Okay, music albums? WE'RE HERE FOR THIS QUESTION. So, officially, the Archives of Iacon don't currently have any physical music albums (though our ghost-turned-recently-appointed-intern Soun[???] makes some funky beats on our data terminals when we near deadlines, soooo...? ((Don’t ask why we made him an intern, it's a long story and we JUST unzipped the replacement files.)))

BUT!! Here’s the important part!! Us here at the C.O.G.S. team have been actively advocating for a wider variety of materials to be preserved in the Archives.

We’re serious about it!! In addition to all the usual records, we’ve been pushing to include things like creative writing, poetry, visual art, and, OF COURSE, music! We’ve seen firsthand how all of these forms of expression shape culture and history. While pending approval for that kind of project, we're working with local stations and collectors (a special thank you to our mech-on-the-inside, Jazz) to set up an unofficial server to host that kind of preservation. 🎨🎶

So yes, while we may have our moments of, let’s say, “slackery” (don’t tell the senior archivists), our passion for preservation is real. We’re all in when it comes to keeping the full spectrum of Cybertronian (and human!) expression intact for future generations. After all, the preservation of knowledge and culture doesn’t just stop at dusty old data-pads, right?

ALSO! We TOTALLY get the brain freeze that happens when you’re thinking of questions to ask, but we love them all! Don’t worry if they pop in your head later on! Just shoot them our way when you feel ready. We're an open (and sometimes weird) channel for all your inquiries, big or small. 🫶✨

Aaaanddddd that’s about where things kinda fall apart in the beginning of the story. Because I don’t think I’m having her join a “Hero Institution” or whatever at the beginning now. People with special abilities are special, but they’ve also been around forever, so they’re kinda normal, and having some whole fancy thing to themselves is kinda weird, you know? Some are starting to gain traction, but many do vigilante-ish justice or go about a normal life with some extra abilities as they have for centuries.

At some point early on, Khulan meets Ian. Who I have to rethink his entire story because man his power sucks and and also doesn’t make sense anymore, their hero name was terrible, his design is awful, but I love him. I will. Redesign xem at. Some point.

There is more that doesn’t relate to her but as for a bit more about her, she struggles with what to do about her abilities, gets caught up in superpowered fights, goes through agonizing trauma, and has adventures yayy yippeee

explain to me how bakugo is traumatized. the kid he grew up with was nice to him once and he immediately came to the conclusion that he should die. that's not trauma, that's being insane.

I'm going to start with the fact that, justifiably, there's never a reason to tell someone to kill themselves. Additionally, note that me saying Bakugo is traumatized does not mean that Midoriya is also not traumatized.

Regarding your question, the trauma that I mentioned on a recent ask, (I assume this one prompted your question) referenced the following:

Captured by the Slime Villain, effectively bound and suffocated in front of an audience (doesn't include the fall out after being someone who is publicly assaulted)

Muzzled, bound and robbed of autonomy in front of a national audience at the Sports Festival

Kidnapped and bound by the LOV (the forcible binding is recurrent through all the above)

Don't really have to go into the swath of issues he and Class 1A likely can and do develop from being child pawns in a war of adults but that can be applied as well re: survivor's guilt, PTSD, paranoia from the mole, etc. from the PLF arc and up until current manga events (I didn't feel like a spoiler warning).

Things that people don't tend to capture in the box of Bakugo's characterization:

He comes from a verbally and physically abusive household, demonstrably (you can jump down to the second paragraph of Bakugo's Strengths listed here for my thoughts on that impact)

Forced to defend himself against older kids from a young age and possibly on a recurring basis, as referenced in the above image. We could probably chalk the confrontation up to a consequence of his false overconfidence, sure. But does that justify 4th graders ganging up on what looks like a kindergartener/first grader?

As for Bakugo and Midoriya's relationship, we don't have much to go on. We know they were close and amicable as kids, things likely went to shit when Midoriya didn't develop a quirk, there's some beetle excursion in the woods that Bakugo refers back to a lot which is pending further context for readers/viewers, and then there's a fall in the river which really soured relations as Bakugo misinterpreted genuine kindness for condescension (see home life and such above). Again, none of this justifies the bullying we see at the start of the series or the way their interactions have shocking physical components. But what I do find interesting is that I've previously likened Bakugo's disposition to Endeavors but, in retrospect, I think he's a strong parallel for Dabi too.

Dabi's rage stems from being robbed of what he thinks is his inalienable birthright as the oldest son and heir to Endeavor's legacy. He disproportionately targets Shouto as the usurper of what is rightfully his. Dabi's claim, of course, makes more sense from a traditional and, probably, cultural standpoint. But the reason I mention it is that I don't think Bakugo was constantly telling Midoriya to take a swan dive off a roof. It doesn't forgive the bullying but it contextualizes why, that day, the bullying reached a new height when Midoriya was outed for still trying to get into UA. Bakugo saw this as an immediate threat to his position because, even though he didn't admit it at the time, if anyone could get into UA, quirkless or not, Bakugo knew Midoriya could.

Just as Midoriya has always seen Bakugo as being heroic and capable of being number 1, Midoriya proves time and time again that, even without a quirk, he's got the spirit of a hero and is successful in spaces where Bakugo is not. As the story progresses, we see evidence and the ultimate manifestation of Bakugo's remorse through his apology and other ways he's softened up. I'm not saying he wasn't a little shit but that's also not all he was (IDK if you've met kids but... without healthy socialization they can be little emotional terrorists). As things have unfolded, we see that, internally, Bakugo uses thoughts of Midoriya to galvanize his path forward and we've recently confirmed that when Bakugo spoke to Kirishima about strength... he was referring to Midoriya, you can scroll down to paragraphs around the last picture. I'm just gleeful about calling it. But, suffice it to say they've both been looking to one another this whole time.

There are still periphery pieces of their background missing because the story is largely from Midoriya's perspective. I don't think we'll get a comprehensive backstory but I think there will be some sort of meaningful explanation behind the beetle trip that may inform why Bakugo ultimately misinterpreted things so poorly at the river. I mean, maybe it's as simple as the fact that he couldn't fathom kindness because it's something not typically afforded to those who are perceived as strong. I don't know but I look forward to finding out.

The set up for the church paradox. 

Cas, post fall, fever dream, almost dying locked in that cabin bedroom, the unnamed goddess calling him in spirit yet somehow physically into that Church.

Dean, post infection, fever dream, almost dying locked in that cabin bedroom, Cas accidentally calling him in spirit yet somehow physically into that Church. 

All of time and space converging. Dean is the impossible, he was never supposed to be in this universe, Cas accidentally binding them together with those sigils, allowing Cas to connect with Dean in the first place, and also making Dean invisible to Lucifer while he’s physically in that cabin, which he technically is, thus allowing him to shield Lia and thus her able to get him into that church where he and Cas manage to do something and erase the kids' (and both of their) minds. 

There is so much meat there, and every time you re-read there is more. There is so much cool foreshadowing with ALL the players involved, and I literally put together another thread in that during EVERY read-through. 

Someone once asked me my thoughts on what we know happened in the church and it got to 19 pages in google before I had to cut it off pending another re-read of book 4.

When did you first start reading it?

It’s hard to remember just because the last three years are a fuzzy mess, but I’m pretty sure I started reading it late 2021/early 2022. I am a fast reader so I demolished it VERY fast. 

When did you first realize how hooked you where with DtA? Was it from moment one? Was there a specific scene? 

After Cas and Dean started properly working together in book 1 I was pretty on board, but once they told Chuck and started their trips into Kansas City, that was when it really settled in and I knew I was about to read the entire thing.

If there could be a in-depth prequel written for any of the characters, who's past would you be the most interested in exploring?

Joe or Teresa. Honestly though I’d really like to see the case Dean worked down by the border. 

If you had to, what would you ranking be of the books?

This is a slim AF margin too, because they’re all so good. But I think it’d be 3,1,4,2 So “A Thousand Lights in Space” “Map of the World” “Game of God” “It’s the Stars That Lie” But it's real neck and neck for the last three.

How many times have you read it all the way through?

Books one and two I have read cover to cover 6 or 7 times, three I probably read a couple more. Book four I’ve actually only read completely cover to cover once, but I have read a lot of it out of order a couple more times. I’m trying to get my fics to a bit more of a stable point so I can re-read it again in case I go off the rails hyper-fixation on it again. I’ll probably read it twice in a row when I read it this next time.

Did reading DtA help inspire your own The End fic?

No, it hindered it greatly. The world building in DtA is very contrary to the plot I have for my endverse fic, and it took a while for my brain to reset and be like “Nope, this is what I’m doing, put that out of your mind.” If I hadn’t read DtA, you’d already have my Endverse fic, because I started writing it before reading that, and had to stop work for straight up like a year. 

What of the many burning questions currently unanswered do you want answered first?

WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED INSIDE THE DAMN CHURCH!?!?!?

What's the most interesting non-SPN related fact that DtA taught you?

Graphene and everything about it.

I think none of them would have any idea what to do with it. Cas would therefore not have much outward expression, Sam would be incredibly awkward and only a little insulted he isn’t in it, and Dean would be 10/10 defensive AF. 

What's a scene/interaction that still scratches the brain itch?

The Winchester Hou- Cas accidentally calling Dean when he’s using Allison as a conduit for the kids in Ichabod, and subsequently their interactions after Cas figures out what happened. 

Close seconds are Cas and Dean’s interaction after Dean gets bit in the courtyard, Cas searching Kansas City with his mind after Dean touched The Ick™. 

And yes actually the retelling of Nate’s interactions with The Winchester House.

Have you read The Forever King spin-off series? If so, what are your thoughts?

🪲 Where The Wyrd Walk

WTWW is a horror-adjacent adventure webcomic project that I've been chipping away at for several years.

It follows Jude, an anxious mess of a 20-Something year old that finds himself mixed up in the affairs of Man-eating Gods and various weirdos. It's about recovery and finding community. It's also about me getting to draw cool monsters and big women with big swords.

🌌 The Nevermore (working title)

A horror sci-fantasy webseries(?) project about a varied little crew assigned to board and secure The Nevermore:

A far-flung prison station anchored in deep-space, built over a period of thousands of years to contain one of the most ancient evils in their known universe.

We follow from the perspective of their guy-in-the-chair as he tries to guide them it's labyrinthine interior, peeling back layers of near-forgotten history and weathering chains in the hopes of buying the universe just a little more time before the inevitable.

My total crack theory in a nutshell: Nanook is Akivili.

Let's start with Kafka, specifically the interrogation scene. She tells us there are 3 ways an Aeon can die: (1) assimilation from overlapping Paths,

(2) they are directly killed by another Aeon,

or (3) oh shit big tree-

As far as I recall, we haven't been directly told what that third method is. But I think we can safely assume it's important. I can't particularly think of any Path that was subsume the Trailblaze (except maybe Harmony, but there's nothing to suggest it), so first method is out. Himeko tells us (when we're asking questions in the parlour car) that she doesn't think Akivili was directly killed by another Aeon, so for now I'm gonna take her word on that (with a grain of salt). Kafka also seems to share a similar sentiment.

But Himeko DOES mention something important: the Primum Mobile. Essentially the idea that each Aeon MUST follow their own Path. It's not said what happens if they don't, or whether it's even possible for them to stray from their Path, but I think if it is, it's an obvious third way for them to die.

Kafka says we are destined to come into conflict with Nanook, in a "struggle of Aeonic proportions". And then she says "even Aeons can be killed." But if you ask if killing an Aeon is their plan, she responds "Ha, are you kidding? That's not what we want. I just want to tell stories from the past: stories about Aeons that have fallen." Hard to tell exactly what to take away from this except maybe the suggestion that killing Nanook is not our goal - conclusion pending.

Alright cool let's go into Simulate Universe and oh shit here's Fuli-

Interestingly, Fuli is providing us (masquerading as Akivili) with the memories of Nanook here. Nanook originates from a planet called Adlivun, which was somehow destroyed. (Now, Akivili's home world is actually referred to as Pegana by Himeko. But my copium here is that planets can undergo name changes or be called different things by the locals.)

I'll be honest this is where the crack theory falls apart a little bit... maybe? We get this text from the loading screen:

The natural assumption here is that Nanook was an Adlivun local who ascended to Aeonhood when his planet was destroyed. However, Fuli's memories appear somewhat non-linear, and both that and the loading text don't provide a concrete timeline.

"You remember that there is a golden scar on your body, and golden blood flowing on the dying planet." implies that this sentence occurs after the ascension of Nanook, but the planet was probably dying before then. "You find yourself dark-skinned and wearing a robe on the wasteland." would come before his ascension.

But there's a potential gap between him being born on the planet and him returning to witness the disaster, during which anything could have happened. For example, joining the Nameless - "you laugh at exploration". The other line here, "you are a swift shadow across the abyss, reaching out to catch the shooting star" could maybe refer to either trying to stop disaster striking, or catch someone falling (but at this point I'm reading into things).

That and now I'm adding in the fact that all of the arguably post-death HCQ members are Destruction characters, which is thematically linking the Destruction Path with experiencing and/or witnessing death.

So at the very least here's my more sensible version of this theory: Nanook was one of the Nameless at some point. Potentially even witnessing or being involved in the death of Akivili, occurring on Adlivun and probably related to whatever caused the planet to fall.

Intersecting Lines

I doubt I could ever ask for a better intersection of topics in The Daily Blog. As per usual, I run the blog in a couple of classes that are very different from one another. This semester my undergrads in Consumer Behavior, and my MBAs in Digital Marketing, get to sink their teeth into them.

Sometimes the blog leans toward CB, other times toward Digital Marketing. And sometimes, with a little bending and stretching, I can hit two birds with one stone. Today, though, is beauty, and it involves a retail corporation we have already discussed more than once: Walmart.

And in this rare intersection of topics, we find Walmart getting a sales bump from an unexpected demo—wealthier shoppers—who also happen to be doing it primarily through online shopping. They account for the vast majority of Walmart’s growth in recent months. You can’t get any closer to that.

Once again, there is much to unpack here. These wealthier shoppers are attracted by Walmart’s ever-growing online assortment, part of Walmart’s digital strategy. Then there’s a lingering social stigma in some areas related to shopping at Walmart. At least when you shop online, no one knows you are in the store.

But in the BAM arena, all bets are off. I'll just toss this in, though: the Canyon Walmart is one of the finest I have ever been in, and the university community all the way to the topmost position patronizes it. No stigma in this town.

We must also consider the recent effects of inflation, which sent the vast majority of Americans looking for bargains. Will higher-income shoppers turn away from Walmart once inflation settles into a more reasonable groove? Or will they linger because they have come to like it?

Walmart revenues and earnings topped earlier estimates for Q4, but shares fell because the company warned that its profit growth will slow in the current fiscal year. They also came clean and announced that it is not immune to pending tariffs.

Still, they were gleeful that holiday period sales increased by 4%, and e-commerce sales rocketed upward 20%. Investors are a fickle lot, quickly forgetting the good news and focusing instead on a less rosy forecast.

In the last couple of years, Walmart has made a concerted effort to improve the ambience of its stores, also adding an upscale line of private label items called bettergoods. The chain is trying to shed the old discount store atmosphere in which shoppers can see clear across the store, replacing it with smaller departments that almost have a boutique-within-a-store feel.

It is no secret that Walmart has long coveted wealthier shoppers, but has never been able to crack that nut until now. Clothing in particular aimed at that demo simply did not resonate. Perhaps it was the combination of better marketing strategy and inflation, though, that finds six-figure-income households shopping there. I’m pretty sure that their money is just as green—maybe even greener—than the money their core middle-America shopper brings.

There is a part of me, though, that is concerned whenever I see a company trying to be all things to all people. It is at this time you run the risk of being nothing to everyone instead, by virtue of being unable to do a superb job for any one customer group. Walmart would certainly be one among very few companies that might have a chance of pulling it off. Sheer size has its advantages.

And there is another part of me that would love to know exactly how those wealthier shoppers are spending their money. Is it just groceries? Or do they buy clothing, linens, electronics, and housewares as well? That would be proof positive that they are gaining more widespread confidence of what is arguably a lucrative demo. If they are only spending on immediate consumables, that would tell us they are there to get cheap eats, which would reflect the inflation argument.

Either way, I am fascinated by this coming together of two seemingly isolated events. The view from any of the four street corners is profitable.

Here are some of the major (and minor but interesting) ‘Teen Mom’-related things that happened over the last few days…

Nathan Griffith and Wife May Have Made Up & Moved to Las Vegas. 

Sin City just picked up a couple of new residents. 

After a tumultuous and law-breaking summer, former ‘Teen Mom 2’ dad (and one-time swole-mate of Jenelle Evans) Nathan Griffith has packed up his collection of cut-off T-shirts and relocated from Florida to Las Vegas, Nevada. 

The news of Nate’s new residence was revealed on social media by his occasionally-estranged wife, May Oloya. 

“New Home… New Life” May captioned a carousel of photos of her and Nathan posing with their dog in front of the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign. 

As fans know, Nathan has been in Vegas for a few months, and even managed to rack up some hefty charges in the short time he’s been in town. As The Ashley previously reported, Nate was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail on July 12 for felony Battery by Strangulation against his sister Heather. (Click here for more details on what went down between the siblings.) 

If Nate and May rekindling their romance (again) or the troubled twosome moving across the country (away from Nate’s children) wasn’t enough to throw you for a loop, Nate’s straight-out-of Bret Michaels’ closet getup will do the trick– specifically his “FATHER” t-shirt. 

Nate rocking his (hopefully ironic) “FATHER” T-shirt comes just weeks after he called himself a “sh**ty dad” on TikTok Live. Nate said he earned the title for not seeing his son Kaiser (whom he shares with Jenelle) in six months, and not seeing his daughter Emery (from a previous relationship) in a year. 

Jenelle called out Nate for being an absentee father back in July after she was asked on social media how involved Nate was in their son’s life. 

“Honestly I will say Nathan is dealing with his own issues at the moment,” she claimed. “But he hasn’t seen Kaiser since Christmas.” 

Nathan still has pending “Battery by Strangulation” charges in Vegas, so it’s unknown if he is allowed to leave the state of Nevada. He is currently sporting what authorities called “a high-level monitoring system” to track him, so it’s unlikely. He is not allowed to have contact with his sister Heather, per a protective order placed after the strangling incident.

His next court date is September 6.

Leah Messer Talks About How Hard It Is To Date While on TV; Says She’s Lacking Sex

It’s been 10 months since Leah split from her fiancé, Jaylan Mobley, after a whirlwind (and photoshoot-filled) relationship. However, in a series of new interviews, Leah made it clear that she’s not looking for a new photoshoot/life partner any time soon. Instead, she said, she’s looking to clean up the mess she’s made of her finances…and maybe get laid.

“I don’t want any distractions right now,” she told told E! News in a recent interview. “I’m just trying to make money, okay? And raise my daughters.” 

Leah— who has two failed marriages under her belt already— said she has a hard time finding someone to date because she’s worried a person will only want to be with her to get famous.

“I think that it can be very difficult to date with the cameras around. You just never know someone’s intentions,” Leah recently told DailyMail.com.

"I would enjoy that, someone to build with, grow with, make money with, absolutely,” she said, adding that it’s ben a while since she’s smacked no-nos with anyone.

“But at this time in my life, your girl’s lacking in the love department and the sex department, just saying!” Leah said. 

As for her breakup with Jaylan, Leah said that, in hindsight, it was a good thing for her.

“I needed that breakup,” Leah told E! News. “I’ve learned a lot from my last breakup and, moving forward, I do feel like my life is just beginning.” 

While her love life is on hiatus, Leah is working on getting her money matters in order. As The Ashley has previously reported, Leah is deep in tax debt. In May, she was hit with a new $290,297 tax lien, bringing the total in taxes she owes to Uncle Sam to almost $780,000.

Leah stated in June that she’s working to get her tax situation under control. 

While Leah acknowledged that she hadn’t “made the best financial decisions in the past,” she’s feeling pretty good about her choices when it comes to bringing up her girls. 

“I want to do better,” she said in regard to her financial mistakes. “And when I’m complete in my life, then we’ll see [about dating]. But right now, I’m good. Stay away from me.”

Kail Lowry Says Her Son Isaac Doesn’t Want to See Javi Marroquin Anymore Because Isaac Has Trauma From Their Divorce

On a recent episode of her Coffee Convos podcast, former ‘Teen Mom 2’ star Kail Lowry talked about her divorce from Javi Marroquin, revealing that the split has had a lasting impact on her eldest son, Isaac.

“Truthfully, and I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, nothing has hurt Isaac more in his life than my divorce with Javi,” Kail told co-host Lindsie Chrisley. “ … nothing has affected him the way that my divorce did … to this day, I see the emotional turmoil that my divorce created in Isaac.” 

As fans of ‘Teen Mom 2’ may remember, Isaac was quite young when Kail and Javi divorced in 2016 after three years of marriage and after welcoming son Lincoln. According to Kail, her and Javi’s divorce also took a toll on Isaac’s relationship with his younger brother.

“So when we split, Isaac was really struggling with his relationship with Lincoln and with Javi because at the end of the day, even though he looked up to Javi as a dad, that wasn’t his dad, but Lincoln still got to go do all that stuff and got to go be with Javi and got to spend that real quality time,” she said.

Though Kail acknowledged that Isaac’s father, Jo Rivera, is and always has been a big part of their son’s life, she explained that Isaac once treated Javi as father figure because the two saw each other more often. 

Kail became emotional while discussing the current state of Isaac and Javi’s relationship–- or lack thereof–- as she revealed her firstborn “doesn’t want to see Javi now,” due to what she believes “could be abandonment.” 

“I don’t know, because it wasn’t like there was a decision made where Isaac’s never going to go with Javi again,” she continued. “It’s just the way things worked out, you know? Javi had a new family … .” 

(Javi and his ex-fiancé, Lauren Comeau, welcomed son Eli in 2018. While the couple went on to end their engagement due to Javi’s Wawa-wandering ways, they rekindled their relationship in 2022 and are still currently together.) 

Kail admitted it’s “really hard” to see that Isaac is still struggling with what happened. 

“ … I can never take this trauma away from Isaac,” she said. “That’s something he’ll have to live with forever.” 

As The Ashley reported last week, Kail recently admitted that her divorce from Javi made her never want to get married again, even though her boyfriend, Elijah Scott, is ready for them to take the next step. 

Amber Portwood Is Getting Her House (And Her Couch) Back 

After three years, a nasty court battle and a series of rented couches, Amber is finally moving back to her Indianapolis home.

According to The Sun, Ambie— who has been living in rental homes since her 2019 arrest for assaulting her baby daddy Andrew Glennon— will be relocating back to Casa de Ambie at the end of the month. As ‘Teen Mom’ fans know, Amber has not lived in her spacious Indiana home since her arrest. Instead, she allowed Andrew and their son, James, to stay in her home so that James was not uprooted from his house and possessions. 

The home— which was featured prominently on ‘Teen Mom’ over the years— has seemingly been vacant since Andrew and James moved to California in late 2022.

After Andy vacated the house, Amber and her other baby daddy Gary Shirley went over there and discovered that everything in the home had seemingly been given a urine bath and the house was covered in filth. 

It is unknown why Amber continued to live in rental homes in 2023, when no one was living in the home she owned. 

The Sun reports, though, that Amber appears to be doing some work on the home.

Building a Fabula World, Part 2a

Originally, my intention had been to put everything we came up with for the questions asking us to add Nations and Historical Events in this post but... then I actually looked at the amount of stuff we came up with. I then promptly decided I'd subdivide it a little bit, just to save mine and everyone else's sanity.

Anyway...

3. Kingdoms and Nations

The book asks the players to create the major kingdoms and nations of the world, marking their borders and discussing their relations. Whether they have strong alliances or strained relationships. How they interact with the world at large. Each person is expected to contribute at least one kingdom, and to consider their customs, beliefs, industry, and denizens. We also decided, though the book did not ask us to, to consider which of the 16+ character classes the game offers across the core rule book and it's playtest materials are most likely to come from a given place.

The Folk - Tentative name, Provided by Damon

An analog for Indigenous people in the real world, for whom magic is a way of life. It is their art and their culture. It's strongest practitioners are its priests and political representatives. They respect the ancient and esoteric nature of the magic forces of the world and aspire daily to live in harmony with the natural world. They are a largely nomadic people, who follow the currents of magic--the pulse of the world tree--through the wild places of the world. They are staunchly opposed to the industrialization of magic, believing that technological advancements are disrupting "the pulse" and some amongst their number are not above committing violence or destroying property to prevent it. They have little to no racial animus, so long as you are willing to follow the old ways, and their traveling bands include a higher than average concentration of Animal featured demi-humans. Their naming conventions are most often a form of Adjective Noun construct like "Active Iron" or "Defiant Roach". The Folk have a higher than average concentration--and are likely the source--of Arcanists (think Final Fantasy Summoners) and Chimerists (Blue Mages).

The Industrial Powerhouse - Name pending, Provided by Kevin

A Nation on the vanguard of technological development. Their fashion, culture, and architectural style is a call back to Victorian England and steampunk nonsense. Their towns, especially their capital, are sprawling rats nests of stone and steel and steam. Their inventors are always more concerned with whether or not they can, and not with whether or not they should. Politically, they are the most at odds with The Folk because they believe that Humanity is meant to be the masters of the world, and that magic and nature should be made to serve them and not vice versa. They push for stability through law and order, and attempt to keep the population in line by providing a lack of scarcity of food, entertainment, and luxury goods, even as they push their citizens to work harder and longer in conditions that are not always safe. The nation's ultimate goal is to find a way to lock the natural cycle of magic in the world into a static state that is both predictable and controllable. The Industrial Powerhouse is a possible source for characters of the Tinkerer (Your Edgar of Final Fantasy 6 type) or Pilot classes.

I'll leave it with those two for now, but already we can see my players picking up the pieces of the small handful facts we decided on in the first two steps and running with them: one faction exemplifying the ancient and esoteric nature of magic and a oneness with nature, and another a capitalist nightmare state built on the scientific innovations Arcane Distillate. A natural animosity formed as a result of opposing ideals.

Shades of Final Fantasy 6 and 7 are strong here, all the more funny for the fact that most of my players have never played either of these games, and this is only the first two! I've still got SIX more to go!

Still, seems like we're already shaping up to make Capitalism the bad guy.

Unique Magic: "Run with wolves" Incantation: “go run and howl.” [the user is able to create an illusion of a pack of average sized wolves - looking like living/solidified shadows - that they are able to control at will, and that are able to physically interact with their surroundings - currently only to minor degrees. Mainly using them to swarm, distract, attack, or track down opponents. The more shadow’s the user can pull from, the bigger the pack/the more wolves they can make.]

Trivia: His ears are long/slim, adding 4 inches to his height, but the length of his ears doesn’t add any extra hearing that he doesn’t already have from being a wolf beastman. He likes surfing and is actually quite good at it! His tail is also about 4 ½ ft long, and he often gets into arguments about people tripping over it.. and thinks they should be watching where they walk when they say he shouldn’t let it drag across the ground behind him. He’s known to be very prideful, and kind of a tsundere. kind of passive aggressiveness, hidden under a layer of teeth clenched politeness - like a mix between jack and jade.

Character Summary:  “Don't mess with my lupical, head my call.” He was born the 2nd child, youngest kid with an older half brother (nrc student) he barely knows - whom his father had from a previous marriage, in the Land of Dawning (specifically on the archipelago southwest of the Coral Sea). His father is an average fisherman and his mother is a well known seamstress. Many generations of his family have lived on the archipelago, so his family has quite the footprint on those islands, having good relations with the majority of the people in the land of dawning due to his parents’ services, which have never been too expensive and mainly offered to other low income families rather then higher income ones. Nothing interesting has really happened during his childhood - other than him getting into surfing around the age of 6 or 7, and wishing to one day be the best surfer in the Land of Dawning. He never really had many ‘mage’ aspirations, despite the archipelago being quite close to the island of sages, mainly because he never thought he would ever become a great or powerful mage, and he had many people claim he’d never get there due to his commoner background and lack of access to proper training/resources to train. Though he still practiced magic from time to time, just for fun or to improve himself for his own self worth. But the idea of being a mage eventually started to become more real when he encountered an upper class 2nd year student from rsa, who was on vacation in the archipelago with their family during the holidays. that student being none other than head of the Rotkäppchen dorm at that school (twst red riding hood), who had watched him save another teen from some bullies on one of the small shorelines using some elemental magic - swiftly defeating the group of harassers, and approached him out of intrigue. noting his bravery to jump into any kind of situation for the sake of someone else, someone he didn't even know. He told him that he had a lot of talent, and asked if he was gonna attend rsa. He told the boy he wasn’t sure that he had what it took, being rather flustered by the compliments and acting curt towards them - like they didn't matter or that he didn't care for the boys opinion even though he did. but the praise from someone of that boy standing gave him the confidence to train harder and perhaps get into that school one day, just to prove that he could. And eventually, within that same year, it happened! He was selected to attend. He parted with his parents and headed off to the isle of sages, unsure as to what awaited him there. He was soon sorted into the same dorm as twst!red riding hood, who has been trying to aggressively befriend him by any means necessary, kind of intimidated by the wolf boy but still wanting to understand things unknown to him (being the embodiment of ‘curiosity killed the cat’ in his dormmates’ opinions), though Αrepo sees it as nothing more than a senpai helping a kohai. Never having many friends during his childhood, due to his introversion based off of a lack of self confidence and desire to ‘be a lone wolf’ despite how much he wants others to like him - he just doesn’t like having the spotlight on himself.. making him a bit socially inept overall. But he is trying his best to improve, and refuses to fail at anything! Aiming to hopefully be an honors student one day.
