once more defending my love, book!elphaba thropp
reading reviews of wicked and im seeing people say they hate book elphaba because she's "unlikable"
so many people love the feel good vibes of the musical while not seeing that they sound exactly like people who would have shunned elphaba at shiz for not being pleasant enough and making them feel unsettled instead of putting them at ease
I'm saying this because I find that people are often much more charitable towards fictional characters than real people -- and people IRL who have Elphaba's severe, unwavering personality and unwillingness to conform often face the same social stigma she did, no green skin required. Like yes, Elphaba was an outcast because she had green skin, but I don't think the green skin is the point of the novel. I think her being green is a visual manifestation of being so at odds with what you're "supposed" to be that people demonize you for it. Book Elphaba is queer and hinted to be intersex. I read her as neurodivergent, so this all tracks to me, and considering that other forms of oppression and stigmatization are very important themes in the narrative, I think the green-ness simply emphasizes to the other ways in which she's marginalized.
Trying not to go into the Wicked rant that I tend to do every few months but I feel it coming on
I'm all here for critiques of the novel, because it certainly has flaws, and I understand why people don't enjoy it -- but there is something funny to me about people wanting a narrative about looking beneath the surface to find true value but hating the version of that story that requires the most compassion to appreciate. Like the musical is fun and well-made but it does not require any effort to like musical Elphaba because she's conventionally attractive woman who's feisty and kinda quirky...oh and she's also green. And her being green matters more to the other characters than to us. We don't care that she's green (because we already know it would be wrong to judge her based on that) and the musical gives us no other reasons to judge her, so we don't really have to process any complex emotions.
(Sidenote, I think if book Elphaba were still green but more conventionally attractive, bubbly, and less political, she would not have been as much of an outcast -- at least not in her later adolescence. Her green-ness could have been a novelty or spectacle that she used to her advantage if she made up for it by being more palatable in other ways. Of course, she would never do this, because that's simply not Elphaba. She could never twist herself to be anything other than who she is, even out of social self-preservation.)
Book Elphaba is so much more prickly and unpleasant --and hell, so was I at the height of my social ineptitude and feeling like there was something so so wrong with me (because why for the love of God couldn't I just fit in and act the way the cool kids my age did).
Her unpleasantness and seriousness and insistence on talking about important things that make people uncomfortable are her green-ness imo. Those are the things that affect how we as the reader experience her, and we must experience her strangeness as well.
And while I understand that if the moral of the story is essentially "don't judge a book by its cover" then yes, you can tell a thematically sound story about a girl who is actually pretty cool but just happens to be green and talk about how she's ostracized simply because she looks different. That's a perfectly fine story -- but I think it can go much further -- because it's not only wrong to marginalize people who look different, it's also wrong to marginalize those who are internally different. Difference is persecuted whether its visual or behavioural.
Even if Elphaba weren't green, there are inherent aspects of who she is that prevent her from conforming to the ideal, both in her world and ours. And I think valuing her with all of those things in mind is a lot more rewarding than simply liking her despite the fact that she's green.
Anyway I love Elphaba Thropp and I don't think her being more palatable would have made the story better — it simply would have made it more popular, and I think on that at least, fans of both the book and musical should be able to agree is not an inherently better thing.
...
OK one last point, I saw someone saw they prefer the musical because it has more "girl power" meanwhile the book feels "obviously written by a man" and I just...dear god what a surface level take
Yes Gregory Maguire is a man (oh, the horror!), but he wrote the women in Wicked as people, without hand wringing about if they're likeable or pleasant enough. They are flawed and raw and not just there to make the audience feel warm and fuzzy. He writes about sexuality without making women feel like sexual objects -- I suspect because he also writes about the sexuality of his male characters (the women aren't just in the story to turn us on) and he himself is gay, so there may be less male-gaze going on than with a lot of men who write fantasy. Yes, characters are described in sexual ways, but this happens regardless of gender.

When I first got into JayDick, this blog was the first one I encountered and I really enjoyed the posts about Gotham Knights JayDick (and why I got the game and wow y'all weren't kidding XD) and then post about RHatO annual #1 really sealed the deal. But all that to say that as I've been slowly devouring the comics I noticed a trend? (And please forgive my rambling thoughts as I get them out of my head and into the void)
But I noticed that fandom likes to give Dick a lot of shit about his thing with red heads and I'm side eyeing Jason like he also doesn’t have his own collection of red heads... literally the same ones as Dick (except for Artemis)?
Kori? Roy? Babs? (All exs even Roy imo)
Like you have him and Kori kiss in new 52 RHatO plus him saying that Kori loves Dick as much as Jason hated him 👀 when we all know there is a fine line between love and hate 👀
And then Babs, I know there were a few moments in Batman Eternal where she was implying she wanted a relationship with Jason as a means to get him to stay? (I mostly skimmed through Eternal but that's how I understood those panels) and then (spoilers for) Batman Three Jokers (again which I flipped through) where they share a kiss (and sidenote: Jason was hot as hell in this 😳)
And idk if I'm making sense but I find it interesting that the writers give Jason almost all of Dick’s exs as potential romantic partners? Isn't there a trope out there where Person A is jealous of Person B so they date all of B's exs when in reality all along A wanted B?
I hope you see the vision I'm trying to explain. 😆 like at the this point please give us canon JayDick this is ridiculous.
Oh my god yes ahigudhxyv I see what you're saying!! Like, there's SO much accidental setup for canon jaydick, even in the comics. I can't really explain it super well?? But they have such a complicated and emotional history, and it feels like they actively TRY to have a relationship with each other. They fuck up sometimes, or occasionally need outside help [glances at Artemis in that RHATO v2 annual], but they seem to really want a relationship with each other, whatever that may be. There's sooo much commitment in their relationship!! And there's so much yearning, too...
And yes, yes, there's a very fine line between hate and love :) hate isn't the opposite of love, indifference is. Jason has never truly HATED Dick, I think. The idea of him? The golden boy who gets all of Bruce's love? Definitely. But actually hating Dick? Yeah I don't think so.
Idk they feel so entangled in each other in a way that's hard to explain. Their relationship is complex, weighed heavy by guilt and grief and tragedy that they're only recently starting to clean off. But there's sooo much devotion and commitment. Their relationship can't really be described as fully platonic (not yet at least... 👀), it's too complex for that, but it's not explicitly romantic either. And it's certainly not familial, lol, I never got those vibes from them except for in fanfiction-esque comics (like Nightwing v4 107 lol). Honestly, their relationship is way too complex to be boiled down to simple labels like that. Hence why I recently found out that 'alterous' is a good label for their relationship!
Just... they're so complicated and it sucks that people don't wanna explore that because of the preconceived notion that they're brothers, nothing more, nothing less. Sure, legally they are, but they don't... act like it? They didn't grow up together, they weren't very close before Jason died, and they only recently started getting properly close. Jason also has his crush thing going on (seriously, how else am I supposed to interpret RHATO v2 annual 1??).
People are soooo afraid of even touching the idea that their relationship MIGHT be more complex than a familial one. This absolutely isn't me like, bragging or being prideful or anything, but my analysis on this sort of thing is rarely wrong loll. They're complex, and people love it that way, and I think DC is slowly starting to understand just how much people love them as a duo (and a couple- seriously, it's one of the most popular DC pairings. I like to joke it's the wincest of DC). Honestly? I feel like jaydick becoming canon one day would be a natural progression of their relationship. Especially since they seem to be getting paired up as a duo more often. Readers love them, comic artists and writers like them too- i feel like jaydick actually happening one day wouldn't be extremely surprising. Or. Well actually it would be because DC loves to push dickbabs and wouldn't dare make some of their most popular characters bisexual lmaoo. But still, they're a popular duo!! It'd only be natural for them to end up together loll.
And, honestly, I genuinely feel like Gotham Knights was going that way in terms of canon jaydick?? People love to say they were "soooo siblings" or platonic but like. God they were as FAR from platonic or familial as you can GET 😭 if you act like that around your family, I'm VERY concerned for you lmaoo. I genuinely feel like the writers were intending for jaydick to happen in a DLC given how much setup there is. Either that, or it was an Arcane Jayvik situation where the creator(s) considered them friends/brothers but told no one. God, what i wouldn't give to talk to one of the writers about that. Seriously though, there's no way they ACCIDENTALLY wrote them flirting. And how the fandom didn't pick up on it, I have NO clue.
Anyways 😭 I am SO sorry for yapping, I can't keep my mouth shut about them even if my life depended on it. I'm happy my blog is the first one you found when you got into jaydick <33
OH WAIT the thing about redheads you mentioned?? Extremely funny on Dicks side of that because JASON was canonically a redhead at one point loll. 10 points to jaydick shippers, as per usual.
Okay, actually shutting up now, I've yapped enough

honestly?
I think Elwin is overrated.
he’s so unserious I wish he could act like an actual adult rather than some weirdo 10 year old
he literally put up posters of Keefe and Sophie in his healing center to embarrass them.
I hate him.
first of all, very curious as to why you came to my inbox about this . . . do i give elwin hater vibes? i'm not . . . but in the spirit of hearing people out . . .
honestly i don't really see how elwin can be overrated when he's not really rated in the first place. like people will be like "oh he's so pure, so kind, so sweet, so flawless" because. idk man it's kind of true. he's the only person in the entire series who hasn't done something problematic afaik . . . but other than that people don't really talk about him like ever. he's not very interesting as a character because of the fact that he's just kind of there to be nice and patch sophie up. he feels less like a character and more like a plot device to me idk
i mean yeah he's unserious but not chronically . . . he knows when to be serious and his "unseriousness" to me is just whimsy. like. he has stuffed animals and he wears pajamas like exclusively but who wouldn't if they could? do you see what i'm saying . . . like that's not anything like. wrong? to me? it just feels like something that brings him comfort and it doesn't hurt anyone so i mean . . . to me he does act like an adult (well aside from the fact that there's some weird juvenile dialogue that taints all of shannon's adult characters), like i don't think there's anything elwin-specific that i would say reminds me of ten-year-old behavior
okay i can see how you might see the pictures as a bit problematic because sophie didn't consent to it beforehand (keefe does actually express enthusiasm toward the idea before it happens to him, though, so we'll disregard him) . . . but honestly that's so unserious to me? i don't think his intention was necessarily to embarrass sophie, but rather to make fun of how much she's in the healing center . . . but yeah sophie does say she doesn't like it so that's certainly a thing. although i think elwin wanted it to be a surprise and that's why he didn't ask sophie first . . . i think if sophie told him not to, he'd take it down. i will say though that this doesn't really become a pattern of behavior with elwin . . . he does it once (well twice, but keefe was okay with it beforehand) so it seems strange to hate him for such a one-off thing where the intention wasn't even to humiliate sophie imo

@alisha-on-arcane
So on rewatching I've convinced myself that the flashback is very, very rose-tinted. That we're seeing Vander's heavily processed memory of their lives together (though the vanco love shack looks pretty cosy) minus the fights and the hardship and the dirt.
The main thing I got from the flashback is that Vander is secretly the world biggest Silco simp and to him, through his mind's eye Silco was just the cutest most stylish little twink, complete with fuzzy water colors.
Now there are parts that are certainly real (the shack and the letter). But Vander's memories. Eh..
The problem is that there's always the character level and the meta level.
1.) Who is the flashback for?
IMO the flashback, particularly the music sequence to me is complicated that to me it doesn't feel like it is primarily about Vander.
In the end, this show is not about Vander and it's not about Silco. It's about Jinx and Vi (+ a little bit of Cait). And to me that Memories sequence felt even though within the story it is triggered by Vander, structurally, within the episode, I think it's much more about showing us young!Vi and young!Powder being happy. Because the whole vibe of the arc to me is about Jinx getting better and almost getting a better life unless if it brutally ripped away from her again.
Vi and Jinx reuniting for the sake of Vander, getting their family hugs in plus the memories montage about how happy they once were is supposed to make us feel wistful about Vi and Jinx so we can then be crushed by the Isha ending and Jinx going back to having her hallucinations.
Like how the montage imo shifts from a Vander POV (Vander thinking of Silco, Vander thinking about boxing with Vi at various ages) to the point of view of the children.
Tumblr media
This is Felicia greeting her children, not Vander. This is Felicia giving Vi her glove, from Vi's POV, not Vanders.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is Vi smelling the food and turning around and seeing her mom cooking for Powder, this is Vi remembering her mother cutting her hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To me those moments just don't feel like moments where Vander would have been around (ie the moment where the POV camera moves to look into the soup the mirror images contain Felicia, Vi and Powder but no Vander, so another vote for Vander was not part of this moment).
I don't think that there's any in-universe reason to why the memories switch in perspective. Like Vi and Vander's minds are connected. Or being around Vander makes Vi think a lot about her own mom. So I think the sequence is just "vibes" based. It shifts from Vander's POV to Vi's POV simply because somebody (probably Christian Linke....) wanted to have those scenes in there, whether they make sense of not and structurally/dramatically this montage is there as a calm before the storm before Isha eats it.
(also note that the sequence starts on Vander, his memories, then switches to Vi's POV and then the sequence exits on Vi, Jinx and Isha, with no Vander in sight:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
, so yes, my read that it starts on a Vander flashback but it morphs into a Vi respectively Vi/Jinx centered one for artistic reasons)
2.) artist fuckups + fanwank or intentional varity or fuckup followed by intentional variety?
I have to find it but I recently came across another person complaining about the flashback and noting that in Silco's version of the The Drowning his hair is shorter and styled different and they also claimed that Amanda Overton said that the original flashback was a fuckup and Vander and Silco were not supposed to look that young.
So, here's my thinking. If Vander's POV is rose tinted glasses. Who says that Silco's version of events is the real one? Maybe the truth was somewhere in the middle?
And there is some basis for a "memory is relative" approach. Jinx has always had a warped perception of the world. But now we at least have Vi's flashes of Caitlyn. Or Viktor's version of Skye not having glasses and fewer freckles. Or Cait's warped view of the world or how she pictures Jinx right after her mom's death.
Now IF we take this line that ALL flashbacks are colored by the perception of the characters and we can't take any of them 100% per face value, that brings up a ton of interesting things to think about. (maybe Silco is the cutest twink in Vander's memories because that's Vander saw him, maybe Silco is much grimier and the world much darker because there's some self hate there, maybe Vander is scary and bearded on the bridge because that's how Vi sees him in this situation).
But even though this is a fun fanwank and you can get some mileage out of it, I always run into "okay, but how much are we just covering up production fuckups and the creators just being messy and not as careful.
To me the idea that Vander is still "lying" in his memories is a super interesting character idea to me. But the problem is that I have no faith that this will ever be anything but a theory. Because I don't think that with just 3 episodes left and so much shit left to cover we will get another dark version of those memories to reveal that there's a contradiction. Like it could easily fit in just maybe before the final Warwick transformation. But I just don't think it will happen.
But yes, as just a fun character theory, I can get into Vander being strapped down being tortured by Singed and just retreating deeper and deeper into happy memories of his cute boyfriend even if those memories aren't real, they need to be made even lighter and prettier because they have to balance out so much torture. Vander doesn't want to think about the dark things they did together because he's trying to preserve his sanity in the face of a ton of torture and chemicals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sure if you like they can both have been in love with Felicia, though I think the jackets make a much stronger zaundads case, and 'three close friends' is a thing),
At this point my read is still 100% Zaundads were an item and they were friends with Felicia and Connol and they care about them as fellow friends. I can maybe get into the "but Vi looks like Vander and Jinx has Silco's hair" (but let's remember, Silco could just have styled her hair after she started living with it rather than that being a physical property), but just on what is being said, the looks being exchanged, my read is that they are just concerned friends. (especially with my read that at least part of the Memories montage is Vi gazing onto Felicia and not Vander gazing onto Felicia)
But yes, I can see why the normies might read it differently.
I don't need Vander to have been in love with Felicia for him to freak out after her death. Right now my pitch is, Vander was really into project ankle biter and lived a bit vicariously through Felicia and Connol's family.
And if Silco maybe does something reckless that gets Felicia killed this is more deeply symbolic about how he just doesn't respect Project Anklebiter at all the way Vander wants him to. (with my personal presumption that they maybe were on rocky terms about Project Anklebiter before)
(that said, if all that Silco did was throw a molotov cocktail that is still weak sauce if they are really not going to add anything to that. Like I was at least counting on Silco I dunno, wanting to fuck up the air vents or something like that. Especially since in Vi's version of the Day of Ash Vander still seems moderately into it at the beginning rather Vander never wanted Day of Ash because he wanted to stop way before Vi was born and Silco kept provoking more and more fights. And if Vander didn't lead the charge on the Bridge how the fuck did he ever get any reputation as a revolutionary if all he did was found a moderately successful bar. It feels like there should be more to the story, I'm just doubtful it will ever come)
ETA: I should probably note that project ankle biter doesn't just have to be read in a mpreg "Vander wants to breed his boyfriend" kind of way as much as a joke about it. It can also be seen metaphorically about what status children should have within their community. Especially if you consider that Silco's arc ended up being all about valueing Jinx's life and freedom over Zaun and this arc just ended with Jinx becoming a symbol for resistance and almost instantly her pseudo daughter gets killed. [and of course there's Ekko as the middle ground, who has child aged people fighting, but not doing full on revolution, so maybe there is a middle ground between kids should be tools or soldiers or ignored and kids need to be kept protected and in the dark]

A/N: man i’m really going to miss this arc of the story
vibes have been unmatched so far (ba sing se era >> ursa era imo even if the underlying mystery of the ursa era was rlly fun to write)
Tumblr media
“Sokka!” you shouted, kicking the front door. You knew the Avatar’s house was under near-constant surveillance by the Dai Li, and the longer you waited outside, the more likely it was that you’d be caught. Yet for some reason, your last three attempts at knocking politely had proven fruitless, and even this more violent greeting went unanswered. Giving up and ramming your shoulder into the doorway, you flinched when it swung open eerily and without protest.
Why was the villa empty? It didn’t look like it had been abandoned in a methodical fashion; a set of clothes you assumed were Katara’s was tossed over a chair, and there were dishes in the sink. All of this spoke to a hasty exit, one that might not have been entirely willing and was certainly made without an advance warning.
From the corner, there was a chittering sound, and you all but leapt out of your skin before realizing it was a tiny, fluffy creature. Stooping down, you recognized it to be a winged lemur, staring at you with wide viridian eyes. You offered it your hand with a smile, but it only sniffed it delicately before skittering backwards, leaping around a corner and then poking its head back like it was hoping you’d follow.
“What is going on?” you muttered to yourself, deciding you might as well follow the shy animal. It made a cooing noise at you, nudging you with its small, wet nose as you reached the room it was waiting for you in. Once it had ascertained that you were safely with it, it leapt onto your shoulder, nipping your ear when you tried to leave.
You were about to chide it for the rude behavior when you heard the front door creak open. Biting your tongue, you pressed your back to the wall by the door, peering through the crack at the new visitors. Based on the winged lemur’s behavior and your own intuition, it wasn’t the Avatar or any of his friends, and your stomach dropped as you saw men wearing the familiar Dai Li uniform creeping into the villa.
“You really think the Avatar’s the one that kidnapped Princess Y/N?” one of them said.
“Who else could’ve killed Captain Chhay?” his partner said. “That man is a legend in the organization. Long Feng thinks that they kidnapped Princess Y/N so that they have some leverage to enter the palace.”
“Poor girl,” the first agent said with a chuckle. “She’s like a toy for the real political powers to play with.”
His partner scoffed. “Right? It’d be depressing if she actually cared, but she’s not exactly done anything to gain any kind of relevance in her kingdom.”
“Her and that brother of hers are making this far too easy.”
“Did you hear that the Lower Ring citizens rioted just from seeing her?”
“At this rate, a peasant uprising isn’t far off at all. The seeds for revolution have been sown, and as long as things continue in the way they have been, it won’t be long before the monarchy is done away with completely and Long Feng can finally, truly assume power.”
“Shh! What if they overhear you?”
“It’s fine. The Avatar and his friends are busy under Lake Laogai. This is only a cursory inspection. There’s no one around to hear us; when else can we discuss this type of thing?”
“I don’t know. You’re just stressing me out. How much longer do we have to stay here, anyways?”
“We have to check for Princess Y/N. Or, at least, pretend like we did.”
“Honestly, I’d say we’ve done our due diligence.”
The voices were growing closer, and you shoved your fist in your mouth to avoid making a sound, staring wide-eyed at the winged lemur, who did not even blink as it returned your panicked gaze with a steady one of its own.
“True. Who really cares if she lives or dies? It’s all the same to our plans.”
“If she dies, though, people might feel some sympathy for the royal family.”
“Nah, just think about it: as long as we can blame the Avatar and his friends for killing her, then we not only get rid of one of the royal family members, we also shake the public’s faith in the Avatar. It’s actually for the best if we don’t find her.”
“You’re right!”
They were right outside the room now. If they took another step and turned, they would see you. You shrank back even more, wishing you could melt into the shadows, meld with the wall, hide in some way that would ensure they never caught wind of you.
“Let’s just go, then.”
“Wait, what if she isn’t dead, though? If she escapes and comes back to the palace, it’ll make us look horrible.”
They took that step, but still they did not turn. You shivered, wanting to squeeze your eyes shut but knowing you could not be caught off guard in case they saw you.
“If she comes back, we can let Long Feng deal with it. She’s been a real pain in his neck, you know? If Captain Chhay were still around, he’d probably be sent after her by this point.”
One of the agents clicked his tongue. “Good old Chhay. I’d never have said it while he was still around, but he was like a polar bear dog. Who else would be that loyal to a person?”
“I don’t know. Rumor has it that Long Feng paid him twice the regular salary. I’d be loyal too, for that kind of money.”
They retreated from the room, and you let go of the breath you had been holding, patting the winged lemur on the head, though you were still careful to be silent.
“That so?”
“Maybe one of us will be promoted to take his place now that he’s gone.”
“Now you’re talking!”
The door to the villa slammed shut behind them, leaving you and the winged lemur alone. You buried your face in your hands, breathing in quick, short gasps, gritting your teeth as you tried to regain your composure.
It went deeper than you realized. This wasn’t just incompetency or confusion — the Dai Li were planning on utilizing the citizens of Ba Sing Se for their own means, using them to overthrow the current government and then instating Long Feng as, ostensibly, a dictator. It was only your own fortune — you were still unsure whether that fortune could be considered good or bad — that you had overheard their plot, but what now?
You were presumed to be dead. At first, this horrified you, but as you thought about it, there was a definite bonus. The Dai Li’s efforts would be focused on the Avatar and his friends, and if you were considered a vanished non-issue, then there would be no eyes scanning the city for you. It left you free to operate as you wanted, given that you employed a modicum of caution.
Digging through the wardrobe of the room you were in, which upon investigation revealed itself to most likely be Katara’s, you pulled out a scarf and wrapped it around your neck and head. Though it did nothing about your stained dress, it concealed your identity well enough that you felt more comfortable walking outside than you had before.
“What about you?” you said to the winged lemur, scratching it behind its enormous ears. “You saved my life, I’m pretty sure. Thank you for that. Where will you go now?”
The winged lemur purred at you, rubbing its cheek against your own and tightening its grip on your shoulder. You giggled and rubbed its forehead.
“Alright, then. You can help me. Come along, but be prepared; it might be dangerous. I don’t think there’s time to rendezvous with the Avatar. I’ll have to storm my own palace and demand to see my brother myself,” you said, squaring your shoulders, finding some irony in the fact that you had finally been given leave to live your life how you wanted and yet you were returning to the very place you had tried so desperately, for so many years, to run from.
After all, if Princess Y/N was considered dead, then that meant you could live in disguise and become someone else. You could leave Ba Sing Se entirely and travel the world, see the sights you had thus far only ever read about. The capital of ice in the North Pole, the city of Omashu, which was commonly referred to as Ba Sing Se’s little sister
it was a possibility. There was no one stopping you anymore.
No one, of course, except for your own conscience. You could not leave when you knew that the Dai Li and Long Feng had killed your father and were planning on overthrowing your brother. You could not leave when your people, the ones who you had been born with a duty to, were being manipulated and taxed and abused by the ones that were meant to have their best interests at heart. And, though it was less grand of a reason, you could not leave the city where Lee was. Not without telling him first.
Though you knew the villa was located in the Upper Ring, it took you a moment to regain your bearings and find the palace. After all, it was far more difficult returning without one of Quynh’s doors to serve as a convenient portal or the Dai Li escorting you with their Earthbending. The sun was already high in the sky by the time you made it to the palace gates, but by the time you arrived, you found another problem facing you.
The royal military, which guarded the palace, was in complete disarray. It was as if a tornado had torn through them. Men were strewn about, staggering to their feet, while others used their own Earthbending to fix their formations. Was the palace under attack? Were you too late? Had Long Feng’s rebellion already begun?
“Who goes there?” a guard shouted at you. You did not respond, picking up your speed from a mere walk to a sprint, holding the scarf over your head so that it did not blow off as you ran. You could not know if you trusted the army or if they were in league with the Dai Li, and unless you were forced to, you did not want to reveal who you were.
“Hey! Answer us!” another guard said. You kept running towards the bridge over the moat. You just needed to cross that bridge, and from there, nothing could stop you. They must’ve had that same thought, though, as the stones of the bridge began to recede, leaving a gaping maw where you should’ve crossed.
Then the boulders began to fly. They weren’t trying to hit you, but they were blocking your path, making your entrance far more difficult. You used one hand to cover the winged lemur’s eyes from the dust pluming in front of you, squinting your own so that you were not blinded by it.
If you did not do something, then the guards would go from obstructive efforts to far more deadly methods. Earthbending against this quantity of offensive parties was a suicidal idea, especially when you were on the palace’s doorstep and there was a high chance you’d get caught, but there was one final card you could play, the one you had been unwilling to part with most of all.
Casting the scarf aside, you pointed at the guard who had been lifting another boulder into the air to throw at you. He paused mid-action, and then he pointed back at you, like he could not believe his eyes.
“I am Princess Y/N of the Earth Kingdom, you fool, and what you are doing right now is treason! If you throw even a pebble more at me, I’ll have you hanged!” you said.
“Princess Y/N?” the guard said, the boulder thudding to the ground before him as he dropped into a bow. “We were under the impression that you were — that you were dead!”
“Don’t be ridiculous. Reform that bridge at once,” you said. “Did you think that a girl of Shan’s line could be killed that easily? Perhaps I must remind you: I am the princess. As long as my people need me, I cannot die.”
After that, you walked unchallenged towards the steps leading up to the palace. It confirmed one thing, at least: the army was not allied with the Dai Li. If it was, then you would’ve been seized by now and dragged to Long Feng, but all that the soldiers did was shy away when you stalked past, giving you looks that were equal parts questioning and awed, like they could not quite believe that the shy, delicate little princess was capable of such feats.
It was only a matter of time before the Dai Li caught wind of your presence, if they had not already. You had to make it to the throne room by then. At least for now, they were limited in what they could do while Kuei was watching, for he was still the supreme authority of the kingdom. Now that you had gone and announced who you were, they ought to have done everything they could’ve to stop you, but curiously, there was no one that came to block your path.
Even stranger, the route to the throne room was torn apart and devoid of guards. There had clearly been a fight, but who had broken into the palace and managed to overtake it so quickly?
The walls were crumbling, and entire pillars had been torn in half. There were scuff marks on the carpet, and the stone floors glittered with dampness — it had obviously been a massacre. For the first time, you felt like you actually fit in, your ragged appearance matching the ruined entrance hall perfectly.
“I don’t know if I can trust you,” Kuei’s voice drifted out from the throne room, the door to which was, for some reason, lying on the ground. “I’m sorry, but you have no proof. I’ll have to trust my advisors on this one. Long Feng, what do you say of their claims?”
“Do you think that I could’ve hid a hundred years of war from you?” Long Feng said, his voice cold and flat. “What’s more, I’ve received some disturbing news. It seems that the Dai Li found evidence that the Avatar and his friends were involved in the murder of Captain Chhay, as well as your sister’s abduction.”
“What?” Kuei said.
“What is he talking about?” Katara said.
“I’m an Air Nomad! Killing is against my morals!” Aang said.
“Look, we didn’t kidnap or murder anyone! You have to believe us,” Sokka said. “About that, and about the war. I don’t know why your advisor is lying about all of this, but you have to see through it!”
“Even from the Avatar, this kind of situation is just too fantastical. I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to arrest you, at least until Y/N is found and Captain Chhay’s murderer is apprehended,” Kuei said.
“You don’t have to look any further,” you said, pausing in the doorway to catch your breath, hunched over as you wheezed from how much you had pushed yourself. The winged lemur jumped from your shoulder and scampered over to Aang, who made a small noise of surprise at the arrival. “I’m here.”
“Y/N?” Kuei said.
“Your royal highness?” Long Feng said, his innocence clearly feigned, though his surprise likely wasn’t. You glared at him, regaining your composure and straightening before taking the same place as always: below the throne, staring up at those who would always be above you. Your brother, the king. Long Feng, the traitor. You were beneath them both, but this time, you did not allow either of them to intimidate you.
“Where have you been, sister?” Kuei said. “We thought the worst must’ve happened! The servants came in the morning, and all they found was Captain Chhay’s long-dead body. You were gone. Who took you? Did they hurt you?”
“Clearly the princess has been through a horrible ordeal, your majesty,” Long Feng said. “Look at her dress. She needs time to rest and recover from what was no doubt a most harrowing encounter.”
“I’m fine,” you said. “There was nothing harrowing about it. He didn’t even have time to fight back.”
“Of course, you must’ve managed to escape somehow, and thank Quynh for that,” Long Feng said. “But just the mere experience of being kidnapped would’ve been traumatic. Poor princess
I will assign thrice the Dai Li agents to look after you, so that you may rest in peace.”
“I didn’t have to escape, and I wasn’t kidnapped,” you said. “This kind of conduct can be expected of my brother, but I know at least you are smarter than this, Long Feng. In fact, I know a lot of things about you now.”
“No,” Long Feng said.
“Yes,” you said. “You understand, don’t you? I killed him. I killed Captain Chhay.”
Kuei shrieked. “What?”
“It’s true,” you said. “I did it.”
“No way,” Toph said from behind you. “I think I respect you a lot more now.”
“Toph!” Katara hissed.
“Dai Li, seize her at once!” Long Feng said, gesturing towards you impatiently.
“Y/N
how? How did you do that?” Kuei said. “How did you murder someone? No, not just someone — the Captain of the Dai Li himself!”
“Does it matter?” you said as earthen cuffs bound your wrists behind your back once again. “The more important question is why. That’s what you should really want to know.”
“Take her to her chambers and ensure she does not leave!” Long Feng said.
“Why did I do it? What cause could your dear sister have to kill a man? Ask!” you said.
“We will decide what to do with you after we have gotten rid of the Avatar and his friends,” Long Feng said.
“Kuei!” you said. Putting him in this position was the worst thing you had ever done to him, but it was necessary. He had to seek out the information, or else he’d cover his ears and hide away as he always did.
His eyes swam with emotions you doubted he had ever been exposed to before, a veritable maelstrom of thoughts and questions and feelings that he likely did not even know how to handle. Dai Li agents appeared at your shoulders, but you did not take your eyes off of your brother. Your brother, who loved you. Your brother, who was the only family you knew. Your brother, who was the Earth King, the supreme authority in all the kingdom. You looked only at him, and you waited.
“Stop! Release her!” he said. The Dai Li hesitated, but though their loyalty might have been to Long Feng, they still had to abide by Kuei’s commands above all else. The stone restraints crumbled away, and the agents bowed before stepping away from you. “Why did you do it, Y/N?”
“Because Captain Chhay killed our father,” you said. “And he did it on Long Feng’s command.”
“What?” Sokka said.
“This is so complicated,” Aang said. Sokka hummed in agreement.
“That — you cannot just accuse people of regicide without proof!” Long Feng said.
“You sent Captain Chhay after me. He tried to kill me multiple times in Ba Sing Se alone. That’s proof enough! He was your little pet, wasn’t he? It’s what your own agents called him, after all. The beast of the Dai Li, sent to do Long Feng’s bidding. Who else but he would’ve been the one to kill the 51st Earth King?” you said.
“You’re being ridiculous! What motivation would I have to assassinate your father?” Long Feng said.
“Stewardship over the Earth Kingdom isn’t a bad prize,” you said. “Though I’ll admit that luck did play a role. After all, if our mother hadn’t died as well, then she’d be Kuei’s regent.”
“What, did he kill her, too?” Sokka said. “This dude just keeps getting eviler and eviler.”
“No, he — actually, wait,” you said. There was no proof, but for some reason, you didn’t find it too far out of the realm of plausibility. “There’s a chance, though I don’t have any proof for that claim as of right now.”
“You’re going on and on about nothing,” Long Feng said. “I’m not the ruler of the Earth Kingdom. Your brother is.”
“Yet he only implements policies that you approve of,” you said. “Policies which, if I might add, are deliberately harming our people! You’re sabotaging his reign so that our family is overthrown for good. You mean to usurp Kuei, and don’t even try to deny it — I overheard your agents discussing it, and, more importantly, I’ve seen the effects of your suggestions firsthand.
“The only city safe from the war charging exorbitant prices to those refugees which try to enter
thank goodness for that unnamed noblewoman allowing passage through the second southeast gate, right? I won’t speculate about her identity, but I’ll give you a hint: she’s someone you’d recognize.”
“You little wench,” Long Feng said. “You wasted your own money on that? I should’ve known.”
“That’s not all. You refuse to acknowledge the disparity between Upper and Lower Ring citizens, and the Dai Li are closer to terrorists than officers of justice. The people of Ba Sing Se are frightened to speak out about anything, because the Dai Li is always watching. No wonder they hate Kuei and I. No wonder they riot in the streets! But that’s exactly what you planned,” you spat. “Because once they revolt, you will pretend to be on their side and then use the same structures you claim to be against to strengthen your power, your grip on this nation. Kuei and I might be uneducated about the reality of this world and its wars, but at least we care about our people! Can you even claim that much? What sort of an advisor are you?”
“Continuing to speak will only incriminate you further,” Long Feng said. “You have gone mad, princess. There’s no other explanation for why you killed the captain meant to protect you, or for why you are saying such things. They are the ravings of a lunatic! King Kuei, I recommend she be arrested and sent to a correctional facility equipped to handle her case at once.”
You had said all you needed to, and so you just pursed your lips and ducked your head. Your part was done; now, it was up to Kuei to do what was right. If he did not make the proper choice now, then it was hopeless. Then they could take you wherever they wanted, because you could not fight back against your own flesh and blood.
“Dai Li, arrest—” You could not help your shoulders from slumping at Kuei’s declaration. Despite everything, it had not been enough. He still did not have any faith in you. “—Long Feng!”
“What? Your royal majesty, what is the meaning of this?” Long Feng said as the Dai Li agents saluted at Kuei before clicking a pair of metal handcuffs around Long Feng’s wrists.
“Did you really think I’d believe you over Y/N? Did you really think that there’s anyone in the world who I value more than her? It would’ve been more suitable for you to pretend like you actually cared about her. I might’ve been more inclined to agree with you then, but no matter your station, if you dare to speak against my dear sister like that, then you must face the harshest of repercussions,” Kuei said, standing and drawing himself to his full height.
“Kuei?” you said softly. You had never thought that he would be the one who would do something like this. Never in your wildest dreams had you imagined that he would stand up for himself, for you, to this extent. Yet here he was, doing exactly that.
“You are making a mistake! If you do this, you will be remembered as a foolish, empty-minded despot who used his power to rid the kingdom of any who dared to criticize his family,” Long Feng said. “You will be remembered as a tyrant. I swear it to be so!”
“That’s fine,” Kuei said. “They can remember me as a tyrant if that is what they will — as long as I am remembered as a tyrant who loved his sister. Agents, please, take him away at once! I’ve had enough of listening to him. I think it’s time that I take counsel from more qualified parties.”
“You’ll regret this,” Long Feng said over his shoulder. “I can assure you of that!”
“And you’ll regret killing my father,” Kuei said. “I can assure you of that.”
“I didn’t think he had it in him,” Sokka mused, earning him a snort of approval from Toph.
“Are you finally willing to listen to us?” Aang said. Kuei massaged his temples.
“Yes, I am. What’s this talk of war? Who are we at war with?” he said.
“The Fire Nation,” Katara said. “They attacked a hundred years ago. They killed all of the Air Nomads and have been steadily invading the Earth Kingdom; Ba Sing Se is the only place that’s still completely safe from their influence.”
“Because of the walls?” Kuei said.
“Yes, exactly. They haven’t managed to break through yet, which is why so many refugees have been coming here — most of them have lost their homes, and Ba Sing Se is the last hope they have at making new lives,” Aang said.
“The Fire Nation is that strong?” you said.
“That strong, and that dedicated. You know, their prince chased us all of the way here!” Katara said.
“For what reason?” you said.
“Something about capturing the Avatar and restoring his honor, I think,” Sokka said. “I’m not really sure. But! We have a way to defeat them, as long as you lend us your support.”
“We’ll do whatever we can,” Kuei said. “Right, Y/N?”
“Of course,” you said. Without Long Feng there to guide him, Kuei was like a baby animal whose legs were still wobbly and eyes were still barely opened. It would take time before he could stand on his own; until then, he needed someone who he could rely on, someone who could reassure him that he was doing the right thing. And since you’d rather that person be you than anyone more unsavory, you took the role upon yourself with as much grace as you could muster.
“The day of the black sun is coming up,” Sokka said. “The sun will disappear behind the moon for a window of time, and all Firebenders will lose their power. We have to strike them while they can’t fight back. That’s what we need your armies for — while they take care of the Fire Nation forces, Aang and a small task force will infiltrate the palace directly and defeat Fire Lord Ozai for good.”
Kuei glanced at you. You nodded. If they were telling the truth and this day of the black sun was a real event, then it was probably the best chance you had at turning the tides of a war that you had thus far been losing.
“Say, Katara,” you said as you walked her and Toph to the guest rooms they’d be staying in after they had finished briefing you. “Earlier, you mentioned a Prince Zuko and a Princess Azula. What are they like?”
You were fascinated by the thought that there was another pair of siblings not too dissimilar to you and Kuei, albeit younger, of course. Another pair of siblings who bore the burden of a crown. Another pair of siblings who had the weight of a nation looming over them. Would they understand the sense of duty which prevailed in you? The patriotism, the love for your subjects? You would likely never get to meet them and ask, considering you and they were on opposite sides of a war, so you settled for this, for learning about them through Katara’s words.
“They’re the worst of the worst,” Katara said.
“It’s true. They’re pretty crazy,” Toph said. “Though their uncle isn’t that bad!”
“Maybe you shouldn’t say that, considering he did lay siege to her city for six hundred days,” Katara said. “And not too long ago. I mean, it happened in our lifetime.”
It was almost a credit to Long Feng’s dedication, you thought, that he had even managed to hide such a long siege from you and your brother. The fact that Ba Sing Se had been under attack for two of your years of living and yet you had not known a thing about it was actually impressive, if not unfortunate.
“Oh, yeah. Forgot about that,” Toph said. “He’s pretty nice otherwise, though.”
“Naturally,” you said, bemused.
“We don’t know much about Azula, except that she’s Zuko’s sister and the princess of the Fire Nation, but Zuko’s been on our tail pretty much since Sokka and I found Aang in that iceberg. Apparently, he was banished or something, and the only way he can regain his honor is if he captures the Avatar. That’s what we’ve put together from his random speeches and consistent efforts, anyways,” Katara said.
“Although, we haven’t seen him in a bit,” Toph said. “Maybe he’s settled down somewhere.”
“Or he’s in disguise,” you offered. “You could’ve seen him and not even realized who he truly was.”
Katara shook her head. “No, he’s pretty distinctive looking. He has the giant burn scar covering the left half of his face — it makes him hard to miss. If we had seen him, we would’ve known.”
Your mind blanked, your stomach churning as you tried to process what she had just said. Burn scar. Left half of his face. Where else had you seen that distinctive mark before? You didn’t want to recall, but you did.
“Does he really?” you said to Toph.
“I dunno,” Toph said. “I’m blind.”
“Ah, right,” you said.
“Like I said when we first met, though, I can tell when people are lying, and she’s not. I don’t see what the reason to lie about that would even be,” Toph said. “It’s kind of a really specific thing to make up.”
“I’m telling the truth,” Katara affirmed. “Why, what’s wrong? I guess it’s kind of weird for the prince of the Fire Nation to be have a burn wound, but it was probably a training accident or something.”
“Oh, no,” you said. “Oh, no, no, no!”
“What’s wrong?” Katara said.
You did not want to listen to them, but if they were telling the truth, and you knew in your heart of hearts that they were, then that meant only one thing: Prince Zuko hadn’t settled down. He hadn’t given up on his chase or his war. He had moved on to more strategic maneuvers, that was all. Stealth instead of strength. Infiltration instead of invasion.
“He’s here,” you said, stopping and gripping her shoulders. She blinked at you, her blue eyes wide with uncertainty. “Katara, listen to me. All of you need to leave Ba Sing Se at once. If he gets his hands on Aang, then there’s no chance of our plans succeeding.”
“Huh? What’re you talking about?” Toph said.
“Prince Zuko’s here,” you said. “In Ba Sing Se, under an alias. I’ve seen him. I’ve met him. If the Avatar is his end goal, then the Avatar must leave as soon as possible. It’s not safe here.”
“But isn’t the Earth Palace the safest place in the world? There’s no way he can get past all of those guards all by himself,” Toph said. “He’s not that good of a bender, I’m pretty sure.”
You groaned. “No, he can get in. Anytime he wants.”
“How?” Katara said.
“It’s not important,” you said, too ashamed to admit your mistake. “Look, I trusted you all, didn’t I? Now you must trust me.”
Katara seemed uncertain, but Toph nodded at you, her expression set.
“We’ll just leave early,” she said. “I’ll go see my mother, Katara and Sokka will meet up with their father, and Aang can go visit that guru. Hopefully, by the time we’re finished with those errands, things will be dealt with.”
“I am sure it will not be a problem,” you said. “But just in case, you probably should not return to the capital. Unless Kuei or I appear before you ourselves, it would befit you to assume that any summons are deceptive in nature.”
“Are you sure about this?” Katara said. “If it really is Zuko, then he must have some tricks up his sleeve. Will it be okay for us to leave you alone?”
“If Aang is killed or captured, then it will be many years before the next Avatar reaches the level of training necessary to face the Fire Lord,” you said. “It’s too great of a risk for you to stay when it’s all but confirmed that Prince Zuko is here. As for me, I have the might of the Earth Kingdom behind me. No matter what, I’ll be fine.”
“Odds are that he’ll leave Ba Sing Se once we do, too, so there won’t even be any danger to the palace,” Toph said. “Once we go our separate ways, he’ll have to split his forces up as well, so it’ll also then be easier for us to take him on.”
“There’s also that,” you said.
“You have a point,” Katara said. “Alright. Toph, go tell Aang to get Appa ready. I’ll get Sokka and catch him up.”
“Be safe,” you said.
“You too,” Katara said. Toph punched you in the arm.
“Stay sharp, princess. See you around,” she said. “You’re not as much of an idiot as you could be.”
“Thank you,” you said. “I look forward to seeing you all again — if not in Ba Sing Se, then in the Fire Nation, on the day of the black sun, when we finally bring about their downfall for good.”

This is something I've turning around in my mind due to the general discourse around Katara "hating" Zuko, and obviously she doesn't hate him at all after TSR, but do you think she truly even /hated/ him after Ba Sing Se? She was absolutely within her right to be hurt and angry about his choice, and I'm glad the show actually let her hold onto that for awhile b/c so often K has to be the bigger person and manage everyone else's emotions, but being hurt and angry at someone, even lashing out at them b/c of that, isn't the same thing as hating them imo. Like tbh their entire vibe to me from the moment Zuko turns up at the Western Air Temple until TSR is exes after a bad breakup but there's still unresolved feelings there, which was certainly an interesting writing choice for them to go with (only made more so by the textbook romance writing grovelling in TSR.)
Yeah, she isn't mad at him because she hates him, she's mad at him because she cares about him, because she wanted to care about him, and because she thought he cared about her. Even when she tells the gaang that Zuko was "pretending to be a human being" in the catacombs, it gives the impression that she is trying to convince herself that what she's saying is true, that the moment they shared and the vulnerability Zuko showed in that moment wasn't real.
The other thing that gives the lie to the idea that Katara hates Zuko or just sees him as an enemy is that when she confronts him when they are alone, and threatens him, she doesn't react to him like she thinks he's lying about wanting to do the right thing, she confronts him about how "you and I both know you've struggled with doing the right thing in the past." In front of everyone else, she makes it seem like she thinks Zuko is just evil, but when she's alone with him, she makes it clear that she knows he isn't, and that this is really about how she can't trust him, how he broke her trust. It's personal, not just about him being fire nation.
And the fact that she waited to tell him this in private, while denying her feelings in public, is absolutely romantic coded. I've also pointed out before that the framing of the confrontation mirrors the final scene between Zuko and Mai (or rather, that the Zuko and Mai scene, which is explicitly romantically coded, mirrors this one), Katara standing in the doorway to interrupt Zuko's triumphant moment with a reminder that his past isn't so easily moved past, and a reminder of who he's hurt. It absolutely gives vibes of an ex who you still have feelings for.
Which is why it's hilarious that Bryke made that comment about zutara being a relationship you experience before realizing what you really need (with the implication that Katara really needs Aang and Zuko really needs Mai), because what it actually feels like is two people who were immediately drawn to each other, ended up hurting each other, broke it off, but then still had feelings for each other and ended the series closer than they were before. If Bryke really wanted us to think zutara were not good for each other, then there could have been a moment where, when Zuko and Katara get their closure with each other, there's also the G-rated equivalent of "let's just be friends." Maybe have Katara say something like, "I forgive you, but I can't make the choice you want me to make." This is also in an alternate universe where Zuko more explicitly encourages Katara to kill Yon Rah. But none of that happens. The episode does not tell us that Zuko is not good for Katara or vice versa. It has Katara end the episode by explicitly disagreeing with Aang and enthusiastically embracing Zuko without any hesitation at all.
That hug is so meaningful because it's the release of tension that the narrative has been building up since that moment in the catacombs. It's not that Katara hated Zuko but now cares about him, it's that she wanted to care about him way back in the catacombs and now she's able to express that without being afraid that he'll break her trust.

miko is SO REAL for that, two switches fighting over who gets to dom is the best dynamic. if you have time/want to i'd be curious to hear any sub headcanons you have for lisa, ei, ningguang and/or kafka!
this is so incredibly self indulgent because i see ningguang, ei and kafka in the same sentence and explode. everyone pretend i didnt accidentally pick a fav here um
ningguang i already see as a pillow princess more than anything she fits this so well. absolutely adores going slow + worship. treat this woman like royalty and lord you will not regret it. she goes all out to make the night as perfect as possible. will not let you have a hand in any of it sorry!! this is her turf. perfect atmosphere suited to your tastes (tons of candles, if you like that, or just going by moonlight is also her style). incense, taking a few minutes beforehand just to really get settled in the mood (usually by cuddling, but shes not against just taking a moment for some tea or even a game of chess).
you'll also probably need all that extra time to sort through whatever shes bought this time. when i said she goes the whole nine yards i mean it. she has money and she will use it. very expensive lingerie for herself (and you, if thats your thing.) and literally anything you could ever want. it heavily depends on what you both want out of the night but she spares no mora making it the best she can.
the non-sexual intimacy before hand (and especially after) is important to her she takes it very seriously (for the both of you). you'll probably get dragged into taking a long bath afterwards before actually going to bed. hope you arent too tired! because its gonna be a while before you actually sleep.
because this woman has stamina. technically. she's just really pent up and theres no better way to get that stress out then soft sex with her partner. shes not picky about positions really but she has a soft spot for laying on her stomach with a pillow to prop up her hips (really accentuates the pillow princess part, huh /j). if you start massaging her she's gonna wake up the entirety of liyue. she's normally quiet but lord knows she needs it and she cant keep quiet for the life of her.
genuinely just very soft and gentle. she just needs some good pampering after a long day to unwind (preferably with a glass of wine, but thats for later).
ei..is very awkward about it. she probably gets embarrassed if you bring it up but shes not. opposed per se. she's just used to domming that she has no idea what to do. genuinely a mess the first time around but she gets the hang of it quick (shes a quick learner :])
also you just really get to see a side of her you usually never do! she's usually big on topping and shes pretty calm and composed about it (usually). not cold, just..she doesn't outwardly express things often. except when shes subbing. its like a switch flipped
just dont tease her about how visibly flustered and awkward she is about it. because she is. horribly so. shes still pretty quiet but thats just ei, to be fair. its like a cute, nervous puppy. call her a good girl though and she might short circuit so badly the shogun comes out
though i also see ei as someone who prefers giving even when subbing. a dangerous combo considering her body is a puppet and, yknow, cant get tired. you will have to pry this woman off you shes lowkey insatiable when it comes to pleasing you. 100% less of a brat, though. you give her an order shes following through with it before you can blink. efficient!
kafka is similar to miko, imo. maybe yelan too?? she gives off big brat vibes when she subs. she wont use suggestion in bed unless your 100% cool with it and even then its usually when she doms but when she subs? shes a menace. bit of a masochist, to be honest. she'll push your buttons until you crack and decide to punish her but woops, thats just what she wants so she wins anyway!
she cant feel fear but she certainly enjoys a good thrill. specifically sensory deprivation. cover her eyes with a blindfold and keep her guessing. its probably her favorite part, the closest she can get to fear. especially if you add a bit of pain into it.
choking, spanking, bit of blood..this woman is smiling through it all like she's the happiest woman in the world. especially if it makes you frustrated. shes like it desperate and rough.
if thats not your speed, though, she can get that thrill in other ways. semi public sex is her jam so sandwich her against a wall in some random supply closet and make her scream. shes not quiet even in the comfort of whatever room shes booked this time and you'll have to physically shut her up if you dont want to get caught. shes still a brat at heart, though. put your fingers in her mouth and she'll bite. your gonna need the patience of a saint to dom kafka.

Updated Tales Series Rankings
Count Dooku: I don't have to explain to you how great this is. The worst part is that Lucasfilm doesn't have a place to build on the amazing story they brought to life via animation. The beauty that is Dooku: Jedi Lost and the parts of Dooku explored in Dark Disciple are seemingly never going to be expounded upon in any medium moving forward.
Asajj Ventress: Sure, episode 2 didn't really give us much. But episodes 1 and 3 definitely honed in on Ventress as a character for the first time in a while. She is such a fascinating character. But, what really sets her story above the rest for me is that it clearly is the setup of future stories involving Quinlan Voss (ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME!) and The Hidden Path. It is the only one that makes me excited for future content. And it successfully handles the continuity issues involving Dark Disciple which reared their head when she made her appearance in The Bad Batch. I almost wouldn't even call it a retcon per se, just a smartly crafted continuation.
Barriss Offee: Thank God I liked Bariss's trilogy as much as I did because otherwise, TOTE would have really dampened the success of TOTJ. Barriss' episodes did a great job at not only continuing her story, but giving insight into how the Inquisitors operate. Her "return to the light" was compelling in the 45 minutes provided, and her role as The Healer is unique. Barriss, much like Ahsoka and Anakin, is a character who is supposed to make you question the ethics of the Jedi Order. And they do so beautifully with her trilogy. I look forward to seeing more of her story.
Cad Bane: Cad Bane's trilogy may be the second best at fleshing out a character's story by diving deeper into a personal origin story (this is of course second to only Dooku's trilogy, which functions as his Sith origin story, and not a traditional origin story from birth, like done for Ahsoka's trilogy). The age old story of two childhood friends becoming foes is incredibly Star Wars, except these two have no force sensitivity at all. They are like the rest of us. The end culminating around Issac is heartbreaking, but promising. I will certainly be on the lookout for a blue Duros in future projects! Even as someone that is not all that into westerns, Cad Bane's outlaw vibe always lands sooo well for me.
Ahsoka Tano: My biggest problem with Ahsoka's trilogy is that she was not actually the highlight of her own trilogy for most of the three episodes imo. Instead, I found the stories of other featured characters, like Anakin and the clones, and Bail and the state of the rebellion to be much more interesting. Her standout episode for me was definitely Practice Makes Perfect where Anakin absolutely ran her through the ringer with drills only to end in seeing her and Rex moments before they stepped out amongst the rest of the 212 during Order 66 as shown in the series finale of The Clone Wars. And even though looking back it was clear that Filoni wanted to save many things for the Ahsoka series, I still wish we had more intriguing stories about Ahsoka. For example, if one of the episodes were the flashbacks Ahsoka saw in the world between worlds in her show, I would have been very satisfied. That seemed like a perfect fit for the Tales Series that we missed out on.
Morgan Elsbeth: Maybe there are some Morgan Elsbeth fans. I don't mean to demean you at all. But I have yet to come across anyone that gives a shit about Morgan. I really think they picked the wrong character for this series. I don't remember a single thing that happened in her trilogy, other than we got an origin story for her. Don't ask me what it is. All I know is that she is Dathomiri. I think you have to pick characters that people know enough about to be interested in learning more. And Morgan Elsbeth ain't it. She was a low point in Ahsoka, and her Tales story did nothing for me. She hasn't been intriguing to me since her introduction in The Mandalorian. If I didn't make myself clear: I never cared about Morgan Elsbeth, and this trilogy actually made me care less about her. I am all about seeing more characters from Dathomir, it's a fascinating planet. But, I haven't been sold on Morgan Elsbeth.

What’re your thoughts on how the Elayne/Elaida dynamic might play out on screen?
Their intense antagonism of each other was something about the books that always struck me as weird, as if they haven’t lived as all but family for two decades.
hmmmm, an interesting question! oftentimes the books make the future antagonists seem cartoonishly antagonistic from the getgo, even if they haven't become (or been revealed as) antagonists yet. thinking of elaida, taim, and maybe lord luc as well (i don't remember his early TSR stuff very well) - they're belligerent and shady and giving off rancid vibes from the moment they arrive on-page, and so the reader isn't at all surprised when they end up being antagonists.
but i imagine the show will give us a more nuanced elaida, especially with them casting such a talented actress to portray her. i mean, i don't expect them to try and hide the fact that she's an antagonist and i'm sure show-onlys will clock right away that this lady spells trouble for our gang, but i doubt her rancid vibes will be over the top. maybe early-show elaida will have more of a "harsh but fair, and stone-cold competent" vibe (leaving the audience and perhaps elayne with the same kind of "i don't like her on a personal level but i can't help but respect her for getting shit done" attitude that imo moiraine had when describing that incident to rand in 1x08), and then we'll watch her growing more and more ruthless and unhinged over the course of the show. maybe she'll be more like a stern aunt than an enemy to elayne, someone whom elayne respects on some level even if they clash sometimes. or maybe not, maybe elayne still won't like her much in showverse!
then for elaida's feelings/behavior towards elayne, with her foretelling about house trakand being key to the last battle, surely she would have been making an effort all these years to cultivate a good relationship with elayne so that elayne will be inclined to listen to her advice if she turns out to be the prophesized key person. so it wouldn't really make sense if she's constantly pissing elayne off and being mean to her, but on the other hand, trying to make people like her does not feel like a skill elaida particularly has in her wheelhouse haha she certainly would not have spent the past 20 years spoiling and indulging elayne's every whim! maybe moreso trying to establish herself as a trusted mentor figure for elayne, without going overboard in trying to make elayne like her on a personal level.
on the other hand, if we follow book structure, elayne and elaida would literally never see each other again after this brief overlap at the start of s3, and so their relationship might not even matter too much or be given much attention during that overlap; maybe the show will instead have a scene or two of elayne talking with the full caemlyn squad and then use the rest of the overlap time on elayne with just her mom and brothers + elaida with moiraine and siuan (and min, if that leaked audition script is to be believed), and then later in the season add in a focus on elaida and gawyn's relationship (since that's a key one) without ever doing too much with elaida & elayne. back to the first hand, the show likes to connect characters and storylines as much as possible, so it's entirely possible that elayne and elaida WILL cross paths again later in the show and that s3 will want to establish a meaningful dynamic between them.
overall, while the books take a fairly idealized view of the trakand family dynamics and they often come off more as a normal wholesome uncomplicated family than a royal one with all the natural baggage a royal family should have attached to it, there are hints of it not being all sunshine and roses over there (ex: elayne slipping in a quick casual mention of how one of her earliest memories is being scared galad would try to kill gawyn for his title while play-swordfighting and that's subconsciously why she's never been fond of galad; gawyn's most treasured possession being a gift from his mom engraved with a message calling him a sword for more important people to use), so there is definitely some space for the show to create some juicy, nuanced, complicated family dynamics here if they so choose, and elaida might well be part of that. we shall see! i'm so excited!!

Maybe you’d get it because you’re a Calypso fan, idk but here’s my thoughts.
As far as the fandom goes, some of the ways I’ve read them talk about calypso and her fans is so odd. Just the way Caly is sooo evil and beyond understanding in their eyes and the fans are weird for liking her.
Like it’s just giving “this is my first fandom” or something. Do they not know yanderes and darkshipping has been a thing for ages? Like I’m sorry in the grand scheme of fictional characters doing bad things, caly isn’t even THAT horrific imo. Especially wild given our basis is Greek mythology, everyone would or at least should know it’s pretty dark as a given.
You're talking to the right person because I get you completely.
I don't think people realize just how big yandere and 'darkshipping' has always been. I hate the whole "x-shipping" terminology, by the way.
Back in my day, if you shipped, you shipped. If you didn't ship, you didn't ship. And instead of seeking conflict and creating wars, you just vibed with whoever you wanted. There was a mutual understanding and respect there. You vibe with your homies, I vibe with mine. You enjoy the thing in your way, I do in mine.
Now, there's this whole ridiculous pro-ship vs anti-ship discourse, which has spiraled out of fucking control. Originally, "pro-ship" meant you enjoy shipping, now it's apparently a code for pedophiles, which is just ridiculous. Yes, there will be some really fucked up people there, there's fucked up people everywhere, in every social group. I genuinely do not want to interact with anyone who even takes part in that nonsense. If you don't want to ship, don't ship. Block the ship tag and live your fucking life without giving people shit.
I'm getting a bit side-tracked, but that's because the shipping discourse irritates me to no end. I could (and have) rant about it for hours.
Now, back to your point. People are absolutely losing their shit over Calypso, yes, but not just her. They hate any character they don't understand and feel the need to think in binaries (you're either pro something or against it, you either love something or you hate it, etc), not realizing there are also grey zones in many things.
A great example of binary thinking in fandoms is Captain Curly from Mouthwashing. People consider him a villain while he is a victim of emotional manipulation trapped in a situation that doesn't have a definite good solution. At most, he is an unintentional accomplice, but even that would be reaching. Yet, to the fandom, this complex character is just a villain because he didn't do anything to Jimmy.
Is Calypso a villain? Yes. I'm not denying that, but I'm also acknowledging that there's more to her character. Hell, I see myself in her. I recognize she did wrong while also understanding just how toxic and terrible someone can become when they feel alone for years and then there's suddenly someone there. I recognize how toxic and possessive someone can get when they feel like finally there's this one person there for them. I know what Calypso's dependency on someone is. I'm not justifying her, but I do understand her.
And I understand how people feel when it comes to liking problematic characters. But it's not my problem that you cannot understand me liking them. If you disagree with me, block me, that's what the fucking button's there for. And it's certainly not my problem that you cannot realize that the persona I have online isn't 100% the person I am IRL.
People seem to think that if you enjoy abusive dynamics or non-con fics, you're suddenly an abuser. And yes, there are some situations where it can be true, but you shouldn't use that logic against everyone you fucking meet.
The way I view those things is in a CNC kind of light. It's something that you, a real person, consent to. And if you don't consent, safeword your way out of there and block the person/tag.
I was in the fucking Hetalia fandom during it's most insane years. I've been there when simping for Offenderman was normal. I've been there when Purple Guy from FNAF was called Vincent. I've been into characters that are genuinely fucking despicable and I would never even look at them IRL, and somehow, I am not a fucking murderer despite being into several.
Modern fandom people need to get over themselves and realize that as long as you're dealing with an adult, responsible fucking individual, what someone enjoys dark kinky shit in fictional settings isn't what they support IRL.
And yes, of course there are exceptions to this. There are exceptions to everything. But I am genuinely exhausted of how modern fandom oversimplifies everything just to have a cute little puritan narrative and forces it onto everyone instead of creating their own little space like back in the old days.

JJK Characters and Songs that fit their Love Lives
Warnings: none, but some lyrics in the songs are a bit suggestive!! Also I’m mostly just an anime watcher so if this info isn’t up to date on what’s going on in the manga I’m sorry!!
Choso: I Wanna Be Yours by the Arctic Monkeys
Choso would do anything for his partner and would also be absolutely obsessed with them!! He would try to prove his worth at every given second and acts of service is for sure his love language. He’ll be anything his partner want him to be, as long as they call him theirs.
Gojo: Boombastic by Shaggy
Y’all already KNOW this is Satoru’s jam!! He’s a chill dude that lives to please his partners, romantically and otherwise. Smooth like silk and can take rejection like a champ (though, let’s be real, who’s rejecting him?), he is Mr. Lover Lover!!
And here’s a more serious one for him because I feel like people sometimes only focus on silly Gojo
Gojo Pt. 2: Hanging By a Moment by Lifehouse
Even though he has a happy go lucky side that usually shows, Satoru is a man that feels and cares so deeply. I feel like this song represents the part of him that’s trying to find himself beyond being a strong jujutsu sorcerer and the right partner could help him through those anxieties. He would want a partner to live in the moment with him and be the missing pieces to each other’s puzzles.
Geto: Roll to Me by Del Amitri
Suguru, though he’s been through a loooot, still has a good heart imo. He would be there wholeheartedly for the person he wants to date. Like in the song, he’d be there day or night to talk or be ready to support the person whenever something goes wrong.
Shoko: My Friends Over You by New Found Glory
I had a younger Shoko in mind when I chose this song but I feel like it still kinda applies to older Shoko as well. If she was seeing someone, it most likely would be low commitment and not that serious. Her friends come first, always. If her partner was dragging her down and boring her, she’d have no problem cutting them off asap!
Nanami: My Heart I Surrender by I Prevail
If there’s one thing I associate with Kento, it’s YEARNING. Yearning for a life he truly wanted, yearning for the safety of the youth. Would it be fair to assume his love life follows that pattern? He wouldn’t know if the person he liked returned his affection but that wouldn’t stop him from giving away his whole heart as he waited for the answer.
Yuji: The Way You Are by Babe Patrol
Yuji is great for this song. He holds strong conviction for doing what’s right and is always supporting those around him. As seen with Yuko, he appreciates people as they are and doesn’t expect them to change or conform to arbitrary standards. He would love his partner for being completely, unabashedly themselves.
Nobara: Wake Me Up Before You Go Go by WHAM!
Nobara is filled with fun energy and loving (in her own way) vibes so using one of the literal meanings from this song, I would think she’d be so down to go dancing with her partner! I could also see her complaining of a fast heart rate around her crush since she’s always hyped up and being around that person certainly wouldn’t help.
Megumi: And I Love Her by Kurt Cobain
Megumi is a straightforward, low key moody, no nonsense man so this song is perfect for him. It doesn’t dance around feelings at all and tells the audience like it is—a love between him and his partner will never die.
Panda: The Power of Love by New Found Glory
Panda has endless amounts of love for his friends and I know he believes in the power of love, 100%. He’s surrounded by it every day—Yaga, his classmates, even his teachers. Panda has a lot of love to give and isn’t afraid to show it!
Maki: SUGAR by Brockhampton
This song has a lot of lyrics that mention not needing anyone help and being able to do things individually and that’s Maki’s core belief. However, there are some mentions of learning to be okay leaning on a partner and I think that’s how she’d be. If she ever opened up to a partner, it would have to be her and them against the world forever.
Toge: Josie by Blink 182
Inumaki would need a partner who was there for him, no matter what. Someone who would laugh at his jokes, because let’s be honest, he’s hilarious, and someone who would bring him food just because they remembered his order. He would also love someone who shares the same crazy sleep schedule he has so if they were up at 3am watching “Vacation,” like mentioned in the song, that would be his dream.
Yuta: All 4 Love by Color Me Badd
This whole song SCREAAAMS YUTA!!! This certified lover boy would do anything for his partner and be their knight in shining (white) armor (jacket). He would never fail to tell his partner how lucky he is to have them and how attractive they are as well!!
Todo: She’s So High by Tal Bachman
I am 1000% convinced Todo would treat his partner like royalty and hold them in the highest regards. His passion for literally everything is unmatched and I absolutely expect to see that in his love life. Like in the song, he would equate his partner to icons like Cleopatra and Aphrodite because he thinks so highly of them.
Mai: I’m Thru With Love by Marilyn Monroe
Mai is definitely through with love. I feel like she’d fall in love once and completely give up the idea of finding someone else if it didn’t work out. She can’t stand being vulnerable and warm to others so this song is high key perfect for her.
Noritoshi: If I Could Ride a Bike by Park Bird/Chevy
Noritoshi deserves better!! There, I said it!! My boy doesn’t get enough love and that’s reflected in this song choice. The pressure to be a perfect member of the Kamo clan is a lot for him and having a partner that fits those same standards to be accepted is impossible so he’s left imagining what it would be like to love and be loved. I think he would want nothing more than to wake up and see his partner’s smiling face looking back at him and be able to go on carefree adventures with them.
Kokichi: Heaven, Iowa by Fall Out Boy
Poor Kokichi :(( I went a bit literal with the relation of the lyrics “scar crossed lovers” since his whole body was littered with messed up skin but I do feel like this song captures his vibe well. I feel like he wouldn’t ask anything of his partner and would just be beyond grateful he finally had someone there for him. He was doomed from birth with his heavenly restriction, thus having a dark outlook on life and further relating to the lyric “kiss my cheek, baby please, would you read my eulogy?” since I think he would like his partner to be there for him even after his death.
Miwa: Everywhere by Michelle Branch
I feel like Miwa is a hopeless romantic so she would relate to this song in that no matter what she does, it relates to her partner. No matter if it’s closing her eyes to sleep or keeping her partner in her thoughts wherever she goes, Miwa has a big heart and just needs to be hugged!
Momo: One Love by It’s Benzzo
I don’t know much about Momo but I know she can’t stand sexism so her partner would have to be open minded and kind, never failing to make her smile. She would just want someone to treat her right!
Yuki: Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer
This is the perfect song for Yuki imo. She seems like a flirtatious girl and would love a partner that went all out in romance for her. I think she’d like to get dressed up and then get swept off her feet every date night. Telling her partner to kiss her under the stars would be a great way for her to end the night!

I think Slay The Princess is Exceptional and amazing Visual Novel design that's made even more excellent by its poetic writing, voice acting and visuals. However.
Spoils under cut
Warning: A lot of this review is based on vibes and subjectivity. A lot of the friction I have with this game asks it to be something else rather than making note of what it IS.
Unfortunately, I just really don't vibe with it's greater Cosmic/Eldritch plot elements because I feel like they sort of cheapen the stakes and dullen my thematic experience.
The Game is at its best when you're dealing with the very Mortal circumstances of killing the princess. The In-between moments between timeloops that concern the larger plot and eventually the climax are weak to me because the titular princess becomes flat and uninteresting as an Eldritch being who by it's nature, doesn't care much about anything. Which makes sense contextually but doesn't make for a very interesting character imo.
Okay, sure, it's a love story, but there is fundamentally no romance. No big push and pull between the characters because all of the characterization tends to get swallowed up in Purple Prose about absolute "Everything's and Nothings being the ONE and The SAME-things" All of the character relationships either go unseen or are wiped away upon the end of each time loop.
Again. All of it is Exceptionally well threaded together, and I never get the impression that it's coming out of nowhere. It's cohesive and consistent with all of these elements. You could very much respond to everything I'm saying with:
"Yeah, that's the point. Cosmic horror and timeloops strip away meaning and connection by their nature because they Scale things up beyond the Material Reality"
But it doesn't really end up answering the jucier questions raised by its Premise except by way of overwhelming Cosmic Nonsense.
Why a Cabin In the woods?
Why a Princess?
Why chained in the basement?
All the answers are kind of boiled down to Cosmic Metaphor/contrivance by the end.
Its a shunted timeloop variation
She's a princess because it's a pretty face the Eldritch God Wanted to be
She's chained There because a Greater cosmic force is imprisoning her there.
If all of this is Your Thing, then great 👍 awesome. Again, all of those answers that the story gives ARE Answers at the end of the day Im just not very satisfied with them and I feel like this isn't really a legit criticism of what it is. It's more like longing for something I think it should be.
My impression the games premise was that of a CYOA/Escape The Room deal wherein you must wrestle with your sentimentality to kill a princess who's surprisingly more cunning and/or cruel than expected leading to Cat and Mouse kind of back and forth as a way to characterize an evolving relationship wherein you learn more and more about the princesses goals/motives as well as your own obligation to kill her.
NOW there's certainly a Decent amount of that in there in general. (At the beginning and in small bursts throughout) But because the princesses' goals/motives shift upon each loop depending on what monster she becomes and then is ultimately subsumed by the larger Eldritch princess by the end, it's hard to build up a character with consistency and I think having a consistent character is very nessecary to a Love Story/Romance.
Which is a shame because I also conversely REALLY like that element of the game where your decisions fundamentally change the nature of princess and therefore the playthrough.
STOP BEING SO EXCELLENT GAME!!
The Ending had me both sat firmly in my seat and a little bit disconnected. I wanted to see what all the effort was for and, again, because it's an excellent game, I was pretty happy to see how the choices came back to me. The final choice DID have me pretty stumped but not, I think, for the right reasons.
Mostly because both outcomes were so Cosmically Huge that it felt like it didn't really feel relevant to any of my in-game circumstances.
Do I...
Allow my Eldritch GF to keep up the Karmic Cycle of life and death with a fresh world on the chopping block ready to be unmade? (Narrator says That's Bad and there are Real People's Lives At Stake. Even though I'm pretty sure it's mentioned/implied we destroyed a couple timelines/worlds to get here so.... in for a penny?)
OR
Destroy her and create some kind of endless World Without Death authored by me, a guy who killed like 5 versions of the same girl to do it. (But it's okay because that Violence is washed away because Eldritch GF is cool with it and dgaf)
Like, okay, yeah, that's a big, weighty decision. But it's between two things that are INCREDIBLY abstract, intangible, and have very little to do with Slaying A Princess. Idk. Maybe there's a larger thematic parallel in that choice that I'm just not seeing/feeling it.
Anyway. Incredible game, one of the best to ever do Visual Novels. Loved the mechanics, character voices, and visuals. Incredible pacing and atmosphere. And even if I don't vibe with certain story elements. It is a Story told incredibly well.

how old do you think aylin is? i know there's no hints of her age in canon, so im looking to hear your headcannons >:)
Sticking exact numbers on things is something I am both reluctant to do and imo terrible at. And it's tricky here, especially when there is so much history (and sometimes from conflicting or vague sources) as the Forgotten Realms setting. And then, of course, there's the "newly created character" issue of how have we not heard of Aylin and her great deeds before? The in-game text treats her as famous and well-known (Jaheira's little line summoning her in the final battle is a fave of mine: "Dame Aylin - there are some here who don't yet fear your name!").
Tumblr media
But Dame Aylin's deeds are great; her presence - present.
I think I've mentioned how Aylin in general doesn't strike me as a particularly old immortal. Certainly not thousands of years, unless you want to have her around for ancient Netheril floating sky city times - which could be super fun! It's just not the vibe I get from her at all. I'd say give her a few hundred years, a middle aged to older elf range or thereabouts, enough to justify that messed up sense of time she has and the perspective she displays on outlasting everything; but mostly pick what edition changes Faerûnian cataclysms you want her to have been around for to give her something to do, because that's the fun part (she sadly missed some spicy ones due to her imprisonment).
A fave of mine to consider re: Aylin is always the Time of Troubles and Selûne's stint keeping a tavern in Waterdeep, of all things. A shame the timeline simply can't work out for Aylin to have been very young then - she'd literally be younger than Isobel (which, while it'd make for an amusing subversion, I don't think is the case).
Tumblr media
I just feel "Vajra Valmeyjar as Aylin's other mum" would rock, you know? Maybe she and Aylin were bouncers at Selûne's Smile together for a little while, at least.

LU Boys Headcanons
Hey! I have some headcanons that I'd like to share, and most of these will make, at the very least, brief appearances in my stories. Some of the boys have more than others, but oh well.
To start us off, we have Wind!
-He certainly looks small and sweet, but he's a terror when he's angry.
-He's super protective of those he claims as family.
-The wind reacts to his emotions and feelings without prompting. It has a mind of its own when it comes to its champion.
-His hair is bleached blonde from all of the time he spends out on the ocean (He despises the cap of the hero's clothes).
-He can dual wield! I feel like this would be very fitting for him (This has made an appearance in ATS as well :) ).
-Full name is Link Aalto (Aalto is wave of water in Finnish)
More under the cut!
Wild
-He's super good with animals. Small, large, feral, domesticated, anything really. He understands them to a certain extent, and they generally understand him as well.
Legend
-He's one of the more graceful ones in the group, but the most graceful.
-Doesn't really have an issue with Hylia, and is a fan of Din and Nayru (During the Oracle of Ages/Seasons, he made good friends with them both, imo).
Time
*shrugs* nothing yet
Hyrule
*shrugs* nothing yet here either
Twilight
-Country accent 100%. When they're in his Hyrule, it gets so crazy thick and the others tease him relentlessly about it.
-Loves pumpkins. As Ordons' main crop, he's a huge fan of all things pumpkin, and he and Sky trade recipes.
-Best friends with Dusk, evolved into a relationship.
-Loves to gossip with Warriors.
Four
-Speaks the same dialect of Hylian that Sky does (Ancient Hylian), so they tend to gravitate to each other when they get frustrated or overwhelmed.
-Has a bit of an accent compared to the others, but its nowhere near as prominent as Sky's.
Sky
-He's the most graceful in the group. His fighting looks very similar to dancing in the sense that its fluid and smooth.
-He dances with Fi. During his quest and once Sun was stuck in the crystal, Fi would occasionally force him to slow down and stop pushing himself so hard. They would dance together, Fi teaching Sky some of her favorite dances, and Sky teaching her Skyloftian dances in return. They both loved it.
-Sky hasn't danced since Fi returned to the Sword.
-Sky has a prominent accent. In my head, it sounds kind of like Fi when she speaks in-game, melodious, smooth, and ancient.
-His ears are very expressive. They move with his expressions. Skyloftians also have much better hearing than other Hylians. This comes from spending so much time on their Loftwings, and the necessity of hearing others flying with them, and needing to be aware of Skytails.
-Sky will startle and/or spook easily, but he doesn't get genuinely terrified very often at all. There's only a few things that will truly scare him.
-He's really good with anything with wings, and cats. Since Remlits don't exist outside of his era, this translates over to cats imo.
-Uses a lot of statistics and probabilities. This carries over from Fi, and he's aware that he does it, but tries not to most of the time (Sun thinks its adorable).
-His anger is quiet. He doesn't typically yell, but he gives off an entirely different vibe when he's angry. Depending on the situation, he can sometimes be quick to frustration, but he'd never take it out on anyone except himself.
-Speaking of, he feels like most things are his fault. Huge guilt complex. Sun and Groose hate that he feels this way, but despite their best efforts, he finds a way to blame himself for most things. :(
-He's a silent crier. He's always been on the quieter end, and he doesn't like to bother people when he's overwhelmed or upset.
-He's very light. I feel like most of Sky's 'bulk' comes from his layers. Living in the sky, the nights must be frigid, and the wind certainly doesn't do anything to help. So, he wears multiple layers, all Skyloftians do. I fee like Skyloftians might have a different bone structure than other Hylians, especially as the Loftwings carry them around, and can catch them out of freefall so easily.
Warriors
-Loves pumpkin soup. Had some when he was on Skyloft in the War of Eras, and has wanted more ever since.
-He knows Fi fairly well, having spent so much time with her during the war. He and Sky sometimes talk about her for hours at a time.
-Gossips with Twilight.
-He can understand a good deal of Ancient Hylian, but not as much or as well as Four can.
-He struggles on and off with speaking. Proxi hangs around him more often than not, and she'll help out when he needs it.
Good grief, I didn't realize how much typing this would be. But regardless, here you have it! Sky's got more than the others because I love him and I have a lot of Feelings about him. I know that Time and Hyrule have nothing, but I don't know their characters very well, so I just don't know what to think about them. Lol.
Have a good day!

I don’t know why but I feel like Luke has lost himself a little in the chaos of being the leading man, and the worldwide tour. I can only speak for myself but I have ADHD like me, and a lot of chaos going on around me sends me on a disruptive path.
This is pure speculation as obviously I don’t know, and never will, but it just feels like Colin’s storyline ie, having a glow up, and travelling has also become very like Luke’s. He knew he was going to be the lead, so started making changes - eating better and investing in a stylist. Along the way he splits up with a long time partner, and I can only speak for myself here, but I not too long ago split with my partner of 6 years, and I’ve needed drastic change in my life. Again this echos what’s been happening imo.
I can only compare, but I do remember seeing people going mad for Corey and India during the press run for Queen Charlotte. I do remember the former saying in an interview that he had a girlfriend, perhaps at the end of the run where he could say things? It just seemed then that he was putting firm boundaries and the speculation was becoming too much for him and India, I do remember comments of them looking distant and purposely standing apart, and the hate he received for bringing her along to a Netflix event in Brazil.
Luke and Nicola had six months of this, and no one will ever know what truly went on, but from the outside looking in it seemed that they were really supporting each other and getting on. This is where the speculation reaches fever pitch - they were very touchy feeling with each other, and would often hold hand. Luke sometimes even seeking Nic out and grabbing her hand to calm his nerves (he says he suffers with anxiety) it’s sweet that they can calm each other down. Nicola does seem like the more confident of the two. All this is happening whilst in the background he has a girlfriend, great. I wish them well, but it’s all sneaky. She attends some events low key - the New York premiere. I do wonder if he wants to be open, keep it private or he’s advised to by Netflix. I don’t think the streamer can actually make them keep them quiet? Corey being open about his relationship says not?
Now I don’t agree with the timing of the hard launch, that’s my problem and not his. I do agree with fans saying that the timing is not good, he could have waited and it gone down so much better. I do feel like it’s slightly disrespectful to Nic, who carried that promo tour imo. People vibed more with him than her. I sincerely hope it was his choice to go public, and it was not forced. I know she was in Milan with him, but it does feel strange that her Mum was with them; your daughter hasn’t seen her boyfriend for a while, and you tag along with them? Feels a little strange to me. Maybe that’s just me, and add in the unconfirmed rumours that the Mum liked fatshaming comments about Nic.
I’m certainly not one to hate on another women for simply being in a relationship, and I really don’t like that side of the fandom that has come out. Regardless, I hope that Luke (and Nicola) keep their feet on the ground, and have people around them who keep them on a healthy and productive path in life.
Thank you for your detailed message!
I do think that it would be hard to navigate the onslaught of fame that Luke would be going through, and some people are able to handle it better than others (Nicola being amazing at it). You can tell that Luke struggles with the fame and knowing what to do and what to say.
I do think he made some mistakes in regards to Antonia and how the whole thing transpired (which really kicked off on New Years). But I will give him a bit of grace since he may not have realized the impact his season of Bridgerton was going to have on people.
It is very funny all of the parallels that can be seen in regards to Colin and Luke, I really wonder if he has admitted that to himself or has even realized?
This may be a hot take, and while I enjoyed Queen Charlotte, I didn't love it. I also didn't follow any of the promotion in regards to Corey and India.
I have said it here before, but I never thought that Luke and Nicola were anything other than friends. You can clearly see the bond that they share, and I can understand why people thing they are more. While I thought their handholding was adorable and you can see the comfort that it gives Luke (and even Nicola), it never occurred to me that they were dating because of that.
I have been working for many years, and I have insanely close relationships with coworkers. Coworkers understand a part of you that nobody ever will! And then to top that off with them having to do intimacy scenes, I can understand why they share a bond (that nobody will probably understand).
The paparazzi pictures on the premier night were terribly timed. It wasn't a good look and I can understand some of the outrage. Then adding fuel to the fire with Milan. I guess they thought that since they were spotted once and it was out in the public, lets just lean into it. Definitely the wrong move!
But like I always say, who knows what is actually happening. I don't know any of these people, so anything is possible.

I've been in a fandom for quite some time now where there used to be a fan who was a professional body language expert. They taught us a lot about what to look for in photos like this and I have to say it's clear as day that M and AL can barely tolerate being near each other while M and D are exhibiting signs of strong physical and emotional closeness and attraction. Who knows what goes on in their lives behind closed doors but this is what we can see from all of these pics and videos.

Anna especially looks so uncomfortable. As a couple they never look quite right. The age difference for one looks too pronounced. Michael looks like her father! I know they have two daughters but I still really can't see them going the distance. Anna's dress is gorgeous, though, and she looks stunning. Their vibes are just so off though. I can only really say that here. In most SM places you get slaughtered for any Anna negativity. Same with Georgia!😳
@impalationship Oh, wow. That is very interesting, and I appreciate you sharing those observations about Michael and AL vs. Michael and David. I think many of us have wondered what a body language professional would have to say about their body language, and so I am wondering if this expert has ever shared anything about "tells" (i.e., small gestures or signs that give away what a person is truly feeling). If so, would you be able to share those/what sort of "tells" you think Michael and David are giving off? I know deciphering subtle body language cues has never been my forte, so your insights are certainly fascinating.
To your comment, @rainbowposes, I agree with you about the vibes between Michael and AL being off. I've said this previously, but for me it's never been about the age gap (although I find that the legitimitiate criticisms many of us have are decried and often chalked up solely to that). It's the "everything else" gap that is so noticeable, IMO. It's that Michael and AL have nothing in common except for the kids. It's that neither one of them "lights up" around the other, and that the normally ever-present twinkle in Michael's eye disappears when he is with her. I'm genuinely at a loss for how Anna in particular seems so uncomfortable holding her own boyfriend's hand and looks like she would rather be anywhere and doing anything else instead. I'm also floored at the disconnect happening with the fans on Twitter saying how happy they both look, as at this point it seems like willfully ignoring everything that is actually happening in those pictures.
I'm glad you felt comfortable sharing your thoughts here, though. Going by the sheer volume of comments on both of these posts, a lot of other people feel similarly. Truthfully, I've never seen this many comments of people speaking honestly about what they are seeing in the last four years. I'm not sure what exactly has caused the change, except that what's plainly obvious apparently can no longer be overlooked. So interesting...
