I love the Agatha Christie question!

Who are your HP/Twilight faves in the Christie universe? (Who’s the opportunist who knows too much and dies for it? Who’s the conman killer who courts the girl to avoid suspicion? Who’s just trying to take a holiday and gets caught-up in a murder? Who are the dynamic mystery-solving duo who realize they are in love by the end of the novel? etc.).

I mean, that is kind of what The Man Who Would Be King (and secret fic) (both cowritten with @theoriginalcarnivorousmuffin) have already become. We have our murder victim, Alphard, a very rich man with a colorful family, and possibly his sister, we have our unlikely detectives in Voldemort, Lily Potter, and Alphard himself. It may not be the center of the story but it's a large part of it.

In other words my answer for Harry Potter would somehow spoil all my present and future fics so I won't.

As for the Twilight version...

I vote we do it wealthy dysfunctional family style, it's most natural.

A patriarch is poisoned

Carlisle Cullen, a very wealthy man with powerful enemies, nonetheless dear to those around him and blessed with more friends than most, is found dead in his office one morning. Cause of death? Murder.

The police, caught on the detail that Dr. Cullen was a vampire and vampires are real, what the fuck is this on the doctor's autopsy table and is he going to wake up again and drink all our blood?, are little use in the investigation. Scotland Yard is soon brought in, and using Chief Swan's connections with the family they get a better picture of Dr. Cullen's life.

His family wasn't looking to inherit him anytime soon, as he was immortal. None of them were having money troubles however, all were independently wealthy.

He had made enemies of a thousand-year-old clan of powerful vampires, who on hearing that his murder is being investigated like this get very upset. Supposedly the victim lived with them in his youth (and inspector Craddock cries when he learns the timeline for this murder goes back to the 1600s. Are they going to have to bring historians in on this murder??), he might have known something

Oh what's that? The victim had a whole network of friends across the globe, who are all killers, and he knew everyone's secrets? ... do we have the budget to investigate this?

The victim was also living next to a tribe of magical shapeshifting wolves evolved specifically to kill his kind. They liked him best and had a line in their treaty that "he dies last". Not sure what to do with this information

Rosalie Hale missing person case from 1933 solved: Carlisle Cullen adopted her. Was she recognised, did someone piece it together, and was Carlisle killed in retribution?

The victim lived a fake life of fake papers. Could be important, except it's the most normal thing about this case.

The police wonder how this man didn't get murdered sooner, and are stretched so thin the investigation is going slowly.

So, Renesmee gets to be our plucky detective du jour, as she decides to see if she can help. Surely there is no harm in her poking around, and she's well liked around the vampire world so there might be answers she can get that human police can't, partly because policemen keep getting eaten.

She slowly narrows it down to the horrible realization that it was someone in the family, and she learns terrible things.

Jasper Hale wasn't Jasper Hale at all! He was a friend of Jasper's in the newborn army who wanted a new life, and who in the wake of Jasper's suden and unexpected death assumed his identity. He had Peter bite his entire face so he'd be scarred like Jasper had been, and vouch for this blond vampire most definitely being Jasper Hale. Peter later had to die because he Knew Too Much, and so did Charlotte, regrettably. Fake Jasper did however not kill Carlisle.

Edward seems a prime suspect, he is an angry and resentful young man who acts out. Everyone thinks he did it, and that Bella should certainly marry Jacob, the safer option. Much upheaval is had, however, once Renesmee is able to clear Edward's name and he meaningfully links arms with Bella. They sail off into the sunset with their inheritance.

Rosalie is a beautiful, cold, intimidating woman, the femme fatale sort who's surely conniving. It's a bit of a mystery why she married that poor fool Emmett, but it's clear to all she doesn't love him. No clear motive from her, other than the money she would inherit, but she's just so suspicious. Her alibi is ambiguous, she claims she was with Esme and Emmett but what if Esme and Emmett are lying to protect their daughter and wife? Superintendent Battle wonders about that.

Renesmee is at a loss.

And then she realizes that it's not Rosalie who acts like she doesn't love Emmett, it's Emmett who acts like he doesn't love her! And Esme's grieving widow act is just that, it's an act!

Renesmee realizes that Emmett and Esme are lovers, and killed Carlisle together. Esme committed it while Emmett tricked Rosalie into giving her an alibi. Renesmee realizes this once she has a "But Rosalie couldn't have seen Esme from that angle!" moment.

The plan was too pin Rosalie for the murder, see her hanged, and then in due time the mourning widowers would marry, happily entitled to all the money they couldn't have touched if they'd divorced. Also Rosalie was Catholic so she wouldn't have agreed to a divorce.

The two lovers are confronted, and Esme pulls out a tiny pearl-studded gun from her shoe, says "We tried, my love. I regret nothing" before shooting first Emmett, then herself.

Is Elijah Mikaelson a hypocrite?

I get this question a lot. Or more often than not, someone is yelling it at me because I insulted their fave. So I am going to try and answer this as unbiasedly as possible. But I do acknowledge that everyone is biased and has their own viewpoints, including me.

Elijah is one of the more complex characters in the TVDU because he has a lot of warring motivations. And in my opinion, people try to oversimplify his character and end up with the viewpoint that he is just a hypocrite.

We will start with his morals.

Elijah is called "noble" by a lot of different characters throughout the show. People often will say he is hypocritical for holding himself out as noble and then either breaking his word or doing something morally questionable. But, I first would like to point out that Elijah never once calls himself noble. When Davina says she's heard he is the noble one, he simply replies "That's what they call me." Because he does not view himself as noble. In fact, he holds himself out as a monster any time he talks about himself. He says this to Hayley early in season 1 of TO. He says this to Vincent when talking about protecting Hope. He says this to Detective Kinney when Kinney is under the influence of the Hollow. Elijah is very aware of who he is but he also is aware that his reputation can help people trust him. A reputation he has built. Characters who are completely unrelated call him noble. This is a reputation he has amongst the entire supernatural community. Likely because, in comparison to his siblings, he seems more noble simply because he does not indiscriminately kill as often as his siblings. I know people are probably ready to bring up the red door at this point and I've already done an analysis of that. Read that and come back. He is not a hypocrite here because he never pretends to be better than he is, he simply lets his reputation precede him and doesn't necessarily correct it.

The next argument is that he hides behind his suits. I do think there is some truth to it, but not because he is trying to pretend he is not a monster. But because it is his protection. Elijah wearing a suit is no different than Rebekah's glamorous outfits or Klaus' hennleys. None of them walk around covered in blood with a sign saying they are vampires. Elijah wearing a suit actually makes more sense than anything. He is a more old-fashioned character. Men in his class had been wearing suit-like outfits since around the 1600s and many elite men in today's society still wear suits on a regular basis. He has worn a suit for about half of his life. If you think someone is a good person because they are wearing a suit, we need to have a discussion. If someone trusts Elijah more simply because he is in a suit, they need to reevaluate how they interpret people. Some of the worst people I've ever met have been men in suits, don't use that as a way to read people.

The only argument I'm more willing to conceed in is that he can be hypocritical when it comes to his family at times. I like to blame the writers since in TVD we see him willing to kill Klaus because of the treatment of his siblings but then his character becomes more centered around Klaus throughout TO. But in light of trying to not be biased, we have to accept even the most annoying writing as canon.

Rebekah calls Elijah a hypocrite in season 1, but I don't agree with her assessment there. Elijah had asked her to stay her hand and not provoke a war with Klaus, while at the same time attempting to counsel Klaus into a peace agreement. Rebekah feels that he is being unfair because she is aware of his feelings for Hayley and she feels he is telling her she cannot pursue Marcel. However, that is not what he was telling her. He simply did not want her to side with Marcel over Klaus. Likewise, he was continuing to choose Klaus over Hayley by not acting on his feelings for Hayley. He was not asking her to do anything different than what he was prepared to do. He truly believed they should sacrifice for family and continued to do this throughout his life.

Elijah's moral code is more stern than his siblings but it is by no means a high moral standard. He does not bat an eye at murder but only counsels his siblings to do it discreetly to avoid gaining Mikael's attention. He is willing to kill those who would threaten his family without hesitation but does not seem to take pleasure in it. His morals seemed to be more focused on his word. He can be trusted to keep a deal unless that deal would harm his family. This is where we see his warring motivations. Elijah had every intention of keeping his words to Elena, even after she broke hers twice. But when it came down to finding his siblings or keeping his word, he would always choose his siblings.

This is the frustrating part for me. TVD showed him to be a character who truly did care for each of his siblings. As soon as he was able, he released all of them from their coffins. He was prepared to leave Klaus and run off with his siblings. He also appears less codependent on Klaus since he ends up leaving Mystic Falls without Klaus or Rebekah. He had lived for almost 100 years before that without his siblings, 13 of those years when he was still on good terms with Klaus.

In TVD, he had a more stringent moral code, however, as life gets more complicated in TO and even in flashbacks, we see him bending his morals in order to protect his siblings, mainly Klaus. Which is why we see him fine daggering Kol if it means he can continue to focus on guiding Klaus. But I also think Daniel Gillies does a great job showing his mixed emotions each time he has to act against his siblings.

He also seems to be more opposed to harming children than his siblings, stating in TO season 1 that he wouldn't feed from Davina calling her a child. In TVD, he doesn't seem interested in the war with teenagers Rebekah and Klaus were waging in Mystic Falls. But again, when his family was in danger, that went out the window.

To me, Elijah is not any more hypocritical than anyone else in the show. Meaning, yes there are some things he does that go against his moral code, but it is no more than most people would do. Most of the tension in the show is the war between what is right and what they want. Everyone is forced to make hard decisions. These decisions are what separate the 'bad' guys from the 'good' guys. Elijah may not always make the most moral decision, but when he does terrible things it is rooted in his desire to protect those he loves. No different than what any other person would do in his place.

The Amazing Digital Circus, as seen by a Murder Drones fan

("Candy Carrier Chaos" inspired me to write this. Fair warning, it's a long one. Potential spoilers ahead)

I stumbled into the indie animation scene on YouTube by accident. It was like finding hidden treasure. I have no hate for the big-name studios, but everything I'd been seeing up until then seemed...homogenized...over-processed, somehow? It's hard to describe. Like eating fast food when you want a home cooked meal.

Now here were stories that were all wonderfully different, in subject matter and style. I started with "Lackadaisy", which was so beautiful, it left me stunned.

(The only reason you don't see more Lackadaisy fanart from me is because it's difficult drawing cats. I'm practicing, though.)

A few more clicks brought me to "Murder Drones", and it was love at first sight.

I connected to Uzi's character within her first minutes on-screen. Despite the dark tone of the story, I still hold out hope for a good ending.

Then I started seeing teasers for a new series, "The Amazing Digital Circus".

The art style and bright colors weren't my usual speed, but I decided to check it out anyway.

Personal confession, "Digital Circus" scares me more than "Murder Drones". While "Murder Drones" wears its horror inspirations on its sleeve, to me, it's more the "cool" kind of horror that I would scribble on my notebooks between classes.

Vampires, monsters, battling the forces of darkness while jamming to nightcore, you get the idea.

I have legitimately had nightmares that look like the "Digital Circus". Strange worlds of twisted colors and shapes, people I don't know, doors and staircases that lead nowhere.

All that said, I did enjoy the pilot, I found the setup and the characters interesting, and wanted to see more.

Side note, I know the studio sometimes seems to favor "Digital Circus", and it causes some resentment between the fandoms.

For myself, I see our fandoms as siblings. Let us watch our faves (hopefully) triumph over the horrors together.

This brings me to "Candy Carrier Chaos".

It happened to debut on one of my bad days, when I was feeling down, to put it mildly.

Like I didn't matter. Like no one would notice or remember me if I were gone.

And so that opening scene of Pomni's nightmare hit me like a punch in the gut.

I won't go into the episode's plot too much, as I'm sure others here have already done that and better than I ever could. The whole reason I'm writing this is because of that ending.

The members of the Circus take the time and care to remember the friend they lost in the pilot, apparently the latest of many.

They all feel the pain of loss, of being trapped in this strange world. But they still have each other. For now, at least.

The look on Pomni's face when she realizes she's not alone. When her vision replays, it has changed.

Now, there are helping hands to take hold of her. To pull her back up out of the darkness.

I honestly became a little teary-eyed at that scene. It got me thinking, "maybe the bad days are liars. Maybe I would be missed, after all."

The power of storytelling through animation. With all my heart, I hope this medium continues to grow and flourish. To any aspiring animators and artists out there, this random Tumblr person asks, please don't give up the dream. There are people out there that need to hear your stories.

It might sound silly but I was looking at Nitara in MK1, especially the skins that give her angel wings and I found myself wondering if it was supposed to add anything lore wise or have some sort of symbolism.

Nitara with this skin is supposed to ressemble an angel, the very thing Ashrah ultimately wants to be (at least in the Midway timeline since MK1!Ashrah would be content just being human). Yet, Ashrah finds herself willing to slay Nitara, willing to slay something which ressembles an angel, something Ashrah aims to be.

I just thought it was interesting but I don't know, you probably had it figured out a while ago ajdenek. It also ties to your "Ashrah killing unicorns, which are beings of light" headcanon.

i love nitara’s gear a lot and have thought about it!!! i love the mechanical wings, the “fleshy” wings, and the feathered wings!!! (a personal fave of mine is her “hope of vaeternus” wings which look very grotesque in comparison to the non-grotesque word “hope”.)

the feathered wings look very pretty on nitara and they are an interesting contrast to what nitara is. i don’t think they suit her as like, her “canon” wings, but like you said: makes you wonder about possible lore and symbolism.

i have wondered about the expansion of the ashrah and nitara beef (obviously) and how it could end, and an idea that has come across me is that their rivalry ends with ashrah viewing nitara as her savior in some way. nitara knows how to destroy datusha, and as a result she also technically knows how to save ashrah from datusha. ashrah’s way of cleansing herself is not through the kriss, but instead through nitara saving her from the kriss. the bright lights that visited ashrah are not her angelic saviors, but instead a creature of dark is her savior.

like it’s a funny way of mocking ashrah: her, dressed in all white and following the words of a celestial voice, is worse than the winged woman born in darkness. nitara is absolutely no angel (she’s manipulative and doesn’t care for others unless they can aid her), but compared to what datusha did? nitara is the only being ashrah can truly call an angel.

nitara is trying to do something good for the sake of her home, and through nitara “freeing” ashrah from datusha (similar to a message from god like how datusha told ashrah her path is kill the vampires), ashrah attempts to seek a home and simply be good rather than the embodiment of purity.

also the unicorns hc… like it’s a very silly hc and it makes me chuckle but the idea that such a beautiful creature of light exists in the realm of darkness is so fascinating. on one hand i do think about ashrah killing ALL life on vaeternus like i tried to depict in my drawing, but i also think about her awe at seeing a unicorn and the immediate connection she’d have with them. it does also make me think about ashrah riding a unicorn into battle lol.

but on to a very quick lore headcanon i thought of: i think it’s be cute if during their wings sprouting out of them (another hc i have), younger moroi would also have feathers that eventually completely and permanently shed. also on a darker note, makes me wonder if ashrah killed children, and if she did the irony in her killing children whom are often regarded as “pure” but now also with the added hc of them having feathered (angel-like) wings.

so to sum this up: yeah, nitara in terms of comparison to ashrah’s attempt at becoming an angel, is much more of an angel than datusha.

also to bring up mk1(2) because i do think ashrah got the better end of characterization in the new era, i think if the story ever explored nitara and ashrah’s rivalry in depth (which they will not lol), it would be nice to see nitara openly mocking ashrah for having angel wings while attempting genocide on the vampires (which makes me wonder would ashrah want to abandon her wings while wanting to be human? becasue she appears to flaunt them on the occasion). of course ashrah would rebuke what nitara is saying cause she’s in full denial. besides, what’s the difference between a vampire’s wings and an angel’s wings? are they not the same? are they both not monsters of some kind?

I mean, do I even need to say it? Elena Gilbert. Constantly being burnt at the pire of internalized misogyny and media illiteracy. I maintain that not everyone has to like/stan Elena but if I could hear one justification for it that wasn't 'she hurt my favorite grown adult teenage baby boy' that would be nice.

but since that's the obvious answer I'll also add a slightly more controversial one which is Jennifer Humphrey, another unfortunate victim of the babygirlification of trash boy r*pists and some unfortunate writing. I will forever maintain that nothing she ever did was worse than anyone else on GG and she will forever deserve better, both on the show and in the fandom.

Also Bonnie and Kol or Klaus (I refuse to be silenced they would've slayed and if you disagree just dig down and ask yourself why that's so unthinkable if you have no problem shipping Elena or Caroline with them)

I'm in a bit of a buffyverse mood today so: any thoughts on the female characters of both Buffy and Angel? Like, who's your fave, who do you think was underrated, who were the lesbians, how big of a crush do you think Cordelia had on Buffy etc etc that type of thing.

Oh man!

Cordelia is so good on Angel. She was great on Buffy but on Angel she is amazing and I love her so much. I do not think she had a crush on Buffy, I actually think Cordelia is very heterosexual which as you know is rare for me!

Fred was my favorite when I was younger and I still love her and the end of her story destroyed me extremely hard.

Angel was unkind to its women pretty much across the board. I love the show for those characters and also for Angel himself because I like that he is basically just a cringe grampa instead of an edgy sexy vampire? But the show was very mean to them!

Buffy and Anya are my favorites on Buffy.

And I love Faith on both shows.

I loved Willow when I was young. But. I am going to put this next part under a cut because i think this is the only fandom opinion that has actually ended friendships for me 😬

Like I get that it was a very different time in the world and in terms of what we had as representation on tv (basically we just had willow and tara tbh!) but like... i find it very strange the way that relationship has endured as nostalgic/fondly remembered?

If Willow's season 6 storyline happened now she would be immediately recognized as a full on villain. Again i forgive us for the way we rooted for them at the time! But in hindsight?

Tara's backstory is basically being mind controlled and abused by her cult family, and then she gets mind controlled by Glory.

And then when she raises concerns to Willow about her overreaching with her magic, Willow erases her memory. Which is more mind control. She does the exact thing Tara was already upset about but this time aims it at her specifically for the purpose of controlling her, in the same way that she knows Tara has been abused in the past.

Under Your Spell is really hard to watch when you take into account that Tara cannot and would not consent to it if she knew at that point what Willow had done.

And then when Tara DOES find out and points out how fucked up it is, Willow just does it again!

And all this is contrasted with the actual villains of the season whose turn from silly villains into serious villains is when they mind control a girl so she would be agreeable and willing to have sex with them (which is what willow did!) and wind up killing her.

It is very hard to watch these two storylines happening in the same season and see Willow as a redeemable character or this relationship as one that should have survived. Poor Tara, man! She died for this shit???

Anyway. I hate this opinion! i want to love Willow! But I hate her! She's a terrible person! I cant look at Willow/Tara and feel good about it at all! Tara deserved better from the show but she also deserved better than Willow!

Totally agree on everything you said. Tbh I think Scott was a fun protagonist in the first season, I LOVED the fact that he was just a dumb teenager with only Allison on his mind, so much so that he didn't even realize he was screwing everyone over with his obsession for her. It was realistic, and one of the reasons why season 1 is my fave season (weird I know, but idk, this season makes me emotional).

Then there's Liam, and at the beginning I didn't like him, because he didn't really have a personality, but then around season 5 he started becoming so funny and his interactions with Theo were pure gold. I just didn't like Mason (it felt like he was there to fill the quota of black AND gay characters, but he was just so annoying, and his bf Corey too) and Hayden (let's not even talk about her, what was she even doing here when there was THEO). I feel like their attempt at making Liam the new Scott with Hayden being the new Allison, Mason the new Stiles, Corey the new Lydia and Theo the new Derek was a big failure, and Liam should have been on his own (or Mason could also have been there cause it felt good to see some diversity, but like he should've been way more flamboyant if that makes sense, cause in the show he just felt flat lol). So, Liam had a LOT of potential, especially with Theo and the Enemies to Lovers arc, and it was wasted stupidly. He deserved so much more space in the Movie like ughhh, he barely even talked! I don't even remember if he talked at all!! Plus I was SO looking forward to meeting Hikari, the kitsune, and SHE DIDN'T SAY A SINGLE WORD. She was just there to be Liam's girlfriend and replace Kira to save Scott with fox fire!! It makes me so angry

Also one character who could've been the protagonist in the Movie: Eli, Derek's son. You haven't seen the movie so idk if you'll agree with me but he's actually quite a cool character, like I genuinely appreciated him. He had some Stiles vibes and even dressed like him, which is hilarious considering Derek's relationship with Stiles, and he had Scott's 'pure of heart, dumb of ass' energy from season 1 which was pure gold. This movie could have been a next generation thing, and it would have been probably incredible and would have allowed to keep Teen Wolf's spirit intact, and like Scott, Derek, Malia, Lydia etc could've been the side characters who try to guide their teens through life etc, but they chose to do that shit instead.

About TVD: bruh, what even was season 8 lol. Damon just becoming a bad boy again and again and again because the fangirls like it is just plain ridiculous at some point. Like bro. Also how Enzo had so much potential and they chose to make him Bonnie's love interest and nothing else. I mean don't get me wrong I ship them, I'm glad they were together, but that's literally all he was and it pisses me off because the actor who plays him is way too talented to be reduced to just this position. And don't get me started on Alaric/Caroline (i'm literally gonna barf) and their twin daughters like wtf was that lmaoooo

This show should have stopped earlier, and Teen Wolf should never have had a movie if they were gonna do THAT. It's disrespectful to the fans, to the actors, to the nostalgia. About Supernatural, I have only seen seasons 1 and 2 very long ago and I just remember I stopped because it felt repetitive lol. So Idk how it held for 15 seasons when TVD season 8 already felt recycled lol

I find myself enjoying eclipse less than I did like 10 years ago. And I think it's for multiple reasons.

1. Edward turns up the dial on being terrible. 

Like by the end of Twilight, I wasn't his number 1 fan, but I could at least see how Bella fell for him - even with the red flags. I still wanted her to not but I could get it you know (I was a teen once after all)?

Then in Eclipse when he should be trying to prove himself after New Moon, he is... Breaking her truck, conspiring with his family to kidnap her and keep her away from her best friend? Being SEETHINGLY angry when she does shit without his permission, yelling and scaring his own family - and it's just like... Dear Lord. 

Then he's just doing a 180 and I'm like... Uh Bella? Don't trust that. Holy crap he showed a side of himself that all the love bombing in the WORLD won't make me unsee (and being older now, I cannot/will not overlook it as a reader). I don’t know if SMeyer wants us to overlook it and be like “oh look, Edward grows and changes!” but I sure as hell ain’t. 

If Bella left his ass by mid-book that’d be cool, but nah, she’s forgiving him because he’s “changed” (I don’t trust like that) and she refuses to listen to everyone telling her it’s not healthy.

2. Jacob starts great, and then has his own 180 ?!?! 

Like while Edward is being an asshat and kidnapping her, Jacob stages a jailbreak. He tells her things she needs to know (re Victoria. Even though it shouldn't be news...), and even tries to point out that Edward is controlling/abusive. It's easy to say "ah he just wants her to choose him" and yes obviously he does, but he isn't wrong when he points out needing your bf's permission to do anything is fucked. The first half of the book, I feel like it's leaning to her ultimately choosing Jacob because jfc the difference is staggering.

So we spend the first like 300 pages making Edward increasingly more villainous and Jacob seem like the better choice, and I’m cheering for her to dump Edward and go for Jacob, then, chapter 14 rolls around and Jacob undergoes a 180 where he becomes impatient in the truck and honking the horn, then forcefully kisses Bella and starts acting like a complete ass, even threatening suicide. What the fuck happened? Did Smeyer realize halfway through the book that maybe if she wanted to end the series with E/B that she shouldn't write Edward so awful and chose to compensate like this instead of reworking the first half of the book?!?! Like I’m reading this and wondering wtf happened? This doesn’t really feel like the Jacob from New Moon or the first half of eclipse to me.

3. Bella flipflopping on vampirism. 

On the one hand she wants to be a vampire, like now, and spend eternity with Edward (but not marry him because she doesn't want to get married at 18 - just vamped forever, apparently). 

On the other she has doubts and panics when she realizes how little time in her human life she has. She doesn’t know how to say goodbye, and she knows she’s going to miss so many people, especially her dad (though her mom, her former best friend, appears to have just dropped out of concern largely). 

Then when people see her fear and say she can wait she insists that it's totally what she wants, which screams to me that she really is rushing into it so she can't change her mind and that's... A TERRIBLE reason, Bella.

And all that "it's my choice" rubs me the wrong way now that I'm older because she's too damn young to make such a permanent choice (a fact she partially recognizes, but the obsession about not being older than Edward seems to cloud her judgement) AND when your choice negatively affects everyone around you (her family, friends, potential victims) it just doesn't fly with me. Like no, I don't respect your choice to commit self-harm/suicide and become a potential murdery-monster in a cult just to stay with your first love wtf?!?! I’m with Rosalie on this one - she’s so far my fave of the Cullens even if she’s on thin fucking ice with me for going along with shit like kidnapping. 

Reminds me of the Little mermaid and our collective reactions to Ariel’s “I’m 16 years old, I’m not a child”

Now... despite all of this, I can still rationalize it, I can still find a way to make it make sense in the context of the story - even if I personally don’t love them behaving this way.

I can understand Bella forgiving Edward and trying to make it work, she’s completely blinded by love (and in my mind, absolutely fucking under thrall or “dazzled” as she puts it), and she finds excuses for it. When Edward hears other people’s thoughts relating to how batshit insane he’s being, he probably starts lovebombing so she won’t run like the fucking wind. She, being young, naive and under thrall, doesn’t. I can rationalize it, even if I’d rather she start realizing the thrall/abuse and ditch his ass.

I can understand Jacob becoming a bit... desperate, and acting out. His best friend fucked off to Italy on a suicide mission to save her ex-bf who abandoned her in a very brutal way. That ex-bf and his family is directly responsible for him and all his friends shifting into wolves and needing to take all these night shifts looking out for Victoria and co., leaving them all sleep-deprived as they carry this burden they shouldn’t have to. That best friend then takes said ex-bf back, and has to sneak around to see him - but then gets kidnapped by said ex-bf and his family, calls him to tell him, and then he does a jail-break. Every time she comes to see him, she’s scared to go home and incur his wrath. She’s very clearly in an abusive relationship, but she won’t see it - no matter how many times you point it out, and there’s a matter of weeks before she literally kills herself and joins the cult that is responsible for all this shit. So I get it... I can understand how a 16 year old werewolf might go balls to the walls insane when he sees like 2 weeks left to stop this nuke - but that doesn’t excuse it. It doesn’t excuse it at all, and it’s just disappointing af to me, and leaves me wanting a redemption arc for this character who was such a cinnamon roll in New moon and who I was rooting for this whole time. 

I can understand Bella being unsure what she wants, and fear making her hammer down on a decision. She’s still in love/under thrall, and when the doubts start popping up, she just wants to quiet them, because the idea of not being with Edward is painful to her. I get it - I’ve been a teenager in love, I’ve excused shitty behaviour, I’ve thought to myself “yes I will totes spend forever with him”. Of course, the worst thing that I could have done is marry the dude, whereas in Bella’s case... the worst thing she can do is... much worse than that, and she doesn’t want to think about it, because it’s either Vampire with Edward, or no Edward, basically - at some point, they’d break up, and she can’t fathom it. If only she’d just wait until Thanksgiving after graduation... ah the famous Turkey Dump. 

Basically, the characters are all shitty to each other, and I don’t like seeing it, but I can still understand it. This time around, the fun of the newborn army and Victoria making a final stand isn’t as fun to me, because the books are really emotion/relationship driven more than plot-driven, so there’s so much characters being shitty to one another that it’s def making me enjoy it less than I used to. I think this was my fave of the series cuz of the plot - but now? Ehhh, I prefer New Moon. It still ultimately is “landing” for me in the sense that it makes sense, but... I’m not quite as excited to read this last half as I was the first half, or as excited as I was reading New Moon.

I’m also trying to figure out if it can reasonably end with Eclipse, because though I plan to re-read BD to give it an adult POV review, I remember hating BD, and I still hate the details of BD so I imagine it’s gonna be torture for me lol. If Eclipse ends on a note where I could reasonably headcanon/fanfic the ending I’d prefer*, then I’ll be happy enough with it.

So far, Twilight got 4/5 for me, New Moon 4.5/5, and Eclipse I’ll prob give... uhhh... 4? Maybe 3.5? I guess we’ll see how the rest goes. BD I can’t see me giving a passing grade but who knows. 

*The ending I prefer will be the subject of another post after I finish Eclipse.

Honestly it's been extremely disappointing seeing authors that I followed and supported go and trash mishka. And its extremely hard to listen to you guys preach kindness and support towards IF authors and then see you guys do the exact opposite. And for what? Because of racial stereotypes? Which ones? When she called one of her characters "animalistic" (which she apologized for)? That had more to do with her being a vampire rather than her race so I really hope that isn't what you guys are talking about. Or is it because you feel she hasn't properly researched? If that's the case, I can name 5+ IF books that definitely need to do more research so I hope you're out here "criticizing" them too and not just targeting mishka because of her bigger platform. If you truly feel this why not reach out to mishka and let her know "hey there's a couple questionable things in your story that I think you should fix" you know like a fellow supportive if author should do? Instead of basing on her on your account?And I know this will have some people pissed, but oh well, race and sexuality has very little to do with it and this is coming from a bisexual poc. When finding a new story most people know nothing about the author, let alone their race and sexuality, so the authors that I've seen discrediting mishka and insinuating that her success is due to the fact that she's white and cis are not only straight up assholes but are also completely false. Its become abundantly clear this week that the readers aren't the only reason for this community's toxicity. What makes it more sad is that I started following a lot of you a while ago and totally planned to support you guys once your stories were finished, all this drama sort of just left a sour taste in my mouth. I completely understand some of twc fans are being horrible to you guys and I'm sorry for that but that's doesn't call for you all to shit on mishka and her writing. We all just need to do better

yes people are going to be harsher to mishka because she has a huge fucking platform and is making insane amounts of money. of course we should criticize other authors as well and everyone knows that i have! but again there is a huge fucking imbalance here comparing some authors to someone like mishka, who very rarely actually has to take accountability, because again - she has a massive platform, swaths of fans that act as an echo chamber, and people like you running to send annoying ass messages to anyone who so much as breathes in her direction. this is the fucking problem.

Haha, please don’t worry! 😂😂😂 I’ve often wondered about the very same thing, and while I don’t have any canon answers, I can offer the most likely scenario from my understanding of the game. Hope you’re doing well too, lovely, thank you! Stay safe out there~💛💛💛

Given what I know, and the fact that blood is only a small component of the discharge that comes with one’s period, I’d wager it poses a low risk generally speaking. I think the plan would be to make sure everyone’s on guard and has been keeping up with their usual doses of Blanc/Rouge (no waiting until you starve, Jeanne, yes that is a threat) but otherwise everyone proceeds as they normally would. I think it would be hardest on the vamps who are most sensitive to the presence of blood/have a harder time controlling their thirst, like Isaac and Arthur. 

Purebloods have been canonically established as having a much lower tendency to bloodlust by comparison to lesser/turned vampires, so I very much doubt Comte or Leonardo would react much. A blip on the screen for them, nothing more. (I often categorize Jeanne as the closest to pureblood level reactivity because his ability to control the thirst is exceptional; the only time he has ever come close to attacking MC was when he was at a point of intense starvation.) I think the only time her period could potentially become risky is if one of them was starving (and therefore reacting on the level of base instinct) or grievously injured. If they have feelings for her or she’s in a relationship with one of them, it may make them want to bite her more, but I don’t think they’d necessarily act on it. I’d assume most of them would be reluctant because MC is already losing blood as it is? Better to be safe than sorry, and all that.

As for whether or not they can anticipate it, I’m really not sure? It’s possible they might sense hormonal changes, but given I haven’t seen them react to anything so slight I can’t be sure. Purebloods I’d say it’s a coin toss; it’s very possible they can sense it before it comes--but I just have no way of knowing for sure. Lesser vampires, I very much doubt it. 

That being said, you bring up a very timely contention (for me) as of late. Which is to say: what are purebloods capable of sensing? I’ll be elaborating on a recent JPN collection story event that included Comte, as it had a very interesting tidbit that I’d like to share with y’all. It isn’t a huge spoiler as I’ll be focusing on the pureblood lore that was included, but for those who don’t want to see it I’ll be placing it under a cut. (Also some slight spoilers for Comte and Leo’s main story rt).

Mandatory spoiler warning:

So this last event featured MC and her suitor taking care of a child for a few days, in which they act like a pair of surrogate parents. Naturally, being a feral Comte stan, I got his story. In it, both he and MC are taking care of a young girl named Emma--the daughter of a fellow aristocrat (a friend of his). At some point during the story, MC accidentally loses sight of Emma while hanging up the laundry. MC searches the entire mansion but can’t find her anywhere, and she begins to panic when Comte encounters her. Alarmed, he gently asks her what’s wrong and she explains what happened. There’s a brief pause [”...”] and then he says “It’s okay, MC. Emma is–”. Comte then leads her to the gazebo where the little tyke is fast asleep, taking a midday nap in the shade. Naturally MC is relieved to see her safe, but also a little baffled as Comte led her directly to Emma. 

MC: “I’m so glad she’s okay. But…how did you know she’d be here?”

Comte: “Purebloods are good at sensing/detecting nearby human beings.”

And I ????? Granted it’s possible it got translated incorrectly but...I really don’t understand how else he would have known exactly where she was? If MC asked around and searched the entire place and still couldn’t find any trace of her, how would Comte have just known in an instant? Additionally, if he spotted her before he found MC panicking, then I doubt he would have just left her there without an adult/guardian nearby--he would have either stayed there or taken her with him. 

So this makes it plenty plausible that he really did just sense her presence in the vicinity. But........like..........howmst in the fuck. Is that even possible. I have no idea, but I find it a little shocking that I’ve only discovered this now? I mean maybe I missed it somewhere else where this tidbit of lore came up, but as far as I know they don’t discuss it much? The most I remember is Comte giving very clear indications that purebloods were able to sense each other, but I assumed that was restricted to purebloods only...

That being said I’ve been thinking about it and, well, there are at least three pretty strong instances in the game that could affirm his claim in this story. Namely: the beginning of the story itself (Comte’s POV of the prologue), the kidnapping incident in Comte’s main story, and the beginning of Leonardo’s main story.

I remember @a-maidens-dream asking about something very interesting in Comte’s POV story, and at the time I was a little unsure what to do with the information--it wasn’t aligning in a way that made sense. But I think this might help that tidbit fall into place? I think that Comte really hadn’t realized she followed him into the door until she was already in the mansion, and as such this ability to sense humans would explain why he knew she was there before Napoleon even told him anything. If purebloods can sense human people, then he would know a human being entered the house because of the species signature; the only human person living there otherwise was Sebastian. I’m not sure if the sixth sense is acute enough for him to be able to differentiate between human people. (My guess is that it’s not that specific, or if it is, the pureblood has to know the person very well to be sure.)

Building on that, this is a subtle distinction, but it still stood out for me. In his main story route, both MC and a fellow aristocrat (a woman she was friends with) are taken to these small cabin things in the middle of the woods. All Comte, Napoleon, and Jeanne have to go on is the general location of these hideouts. They decide to split up; Comte goes one way, Napoleon and Jeanne go another. I find this instance particularly interesting because Comte’s POV indicates a kind of loss of rational thought--he is 100% in a panic state, just moving to satisfy one objective: save MC before time runs out. This suggests that Comte very much could have been relying on that sense to pinpoint her and her assailants. We have no evidence to believe he was ever a soldier or somebody with extensive experience in tracking--or that knew the landscape well. But he only trusts she’s alive and unharmed for sure when he has her in his arms again, suggesting either that this sixth sense has its limits (in regards to specificity of the person being detected) or that his judgement in that moment was too compromised for it to be clear.

The last one, and perhaps the funniest possibility of the three, lies in the beginning of Leonardo’s main story route. Iirc, Leonardo spends much of that time hauling MC around the mansion to interact and properly situate herself in the mansion’s social dynamic. While this may just be a coincidence, MC notes that she actively tried to hide from him and make herself scarce, but whenever she tried no amount of stealth worked. One can certainly argue he just paid attention or asked other residents about where she was, but I do think it’s worth considering? I need to re-look at the chapters, but I seem to recall her trying to hide in a garden shed and he still found her immediately and just picked her up and walked right back out. 

Tl;dr: So does this mean Comte/Leo can sense when MC is on her period? I have no idea, but at this point I really can’t be sure what abilities they do and don’t have!

Literally no one else on this show has looked in pain when being siphoned except for when Lizzie purposefully desiccated MG, so where is this coming from??? Writers, can we please have some consistency

Final Thoughts:

I more or less liked this episode, although I think the season 1 and season 2 premieres were stronger. This one definitely beats out season 3′s premiere tho, which is a fairer comparison since both these episodes weren’t meant to be season premieres at all

I loved Landon in this episode. The boy makes me so sad. And Aria as Malivore is still EVERYTHING. But I am SO mad that Kaleb and Ric don’t immediately say that they won’t let Landon sacrifice himself??? Was Raf really the only person besides hope who actually cared about Landon???

I hope Cleo gets her own plot line this season now that her “surprise, I’m the villain” plot line is over. I’d hate to see her just be used as a plot device for “inspiration”

And while I just did praise Aria as Malivore and I do think Malivore is now a stronger villain that he was before, I do kind of think his reason for keeping Cleo prisoner is just. So goofy. When witches were kept for their powers by antagonists in TVD and TO, it was because it gave the antagonist an edge with like prophecies or magical skill. Malivore’s keeping Cleo around in hope she’ll give him a good idea LMFAO

The turning point for Finsie’s story in this episode was so cheesy and badly done. But in the end, I do like how they tied this back to Josie being scared Finch would get overwhelmed with the knowledge that Josie and Lizzie would have to do the Merge and leave her like Penelope did

Really really hated whatever point the writers were trying to get across with Hope this episode. They’re really going to continue to shame her for her reaction to Landon dying in her arms after they had sex for the first time. They have Hope come to this “realization” that she purposefully puts other peoples lives at risk for Landon when that was never the case. She saved MG even after he killed Landon (because she was never like that, even then she understood what was right, it was her who got Raf to see understand it too), she chose to kill herself for everyone (not just Landon) instead of letting someone else get hurt, she chose the Saltzmans over Landon (choosing to let him die) and only lucked out bc Dorian found a loophole with the compulsion. And I’ll say it again, 3x08 was not Hope trying to kill the twins to get Landon back. She was reckless, she was arrogant, she was stupid for thinking the monsters wouldn’t be a threat, but it was the dark magic that literally no one remembered too that was actually dangerous to the twins. And I hate that the crux of this story in 4x01 is Hope and MG back in that memory and Hope having to choose between letting MG die or being with Landon, and that the writers actually have her consider it. In the memory that they’re in, Hope saves MG! That’s what happened! No hesitation! It was Raf who wanted to hurt him, it was Kaleb who doubted she would do it (btw, there’s Plec’s insidious racism again). And let’s not forget that the “feud” between Hope and MG wasn’t even about Hope choosing between the two. It was started bc MG hid the ascendant and decided to let Landon rot in the prison world. It makes me so frustrated everyone except Hope has given up on saving Landon and that the writers don’t ever make that out to be a bad thing and instead make Hope look inconsiderate and selfish for not wanting to let Landon die!

A/N: To be honest I only watched the first season of ‘The Originals’ - Klaus my fave, but i’m kinda basing this around only my knowledge from the first season and a little bit of the second season xxx

A/N/N: Okay so this request just said Klaus, and as I was about to type in the tags…The only Klaus I saw was Klaus Hargreeves… so I’mma do 2…

You and Nik had been together for years, so many in fact that hat you have lost count but to give an example of how long, you were born the same year the Miklesons had been turned.

For some reason, Klaus kept your relationship a secret, he told his family, and you all spoke to often with one another even when one avoided the other, but other than that nobody knew. You guessed it was because he wanted to keep you safe since he's been making enemies from the day he was born.

Since you had been with Klaus for so long, there were a few things that you had become desensitised to, slight torture, killing etc. - you were a vampire, yes, but you never killed anybody - There was one thing that you could never get over, Klaus cheating.

You had caught them, Klaus and this girl, one night and you had left there and then, cut all ties with him. Elijah and Rebekah had been there to pick up the pieces of your broken heart, and you promised yourself that you would never be tricked by Klaus again.

Eventually, Nik found you and begged for you to come back to him, be his again, he slowly got you to doubt yourself and your options using that silver tongue of his. He would so easily manipulate those thoughts and memories that you had made, and you ended up taking him back after 20 years of him giving you gifts every other day.

It's easy to say you loved Klaus with everything you had, and you used all the patience you had with him too.

You had both decided to take a business trip to Paris while Klaus had been lead to somewhere in America, you said your "goodbyes and See you soon" and headed off in your different directions. It was easier to be separated for such a short period of time when you've lived several hundred years; it isn't ideal to be away from the person you love. Still, it's more manageable for the lifeless vampires that live on throughout time.

Throughout your trip you had been excited for it to end, despite enjoying it so much, to be able to see Klaus again, it was one of those trips for Klaus were he was so busy and so caught up down the rabbit hole that he couldn't message, so this whole trip there's was barely anything from him, or his siblings who accompanied him to Mystic Falls, somewhere with a lot of vampire action that apparently was not going under the radar.

The last day of your trip you receive a text, a sentence which you had read multiple times from Klaus before, although this time it was from an unrecognisable number - "Meet me in New Orleans, we have much to discuss."

On your way to a place you had once fled, and when you did, it had broken your heart, you only hope it goes better this time.

You walk through the large house that you once called home, admiring the decor that you remember as you move through the house.

You can hear talking through the house and can pinpoint that it is coming from the office - Klaus' voice is coming from Klaus' office.

As you make your way to your love, happiness fades, and sorrow hits you like a train as you overhear what Klaus and his siblings are talking about.

"She's having your child, Nicklaus, you need to do something to protect her and the child."

"Really Nik? you had to have a rebound, from Caroline, who -"

"Don't you ever mention her name to me again!"

Now here you are, standing in the corridor refusing to breathe as you were listening in to Klause and Elijah as they spoke about how it was possible for Klaus to bear a child.

A woman, with a hand over her stomach protectively despite her even showing, walked up to you. She could see the sadness in your eyes as she asked you if you were okay and introduced herself as Haley.

Haley, you had learnt a moment earlier was the woman who was having Klaus' child... So this was her, not only that but there was two of them: Haley and a Caroline.

Haley looked at you with slight concern, that innocent girl- you could have killed her there and then and end it all - but no, you were never evil, maybe a little desensitised.

You boss and begin to walk away only for you to hear the door of the old house creak open.

"Y/N?" Klaus, the person you had dedicated most of your life to loving unconditionally, asks as if you weren't even invited to the party.

You turn, holding your feelings down but refusing to flick that switch, the switch that is just there - just beginning for the rage that has been waiting to be unleashed for decades.

"Oh sorry, am I interrupting you and your family matters?" You reply with a snark.

"It's dangerous, you being here."

"Yeah, I was just leaving."

"Is that all you have to say? You know I committed infidelity and you don't have anything else to say? Do you even care anymore? There's nothing left for you to say... After all this time?" Klaus says, trying to get a rise in you or seeing how far he can push you before you break.

"...The mother of your child...she's lovely," you say before you walk away. You left that house and that family; you would more than likely see Rebekah and Elijah again but never Klaus. You promised yourself you would never cry over that man again.
