At first it's a sneer of what is this?

And then he hears it's from you.

Suddenly he doesn't care about the quality, he doesn't care if it's nonsense.

He cares that you made it, and you are gifting it to him.

It sits where he can see it every day.

Wilford

Instantly, it's adoration.

He loves it. Instantly, deeply in love.

Hell, he shows it off every chance he gets.

Dark

It seems like he doesn't like it. Seems like it being the key word.

And yet, later on, you see it on his desk where he can see it all the time.

When questioned on it, he just laughs in that jarring way of his, and holds it in his hand almost caringly and carelessly at the same time.

Night

Oh, how cute, you gave him an offering!

He treats it a little dismissively, but when you can't see it?

He turns it in his hands, staring lovingly at it.

It may be an offering, but it's also a gift and his first in many years.

Host

Anonymous or not, The Host knows.

He loves the textile nature of it, how he can feel the tiny differences within it, while others would be too nervous to handle it.

He keeps it within reach, turning it in his hands over and over.

As he narrates the world around him, it keeps his hands busy.

so the last 7 star raid event was Blaziken and the next one's gonna be Empoleon.

Imagine the 7 star raid after that's a grass type from neither Hoenn or Sinnoh and when the next game's announced on Pokemon day we find out that those three'll be the starters.

Is there a pattern for when the blissey raids come back?? I miss them. very good source of candy and my first raid build was exclusively for blissey raids. then they ended.

my new raid mons are annihilape and iron hands. Need to figure out other good mons for raids tho bc the 6 star tera raids that feature birds are a problem.

also wasted bottle caps and an ability capsule to make a second annihilape because 6 star breloom likes to use spore and sleep is bull crap.

So new Pokemon news just dropped and my first thought is to think about how this affects Pokespe (as it always is lol). Namely the 3 confirmed story pathways:

-Path to Championship Rank (fighting the 8 gyms and then passing the “Champion Assessment”--the equivalent to the E4 + Champion battles)

-Path of Legends/Searching for Herba Mystica (Hunting for herbs by fighting Titan Pokemon along the way. Pokemon has realized people like BIG mons. Sounds like this path is how you can get legends & mysticals based on the title)

-Beating up the evil team, which is now the school bullies an underaged biker gang. (Team Star is close enough to Team Skull and Team Yell that there’s bound to be a true villain, that will likely be accessed in this path.)

So, there’s def going to be a dexholder specializing in cooking right? The closest we have is Dia--who just likes eating--and Moon who makes medicine. The evil team path doesn’t imply a specialty in the same way, nor the gym path.

What I am most interested, however, in is the official art for each of these routes.

This is kinda long so TLDR: using the official art, I predict the starters and story paths will be distributed as the following in Pokespe: Scarlet (male dexholder) with Sprigatito and the Path of Legends, Violet (female dexholder) with Quaxly and beating up the evil team, Nemona (rival) with Fuecoco and the gym challenge. But this is also fuelled by a fair chunk of COPIUM.

For starters, it’s interesting the male player is the Violet uniform and female player is the Scarlet uniform considering the male player usually corresponds to the first version in the title, and the female the second. EDIT: Their confirmed canon names don’t seem to favour one version over the other (Juliana and Florian). And funnily enough, the trailer that reveals them has Juliana represented as Scarlet and Florian represented as Violet as well.

But what I noticed is that each official art has a starter assigned to it. You could argue that. The. Paths. Have. “Canon”. Starters.

And...they make sense? Sprigatito is a grass type and in the path where you hunt for herbs (plants) and fights a rock type. Quaxly’s (the water type) hair is often chalked up to sailor hat, but it also resembles a pompadour. In Japanese pop culture, that’s the stereotypical hairstyle for gang members/biker gangs/yakuza. Quaxly is in the path where you fight a biker gang. A biker gang who’s leader uses fire type pokemon. Fuecoco is a little less clear, though it may be worth noting the 2 gym leaders currently revealed are weak to fire (ice and grass).

People have theorized that with 3 different story paths, a good approach for the Spe adaptation would be for spe!Nemona to follow the gym leader path and spe!Scarlet and spe!Violet take one path each. Pokespe also follows a (fairly) consistent pattern in assigning starters to each character (this pattern was only broken recently in SWSH with the male dexholder having Grookey instead of Sobble), having shifted between:

male - grass, rival - fire, female - water

male - fire, rival - water, female - grass

male - water, rival - grass, female - fire

Following this assumption, can we guess what path and what starter each of the three will have? The standard distribution this chapter would be:

male - grass, rival - fire, female - water

The rival (spe!Nemona) has fire, the same in the gym leader path.

So...that means spe!Scarlet would have grass and go herb hunting and spe!Violet would have water and kick the evil team’s ass? I really hope.

This was always going to be a bit awkward for SV since the chapter before SWSH broke the starter pattern. Meaning the male dexholder would have the grass starter twice in a row. Also the evil team plotline is probably where the bulk of the “story” is. It’s where the main conflict/world ending plot would stem from, and Pokespe has historically favoured its male dexholders over female dexholders when it comes to focus and presence in the final fight with the villain. But remember how I pointed out the female player keeps getting depicted as Scarlet. Could? Could the female dexholder take centre stage this arc? GF seems all for it? They might throw us for a loop and make the female Scarlet and male Violet but I’d take it 🙏

He got this way sometimes.

If it was the depths of summer, where the sun set far too late for his tastes, and he had fed a little too long off of you, he'd mope.

Well, no. Moping wasn't quite the right word.

More that he would pull in on himself, his eyes haunted with a past long behind him, and go oddly quiet. I'd take his time trying to avoid you, hidden away in the darkest parts of the house. He wouldn't take the time to slick his hair back in that particular way that made him look a little like an old Hollywood vampire but also like he came from absurd amounts of old money. He wouldn't take the time to personally cover up the spot where he last had a snack from you, so you could go out in public. (Really, he was a little more skilled at blending the makeup out than you were.)

And despite all the assurances that you were fine, that he didn't need to worry, that all that happened was that you got a little dizzy and you were fine after a solid meal...something else haunted his eyes when he'd look away.

And frankly, you were tired of seeing him blame himself for eating. 

You grabbed your favorite extra fuzzy blanket before marching off to whichever corner he had managed to hide in this time. His tousled hair gave you pause, before you wrapped the blanket around his shoulders. Your heart hurt as you watched him flinch at the motion before relaxing, looking up at you with eyes that seemed to almost see someone else in your place. Gently, you pushed the strands out of his face, settling on your knees before him.

"Sweetheart, look at me?"

He blinked, coming to the moment, before sighing. "Darling, you really don't have to do this. I hurt you--"

"Nope. Shush."

"Wha--"

"Shh. You didn't hurt me. We go over this every time." Your fingers slip to his cheek, holding his cool skin against your palm. "I like that you don't bite anyone but me. I like that you mutter things like how I taste better than anyone else ever has."

Despite the fact you know his undeath keeps him cool, either the touch of your palm or your words slowly heat his cheeks. For once, you have hypnotized the vampire with your words and gaze, not the other way around.

"Darling--"

"Shhh! I'm saying the sweet words now!" He laughed softly, falling silent with a small smile. "I could never be scared of you. Your hands are always gentle with me. You wake me up with the sweetest kisses." To prove your point, you start peppering his cheeks with small kisses, whispering the words to his skin. "I know you'll never hurt me. You could have the day we met, but you took care of me instead. You keep taking care of me. You make me smile and laugh. You may not be the best cook--"

"I can't taste any of it!"

"Hush! I know! But you still make me breakfast. You don't have to, but you do. You pamper me, buy me gifts, yes. But you love me so gently and so fiercely." These words you whisper against his lips. "And I love you for who you are, in all ways, my dear actor."

He all but melts against the kiss, sinking into his taste of home.

Video Game Artist Spotlight: James Turner (Redux)

James Turner is a British artist and graphic designer who worked with Game Freak on the Pokémon franchise. Born in Lincoln, England. He attended  University of Wolverhampton where he gained a first class honours degree in Electonic Media BA. Afterwards he did some work in animation for TV advertising before becoming a game developer at Blue 52 Ltd., a London based design studio. In 2002, Turner moved to Japan and joined Genius Sonority, a studio known for developing Pokémon spin-offs. While here he designed Shadow Lugia for Pokémon Coliseum: Gale of Darkness. Over the years he was gradually promoted to art director. In 2009, he transferred to Game Freak where he worked on the mainline Pokémon series for over a decade. Becoming the first non-Japanese artist to design for Pokémon. He designed Pokémon like Vanillite, Trevenant, Buzzwole, Sinistea, and many more. He also worked on the Disney animated series “Amphibia” as a concept artist. He left Game Freak in early 2022 and opened up a new studio named All Possible Futures.
