Also I need to say SOMETHING because I've been tormented by this for the past few days after having been made aware but yandere Pearl makes me so upset, imo it's such a disservice to her character!! That or other interpretations that just make her out to be evil. I understand the appeal of the trope and for AUs and stuff, ofc go wild!! But that is very much not what happened in DL canon and anyone who thinks that she's only interesting with the yandere trope attached is a fake fan!! Pearl was labelled crazy and of course she leaned into it, because what else does she do? Nobody wants her, everyone believes she's lost it, so she might as well!! At the very least it serves as some intimidation that Pearl CAN use to her advantage but did she ever want to? She's not crazy for Scott, not by any stretch of the imagination. She wanted some kind of approval, or acceptance. She didn't just want Scott to herself or whatever argument people try to make and she most certainly wasn't evil or cruel. Many times when people were getting up to mischief, Pearl didn't take large part if at all even if she was there. She often played along and, yeah, she played along, like most Lifers would, no? I can see how her behaviour could be observed as obsessive when she keeps trying to settle near Scott but, I don't even know how to articulate my thoughts other than to reinforce that that wasn't her obsessing over Scott. I suppose you could view Pearl as evil depending entirely on what you classify as evil in a death game where most everyone has to kill anyway, and where a lot of people commit arson and stuff (Joel killed some Jellies, loved to bully Jimmy, retaliated having the Relationship burnt down by burning every other establishment he could, is he also evil? What makes Pearl evil? Does she just get called that more because Joel is expected to be a menace by default?), but there is so much more nuance there than some form of "she flipped on a dime in session 1 and immediately became a crazy ex after a breakup". But you know what, that's what Scott wanted people to believe and if anyone in the fandom does then I have news for you
Also I'm not trying to say that playing a villain character is bad (Scott is such a villain though not at all a plainly visible one, and he's very compelling as a character) nor am I trying to make Pearl out to be some totally innocent sweetpea. Or maybe I am. #Pearl did literally nothing wrong to warrant this (but like, art of her being girlboss and stuff goes hard still, she OWNED the scene still when she embraced the label. She was mad cool, but it's not "being evil" that makes a character mad cool)
(PS don't take this too seriously, although I do heavily disagree with this interpretation personally, I'm not police and also I love all the Lifers including Scott dearly. Reminder that this is just about the characters they play and it's reasonable for viewers to believe his story foremost if they've only watched his POV and such, I think)

finished the terror show! and i gotta say — probably not a surprise but — i liked the book better. tbh i don't think the show was long enough. like the book was SO long and despite the slow moving pace it had SO much packed into it, and i think because the show was only 10 episodes it ended up having to smush a bunch of things together and skip out of others and that totally took away from it. don't get me wrong, it's a decent show! but i think it had the potential to be even better if they'd gotten to like, take the time to faithfully adapt the book.
also there was not enough tuunbaq!!!
#the monster scenes were some of the best in the book!!! and they SEVERLY underused that big dude in the show!!!#like removing him completely from the carnivale scene? Bad Choice!!#also i was absolutely not a fan of what they did with lady silence in the show#i feel like the changes they made to her character and the plotlines surrounding her character were HUGE changes that like.#fundamentally changed a significant chunk of the rest of the plot — to the shows detriment imo#ALSO for the love of god!!!!! bring back practical effects!!!!!!!#the creature would have looked SO much cooler if it was mostly practical effects and maybe a little cgi to help#what it ended up looking like was a WEIRD (neg) uncanny valley those-animals-with-human-faces-from-barbie-movies thing that LOOKED so fake#it was laughable really#it looked like a giant polar bear with a human face and it did NOT work#they had the chance to make that thing look TERRIFYING and they didnt and that is SO disappointing and SO upsetting!!!#OH also i feel like they made hickey WAAAAAY more pathetic in the show lmfao#like he was pathetic in the book too! but oh my god he was like a thousand times more wet rat pathetic in the show#and i think they couldve done better with his power trip like they couldve done MORE with it#(i will say tho. they picked an EXCELLENT actor for that role fhsjdid adam nagaitis has a LOVELY face to look at gjdkdk)#((and so does tobias menzies. somethin about that man in that hat was just 👌👌🥴😩))#N E WAYS#i liked the show but i could have liked it even more if it had been closer to the book#the terror#mack watches the terror

ICJ Ruling
Okay, let's get into this.
First of all, I get the frustration at the court not ordering a ceasefire. I was disappointed and frustrated at first too, since a ceasefire was the biggest and most important preliminary measure South Africa was requesting - and of course we just all want this horror to finally end for the people in Gaza. So I get the frustration and disappointment, I really do.
However, I do think this ruling is still a major win for South Africa, Palestine, and international law as a whole and here's why:
The court acknowledged that it has jurisdiction over this case and completely dismissed Israel's request to throw out the case as a whole. It will now determine at the merits stage (that will probably take years) whether Israel is actually commiting genocide.
The court acknowledged that Palestinians are a "distinct national or ethnic group and therefore deserving of protection under the genocide convention". Pull this out next time someone tells you "there's no such thing as Palestinians, they're all just Arabs".
The court acknowledged very unambiguously that "at least some" of Israel's actions being genocidal in nature is "plausible". South Africa has a case, officially. Israel is accused of genocide, in a way the ICJ deems "plausible", officially. This is huge. (And seriously, how freaking satisfying was it to hear all of those genocidal statements by Israeli politicians read out loud and used as justification for this rulling?)
The court might not have ordered a "ceasefire" in those words, but they did order Israel to "immediately end all genocidal acts" (which includes killing and injuring Palestinians) and submit proof that they actually did. How are they going to comply with this ruling without at least severly reducing or changing what they're doing in Gaza?
In fact, this wording might actually be more appropriate for a genocide (vs a war), as author and journalist Ali Abunimah notes on Twitter:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's completely right. Israel lost today, by overwhelming majority (I mean, 15 to 2? I heard people predict the rulings would be very close, like 9 judges vs 8, but instead we got 15 to 2 (and even 16 to 1 on the humanitarian aid). Holy shit.) The court disimissed almost everything Israel's side of lawyers said, while acknowledging that South Africa's accusations are "plausible".
And this is important especially because of Mr Abunimah's second tweet there^. Because the question is, where do we go from here?
This ruling means that Israel is officially /possibly/ commiting genocide and that should have huge international consequences. The rest of the world now HAS to take these accusations seriously and stop arming and supporting Israel - and if they won't do it on their own, we, the people, have to make them. This is THE moment to rise up all around the world, especially in the countries most supportive of Israel (the US, the UK, Germany): Protest, call your representatives and demand a ceasefire and an end of arms deliveries to Israel.
We now have a legal case to back our demands: If Israel is, according to the ICJ, "plausibly" commiting genocide, then all of our governments are, according to the ICJ, "plausibly" guiltly of aiding in genocide. And we need to hold that over their heads and demand better. We need to do that right now and in huge numbers. Most politicians only care about themselves and saving their skin. We have to make them realize that they could be accused of aiding in genocide.
(As a German, I'm thinking of Germany here in particular: After South Africa's hearing, our government dismissed their case as having "no basis" - how are they going to keep saying that now that the ICJ officially thinks otherwise? Over the last months, people here have been arrested at protests for calling what's happening in Gaza a genocide. How are the police supposed to legally keep doing that now that the ICJ has officially deemed this accusation "plausible"? I used to be scared to use the word "genocide" at protests or write it on my protest signs - not anymore, have fun trying to arrest me for that when the ICJ literally has my back on this one 🖕🏻.)
So yeah - don't be defeatist about this, don't let Israel's narrative that they "won" (they didn't) take over. This might not be everything we wanted, but it's still a good result. Don't let what the court didn't say ("ceasefire"), distract you from the very important things that they did say. Let this be your motivation to get loud and active, especially if you live in any country that supports Israel. Put pressure on your governments to not be complicit in genocide, you now officially have the highest international court on your side.

Sirius Black would be the most disappointed person to know that the alpha/omega dynamic is actually a myth concerning wolves, and by extension werewolves. He found a book in the library about it but didn't notice that it's a fictional world.
(The book was definitely left there by Regulus if they are on good terms just to mess with Sirius)
Remus is the one who breaks the news and doesn't understand why Sirius is severly frustrated and disappointed like he was personally offended.

TW: Talking about Riddle's character and backstory, mentioning abuse
One thing that I hate is how quickly I was able to forgive Riddle. Boy certainly said some nasty things but together with his backstory and how cute he is after his overblot, it's so damn hard to stay mad at him.
Ngl I didn't get his insistence for rules at first and why he seems so adamant for punishment when broken. But the way he treats others is exactly the way he was treated. He probably had rules on when to get up, how to get up, what to wear and how quickly he shall be dressed and what he is allowed to play and for how long (the only Form of entertainment and play he had were crosswords) since his mother believed rules bring out a successful person (do this and you shall be rewarded) And when he was punished it probably was emotionally severe. Just look back at how offended and DISTRESSED his mother sounded and dismissed him for playing with Trey and Chenya. Telling him to be quiet, that she cannot TRUST HIM to be alone. This straight up hurts for a child to hear for your family who rewards you usually and is closest to you and who you look up to most likely, just being so severly cruel in the way they speak to you for doing something against the rules.
Riddle follows it all since he doesn't know a life without rules hence why he clings so much on them. He doesn't know how to function without rules since they "ruled" his life AT LEAST since he was eight. So he can never with a good conscious just disobey or do anything less perfect because 1.) How do you do something good and right without rules telling you want the golden standard is and 2.) Breaking the rules is what caused him to be seperated from Trey and Chenya, from the one thing he loved the most. Riddle never liked the rules, never liked following them but did it because of his mother - who by the way I think is not a liar or manipulator but imo GENUINELY believes in her way of raising Riddle being correct and right. She genuinely sounded distraught when he broke a rule, which in turn means that she was not being "good enough" to keep him from disobeying. His mother who he looks up to or at least respects greatly (he always refers to her as "Okaa-sama" which is the highest form of respect) was so disappointed in him, it must have left him kinda scared of ever breaking a rule again. What kind of child are you to bring your mother to such lengths that she would scream at a family you do not know for five hours?
So he follows rules because imo 1.) He is too used to them no matter how nonsensical they seem and 2.) HE believes following a rule perfectly = You WILL be rewarded (either by his mother or good grades) and 3.) If you do not follow a rule, it either means something bad will happen to you (which he tries to protect his drommates from by collaring them and always saying "I don't like to do this to you" as in "I do not like the rules either.") Or it kind of proved that his upbringing was a bunch of nonsense and will not bring him success and was instead abuse (the students he's trying to discipline and protect call him a "tyrant" even though he desperately wants friends).
I could talk forever about him but Tldr Even though the whole "I am correct" and Queen of Heart's rule thing seems pretty ridiculous and "anime-villain" like, Riddle is pretty well written when you connect real life feelings, trauma and abuse to it.

141 when they're angry and how they cry
Im feeling a little bit angsty tonight 😈
Warnings: self inflicted pain, ptsd, truama responce, crying, anger
Price
It takes alot to get him pissed the fuck off but when he does he blows the fuck up like full blown disappointed dad he will make you cry. This usually only happens if he had a rookie or someone close to him nearly gets killed or a mission goes SOUTH
Again it takes alot to get him pissed if he realizes he getting to that level of anger he'll excuse himself take some breaths smoke like 3 cigars to get his composure together and then he'll address the problem
He's usually just passive aggressive and says some really petty shit
Now he's a silent crier with the occasional sniffer. He's stroke his beard and rub his face with a groan. He hide his face and just silently sit there until he gets his composure. He aslo does breathing exercises to calm him down
Soap
When he's pissed of he'll get really quiet and shit himself off. He does the "im fine" and if you keep prodding at him he'll blow up in a yelling fit.
Hes a angry crier like full blow screaming crying punching things. Hes a whole hurricane when he's MAD
Now he will never lay a finger on anyone he loves if your in the middle of an argument and he starts forming tears he'll storm off and find something to punch. He keeps a punching bag around so that he doesn't have to hurt himself on anything. he wont punch the walls because he'd be the one fixing it.
He one time got so pissed he dissapeard and ghost found him curled up by a tree that had obviously taken a beating. his knuckles will be bleeding and bruised. He'll be a sobbing mess hyperventilating, hiccuping, coughing ghost would have to calm him down and try to get him leveled
Hes the screamer type crier he'll be holding something just wailing. If you ask him whats wrong he will just pull you in a hug and just let it loose.
Ghost
(Alright so in the comics he was in a abusive household where his dad would beat his mom and he would terrorize him with new foreign animals and he witnessed his dad murder a woman at a concert and he just told him to laugh it off. He was captured and tortured to near death being buried with his comrad so he has MAJOR PTSD from it so this kind of falls into the senario)
He tries HARD to not loose his composure in fear that he will be like his dad and loose his shit
Hes goes quiet and shuts himself off. Like price he'll excuse himself and get his composure together. He raises his voice and will warn you that you're pissing him off and to stop immediately. If you don't stop he'll tell you "that's enough!" And storm off
His whole aura will change and you can feel the anger radiate off of him. He's the type to go "its fine don't worry about it" if you ask before storming off to somewhere quiet
so theres this trauma response where if someone you know where to get hurt or something just makes you snap you start laughing i feel like ghost has that especially in the comics he has a ptsd attack and just starts laughing
When he has an attack he'l start with a chuckle and then it just mores into a sick laugh and itll just turn into him full blown sobbing and laughing at the same time
He's also a silent crier so if he's severly overstimulated he'l lie down and his eyes will start becoming waterfalls. No sniffles he just stares while his eyes soak the floor
Gaz
He RANTS when he's pissed the fuck off. He will call you out in your bullshit and roast the fuck outta you. he does the hand clap, waves his hands in the air everything. He's a bery level headed person but if you say something that pushes that button right be ready for a blow up
He doesnt get violent whats so ever unless the person provokes it. His dad (price lol) taught him to not start a fight but finish it and he damn well finish one.
He super sarcastic when he's irritated and is passive aggressive
"And thats why your mamas dead.... dead as hell"
When he cries he has tears streaming down his face and he does the quiet sobs that will turn into hiccups and him rubbing his eyes constantly
He doesnt cry that much (except for weddings hes a sucker for them) and he usually doesnt show anyone that he's crying (except for the weddings 😂)

(QUICK DISCLAIMER, I LOVE PRIME, I JUST THINK THERE'S A FEW THINGS THAT COULD'VE/SHOULD'VE BEEN DONE DIFFERENTLY.)
The thing I really want to talk about is Prime's portrayal of the Green Hill versions of Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Rouge, (and Big I guess). They are barely in the show at all, and I think it really hurts the story, specifically Sonic's motivations. We know he has these friends, but we don't really get to see WHY they mean so much to him. In fact, most of his interactions with them are them being disappointed in him. This is . . . fine . . . for those of us who are familiar with the rest of the series and who these characters are. But there's a very high likelihood that Prime is some peoples' INTRODUCTION to the series as a whole. When that's the case, you need to understand why these people matter to Sonic. You need to see how he and Tails are brothers, how he and Amy are awkwardly trying to figure out how they feel about each other, how Sonic is a competitive rival with Knuckles. And we need to establish . . . ANY kind of relationship with Rouge. Don't get me wrong, I love her, she's one of my favorites, but why is she here? She's barely interacted with Sonic since SA2.
If it was up to me, I would've given Sonic a LOT more flashbacks to Green Hill so we can establish who his friends are and WHY they matter. It's one of the biggest rules of being a writer. You need to give your audience a reason to care. If you don't, why are they going keep going with your story? So yeah, I'd make it a lot more clear why we should care about everyone. The way Prime actually did it makes even the SEVERLY UNDERDEVELOPED variants of everyone more developed than the main versions. We know more about BATTEN than Rouge in this show.
But that's just the opinions of a girl who cares way too much about the art of storytelling. :)

Larrey and his family
A while ago I came across a discussion about Dominique Larrey’s family life, in particular, about him treating his two children (daughter Isaure and son Hippolyte) rather badly. I hope people are still interested in the topic, as now we’ve rediscovered the book this bit of information came from. It’s a 1902 biography by one Paul Triaire, "Dominique Larrey et les campagnes de la Révolution et de l’Empire (1768-1842)". Just as a disclaimer, while I will cite some not so nice passages about Larrey, the overall tone of the book is very positive, if not outright adoring. As a matter of fact, I’ve come across a book review from 1902 that vehemently reproached the author of being too uncritical of his hero and of not – as we would say today – fact-checking his sources (often letters and texts by Larrey himself that the author took at face-value).
All credit for this goes to @northernmariette who found the book on Gallica first, I’m merely the translator (or rather, DeepL is, and I’m typing it down).
I had the impression on browsing the pages that Larrey was, as far as family matters are concerned, an extremely conservative man, and had probably always been. For example, he seems to have been very disappointed in Cairo on learning (from the one and only letter from his wife that made it to Egypt) that Madame Larrey had given birth to "only" a girl:
[…] This single letter filled him with a joy that was not unmixed. It informed him of the birth of a girl, instead of the boy, already named Hippolyte in advance, that he had been expecting. […] We shall see later that this daughter, whose arrival Larrey greeted so coldly, was, on the contrary - as is often the case - the delight and consolation of his life.
Unfortunately, we cannot ask daughter Isaure if this was also true the other way around.
And just to show the other extreme: When in 1809 he learned in Spain that Madame Larrey finally had given birth to the long awaited little Hippolyte, Larrey claims to have been so beside himself with joy that he ran from door to door and even tried to disturb King Joseph during his siesta in order to share the news.
At this time, in 1809, young Isaure (who must have been around ten) had already become her father’s preferred correspondent - apparently regardless of whether the topic was suitable or comprehensible for a child. Among other things, Larrey instructed his daughter about how to treat her mother during and after the pregnancy.
[...] One has to look at the letters he wrote, not to his wife, whom he did not want to worry, but to his nine-year-old daughter Isaure, who became his confidante. It was an extraordinary peculiarity of Larrey's character that he had such a way with this child. He obviously lacked the faculty of discerning the ages, and his recommendations were of the kind that are usually addressed only to a grown-up. By the same mental transposition, he was later to send his son, a young schoolboy of six or seven, his "Mémoires et campagnes" (Memoirs and Campaigns), instead of the short stories we are accustomed to having children read. However, these strange methods of early education did not prevent his daughter from becoming an accomplished woman, and his son from one day becoming one of the most distinguished men of his time. He sent Isaure detailed instructions on her mother's hygiene, bed rest, diet and finally the baptism. The child, who was to be a boy - Larrey did not even intend to consider the possibility to the contrary - was to be called Félix-Hippolyte. [...]
This sounds all a little weird, but surely not extraordinary for the time. Apparently, the real problems only started after the Empire, with Larrey now staying home, with his family. Over whom he dominated rather severely. Severly enough, in fact, for the author to use the word "tyrannique", tyrannical.
It seems at first sight, from what we know of his character and the tenderness he showed towards his wife and children, that he must have been completely happy to live among them. He had always hated the extended separations that had kept him away from his family for so long and so often, and he had long wished for peace. In all his letters to his wife from the farthest corners of the world, from the banks of the Sprée, the Danube, the Elbe and the Niemen, he expressed his ardent desire to be reunited with her and to live peacefully as a family. [...] However, it does not appear that he enjoyed this longed-for reunion with his wife and children, as one might think. [...] He had difficulty adjusting to the demands of family life, which was so new to him, where a woman's wishes and desires had to be taken into account, as well as the many delicate conditions of raising children, and, without realising it, he brought the authoritarian aspects of camp life into his home. With his wife, the sweet and charming Laville, whom he had adored and whom he still loved, - but in his own way, - with Isaure, a charming child who had been his correspondent during the last campaign and who had become a beautiful and charming young girl, he was imperious and domineering. He was no less tyrannical and authoritarian with his son, this Hippolyte whose birth he had so ardently wished for, who was to become the joy and pride of his old age and who bore so proudly the heavy heritage of his father's name. [...] His daughter Isaure suffered the most from this despotic yoke. In 1815, she was at the peak of her youth and beauty. [...] Many suitors sought her hand in marriage. This went on for a long time, because Larrey, jealous of his daughter's affection, could find no suitor worthy of her and eliminated them all one by one.
Followed by a longer story about one of her suitors, Antoine Clot aka Clot-Bey, a French physician who would become important for the modernisation and the development of a medical service in Egypt during to 1830s and 1840s. Larrey seems to have originally estimated this man greatly, but immediately dismissed him on realizing that he and Isaure had taken a liking to each other. This story must have caused a bit of a stir as it is also eluded to in an eloge after Hippolyte Larrey’s death.
If Larrey's hand was too forceful for his daughter, it fell no less heavily on his son. But this was a man's education, and its rigour had fewer drawbacks. It is even probable that Hippolyte Larrey owed to this inflexible and authoritarian education, but imbued with the lofty ideas which had governed the entire life of the surgeon of the Grande Armée, a large part of his solid qualities and, in particular, the uprightness and elevation of character, the delicacy of conscience, the spirit of justice, the unalterable feelings of honour and loyalty, which like his father he possessed to a high degree and which made him one of the most remarkable men of his generation. However, this restrictive upbringing had its drawbacks, and it must have robbed him of some of his individuality. It is remarkable that it was by abusing the prodigious originality of his temperament that Larrey attenuated that of his son. This was perhaps not a misfortune; the times were indeed very different, and the dominating energy, the absolute will, the tenacity and the almost superhuman fortitude that Larrey had first shown during the wars of the Revolution and the Empire, could not have been used under the peaceful regimes of the Restoration and the July government.
This lack of individuality in Hippolyte Larrey also is hinted at in the same eloge.
So, that’s the story. I am still of the opinion that of all those men whose entire lives were spent in war, not a single one returned without harm.
But hey, Larrey for once seems to have been the opposite of a henpecked husband, quite contrary to all the marshals 😁.

This account is on hiatus...
For my mental health, I'm taking a step back from fandom beginning Feburary 20, 2023. I've been considering this for a while, and while I don't expect this to be permanent, I do expect it to last for a while.
Details below the cut, if you're interested.
It's been coming for a while, and I've really been putting it off, but I do feel like I need to take step back. I've been putting a lot of pressure on myself. I want to get back to writing because it's fun, not because I have an arbitrary deadline or because I'm worried about disappointing someone.
What this means:
I'm going to be staying off of Tumblr and away from posting on AO3. If you know me on Discord, you may see me there, but I intend to severly restrict my usage there as well.
I do have a few fics in fests and other prescheduled things, so there will be a few things post to AO3 from me. I also plan to spend the next day or so uploading a few things that are already ready, but then I'll be logging out and uninstalling apps.
I also will still have my email connected, so I'll see asks, replies, comments and kudos from my email, but I'm not planning to respond to anything until I get back. This also means
All of my fics are on hiatus.
I know that will be disappointing to some of you who are patiently waiting for updates, but it's this kind of pressure (largely internal) that has pushed me to take this break. I'm not promissing that I'll come back with lots of updates (though part of me wishes I could) because I need to have the freedom to create... or not.
Thank you all for following me and showing love to my works.
I really, truly, appreciate all of your kind words and support. I know I could be better at communicating it, but it means so much to hear from all of you.
