“Your hands.”

William smiles, tiredly, glancing down at the chapped fingers crooked around the tarnished silverware.

“Yes,” he says. “I know.”

“Don’t they hurt?”

“I’m used to it.”

He smiles again, after he says it; I’m used to it, don’t worry. He eats fine, does not wince as he moves and flexes the cracking skin, but it does not take long for them to bleed; sluggishly, slowly, pearling along tectonic lines, pooling in creases and knuckle dips.

Niccolò returns to his dinner, and watches him. The tap of his foot is at odds with the clink clink clink of his knife, the scrape of his fork along his chipped front tooth. His shoulders droop but his face does not, hair still pinned back, eyes sleepy and far away. His freckles seem to twinkle under the flickering of the candlelight, making those blue eyes into something sparkling.

“You should sleep,” Niccolò says, swallowing. “You’re tired.”

William finishes the last of his plate, and smiles, again, small and pretty and tired, still, but the gentle kind.

“It is my turn with the washing.”

“Yes,” Niccolò agrees, “but you are sleepy. And your hands are chapped.”

William says nothing more, only hums, but he kisses Niccolò’s forehead as he passes, gentle, squeezing his shoulder, and sets his dishes on the counter by the sink, untouched.

“Goodnight,” he calls from the bedroom, as Niccolò’s hands are slippery from the soap, and warm.

“Goodnight,” Niccolò responds, and turns back to the sink. He can hear the bed springs creak, and William sigh, and he smiles, waiting on the snores. They do not take long. He hums along to them as he finishes, washing up the pots, too, and the oven, and the counters. Soon the kitchen is sparkling and the sun sits low on the horizon, and he dusts, too, having noticed the griminess floating among the golden rays.

At the end of it his hands are smarting. The soap clings to his skin, even as he rinses them, and he tries to avoid picking at his knuckles, rubbing the skin; reddening them further.

He tries to imagine this, day in and day out; bedpans and food trays and cutlery and surgical knives, all dirtied, all reused. Stinging lye soap and coppery bleach. Aching, chapping hands, curled to bleeding, stretched to tearing; worn through elastic.

He retreats to his study, frowning.

This note has been showing up in the comments section of a few of my posts, and I just want to be clear...

I don't delete comments!

As long as everyone is respectful and thoughtful in giving their thoughts, ideas, and opinions, I don't see a need to moderate comments, especially since the reason I'm even on tumblr is to discuss the turtles.

With that being said, I am curious.... Is this notification showing up because people have blocked other commenters? Or is it that some folks feel the need to delete their own comments?

I just want to make sure that no one feels stifled, unheard, or unseen!

Hmph...it seems only inevitable that the Government would contact me through my preferred means of communication (the site of Tumblr). But on Anon? I didn't take you for such a coward, but what else should I expect...

How'd I find out it was a hoax? Simple enough. All my life, I've known I was better than other people, though I dared not utter these ruminations aloud. It was only natural that I would become a person of much curiosity and interest for the government. Doubtless you would want 2 know how my brain machinates.

And, of course, you wouldn't want me 2 know I was a subject of study, lest the study go awry. A bit of a "Schrodinger's Cat" situation. But what you failed 2 realize is that, when dealing with a being of such superior intellect as mine, you should have known I wouldn't be distracted by such superfluous frivolities as a mere "diagnosis."

Yes...I admit, I was torn for a moment. But in the end, you did me a favor. This so-called "diagnosis" caused me 2 reflect upon my life thus far, and in doing so catch every miniscule detail relating 2 your scheme.

So, Government, though I'd like 2 take credit for this discovery, I'm afraid it was you who did all the work by making it so easily accessible. You should've thought twice before letting those lies slip from Denise's deceitful lips, because sometimes, our lies can be our own undoing.

“Are you done yet?” Lup asks through gritted teeth.

“The more you ask the longer Taako’s going to take.” Taako prods her shin with his foot

“How about now?”

“Yeah, no, absolutely, glad you asked actually,  cha’boy’s completely done.”

“Really?” Lup relaxes her face. ”Lemme see!”

“No, Goofus, put your face back!”

Lup sighs, but settles back into her cross legged pose and resumes the terrifying smile. “You owe me.”

“It’s worrying how well you can enunciate like that.”

“Years of practice.” She winks at him as he peers over the canvas.

“A multi-talented muse.” Taako squints at Lup, then ducks back behind his stupid tiny easel. He should probably prop it up somewhere else, but the legs hadn’t been right when they were fully extended for years, so the sofa with some structural cushions was his studio of choice. He’s applying the last few brush strokes to the teeth when Lup starts to fidget again.

“Are you done now though?”

“Just let me…” Taako looks at Lup, back at the page, and back again. “Yeah, you’re good.”

“Can I see?”

“Taako isn’t moving it. That’s what smudged it last time.”

Lup vaults unnecessarily over the back of the sofa, then runs round to stand behind him. She takes a deep, reverent breath. “Koko… It’s glorious. Your best yet. You captured the emotions so well.”

“It’s true.” Taako nods solemnly. “Cha’boy has a gift.”

“Everything your brush touches turns to gold.” Lup rests her head on his shoulder to get a closer view. He absently rubs his cheek against hers.

“Uh huh. How many gold specifically? Like 400?”

Lup snorts. “Dream big, why not six?”

“Good point, Taako needs to remember his worth.”

“Hell yeah!” Lup stands and pats him reassuringly on the back.

“Ooooh, that’s good.” Taako grabs his brush and makes a final addition.

Lup waits for him to finish. “Perfect. You’re a genius.”

fully aware that a night of sleep might be enough for me to realize it's garbage and still majorly lacking BUT I JUST WROTE A QUERY DRAFT FOR MY MERMAID STORY AND I THINK IM FINALLY ONTO SOMETHING. IT ONLY TOOK, WHAT, 5 YEARS TO FIGURE OUT QUERIES?!?!?!

So there was a discussion on Twitter today regarding Harry Potter tattoos and how there are more people regretting Potter tattoos than there are people regretting gender affirming care, and someone mentioned that their wife had HP tattoos but doesn't regret them even though they don't support JKR anymore. Someone replied to them saying "your wife's okay parading the marks of a TERF on her skin? Gross".

Perhaps unwisely, I decided to try and get involved in a respectful way.

I was going to write a whole deep and long post but I'm out of spoons quite frankly and just want to eat some ice-cream while watching a comfort movie or show, so maybe I'll write a full explanation/explain things better another time, but right now I just don't have the spoons.

All I'll say is this: I have spent MANY years wearing bandages on my wrists - I think I'd rather not have my family, friends and co-workers thinking I've hurt or tried to k*ll myself again to be honest.

Note: everyone is entitled to their own opinion. No I am NOT telling people to abandon said and use these. Yes I understand that said is often good enough, but sometimes you WANT to draw attention to how the character is speaking. If you think adding an action/movement to your dialogue is 'good enough' hate to break it to you but that ruins immersion much more than a casual 'mumbled'. And for the last time: this is just a resource list, CALM DOWN. Hope that covers all the annoyingly redundant replies :)

Checked and the person who made the callout post made their first tumblr post a week ago, so they're definitely new to the fandom

This is not to say new and younger fans aren't welcome or only cause problems or anything, but that was expected; they tend to, from what I've seen, react strongly and bring up similar things each time

I certainly did the same when I first joined. I was learning, and if any of you find that one specific bad take I had several years ago and see how poorly I articulated myself, argued, and reacted to being wrong..... I'm changed I swear I'm better now i swear

Well, if you're not going to delete the post, could you at least take the BakuDeku tag off that post? It's frustrating and upsetting to see it. Already have enough hate posts using the tags, don't add to it please.

Keeping the tag up on that post just seems hurtful. You wouldn't like to see hate posts using tags of your ships, would you?

Frustrating and upsetting? Wormchamp72 knows the meaning of those words all too well...I know how many times I have been frustrated and upset by people who pretend 2 share my interests only 2 turn their backs on me the second things get a little TOO real.

I can understand your apprehension, but make no mistake: I am no fairweather fan. I have relented and removed the tag from the post.

As for my ships...they don't exist (RE: New Years: there could be time 2 change). I myself am not drawn 2 the frivolities of romance (I find myself fascinated by the dark, twisted psyches of individuals rather than couples), but I suppose I can understand the appeal 2 others. Perhaps there is love out there for this worm yet...but as of right now it is not a focus of mine.

If I saw any hate in the Jeff the Killer tag, let's just say...I would feel a lot like Jeff the Killer himself. Betrayed. Hurt. So even though we have our disagreements, Anon, I will take the tag off.
