Lineages of spirits: ropes from men and spirits.

... Ignominy shall be their portion wheresoever they are found save (where they grasp) a rope from Allah(Spirits) and a rope from men.  Quran 3:112

The meaning of this verse was specifically for the Israelites under the Islamic rulership but I'd like to expand the meaning and give a more esoteric view on it, we as the Israelites in this verse as a practitioner and someone learning magic, witchcraft and so on.

Spirits and humans aren't infallibles and that's something we have to keep in mind when we work with all of them. There are always jump of faith, jump of faith that the person talking with you isn't trying to exploit you for money or the jump of faith that the spirit you're talking to have your interest in mind as you have their interest in mind. It's nice to look at it as two polarity but that's a false dichotomy and there are MANY influence into this sphere. Some people get too bent on the psychicism of "oh I can do it myself" or "Oh I don't need a teacher I will figure it out myself", the self-initiation, and so on. I mean I am kinda self-initiated but not in every part of my practice and that's the important thing is that we can't rely on the astral for it all, and you can't just take the human words for it all. The other side of it is someone human, of flesh and bones who can talk to us, and speak to us as human and not as some pompous persona on the internet but someone who speaks with us as a normal person. A teacher, lineage, mentor, passing person, or a friends on the path are also important because they ground us, give us an avenue to talk, and we have this back and forth conversation going on. What is worse that we can also get stuck in our bubble, echo-chamber, in our based and cringe literature or this and that. We can get so stuck on our teacher that we forget their flaws, or get so stuck about our school that we don't think that our practice can improve outside of it. You can see where I am going with in this case, we can't rely TOTALLY on spirit interaction because our whole vocabulary will become so distorted by our own pre-spiritual culture that the word we use to describe our own experience won't be understandable for other people. We can't get too attached to our lineage because we might lose the helpful instructions and guidance we get out of it, in the same sense the system become the "The System" that Valentine Tomberg had a very apt way to describe it:

Am I against learning from teachers? no, Am I against learning from Spirits? no, but there is some subtleness in the whole situation that's lost. In reality we always need guidance even in lack thereof finding someone to teach us as a teacher always, we can see guidance. It's not wrong to be misguided but what's wrong is charging ahead like it's nothing. "No, this person doesn't know what they're talking about, I will do it my own way" which is valid but then you have to realize that we are all cycling and going back throughout the year and seasons aiming to "grow" and transform rather than dying and "perishing". To cap all of this off, learn, listen, contemplate, widen your horizon and don't keep yourself locked in either boxes, there's more to the world.

Newbie Witch Things: Rituals

So, I've done my first proper witchcraft ritual! Nothing fancy, just a ritual bath to cleanse myself of negative energy and calm my mind. Used a bathbomb, and a homemade mix of cinnamon, rosemary, and some sea salt for extra cleansing power.

It was surprisingly really nice! Made a real treat of it, used a facial mask and put on music while I did it. And after, I felt refreshed and calm. Definitely needed the self love. However, next time I'm gonna use a couple of whole cinnamon sticks, and fresh rosemary sprigs instead of dried. It uh... it was kind of a pain to clean up. Whoops. Still! Practice makes perfect, and I honestly feel like it went well!

Hanging rosemary above the doorstep, and/or above doors of the house for protection.

Sprinkling a line of dried red pepper on a windowsill, to counter a curse.

Placing a mix of dried & ground eggshells and black pepper in every corner of a room to keep out unwanted spirits.

Placing a decoration representing a witch in the kitchen, to keep away illness and to favor health.

Crafting an effigie (no matter how crude!) and make it into the guardian of your home by charging it with your intent of protection and placing it near the front door.

Ophiel's Mercury Retrograde Mitigation Ritual

Some people might think Mercury retrograde is unavoidable while other thinks it is insignificant. Everyone have their own opinion about Mercury retrograde. I don't know how people approach it or what they do with it but here's my two cents. Try and see what work with you. I personally find miscommunication and misinterpretation is rampant during this time, electrical and electronic stuff tend to go haywire..I don't like that in my IT-related job. All of this is anecdotal but maybe you feel it differently. This spell works with Olympic spirit Ophiel of Mercury, I asked for permission to share the spell and got general approval. The instruction specifically is to draw a triangle, within it the Seal of Ophiel on a mirror, followed by lighting a candle or shinning a desk lamp at it. How does it work? I don't know! but it does! I did as the instruction but personally added a few parts by myself, including incense mix of sweet smelling herbs, an alcoholic offering, alongside the Orphic Hymn to Hermes and Hermes Chthonios, concluded by a prayer to mitigate the effect of mercury retrograde from my life and my loved ones. I did it on 19th of April 2023 just before the mercury retrograde on April 21 until May 14. Do I know how it would be without doing this ritual? I don't know really, for me it is better be safe than sorry! From my own experience I found out that when I don't do anything to mitigate the mercury retrograde's effect, I find out miscommunication between me and my loved ones, colleague at work, and so on.

New Moon The new moon marks the beginning of the lunar cycle, positioned between the Earth and the Sun, appearing completely dark. It symbolizes rebirth and new beginnings and makes for a perfect time for personal growth and reflection. This phase is ideal for magical practices focused on personal transformation, intention-setting, releasing, healing, and anything to do with something new. Waxing Crescent Moon The waxing moon is associated with the growth and amplification of energy. It corresponds to the strengthening of intentions set during the New Moon, as desires begin to gather momentum. This time of the moon is also good for setting intentions, as well as harnessing the energy of growth, abundance, and positive change. First Quarter Moon Appears approximately 7 days after the new moon. During this phase, the moon is half-illuminated and marks a period characterized by facing obstacles, decision-making, and creating forward momentum. It's a good time for taking action on your intentions and moving forward with your plans, as well as building courage and drawing things in. Waxing Gibbous Moon During this phase, the moon's luminance gradually increases and marks a time for attraction and drawing things in, but more often for inner strength and motivation. It's a good time to work on refining your goals and strengthen your focus in various aspects of your life apart from the spiritual. Full Moon The full moon is regarded as a time of heightened energy and magic. It occurs about 15 days after the New Moon when it's centered between the Earth and the Sun. Due to its heightened power during this phase, it's a good time for practicing any spell you have in mind, such as romantic rituals, abundance and prosperity spells, divination, protection and banishing, healing, etc. Waning Gibbous Moon The waning gibbous occurs after the full moon, and during this time, the moon's illumination gradually decreases. This phase is good for releasing negative energies and anything that no longer serves you as well as cleansing, divination, reflection, and breaking bad habits. Third Quarter Moon The third quarter moon appears in the lunar cycle between the full moon and the new moon. During this phase, the moon is illuminated to roughly half its capacity, presenting as a distinct half-moon shape. This moon's energy is associated with letting go of the past and focusing on reflection and renewal. It's a good time for banishing, protection and warding, and inner exploration including shadow work. It's also a good time to reconnect with spirit. Waning Crescent Moon This phase represents the final stages of release and introspection. It calls for the preparation of new beginnings and is a good time for intuitive work and shedding old skin before transitioning into the dark moon. The Dark Moon The dark moon occurs when the moon is completely concealed from sight for a few days before the first slight glimpse of the waxing phase and is not actually associated with the new moon. This is a good time to do banishings, hexes, cleansings, bindings, and any magical workings that are considered to be on the negative aspects.
