Everything You Need To Know About Writing Gunshot Wounds
Tumblr media
Welcome to the latest installment in my ongoing series on crafting realistic wounds in fiction! After covering stab wounds and burns, it's time to explore the next wound category frequently explored in fiction—gunshot wounds.
Gunshot wounds are a recurring motif in the realm of storytelling. They're something you can easily come across in every genre, however, authors often poorly portray gunshot wounds due to lack of proper research. I understand finding the right resources to aid with your writing can be hard, so here's my comprehensive guide on how to write gunshot wounds.
How To Categorise Gunshot Wounds
There are certain factors you need to consider before writing a gunshot wound. These details are instrumental in crafting a vivid and plausible narrative while avoiding plot holes. The first and most important one is identifying the type of firearm used to inflict the wound.
Picking The Right Firearm
Selecting the appropriate firearm to inflict a gunshot wound is a pivotal decision. It's not just about choosing any gun; it's about picking the right one to align with your desired outcome and the narrative's overall impact. Here's a quick guide on how to pick the right firearm.
The Impact of Firearm Selection
The firearm you choose can significantly influence the severity and appearance of the gunshot wound. Whether your goal is a graphic, gory injury or a precise, long-range shot, the choice of firearm plays a crucial role. Here are some guns you to consider:
Handguns: These are versatile and commonly used in close-quarters combat. They can result in gruesome, close-contact wounds with a higher potential for damage due to their stopping power.
Shotguns: Shotguns disperse shot pellets upon firing, making them suitable for creating a broader pattern of injuries. If you aim to depict a devastating, close-range gunshot wound, shotguns can be a fitting choice.
Rifles: Rifles are known for their accuracy at longer distances. When you need a precise, long-range shot, rifles are the go-to option. They tend to produce a cleaner wound channel, especially when used for a targeted, well-planned injury.
Choosing the Right Firearm for Your Narrative
The type of firearm you select should align with your story's objectives. If you intend to evoke visceral, gory reactions, opt for handguns or shotguns used in close proximity. On the other hand, if precision and long-range engagement are key, rifles can achieve your desired outcome.
Keep in mind that firearm selection can affect the wound's damage, trajectory, and overall portrayal in your narrative.
Categorising The Wound
Once you've identified the type of firearm, you need to establish what type of wound your character will incur.
In order to bring your character's injuries to life, it's important to first identify what you're dealing with. You can do this by categorising the injury based on several factors. For gunshot wounds, this includes the type of firearm used, the bullet's trajectory, and the specific areas of the body affected.
You can categorise your character's gunshot would into seven main categories, here's a quick breakdown of what these categories look like and the level of severity associated with them:
Penetrating Gunshot Wounds: These wounds occur when a bullet enters the body but doesn't exit. The bullet remains inside the body, causing damage along its path.
Perforating Gunshot Wounds: In this case, the bullet enters the body and exits on the opposite side. This type of wound can have a different set of implications due to the bullet's trajectory.
Ricochet Gunshot Wounds: Ricochet wounds happen when the bullet bounces off a surface before hitting the character. The nature of the surface can influence the severity of the wound.
Through-and-Through Gunshot Wounds: As the name suggests, these wounds occur when the bullet enters one side of the body and exits through the other. The trajectory can greatly affect the injury's severity.
Close-Contact Gunshot Wounds: These wounds result from the firearm being fired at extremely close range. The proximity of the gun to the body can lead to unique wound patterns and burn injuries.
Shotgun Wounds: Shotgun wounds differ from those caused by handguns or rifles. The shot pellets disperse upon firing, leading to a broader pattern of injury.
Long-Range Gunshot Wounds: When a character is shot from a considerable distance, the wound might appear different due to factors like bullet tumbling and loss of velocity.
The Anatomy of a Gunshot Wound
To create a vivid portrayal of a gunshot wound, writers need to grasp not only the external appearance but also the internal effects it has on the body. A well-executed description captures both the physical trauma and the emotional turmoil experienced by the character. Here are some symptoms you should take into consideration.
1. External Appearance and Bleeding:
Wound Size: The size of a gunshot wound can vary significantly based on the type of firearm and bullet used. Smaller calibers may leave entry and exit wounds that are relatively small, while larger bullets or high-velocity rounds can create much larger wounds. Be specific about the size, which can help readers visualize the injury.
Blood Loss: Gunshot wounds typically result in bleeding. The severity of bleeding depends on factors like the wound's location, the size of the blood vessels damaged, and the bullet's trajectory. Mention the amount of blood, but avoid excessive gore unless it serves a specific purpose in your narrative.
Coughing Up Blood: If the gunshot wound affects the chest or lung area, characters may cough up blood. This symptom often signifies a more critical injury and can add drama to your story.
2. Internal Damage and Symptoms:
Pain: Gunshot wounds are painful, and the character should express this pain through their actions, dialogue, and internal thoughts. Describe the sharp, burning, or throbbing sensations as they resonate through the character's body.
Shock: Depending on the severity of the wound, shock can set in. The character may appear pale, sweaty, and disoriented. This state of shock can impact their actions and decisions.
Loss of Function: A gunshot wound may impair the use of the injured body part. Describe any loss of function, such as the inability to move a limb or use it effectively.
Fainting: In extreme cases, characters may faint due to the pain, blood loss, or shock. Be sure to contextualize this within the narrative, as fainting can have significant consequences for the character.
By diving into the details of a gunshot wound's anatomy, you can craft a compelling and realistic portrayal that draws readers into the character's harrowing experience. I haven't exactly covered every symptom out there, but these are the major ones you should take into account when writing.
Medical Assessment and Treatment
Once you've established your gunshot wound, it's now time to focus on the aftermath. One of the main factors to consider is the medical process that follows. If your character is supposed to die from the gunshot then you could probably skip this section, but if they're alive here are things you need to consider.
1. Initial Assessment:
Scene Safety: In a real-life scenario, safety is paramount. First responders will ensure the scene is secure before approaching the injured person. Consider factors like the presence of firearms, potential threats, and the safety of medical personnel.
ABCs of Assessment: Medical professionals follow the ABCs—Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. Writers can reflect this in their storytelling by highlighting the character's ability to breathe, cough, or speak after being shot.
Vital Signs: Mentioning vital signs like heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation can help convey the character's condition and the urgency of their medical treatment.
2. Trauma Assessment:
Focused Assessment: Medical personnel perform a thorough examination to identify the gunshot wound's location, entry and exit points, and any associated injuries. This assessment informs their treatment plan.
Imaging: Depending on the complexity of the injury, X-rays or other imaging may be required to visualize the bullet's trajectory and any potential damage to internal organs or bones.
3. Treatment:
Bleeding Control: Stopping the bleeding is a top priority. This may involve applying pressure, packing the wound, or even tourniquet application in extreme cases.
Wound Care: Depending on the wound's severity, cleaning and suturing may be required. The character's response to this procedure can add an element of realism to your narrative.
Pain Management: Gunshot wounds are excruciatingly painful, and medical personnel will often administer pain relief or anesthesia during treatment.
Monitoring and Observation: Patients with gunshot wounds require careful observation and monitoring for signs of infection, complications, or changes in their condition.
By accurately portraying the medical assessment and treatment of gunshot wounds, you not only enhance the authenticity of your writing but also depict the physical and emotional toll such injuries can take on your characters. This attention to detail helps your readers connect more deeply with the story.
The Psychological Impact
Gunshot wounds don't just inflict physical harm; they also leave lasting emotional and psychological scars. It is important to note that the extent of the psychological impact on your characters will heavily rely on various factors.
For example, you need to consider whether or not this injury is something normal for them. Do they work as a spy, assassin, or other such roles that would mandate such dangerous injuries? You also need to consider who shot them. Does this wound come with emotional damage as well? Think of Aaron Warner’s reaction to Juliet shooting him.
If you’re sure your character will have some extent of a psychological impact, here are some factors you should consider.
1. Shock and Denial:
Immediate Response: Characters who have been shot may initially experience shock and denial. This can manifest as disbelief, emotional numbness, or a surreal sense of detachment from the situation.
Physical Symptoms: Shock can lead to physical symptoms like trembling, chills, or even fainting. Incorporating these details can make the character's reaction more genuine.
2. Fear and Anxiety:
Survivor's Guilt: Characters may grapple with survivor's guilt if they are the only ones to emerge unscathed in a violent encounter.
Anxiety: The threat of recurrence or the fear of returning to the location where the shooting occurred can trigger anxiety and panic attacks.
3. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD):
Flashbacks and Nightmares: Characters who have survived a gunshot wound may experience recurring flashbacks and nightmares, vividly reliving the traumatic event.
Hypervigilance: PTSD can lead to hypervigilance, where characters are constantly on edge, expecting danger at every turn.
4. Depression and Isolation:
Emotional Withdrawal: Characters may withdraw from social interactions, experiencing feelings of isolation and sadness.
Emotional Numbness: Some may describe feeling emotionally numb, unable to experience joy or pleasure.
5. Recovery and Resilience:
Therapeutic Support: In your storytelling, consider how characters seek therapy or counseling to cope with their emotional scars. Therapy can be a path toward recovery and resilience.
By addressing the psychological impact of gunshot wounds on your characters, you create more layered and relatable individuals within your narrative. This depth allows readers to connect with the characters on a profound emotional level.

𝕾𝖆𝖓𝖙𝖆 𝕸𝖚𝖊𝖗𝖙𝖊: 𝔖𝔞𝔦𝔫𝔱 𝔬𝔣 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔇𝔢𝔞𝔱𝔥 𝔞𝔫𝔡 𝔊𝔬𝔡𝔡𝔢𝔰𝔰 𝔬𝔣 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔇𝔢𝔞𝔡
When it comes to death, there are many variations of gods that come to our mind from different cultures, since this process is an inevitable and crucial part of all our lives notwithstanding our ethnicity, race, social status, religious beliefs, etc.
Most of us heard about one such deity: Santa Muerte, who is commonly known as a folk saint and is closely associated with Mexican el Día de Muertos or Day of the Dead. Usually she is depicted as a skeleton with traditional feminine features, long hair, flower wreath and in a bright dress.
Despite her status among Spanish Catholics, the catholic church doesn’t accept her as an official saint since some other figures play this role in catholicism, as well as Santa Muerte’s eerie connections with witchcraft and narco cartels don’t quite fit Christian morals.
But what do we know about the origin of the Mother of Death?
Tumblr media
Origin
Although Santa Muerte is an unofficial catholic saint, her roots are more complex than they seem and aren’t limited by her status among Spanish Catholics.
There are a few main theories of where Santa Muerte comes from:
Aztec death deity Mictecacihuatl
Figure of Grim Reaper during Black Death
African death goddesses
And more others.
But there is no general agreement on which one is true. It can be confusing, but at the same time, it allows us to analyze and define the truth for ourselves.
Still there is one most popular theory which is related to Aztec beliefs.
Aztec death goddess
As we know, Santa Muerte has the most popularity in Mexico. From the history overview, the Valley of Mexico was earlier the Aztec home before the conquest of this land by the Spanish in the early 16th century.
Before Mexican el Día de Muertos, the Aztecs had their own celebration connected to several death gods: Mictecacihuatl and Mictlantecuhtli. Few principal gods were represented as female (Mictecacihuatl) and male (Mictlantecuhtli) embodiments of death and rulers of Mictlan (underworld).
!For the remark: they are not the only ones, there was goddess Tonantzin as well, but she is related to the other catholic figure.
One of the theories is that Mictecacihuatl and Santa Muerte are the same deity because the Spanish had to accept some Aztec customs due to their cooperation. Also, Mictecacihuatl was a dominant death deity in the Aztec pantheon, so it was important to save her figure even under a different name.
Tumblr media
Many faces of Mother of Death
Apart from Santa Muerte’s grim image and direct relation to death, she is patient with the newbies and her devotees and has a pleasant presence and nurturing nature.
Like all deities, Lady of Death is versatile and can be both gentle and destructive. Don’t be surprised to learn that she has a strong connection with drug traffickers and many of them honour this goddess so she gives them protection and prosperity.
Another feature is that Mother of Death accepts all people since death doesn’t care about your social status, sexual orientation, colour of skin, gender, and any other things. She is a protector of those who are rejected by society and helps them to stay safe and find their way in life.
But you need to keep in mind that she should be respected as any other deity and she won’t forgive your ignorance or rudeness towards her.
Tumblr media
How to start working with Santa Muerte
As many of us know, it is important to understand which aspects have certain deities when we start working with them. It helps us to figure out for what purposes we can contact them.
Santa Muerte is an universal goddess who has keys to the many doors on our paths. It is no wonder, because death is ever-present and has power over all.
When you decide that you would like to ask Santa Muerte for something, you should define your request and reach out to one of her seven colours or aspects.
!However, if you aren’t sure which colour is right, it is fine to reach out to Santa Muerte without referring to a certain aspect of her.
Tumblr media
The Seven Colors of Santa Muerte
I will give a short guide of her seven colours, so it will be easier to define which aspect is most suitable for your problem or situation.
Niña Blanca, White Santa Muerte
Protection, cleansing, renewal, starting new projects, healing, opening new paths, punishing enemies.
Niña Violeta, Purple Santa Muerte
Magic, secret knowledge, wisdom, spiritual growth, clairvoyance, divination.
Niña Azul, Blue Santa Muerte
Partnerships, social life, human interactions (she can both harmonize and destroy relationships).
Niña Dorada, Golden Santa Muerte
Money, wealth, prosperity, fate, luck (as well as lack of money, poverty and bad luck for enemies).
Niña Roja, Red or Pink Santa Muerte
Romantic relationships, love, lust, attracting a partner (it is possible to punish unfaithful partners with Red Santa Muerte’s help).
Niña Verde, Green Santa Muerte
Winning legal cases, justice, defining truth, protection from criminals, imprisoning someone, making someone commit illegal acts, endanger someone to be robbed or assaulted.
Niña Negra, Black Santa Muerte
Neutralizing curses, malevolent spirits, ending bad luck or all kinds of problems, protection, spiritual transformations, harming enemies.
Tumblr media
Associations
Planetary aspects:
Moon and Saturn (but it can vary depending on the aspect)
Plants:
Rose, rosemary, syrian rye, tobacco, marigolds, aloe

Sorry for the random asks, I just get random thoughts.
If the Wobbly Hearts AU Ninja were in a band AU who would be doing/playing what?
-froginninjago
bro ur asks are fun so this works out HGLKSJDF
Okay, i had to think a bit hard on this one but here we go
Jay - Lead Guitar: Bro has some wild speed which would be dope for shredding amazing for finger picking, this, ofc, is in reference to his elemental power of lightning. I'd think he can play several different types of guitars ranging from a standard electric to the banjo. He also likes to be front and centre a lot of the time and absolutely thrives off of attention so guitar solos would really give him a chance to shine. I imagine he'd play with a speed similar to this guy though likely not with that type of guitar
Kai - Bass guitar/backup vocalist: I'd actually give Kai the bass cause it's criminally underrated (like kai in the show it feels like sometimes) and it kinda lends itself to the fact his character ends up being more of a supporting role (specifically to Lloyd in the show) in the background rather than the main protagonist. He's extremely skilled in a way that not a lot of people notice, an avid bass defender and hype man and only slightly annoyed that Jay has more fans than him. He likely posts lots of bass shredding vids online
Cole - Drums: I mean come on you had to have seen this coming. I know it almost feels basic to put him but it fits so WELL. He's the one who keeps the team on track in the show and on beat in the band. He's so steady and consistent that it kinda blends together and you forget he's there sometimes. He's the one band member who can go out in public and not a single person will recognize him and he's cool with that. He has an amazing voice and could easily be a lead singer but he's content where he is. He's wildly skilled on the drums and I imagine people would start taking notice in him when he has like a drum solo that happens and its kinda like how Jay is crazy on the guitar he'd be outrageous like this dude
Lloyd - Lead Vocals/drums: Lloyd's currently learning drums from Cole and he's having a lot of fun with them. (a nod to my hc of Cole teaching Lloyd how to lead in the show.) He has the best voice out of the group with an INSANE range in his vocals. He can go from more like straight up angelic sounding to like hardcore screaming and so he's pretty versatile. (A nod to his oni/dragon sides.) He doesn't enjoy singing as much as he does drumming but he's good at it so he doesn't mind being the lead. Though he's not a huge fan of his fans. They're a little crazy. If you want to see him smile ask him to play the drums for you, he gets really winded and is always grinning with his hair a complete mess afterwards. He gets a lot of dopamine from da drums. He also enjoys helping Nya out with writing their lyrics
Nya - Stage Manager(previous)/Backup Guitarist/Second Lead Vocal/Songwriter: Nya is pretty versatile in what she can do. She knows the basics of base, is a pretty solid contender for lead guitar, she's also learning drums from Cole alongside Lloyd. She used to handle the behind the scenes stuff at some point before she actually joined the band. Her ability to both carve out her own place and easily fill in for the other's if they need to tap out lends itself to her element power of water something something. I kinda think of Walk Off the Earth with their two lead vocalists and how their voices blend together really well and the harmonies are really nice for how Nya and Lloyd would sound together. She also has a huge hand in writing the bands songs obviously. Kai did a lot of the lyrics for a while but he's not the most creative person. The whole band kinda has a hand in writing and its a group effort but Nya's usually the one leading it
Pixal - Stage Manager (current): I'm thinking Pixal used to be like, a solo act for a while or something? I dunno I actually couldn't get many ideas for her. But a soloist songwriter and maybe singer and she eventually retired from that and runs things behind the scenes for the band, booking stuff, getting transport, she's great at her job and the whole band loves and appreciates her, Kai regularly dramatically falls across her lap to ask "What would we do without you?" when she hands him a juice box after a set. She also handles the technology (with some assistance from Nya and sometimes Zane) and any more digital sounds they want added to their music
Zane - oh screw it, it's gotta be violin doesn't it??: come on just listen to his Falcon Chase song what else would he play??? All his songs in this show are literally strings!!! Cello, viola, violin, fiddle. i imagine he's classically trained in a lot of the bow + stringed instruments. I'm thinking Lindsey Stirling type playing probably or something. It lends itself to his controlled but emotional?? way of dealing with stuff? You can get a wide range of emotion from these types of instruments and he knows how to pull at your heartstrings (get it cause strings instrument--[gets hit with a chair])
Am i well versed enough in music to know if all these instruments would work well together? No, no i am not. But the concepts are cool and I guess i can be a lil silly goofy with it

Oshi No Ko Episode 16 Review - Fated Rivals
I really liked this episode! It really made me excited for the stage play and what’s next for Akane’s character as a whole! I also can’t wait to see Melt get his redemption arc after being constantly being poked fun of being the weakest link in the stage play rehearsals! Yeah, show that creep Sakuya what you can do!
Tumblr media
The first part of this episode is the aftermath of Aqua staying over at Gotanda’s house. Akane shows off her cooking skills and Gotanda’s mom demands Aqua to not fumble with her. Afterwards, Akane gets a special privilege of seeing Aqua’s past roles. He acted in several small films when he was in elementary school, but his emotional acting has always caused him to have a panic attack. Akane could tell that Aqua’s acting was prepared in advance so that he wouldn’t have a breakdown during the filming. It also seems that while Aqua doesn’t think he’s a good actor, Gotanda believes otherwise. Aw.
Tumblr media
This is where Akane makes me start thinking some things. Aqua tells Akane that he became an actor to murder someone. She reacts in a way that’s very unsettling. Her eyes lose their glimmer, her pupils dilate and she tells Aqua that she’d help with the murder. The reason why this scene got me thinking is because of why she has this side. Did she always have this side? Was it something that awakened within her when she got flamed during the reality dating show? Was it something that she always had but it didn’t awaken until that whole ordeal transpired? It makes you think about these things and I find this scene and Akane fascinating because of it. She’s clearly more unhinged than Aqua and makes him look like a chunnibyou compared to her yandere visage and remarks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other than her hidden psychopath side, Akane also has a fierce rivalry with Kana which had been established back in the first season, but made even more apparent here. Their rivalry may be due to their mutual affections for Aqua, but it’s also because of how Kana is frustrated with how Akane stole her title as a child actress prodigy and how Akane is frustrated with how Kana is so harsh towards her because of it. I love how their rivalry is portrayed. They both love acting, but have different styles. While they clash, they have a begrudging respect for each other. Yes, this is how rivalries should be like! I love the scene where Kana pokes fun of Akane by revealing that Akane was influenced by Kana to become an actress. This is why Megumi Han’s my favorite voice actress; she’s just so versatile that it’s insane! Then, they jab at each other by exposing their dark histories—for Kana, it was her Bell Pepper Exercises and the reality dating show for Akane. I also loved the scene where they draw their weapons towards each other and then Himekawa gets into the action by brandishing his sword towards Aqua who just stares at him with a cold look. The way the blade reflects his eye was such beautiful shot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, there is one scene in this episode I didn’t like. It’s the one where Sakuya shows up and tries hitting on Minami. He’s 22 years old while she’s 16. I remember when the first season was airing last year, there was this rather known anime Twitter influencer who called Aqua a white f***boy; they’re incorrect because the true f-boy in this story is Sakuya. He tried hitting on Minami, got angry with Melt for getting in the way, and even got Ruby’s contact information, which got Kana and Mem-cho wary. You know he’s bad news when Mem-cho is telling her to be careful. Ruby, girl, have some awareness! Aqua would easily add another murder target if he found out about this.
Speaking of Ruby, I do find it interesting how she trusts Aqua in a way. While she was behind the door and didn’t see the moment Ai died, it still affected her mentally. She’s just better at hiding it than Aqua because Aqua took the brunt of most of the psychological trauma. The way the star in her eye became dark when she knew Aqua would never get a teenage girl pregnant was very somber. She knew what Ai went through and she knows Aqua does too hence why she doesn’t like the notion that Aqua and Akane might be doing lewd things together.
It’s nice to see familiar faces as the day of the stage play arrives. GOA and Abiko are now on good terms. The reality dating show people came to visit with Memcho greeting them; Yuki and the guy she was paired with are officially dating, but are keeping it a secret. Gotanda and Miyako show up too. I do wonder who else are going to be there. I honestly can’t wait to see what the stage play as in store because given how amazing the animation has been for these past few episodes, I know Doga Kobo will go all out with it. What are your thoughts?

Jawan (2023) Spoiler Review
I urge anyone and everyone to watch it because it is so much fun from beginning to end. Also, SRK is just ugggghhh so damn hot.
Spoilers from here on out.
Alright, let me get this out of the way first: the movie was very massy and I loved it. That said, I wasn't completely blown away by the story and delivery because I'm up to my eyeballs in south Indian mass movies.
Now, there are people who look down on very massy action films. They think it's inferior or not nuanced enough. Some like only certain mass films and think that the ones they like are the superior kind of mass movies. If you're that kind of person, we're gonna have problems.
One, Jawan isn't a mindblowing film BUT it is undeniably a fun film with lots of exciting action, a good and tight storyline, and good songs.
SRK is SRK. There's a reason fans call him King Khan. His charisma is off the charts. He is great as Azad and absolutely breathtaking and unforgettable as Vikram Rathore. I am serious about the unforgettable part. I fear that his next characters, especially if they're older guys, will be compared to the legend Vikram Rathore. I almost wish Atlee would make a sequel because I want to see Vikram again, in his silver fox era, going on missions with his team (and his son somewhere there).
I wasn't really surprised with the DILF in this movie because I do think Atlee has some daddy issues. If you've seen his older movies like Mersal and Bigil, you might have noticed that the dad characters are given banger bgms and better entry scenes (Vetrimaaran and Rayappan, respectively). Vijay's title card in Mersal was Vetrimaaran's theme, while the title card in Bigil has Rayappan's theme/BGM. But Atlee killed them off in those two movies, so he subverted his own tropes in Jawan (THANK GOD BECAUSE WE WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN VIKRAM RATHORE OTHERWISE - sorry, I will not shut up about Vikram okay).
The Girls. Who doesn't love the women of Jawan? Seriously. They absolutely made me giddy with excitement. One, because they were awesome, and we so their backstories and how loyal they were to Azad, and how Azad loved them and was loyal to them, too. Also, that time they called him because he was in the biggest fight of his life (WEDDING NIGHT)! That was honestly the cutest shit ever. If you saw Bigil, Atlee was gunning for that, too, but Bigil is more tamed seeing as it is a sports movie.
Nayanthara and Deepika as they love interests are really good. I was so sad when I learned Aishwarya's fate (shoutout to Atlee who *also* named the mom here Aishwarya -- they're both strong, amazing women). Nayanthara is so damn good and so damn cool (but I am biased towards Jayam Ravi/Nayanthara pairing lmao).
That Sanjay Dutt cameo! Oh, man, I laughed and clapped! I had such a ball of a time. And the revelation that they were friends and he had been helping him all along! Aaaaaah, so satisfying to see honestly. Atlee, why don't you make this a series? I wanna see more of all of them.
Now, on to some things that didn't feel so satisfying to me:
I have seen Vijay Sethupathi play the villain role several times. His performance as Bhavani in Master and Vedha in Vikram Vedha (2017) are tough to beat. It's also really difficult not to compare his performance in Jawan to his performance in those two films because I had such high expectations (yes, I know, my fault a little bit). I feel like his charisma that he usually brings to the table was only seen in small parts, bits and pieces. So, that felt a little bit underwhelming.
Okay, so I like the songs! Anirudh has shown how versatile he is in producing different song genres (but currently movies and fans expect hero-elevation music from him, and that is completely understandable). But I couldn't pinpoint Vikram or Azad's main theme or main bgm. I'm recalling all the Bollywood movies I've watched over the years, and perhaps this isn't a thing in Bollywood films? (Again, if you think having specific bgm for the hero's entry or badass moment is corny, this review isn't for you, sorry, I'm into that shit, I grew up on anime). I know there's a bgm for Azad's entry at the jail and there's literally a song called Vikram Rathore but they just didn't stand out much. You can, of course, argue that SRK doesn't need bgms to elevate him to god-like status. That's true. This is just a me thing, as someone who looks forward to such bgms in mass movies from the south.
OK, I didn't think my review would be this long. I just had many thoughts while watching Jawan. Anyway, like I said, this one is a total banger of a movie. SRK is an absolute joy to watch! What an amazing performer and actor!

NRC basketball team roster
(As depicted in my fic, Aquarium)
Okay, first of all, I'm really glad I planned for this chapter to take at least 2 weeks from the start, because yesterday I managed to fuck up my knee a little, so my mental energy goes to worrying about it and my physical energy goes towards stretching and working my knee to make sure the bones don't again try to misalign themselves and the joint remains decently pain-free. Definitely didn't need the added stress of "damn, I should be writing", haha.
Anyway, this list has tiny little spoilers, most of which likely won't become apparent until the chapter is published, but I'm warning you just in case.
---
Nima - (unofficial) coach, former center
Savanaclaw, junior. In his last proper year at school he took over the coaching position (because who else is going to do that, Vargas? No thank you). Has a little too much energy and enthusiasm and not enough understanding of the limits of a normal human body. Hopes for Jamil to take over the coach role next year.
3 - Egil - shooting guard
Pomefiore, sophomore. Despite different positions, Gideon's unofficial protege. Everyone is quite unsure if there's something going on between them or if Pomefiore is just Like That. Depending on team composition sometimes plays as a forward, but is not very comfortable in any playmaking role, prefers to defer tactical decisions to others.
5 - Jamil - point guard
Scarabia, sophomore. While versatile about the position he plays in, prefers to stay to the back line to direct his team's play and make long shots from behind the three-pointer line. One of the highest-scoring members of the team.
10 - Floyd - center
Octavinelle, sophomore. Dunk shots are his bread and butter, but he surprisingly enjoys the defense, too - especially when it allows him to bully other players under the basket. In official matches tends to get removed from the court for rule violations way before the end of the game, which annoys him to no end.
11 - Ace - shooting guard
Heartslabyul, freshman. Pretty good at most technical things and able to play a variety of positions, but tends to be impulsive and make rash decisions that lead to mistakes. Has a special talent for provoking the opposing team to foul on him.
13 - Bertram - point guard
Diasomnia, freshman. A bird beastman of generally quiet disposition, though allows himself to express himself more on the court. Tends to be in a (mostly) friendly competition with Ace as a fellow freshman.
17 - Gideon - center/power forward
Pomefiore, junior. The second half of the "rituals are intricate" Pomefiore duo. Tall but lanky, prefers playing forward but often has to sub in for Floyd as center if Floyd breaks the rules too many times.
18 - Mosi - shooting guard
Savanaclaw, junior. In his freshman year he didn't make it into the spelldrive club, and might be still a little bitter about it, but mostly is determined to prove his worth as a basketball player. Has a temper problem on par with Floyd - sometimes they cancel each other out, sometimes the opposite.
22 - Ludwig - small forward
Octavinelle, junior. One of the more versatile players on the team, though he's mainly been playing as forward since his sophomore year when he bulked up. Unlike many others, finds strategy and tactics discussions at practice fascinating.
25 - Ryder - small forward
Scarabia, junior. Compensates for his short stature with almost unnatural speed and jump height. Has been having some problems with discipline and being a team player for the last several months - actually, since winter break. Wonder why that might be.
31 - Jay - power forward
Savanaclaw, sophomore. Accident prone. Didn't train for several months of his freshman year due to a concussion sustained during History class, refuses to elaborate on the details.

How do you reply to the ai bot? Is it like basic role-playing kind of thing? Are there rules to follow? Everything I've gone to look my kind goes blank on what to do 🥺🥺
yeah i just roleplay w it!! here are a few examples of how i reply to the bot, with and without dialogue :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i’ve noticed the bots tend to respond really well when you use your replies as opportunities to establish context and details and whatnot. sometimes when i don’t know what to say i’ll just reply with a quote but usually i try to get some expository in there, especially because the bots have a tendency to mimic how you speak to them, so if you want longer replies with more detail, that’s def a good start !!! :)
there are no rules tho! talk to your bots however u please!! i’ve seen them mimic several different roleplay styles, they’re very versatile and surprisingly good at picking up on context and such :)
let me know if u need more help babe!!!!

I've seen several peoplerefer to Wario as an evil opposite of Mario. But it occurs to me that Mario is deliberately kept as an audience insert with his personality being minimal. Whilst Wario himself has a very well defined personality. So that leads me to wonder: If you were to reverse engineer Mario's personality from "Wario is Mario's evil Opposite", what would Mario's personality be?
Tumblr media
The same as it is now? Which is sorta Wario’s personality or at least general life, but selfless and more straightforward heroic and friendly and humble, toned down several notches and tailored to fit a much less confrontational and verbal character, who’s supposed to be a versatile all-purpose hero and cartoon mascot instead of a loud and stinky hyperactive crayon doodle anti-hero/villain.
Wario isn't really Mario's evil opposite: if anything that's probably just something he plays up on occasion because it's-a good for business, like this post argues: if he was just some guy, nobody would buy WarioWare. I argued before that Wario basically just does everything Mario already does, but taken to comically gross and brutish extremes. It's in everything from his design to gameplay, even to his worldbuilding. He's not so much Mario's Evil Opposite as he's Mario's Gross Cartoon Bully Mirror: closer to the likes of Bizarro and Lobo, characters notorious first and foremost for their over-the-top wacko personalities rather than any notable roles or stories, specifically because said over-the-top personality is their differential and what makes them appealing to have around.
He's not Mario But Evil, he's Mario But Wrong: he’s Dada Mario, perfect as a vehicle for comedic cartoon brutality and parody and taking potshots at his rival or videogames at large. A character with such a strong personality and hook, it’s a no-brainer to build adventures around his troubles and trials and pigbrained ideas. Charles Martinet touched a little on the differences between playing the two, how Wario gets to be a funny stinker contrasting Mario as a purely good guy, but Mario in turn has a levity of expression and carefree spiritedness that the cantankerous Wario cannot have.
When you’re acting as Wario, does it feel any different than playing Mario? Like there are less rules, or more creative freedom? Can you cut loose a little more? Charles: *laughs* Well, sure, yeah, because he can be a little… he’s just *Wario’s voice* “Yeah, I’m a stinker! Hah-hah-hah! *raspberries*”.
He gets to play and be silly, whereas Mario is *Mario’s voice* “Okie-dokie! I’m a really sweet-a guy! I’m the nice-a man, I love-a the princess, woo-hoo!” You know, it’s a very different sort of job.
But, the Mario energy is so free-flowing, it comes up from the ground, and flies into the air while Wario, he’s going *Wario voice ‘Oh, I’m frustrated! I’m gonna get this next time! I’ll get you! I’m-a gonna win!”
But it’s never so serious, as to be a harmful sort of energy, you know what I mean? That, I think, goes back to Mr. Miyamoto’s belief and my belief that the characters are fun, they’re playful, even in the sort of flaws of their personality.
Even back in his earliest days, he wasn't really evil (or even Bowser-tier evil) so much as he was a weird rival to Mario, an obnoxious brute who got in everyone's way whether he was taking over castles and forests with armies of monsters, or just sticking buckets in Mario's head so he'd have a bad day. Key to Wario’s success is that, as much as he was greatly developed further in the Wario Land and Wario Ware games, very little had to be changed about him to make him work as a protagonist. You kinda get Wario’s deal just by taking a cursory glance at him, even if you somehow don’t know who he’s a cartoon distortion of.
Tumblr media
(art by futuristicghost)
The main change was that Wario’s grudge with Mario was downplayed in favor of a supreme arrogance that made him vastly more fun to watch in general (even though he’s never had any games proper, the same thing happened with Waluigi, and his shift from scowling scheming loser to dancing vanity weirdo loser), and also showed how much Mario was unnecessary for Wario’s adventures. He never really stopped being a party-crashing bad guy, we just got more used to him. WarioWare’s been around for 20 years now, and he’s still the closest thing that series has to a bad guy, even though he’s also the main character and everyone’s boss. Wario’s strong personality is his selling point and the reason why they gave him games of his own, it's a compelling feature to build narratives and puzzles and fun around.
It’s one of the main contrasts between him and Mario: Mario is built to fit his games, Wario’s games are built to fit him. He is much more well-defined than Mario partially because he was designed by an effort to make Mario more interesting than just someone who goes around saving princesses and doing things for other people: He was designed by developers who were fed up with the Mario formula and wanted to try something new, something that gave Mario more agency and character and possessions of his own to fight back for: it’s not for nothing that, if he is to be the dark mirror, if he is what Mario cannot be, Wario thus has to be epitome of selfishness and greed.
The team still desired to provide Mario with a new objective, rather than fighting to rescue the princess as seen in most Mario games leading up to that time.
The game's staff wanted a "change of pace", and decided that Mario should fight to win back something that belongs to him, rather than fighting for "someone else's benefit" - Development on Super Mario Land 2
It’s part of the problem with trying to reverse engineer a reading of Mario’s personality through Wario: Wario’s design is built around spitting on Mario, you’re gonna be working with too strong a bias. Even his very first appearence was built around this: he was stealing Mario’s castle because of jealousy and spite (and not unjustified, going by supplemental comics that showed Mario treating Wario very poorly) over Mario having everything he wanted (Mario never owned castles before or after this, Wario’s theft might as well be punishment for this particular instance of hubris), and they never really dropped the idea that Wario has some kind of unknown childhood beef with Mario that may, or may not, be justified or true.
It’s part of why Wario on his own kinda makes for a lousy villain for Mario specifically: Beating up Bowser makes Mario a hero, while beating up Wario just makes him look petty and even mean (the Camelot cutscenes get around this by making Wario part of a comedy duo with Waluigi, and making it so they’re never really beaten so much as humiliated in karmic fashion for being such meanies, and most of the time the heroes don’t even know they are up to anything). It’s why Wario tends to make for a much better villain to, say, Toad and Wanda, or the WarioWare cast sometimes. On his own as a main villain, he kinda makes Mario look bad in a way that makes Wario less fun and doesn’t really say much of anything about Mario or does anything interesting with him.
He IS the worst of Mario, running rampant throughout the land, and when you get past Wario, Mario’s worst just isn’t that interesting. Yeah yeah, Donkey Kong Jr, the Power Tennis trophy scene, we’ve all sat through those, fuck off MatPat, Bad Mario is a boring idea used by boring people to make boring arguments or stories, the path-of-least resistance to try and make Mario an interesting character. Wario is as good as that idea is ever gonna get, and the absolute best thing they ever did to him was divorce him from Mario and his role as Mario’s Rival and let him exist on his own wacky worlds and games where he’s got nothing to prove and everything to take. Lets him be versatile in ways Mario can’t be, which is a necessary niche to have when Mario’s versatility is so central to what makes him one of the most successful characters ever.
Tumblr media
Mario as a character borrows that design philosophy of early 20th century cartoon mascots like Bugs Bunny and yes his inspiration Popeye, of strong designs and catchy personalities left just vague enough that they can be, do or go whatever and wherever you need them to, but with at least one or more hooks to keep people interested. Mario’s is that, even without any dialogue, he looked completely unlike anyone’s preconception of what an adventure hero is supposed to look like (and still don’t, even though so much of videogames as a medium is build around Mario), which makes him an excellent character to throw into Alice in Wonderland weird fantasy realms, and with dialogue, he speaks in a ridiculous friendly falsetto (that was the diferential that got Martinet the role: instead of the Brooklyn gruff guy, he thought of a nice, jolly guy who he wouldn’t be miserable doing for nine hours a day) that is at odds, and in perfect synch, with the way he looks.
Mario is perpetually mismatched with his environment, and it’s part of why his games revolve around carefree exploration and obstacle courses through weird realms and impossible challenges: we want the little guy who shouldn’t be here to beat the odds, and we want to be the little guy who beats the odds. Mario consistently pulls off a pretty difficult trick of characterization where he’s both The Big Iconic Hero everyone looks up to as well as the clown underdog of every fight he’s in, because everything he faces is ten times his size and combat-ready in ways a funny plumber dude isn’t, and so the funny plumber dude goes on to prove himself without having to say much, and you can decide how he goes on about it, even make him shitty if you want to play around.
Videogames are a medium where non-verbal characters get to shine like nowhere else. The Mario RPGs tend to have the best characterization in the series by far (those, and the Camelot cutscenes) and they keep Mario silent even in instances he could be given lines: all the other characters are made better for having to do the heavy lifting with dialogue, bouncing off Mario, who’s holding the fort and giving them their cues. Mario’s made a better character by the fact that he doesn’t have to talk to make himself understood.
Tumblr media
(Mario art by Gemma Roman)
I don't think Mario is without personality, I think he has mostly an understated personality, which might be a funny word to use for someone who hoots and hollers cartwheeling all over the place. I think of Mario as a character very similar to Asterix (definitely a go-to reference point if I was gonna write Mario, and Obelix for Luigi too, you’d be surprised at how much they match), in the sense that he’s rarely gonna be the funniest or most dramatic character in any given scene (although he can do that, to surprising effect), he’s surrounded by so much goofy nonsense and such colorful personalities and such dramatic stakes, that having him contrast with those winds up being the best choice. Our hero is a tiny, loving, humble character, not without flaws or excesses, certainly not someone who’s beyond failing or stumbling before reaching the finish line or making a fool of himself, and who’s made better off for it. You need that contrast, you need that guiding point.
To bring things back around I’d say that’s another thing he contrasts and compares with Wario: Both of them are central characters built in ways that free up all the other characters to thrive by contrast. Wario's sheer force-of-personality forces everyone to react to him, which makes for great comedy, while Mario’s happy to let everyone else do the talking, which makes for a more immersive adventure, and both of which allow for good characterization. A small star be the one that shines brightest to guide all the others, or a big laughing black hole of chaos everyone’s being pulled into whether they like it or not.

Famous Cellists Throughout History
If you go down the history, you will find countless cellists have left an unforgettable mark on the musical landscape. Their mastery and innovation have shaped the instrument's role in various genres and styles. Let's take you through the energies and contributions of some of the most celebrated cellists ever. Read on!
The Pioneers of the Cello in the Baroque Era
The Baroque era saw the dawn of the cello. It witnessed the rise of the as a separate instrument with its stand. Several groundbreaking cellists helped to develop its music and playing style. Take a look -
Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741): Although Vivaldi was primarily famous as a violinist and composer, he composed considerable concertos for the cello. His compositions reflected the lyrical and virtuosic potential of the string. His works often feature innovative harmonies and rhythmic patterns that challenge the cellists with demanding technical passages.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Ah, my dear @cilil has tagged me, and I'll try to do at least one Tumblr thing today. I had hoped that I'd have more time this weekend!!! This week was madness...I swear!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
391 (and yes, I am one of those who put between 7 and 133 different ficlets into one work to keep the number of individual works down).
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,800,713 (this does not include 2 longfics I've orphaned and several fics I've posted anonymously)
(but I've been writing since July 2021)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Tolkien, roles played by Richard Armitage, roles played by Adam Brown, the odd Dean O'Gorman fic for @laurfilijames, 1 Lucifer fic...)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Tumblr Imagines (it's a collection of ficlets from when I started and has over 200k)
October 2022 Ficlet run (Yeah, as I said, I don't post all my fics separately)
Black (Local folkore meets The Hobbit retelling
Silm imagines and ficlets (Again, a 50k+ collection)
"The only way is up" or "thrice stuck" (Smutty dream sequence with Thorin)
These are mostly my first writings which had had time to amass some few kudos :D
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Always!
It takes me a while sometimes, but I need people to know how much I love and appreciate their support! I love every comment, and I truly wish I was a little better at expressing myself when it comes to these things <3
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I honestly do not remember...Probably, Love letter to the man you've never got to be.
I usually don't do much angst 😇
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Very hard to say because I don't finish too many of my long fics lol. I'd want to say Sticks and stones (Christmas Hallmark story)...it's just that kind of story.
My TRSBs are usually "Happy End given the circumstances" rather than all-out Happy End...lol
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Thus far, no.
I am not relevant or known enough to attract that kind of attention!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Me? No...(There have been spicy scenes in long fics, spicy fics, outrageous ficlets, Kinktober, Dead Dove December, MSV...Ok yeah, I do...and I do all of it. M/F, F/F, M/M, M/F/M...from vanilla to whips. You choose, I write)
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I am an AU bitch. I've done a HP drabble once...Les Mis/LOTR for last year's Christmas event...it happens...
Right now? Twilight Crack parody for a good friend :D
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so? Who would steal trash?
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nobody has ever approached me...
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes...Once for last year's S&D, I am doing it now for the Calendar fic...I love collaboration, what can I say?
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Ship-ship? Russingon.
OC ship? Ori x OC
Rarepair? Nerdanel x Anairë
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Black - It's one of my first fics...and I've never written that last chapter.
I am also known for having written chapters and chapters of other longfics but just...never posting them lol
16. What are your writing strengths?
I am fast, I am versatile, and I am willing to write almost any character, dynamic, ship, and genre. From tooth-rotting fluff to noncon. From very vanilla M/F meet-cute to kinky sex.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I am bad at punctuation. I rarely have an outline, I just write. I do not plan, I do not come up with complicated worldbuilding, I have exactly 0 HC documents.
I just write whatever comes to mind.
Moreover, I have a real problem with posting. I write A LOT more than I post...because I just can't motivate myself to reread LOL
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I avoid even Tolkien's languages for fear of getting something wrong. I am fluent in at least 3 other languages, but I am not entirely sure whether there would ever be a place for them.
If I did that, I am afraid that it would become incomprehensible as the only one I wouldn't use is my mother tongue. It would sound a bit...magniloquent...
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Tolkien. Only fandom thus far...
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
I don't know. Every so often, I write something I don't hate, but I can't remember right now loool
Open tag for everyone who hasn't done this yet :D
Tell me something about yourselves!

if you could choose a director you'd like to cast tzp in a project, who would you choose ? like not in the "most famous director" sense but in more of a "this" director's style would suit tzp a lot..who would you choose?
Hello dear ❤️
*nervous laughter*
I am not so sure I'm the right person to be asked this but I will try to answer honestly. I don't usually pick up on a directors style that easily, maybe because I mindlessly consume media and don't go in depth into the way a movie is made, who the directors are, if they made several other movies, whether all those movies have the same style. I don't know that many directors either.
I only notice a style when it is unprecedented (in a good way) for me. Like if the story, cinematography, music, story progression have profound effect on me. Even though there are different people who work on all of these, the directors play a significant part.
Over the years I did find some works that I liked. Even my mostly lazy brain took notice because their styles were so different from the rest. Such as Guillermo Del Toros work in Pacific Rim, Christopher Nolans (both as writer and as director, so amazingly sophisticated) work in The Prestige, George Millers work in Mad Max: Fury road. These are all brilliant films. And only in Nolans case can I say that I have watched more than one film.
I don't really have a specific Director in mind that I would want TZP to work with. Of course I would love it if he got to work with these people I mentioned. But there are so many other great filmmakers. Hopefully he gets to work with talented directors who are respectful towards actors and who he admires. Cord Jeffersons (directed American Fiction) name comes to mind as TZP mentioned him. Even though I'm not familiar with his work, I'd love it if TZP got to work with him. TZP mentioned liking the Bourne series several times too. And a new film in the franchise is set to be made with Edward Bergers name being mentioned as the director (he directed All quiet on the western front that won several oscars). If TZP were to be the next bourne (please lord) I'd be so so so happy. First off, I would love if TZP could do an action film (he'd rock it), second, he'd be working in a franchise that is loved by so many, thirdly, he would be living his dream.
I have only seen TZP do comedies - Red white and royal blue (which is kind of a dramedy but my point stands), KB2 and KB3, Embeds. So I definitely want him to work in project with different genre. And I'm sorry, I can't pick a Director to suit TZP, he is the actor here. He needs to suit the character/ script / directors style. All good actors are versatile and go out of their comfort zone to create a very realistic or authentic character. I would love it if he could play different types of roles. I hope this answers your question ❤️🙏

Screenrant and CBR have also now listed the "10 best Jenna Cleman movies and TV shows", saying the following about her:
Jenna Coleman is a diverse and talented actress who has showcased her skills in dramatic and comedic performances on film and television, as well as in theater.
Despite her successful run on Doctor Who, Coleman continues to be in high demand in the industry, with notable roles in projects like Netflix's The Sandman.
Coleman's standout performances include her work in Waterloo Road, Titanic, The Serpent, Klokkenluider, The Cry, Death Comes to Pemberley, Me Before You, The Sandman, Doctor Who, and Victoria.
Jenna Coleman is selective about her roles, but whenever she chooses to grace the screen, it's safe to say that this movie or show will be worth one's time. She is a diverse actress, and she has a lot to show for it. Having landed her first role at 19 years old, she might have started out relatively late in life, but her career speaks for itself. Dramatic and comedic performances in film and on television, incredible voice work, theater aspirations–Coleman has done it all, and by the looks of it, she is not planning to stop enamoring viewers with her acting anytime soon.
Her Doctor Who days may be long gone but that does not mean that Coleman is no longer wanted in the industry. At 37 years old, the English star is at the height of her career, as she is part of high-profile projects, such as Netflix's The Sandman where she portrayed occult detective Johanna Constantine just last year. Coleman's range as a dedicated performer and impressive resume that consists of a string of roles in successful movies and shows are undeniable evidence of her acting talent. However, some of her performances stand out just a little bit more than others.
Jenna Coleman has become one of Britain's greatest acting talents. The Doctor Who star has developed an impressive filmography since leaving the sci-fi series, appearing in several exciting movie and television projects. Her latest series, Wilderness, has recently debuted on Amazon Prime, prompting fans on IMDb to share which Coleman releases they consider to be her best work. These magnificent productions reflect Coleman's versatility as an actor. Blackpool's prolific media star has played a multitude of characters with strikingly different personalities. Coleman's astonishing performances demonstrate her sheer commitment and dedication to these parts, leaving audiences amazed at the multi-faceted individuals she has played.
