Y’all’s behavior and attitude towards boycotting in support of an entire race of people going through literal genocide is actually very weird and I’m wishing the worst on you if you can’t put down a 10$ coffee or a random McDonald’s order to show the barest form of solidarity

not saying we should behave all cultish and abusive like the trans movement but maybe we women need to be as aggressive as TRAs are in pushing our ideas and getting radical feminist theory out there.
i see a lot of posts encouraging women to partake in some form of organising irl, saying essentially you know, don't just be a tumblr blog. and i do agree. but i think it's important to remember that the modern trans movement spread across the world bc of social media. that what began on social media is now shaping real-world politics. "trans women are women" is no longer just a slogan passed around on the internet, in some countries it's now law. let's not underestimate the influence of social media, let's use it to our advantage.

PJO, Disney, and Palestine
I'm seeing some nonsense in the PJO fandom rn about how to support Palestine. And, though I'm by no means an expert, I am super super done seeing all the nastiness and bad takes. So I'm gonna try to clear up some confusion.
Long post ahead, bear with me <3
First, let me be real clear: Free Palestine.
I'm not getting into it more than that. You either know already or should know about the ongoing genocide. If you don't know, there are plenty of resources available.
Obviously, we should all be doing everything we can to support Palestine. There are lots of ways to do this. One of those ways is to observe boycotts called for by the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement.
BDS has a policy on Disney. But it does not mean what most of this fandom thinks it means.
Here is the official list of BDS targets as of three days ago (1/17/24):
Tumblr media
(source)
You'll notice there are four types of targets. Let's go.
1.) Consumer boycott targets
This is the category most people think of. BDS has asked for a total consumer boycott of these brands. In other words: do not buy from these brands.
Tumblr media
[List from image: AXA, Puma, HP, Chevron, Ahava, Carrefour, Caltex, Siemens, RE/MAX, Texaco, SodaStream]
Worth noting: Sabra hummus is also a major part of this list. Not sure why it was left out of the graphic.
Here is more info from BDS about the reasoning for these choices. You'll notice that Disney is not in this target category. Let's move on.
2.) Divestment and exclusion targets
This category is about pressuring governments and institutions to end their dealings with these brands on a large scale.
It's really important to note that BDS is not asking consumers to boycott this category. The best way we can support is to put pressure on our institutions (e.g. local governments, universities).
Obviously, if you personally want to stop buying from these brands, you can! But that is not the ask from BDS right now. That is your personal choice.
Tumblr media
[List from image: Elbit Systems, Intel, Chevron, CAF, Barclays, JCB, CAT (Caterpillar Inc.), Volvo, TKH Security, HD Hyundai, Hikvision]
Still don't see Disney, right? Moving on.
3.) Pressure targets
And here we have arrived!
✨✨ This category includes Disney. ✨✨
BDS is asking us to conduct pressure campaigns against these targets.
This can include boycotting ("when reasonable alternatives exist")! It can also include:
lobbying (sending letters, emails, petitions...)
peaceful disruptions (nonviolent direct action, protests)
social media pressure ("hey followers, go sign this petition! go call this number!" "@ slimy corporation, why do you support genocide?")
Tumblr media
[List from image: Google, Amazon, Booking.com, Teva, Expedia, AirBnB, Disney]
Again, if you personally want to boycott these brands, go ahead! That is a valid and worthwhile choice that you can make. It's worth noting though that boycotting does not mean just pirating a show on a different platform.
Boycotting is about ending our support as consumers completely.
That means ending subscriptions, canceling accounts. It also means not consuming any products from these companies or their subsidiaries. For Disney that includes Marvel, ABC, ESPN, Pixar, National Geographic, and literally a billion others. For Google, it's not just the search engine but things like Google Docs and YouTube.
As you can imagine, a complete consumer boycott of these brands would be complicated. That is why, strategically, BDS is not asking for that at this time.
It is imperative that the movement to free Palestine is strategic and organized.
The BDS movement has been doing this work for a long time. Following their lead is a good idea. Directing our energy into the actions they recommend is efficient and vital.
I've seen a lot of people in this fandom saying to boycott Disney as if it's a top priority, or even harassing others for continuing to engage with Disney content. That is nonsense and unhelpful.
There is too much to do, urgently, for us to waste time.
That said, let's briefly go over the last category:
4.) Organic boycott targets
These are boycott campaigns that developed independently. While BDS is not diverting official energy towards fighting these brands, it does support the public in that fight.
In other words, don't buy from these brands.
Tumblr media
[List from image: McDonald's, Domino's Pizza, Papa John's Pizza, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Wix]
Not listed but worth noting: people are also boycotting Starbucks
In conclusion,
Tumblr media
This? Still true.
Just be strategic and informed about it. And don't be an asshole. There is too much work still to do.
[Also, before someone gets on my case about Rick Riordan, I made a whole separate post about it here.]

a boye whom'st loves to attack paper balls
#cats#nhgnhmmm.. yommy... paper favorite food#(I do not actually let him eat paper)#ALSO I'm still working on doing the poll adventure thing I've just had a lot going on. as usual. It's actually harder than#I initially thought to regularly find time to do a quick ms paint sketch and a small writing blurb#it's like even though it doesn't take extremely long it's still one of those things that is hard to carve out a little portion of the day#to do if your day is set up in a way not conducive to portion carving#BUT .. at least I have posted many drafts#as usual.. my style of like.. post nothing for 3 weeks then randomly post 25 things at once#NO idea why my brain works that way. it just does. it's easier#even though I know it's worse in terms of like. social media#the algorithms in most places prefer consistent steady uploads over time. not jarringly wavering between absence and hyper presence#then absence again. but .. alas...#Good to clear out a few drafts once in a while anyway. And I do really want to get back to scullptures and costumes. I stopped as much for#a while due to the pandemic (can't go to the bins anymore to get new supplies for costumes and stuff) as well as my worsened#health things/lack of energy and also my chest injury (so repetitive movements with my arms such as sitting in the same#position sculpting for 4 hours or changing clothes multiple times in quick succession etc. could flare it up) but obviously#none of those things are going to get better any time soon. so I should probably just try to do it here and there anyway. It's still not#safe to go to the bins. still having muscle problems. still low energy. But I could make it work maybe. I just feel bad having gotten out#of the habit when it is really fun stuff that I enjoy. Some things just get more difficult for me over time#But even like 3 sculptures and 10 costumes a year is better than 0 of any of those things. So. eh#I'm also just trying to clear out pictures still. My spring cleaning (which I do at the start of every new year instead of actual spring)#was kind of delayed this year due to me feeling sick and everything so even late into april I'm still working on the side at like orgnazing#all of the files on my computer. deleting things and backing up whatever I want to keep. clearing out photos.#editing and drafting (and maybe one day posting) old stuff form a while ago. etc. etc.#So any progress is good progress. I suppose.#ANYWAY.... a son... he gets very excited everytime he hears anyone anywhere crinkle up a piece of paper

If your sole contribution to leftism is sitting and sniping at people on twitter, then please consider the need to actually get organised- you might not fully agree with the aims of your trade union, but you’ll achieve far more as a rep or involved in some way than sitting on the sidelines.
Find an organisation to join, start making contact with other leftists in real life- sitting and saying “well this doesn’t go far enough, we need a general strike or a revolution now”, you’re correct, but it achieves nothing.
If your workplace already has a rep, ask your rep what you can do to help, volunteer to be a co-rep or a health and safety rep or similar- any good rep will appreciate this. In this sort of role, you can make a real, material difference to the lives of your colleagues. And you’re going to say “but we need revolution, not reform” but this is not the point- by showing your colleagues that collective action works, they will be more confident joining in with national actions, and advocating for themselves in the future.
Equally, by finding people in real life to organise with, outside of work, the actions you take part in aren’t necessarily the important thing. The connections you build are. Encouraging others to join the movement is. Very few people are solely persuaded by negativity, especially online- so start building your positive case to share with others within your community or with shared class interests.
What this is to say is it’s very easy to say the TUC’s campaign is too weak and they should be doing more (whilst you, yourself do nothing) but I do think a lot of unions are very good at building slow engagement- if the TUC called for a general strike tomorrow, then I don’t think it would happen. But if they slowly build a movement over the winter...
I don’t know that’s their aim, to be clear but I hope it is.
Over the last year, being a rep, I’ve seen a lot more of the inner workings of my union- I used to criticise them a lot in the past, and there are still many areas I disagree with them on but I do agree it’s better to play the long game and get a win, than to rush into things and fail to achieve anything.
Anyway, some things to think about, maybe?
