“the class commentary in saltburn was shit” WHAT CLASS COMMENTARY???? NOT EVERY MOVIE WITH RICH PEOPLE HAS TO OR SHOULD HAVE CLASS COMMENTARY. EMERALD FENNELL KNOWS VERY WELL THAT SHE IS NOT THE RIGHT DIRECTOR FOR A MOVIE ABOUT CLASS COMMENTARY WHICH IS WHY SHE DID NOT WRITE A MOVIE ABOUT CLASS COMMENTARY.

A Love That Hurts: Tim and Danny’s Toxic Tango
It didn’t start like this.
In the beginning, their love had been easy. They found comfort in each other—a soft place to land when the rest of the world felt too sharp. Tim loved Danny’s laugh, the way it lit up a room even when everything else felt dark. Danny adored Tim’s quiet strength, the way he always seemed to know how to pick up the pieces.
For a while, they were each other’s saving grace. Tim helped Danny feel grounded, giving him the stability he hadn’t known since Amity Park became more battlefield than home. Danny made Tim feel alive, like he wasn’t just another cog in the Bat-machine—like he was someone worth loving.
But that kind of love is hard to hold onto when you don’t know how to nurture it.
------------------------
The cracks started small: an offhand comment here, a tense silence there. They chalked it up to stress, but the arguments began to escalate, unraveling the love they’d built. Neither of them knew how to fix it, so they didn’t try.
One fight bled into another. Danny’s voice was sharp. “They’re my friends, Tim. Something you’d know about if you still talked to yours. When was the last time you even answered Cassie or Steph? You’re too busy trying to fix things that don’t need fixing.”
Tim didn’t hesitate. “And when was the last time Val actually came through for you? She’s got her own problems—why does she need to patrol with you? Are you just keeping her around for the nostalgia? Or are you afraid of letting her go?”
Danny’s lips curled into a bitter smile. “Right, because you’re the expert on letting go. How many of Kon’s clones are you going to try to ‘save’ before you realize it’s never going to bring him back?”
Tim flinched, his voice low and venomous. “At least I don’t run back to my exes when I feel like I’m losing control. What’s next, Danny? You calling Sam and Tucker to bail you out?”
Danny laughed, hollow and sharp. “You really think I need them? I’m here, Tim. With you. Maybe if you spent less time in your spreadsheets, you’d see that.”
The fights always ended the same: one of them storming off, slamming doors, followed by hours of silence. When they apologized, it wasn’t about fixing anything—just avoiding another explosion.
Neither could admit the truth: they weren’t protecting each other—they were just too afraid to let go
------------------------
Danny didn’t just distance Tim from his friends; he actively cut them out. He deleted Cassie’s texts before Tim could see them, until eventually, she stopped trying. When Tim noticed, Danny shrugged. “She’s probably busy,” he said casually, though his tone left no room for argument.
Tim didn’t push. After all, he wasn’t innocent. When Val invited Danny to patrol with her, Tim was quick to sow doubt. “You really think Amity Park can’t survive one night without you? Or is it just about her? Seems like you don’t trust me to be enough.”
Danny hesitated, his frustration visible, but he stayed. Over time, Val’s invitations stopped, and Danny didn’t ask why.
------------------------
Sam and Tucker’s visit to Gotham was no different. Danny had been excited to see them, but when the weekend came, Tim hit a low point.
“Do you really need to see them right now?” Tim asked, his voice soft but pointed. “It’s been rough lately. I thought you’d want to focus on us.”
Danny faltered, guilt creeping in. “They already planned the trip…”
“And what about me?” Tim pressed, his voice taking on an edge. “Am I supposed to just sit here and wait while you run back to them? Is that what this is?”
Danny canceled the plans. He didn’t explain, just sent Sam a curt text: Can’t make it. Something came up. He ignored the flood of concerned messages that followed, shoving his phone into a drawer.
When Tim noticed the tension, he didn’t comment. Instead, he doubled down. “You’re better off without them. They don’t understand this life. Not like I do.”
Danny nodded, even as the distance from Sam and Tucker grew into something he didn't know how to bridge.
Tim wasn’t immune to Danny’s tactics either. Bruce invited Tim to family dinner, but Danny’s reaction was immediate. “You’re seriously going to leave me here? After everything?” he asked, his tone more accusation than question.
“It’s just dinner,” Tim said weakly, but Danny’s narrowed eyes stopped him.
“Right. And how long before you’re ‘just’ staying overnight at the Manor? Before Bruce drags you back into his plans? You think they care about you? They care about what you can do for them.”
Tim stayed, sending Bruce a quick excuse. When Dick called the next day, Tim brushed him off with a clipped, “Busy.” Danny noticed the tension but said nothing, a smug satisfaction flickering in his eyes when Tim didn’t bring up the family again.
When Damian later referred to Tim as “too busy playing house,” Danny felt a pang of guilt that he quickly buried under pride. At least Tim was his, now.
------------------------
They were each other’s shields against the world, but it came at a cost.
Danny missed Sam and Tucker fiercely but couldn’t bring himself to reach out, not when Tim would undoubtedly notice. Tim felt the growing distance from the Bats like a weight he couldn’t shake, but he didn’t try to repair it—not when Danny so clearly needed him more.
The truth was simple and ugly: they weren’t protecting each other. They were controlling each other.
Danny missed the Tim who made him feel safe. Tim missed the Danny who didn’t flinch at “I love you.” But neither of them could stop. Because if Sam and Tucker weren’t there for Danny, and the Bats weren’t there for Tim, they only had each other.
And maybe that was the point.

This came to me earlier, and now I am utterly obsessed: While it was clear to me that Odysseus stabbing Poseidon wasn't any kind of Vengeance, there was one act of Vengeance after all, even if inadvertent—it was Odysseus disproving Poseidon's "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" belief right in front of his very eyes. With him as the subject, even.
Think about it—the fact that Poseidon remained ruthless and insisted on punishing Odysseus was the only reason he got stabbed repeatedly. If Poseidon had been merciful, if he had accepted Odysseus' offer of forgiveness, he would've been fine. His own ruthlessness backfired so hard on him this time that I am sincerely hoping it haunts him forever.
I am actually utterly obsessed with Poseidon thinking back to Odysseus "Maybe you could learn to forgive?" on a daily, no an hourly basis. I cannot and will not lie to you that is unironically my favorite moment in the whole Vengeance saga just because of what it says about both the characters—about Odysseus for offering and Poseidon for declining (and also because Odysseus sings it in Poseidon's own motif which is just absolutely brilliant.) And this makes me love it even more.
Poseidon was going to decline, we all know that. I don't think anyone watching—even Odysseus, probably—expected him to accept. But then I'm picturing him lying there, bleeding into the stone, and, against his will, wondering whether maybe he should have. Maybe if he had, he wouldn't be in pain. Maybe if he had not killed Odysseus' fleet ten years ago, he wouldn't be in pain either. Maybe this one time ruthlessness wasn't mercy upon himself—maybe this time, his one grand belief was wrong. Maybe ... it was always wrong.
Obviously, he would never admit to these thoughts, he would slap himself for having them one second later. But I simply need this self-proclaimed god of ruthlessness to be utterly haunted by that and question whether he made the right choice or no—whether he's even lived by the correct philosophy all his immortal life—and no matter what, be too stubborn to admit he was wrong.
He's trying to pretend like nothing changed, but the thoughts still remain. They pester him. They won't leave him alone. Especially every time someone—anyone—is kind to him for whatever reason, they come crashing back into him and they won't leave.
"What if my own ruthlessness hurt me that time?"
"What if ruthlessness isn't mercy upon ourselves after all?"
"What if I'm wrong?"
"What if I have always been wrong?"
The most dreadful thoughts imaginable to a god as proud and stubborn and old as Poseidon, but they're there now and he can't do anything about them. You all don't understand how much I NEED this god to jolt up in his bed at 3 am after having a dream or nightmare about something related to one of his many ruthless deeds (maybe even sinking Odysseus' fleet) and go "BUT WHAT IF I HAD LEARNED TO FORGIVE?? WHAT IF I STILL COULD??" only to immediately slap himself for it because that's absolutely ridiculous.
He is left to watch this belief shatter before his very eyes as he's clinging to the remains of it desperately, trying to keep it all from crumbling. Not because he genuinely believes he's right anymore, but because he simply cannot imagine ... does not know how to live by any other philosophy.
No matter whether it's objectively correct or not, it's the very thing that defines him. The thing he's known for. He has built his entire image around this, he cannot give it up no matter what ... at least not quickly or without help.
But as much he would seek to deny it, his core belief has now been proven wrong; he has actually lived through an instance where it was wrong, and he can do nothing to erase those memories or conclusions from his mind no matter how much he yearns to go back to simpler times.
And that was the real Vengeance, guys—possibly the biggest, most painful existential crisis of Poseidon's immortal life. I rest my case.
Although before I disappear back into the void I simply must give a shout out to @o3o-lapd-o3o (this came to me during a conversation in one of their comment sections for the glorious Friends In Higher Places AU, which is quite possibly my favorite piece of EPIC fan content that exists ...)

HERE COMES THE UFO! FEISTY FOUR.
Aughhh I love making them so much. I haven't draw Moray and Ed yet, and all of them deserve a little love. Some mini-background below for y'all! (Plus Starlo's if you want to check him out)
ACE, local cheat and trickster. Starlo met him in the bar swindling people, and he impressed the card dealer by pointing out his tricks but staying silent just to see how many people Ace could trick in an hour. The two played a (probably) cheat free card game after and hit it off. He later became the grave digger of the East Dunes.. (except he's never buried anyone. He just gets up early and digs fresh holes in the grave yard with people's names on them to scare them.) Also a bit of a jerk, especially regarding fashion.
MOOCH, master petty thief and squirrelly tax collector. Starlo hid her when she was running from the Royal Guard on her last fatal warning, and she's been reluctantly indebted to him ever since. She's a firm believer in coup d'état, trying to kill Starlo when she gets the chance to 'become leader of the group'. She either doesn't really want to or is a terrible killer compared to thief, because Star catches her every time. She lost her eye to her last run in with the Royal Guard, with threat of death if she's caught again.
MORAY, child of mine owners Gilbert and Angie. They've worked in the mines themself as a kid, and they've lost many fingers to work place accidents over the years. They met Starlo while they were both kids, trying to sell gems to buy their way out of their doomed future of mining, making them childhood friends. They were inducted into the posse much later on. They're the treasurer, since Mooch can't be trusted to hold the G.
ED, brawler and protector of the group. He's kind of a sweetheart out of character, and is the only one in the group who Starlo owes something to. He saved him from a shady dealer back in waterfalls when Starlo was still gathering up human movies to watch, losing part of his ear. He is not afraid to hold back a punch, but he holds back his strength quite a bit.
ALL of them share one trait, one obsession. This one trait keeps them together, represents their goals as a group, and makes them corrupt overseers of the Wild East. And that is an inherent lust for power. All of them have been mistreated by the Underground in a way, and like Star, craved a bit of power over their lives and others. Even Ed, has good natured as he is, finds a guilty pleasure in their roles as Starlo's powerful posse.
If Starlo lost sight on their goal of maintaining their power over the Wild East, they'd probably form a mutiny. But what are the chances of that?

In Padme's defense: all of The Phantom Menace. She remembers sweet Ani who risked his life to help strangers and didn't even ASK her (her! Aqueen!) to help him in return.
So like, I do get her ignoring some red flags with "I know he's a good person deep down who just had a bad day" because her first impression was "person with no power risks everything to save a planet he has no connections to."
It wasn't smart to ignore the red flags, but I do sort of understand it.
Oh no see the red flags are a part of the reason she likes him. you gotta think, Padmé's pretty much NEVER done anything for herself. like EVER. she was helping refugees as a small child, entered the government or smthn age 9, and BECAME QUEEN AT 14. she then went STRAIGHT into being senator and continuing to put serving her people above all else she literally never has a moment for herself
and then anakin shows up like hi i'm in love with you i think you're amazing (not queen or senator amidala -- he thinks PADME is amazing) and she KNOWS it'd be insane to be with him. she KNOWS its a stupid risk and she shouldn't but thats literally the appeal!! she wants to do something selfish!! for her!!!! like sure yeah he cares abt ppl a lot whatever. but the red flags are an essential part of anidala. he's insane but so is she

Chilcille huh... ngl I was a little suspicious. like why would you do that, huh... hope youre not mischaracterizing anyone in your weird and wacky ship. a little weird. but then you said they both had flat asses and you know what? I salute you and your perfect characterization
The fact you seem to think you managed to not make this ask insulting is baffling. What the hell. Fuck off.
If you actually care to be open minded about the ship, I talk about marchil on my sideblog 24/7. Funnily enough I’m currently 4k words deep into an analysis of their character arc together in canon, but that’ll take some more days to get done. Some notable posts:
Of course without counting the analyses of Chilchuck on his own I’ve made, like my masterpost on his family situation. Or better yet you could also read my fics for them, see how weird and wacky they are here.
Wanna talk about mischaracterisation? They’re literally a comedic duo who interacts 24/7. Marchil is crazy bc ppl are like "did those shipper read with their eyes CLOSED?? They have no chemistry!" Meanwhile canon is like: "She’s obsessed with knowing everything she can about him and she reads him like a book." In her eyes he’s like that extra rare and hard and shiny unlockable dating sim character, that brooding mysterious character trope that’s thrilling to crack open and typically is at the center of the plot. The wife roleplay???? "Hey, did you know his type is blondes. Hey did you know he likes his women pretty and blonde. Hey did you know he likes her hair. Hey did you know that he teases her 24/7 and it’s one of the few things that consistently gets him grinning because he finds her reactions cute." Like a schoolyard bully pulling on the pigtails of the girl he likes.

It’s not like they have any thematic narratives or relevance. It’s not like she’ll live to 1000 and has existential dread about it while he’s logically gonna be her next friend to die at 50 and wether it’s romantic or platonic it’ll terrify her to lose him. It’s not like it’s fear of death x fear of rejection so they’re both obsessed with the thought of loss looming, past and ongoing. It’s not like it’s half-elf x half-foot and there’s an inherent journey that was and still is to dispel prejudices and truly come to see each other. It’s not like he’s painfully real and raw and flawed but still a good man, that he’s not the figure of prince charming that she’s always dreamed of while still being virtuous and worth fighting for. Or you know, her hair being golden and it being the epitome of beauty to him, and his hair turning silver and it being Marcille’s worst nightmare.
Just a weird wacky ship who means nothing but shallow things to people who have weirdo reasons for liking it. Like can you not. If you’re not imaginative enough to think of reasons why this ship may have an appealing dynamic that’s not my issue. But yes, yes, they’re both flat asses to me, thanks.

I noticed there’s a lot of parallels between Raph and Leo they act like each other sometimes but I don’t know if there’s any parallels between Raph and Mikey or Raph and Donnie.
Hi! ^w^
agreed 100%, Raph and Leo have a ton of parallels, but I'm not sure about the other two. Been honestly wracking my brain trying to think if I noticed anything in particular.
For Raph and Donnie, the first thing that came to mind is that, if Raph isn't around for it, Donnie will pinch-hit for him to smack Mikey upside the head for a dumb joke.
Beyond that hmm.... would Raph taking control of that vehicle when they were storming the Shredder's tower count? Or Don ripping off the fugitoid's head off in a moment of panic?
Oh, maybe the fact that the two of them are the most likely to make friends! Like, April is friends with all four of them, but she's clearly closest with Don, just like how Casey is besties with Raph but friends with all of them. Also, I kind of feel like if I try to remember subplots allies, my mind will associate them with either Don or Raph. Like, Raph has all those one-offs where he made friends with people (the little kid, the granny, the racing crew) and even Traximus, and then with Don I think of The Professor, Honeycutt, Leatherhead. Mikey makes friends with the superheroes, but that's about it, and loner Leo is just friends with Usagi. (Hold on, sidebar, totally irrelevant, but I can't have been the only one low-key annoyed that they used Gennosuke as the extra character in Raph's section of the intro for the later seasons. Like, im assuming they had to bc they used Usagi for Leo's but come on!!!!)
As for Raph and Mikey, potentially a controversial opinion, but I feel like Raph also has a tendency to make ill-timed jokes like Mikey does. I wish I was keeping track of what I meant so I could give you actual examples, but I wasn't thinking about it that hard, I just know it happened often enough that I was like "wild that Raph gives Mikey such a hard time when he does the same thing" in the back of my mind while watching. but who knows, maybe my brain is making that up.
I'm not sure if anything else comes to mind. You'd think there'd be more considering how often Raph and Mikey butt heads but nah, I can't think anything.
