THE CIVIL WAR UPDATE PT. 1
The war rages on in the North as the forces of the Little King, his name destined to be wiped from the history, continue their chaos, they have experienced push back from communities of people from the East who have banded together to join the efforts to protect White Harbour and have started their own search parties hoping to locate Manal II Manderly.
The King's Party ( King Owen Stark and Prince Cregan Stark, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, Yuan Anya and Cassana Stark)
King Owen Stark and his brother @crreganstark are travelling to the wall where they will crush the rebelling watchmen where the King intends to leave his brother with the task of protecting the Northern Front from wildlings and providing support to @wintervsuns (Lord Brandon Karstark). As the brothers travel Owen has started using their nights at camp to teach Cregan about warging into creatures, starting with teaching him to warg into his wolf and control it. Between practicing with Cregan, Owen has taken to sitting in his tent before sleep and warging into the Smoke and leading wolves into an Umber camp where the commander of the camp is ripped apart by wolves. Tales of the Warg King are spreading across the North as more animals have started to attack people on the roads. Owen hopes to warg into a bear soon, a bear he's been trying to attach to since spotting in while in Smoke. Cregan is taking well to his training and has become a great help to Owen. They never break the rules of warg or skinchanging: no feasting on human flesh, no mating, and no taking over the body of a man or woman.
Princess @cassvstark continues to lead her group of female archers. she is staying close to her brother's side, relaying all information from her visions to him no matter how small it might seem. However she is starting to pick up on some dangerous rumors coming down from the Umber forces but needs to verify them before speaking with Owen.
Lady @anya-snow has capitalized on the yitish relation and soldiers from the regions of Wan and Shizi have travelled to the westerosi kingdom of the north in the past weeks. The forces under Owen have grown, with a troop of 1000 yitish soldiers arriving. The blacksmith, for her part, has supplied the Night's Watch with weaponry and has been travelling across camps with a team of smiths to reforge and fix blades for the army of the true north.
House Manderly
Lord @amirofmanderlys made the difficult choice of continuing on with his journey to Skagos after providing much needed assistance to Brandon Karstark through a restock of supplies and support before continuing to Skagos where he will be for some time. Owen has sent word to their YiTish allies who will meet Amir at Skagos.
Duke @nasirofmanderlys is leading the charge of taking down the forces of the Little King as he tracks the man in hopes of securing his sister and bringing her home. The people of the East who has been welcomed into White Harbour have ventured out to joke Nasir. Tirius Rowan has sent 500 volunteers to White Harbour for an attack on one Old Way family is an attack on them all and as word reached Goldengrove the Marshall of the Northmarch sought out volunteers who wished to travel North before going to Alayim.
House Karstark
Duke Brandon Karstark has been hit hard, his home lands surrounded and his wife @northernseer believed to be dead needs to be buried. Unknown to the King, Meera appears to be alive. Brandon has been intensely defending the borders of his land with help from Amir Manderly's resources. The YiTish arrive to provide assistance to the Duke per the agreement between the North and the YiTish.
The Stark in Winterfell
Queen @rosaaaryn continues to be the Stark in Winterfell. She is doing her best to help take in any known loyal women and children who need shelter if umber forces are over taking their lands. She is writing correspondences between various lords and ladies to try and help pass information along if she can.
The Military Commanders
Prince @adam-stark and lord @jin-renshu have continued to lead the berserkers to raze Umber forces. A warning had already been given so no men is left alive. Adam has made an example of every commanding officer and treacherous lord that falls on the battle, beheading them and leaving their headless corpses hanging from trees as continuous retaliation for the murder of the young prince, Jon.
The Loyal Bolton:
Princess Consort @northernglorie (Glorie Bolton) [updates in part 2]
Magics of the North
Princess @allysannestark has travel with a party to her lands where she has provided the support of a Stark presence along with her skill in regards to the North and it's many plants. She has started to seek other means to provide support to the Northmen in their battles. [Further Updates in Part 2]
The Western Front
Ren left the legion after a bit, as sea dragon point has been turned into a refugee area. The new ruling lord has been granting food and shelter for those that come to his land.
Duke @xavariglover has left men to protect their Western Front by land and sea, he is aware that any word of Manal Manderly requires forces to be sent. She is of priority along with tracking and keeping the rebellious Mountain Clans in check as they terrorize the Western lands of the North. [ Further Updates in part 2 ]
Final Note
The North will be forever changed by the choices of the Little King and his choice to target the people of the Old Way with such ferocity. As the war rages on, people have started to defect from the Little King, a steady bleeding of Northmen after the acts against the Old Way. To stop this bleeding support traitors are being killed by the Little King and his commanders.
The Hugors, some call the people taking a personal touch in attacking the camps of the traitors to the North, have started to poison the water barrels of Umber forces, steal their food, and kill them in the night. These are acts carried around by rumor residents of White Harbour though others whisper it is the worshippers from the east where men are more use to such treatment and have made it a point to fight back and show appreciation to their hosts. And the daughter who welcomed them, different as they are. [Further Updates in part 2]
(ooc: i think that in a place where there are many gods there would also be people who fight and if the rhllorist of the east are attacking Alayim then the Braavosi calling White Harbour home aren't strangers to intolerance.).

@hprecfest Day 2 - A Comfort fic
Regretfully Yours by @maria-de-salinas
Severus/ Petunia. Explicit.
The unexpectedly tender and intimate romance between Severus and Petunia - post the events of First War- tops this list. Maria has a way of writing care, intimacy with such loving attention to detail, it blows me away in all of her work. This also has a sequel!
Summary:
1981 was not Petunia's year. The day before New Year's Eve, determined to make a fresh start of it, she straps Harry and Dudley into the car and flees north--only to hit into the biggest snowstorm she's ever seen in her life. Grief-stricken and dazed by his pivot from Death Eater to teacher, Severus Snape spends his holiday far from everyone, wandering aimlessly through the snow. The last thing either of them wanted was their paths to collide, but when Petunia gets stuck in the snow, they'll get stuck with each other.
2. Not bright or noble, but almost sublime by @yletylyf
Severus/Sirius raising Harry. Explicit.
I remember talking to Lety when we connected in Snirius fandom: "Where are the fluffy fics? Where are the raising Harry fics?" Of course, Snirius fandom as a whole is interested in the tension and delicious angst of Sirius and Severus together, often veering to darker territories - so it was a relief when Lety started writing this! A very fun Snirius raising Harry story.
Summary:
On that fateful Halloween night in Godric's Hollow, Severus Snape and Sirius Black unite in a common cause: find the Secret-Keeper who betrayed their best friend. Or: A temporary truce turns into something much more.
3. The Dog and Deer Detective Agency by @artemisia-black
Sirius/OFC.
If you ever wanted to see Sirius Black in a noir-esque mystery, this is your fic. Not only is Artemisia good at building the luxuriant atmosphere for the foreboding story, this is a good exploration of Sirius in an alternate universe without threat of Voldemort. He is a freer version of the man you might see in canon, but still has that family baggage. There is also tons of baby Harry and Sirius cuteness (yes, that is my catnip- Harry and Sirius are my favourite dynamic in canon)
Summary:
Set in an AU where Voldemort is never born. James and Sirius are both the best of friends and brilliant wizards, and not wanting to be tied down to a 9-to-5, they founded a detective agency. A year in, they have had a steady business from scorned spouses until one day a woman arrives and draws them into a sinister plot in the Scottish Highlands.
sore subject by @incalculablepower
Lavendar Brown/Parvati Patil & Demelza Robbins/Parvati Patil
No one gets the romantic comedy #vibe of Half Blood Prince quite like Incalculable Power. This fic is special among her work because she captures an experience lot of queer women go through - an intense codependent friendship that is just waiting to edge into romance.
Summary:
The High Priestess, reversed. Trust your intuition. Your true self is waiting; she refuses to be contained for much longer.
Orchards by @whinlatter
Harry/Ginny.
Whinlatter dropped into the fandom with a 17k fic written about the summer Harry and Ginny fell in love, and it was utterly beautiful tribute to first loves, Harry, Ginny and also, the third character: the orchard. Even when the fic weaved in the grief Harry is still dealing with and references the war years, it is infused with hope for the future.
Summary:
The orchard is a wild, thousand-flower, crumpled-gate, fall-down-fence sort of place, where things grow that you’ve never asked for, that you’d never expect. The summer of ’96, the story of something flowery he thought he might have smelled at the Burrow.

Five Idiots Look For a Cave - Chapter One
Summary: Laios and his sister Falin are hired to guard a wagon of provisions as it travels from the city of Neverwinter to the small frontier settlement of Phandalin. It seems like a dead easy job, but it quickly becomes more complicated when their employer is kidnapped by goblins, sending them on a wild goose chase across the most dangerous parts of the Sword Coast in search of him with a ragtag group of unlikely allies.
Or, I make the dunmeshi guys play through the Lost Mines of Phandelver, because why not.
A/N: This is such a weird project to tag and explain, but I'm going to try.
For those familiar with Delicious In Dungeon, but not Dungeons & Dragons: The Lost Mines of Phandelver is the scenario/campaign that's provided in the starter set that you can buy for Dungeons & Dragons. I've run this campaign a bunch of times during my years playing Dungeons & Dragons and I thought the characters of dunmeshi were just begging to be dropped into a D&D game. So, that's what I did. The plot of this story is the campaign, Lost Mines of Phandelver, and whenever the characters need to do something, I roll dice to see whether they can do it or not. Combat, investigation, everything. I am literally playing this game by myself and then converting it into a fic.
For those familiar with Dungeons & Dragons, but not Delicious In Dungeon: Delicious In Dungeon is an anime set in a fantasy world where dungeon diving is a well-known career choice. The setting and characters are such a good match to Dungeons & Dragons that I had to change very little to get the characters to fit into a Forgotten Realms setting.
All that to say, the story should be digestible by anyone, even if you're not familiar with both fandoms.
Also, just a warning that I don't really have an in depth plan for this story, so I'm going to add tags and relationships as I go. I really like Chilchuck/Laios and Falin/Marcille, so those are the two pairings most likely to be added, but no promises either way. I'll make sure to warn if I add anything at the beginning of each chapter.
Laios Touden and his sister Falin stood by while the wagon they had been paid to accompany was loaded up with supplies. Young men barely more than boys hauled barrels and burlap sacks of provisions up into the old warped bed of the wagon, more passing up shovels, pickaxes and crowbars. Laios counted about twelve sacks of flour, seven casks of salted pork, two kegs of strong ale, five lanterns, and a small barrel of oil.
It was early, just an hour before dawn, but the south gate out of the city of Neverwinter was already starting to bustle with traffic. Mostly it was wagons not unlike their own, though filled with produce and other products from the farms circling the city that served to feed the swollen populace within the city walls. From farther north the smell of baking bread and roasting meat signaled the beginning of breakfast for the many people packed in close behind thick the stone walls.
Laios was ready to leave the city. He had grown up in the far north, surrounded by rolling fields, freezing cold fjords, and winter lashed forests. He had lived in a lot of places since he had left his home, but cities were never his favorite. There were too many people, too close, all smelling and talking and leaving their things everywhere. He was looking forward to being outside the city walls for a while, but they had to wait until the wagon was full before they could leave.
“Toudens!” a boisterous voice called from the main thoroughfare.
Falin, standing beside him and watching the loading of the wagon with more interest than Laios, smiled and raised her hand at the call. Slower, Laios raised his hand as well, to wave to their most recent employer.
A dwarf with rust colored red hair and beard sitting atop a pretty dapple gray pony split from the little stream of people leaving the city through the south gate and came toward Laios and the steadily filling wagon. Following behind him was an older human man wearing chain mail and riding on a three quarter sized bay mare with another small dwarf with a thick black beard witting sideways on the horse’s haunches behind him.
“Mr. Rockseeker,” Laios greeted him as he pulled his horse up close. He didn’t step down to talk to Laios, but he didn’t begrudge him. Laios wondered how the dwarf had managed to get onto the horse in the first place.
“Please, call me Gundren,” Mr. Rockseeker said with a twinkling smile. His nose and cheeks were ruddy red above his red beard. “Mr. Rockseeker was my father.”
Laios stared at Gundren blankly until he heard Falin snort out a laugh and he realized that the nonsensical statement was a joke. He quickly barked a laugh out that felt false even to his ears. But, if Gundren noticed, it didn’t show on his face that Laios could tell.
“It looks like everyone is here, so I hope you don’t mind if I introduce you to my nephew-” Gundren started to say before being interrupted by Falin.
“Oh, actually! We’re still waiting for a friend of mine who offered to come along,” she explained with a pleasant smile.
Gundren’s face did something too complicated for Laios to follow. “A friend?” he asked uncertainly.
“Who’s everyone?” Laios asked, wondering if Gundren had meant him and Falin. He thought you usually would say ‘both’ instead of ‘everyone’ if you were just addressing two people, though he was no stranger to being wrong when it came to things like that.
“He means me,” a surly voice from near Laios’ hip grumbled, making him jump about a foot in the air and turn around.
Laios hadn’t heard anyone approach, but a halfling man with short brown hair peppered with a few fine gray hairs and big ears was standing right beside him, his arms folded in front of his chest. He had a soft looking green muffler looped around his neck and worn leather armor over a plain white shirt and dark pants. And, he apparently noticed Laios staring, as he threw a nasty look up at Laios after a few second of him looking a little too intently.
He was usually pretty bad at interpreting people’s expressions, but it was hard to misunderstand that kind of look.
Laios tuned back into Falin and Gundren’s conversation just in time to see them get interrupted by Marcille stumbling up to them, panting and bracing her hands on her knees to catch her breath. Her long blonde hair was braided in a complicated style that left half of it piled on top of her head, and half it hanging long down her back and she was wearing a pretty blue dress that looked warm but a little impractical for hard travel. As well as her spell book and quarterstaff of course.
“I’m so sorry I’m late!” she gasped. “I told the innkeeper to wake me up, but she never came! I ran the whole” she paused to take another gasping breath, “way here!”
“I won’t be able to pay another person,” Grundren said to Laios, turning his back on the two women.
“Falin and I will split our pay with her. She’s a good friend of ours. She’s trustworthy,” Laios explained, he hoped sufficiently, for Gundren.
Gundren’s eyebrows did some wiggling, shadowing his small dark eyes for a moment, but then he sighed and his shoulders slumped, and the warm smile and the twinkling eyes were back as if they had never left.
“Well, that’s alright then. Anyway, I wanted to introduce you all to my nephew, Senshi,” he said, turning to gesture to the two men behind him. The human man had helped the dwarf off the tall horse and he was walking up to the small group. “He’ll be accompanying the rest of you on the wagon to Phandalin.”
A chorus of hellos in various levels of enthusiasm came from the small group gathered by the side of the wagon. Senshi looked a lot like Gundren, if the coloring was a lot darker and his face a lot less expressive. Senshi had a long thick wavy beard that matched his thick wavy hair and a slightly receding hairline. His eyebrows were thick and his eyes were small, dark and keen. It was hard to read Senshi’s expression. Laios suspected that was probably true even for people who weren’t him.
“With that, I’ll have to bid farewell,” Gundren said with a little half bow from the top of his pony. “I look forward to meeting with the rest of you in Phandalin.”
“We won’t be traveling together?” the halfling man spoke up. He looked uncertainly at Laios and the others, before turning a frustrated expression up at Gundren.
“It’s faster to travel by horse than by wagon and I have some business to finish up in Phandalin before you all get there. But, you all won’t be far behind me,” Gundren said, already turning his pony around. The human man was mounting his mare, as well, turning her nose toward the south gate. “Take good care of those supplies!” he called over his shoulder as he rejoined the press of people heading toward the walls of the city.
The five left behind awkwardly glanced around at each other. Laios, Falin and Marcille stood together, looking down at the two smaller men who would apparently be their traveling companions for the next two or three days.
While they had been talking, the last of the supplies had been loaded into the wagon and the men who had been doing the loading had left. There was nothing to keep them there but uncertainty about their new companions.
Finally, the halfling man broke the silence with a derisive sniff. “I’ll drive the wagon,” he said. “The rest of you can ride in the back until we get out of the crowd.”
With that, he stepped away from the others and jumped a little to reach the bench at the front of the wagon and confidently took the reins. He looked over his shoulder impatiently and the others took the hint.
“Uh, right. Thanks!” Laios said, probably way too late by the way that the halfling man sucked his teeth at Laios, but Falin always said better late than never.
His chain mail clinking, Laios climbed up into the wagon behind Marcille and Falin, who had already claimed the most comfortable spots on top of the flour sacks. He reached back behind him to help pull the dwarf man, Senshi, up into the wagon as well and got a friendly nod in thanks. Together, he and the other man had to make do trying to find a comfortable spot between the tools and barrels.
Once everyone had stopped shifting, the halfling man flicked the reins and the old horses hitched to the wagon started off, pulling the rattling wooden wheels across cobblestones out of Neverwinter and south along the well maintained High Road toward their destination.
---
They made camp the first night in a little windswept area off the left side of the road alongside a number of other travelers. Their campfires flickered orange in the moonlight, lighting up the worn cobblestones of the road even if it was too dark for anyone to keep moving. The air was brisk since the shoreline was close, close enough that you could hear the soft crashing of waves on the beach in the small silences between the campsites.
“I’m surprised they only gave us five ration packs each,” Marcille said into the silence as they all sat around the fire munching away at the hard bread, dried meat and sharp cheese that had been wrapped up in wax paper for them by the same store that had loaded the wagon up for Gundren.
“It shouldn’t take us more than two days to get to Phandalin,” Chilchuck answered her from around a mouthful of bread. Chilchuck Tims was the halfling man. After half a day of traveling by wagon, Laios had finally worked up the courage to ask and was pleasantly surprised when he answered.
“Still, tis foolish to not prepare for a longer trip. Who knows what trouble we may meet on the road,” the dwarf, Senshi, said as he looked down and rubbed the dried meat between his thick blunt fingers. Laios wondered if he was trying to soften it with his hands first. He wondered if it worked.
“Senshi is right,” Laios said after a second. “If it does end up taking us longer than two days to reach Phandalin, we’ll be in a real bind.”
“We’re not going to die if we have to go a day or two without food,” Chilchuck responded, but he looked a little unhappy at the thought.
Laios shared a look with Falin at that. He supposed that was true, but he had gone without eating before on expeditions that went wrong and it wasn’t something he wanted to repeat if he could help it.
“What made you take this job, Chilchuck?” Marcille asked after an awkward moment of silence. “You seemed surprised to see other people.”
Chilchuck frowned back at her. “What made you take this job?” he asked back.
Undeterred, Marcille answered, “Well, I didn’t really take it so much as I agreed to tag along.” Turning to Falin, she asked, “What made you guys take it?”
“Laios saw the job posting at the guild,” Falin explained as she broke off a piece of her cheese and offered it to Marcille who hummed happily as she popped it in her mouth. “He’s my brother and I often accompany him on jobs that take him out of the city.”
“Yep,” Laios added, thinking back. “Falin has saved my life more times than I could count. But, this job sounded easy and straight forward. ‘10 gold to escort provisions to Phandalin with option to make more. For reliable persons only.’ “ Laios recited from memory. “Seemed just like the thing for me and Falin.”
“Ye belong to an adventurer’s guild, then?” Senshi asked Laios with a raised eyebrow.
Laios wrinkled his nose as he realized that, even if it was true, saying he was part of the adventurer’s guild was probably a little misleading.
“I only just joined a month ago. I’m still pretty green. Easy jobs like this are the only ones I’m qualified for,” Laios said hesitantly.
“But, Laios is really amazing in a fight! That’s how he got into the guild, by proving himself in a tournament. He’ll climb the ranks in no time!” Falin added with an enthusiastic grin thrown in Laios’ direction. Even if the praise made him more self-conscious, it warmed something in his heart to have her support and encouragement.
“Thanks,” he mumbled, scratching at the back of his neck.
“And, you’re just tagging along?” Chilchuck asked Marcille, doubt thick in his tone.
“Uh, well,” Marcille fumbled, seeming a little taken off guard by the question.
“Marcille is a friend of mine from temple,” Falin jumped in to say. “She just moved to Neverwinter and we’ve been showing her around. We didn’t want to leave her alone in the city for however long the job took, so we invited her along.”
Marcille and Falin shared a speaking look, something that Laios could recognize from the outside but not totally understand. Sometimes it seemed like they could have whole conversations with just their faces, in a few brief seconds snatched between words. It seemed an impossible kind of skill, one that he envied and was a little mystified by.
“That’s right,” Marcille agreed, her nose and ears a shade pinker than they had been a moment ago. “But, you still haven’t answered my question. I understand why Mr. Rockseeker wanted someone like Laios to guard his provisions on the road to Phandalin, but I’m not really sure how you fit into this.” She gave Chilchuck a piercing look, one he returned with an unhappy twist of his lips.
But, after only a moment, he sighed and sagged back against the fallen log he had sat himself against.
“Me and Gundren go way back. We used to go dungeon diving together back when I was younger. He was always decent to me. All he told me was that he had some kind of crazy opportunity opening up in Phandalin that I would want to get in on and to meet him there by the gates. He didn’t mention I’d be riding in a wagon with a bunch of strangers while he went on ahead,” Chilchuck finished with a dirty look aimed at the dirt by his foot. Laios didn’t have to be good at understanding people to understand that Chilchuck probably wished he could aim that look at Gundren instead.
“Oh, that’s awful,” Marcille sighed.
“Aye, I’m sorry to hear that. My uncle isn’t always the most considerate. Especially when he’s on a job,” Senshi added with a sorrowful nod of his head.
Chilchuck waved his hand, as if he could swat the condolences offered to him out of the air. “Whatever,” he said. “What’s done is done. I owe you all an apology, anyway. I didn’t mean to take my bad mood out on all of you.”
“Well, it’s a bit understandable,” Falin offered with a smile.
“Yeah, we didn’t take it personally,” Laios said with a shrug. He had assumed that the behavior he’d seen so far had been Chilchuck’s normal personality. It was sort of nice to hear that it wasn’t.
“Gundren is your uncle, huh?” Laios asked, changing the focus to Senshi. “Is there anything you can tell us about him? I only got to speak to him a little bit before taking this job.”
“Aye, he is my uncle, though our family is large and he is one of five uncles of mine,” Senshi explained. “There’s not much I can tell you about him, unfortunately. He and two of my uncles do much treasure hunting in the mountains about Neverwinter. I suspect that’s how you came into contact with him?” Senshi asked Chilchuck.
“Yep,” Chilchuck said. “I’m a locksmith by trade, but I have a reputation for being skilled at disarming dwarvish traps. He hired me way back when I was just starting out and is half the reason I have that reputation.”
“Do you have an interest in treasure hunting, Senshi?” Falin asked curiously.
Senshi stared into their crackling fire, his usually expressionless face becoming sorrowful. “Nay, not I. Not anymore.”
Laios looked around at the others, hoping someone more skilled at talking would interrupt the sad lonesome silence that had descended over Senshi. Unfortunately, it looked like everyone else was casting around to each other for the same thing.
Luckily, it was Senshi himself who broke the long silence. “I suspect my uncle thinks me a bit of a layabout. I don’t do any of the traditional dwarven pursuits. Mining, blacksmithing, gold prospecting. I’m sure whatever job he wants me to help with it will be something like that.”
“And, what is it that you like to do, Senshi?” Falin asked gently.
Senshi looked up for the first time since he had started talking.
“Cooking,” he said decisively. “I love to cook.”
Falin clapped her hands in joy. “Oh that’s wonderful!” she exclaimed.
“What do you like to cook most?” Marcille asked.
“Do you have a specialty?” Chilchuck asked with interest.
Laios smiled as the conversation lightened and turned lively as everyone talked and shared about food, their favorite foods, their family recipes, regional specialties they knew of.
It seemed like the ice had been broken and even if they weren’t friends they were well on their way to getting there.
---
The next morning they got an early start, eating their third ration for breakfast quickly before cleaning up the last embers of their campfire and packing up so they could get back on the road. They were not on the high road for long before they turned left onto a small dirt track with a simple sign marking it as the Triboar Trail.
It’s this road that they would take for the rest of the day and hopefully reach the small settlement town of Phandalin before nightfall.
Laios didn’t know much about the town of Phandalin. From what little he heard from other people in the guild, it was a tiny town just on the edge of the wilderness that was built on the remnants of another older settlement. It sat on the edge of the foothills of the Sword Mountains and was mostly populated by miners and the people who ran businesses that served them.
This part was the part of the journey that he had been hired for. The Triboar Trail was really that, just a worn down dirt trail leading off into untamed and largely uninhabited woods and meadows. All manner of creatures, bandits and beasts populated those lands and would have likely loved to get their hands on a wagon full of supplies like what they had.
A shiver of anticipation ran down Laios’ back as he imagined the types of monsters known to haunt the woods around them. There were stirges, of course, terrible little mosquito like creatures about the length of your arm that attacked suddenly and would try to drain their victims of blood. Ghouls could come out at night, ethereal specters of long dead travelers looking for warm bodies to possess. Ogres preferred the foothills, but they could wander close enough that running into one traveling afield for hunting wouldn’t be out of the question. Then there were goblins, orcs, owlbears! The list just went on.
Laios couldn’t suppress a whine of excitement at the thought. The sound, as quiet as it was, was still noticed by the halfling sitting beside him on the bench at the front of the wagon. Chilchuck jumped a little at the sound and gave Laios an uncertain look.
“Oh, uh,” Laios fumbled, trying to think of an explanation that didn’t include explaining that he was just excited to finally be entering monster country. “Just had a tickle in my throat,” he landed on lamely.
Chilchuck gave him a suspicious squint, but turned back to examining the road in front of them.
They continued on like that throughout the morning. Marcille and Falin occasionally walked beside the horses, the two old things walking slow enough that the women had no issues keeping up with them at a brisk walk. Senshi said his legs were too short to keep up and instead enjoyed relaxing on the flour sacks and making small talk.
It turned out that Senshi had traveled all over the world cooking and learning new cooking techniques. Marcille, the most well traveled of all of them, was especially impressed with him and got him to talking about all the far flung places he had visited.
Unfortunately for Laios, not a single monster accosted them that whole morning, even though both he and Chilchuck in front of the wagon were trying to keep a weather eye out for any movement in the brush on the sides of the road.
That is, until they reached a road block just before noon.
Just as they turned a bend in the road, they came upon a distressing sight. Two horses lying dead on their sides in the center of the road, numerous arrows pointing up out of their sides.
Chilchuck pulled the wagon to a stop as soon as they saw them and everyone stopped and stared.
“Those are Gundren and Sildar’s horses,” Senshi said slowly, looking at the two dead horses from between Chilchuck and Laios.
“Sildar?” Laios asked.
“The human man that was with Gundren yesterday morning. His bodyguard,” Senshi explained.
“I don’t like this. This feels like a set up,” Chilchuck whispered, furrowing his brow and barely raising his voice enough to be heard by the two men sitting right beside him.
“Even if we don’t trust it, we won’t be able to get the wagon past unless we move the horses,” Laios said with a thoughtful frown.
“Maybe you could use your magic to move them?” Falin asked Marcille.
Marcille fidgeted with her cape, tugging on the silky red ribbon at the front. “I couldn’t use mage hand to move them, they’re too heavy. I can only manage ten pounds at most.”
Laios sighed and jumped down from the wagon. “I’ll go investigate and try to move them. You guys take cover and let me know if you see anything, okay?”
Everyone nodded except Senshi who climbed down from the wagon, as well. “I’ll help ye,” he said gruffly. “Moving the horses will go faster if we work together.”
Chilchuck jumped back into the wagon and took cover behind a barrel, drawing his shortbow and knocking an arrow, his keen brown eyes scanning the thick foliage on either side of the road. Marcille also drew close the wagon, crouching down by a wheel and clenching her staff in both hands and looking a little seasick. Falin, however, stepped out front holding her mace menacingly in front of her, the sharp metal edges at the top glinting dangerously in the dappled light through the trees.
Laios tried to approach the horses cautiously, but his armor clicked and rang out as he walked. Senshi was quieter, but much slower. As they approached the horses, Laios agreed that they were the same ones he had seen Gundren and the human man riding yesterday morning. Even the tack on the horses was the same. Examining the blanket and saddle, Laios also noticed that the saddlebags of both horses were open, the insides looking dark and empty.
“I’ll take one set of legs, you take the other,” Senshi said, approaching the back legs of the pony.
“Wait, Senshi. Does it look like their saddlebags have been looted?” Laios asked, pointing at the bag he was looking at on the bay mare.
Senshi barely had time to make an inquisitive hum before the sound of a twig snapping behind him sent him and Laios turning just in time to see a small green creature sneaking through the underbrush with a small rudimentary bow drawn on them.
“LAIOS, LOOK OUT!” Falin shouted, pointing her mace at the goblin who had just startled them both.
Before either of them could react, an arrow was fired at them from the opposite side of the road, arching straight at Laios’ back. A flash of incredible burning pain lanced through his back, the pain so incredible that his vision fuzzed and blurred for a moment. He put his hand to his shoulder and felt hot blood against his fingertips, the soft wood of a small arrow sticking out of his back.
Beside him, Laios heard Senshi grunt and turned his head to see his new friend pierced through with an arrow, as well. Senshi was reaching out to touch a small arrow fletched in black feathers that was protruding from his upper arm, dribbling bright red blood.
“Laios!” Falin shouted again, her voice cracking on his name in a way that made his already racing heart stutter in his chest. Then, Falin quickly shouted a word that made Laios ears ring, her hand tracing a strange pattern in the air, before a flame-like radiance shot down from the sky at the goblin they had first seen.
Just as the light flickered in the air, Falin’s magic building above the goblin, the creature dodged to the side, missing the blast of sacred energy by a hair’s breadth.
The little green man growled, his voice high and stringent, making him sound like a saw working through a green piece of wood. Popping up from his rolling jump, he ran at Laios, a short chipped scimitar appearing in his long fingered hand.
Laios watched the blade come at him as if in slow motion, the goblin’s mouth fixed in a vicious snarl, his thin dark hair flying out behind his bulbous head. At the last second he leaned back out of the way of the strike and drew his own sword, his hand sure on the grip through hours and hours of training.
Behind the first goblin, yet another one appeared, this one also wielding a rusty damaged scimitar. It dodged around Laios, who was still engaged with the first goblin he had seen, and went straight for Senshi. Senshi, who had just yanked the arrow from his arm, threw up a hand desperately to protect himself from the attack, but still suffered a grievous wound across his arm that sprayed blood across the dirt road.
With a grunt, Senshi raised his greataxe high above his head. The goblin, still grinning in glee at landing a hit on the dwarf, didn’t see the axe coming until it cleaved his skull cleanly in half.
“Great job, Senshi,” Laios gasped, raising his own greatsword up at an angle to swipe at the goblin he was facing off with.
His own sword, heavier, longer and carefully maintained, carved through the small body and brittle bones of his attacker like a hot knife through butter. The goblin collapsed in a bloody heap with barely a whimper.
“Shit, shit, shit!” Laios could faintly hear Chilchuck saying from over by the wagon.
An arrow flew from the wagon where Chilchuck was hiding, fired into the bushes where the first two arrows had been shot from.
Laios barely had a moment to process that Chilchuck had joined the fight before another arrow flew, this one decidedly not from Chilchuck, and struck him right in the neck. Laios hit the ground in a spray of dirt, blood welling from his neck. In a matter of seconds his body began to feel cold, his eyesight blurry, his heart sluggish in his chest. He could hear people calling his name, but it all sounded far away.
Time became smeary around Laios. He could hear people shouting, see movement in what little he could still see, but the sound of his own struggling heartbeat took up most of his awareness. He could feel the blood pump out of his own body with each squeeze of his heart, smell the salty copper of his own life spilling out onto the uncaring forest floor.
Then, familiar hands are yanking the arrows out of his body. He could feel the flesh tear and give away under the new violence, but no pain came. He felt cold, so cold. Those same hands pressed tight against his back and a rush of warmth and pain pulsed through him, like unseen hands were yanking his flesh back in place, knitting the holes closed with fury, his body put back together none too gently, but put back together none the less.
Laios gasped as he opened his eyes and they focused on the scene around him. Falin was kneeling over him, her hands still stained with his blood, two bloody arrows discarded on the ground nearby. Senshi was laying on his back beside him in the blood soaked dirt, an arrow sticking out of his chest.
Struggling, still feeling dizzy from blood loss, Laios climbed back to his feet, picking his greatsword up off the ground.
“Thanks,” he whispered to Falin as he stood up between her and the two goblins still hiding in the brush.
“I’m just glad you’re okay,” she said around teary eyes.
“You’ve got to get them out of cover!” Chilchuck shouted as he shot another arrow into the underbrush that the arrows were coming from, though from the sound he didn’t hit anything.
Another arrow flew out of the bushes, this time aimed right at Falin, but pinged the chain mail under her robe and fell uselessly to the ground by her feet.
“Ouch,” she grumbled, rubbing the spot on her chest.
“Did that thing just hit you in the boob?!” Marcille shrieked from near the wagon.
“Uh?” Falin responded uncertainly.
Marcille shouted something in a language that Laios didn’t understand and gestured with her staff. Three darts of light flew from her staff to the bushes, igniting them with pale blue light followed by a sound of agony and a wet thump as something hits the ground. Shortly after, the sound of fast footsteps receding into the woods could be heard.
“Whoa,” Laios said, his eyes huge as he turned back to look at a still panting Marcille, her staff still held out in front of her.
“Did the last one just run away?” Falin asked faintly.
“Forget that! Heal Senshi!” Chilchuck shouted, already crawling over the seat of the wagon and hurrying over to where Senshi was still laid out on his back.
“Oh! Right, of course!” Falin exclaimed, falling back to her knees and pulling the most recent arrow from where it had buried itself in Senshi’s chest. Falin spoke some strange words and traced a symbol on Senshi’s skin. A faint warm yellow glow emanated from her hands where she pressed them to Senshi’s torso and the wounds steadily closed, the blood marching backward back into his body as the puncture wounds pulled back together.
Senshi grunted, his unfocused eyes finally seeming to see them, tracking Falin and Laios and Chilchuck as he ran up to meet them, Marcille trailing behind.
“Did we find victory?” Senshi asked with a harsh groan as he pushed himself to sit up, Laios’ hand on his shoulder to steady him.
“We’re alive and they’re mostly not, but I don’t know if you’d call that victory,” Chilchuck said wryly.
“That was terrifying,” Marcille gasped with a hand to her chest. “Is this really what you two do for a living?” Marcille asked with a concerned look at Falin who only shrugged.
“Usually with less dying, but yeah mostly,” Laios said with a shrug of his own.
“Oh, my god,” Marcille breathed. “OH MY GOD!” she shouted after a second.
“Shush! Not so loud!” Chilchuck hissed at her. “Just because these goblins are dead doesn’t mean there’s not more hiding in the woods. We need to get out of here before the one that got away comes back with his friends.”
“But,” Laios said, sheathing his sword and turning to look at the dead horses still blocking the road. “If Gundren was caught in the same ambush we just were, then the goblins could be holding him hostage. We need to help him, right?” he asked, turning to the others.
“I agree. If Gundren is in trouble, we must help him,” Senshi said with a firm nod.
“I don’t think so!” Marcille exclaimed. “You two almost died and that was only four goblins! Now you want to stomp into their lair and what? Demand to speak to a manager? I don’t think that’s going to go over very well!”
“But, Marcille. The magic you just used was amazing! With you and Falin helping us, we’ll be able to save Gundren. I’m sure of it,” Laios said with a determined nod.
“Well… About that,” Falin said awkwardly. “That last healing spell kind of wiped me out. If someone gets hurt again, I won’t be able to heal them.”
“… Oh,” said Laios, caught flat footed by that thought.
“Yeah, ‘oh’,” Chilchuck sighed. “And, I’m too old to go charging into danger unprepared. The two of you aren’t all the way up to snuff either. Why don’t we take this wagon the rest of the way to Phandalin and then come back to investigate? At least that way our two mages will be at full power and you two will be back to full health.”
Laios looked down at the ground, at the two goblins crumbled and bleeding into the dirt, at the two horses still on their sides in the middle of the road. At the blood still crusted into his sword’s blade and his chain mail, still matted into Senshi’s beard and on Falin’s hands and knees.
“Okay,” he said finally. “You’re right. Let’s to Phandalin and come back tomorrow.”
There were mumbles of agreement as Chilchuck, Marcille and Falin went back to the wagon and Laios and Senshi turned back to their original goal of dragging the horses off the road.
“Do you truly think the goblins took my uncle?” Senshi asked as they stood up from pulling the second horse off the road.
“I do,” Laios said. “Horses have a lot more value to goblins than humans or dwarves do. They use them as pack animals and sometimes eat them. If the goblins shot your uncle’s horse, then they wanted him in particular. And, if they wanted him for some reason, then there’s a good chance he’s still alive wherever they’re hiding him.”
Senshi gave Laios a long calculating look before nodding slowly. “Thank you, Laios,” he said gruffly, before turning and walking back to the wagon.
Laios scratched his head for a moment, not sure what he did to deserve thanks. Whatever the reason, at least Senshi seemed reassured.

Happy WBW! What might your setting's civilizations look like in the future? As far in the future as you'd like :)
Thank you for this question!
Oh jeez, this is gonna be the longest post on my blog. You can’t just drop these sorts of questions on me!  My partner and I have done quite a bit of plotting out the centuries after Narul. I'm going to try to condense things down to just the most important events and trends. This will be specifically the stretch of time between 1 A.N. (After Narul) to ~2500 A.N., which roughly marks the start of the Revelations Series.
This, double-spaced, is 33 pages aka 11460 words. Please ignore the weird spacing, I had to mess with stuff in order for Tumblr to let me make a post this big.
Feel free to skim, but don’t feel like you need to read the entire thing. If there is anything you want defined or want me to expand on, please ask! I love world/lorebuilding and I do way too much of it.
Minor spoilers I suppose since this is after Narul’s death?
To be truly accurate this list would need to be far far bigger. These are very simple descriptions most lacking perspective and nuance. Someday I might do expanded timelines on the different eras and regions.

Timeline
Tumblr media
The Age of the First Scribes
1 A.N.- 97 A.N. Narul Ninefingers passes away on the Island of Euphoi, Korithia. His remains are entombed there. The villagers living there, most of whom are Rechiru immigrants, tell their children stories and legends of his exploits. Many of these come from the so-called “Testaments'', a series of stories recounting the life of Narul and his companions. Over time these stories are distorted as they are rewritten and reorganized, resulting in the creation of different Narolian Traditions (Narul is rendered as Narolos in the Korithian). One of these traditions combines stories of Narul/Narolos, with the religion and mytho-history of the Rechiru. This group followed a monotheistic tradition, one which interpreted the varied deities of their neighbors as multiple aspects of the Creator Deity, Joyuth. Among this small community of the Rechiru, Narul becomes increasingly seen as a servant, herald, or in some cases, child of Joyuth, and the “Testaments' ' adopts a religious aspect.
3 A.N.- 29 A.N. Matrus, King of the Baalkic City-State of Etrusia, in the aftermath of the Ninamtic War, successfully subjugates all of the Baalkic City-States, and then turns his attention to Korithia, kicking off a vicious rivalry between the new Etrusian Empire and the Korithian City-States.
This continues below
4 A.N. The Last High Chieftain of the Western Makurian Federation, Sodati, is killed at the Battle of the Reeds by the leader of a band of Ukaric people, in the aftermath she reinstates Ukaric power in the eastern Palluyadic Peninsula. This new unified Ukaric state is eventually named for this queen (Khorsemis), The Khorsemians.
5 A.N. - 34 A.N. Following the defeat of the Makurians in the south, the rest of the federation is subjected to a number of battles and disasters, ultimately leading to the collapse of the empire. The lands of Kishetal gain independence and develop into two states, Chishetal in the south (including parts of Jezaan) and Ninamalthit in the north (including most of Shabala). On a similar note, The Kingdom of Baban is able to reform though it is quickly conquered by the growing Khorsemian Empire.
14 A.N. Fapacha Remesh, successfully captures the Namutian city of Usuwt, officially marking the greatest extent of the Apunian Empire in 600 years
29 A.N. Bansa the 3rd of the Zumusahati Empire sends out the first expedition of ships across the Niwalian Ocean in 400 years, hoping to rebuild the Musahatic and Zabudic Colonies on the Ulanian Coast. 26 ships set out from the port of Labakatu. The fleet is caught in a tropical storm. It is assumed, after several months, that no one survives, until a single ship returns. On board is a representative of the Goara People, the descendants of the colonists and the Yupu people. While Bansa was unable to see the rebirth of an intercontinental empire, this does mark the return of contact between the Western and Eastern Worlds.
46 A.N. Emperor Huli of Mu adopts the philosophy of the Xianti Sages, Xiatism. The following decades see the construction of hundreds of temples and an increasingly complicated bureaucracy. In time, Xiatism is integrated into the courts of surrounding lands including Kumtai and Runashu.
88 A.N. The Dragon, Telipni, awakens and destroys the city of Duru in the lands of Orudishi. The Dragon is defeated by the Spiritblood, Gutatu.
162 A.N. The sage, Maklar of Euphoi, creates the Jalpat, a unified version of the Testaments. This version, which becomes the dominant version, describes Narul/Narolos as the son of Joyuth. Maklar is later known as The Scribe of Joyuth/Joth.
171 A.N.- 189 A.N. Ku’lara of the Ru, unites the sea nomads of the southern ocean, forming the largest forestfolk dominated civilization in Kobani’s history.
225 A.N. The Ruins of a Pre-Calamity city are discovered in southern Sinria. Nobility of the southern Sinrian kingdoms dress in imitation of the carvings and images found in the ruins. This trend lasts 200 years.
245 A.N. An earthquake shakes the Chishic city of Labisa, killing thousands, the largest earthquake in the region’s history.
257 A.N. The Volcanic Eruption of Mt. Jukaruti, the largest since the Age of Calamity, causes widespread climatic chaos. The Cholyasi Thalassocracy is destroyed almost instantly. Ash falls as far as Takala and Namut. Tsunamis and earthquakes hammer Eastern Sinria, Kai, and Du. The planet of Kobani as a whole becomes colder and drier for a short period. Tarinia is struck by a drought, which in turn leads to the collapse of the Missishikoa people. In the following centuries, the ruins of the cities became the subject of local legends. Gutatu the Spiritblood is killed in a landslide caused by falling ash.
257 A.N. - 289 A.N. In Baalkes, now the Etrusian Empire, the Etrusian King, Tarquan, uses the dark clouds produced by the eruption as an omen, and starts his invasion of Korithia. The last Korithian city, Minosa, is captured 289 A.N. by Tarquan’s son, Baat.
The Age of the Etrusian and Chishic Empires
289 A.N. Baat declares himself the first Etrusian Emperor.
289 A.N. Teth, a follower of Joyuth, arrives in Nashawey, bringing with him stories of the Divine Narolos and the Jalpat. Shortly after he founds a temple. In the Apunian, Narolos is rendered Naru.
290 A.N.- 295 A.N. The Giants of Jonluria,, migrate north, leaving their former land, to be claimed by the Nenshit. This allowed for the creation of the Nenshitian Empire, the first of the Polar Empires.
292 A.N. After two decades of civil war and strife, Enlapa is crowned Queen of Namutarbi (Formerly Namut), the first ruler of a unified Namutian people.
295 A.N. The City-States of Pijano are struck by a mysterious illness, possibly of a supernatural nature. Fear of the disease causes a mass migration to the east, allowing for the proliferation of the Rathalaro Forestfolk in the areas once controlled by Pijano.
321 A.N. - 335 A.N. Through marriage, conquest, and diplomacy, Chishetal and Ninamalthit are united into a single empire, its first ruler is Tamul the First. Tamul successfully conquered Ikopesh, bringing the new empire into contact with the Etrusians.
335 A.N. - 379 A.N. Badavarta is born in the village of Apin Ma, in the Kingdom of Hopanyu. Badavarta is raised as a practitioner of Xiatism, but as he grows, creates his own branch, Batara. Over time Batara will replace Xiatism as the dominant faith in most of Southern Macia. Badavarta is killed by a bandit while traveling between cities.
338 A.N. A Serpent attacks the island of Knosh and subsequently Apuna. While the beast is eventually killed by the efforts of more than 30 Sages, the destruction that it leaves behind severely weakens Apuna. Subsequently much of Southern Apuna is reclaimed by the Namutians.
362 A.N. - 369 A.N. Emperor Hutab of Chishetal, invades Apuna, adding it to the Chishic Empire. It is here that the Chishic Empire is introduced to their own folk hero, Narul, as the saintly figure, Naru/Narolos. The Church of Joyuth is incredibly popular among the Chishic soldiers, though they refer to Joyuth as Jutha, and Naru as his original name, Narul.
364 A.N. The Compass is invented in Runashi and quickly spreads from there.
369 A.N. - 394 A.N. In response to the Imperial actions of the Chishic Empire, The Etrusian Emperor, Patoram, funds the creation of a massive navy, the largest in the Green Sea. With this navy, Etrusia begins a campaign of expansion, this period known simply as “The Rise”, saw the conquest of Makora, Knosh, the Clay Women of Kulayu, and Dirsia.
394 A.N. - 441 A.N. Patoram is assassinated while in Dirsia, while it is likely that the actual culprit was one of his own soldiers, blame is placed on the neighboring Elusians. Thus, Patoram’s successor, Tatam, leads an invasion of their territory. Over the next decades and under the leadership of several Etrusian Emperors, much of western Kallistera would be conquered, including Ikenii, Elusia, Jani, Konlunia, and Nislia.
398 A.N. Cement is invented in Etrusian controlled Korithia.
401 A.N. The Acaniruana Mountain Kingdoms develop the Acani Script. This script will become the primary script for economic and historical records across most of Ulania for the next 1300 years. In later legends the development of the scripts is credited to the legendary king, Xalanhuemkultem.
436 A.N. The Historian, Sula, originating from a small city in Khoresmian Empire, decides to trace the journey of Narul, starting in Labisa and traveling around the Green Sea. On the island of Kosheklayu he reports finding strange underground ruins. He returns to Khoresmian, traveling to the capital in order to record his works.
438 A.N. - 510 A.N. The First Instance of the Euphoric Plague appears in the Ubalunan, the capital of the Khoresmian Empire. It will quickly spread, beyond the borders of first the city, and then the country. Between the years 438 and 510, the Euphoric Plague will claim the lives of 1/30th of all mortals(Humans, Hillfolk, Giants, and Forestfolk) living on the planet. The plague and the chaos and instability in its wake will be responsible for the collapse for multiple kingdoms and empires, most notably Khoresmia.
452 A.N. - 461 A.N. Rumors spread that the Euphoric Plague is the result of magical activities, and are thus blamed on the actions of sages. In Ubalunan, the city’s sages and their families, as well as many hillfolk and forestfolk are gathered and burned alive in the temple of the god Enkankil, approximately 640 people. Similar massacres are carried out in Chishetal, Chishic Apuna, and the Sinrian Kingdoms. In Nashawey, the Patriarch of the Joyuth Church, Teth the Fifth, uses the sudden power vacuum caused by the Execution of the Sages, to supplant rival temples, placing the Church of Joyuth at the head of the religious hierarchy. Not long after, Nashawey has its first Joyuthist ruler.
466 A.N. The First complete circumnavigation of the planet (Since the Calamity) is completed by the Ru navigator, Uk’apapuha.
476 A.N. The Bon Confederacy invades several neighboring tribes, its warriors armed with weapons of steel, the first time that the metal is used extensively in combat. In time the art of steel making will spread throughout Pyritia and into Macia and Kallistera.
513 A.N. The Matriarchs of the Gungwari, Ninkuduri, Uruninj, Waardugoi, Gumwarnugoi, and Amanwonguri gather for a meeting in response to drought and the rampage of the monstrous, Yotowie. This is the first meeting of its kind in nearly 4,000 years. Each family elects a champion to face the beast. These Six Champions, slay the beast, though only one of the original six champions survive the encounter. Iwagi’dang, the Great Hunter, becomes a cultural hero, her exploits the topic of thousands of stories. It is possible that Iwagi’dang was spirit-blooded.
521 A.N. The lens is invented in Chishetal.
528 A.N. The Etrusian Emperor, Elzad, invites cultic and religious representatives from various parts of the empire to his palace. Among the representatives are several Joyuthist scholars. Along with several other temples, Elzad permits the creation of a Joyuthist Temple in the capital of Etrusia, the first of its kind in the Etrusian Homeland. Among the Etrusians Narul is called Narulus and Joyuth is Joth.
529 A.N. - 534 A.N. The Chishic King, Akart the 4th of his Line, leads an expedition east, capturing the former lands of the Khoresmian Empire and subjugating many tribes and minor kingdoms. The Chishic Empire reaches its greatest extent. He is stopped at the Sinrian City of Gulapatan by the Spiritblood Balarshata, and is forced to abandon his efforts to conquer the Sinrian Peninsula. Gulapatan will go on to unify much of northern Sinria into the Gulpatic Kingdom, ruling for approximately 135 years before being assassinated by her own son, Mahabajan.

The Poem depicts a Mythologized version of the founding of the Arkodian Empire and later of the Korithian People. This leads to a swelling of Korithian Pride in opposition to Etrusian control. This will build and build until its eventual eruption during the Korithian Rebellion
662 A.N. The Batricids, a group of Kallisterian Warlords claiming descendancy from the Spiritblood Queen, Batricca, attack the Northern Etrusian Colonies. 769 A.N. - 1188 A.N. Construction begins on the Satlugulish Canal, the largest single construction project in the history of Tarinia since before the Calamity. The Canal is the result of collaboration between 6 distinct tribal groups, it takes 193 years to complete and the main branch stretches inland from the sea 841 miles, including the various off-shoots and branches, the canal(s) eventually cover an area of approximately 2026 miles. This allows for a boom in trade and connectivity among the Tribes and Nations of Western Tarinia. This marks the Golden Age of Tarinia, and saw the creation of new alphabets, the smelting of iron, and the creation of great desert and forest cities. This era of prosperity was only ended by several catastrophes and the rise of the Mezutal Empire in the South.

In an act of desperation the rebels send an envoy to the court of the Chishic King, Gabru. Gabru agrees to come to the aid of the Korithians and sends several warships and many men to Korithia, sparking the First Etru-Chishic War.
821 A.N. The Battle of Kalmanati sees the largest sea battle in Kobani history up until that point, 722 Warships, 321,000 sailors and warriors. The battle is ultimately a Chishic victory, however the losses were significant enough to force stop the Chishic advance, and ultimately led to their defeat.
845 A.N. The First Etru-Chishic War ends with Victory for Etrusia, though it comes at the cost of weakening influence in other parts of the Empire and Kalmanati is burnt to the ground, whether by the Etrusians or the Chishics is not entirely clear. 2001 A.N. - 2021  A faction of Chishic lords lead a coup against the emperor. The Rebels are armed with Kallisterian guns, the loyalists carry weapons of Chishic steel. Vastly outnumbered, the loyalists barricaded themselves in the city of Labisa. The siege lasts almost 20 years, ending ultimately with a victory by the rebellious lords, after the Chishic King was assassinated by a turncoat. The leader of the lords, Akurd, takes the throne as the new Chishic throne. The first 10 years of his reign will be consumed by putting down loyalist factions in Shabala and Ikopesh.
2002 A.N. The Uberian King, with the support of the Jothist Patriarch, bans the enslavement of any person born in a Jothist nation; this does not include Naludist and Joyuthist peoples. It also did not include Forestfolk. Uberian soldiers begin a campaign of enslaving Ulanian peoples, including the former occupants of Mezutal. To the outrage of the Daokipaqa, not only were they not returned to their homeland, but they are targeted for enslavement. The Daokipaqa join an alliance of several peoples against the Uberians. The conflict between the two sides will continue on for over five centuries.

Larslont continues to wage war against Yanlun in Kallistera.
2038 A.N. Yanlun and Lembris adopt the enslavement policy of Uberia. Owning a Tarinian slave and Tarinian antiquities becomes a symbol of status in Yanlun. The Dirsians and the Dochic people become famed for their abolitionist actions, acting as pirates, stopping slave ships heading for Yanlun, Uberia, and Lembris and taking the people aboard back to Dirsia. Similar pirate movements arise closer to Tarinia and Ulania, largely composed of Mabolian’s many under the pay of the throne.

2129 A.N. Chishetal and Kimersia fight over parts of eastern Shabala, resulting in the Chish-Kimersian War. Many Western Kingdoms send their support to Kimersia, as Chishetal’s control of East-West Trade in the Green Sea is seen as a threat to the economic interests of Jothist countries.
2140 A.N. The Munic Sage, Nao Tza attempts to reach space using explosives and sagecraft. He builds an iron pod with himself inside of it and launches himself skyward. While ultimately he didn’t survive the attempt, nor did he reach space, his research is influential in the creation of rocket technology, mostly for military purposes.
2151 A.N. The Chish-Kimersian War comes to an end as a stalemate.

2231 The Hammer of Joth is streamlined, made cheaper and more easily carried. Jothic Guns become the primary weapons of colonizing forces. The slaughter of Forestfolk and Spirits leads to the unification of several Tarinian nations. They follow the mysterious Sister Goddesses. It is not clear if these “Goddesses' ' are human leaders, spiritbloods, or spirits.
The Age of Rebellion and Tarinian Wars

Indosi Ships raid as far west as the Pyritian Coast and as far east as the coast of Tarinia. In many cases they are joined by the Ru.
2280 A.N. The Knights of Narolos are founded. Armed with guns and weapons of Jothic Steel, their described purpose is to kill monsters. However, in practice what is included under the moniker of “monster” is rather broad. The Knights stalk the Tarinian frontiers, Pyritia, and the Polar North, killing monsters, spirits, Spiritbloods, and forestfolk. They are particularly hostile towards Spiritbloods. Of the 23 Spiritbloods living on the planet before 2280, only 9 will still be alive by 2330.
2292 A.N. The Munic General, Daori, Lands in Zudia and almost immediately clashes with several local groups, marking the beginning of Munic imperialism in the region. The Zudian groups in the south unite into the Uruninjic Confederation, to oppose Munic efforts to expand further.
2293 A.N. The War of the Frogs comes to an end
2300 A.N. Followers of the Dirsian Independence Movement attack the Yannish capital, successfully killing the Yannish Crown Prince. The response by Yanlun is cruel and long lasting, thousands of Dirsians or “Dirsh '' are killed, starved, or kidnapped. Rather than stopping revolutionary thoughts however, it fans them. The revolutionaries continue to work in the shadows, attacking and undermining Yannish efforts on the island. Similar rebel groups form in Duclun and Montlun.
2311 A.N. The Museum of Magic and Heathenism is opened in Yanlun alongside the Yannish Academy of Sciences in celebration of the Treaty of Salisbud signed between Yanlun and Larslont.

2371 A.N. At the Battle of Coral Sands the Gumwarnugo family of Zudia is defeated by Munic Colonists. The Matriarchs of the family are sent back to Mu, marking the first instance of Zudian Enslavement.
2389 A.N. - 2402 A.N. The Lembri-Uberian War is started in response to clashing colonial interests. In time this war expands into the First Tarinian War. Yannish colonists attacked the Lembrian colony of New Lembris, hoping to capture fertile valleys. Yanlun signed a Pact of Alliance with Uberia. Ultimately the Lembrians are expelled from Tarinia, Yanlun taking their former holdings. An agreement is made between Uberia and Yanlun; Tarinia for the Yanes, Ulania for the Uberians. The Lembrian King and his family is murdered by his own soldiers shortly after agreeing to surrender.
2391 A.N. The electric telegram is invented by the Lembrian inventor, Arauld Contar.
2396 A.N. The Kiriki called Rak, is named the heir to the throne of Baban. After the Babanian king’s death, Rak is crowned thus becoming the first non-humanoid sentient individual to lead a primarily human country. The Jothist and Joyuthist Churches both condemn this as sacrilegious. The Knights of Narolos along with the Chishic Order of the Hammer both attempt to invade and kill the new king. While they are ultimately unsuccessful, Kiriki become the targets of extreme violence across Kallimacia. Their population is reduced to a third of its former extent.
2401 A.N. The First Train successfully carries passengers about ¼ mile before breaking down. In the following decades hundreds of miles of tracks will be constructed across much of Kallistera and Tarinia.
2403 A.N. - 2419 The First Yannish expedition around the world is ultimately successful though very costly. The leader of the expedition, Kan Bavmun, reports many new people and beasts, as well as a previously undocumented landmass far to the north, amongst the sea ice. He reports no signs of civilized life, save for strange ruins. He suggests by the complexity of the architecture that these ruins may have pre-dated the Calamity. This region comes to be called the Wastes. Though taken from a distance, his descriptions point to the most intact ruin of its kind in the world. This discovery kicks off a renewed interest in the Age of Glass and Metal amongst scholars. Though he made plans to return, Kan dies of an unknown disease shortly after his trip. Attempted expeditions are met with disaster. A Lembrian expedition is attacked by pirates, the entirety of the crew killed or taken hostage. Three Yannish expeditions fail, one to mutiny and the other two vanish entirely without explanation. An Etrusian expedition is reportedly destroyed by an unidentified sea-beast, according to the one survivor. In order to avoid more needless death, the Yannish Academy of Sciences declares a 100 year ban on any further expeditions, starting 2419. The Jothist church of Etrusia makes a similar ban on any entities which may seek funding from the Academy of Nima.
2425 A.N. The first wired radio and the telephone are invented by the Chishic inventor, Saru.
2427 A.N. The Palluyidic author, Namuni, writes “The Mutations” which reports to record every observed Forestfolk, Monster, and other magically altered being in the world. It has 2,437 entries. 665 of these entries will be rendered extinct by the time a second edition is published by his great great grandson.
2434 A.N. A new outbreak of the Euphoric Plague rocks Kallimacia. Scientific cures prove ineffective. The Etrusian Jothist priest, Kampidan, seemingly through the power of faith alone is successful in curing an afflicted person of the disease, the first case of a cured individual ever.Thousands flock to the priest. A new branch of Jothism forms around him, Zelatorical Jothism, it focuses on evangelism and extreme dogmatism.
2456 A.N. Zelatorical Jothists open the first “Narolic Academy” a school meant to re-educate Tarinian children with Yannish culture and the Zelatorical conception of Narolos (Narul) and Jothism. This first school pays 3 Yannish Kupers per child brought to the school, the equivalent of three days of work for the average factory worker. Hundreds of Tarinian children are captured, so many that more schools are opened across the Yannish Colonies.
2469 A.N. The Trackless Steam Carriage is invented. Battery powered vehicles will follow soon behind.
2476 A.N. The Namutian historian and scientist, Qarud, tracks the origins of the Euphoric Plague to the Island of Kosheklayu, off the coast of Chishetal. Shortly after reporting these findings at a conference in Etrusia, he is found in his room, dead.
2481 A.N. Following years of protests, Yanlun bans slavery, though only in the mainland, the colonies are exempt. There is no such ban on “ indentured servants.”
2484 A.N. The Jamunese inventor, Ikro Mongowa, and his partner, the Nichlernian, Fradruch Hangel, create  the first wireless radio. It is effective over only 4 miles. The second and third models will more than triple this range.
2486 A.N. The Theory of Planes is created by the Etrusian scientist, Eractom. It suggests that the other mortal worlds may not share the same solar system as Kobani, but rather may exist on separate but connected planes. It is theorized that it might be possible to travel across these planes.
2497 A.N. A representative of the Southern Giant Clan makes the journey to the North Pole, marking the first interaction between the two clans in several centuries.
2503 A.N. The Gulinbarg Radio transmitter, invented by Baff Gulinbarg using Chishic steel components, expands the transmission range of radios by 800%, approximately 114 miles.
2508 A.N. The Coast of Mu is struck by the Great Quake of 2508 and subsequently by several tsunamis. Tens of thousands die. Following this, Zudian slaves, using the chaos, rebel, leading to a confrontation at the Red Dam. The Zudian slaves are massacred, however the story of the revolt spreads across Kobani, the Zudian Rebels becoming symbolic of resistance in places like Ulania, Tarinia, and Dirsia.
2519 A.N. The Ban on Expeditions to the Wastes is lifted. The Yannish explorer, Hal Roost volunteers as the first person to take the journey. He and a crew of twenty set off from Yanlun. They stop in Tarinia and sail through the Mezutalian Strait. They are last seen at a Vjordic settlement on the western Tarinian coast. They are not heard from again and are assumed to be dead or otherwise lost.
2524 A.N. A starving and badly injured figure washes up on a piece of driftwood near the Vjordic town of Huelbar. He claims to be a manservant of Hal Roost, and reports that his master is in fact still alive, trapped in the ruins of an ancient city. Reports of this are sent back to the Yannish Academy. They are initially met with skepticism. Later that same year a Jamunese fishing vessel picks up a radio signal coming from the north. The voice claims to be Hal Roost.
2525 A.N. A second Yannish expedition and now a rescue mission, is officially approved.

Writing Check-In
Oops, it's September already. Let's drop the next writing check-in. Here is the last one from August:
Active WIPs (as in: I'm actively working on those)
With Silver Part of the With-Verse, my Viggorli vampire-AU. I needed to rewrite a part in the middle and add in an OC. I actually managed to do that in August, so the story is pratically finished. I even did a first round of clean-ups. Usually I let a story "lie" for a bit and then draw it up again to look at it with fresh eyes. But basically: This is finished and will be posted eventually. It just needs some minor tinkering.
Anniversary (working title) This is a 1500 word Viggorli AU. More or less a short domestic scene, I'll not tell you anything more, because I don't want to spoil the plot. It is part of a bigger AU idea I've been mulling over. I'm still at the stage where I'm trying to make the characters work, so I used this as an excuse to explore the character dynamics. I wrote this basically in one go, but I've been tinkering with it ever since - adding and deleting stuff as the AU idea develops further.
Broken Wings (working title) This would be the larger Viggorli AU Anniversary belongs to. I've written two scenes so far and have done a lot of research and general plotting. I do have a two week vacation coming up (yay me), in which I want to dig deeper into this world and get some writing done. Let's see what happens. I like the idea a lot, because it shuffles around how Viggo and Orlando are usually written in LOTRPS (but it's totally how I write my Aragorn and Legolas, so I'm sticking to my guns). No idea if anyone even would want to read this, but I want to write it and I'm totally prepared to take this as far as it goes.
WIPs on hiatus (as in: on the backburner, but they will most probably come back)
The Way North (working title) Yepp, still on hiatus. Aragorn and his female OC (don't worry, this won't be a romance) are still sitting quietly on my harddrive awaiting further inspiration.
First Meeting (working title) This is also still on hiatus. My friend's last attempt to rescue my USB drive failed (freezer), so I'm still back on square one with my A/L first meeting story. This is so depressing.
Dol Guldur (working title) Yes, I actually managed to start a story in August to then promptly put it on hiatus. This was meant to be a Teitho entry and I've written three pages so far, but then the aforementioned Viggorli AU took up all my brain-space and all other inspiration has flown out the window since then. It's most annoying.
Finished Stories (as in, will post eventually)
Live and Let Die This A/L darkfic AU is still on the horizon. It is finished and is just waiting for the days to grow shorter and darker. Also, it could still use some beta-work. So if someone isn't afraid of something really depressing, give me a call :)

HDM Season 1 Episode 2:
So far the child actors have been pretty good! That's always a crapshoot, and given the nature of the story, they can't age them up very much. I bet they had a blast shooting some of the early scenes running around Oxford. The children yearn for the catacombs.
(Speaking of which, Asriel bringing back (allegedly) Grumman's head makes a lot more sense with the reminder that scholars are buried that way.)
Outside of Oxford, the world looks very modern. It's not quite clear what era it is in Lyra's world since their tech developed so differently from ours. Are the calendars running in perfect parallel to Will's world? If they ever mentioned who's on the throne that would help, but I don't think they ever do. Is there even a king/queen, or is it just the Magisterium?
Following Roger's experiences being stolen and the gyptians' quest to find the missing children is a good adaptational move. In the book we're told the gyptians have been working on this, but here we see it, which reinforces that they don't just show up when the plot needs to get Lyra North somehow.
The show is doing a lot of work to set Mrs. Coulter up as a complex character early. She comes across as way more overtly villainous in book one. Frankly the actress might be overdoing it with some of her tortured pauses. Also lmao at Lyra getting hired/adopted and during her first breakfast her new boss/mom mentions she wants to kill herself sometimes. Lyra: … Anyway starts eating breakfast
While Mrs. Coulter seems to want Lyra as a decorative ornament in the book, it seems like she's more interested in training her as a minion here.
Ma Costa is a lot more distraught than she was in the book but honestly, fair. Her child is missing. And it's possible she just did a good job of hiding her emotions from Lyra so as to not stress her out more.
The religious symbol for the Magisterium looks quite sinister! And sort of like a biohazard sign. If this is a legit piece of Catholic iconography, sorry.
The show is drawing a lot of attention to Mrs. Coulter being able to go a large distance from her daemon. That's hinted at once or twice in the first book, but I don't remember it ever being explained? They're not severed, because iirc they almost sever them to power a bomb in a later book. Since the sequel series either retconned (uncharitable) or expanded (charitable) the lore about how frequent separation is, maybe that's the case here. She certainly has enough internal conflict for it to be a possibility.
Wow, we're dropping the Lord Boreal dual identities worldhopping situation early. I thought that would be a much later reveal. It explains something though - I thought it was odd that we didn't see his daemon much in earlier scenes, but I suppose he's in the habit of hiding it.
That's a different way of doing the dad reveal! Lessens the lore dumps later on, I suppose
Ok, they did the Mrs. Coulter scene later. I think that steals a lot of the punch, but it lets new viewers stew in trying to figure out how dangerous she is longer. I'm not sure why the kids would buy her sales pitch after they got dragged away with nets, though.
Whoah, they actually killed the journalist? Good way to establish the rules of killing someone's daemon, I suppose.
What's the deal with the hypnotic fox daemon? I don't remember anything like that.

Extinction (Zosan X reader)
Plot: While exploring a snow island the crew uncover an extinct Gnoph-Keh that awakens and tries to distory everything.
The creature is based off Lovecraft stories and thank you to @being-worthy for the suggestion <3. Zoro X Sanji X Reader, poly relationship, established relationship, Reader is GN.
Warning: bad language, Violence and Blood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nami wanted to make a map of the island even though it was freezing cold and the snow was up to you knees, only a few crew members were willing to help while the rest of you needed some convincing. Chopper was happy to help, he's used to snow so doesn't mind going around the island while Luffy just wanted to explore. Nami used her charm to get Sanji help out and her friendship with you and Robin to get the two of you on board, you can't really say no to her. Since you and Sanji were going Zoro deiced to go using the excuse that he wanted to get off the ship for a while. Brook tried to hide away but Nami promised him she would show him her panties, and he was on board, even though you all knew she wouldn't in the end. Usopp refused but with Luffy nagging him to come along and Nami asking if he was sacred he gave a big speech before agreeing to go. Franky was the only one to stand his ground wanting to stay on the ship to look after it, Nami gave up after that since everyone else was going now.
Nami handed everyone some paper, pen, a compass and a watch before telling each of you what to do before heading off in your groups. Nami, Luffy and Usopp where a team heading to the east of the island, you felt a little sorry for Nami as she walked off the two goofballs following her and throwing snow balls at each other. Robin, Chopper and Brook went off together heading to the west, Chopper was in his element but had to sit on Robins shoulders since the snow was too deep and too soft for him to walk on. You, Sanji and Zoro headed off through the middle heading north Sanji making the swordsman hold onto his belt as not to wonder off. As you walked through the snow you jotted down land marks in the book and times so Nami could work out later how close or far things are. Your coat and snow boots kept you warm from the cold but with the snow up to your knees you found it a little hard to walk. Your pace was slow but you stayed in front the two boys following behind talking about something while you were busy with the paper in your gloved hands.
"Y/N, what do you think?" Sanji's voice caught you off guard turning to face him only to trip over your own feet in the snow. Sanji's and Zoro's hands grab your arm stopping you from hitting the snow, you blush with embarrassment standing up straight and sighing "Sorry was in my own head" you look down as their hands let go of your arm. Zoro lets out a laugh walking closer and digging through the snow to pick up a pen you dropped before handing it to you. "I didn't mean to scare you love" Sanji walks over taking your gloved hand "No it's ok... what where you saying?" you ask hoping to put the embarrassing incident behind you. "I was asking about what to cook for dinner. Pasta or a deep dish?" he asks taking your hand and walking through the snow with you and Zoro. "Urm... i don't know, whatever you cook will be great" you smile looking up at him as he puts a cigarette in his mouth.
"I was asking you since i can't decide" he sighs pulling out his lighter which you grab off him. Stopping in your tracks with him you flick the lighter on and hold it up to him, so he can light his cigarette in the cold wind "Pasta then" you smile watching him take a puff of his cigarette. He takes the lighter back putting it in his pocket before kisses your cheek, taking your hand and walking. "Zoro, take their belt" The Cook smiles watching the swordsman sigh and grumble something under his breath grabbing your coat belt as he walks next to you. You hold back a laugh at his grumpy face as you make your way through the snow, once in a while letting go of Sanji's hand to write stuff down.
You had made it to the other side of the island looking over the froze ocean in front of you, Sanji and Zoro took a break on a rock nearby while you wrote down what you could "Come on baby, sit down for a while" Zoro calls out as he lies on his back atop the rock, his hands behind his head "In a minute... i just need to get these measurements down" you call back not taking your eyes off the papers in front of you. In front of you was a frozen over pond, the blue ice thick but you didn't dare stand on it so you made your way around it as carefully as you could. Sanji's eyes were glues to you, he didn't know what you were looking at and wanted to go over, but he feared Zoro might wonder off while he's gone. "What is it?" he calls out watching you finally look up form the papers. "Some kind of frozen pond" you call out seeing his worried face "Don't worry i'm no where near it" you call out before he can panic, he relaxes a bit but still stays on guard. You laugh to yourself pulling out the watch from your pocket noting the time.
Giving the pond one last look you walk around it and back to the boys only for a loud crack behind you to sound out, echoing through the island. You turn looking behind you not seeing anything as Sanji and Zoro get up and walk over "You ok?" Sanji calls out running up to you "Yea... I don't think that was form around here. Maybe one of the others" The cook pulls you close to him, his fear was you stepped on frozen ice under the snow. Zoro walks up next to you two and nods "Yea your right" he listens out everything so quiet as you three listen out for anymore. A scream echo's out and you notice it as Usopp's, your body moves before you can even think, running towards the sound avoiding the pond on your way. Zoro and Sanji run after you soon catching up, the sound of yelling and fighting gets louder along with the air getting colder. It isn't long until you see Luffy punching a giant polar bear but as it swipes at your captain you notice it has six arms and a large horn on its head.
Zoro gets his swords out and runs ahead of you two slicing at the bear sending it flying back into the snow. "Zoro" Usopp yells happily before turning to you and Sanji as you stop next to him "Where's Nami?" Sanji asks looking around not seeing the Navigator "She went down there, that thing came out of the ground and hit Nami into it" Usopp points to the big hole in the floor, you and Sanji run up to it and look down, its deep but you can see the bottom, there's no one down there though "Nami?" you yell out but get no answer back. Panic hits you as you look up to see Zoro and Luffy fighting the bear. "Usopp vines" you look over the sniper who jumps a little before nodding using one of his bullets to make vines grow out of the ground and stretch down into the hole. Throwing the stuff in your hands to the side, You and Sanji use the vines to climb down to the bottom, its much colder than up top but you push through wanting to find Nami, you know the boys will keep the bear away so all you have to worry about is finding your navigator. Hitting the bottom you notice hot rocks, a few sticks on the floor and a half cooked fish "Im guessing Luffy couldn't wait for dinner" you comment looking at Sanji before looking around the ice cave you were now in. "Nami-swan?" Sanji calls out the sound echoing off the walls making it louder.
A low growl echo's through the cave as a large bear with a horn and six legs walks out of one of the large holes, its big paws slamming into the ice floor cracking it a little. You eyes widen when you see the white fur on its face coated in red and a piece of fabric caught in its mouth. Sanji see's red running up to the bear and kicking it out of the way, its large body hits the side of the cave cracking the ice to show hard rock. "I'll get Nami" you run past Sanji and through the large hole following the trail of blood and ripped fabric that the bear left behind. Sanji went after the bear again before it could get back up, bringing his foot down on its face "That's for nami" he yells out only for its large clawed hand to slap him away sending him skidding along the ice. The large bear gets up on its hind legs letting out a loud roar making the cook cover his ears form the loud sound, Luckily he manages to dodge when the horned bear runs at him hoping to spear him, its sharp horn hitting the other side of the cave "Sanji" Usopp yells down now seeing the large bear down bellow.
Zoro slices the bear as Luffy punches it, its large paw coming down to try and hit them as they attack, the force sends all of them back, snow flying through the air at the force. At hearing Sanji's name being called he gets distracted looking back to the hole where Usopp is, the sniper looking down biting his nails a little. The bear rushes him trying to spear the man only for Luffy to punch its head aside missing Zoro. "Sorry" The swordsman shakes his head, cursing himself for getting distracted during a fight. Luffy only laughs at the man before running at the bear again the swordsman by his side, slashing and kicking the bear. With one strong swing Zoro cuts the bears horn off as Luffy kicks it up into the air. Both of them step back as the bear falls from the sky slamming into the ground, the snow falling around it covering it up slightly. Luffy laughs seeing the bears dizzy and dazed face, its tongue hanging out its mouth seeming to have given up.
It wasn't long until you found Nami, running over you look her over, her eyes half open and reaching out a hand to you which you take "It's ok, we'll be back to the sunny in no time" you smile taking off your belt and wrapping it under her armpit. The bear has torn up her arm, the thick coat she was wearing protected her form a lot of damage but there was still a lot of blood. Pulling tight Nami yells out in pain but you keep going until the bleeding stops, tying it so it stays you brush some of her hair out of her face "Your doing great just stay awake for me" you smile down at her earning a weak smile back. Picking her up into your arms, her legs around your waist and her chest pressed against yours with her good arm wrapped around your neck. Her injured arm hangs lip at her side as you carry her through the cave, one hand under her and the other presses against her back. "Im cold" Nami whispers her face in your shoulder "We'll get you warmed up soon" you sooth only stopping when you hear an explosion.
Sanji fights off the creature managing to dodge its attacks, his mind was on you and Nami though hoping to defeat this thing before you both get back. "Sanji move" Usopp yells pulling back an exploding star in his sling shot, Sanji's eyes widen before jumping out the way and into another hole as the sniper fires, the ball hitting the bear in the face and exploding. It shakes the cave a bit as ice falling off the cave wall but most of the damage was done to the bear, its back presses against the wall, passed out cold. Sanji walks out and fixes his hair before looking up "You could have killed me" The cook yells angry at the sniper who jumps a little only for Luffy to walk over and pat him in the back "Nice job Usopp" Usopp smiles at his captain and rubs his nose starting to brag. Zoro looks down seeing Sanji but not you or Nami, he was about to ask where you both were when you come into view carrying Nami.
Stepping out of the hole and into the large open area you see the bear passed out against the wall and Sanji running over to you two "Oh no Nami-Swan" he looks over the girl who clings to you. "We need to get her to chopper" you comment snapping the cook out of his worries as you walk over to the vines, there no way you or Sanji can carry her up the vines "Hay Luffy.... can you take her" you yell up getting the captain's attention away form Usopp, Luffy nods and stretches his arms taking Nami off you and bringing her up as you and Sanji start climbing. Once up top you notice the other bear in the snow, its eyes dizzy as it lays there. You giggle a little at its stupid looking face as Luffy puts Nami on Sanji's back. "You ok Nami?" Usopp asks looking worried for his friend, the navigator only mumbles as you all start walking back to the ship. You picked up everyone's map making stuff knowing Nami would kill you if you left it behind, even if you did save her life she wouldn't be happy with you.
Nami was lucky, before you all got to the ship Chopper, Robin and Brook showed up, they ran form the other side of the island once they heard all the yelling, Chopper was quick to look at Nami as they walked to the ship and got her into the medical room where Chopper fixed her up. She had a fever and almost her whole arm was bandaged up, but she was awake and talking so you all relaxed. Sanji made soup for everyone and made an extra big bowl for the Navigator who was told to stay in bed for the rest of the day. Chopper stayed with Nami while the rest of you were in the kitchen eating and drinking, listening to Usopp tell the exaggerated story making most of you laugh. "It sounds like you fought a Gnoph-Keh" Robin smiles making you all look at her confused "A what?" Usopp asks only for Robin to giggle "It's a very old creature that people believe went extinct decades ago". Usopp raises a hand to Luffy who does the same "We'll they definitely are now thanks to us" The sniper yells with a smile as he high fives Luffy "Yea we did" Luffy yells back.
Zoro rolls his eyes at them and puts an arm around you pulling you into him. You lay your head on his shoulder and pat his chest, they didn't kill the bears they just knocked them out and you all knew it, well except for Luffy and Usopp. Sanji finally takes a seat next to Zoro leaning back in the chair and smoking the last of his cigarette as everyone went back to talking about other things. Zoro finishes his drink and pulls Sanji closer "Needy" The cook comments with a smug smile only for the swordsman to give him a stern look "Your warm, i'm cold" Both of you know he's lying but Sanji shrugs putting his cigarette out and leaning into the man. "Don't worry we'll warm you right up" The cook whispers into Zoro's ear making him groan a little in annoyance but you could tell he wasn't by how he pulls you both closer.

Eric Hananoki at MMFA:
Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson is reportedly facing calls to drop out of his race due to an impending bombshell story that could torpedo his candidacy. Some of Robinson's biggest supporters have been prominent right-wing media figures, including people Donald Trump Jr., Dan Bongino, and Charlie Kirk.  Robinson is a right-wing commentator who became lieutenant governor of North Carolina in January 2021. He has a history of toxic remarks, including about women and LGBTQ people.  Media Matters previously uncovered that Robinson claimed in 2018 that Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby were victims of a left-wing “plot” to destroy them for their “so-called sexual crimes.” Robinson also called on his followers to “stand up against” the supposed “plot to build up a climate of fear, to shut people's mouths.” Media Matters also reported that he said mass shootings are “karma” for allowing abortion. Despite his well-known history of extremist remarks, Robinson has gotten support from numerous Republicans. That list includes former President Donald Trump, who endorsed him by claiming he’s “Martin Luther King on steroids.”
Right-wing media commentators have heaped praise on scandal-ridden far-right North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R), who is running for Governor.

The AFFC discarded outline doesn’t confirm QITN as many Stansa’s are already theorizing about (somehow it’s also Jonsa’s foreshadowing??) but it does confirm that she wasn’t meant to stay in the Vale as Lady and will eventually head North, once her chosen plot concludes to that point, which feels like it’ll happen end of TWOW. Especially with Sansa chosen plot (not one completely scraped ten years ago that fans are suddenly using as justification of show!Sansa who was a mash of five other character arcs and confirmation of her book plot) still holds massive hurdles for her to overcome
With Cersei, her bounty, marriage to Tyrion which affect her ability to inherit and proving her identity to the Northmen who believe she’s dead and will need proof after Jeyne is revealed, along with Stannis adamant about her not inheriting. If she does go North currently, alone she’ll die because of Winter growing more intense in the North and to march a Vale army if she gains them will require massive movement during the harshest Winter that’ll cause great loss to their army much like Stannis’ situation heading to Winterfell.
The discarded AFFC outline feels like it confirms the potential of a succession crisis once the Starks start popping up in the North will all their claims being pushed by different people with different agendas.
I agree that there will be a succession crisis, but I disagree that the outline confirms it because the elements have always been there in the story. "Arya's" marriage to Ramsay is being used to hold Winterfell, Wyman Manderly is preparing to back Rickon, Jon is legitimized by Robb's will, LF is trying to use Sansa's claim, and Bran is the Heir whose return is imminent. While some things are up in the air (Wyman's fate, when Bran is returning, the validity of Sansa's claim via Robb's will, etc.) it's very unlikely that all of this would be dropped so that only one Starklings claim is valid. That also doesn't mean that every Starkling's claim will be equally considered though, and I think the bulk of the conflict will be between Rickon, Bran, and Jon (I don't think either Arya or Sansa are heading North before the end of TWOW). As far as the outline interpretation...it's dubious at best.
Tumblr media
There's no way I would interpret this as "take the North" if it hadn't been presented as such first. While it very well could say this, even the OP admits they could've gotten things wrong because of how hard George's writing was to read. And if it does say this, it's most likely in reference to LF laying out his plan to Sansa in AFFC. Outside of the death of the Mad Mouse, I don't think it tells us any more about Sansa's arc than we already know from AFFC and her TWOW sample chapter. There's just nothing compelling enough for me to change my previous predictions about where Sansa's story is heading.

the civil war update pt. 2
In this update for the civil war we continue to see the moving pieces of the North and efforts of the lords and ladies to protect their lands and their people, the efforts to keep North going. Owen knows that wisdoms have called for a long summer, his heart worries about the winter. Winter is always coming.
House Bolton
Princess Consort Glorie Bolton is currently in Winterfell handling matters of coin for the efforts against the umber cause. via raven she's sent for Bolton forces still loyal to her to join Stark factions at points where they're needed most along with sending smaller forces to aid the glover troops in Manal's recovery per his request. She is also handling the recovery of the iron banks repayment from the attack on the Manderly vessel. it is a matter that may require travel despite orders to remain in Winterfell, and she is prepared to do so. @northernglorie
The Hugors
The Formation of Seven worshipers has become a tale whispered among the people of White Harbor, hushed tones and quiet admiration for the strange men of the East who have taken the acts of the little King personally. Wearing black from head to toe, only their eyes are visible if one is lucky enough to see who brings them death. The Tales have reached the King of the North who has decided they are a special force and it will be written that they act on the orders of the Gods and their King.
The Hugors have taken to using the gorilla tactics often used by those of the Neck. Cloaking themselves in darkness they move through the black night of the North and poison water, seat food, and kill all they can reach in the camps without raising the alarm. They are leaving many camps sick, hungry, and bloodied.
The Warg King and Prince of the Night
King Owen Stark and his brother, @crreganstark, are establishing a hold as they fight their way to Castle Black. In THE BATTLE OF THE CAT the King was nowhere to be seen then his direwolf, Smoke, came charging in alongside Bandit, as the wolves took down horsed men, none noticed the King on the hill, his eyes rolled back as the great shadow cat descended on a Umber cousin, mauling him to death as the men around him ran.
"It's the corpse queen, risen again."
Meera Reed (@northernseer) has returned from the dead so say the rumors and with those rumors come whispers of the same sorcery used to trick Night's King in the Age of Heroes, that she will drain the life from Brandon Karstark ( @wintervsuns ) and make him twisted as that nameless King. As the Duke of Karhold protects his lands, his word is getting far more confusing.

hi, happy wbw!! tell me about the climate in your world!! are the seasons anything like ours, or are they completely different? what is the weather like?
OH MY GOSH??? I have been sitting on this ask since... JULY??? What?? I AM SO SORRY. I think I was waiting until I got further into draft 3 of WIPVII because this is the draft where I planned to actually finalize these details.
I haven't heard from you in a while my friend, so maybe my answering this will summon you? please? Henry misses his number one fan<3
This WIP is very low fantasy - no magic, no mythical creatures, nothing that doesn't also exist in our world what so ever - so I got lazy and decided there was absolutely no reason I couldn't just make the climate/biome that the story takes place in very similar to the one I live in. The goods news is I can get really hyper-specific with the descriptions because I spent a lot of time in forest growing up. (It also makes the story feel more self-insert-y, which is always a plus hehe).
Flora
The only difference between the biome/ecosystems in this story and versus where I live IRL is that I live in North America and this story takes place in two-ish countries loosely inspired by England, Scotland, Wales, Breton, and Western France. The weather where I live is similar enough but I tried to only include plants that grow around my home that also grow in those regions of Europe (most are considered invasive species where I live - holly, ivy, broom, yew trees etc).
Seasons (temperature, daylight, rain, frost, leaf colours, lunar cycle)
To keep things consistent I decided just pretend that the lunar cycle in this world lined up with the lunar cycle in our world from September 15th, 2023 (a night with a new moon) to October 31st, 2023 (the hunter's moon). This way I could map out my plot on a calendar and make sure every time I describe a moon or tide it was in the right phase. It also helped me keep track of daylight hours and seasonal changes.
When the story starts, like the climate where I live, it is late summer and everything is yellow and tinder-dry. Then within a few days the rains start (beginning of fall) and come on and off every few days for the rest of the story. It'll rain fairly hard most of the day (there isn't a specific time of day that is more likely) and then it will stop as suddenly as it started.
The weather is warm at the beginning of the story. Warm enough that my main character, who has just swam through the ocean and is now wandering naked in a forest, is able to get dry pretty quick and is not at high-risk of hypothermia (everything is also so dry it is also easy for her to light a fire).
As the story progresses the days grow shorter, the leaves start to change and fall, the streams go from dried up to flooded, the berries shrivel up and rot, the temperature drops, and by the end of the story there is frost on the ground first thing in the morning. I think there the first snowfall happens in the very last scene... but I can't remember... I haven't read it in a while. If it does, the snow doesn't stick (just like home! *cries*)
Winds (and fog)
Most of the story takes place in a hilly region of woodland which is sandwiched between two mountain ranges (north to northwest and far north east), vast plains (east and north), an ocean straight (south), and open ocean (southwest). So there are some serious winds here and some of then occur daily like clockwork. I actually drew a map to help me keep track of them.
[I don't have my reference map with me as I type this so these might be inaccurate but to give you a sense:]
First thing in the morning a shrill wind and fog roll off the open sea (from the southeast).
Around midmorning as the air warms a second, warmer wind, comes in from the southern straight.
There's a midafternoon chill which is actually a very gentle wind caused by sunlight cooling in the shadow of the northwestern mountains.
Then there is an evening wind from the northeast which is much stronger, having picked up momentum on the plains.
Sometime in early October a really strong, harsh wind also arrives from due north where it has been able to pick up a lot of momentum travelling over the steppes. When that wind comes it basically stays for weeks and doesn't stop blowing.
All these winds (and the fog) are inspired by winds that exist around where I live. But are exacerbated by the plains and the mountains. (There are mountains where I live but they aren't as close by). There aren't really any plains until the other side of the Rockies... which is a whole province away. But there are a lot of hills and small mountains.
Thanks, as always, for the ask, friend<333

Barranquilla, Columbia
After weeks of other circumstances interrupting their initial plan, they had eventually found their way to Columbia where the last clue had let them to.
'Los Ladrones' was the name of a beach in a big forest area right next to Barranquilla. The Rio Magdalena deviding the city from it. Big lakes and swamps filling the well vegetated area. And north-east of it in the middle of a lake, there was 'Isla de Corazón'.
However, they hadn't been able to come too far, when unexpected visitors having distracting them once again. Although perhaps they should've foreseen them not leaving them alone for too long.
"I see eight." Jimin lowered the binoculars and sat up from his laying position. Propping his back against a rock. "How did they even find out?"
"Maybe you told them when they drugged you?" Yoongi shrugged, also lowering his binoculars. Glancing at him with raised brows to which the younger guy frowned. Becoming insecure about himself for a moment. "You think so?"
"Maybe, who knows. I wouldn't blame you though."
Honestly, he didn't remember doing anything like that. He did remember offering the info in exchange of them dropping the 'job', but since Kir had refused, he hadn't revealed this information. As far as he remembered. After all, his memories went blank when it came to anything after that pill she had initially given him.
"I also count eight men," Taehyung mumbled then, zooming in more, "No, actually ten."
Another loud explosion went off in the distance. Smoke rising among plants. They frowned at the sight of it. "These idiots are just using explosives anywhere huh?"
"I knew even pops wouldn't be able keeping them locked up for too long," Arabella sighed, "Their mates probably helped them escape. They always got backup plans."
She snatched the binoculars from Taehyung then, earning a groan from him. However, she got curious and also wanted to see what was going on exactly. Zooming into the large group of black-dressed people when her eyes fell on a particular person. Her brows knitting together as she kept herself from gasping. "Is this - is this the woman you were talking about?"
"Yeah," Jimin responded, hand gliding through his hair at the unpleasent memory. "Her name's-"
"Kir, I know."
"Oh, you know her?" He didn't know why he sounded so surprised. After all it wasn't the first time she had recognised someone of them. After all, she had spent a large part of her life as one of them. And yet, when he noticed Arabella's jaw clenching at his question, he couldn't help but wonder if there was more to it.
"Yeah, I remember her," she eventually spoke up. She swallowed hard then as a flood of memories ran in front of her mind's eye.'From now on, you don't have a family. You don't have anything.' - It was hard to forget someone like that.
Lowering the binoculars, she handed them back to Taehyung. Absentmindedly staring to the direction of their opponents, then at her silver bracelet and Jimin eyed her worried, noticing the drop in her expression.
"The only good thing is they haven't reached the right area yet." He nodded at Yoongi's remark, averting his eyes from Arabella. He stood up then, offering his hands to his friends to pull themselves up. "They're close though, so let's keep moving before they do."

'Heart-Island', which sadly wasn't heart-shaped nor had anything else that would indicate the choice of its name, was as it seemed, just some kind of entrance. A deep cave leading them subterranean into catacombs, with the occasional sounds of explosions and small quakes accompanying them. Meaning Kir and her men weren't too far away from their position and nearing them faster than they had expected.
"Creepy pirate statues - check. Carved stairs - check. I think it's save to say we're in a pirate cave," Taehyung chuckled as they climbed down the stairs.
The rocky ground and narrow paths making it difficult at some parts, but they continued past chasms and pointy rocks until reaching a dead-end. Reaching a wall with a small hole on one side. It looked like you were supposed to put your hand in it, so Jimin reached inside and frisked around. "A little slimy but.. there's a lever."
"Then give it a pull."
He frowned at Taehyung. "It might be a trap!"
"So what?"
"I'll lose a hand??"
His friend grinned. "So we'll get you a nice hook. Like a real pirate."
Yoongi and Arabella couldn't help but stifle a laugh at this, contrary to Jimin who was quite unamused by that option. Shooting him a dead glare.
"Just give it a pull already," Yoongi complained then, getting tired and inpatient of standing there instead of continuing.
The younger guy rolled his eyes. "Nice hook.." he repeated Taehyung's words under his breath, peeking at Arabella who was staring at him with expecting eyes. And he gulped. Eventually doing as he was told with a shaky sigh. "Alright, I'll give it a go."
Thankfully pulling the lever didn't cost him his hand. The only thing that happened was the wall giving in, revealing a door which they entered. On the other side being another wall with an imposing looking contraption, giant stone-wheel and chains running from it to cogs, blocking their way anew.
'For those proven worthy, the treasure awaits. For those who prove false, behold your grim fate.' Arabella read out loudly the inscription on a pillar.
"Oh great, another puzzle," Taehyung mumbled under his breath, taking a closer look on it. There was another hole in the wall with probably another lever inside. This one clearly being a trap this time. Obviously, otherwise there wouldn't be that big contraption next to it. His eyes caught something like a string hanging out of the hole and without thinking much, he pulled at it. An eery scratching echoing came from behing the wheel then, flowing through the cave.
"Taehyung, what the fuck!" Arabella exclaimed panicked, taking a step back and went behind Jimin - who really took pride of that.
"What?" Taehyung rolled his eyes and shrugged then. "Suck it and see."
Another clicking noise was heard then, getting everyone's attention back.
"Are we gonna die now?" Yoongi nervously joked, looking around to see if there was any sign of danger. The grip on his sword tightening. However, all their worries seemed redudant, at least for now, because nothing seemed to happen after all. Only the inner wheels of the mechanism turned, revealing symbols on the stone-wheel.
Taehyung took a step forward, inspecting them from his lower position. "Okay, these are clearly the zodiac signs of someone, but who?"
Arabella shrugged as she stepped forward to take a look at them as well. "I'd go with the one who hid the treasure here in the first place - Anne Bonney."
"That'd be one. But whose are the others?"
"Calico Cat's and Mary Read's, obviously," Jimin said then. "Does anyone remember which belongs to who though?"
They looked at each other, shaking heads. "I did read their birth dates when we first researched about them, but I forgot," Taehyung admitted shyly, scratching his neck. Yoongi sighed then, taking a small notebook out from the back of his pocket. "I knew noting down would be helpful.." He browsed inside, stopping at a page then. "Oh! Anne's was one day before mine."
"So pisces like you," Jimin remarked with a smirk, which the older guy chose to ignore. Continuing, "Jack's was 26th December."
"Oh!" Taehyung exclaimed enthusiastically then, "A capricorn, like me!"
"And Mary's.. unknown."
Arabella snorted sarcastically. "Like mine."
They exchanged a glance. The coincidence quite astonishing, and a little bit creepy, in a way.
"Well, that makes me the misfit, I guess," Jimin laughed under his breath. Redirecting his focus on the cypher. "But that means the pisces one should be on top. The capricorn on the right and.. the third one's.. a taurus?"
"Maybe Mary was a taurus after all."
"When did Mary die?" Arabella asked then, looking at Yoongi who quickly checked his notes.
"28th April."
She hummed, making a thinking expression which Jimin couldn't help but find incredibly attractive. "That'd be taurus. Perhaps she took her date of death instead?"
"Possible."
"My smart girl," Jimin grinned, making her blush for a moment before she waved him off.
"Anyway," Taehyung said then, taking a glance at the wheel again. "The signs are in the wrong positions."
He walked up to the cogwheels then, noticing a handle on them which he simply spun. And indeed, by turning them he rotated the puzzle wheels until reaching the correct positions. It clicked again. Everyone waiting expectingly.
"Is it solved now?" Arabella asked confused.
"Not sure.."
"Well, there's only one way to find out. Someone has to pull the lever in the hole there," Yoongi said, pointing at it. To which Jimin shot him an annoyed look. "And with 'someone' you mean me."
"Obviously."
Dragging a sigh, Jimin walked up to the hole. Taking a deep breath then, trying to trust in them and their puzzle solving skills. "Here goes my hand," he nervously chuckled before pulling it. The wall around it giving in again, revealing an exit much to his relief. And they left the area and walked into a cavern.
Sunlight illuminating it from its open end, sea water flowing in there as well. Creating a bay inside the cavern. It seemed like the underground path had led them all the way from the forest to the shore. And as they neared the edge of the cliff they were standing on, their eyes grew wide.
There it was, the ship.
Another explosion above them interrupting their awe, shaking the ground above them. The others were also near.
"Let's go."

Pumkachubby's side story: Gourmet Expeditions! Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Here we go! A new story begins today, set in the same universe as my main story but this time the setting is in the Paldea region, our new protagonist Shiro and in this chapter we will see how he meets a particular Miraidon, I hope you all like it~
Warning: This story is set after the events of the main plot of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and while in this particular chapter nothing remarkable is spoiled its recommended to be aware of it for future chapters, since game characters will appearing here and there
The situation was bad: not only was I lost somewhere in the mountains of the North Province, but I also lost most of the contents of my backpack trying to run away from an enraged Noivern earlier that day. My rotom phone was damaged too so I had no idea how far we were from a town or at least a pokemon center, and with the sun setting already I had to set up camp for the night and try my best to make something edible. I was left with enough ingredients to make one last sandwich, so despite the worried look of my pokemon I decided to try my best.
It was so awful my body rejected it so hard I ended up dropping it to the floor.
-”I’m sorry guys, I really tried my best” - I apologized to my Applin and Tatsugiri who quickly came to comfort me - “ I was really hoping that weird spice we found the other day would be useful… What should we do? Walking in the dark of the night could be dangerous, I guess we can go a night without dinner, right?” - I said as I looked at the sunset.
It has been half a year since I moved to Paldea, using all of my savings from my last job I came to join the Academy, since I heard they take students from all ages I took it as a chance to start a new life alongside Ringo, my Applin that has been my partner since I was teenager, and the only friend I ever made back in Galar. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I prefer the company of pokemon over other people, I was never able to get along with them… Well, at least I am until they realize my true nature. If you were to separate the people of this world you would usually make 2 distinct groups: normal humans and Hybrids, those who share a characteristics with pokemon, but in fact there is a third group people don’t talk about or are simply looked down as “mongrels”, descendants of Hybrids and human that by a simple look you may think that barely inherited any of their ancestors visual appearances, but once you notice you can’t unsee it, like the shape their hair naturally grows, which is my case.
School life in my childhood was terrible, children, no matter if they are human or hybrids, are awful, and that extends to teenagers and adults, so I ended up being homeschooled, even though I tried to join school multiple times. I wouldn’t blame them for having an easier time getting along with those who are kin, but is it really necessary to look down and mock those like me who don't fit in either group? I can’t even blame my parents for it since they didn't even know they had a hybrid ancestor until I was born…
So I ended up growing bitter, as to be expected, but after an awful situation in my last job I decided to quit and start a new page in my life, I tried my best to come with a positive energy, forget about my past and be ready to make friends but unfortunately that wasn’t the case… once my new classmates realized my origins they turned against me. I ended up joining Team Star because I met one of its leaders, who is a pretty cool guy who immediately accepted me for who I am, but that didn’t stop the same cycle to repeat among the grunts groups, so I ended up running away once again.
A rumble in my belly brought me back to reality, my pokemon looking worried at me.
-”Don’t worry I’ll be fine, I’m sure we can find some berries in our way to the nearest town tomorrow morning, we just have to endure the nigh-” A sudden movement in the bushes at my back startled me, under normal circumstances I would have been able to deal with a wild pokemon but I couldn’t force my friends into battle with an empty stomach so I quickly put them back into their poke balls. A large figure jumped from the bushes and glared at me, for a second I thought it was a Cyclizar but it was purple, way bigger and metallic-looking, like some kind of robot. The creature stared at me for a couple of seconds and quickly jumped in my direction. I closed my eyes waiting for the worst but nothing happened, when I opened them again I noticed the creature was behind me, happily eating the sandwich in the ground. Once it was done it turned back at me, this time with a more friendly look in its eyes. It was then when I noticed I had seen this pokemon before, it was a Miraidon. The latest Champion have been seen riding one of these and since they are quite popular it's hard to avoid knowing about them, although I have heard that this pokemon in particular was quite rare so I immediately assumed it must be the same one.
-”Did you get separated from your trainer?” - I asked the Miraidon, who gave me a confused look - “So… you don’t have a trainer?” - I said as I petted his face - “I’m sorry you had to eat that from the floor, must have been pretty hungry right?” - The pokemon smiled back at me and started to run in cycles, usually looking back at me. Normally I would say that I have a good instinct to what a pokemon is trying to tell me, you don’t need to be a hybrid to get an idea after all, but as this Miraidon jumped everywhere my confusion only grew bigger and bigger.
The pokemon kept moving around and occasionally looking back at me for a while until it suddenly stopped and jumped on me. It was pretty heavy so there wasn’t much I could do, but at least it was clear it wasn’t trying to hurt me. its eyes were very close to mine until I saw a strange glow on them, in that moment the Miraidon jumped back into the air and started to spin quickly as a yellow and violet light enveloped it, it didn’t look like any move I knew and somehow it didn’t felt like I was in any particular danger, it was captivating. Then it suddenly exploded into a cloud of purple and yellow sparks, I looked away for a moment and when I looked back I was presented with a sight that made me question my sanity: The wild Miraidon now walked in two feet, no, it had transformed into a humanoid begin! Their body still had a robotic look but it was considerably closer to a person now. After checking their new appearance for a couple of second it spoke to me:
-“Good, it worked”- They said, with a deep but electronic-sounding voice.
-”Yo- You can talk!? Wait, what’s going on??” - I managed to say as I fell to the ground, I couldn’t believe what I just witnessed - “I must be dreaming, right?”
-”What are you saying? Oh, let me help you” - They said, offering their hand, I took it by instinct and I could notice how hard and cold it was.
-”Is this, is this real?” - I said out loud, but the Miraidon replied nonetheless.
-”Well you can say I’m surprised too, I moved by instinct, I noticed you didn’t understand what I was trying to say so I took a form more suitable for communication.”
-”Wait a moment! You can’t just say that! Pokemon can’t just turn into people, right?”
-”How can you deny what your eyes just saw? You are an interesting one, but to satisfy your concerns, no, not all pokemon can do such a feat, but I guess some really powerful ones like myself can, although… I’m not sure if I can turn back now, at least I’m certain I don’t have enough energy to do it again, but I’ll worry about that later. For now let’s proceed with the reason I took this form, speaking human language is easier than I expected so let's not waste any more time.”
-”You did this just because you wanted to talk to me?” - I asked in shock.
-”Yes, that food you didn’t ate saved me, I’ve been traveling around in this unknown place for a while and finding something to eat has been quite the struggle so when I saw that piece of food I couldn’t help myself but to jump into it, I wouldn’t exaggerate if I said that you saved my life so I want to pay you back.”
-“But… it was a terrible sandwich…”
-”Maybe for you, but it was the most delicious thing I have memory of tasting”
-”Or maybe you just were too hungry?”
-”Its a possibility, just like the fact that I don’t have many memories of flavors, let alone memories to begin with…” - They said in a sad tone. -”I woke up in a cold, shiny cave with no memories a couple of months ago, alongside many others like myself. Life was rough there, constantly fighting for food, and while I had no problems getting it I couldn’t stand being trapped in that cave, so I ended up using all the energy I had to escape…”
-”I see…” - I replied looking at his hand, still holding mine, knowing too well how that feeling of being trapped in an hostile environment feels like.
-“Please excuse me, that was uncalled for. While you may have discarded that meal I don’t know how long it would have been until I found more food, and I heard that it was the last of your supplies so, as a way to pay you back, I can provide you with a fast way to travel around, sure I can’t transform like I was before but I can still travel way faster than a normal person can.”
-”I-I see” - For a moment I doubted myself, but how could I say no at this point? Even if I wanted to say it I had to think of my pokemon too after all. - “ Then… how should we do it?”
-”Just hop on to my back and get a good hold. Oh, but first, there is something we should take care about.”
-”What would that be?” -I asked, as they grabbed my backpack, taking an empty poke ball and dropping it into the air, as it fell on his head the usual red light came out of it and surrounded his body, taking their body into it and quickly closed itself. I jumped to grab it by instinct and as my hand touched it I could see the sparkles that announced the capture was successful.
That night, I captured a Miraidon…  a humanoid Miraidon!!??
The warmth of the sun in the morning woke me up, I was in my room in the academy and Ringo quickly came to check on me, he looked worried, like every morning after I had a nightmare.
-”Don’t worry Ringo it was just a dream”- I said as I petted him - “There is no way a pokemon can take a humanoid appearance and talk, well, maybe some Zoroark…?”
-”I’m glad to see you are awake.” - Said Director Clavell, who seems to be waiting right in the entrance of my room, thankfully most of the staff here don’t have prejudices against people like me so I have always felt welcomed by them. I would ask why he was here but Tatsu was on his shoulder so I deduced it was him who told him I had woken up. - “It was quite the uproar last night.”
-”Uh? Did something happen?”- I asked, confused.
-”How rude” - Said a deep, electronic voice coming from the same way the director came from - “But I guess I can’t blame you for thinking it was all a dream, you fainted when I got into that ball.”
-”WAIT WAIT IT WAS REAL!!?? Did YOU bring me here??”
-”That’s correct.” - Intervened the Director - “I was finishing my duties last night when you showed up unconscious in their arms, it was quite the scene between the few presents, after all not every hybrid share so many physical characteristics with their pokemon ancestors, there are some that have tails and wings but these are very rare cases, but I guess that doesn’t really apply to our guest here.”
-”So, you know about his nature?”
-”Of course, we talked about that last night alongside Ms. Geeta, they even had a battle.”
-”It was rude of me to suggest such a thing, I underestimated her strength…” - Said the Miraidon scratching their neck.
-”Wait, so you know that they are…?” - I asked the Director.
-”While it's certainly a surprising event to witness, it's not precisely something “new” in our world, there are many old folk tales that mention pokemon taking human form to make a bridge between the human and Pokemon, who were separated from each other for big part of our history, although such cases are often about pokemon of legends. If you want to know more about such tales you can ask Ms. Raifort, your history teacher.”
-”I wasn’t asking about that, I mean, they literally went inside a poke ball! They technically are my pokemon now?? I can’t just own a person! I mean sure they don’t look completely human but it's kinda messed up if you think about it. Why did you do that in the first place??” - I asked looking at the Miraidon
-”I guess I should apologize, I didn’t know that’s what getting into that ball meant until last night, I thought I had to do that to properly travel alongside you, that was the impression you and the other trainers I saw in the last couple of days gave me, I couldn’t just ask them after all.”
-”I understand your concern, Master Shiro, but you need to understand their point of view too. They don’t know much about our society after all, but they can learn about it, don’t you think? We talked about this too with Ms. Geeta and we concluded that as long as they remain with that appearance they can’t act like a pokemon anymore, so it would be better if they travel around and learn about our culture. As far as we know they can’t return to their previous state, but if they become able to do it then they should decide how they want to live their life by themselves, don’t you agree?”
-”I see, I guess you are right, who are we to decide for them who they are…”
-”Then…” - Said the Miraidon as they walked closer to me - “Would it be too much if I asked for your support? I still feel like I’m in debt to you, but I would like to have you as my guide…”
-”You took me back to society safety, that’s more than that dirty sandwich was worth! If someone is in debt here it should be me, of course I can teach you around, although I do have something I want to ask… ”
-”Of course, what would it be?”
-”You need to put on clothes…”
-”Now that you mention it, you are absolutely correct! We need to get you some clothes as soon as possible.” - Replied the Director, quickly covering his eyes as he rushed out of the room.
-”Do I really need to?”
-”If you want to experience life as a person then you need to start by following the basics of modesty.”
-”... fine. But with that in mind, there is something important I want to ask from you.”
-”Sure, go ahead.”
-”I want a name.”
-”Eehh!!?? But I’m not good with that… and I’m not going to be your trainer, I don’t really know how to feel if I named you…”
-”It doesn’t have to be the most creative name around, I may change it in the future, but if I’m going to live life like a person then you can’t call me “Miraidon”, right? It would be like if I called you “Pumpkaboo”!”
-”THAT’S-”- I shouted, just now realizing that I wasn’t wearing the hat that I always have on to hide the very distinct hairstyle that has given me so much trouble all my life. I could be angry but they clearly are not aware of my own circumstances, I could do nothing but agree. -” That’s correct, you do need a name, give me a second… … … What about something like… Light? Since you shined in a bright light when you changed your form.”
-”Hm… Light…”- They stood up for a couple of seconds, repeating the improvised name a couple of times to themselves - “yeah! I like it. Thank you Shiro, I hope you can teach me a lot of things from your people”
-”My people, you say…” - I had to admit for someone that has never felt like belongs anywhere, it hit pretty close where it hurts, but I couldn’t run away, this is what I came looking for in this region: start a new life, live new experiences, and I wasn’t going to let this chance escape, not when there is someone right in front of me that sees me for who I am. - “Then? is there anything in particular that you are curious about?” -I asked them, not really sure myself where we should start
-”Well, I was wondering… you said that the sandwich I ate last night was pretty awful, so that means there is way better food out there, right??” - Said Light, with an excited sparkle in their eyes.
-”Of course! This world is full of different, delicious food for everyone to taste, I can show you a couple of places in the city to start”
-”Marvelous! Then get ready, we have a starting point for our journey! Let’s begin our Gourmet Expedition!” - They said, grabbing me by the arm and lifting me into the air, my pokemon joined in jumping cheerfully around us.
-”Alright alright! but first get some clothes on!!”

The producers of NCIS are looking back at Mark Harmon’s exit from the CBS series.
Executive producer Charles Floyd Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter that he believed that Harmon’s 2021 departure would be a “death knell” for the procedural after he starred as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs nearly two decades.
“Coming in at 6:30 a.m., five days a week, and being the major character that was the linchpin — that’s pretty tough, and he did it for 18 seasons,” he said of Harmon, 72. “He had just gotten to the place where he was getting close to turning 70, and he wanted to spend time with [wife] Pam [Dawber] and his kids."
He continued: “So he was leading up to it. It started probably [with him dropping hints] around the 15th or 16th season. But he was so loyal to that crew and so supportive of the show. He was very proud of it, and he stayed on longer than he even intended.”
Director James Whitmore Jr. recalled wondering how the show would move forward without Harmon, telling the outlet, “When Harmon was talking about leaving, and there was this chance that he might not come back, I said, ‘How are they going to replace this dude?’ And they brought in the one guy that could do it, which was Gary Cole.”
Johnson admits the show “hit gold” when Cole joined NCIS in season 19 to play Special Agent Alden Park.
“There were a lot of names bandied about,” he recalled. “When everybody finally decided we’d make an offer to Gary Cole, we didn’t pitch it to him as, ‘He was going to become the new Gibbs.’ We pitched it to him that he was going to come in and wasn’t sure he was going to stay with the team, so that he didn’t have to feel like he was stepping into the shoes of someone who had been there for 18 seasons.”
Executive producer Mark Horowitz reflected on how the introduction of Cole’s character changed the dynamic of the show, explaining, “When Gibbs was in charge, he was the leader, and everybody was pretty much under him. When the Gary Cole character came in, it loosened up a little bit and allowed McGee (Sean Murray) to become a senior agent, and they have a little bit more authority. So it gave room for other possibilities.”
Back in August 2022, Harmon addressed saying goodbye to the procedural in the fourth episode of season 19 when his character Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs decided to stay in Alaska indefinitely after solving a case.
"What has always drawn me here is the character I play and to keep it fresh and to keep it challenging," Harmon said in a special featurette on the show's season 19 DVD release, per Entertainment Tonight. "Plot-wise, this character has taken the path that it did. I thought it was honest and OK with."
Harmon — who starred on the series since its premiere in 2003 — also shared that he believed that his beloved character is "not retired," adding, "The character is living in Alaska as far as I know."
Following the episode, executive producer Steve Binder opened up about Harmon's exit for the long-running series.
"As an executive producer and dear friend, Mark continues to be an integral part of the fabric of the show. Our north star has always been staying true to our characters, and that truth has always guided the stories we tell and where those characters go," he told PEOPLE in a statement. "So regarding the future of Gibbs, as long-time fans of the show may have noticed over the years…never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out."
"Mark's always been part of the show, Mark's always going to be part of the show," CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl told Deadline in September 2021. "In terms of his on-air appearances, we're just going to have to see how it plays out going forward."

R & W
I'm so sorry but this is really long
R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?
I have a post about this somewhere but I don't know where it is right now.
For non-fanfiction authors, KJ Charles has become one of them in recent years specifically in regards to pacing: she taught me how to make things go faster, so I can get the plot out of the way and then go back to add development and things in later.
Seanan McGuire is a big one. I'm very into Celtic mythology and faerie things and yet I also get tired of the fact that everyone consistently uses the Seelie and Unseelie Courts and never really goes beyond that, has this kind of shallow understanding of ooh, tricksy faeries and fancy court politics and yeh deh deh da when there's all of this old lore like the Book of Invasions to be tapped, and also modern, living legends people still tell stories about today, like "tell Tom Tildrum, 'Tim Toldrum is dead'" (the cat sidhe) and the cave of Black Agnes and etc. Seanan McGuire's Toby Daye mysteries really kind of opened the keg on that for me. While she makes her nods to the format of a lot of fae fiction to keep it recognizable, she's unafraid to tap into the truly weird sh.t Celtic Irish, and Welsh myth and lore have to offer (her protagonist was trapped as a fish for several years for instance) which really inspired me to do my own research and let myself throw out the "Oberon and Titania" model of faerie fiction as much as possible in favor of worldbuilding based on both modern rural legends and also texts predating Spenser and Shakespeare. It so far has shown up more in my original fiction than my fanfiction but Rivers & Gates starts moseying in that direction and I have a very big fanfic called Fly Over The North Shore (I'm Going Home) that's going to tackle a lot of Fir Bolg, Fomori, and Tuatha de Danann lore especially.
Shirley Jackson's another big one, I learned a lot of my horror-genre cues and stylistic mannerisms reading We Have Always Lived In The Castle and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Also, this might surprise you, but SJM by negation. She had a whole bunch of elements in the first Throne of Glass which she then promptly dropped, leaving me without the pieces of the story which drew me in the first place: plot elements that inevitably work their way into a lot of things I write because I wanted more and didn't get it. Author influence by not doing what she did. (Points if you can guess what those pieces are).
As for fanfiction authors, Purlturtle/NuMo in the Bering & Wells fandom has been a big one especially in terms of learning the little characterization tricks you need to really bring people to life. I know it's not a fandom you're familiar with but I'd still recommend Strata anyway, it's incredible. Also ashesandhoney from the Herongraystairs tag. She's able to make me actively invested in and interested in a character I usually avoid due to gender dysphoria weirdness and I've spent ages trying to figure out how she does it.
W: What is your favorite pairing to write? Favorite pairing to read?
Hm. For favorite pairing to write I'd say Gracetopher. Because I just adore both Grace and Christopher individually but also because my favorite thing as an author is to find loose threads and yank as hard as I can and if we bring Christopher back from the dead suddenly there are loose threads everywhere, just all over the place, and so many ways they can go. And a lot of those paths tangle these two together, sometimes platonically, sometimes romantically, sometimes in ways where even I don't know what's going on.
However, they're really not my favorite pairing to read. While I do like fanfics I've read of them (@luciehercndale does them incredibly well) I feel like there's a level of nuance and pain and also a layer of gleeful chaos to them that I don't see brought together often in the way I want from them. So I'm gonna say Wesper from Six of Crows and Alan/Jack from The Last Binding. Also Bering & Wells.
Wesper because there's a lot of authors who all have very different but also very good takes on the characters and they're one of those ships that just excels when put into random situations so they're just fun and fun is good.
Alan/Jack because I have a historical journalists problem and also because holy shit the smut that exists in that tag.
Bering & Wells because they're just. Everything to me. For so many reasons. I don't know how to explain it. Excellently executed enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers to aquaintances-with-angst. Jamie Murray's Helena still takes me out every time I see gifsets. Normally I get annoyed about percieved queerbaiting as everyone does but the ending to this ship in canon doesn't feel like that: it feels like a natural end to a relationship like theirs that's been through the wringer that it was put through. They were absolutely destined to meet each other, but they weren't necessarily destined to stay together in every single universe and they're written in a way where I can accept that. If I could get tattoos safely, forever destined to meet at gunpoint might be one of them.

We're Off to See the Wizard
Hey there, disqualifications. All right, I'm on the final thing in our stack! And we're gonna end the same way we started: with a FiM alt universe fic.
Here's the cover:
Tumblr media
Yeah, remember way back when we did "Little Fillies" #1? And I was wondering if they'd do other Classics Reimagined titles? Well, here's one for you! And at least this time, I'm roughly familiar with The Wizard of Oz. Like, I've never read the original books, but I've at least seen the 1939 film a couple times. I know the basic plot from parody and reference and pop culture. I know enough to know the ruby slippers are movie only, and they were silver in the book! Anyways, a pretty nice cover for this. Same artstyle as the "Little Fillies" story as well. This one might grab a few more eyes, at least~
I think we'll do the same thing I did in the Little Fillies review, where I name the character as the original work, then parenthetically refer to the MLP character playing them. So obviously, our depressed farmgirl is Dorothy Gale (Applejack). She lives with Uncle Henry (Big Macintosh) and Auntie Em (initially Rarity, but when she's way into playing Big Mac's wife, they swap her for Granny Smith. They also change the role from wife to mother). While they're making changes, Dorothy demands to be switched into overalls. So much for the iconic gingham~
So, before long, a tornado comes a-spinnin' into the story. Auntie Em! It's a twister! Starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton! She chases her dog, Toto (Winona), into the bedroom. This keeps her from enterting the storm cellar instead. And she's gonna wish she'd been in there, because the tornado doesn't just destroy the house, it lifts the whole thing spinning and spinning into another dimension! One with brighter colours! The main comic so far has been in muted, sepia-like colours (not outright monochrome), but springs to "full" colour at this point.
When everything's stopped spinning, Dorothy (just assume this is followed by "and Toto" every time, unless I specify) takes a peek out into this wide new world. She's greeted, not by munchkins, but by Breezies, which is one of the only times they've ever appeared in comics. They're super-enthused to meet a new princess, Dorothy having crushed the previous one. Dorothy tells them that both these facts are wrong, only to be swiftly corrected with the shot of Nightmare Moon's legs sticking out from under the house, silver horseshoes in the air.
Who should enter now but the Good Princess of the North (Celestia). Dorothy objects to the lazy find-replace of "witch" for "princess", but Glinda or Celestia or whoever plows on ahead anyway. She introduces the concepts of one princess per cardinal direction, two good and two wicked, and the Unicorn of Odd (title drop!) who might be even more powerful. Dorothy is about to make a feminist comment, but is interrupted by Nightmare Moon's dissolving. The silver horseshoes are now relinquished, and Celestia forces them on Dorothy to keep the plot moving.
This version does mention the Deadly Desert surrounding the Land of Odd on all sides, which is why she can't immediately go home to Kansas. It's a bit distressing, but Celestia suggests heading east to the Emerald City where the Unicorn lives. And of course, the easiest way to get there? Follow the yellow brick road, of course. The Breezies agree to accompany her to the edge of their territory, and to Dorothy's relief, only the book is in the public domain. Thus, they don't have the rights to use any of the songs~
Finally, just as Dorothy is beginning to tire of the fawning reverence of the Breezies, they reach the end of their lands and part ways. They soon come all up ons a cornfield, and Toto begins to bark. Dorothy's worried for a minute, but it turns out to be just a scarecrow. To her shock, though, the Scarecrow (Pinkie Pie) begins to talk. She's very glad to have somepony new to talk to, since it's all been birds before now. She's just terrible at scaring the crows, to her utter shame. She's just too good at making friends! See how she's made a new one just today~!
Dorothy uses her farm-found applebucking skills to knock the Scarecrow off her perch, freeing the straw-stuffed mare to move around and travel. And travel she does! She decides to accompany Dorothy on her journey, in the hopes of getting a brain from the Unicorn. She's happy enough with a head stuffed with straw, but what she really wants is to plan parties. Can't do that without a brain! And the comic ends as the pair set off, with Scarecrow also needing to be reminded they don't have the rights to the songs. But it's a comic book, so they won't be able to tell if she hums it instead~
Well, this seems like a lot of fun so far. Let's be honest, The Wizard of Oz is a lot more of an exciting and interesting story than Little Women. I'm sorry, but it's true. It'll appeal to your demographic a lot more, too. The roles seem pretty tailor-made for this, and Applejack is a natural snarker. So the asides and fourth wall breaks (there's a whole page of Celestia and Luna I left out to keep up the flow and to allow you to find the jokes on your own as you read) fit more naturally here. They got better at it here, with "Little Fillies" being their testing ground. I look forward to more of this, but alas, this is the only issue I have so far! Just like last time, we'll have to wait until I get a new shipment to finish the series~
Next week, though... Well, I have a few ideas I wanna explore. They'll tide us over in the meantime~
