my chronically annoyed ass comes across one of those "canon characters react to fanon ships" and one of them was tomarry and in the post, harry's like, "UM EW WTF.. blah blah" and i just got So pissed, like, just because the ship that you like is canon doesn't make you morally superior! obviously canon harry wouldn't want to get fucked by voldemort! but you do realise that talented people who make this pairing plausible with their amazing writing skills and headcanons exist, right?

and another post that was like, "i can't believe millenials get these amazing ships like jily, remadora, hinny, (continues stating het canon pairings) but gen z decided these were trash because they were fxm... and decided drarry, tomarry.. (continues stating gay pairings) etc. were better," and, like,

NO???? you just stated the most bland, boring pairings in the whole series?? it's not our fault your reading comprehension is so abysmal that you think jily, a white heterosexual couple that got married straight out of highschool is more interesting than the hot mess that is drarry/tomarry???

like, i'm not bashing you for liking canon pairings, but it is factually untrue that fanon pairings are automatically less interesting than canon pairings! that's a you problem! your statement reads like you think heterosexual pairings are better than homosexual pairings and i hope you realise that just sounds homophobic.

and also! grindeldore doesn't count! there is no canon evidence for it. jkr did say it was canon, but it... it literally wasn't in the books.

coming on here to quickly rant abt remadora. Okk yess I know ‘another wolfstar shipper shitting on remadora’ here me out okay!!! Just for a sec!! I read the Harry Potter books for the first time back in 2017 and remadora was my shit. Remus was my second favourite male character and tonks was my second fave female character. (Harry and cho were my first faves — yes I self inserted into Harry and had the biggest crush on cho — yes I cried when they broke up — shut up we all had our embarrassing phases!!)

Anyways back to remadora, I just thought they were so cute together, even tho it felt a little random. But one thing that I remember that really pissed me off was the ship name. I never understood why it was ‘remadora’ and not ‘ronks’. Tonks hated being called Dora!! I remember ranting abt this on my Wattpad acc (yes I know SHHHH) when I was reviewing all the Hp ships.

I don’t ship it anymore (obviously lol) and looking back, I think my issue with the ship name is lowkey symbolic for my key problem with remadora — it basically removes everything that made her interesting in the first place and reduced her to just Another Woman Character in the series. When she got with Remus, she became more mellow, more feminine, more complacent — which are fine traits btw — but that’s not tonks!! Now as I’m older, and re-reading the series, I see a lot of subtext for a gender non-conforming and possibly genderqueer person forced into a heterosexual relationship simply becoz jo didn’t want ppl thinking Remus was gay and coz she had this weird thing abt all ‘good’ women being mothers.

Which brings me to tonk’s pregnancy — I wouldn’t mind a storyline for tonks having a child — I just hate how jkr had to fit it into this whole nuclear family model and get her and Remus to get married. I feel like a more compelling, or at least consistent characterisation would have tonks having a one night stand with Remus after they were both mourning their cousin/uncle/lover’s death. Shit happens sometimes. And it would be interesting to see Tonks and Remus grapple with this and what it means for their child.

Another head cannon I saw on tik tok was that Tonks had a threesome with Fleur and Bill and since polyamory wasn’t socially acceptable she asked Remus to be the stand in legal father — and ofc Remus would say yes coz he’s Remus!! This hc sounded wild to me at first but they all gave me queer vibes and it just makes me happy so now this is the headcanon I stick with lol.

Anyways not every woman has to have a husband and 2-3 kids to be a good person jkr!! Families are complex! Women are complex! And Tonks deserves better imo.

P.s. if you ship remadora that’s completely okay!! This is just my opinion!! I’ve seen remadora shippers who don’t water down tonk’s character/subtextual queerness — I just hate how jkr depicted the ship in canon.

Thoughts on Wolfstar?

tldr: i used to enjoy it but the fandom ruined it for me.

the only wolfstar i really enjoy reading is angsty wolfstar, you see.

the thing is- i'm a bit of a prongsfoot truther. i think the two of them - sirius and james - were platonic soulmates. and i think that sirius' story, the themes of his character are not centred around romantic love/attraction. i'm fairly convinced that giving him a partner in the canon wouldn't have added anything to him, and perhaps even taken something away. i can see unrequited!prongsfoot (where sirius doesn't even realise that he's in love with james) as potentially canon.

and, to me, there are two main characteristics that a good wolfstar story has:

james was the most important person in both sirius and remus' lives

the two of them were deeply suspicious of one another after leaving hogwarts

i love the idea of the two of them getting together over their shared grief over losing james to lily in 7th year, each seeing so plainly the other's jealousy and not being able to name their own. i love the idea of a torrid love affair with tons of hate!sex during the first wizarding war because they firmly believe the other's the spy but they love each other. i love the idea of them reuniting in grimmauld and feeling as if they have to cling on to each other because they're the only thing the other has left of the best time of their lives - but they can't, they can't understand each other. sirius sees something blooming between remus and nymphadora and can't help but feeling cheated out of a friend yet. again. and why is he the only person that values friendship more than love?

i love the idea of them referring to their romance as a friendship still, even though no one else would call it that. sirius can't help but feel resentful that remus gets sent on order missions, remus can't help but resent sirius for the privileges he still - still, even as a convicted murderer, however falsely - has. remus is dirt poor, you guys. not many authors underline this properly. so he cannot help but resent someone who throws out ancient family heirlooms like it's nothing.

but. the main problem i have with wolfstar is the fandom. a whole fandom was born around it and i don't particularly care for it. i hate the tropes it upholds - extremely femme/submissive sirius & alpha moony is... it makes me mad on a visceral level, you guys have no idea, and i find it incredibly homophobic - and the way people in it act, the complete perversion of both their characters by people who've never even read the original source material. i don't care for the slander of dora's character either. i much preferred the sweater-wearing, tea-loving, shy remus and leather-jacket wearing sirius that was the fandom stereotype some years ago. it wasn't perfectly canonical, but it also wasn't ridiculous.

Am I the only one who thinks that it's okay for people to not like the canon female love interests of M/M ships? Even if it's because of that? Like, I could see where you're coming from, but so many het non-canon ship's fans hate the male love interests.

Just for examples:

Harmione Shippers with Ron

Jacella shippers with Edward (and also probably Bedward shippers with Jacob too back in the day)

Gale x Katniss (don't know the ship name sawry) with Peeta

And also, this kind of thing just happens so much rarer with gay ships than het ships. Like the average gay shipper of wolfstar or whatever will love the canon female love interest just think she's the wrong fit (I have met many a lesbian wolfstar shipper with a crush on Tonks) while I can absolutely not say that about ships like Harmione. The minority can exist. They're not doing anything illegal.

The only time I can kind of -- kind of -- see it is the Perachel -- Percabeth thing (and that's not even gay). This is because Percabeth shippers that hate on Rachel are often the first people to say that Luke was redeemed despite him being just as much of a boundary to Percabeth as Rachel was, if not more. If anyone was blamed for that, it was more often that not Annabeth.

Even so, this can still be explained by character bias. Rachel was only in the last one and a half books, and was very much a side character, having very little to do with the main plot. Her arc was small, and she existed mainly to create drama. Luke, however, was not only present throughout all five books, being introduced at around the same time as Annabeth, but had an extremely long and complex character arc that wasn't just related to the main plot, but was one of them.

OH, how fun. hmm, what emoji would Lily Evans overuse... Well I think she'd like this one a lot: 💅🏼 And I think she'd use different colored hearts depending on the person/circumstance. Red is generic, the catch-all heart emoji; if you receive yellow hearts, you know she cares about you, and you're someone who really makes her smile; she sends purple hearts when she's being particularly loving, because she thinks the color feels comforting; and one day, when red clearly isn't right, purple isn't needed, and yellow just isn't special enough...she sends James Potter a green heart. Her favorite color for her favorite person.
