at Patton.
“Of course,” Patton agreed. “Let me grab a plate, then.”
He left with a plate of eclairs to do the rounds with, leaving Remus and Roman to clean up.
“That went smoothly,” Remus noted as they magicked away their mess.
“I’m glad,” Roman sighed. “I hate it when this sort of thing happens. I mean, I bring it on myself, but I hate it.”
“Hey, it takes two to tango, alright? It’s not just your fault.”
“I suppose that’s true.”
Remus loaded up a plate with the pastries before stacking the rest away in containers in the fridge. He handed Roman a couple bottles of soft drink that he had to move out of the way to fit the treats in, and smirked at him.
“Let’s have a little party of our own, then, while they’re all moping.”
“So we can mope in our own time.”
“If that’s really how you want to spend our little party, then fine.”
Roman laughed at that, and grabbed some glasses as Remus closed the fridge and preceeded to carry the plate over to the couch.
Afternoon tea was the only really good and fun part of their day, that day, with the TV tuned to the dumbest game shows they could find, laughing at the stupid contestants and eating the best treats they’d made in a while until the day mellowed out.

Brave face, talk so lightly(hide the truth)

'All my life, I've just wanted to make things easier for them.'
Au August
Day/Prompt: Day 26 - Soulmate
Ship: Prinxiety, brief logicality, creativitwins
Word count: 3k (I'm so sorry I got carried away)
Cw: swearing / brief murder mention / implied death / crying / nightmares(?) / anxiety mention / caps / claustrophobia(?)
A/N: the prompt is your dreams are your soulmate's memories. The title is from the song "Sick of losing soulmates" by dodie. I wrote the first 1/4 of this a few days ago and the rest in one sitting and I couldn't care less about proofreading it so Im so sorry if there are any mistakes ;-;
@tsshipmonth2020
I see a girl in the distance. She has her back turned. Long chocolate-colored hair tied in a low messy bun. My hand is reaching out to her. I feel this sudden longing to be held by this woman. Craving her caring and loving words. Telling me that everything is going to be alright.
Wait. Why is she getting farther away?
She looks back at me with a sad smile. Everything gets dark. I let my eyes stray from her to look around. When was I in a hospital corridor?
"I'm sorry, Pumpkin. You're gonna have to continue our adventure without me. But, fear not, Little one. I'll always be there by you. You just gotta learn to know where I am,"
She caresses my cheek, giving me the warmest smile I have ever received.
She's gone, suddenly. I touch my cheek, still feeling the ghost of her warm touch. Along with… something wet? Am- Am I crying?
"Roman!"
I don't move. I feel stuck. But, also free, somehow. Just unsure of what to do, I guess?
"Roman! Wake up. You idiot!
"Roman!
"Oh, thank all things unholy! I thought someone was in our room, trying to murder us! You were crying, and- and whispering stuff! And it's creeping me the fuck out! And I'm not easily creeped out, you know that" Remus exclaimed as he sat on Roman's chest, grabbing his twin’s shoulders.
"Man, you're soulmate must have some twisted memories," He continued, getting off of Roman and returning to his own bed across the room.
'Yeah. Twisted…' Roman thought.
~*~*~
"You okay there, Sweetie?" Roman heard from where his head was buried on the kitchen counter. "Yeah... Just thinking about my soulmate again," he admitted.
"Another bad dream?" His mom inquired as she sat next to Roman, patting his back. "It's not just that. It's about the move. Like, we're never really sure which of our memories they see, right? But, they've seen all my memories from this place. Like, they know where I've been my entire life…" he trailed off.
"I'm just not sure how they would feel seeing a whole new different place… They don't seem to be in a place to experience a big change right now. All my life, I've just wanted to make things easier for them. And, yeah, my dreams don't really change that much. But, I make an effort, y'know?" Roman looked up at his mom to seek at least some kind of reassurance.
"I understand what you mean, and I think that what you're doing is great. And I know that you're gonna be the bestest thing that's ever gonna happen to them. But, I'm really sorry. We don't really have any choice with this move. I know your soulmate is in a dark place right now, but you can't always do everything for them. You're also your own person," His mom hugged him.
Roman felt like he was hopeless in this situation. And, he was always hoping for the best. For his soulmate or otherwise. Maybe his mom was right about putting himself first sometimes.
~*~*~
Virgil was in his first period when someone he didn't expect to walk into his classroom… walks into his classroom… They were wearing an army green shirt, a denim jacket with neon green highlights and spikes at the bottom, ripped jeans, and platform boots with more spikes and vulgar words written on them. To say that this man was familiar was an understatement. He KNEW this man's entire life THROUGH his dreams.
Virgil felt like he was trespassing someone's life. Like, he wasn't supposed to know the man. And that, they shouldn't be in any way related. Especially to their sibling.
He wasn't really ecstatic about meeting his soulmate. IN SCHOOL NO LESS. It wasn't really an ideal 'meet-your-soulmate' place for someone like Virgil.
"Alright, students, I'm sure you've all noticed that we have a new student right here. Now, why don't you go and introduce yourself, Mister," their teacher said to the denim jacket guy.
"Umm. Sup? I'm Remus Duke Kingsley. Nice to meet you all. And, if you see a guy that looks like me but without the mustache and wears red all the time, he’s always loud, you can’t miss him. That's my twin brother, Roman. The boring one," Remus says, yawning by the end of his introduction.
'HOLY FUCK, TWINS?!' Virgil thought. Fortunately(or unfortunately, depending on which part of Virgil's brain you're asking), Remus already gave him a vague description of who to look out for.
~*~*~
Virgil continues his day and falls into his daily routine, which mostly includes attempting to avoid being perceived by anyone. It usually succeeds if you exclude his friend, Patton, from ‘anyone.’ He only hopes that his soulmate also sees Patton in their dreams cuz, to be honest, Patton is the ray of sunshine everyone needs. Yeah, he was also friends with Logan, but he’s more like a moon if you ask him.
Virgil goes into the cafeteria and sits at their usual table, his back facing the entire cafeteria. He takes out a paper bag from his bag and grabs the sandwich he bought earlier, not waiting for his friends.
A few moments pass before Logan and Patton reach his table. “Hey, kiddo! You alright?” Patton says as he sits down. Virgil just gives them a nod and continues to eat. “I heard this morning that there were new students,” Logan inquires before Patton interrupts “Oh yeah! They’re twins! I have first period with one of them. He’s really nice. Oh! Hey! Roman! Over here!” Patton shouts and waves his arm toward a student that just entered the cafeteria. “Hope you guys don’t mind that I invited him over to sit with us,” He continues and flashes both Virgil and Logan a smile no one could say no to.
“Hey, Patton.” The guy says to Patton. “Hope you guys don’t mind me crashing your table. I’m Roman by the way,” Roman says to the other two. “Pleasure to meet you, Roman. I’m Logan. And, no, we wouldn’t mind at all,” Logan answered him back. Roman looked over to Virgil who just nodded and said his name. Roman then proceeded to sit next to Virgil but not paying him any mind.
And, though Virgil seemed to be calm about the situation, his mind is currently in flames having his anxiety and his gay panic fight over each other. Virgil is currently waiting for who would win, that's why he seems so calm on the outside. After finishing his sandwich, he was trying to think of something he could do to keep himself from leaving and be noticed. He looked over to Logan, attentively listening to Patton talking about the dog he saw this morning. Roman was silently eating his lunch, also listening to Patton, but looking around the cafeteria every once in a while.
It seems that Virgil’s anxiety won the fight because he decided that he doesn’t want to stick around with his friends and his apparent soulmate without doing anything. So, he stands up and excuses himself from the group. "Hey! Wait!" Roman calls after him. Virgil stops a few feet from the table to look back at Roman who was already jogging towards him.
"Virgil, right?" He assures.
Virgil nods. "Ok, there’s just something I wanna ask you. Are those two soulmates?" Roman throws his thumb back, pointing at the two left at the table. "Cuz, as much as how adorable they look together, I kinda don't want to be stuck as a third wheel," he continues.
"Oh. Yeah, those two are soulmates. Sometimes, I wonder if they ever do notice me every time I leave the table," Virgil elaborates, looking back at his friends with a slight smile.
"Umm. Class doesn't start for a few more minutes. I was wondering if I could join you for a while? Wherever you were going…" Roman trailed off, realizing he didn't know where the shorter male was headed.
"Uhh. Yeah, sure. I was just headed to the courtyard to pass the time,"
'Shit. Virgil, why are you doing this?! Why did you agree?! You have anxiety!' Virgil mentally scolded himself.
"Ok. Cool. I'll just go get my stuff," Roman flashed Virgil a smile before heading back to the table.
'Fuck. I am so screwed,' Virgil thought.
~*~*~
"So, what's the deal with those two? I mean, how did they deal with the soulmates thing?" Roman finally spoke a few moments after they found a bench to settle on. "Uhh, well. Logan is my childhood friend and the first day we started high school here, they both had a dream of roll call the other had that day, I guess? They both heard each other's name and boom. You got your glasses gays," Virgil discussed, reminiscing the events that happened that day.
Roman let out a chuckle at Virgil's last words, causing the other's heart to skip a beat. They remain silent for a while, watching the other students passing by.
"What about you?" Roman spoke up.
"What about me?" Virgil glances back.
"I mean, what about you? Have you met your soulmate? Do you know who they are? You just seem like an interesting individual to me, having to stick around knowing you're third-wheeling all the time yet valuing your time with them and your time with yourself all the same. Well, either that or I'm just embarrassed that I think you're uncomfortable with me here…" Roman rambled, rubbing the back of his neck, embarrassed.
Virgil chuckled, "Nah. I just get anxious when meeting new people. Plus, I think you're a pretty nice guy." They smiled at each other, Virgil feeling his face heat up, and looks away immediately. "And, about the soulmate thing. I think I have a clue of who they might be, I just…" he trailed off.
"What's holding you back?" Roman muttered, lowering his head, attempting to catch the other's eye. "I… I just think that my memories aren't that… for them. They're just this amazing and joyful person… I just don't think they deserve to see my bland memories every night,"
The pair fell silent, Roman feeling sympathy for the other. Virgil felt Roman shift in his seat before speaking up, "I don't think anyone's memories are ever bland."
Virgil looks up at Roman who has a far-off look with a slight smile on his lips. "I think that our dreams are what shows us what we're missing in life. What our soulmate has that we need and what we have that they need. You know, what makes you both feel complete when you're with each other," Roman smiled.
Virgil pondered on the other's statement for a while. "Is that... Is that how you feel when you're with your soulmate?" He said, being careful with his words. Roman sighed but remained smiling, "I haven't met them yet. But, what you said earlier reminded me of them. I always think they're a little different. My moms said that dreams are supposed to show my soulmate's memories. But, no one is ever sure which ones we see. Well, my dreams always have one thing in common… There's darkness every time…" Roman trailed off, looking more sad as he continued.
"Sometimes, they walk out of their house and, suddenly, everything goes dark and I see pairs of eyes staring at me as I walk. Or sometimes, they lie in bed and, suddenly, it's dark again and I'm stuck inside a box too small for me. But, there’s always this one dream that always repeats itself. Though, I'm not sure my soulmate's gonna be comfortable with me sharing," Roman finally snaps out of his trance and looks up at Virgil, looking embarrassed.
At this point, Virgil is now entirely sure that the person in front of him is his soulmate. He feels tears cloud his eyes so he looks away to play off wiping them away before looking back at Roman with pity in his expression. This is exactly what Virgil was afraid of, having his soulmate also experience the darkness that clouds him every day he wakes up.
"Wow… They- I- I don't know what to say… What are you gonna do when you meet them?" Virgil glances at Roman, pity still in his eyes. Roman let out a sigh but smiled, "I'm gonna give them the biggest hug they've ever received and reassure them that I'm always gonna be with them and that they'll never have to feel alone all the time ever again." Roman looked at Virgil with a smile. But, before he could notice the tear that fell from the other's eye, a loud shrill of their school bell rang throughout the courtyard, signaling the start of their next class.
"Talk about first impressions," Roman said with a chuckle, standing up. "Well, see you around, Virgil. I got a few more 'Hi, I'm Roman' to do," he continued, leaving Virgil on the bench.
~*~*~
I hear my converse squeak as I walk through the hallway. There are people around me, but they're all just silhouettes of the same familiar darkness. I'm walking to what seems to be the cafeteria. I sit down and grab my lunch from my bag. A few minutes pass, two figures sit in front of me. There's something familiar about them despite being two black silhouettes.
"Hey, kiddo! You alright?"
Patton?
"I heard there were new students," Logan?
Wait. Am I…
"Oh yeah! They're twins!"
Oh.
"I have first period with one of them. He's really nice. Oh! Hey! Roman! Over here!"
Before I could look over to… me…
Darkness. Again.
I hear muffled voices. Too muffled to be recognized.
I stay in darkness for what felt like hours before I get surrounded by light.
Too bright.
There's a silhouette in front of me. It doesn't have any facial features but I can feel it stare at me. Slowly, the light around me doesn't feel too bright anymore. It feels… warm and comforting. Similar to the feeling I have in my chest, along with a squeezing feeling. I feel tears cloud my eyes, but I feel happy, somehow?
I feel someone embrace me. I look up to see the silhouette. Its arms around me, like it's protecting me. I feel secure. I feel loved.
I hug back, breaking down in its arms.
"You don't have to be alone anymore"
I hear my own voice. I break down sobbing, seeking more of the silhouette's warmth.
I stopped sobbing after a while but remained in the silhouette's arms for what felt like hours.
"You gotta wake him up!" I heard a distant voice say in a hushed tone.
"No, he hasn't slept like this since who knows when… Something must've happened yesterday..."
I feel myself slowly drifting from where I was standing.
"We can just tell the school he's sick"
"On the second day?"
I feel someone caress my cheek.
"You can stay too if you want"
"Hey, sweetie," Roman opens his eyes to his mom in front of him.
"What's going on? Why are you all in our room?" Roman asks as he sits up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He eyes Remus standing in front of their mama. Their mom is sitting on the edge of Roman's bed, facing him.
"Well, sweetie. You see, you just had a full night's sleep," their mom explained.
"You looked so peaceful too," their mama added with a smile. Roman stopped to let the events of his dream last night come back to him.
"Roman, is everything ok?" Their mama walked over to him, tucking a few strands of his hair behind his ear. "Yeah… Yeah, I'm okay!" He flashed a smile to his moms, meaning what he said.
~*~*~
Roman hadn't been able to sit still ever since he got to school. 'Late', he should add. Apparently, he overslept while Remus and their moms decide whether to wake him up or not.
When they got to school in the middle of first period, they were excused because their moms were there to explain. With a slightly bent truth, of course.
Roman had to wait three(and a half) classes to talk to Virgil. They didn't have any classes together, to which Roman was bummed to find out. When the bell rang, signaling their lunch break, Roman hurriedly headed to the cafeteria. When he got there, he spotted Virgil just about to sit down at their usual table.
"Uhh. Virgil? Can I talk to you for a sec?" Roman felt awkward, to say the least.
"Uhm. Sure," Virgil replied, standing up. Roman led them under a tree in the courtyard, away from other students. They stayed silent for a while before Virgil spoke up, "So… what'd you wanted to talk about?"
Roman just stared at Virgil for a few moments, examining him, before enveloping him in a tight hug. Virgil stood frozen for a while, surprised at the gesture. He slowly placed his hands on Roman's back, still confused at the sudden affection.
"You're not alone anymore, Pumpkin," Roman said in a gentle voice, cradling the other's head. Virgil froze when he heard the nickname. His expression then softens and hugs Roman tighter, burying his face on the taller male’s shoulder.
"How did you find out?" Roman heard, slightly muffled by his jacket. "Had a dream about yesterday," Roman simply stated, not elaborating more. "What about you? You said you had a clue. Oh! That rhymed,"
They both laughed.
"I have first period with Remus and I recognized him right away," Virgil replied, his face still buried on Roman's shoulder. "Oh, I'm so sorry you have to deal with him," Roman chuckled.
"No, I'm sorry you had to deal with him your entire life,"
"Well, we're not alone anymore now, are we? Roman asked with a serious tone. Virgil parted a few inches from Roman, still holding on to him. He smiled as he looked up at Roman, "No, we're not."
This might be the last one I'll do for AU august but I'm also deciding if I should go back to the prompts I missed when I was sick hmm
I wish I included Remus more in this but it was already 3k words and thats the longest I've ever written so maybe its for the best XD

Protective
Sanders Sides
Summary: Virgil occasionally goes into what Roman has dubbed “Protective mom mode”
A/N: this is a tiny ficlet off a concept i find hilarious which is virgil being super protective and practically baby proofing the house, also im slowly accepting deceit/janus. i still have personal issues with him but im getting better, so this is actually the first fic ive written with him in it where hes not evil
---
It was mostly funny.
It was a little annoying, but mostly funny.
Virgil was a little over anxious recently, not majorly, just in a specific way that manifested differently.
Right now he was in what Roman dubbed “Protective Mom Mode”
Roman did his best not to laugh when Virgil put protective coverings over the electrical sockets or lengthened the oven mitts, but sometimes it seemed like he was wrangling children.
Which he was in a way.
“Roman, get that hot pepper away from your mouth this instant. I don’t care that you got the guts to try it you could get hurt or get sick. Put it down!”
“Janus, you edgy bitch, if I see you holding a knife anywhere but a sandwich-”
“PATTON, DON’T PUT YOUR BARE HANDS IN THE OVEN TO TAKE OUT COOKIES! WE HAVE OVEN MITTS FOR A REASON!”
“Logan, when you’re hanging your charts please for the love of god do not hammer your thumb again. Wear padded gloves.”
“REMUS, IF YOU GET ON THE ROOF ONE MORE TIME I WILL KILL YOU MYSELF!”
“Roman, don’t even think about practicing sword fighting without your safety equipment again- AND THAT INCLUDES A MOUTH GUARD!”
“Patton, I love you, but don’t slide on the hardwood floor with bare socks. You could slip and hurt yourself.”
“Remus, be careful with the mace- DON’T SWING IT IN THE HOUSE!”
Most of them agreed it was kind of endearing how he much he cared. Except, Remus who just wanted to streak on the roof.
They all just thanked the world the bubble wrap incident hadn’t repeated.

A band aid on a broken heart
 It’s been over a month since the wedding, and gradually things are returning to normal. Or… something like normal anyway.
They’ve fallen into new routines at meal times, and Patton finds comfort in them, even if it isn’t quite the same as it was before. He supposes though, that the same as before maybe shouldn’t be what he’s aiming for.
Virgil and Roman never come to breakfast anymore, and so it’s become a time for Patton, Logan and Janus to plan schedules. Not that Patton has much to contribute, but he enjoys the excuse to hang out with the two of them. he loves they way they light up while they debate, a fire igniting in their eyes that Patton has never really taken to time to appreciate before.
At lunch time Patton puts out a spread of sandwiches, and the other sides filter in and out of the kitchens, rarely stopping to talk. It’s the most familiar part of the day if he’s being honest. One time Logan walked in with his nose stuck in a book, didn’t look up, and Patton pushed a sandwich into his hand as Logan had grasped around the plate looking for one. He walked out again without saying anything, only a nod to even acknowledge that he had even noticed the other side’s presence. Patton’s heart had swelled. It was the most normal scene he had been in in a long time. after all of the awkward stumbling around each other and the stunted polite conversation, it was nice to just be comfortable existing in each other’s space.
Dinnertime has been… hit and miss. Two weeks ago he had gotten the courage to go around and knock on everyone’s doors and tell them he was making dinner and, well it could have gone worse. Roman came down, although he hadn’t spoken to them. Logan had sat with a Hanji book for the entire dinner, and Virgil had almost immediately fled the scene, barely even touching his food. As for the other two, well… Janus had assured Patton that Remus would not eat regular food, and he shouldn’t invite him, but he had still felt bad for not calling him to dinner. As for Janus himself, well he had said it was a “bad idea”. Patton hadn’t liked that answer, but Janus assured him he should be focusing on smaller goals first, rather than trying to repair Janus’ relationships with the other sides.
Since then, Patton had had varying levels of success. Some nights only Logan would show up, very rarely he would manage to get all of them into the kitchen, though it never lasted long.
One time Remus showed up and well… they had silently, and mutually, agreed not to talk about that night. The first time he had managed to coax Janus downstairs with promises of pasta and wine it had devolved into a hissing match between him and Virgil. So, better than Patton had expected.
Patton stirs the pot of pasta, wondering absentmindedly how many people will be coming for dinner. He always makes enough for seven, although he knows they’ll never have a full table. he opens the lid of the second pot, and gives the sauce a quick stir before turning it down to a simmer. Behind him someone makes a noise of deep contentment. Patton smiles. “Wow Jan, I would have never guessed you had such n-oodles of love for pasta. Tell me, is it the ravi-only way to your heart?” he sneaks a glance back at Janus to see he reaction, but the other side catches his eye with a smirk. Patton looks back at the pot too quickly to see the soft smile that crosses Janus’ face as he shrugs.
“I lived exclusively on microwave meals and chicken nuggets for the past thirty years. Can you blame me?” Janus sidles up to Patton, batting his eyes innocently as he sneaks some food out of the pot. Patton fixes him with an aghast look.
“Have you ever tried cooking with Remus?” Patton shudders at the thought. “As I said,” Janus continues. “the less chance for things to go wrong, the better.” Patton isn’t sure if he should smile or grimace at Janus, but before he can decide the door to the kitchen opens.
“Roman!” Patton cries excitedly. It’s been a couple of days since Roman last made it down to dinner. Patton wants to check in on him, see how he’s doing, talk about what he’s working on, but Roman hasn’t exactly been wanting to talk lately. “Food’s almost ready,” He says instead. “I’m making your favourite, tagliatelle!” He fixes Roman with his brightest and best dad smile, but Roman’s returning one is tight and artificial. Patton tries not to let it get to him, keeping up the happy attitude. He can feel Janus frowning at him.
Moments later, Logan comes into the room; latest read tucked under one arm. He tidies the table, but doesn’t set it. Seeing all of the empty setting had started getting to Patton, so now people just get their plates as they turn up.
Patton stars piling bowls, Roman first, then Logan, then Janus. As he’s about to fill his own he hears quiet movement, and a hush falls over the room. He forces himself not to freeze in place, instead smiling brightly at Virgil, careful not to be too loud.
“Virgil!” He beckons the side over. “Good to see you, pasta?”
Virgil hesitates, taking in the room. Janus smirks a him, and Patton spots the beginnings of what will rapidly become another petty and pointless argument. He shoots a look at the other side. Janus rolls his eyes, but takes his seat without another word.
Shoving his hands into his hoody pockets, Virgil quietly makes his way to Patton. “Sure. Sounds great.” Patton tried to keep his excitement on the inside; it’s the most that Virgil has said aloud in days.
Taking his bowl with a nod of thanks, Virgil takes a seat at the table as far away from Janus as possible, finding Logan levels of literalism in the phrase “on the edge of his seat”. Patton attempts to start a casual conversation around the table, asking Logan about the book he’s reading. As Logan lights up and begins mapping out the plot of the book, the mood lightens up a little. At one point Patton could swear he even sees Virgil smile. This all comes crashing down about halfway through dinner, when Logan asks Roman what he’s working on.
Patton sees Roman’s smile falter and slip off of his face, and it feels like a punch to the gut. Virgil tenses up across the table, but Roman just tries to dismiss the question with a wave of a hand.
“Oh you know, this and that,” he murmurs. “You’ll see it when it’s finished.” Logan frowns, but doesn’t push the matter further. Janus seems to have other ideas.
“If you’re having creative block, ignoring it is definitely going to help.” Patton winces, but Janus is making steady eye contact with Roman now, and it’s evident that he sees this as a battle worth fighting.
“What, me? Creative block?” Roman is louder now, pulling in some swagger that Patton has barely seen in weeks. “Foul fiend I- I am the embodiment of Creativity!” He sputters as he speaks. “Or course no such thing could happen to me!”
“Do you forget who I am?” Janus asks quietly. His voice barely a whisper in the wind, as though it were simply an exasperated afterthought. Before Roman can reply, he continues pushing. “Great, you definitely haven’t already had the talk about what a good idea it is to wait for an idea to be perfect before presenting it.”
“Hah! What would you know about creativity, Lie Mis?” Roman stands, waving his arms and shouting, before turning away from Janus, His voice cracks as he speaks, and Patton’s heart flutters nervously, unsure how to defuse the situation.
“Hey Kiddos,” he says. “How about we all just take a breather and stop for a moment-”
“No!” Roman shouts. “I can see that you clearly don’t need me here.” His voice hitches, and Patton feels frantic. “Since apparently he knows everything I’ll just, just-”
“Roman! That’s not true!” Patton stands at the table, and moves to reach for Roman, but the other side flinches away.
“Because everyone here is such an expert in what’s true,” he mutters.
“Roman,” Patton realises with some surprise that it’s Janus speaking, his voice softened as he lets out a gentle sigh. “I’m not-” they don’t get to hear the rest of the sentence, as Roman cuts him off with a harsh laugh.
“I don’t need any more of your lies, Deceit.” Then he sinks out. A silence echoes around the room, palpable enough to be deafening. Patton looks over at Janus, but whatever vulnerability he hard in his voice moments ago is gone, replaced with a cold hard nothing. His expression an unreadable marble.
“Well, I think that went well,” he says airily, continuing to eat. Across the room Virgil hisses at him, teeth bared. Janus simply raises an eyebrow at him. Patton isn’t sure if it’s a question or a challenge.
“Can you for once in your fucking miserable existence just fucking-” Virgil waves a hand in the air, unsure how to finish his sentence, or perhaps hoping to pull the words from the air. “Not be you!” he stands in place, shaking with anger.
“Oh?” Deceit says, smiling lazily. “And who would you like me to be?” He holds up a hand as though to snap his fingers.
“Don’t. You. Dare.” Virgil grinds out, his teeth gritted. Absently, Patton wonders if Virgil has fangs. He’s never notices them before. “You can’t just… lie, all the time, and expect people to trust you!”
Janus huffs out a breath, almost a laugh, almost… something else. “Because the truth has always gone so well for me in the past.” It’s quiet, quiet enough that Patton can hardly be sure Janus meant to say it at all.
In response Virgil simply bares his teeth again. “Like you’ve ever even tried it,” he hisses. Then he’s gone.
Patton stands, his eyes wide. He fights back tears, instead straightening up, trying to pull himself together.
“I’m, I’m going to go- go check on Virgil,” he says, fighting a wobble in his voice.
“You won’t be able to find him,” Janus replies. “Not if he doesn’t want to be found,”
“Well,” Patton clenches his fist, then relaxes. “I have to try anyway. If he does want me, I’ll be there,” just barely perceptible, he could swear he sees Janus flinch.
---
In the end Janus is right. Virgil is nowhere to be found. At one point he thinks he sees his door at the end of a hallway, but by the time he reaches it it’s gone. He lets out a cry of frustration. Normally he loves the mind palace, with it’s sprawling corridors and nonsensical patterns. If you aren’t paying attention you can walk for hours without running into anyone else.
Normally, this doesn’t work against him. when he’s looking for someone, he finds that his feet naturally take him where he needs to go. But Virgil seems to have mastered the shifting halls, and folded himself away in a corner that Patton isn’t sure how to access.
When he returns to the kitchen, he’s surprised to find Janus and Logan still there, in the middle of cleaning up after dinner.
“Oh, I was just about to get to-” but Janus interrupts him with a wave of his hand.
“It’s no trouble.”
“He thought you might need the break,” Logan adds. Janus glares at him, and Patton suppresses a smile.
“I did not say-”
“You implied, did you not?” Logan asks inquisitively. “I have been studying your dialogue, and you said-”
“There’s no need!” Janus shouts, with panic evident. The laugh that Patton has been squashing down bursts out, and Janus turns away; furiously scrubbing at the dishes in the sink.
“Fascinating,” Logan breathes. “Is only half of your face capable of blushing?” he asks, ducking his own head to get a better look at Janus’ face. “What exactly is your biology like? Are you in fact part snake, or is it appearance only? Thomas did imply…” Logan continues muttering to himself about biology, but Patton doesn’t understand any of it. He’s just happy to see that the other two sides are getting along.
Janus moves away hurriedly as he places the last dish on the drying rack, pulling off his gloves. Patton frowns.
“Janus,” he begins carefully. “Were you wearing those gloves… over your other gloves?”
“No.” Janus moves into the front room, sitting on the sofa with a thump to sulk. Patton suppresses another giggle.
Logan and Patton share a rare smile, before Logan clears his throat and announces his exit, already absorbed in his book once more before he’s even left the room.
Patton takes a seat next to Janus, and the two of them sit together in silence for a while. Janus has produces a crossword from somewhere in his cape, and is dutifully filling it in while Patton hums a tune to himself as he looks through his box of movies. It’s nice, and the quiet is only broken but Patton’s occasional suggestion of film, always swiftly followed by a sharp rejection.
The two sides have yet to actually watch a film together, though this has become something of a regular occurrence between the two of them. regular enough for Patton to know that Janus never actually solves the puzzles he brings. He does however find rather interesting solutions that definitely are not the intended answer. He always says that he simply has “his own interpretation of the rules”.
Patton finds himself knowing all sorts of little details about the other side, he realises. He knows that his favourite food is breakfast, whenever it isn’t supposed to be eaten. Pancakes at 2am, eggs and toast for lunch… and so on. He knows the other side is remarkably well read, and has a fondness for face masks, though he himself doesn’t use them. Patton’s skin has never felt clearer though. Janus is excellent at nail varnish, but terrible at applying makeup. However-
“27 dresses?” Patton tries.
“Ah yes, the love interest in that film isn’t creepy at all.” Janus rolls his eyes.
-He still hasn’t figured out what kind of TV the other side watches. Patton sighs in defeat, pushing the box away from himself for the evening. So far the chick flick category has turned out to be a total bust, and he’s ready to give up on it. he’s beginning to have strong suspicions that maybe Janus likes the types of movies that Patton doesn’t like at all, but he won’t be deterred.
“Hey, Janus,” he starts softly, but he can already see the other side tensing up. “About earlier-”
“I’m not apologising to Roman,” he replies shortly. Yeah, Patton pretty much saw that one coming.
“I wasn’t going to ask you to.” Janus looks over at him now, eyes narrow. “I just…” despite all of the time Patton has spent looking for the right way to go about the conversation, he still finds himself at a loss for words  “Wondered if… maybe you could talk? If you could get to know each other-”
“He doesn’t want to get to know me,” Janus sighs. “I’m not going to just keep on-” he cuts himself off with a sharp intake of breath. Patton wants to know, but he resolves not to push him.
“Maybe if-”
“If what?” Janus looks up, exasperated. “No matter what I do, Roman has already resolved to hate me. Same with Virgil. There is nothing I could possibly do to change their minds.” There’s a bitter sort of anger in his voice, that Patton hasn’t heard before. Not the biting sharpness of when he explodes at roman, not the playful tone he took in the courtroom. There’s a melancholy to it, but resigned. Patton isn’t really sure who it’s directed at.
“I mean, the arguing can’t help though.” Patton pushes.
“It’s better than the alternative.” Janus voice softens, almost sad. Hurt? Patton reaches out a hand to lay on Janus’ shoulder, but he shakes it off. Patton finds he’s thoroughly lost his footing in the conversation, unsure of what Janus is trying to say anymore, but not yet ready to make the final push to ask.
Janus doesn’t leave, but it’s clear that he’s done with the conversation. He picks up his book, turning a new page and beginning again. There are so  many questions bouncing around in Patton’s head. He doesn’t even know where to begin to unravel the mess he’s in. He wonders what happened between Virgil and Janus, he wants to know their history, as it becomes more and more evident that they have one. How did they get here? Whenever Janus talks about Virgil, it’s almost as though he’s talking about someone entirely different. Patton doesn’t know how to reconcile the two thoughts in his head.
He doesn’t ask though. instead, the two of them stay that way for the rest of the evening; silent in each other’s company. They’re both all too familiar with being alone to willingly submit to it again. not that either one of them would ever say it. maybe some things don’t need to be said, Patton thinks. Maybe that isn’t the point. Some days it can be enough just to exist near each other

The door slowly creaked open to reveal a small face with large peering eyes. The child only opened the door enough to see their face, and small hands wrapped around the edge. They seemed to be only 7 or 8 years old. There was so much curiosity in their wide eyes.
“Hello! I’m Patton. Who are you?” The small child asked, still hidden mostly by the door.
“H-h-e-ell-o m-m-my-y n-n-ame iss R-roman. I n-need sssome h-help.” Roman slurred, swaying back and forth in place.
“Patton! Close that door right now!” An older sounding voice yelled from further in the house. Roman thought he also heard some frantic footsteps as well.
This “Patton” turned around, opening the door more, and yelled back into the house.
“But dad! This guy said he needs help! He can't talk right! I wanna help him!!” As Patton said this they opened the door the rest of the way and wrapped their arms around Romans waist.
Roman could no longer comprehend what was going on really. He was quite sure if he stayed standing any longer, he would finally pass out. He couldn't feel anything anymore, which was probably bad. Everything felt like it was slow motion as another face showed up through the door. It seemed like this new person was trying to talk to him but everything sounded like it was underwater.
His vision was definitely getting worse. He tried to blink away the dark ring around what he was seeing, but everything was getting too heavy. He was feeling very, very light headed. With the last of his consciousness he pulled a few words together.
“I-i-im s-s-sor-ry-y.” and everything went black.
~~~
The world came back to Roman very slowly. He felt warm. So, so warm. He was glad he made it home. He vaguely remembered that his car had broken down at one point. The weird part was that he didn't remember how or when he had gotten home. But he did remember being very cold, and now he's not.
With his eyes still closed Roman shuffled around a bit. He was feeling more relaxed in the warmth around him then he remembers feeling in a long time. He let out a contented sigh, burrowing into the blankets around him further. The bed was so soft.
Wait.
He didn't own a bed. He slept on a couch, with a scratchy wool blanket. And last he checked his heater was broken. What was going on?
There was a small chuckle to the left of him that surely did not help his confusion and trepidation. It did help to raise his heart rate though. Slowly Roman opened his eyes to see a dark bedroom. He could see a flicker of light to the right of the bed he was still lying in. It seemed like a lit fireplace, which was adding heat and light to the room.
After blinking around trying to garner his surroundings, Roman realized all he was really looking at was the dark ceiling. He tried to push to sit up in the bed to see around more. But this proved to be much harder than he was originally anticipating. He still felt very weak. What happened?
“I wouldn't suggest that darling, you are still recovering from being frozen solid.” A voice from his left stated, causing Roman to startle back against the bed. He had completely forgotten there was someone else in the room. His breathing and heart started to speed up significantly more, freezing in place. The voice chuckled again.
To say Roman was scared would be a bit of an understatement. He didn't know where he was, how he got here and who was talking to him. Though at the moment he was sure he couldn't speak back anyway.
Finally the owner of the voice from the left came into view. They walked over to peer over Roman on the bed. Roman heart was beating out of his chest as looked back at the person above him. He stayed frozen. He was pretty sure he didn't know who this person was. Which definitely made this situation worse since he was in a house he didn't know, with a person he didn't know.
In the dark room it was quite hard to make out any definite features of them. They looked to be shorter than Roman, and a little leaner too. Which Roman distantly heard a voice that sounded like his mother say that wasn't hard to pull off with his slightly thicker size. This person also had darker hair and a slim face.
They gazed at Roman and searched his face, which Roman was sure just showed his fear. The stranger seemed to have some pity on him as they backed up and finally spoke.
“Well aren't you a pretty little thing? Showed up right at my doorstep.” They said with a smirk.
Roman felt his face grow a bit warmer. This person was just making Roman more and more confused as time went on. He opened his mouth to respond to find he couldn't speak a word. The words got caught in his throat and he couldn’t make a sound. This wasn't the first time this had happened, nor the most inconvenience. But it was still quite embarrassing. Roman tried to speak again but only ended up looking like a fish out of water.
This happened when Roman was too anxious. So much so to where he just shuts down. It happened quite a bit as a child, especially after getting yelled at for a while. Or after he would freak out too much. Remus and him had even learned a bit of sign language to help him during these times. Sadly this still happens actually quite often to the poor stage hand. He was surprised he lasted as long as he did at the party.
The party! That's right he was at a party! Then he...left? Maybe? Why did he leave? And that still doesn't answer where he is… How did he get here then?
Seeming to realize that Roman was a bit lost in thought, they spoke up again, breaking Roman out of his own dissociation.
“Cat got your tongue? That's alright I can get you something to write with. One moment please.” And with that the stranger walked out of the room.
Roman took this time to try and calm his racing heart.
‘Its okay. It's okay! This is fine Roman...just breathe...They would have hurt you by now if they wanted to…’ Roman thought to himself over and over. ‘Do that thing Remus taught you. Look for five things...was it five things or six? I don't know! I’m fucked! I’m going to die and no one will know where I am and..and...and…’ Romans breathing got worse as he tried and failed to calm himself down.
Tears were starting to gather in his eyes as he started to hyperventilate. He realized that he was having a panic attack but he was too far gone to help himself.
‘You really deserve this dumbass. You're the one who got lost or something!’ Roman kept thinking to himself as he continued to breathe too much. Tears were streaming down his face, and he couldn't even move his arms enough to wipe them away.
Just as his vision was going a bit dark around the edges the door opened back up again. Distantly Roman realized that a person was in the room which really didn't help his panicky state. There were only two people in the world that wouldn't make him worse when he was in this state. He tried to back up in the bed but he was too weak to even move more than an inch.
“Hey hey hey it's alright. I’m not going to hurt you. Calm down.” The stranger said as they slowly walked to the side or Romans bed. “I’m going to help you okay. Listen to my voice. Breathe in for me. Breathe in for four seconds. Come on it's okay try again. There ya go, hold for seven second. Now release for eight. There you go, let's do it again.” They kept speaking in a soft murmur guiding Roman though the exercise.
Once Roman seemed to be breathing a bit better, the stranger spoke up again.
“I’m sorry for scaring you, we are not used to having visitors around here. Here is the pen and paper, let me help you sit up a bit.” They said softly.
Roman was still freaking out a bit, so he was having trouble putting a full sentence together. He nodded his head anyway so he would finally be able to sit up and look around. Once he was finally sat up the stranger placed the pen and notebook in his lap, looking pointedly at Roman.
“I think you are just as confused as I am. So how about we go back and forth asking questions okay?” They asked. Roman nodded, signally for the stranger to start. “Okay, who are you?” They asked.
My name is Roman Prince.
   Where am I?
“Hello Roman. You are currently in the guest room of my house. The house itself is in the... forest. How did you get here Roman?”
As they spoke they seemed a bit reluctant to give out the information. This did not help Romans nerves about the whole situation. He felt this person was being very nice, and for what reason? He wasn't used to free kindness.
I
Roman paused his shaky writing, not knowing how to answer the question he was asked. How did he get here?
I don’t know… I was at a family reunion in the countryside. Then I left because...I don't remember...and then my car broke down and now I’m here. Which i'm sorry about. I didn't mean to interrupt or impose I can go if you want me too.
Roman showed the journal to the stranger, who looked at it confused.
“You do know there is about 3 feet of snow outside right now right? Even if I wanted you out, I couldn't let you in good conscious. You'd freeze to death. Well...again.” They said.
Wait.
I froze to death?
Roman wrote, significantly more pale than before.
“Ah ah that's two questions in a row, but I’ll answer. You did not literally freeze to death sweetie. You are very much alive. During the storm you showed up on my doorstep confusing it for death's door. My...son was a bit too friendly with you and you passed out right as I came to the door. Sorry if he scared you. He's not used to people coming to the door. But after you fainted I took you inside. You were hypothermic and soaked to the bone, so I decided to warm you up. Lucky I did because as soon as I took you in, the snow started back up again. You're lucky I’m nice, not everyone in these woods would have done the same.” They warned. “Now it's my turn. How old are you darling?
Man what was with all these pet names? Roman was starting to breathe funny again and this time he wasn't quite sure why.
I’m 25. Why?
“Really? You don't look a day over 20.” They smirked at Roman as his face started to heat up again. “My my you are quite easy to fluster.”
A bit flustered Roman started to write back quicker than before.
My family would disagree about my looks, but thank you I guess. But you didn't answer my question. Why ask about my age?
“I just wanted to make sure your parents were looking for their lost child.” They smirked.
Roman gave a small smile back at that.
Even if I was that young, I can guarantee she wouldn't come looking for me.
The stranger was giving Roman an odd look while reading what he'd written. It made Roman realize that they were on the topic of himself for too long. He wanted to change the subject to literally anything else. Most people didn't like when he talked about himself and his family. He always over shared and drove everyone off.
Sorry. I think I got off track talking about myself. Sorry, I tend to talk too much. Where is your son?
The stranger gave him a slightly concerned look, clearly noticing the change of subject, but gracefully let it slide as they answered the question.
“It's okay hon, I did ask about you after all. Anyway, which one son do you have in mind? I've got two. But I’ll assume you mean the one you met. Patton should be sleeping right now. It is the middle of the night.”
At that Roman blanched. How long had he been here? Ruining this poor person's night and probably next day. Even their poor kid was involved in his mess.
I’m so sorry. You should be asleep too not worrying about me. I’m so sorry.
Roman fanatically wrote to the kind stranger. They seemed a bit confused by his sudden change in pace.
“No no, it's fine. I don't sleep much anyway... “
Still I’m sorry that I’m here. I was just so lost I didn't have a phone and couldn't stay in my car so I decided to go into the woods after seeing the light of your house.
“It seems you've picked up a bit of your memory. Barring the fact there no way you should have been able to see my house from the road, if I didn't want to help you I wouldn't have. It's okay for you to be here. Okay?”
It's not okay though. I shouldn't be here imposing here taking up your space. I’ll leave as soon as you want me too.
The stranger seemed to be taken a bit back. They paused and looked passed Roman, lost in thought. After Roman started thinking that maybe he should just stop talking forever and leave through the window, they finally spoke up again.
“What if I want you to stay here?” They asked, still not looking completely at Roman.
Roman froze, very confused by the question. Stuntingly he wrote a very elegant response.
I- what?
“Hon, I don't want you to leave yet. You can't even walk yet. It's okay for you to take up space. Besides it might be nice to talk to someone who isn't less than 8 years old. Will you at least stay till morning?”
Roman looked into the strangers face as he finished speaking, his eyes starting to sing a bit. Nobody had ever wanted him around before. This random stranger was getting weirder by the minute. After a moment Roman wrote back.
As long as I’m welcome I’ll stay if you want... Who are you?
“Oh where are my manners! My name is Janus, it's a pleasure to meet you Roman.” Janus smiled at Roman in the dim light, the little light there was reflecting on their sharp canines. Romans eyes widened a bit, then he squinted to try and see better in the dark room. It didn't help.
“Why don't you try and get more sleep Roman. I’ll bring you something to eat in the morning to gain your strength back. If you need me, call me. I’ll hear you.” They started to walk to the door when they paused. “And Roman, I trust that you keep to your room. This house is quite old, don't want you getting hurt anymore then you already are. Goodnight!” Then they finally walked out of the room.
‘What did I just get myself into? I must be tired...I think I’m starting to see things that aren't there...’ Roman thought as he shimmied back into sheets.
Roman closed his eyes, not realizing how tired he was until he was laying down again. He was asleep again within minutes of Janus’ departure, slipping away into pleasant, warm dreams.
~~~
Janus closed the door behind himself as he walked out of the room. He let the friendly smile he was carrying before slip off his face, replacing it with a small scowl. He pressed his back against the door and listened until he was sure Roman had fallen back asleep.
Maybe he got himself into more than he should have. But he couldn't just let this guy walk away after being able to walk into the woods. Plus he looked to be dead on his feet.
Janus let out a sigh and spoke a small incantation under his breath. The guest door glowed a soft yellow around the edges, signifying that the spell had worked. The door was now not locked, but would let Janus know if anyone opened the door.
With that Janus walked down the hall leaving the man to his sleep. He's gonna have a lot of work and paperwork to fill out with this one.

how did the bois (bar virgil) come out to their families about the gay/poly thing?? or were they all just like "hey respective parent these are my three boyfriends, okay bye!"?? what were the general reactions of afformentioned relatives?? (i hope im not bothering you, i have weird hyperfixations and must know e v e r y t h i n g before i shall rest -ro)
so theyre kind of in an odd situation where
Roman (mostly homeschooled by Mamaw who already had her crash course in queer kids with Abby and Larry, and post-that mainly hangs out with Pat and Logan)
Patton (Very little interaction with people besides his parents and Roman and Logan)
and then Logan (more interaction than Patton but still not a lot, and who’s father is openly bisexual)
might not exactly... realize coming out is a. thing.
oh theyre certainly aware of the stigma, especially by high school, but by then theyve also already internalized that some folks are just not straight, and they they are definitely part of those folks. hiding it did not occur to them as a concept
a note: i know this maybe sounds far fetched, especially if you didnt grow up in that kind of environment, but my cousin was mostly homeschooled until high school, and this was her exact experience - she never came out. She just showed up to the house one day with a girlfriend. It literally never dawned on her it was something most people figured she’d make an announcement about.

CAFFEINE
Pairing/s: Pre-romantic/Romantic Intrulogical, background romantic Prinxiety, background pre-romantic Moceit (just mentions though)
Word Count: 5,166
Warning/s: misunderstandings, some cussing. (Let me know if you want me to edit this I’ve never written for tumblr before!) kinda ooc! Remus but he’s emotional and it’s mostly a Logan centric fic.
A/N: So this is the first time I’m posting on tumblr, if you want to read it on AO3 here is the link ——> https://archiveofourown.org/works/26729227 but be warned! The story is formatted for a computer moreso than a phone so there are very long paragraphs I’m sorry!! I’m fixing the formatting for the post though (ITS SUPER LONG IM SORRY 🥺🥺🥺👉🏼👈🏼) this is a songfic btw! Song is called Caffeine by Fly By Midnight and I love it it reminded me of intrulogical immediately for some reason and I was forced to write this basically.
Logan was at his desk, laptop open but he wasn’t focused on it. He had come to a startling and scary realization the day before when he had been sitting in the kitchen watching as Roman and Remus bickered over ideas for Thomas to use. He had watched as Remus poured unholy amounts of what looked like raspberry flavored syrup (at least he thinks it was syrup it had the consistency of syrup and the color of raspberries..) onto his bacon and eggs. He had happened to glance over at Remus and Remus had looked at him, smiled a quick flash before pulling him into the debate of ideas. When he had finished Remus’s smile was blinding and he had felt something stir in his chest.
He had ignored it at the time but later that night it had happened again, again caused by Remus. His heart fluttered when Remus smiled at him a quick bright thing like the flash of a camera before turning back to whomever he was talking to. He quickly excused himself and all but ran to his room. Logan prided himself on not having feelings, at least that’s what he told everyone else. Logan did have feelings, he just didn’t like them. But he had never had these feelings before. He had felt them of course, whenever Thomas had a crush or was in a relationship so he knew what they were but he personally had never had them before. Before Janus and Remus were accepted he hadn’t thought that he ever would have these feelings. Virgil and Roman had gotten together fairly quickly and Patton was more of a brother to him, and he had never seen him in a romantic sense. He just thought he didn’t have enough emotion to have romantic feelings, but what he felt just now had ruined all of that and now he had a problem.
Logan didn’t want romantic feelings. Hell, he didn’t want feelings at all, and he tried his best to repress them. But these unwanted things that affected Logan more than he liked to admit were persistent. He didn’t know how to deal with them. He thought back, trying to pinpoint the exact moment these feelings started and could only think of the amount of time hes been spending with the embodiment of intrusive thoughts. He had never had a problem with Remus, and sometimes sought him out for conversations, but once he was accepted he had started talking to him more, spending more and more time with him and his feelings had apparently grown from there. Maybe if he didn’t spend as much time with Remus as he did the feelings would go away? It was a stretch but it was all he could think of. So with a plan in mind he shut down his computer and went to bed.
Off in the imagination, Remus smiled to himself as he created stars and galaxies. He knew he had a crush on the resident nerd and he was really hoping that Logan liked him back, but he would wait for now and just enjoy his company as friends. He had always liked the nerd, when he had been a “Dark” side Logan was the only “Light” side who had tolerated him. Roman had come around, wanting to mend their broken bond but even he could get fed up with Remus’s constant chatter and rapid thought process. Logan never did, he always kept pace with Remus, always had. And he never shied away when topics took a darker turn. He rolled with the waves and explained, expanded upon, or dismembered the thoughts Remus couldn’t control and couldn’t filter and was never disgusted by them.
He listened to Remus in a way none of the others ever had. Even Janus had to stop him sometimes, the thoughts Remus spewed disturbing the deceitful side. But now that he was accepted, he had been spending more and more time with Logan and he was loving every minute of it! He pulled him into debates or just talked to him for hours and never got bored listening to him ramble about whatever was on his mind. He was cute the way he lit up whenever Remus asked him to explain or elaborate on whatever topic he was talking about. Remus flung the last of the stars into the sky and sunk into his room ready for a good rest. He had a million things he wanted to ask Logan about space, one of his special interests he found out last week and he also wanted to show him what he made tonight. Sleep took him quickly, a smile on his face.
The next morning Remus eagerly waited for Logan to come to breakfast, he wanted to show him a new recipe he had found and wanted to get Logan’s input on the best way to get Thomathy to make it for the Halloween party he was planning. But as the hour dragged by and Logan still hadn’t come down for breakfast, which was weird and slightly alarming as he almost never changed his schedule, Remus got worried. He decided to check on Logan and see if he was sick or something and quickly made his way upstairs to Logan’s room. He knocked on the door, if a bit too fast and waited as patiently as he could until he heard Logan call a quiet “Come in.”
He swung the door open, unintentionally slamming it against the wall and cringing slightly before bounding into the room. He looked around, he had been in Logan’s room before, he had been in everyone’s room before when he wasn’t accepted. He was always trying to spook everyone and catch them off guard, but Logan usually ignored him. With his acceptance his intrusive thoughts had calmed some, and he wasn’t as well, intrusive, as he used to be. He was still loud, he was still as hyperactive as ever and he still lacked a filter most days. But he was getting better, and he was trying to be better for Thomas. He stood in the middle of Logan’s room, closing the door with a snap of his fingers as he watched his crush type away on his laptop. He frowned when Logan didn’t turn to greet him but he shrugged and walked over to the Logical side’s desk.
“Watcha workin’ on Logie Bear?” He asked leaning over Logan and plopping his head onto his shoulder. He felt Logan freeze up, though he didn’t stop typing, which was weird. He hadn’t done that since they were teens, so he immediately pulled his head away and took a step back. Maybe he’s just stressed? He waiting as he watched Logan turn around and fix his glasses, a tick he had noticed he did whenever he was thinking. “Hello Remus.” He said it with none of the warmth that Remus had become accustomed to in the recent months and he was taken aback by it, but before he could even begin processing that he was interrupted.
“To answer your question, I am working on fixing Thomas’s schedule for next week. Since yourself and Roman have been pulling him into the Imagination more often he has been neglecting his real-world duties like laundry, washing the dishes, and a multitude of other things. Hopefully, you can convince Roman to keep a clear schedule next week. I am asking you to as well, though I know it will be hard “When Creativity strikes” as the saying goes but please try and withhold in for at least this next week. I have the weekend open for him if you and your brother do have any urges.” Remus stood there, his mouth slightly agape as Logan finally looked him in the eyes.
Remus blinked a few times before nodding voice subdued as he responded “Sure Lo, I’ll- I’ll try. And I’ll tell Roman too give him a heads up!” He smiled though it felt forced and quickly left the room. When Logan had looked at him, it was as if they hadn’t been spending these last few months together, He was closed up again, the strict no-nonsense mask he wore around everyone but him was... back up. What had happened?
Remus felt a tightness in his chest, but he took a few deep breaths and decided that Logan was just having a bad day. He and Roman have been hogging a majority of Thomas’s time this past week. Because they were allowed to work together again, they had been on fire giving Thomas amazing ideas and flying through the imagination fighting Gloria (the Dragonwitch) and her hordes of armies and other adventures. He shrugged off his bad thoughts and quickly went to find RoRo to tell him about Logan’s plan for the next week.
Logan sighed as Remus left the room. He rubbed his eyes and slumped in his seat as he tried to ignore the warmth of where Remus’s head had laid on his shoulder.
How had he not noticed that he liked Remus in a romantic way? How had he let himself get so comfortable that he had let his feelings creep in and take hold of his heart? He sighed and turned back to his desk glancing at the picture he had there. It was about a week after Janus and Remus had been accepted that Thomas insisted they took this photo, all of the sides plus Thomas in the middle. Virgil was sitting on Roman’s lap; Patton was leaning into two pairs of Janus’s arms and Remus had his arm thrown around Logan’s shoulders head thrown back as the others looked at him with varying degrees of disgust and embarrassment. Logan chuckled as he remembered the filthy joke Remus had told to get that reaction, and then he sighed as his eyes lingered on Remus’s form. He felt the ghost warmth of that arm thrown over his shoulder and squeezed his eyes shut.
This was for the best. He was Logic, he didn’t have feelings, or at least he shouldn’t. And besides even if he admitted to liking him, Remus would never reciprocate his feelings. So he rubbed his eyes, fixed his tied and went back to work. He had noticed that Remus had seemed off this morning, but he brushed it off and tried to focus on his work.
It had been three weeks, and everyone knew something was up with Logan and Remus. Logan had been acting a little too normal almost cold in his dealings with the others and Remus had been holed up in his room most of the time, and when he wasn’t in his room he kept to the imagination and only talked to Roman. Every time he was within viewing distance of Logan, he shot him wounded looks before leaving the room. The four sides decided to get to the bottom of this and set a meeting time aside for later that night after subtly observing the other two.
After dinner that night Janus, Patton, Roman, and Virgil met up in Janus’s room to discuss their observations of the day. Roman sighed before starting. “Remus has been acting odd these last few weeks as everyone knows. I tried to talk to him about why he seemed so down but all he did was yell ‘Fuck off bro’ before hitting me over the head with his morning star and running off into the woods.” He rubbed his head, presumably where Remus had hit him but there was no longer any wounds or lesions on his head that showed the damage. Virgil pulled him into a sideways hug and kissed his cheek. Janus glanced at Patton. Patton sighed and started fiddling with his hoodie sleeves.
“Logan looked was pretty out of it. He had about 10 empty coffee cups on his desk and he was all disheveled and when I asked how he was doing he said ‘fine.’ But I don’t think he's doing fine guys.” He said as he looked around the room. Janus nodded as Patton’s gaze landed on him. “I heard his lie about being fine, but I couldn’t pinpoint why exactly he wasn’t fine.” Virgil sighed as he leaned into Roman’s side. “I could feel both Logan and Remus’s anxiety spike when you asked them but it was more of a general anxiety nothing I could pinpoint.” They all looked at each other helplessly until Roman stood up. “I’m going to see my brother and figure this out I don’t care if I have to tie him to a chair!” He stormed off before the others could even think to stop him and they all hoped he could get through to Remus.
Remus was laying sprawled out like a starfish on his bed, humming a song he had heard as Thomas was scrolling through Instagram. His intrusive thoughts had been getting bad again without Logan there to counteract and break them down for him and he was starting to lose his head again. He could feel himself losing his already loose grip on reality every day that passed and he didn’t want anybody to think he was going back to how he was before he was accepted so he tried to stay in his room as much as possible and smash out the intrusive thoughts he had in the Imagination whenever he could. His head was swirling right now as Roman had interrupted him before he had a chance to create and then promptly destroy the thoughts so he was now laying in his room everything smashed to bits and chest hurting as he thought of why Logan would’ve cut him off. He was trying to be good!
He was trying his damn hardest but Logan had been helping him so much so the sudden cut had him dizzy for more than one reason. The only thing he could think that happened was that Logan had found out about his crush and decided to stop interacting with him. The painful thought as well as the others clouding his mind brought him to tears and he didn’t even notice Roman barge into the room until he was being hugged by him. He let himself cry as he was pulled into a warm embrace and his thoughts finally started to calm down. “Oh Rem, tell me what’s wrong?” He heard his brother whisper and he struggled his way through stuttering sobs as he told Roman that he had had a crush on Logan and he must have found out about it because Logan had started pushing him away three weeks ago and his thoughts were getting worse without him because his logic dismantled them and and-
Remus was cut off as Roman squeezed him again and told him he would handle it. Remus nodded and laid back down on his bed as his room playing the damn song he had stuck in his head and only making him cry harder.
“Vacant head in this empty bed yeah I think I’m losing it, I’m pretty sure I’m losing it. It’s messed up nice that you’re my vice and I keep on using it, it’s probably why I’m losing it. Thinking in circles when we’re not together and fighting it won’t make it better…”
Remus cried into his pillow as the song continued and eventually played on a loop, and Roman got ready for a fight.
Roman barged into Logan’s room slamming the door open and sword pointed at the Logical side who was more than shocked to say the least. Not that he showed it. “Roman, what can I help you with?” he asked as he turned to face the creative side. He had been holed up in his room for the better part of the last three weeks only going out for necessity but those time he had seen Remus had his heart racing with unwanted and useless feelings. “Remus is distraught and is declining in health mentally because of whatever you did Microsoft Turd, so I suggest you apologize and at least have the courtesy to keep a professional relationship with him!” He said vehemently and Logan was, well more than confused. “Roman, please elaborate I have no idea what you are talking about and I haven’t even seen Remus for more than a few seconds these past few weeks so I couldn’t have done anything to him.”
Roman paused and seemed to think about something before abruptly sheathing his sword and pulling Patton into the room. Logan looked on as Roman whispered something into Patton’s ear, who then looked over at Logan for a brief second eyes wide before he closed them and seemed to concentrate. His eyes flew open and he nodded to roman who sighed and rubbed his face roughly. “Thank you Padre, I’ll handle it from here.” Was all Logan heard before he was once again alone with the Creative side. Roman took a deep breath before looking at Logan, disheveled and downright messy, eyes bloodshot and hair a mess. He walked closer to Logan who warily accepted this quiet scrutiny. “You’re in love with Remus.”
It was a statement not a question, but Logan tried to deny it anyway. “While I love Remus in a platonic sense, I am not in fact in love with him as you say. I cannot fall in love, I am Logic.” The words burned his throat as he stared down Roman who plopped onto his bed similarly to the way Remus used to do. “Specs, if you forgot, which I am sure you did with the amount of caffeine running through your body at the moment, I am not just creativity. I could sense something was off between you and Rem, but I couldn’t place it until I asked Patton a question. A simple question. Do you know what that question is?”
Roman studied Logan as he thought through what he could have possibly asked Patton, nothing he could think of and yet he had started to panic slightly. He shook his head and looked to Roman who sighed. “You really are out of it aren’t you Lo? I asked Patton if he could sense love coming from you, and when he confirmed that he could it clicked. You’re in love with Remus. You have romantic feelings for him.” Logan stared at Roman with panic in his eyes. He was found out. “Please do not tell Remus.” He finally whispered hands running through his already messy hair. He couldn’t look Roman in the eyes.
“Logan look at me please.” He heard a soft voice request and he looked up at Roman who had moved closer. He put a hand on Logan’s shoulder and squeezed it slightly. “Why are you trying to deny your feelings? Just because you’re logic doesn’t mean you cant have feelings or fall in love with anyone. You aren’t just Logic, you’re also Logan. The nerd who geeks out over space and loves crofters and so many other things. You can have these feelings.”
Logan was trying his best not to tear up but there were unshed tears in his eyes as he listened to what Roman was saying. “But how can I be logic if I have feelings? Feelings are illogical and messy and- and-“ Roman squeezed his shoulder again and Logan looked up into his eyes. “Feelings are a part of being Human teach. You may embody logic, but you are a part of a human and that means that you also can have these feelings. If you didn’t have these feelings that would make you a robot and you are not a robot, no matter how hard you try to be one.”
Logan closed his eyes fighting the tears that wanted to escape. “Even if I do have feelings for Remus, he doesn’t return them. How am I supposed to face him?” he asked, his voice cracking. Roman sighed. “Logan, I know for a fact that Remus likes you back. I didn’t need Patton to tell me, he told me himself. It’s why I came here in the first place. I was gonna fight you for hurting my brother but by the way you looked I had a feeling you were hurting as much as he was. You need to go talk to him Lo. He’s been doing so good with you but when you cut him off everything started spiraling for him. He thinks you hate him for having feelings for you.”
Logan looked at Roman in disbelief, that couldn’t be right but then, thinking back on the few seconds he had seen Remus these past weeks he had seemed to be sad. Oh no. “I messed up didn’t I?” Roman chuckled and stepped away from his friend, “You should go talk to him Lo. I think it’ll work out in the end.” Logan nodded and wiped the tears from his eyes before straightening his tie. “Thank you Roman.” He said before sinking out. Roman chuckled and left the room to go tell the others that everything was gonna be fine.
Logan rose outside of Remus’s door, about to knock when he heard crying. He quickly sunk into the Creative side’s room only to be met by a song being played loudly, permeating the room and intruding his thoughts.
“Bloodshot eyes, no I can’t focus since I let you in. Ever since I let you in. Every high, like a crashing ocean its been sinking in, ever since I let you in” The lyrics pulled at a chord in his chest as he listened to more of the words. “Thinking in circles when we’re not together, If I let you go I’ll be better. I don’t know what I’m chasing, I’m smoking, I’m pacing hours go by like forever, now I’m like-“ He walked further into the room looking for Remus and finally spotted him on top of a broken bed face in the blankets and shoulders shaking. The song continued. “I want you, it’s way too late, I’m restless, I’m wide awake. Every time I lay down I can’t sleep, you’re keeping me up like caffeine.”
Logan walked closer to Remus and gently touched his shoulder. Remus startled and sat up makeup smudged and eyes red and puffy as he looked into Logan’s eyes. “Remus, please stop the music. We need to talk.” Remus scrunched up his face but the music only got louder. “Ah,” Logan muttered before waving his hand and stopping the music. “I’m sorry the song was s-stuck in my head and I c-couldn’t get it out a-and the harder I tried the louder it got.” He said, stuttering through hiccups his voice raw. Logan tentatively sat down next to Remus on the bed and watched as Remus scoot over but didn’t look at him.
“Anyways, what did you need Logie Bear?” he asked trying to sound like his normal self but Logan could hear the pain under his weak façade. Logan reached out for Remus’s hand, slow enough that he could pull away if he wanted to, Logan was happy he didn’t. “I wanted to apologize for how I’ve been acting these past few weeks. I… well I had come to some startling conclusions and decided to try and ignore them but all I did was end up hurting the both of us.” Remus finally looked towards Logan and the hope and pain in his eyes made Logan ache he hadn’t meant to cause Remus any pain, hadn’t known he had the power to but this look flayed him and he knew that he had.
He took a deep breath before continuing. “I had come to the conclusion that I had romantic feelings toward you, but in my hasty decision that I shouldn’t have these feelings I hadn’t taken into consideration the thought that you might feel them as well. I was trying to avoid you so I could stop my feelings from growing, not because I knew you had feelings I did not reciprocate. And I am so sorry for hurting you Remus.”
Remus had fresh tears streaming down his face and he launched himself at Logan. “I thought all those thoughts were about how you couldn’t like me not that you thought you couldn’t like anyone in general!” he exclaimed as he hung onto Logan’s neck head pressed into his neck. Logan was confused for a moment before he remembered that Remus embodied intrusive thoughts as well as creativity. He knew everyone’s intrusive thoughts and fears, and he was able to take them away from the others so the thoughts didn’t affect them, but that meant he was stuck with them looping in his mind until either Logan helped him dismantle them or he killed them enough times. Glancing around the room he realized he hadn’t been able to kill the thoughts yet.
 Logan hugged Remus a little tighter rubbing soothing circles on his back as he let Remus cry, whispering soothing words into his ear. Eventually Remus calmed down and sat back to look at Logan. He sniffed before asking, “So, you have feelings for me Lolo?” He smiled a watery smile but the question was genuine. “Yes.” Logan replied nodding his head in affirmation. Remus squealed and did a whole body wiggle “I like you too Logan.” He said excitement growing with every word. They would have to talk more but both were exhausted so Logan took Remus’s hand and brought him to his room, changing their clothes with a snap and ushered Remus into bed with him. Remus sighed contently as he cuddled with the logical side. “Thank you.” He whispered and Logan smiled and pulled Remus closer.
“You have nothing to be thankful for Remus. Thank you, for putting up with me being irrational.” Remus chuckled softly and tilted his head far enough back to softly kiss Logan’s chin. “Not very logical of you Lo,” he giggled quietly and Logan couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped him as well. “No, it wasn’t. Now sleep cephy, we can talk more in the morning.” He felt Remus freeze for a second before he wiggled happily “I like that name, Cephy. It fits.” Remus manifested his tentacles and took off Logan’s glasses placing them on the bedside table and turning off the lamp before retracting them. Logan was shocked, but exhaustion was taking over. “Remind me to ask you about those when we wake up.” He whispered and felt a nod as he drifted off.
Six months later

Logan sat at his desk his laptop open in front of him, but he was just staring at its black screen. He was tired but he had to finish this schedule for Thomas or else he wouldn’t be prepared for the next week of editing and filming. Logan rubbed his bloodshot eyes glasses discarded on the desktop next to the sleeping computer. He startled when he felt arms hug him from behind before he remembered that Remus was in his room with him. “Come to bed Lolo you can do this in the morning.” He whispered, the start of a whine in his voice. Logan leaned his head against Remus’s arm for a few moments before sitting up and sighing.
“Remus, I can’t I have to finish this tonight or else Thomas is going to be set back for days when he needs to be editing and re-filming. I’ll come to bed as soon as I am finished, I promise.” He looked to his boyfriend who had sat on the edge of the bed waiting for whatever it was Logan was going to say, He ran his fingers through his hair and nodded flopping backwards like a starfish. Logan looked at him for a few seconds, a small smile on his face before he yawned. He needed coffee. He stood up and after giving Remus’s leg a squeeze he left his room and went downstairs.
Dating Remus was like nothing he had ever imagined, and yet it was everything he wanted, He smiled again as he thought of his boyfriend. He was a handful sometimes, but he loved him with everything he was. Sometimes, before he and Remus got together he had felt like he was in a vast ocean, untouchable and unfeeling but then he let Remus into his life and suddenly he felt as though he had surfaced the ocean, gasping for breath he hadn’t known he needed. He hadn’t always liked the feeling.
When he had first realized he had feelings for the Duke he had thrown himself into his work ignoring his feelings and avoiding the attractive creative side which was hard considering he had finally been accepted and now resided alongside the rest of them the “dark commons” merged with the light and now they lived with nice shades of grey instead of blinding white or encompassing black. He spent way too long and many, many caffeine fueled nights working on anything and everything that had crossed his desk. But no matter what he did or didn’t do he couldn’t get Remus out of his head. Thoughts circled back to their scant interactions and his heart rate increased every time he seen the creative side but he refused to act on his feelings. He was Logic and logic didn’t have things like feelings (except when he did).
It all came to a head when Roman had barged into his room one day demanding he apologize for whatever he had done to his brother. Logan hadn’t realized that Remus had returned his hidden feelings, or that it was affecting his creativity as well as Thomas. It had taken a while for Roman to convince Logan that Remus cared about him too, Logan had been repressing his feelings for a while not to mention his feelings for Remus, but eventually he was able to confront Remus and admit his feelings. He had never been so scared or so happy than the day they got together. He walked into his room, mug of coffee held tightly and glanced lovingly at his boyfriend. He looked at the time 3:35, before looking back at the bed.
Remus looked so prone and exposed when he slept. He sighed and set his coffee onto the desk next to his laptop before shutting it down. He snapped his fingers and was in his pajamas which consisted of a worn Nasa shirt and some dark grey sweats. He took off his glasses and lay next to Remus who immediately turned around and snugged up to him, head under his chin and hands gripping his shirt. He chuckled softly. “You win my little octopus. I hope you’re happy.” Remus sighed into his chest and smiled before leaning up to kiss Logan's chin. “I am.” He responded softly snuggling closer. Logan kissed the top of his head and squeezed Remus. “I’m glad I let you in.” he whispered softly as he finally drifted off to sleep.

“Roman, let’s go” His father calls, Roman nods at his fencing partner, stepping away from his place. He thanks him with a nod before following his father out of the arena with a sweat towel, through the bejeweled halls. “Stop dragging your feet” He reprimands, Roman does exactly that.
“Apologies” Roman clears his throat, knowing he shouldn't mumble. Less he receives a punishing yell. “Where are we going?”
“Father, where are we going father” He corrects, Roman nods taking a mental note. “We are going to meet with some neighboring powers, it seems prince Patton has set course again” His father explains, Roman resists the urge to smile at the first news of Patton he had heard in days. “They wish to discuss with us about lending resources in exchange for something of value, I hope you learn something” They turn the corner, photos, perfectly set line the walls.
“Thank you for the opportunity father” Although he does wish he could spend his afternoon fencing and practice alongside his brother, no one had seen Remus for weeks and no one seemed to care.  Except for Patton, who promised he would find him, and now here Roman was about to destroy that. He stuffs his sword into his holster as they arrive in the grand room. Roman will always marvel as the ceilings disappear from view, too high to squint out.
“Sit” His father commands, Roman does, his back sinking comfortably into regal chairs. He fights every instinct to fidget as more people gather, talking in hushed voices to one another, simply nodding towards Roman. A hint of acknowledgment. He listens, however, the voices molded into snippets of conversation until finally, someone talks a little too close to the prince.
“I heard they caught him finally, threw the boy into the back of the carriage they did” Roman perks up, swirling his drink carefully as the snivelly voice continues. “He was with that other prince too, Prince Logan, his father was less than pleased” Logan! Roman fights an eager grin, taking a quick sip. “God only knows what they're going to do to that boy now” Roman's heart sinks below his knees, the sweat upon his forehead growing stronger. “I'm sure the King has his punishment ready”
Bingo
Roman's mind runs wild, only his assumptions in mind. Patton and Logan? Caught? What trials were they going to face now, at the dawn of the world they were on the brink. What was going to be their fight, consequence for trying to do what's right? Was it all Romans fault, no...no, no...it'll be fine. Everything will be fine.
~~~
“This is not fine!” Patton cries, shaking violently in the guards hold. “You can't just lock me away!” He argues, angry tears fall from his cheeks, staining the floor.
“I can do as I please Patton, I'm the King” The deep voice could silence a chamber of councils with his bellows. “Throw him in” He directs, the men do so allowing Patton to scuff his knees, tangling himself in his cloak.
“Please! You cant do this” He shouts, shaking at the bars that lock him into the freezing room. The King snickers before bowing out, the lights dimming as it falls silent. Patton groans, small sparks fly from his hand bouncing off the walls. He catches them playing around with the light. After a brief moment, he sprinkles them around, a calming sense falls over him.
He moves to the window, the glaring sun shining in providing the only hope of escape through the bars. Knowing this tower was made to prevent or weaken magic, Patton wasn't too hopeful. He yearns from the opening, watching the kingdom go on without him, the magic of life swirl about. He looks just across the borders, watching a sliver of another castle behind the clouds, praying maybe a little, that Logan is safe.
Once his dream ends he retreats to the slab they dare call a bed, removing his boots massaging the sores of his adventures. He undoes his cloak, hanging it on a single hook, laying down as his eyes examine the plain ceiling. Maybe something manifest, what does he have to lose?
Yeah, that last about five minutes. Patton, much to antsy, jumps towards the window once more. His fingers tracing every inch of the metal, using what small iota is left of his powers to bend them just slightly. He’s small, he can squeeze through...surely.
~~~
“Surely you've lost your mind, Logan!” His father yells, Logan scratches his ear, clearing out the sound of annoyance.
“Surely I haven't father, now may I be excused?” he requests politely, following his father graciously with his arms behind him.
“No!” His father barks “Because instead of being here doing your duties, you were off gallivanting with that...scoundrel” He seethes, Logan clutches to his wrist taking a deep breath.
“Prince Patton” he corrects, His father turns to him stopping them in their tracks. It was rather amusing the difference between the two. Logan was slim, he maintained himself. He was a lousy man, plump as he waddled grumpily through the castle halls. Logan found it hard not to laugh as he had to look down addressing the man who was supposedly in charge of him.
“You will not speak to me like such” he warns, Logan swallows his thoughts nodding. “Now we have a conference to prepare for, so shoo, go...do something of use” He excuses his son, meeting with his advisors. Logan smirks, bouncing on his heels as he races calmly upstairs. Shutting himself in his room, moving to the fountain that sprays beautifully in the corner.
“I know you're in there” He mutters searching his pockets, finally his fingers surround a circular item. He pulls it out, smiling as a shine comes from the gold coin. “Please work” He begs silently, flicking it into the water, watching as light dances around, his eyes dazed as the color pours out. Soon an image clears, and Logan's blush returns. “Patton!” He whispers, the figure turns, a giant grin as he approaches the screen.
“Lo!” Patton greets in return, his curled locks bouncing along with him. He adjusts his glasses, checking the room. “You used the coin” Patton identifies, sitting at the end of the bed.
“It worked” Logan mumbles in disbelief, his fingers itching for more. He shakes his head, focus, your time is limited. “Are you alright?” He questions
“Little bruised but mostly just bored!” Patton exclaims “They locked me atop ‘Fiona's Tower’” He informs, Logan nods listening, his eyes scan what he can see. “How are you, he didn't...hurt you did he? You got home safe?” Patton inquires, Logan eyes alight with soft affection. Patton watches from his end, wanting nothing more than to be there with him.
“Id barely call this a home” Logan scoffs, Patton bites his lower lip “But yes, the king's men got me home all in one piece” He gestures to himself, Patton smiles weakly. “Pat? Is everything truly alright?”
“Hmm?” Patton hums, he shakes off his doubts, a flashy smile returning “Yes of c-” He pauses, listening “Logan I must go! I'm so sorry, stay safe, promise?”
“Always and forever” Logan recites, his hands cross the water and as it dissolves so does Patton.
~~~
“Everything hurts” Virgil moans, his feet dragging the grass behind him “And I'm tired” He continues, Dolos nods sympathetically.
“‘Everything hurts and I'm tired’ title of your sex tape” Remus blurts, laughing before his eyes grow in confusion. “Whats a sex tape?”
“You don't...nevermind” Virgil groans shaking his head. He realizes quickly his posture over Dolos and straightens himself out, yawning as Emile simply floats ahead of them. Humming delighted as more comes to view. “Hey uhhhh Fairy godfather or whatever?” He calls out, they stop as Emile turns.
“Yes, dear Virgil?” He wonders, ascending as he plants his feathered feet into the newly green grass.
“Where exactly are we going?” Virgil asks, Dolos helping him making sure he stays upright. “Cause like, we've been walking for hours, and Dolos is tired” he nods sadly, Emile cocks his head, his flashy grin remains.
“To the people who I hope can help you…” he looks to the narrator “And Remus” He states first, looking to the figure. Remus stands, kicking the dirt below as he scratches his head. “He needs to return to his brother” Emile informs
“Roman” Remus breathes, a sappy sorrow over him.
“Who?’ Virgil questions
“Virgil's future love!” Remus narrates, quickly his eyes grow as he turns to Virgil “You touch my brother” he shakes his head, Virgil quickly hides behind Dolos
“I didn't do anything” He argues “I don't even know who Roman is!” he shouts, Emile hushes him as he listens to the crackle of leaves.
“You dare speak the prince's name in such a manner!” A voice comes from the shadows, the group closes in each facing a new way. “You will- Prince Remus?” The man stops, gesturing for the rest of his men to stop as well.
“Lucio!” The prince cries, racing forward
“What is going on here?” Lucio forces Remus behind him “Men, take them! They kidnapped the prince!”
Fucking come on! Virgil groans
~~~
“A suitor?! This is ridiculous” Patton scoffs, a furrowed pout upon his face. The King sits across from him, a scowled smirk. “Please! You mustn't do this!” He begs, standing now from his seat. The King does the same but looks to one of his advisors.
“We must prepare for the conference, take Patton to get ready” he commands. The man nods and soon Patton feels himself whisked away, dragged through the halls of the palace he once adored, stuffed into a room.
“Patton!” A woman cries he turns, his face lights up, a sweet grin.
“Val!” Patton breathes a sigh of relief, embracing the red-cloaked woman in a hug. “Oh! I missed you” He smiles pulling away, examining her every feature. “You look good, are you. No harm has come to you right?” He checks
“No! No of course not Pat” Valerie assures nodding “Im perfect as a peach” She grins, he embraces her once more before removing his cloak. He then allows Valerie to work around him, placing the ever so familiar royal garments on him.
“Oh” Patton sighs, spinning delighted in his new suit. His pants comfortable around him, a new slick cloak falls behind him dancing in a celestial blue. He feels royal, he feels himself. “I do miss this” He breathes, smoothing out the bedazzling outfit.
“Oh, I'm glad you like it!” Valerie appreciates, holding a hand over her heart. “You look perfect for the conference” A bell rings throughout “Oh, go show em whos the rightful heir to the throne” She nudges, Patton giggles nodding as he leaves. He braces himself joining them back in the throne room, Patton stands at the King's side grumbling only slightly. As the kingdoms file in, each with a toothy smile to the family Patton ducks out. He makes his way to the stables, finally arriving.
“Nork?” he whispers sweetly, a neigh in response as he bites his lower lip. “There you are” He wastes no time petting his beloved animal, the horse excited to see him. “Oh, I’m so sorry for what happened” He laments, brushing the dark hair. He stops listening as the hay below him rustles, he turns quickly his bow appearing in his hands and arrow ready in a spark of blue light. “Show yourself!”
“Patton” Logan emerges, his hands in surrender. One quick flick and away goes his weapon. He rushes forward wasting no time jumping into his arms. Logan lifts him, spinning his friend around before pulling away keeping their hands interlaced. “Are you alright?” He checks, his hands moving Patton's head.
“Better, now that you're here” Patton admits a quick spread blush. Logan averts his eyes. “Wait...why are you here?”
“The conference? I wasn't sure what it was for but almost every kingdom and the royal family is present '' Logan informs “I fear it means something detrimental for the land” Logan voices his concerns, fiddling with Patton's fingers as he's done since forever. “Is there an evil force at play?” he questions, Patton clicks his tongue cupping his hand on Logans cheek
“Come back to me Lo” he grounds the prince, a quick blink as his friend returns. “Surely if it was dark magic...we would sense it would we not?” Logan shrugs only hoping so. “Come, we should return before our punishments only further”
“Your majesties! You must return at once!” A knight presiding directs, tossing his way into the stables.
“What's the matter?” Logan pushes
“Prince Remus has returned” The knight utters one simple phrase and yet Logan and Patton crash.

"You're safe here, you know that right?" Adoption prompt for whoever you want :)
Roman looked around the house nervously. His new (Father? Guardian?) was kicking off his boots and pulling off his hoodie. Roman’s shoes were already off and he refused to part with his own precious red and white hoodie. There would be no way that he was going to risk losing it.
“I’ll show you up to your room,” Virgil said. There was a nervous hint to his voice like he was more nervous than Roman was. Like he didn’t exactly know what to do now that his new son was actually here. “I can give you a tour if you want or you could rest while I make some dinner. You must be pretty tired.”
“A little, I suppose,” Roman mused. He tried to keep his nerves under control and put on a brave and happy mask. “I’d like a little while to unpack if that’s okay.”
Virgil nodded silently and started leading Roman through the house and up the stairs. Roman kept an eye on the windows and all exits. He held his duffle bag close to him and tried to keep his breathing even. This was a new start. He would be fine, perfectly fine. Roman was a Prince, after all! And Princes were never afraid!
The room Virgil brought him to was a cozy one with a large bed, a walk-in closet, a writing desk, and a window complete with a window seat. It was the most brilliant room that Roman had ever seen and he had never expected that he’d be living in a room like this.
“I’ll leave you to unpack,” Virgil said softly. “Um, I got a text from my brothers asking if they could come over for dinner. You okay with that? Logan and Patton are pretty calm, mostly anyways, and I really think that you’d like Thomas and Dorian. They’re good, especially with kids.”
Roman gave Virgil an easygoing grin. “Of course, I’d love to meet them!” He placed his duffle bag on his new bed and plopped down next to it.
Virgil nodded and turned to leave. But he stopped at the door and, with a heaving sigh, leaned against it. “Hey, Roman? You’re safe here, you know that right?” He drummed his fingers against his side and shrugged. “I-I get living in a place where you’re afraid all the time and then having to move somewhere new.”
Roman narrowed his eyes at Virgil’s words. “You do?”
“Yeah. My brothers are my brothers but they’re not, you know, actually blood-related to me. So yeah, I get it. Just want to make sure you know you’re safe and that it’s cool if you don’t yet.” Virgil ran a hand through his hair. “Yeah.”
Roman watched Virgil and slowly relaxed, looking down at the carpeted floor. There were pastel pillows leaning against the bed and Roman wondered if it was Virgil who picked them out or someone else. Judging by the emo look the man was rocking, it was hard to believe that he’d pick out soft pink, blue, and red pillows with frills on them.
He didn’t say anything in response to Virgil’s speech but he found himself a lot more at ease than he was when he first arrived. He watched Virgil hesitate before walking from the door and back down the stairs. Minutes later, the smell of something hot and spicy cooking drifted up the stairs.
Roman sighed and laid back down on his bed. He looked up at the ceiling and the preteen blinked in shock when he saw little green, glow in the dark stars glued all over the ceiling. From the few books he had read about stars, Roman thought that he recognized a few constellations.
 Maybe this new home wouldn’t be so bad.

Patton telling dark side Virgil about he hates how over baring Logan can be
You. Anon you give me d a n g e r o u s ideas for this au and i love it, please give me the good angsty ideas :D
In fact....because this inspires me...heres something special(i hope its ok and you like it! Im writing it on mobile)
"Why cant he just....ugh...i wish he'd just once--"
"See things from your side?"
The fatherly figure whipped around at the new voice, eyes landing on the dark clad figure now sitting backwards in his desk chair , his arms dangling over the back loosely. Said firgure lifted his hooded head, violet eye watching the other side with a gleam. Patton stood up straighter but tried to look relaxed, giving him a strained smile.
"O-oh! Hey there virgil! Im sorry i...didnt see you there?" He rubbed the back of his neck while virgil gave him a small coy smile, propping his head up on one hand as if bored*
"Yes well...i could sense youre tension and nerves from here pops~ the big brain ruffle your feathers too hard again?" He tried, patton tried hard to tell him it was none of his business he really did. But the words wouldnt leave his tongue. He knew he should, how upset Roman and Logan would be if they knew he "gave him the sparks to start a fire" one could say but looking upon the darker side he saw sympathy in his eyes and a small smile he didnt show many others as he sat there letting him paitently gather his words. And that little act, in the heart's vulernable and upset state made a dam break.
"Its just- hes just so overbearing something! And i-i i cant stand it when he gets that way! Sometimes its like he alwaus had to be right even when i make good points, just like he wants! And i...and i...aaaauygh i know he doesnt mean it or do it on purpose but virgil its so frustrating and--"
"Disheartening? To get the impression he thinks so little of your opinion that he just assumes his is correct over yours?" Virgil finished with a tilt of his head, a honey sweet tone to his mostly dull voice. Patton was too upset to notice the anxieties virgil was carefully weaving, especially as he waves his arms errarically.
"Yes! It...it hurts sometimes..."he looked down then shook his head. "But...i shoukd just talk to him right? Straighten out our misunderstandings!" Patton beamed at virgil's nod, not noticing his little eye roll.
"Thanks for listening to me virgil!" He shouted as he ran out of his room to go find the logical side. Virgil simply stood and disappeared back to his room with a smirk*
"Oh it was no problem at all pat. Good luck with logic~"
(Tadaaa a little ficlet inspired by your ask! I hope you like it!

“Maybe you shouldn’t go to the ball tonight.”
The Thief shot the Bard another glare and turned his head to face the ceiling again. They’d been talking about the ball for about an hour. The Playwright had gone as soon as they’d explained, saying he didn’t like spending too much time in the Imagination’s action grounds, and the Artist then left to find the other Sides.
If the Thief didn’t go with them, they wouldn’t have any protection. No one was willing to fight, much less fight the Dragon, and no one else alive could go toe to toe with him.
But your wound….
Fuck off.
It stings, doesn’t it?
“You know that doesn’t matter,” he said aloud.
“It matters so much,” the Bard whispered back.
He shifted, hand resting along the Thief’s tummy. After the Artist left, the Bard opted to lay down next to the Thief, hugging him as gently as he could around the stomach as to not jostle the bandages wrapped tight around the Thief’s chest.
Sure, the Bard sung a ditty, used as much magic as the setting would allow, making sure the gash didn’t hurt and didn’t bleed and would heal quick. But he’d always had a soft spot for the Thief. They got along better than anticipated, given how fiery they were. He didn’t want the Thief feeling any sort of pain. Plus, pain wasn’t really their thing.
“How’s Logan?” the Thief asked, for the fifth time.
Seeing Logan in distress had upset him more than the actual wound. The Bard clicked his tongue, almost annoyed at the Thief’s apathy for himself.
“Wonderfully,” the Bard promised, “He’s with Patton and Deceit, and they’re taking care of him.”
“Better than we would.”
“You could say that again.”
Distantly, they heard a door opened and closed again. That was likely the Artist coming back, the Bard thought, and he gently squeezed the Thief’s side. “Should I go check on them?” he whispered.
He felt the Thief shrug against him.
Laying like this was calming. A little depressing as Roman realized he was cuddling against himself, but, well. What can you do. They both elected to wait until someone came in from the foyer, where the Artist had led everyone into and was now making six mugs of tea.
Logan was the last to enter, closing the door behind himself. Another throb of pain jolted through his head, and he couldn’t stifle a quiet groan. It felt like something was pushing on the inside of his skull, trying to break out.
“Logan?” he heard Deceit ask.
He was leaning on the door now, hand still gripping the handle as he rested his forehead and tried to stop feeling dizzy. He squeezed his eyes shut tight as the fluorescent lights were just a bit too bright for him to handle. This was the worst bout yet.
Multiple hands grabbed him, leading him slowly back to the couch he’d been at prior.
“Logan, honey?” Patton asked.
He laid down on the couch, shifting as the hands left. How expedient of a situation. The pain subsided only slightly, returning to sit in the back of his cranium.
“Yo, Professor Plum, are you going to say something?” the Artist said.
They all were sitting now, Deceit on the coffee table, Patton on the ground beside the couch and the Artist on the couch’s armrest. Logan’s eyes were still closed, but he lifted his thumb up, resting his hand on his stomach, and all of their shoulders loosened.
“I have a headache,” Logan stated, “That is all. It will pass.”
The trio all looked worriedly at each other, gesturing at one another as though asking if they’d heard about this headache. As it became more and more apparent that this was news to all of them, Patton turned back to Logan. He knew how to deal with Logan’s occasional headaches, often brought on from Thomas overthinking things or having to deal with strenuous mental exercises. Or Taxes. It was tax season, after all..
“Darn. What kinda tea is that?” Patton asked, gesturing to the cups, “Do you have any peppermint?”
The Artist bit his lip and waved his hand over the cup. The scent, which had been light and fruity, shifted into mint. “Now it is,” he said, worry ebbing into his voice, “Is there anything else we can do?”
“How long have you had this headache?” Deceit asked, still watching Logan.
“Since we entered the Imagination. It was small, when we woke up in that forest yesterday,” Logan rubbed his forehead and took off his glasses, “Patton, can you hold these?”
Patton took them wordlessly and set them on the coffee table.
“And you stated earlier that you’ve never been in the Imagination?” Deceit asked again.
Patton glanced at him. Deceit was, once again, taking notes. Well, more like poking his pen against a specific page in his notepad.
“Yes. I have never been here before.”
“Ah.” Deceit circled something on the page and poked his pen against it again.
“Ah?” the Artist asked, brow furrowing, “Ah, like, ‘ah, by Jove, I’ve got it’ kinda ah?”
It was Deceit’s job to ‘get it,’ as the Artist put it. But now he had to explain what was wrong.
Something Deceit was very well known for being bad at. He opened his mouth to ask a question, but was first interrupted by Logan.
“Have YOU been in the Imagination before?”
Deceit bobbed his head to either side, thinking. “Yes. I have,” no need for details.
“Roman let you in?” Patton sounded surprised, and Deceit waved his hand.
“No, of course not.” and he was cut off again, this time by the Artist with a clearing of the throat. An incredibly offended clearing of the throat.
“Yeah, no, we don’t let just anyone in. Do you see how much work we’ve put into this place? It’s more elaborate than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You’ve come in a few times, just to help with memories in dreams, right? Virgil’s helped with a few nightmares. But mostly it’s just me. And….well,” the Artist pursed his lips and waved his hand, indicating ‘you know.’
Before anyone could ask follow up questions, he stood up. “I’m, uh, I’m gonna go check on Thief and Bard.”
The Thief, the Bard....wait, that was just three Romans. Deceit frowned up at the Artist’s retreating back, switching gears for a moment. “Where’s the Playwright?”
“He doesn’t like being, uh, on stage. His words,” the Artist’s eyes flicked up for a second, before looking back at Deceit, “He’s also grabbing costumes for the ball tonight.”
The three Sides vaguely remembered the incredibly long corridor of costumes and the extended process of trying to dress for the medieval setting.
Logan frowned. The “medieval” setting indeed. It was so historically inaccurate that he was taking a running count of the innacuracies that seem to be without a Doylist explanation, and had been considering what the historically plausible alternatives were. What kinds of outfits would be accurate for a ball, though?
He winced again, closing his eyes and laying down again as the headache bounded back in full force.
Deceit, Patton, and the Artist all looked back at him. Truthfully, the Artist felt guilty; Logan seemed to be doing fine before he arrived, so the increase in headache-induced-acheing was probably connected to him. Somehow.
“I’m gonna bring Thief and Bard some tea,” he mumbled, picking up two of the mugs, “Sorry the Imagination sucks, Logan.”
And he darted away before any of them could tell him to not.
Patton blinked, looking around. He could have sworn the Artist was just with them. Oh, he must have left.
Had Logan had his tea? Patton had zoned out for a little there and hadn’t noticed. He shifted how he was sitting on the ground, pulling his knees up to his chest and looking around the room again.
Where were they again?
Dr. Picani’s office, oh, yeah.
Where had the Artist gone?
“Artist….?” Patton hummed, quiet and to himself as to not interrupt the other two.
“Now,” Deceit seemed unphased by the Artist’s quick exit, turning back to Logan with his notepad, “It came back? Just now?”
“Yes. Stop talking for a second, please,” Logan raised a finger.
Deceit nodded and puffed up his cheeks, looking up and around at the room. His eyes eventually landed on Patton, who was still looking around, vaguely confused. But now he was more confused about why he was so confused because, like, of COURSE he saw the Artist leave. Patton’s eyes refocused, blinking at Deceit. He waved one hand.
At first, Deceit’s expression didn’t change, and Patton lowered his hand. But then, slowly, Deceit blinked at him, then stuck his tongue out slightly.
“Blep,” Patton whispered.
Deceit smirked, and winked. Blep indeed.
Patton slapped his hand over his own mouth, stifling his giggles as Logan lowered his hand. “Alright. I am okay.”
“Good,” Deceit said, turning his attention quickly back to the logical side, “Now, actually, Patton.”
Patton perked up. “Mhm?”
“Do you feel any difference?” Deceit crossed his legs where he sat, pen sitting on his notepad as he waited.
Patton tilted his head in thought, then shook it. “Not like a headache or anything,” he made a gesture with his hands, as though he were pulling something apart between them, “It’s like….like. A feelings-y thing. I’m feeling a little more airheaded than usual? You know, like how you feel right after we binge-watch The Office.”
Deceit watched him blankly. He didn’t have the heart to tell Patton that that made absolutely no sense because he wasn’t the overseer of Thomas’ emotional interpretation, so he just nodded.
“Patton,” he turned to Logan, who was gesturing into the air above him while laying down, “I do not know what the fuck that means.”
And there Logan was with the incredibly tired realism. Patton deflated. “Oh,” he hummed, frowning at the ground as he thought of a new way to explain the sensation.
Honestly, it’d been building, like a burp. There were a lot of things going on he didn’t agree with, and a lot of things that plain hurt, but there were weird things he’d never felt before.
Patton hummed angrily behind his lips, drumming his fingers against his chin for a moment in thought. What kinds of feelings had he never felt before? How would he know?
Gosh, that didn’t even make sense to him. Patton was getting his thoughts wrapped in a tizzy. He balled up his hands in his lap and tried again.
“Well, it’s like….like you’ve just experienced so much that you KNOW! You know you know what’s going to happen, but it still happens and you still feel everything, but not as big as before, like it’s an echo? Almost? It feels like I can kinda feel everything a lot always. And on top of that, I feel like I’m letting a lot more slide. Like, earlier. I know you’ve got a headache, but language.”
Logan sighed tiredly and Patton waved his hands a little frantically, backtracking. “I know! But I didn’t really register that! I had to think about it! But usually I can just, ya know, know, and usually you’d know too, right? It’s like what I’m feeling and what I’d USUALLY feel about things are all wonky, so I’m sensing things and feeling things a lot slower than usual.”
Logan exhaled, then rubbed his face with both of his hands.
That made only the tiniest modicum of sense.
Well, it made perfect sense to the person who’d been looking for that answer. Deceit jotted down another note and exhaled, nice and slow. Eureka, he supposed.
How was he going to synthesize this in an understandable way?
“Logan, Patton, remember how surprised Bard, Thief, and Child were earlier, over how time was moving at a regular rate?” Deceit asked them both, looking up from his notes and raising an eyebrow.
“Uh, huh. They said it’d been a whole week but you said it’d only been a few hours,” Patton crossed his legs on the ground and leaned back on the couch, head resting beside Logan’s shoulder.
“Exactly. And that time thing changed, what, when we first arrived here?”
Logan raised an eyebrow. He still had his eyes closed, despite the fact that his headache had eased up once more. It was just pleasantly calming at this point. “Do you think our arrival into the Imagination had something to do with the time scale changing?”
Oh good, Logan got it instantaneously. Deceit clapped, nodding excitedly. “Yes!”
“But I dunno how to change anything in here. If we’re not trying to change things, then why’re they changing?” Patton slumped, knitting his eyebrows together in thought and tapping Logan’s hand, “You know anything about that, kiddo?”
“I’m afraid I have to confess ignorance to how the Imagination works. On this side, I assumed Roman controlled everything.”
That was valid; Deceit couldn’t profess to being an expert either, but what other explanation was there? He had other evidences, too. “But do you both remember how the town looked when we first arrived? Or the forest?”
Patton watched Deceit as his brows pinched even tighter. He was really trying to remember, and he knew what he thought it’d looked like, but he wasn’t sure. It did look different this morning compared to yesterday evening, too, but he couldn’t pinpoint in what ways.
“Not quite,” he made a so-so hand motion. “It sure looks different, though, but I dunno how.”
“I cannot either,” Logan said. “It looked like a town, but I cannot remember any precise details.”
“Neither can I, but that’s the point,” Deceit twirled his pen in the air, as though circling the town, “We know what it looks like now! It’s got detail.”
“Yes, possibly because we’ve been in the town for longer. It stands to reason that, the longer we are in an environment, the more that environment becomes familiar,” getting much farther away now, Logan, “That seems more likely than our entrance into the Imagination impacting the physical landscape.”
“Not just the physical landscape,” Deceit huffed, annoyed now as he crossed his arms, “I think all of us are adding our own assets to whatever story Roman’s trying to tell in here.”
Logan scowled at the ceiling. That was possible, but in Logan’s opinion, less plausible. He and Patton had no idea how to change things, especially how to change the things that Roman had so painstakingly built.
In theory, it shouldn’t be any harder than striking a red line through it, similar to how he would when editing one of Roman’s scripts. But in practice, Logan wouldn’t know where to begin or what sorts of — he cringed — feelings it would envoke.
COULD their very presence in the Imagination be changing it? His headaches usually stemmed from being overworked. Could he, as a Side, be overcompensating for the lack of Logic in an Imagination purely overrun by Creativity?
Logan frowned at the ceiling. He would have to concede to Deceit — his theory made sense, the more Logan considered it.
Deceit looked from Logan to Patton, who was flapping his knees up and down while he sat. When he met Deceit’s eyes, he shrugged apologetically. Patton was still zipping slowly in and out of understanding; he’d always attributed that to the Imagination because, well, that’s just how the Imagination had always been for him. And implying that Roman’s imagination would be hurting them? That didn’t make sense! Roman would never, he wasn’t evil!
“I just thought it was ‘cause it was the Imagination. I wouldn’t want to change anything about what Roman’s making. Plus, Roman always talks about how creation doesn’t make sense, ya know,” he fixed his glasses and held his legs with both hands.
“Does it not, or does Roman think it wouldn’t make sense to us?” Deceit asked. The uncertainty that passed over Patton’s face was interrupted by a cold question.
“What doesn’t make sense to you?”
Deceit and Patton both looked over to the door, where the Artist had returned from the other room. His hands were stuffed into his pockets, posture rigid.
Numbly, Deceit wondered how much he’d heard. The Artist met his gaze with a hardened glare, but nodded to the other room. “Thief wants to talk to you,” he stated, “Just you. And I wanna talk to Logan and Patton.”
The Artist had heard enough to be vaguely upset that they were talking about him behind his back.
Deceit sighed and climbed off of the coffee table finally. He’d die before sitting in a seat correctly.
“Fine. Maybe they’ll understand what I’m trying to say,” he stated, giving Patton a look that plainly read ‘Think about it or I’ll stab you with this sword.’
You know what, Patton took back the thing about Deceit being an actor. That anger was thinly veiled at best.
But he also loved him.
So Patton smiled at Deceit and blew him a small kiss.
He absolutely hadn’t expected Deceit’s eyes to widen, nor for him to walk straight into the wall beside the hallway and sputter in indignation.
Deceit slid into the other room quickly, avoiding the Artist. Which was fine. Completely. Fine.
The Artist walked back and sat down on the ground, beside Patton. He leaned his head back and nudged Logan’s hip. “Your head still hurt, Cranium Command?” he asked, voice much softer and….was that guilt?
Well, they couldn’t have the Artist blaming himself for a quandary he had no hand in. Plus, that was quite the Disney-rooted nickname, and Logan couldn’t deny that he was pleased with it. He shook his head with a quiet hum. “A little, but not as forcefully.”
“That’s good. Uh,” the Artist held one of his knees, letting the other leg straighten out beneath the table, “Playwright actually wanted me to ask why you haven’t looked at his book more often.”
“Oh?”
“Worm?” Patton added.
The Artist snorted, giving him a soft smile and nudging his arm. This Roman was real different, in Patton’s mind. So quiet and unsure of himself outside of the persona he’d built for himself, that of a worker. His smiles were like those tiny ones Roman would give, when wrapped beneath his arms, or when receiving praise for a job well done.
He unthinkingly straightened the strings on the Artist’s hoodie, humming quietly, and the Artist took one of his hands.
Before anything else, though, Logan grunted. Both of them scooted forward, letting Logan swing his legs carefully between them. “Let us peruse this book, then,” he murmured, taking the book from his coat once more.
“Oh, yeah, THAT book!” Patton said, pointing to it.
His hand lowered as they saw the cover.
“Woah,” the Artist murmured, “Interesting design. I would have coated everything in the same level of golden foil, though. It’s a little unbalanced right now.”
Every bit of Roman’s crest was visible to some extent, indicating that they’d met everyone. That must mean, Logan realized, Virgil met the Damsel. He didn’t know if that alleviated some of his worries about never finding that particular Roman, or if it worried him that the center tower of the castle was the most blank portion of the entire crest.
Should he point it all out? Would that be awkward, with the Artist present? The ocean’s (or was it a lake, because of the lake outside of the town’s walls) waves were present as a flat yellow color, not glittering but at least with vibrantly visible lines. The most bold part, glowing golden, was still the central spiralling sun.
A part of Logan’s chest loosened, knowing that they hadn’t failed the Child, that he still believed in them all. In all honesty, seeing the entire crest, even the Dragon’s thin golden castle wall outlines, comforted some part of him that was worried they’d never reassemble Roman.
Pattn pressed a finger to the cover.
“What’s this all mean again?” he asked, brow furrowing in concentration.
He couldn’t, for the life of him, remember what the entire book was for. Which was super bad, considering the Playwright had given it to them yesterday.
In his defense, though, it’d been a LONG, long, long, long, long day.
This was definitely going to get awkward. Logan didn’t particularly care, though; if the Artist had qualms with it, he would have to take it up with the Playwright. “The cover indicates how much we’ve ‘convinced’ every form of Roman that we appreciate his existence,” Logan explained.
“Ah.” The Artist’s voice was eerily level.
“Oh, yeah! Wow, the Child really likes us,” Patton drew his finger along the outer edge of the crest, a thin line of ink in the indentation that was barely glowing, “What’s who?”
“We broke it up ourselves, I’m the waves,” the Artist pointed out himself, intrigue growing as he looked over the cover once more, “Interesting. I, uh. Wow. Interesting plot device.”
“That is likely why the Playwright is upset with me not using it as often. I did not expect this excursion to last for long, nor for it to go as fast as it is,” Logan rubbed the back of his neck, gently rubbing the spot where his neck connected to his skull.
The motion was not missed by Patton. “D’ya want a massage while you read?” he offered, standing up slowly.
Ah. Logan blinked up at Patton’s blurry face. Had he been able to see, he would have seen the gentle and ultimately fond smile he wore. “That would be lovely, Patton. Thank you,” he leaned forward and took his glasses from the table, slipping them back on as Patton climbed up onto the couch, sitting on the top of it behind Logan.
His hands rested gently on Logan’s shoulders, then slid closer to his neck. A good call, to start with — oh, Patton was so gentle. Logan let the tension leave his shoulders and tried to focus on the book. If he thought too hard about the fact that Patton was intimately touching his shoulders….AND, if he thought about how much he was being touched currently, with the Artist’s head resting on his thigh, Patton’s hands on his back…
He straightened his back a little more and sniffed. Too many emotions today.
“Looks like Bard’s bein’ a little bratty baby,” the Artist pointed to the mountains, dim in the crest’s background.
“His apprehension is valid. Trust should be earned,” Logan responded, raising his eyebrow at the Artist’s quoting, “I find that it is surprising that Dragon trusts us at all. Perhaps Virgil has spoken with him. If we were ranking….”
His eyes flicked to the Artist, who raised an eyebrow expectantly. “Give us your top seven Roman belief list,” he said, as though trying to comfort Logan’s worry.
“I’d like to hear, those lines do kinda look the same to me,” Patton added from behind, knees on either side of Logan’s shoulders giving him an awkwardly placed squeeze.
The succor helped, at least. Logan blinked in place of a nod and looked back at the cover. “It appears that Child trusts us most, followed by you. Then it is Thief, and then Bard, then Playwright, Dragon, and Damsel.”
Patton sighed. He was still upset that the Playwright was feeling so disconnected from them. He’d actually been looking forward to spending some downtime with him, have an open discussion about what he wanted. Last time must have been dragged down by the need to, what’d he say?
Provide exposition. Yeah!
After all, Patton didn’t want to leave him waiting in the wings.
He snorted to himself, leaning forward and almost pressing his head to Logan’s, before he stopped mid motion. That’d be bad, they had boundaries and all! He straightened up and cleared his throat.
Playwright needed his turn in the spotlight.
Patton let out a quiet laugh and shook his head.
“Well,” the Artist hummed, after they’d both starred at the cover for a few quiet seconds, “Open it.”
Ah. Right. Logan flicked the book open. The Artist said “ah” quietly and added, “Playwright mentioned the Author’s Notes. Didn’t say anything about reading it, but I’d recommend reading something with notes from him.”
That was the first section added. Logan suspected that that had been originally crossed off, before they even found the town, because it was written directly below the scribbled out section. He flipped the book’s pages, expecting only a few notes. Why would the Playwright write them authors’ notes if he was planning to visit them?
The answer was more clear when he reached the page. The Artist whistled low, and Patton winced. “Oh, boy,” he murmured above Logan’s head.
Logan simply didn’t react.
The pages were full of notes, some scribbled out, some written large, some written hastily, some blotted out with water. Perhaps tears? The first note was written clearly, marked with a date and time even.
“I hope you understand, but I would prefer not to enter the Imagination. I like to remove myself  from the narrative. :)”
Of course, a Hamilton reference. Logan chuckled quietly and continued reading the notes aloud.
“Now that you’ve found the Thief’s tree, it shouldn’t be too hard to locate the other figments. Do you need assistance?”
“Please?”
“It’s crossed out?” Patton asked, pointing to the note.
Logan nodded. “Yes, it is. Do you know why?” he directed the last part to the Artist and was met with a shrug. The strikeouts only continued, some in thick scribbles, but others in neat and crisp lines that left the words semi-legible beneath.
“Apparently not. These notes may be useless, butThen again, it’s not like Roman the Bard, the Thief, and the Child are good at hiding. The Damsel will be most difficult to find.”
“Good call with the guards. I miss you all already. I think I gave you a pen, in your coat? Or you could just speak. I’ll hear you.”
“Please, tell Patton to not worry too much. Virgil and Deceit have found the Thief and are enroute to his tree; they will be safe. I would actually recommend going there instead of staying with the Artist. He is difficult to handle, at best, and atrocious at worst.”
The Artist scoffed and pointed at the note. “Go write a chorus,” he hissed, turning to the sky and flipping it off.
“Roman!” Patton scolded him, stopping his massaging and putting a hand over the Artist’s. While the Artist rolled his eyes, Logan continued.
“And you’re going to the Artist’s house. I would recommend that you don’t speak ill of his paintings, they’re all he has to live for.”
“I know I said I didn’t want to come to the Imagination, but the Artist is speaking ill of you, and I’m going to go fight him. If you need anything, please let me know.”
“You know, you’re allowed to pass this book to any of the others, too, Logan. It’s not just for you. I know you’re obsessed in love with might eat fond of books, but I would prefer this book in the hands of someone who will interact with it.”
“That’s absurd. Who would he have had me pass this book onto?” Logan mumbled, rubbing his jaw.
The Artist shrugged. “He was probably getting emo. Sad you weren’t reading his dumb lil’ book, as though it’s not the most useless method of communication ever. What kinda video game tutorial.”
“It’s pretty stylish, though. I like it!” Patton said with a grin.
“What’s the point of even warning you about that if you’re not going to read this to notice.”
“I guess you’re never going to read this.”
Logan hummed quietly. It was getting more and more distressing.
“Why would you? Roman’s only a nuisance. And I’m part of him, aren’t I. Can’t hide that!”
“I promise I’m not just a nuisance. I’m better. I’m the better one. Right?”
“Roman’s better.”
“Oh, God, what if being a nuisance is so crucial to being Roman that all of us are nuisances. That would make sense, given how ridiculous this whole situation is. We’re such idiots. I’m such an idiot, why would I listen
“I guess I’m not going to succeed at this contest! I’m not dumb enough to be Roman. Hah!”
“It’s almost a solace that no one’s ever going to read this.”
“Team Work makes the Dream Work. Cute. Tell Virgil that’s cute. I love him.”
“I’m sorry for yelling at the Artist. I’ll tell him myself soon, but I also wanted to tell you, because Patton and Logan heard. I want to be useful, somehow.”
“The most striking difference between Roman and I is” the following text was so scribbled out it was illegible. Everything was crossed out. Red lines were appearing on all of the text, actually.
“He’s crossing it all out right now,” Patton mumbled into Logan’s hair.
He’d given up rubbing his shoulders and was now simply sitting atop the couch, legs cradling Logan’s shoulders.
“You shouldn’t be ashamed of what you’ve written,” Logan said, seemingly to no one. Neither of them, at least.
The Artist looked up at him.
“If you would like to speak honestly to us, then please do. I understand that trust must be earned, but how can we prove ourselves trustworthy without any chances to do so? You have been incredibly helpful. These notes would have been indicative of the path we should have taken, and it’s on us….it is my fault that we did not know,” Logan drummed his fingers against the book’s side, “We would like to talk with you more. And not just through a book.”
The lines stopped. The Artist sat up, watching the page, then looking up at Logan. His lip was quirked up slightly; he knew what he’d said.
A small arrow appeared on the bottom of the page, pointing to the edge of the book. Logan flipped the page.
At the top of the new blank page was more writing.
“Thanks for checking eventually.”
“It is my pleasure. My one concern with the book was that it would provide information we already knew,” Logan felt Patton squeeze his shoulders with his knees, “For example, the Dragon’s section is fairly nondescript. However, if you are uncomfortable with entering this level of the Imagination directly, then we can surely communicate via the book.”
More writing appeared, then was smudged.
They could almost imagine the Playwright swearing at himself for smudging the ink.
“Okay. Thank you.”
Not taking more chances, hm. Logan hummed, patting the book.
“Thank you for your ingenuity,” he responded.
Patton turned his attention to the Artist, while Logan comforted the Playwright by speaking to the air. It seemed that they didn’t need the pen, after all. The Artist was starring hard at the book, jaw set in an angry disgruntlement.
“Hey, Artist?”
“Mh?” he looked up at Patton, pushing his glasses up tiredly.
There was still something Patton couldn’t really understand about the Playwright’s writings. He slid down beside the Artist and held open an arm, an offering for if the Artist wanted a hug.
To which he shook his head with an apologetic frown. Not much of a hugger. Patton smiled, that was okay, and patted the Artist’s knee.
“What did he mean, about not being Roman?” he asked. “I thought all of you were Roman.”
The Artist frowned and, for a second, Patton was a little worried he didn’t understand what he was asking. But then the Artist seemed to have a lightbulb moment, eyes lighting with understanding, before he scowled again.
“I don’t really….know, know. The whole point of all of this is that we WERE Roman,” the Artist rubbed the back of his neck, looking sidelong at the door, “I mean, the ways we’re connected to him differ. And the, uh, the levels of how much we exist as being in Thomas’ mind versus as Imagination creations is wild. I don’t know how real we are in terms of being real parts of Roman. It’s kinda hard to explain.”
“Sounds like it,” Patton nodded sympathetically, “Some of y’all don’t feel like Roman?”
The Artist shook his head. “I’d argue that none of us feel like Roman. Not really. We just all want to feel like Roman, so we say we do. One of us’ gotta be Roman enough, right?”
Alright, now he lost Patton. Before he could ask further, though, the door at the end of the hall banged open as the Bard jumped out, startling the other three.
“Whoops!” he called and lunged into the room with one leg, “Sorry about that, darlings, but we need you in the room pronto.”
Tumblr media
“Fine. Maybe they’ll understand what I’m trying to say,” Deceit turned around and slid into the room.
Of all things he expected to find, it was not the Bard and the Thief cuddling like a married couple, especially in light of their argument earlier. The Thief’s cloak and shirt were hanging on the nearby coat rack, chest wrapped in thick layers of bandages. They were leaned closer to each other, whispering about something, something about the ball that night. Deceit raised an eyebrow and coughed to get their attention.
Both simply looked up at him, neither concerned about their positioning. Honestly, figures.
“Heyyy,” the Bard sang, beckoning Deceit in with a hand, “Come sit!”
Deceit squinted at them and grabbed the chair across from the couch. He spun it around and sat backwards in it, legs straddling the backrest. Once he’d leaned over the backrest, one hand wrapped around it while the other held up his head, he spoke. “You called?”
“Yeah,” the Thief shifted, patting the Bard’s side as he sat up, pulling no punches, “You kissed us?”
Ah. Welp. Deceit immediately shot the Bard a glare, opening his mouth to reprimand him, but the Thief interrupted. “No, no, he didn’t tell me. He just, uh, well,” they shared a worried look before the Thief turned back to Deceit, “He confirmed what I thought. We all felt it.”
Deceit recoiled, confused mostly. “You all what?”
“Felt your kiss,” the Thief’s cheeks turned red as he scooted himself up, the Bard stuffing pillows behind him and hissing unintelligibly at him, though he was too engrossed in the conversation to notice. “Me, Child, Dragon, we were all in a scuffle when we felt someone kiss our cheek. Couldn’t have been Logan or Virgil, might have been Patton but Bard said it was you.”
The Bard clenched his teeth in worry and made a so-so hand motion. “Guess I did tell him one teensy thing,” he said.
“How does….how did you feel it?” Deceit’s brows pinched as he took out his notepad again, looking down at what he’d written, “Is it something to do with the whole ‘we’re all Roman’ thing?”
“I don’t know.”
“I was trying to tell you, Ponyboy, it means we’re gonna be whole soon!” the Bard gently punched the Thief’s arm, then threw his arm around him and laughed.
Deceit raised an eyebrow at them, but his expression went unnoticed at first. He scribbled something down about how fast the Bard and Thief made up after their argument — perhaps they were compatible sides of each other?
No, no way, not after the arguing.
“Pony boy?” the Thief asked, frowning at the Bard.
Who winked at him and stuck his tongue out. “Stay gold,” he whispered.
The Thief groaned and shoved his shoulder, prompting the Bard to laugh. He wrapped his arms around the Thief’s waist gingerly, below his bandages. Had he any strength, the Thief would have pushed him off, but he opted for a tired eye roll and level glare.
Deceit clapped to get their attention, because no facial expressions were interrupting whatever was happening here. “Moving past that,” he made a ‘continue’ hand gesture, “Care to explain what ‘going to be whole’ means?”
The Bard rested his head on the Thief’s shoulder with a wide grin. His eyes would have sparkled if they — no wait, there, they were sparkling. “I’ve got a hunch that all that we need to bring us together is a little bit of love!”
“And I,” the Thief said, putting one hand on the Bard’s face and pushing him off slowly, “Think that’s one of the dumbest suggestions possible.”
The Bard scowled at him, nudging him with his hip. “Oh, you know what I’m talking about! It’s like true love’s kiss! True love’s kiss solves everything!”
True love’s kiss. A fairytale ending for a fairytale adventure?
Deceit hated it.
“No.” True love? Get out of here with that. He had barely believed in love as a general concept before coming into the Imagination, he wasn’t ready to commit to TRUE love.
Plus he’d already kissed one Roman on the cheek today and that was enough. He’d like to be kissing the real Roman next, but, well. Maybe he wasn’t ready for it? Either way, Deceit’s entire being was telling him to not.
He’d admitted QUITE a bit in the past, what. Hour? Two hours? And he wasn’t keen on anything else. It made his stomach churn.
The Thief was semi-on his side, as he shot the Bard a glare. “This isn’t a fairytale, Bard.”
“Oh, isn’t it, Flynn Rider?”
“Either way, that’s gonna take Deceit spilling the tea,” the Thief held up a finger at the Bard and turned to Deceit. “What happened?”
Deceit raised his eyebrow. “Oh, you just want me to tell you?”
“Uh. Yeah,” the Thief waved his hands around,  “What else?”
Deceit crossed his arms. He didn’t want to disclose this fact; not of his own volition, at least, and not just yet. He’d been so upfront with Logan and Patton that he wasn’t sure how much more emotional validation he could withstand today without crying or something. “Why would I?”
“To prove him wrong,” the Thief jerked a thumb back at the Bard.
“To prove me right!” and the Bard preened, putting his hands beneath his chin and giving Deceit an award winning smile.
“No.”
Both Romans frowned. “No?” the Bard asked, “Wait, I was literally there, you DID!”
“Maybe you saw wrong?” oh, God, they were going to argue again.
“I didn’t see wrong! I—”
“Fine,” Deceit snapped, interrupting their squabbles, “Yes, I kissed the Artist on the cheek, but I don’t know anything about making you all whole. I don’t know what you want of me.”
The Thief and Bard had certainly shifted. Now the Bard was sitting on the top of the couch, legs crossed and back resting on the wall, while the Thief was laying across the couch still, legs kicked up and nudging the Bard’s knees.
They both froze, looking at Deceit through his confession. The Thief cleared his throat and propped himself up on his elbows, scooting back to lay on the armrest. “Deceit, buddy, I just wanna make sure this isn’t the answer. We want you to kiss us again.”
“If you wanted a kiss, you could have just said so,” he fixed his gloves, trying not to look at either of the Romans too directly. “Why go through all these lengths for something that means nothing?”
“Means….nothing?” the Bard’s voice was so small.
“Yes, it’s just a kiss,”
“A kiss means everything!” the Bard snapped. He jumped up, standing on the couch with one foot on the backrest and one on the armrest, towering above. “When you kissed us, we all felt it, and it felt...it felt like something. It felt like we were whole in the moment, but….”
“See, you can’t even describe the feeling,” the Thief scoffed, shaking his head disapprovingly, “Ridiculous.”
“If you’re just going to argue again, can I go?” Deceit asked, annoyance clear.
He’d thought these two Romans may be compatible, but it seemed that even they couldn’t agree on anything. At least they were still being civil. At least. Who knew how long that would last?
Both of them looked up at him and said “Wait,” with similar levels of desperation. Deceit put his hands up in mock-surrender, tired of their, of Roman’s, antics. It’d been a long day, could you really blame him?
“We,” the Thief started, eyes flicking to the Bard, who nodded for him to speak as he slid down to sit on the armrest, “We thought it’d be best to. Disclose. That Roman loves. All of you.”
His teeth grew more gritted as the confession came out. The Bard looked back at Deceit and nodded vigorously, clasping his hands to his chest and standing. He leaned down in front of Deceit, ignoring how Deceit leaned back, and met his eye-level. “Roman loves all four of you. I love all four of you, so, so much that it hurts,” he whispered.
Deceit watched his eyes, watched them glimmer with unseen red and gold, and steeled his expression. That wasn’t necessarily as big of a surprise as it was a confession. It was like a breath of fresh air, the truth. He didn’t always get to see it so blatantly.
Truth to Deceit was like high percentage alcohol. It was incredibly bad in large quantities, and was an acquired taste, but he could partake. And sometimes it was nice. But today had held a lot of hard truths and a lot of bare feelings, and he wasn’t sure how much he could take of this rampant exposure.
It was all given honesty, though, and given trust. He couldn’t fight that. Not when Roman was so disassembled, and not when it was about something he’d never dared to dream of.
“I am….glad,” Deceit stated, trying to figure out how to word it right.
The Thief frowned, and the Bard leaned back, a blank expression overtaking his face. Perhaps those weren’t the right words. They exchanged a look and the Bard shuffled slowly toward the door.
“Bard thought we should tell you, just in case. That just means Dragon loves you all, too. He won’t hurt Virgil,” the Thief said.
Deceit frowned. Hang on.
Hang on, there, because that contradicted what he’d said earlier.
“You said that Dragon wanted to dismember us,” he asked.
The Thief nodded. “I don’t know now. He, uh. He was pretty adamant about just hurting me and Child, so it’s a hunch on my part.”
“I don’t think he will,” the Bard’s voice had softened.
Deceit glanced at him, catching a tired smile. He waved back at Deceit, then gestured with his thumb to the door. “I’m going to get the others. We should plan for the ball tonight, right? Planning? That’s a thing?”
“It is,” Deceit said, pursing his lips.
He couldn’t help but feel that he’d said something wrong, as the Bard dashed out of the room.
“This whole separation thing’s been hard,” Deceit looked back at the Thief, who was tracing shapes with his finger against his leg.
“I can imagine. It’s confusing for us, it must only get easier,” he hummed, then leaned over on his knee, “You’re trusting Bard now?”
The Thief gave him a small glare, noncommittal enough that he gave up after a seconds and looked away. “I’m….not Roman. Not fully. So I don’t have all the answers. Bard’s got some.”
Not Roman.
Of course. They shouldn’t have been putting their trust in any one or two singular Romans. Each of the Romans was just as Roman as the next.
Okay, he should stop thinking Roman’s name, because it was starting to sound less like a word. That fell in line, though, with his prior conclusion about the Imagination. Things were falling apart without any control in here, things that Creativity should be able to control, things that wouldn’t typically hurt the other Sides.
Deceit frowned, and wrote down another question. Curses; that oversight was on him. He’d tend to it at another time, though. For now…. “Thief?”
“Mh?” the Thief looked up, eyes half lidded with boredom.
Deceit’s lip quirked up in just the tiniest of smiles. “I’m glad you’re safe.”
The Thief’s eyes widened at first, but then he fell back into a comforting smile. “Thanks, Riddler. Let’s get this show on the road.”

I might write a second part to this? Maybe Pat or Lo finds out how Ro’s been treating V? And they find out why he has (which yes there is a reason) and they comfort him and kinda make him talk to V on what’s wrong blah blah blah. OR I could make it more angsty by having V get sick or injured and Ro realizes how much he actually liked V as a younger brother and starts getting overprotective like an older brother should and they make up blah blah blah.
So let me know if you guys want a second part to this!

“I’m so glad we get to finally bring you home, kiddo!”
Patton, his new dad, beamed at him from the front seat as he drove. The small toddler smiled faintly back as the older man talked and talked endlessly. Honestly it felt…weird.
Normally when he gets taken to a new house the new parents don’t…particularly enjoy his company, not by a long shot, and they always make it known that he will never truly be a part of the family. He’ll always be an outcast. A nobody. Somebody that people will just throw away. Somebody that people use for the money, and that’s it. That’s all he’s worth, the few scraps of money that people get when they adopt him.
He’ll never actually be anybody’s son, right?
So why was Patton trying to make him feel that way?
The small darkly worn child couldn’t wrap his mind around it.
So instead he stayed silent throughout the entire trip to their home. Or so he wished he could.
“Oh, Virge, do you like dogs?”
He cleared his throat and mumbled back, “They are alright, sir.”
There was a moment of silence then Patton’s blue eyes met his dark ones from the front mirror. The child gulped and shifted in his seat. He screwed up again, didn’t he?
Majority of the parents didn’t like it when he called them dad or mom, they preferred if he called them sir or ma'am. And though they have gone over that he could call him by his first name he couldn’t help but think that it would all change once he is adopted by them right? They don’t have to put up a nice front anymore.
“Sweetie,” He looked back towards the road, “You don’t have to call me that, we’ve been over this. I know people before liked it when you called them that but you don’t have to with me, alright? I’m your dad now. And Lo’s your dad, too.”
“…Okay…” He mumbled under his breath staring back out of the window as he fidgeted with his hoodie sleeve. He didn’t know what to feel or think about this. Calling them dad? That feels…weird? Wrong? He wasn’t sure what the word is. And he wasn’t sure if he would ever get used to it. But he gulped and shifted more in the seat.
Maybe these men would be different than his previous parents? He could only hope so.
That’s all he’s wanted honestly. Family. Parents. A home. Ever since he understood the concept he’s wanted it. But he’s never gotten it. Sure there have been a few families that have seemed like that but in the end… They weren’t.
Virgil was different. Virgil was a problem child. Virgil was a child who still threw tantrums. Virgil was a child that was too much to deal with.
The list went on.
He’s learned over the few years to not have his hopes up the hard way. It’ll only crush him. What’s the point in wasting time and energy like that? What’s the point of getting attached only for it to be thrown out of the window within a few months time?
What’s the point in believing in something that he shouldn’t ever wish for?
Though he does have to admit Patton and Logan were a bit different then the normal parents he’s had. They were more…cheery. More lively. More energetic. Something that he wished to be a part of, something that his heart ached to be a part of. And they kept saying that they loved him. But were that true? Others have said that before only to turn him back in after a few of his attacks saying they were unable to handle him…
Virgil signed under his breath as he still heard Patton talk again. That was until their house was finally in sight. The child stood up straighter in his seat keeping his head down as they drove up the driveway. He stayed silent still as Pat got outside then let him out.
His eyes drifted over the house his eyes widening at the size of it, he wasn’t expecting the house to be this huge! It looked so fancy from the outside Virgil was worried what the inside was going to look like. He’s going to look so out of place here he could just feel it.
“Come on darling. Time to meet your new family!”
He was jerked out of his thoughts as Patton held out a hand for him to grab, his other hand holding his one bag that held all his clothes. And his plushie spider.
A small smile drifted on his lips as he took Patton’s hand and the older man beamed even more as he did so walking the steps towards his new place.
When they walked in Virgil gasped loudly before he could stop himself. This place was huge! The tile along the floor made everything stand out even more and made it look even more gorgeous. The spiraling staircase that made its way upstairs was something he’s only seen out of movies and TV shows. Everything looked beautiful and expensive…
Way more expensive than he was worth, that’s for sure. And just one thing properly is worth more than the most money he’s ever seen in his life.
Patton only giggled at his expression and gasp, “Welcome home, kiddo!”
“Yes, welcome. Salutations, Virgil. It’s great to finally greet you like this.”
His huge eyes looked over towards the voice, his other…dad’s voice. As normal, he looked rather serious and stern. His glasses set perfectly on his nose. His arms behind his back as well as the tie on his neck tied perfectly. But one thing that was different about him was the fact that he was smiling faintly. That’s properly the most emotion he’s ever seen out of this man.
Logan took a step towards him from what he guessed would be the living room, and Patton beamed at him.
“Our kiddo is finally home Lo! I’m so happy!”
“Yes, yes, Pat I can see that. Here, while I calm him down why don’t you take your stuff to your room? It’s the first door to your right, you can’t miss it, while your there Roman should be coming down to greet you too.”
Patton giggled as he practically tackled Logan in a hug almost knocking his glasses askew but luckily he managed to save them in time. Logan chuckled under his breath and rolled his eyes as his arms wrapped around the cardigan-wearing man.
“Pat, you really do need to calm yourself. You’ll freak him out.”
“I know but I can’t help it darling. I’m just so happy! He’s finally here! Our precious son!”
Virgil just stared at the couple, really unable to process this. Logan and Patton had always seemed like true opposites from the moment he met them. Patton always having a wide bubbling smile on his face, always bouncing from one thing to the next. While Logan was always serious and almost stone cold all the time. He didn’t show many emotions. But with Pat like this…
He could see it in the way Logan’s dark blue eyes flickered underneath his glasses, he could see it in the way a half smile danced on his lips. He could see it in the way Patton kissed him and hugged him.
They really were truly in love with each other, despite the complete opposite personalities.
Virgil supposes that opposites do attract in this case.
Without saying a word he took his things from Patton, who was still attached to Logan and made his way upstairs. Once he was out of their view his shoulders sagged.
Oh, how he wished, yes he would even dare to wish this time after seeing that, that he was loved like that. That he was shown love for once in his life. All he’s ever been shown in hate, or malicious, or bitterness.
As his eyes darted with tears he wiped it against his black jacket sleeves trying his best not to break into tears right here and now. In a bit, once he is truly left alone, then he could cry and want all he wants. For now, though, he’s got to appear hopeful, he’s got to appear that he’s happy to be here.
That he’s not going to have his hopes and dreams come crashing down within a few months.
Blinking away the last of the tears he turned towards where Logan said his room would be, silently admiring how the hallway looked and all the fancy stuff that littered the small hallway. Everything in this house was so fancy! He knew he couldn’t dare touch a single thing in fear of being yelled at.
As he stepped in front of the first door next to the stairs he had to smile, however, at what greeted him. There was paper taped at the door frame. Every single one said things like ‘welcome home, kiddo!’ or ‘we are glad you are finally with us.’ and he just had to smile at that. That’s the sweetest thing anybody has ever done for him…
Though just as he was about to grab for the doorknob he heard other door being opened and glanced down the hallway. A boy came out, by the looks of it a few years older than him, his hair was swept towards the side. He wore a red jacket and jeans, and he didn’t look happy.
At the sight of Virgil his nose wrinkled in disgust, his eyes bore the look like he was looking at filth. Like he was trash. Instantly Virgil tried to bury himself in his jacket, as his hand gripped onto the bag tighter.
He’s dealt with these kids before, this is nothing new. Just don’t say anything and they will get bored eventually. Don’t react. Don’t do anything.
He repeated to himself as he heard, what he guessed would be Roman, a step towards him within a few steps he was right at Virgil. His arms were crossed over his chest as he peered down at the small child.
“This is what Dad and Papa bring home? A child that looks like he just came from the garbage? I don’t know why they bothered with you. Eventually, they will kick you out, you know that right?”
Virgil gulped hard as his hands turned bright white against the bag. Tears once again threated to leak down his cheeks. His body was in fear of shaking, no he can’t have a tantrum here. Not yet. Once he gets in his room he could. Just wait it out. Wait this out.
“Well? Are you going to respond? Or are you going to play the dumb card?”
So this was why he never met this Roman. He’s met Patton and Logan quite a number of times. Nearly every time they have mentioned that they had another kid, another son, that would just adore having a baby brother. But he’s never met him until now.
He sees why.
This is just like the other houses though. If they had other kids they would pick on him. Eat his food. Steal his things. Blame things on him so he’ll get in trouble. It only fed into the whole 'problem child’ title that he had.
Guess this house was going to be the same after all.
Luckily he heard Patton calling for Roman to come down and help with things. That made Virgil want to breath out in relief.
Roman tsked under his breath, “Whatever. This conversation isn’t over, trash scum.”
And just like that, he left, taking a few steps than making his way down the stairs. As soon as Virgil could hear him downstairs he bolted inside his new 'room’ not even caring about the things inside. None of it mattered. None of it will matter.
That kid was right. He doesn’t belong here. He never will.
Why did he even think of a possibility that he could?
He threw his body on the bed throwing his bag on the floor and buried his face in the blankets and pillows. Within a moment he was crying. Though he was crying silently so he could still hear if somebody came by or if somebody called him and so nobody would hear. But he cried, his entire body shaking with his sobs as he heaved out the tears. Gasping for breath as his heart broke yet again.
Couldn’t he just be loved for once in his life? Is that too much to ask?

Tortillas. Virgil loves his tortillas, especially homemade, the ones his mom makes and when they’re piping hot. Virgil ends up like the Emperor’s New Groove meme, just perfect. Damian also loves tortillas, always homemade. It’s the only ones he can eat and be happy with. They’ve become the tortillas duo.
So when they move in to their first apartment junior year of college with Logan, Roman and Patton, there is always the over lingering scent of tortillas. It makes it feel like home to them two.
However, however. They are very strict about their tortillas. Mostly Virgil. You cannot grab them without making sure they’re not only his. He will gladly make some for you, but when it’s only for him, you do not touch.
After one cold day from college, Virgil gets off the bus and walks towards his apartment. He has no homework, no tests, nothing to worry about for two days. His mom had dropped off fresh tortillas just less than thirty minutes ago, and he knew they would be warm because his mom always finds a way.
Virgil walks in, and is greeted by his warm apartment, sighing in relief and takes off his shoes and jacket, walking around in his sandals. The others were on campus, either class or the library. He puts on music, loud, and walks to the kitchen with an extra step. There, wrapped in aluminum, along with a decorative towel, inside a plastic bag, were the tortillas his great mother dropped off for him.
He smiles, taking it of the bag and wrapping, but finds it off. Usually his mother makes ten for him, since that’s the amount he will sometimes eat for himself. This time, were only five tortillas.
Maybe she ran out of maza, Virgil thought to himself. He was deflated, but they were warm and he ate them with hot chocolate that Patton had left for him in a thermal cup.
The following days, Virgil made tortillas with Damian during the weekend and it was all calm and peaceful at the household. Logan was watching a nature documentary, Roman was practicing a piece for the theater club, and Patton was doing his homework while also trying to plan what to do for Christmas.
As Damian stepped out of the kitchen for a moment, Virgil went back into forming the tortillas, setting them aside and waited until Damian would come cook them. They had already cooked twenty, which was a lot, but had separated five each for the both of them, leaving ten for the other guys. Now, why was there three missing from Virgil’s pile?
Virgil frowned, knowing he counted his and got a bit annoyed. He was annoyed someone was grabbing his tortillas, but he didn’t see who also. The next time, he would catch them.
It was now a Wednesday, and Virgil’s classes were cancelled, and was finishing the left over maza. Not only was he home, so was Roman who decided to stay home. Virgil set aside the finished cook tortillas, walking to the living room to rest.
This time, he practically had his ear standing up and listening. He watched tv, slightly distracted but did his best to listen.
Roman tiptoed into the kitchen, smiling at the fresh, warm tortillas and unwrapped them and grabbed one. He, of course, screamed the moment he felt someone grab his wrist.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Virgil asks, staring at Roman and keeping a grip on his wrist.
“N-Nothing,” Roman laughs nervously and does his best to free himself, seeing as he was slightly stronger.
Virgil grabber his tortillas, keeping a tight hold on them, backing away. Roman stood up straight, staring at them and then at Virgil.
Was Logan surprised to hear screaming as he stepped in? No, he wasn’t. Was he surprised to see running around? Again, no. Now, was he surprised it was Virgil and Roman? No.
He was surprised when he saw it had to do about food, especially warm food seeing as a tortilla landed on his face. Of course he just stood there as it slid down to the floor and stared straight ahead.
“STOP EATING MY FUCKING TORTILLAS YOU IMBECILE!”
“Sorry, bro its a must eat situation!”
Patton pokes his head over him, seeing the situation and then at Logan.
“You good?”
“Never been better.”
Damian just laughs and records, ducking when one was thrown near his direction.
This little food fight ended when Logan grabbed Roman and Virgil by the back of their shirts, both forgetting his stupidly strong and likes to work out. Roman apologizes for stealing the food, and Virgil apologizes for threatening death.
Virgil always makes sure to make extra extra tortillas, but now he also just locks up his in his room.
They’re his tortillas, and yes he would fight over them again.
