If only
Pairing: Chuuya x femreader Warnings: swearing, mention of suicide attempts, language, hated, gunshots, death, mentions of killing, violence This is the second part of Not today. Enjoy!
Wake up, survive, kill, sleep, repeat. Wake up, exist, betray, sleep, repeat. Wake up, get yourself almost killed, sleep, repeat. Wake up, die.
One year and a half has passed since Chuuya decided that you didn't have any value for him. You decided to celebrate it at the old apartment, exactly where it happened, so you would not forget why you're still alive. Revenge. No, you laughed at the flickers of the candles around the living room. Revenge was too kind for him. You wanted to make him hate himself. To feel useless, used, an incapable body having to survive with the consequences of his own actions. That's what you had been doing for the last year so he had to go through it for the rest of his life. Seemed only fair, an eye for an eye, a broken soul for another one. Even better, a broken soul to crush another. You blame yourself for the break up. If only you wouldn't have opened the discussion about marriage and kids. If only you would have been happy with the situation you were in, not craving for more, not wanting more from life, maybe he wouldn't have said those words to you. If only you would have acted differently. If only you would have changed to suit him better. If only…
You sipped another gulp from the expensive bottle of wine, his courtesy when he left you the apartment. No need to cry over spilled milk. Still, tears fell down your cheeks without warning. It stung, it is not like you could get rid of the feelings of betrayal and disappointment. In the dim lights of the candles you let yourself feel human again. It was a long year for you, one where you made permanent changes in your life. No more good girl behavior. Only a cruel bitch without a heart. One of the most interesting evolutions within the Mafia. That's what they called you. You had your underground name as well, Shadow. The one who kills her victims in their sleep, walking right behind you, living in the dark, never knowing when is going to hit. People don't fear their own shadows, so you took advantage of that. Befriending the target, using your innocence to make them trust you then slashing their heart in the sheets. Literally.
You sighed, he should be back in two days. You found out after joining that the executive was sent on a suicide mission, having no communication with the outside world. A mission that has been extended longer than anyone anticipated. But everyone trusted him to accomplish the impossible and come back alive and successful, destroying some gangs, scoring some diamond deals, and bringing back the prize of the rarest diamond in the world. Easy, for the most powerful ability user in the Mafia. Not so easy to understand why he acted like that more than a year ago. You saw the reasoning behind it, but still, there were other options if he wanted to protect you. You shake your head, no, he did not want to protect you, he wanted to get rid of you.
In retrospect, he tried to protect you after his departure, after the breakup.  You were desperate, you wanted to turn off your feelings so bad, everything hurt. In a desperate attempt, a message was sent to Dazai if his offer for the double suicide was still up. But he expected the message when he met you on the roof of the building his scope was to get you down, to hold you, and to make sure you didn't do it. What an ass, Chuuya informed him and knew already you'd try to kill yourself. “Bella, is not worthy, I promise you I'd take your offer under other circumstances, but now I know for sure that is going to get better.”
After that night you laid out your options on a piece of paper. The first was to get over with this life. Not an option anymore, Dazai did not help you and suddenly members of the agency bumped randomly into you at the grocery store. Atsushi wanted to accompany you and Yosano wanted to go shopping. Nice of them but it was making you feel worse. You wanted to root under a rock. Fragile. You felt fragile, ready to break if someone looked at you the wrong way. You wanted to move out of the apartment, but couldn't, you were between jobs and you were in no shape to start looking for one. To put on a fake smiling face… no. And ironically after three weeks, a position was available at the agency, for a secretary. What a lovely coincidence. And for a bit you even considered it, to have them around wasn't a bad idea after all and would also comply with Chuuya's demand to never get in his face again. But then, after the “interview”, while at the caffè, Atsushi -bless his innocent heart- left out a secret in his blabbering “Chuuya must really love you Y/N-san, kneeling to ask the president for the Agency to protect you”. He received a smack over his head from Kyoka and you acted like you did not hear him, but it was the moment you decided you weren't going to take the job at the agency.
Bastard. Thinking he can control your life after breaking you like that. To make sure you were having a good life, that you would be under Dazai’s careful eye. The second option was to move back to your village, back with your not-so-close family. Not really an option, but more a desperate attempt to get the attention off the agony present in your life. And you tried it, with a short visit, wanting to understand if it would do you any good. But at the news that you and Chuuya broke up, your family started blaming you and accused you of being such a stuck-up bitch. Everything good about you was your relationship with Chuuya and you screwed everything up and your life did not have any value anymore. And maybe, to a certain extent, you started to believe it.  So after that weekend, you got back, having to deal with life again.
The next option was to just get on with your life. Going out, dating, meeting new people, living again. Well, you got yourself somehow functioning in those six weeks before deciding that there was a fourth option that was more suitable. You tried looking for other jobs, and you got yourself on two random blind dates which were absolutely horrible, but a friend of yours decided it was a good idea to get you out of your slumber so you accepted. You decided you were going to be single forever because there was no way you were going to deal with all that. And you also wanted revenge and when the opportunity arose, you went straight for it.
The fourth option you never envisioned or dreamed of. Joining the Mafia. A friend, of a friend, of another friend found out from some underground source about a recruitment process going on so you decided to join. You started preparing for it, hitting the gym and having shooting training on Chuuya’s money, because if he left you the card you might as well use it. One of your biggest qualities was the attention to detail and to anyone’s surprise shooting a gun. You remember the ‘basic training’ Chuuya gave you after telling you about his job so you could shoot a gun if you ever needed to protect yourself and he was amazed by your skills to not miss any of the targets he put in place. So, until the recruitment stage came around you trained. It was not like you had any better to do, apart from moping around in your sadness.
You started as a weakling, a mere nobody. No particular skill, apart from a good aim. The rest was hard work, broken bones, lots of cuts and bruises, not getting in your own way, being in constant fear for your life, and learning to kill. The first time was the hardest. Then you went on autopilot. No regrets, no remorse, no feelings. Exactly what you were looking for, a way to numb out your heart. No more worrying about a lover, a relationship, a breakup, or a future. Then, it was a question of being in the right place at the right time and saving Mori’s life in an altercation. The boss rarely participated in those things, but there were times he wanted to feel the thrill of fear and descend into the dirty underground. Obviously, some Black Lizard mission you were involved in by accident, but they did not fully clear the perimeter and a sniper got away.
You were feeling very suspicious about the whole deal, it was intuition, and you just knew something was wrong. Luckily, you saw the red dot on Mori’s chest, had enough balls to push him aside, and got yourself two beautiful bullets in your chest. You survived and got the permission to have one wish granted. You could ask whatever you want. You thanked your new direct Boss and asked him to keep this for the future when you would find a wish worthy of the occasion. You got yourself noticed, what weakling would dare touch the Boss in such a manner? So you started to be involved in more high-profiling missions. You received special training from the Black Lizards, transforming you into one of the finest assassins the Mafia had at its disposal. A killing machine, who did not ask twice about the victim, just got the job done. ‘’No hard feelings’’ was the last phrase every one of your victims heard. And your way of doing your job was very interesting to Mori. Approaching the targets in plain sight, gaining their trust in so little time, then breaking it when killing them. Every one of your missions seemed like a personal revenge you took. And Mori was definitely pleased, his mind coming up with different plans on how he could use his new pawn.
How ironic everything seemed to you. To be in front of the man Chuuya was trying to protect you from. Saving said man with your own life and getting your hands dirty just like him. Definitely, he did not expect his plan to backfire like that. You were dying to see his reaction when he would find out. Well, you will not be there, probably, as you were set to have some solo missions, which started exactly the day he was going to return. You were grateful, it would give you a bit more time. For what? You didn’t know. But you did not feel ready to see him again. Well, it was something you’ll worry about another day, now, you let yourself cry, be desperate again, and hope for the release of death. Tomorrow, you’ll get your knives and guns attached to you again.
The days rolled around and you departed to your new series of missions first thing in the morning. Little did you know that at the same time, in Mori’s office, a meeting regarding your future was happening.
‘’Chuuya-kun, as always your results are impeccable. You’ll get days off until your new partner will return from her missions’’.
Chuuya raised an eyebrow. He was tired and done with it all. But he definitely did not expect to have a new partner upon his return. He liked his solo missions and did not want to have to carry someone’s slack around. But he had little to no energy to fight. He just wanted to get in contact with Dazai right now and ask about her. His mind was only about her and how to make things right again, in case she did not move on.
‘’Thank you and who is her?’’
‘’ Her name is Shadow’’.

10 things i hate about you.
you hate yuji itadori.
well, maybe you don’t him…. actually who were you kidding? if you had a list of reasons why you hated him, you would read it to the whole world.
which you do.
you walk down the hallways of the campus, your earbuds in each ear, music blasting as you try to block out the loud shouts of other students who loudly trout through the hallways.
the obnoxious shouts from other students almost break through the barriers of your headphones…
what a nuisance.
as you begin to turn the corner to reach your next class, you bump into someone.
you stumble back a bit, your earbuds immediately falling from your ears, just as you open your eyes someone immediately grabs your wrist to keep you from falling back any further.
you look up in annoyance, “watch where you’re..” your voice trails off.
“sorry about that,” yuji itadori, he smiles softly. his smile gentle as his gaze, such an easy going smile. he ruffles his light pink messy locks of hair before kneeling down and picking up your fallen earbuds. standing up and handing them to you. “i wasn’t watching where i was going.”
you stare at him for a long moment before realizing he was handing your earbuds back to you. quickly taking them from him, “thank you.” you say quietly, avoiding his gaze. “it was my fault. i should’ve been paying attention.” you say before quickly walking the opposite way.
that was reason no. 1 why you hate yuji itadori.
his big dopey smile.
you stood out in the kitchen holding a glass of water in hand as everyone dances in the distance.
you were recently invited to a party, since it was an end of the year party it seemed everyone was there— some people were even surprised you arrived.
“you made it!” a familiar voice said in the distance. Iori Utahime, one of your closest friends.
“utah!” you say with a smile as you set down your glass of water and walk over towards her, “woah, you look great!” you say with a genuine smile.
“you’re just saying that.” she says with a flattered smile.
“no no! i mean it. really.” you say with a chuckle.
“she’s not lying, utahime! you look great!” a masculine voice from your right says.
you look in that direction.
yuji itadori in his best attire.
“thanks, yuji.” utahime says casually with a slight smile.
yuji then walks closer towards the two, he looks at you with a smile. “you too! lookin’ great.” he says happily.
you don’t say anything at first.
it’s like a frog is caught in your throat. all you can do is stare as it feels like you start losing all balance in your legs. you feel as if you can hear your heart making its way out of your chest, the beats getting louder and louder. you—
“hey?” utahime says suddenly. you turn to look at her quickly, then you look at yuji. “i’m sorry—“ you choke out. “sorry— i have to use the bathroom.” you say quickly.
“hey wait—“ you honestly can’t tell which one of them said that, but you couldn’t even look back. so you just quickly walk away.
reason no. 2 why you hate yuji itadori.
he makes your insides feel all warm and fuzzy.
you lay in bed one late night, scrolling through your phone. your back was against the white cozy sheets, your hair was spread along the pillow below you.
you had a green tea face mask draped over your face as you held your phone above your head. scrolling mindlessly when someone suddenly texted you.
you look at the notification,
“Maybe: Yuji Itadori.”
that was the contact.
you sat up quickly with wide eyes as you read, “hey!” a simple message. yet so nerve wracking. you feel your hands get all clammy as you tap it.
you stare down at the message for a solid minute before beginning to text back.
“hi.” you hit send. you felt your own heart beating so loud it felt as if it were going to burst. you immediately throw your phone across the bed and plummeting your face into the pillow and screaming.
when you hear the buzz of your you immediately sit up, grabbing your phone and opening it.
“got your number from Utahime. wanna get lunch sometime?”
you stare at his message.
your fingers start to hit the keys.
“Sure.” you say.
your cheeks flush. squealing as you roll around in bed.
reason no. 3 why you hate yuji itadori.
he makes you feel like a little girl.
you stand outside of the restaurant, wearing a short dress. but not too short, you were nice flats and even put your hair up neatly. you held a handbag in hand as you stood there with a gentle smile. you waited.
and waited.
…and waited.
you pull out your phone, swiping to see the messages you sent him over two hours ago.
no response.
you just stared into your phone, before turning it off and walking away.
reason no. 4 why you hate yuji itadori.
he stood you up.
that same night, you lay in bed. your dress sprawled out on the ground, shoes thrown along the ground, you in your Pjs.
your hair was pinned up, your makeup was wiped clean off.
what a big waste of time.
but.. why did you feel this way? hugging your pillow as tears pricked your eyes. your lips twitched as you smother your face into the pillow. small sniffles leaving your nose as you curled up.
it’s not like you were dating or anything.
your phone then suddenly buzzed. you slowly removed your face from your pillow, turning the other way before grabbing your phone and yanking it off the charger. putting the screen towards your face as you open the emerging messages from yuji.
things like, “hey, im sorry.” or “i know you’re upset with me.” and—
you just shut off your phone and tossed it across the bed.
you just sobbed.
“i hate you, yuji itadori.” you say to yourself.
reason no. 5 why you hate yuji itadori.
he makes you cry like a child.
over the next course of those days you decide to avoid him, taking every possible route opposite to his. the whole entire day you’ve been going through opposite directions— different short cuts— anything you can think of.
11pm
you sit at lunch along with utahime, and maki.
“yknow,” maki says as she swallows her food. “that doof has been looking for you all day.” you look at her from your phone, raising a brow. “she means yuji.” says utahime who looks at you raising a brow. your eyes dart back and forth between the both of them. the two start giving you the look
“no. no, no.” you say with a huff.
“you can’t ignore him forever.” says utahime.
“i’ve done so for a w—“
you’re interrupted.
“hey.” a soft voice from behind you says.
you turn around quickly to see yuji, your eyes wide. why now?
“have you been avoiding me?” he says with a worried expression.
you stand up. “No, i haven’t. i was actually just about to go.” you say as you begin to walk away. but the second you do, he grabs your wrist gently as he yanks you towards him. “hey— if this is about lunch.. i didnt mean to stand you up— if you would just read my me—“ you cut him off. “look, i get it. you just aren’t into my like that. and that’s fine.” you say as you pull away, “that’s no—“ he’s interrupted as he begins to speak. “yuji, it’s fine, really.” you say as you give a small smile before walking away.
as you walk away, he follows behind you like a clingy puppy. “c’mon, let’s talk about it.”
“i’m fine.” you say.
but yuji doesn’t give up, he never has. and after a while.. it starts to become a bit annoying.
“look.. that night was my fault.. i really didn’t mean to stand you up— it wasn’t my intentio-“ “yuji itadori!” you shout aloud. turning to face him.
“i said forget it.”
“but—“
“forget it.” you say again.
you then quickly turn around before walking away.
reason no. 6 why you hate yuji itadori.
he’s insufferable.
you stare at yourself in the mirror as you brush your teeth, your hair was tied up as you spit out the excess water and toothpaste. rinsing your toothbrush off before putting it back in its holder. you then slowly put your retainer in before stretching.
it was no later than 10:07 at night, you’d gotten home from a late night shift not too long ago. you’d brought yourself dinner, and has taken a shower. you sigh in relaxation as you plop down on your couch.
just as you grab the remote you hear something from outside of your apartment. music.
“this late at night?” you grumble as you stand up. letting out a quiet groan as you walk to the door, you unlock the locks before turning the knob and opening it to see the ruckus.
as you pull the door open you jump back a bit— startled by the person in front of you.
yuji— his big dopey smile that makes your heart race. he holds a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates. “forgive me!” he says as he bows forward for forgiveness.
you stand there with wide eyes.
your cheeks immediately flush red.
“y— yuji! i already said to f—“ he cuts you off. “i know..” he says with a quiet voice. “but at least.. think about it.” he says. you look at the bouquet of flowers in his hand. “think about it as much as i think about you.”
your eyes suddenly dart to his as he says that.
oh God. it’s happening again. that fuzzy feeling.
you stand there in silence, your heart races, your hands get all clammy.
“…okay.” you finally say. slowly taking the bouquet from his hand, as well as the chocolates.
he smiles. “thank you.”
reason no. 7 why you hate yuji itadori.
he doesn’t stop until you’re happy.
a few weeks later, you find yourself outside of another restaurant. you wore a nice sundress, and baby blue flats. your bag on your shoulder as your hair is neatly styled.
you stand there, nervous. worried about whether or not it’ll just end up like last time. you did get here a bit early, so.. you expected to wait a bit. and you did.
you waited..
..and wa—
“you made it.” a voice says.
yuji.
you turn to meet his eyes, he holds up a hand. waving with a gentle smile. “Yo.” he says.
you smile softly, slowly walking over.
reason no. 8 why you hate yuji itadori.
his presence is enough to make you smile.
it was a long day, and i mean a long day. you had just worked a 5-12 hour shift. talk about pain in the ass. you walked down the empty parking lot, grabbing your car keys before pressing the unlock button and opening the door.
you get into your car, locking the door as you get in. putting the car into gear before putting on your seatbelt, you let it heat up a bit especially since it was a bit cold out. you yawn.
your hair was a mess, apron stained from spilt coffee and condiments.
you sigh, before pulling out of the parking lot and beginning to make your way home.
1:30am
you pull into the driveway of your apartment. turning the car off you sit there for a minute in silence. so relaxed you almost didn’t want to exit the car.
but you did eventually. making your way to your door you pull out your keys, fumbling them around in your hands as you frustratingly pick out your house keys. inserting them into the lock of the door before finally, unlocking. you twist the doorknob, pulling your keys from the door and shutting the door behind you.
it was dark— darker than you’d left it.
as you slowly walk through your apartment trying not to trip on anything unexpected. you notice a small trail of things on the floor— did a raccoon get in?
you follow the trail anxiously— what if someone had broken in? even worse.. a bear.
after a long while of following the trail you find that it lead you to your room. you stare at the face of the door, nervous for the outcome.
you anxiously put your hand on the doorknob, twisting it. slowly pushing it open.. you walk in.
your bedroom, covered in rose petals, fairy lights, balloons, and someone holding up a sign..
yuji itadori.
he smiled softly, holding up a sign.
words “will you be my girlfriend?” written on it.
your eyes go wide, a smile subconsciously makes its way onto your face.
“…so?” yuji says nervously.
“yes, yuji.” you say with tears in your eyes, slowly walking over with a gentle smile.
reason no. 9 why you hate yuji itadori.
because you love him.
“i never knew what my 10th reason would be.” you say softly. “i didn’t think i’d ever find my 10th reason.. until now.”
“yuji itadori, i hate you.” you say. your voice breaking. “i hate you for making me love you the way you do, i hate the way you smile, the way you make me cry, the way you make me feel like a little girl every time you come my way.” you let out a soft gasp. tears streaming down your cheeks.
“i hate the way you thought it was okay to leave me
on this earth alone.”

I had this idea for a show and its plot twist.
Basically a show where a city that is broke and run down. Filled with crime, pollution, all that stuff. But the people in this city are told by those who own it that there is a gated town within it. This gated town is a beautiful place, away from all the chaos. Think Auradon to the isle of the lost. So it became people's goal to get into this town anyway possible, including our main character. Our main character is an orphan girl who isn't too persistent on getting in but still dreams of it. Though of course because she's the main character, she does get in somehow. But when she does she sees that it looks no different from the city on the outside. She ends up telling other kids that she is from the city outside the walls, and they bumbard her with questions about what it's like. Turns out the people on the inside were told the same thing about the city outside the wall, by those who own the city.
So everyone was just lied to and there is no escape from all this chaos, there is no better city.

The Last Entry
Pratap Kumar was not one to shy away from a golden opportunity, and Nambiar Coffee Shop seemed to be glittering with cash. The plan, in his mind, was simple: con Sundari, the cashier, into handing over the cash counter under the pretense of “maintenance.” Easy money—at least, that’s what he thought.
The café buzzed with life as he strolled in. Sundari, barely looking up from her work, seemed unfazed by his arrival. But Pratap was not deterred. After all, he had “charm” on his side.
“Excuse me, madam,” Pratap began, his voice taking on a tone of authority. “Your boss sent me to fix your cash counter. It’s been acting up, hasn’t it?”
Sundari blinked at him, unimpressed. “Hmmm,” she muttered.
“You don’t want any mishaps with all that cash, do you? Best let me handle it before something goes wrong,” Pratap pressed, trying to sound as if this were an urgent matter.
Sundari, with an indifferent shrug, opened the cash drawer. But what Pratap didn’t realize was that she wasn’t about to be fooled. Quietly, almost imperceptibly, she removed the cash before handing over the counter. Pratap, none the wiser, gleefully took it and hurried off, ready to make his "getaway."
What Pratap didn’t expect was the constable sipping tea in the corner, observing him the entire time.
With the cash counter tucked under his arm, Pratap found himself wandering toward Kundanbagh, a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of the city. His plan, as always, was half-baked. He hadn’t thought through what he would do next—he was too focused on the cash that he believed was waiting for him.
As he reached a small alley, Pratap stopped to catch his breath. That’s when he noticed something wrong. The cash counter felt light—too light. With trembling hands, he opened it and found… nothing. Sundari had tricked him. The realization hit him like a punch in the gut.
Before he could dwell on his misfortune, Pratap heard footsteps approaching. It was the constable from the café. The officer’s presence sent a chill down his spine. Had he been followed?
“What are you doing with that?” the constable asked, eyeing the cash counter.
Pratap froze. His mind raced, searching for a way out. Before he could respond, a sound came from a nearby house—the old Kundanbagh bungalow. It was faint but unmistakable, like something heavy had shifted inside.
The constable, momentarily distracted, gestured toward the house. “Did you hear that?”
Pratap hesitated, unsure of what to say. But the constable’s curiosity had already been piqued. Without waiting for Pratap, he began walking toward the house, and after a few moments of indecision, Pratap followed, not wanting to raise further suspicion.
The two approached the front door, which hung slightly ajar. The air was thick with dust and neglect, but there was something else too—a strange, unsettling stillness. They stepped inside, the old floorboards creaking under their weight.
What they found next would change everything.
In the center of the room were three bodies, lifeless and cold, seated as if they had been waiting for something—or someone. The constable froze in his tracks, his breath catching in his throat.
“What… what is this?” he whispered, his voice trembling.
Pratap, too, was struck dumb. He had expected a small heist, not a scene straight out of a nightmare. His eyes darted around the room, trying to make sense of it all. How long had these bodies been here? Why hadn’t anyone noticed?
The constable, still in shock, crouched down to examine the scene. The bodies were mummified, their faces frozen in expressions of eerie calm. It was as if death had come quietly, and no one had bothered to check.
“They’ve been dead for months,” the constable muttered, almost to himself. “How did no one report this?”
Pratap, still holding the now-meaningless cash counter, stumbled backward. His grand plan had unraveled into a gruesome reality, and he suddenly realized just how out of his depth he was.
The constable turned to Pratap, suspicion flaring in his eyes. “You. You knew about this, didn’t you?”
Pratap shook his head frantically. “I-I didn’t! I swear! I was just—”
The officer’s face hardened. “You were sneaking around with that cash counter, and now we find this? It doesn’t look good for you.”
Pratap’s mind raced. How had he gone from a petty thief to a suspect in what was quickly shaping up to be a far darker crime?
“I didn’t know about the bodies!” Pratap protested, his voice rising in panic. “I was just—”
Before he could finish, the constable stepped closer, his hand hovering near his holster. “We’ll see about that. You’re coming with me.”
At that moment, Pratap’s world collapsed. The plan that had seemed so simple now lay in ruins, tangled with secrets he hadn’t bargained for. He had stumbled into something far more dangerous than a petty theft. As the constable dragged him toward the door, Pratap glanced back at the house—at the bodies that had been silently waiting to be found.
But in his heart, he knew this was far from over.

Alright, this one is for all the people who read my 'spatula' and 'roommate emergency' posts. Because if you suffered trough those long whiny posts you deserve to know the insane continuation/ending to the story. Warning for high levels of drama and plot twists. Under cut because long.
So, after all of the emergency and spatula debakl, I was starting to feel slightly less warm to my roommate; not enough to be mean, but I decided to focus on my own stuff and not give her as much attention. We were still saying hi and casually chatting, but I wouldn't take food if she offered. She bought some fruit juice and told me to drink it, and I didn't wanna be mean so I just said 'you should drink it too', and ignored it. I will not be mollified with some fruit juice.
I felt happier focusing on myself, but I also started to get a little anxious, because what if the roommate gets mad at me, and then moves out? And then I thought, wait, that's an insane thought. Nobody moves out of a place because their roommate is a bit withdrawn and depressed, and doesn't give them tons of attention. Besides, I haven't done anything ever to cause her harm or distress, I'm just living my life and leaving her to hers. I'm fine.
So yesterday late evening, I went to the bathroom and noticed all of her shampoos and shower gels were missing, and immediately got worried about it. Why would she remove all her bathroom stuff, unless she is actually moving out? But she never said anything. It was already so late at night, I couldn't go bother her about it. It was 11 pm. I tried to not worry about it and fall asleep, but I couldn't. Thinking how maybe she's moving out, and then I'd be alone looking for a roommate in January when the bills are the worst, filled me with anxiety. How would I pay my rent? I heard her then, leaving her room and going into the bathroom. I made a split-second decision to get up and confront her about it. I needed to be sure.
I caught her in the hallway, and asked 'Hey, I saw you took all of your shampoos, are you leaving? If you're leaving I need to know.' She smiled at me and then reassured me that if she was leaving, she'd tell me. She then showed to me how a lot of her hair started falling out, and she thinks it's because of the shampoo, so she threw it away and now needs a new one. Oh okay, I thought, that's a relief. I told her thanks for explaining, and how I got so worried I couldn't sleep. She laughed at me for being silly and worrying, and I grumbled 'don't laugh at me' as I went back to my room and wished her a good night. She seemed so happy I talked to her, probably because I wasn't initiating any conversations lately.
Next morning, I woke up sad, so I was moping in my room, and at one point she stopped by my room asking if I was okay, and if I'm going to work. I replied weakly that I was fine (I wasn't, I was kinda sobbing and forgot my room door was open) and that I didn't have work that day. She said okay. I heard her leave.
After I calmed down from my sadness, I realized I needed to contact her employer, because she was supposed to pay her share of the bills, and even though I reminded her two days ago, she forgot, and I needed that money. I hate bothering people about money, so I just sent a little 'how about today?' message thinking that was friendly enough. Her employer responded with 'sure I'll send you the money via [roommate name], she still isn't at work.' I responded with 'she left, she should be there soon'.
And then I thought, maybe I was wrong when I heard her leave, so I got up, knocked on her door, and said her name to check if she was still there. No response. I pushed the door open.
My heart sank to the bottom of my feet.
The room was empty. The bed was empty. There was a mess on the floor but mostly trash. Her things were gone. Her clothes were gone. The key to the apartment was on the table.
I was immediately stricken with shock, and the realization that she lied to me yesterday, when I anxiously asked if she was leaving, she smiled and reassured me that she wasn't leaving while she was already packing her bags! But why?
I panicked then, thinking what I should do next. Was she okay? Was she safe? Did she go to a friend's place? Should I call her employer and check if she still went to work? But that's probably not what the roommate wanted, I needed to find her and ask her why, and what to tell to her employer, because I didn't know the right answer. I grabbed my bike and headed outside and tried to find her in the city.
No luck. After half an hour I understood too much time has passed, she could have been anywhere. She's left and cannot be found. I couldn't call her, because her phone doesn't have a real SIM card so calls don't work. I relented and called her employer to check if she was at work, and to try and find out what happened.
I needed to be calculated in order to get any kind of information, so I called and said 'Hi, just checking if [roommate's name] got to work safely?' And employer says 'No, she's still not at work'. So I go 'Did something happen yesterday? Something is wrong'.
Her employer was extremely evasive on what exactly happened. She started listing events like 'she wouldn't clean the windows, we had a media day yesterday and she had to talk to the cameras, she got mad about something, said she didn't want to work, that her head hurts, but wouldn't sign the form saying she's quitting, then she changed her mind and asked for a free day, but she already had two free days, she was unreasonable' it was a mumble-jumble of events I couldn't put together right. And then I finally told her that [roommate's name] is gone. She took her things and left the key. The employer didn't even seem that shocked. I was still in shock. I asked her to call me if she managed to get in contact.
I was still struggling to accept just what had happened. I then remembered that even though we never used it, at one point I added her on facebook, and maybe this could be our point of contact. I wanted to talk to her just one last time, to find out what happened at work that forced her to leave, and to say goodbye. I couldn't accept that she is just gone after all that, with no explanation, no goodbye.
I went to the park, connected to the internet and frevently searched for the little icon in my messenger. I found her. I sent her a message saying 'Hey, please tell me why you left. I won't bother you, I just need to know why.'
No response. She was online. I knew she saw it. But nothing.
I couldn't accept it. I tried calling her on facebook. She immediately blocked me.
I was left staring at my phone in disbelief. This was it. This was all I would ever get for closure. I'd never find out what had happened. Not from her employer, and not from her.
I felt heartbroken but at the same time had no time to deal with the emotional impact, because I had incoming panic about rent and bills! Her employer would definitely not want to pay her dues now that she was not even living there anymore, and I needed a roommate to stay afloat. Then I remembered, there was one person who viewed the apartment a month ago and wanted to move in, but wanted a solitary room – maybe she'd be interested in it still, since solitary room was now free.
I took my luck and called the woman. After I'd explained who I was and why I was calling, she was delighted. 'I thought about you every day!' she said excitedly. As a lesbian, I love a woman saying that to me, but, it was not the time. She's a 60yo divorced straight lady and I have to keep it together. She said she would move in tomorrow evening, and I said okay, not believing her fully because honestly who can you believe? 'I would tell you if I was leaving' was still ringing in my ears.
I knew now what I needed to do. Go home and... clean out the apartment.
It was as sad as you can imagine. I had to take down the christmas decorations that we had put up together, because the new person would surely find it odd to see a christmas tree at the end of January, and I just think it's nice so why take it down. I had to go clean out roommate's room, which had a fair amount of trash in it, and I realized, some stuff from her work, the key to her workplace, her working clothes. I understood I'd have to return those to her employer, who later called me to ask about it. I said I would bring it immediately.
Her employer wanted to talk to me, but only to convince me that the roommate was a lazy, messy, unmotivated and disobedient slob, which I didn't believe. I knew this lady was abusive and mean to my roommate and likely the reason roommate left. She was trying to paint my roommate as the villain so badly because she wanted to cover up her own abuse. I didn't believe any of it and I left. She didn't give me any money for bills. She promised to give it later.
I went home, and continued with my cleaning journey. I found some interesting things my roommate left behind. She left some random food items, like some oil and pasta, and then one transparent produce bag filled with something white. Rice, I thought? It was salt. Then, while clearing out her table, I found 3 pens, and realized all three were mine. Later I found a 4th pen, also mine. There was also some stationary paper from my desk. This explained why I could no longer find a pen in my room, they were all somehow ending up here. But I never invited her to just take my pens? It seems that every time she needed to write something down, she'd take a different pen from my desk, and never returned any. Well, that's not a horrible crime, I thought, it's just pens. None of them worked anymore, even though I made sure to only keep working pens on my desk.
I thought about what her employer said, about her being messy and leaving stuff everywhere, and even though I argued back and said to her my roommate was nice, some of it didn't feel so true anymore. She was leaving stuff everywhere, and created lots of messes. The first week she arrived we cleaned together, but that was the last time she cleaned. Every other time it was me cleaning alone. And she would sometimes spill stuff on the floor, or on the stovetop, and leave it. Or leave all counters cluttered to the point where I had to move her stuff before using them. But I thought she was just too busy to pay attention to things like that. Then while cleaning I found one of my fanciest kitchen cloths, with several holes burned trough it. That is a bit too chaotic, I thought. Why must you burn my cloth?
I was riddled with a lack of understanding of what happened; how could she have been here in the morning, talked to me like everything was okay, and now I will never see her again in my life, and never know why? Why would she do that? I have in the past, helped roommates flee from abusive situations, and if they had to quickly move, I would help them pack, lie to their abusers for them, hide their stuff they couldn't take with, so they could come get it later. Why would she find me unsafe to tell the truth to? I would have helped. I would have told her employer whatever she wanted me to. I've been on her side and advocating for her from the start. I convinced the employer when she was sick to let her off work, I held her hand when her eyes were sick, I bought her medicine, I offered to go anywhere and everywhere with her to translate and speak on her behalf when she needed anything. It couldn't have been just because I was moody and sad for a few days. I couldn't understand it.
The only reasons I could think of why she did that, was either she was worried I'd be mad she's leaving, worried I'd try to stop or follow her (which I wouldn't), or someone else instructed her on what to do and they spelled out to her to tell nobody.
The lady who wanted to move in called me again, and said she actually wanted to come and sleep here the same evening, and I now only had a few hours to clean everything out. I was exhausted, shaken, emotioanlly in shambles. But I washed all the windows, cleaned the fridge, washed the furniture and the floor, changed all the decor, put my spare cover and fresh bedding in the other room so the new roommate could sleep there without having to buy anything. The new lady has a list of red flags on her too; some of her behaviour is what I wouldn't want in a roommate, however, what choice do I have. I welcomed her, made her tea, explained all the rules, and then witdrew to my room to eat some peanut butter because I had forgotten to eat all day due to stress and shock.
And then I wrote this down! It's still the same day as I'm writing it. I talked to my roommate in the morning and now a new person I don't know is in that room, and I'm still stunned. What on earth happened today? I still want a phone call with an explanation. I didn't deserve to be left like that. I can't make out what to think of her now, this has never happened to me before. I had people leave on short notice, but never secretly, never while lying to me about what they're doing.
I still feel like she'll come here any second! Like I'll hear her voice again saying hi and how are you. But I never will again. It feels so weird. I'm both sad and relieved. She must be in a better place, far from her employer and with her friends who understand her and can help her find a better job. I'm relieved she's probably safer. But I'm sad about not getting a goodbye. Sad about being blocked, when all I wanted was an explanation. Sad about 'I would tell you if I was leaving'. How many times in life do you get anxious, then reassured that you're worrying for nothing, but then the anxiety turns out to be correct and the person purposefully lied? That doesn't bode well for future references.
I can't figure out if she was a nice person, and there were good reasons warranting her leaving like this, or whether I just misjudged her.
So yeah, unsatisfying as it is, this is the end of my Nepali roommate era, we sure had,,, times, and it sure did, end. I would like to apply for the drama free life from now on please.
