oh it's so good, it's so so so good. i like every single thing about it.

firstly, when i found out carlos was joining williams i was like oh god, this absolute bombshell, poor alex. BUT IN FACT. there's carlos looking very cute but very tiny and honestly nerdier than he's ever been before, and there's alex who is so tall and so handsome and carlos just keeps trying to lay his gentle fingers on alex's person and nO ONE BLAMES HIM WE ALL GET IT.

okay but speaking of carlos being a nerd "everyone should be asked the same questions otherwise you introduce error" like which intro to research methods university class did he attend, this dedication to the scientific method. i feel like carlos's nerd potential was previously damped by charles' unrelenting himbo energy (which was also great, to be clear), and then we've got alex immediately bringing all the boys to the yard with his unrelenting negging "there's no way" the racing bulls scored so well, like, king, he's telling you the scores right now in fact.

like i am fucking dying. carlos's pronunciation of rue was so good. everything about this video was so stealth hot and i haven't even started talking about alex saying he likes cats because you have to earn their love.

i just get this feeling that alex brings out more of carlos's full self? like obviously they're filming for marketing etc. we're not seeing into his soul, but i find it soooo interesting to see the carlos we get around alex. he's a dork, he's pedantic, he cares a lot about following the rules. at one point, carlos has gotten the answer and the host says he's wrong and they fact check it and actually carlos is right like mY FUCKING GOD.

anyway, those two yappers did horribly because of course they did, but we learned that alex drives with catchy songs stuck in his head and we all found it very sexy when carlos said rue and frankly i could not be more here for it.

I rewatched The Avatar and the Fire Lord a few days ago, and god, what a good episode. Revealing that Zuko is a descendant of both Sozin and Roku was a genius move (and that's not even getting into the Zuko/Aang parallels of it all). But there's something the show doesn't seem to think of, and that I haven't seen anyone in the fandom discuss either — the fact that Zuko isn't the only one descendant from both these men. Azula is, too.

The conclusion of this story that Iroh presents to Zuko at the end of the episode is that he alone — because of his lineage from both men the war was started from — is uniquely capable of cleansing the sins of his family and the fire nation and bringing peace to the world. But, the thing is, there's two sides of this conflict, and therefor two sides to its legacy. The external and the personal. The legacy of the external is the war, but the legacy of the personal is the sibling rivalries that kept repeating through generations of the royal family.

Though Roku and Sozin were not actually related, they were childhood friends as close as siblings and fucking shared a birthday, so the symbolism works. We know very little about Azulon's childhood or if he even had any direct sibling rivalries like this at all, but from what I can find on his wiki page, we know that Sozin favoured him over "other family" (I'm assuming his siblings). What we know very well, however, is what happened in the next generation between Iroh and Ozai. We know Azulon favoured Iroh over Ozai, and that this likely is the initial source of their hatred for each other, which resulted in perhaps the worst sibling rivalry of them all (what with the indirect patricide and throne stealing).

Then we go on to Zuko and Azula, whose upbringing kept going in the same patterns, but the key difference is them being the first ones to both be descendant from the men who started it all. If Zuko having this lineage makes him uniquely capable of ending the cycle of war in his country and restoring balance to the world, shouldn't that mean that both he and Azula having this lineage makes them uniquely capable of ending the cycle of brutal sibling rivalries and restoring balance to their family?

This conclusion I've presented seems to fit perfectly with the lesson Aang draws from the same story as well:

"Roku was just as much Fire Nation as Sozin was, right? If anything, their story proves that anyone's capable of great good and great evil. Everyone, even the Fire Lord and the Fire Nation, have to be treated like they're worth giving a chance."

I know this is supposed to be foreshadowing to Aang refusing to kill Ozai later, but I can't help but think it's even more applicable to fourteen year old Azula. It's really so ironic that the show runners thought Azula deserved what she got when their own show seems to be telling them that Zuko mending his relationship with her is what he ultimately should've done.

But, then again... that does sort of make her the perfect tragedy.

My vision for the Thunderbolts after their movie:

It's Avengers 5. Sam is leading a meeting to discuss the big threat with his newly assembled/reassembled Avengers all sitting around a big conference table. It's very serious. The door opens and in rolls Bucky, trailed by Yelena and Ava. They are fifteen minutes late, dressed in grungy semi-tactical gear similar to their Thunderbolts trailer look, wearing sunglasses, and each carrying a brightly colored smoothie. Bucky has also brought a smoothie for Sam; he walks straight to the front of the room and wordlessly hands it to Sam before going and sitting with Ava and Yelena against the wall at the back of the room, rather than at the table. Sam, entirely unsurprised and unphased by this, says "thanks Buck" and continues talking without missing a beat. The rest of the room is various degrees of surprised by this, not least because multiple of them have no idea who Yelena and/or Ava are. (Scott, knowing who Ava is, is perhaps the most surprised).

It depends anon, do you want a silly answer, a serious answer or a "serious but working within the boudaries of the script" answer?

Like, imagine bby!Billy grew up like Sitri, and then, when they turn 15, they see a loli gremlin in their head.

Serious answer that breaks the game in two : Billy immediately tells Rhea about the apparition in their head, Rhea and Sothis connect 1+1=2 and, well, either the plot is averted (idk, can Sothis pinpoint mole people around?) or Rhea realises her mom's worth moldy peanuts way earlier than she does in SS, or much like what happens in Nopes, Sothis remembers about her fam without plot convenient amnesia...

If incomplete!Sothis (but gradually recovering her memories) is around, I can see Rhea being a bit more open with Seteth and Flayn when she wakes up because, hey, Sothis' back, so the world is supposed to return on the right tracks now and the world will be fine and dandy.

Serious answer that has to work with Fodlan's writing and inability to cook something for more than 10 minutes : Billy for some reason never tells Rhea about Sothis, and yet, given how Sothis has time to recover her memories I guess Billy'd come to understand everything about relics, the nabateans and maybe they'll ask Rhea about their creation -> it ends like it does in the first situation, Rhea learns about Sothis either being incomplete or taking time to wake up, is more or less chill with it, opens a bit to her bro (?) and waits until Sothis feels ready to take Fodlan's reins or guide some humans if she feels like it (or, according to Nopes, I guess she could also become a bit pissed and insist on recovering her fallen kids, which might piss Faerghus a bit and all).

For all those answers though, bby!Billy grows to become Billy without any major changes, save that maybe they can emote was faster than they do in canon and are, bar some oddities, someone as "normal" as Sitri was, hell maybe they developed friends in the Monastery and the Officers Academy, or graduated, or became a Cardinal, or a nun, etc etc...

Still, we know canon-wise Billy is very protective towards the ones they see as family or close ones, so in a serious setting, I guess, they'll lose patience or have more of a reaction than TV static when some people will start to cry fraudulously about crests creating nobility or the CoS creating racism, or crests being the reason why everything is BaD (tm) in the world.

Fraud trying to sell some "I wonder what the world would look like without Rhea" would either be meet with a punch in the face, or at least, a serious frown - and depending on how many bedtime stories Rhea told them about "Great Emperor Wilhelm's Heroic Fight against the Forces of Evil", they might be a bit annoyed at the Hresvelgs.

For Rhea though, I suppose she'd have welcomed a new addition to the family - Billy is, regardless of them being Sothis' souljar or not, Billy, someone she cares and values as their own individual, let them be some asleep!Sothis or, just, Sitri and Jeralt's kid.

Add to the mix maybe 20 years of raising them? They'd be family and maybe help her open a bit more to the world and her family, even if she's ashamed or having worked on the res Sothis project

(I'd like some scene where Billy's annoyed when Rhea apologises for trying to resurrect Sothis, because regardless of her endgoals and what not, she still is the reason why they, and Sitri, are alive, so if she apologises for trying to res Sothis it's also as if she apologises for giving them life, which is something a Billy who was raised with a higher sense of self than being a mere sword might not find pleasant).

Like, it still sucks because he positions himself as not a leftist paragon but still left leaning. It IS disappointing i get it, even when i was kinda expecting it i held onto idk hope? that 'well maybe he won't straight up perform with cobra starship for any related or unrelated reason, that'd be cool to not see', but it's a bit much to go from seeing your fave fuck up/don't care to start making excuses for the upper-upper-middle class white guy from the US who was in 'woah! nostalgic summer camp with all my old buddies~!' mode because that's where his priorities are at. It also rubs me the wrong way that some of them seem to need to cling to the moral purity of an artist or else it's all over, like, it's up to you to decide when something crosses a line to where you're uncomfortable supporting/engaging with someone but you can't move that someone into "no, he's perfect and would never" by sheer force of excusing his behavior.

There's a lot of mixed feelings and for some the shitty feeling can coexist with enjoying their performance this weekend, others need time to process the shit and need to step away for a sec, for others maybe it was one shit too far, for others it was an 'of course he did this [eyeroll]', all those reactions (and plenty more and variants to them, i've seen about as many reactions to it as i've seen fobbies) are fine, but, not to police people's feelings i mean moreso the actions, i feel like making up reasons why your blorbo is unproblematic ain't the way to go.

I’m a sex-repulsed ace, and reading the latest chapter of 666 (as well as your analysis here on Tumblr) made me realize that I have been subconsciously thinking about MY OWN sexuality from an allo perspective? And that it has kinda been messing me up?? Like, ever since I learned that sexual attraction was actually a Thing and that it’s Important To People, I had been carrying around a fear of being deficient in some way and not being able to love to the same extent as allos. (1)

Even though I know logically that’s complete garbage and totally untrue, I felt left out of the loop because people seemed to care strongly about this thing I couldn’t even imagine. Whenever it looked like a relationship might happen I panicked for a reason that I couldn’t understand. But now I’m starting to realize that it’s because I was subconsciously terrified of an ‘ulterior motive’ behind the other person’s reasons for wanting to be with me. (2) That part of the reason they even cared was because of something I don’t experience. So thank you, because this realization just clicked into place while reading your work. The thing is, this way of thinking was just internalized in such a way that I didn’t even realize it was there until literally this week. And I think you’re right; one of the main reasons behind that is because I’ve always consumed media written from an allo perspective. (3) If ace/aros are shown at all, they’re depicted as “lacking” and their character development usually revolves around being “fixed” by the story. When I was ~10 years old my mom sometimes let me watch the Big Bang Theory with her (looking back, maybe not the best decision). Anyways, there was one episode deep into the series where Sheldon (who for the past nineish seasons was probably the closest thing to mainstream ace rep) has sex with his girlfriend for the first time. (4) Afterwards, he says something along the lines of “that was better than I thought it would be”, and it’s presented as a Very Good Thing and a big step in their relationship. I think a lifetime of stuff like that makes it very easy to internalize aphobia and feel like the lesser part of the relationship. Or to feel like the other partner is making a huge sacrifice to be with you. That got wayy too long, sorry. All that was just a lot of words to say that I appreciate you. Take care of yourself!(5)

The portrayal of asexuality that you see in media being almost exclusively as you described is very tedious to me because it presumes that something is inherently lacking in aro/aceness rather than that feeling of "lacking" being something that is induced by societal norms. Actually, one of the things that I find additionally alienating is that fandom spaces specifically have been getting better and better about ace characters - but got damn does fandom not jive with aromanticism. Like, a character doesn't want to fuck? That's becoming a liiiittle more fine, it's 2024, we stan consent. But not shipping someone romantically?? Not so easy, now.

I'm glad that my work has been something that resonated with you in this respect! Alastor cares a lot about his reputation as a demon but is pretty blatantly a person who could not possibly give less of a shit about being "wrong" for not being experiencing romantic or sexual attraction. The explanation Viv gave at one point for his own understanding of himself (that he thinks he's just "waiting for the right woman") actually stuck out to me a lot because it's a very "well, nothing is wrong with me for not feeling anything, it's the world that's failed to produce a suitable person" perspective.

But having that kind of confident perspective of your own rightness in the world is really not often portrayed in media, or even in fandom, which even ten years ago was still in the throes of standardizing "Oh, no! Me, gay? These feelings are so wrong!" style m/m content and is honestly not that far off from essentially that for aro/ace characters.

Anyway, all of that is to say that there's not yet much out there that doesn't frame allo/amatonormative values as the default that "even aro/ace people can (and should want to) achieve," and that it's really fun to write a fic that is unequivocally from the perspective of a character who is aroace and doesn't see it as even remotely a fault in himself. Does he have moments where he's a little confused and trying to process how things fit for him? Absolutely. But he just doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who thinks he owes romance to Vox of all people, hahaha. I've written him trying to conform to allo/amatonormativity more with Mimzy, because I think the social standards of their time could push him into it, but Vox? Absolutely not, he does not respect Vox enough for it to even enter his mind.

And then, on the other hand, writing it from an aroace perspective centers the way that romantic and sexual interest can feel like a betrayal of a good thing. With a character like Alastor, it frames romantic and sexual attraction the same alien way that we usually see aromanticism and asexuality framed as.

In the end, this is just one of a plethora of different experiences that aro/ace people can have, but it's one that I really wanted to see represented more, so I'm very happy to write it. I'm glad that you're enjoying it!

Quincey being the rejected one who does admit he feels "darkness" from the rejection but being the one who calls for "Art" (showing how close they are) and also saying they need to drag "Jack" along... signing with "always" being his... And Arthur replying "count me in any time". Their friendship has strong foundations from the start!

Quincey is fabulous here.

First, he makes his proposal tailored to his dynamic with Lucy (the initial "hitch up alongside of me"). When he sees she isn't taking him seriously, he clarifies himself. But he's aware of her feelings and recognizes that he's upsetting her because she can't reciprocate. So he stops himself, and gives her an out without making her bring it up first. As a bonus, this also confirms to him that his friend's feelings for her are returned. He takes the news excellently: he's open about his sadness but also very clear that he is not upset with her at all. In fact, he's happy to be her friend no matter what.

Then, he does the same thing with the other two men. He doesn't hide the fact that he's sad. That's only to be expected; of course he is sad that the woman he wants to marry doesn't feel the same. But his feelings being returned isn't the most important thing to him. His top priority is the various people he loves being happy. So he tells Lucy he supports her, he tells Arthur he's happy for him.

He invokes their good times together in the past to Arthur and tells him, 'this will be just like that.' He calls him by a nickname (and Jack too), emphasizes the "always" of their connection. He's making it super clear that even though he's sad now, nothing about their relationship is going to be ruined by this.

And Arthur returns in kind! His own "every time" to match Quincey's "always" - the "count me in" a clear agreement that he wants this friendship very much. He even signs his telegram using the same nickname! As the one who was accepted, I doubt he would have felt comfortable making the first move to reach out right away, so Quincey stepping in to do so was really really awesome.

They are such good friends, and are intentional about maintaining that friendship too.
