Okay soooo i kindaa had a silly idea and ran with it…. Fem!dazai who’s a monsterfucker with an AFAB!reader who is ALSO monsterfucker?
-Imagine fem!dazai finding out her s/o is a monsterfucker~
Imagine the two of them on Dazais bed just rambling on to eachother and then reader just says “honestly sometimes id just love to be fucked dumb by a tentacle y’know?”
And dazai just nods like “yass girll me too~” but she has this sneaky look in her eye.
-“Zai?whats up??oh no…what did you just think of🤨”
-“Oh no just…hold on”
She goes over to her closet and picks up a box and brings it back to the bed and opens it.
And lo and behold its fuckin filled with an assortment of monster-dicks.
Reader then looks up at dazai like 😳
And all she says is “ive got way better than a tentacle babe~ take your pick”
And when reader can’t pick on,she just covers their eyes and makes em pick one.
Imagine the rest of the night she just uses them all on you so you can find your absolute favorite…
Well at least that’s the excuse she made to get you on board.
Imagine dazai just goin to townn on you with each and ever one in the box,trying some of her favorite ones twice(just to make sure you get a proper feel for it ofc! she definitely doesnt love seeing your face scrunch up and relax as each one enters your pretty little cunt,each one a different shape,size,length and girth.)
Imagine her going so deep,it rubs against your cervix…imagine cumming so many times that at this point neither of you have kept count accurately.
Imagine her stimulating your clit with a little bullet vibrator as she thrusts the foreign shapes into you revelling in the way you moan out her name and grip the sheets,your toes curling and your back arching.
Imagine her using a vibrating one and just keeping it inside you,buried to the hilt and making u beg to have it pulled out.
Imagine her running her finger along the edge of your cunt,gathering some of your slick and demanding that you clean the mess off her fingers in exchange for taking it out of you.
Imagine by the time your done you feel so sore and exhausted that you can barely even get up to go have a post-coital shower.
Imagine waking up the next day to see that each and every one of the little gadgets had been haphazardly thrown back into their box. Only your decided favorites lying nicely cleaned and dry on your night stand.
Imagine getting just a little sweet revenge on her and buying her one she doesnt have just to use it on her until she cant walk. Honestly I doubt she’d mind~ I mean she gets to skip work the next day, AND she gets to be your little pillow princess~ It was a win win situation!
I hope its okie and not too much😭
ALSO IM SO SORRY I DIDNT KNOW U WERE LACTOSE INTOLERANT!!!!
Lets just imagine my icon is um lactose free cheese?(is that a thing?)
Anywho! OMG GOOD LUCK FOR YOUR EXAMS!!!! Ive got exams on monday too #A Levels🥲 I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!! YOUVE GOT THIS!!!!
Stay safe! Study well and i believe in you!
-🧀
DEAR LORD 🧀, WANT SOME WORD COUNT LIMIT WITH THAT ESSAY 😭⁉️
I love how dedicated you are lol.
But you’re missing the part where Fem!Dazai would get a double sided monster dildo just to share with you so you could fuck yourselves stupid on it. And she only gets more enthusiastic about it when your pussies meet in the middle and your clits rub against each other 🤭
OOOO ALSO BONUS BUT UHM, I HAVE A FEM! CHUUYA x READER x FEM! DAZAI SMUT DRAFT SITTING IN MY DOCS THAT WAS ORIGINALLY GOING TO BE WHAT I POSTED INSTEAD OF JUST THE FEM! CHUUYA SMUT 😶 I had the idea written down but I never wrote it. (I want to though.)

Unsure if I sent a response back sorry adhd brain is bad sometimes LOL but it’s been lovely talking to you too! I don’t have anyone to talk about the show with besides my mom who watches it with me but I still have Yellowstone brainrot. Again I’m a Beth girlie but it’s nice to talk to others in the fandom and discuss. I think the show is great because they’re all such victims of each other and the family dynamics are just horrifically toxic. Every relationship John has with his children is abusive and volatile in some degree. Branding Kayce because he disobeyed him. Pushing and punishing Jamie because he’s not who he wants him to be, sending him away to college when that’s not what he wanted. Beth is extremely loyal to him to her own detriment because I personally feel like she’s trying to make up for killing her mother and taking his wife away from him, but no matter how much she tries she won’t ever make that up in John’s eyes. Anyways, you have a good one 💕
Aaaahhh I have so many thoughts also the adhd brain is a mood for sure my dude! sorry it took me forever to get to this! I’ll put my stuff under a cut again only because I tend to ramble and I gotta save the dash sanity for others lol
ok first I wanna go back to Beth lmfao. god she has such depth to her and I feel like we’ve been cheated by T.Sher so badly. Her trauma is unreal and so unprocessed and so unexplored and it’s not faaaair. When it’s Christmas and she is terrified of what’s happening to her??? puberty and she’s terrified, my poor child, I felt so sad that that was such a scary moment for her and then she was already in pain too and her mom was just like “now I have to make sure you’ll survive this man’s mans world and make you ultra haaaard” that made me so sad because I feel like she already was trying so hard to survive as a child. then the flashback to her mothers death. Genuinely I still feel so much rage over it. She was clearly uncomfortable and did not want to be on this big animal that she wasn’t comfortable controlling and unsure of being on and her mom just idk completely disregarded her and basically told her “you’re shit outta luck man up” like girl what??? Your young daughter is feeling very unsafe on a dangerous animal, I get pushing your kids to face their fears but like why did it have to be a joke to East Jesus nowhere??? Then ITS NOT EVEN BETH’S FAULT, Evelyn’s horse spooks(it’s not even looking at Beth, Beth does nothing wrong and nothing at all to affect her horse) but yeah it spooks it’s fucking self and obviously crushes her but Beth is already weeping and scared and blaming herself and Kayce is so intune with the needs of everyone so he pleads for her to let him go get John and she LOCKS EYES WITH BETH AND BLAMES HER!!! straight up is like nah Beth’s the reason my horse spooked it’s her fault my horse crushed me she made this mistake being a completely normal scared child she has to fix this mistake
Beth didn’t even hardly know the way back her horse bucks her off, she gets hurt she runs back she’s already internalizing the grief of this unfair blame she’s saddled with and then what happens???? JOHN YELLS AT HEEEEER. crying screaming throwing up dyyyyying. home girl literally got blamed by her mom for killing her and then he dad yells at her for crying and being hurt and scared oh my gosh I’m so mad lmao. Um…. but yeah. Beth clearly struggled with anxiety and security at a young age and I think she wanted to make her mother proud and prove she was hard enough to survive “with the boys” so she could survive her own survivors guilt that Evelyn forced her to experience maybe???
also yeah!!! I do think John blamed Beth for his wife’s death and she’s desperate to make up for it but also resents John for moving on with any other woman because I think he made sure she felt she was responsible for Evelyn’s death and his unhappiness afterwards— maybe somehow that ties into like her resentment of what Jamie did to her too? Like maybe it triggers this massive guilt in her where she subconsciously thinks well fuck I stole my fathers happiness so my brother stole mine??? God idk what even is meta? Probably not this lol.
not me writing a novel on Beth’s childhood… but then a few years pass and she asks Jamie for help and yeah he fucks it up because well idk part of me does feel it was lazy writing on Tshers behalf again, because they had to be teens in the 90s and sterilization on Rez’s stopped in the 70’s I’m pretty sure idk still. But also like I just think with the fear of failing and the deep rooted trauma of “inate otherness” that Jamie clearly carried around from a young age I just don’t genuinely feel like it was in his character to allow Beth to suffer like that. He would’ve spoken up or argued with her about how he wouldn’t let her go in that clinic. They would’ve fought like shit but he would’ve convinced her that John finding out was better than being cheated out of motherhood and idk Beth and Jamie are just so goddamn conniving (in a good way) that they would’ve saved Rip from John’s wrath.
John’s undying love for the land and his egos unquenchable thirst for false pride and accolades is definitely his downfall as a father in my mind. They definitely are all victims of one another’s traumas and John’s refusal to acknowledge he’s the creator or root/epicenter of it all. All the siblings deserve so much better and I’ll never forgive the writing for completely wiping Lee out of the story too!!!
I also think about how if this is along the storyline that the Rez is still sterilizing women then John was completely ok with Kayce forcing that torture and agony on Monica if it meant protecting the pride of his ranch. But suddenly he’s upset Jamie took Beth there, like is he blind to his own double standards? Fuck but I love johns depth too. They’re all so weirdly complex and i end up thinking damn this man has a lifetime of unfiltered and unfinished trauma too aaaaaaaaahhhhh. I want to write all the things with Beth and John and Jamie lol. They sooth the shallow waters of my weird little soul soil.
sorry I ramble so badly, I can’t tell if that’s the adhd working or if I’m really just bad at staying on track because everything reminds me of something else and then I can’t find my way back to the circles beginning! But I’ve loved your asks they’ve been such high points in my time here thank you so much for talking and sharing in this with me my dude, I hope you have an excellent day/night/afternoon/dusk and beyond lol.

Hello! im sending in a matchup request! only if you haven't reached the max limit already, if that's the case then please ignore!
But if not then I'd like a matchup for Haikyuu.
My name is Cupid im and infp, Taurus, my love language is physical touch, and I'm a pretty shy person. I don't normally talk about myself a lot unless someone brings up one of my favorite things. like fashion history, games like stardew valley, sanrio, and anything pink! oh and I'm always prepared to talk about my cat periwinkle and show pictures too! I spend a lot of my time reading and writing. mostly fanfiction at the moment but i write other things too! finally, i have a light pink aesthetic and love to wear skirts and cute shoes!
I hope this is enough! thank you for your time and congratulations on your milestone!!✨✨✨💖💖💖
-cupid💘
Fandom: Haikyuu
Format: Headcanons
Warnings: None
Word Count: 0.5K
A/n: tysm honey, and here you go.
Tumblr media
I match you with...
Tumblr media
Tooru Oikawa!
Ok he's a HUGE tease, so I think he would love the idea of having an s/o whose face turns red with the slightest flirty comment of his And he's such a FLIRT too, so Good luck baring with him tbh lol.
I headcanon that physical touch is also his love language, along side acts of service if he has time. He loves how you get flustered everytime he tends to touch you, and adores how you try to get close to him as well by becoming a blushing mess. He would hold your hand at any chance he gets, and would be super protective of you, especially when facing his fangirls.
"Ok ladies, I really appreciate your support; but as you can see, I'm hanging out with my beloved s/o now so it would mean a lot if you save your chatters for another time!"
BTW his fans have a love/hate feeling toward you. Like, half of them would adore how much you two match each other and might even make a fan club for you, and the rest of them would be jealous, waiting for an opportunity to take their envy out on you, but they would never succeed cuz Oiks would never let them.
You're friends with Iwaizumi too. I mean, he's your boyfriends childhood friend after all and is a gentleman. And he also smacks Oikawa in the head every time he tries to fluster you in public.
You're normally quiet and not too talkative, rather to speak with your actions- like how you would gently run around your fingers on his arm whenever he's standing next to you or press your head against his chest when he's hugging you- so he would do anything to make you come out of your shell and be a little bit more open about yourself and how you feel. He loves how you get all excited talking about stuff you like, losing track of time as you keep telling him random facts about fashion and how much you're dying to go to a fashion show or things like that. He loves it so much that he would make time for you on his incredibly bust schedule, listening to your nonstop rambling while adoring how pretty you look all exhilarated.
"Oh- did I tell you about that dress that was exhibited in 1986- babe? I'm sorry I was being too talkative I-" "Oh no not at all suger cube, please go on <3"
SPEAKING OF FASHION SHOWS
He would be more than willing to be your model, trying on spicy outfits as he checks himself out in the mirror while smirking and winking at you.
"Say y/n chan! How does it feel like to date with the most handsome man that has ever landed on earth?" "Um... tiring and troublesome? <3" "Wha- So mean, y/n! What has happened to my kind hearted bunny? You should stop hanging out with Iwa chan!"
I think that he also likes cats, so he would give head pats to it every time he come's at your door to walk you to school.
YES, he always walks you to school
Would store cute pinky stuff in his closet to gift them to you whenever your feeling down or something. It's not like he needs a reason for showering his darling in gifts, after all :D
I hope you like this and tysm for participating!

~~~
Soulmates were a phenomenon. They'd been there for ages, drawn into the Egyptian tomb paintings, seen in the cave paintings from millions of years ago, talked about in stories passed down from generation to generation. They could be matching drawings, first words, names; all black before the soulmates met and turning gold the moment they talked to each other. There wasn't a scientist in the world who could explain the phenomenon.
You'd received your mark at birth just like everyone else, a sentence running around your wrist,
"No fucking way."
Your parents weren't that happy when you asked at the age of 4 what "fucking" meant but it wasn't that bad. You were happy that you had something unique, something other than the "Hi," or "Excuse me," that was on every other arm.
When you were 13, a little girl on the train pointed to your wrist and asked her mom what it meant. Ever since then, you'd taken to wearing bracelets over it. This had turned out to be a good idea because a few years later you started making Youtube videos. At the age of 16, you started a Youtube channel where you focused on a variety of things; makeup, fashion, games, art, skits and a whole lot more.
At the age of 20, you had a steady following of a little more than a million subscribers, and you had moved to LA to be closer to all your Youtube friends. You hadn't just grown on Youtube, you'd also started a lot of side projects. You were known for the art that you did on the side, along with the makeup palette you'd come out with a year ago. Soon you were planning to release a merch collection, one that you had been working on for a whole year now.
You hadn't met your soulmate at this point but honestly, you didn't really mind. Balancing Youtube and study (along with all your other side projects) was hard. There was no need to add the struggle of love into it... Or that's what you told yourself anyways.
There were days though, days where you wished you had someone to hug, someone to cuddle in bed with, someone to go on long walks with. You didn't let yourself wallow on it that long though. Crying about it was gonna do absolutely nothing.
It started on a rainy day. The story of you and him. You were editing your soon to be uploaded video, an e-girl outfits lookbook, which had been requested by your followers. Your personal style was all over the place and your previous soft girl and cottage care look books had done well, so you decided to continue the series.
You eyes blurred as you looked at the same point of the video, and you sighed, removing your glasses and rubbing your eyes. Your editor was sick and had let you know that they wouldn't be able to edit it by the deadline so here you were, editing it yourself. You stretched in your chair letting out a yawn. You were contemplating on whether to make coffee or not when your phone pinged.
"Nooooo" you whined when you noticed it was on the coffee table that was just a little out of your reach. Stretching your foot out, you tried to grab it between your toes and then sighed when the phone fell.
"I have zero luck, I swear" you muttered to yourself, bending to pick up the phone.
The text was from Rae, asking you to join a game of Among Us. You and Rae had been friends for a bit now, which all started when she came across your art and decided to order something from you. You had chatted and clicked immediately, immediately becoming fast friends. Ever since the lockdown started, she often asked you to join in on Among us games and your friendship had really grown over these past few months.
You sent a quick "sure!" and then went to your table, waiting for the PC to turn on. Quickly tweeting out that you were streaming, you opened up Youtube and turned on the stream, saying a quick hello and letting them know what you'd be doing.
"Rae just invited me guys, I don't really know who's there," you mumbled, replying to a comment asking you who you were playing with.
You squinted your eyes, joining the voice chat and then opening your phone camera to quickly check that you didn't look horrible. Sure you didn't really care about how you looked but it was always good to check that you didn't have anything stuck between your teeth before you turned on the camera.
There was already a conversation going on, between who you thought was Corpse and Sykkuno, judging by their voices.
"Yeah I could totally do that. Get a cat and name it Bingus. I wonder if th-"
You gasped when you heard what they were talking about and unmuted yourself immediately yelling "PRAISE LORD BINGUS" and effectively shocking everyone in the chat.
A moment of silence and then Rae yelled: "OH MY FUCKING GOD Y/N, YOU SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME."
You giggled as everyone groaned and whined, saying hi as they realised who it was. You had played with Sykkuno and the others a few times before but you'd never met Corpse before. You'd heard his voice though, as he was trending on twitter constantly over the past few weeks. Once they all quietened down, you realised Corpse hadn't said anything. Since you knew everyone else in the lobby, you introduced yourself, wondering if you'd scared him a bit too hard.
"Hey Corpse, I'm Y/N from Y/C/N, its so nice to finally meet you," you said gritting your teeth at you awkward introduction. For a second there was no response and then three words were said that made your jaw drop to the floor.
"No fucking way"
He had whispered it, obviously still in shock, and your eyes widened in surprise as a tingle spread all over your body. So this was what everyone meant by "you'll just know," when you asked them about how you would recognize your soulmate.
"Holy shit" you thought frozen in your seat.
Never had you been more glad that you hadn't turned the camera on yet.
"Uhhhh-" you started, but stopped now knowing what to say.
What the fuck were you supposed to do now.
"Wha- Whats wrong?" Rae asked after a moment passed.
Corpse cleared his throat and started "Its um, shes my -" and you cut him off, heart beating in your chest.
"Nothing. Its nothing." you said talking over him. "Who else are we waiting for Rae?" you asked joining the lobby quickly and choosing red as your colour.
"Uh one more person," she said slowly, still a bit confused.
"Oh awesome!" you said fake enthusiasm prevalent in your voice. "So Sykkuno," you started, wanting to keep the conversation going. "How's Bimbus doing?"
Sykkuno launched into a story of Bimbus and you blew out a sigh of relief, mind still numb over the revelation.
Corpse was your soulmate.
The guy who had literally went viral the past few weeks was your soulmate.
You'd finally found him.
You heard Rae cut Sykkuno off, telling everyone she was starting the game and muttered a "Thank god" when the words "CREWMATE" appeared on your screen. You would not have been able to play imposter at the moment, your mind pretty much stuck on the fact that Corpse was your fucking soulmate.
Heading down to admin, you realised you hadn't said anything yet to the stream so you quickly turned on your cam, saying a quick sorry to the viewers.
"Sorry guys, I forgot to put the camera on," you smiled focusing on card swipe.
"I hope everyone's been okay, I know this was quite sudden, but Rae invited me and I was like why not you know," you said rambling as you moved to comms and did the task there.
Lights were called and you moved to electrical, arriving there just as Leslie fixed them. You moved into the back of electrical doing the three tasks you had there when Sykkuno suddenly came in and went straight to standing on top of the vent.
You giggled already knowing his trick.
"Okay guys," you mumbled watching Sykkuno wiggle on the vent. "do we trust Sykkuno or not?"
"You know what," you said making a split second decision. "Its the first game, we might as well."
Joining him on the vent, you stilled for a second and then breathed a sigh of relief when he didn't automatically kill you.
"See, what did I tell you guys huh?" you question smiling straight at the camera. "I knew Sykkuno could be trusted."
You decided to follow Sykkuno going into reactor with him and starting 'Simon says' and just as you were on the last part, a body was found making you let a whine out.
"Guysss," you whined to the camera as Rae started talking about how she had found Daves body in admin.
"Um, I havent been in admin since the start of the game," you said, "also I can clear Sykkuno, for the last part of the round, he's been with me since lights went out."
Sykkuno confirmed it, "Yup that's right, also I can hard clear Y/N cuz guess what? She stood on the vent with me and none of us died."
Everyone chuckled as he said "Thats good enough for me."
"Uh, I was in navigation mostly." said Lily.
"Poki, can I just ask what you were doing?" said Sean, an undercurrent of mirth present.
"Me?" asked Poki speaking for the first time. "What was I doing?"
"You weren't doing any tasks, you were literally just walking from one side of medbay to the other when I peeked in."
Poki started laughing, trying to get her words out at the same time.
"Okay so-" a giggle. "okay okay- I was just, I was trying to um do the beep test," she said finally breaking down and making everyone else laugh as well.
"What the fuck?" you said, laughing at the image in your mind.
"My chat told me to do it last game so I decided to do it now, I was literally just playing around," she said finally, adding "I swear I'm not imposter" at the end.
"Hmmm," you hummed, bringing a hand up to stroke your chin. "Are you sure it was last game Poki... hm...."
Giggling at Poki indignant "YES it was last game", you quickly skipped voting like everyone else as the timer went into the last ten seconds.
Humming a tune under your breath, you went back to reactor, taking a minute to carefully do Simon says and then moved to the other task counting out one two three as you pressed on the numbers. Humming, you moved out of reactor, only to come face to face with Corpse. You paused for a second, and then moved ahead, refusing to show anything on camera. For some reason he followed you as you went to storage, looking at you while you did the trash.
"Why is he just staring?" you mumbled, biting your lip. God, you really didn't wanna think of him right now. You started walking to shields, him still walking with you when lights were called and not a second later a body was reported.
Suddenly there was screaming your ears as Toast and Rae both started accusing each other.
"Wait- Wait WAIT" yelled Poki trying to get them to stop. "What happened?"
"I'll explain" declared Rae, not letting toast get a word in. "We were in navigation okay, me, Toast and Leslie. Lights went out, and suddenly a report buttons there. It's either Toast or someone came in just as lights went out and killed but that doesn't seem likely because I didn't see anyone anywhere near us at all. Anyways I'm fucking telling the truth guys, its Toast, he's the one who did it."
"Toast, do you have anything to say for yourself?" asked Corpse, his voice making your insides shiver.
"Holy shit, this is my soulmate", you thought for the fiftieth time.
"Uh yeah," replied toast. "I didn't do it."
Everyone laughed as he continued.
"Like seriously, I wouldn't do anything like this because it'd be a stupid move from my own part, and I think Raes smart enough to not do this as well. I think someone else came in just as lights went down and killed immediately, which to be honest, was pretty smart of them."
"Okay so I can clear Corpse," you cut in noticing the timer was close. "he was with me in weapons when it happened, he wouldn't have had time to go all the way up, or even vent there because we were literally walking in."
"Yup that's right," confirmed corpse.
"I'm in cafeteria" said Poki.
"Yeah, I saw her on my way to weapons," said Sykkuno, "and I'm in weapons right now,"
"I'm in lower engine" said Sean, and Lily said she was in reactor.
"I think it's Toast," you mumbled and then rose your voice to talk over everyone. "Look okay fine, maybe he said it was a stupid move and he wouldn't do it but maybe he did it for that exact reason. He thought he could get away with it because no one would expect him to do something like that."
As the timer started going down by 10, you voted for Toast and it turned out 3 had skipped the vote while five had voted for him.
damn.
"Guys you actually voted for him?" you said in a high voice, re-enacting one of Sykkunos most said lines.
You heard a "oh for gods sake" from Rae before everyone went silent and you giggled as you moved back down to weapons to do your tasks.
You finished all your tasks and decided to go to security to check where everyone is. Humming as you moved through the electrical hallway, you narrowed your eyes as Corpse came out of electrical and went towards storage. Quickly ducking in you didn't see a body so you headed back out, going into cams and gasping as you saw the body. Reporting immediately you were shocked to see the four kills that had happened. Now only you, Corpse, Sean and Rae were left.
"Oh my god," you mumbled confused. Either there were still two imposters, and Toast wasn't the imposter or the imposter literally killed and did nothing else. Now either that could mean that its definitely Rae if Toast wasn't the imposter, or that it was Corpse as the only imposter left. That was a bit weird though becuase he could have totally killed you at the start of the game. You didn't suspect Sean at all.
"What the fuck?" mumbled Corpse, and Rae made her animal noises expressing her shock.
"Okay," you said taking charge and relaying the kill and your theory to everyone. "So either it was Toast and there's only one other imposter, who is Corpse. Or Toast wasn't an imposter and there's two of them left. I-" you took a deep breath in at the end, very confused. " I don't know anymore,"
"I think its Corpse as well,"
Corpse who hadn't said anything up till this moment suddenly started stammering out "hey-hey uh let-lets not gang up on me okay. It's not-"
"No, wait, its because Y/N said you came out of electrical right, and I saw you in upper engine literally a bit ago and you went down. I went towards cafeteria so I don't know exactly where you went but its totally possible that you killed."
You voted form him after that, convinced it was Corpse, and the other followed quickly.
"Guys what the fuck, at least give me a chance to explain my self" he whined when his body was thrown off the ship seconds later. You cheered when the "VICTORY" sign was displayed across the screen, bringing up your chat and laughing at Toast as he pretended to be angry at me.
"That was a great round, good work Y/N"
"Thankyou" you mumbled staring at your chat. You were confused when you saw the absolute influx of messages on there, and you were barely able to read them because they were going so fast. You scrolled up, and read through the few of the messages;
"You've made corpse sad."
"Corpse has literally been so quite since you came in, can you leave."
"Omg stop with the hate messages, its not her fault if corpse isn't talking to you"
"are you his ex or something? What was that reaction at the start?"
"what did you do? Corpse literally hasn't said a word since you came in."
"Um..."
Corpse POV
Corpses heart stopped for a minute, his breath catching. The words on his wrist glowed gold, and he stared at the little red character standing there.
This person was the reason that he had "PRAISE BINGUS" stretched across his wrist.
They were the only reason that he had searched "Bingus" on google for all of his life. The only reason Corpse knew about the meme before anyone else was because he was constantly monitoring the word online. Ever since March, he had been waiting with bated breath, anxious that he could meet his soulmate at any moment. and here you were.
For some reason, he had never expected that he would meet you in among us, or while he was on stream. He always thought it'd be someone outside. It was a bit stupid in hindsight as all he did nowadays was play among us.
He heard you introduce yourself to him but the only thing that came out of his mouth was “No fucking way”.
Immediately after he wanted to slap himself.
“Idiot” he thought to himself. “At least try to make a good impression.”
When Rae asked what was wrong, heat sprung to his cheeks as he started revealing that they were soulmates, but Y/N cut him off, saying that it was nothing.
Corpse’s heart sank a little then.
'Maybe she’s just a private person,' he reasoned with himself.
'I shouldn’t have tried to say it on stream either. God, I’m a fucking idiot, if I said it, literally everyone would know and not only would I have hated the attention, she probabaly would have as well.'
Convincing himself that she was right, he reassured himself that it wasn’t because of him. She wasn’t revealing it because she probably didn't want all the attention.
For some reason though, his heart sank even more when Y/N didnt talk to him, instead talking to sykkuno about his dog. Like sure he could understand not wanting to reveal they were soulmates but shouldn’t she at least wanna talk to him? At this point he wouldn’t even mind if she talked about his voice like everyone else.
He groaned when the word "Imposter" came across his screen, his and Toasts character standing together. He was not in the right mindset right now to be able to be a good imposter. Breathing in deeply he continued in the game, with the first round passing by quick. The second round, he saw Y/N and stood with her for a bit wondering if he should kill her. Her red character moved to weapons and he sighed moving the mouse over the kill button. Just as he was thinking of clicking a body was found. Corpse swore as Toast flew off the ship. Deciding he needed to speed it up he killed four people in the round, hissing when the meeting was called. The moment Y/N accused him, he knew it was over. He didn't even bother defending himself much, just hoping the game would end soon.
When they were in the lobby, he quickly told everyone that he was going to leave because his internet was acting up. Turning off the stream after saying a quick thank you to everyone, he leaned back in his seat breathing through his nose.
What the fuck was his life.
Even his soulmate didnt want him. Honestly, he should have expected this. Abandoned at 12 with no one around him, why did his expect his soulmate to even give a fuck about him. Tears pricked his eyes and he blinked trying to get rid of them. He breathed in deeply, grabbing the water on the table and taking a big gulp. He had never hated himself more than he did right now. Why couldnt he have an easier life.
“Why cant I just fucking be NORMAL” he yelled throwing the empty bottle of water at the wall.
Throwing himself into bed, he scrunched up his eyes, hoping that sleep would come today, not noticing as his phone lit up with a single message.
Your POV
You stayed for another game and then ducked out apologizing and making an excuse up.
"Sorry it was such a short stream, everyone," you said pouting at the camera. "It was fun though so hopefully I get to do it again." Waving goodbye, you turned off the camera and leaned your head back staring at the ceiling.
What the actual fuck.
Grabbing your phone, you stared at it for a bit. Everything that you had pushed to the back of your mind in the game, was suddenly in the forefront.
The only thing you knew about Corpse was that he had a really deep voice, he narrated horror movies, and he maybe did music?
'Rae mentioned that once right?' you thought to yourself.
You unlocked the phone and then locked it again, too scared to actually do anything.
Unlocked.
Locked.
Unlocked.
Locked.
"Oh get a grip," you muttered to yourself, opening the phone and sending a text to Rae.
‘Hey Rae, do you have corpses number? Do you mind sending it to me, I need to tell him something.’
A reply came in a minute,
‘umm, why. he's pretty private so idk i don't rlly wanna give his number if he doesn't want someone to have it’
You sighed, and decided you might as well tell her. You knew Rae wouldn't betray your trust.
‘He's my soulmate’
Immediately a ‘AHDJHAKJKAGDAK’ came as a reply and you giggled at the string of emojis after it.
‘Don't tell anyone,’ you sent quickly, trying to calm her down.
‘Okay okay, its XXX - XXX - XXXX, ASHAGDH IM DYING OMG. GO TALK TO HIM.’
Biting your lip you added Corpse into your contacts hesitating before putting a small black heart next to his name.
"Already simping," you mumbled under your breath, hands hovering over the keyboard as you struggled to think of what to write.
You finally decided on 'Hey, its Y/N, can I call?' thinking that something short would be the best way to go. Hand hovering over the send button, you sucked in a breath and pressed it, waiting with bated breath.
A minute passed.
And then five.
And then, without you even you realising, it'd been half an hour of you just looking at your phone.
An hour later, you were slumped on your desk, eyes closed and snoring lightly, the phone still open, the message you sent lighting up the screen.
Life Sucks
Pairing: Lee Know x reader
Word Count: 10K (I know.....this was a surprise for me, too)
Genre: fluff, romantic comedy
Warnings: language (our characters have a tendency to curse, apparently)
Summary: Sunshine reader is in love with love, but hasn’t had much luck with it herself.  When she meets Minho, a self-proclaimed cynic and disbeliever of “true love”, she’s determined to change his life.  If she can’t find the love of her life, she’s going to try to find his.
This fic was inspired by a tag game once upon a time.  It was supposed to be a short drabble, but apparently I can’t hold back with Minho.  Tag game featured this specific Lee Know and just kinda spiraled from there lol
Tumblr media
Nearing the end of January, winter sometimes seemed endless.  Yet when you stepped out into the morning chill, you were pleasantly surprised to find the snow banks melting a bit.  Your boots splashed through small puddles as you strode down the street, and you smiled softly at the lavender sky.  It was still early enough—for a Saturday—that the sidewalks weren’t too packed yet, so you indulged in a more leisurely walk than usual, dancing along to the music from your headphones.  You caught a few odd looks, but you simply smiled and waved at everyone you passed.  They could judge your happiness all they wanted, nothing could possibly spoil your day when it was off to such a good start—
“Shit,” you gasped, jumping back onto the curb as a car barrelled through a red light.  Had you been a second slower, you would’ve been a vehicular manslaughter case.  “Asshole,” you hollered after them, flipping two middle fingers in the air.
You exhaled a sharp breath through your nose, attempting to banish the exasperation and get back into your music again.  More careful this time, you double checked both ways down the street before entering the crosswalk.
Unfortunately, your streak of bad luck continued.  Just as you hopped off the street, a truck passed by behind you, tires bumping through a pothole.  And with the recent snowmelt, this resulted in a spray of cold water hitting the backs of your legs.
You froze, mind stuttering as you tried to comprehend how the morning had taken such a turn, all within your first five minutes outside.  Pursing your lips, you twisted around to inspect the damage.  The dirty water might stain your jeans, but the most pressing matter was the cold and wet denim now plastered to your legs from your calves to the backs of your knees.  You bit your lip, contemplating just turning back and spending the whole day in your apartment.  Pajamas, a blanket, hot coffee and tea readily available.  Maybe a movie, just because you could.
Then you shook your head, determined to make the best of the day.  You wanted a cappuccino, dammit.  And chocolate babka from the cafe.  No homicidal drivers or puddles could stop you.  It was a Saturday, just past sunrise, and you had a whole day ahead of you.  No need to wallow a few minutes in.  And besides, who knew what would happen.
You set off for the cafe, determination heavy in each step.  You forced a smile back onto your lips, though it was thinner than before.  You switched to a different playlist so that your boots could thump the concrete in time.  And you breathed, spooling calmness back into yourself.
It was a Saturday.  You might meet the love of your life today.  And nothing could stop you from finding out.
The bell over the front door jingled merrily, and you softened a little further, relaxing into the familiar surroundings.  You hardly even noticed the damp denim chafing your legs as you skipped up to the counter.
Ruth, currently manning the register, chuckled as she rang up another customer.  “Well would you look at that, the sun came shining right in our front door,” she said.
“Good morning,” you giggled.  You waved to Jonathan, Ruth’s husband, in the back.  The couple had been running the little cafe and bakery for years, and you were a faithful customer, coming by at least once a week since you first moved to the neighborhood.
“Morning, Sunshine,” he called, hands busy kneading dough for what would doubtless become something delicious.  You hummed thoughtfully, considering the baked goods in the glass case before you.
“Your usual?”
You tapped a finger on your chin, “You know, the poppy seed muffins look awfully tempting.  I might just have to switch it up today.”
Ruth nodded, tapping on the register.  You handed over the requisite bills and she shooed you off, sliding the muffin over the counter.  “Go on now, a table opened up by the window, perfect spot.  I’ll bring the coffee in a minute.”
“Thank you,” you said, but Ruth was already fussing over the espresso machine.  Shaking your head, you weave through the maze of tables and chairs, dodging patrons on your way to the window seat.
You had your eyes on the prize, and you were only a few feet from the chair when you pulled up short.  A stranger, their back to you, plopped down in your chair.  You blinked, suddenly and painfully aware of your wet pants, the muffin growing cool in your hand, the fact that you could give up now and walk home but perhaps you’d just get hit by a car and never get a chance to enjoy your breakfast.  You sighed deeply, breathing out through your nose as you closed your eyes, seeking inner peace or something.
“Can I help you?”
The voice knocked you out of your momentary meditation, and you looked at the table thief in surprise.  He loosened the fluffy scarf around his neck before sliding his arms out of his winter coat.  A beret, of all things, tilted dangerously to the side before he adjusted it on his head.  He looked like some kind of absent-minded professor, but for the youthful features that peered up at you.  A sharp nose, tinted red from the cold, and a soft mouth.  Dark and depthless eyes, paired with high cheekbones and a cutting jawline.
You realized you were staring when he waved at you, eyes widened.  “Hello?”
“Um, sorry, I just,” you stammered, lost for words.
“Do you want to sit or something?”
You stopped again, mouth dropping open.  You checked the time—you had fifteen minutes or so, enough time for another table to open up.  “Uh, sure, if that’s ok with you.  I was hoping for a table, I’m meeting someone,” you said, beginning to ramble.
“No problem, I don’t need all this space, and I’ll head out soon,” he cut you off, raising one brow at you when you continued to stand there, rooted to the spot.
Ruth’s arrival with your cappuccino was what ultimately forced your hand.  You sat down, gratefully accepting the drink, your smile less shaky with a taste of the familiar.
“I didn’t think they did table service,” the stranger mused.
“They don’t, I just know the owners,” you shook your head, cutting yourself off when you saw his disinterest.  “Sorry, I should introduce myself,” you switched tacks, giving your name with a bright grin.  So what if it was forced?
The stranger looked at you, and his lips twitched in a shadow of a smirk.  “Minho,” he responded.
Silence fell, heavy and awkward, and you found yourself leaning forward desperately.  “So how’s your day so far?”
Minho snorted, reaching for his own drink—an iced americano, you guessed, despite it being the middle of winter.  “Probably better than yours.”
“What?” your brows furrowed in confusion.
He gestured to your legs with one hand.  “Unfortunate accident this morning?”
Your lips tightened, holding back a frown, “Puddles, you know.”
Minho sighed, sounding sympathetic now, rather than snarky.  “Yeah, life sucks, doesn’t it?”  And there was the sarcasm again.
“One or two bad things doesn’t mean life sucks,” you countered, sipping your coffee.  “I’m excited about the rest of the day, it’s not even eight in the morning!  And it’s the weekend, and it’s sunny and warm, and I have hot coffee and a delicious muffin, and the world is out there and ready to be enjoyed,” you finished, lips curling up as you looked out the window at the sunrise, the horizon flaming golden.
“Sounds like you’ve never had a job,” a harsh voice cut into your admiration.  Your smile faltered as you looked back at Minho.  You gaped at him, brain processing the way this soft-looking boy sounded like the king of cynics.  The last thing you expected from someone wearing a fuzzy beret and looking like a sly teddy bear was this blunt conversation.  “No one’s that excited when they have to work fifty plus hour weeks to pay the bills.  Trust fund baby?” he inquired, sipping calmly.
Yep, there was no fighting the frown now.  “No, and I don’t appreciate the judgement.  Why can’t I just be happy?”
Minho smirked, “Never said you can’t.  I just wanted to see if you had a personality beyond being Positive Polly.”
Your eyes flamed, but your phone buzzed, distracting you before you could smite the snarky boy.  You fumbled at your coat pocket, whipping out the device to check for a new message.  You slumped—just a spam email.
“Waiting for something important?” Minho asked, tilting his head.
You huffed, shoving the device back in your pocket.  “As a matter of fact, yes,” you sassed, tossing your hair over one shoulder.  “I’m waiting for a date.”
He hummed at you, expression unreadable.  “You’re too excited.”
“What do you mean?” you asked, eyeing the clock on the far wall of the cafe.
“You’re significantly early, watching the clock like a hawk, and they haven’t even texted you an update.”  He took a long sip.  “What time is your date anyway?  Eight in the morning?  They’re not coming.”
Your smile faltered again.  Damn him, why was a total stranger dimming your joy?  You shoved your chair back, even though no tables had opened up yet.  You’d wait by the counter and chat with Ruth.  Anything was better than this asshole.
Minho glanced over his shoulder, checking the clock himself.  “Five past, and still nothing,” he commented.
“Fuck you,” you spat.
A spark appeared in his eyes, and he grinned.  “Good to see you have some backbone,” he commented.
You could’ve sworn steam was coming out of your ears, but your phone vibrated again.  You checked the lock screen, seeing a new text pop up from Jay: hey I can’t make it.  You swiped on the message, but nothing followed it.  Seriously?  That was it?  No explanation, and not even a half-assed apology?
“Told you so.”
You spun to face Minho, glare renewed.  “And what makes you so sure of yourself and my date?” you demanded.
He snorted, “Life sucks; so does dating.  The only thing you’re guaranteed is disappointment.”
Your anger faded slightly as you watched the boy sip his iced coffee, his silhouette stark against the snow outside.  When you took a breath to get past your own mingled frustration—both at Jay and your new snarky companion—you saw the tense lines of his face.  You wondered what disappointment had left Minho so defensive.
“Alright, enlighten me,” you said, throwing yourself back in the chair.  This time, you settled in, sliding out of your coat and leaning forward with your coffee.  “Who broke your heart?”
A look of disgust slid over those pretty features.  “No one broke anything,” he scoffed, turning to the window and giving you another dose of his sharp profile.  You rested your chin on your hand thoughtfully, just watching him and waiting.  “Stop looking at me like that,” he muttered.  “You’re not my therapist.”
“But I am a perfectly kind stranger.  And strangers are the easiest people to talk to,” you said sunnily.
“And don’t sound so happy.”
“No can do, people call me Sunshine for a reason.”
Minho gave a long-suffering sigh.  “I’m not calling you that.”
Now you were the one with a cocky smirk, “Why, does it hurt your delicate masculinity?”
A beat of silence, and then, “One of my best friends is called Sunshine.”  Minho looked at you sharply.  “I’m not calling you that,” he said again.
You waved him off, oddly touched in spite of his gruff tone.  This human version of grumpy cat had a best friend named Sunshine?  Incredible, and surprisingly soft of him.  “Ok fine, no arguments from me.  Tell me about her.  Or him, whoever it is,” you stumbled over your words.
Minho didn’t seem to notice your blundering.  He stared somewhere beyond your shoulder, “No one broke my heart.”  Then his eyes focused on you again as he asserted, “I’ve just experienced enough to know better than to hope blindly.  The world isn’t looking out for you.”
Humming, you folded your arms as you considered his statements.  “Well, I believe in true love,” you started.
“Why am I not surprised?”  Minho groaned, rolling his eyes.
“I also believe in the power of positive thinking,” you continued as if he hadn’t spoken.  Ignoring his dramatic moaning, you steamrolled ahead.  “Yeah, my morning turned out pretty shitty, but if I just go crawl back in bed, I’ll have wasted a whole day over something as silly as wet jeans.”
“Wet jeans and being stood up.”
“And being stood up,” you allowed, gritting your teeth to maintain a smile.  “But if I let that stop me from living my life, then I’ve let the negative win.  If I go check out a new dating app or two and keep trying, one day I’ll have something good.”
Minho put his coffee down, resting one hand on the table as he met your eyes, gaze hard.  “Listen, nothing good comes out of a dating app.  You’re wasting your time.  And didn’t you say you hate doing that?”
You wanted to argue, but your friends had told you much of the same.  Minho was just less polite in his delivery.  But you hadn’t had any luck with real life men, either.  Case in point: your irritating argument with the perfectly attractive guy in front of you.  So that left apps, even if the pickings were regrettably slim.  And only growing slimmer, if the ghost date was any indication.  You didn’t have the guts to tell Minho that this wasn’t the first time you’d been stood up.
Then you had an idea.  Your grin widened, and Minho’s irritated expression faded into apprehension.  “Well if I’m doomed to never find love,” you started, batting your eyelashes teasingly.  “Why don’t I look for the love of your life instead?”
Minho blanched, recoiling with enough force that his chair rocked back on two legs.  “Yeah, no.  I don’t think so, sweetheart.”
“I think it’s a terrific idea,” you beamed at him.  “I’ve been a successful matchmaker for a bunch of my friends, too.  I’ve just had trouble finding my own love interest.”
“What is this, a rom com?” he hissed.
You clapped your hands, overcome with excitement for the first time since the puddle.  “Oh, a romance, I wish,” you nearly swooned at the thought.  “I promise I’ll do my best.  You’d get along great with one of my friends, they’re just as irritable as you.”
Minho exhaled sharply, massaging his forehead with one hand.  He closed his eyes, muttering, “What am I doing here?”
“Wait, wait, I’m getting ahead of myself.  No matchmaking until I know you better,” you amended, whipping out a notebook and pen from your bag.  You had just about everything in there—you never knew what emergency might pop up, like brainstorming a match for a stranger.  “What are some of your hobbies?  Favorite color?  Ooh, what about first date activities you love?  Oh my goodness, wait, are you looking for men or women?”
Part of you expected Minho to shove his chair back and leave.  You wouldn’t be too upset, that just meant you’d have the table to yourself, even if you weren’t waiting on a date anymore.  But you didn’t totally hate this guy.  And another part of you kind of felt bad for him.  He’d never experienced love!  Not that you’d had a taste of true love, either, but you knew what was out there.  And it was a shame that he didn’t see that too.  It was like...someone hating your favorite holiday—unacceptable, if only because you wanted everyone to enjoy it as much as you did.
You begrudgingly admitted that another teeny tiny part of you thought he was too attractive to be so cynical of love.  Some lucky girl out there was waiting for Minho, and you were gonna help her out, even if it meant dragging the man kicking and screaming towards her.
But Minho didn’t do what you expected.  He didn’t storm off, coffee in hand, scarf flapping in the wind dramatically.  He sighed and stood up, but made no move for his coat.  “If we’re doing this, I need more coffee,” he said, then turned and made a beeline for the counter without any further explanation.
You blinked after him, more than a bit surprised.  He was...going along with this?  You tapped the pen against your chin thoughtfully, watching his shoulders flex beneath his turtleneck as he talked to Ruth.  His head turned slightly, and you caught a glimpse of his smile—a real one—taking your breath away.
Now, if only you could get him to smile like that for any potential dates.  You clicked your pen with renewed vigor, laughing when Minho approached with a new coffee, exasperation written into every line of his face.
* * * * *
It was a lovely Thursday night, and you were curled up on the couch in your comfiest pajamas.  Your only companions were a blanket, a mug of tea, and your phone, which you checked every fifteen seconds.  The first time all week that Minho hadn’t answered your messages, and it was the night of his first date.  You were buzzing with anticipation, practically vibrating as you waited for news, not caring who it came from first.
Finally, you gave up waiting, throwing the blanket as you went to reheat your tea, since you’d let it grow cold while refreshing your messages.  The second you reached the kitchen, however, you heard a buzz.  You dashed to the couch, scrambling for your phone to find a text from Mari:
He had to dip early, lame date
You nearly screeched.  He left?  Your fingers pounded the screen:
What!?!?!! Did he say whyyy?
Mari’s response was short and to the point:
An “emergency”
You could read between the lines.  Mari was irritated, to say the least, since the blind date had been your brilliant idea.  But what on earth had happened with Minho?  Your stomach dropped, considering that he might have an actual emergency.  You quickly tapped out a message to him to check in, gnawing your lip in worry.
Hey, Mari said you had an emergency, is everything ok?
You waited what felt like ten thousand years before finally seeing the little bubbles appear.  His message, however, was not worth the wait:
Didn’t get on with her
You fumed, pressing dial on his contact with enough force, you were amazed your screen didn’t crack.  “You left because you didn’t like her?” you screeched as soon as he picked up.
“Yes.”
Gaping like a fish, you fumbled for words to explain how bad that was.  “You can’t just—”
“But I did,” Minho cut you off.
“But you can’t,” you said, exasperated.  “Jeez, I thought you knew what you were doing.  Obviously not.  You need a practice date or something so my friends don’t murder you.”
Now it was Minho’s turn to squawk indignantly.  “I do not need practice,” he started.
“Yes, obviously you do.  You might look like a player but you’ve obviously never talked to a girl for more than ten minutes,” you scolded him.  “Who leaves in the middle of a date?  With that bad of an excuse?”
“I hate wasting my time.  Didn’t we discuss how we should avoid doing that with our love lives,” he snarked.
You groaned, “There’s a difference between not wasting your time and being rude as heck.”
“So what?  She was abrasive, rude, cynical, and had a terrible sense of humor,” Minho said, as casually as if he was discussing the weather.  “I can’t believe you’re friends.”
“That’s a pretty great description of you, too,” you sassed back, irritation taking over.  “We might not be that close, but you can’t just insult everyone I set you up with.”
“Who said I wanted you to set me up with anyone?”
“I assumed you did, otherwise why are you going along with this?” you tried your best to calm down, lower your voice.  But something about Minho just put your back up.
“Uh,” Minho actually seemed lost for words.  Your ears perked up, eager to catch his answer.  “My mom wants to set me up with her friends’ daughters,” he tossed out at last.
Seemed a bit too easy.  “Sure,” you drawled, leaning back on the couch.
“Yes, really,” he sneered, and you giggled, picturing the exact expression on his face.
“Ok, whatever you say,” you allowed, laughing slightly.  “But you’re still going on a practice date.  Tomorrow night, six o’clock.  Meet me at the cafe.  If you’re not there, I’m gonna find your mom and help her out.”
You hung up on him before he could argue with you, grinning madly as you concocted your plan.
* * * * *
You half expected to wait for Minho to show up, much like your friend did, but much to your surprise, he was waiting for you under the awning when you arrived.  “You’re late,” Minho accused, and you grinned sheepishly.  You may or may not have lied about the time.  Just in case.
“The queen is never late.  Everyone else is simply early,” you quipped.  Minho rolled his eyes—absolutely what you expected.  You giggled, linking your arm through his and tugging him down the sidewalk with you.
“Woah,” Minho yanked at his arm, trying to free himself.  “If you wanted to hold hands, you could have asked.”
“You’re too much of a grinch, you’d just say no.”
“Exactly.  It’s called consent, sweetheart.”
He nearly fell at the sudden freedom when you released him, shoving your hands deeper into your pockets to escape the chill.  “Alright, follow me then, you unromantic dork.”  He muttered under his breath as you skipped away, having fun despite his attitude.  Time to show him what a real date looked like.
Five seconds later, and not even two blocks from the cafe, Minho groaned, “Are we there yet?”
“No.”
A pause, then, “Where are we going?”
“It’s a surprise,” you told him, not for the first time.  He’d texted you all night, demanding to know, but your lips were sealed.
Except a certain someone seemed determined to annoy the answers out of you.  “Are we there yet?”
You sighed, your skip feeling a little less peppy.  “No.”
“Are we—”
“Minho,” you ground out.  “If you ask me that one more time, I’m taking you to get your nails done.”
“Ok, sure.  I could use a bit of pampering,” he said, the epitome of casual.
You stared at him.  “This feels like a trick,” you said slowly.
A grin flashed, “That’s because it is.  It’s after six, they’re all closed by now.”  But then he frowned slightly.  “Now you have me wanting a manicure though, I’ve never gotten one.”
Your brows were practically in your hairline but you just nodded.  “Ok, another time, then,” you agreed.  You caught sight of a familiar street sign and quickened your steps.  “Almost there,” you were nearly vibrating in excitement.  You felt Minho’s eyes on you, your skin prickling with awareness, but you ignored him in favor of racing around the street corner.  And there it was—the zoo!  All lit up...all lit…...not lit up at all.  Your feet stumbled to a halt.
“So the zoo is open at night now?” Minho inquired at your shoulder.
You gaped at the dark expanse before you.  “But where are the lights?”  Because indeed, not a single light was on in the zoo.  You’d just visited, not too long ago, and they had been open for night visits, so guests could walk around and see the trees all lit up, and wave hello to a few animals in the enclosures.
“Lights?”
“The Christmas lights,” you cried out, frantic.  “They were up the last time I was here.”
“You mean a month ago?  For Christmas?  Back when it was still December?” Minho questioned you.  You nearly snapped back before you realized.  It was January.  February next week.  Of course the lights were down, what kind of idiot were you?
You groaned in defeat, slumping against the wall and sliding down to a crouch.  You threw your arms over your head.  “I don’t know what we’re going to do, then.  I’m sorry I made you walk all this way,” you mumbled into your knees, wishing you could disappear into the sidewalk.  Gosh, and you’d really dragged him along, hadn’t you?  He obviously hadn’t been that excited, and all of your mysterious “it’s a surprise” nonsense only made this a bigger disappointment.
“It’s a Friday night, things are still open, you know,” Minho pointed out.  “So what if you somehow forgot a whole month happened.  I forget the year sometimes.”
“What are you, an old man?” you tried to perk up, but the tease fell flat.
“I’m only twenty-two.  You must be ancient.”  You picked up your head to look at him.  A faint smile curled on his lips as he played along.
“Oh my gosh, I’m your noona.  If you’re a grandpa, then I’m practically in the grave,” you forced out a chuckle.
Minho’s smile grew, and he extended a hand.  “Come on, get up.  Night’s still young.”
For a moment, you simply stared at his hand.  Then you met his dark gaze, “You aren’t going to take advantage of this?  I thought you hated the whole practice date idea.”
He sighed, wiggling his fingers at you.  “I don’t hate spending time with you, alright?  Now get up or I’m leaving you here.”
Your mouth twitched, a true smile threatening to form, and not just a cover-up.  You slid your hand in his gratefully, and Minho pulled you to your feet with more strength than you thought he had.  You blinked at him, realizing he hadn’t let your hand go yet.  But the second his eyes followed your gaze, he dropped it, sliding his hands into his pants pockets instead.
“So where to?” Minho asked.
You opened your mouth to respond, remembering a pretty little outdoor skating rink, but the skies cracked open, interrupting you with a sudden deluge.  You gasped as the first fat raindrops splattered on your forehead, eyes widening before you made a mad dash for the nearest storefront, Minho already a few steps ahead of you.
You’d barely been in the rain for a minute, but the icy water had your teeth chattering already.  Had it been any colder, this would’ve been pretty snow.  Instead, you got an arctic firehose.
Arms wrapped tightly around yourself, you peered down the street.  Beside you, Minho checked a weather app, hissing through his teeth.  “Looks like rain all night,” he muttered.
You groaned again, wanting to cry.  You’d completely messed up the evening, first with the lights, and now by not checking the weather.  You’d planned an outdoor date, why hadn’t you checked?
A hand brushed your shoulder lightly, barely detectable through your coat.  “Um, this might not be what you had planned, but my apartment is actually on this street.  Wanna just order pizza?”
Your first instinct was a vehement “no”, but you stopped that answer on the tip of your tongue.  Minho wasn’t one of the sleazy guys you’d gone out with in the past, the ones who’d thought an apartment invite was more than that.  Plus, this wasn’t a real date or anything.  It was a practice date, just pals, nothing crazy about that.  So why couldn’t you grab pizza at his place?  Especially with the monsoon and a long walk back to your own place.  And no umbrella.
You found yourself nodding, shivers wracking your body.  Minho’s teeth flashed in another fierce grin, “Alright, sweetheart, let’s make a run for it.  In three, two, one—”
The two of you raced down the slick sidewalks, dodging lampposts and puddles alike.  You skidded to a stop at one of the apartment buildings, nearly slamming into Minho’s back as he yanked the door open, and the two of you tumbled into the warm lobby.  Once out of the wet, Minho shook his head like a dog, water droplets spraying everywhere, and you shrieked, hands coming up to protect yourself.
“Sorry,” Minho laughed, not sounding apologetic in the least.  “I’m on the sixth floor, so we can take the elevator,” he said, pointing you in the right direction.
The ride up was awkward; the only sound was your jacket zipper rattling from the force of your shivers.  Minho unlocked the door to his apartment, waving a hand dramatically.  You stepped inside tentatively, toeing off your boots by the door.  You watched Minho follow suit, then pad over to a closet along one wall.  Your confusion abated when he emerged with towels, passing one to you with raised brows.  The two of you were still soaking wet, and you didn’t want to track rainwater all over his apartment.
Minho was already drying his head off one-handed.  When he stopped, letting the towel slip down to rest on his shoulders, you giggled at the sight of his hair.  He made a face, only adding to the comic effect of his hair standing on end.
“I know you drink coffee, but what about hot tea?” he asked, making his way to the kitchen while you continued to dab at your clothes.
You nodded enthusiastically, eyeing the space from where you stood in the entryway.  It was pretty minimal, not a ton of color or anything, but cozy.  Black couch, gray curtains, some photos on the wall.  Fairly tidy, but definitely nothing out of a magazine.  A meow at your feet interrupted your train of thought, and you looked down to coo at the cats that were slowly approaching.  “Well aren’t you gorgeous,” you complimented the bravest of the three, who nosed at your hand gingerly.
“Soonie, Doongi, and Dori,” Minho said, pointing at each cat in turn.  He leaned on the counter while waiting for the water to boil.
“They’re adorable,” you beamed at him.  “And much more friendly.”
“Hey,” he narrowed his eyes.  “I’m friendly.”
“Yeah, right,” you laughed at him.  Your mirth was interrupted by a fierce shiver, reminding you that you might not be dripping wet, but your clothes were still icy cold.
Minho eyed you as you wrapped your arms around yourself.  “I have sweats you can borrow.”
You started to protest, but the next shudder of cold made you change your mind.  Besides, you didn’t want to get his furniture soaking wet.  So you nodded and waited while Minho disappeared into the bedroom.  You shuffled awkwardly to the kitchen, toes curling in your socks.
Minho reappeared.  “Here,” he said, voice gruff.  He pressed a pair of sweatpants into your hands, along with a fuzzy looking sweatshirt.  Your turtleneck wasn’t too wet, just a little damp along the neckline, but you slid the extra layer over your head gratefully.  Before you had to ask him, Minho pointed to a half-open door.  “The bathroom.  I’m going to get something dry on, too,” he added.
You smiled in relief, escaping to the small bathroom gratefully.  As soon as the door was shut, you were scrabbling at the soaking wet denim, peeling it down your legs.  You grimaced, not missing this experience at all after the last time.  Minho’s sweatpants were soft and oh so warm by comparison.  And fleece-lined, too.  You slung your jeans over the shower rod to dry, rolled the ankles of your borrowed pants—just enough so you wouldn’t be drowning in excess material—and went in search of that promised hot tea.
You found Minho on the phone in the kitchen.  When he noticed you, he waved you closer.  “Do you like anything on your pizza?” he asked.
“Um,” you scrambled to collect your thoughts.  “Cheese?”
Minho cracked a smile.  “Cheese it is then.  And peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes, garlic, basil,” he rattled off what sounded like an entire grocery list.  When he noticed you staring, Minho raised his brows in confusion.  You shook your head with a small laugh, leaving him to it.  On the counter behind him, you found two mugs, tea bags already steeping.  You wrapped your cold fingers around one, humming in contentment.  Finally, the shivers stopped.
“Wanna watch a movie while we wait for pizza?” Minho asked, but then he froze, grimacing.  “Oh shit, sorry.  I mean, you can go home if you want.  I don’t mean to keep you if you don’t want to stay.  I have an umbrella, and you can keep the sweats I guess—”
“Sure how about a romance?” you interrupted him, grabbing your tea and making your way to the couch.  You plopped down, eyeing Minho, who was still stiff as a board by the counter.  You giggled at him, “Maybe you’ll learn a thing or two from Mr. Darcy.”
That seemed to knock him out of his stupor.  An indignant expression wiped away any trace of sheepishness, and he stomped over to find the remote.  “Yeah right,” he scoffed.  “I’m not watching a romance.”
“A romantic comedy then,” you decided, snatching the remote out of his hands.
He grabbed it back, lightning quick.  “Action.”
You narrowed your eyes, crossing your arms defiantly.  “Drama.  Fight me and I’ll demand a Hallmark movie.”
Minho smirked, “Fight me and I’ll make it a horror movie.”
You groaned in disgust, glaring at him.  “Ok, fine, let’s fight over it.  Rock, paper, scissors?”
He rolled his eyes, but ended up on the couch beside you, holding one fist out to meet yours.  “Best out of three,” he smirked.  “Get ready for a zombie fest.”
After a crushing defeat, Minho slumped on the couch, moaning dramatically when you selected Pride and Prejudice.  You giggled at the grumpy man beside you, and his similarity to Mr. Darcy.  Most notably their matching pouts.
To your surprise, Minho didn’t interrupt the movie once.  Sure, he grumbled at first, but when you snuck a peek at him after about half an hour, you caught him watching intently.
You’d seen the movie at least a dozen times by now, but you still couldn’t resist the pull, and your heart fluttered at the brush of hands the way it did every time.  Your breath caught at every interaction, and you couldn’t tear your eyes away to save your life.  Until the pizza arrived, at least.  You were about to press play, two slices at the ready, when Minho looked over at you.  “Why are you so in love with the idea of love?” he asked.
You gaped at him for a moment, taken aback.  “What?”
“Not just the movie, but real life,” he said, twisting to face you fully.  “Why are you so determined to find Mr. Right?  Or to set me up on the perfect date?”
“Don’t you want to find someone?” you questioned him, backing away from the question.  “You can’t possibly be putting up with me just to avoid your mom playing matchmaker.  I’m literally no better than that.”
He scoffed, “You haven’t met my mother.”
“Maybe I should team up with her.”
“Oh please no.”
You grinned, grabbing a slice of pizza.  “Oh please yes,” you teased.  “Two matchmakers are better than one.”
Minho shot you an unimpressed look.  “I told her I already have a girlfriend, but I felt bad lying to her, so I’m hanging out with you instead.”
You nearly choked on your pizza.  So you were a pity friend, great.  Or worse, you weren’t even real friends, you were just a convenient excuse to alleviate Minho’s guilt complex.  You set the slice back down, no longer hungry.
“Hey, you know I’m joking, right?  That was a joke.  I’m sarcastic all the time, remember?” Minho nudged you.
“Yeah, sure.”
Minho sighed, leaning over to bump his shoulder into yours.  “I might not love the matchmaking, or this dumb movie, but I guess I’m glad we bumped into each other so I could tell you to dump ghost boy from Tinder.”  You snorted, biting back a small smile.  Noticing this, Minho forged ahead, “And this better not be part of the act to get me to forget my first question, because you still haven’t answered.”
“Minho,” you whined.  “Why does it matter?”
“Pretend it’s girls night.  We’re practically having a sleepover, minus the nail polish and braids.  This is the part where we talk about boys,” he smirked.
“I hate you.”
“Do we need to watch 10 Things I Hate About You next?”
Your brows rose.  “I thought you didn’t like romance, how do you even know that movie?”
“.....No reason.  Now answer the question already,” he huffed.
You sighed, curling up on your end of the couch.  “I guess it’s just something I’m not good at, so I can’t help wanting it to fall in my lap,” you said.  “I can’t pull all nighters to find love, that’s not how it works.”
“Well no, studying isn’t the answer,” Minho agreed.
“My parents have the kind of love I want.  I’m not rosy-eyed or anything, I know it’s hard work and commitment.  But the friendship—that’s what I love the most.”
The two of you sat in silence for a little while, Minho chewing on your words.  And you mused on your recent attempts to find a partner.  Perhaps dating apps weren’t the way to go, you admitted.  Not to Minho, though.  He’d never let you hear the end of it.
“Maybe,” Minho started.  “You should look for new friends instead of new boyfriends.”
“What do you think this is?” you laughed.  “I’ve been setting you up, not looking on Tinder or whatever for myself.”
“Good, you’ve wasted enough time on those trash apps already,” he groused.
You grinned at him, “So I guess you don’t want me to start looking for Bumble girls, huh?”
“Don’t even think about it.”
You giggled, but Minho pressed play on the movie before you could tease him any more.  To your surprise, he looked as interested in the ending as you were.  You doubted he was misty-eyed like you, though.
A yawn snuck up on you, and you glanced at the clock in surprise.  How had it gotten so late?  “I should probably be going,” you started.
“I’ll walk you home.  It’s late.”  Minho grabbed your dishes to bring to the sink, snatching them right out of your hands.  You blinked after him, then shrugged, making your way to the bathroom.
Unfortunately, your jeans were still damp, but they’d be fine for the walk home.  You squeezed yourself back into the denim, emerging with the borrowed sweatpants.  “Laundry?” you asked, since Minho was busy with the dishes.
“Just inside the bedroom, next to the door,” he gestured with his chin, hands still sudsy.
You slid the sweatshirt off as well, placing both in the hamper by the door.  Despite your curiosity, you didn’t linger, but you caught a glimpse of an equally tidy bedroom.  And a large bed with dark sheets.  Why was your heart pounding?  Mr. Darcy hadn’t been that distracting.  You shook your head, hurrying out of the room.  Only then you came face-to-face with Minho, and you had to fight a blush.  What on earth was wrong with you?
The awkwardness continued, and you felt strange and itchy the whole walk home with Minho.  You were hyper aware of how close you were under the umbrella, of the way your elbows brushed every few steps.  Minho was surprisingly quiet, as well.  Ordinarily, he’d be making fun of you by now.
As you walked the last block together, you tilted your head to look at him.  “So tonight was a fail,” you said.
“What the heck are you talking about?”
“The practice date?” you giggled at his expression.  “Total failure.”
Minho’s frown deepened, “I thought it was fun.  Even if you made me watch a period drama.”
“Oh no, it was wonderful, but the date part of it was a bust.  We need to do another, since tonight doesn’t count,” you told him, slowing to a stop in front of your building’s entrance.
“Well what does count?” Minho asked, exasperation dripping from his tone.
“Hmm, something in public.  No one ever does a private first date, and obviously that’s what you need the most help with,” you sassed.  “Maybe I’ll kick your ass in laser tag or something.”
“Maybe I should beat you in bowling,” Minho retorted.
You hummed, tapping a finger off your chin.  “You might be onto something, actually.  How about you come up with our next practice date.  That’s your homework.”
“Since when is this a class?  With homework assignments?” Minho demanded.
“Oh shut it, or I’m making profiles for you on every dating app I know.”
* * * * *
You looked over at Minho, suspicion tugging at you.  “So when you said you should beat me at bowling, did you mean it?”
“I’m going to try and win at whatever we do, I’m competitive like that,” Minho said, holding the door open for you.
“No, I mean, are you secretly a professional bowler or something?” you corrected, making your way towards the shoe rental.
Minho chuckled, “I doubt you’ll believe whatever I say.”
You opened your mouth to object, but decided he was right.  “You better not be hustling me,” you threatened, slapping cash down on the counter.
“Pay per game or pay per hour?” the attendant asked.
Minho cheekily slid a few bills beside yours.  “Best out of three?”
“Insufferable,” you muttered, watching as the attendant took his money instead of yours.
At least Minho looked just as goofy as you did.  The brightly colored bowling shoes looked very out of place against his “cool guy” outfit.  You’d already poked fun at him.  Who showed up to a date wearing sweats?  Not that he looked bad in them, but you had at least dressed up a bit.  Then again, you might not have worn a dress if you had known that bowling was on the agenda.  You tugged at the sleeves of your sweater dress, feeling a bit out of place as you looked at all of the other couples.  Jeans, slacks, more jeans...why had you decided to dress up?  You should’ve known Minho would pick something casual.
“Hey, you wanna go first, or should I?” Minho’s voice cut through your thoughts, and you shook the negativity away gratefully.
“You go ahead,” you called over to him, trying to find a smile.  What were you so worked up about?  It’s not like this was a real date.  You could have shown up in a potato sack if you wanted, you weren’t trying to impress anyone, least of all Minho.  On that thought, maybe he had the better idea after all.  You eyed his sweatpants enviously.  You knew how comfy they were, and they’d doubtless be better than the tights you were terrified of ripping.
“Ok sweetheart, prepare for a thrashing,” Minho joked, selecting a bowling ball from the rack.
“You prepare for a thrashing,” you countered, despite knowing it was an empty threat.  You probably needed the bumpers if you wanted anything but gutter balls.  Then you caught sight of the names on the board.  “Did you seriously make my nickname ‘Loser’?  What are we, five?”
Minho smirked as he passed you.  “We’ve been over this, I’m a grandpa, you’ve got one foot in the grave.  Childish antics are beneath us,” he said with a laugh.
“So you’re ‘Lee Know’?” you inquired, curious about his chosen nickname.
Minho turned to face you, tilting his head.  “Yeah, that’s what my friends call me.”
“...Am I supposed to call you that?”
“We’re friends, aren’t we?  Call me whatever you want.  Just not ‘asshole’,” he joked.  Your heart warmed, and a true smile found its way to your lips.  You watched as Minho wiggled a little, eyeing the pins at the end of the lane.  Then, to your utmost surprise, he turned around and rolled the ball between his legs.
“What?” you choked on a laugh, nearly falling over at the sight.  Minho backed up, and you both watched as the ball rolled down the lane, painfully slow.  It ended up knocking down half of the pins, much to your surprise.  Minho just looked proud as he picked up another ball.  Miracle of miracles, he wound up with a spare.
You had no words, didn’t even bother trying to explain how his technique had any sort of success.  Your own attempt was...pitiful by comparison.  Your form looked good, but both balls wound up in the gutter in a matter of seconds.
Minho didn’t waste the opportunity to gloat.  “Told you I’d beat you at bowling,” he said with a wink.
You grumbled, flopping down onto the bench next to him.  “I didn’t expect you to be successful at the toddler technique.”
“Give it a go, maybe we’ll change your nickname if you win,” he laughed, getting up for his turn.
Halfway through the game, you even tried the ‘toddler technique’.  This was also a fail, made worse with the mortifying realization that your underwear would be visible if you bent over too far.  When your attempt ended up in the gutter, you resolved to get bumpers for the next game.
But Minho had other plans.  You had just approached the lane when you felt a hand on your shoulder.  “Keep your wrist straight, you keep twisting it at the last second,” he said.
You turned to face him, finding him close behind you.  “Anything else, wise one?”
“Don’t overthink it,” he smiled at you.  This close, you could swear his eyes were twinkling.  “We can both go get bumpers next round, I need them almost as much as you.  I’m amazed at my own streak of luck tonight.”
“I’m terrible at bowling,” you whined, looking away from him.  Your cheeks felt warm.  Gosh, it was embarrassing to be this bad.
“We can go do something else, we don’t even need to finish this game, let alone all three.  As long as you’re having fun, I’m happy.”
You glanced at him from the corner of your eye, but looked away quickly.  He was watching you so intently, the flush burned hotter, threatening to run down your neck.  “I’m sorry you paid for so many games.  We can definitely finish them, it’s fine—”
“I’ll never make you do something you don’t want to do,” Minho murmured.  You looked at him in surprise, surprised to hear him sounding sincere rather than snarky.  “Otherwise, I’d be a shitty friend, wouldn’t I?”
“Right, yeah.  An asshole friend,” you agreed, nearly stumbling over the words.
“Ok, I’ll let you focus on your first strike of the night.  Don’t overthink it,” he reminded you, walking back to the bench.
You nodded, ignoring the tight feeling in your stomach that reminded you of disappointment.  And you sank another one right into the gutter.
Minho’s solution to the bowling fiasco was consolation ice cream.  Somewhat surprising, since a part of you had expected him to gloat.  Instead, he talked about anything and everything but bowling, entertaining you while you both sat at the window of the local shop.  You simply watched him, enraptured.  He had hardly opened up at all to you at first.  Visiting his apartment felt like the first peek into the real Minho.  The happy memories captured in picture frames, the handmade mementos here and there on shelves, all hints as to the soft interior of your once-prickly friend.  Now he was regaling you with stories of his best friends—brothers, by the sound of it.  Loving rivalry, playful banter, sibling torment.  And the look on his face...pride.  He was proud of them, his family.
Then you paused, tilted your head to look at him anew.  When had Minho stopped being prickly?  Where was the cynical, negative, angsty boy you’d befriended, partly out of spite?  When had he stopped trying to hold you back with barbed wire edges?
When Minho caught your gaze, he lifted one brow, mouth twitching into a crooked smile.  “See something you like?” he sassed you.  But his remark was devoid of bitterness.  It wasn’t mocking, it was warm, inviting.  It was asking you to join in on the joke.
“Yeah,” you said softly.  Then you turned up the wattage on your smile, grinning widely at him.  “What’s cookin’, good lookin’?”
Minho rolled his eyes at your antics, spinning his ice cream cone between his fingers.  But hidden behind your grin was more than a little truth.
* * * * *
You knocked on the door, stepping back tentatively.  You could hear raucous laughter on the other side, which would ordinarily have you curious, maybe a little excited to join in.  Not tonight.  Right now, standing in the hallway outside Minho’s apartment, you were nervous as hell.  And on top of it all, you were nearly an hour late, having dragged your feet the whole way there.
“Stop it, this is ridiculous,” you muttered to yourself, shifting from foot to foot.  It felt like meeting the parents, which was dumb.  Firstly, you and Minho were not dating.  Secondly, these were his best friends, not his parents.  And thirdly, you and Minho were good friends.  You had nothing to worry about.  Absolutely nothing.
Which was why you were currently worrying all over the place about meeting Minho’s best friends.  What if they hated you?  Or worse, what if they pitied you?  You thought you’d disappear into a crack in the earth if that happened.
Before you could spend too long contemplating your inevitable end, the door swung open, and a boy came rushing out at you.  You gasped, jumping back before he could run into you.
“Sorry, sorry, excuse me!” he blurted, skidding to a stop, then immediately taking off running down the hallway.
You blinked in confusion, but your eyes only widened when a second boy came barrelling out of the apartment after the first.  “Minho?”
Minho paused briefly, eyes alighting on your stiff figure.  “Hi!  Um, I need to take care of something, but I’ll be right back.  Go on in,” he waved at you, breaking into a jog, and then a sprint.
Immensely confused, you peered into the apartment, now that the door was wide open.  Now or never, you told yourself firmly.  Easing through the doorway, you caught sight of six more boys in various states of chaos.  Upon noticing your entrance, they all froze.  “Uh, hello there,” came a voice on your right.  You looked over to see two boys in the kitchen, appearing to be mid-struggle with a bag of popcorn.  “You must be Minho’s friend, he said you’d be coming.”
You gave a tiny wave, pasting on a sunshine smile.  “Hi guys, it’s nice to meet you, I think?  Should I be concerned about the escapee?”
Popcorn boy number two laughed, arms bulging as he ripped open the bag.  “Oh no, Hyunjin will be fine.  Minho hasn’t made him eat toilet paper in years, he’s above that now.”  You must have looked concerned, because the boy chuckled again, waving you off.  “It’s all empty threats with that one.  Mostly.  I’m Changbin, by the way.”
Popcorn boy number one stepped forward, extending a hand to shake.  “I’m Chan, and this is our menagerie of chaos.  Let me introduce you to everyone,” he offered.  You grinned at him, relieved.
By the time Minho returned, practically dragging Hyunjin with him, you were giggling on the couch with the rest of the boys, embroiled in a fierce MarioKart race.  With Hyunjin still trapped in a headlock, Minho paused to watch.  You just barely caught a glimpse of him from the corner of your eye, too focused on staying on the track.  Jeongin had chosen Rainbow Road for your first match, and you were determined to crush them in the dust.  Even if it had been several years since you last played.
You watched as your character was knocked off the edge, a cry of dismay falling from your lips.  “Dang it, I wasn’t even in first place, what gives?”
Han grinned victoriously, only to cry out when he accidentally drove over the edge as well.  “Friends fall together?” he joked.
“You made me go ziplining.  Alone,” Minho said, announcing his presence at last.
“Uhhhh,” Han fumbled for an excuse.  “You love me anyway, though, right?”
Before Minho could retort, Seungmin stood up.  “You can play next, if you want,” he offered.
The rest of you blinked at him in surprise, before looking at his screen and realizing he’d already won the race.  Jeongin groaned dramatically, flailing on the couch as he came in second.  You and Han just gave up entirely, letting your characters fall off the track once more.  Meanwhile, Minho finally decided to release Hyunjin, and the blonde escaped to the other end of the couch, diving into a bowl of chips like nothing had happened.
Felix looked excited, so you tossed him your remote for the next round.  “I believe I was promised food,” you said, arching an eyebrow in Minho’s direction.
“I believe I told you to arrive at six,” he fired back, stalking towards you.  He finally stopped a foot away, looming over you.
You smirked at him, “What did I tell you on our first date?”
The room went silent, and you froze, realizing your mistake.  “You guys are dating and you didn’t tell us?” Han exclaimed, eyes wide.
Your mouth opened and closed, but you couldn’t seem to find any words.
“Oh yeah, real fancy dates, too.  We had dinner at the Eiffel tower last week,” Minho drawled.  “Isn’t that right, sugar plum?”  The cherry on top was when he reached out, lightly pinching your cheek.
A stranger might have mistaken his dry tone for sincerity, but everyone in the room knew Minho’s humor well.  Half of the group dissolved into giggles.  Changbin rolled his eyes and threw a pillow, but Minho caught it before it could smack into you.  “No wonder you don’t have a girlfriend,” Changbin joked.
“All those promises and no follow through,” Han clucked his tongue in mock-disapproval, then ducked when Minho tossed the pillow at him next.
Your cheeks threatened to catch on fire again.  The situation only worsened when you met Minho’s dark gaze, his eyes ensnaring you.  “So,” you threw out desperately, clapping your hands together.  “The food?  Or am I going to starve?  Not very boyfriend-like,” you tried to laugh.  The joke must have been convincing, because the boys merely chuckled, going back to their game.
Minho still hadn’t moved from where he stood over you.  Instead of moving back so you could get up, he extended a hand.  You bit your lip, teeth digging in, but you placed your hand in his rather than make a scene.  The last thing you wanted was more attention, especially with your cheeks warming up past their usual temperature.
Fortunately, he released you as soon as you regained your footing.  Your fingers flexed lightly, hand falling back to your side.  You kept your chin high as you followed Minho to the kitchen, ignoring the prickling feeling that the boys were still watching you.
“Pizza?” you blurted out, incredulous.  “Don’t you eat anything else?”
Minho snorted, leaning against the counter.  “For the record, I do know how to cook.”
You snooped in the fridge, disbelieving.  “Of course, all evidence points to you being a five star chef,” you said, casting a pointed look at the empty shelves within.
He chuckled, folding his arms while he watched you investigate.  “Sweetheart, if you wanted me to cook for you, all you had to do was ask.”
You hummed, closing the refrigerator once more.  “I’m kinda afraid you’ll burn something, to be honest,” you teased, grabbing a plate from the cabinet and selecting a slice of now-cold pizza.  You popped the pizza in the microwave, then relaxed against the counter opposite Minho.  He was still watching you intently, and you frowned.  “What?  Do I have something on my face?” you asked him.
Minho shook his head wordlessly.  Self-consciousness took hold, and you looked down awkwardly, brushing your hair behind one ear.  “Hey, I’m sorry about what I said.  I totally didn’t mean it the way it came out.”
“I know,” he said, one corner of his mouth quirking up in a half smile.
You tipped your chin again, unable to look at him for long.  Even if Minho seemed to forgive your blunder, you still couldn’t believe you’d blurted that out.  Your hair fell in front of your face again, and you let it, happy to hide behind the locks.
Then another pair of feet appeared a few inches from yours.  Plain black socks next to your patterned ones, covered in cartoon rainbows.  Then a butterfly touch along the side of your face, soft enough that you almost doubted the sensation.  You lifted your gaze, but this time, Minho’s eyes weren’t on yours.  Instead, his laser focus was directed on the hair he was gently situating behind your ear again.
You realized you had forgotten to breathe when he finally took a step back, and your lungs remembered to inflate.
“For the record, you’re right,” Minho said softly.  “The queen is never late.”
* * * * *
It was nearing midnight by the time Minho’s friends started leaving.  You eyed the clock, then went to grab your shoes as well.  “I better get going, I want to get home sometime before dawn,” you joked.
“How close do you live?  Are you taking the bus?” Chan asked, worry evident in his tone.
You waved him off, “I’m just a few blocks away, not too long of a walk.  Bus doesn’t run after ten or so, anyway.”
Chan frowned, but Minho cut him off before he could say anything.  “I was going to walk her home, it’s pretty late.”
That was a surprise to you, but seemed to alleviate Chan’s concern.  The others waved goodbye on their way out, Chan following them.  “Nice to meet you,” he said, shooting you a quick grin before closing the door behind him.
“You really don’t have to,” you started.
“I want to.  It’s late,” Minho reminded you.
“I didn’t argue last time, but I didn’t want to steal your umbrella.”  You narrowed your eyes at him.  “I’m not some little girl in need of protection.  It’s a perfectly safe neighborhood.”
Minho didn’t look up, busy tying his shoes.  “I like walking.”
“At midnight?”
“Any time of day, really.”
You rolled your eyes.  “Do you walk Jeongin home, too?”
“Sure did.  He moved in with Han, though, so I don’t anymore,” he said simply.  “You don’t have a roommate.  If no one’s there to make sure you get home safe, I want to walk with you.”
You gaped at him, unable to fault his logic.  And not really wanting to.  “Thanks,” you murmured, scuffing one shoe into the floor.
Minho stood up again, a crooked smile on his lips.  “Don’t mention it,” he said, snagging his keys.  “After you.”
Walking home with Minho, you were reminded of the first time.  Then, you’d been so awkward, quiet.  Unsure of yourself.  You’d been worried that you were some kind of pity friend at first, but after getting to know Minho, you knew that wasn’t the case.  And now that you’d grown comfortable around each other, you could hardly get him to shut up.  Even now, he was talking about his dance team’s newest choreo, his words running together from excitement.
You smiled, just listening.  This was all you really wanted, if you let yourself admit it.  The Tinder dates were just a shit attempt at finding someone to sit and listen to for hours.  You wanted movie nights and quiet mornings with someone who cared about you.  You wanted a cute little house and kids and a dog.  Maybe a cat.  Maybe three.
Shit.
You were so wrapped up in your realization that you didn’t realize you’d reached your apartment building until Minho snagged your elbow to pull you to a stop.  “This isn’t a midnight hike, where do you think you’re going?” he asked incredulously.
You laughed nervously, “Oh, sorry, I was pretty lost in thought.”
“Apparently.  Were you listening to a word I said?  Some friend you are,” he snorted.
Friend.  Right.  Your realization didn’t mean much.  Why were you surprised?  You hadn’t had luck in the romantic department in years, why would that change now?  Minho was your friend, and it was obvious that his opinion of you wasn’t going to change.  Why would it?  He was way out of your league.
Gosh, now you felt like a fool.  You’d really just daydreamed about a happily ever after with him.  Why did you ever bother getting your hopes up?  You were always bound for disappointment.  Hadn’t your crappy dates taught you anything?
Minho called your name, bringing you back down to reality.  “Sorry,” you muttered, fumbling in your bag to find your keys.
“Are you alright?” he asked.  Shoot, now he sounded concerned.
You pasted a sunny smile on your face, “Totally fine.  Thank you for walking me back.  I won’t keep you any longer.”
You turned away to walk up the steps, but the smile fell as soon as he was out of sight.  How were you only just coming to the realization that you were halfway—or perhaps all the way—in love with him?  His face was burned into your mind’s eye.  Brows furrowed in confusion, slight pout, and those damned eyes.  You’d probably been in love with his eyes from the beginning.
“I only agreed to let you play matchmaker so I could see you again.”
You stopped at the top of the steps, not quite believing your ears.  Turning slightly, you looked at Minho over your shoulder.
Once he had your attention, he continued, “I bailed on the date with your friend because I knew you’d yell at me.”
Lips parting in surprise, you turned to face him fully.  Minho put a foot on the first step, gaze locked on yours.  You weren’t sure what he saw when he looked at you, but his mouth softened into a slight smile.
“I was going to do the classic move of teaching you to bowl, but I chickened out,” he said.  “I wish I hadn’t.”
“What are you...why are you telling me this?” you asked, fingers curling nervously.
He ascended another step, “You only smile like that when you’re sad.  When you start getting in your own head about what you deserve.”  Another step, “And I’m tired of hiding.”
Now he was only two steps away.  Close enough to touch, if you dared to reach out.  You didn’t.  “We’re friends,” you said, voice small.
“Yeah, we are,” he agreed.  Then he bit his lip, drawing your attention like bees to honey.  You sucked in a breath, closing your eyes firmly.  When you opened them, Minho was on the step just below you.  “Tell me to stop,” he said, voice low.  You didn’t.
Your breath stuttered to a stop, your whole body stilling at the electric shock of his lips on yours.  For a moment, you were frozen, utterly focused on the whisper of a touch.  Then Minho pulled away, and you could breathe again, gasping for air.  But you didn’t want it to be over.  Your eyes fluttered open, finding his dark gaze melting into you.
This time, you let yourself fall into him, ignoring the voice in the back of your head that said this was a fantasy.  He caught you, one arm wrapping around your waist, his other hand coming to your jawline.  He ascended that final step, pulling your body into his.  His lips were plush, a little dry.  Real.  Minho was here, warm under your fingertips.
His hand slid up into your hair, slowly enough to make you shiver.  You sighed into the kiss, goosebumps appearing on your arms as his fingers gently tugged the strands.  And then his mouth opened beneath you, and you let yourself tumble into sensation, drowning in him.
You don’t know how long you kissed, but your heart was racing when you finally came up for air.  Minho panted, little breaths puffing against your lips.  He rested his forehead against yours, the weight somehow grounding you.
“Do you understand now?”  Minho’s voice was hoarse, deeper than before.  You shivered, just a bit, and the corner of his lips twitched up.
You couldn’t find words, unable to string any coherent thoughts together.  And you didn’t really want to, happy to have your mind all to yourself, no doubts in sight.  You leaned forward, placing a small kiss on the tip of Minho’s nose.  He scrunched his face up, making you giggle.  But you needed to know one thing.  “Are we—are things different now?”
“We’re dating.  Unless you don’t want that,” he backtracked, eyes wide.
You grinned at him.  “I do.”
He heaved out a sigh of relief.  “Thank goodness.  I thought I really fucked up there.”
Now you really laughed, head falling forward to rest on his chest.  Minho’s arms tightened around you, pulling you closer than you thought was possible.  You could hear his heartbeat, thudding just as fast as yours.
“You said the friendship was your favorite part of love,” Minho mused.  You hummed in agreement, nodding against him.  “Well I hope you don’t get sick of me.  I hear I’m pretty annoying.”
“Minho,” you rolled your eyes.
“I know you just rolled your eyes at me,” he teased.
“Well, you are annoying.  But I suppose it’s a part of your charm.”
He chuckled, “So that means you like my jokes?”
You smiled fondly, “Don’t push it.”
Ssoo, I ended up writing a follow up fic to my first Lego Monkie Kid fic. LOL
Title: The Aunt and the Monkey
Rating: G
Summary: On the one hand, MK is happy his aunt will be home for his birthday. On the other hand, he is not thrilled with having to explain to her about being Monkey King's successor.
Archive of Our Own
--------------------------------
Pigsy hummed to himself as he finished filling up the pot with water.
“Now just need to get the noodles-”
“PIGSY! I GOT A PROBLEM!”
Pigsy yelped as he jumped and spilled the water from the pot onto the floor and himself.
His eyes twitched as he spun around. “MK! WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT SNEAKING UP ON ME?!”
“Sorry, sorry,” MK rambled as he shook Pigsy’s shoulders. “But I have a huge problem!”
Pigsy sighed as he held MK’s arm to calm the kid. “Alright, alright, what’s the issue.”
“Aunt Ling is coming home for my birthday!”
Pigsy blinked and scratched his head. “Um...correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that a good thing?”
MK sighed as he rubbed his neck. “Well, yeah, I’m happy she’ll be here, but that means I’m going to have to tell her.”
“Tell her what?” Pigsy then paused, raised an eyebrow and jabbed at MK’s chest. “Wait...do you mean-”
MK gave a sheepish grin. “About gaining Monkey King’s powers? Um..yeah.”
“It’s almost been a year! How could you not have told her about it yet?!” Pigsy yelled.
“Well, I didn’t think it something I explained in an email or on the phone,” MK hastily replied. “I mean...isn’t this the kind of thing you should do in person?!”
Pigsy raised, but then lowered his hand. The kid actually made a fair point. Ling was opened minded, but even she might have a hard time believing it if MK had just explained over the phone.
“So, now I got no choice, but to tell her,” MK continued as he began to pace. “I mean, I could just not tell her, but with my luck Red Son would come to attack right when we’re having dinner.”
Again, Pigsy couldn’t argue against that.
“Then just tell her kid,” Pigsy said.
“But what if she doesn’t want me to do it?!” MK waved his arms frantically. “You know how over protective she can be sometimes. Oh, no, what if the mere mention of it gives her a heart attack and-”
“Kid, breathe,” Pigsy said as he grabbed his shoulders. “Look, yeah, she might not like it, but you are old enough to make your own choices.”
MK sighed and chewed his bottom lip. “I know, but doing something that I know she hates just makes me feel, guilty, ya know?”
Pigsy sighed and patted his arm. “Yeah, I do, but let’s not jump to conclusions. You never know, she might be fine with it.”
“Y-yeah,” MK stammered. “But how do I tell her?”
Pigsy grabbed his chin. “When is she arriving?”
“Late tonight,” MK said.
Pigsy clapped his hands. “Alright, then in the morning you two can come in before we open. We butter her up with a couple bowls of noodles and you tell her.”
MK looked hopeful. “Do you honestly think that will work?”
“S-sure,” Pigsy said with a forced smile.
He had no sweet clue if it would work, but he did know people often took shocking news better on a full stomach. At the very least, Pigsy would be near by to back MK up.
“Okay,” MK said as he took a deep breath. “Thanks, Pigsy, I feel a lot better.”
“Anytime,” Pigsy said as he patted his back. “Happy Birthday by the way.”
MK gave a small laugh. “It’s not until tomorrow, but thanks.” He shoved his hands into his jacket. “I just hope Aunt Ling will be okay with the whole thing.”
Me too, Pigsy thought.
------------------------------------------
Everything happened just as they had planned.
MK and his aunt were at his front doors before he opened.
Ling gave Pigsy a huge hug.
“It’s great to see you, Pigsy,” she exclaimed and clapped her hands. “Thanks for letting us come in early.”
“No, problem,” Pigsy said as he rubbed his neck. “Birthday privileges you know?”
He glanced back to the kid. MK was smiling, while he had his hands tucked into his coat pockets and his eyes were twitchy.
 He’s a nervous wreck.
“How about the usual,” Pigsy said as he went behind the counter.
“That sounds great,” Ling said as she took a seat and MK next to her.
“Y-yeah, nothing beats Pigsy’s noodles bowls,” MK said.
It didn’t take long for them to finish their noodle bowls. MK quietly set down his chop sticks and looked up at her.
“Aunt Ling,” MK said with a sigh. “I have to tell you something.”
Ling frowned as she crossed her arms. “I had a feeling something was up.” She gave a laugh. “Alright, Sweetie, what did you do?”
MK rubbed his neck as he reached into his pocket. “You remember the Monkey King?”
Ling laughed. “Of course, that was always your favourite story growing up.”
“Well, he’s real,” MK said as he looked at her, “and he’s chosen me as his successful so I’ve inherited all of his powers.”
Ling blinked, tilted her head and laughed. “Okay, very funny, you almost had me there-”
“He’s serious, Ling,” Pigsy said as he leaned over the counter.
Ling froze. “W-what?”
MK stood up. “Here, might be better if I show you.”
He took up the tiny staff and had it instantly grow bigger.
Ling yelped. “What the-”
“And I can multiple myself, watch,” MK said as he tugged out a few strains of hair. He blew at them and suddenly two more Mks appeared in the room.
“Hi, Aunt Ling!” the clones greeted.
Ling yelped as she looked lost staring at the two nephews in front of her.
Just as fast as they appeared they vanished.
“I’ve been trying to shape shift, but I haven’t gotten there yet,” MK said as he rambled, “but I could show you-”
Pigsy cut him off as he touched his shoulder.
“I think she gets it, kid,” he said.
Ling looked like she was in shock as she hugged her purse to her chest.
“H-how did this even happen?” she asked.
MK rubbed his neck and gave a shaky laugh. “Well, it all started when I accidentally stumbled upon the Demon Bull King being released.”
“You what?”
“And I tried to get the staff to Monkey King, but they took it back, and then Monkey King told me I was his successor so I fought Demon Bull King and won.”
“YOU WHAT?!”
MK waved his hands. “I know it sounds dangerous, but I’m really getting the hand of fighting demons.”
Ling’s eyes twitched. “You..fight demons regularly?”
MK rubbed his neck. “Yeah, well, it is part of being a hero you know? But Monkey King has been training me.”
Pigsy watched Ling’s face carefully. She grew quiet like her brain was absorbing all of this information.
“I see,” she said. “And you’re happy about this?”
“It’s a dream come true! I feel like I found my true calling,” MK rambled with a nervous grin. “I know you’re probably worried, but don’t be! I’m doing great and Monkey King is a great mentor!” He hugged his staff to his chest. “So, um what do you think Aunt Ling? Are you okay that I do this?”
“Um...” Ling said as she glanced to Pigsy, took a breath and had a huge smile plastered on her face. “I-I think that’s wonderful, sweetheart!”
MK blinked as he tilted his head. “You do?”
“Of course!” Ling said as she hugged him, but Pigsy still couldn’t see her face. “This is clearly something you want and very important to you.” She let go of him and MK was beaming.
“Oh, wow, thanks, Aunt Ling,” MK he exclaimed and rubbed the back of his neck. “You know, I was super worried you were going to freak out or something.”
Ling chuckled, but Pigsy’s ears couldn’t help notice it sounded a bit forced.
“Well, you’re old enough to make your own choices and if you’re happy that’s all that matters to me,” she replied.
MK wiped the sweat off his forehead and suddenly his phone buzzed. He picked it up and showed it to Ling. “It’s Mei, she says she has her birthday present for me.”
“Then you should go and see her,” Ling said as she patted MK’s head. “Why not bring her along for dinner later to celebrate.”
“Yeah, okay,” MK said as he headed out the door. “Oh, hey, maybe I can introduced you to Monkey King later too?”
“.....Yes, that sounds..great,” Ling replied.
MK continued to smile as he waved and left.
The door shut and Ling still didn’t move for several minutes. Pigsy leaned over the counter and coughed.
“Uh, Ling,” he asked. “You okay there?”
Ling slowly turned around. She was smiling, but it was clearly a forced smile. Pigsy was suddenly reminded of a soda bottle ready to burst open being opened.
“Pigsy, do you have somewhere a person could scream without being heard?” she asked in a very tense voice.
Pigsy pointed to his left. “The broom closet should be safe.”
“Thank you,” Ling said as she promptly collected her purse, got inside the closet and shut the door.
Seconds later muffled screams could be heard and Pigsy was rather impressed. He never knew Ling had such strong lungs.
-----------------------------------------------
“Alright,” Sandy said as he patted Ling’s back. “Just breathe in and out, in and out.”
Ling did as she instructed as she held the cup of tea in her hands. “In and out, in and out,” she repeated.
Pigsy watched next to her as he crossed his arms. Sandy was the first person he called once Ling had finished her scream fest in the closet. The woman was still wounded up and Sandy was the best candidate in calming a person down.
Tang adjusted his glasses as he whispered into Pigsy’s ear. “So, she never screamed in front of MK?”
“Nope,” Pigsy said. “She was careful to keep it all in.”
Tang stroked his chin. “Wow, she took it better than I thought she would. I was certain she would faint.”
Pigsy glared at him as Ling sipped at the tea.
“Thank you, Sandy,” she said. “The tea does help.”
“Always does,” Sandy said as he held up the kettle.
Ling took in a deep breath as she set down the cup. “Alright, now can someone explain to me how my nephew ended up as heir to the Monkey King?”
“It’s like how the kid said,” Pigsy said as he sat up. “It kind of just happened.”
“And none of you thought that maybe he was too young to be put in such a position?” she asked.
“Ling, he’s old enough to make his own decisions,” Pigsy said as he raised a hand. “You told MK this yourself.”
Ling sighed as she massaged her forehead. “I know but..he’s far to young to have that kind of responsibility on him! I could barely get him to clean his room and now he’s expected to fight demons?!”
Tang cleared his throat. “To be fair, I believe MK is more interested in being a hero than cleaning his room.”
Ling shot him a glare and sighed as she got her purse. “You know when I came home to surprise MK the worst I expected that MK got a tattoo or something.” She slouched into her seat. “This whole Monkey King business is that last thing I ever pictured.”
Tang raised an eyebrow. “So what are you planning to do?”
“What can I do?!” Ling said as she bolted upright. “I hate the idea of MK putting himself in danger, but he clearly wants this! If I tell him how I feel it’ll break his heart.”
Pigsy couldn’t deny that. It was why the kid was so anxious about telling his aunt in the first place.
“So, you’re not going to tell MK to stop being a hero?” Sandy asked.
Ling sighed and shook her head. “I’m going to support him, even if it means giving me grey hairs in the process.” Suddenly a look of fury crossed over her face. “However, I am going to have certain words with an immortal monkey.”
“He’s on Flower Fruit Mountain,” Tang replied as he cleaned his glasses, “but you will probably have a hard time finding him.”
Ling narrowed her eyes. “Have any of you ever played against MK and Mei in a game of hide and seek?”
Pigsy blinked glanced to the other two and all shook their heads.
“Then trust me when I say I will have an easier time finding the Monkey King,” Ling said as she left the door. “I should be back by dinner time, I’ll call MK if I’m running late.”
“Uh, sure thing,” Pigsy said with a wave as she left.
Sandy drummed his fingers against his knees. “So..uh, do you think she’s going to find him?”
“I don’t think it’s a matter of ‘if’,” Pigsy said as he rose, “I think it’s a question of when and if the Monkey King is going to survive this.”
Tang gave a laugh. “You’re exaggerating a bit. This is the famous Sun Wukong we’re talking about.”
Pigsy thought back to his mother and grandmother when they were angry. He didn’t felt so certain.
-----------------------------------------------
The rest of the day went as normal. Pigsy gave MK the day off since it was the kid’s birthday. Even he wasn’t that heartless. They all made plans to get together later for dinner to celebrate it.
He didn’t hear anything about Ling until later in the afternoon. Tang was at the counting trying to convince Pigys to give him a free bowl since it was MK’s birthday. Pigsy was prepared to tell him off when he heard the door and Tang yelped.
Pigsy frowned, turned and blinked surprise.
It was Monkey King.
He crossed his arms and gave a shaky smile. “Um..mind if I hide out here until MK gets back?”
Tang adjusted his glasses in shock and Pigsy raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean ‘hide’?”
Monkey King paused and gave a shaky laugh. “Oh, uh, I just wanted to surprise the kid before I give him his birthday present and-”
“Ling found you didn’t she?” Pigsy finished.
Monkey King instantly growled as he buried his face into his hands. “Yes, that woman is relentless!” He waved his arms. “I kept changing animal forms so she wouldn’t find me, but she always did! I don’t know how she did it!”
He paced. “She keeps yelling at me about how ‘irresponsible’ I was for choosing someone so young, that I should think about my actions and make sure I’m not a bad influence.” Monkey King waved his arms in the arms. “Does she not realize what I was up to when I was MK’s age?!”
“I think that might be what she’s worried about,” Pigsy remarked.
“Um....” Tang said with a raised hand. “With all due respect, why are you ‘hiding’ from her? She isn’t a demon, just a mortal woman. She doesn’t have the strength to hurt you.”
Monkey King glared. “If she was a demon I’d have an easier time. I just beat them up and be done with it.” He placed his hands on his hips. “What kind of hero would I be for beating up a lady, especially that lady being the woman that raised MK.”
“Ah,” Tang said as he grasped his chin. “Fair point.”
“I wanted to see the kid to wish him happy birthday, but no way was I going to wait for him at Flower Fruit Mountain with Ling there,” Monkey King said. “So, I thought I wait for him here.”
“You do realize Ling is planning to come back here eventually?” Pigsy retorted.
Monkey King smirked. “Yeah, but she’s dead set on finding me first. I left bogus clues about where I was going, so that should keep her busy for-”
“THERE YOU ARE!”
Pigsy, Monkey King and Tang all yelped as Ling came storming in and slammed the door behind you.
She growled as she marched up to Monkey King and poked him in his chest. “How dare you run off! I wasn’t done talking to you!”
Monkey King tugged at his ears in frustration. “How did you know I would come here so fast?!”
“Woman’s intuition,” Ling said firmly and paused. “Also, you should know it’s very easy to bribe your monkeys with the right snacks.”
Monkey King blinked and groaned. “I’m going to have words with them when I get back!”
“That should be your last worry right now,” Ling hissed as she grabbed her shirt. “I’m not leaving you alone until you promise to keep my nephew safe.”
Monkey King sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Lady, I told you, I’ll do my best, but he does have to face some danger-”
“Then you should have picked an adult for your successor and not a teenager!”
“Okay, okay,” Pigsy said as he got out from behind the counter. “You two settle down before-”
“I WIN,” Mei cried as she barged in and did a victory dance. “Ha, once again I win the race here....”
She saw the sight before her, blinked and pointed. “Um...did I interrupt something?”
Ling tugged on Monkey King’s shirt harder. “I’m just having WORDS with the Monkey King.”
Mei shoved her hand into her pocket and pointed over her shoulder. “Well, you might want to wrap it up since Mk is going to be here any sec and probably won’t be happy to see you two fighting.”
Panic overtook both Monkey King and Ling as just as Mei predicted MK appeared.
“Okay, I am so winning the next race,” he said and then he looked delighted. “Monkey King?! You’re here!”
“Uh, sure am, Bud,” Monkey King said as he got out of Ling’s grip and moved over to ruffle Mk’s hair. “No way I wouldn’t miss your birthday.”
“That’s great, thanks,” MK said with a smile and frowned. “Although, why are you here and not at Flower Fruit Mountain?”
“Well,” Monkey King glanced at Ling and smirked. “That’s cause your aunt invited me to join you guys for dinner.”
MK’s eyes beamed. “You did, Aunt Ling?”
Ling’s eyes twitched, but she put on a smile. “Yes, we were just discussing that.”
“Oh wow,” MK said and laughed. “You know, I was actually worried that you two wouldn’t get along, but glad to see I was wrong.”
Ling and Monkey King looked at each other with their eyes narrowed.
“Yes, wrong,” Monkey King muttered.
“Very wrong,” Ling said.
Tang cleared his throat. “Why don’t we head over to Sandy’s boat? I know he got decorations put up he like to show you.”
“Oh, good idea,” MK said and looked over. “You coming too, Pigsy?”
“Sure, kid,” Pigsy said with a wave of his hand. “Just need to lock up first.”
“Okay, we’ll meet you there,” Mei said as she guided MK out and they were followed by Tang. Ling and Monkey King lingered in the back, but they continued to glare at each other.
“We are not done that conversation,” Ling hissed.
“Oh, I think we are,” Monkey King hissed back.
Pigsy watched the door shut and let loose the air he had been holding in.
“It’s going to be a long night,” he grumbled.
On Monday
On Monday, I met you
It was the first day of school and the first akuma attack when Jane Seymour, a.k.a. Chat Noire, met Ladyblue.
How they met was by accident when Ladyblue flew into Chat Noire, who was walking along her baton like a tightrope, learning her new abilities. Their time to get acquainted was cut due to having to fight an akumatized classmate, Stoneheart.
But the moment Chat Noire met her partner in crime, she was entranced.
I liked you, I liked you
The girl had bronze skin and short, dark curly hair that parted on her left side with blue highlights hanging over her deep brown eyes.
Her skintight was black with light blue on the front in the style of an opened short sleeve jacket that stopped at the waist and on the legs from the knees down her to her feet, and within the light blue were black spots while white pearls lined along her wrists and waist into a “V” on the front. Her mask was opposite of the suit (light blue with black spots), and on her head was a black headband with silver spikes.
Even though she was in her superhero outfit, Ladyblue was gorgeous. Appearance was one thing, but her personality was another, and it's just as beautiful as her. Her bravery, her cleverness, her strength, her positivity, and her confidence.
It’s Monday – bad day
After defeating Stoneheart for the second and official time, the superheroes checked to make sure that the citizens were alive and well. To their surprise and glee, the akumatized classmate ended up dating their crush.
But good day for us
“They’re made for each other,” Ladyblue awed.
“Like us two,” Chat Noire flirted, offering her new partner a hand.
Good for us
Right then, Chat Noire’s ring beeped as the fourth paw flashes green – signaling one minute left before transforming back into civilian form. At that, Ladyblue grabbed her wrist and pulled it forward, showing the ring.
“Uh-oh, you see that?” Ladyblue asked lightly.
Chat Noire glanced at it then at her, and noticed how close their faces were to each other.
Even though they just met today, Chat Noire briefly wondered how those lips felt against her. It must’ve been subconscious because the next thing Chat Noire knew was her eyes drifted close then getting shoved back.
You wouldn’t let me kiss you
“Time to split,” Ladyblue said, releasing her hand.
Too stunned to move or speak, Chat Noire merely stood and watched as Ladyblue walked away.
“See you soon, Chat Noire,” Ladyblue said with a wave, then swung her yoyo out and launched herself into the air and behind some buildings.
Chat Noire smiled and dazely waved.
And that is why
She’s been in a relationship before and truly thought she was in love with him, but he turned out to be douche. She thought she learned to not fall in love so fast, but fighting alongside Ladyblue, Chat Noire was willing to do anything to get closer to her.
“Can’t wait, milady,” she whispered, then turned and vaulted away.
You were my kind of guy
~~~
Then Tuesday, I called you
Chat Noire was playing with her baton while lying lazily on a roof. After defeating another akumatized civilian, the superheroes agreed on doing patrol around London to further prevent harm and more akumas. Chat Noire wanted to talk to Ladyblue, but she left before Chat Noire could get a word in.
Chat Noire wasn’t sure how she felt about that. Wasn’t Ladyblue curious about her partner too? Or was she just too busy today? Chat Noire knew what it was like to be busy. Her civilian form, Jane Seymour, was a famous singer in England, she was bound to be crowded with meetings and rehearsals and classes.
Still, why did Ladyblue leave in a hurry?
Chat Noire supposed she could learn more about her baton’s gadgets. She had the rest of the day anyway. She was boredly pressing buttons when Contacts popped up on the screen. Seeing the only contact on her baton was Ladyblue’s, Chat Noire perked up.
She immediately pressed “call” under Ladyblue’s profile and waited eagerly. To her disappointment, the call went to voicemail. Chat Noire frowned, but it quickly vanished when an idea hit, and she pressed “call” again.
Several hours later, Chat Noire had left about 15 voicemails for Ladyblue of her rambling about her day. Unlike the others, the last voicemail was sincere as she asked if they could meet and talk. Assuming Ladyblue wouldn’t answer, Chat Noire set down her baton, sighed, and gazed at the starry night.
Ignored me, straight voicemail
A minute later, her baton vibrated with a beep, and Chat Noire glanced to see a notification from Ladyblue. She excitedly opened it to a message.
You texted back saying:
Ladyblue: play hard to get. ready. set . . .
You wouldn’t let me see you
Baffled, Chat Noire reread the text over and over. What was that supposed to mean? Was Ladyblue interested? Did she think she (Chat Noire) was messing around? She knew she was a jokester between the two, but she’s real when it comes to feelings.
Whatever it meant, it was clear that Ladyblue was not going to video call with her - at least for today.
Got so depressed by your test
Chat Noire sighed. That’s fine, she didn’t want to pressure her partner to the point of scaring her. Although she probably annoyed her with all of the voicemails. Chat Noire would gladly wait to see her lady, but that didn’t dismiss the depression that she felt at unanswered calls and the game Ladyblue set up.
Still I thought
Yet, a smile crept on her lips at the excitement of the game with Ladyblue, and she typed her response.
You’re the best
Chat Noire: u’re on >:P
‘Cause I’ve been so juvenile
That to take my time is just not my style
~~~
Come Wednesday, black coffee
After purifying the akuma, the victim offered them free coffee. Chat Noire happily agreed, while Ladyblue hesitated but agreed.
“You like black coffee?” Chat Noire asked her partner.
“Yeah, and you don’t?” she countered, raising a brow.
“Just because I look good in black doesn’t mean I like black coffee. I prefer flavor like myself,” Chat Noire teased proudly.
Ladyblue rolled her eyes, and Chat Noire laughed. Once they got their coffee and gave their thanks, the heroes left to drink in peace. They decided to sit on Big Ben, having a perfect view of their city.
Pure talking, clean touching
For hours, they talked and laughed. At some point, they discussed their double lives as being superheroes. While Jane was thrilled to have more freedom as Chat Noire, Ladyblue appeared anxious and concerned.
“I’m glad doing this to save London, but I can’t help but think I’m not the right one for this job,” Ladyblue confessed, staring down at the busy streets.
Chat Noire frowned and leaned back on her hands, gazing up at the sky.
“I get that. I doubt myself too sometimes. This may be bias but–”
Feeling bold, she placed a hand on Ladyblue’s. Startled, Ladyblue stared at their hands then at her with wide eyes.
“–I think you’re perfect for the job. Sure, we have flaws, but that’s what makes us human. I’ve never seen someone as smart, brave, and strong as you. I know we’ve only met and done this for three days, but it feels like a lifetime, and I can’t picture a better Ladyblue than you,” said Chat Noire sincerely.
Chat Noire wasn’t sure if it was the sun’s lighting, but she could’ve sworn she saw color on Ladyblue’s cheeks.
Oh, Wednesday, hump day
Ladyblue averted her eyes and stammered.
“I– um, thank you, Chat. I couldn’t have a better partner than you,” she said, facing Chat Noire again.
From the soft tone and her genuine eyes, Chat Noire knew she meant it and smiled. Then, to her astonishment, Ladyblue turned her hand over, grasped Chat Noire’s, and squeezed it gently. Chat Noire’s heart skipped a beat, and a silent gasp left her lips.
But we just held hands
“And I can’t picture a better Chat Noire,” Ladyblue whispered, giving her a small smile.
Chat Noire beamed and laughed.
“That’s a relief to know,” she teased.
Ladyblue giggled then gazed forward again.
You wouldn’t let me take you away for the day
As much as Chat Noire wanted to do more than hold hands, she was content with this for the day. Facing out, she too stared out at the city. About an hour later, Chat Noire decided to push her luck for the day.
“Are you up for hanging out more? Maybe go see a movie?” she asked.
Ladyblue chuckled and shook her head.
“Sorry, kitty, but I gotta stay. I have some things I need to finish,” she excused apologetically.
Chat Noire tried her best to hide her disappointment.
And I felt so juvenile
“Oh, that’s okay. I’ll see you tomorrow then. Good luck on your stuff,” she said.
Chat Noire then took Ladyblue’s hand, who was close to resisting until Chat Noire simply kissed her knuckles.
“Goodnight, milady,” she said, shooting her a wink.
Suppressing a smile, Ladyblue shook her head.
“Night, Chat Noire,” Ladyblue said.
Chat Noire smirked then jumped away. As she leaped from building to building, a part of her was feeling impatient with her and Ladyblue’s relationship (friends or more). She was clearly pushing it, but she didn’t know what else to do with these feelings – especially towards a girl.
The logical side of her informed Chat Noire that she’s taking this too fast, but the emotional, useless, romantic side of her wanted her to pursue this. Hell, she only knew her partner for three days, and Chat Noire was willing to do anything for her.
You gave an inch of time, and I took a mile
If Ladyblue wanted to just be friends, she would’ve said, right? Maybe she was interested in Chat Noire, but was too afraid to admit it or didn’t know it yet.
Arriving at her mansion, Chat Noire jumped through her bedroom window and landed quietly on her floor. She de-transformed into her normal clothes then walked over and face planted on her bed with a groan.
“You’re such a useless lesbian,” Plagg said bluntly, floating above her head.
“Shut up, Plagg,” Jane mumbled into her pillow, but Plagg ignored her.
“Psh, why love a complicated human when you have camembert!” Plagg said, throwing a piece of cheese up and into his mouth.
Jane flipped over onto her back and stared at the ceiling.
“She may be complicated, but she’s still amazing. I’m still not sure how we ended up getting these miraculous, but we’re meant to be. I can feel it,” she said thoughtfully.
Plagg rolled his eyes. “Yuck. You being all gushie is making me sick. If you need me, I’ll be in the cabinet with my love,” he said, stroking a piece of cheese then disappearing into a desk under the TV.
Jane grinned and shook her head then stared out her window at the moon as thoughts of Ladyblue swarmed her head.
I was so juvenile
‘Cause to take it slow is just not my style
~~~
Then Thursday, like Tuesday
Fed up with her family, Jane used Chat Noire as an excuse to flee her house. She roamed around London for a bit, helping citizens here and there, then ended up relaxing on top of a building.
Similar to Tuesday, Chat Noire called Ladyblue and left voicemails about her day. She probably shouldn't bother her, but Chat Noire found comfort doing this. She’s not sure why, but being able to talk to someone other than Plagg was relieving.
But unlike Tuesday, Ladybug never responded. This baffled Chat Noire. Was it something she did yesterday? Everything seemed fine . . .
Your “day off” from me
A loud crash came from behind, and Chat Noire turned to see a large robot stomping through the streets. It was about to hit another building until a yoyo stopped it, restraining its arm back. Chat Noire followed the line to see Ladyblue tugging on it.
Maybe that’s why Ladyblue hasn't responded. Whatever the reason was, Chat Noire had to put the issue aside as she sprinted to help her partner.
~~~
But Friday busy
Twice, Chat Noire tried to bring up Wednesday’s night event, but Ladyblue kept dodging it, using an akumatization or needing to hide before transforming as reasons to avoid the topic.
And Saturday too
Another victim saved, and Ladyblue and Chat Noire’s partnership appeared alright, but Jane could see through the mask (figuratively and literally) that Ladyblue was evading more moments with her. Jane’s heart broke the less Ladyblue interacted with her when they’re not fighting alongside each other.
Not wanting to deal with this game anymore, Jane made certain Ladyblue would talk to her the next day.
What’s up with you?
~~~
On Sunday, after a well fought battle with an akuma, Chat Noire caught Ladyblue before she left.
You don’t wanna kiss me
“Ladyblue, wait!”
You don’t wanna see me
Ladyblue froze and stared at her with apprehension.
You don’t wanna take me
“You’ve been avoiding me and I want to know why. I get you don’t wanna kiss me, but why don’t you want to see me? Or even be with me?” Chat Noire asked desperately. “Look, if it’s something I said or did on Wednesday, then I’m sorry. I know it seemed like a game and it’s only been a week now, but I really really like you. But if you don’t feel the same, you can tell me. It’s okay.”
So let me go
Chat Noire lowered her head and closed her eyes, waiting for the heartbreaking words. Instead, a gentle hand rested on her shoulder, prompting her to look up into kind eyes.
But you said:
“There’s things I know . . . you are cute, but juvenile,” Ladyblue said, booping her on the nose.
Then she placed her hand on Chat Noire’s cheek, who happily leaned into the touch.
“Don’t you know the greatest love takes the greatest while? So if you’re willing, take my hand and take the trial for just a mile and then another mile. Be patient for that one day.”
Before Chat Noire could blink, Ladyblue kissed her on the other cheek. When she pulled back, both faces were blushing. Ladyblue chuckled and looked at the sunset.
“Look, kitty, it’s Sunday,” she said, then glanced back at her. “Come with me, and I’ll make it worth your while. Maybe it’s not far away or coming down the aisle, but . . . I do wanna kiss you and try this out if you’re okay with going steady,” Ladyblue asked shyly.
But I wanna kiss you now
Chat Noire beamed. “Can I kiss you now?” she asked eagerly.
Oh . . .
Ladyblue giggled and nodded.
And kiss you
Chat Noire grinned and cupped her cheeks then connected their lips.
And kiss you
Ladyblue tasted like sweetener, and Chat Noire couldn’t get enough.
And kiss you
They broke away for air, but they could barely get some as they laughed at one another.
And kiss you
They then rested their foreheads against each other as they calmed down – goofily smiling.
And kiss you
“Is it too soon that I just want to kiss you?” Ladyblue asked in a hushed tone.
And kiss you
Chat Noire giggled. “We can do it as much as you want, milady,” she whispered.
And kiss you
Ladyblue chuckled then closed her eyes and kissed her again, which Chat Noire gleefully returned.
Till Monday

felix felicis (iii)
word count: 3.0k
part iii/iv
genre: fluff, harry potter au
pairing: hufflepuff!felix x ravenclaw!reader
a/n: it’s been uhhhhhhhhhhhhh over a year since i last update this whoOPS i am so sorry to keep you all waiting. thank you to everyone who patiently waited, and to everyone who’s new, i hope you like it!! there will be one more part to this series (that i will try my best to write in less than a year lol) (also for obvious reasons w**jin will no longer be a part of this fic)
the day of the gryffindor vs ravenclaw quidditch match has your stomach in knots, not about the game itself (you really couldn’t care less about the results) but about the boy you’re going to be spending the next couple hours with.
“okay y/n, first things first: that tiny ball is the golden snitch, and-”
“felix, i’m not stupid,”
“right, yeah, sorry i’m just uhh..excited is all,’ he says shyly. you watch as the two teams whizz around the pitch, trying to keep track of all the different balls and players as felix rambles on about the rules to you. despite chan, changbin and jisung being your closest friends, you’ve never actually come out to watch them play before, always finding an excuse to stay indoors instead of sitting miserable and alone on an uncomfortable bench in typically  less-than-pleasant weather.
“wow y/n, your friends are actually really, really good quidditch players.” felix comments with a look of mild surprise. “too bad they’re not hufflepuffs!”
“actually, at your last game they were telling me they wish you were in gryffindor, so i guess you’re not too bad yourself,” you comment with a small smile, and you have to stifle a laugh as felix’s face turns bright red. you hate to admit it, but felix is really, really cute--especially bundled up in his yellow hat and scarf, his hair sticking out and gently waving in the breeze whenever someone flies by on broomstick.
you watch the game in silence for a moment, still trying to find the appeal for the sport. the game’s been going for a while now, with neither team having found the snitch yet, although gryffindor’s leading in points. jisung zooms around the far end of the pitch, expertly evading the ravenclaw beaters’ attacks and catching the quaffle with a flourish. it doesn’t take long before he’s put the quaffle through one of the ravenclaw goalposts, and the gryffindor crowd roars in excitement. jisung does a lap of the pitch, posing ridiculously and waving to the crowd to get them even more riled up. you hear felix squeal in excitement beside you, and turn to look at him with curiosity.
“that’s just the best feeling ever, flying through the air and just having fun like that. it’s so freeing,” he says with a contented sigh. you furrow your brows and turn back to look at jisung, who’s now rejoined his team as the game continues.
“really? i mean, it doesn’t seem that great. it looks so cold and windy, and what if you fall? yeah, no thanks i’d rather stick to the ground,” you state. it’s not like you want to offend felix or anything, but you just really don’t get the hype about flying.
“what?? you don’t like flying y/n?? but it’s so epic!” felix says in disbelief, and you shake your head in response.
“the only time i’ve ever ridden a broomstick is way back in first year, when we had to learn the basics, and i’ve got no interest in trying again.”
“i’ve never met someone so opposed to flying,”
“well, that’s what happens when you fall off and break your wrist and can’t take proper notes for weeks,” you say, wrinkling your nose at the memory. “see unlike you, i’m not gifted with good luck.”
felix looks at you blankly for a moment, thinking to himself, before a wide grin creeps onto his face.
“no.”
“i haven’t even said anything yet!!”
“ok but i know what you’re thinking and i am NOT riding a broomstick, felix!”
“oh come on y/n, live a little!! it’ll be so much fun! what, are you afraid of heights?” felix asks teasingly. you shoot him a glare in response.
“yes!! besides, i don’t even own a broomstick.”
“yeah i kinda figured, so we can just use mine! i’m sure we’ll both fit, it might be a bit squishy though…” felix trails off in his own thoughts, and you choke on your own spit. you turn to look at the pitch, trying to focus on the game rather than thoughts of being pressed up against felix and holding onto him for dear life, breathing in the scent of h-
“eh, i think it’ll work fine. so it’s settled, after the game i’m taking you for a ride.” felix says definitively, interrupting your thoughts (good timing too, your brain was entering dangerous territory).
“i dunno, felix…. it really doesn’t sound safe, i mean two people on a broomstick? i don’t care how lucky you are, i’m not taking any chances.”
“y/n, i promise nothing bad will happen. we won’t even go that high, and we can take it slow. trust me, it’ll be okay,” felix says, tentatively placing a hand over yours and looking into your eyes. you’re silent for a moment; has felix ever been this sincere in his life? you let out a sigh of defeat.
“i better not regret this.” you mumble, and felix squeals in excitement. your heart flutters a bit when he grabs onto your upper arm enthusiastically
“you won’t, y/n!! it’ll be so much fun, i can’t wait. it’s gonna change your life for the better,” felix says confidently, and although you roll your eyes at him, you can’t help but smile giddily to yourself.
***
the game ends in an overwhelming victory for gryffindor, and you and felix dodge red and gold banners and streamers on your way out of the pitch past ecstatic gryffindors and gloomy ravenclaws. you finally make it out, your stomach filling with dread as you remember what’s happening now.
“i’ll be right back y/n, i’m just gonna go grab my broomstick from the locker room!” felix says excitedly, before rushing off into the depths of the pitch structure. you stand awkwardly by yourself, shoving your hands into your pockets for warmth. your breath escapes your lips in visibles plumes, the air growing colder as the sun begins to sink lower into the sky. one of your professors walks by, reminding you to return to the castle, and you nod, telling them you’re just waiting for a friend. it’s not a complete lie, right? you think to yourself. the adrenaline from not only your upcoming flight, but also breaking the rules again (and for felix, of all people) fills your body with jitters.
as you wait for felix for what seems like forever, your mind starts to wander. watching the game with him today was...surprisingly fun? and my goodness, the way his eyes sparkled or his voice got squeaky when someone made an awesome play was maybe the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. not to mention his freckled cheeks, rosy from the biting cold, or his tiny hands that flailed excitedly when talking about strategies. was chan right after all? do you have feelings for felix? no, that’s absurd. you’re just excited to have made a new friend is all...haha...right?
you don’t get the chance to think more about it before someone pounces on you from behind.
“Y/N!!! YOU CAME!!!!” jisung’s loud voice rings in your ear.
“ew get off me, you’re all sweaty,” you say with a grimace as you shove the excited boy off your shoulders. “but good job guys, you did great! who knew you were actually good at quidditch huh,” you tease, and chan gives you a playful nudge.
“i saw you with a certain hufflepuff boy in the stands,” he says, wiggling his eyebrows, and you slap him on the arm.
“ok he practically forced me to go, it was the only way to stop his stupid begging and whining,” you argue, and your three gryffindor friends nod their heads in clear disbelief.
“sure y/n, keep telling yourself that.” chan says, giving you a pat on the head which you swat away.
“sorry that took so long, i-” felix’s out-of-breath voice stops mid sentence when he spies you with the other boys. “oh uh, hi,” he says shyly, clearly not expecting their presence. your friends grin knowingly and changbin and jisung start to whisper to each other. chan puts on a friendly smile and greets felix back, reaching out to shake his hand.
“thanks for coming out even though your house wasn’t playing,” he says, and felix seems to warm up to chan a bit.
“i’d never turn down a chance to watch a good quidditch match! you guys are amazing,” he babbles, and you giggle at his enthusiasm, glad to see him and chan connecting.
“you’re not so bad yourself dude. too bad we’ll have to crush you in a few weeks,” chan teases, and all the boys laugh.
“i’m impressed you were able to drag this one out, we’ve been trying to get them to come to our games for years,” changbin groans, gesturing to you. felix shrugs in response.
“i mean it wasn’t too hard, just a small bribe of some chocolate frogs and here we are,” felix says, and you feel three pairs of eyes burning into your soul. you can practically feel the smirks on their faces, and you can already hear the teasing you’ll experience later.
“well anyways, we’re gonna hit up the great hall for some snacks on our way back, you coming? you’re welcome to join us, felix,” jisung invites.
“um actually...felixistakingmeforarideonhisbroomstick,” you splutter out, and you hear jisung make a strange noise of disbelief at what he just heard.
“sorry, what?” chan asks, and the grin on his face tells you he knows exactly what you just said. you let out an annoyed huff and repeat yourself.
“felix is taking me for a ride on his broomstick, and we better get going before it gets too late.” you say in defeat and embarrassment, reaching to grab a confused felix’s hand so you can get away from your friends before they have the chance to say anything about it. jisung opens his mouth to make what you assume is a raunchy joke about riding broomsticks, but a death glare from you shuts him up.
“okay, have fun! but not too much fun,” chan says with a wink before quickly ushering a protesting jisung and changbin back towards the castle. you’re grateful for the falling darkness, because you can feel how bright your cheeks are burning right now.
“i’m so sorry about them,” you apologize, and felix laughs it off.
“they seem fun,” he says, then tugs on your hand gently. “follow me, i know the best place to go where we won’t get caught. trust me, i sneak out all the time with hyunjin and minho and we’ve never seen a soul.” you nod nervously as you follow felix’s lead, praying that you won’t regret this.
after a bit of walking and some light conversation, you arrive at a small clearing near the edge of the lake.
“this is SO against the rules,” you mutter to yourself as you step over some large roots. felix gets to a spot where the sky above is clear (and growing darker by the minute), and there’s lots of room around you. he straddles the broomstick and motions for you to join him. as you make your way behind him, you can’t help but wonder if you're more nervous about flying or about the prolonged close contact with felix. there are so many layers of clothing between us, you tell yourself, it’s fine. you place your arms loosely around felix’s waist, nervous to get any closer.
“we’re gonna start off just hovering, okay? we’ll take it slow, it’ll be alright. you can tell me if you want to stop, but i really think it’ll be fine, trust me,” he says to comfort you, and you nod. felix kicks off the ground, and you gasp as you feel your feet dangling in the air. instinctively, your arms squeeze tightly around felix, and you press yourself as close to him as possible.
“i can feel your heart racing, it’s okay just relax!” felix says with a laugh.
“easy for you to say, you practically live on a broomstick,” you grumble, and you feel felix’s body shake with giggles underneath you.
“i’m gonna take us a bit higher now,” felix says, and you press your face into his back as you feel yourselves rise higher, the air getting colder as you ascend. you feel a gentle breeze tangling your locks, and the broomstick begins to inch forward. you open one eye slightly and let out a small squeak as you see how far the ground is below you. you’re almost above the height of the trees now, and felix is doing slow laps of the clearing.
“see, it’s not too bad, right?” he asks, and you force yourself to open your eyes again. if you don’t look straight down, you have to admit the view is really nice. trees and rolling hills pepper the landscape, and you can see the quidditch pitch and hogwarts a bit farther in the distance. the last rays of sun are reflecting off of the lake, and the twilight sky is beginning to sparkle with the night’s brightest stars.
“yeah, i guess it is pretty nice,” you begrudgingly agree. your knuckles are white as you hold on to felix for dear life, but the more time you spend up here the more you realize how stable he’s keeping the broomstick, and how much he does seem to be taking caution to make sure you’re comfortable. you let out a shaky sigh as you try to relax and take in the scenery as you hover above the trees.
“there’s one more thing we can do, if you’re okay with it,” he says, asking for your trust. you say nothing, simply nodding into his back; you’re afraid if you open your mouth you’ll regret it. as soon as he has your confirmation, the broomstick suddenly bursts forward and you can’t help but let out a piercing shriek.
“FELIX!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!!” you manage to yell over the howling wind. your eyes are tearing up from the cold night air, and your throat feels dry, and you’re convinced your heart’s stopped beating. felix just lets out a joyful laugh in response, yelling back to you “SHOWING YOU THE BEST THING ABOUT FLYING!” before plunging the nose of the stick into a dive towards the ground. he pulls up, of course, and does a few more fancy tricks before slowing down to a more leisurely pace above the treetops.
you sit there in shock for a moment, wide eyed and breathless, trying to take in the wild turn of events.
“WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!! YOU IDIOT WE COULD’VE DIED OR SOMETHING,” you scream in between breaths, still trying to get your heart to stop racing.
“but we didn’t, right? i told you you could trust me!! was that not fun??” he asks, giddy with adrenaline. you choose not to respond, because he’s right--as much as his sudden moves scared the living daylights out of you, you have to admit it felt pretty freeing.
“this is my favourite view,” felix says to change the topic, and you lift your head up to look around. you’re coasting above the lake, the last rays of sun painting the landscape golden. more stars are out now, and the glow of the castle feels truly magical and welcoming. you steal a glance at felix, cheeks nose and ears bright red from the cold but an awestruck look on his face nonetheless. you don’t think you’ve ever seen him look so peaceful and content, and the feeling spreads to you as you finally relax your grip a little and rest your cheek on felix’s back.
“thank you, felix,” you mumble, feeling surprisingly at ease now.
“sorry, what was that?” he asks and you can hear the grin in his voice.
“i’m not saying it again,” you warn, and he remains silent. part of you wishes you could live in this moment forever, gliding over the mirror-like surface of the water with the warmth of felix to stave away the cold tendrils of night air.
“we should uh, head back. it’s getting pretty late,” he eventually says after a comfortable silence passes. you nod in agreement, and felix takes you back to the quidditch pitch, where he returns his broomstick quickly before coming back to walk with you to the castle. the walk back is mostly silent, with the two of you hiding from professors and prefects a couple times but making it back to the ravenclaw common room unseen. there seems to be some shift in the energy between you now, the silences feeling a bit more awkward than before, but neither of you wants to acknowledge it.
“well, uh, thanks for trusting me. and sorry if i scared you,” felix says with a small laugh as you reach to door to the common room.
“it’s okay, i uh...i actually had a really good time. you’re right, you know, it is a really wonderful feeling being up there.” you admit. you have to stop yourself from adding “with you” to the end of that sentence. “so thank you for everything, lix,” you say and you cringe at the nickname that accidentally escaped your lips. felix tries to hold back a smile but fails miserably, blushing at the nickname.
“goodnight, y/n,” he says after clearing his throat.
“um..goodnight,” you say before going to answer the riddle to enter the common room. as you mutter the answer and begin to enter, you hear felix call after you.
“y/n?”
“yeah?”
there’s a long pause.
“uh, nevermind. goodnight!” he says, and before you know it he’s down the stairs and out of sight. confused, you creep up to your dormitory to get ready for bed. your dreams that night are filled with the wind rushing through your hair, beautiful landscapes whizzing past you, and most importantly of all, felix’s joyful laugh ringing in your ears.

your art is so pretty ;-; it makes my day seeing it.. can i ask, did it take a long time to get your art to where it is now? and was it a hard process? i wanna get better at art but i dont know how ;-; call me aku! i think ill be asking alot/praising you about your art lol
aku thank u sm ;v; i’m really touched..
um shhshshs to be fully honest i started drawing last december-ish...... just for this blog because of brainrot lmaOoo.... i think that’s kinda obvious if u scroll through my #demi doodles tag and see my sad first posts :’D
although!!! i did tryhard middle school art class a long time ago and i vouch, if u really get into it, u can learn a lot :> i think starting early even when i didnt continue painting afterwards still means a lot, bc since then i always saw art with a more critical & appreciative eye and i guess i still learned through osmosis?? LOL
that being said, the bulk of my learning really was done these past lovely brainrotty months, so don’t sweat it if u start late :) my dad is 58 now and my recent enthusiasm in doodling afflicted him too so now we’re learning together <333 and i adore what he makes already
i made a tutorial for my own painting style here aku nonnie, but there’s so many other resources available online elsewhere for learning too :> here’s my own personal tips for quick improvement below the cut ‼️
firstly i am seconding the ‘general painting tips’ section of the tutorial i linked :>
particularly about which fundamental concepts of art/drawing that u should really explore if u wanna improve quickly! (ex. for drawing humans, learning proportion and gesture is much more useful than detailed anatomy!)
focused practices on areas of art u wanna improve in >>>>>
figure out precisely where u need to improve and focus on solving those issues. smth i like to do is to doodle without reference, find similarly-composed but much nicer art that does the specific thing really well, and then compare & analyze what i’m missing or could do better
in general, looking at other people’s art that u like and figuring out what exactly u like abt it is great! at least thats how i improved in the years i didnt even touch a sketchbook
VARY the art u make as much as possible! even if u have a certain favorite style, in the learning process its important to explore as much as possible. this includes varying the subject matter (draw hoomans a lot? try nature or backgrounds!), the art styles (realism is important to try! but so is stylization!!), the media (i learned SO much so fast when i switched from traditional to digital!), and more!!
comics helped me bc i was forced to make things i don’t naturally love to, like those damn flowers T_T in general incorporating things u need to focus on into projects u love (comics for me, maybe character design for u?) is a great cheat to making the process seem easy :>
ask for feedback!!!!!!
use MANY references every time u draw!!!!!
but ofc nothing beats drawing often. its okay to just draw what u like so u can keep going—i’m personally 100% brainrot fuelled and it did me wonders lol. in the end putting in the hours is what will give u a strong grasp, and its also what u need to develop a style. frequent ‘disposable’ but thoughtful doodles >>>> sparse ‘masterpieces’
be kind to your art. know it is already amazing now, but you WILL keep improving. i believe in you
that’s all i got off the top of my head! it seems kinda overwhelming when i ramble about it this way lol i’m sorry :’> but these are all just lighthearted tips to make drawing more fun! in the end, what’s important is that you are having fun creating. brainrot and tumblr is DEFINITELY my secret :) good luck aku i’m rooting for you!

The TV was blaring louder than usual as you were cooking breakfast, your head turning every now and then to pay attention to the news as well as make sure you didn’t burn your house down. But you knew you had to tune into what was going on, especially since your boyfriend was the one the reporters were talking about.
Not every girl was able to say that they were going out with the Midoriya Izuku: the number one hero and the new symbol of peace. And here you were, lucky enough to have him as your boyfriend.
Since middle school, you and Midoriya were attached to the hip. You were able to watch your quirkless best friend grow into a strong man as time flew right past the two of you. Although you had no intention of being a pro hero, you were always ecstatic to see Midoriya on TV during the U.A. sports festivals, not to mention how terrified you were whenever class A was attacked by the League of Villains.
Nevertheless, you had a relationship with Midoriya that was strictly friends only for a majority of the time you knew him. But somewhere along the way, the more you saw him and began to realize he wasn’t the timid middle school kid that constantly got picked on for his quirklessness, you developed feelings for him.
Your feelings developed gradually, something that didn’t just dawn on you one day while you were hanging out with him. But once you did have that realization, you weren’t afraid to address your feelings directly to him. Needless to say Midoriya hadn’t always been the best with confrontations concerning romance but he knew deep down he would be lying if he said he didn’t like you back.
And here you were, a month into your new relationship with your best friend. You initially were afraid of ruining your friendship that you cherished deeply, even now still having this fear in the back of your mind whenever you were with your boyfriend, but you also knew you would never be able to suppress the way you felt about Midoriya any further.
Regardless of your fears, you were happy with your decision, enjoying the way that your newly developed relationship began to blossom the more time you spent with Midoriya.
“The Hero Public Safety Commision Center is holding a strictly pro heroes only meeting at the moment concerning the issue with the newly organized villain group that attacked Jaku City last week,” the news reporter explained to the audience.
You sighed, turning the stove off and placing your breakfast onto a plate to eat. You remembered Midoriya explaining how crucial and important this meeting was as he rambled on, like he usually did, about the various kinds of pros that would be attending the conference. He was excited to meet his old classmates from U.A. who he hadn’t seen in years since he began his pro hero occupation, but was also unsettled by the numerous villain attacks that have been occurring over the past few weeks.
As you sat yourself on your sofa in front of the TV and ate breakfast, you glanced curiously at a yellow folder sitting on the edge of the table. You reached over and grabbed it, examining the contents of the mysterious folder.
“That idiot,” you muttered as you read the papers. One of them read “Notes for the Hero Commission Meeting” and you shook your head, surprised that Midoriya, who was always neat and organized especially since he’s constantly writing something down, forgot such important papers for the meeting.
Standing to your feet with the folder in hand, you grabbed your keys and your coat, wanting to make sure your boyfriend would be well prepared for his meeting by getting the file to him immediately.
***
Saying that the Commission Center building was ginormous would be an understatement. Fortunately you managed to find your way to the center since its giant stature made it so easy to locate. You pushed open the huge doors to the building, approaching one of the receptionists at the front desk. “Hi, I’m looking for Deku, he left this and it’s crucial that he gets this for the meeting today.”
The woman shook her head, giving you a sympathetic smile. “I’m sorry, m’am, but I believe the meeting has just started and I can’t interrupt them right now.”
“Ah, I understand. Thank you.” You turned around, gripping the file in hand.
Before you could mentally scold your boyfriend for forgetting something so important, you turned your head, seeing Midoriya down the hall outside the conference room, looking outwardly distraught.
“Babe!” You called out, cupping a hand around your mouth so that he would be able to hear you.
Midoriya whipped his head towards you, his whole face burning into a bright crimson shade as you approached him. “Y-Y/N? What’re you doing here?”
You extended your arm out, handing the file to him. “You forgot this at my place. Be careful next time, I know how big this meeting is.”
Midoriya blinked rapidly, a sheen of sweat forming on his forehead as he nodded his head a few times. “R-Right, thanks for this. I, uh, need to head in now.”
You nodded, giving him a small smile. “Good luck!”
Midoriya sent a nervous smile back to you, proceeding inside the conference room. You turned around towards the lobby, sitting down in the waiting room as you asked the receptionists if you could wait until the meeting was over for Midoriya. They allowed you to do so and you sat yourself down.
You glanced towards the conference room every now and then, the image of Midoriya’s uneasiness when you spoke with him popping up in your mind. That meeting must be making him anxious, you thought to yourself. It was the only thing that made sense to you to explain how on edge he was.
You waited around for about thirty minutes, deciding to get up and get coffee for you and Midoriya as sitting down for such a long time was getting boring. Peering over through the window of the coffee shop, you saw a few pro heroes exit the Commission Center, a newly formed crowd of reporters greeting them. You even recognized your old classmate from middle school and fated rival of Midoriya, Bakugou amongst the pros.
You grabbed your coffees and exited the cafe, waiting just outside of the crowd for Midoriya. Finally you spotted him, maneuvering the coffees into your arm to grab your phone to send him a text. You didn't want to call him out in front of so many reporters, especially since the media had always been so nosy and intrusive in the personal lives of pros. The last thing Midoriya needed was for strangers with cameras to flash their devices at the sight of his girlfriend waiting for him, not to mention your relationship was still so fresh and new.
Midoriya sent you a response, agreeing to meet up at his house since it was closer than your place and he didn’t want the probing crowd to follow him and figure out where you lived. Nonetheless you walked down the street, annoyed as you could hear Midoriya try and ease the crowd from prying into confidential matters. But you knew you would only cause him more trouble if you directly confronted the reporters to ask them to leave him alone so you held back your tongue and somehow managed to reach his house.
Midoriya took a shortcut, using his quirk to lose the reporters and you went through the side door just in case any lurking reporters caught you waiting at his front door step.
Midoriya let out a sigh as he slipped in his home, successfully avoiding the crowd. He smiled at you, hoping he hadn’t kept you waiting too long.
“Sorry about that. Those news reporters can be a hassle to deal with.”
You shook your head, handing him his coffee as he thanked you. “It’s fine. It’s not your fault you’re so popular that those assholes want to know everything about you.” Midoriya laughed, taking a sip from his drink.
“Did everything go well in the meeting, baby?” You asked, leaning on a table in the living room.
Midoriya nearly choked on his coffee, his eyes widening and his body stiffening. His face began to heat up, his cheeks ablaze a deep pink hue once again. You raised a concerned brow at him, setting your coffee down and placing a hand on his shoulder. The action and your touch only made him feel even more rigid. “Are you okay?”
“Uh, yeah, I-I’m f-fine,” he managed to sputter out.
“Are you still nervous from the meeting?”
Midoriya gave you a confused look. “What do you mean?”
“Well, you were acting the same way before the meeting so I thought you’re still nervous ‘cause of the meeting,” you explained.
Midoriya let out a small chuckle, rubbing the nape of his neck as he thought about how to elucidate this to you. “Um, it’s not because of the meeting that I’m… acting like this. I’m just not used to hearing you call me b-baby.”
You laughed for a moment, surprised you hadn’t figured it out earlier, especially since you’ve known him for so long. You rose your hands to his face, cupping his cheeks which only made him blush furiously. “Izuku, you’re adorable when you’re flustered.”
You stood on the balls of your feet, planting a peck on his lips, which nearly caused him to short circuit on the spot.
No matter how your relationship developed or how long you would be with him, Midoriya could never get used to your cute pet names for him… not that he minded.

Steven wandered into the little corner drugstore and immediately stopped in his tracks. Why had he volunteered for this job? He had no idea where to even start to look for what he needed.
He picked the first aisle, but that proved fruitless—just makeup products, razors, deodorant, shaving cream—not what he was sent in to retrieve. He stopped walking again and scratched his head, looking around helplessly, hoping one of the store employees would walk by. It wasn’t likely; it was almost midnight and he was pretty sure he was the only one in the 24-hour mart besides the one employee forced to man the register. All he had for company was the pop music playing faintly.
Steven suddenly heard steps behind him and turned, growing hopeful as his eyes landed on you, inspecting nail polish. Your hair, shiny and healthy, was hiding your face from his and you were dressed in an oversized shirt that nearly swallowed you whole with short shorts barely peeking out from underneath. He approached you quickly before he lost his chance.
“Hey, could you help me out?” His words had come out too loud; you jumped and appeared startled at the sight of him. Instinctively, he stuck his hands up. “I’m sorry!” He laughed, smiling as you placed a hand to your chest. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“…It’s okay.” You gave a hesitant smile back. Your voice was soft and melodic, and your face—now visible—was, to his surprise, very appealing. All of your features formed a very complimentary complexion, but your eyes, taking him in with a mixture of curiosity and hesitancy, were the most beautiful color he had ever seen. He hadn’t even realized you had spoken.
“Sorry, what did you say?” He apologized quickly, feeling himself smile before blurting out, “you’re just really beautiful.”
For a moment you were speechless, and he found himself getting a thrill out of the grin that graced your features; he had a feeling you were hiding a beautiful smile. He felt an extra touch of pride at the slight pink tone to your cheeks. “Oh! Um, well thanks. But uh, you were asking for my help…?” Suddenly, he remembered his task.
“Oh yeah! Thanks, yeah, I was wondering if you knew where I could find a pregnancy test?” Immediately, your smile shrank a bit.
“…Oh, um, yeah. I think I know where you could find that.” He didn’t like the sudden shift in mood.
“It’s not for me!” He explained quickly, laughing a bit to himself; maybe you thought he was an idiot.
“No, of course not.” You replied, and he was still unable to figure out the source of the disappointment dripping into your tone. “Here, should be down this aisle.” Steven followed behind you down the aisle full of feminine products and condoms, watching you stop and bend over to look at the items on the shelf. He tried to keep his eyes from wandering, but he would’ve been lying if he said he wasn’t finding you more and more attractive by the second. “This should do the trick.” You told him, placing a box into his hands.
“You’re amazing! Thanks a bunch!” You only gave him a half-smile and nodded a little.
“Sure…well, good luck with everything.” Steven frowned a little, tilting his head.
“What do ya mean? I told you it’s not for me.” He said. You chuckled a little.
“Of course not, obviously. But I mean, your girlfriend…or wife.” You mumbled, looking down. Steven blinked for a moment before he started laughing.
“Oh, I see what you mean! No, it’s not like that; see, one of my best friends is in the car outside with his girlfriend—well, not really girlfriend; that’s why this would be sort of a problem if she were pregnant. It’s a funny store really—the condom broke. She’s actually probably not, but she kinda got upset right before she was gonna come in, so I just volunteered to get it and didn’t realize I had no clue where to find it. So, you really turned out to be an angel sent to help me out.” He found himself rambling, smiling more and more as your smile returned.
“Oh…” You murmured in embarrassment. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have assumed.”
“Don’t be!” He reassured you, unable to stop himself from reaching out and placing a hand on your shoulder. He felt an odd flutter of something stirring in his stomach when your cheeks turned pink again. “Hey, I never even got your name.”
“It’s Y/N.” You smiled. “God, I wish I were wearing something different; I look like a mess right now.”
“I can’t imagine you getting any better.” At this point, he wasn’t even trying to hide the fact that he found you to be very beautiful. Never had he seen a more natural beauty in someone before, apparent in your every action.
“You’re just saying that.” You replied, eyes narrowed playfully at him, though your pink cheeks still gave you away.
“Nope, honest! You distracted me from the moment we met.” He smiled at the sound of your laughter. “Hey, Y/N, if I could ask another favor…” he murmured, looking down at the pregnancy test in his hands. “I’m thinking I need a couple more things.”
You helped Steven find the rest of his impromptu list; prenatal vitamins and a bag of gummy bears. “Just in case, you know. I’m not going to assume what she’s going to do if she actually is pregnant, but…just in case. And who doesn’t like gummy bears?” You smiled at him and nodded.
“That’s…really sweet of you. You must be a great friend.” You replied, to which he shrugged despite the fact that your praise had him glowing.
“I try, I mean, I believe in doing good by the people you love, you know? What you give, you get back in the end.” Steven realized to himself the longer he stared at you, the more he voluntarily would have loved to spend the rest of his night doing so. “So, Y/N, you know why I’m here so late, what brings you in here?”
“Well, not really a reason at all.” You admitted. “I actually told myself I was gonna head to bed early tonight, I’ve just been exhausted lately from everything, and yet…here I am.”
“Did it hurt?” Steven asked with a grin, watching your face grow blank with confusion.
“Did what hurt?”
“When you fell from heaven?” You groaned at his words, the both of your laughter combining together. “C’mon—it’s a sign! Clearly we were supposed to meet and you were meant to help me out.”
“Is that all I was meant to do?” You asked hopefully, crossing your arms behind your back and biting your lip. He wasn’t expecting the heavy wave of butterflies that hit him, he didn’t know feelings could just grow like that. But that was that, he was sure he had fallen in love with you.
“I hope not.” He replied quickly. “Do you want to go out sometime?” The both of you were dragging your steps as you headed towards the register, reluctant to let your time together end.
“I’d love that.” You replied with a bright grin and Steven thought he was going to float away, just like in the cartoons.
“Sir, are you paying cash or credit card?” The clerk asked him, popping his dream bubble. He turned his attention back to the lady, digging in his pocket.
“Cash…” He trailed off when he realized the total was more than the cash Slash had given him for the pregnancy test before he came into the store. He didn’t have any more money on him, they weren’t yet making much at their small gigs. “Uh…” he chuckled awkwardly. “This is embarrassing, I’ve only got enough for the test. I’ll just, put the other things back.” He was surprised when your hand stopped his from taking away the other two items.
“I’ve got it.” You told him, already opening your wallet.
“Oh no, Y/N, I could never let you do that.” You shook your head at him and smiled.
“We should do good by other people, you’re right. Let me?” He smiled and finally nodded. If he wasn’t sure before he definitely was now; he was head over heels for you.
“I’ll pay you back, I promise! You’re amazing, Y/N!” He gushed as the both of you walked out of the store.
“Don’t mention it, I don’t mind. But if you want to do something to pay me back…here.” He grew confused when you stopped him from walking and turned him away from you. “Give me the receipt?” Suddenly, he could feel you using his back as a writing surface before handing him the receipt. There was a smiley face and a heart, your name, and your number. “Call me.”
“I definitely will, and don’t be surprised if it’s tonight.” You shook your head at him and giggled.
“Steven, geez, what took you so long? You only had to get one thing!” Slash hollered over at him from where he sat in the car. You peered towards the car curiously, smiling and giving him a lingering touch to his shoulder.
“You should probably go, I’ll be hearing from you soon, okay?” You said, giving him a little wave.
“Totally, I promise! Be careful, okay? Have a good night!” He called, waving back and watching your every step, ignoring Slash honking like he didn’t hear it.
“Did you get lost?” Slash asked when Steven rejoined him in the car.
“Yeah.” He laughed. “But I found it!” He passed the bag to Denise, Slash’s friend. Her face lit up when she looked in the bag.
“You got me gummy bears? Thank you, Steven! Oh…and prenatal vitamins. That’s so nice.” He couldn’t tell from her tone if the purchase was a good thing or not, but that wasn’t exactly his business.
“Just in case, it’s okay if you don’t use them! Or if you don’t have to. Y/N bought them!”
“Who’s Y/N?” Slash asked in confusion. “And where’s my gummy bears…” he muttered, flashing Steven a grin as he laughed.
“Oh, this girl I met in the store—she actually helped me find everything. She’s great, she’s got the prettiest smile—”
“Fuck, Stevie, you were supposed to get one thing and you came out with a girlfriend!” Slash shook his head, laughing a little.
“Hey! Not yet, she isn’t.” He defended himself, but couldn’t keep from smiling, already itching to get to the nearest phone. “But I think she will be.”

It’s For My Art
Synopsis: An idea pops into Kevin’s mind, so demanding he can’t seem to shake it off. What happens when the words fly past his lips?
Word Count: 3,2 k
Genre: fluff, university au!, artist Kevin x swimmer/special needs teacher reader
Warnings: none
Member: Kevin
A/N: This work was so hard to get right… I really hope I did it justice in the end. I’ve experimented with a new pov in this, I hope you like the change! Enjoy~
Tumblr media
  Kevin was content with looking at you from afar. He leaned against the wall as Chanhee blabbered on to him and Jacob about one thing or the other. The loud music rang in his ears, in combination with the liquor in his cup. The smell of cigarettes and sweat filled the air and Kevin did his best to brush it off.
  He stole glances at you, trying to be sneaky and not stare too hard. You were sitting on the couch with some of your friends, giggling back and forth. Kevin hated the fact that you turned to your friend so much, showing him the view of your strong shoulders and back.
  The spaghetti sleeves of your dress did little to conceal your back, topped off with your hair tied in a high ponytail… It was enough to drive him wild. He nodded then and again, pretending to listen to his friend’s conversation as his thoughts became hazy.
  Kevin was an art major. Since he was little, his hands were filled with colour as he dug his little hands in whatever paint supplies he could find. Slowly but surely he cultivated his talent, which managed to grant him a position at one of the most prestigious universities in the country.
  As an artist, it was easy for him to find beauty in everything. The most mundane things sparked his interest and his inspiration derived from almost anything, to some spilled coffee on his kitchen counter, to the myriad of colours in a sunset.
  He recalled now seeing you for the first time only a week ago, in the grass outside the main building on your campus. Contrary to popular belief, almost no one sat on the grass at your campus, and yet there you were, lying on your stomach, feet up in the air, your nose buried inside a book and earplugs hanging from your ears.
  You were just perfect. Kevin had been looking for someone just like you, broad shoulders and back for the longest time for one of his long-term projects. He had tried some of his friends, but until then, it had taken too much convincing and too feeble a result for him to be satisfied.
 The past week, he couldn’t take you off his mind. The anonymous girl from uni, whose broad shoulders made his inspiration run wild. And now that you were standing only a few feet away from him, his mind was hazy with thoughts of you.
  “I’m getting another drink” he announced to his friends, earning an eager nod from Jacob.
  As he made his way to the kitchen, he scoured the rows of different bottles for something he recognized. His eyes landed upon a brand of tequila he knew he liked, so he reached for it. At that moment, another hand made its way on top of the bottle, holding a tight grip on the neck.
  Kevin’s eyes made yours across the kitchen island, making him gasp. You giggled at his unexpected reaction, cocking your head to one side in confusion.
  “Want one?” you asked him.
  “Yes” he simply answered, nodding his head for good measure.
  “Strong or easy? Can you handle your alcohol, sweetie?” you asked him again.
  “Sure” he answered as you poured both your drinks.
  “Ask her, you idiot” his brain was screaming at him. Yet he remained silent, accepting the cup you offered him while muttering a small thank you.
  “No problem, sweetie. Have fun!” you encouraged him, before turning right on your heels and walking out.
  “Fucking hell” he muttered to himself as he assumed his place with Jacob and Chanhee.
  Only this time, your eyes were on him. The encouraging smile on your lips made him shuffle in his spot, trying to weasel himself back in his friends’ conversation and ignore your stare.
  Some rounds of shots later, Kevin could definitely feel the effect of the alcohol running in his veins.
  “I’m just going to ask. She can always say no. It’s no big deal. I’ll just re-take the damn class” he was telling his friends.
  “Do you really think this is the time and place to ask her? She could say no just because she gets the wrong idea. Why don’t you-” Chanhee was trying to reason with him, when Kevin caught you making your way to the kitchen.
  “I’m doing it now. Wish me luck” he said over his shoulder, already walking towards the kitchen.
  A few shoves and a shower of sorry’s later, he was standing near you once again. After a deep breath, he mustered up the courage to lightly poke you and introduce himself. You turned around, your eyes shining in recognition once they fell on him.
  “Hi, sweetie” you told him.
  “Hi, I’m Kevin” he announced.
  You giggled, nodding your head.
  “Do you want me to fix you another drink, Kevin?” You asked.
  “No, thank you” he replied.
  “Well then, I’ll be going” you said, moving past him.
  Kevin acted quickly, afraid that he was going to lose you.
  “Can I paint your back?” the words flew past his lips before he knew it.
  You turned around, a curious look on your face when you regarded him. At least it wasn’t horrified or disgusted.
  “What?” you asked, your voice getting a little bit high pitched.
  “It’s not a weird thing I promise! I- I’m an art major and we’re doing this project were we have to paint something on anything but a canvas and I was trying out painting on people’s backs and I think yours would work perfect with my theme so I thought, hey, she’ll either think I’m a fucking weirdo or she’ll like the idea and help me with a fun project” Kevin rambled, the words flowing out of him in a hurry to make you understand.
  You stayed quiet, looking at him and he only hoped you were considering his proposal.
  “A project. And you want to paint… On my back?” you ask, your head falling on one side.
  “Yes.” Kevin was quick to answer you.
  You took a few more moments to think, before you started shaking your head. Kevin’s face fell as he felt the rejection approaching. His mind was racing, trying to figure out a way to get to you.
  “Look, Kevin, was it? I’m too drunk for this right now. Let me… Think about it after my hangover.” You proposed.
  “Yes! Yes, take all the time you need, of course” Kevin was quick to comply.
  You reached inside the pocket of your jeans, retrieving your cell phone and handing it to him.
  “Put your phone in there. Imma text you” you said and Kevin did as he was told.
  “‘Weird back guy’? Wow, you hardly give yourself enough credit” you joked.
  “Well, I thought that Kevin would be a little too vague. Maybe ‘Weird back guy’ is going to ring a bell” he said with a light laugh.
  You laughed along with him as you both walked back out to the living room.
  “You’re decent… For a weird back guy I met at a party.” You said.
  “I’ll take it as a compliment. Just text me whenever, okay?” he asked.
  “Sure thing, sweetie” you said, rejoining your friends.
------------------------------------------------------------
  Days flowed by as classes and life managed to distract Kevin from longingly looking at his phone. He was sat on his desk, an array of materials and pieces of paper surrounding him, classical music flowing through his speaker to keep him focused as his hands worked ceaselessly.
  Projects were piling up and he had to get his portfolio ready for the professors to look through. In a streak of creativity, he was pouring out piece after piece, not bothering to inspect them for mistakes, only rushing to work on the next one.
  The dinging of his phone pulled him out of his trance. He completed some finishing touches to his drawing, before cleaning his hands and reaching for his phone.
Unknown
Hey Kevin! It’s Y/N, you know, from the party?
  Kevin’s heart danced in his chest as he read the message. Finally, you had texted him! Pushing his thoughts on the back of his mind, he texted you back.
Kevin’s phone
Of course I remember you! I’m so glad you reached out, and finally I know your name haha
Y/N
Omg that’s so embarrassing I never introduced myself-
Sorry about that, I guess I was too out of it lol
Kevin’s phone
Don’t sweat it, I’m just glad you reached out at all
Y/N
So about that… I did some thinking and then I grew tired of doing it so now I’m saying fuck it
I’m in
  Kevin almost screamed in delight reading the last text. A smile spread on his face as his thoughts were swarmed with things he could draw. Inspiration flowed like a river, drowning his thoughts and making his head ache. He felt jittery, his leg bouncing up and down with excitement.
  Realizing he still hadn’t answered your text, his fingers worked fast on the keyboard.
Kevin’s phone
That’s amazing to hear! I’m so glad you’ll help, I was so ready to just drop everything and hide
Y/N
I’m glad I’m doing this too! It’s going to be fun, right?
Kevin’s phone
Most definitely! I’ll try not to bore you out of your mind lol
When are you free? We can do this in my place since I have all my supplies and whatnot
Y/N
Sure thing! Um, I’m free all afternoon Thursday, is that okay?
  After figuring out a few technical things, like the exact time and giving you directions to his dorm room, Kevin threw his phone on his bed. Giddy with excitement he bounced on his chair as he went through his supplies, making sure he had all the colours he needed.
  This is really happening, huh, he thought to himself as the smile on his lips didn’t seem to falter.
------------------------------------------
  Thursday afternoon came along sooner than Kevin would have liked. He did everything in his power to clean his dorm room, efficiently kicking Jacob out to give you both some privacy.
  Right on time, a knock on his door alerted Kevin of your arrival. He took a deep breath, trying to compose himself as he opened the door for you. You smiled at him and greeted him politely. Kevin was torn between hugging you and merely sharking your hand, when you stepped forward, wrapping your hands around his torso and letting yourself in.
  You leisurely sat down on his bed as if you owned the place, striking up a pleasant conversation with him. After talking to you for a while, he decided to finally take the initiative.
  “If you don’t mind, I think we should get started soon or I’ll lose all the natural light” he told you.
  Your eyes widened for a mere second, so fast he almost missed it. You quickly composed yourself, not saying anything, only nodding at his request.
  “I’m going to go to the bathroom, leave you some time to change. Call for me when you’re ready, okay?” he asked.
  “Okay” you said, but from the tone of your voice he could tell you’re your demeanor was slowly changing.
  “Hey, Y/N, at any point you want me to stop, just say the word. It’s okay, I promise. There’s no point in doing this if you don’t want to.” He tried to reassure you.
  A small smile made its way to your lips as you whispered a thank you. Kevin only nodded, getting in the bathroom and closing the door behind him. He closed his eyes, resting his head on the door as a million pictures rushed behind his eyelids.
  A certain picture kept resurfacing, a cloudy night sky, with some stars still shining through. He knew that was what he was going to be painting today. He only prayed that it would be good enough for his professor.
  “I’m ready now” your voice called from the other room.
  Kevin made straight for his painting supplies, his hands itching to prepare the colours he needed. From the corner of his eye, he saw you lying down on his bed, your top laying neatly folded a few inches away from your head.
  “Do you need another pillow? Are you comfortable enough?” he asked.
  “I think I’m okay. I just don’t know what to do with my hands” you said with a laugh.
  “Don’t worry about it, just try not to fold them if that’s okay” he requested.
  A nod came from you as Kevin finished preparing his colours. The atmosphere was tense as he took a stool to sit next to you, hovering over your body.
  “So… Music?” he asked
  “What about it?” you asked him in return.
  “Do you want to play some? I think I’d bore you too much with the classical music I use when I paint” he said.
  “Okay… Well, there’s been one album I’ve been dying to listen to” you said and Kevin hummed.
  He showed you how to connect your phone to the speaker and was very surprised when you played one of his favourite band’s new album.
  “That’s literally one of my favourite bands” he confessed.
  “Really? That’s so awesome! I only discovered them a few years ago… They’re too good” you said.
  “They really are” Kevin admitted.
  He timidly placed his brush on your body, making you shiver. He chuckled at your reaction, while you let out an awkward laugh.
  “Probably should’ve said something. Sorry” he apologized.
  “It’s okay” you mumbled.
  “So, how did you get to know them again?” he asked you.
  The conversation flowed easily from there on as you seemed to relax more and more under his fingers. He worked while you two talked, allowing his mind to roam free as his hands moved almost without him noticing.
  Sometime later, the album had finished playing and a calm silence had overtaken the room. Kevin’s eyebrows were scrunched together as he placed the finishing touches on his work. Taking a step back he admired his work, until his eyes fell on your face.
  You had fallen asleep somewhere in between, your mouth now hanging open as you breathed evenly. Kevin smiled lightly, as he shook his head. He really had bored you to sleep.
  Taking his camera, he stood on top of your body to take some pictures of the painting on your back. However, his attention was brought to your soft features, your arm hanging down from the bed, palm outstretched, the shapes your hair outlined as they danced over the pillow, the lines of your nose and mouth.
  The clicking of his camera came and went and he could already imagine the way he could edit those later. He tried not to show your features too much, careful not to give away your identity, although he could tell he could hardly show these pictures to anyone but you.
  Putting his camera back in its case, a sigh escaped his lips. He looked back in all he had learned about you today. You were studying to be a special needs teacher, hoping to help children through your work. You had scored a scholarship through swimming, explaining your broad shoulders and strong back. You lived out of campus in a small apartment with your best friend. Your friends were real fun to be around and you loved hanging out with them, but sometimes you found that they were moving too fast for you.
  You liked a lot of the same bands and pretty much listened to the same music. You hanged out at your apartment most of the time, savoring the peace and quiet and opting out from clubs, finding that house parties, quite like the one you met at, were more your style. You favored books over movies and absolutely despised modern art. You also hated poetry, one of your professors and mint chocolate ice cream.
  He realized then, he had gotten so much information just from talking to you on and off as he worked. He couldn’t even imagine how sitting down to actually talk to you would be.
  At that moment, Kevin realized he really wanted to see you again, to get to know you better and he would make sure that would happen.
  He sat in the corner of his bed, placing a hand on your shoulder and shaking you gently. He called your name, but you didn’t seem to stir. Without thinking much of it, he run his hand through your hair in a soothing manner and tried calling your name again.
  This time, you did stir, your eyes opening with effort. A small groan escaped you as Kevin continued running his fingers through your hair. He smiled down at you, not even bothering to hide it.
  “Sorry to wake you, I just thought you might have to leave or something” he told you.
  You stirred, turning to lay on your back and Kevin immediately looked away from your topless form. From the corner of his eye he saw you rubbing your eyes sleepily, humming as an answer to his words.
  “I don’t have anything to do actually, I cleared my afternoon just for you” you said with a laugh.
  “Oh, I’m honored” he told you, eyes still stuck on the opposite wall.
  “Kevin” you called him, sitting up.
  “Yeah?” he asked.
  Your hand was on his chin, your touch so light it felt like he almost dreamt it.
  “I want you to look at me” you whispered, turning his head for your eyes to lock.
  His eyes landed on yours and he was shocked to find you looking at him with hooded eyes. His gaze fell to your lips and felt himself take in a sharp breath.
  “I am looking at you” he said, his eyes finding yours again.
  Like magnets, you moved at the same time, finding each other somewhere in between the distance that was separating you. Your lips found each other in an experimental and passionate kiss, as Kevin’s hands buried themselves in your hair.
  Leaving your lips, he peppered kisses all across your face, before moving to your jaw and neck. Not yet satisfied, his lips found yours again, as the kiss only deepened.
  Breaking away, you moved backwards a bit, tracing his cheek with your hand. He tried reading your eyes and he could clearly see that you were thinking about something, although he wasn’t sure what.
  “What is it?” he asked you in a whisper.
  “Nothing. I’m just glad I came” you told him with a smile, placing a small peck on his nose.
  Without giving him a chance to say anything in return, you get up from his bed, getting your things and disappearing in his bathroom. Kevin hears the shower being turned on, which snaps him back into reality.
  As he finishes packing up his supplies and the spare sheet he had used for you to lay on, now filled with colour, you emerge from the bathroom.
  “Hey” you greet him with a smile.
  “Hey” he says as he smiles back at you.
  “So I’m craving some Chinese food. Care to join?” you ask him.
  The smile on Kevin’s face only grows as he gets on his feet, walking up to you. He holds your hand in his before saying,
  “What are we waiting for?”

A groan of pain escaped your lips as soon as you reached consciousness.
“You’re alive!”
You shot up out of the bed despite your throbbing head’s protest. As soon as you realized you were inside your shared room, with only Jaskier to accompany you, your shoulders relaxed. Still, you frowned at the spot he was in — the chair you planned to occupy for the night. Instead, you were sitting in the middle of the only bed in the room.
Jaskier’s voice broke through your thoughts once again, “You insisted on sleeping in the chair, don’t worry.”
“So why am I here?”
“You fell asleep before you could argue.” He chuckled at the pout that settled on your lips, walking over with a cup and handing it to you. “It’s water. But don’t…spit it at me this time.”
You smiled but took the cup greedily, chugging the liquid to quench your thirst. Once you did, you felt yourself grow slightly awkward. You couldn’t remember everything from last night, how you acted, and you never let yourself drink that much on a job. Jaskier seemed to sense your uneasiness.
“It wasn’t that bad, really.” He took the cup from you, purposefully ignoring your eyes following him as he got more water. “Besides, it’s not like I haven’t seen you pass out twice already.”
“That doesn’t make me feel better.”
“Then maybe this will.” He returned with more water and sat delicately on the end of the bed, the frame squeaking as he did so. “Geralt might have something to help the headache.”
You shook your head, wiping the remnants of water from your lips, “What’s the point of drinking if you’re not going to feel the pain that comes after?” He scrunched his nose up in confusion. You smirked, “What’s wrong? I thought you were a man of adventure.”
“Adventure, yes. Suffering? Not so much.”
“What adventure doesn’t have a little bit of suffering?”
“This one hasn’t been so bad.”
“Hm. Well, don’t test your luck.” You held back another groan as you stood from the bed, slightly swaying on your feet as the pain throbbed heavier against your skull.
“Easy,” Jaskier grabbed your arm to steady you, and for once, you fought back the urge to pull away. You let him hold onto your arm as you blinked away the dizziness. It took a second, but you opened your eyes once the throbbing lessened.
“I’m good.” Jaskier let go and watched you shake your head and shake out your limbs. You walked over to the pitcher of water and chugged another cup. “Where’s Geralt?”
“Right here.” You and Jaskier jumped at the same time, turning towards the now open doorway where Geralt stood. He blinked back, but a glint in his eye told you he was slightly amused at your surprise.
You rolled your eyes, “Great.”
“You ready to head back?”
You nodded and drank another cup of water, “Yeah. Are you?”
The witcher watched you with only what you could describe as curiosity, and a little bit of challenge. You both didn’t know what was waiting for you back in the city, what would happen when you returned. None of you did. And despite the hope in your heart that everything would be wrapped up quickly, your gut knew that wasn’t how it worked. And you guessed the witcher felt the same.
“I most certainly am.” Jaskier clapped his hands together, breaking you and Geralt’s gaze. “As much as I love this little village, I can’t wait to get back to the city. Do you know just how many performances I have missed?”
After you and Geralt simultaneously rolled your eyes at the bard’s comment, the three of you made your way out of the tavern not long after sunrise, once again making the trip to the city with Geralt taking the lead. This time, though, was different. You felt a different kind of uneasiness than before — what once was fear of being found was now fear of finding. This whole time you felt that Rauf would sort what happened with the payer, that he would find out why Jaskier was targeted when he was innocent. But what if he wasn’t? What if this whole time you were fooled by the witcher and the bard? It frightened you that maybe the voice in your head, the one you pushed back, was right. That your feelings were betraying you, that your gut was as trustworthy as your heart. But you pushed that away as the lute strumming bard sang next to you — your gut had been right so far in your life. It wouldn’t turn on you now.
Thankfully, night was upon you when you made it back to the city. It was easy for you to guide Jaskier and Geralt through the twists and turns of the city, keeping utmost furtiveness and staying within the shadows. You led them to another tavern, the only other one in the city — the Golden Sturgeon, which was on the other side of Novigrad. It wasn’t perfectly safe, but to be honest, nowhere was perfectly safe.
“Stay in the room until I get back,” you said as soon as the three of you successfully snuck Jaskier into the room.
To your surprise, Geralt spoke. “How will we know your guild leader has cleared this up?”
You pursed your lips and lifted your hood over your head. With a sigh, you responded, “You won’t.”
And then you were off.
You frowned as you squinted across the street from the merchant’s shop. It was dark, which was your first bad signal. A candle was always on inside, as most assassins in the guild came back late from assignments. You peeked your head out from beyond the alleyway, making sure no one was in sight. When there wasn’t, you snuck up to the doors and checked inside. Sure enough, the shop was empty except for the goods out on display. Still, you tugged on the door. It didn’t budge.
You cursed to yourself and stepped back. Had the guild already left the city? Rauf wouldn’t have left without notifying you somehow. There must be some sort of sign, a note, one only you would find.
Before you could look, the sound of footsteps made you jump away from the door and behind a nearby cart. It took mere seconds before the shop door was opened, and a candle was being waved around in the night.
“Who’s out here?” The voice was ordinary; you couldn’t place it in your memory. With a frown you looked over the cart, and at the sight of the merchant, you immediately jumped up.
“Thank the gods,” you sighed as you walked up to him.
The merchant from the last time you went to the guild only scrunched his face up in distaste, taking a step back. “Huh? Who are you? Why are you breaking in my shop?”
You frowned. “I’m not. I’m trying to get to the guild.”
“The guild? What are you on about?” At this point, you couldn’t tell if he was purposefully giving you a hard time or he was just dumb enough to not recognize you. Either way, you flipped your collar to reveal the guild patch.
The merchant only rolled his eyes, “The fellowship isn’t here anymore. Stop wasting my time.”
“Wait!” You stepped forward, clearing your throat to hide the desperation in your voice. “Where did they go?”
“Not far. They’re still in Novigrad.” You let out a breath of relief as the merchant kept speaking. “Just got a better place to stay. I’ve heard it’s nice. Haven’t gone there myself yet — they said they’d need me for supplies but still haven’t paid for some of the crap they took before.”
You spoke before he could keep rambling on. “Where is it? The guild.”
He looked you up and down with his face scrunched in what seemed like a permanent frown, “Why should I tell you?”
“I’ll tell them to start paying for the…crap they haven’t paid for.”
You waited for the merchant to respond, pleading with your eyes as he looked at you with disdain. “Ah, whatever. They’ll probably swap me out with another sucker soon enough.” He waved the candle he was holding as he turned back towards the shop doors, “It’s closer to Arnet’s guild. Hold on, I got the address inside.”
Confusion struck you as you blindly followed the merchant inside, taking the paper that he wrote instructions on with a ghost of a nod. Rauf had never moved without telling you, hadn’t even mentioned a new place in Novigrad. You supposed he might have been too busy — maybe you were too focused on your assignment and he didn’t have a chance to mention it. But you were still wondering, wondering as you left the merchant’s shop, wondering as you followed the directions he gave you, wondering as you walked up to the two large wooden doors that reminded you of the king of beggars’ hideout.
You cleared your throat and knocked the pattern on the door that the merchant demonstrated for you. It took a second, but a slot in the door slipped open, a new face staring back at you.
“Business?”
At least it was the same script. “I’m here for the fellowship.”
“And?“
Maybe not.
“Um, I’m here to see Rauf. And—“ you revealed the patch on your collar only to receive a grunt in return. You were beginning to miss the merchant, whose grunts were at least somewhat good-natured.
“You know the code?”
“No. I didn’t even know you guys moved here.” Another grunt. You rolled your eyes, “Look, just tell Rauf Y/N is here.”
“Y/N? Shoulda just said that.”
And then the slot was closed, and you were left to blink back where the face was. Soon, you heard the sound of locks being unlatched, a bar being lifted, and then the door was open.
You frowned at the view in front of you. It was…definitely an upgrade from the last guild. The main area, which you guessed was a courtyard of sorts, was full of tables where assassins sat scattered — there were a lot of new faces like the one who had so kindly greeted you at the entrance, along with some familiar ones. They were busy with their games of gwent, though, so they didn’t notice you.
But you were focused on the amount of space that was there, on the nice torches that were set up around the room, on the new weapons area and blacksmith — who was working on what looked like fresh armor. And the smell; nothing like the sewer stench that slung to the underground guild. Instead, you smelt…food.
“Come on, I’ll take you to Rauf’s place.” The man who was once seemingly hostile began walking ahead of you, not bothering to make sure you were following. You followed after quickly, your mind racing a mile a minute — Rauf’s place? As in larger than a single jail cell?
You tried to keep the surprise from your face as you followed the man but still allowed yourself to look around. He led you to a small building on the other end of the courtyard that had another two guards just outside, only letting you through after he told them who you were. You followed him in, where a small waiting area greeted you.
“His office is down that hall.” The man jutted his head straight ahead, where a decently long corridor greeted you. “I’d suggest knocking first—”
“I think I can handle it.” You sent him a sickly sweet smile, rolling your eyes for good measure. Despite your awe of the place, you couldn’t hide your anger. So much had changed in what seemed like a short amount of time, so much that you were sure to gripe to Rauf about as soon as you saw him.
You walked down the corridor, not bothering to disguise the sound of your heavy footsteps. You were angry, and that meant all you wanted to do was stomp around; it was something that always annoyed Rauf when you were a child, something he would chastise you for again and again. But you didn’t care.
You barely knocked on the door before opening it up. The first thing you noticed was the fireplace behind him. It was illuminating the room, the smell of burning firewood immediately reminding you of sitting by the fire with your father and mother, listening to the stories they told of their early lives. But the memories were blinked away when Rauf’s eyes met yours, his joyful eyes ignoring the fury that lied beneath your own.
“Y/N, it’s so good to see you.” He smiled his warm smile, but you couldn’t be fooled. You focused on closing the door behind you to avoid his gaze. “So, whaddya think?”
You took a deep breath and turned away from the now-closed door, finally stepping forward and crossing your arms over your chest. “I think I’m pretty pissed off.”
“Aren’t you always?” You didn’t laugh with him. He noticed. “Sit,” he gestured to the chair in front of his desk. You only clenched your jaw in response.
“When were you going to tell me about the new guild?”
“You found it, didn’t you?”
You bit your tongue so hard you thought you tasted blood. After a second, you let in a sharp breath, “What about the new people?”
Rauf leaned back in his chair, stretching his arms over his head, “The word spread. More people wanted to join the fellowship.”
You only quirked a brow. Rauf let his arms fall, finally matching your mood with an exhausted expression. “I don’t know what you want me to say. We got more business.” He gestured to the pile of papers beside him. “You should be glad.”
“I’d be glad if I didn’t have to ask a merchant to tell me where my guild is.”
Rauf nodded, “That’s fair. I should have told you, somehow. But now you’re here.”
You bit your cheek, watching Rauf with squinted eyes. You were still pissed, but right now didn’t seem like a time to fight. He looked worn out still, and even though he should have made sure you knew about the guild, it was easy to forget when so much was changing.
You sighed and placed your arms on the back of the chair in front of Rauf’s desk, “After all this relocation I hope you still had time to see the payer of my assignment.”
“That I did,” Rauf nodded, his eyes moving to his desk as he searched for something.
You raised your brows when he didn’t say more, “And he cleared it?”
“Oh, no. No, the assignment was right.”
Your stomach dropped, “What?”
“The assignment was right. There was a tight timeframe, but it was right.”
“He told you that Jaskier was in Oxenfurt and got to Velen that night?”
Rauf dropped his hand to the table, finally meeting your eyes, “Why are you questioning this?”
You scoffed, “Because it doesn’t seem likely that—“
“He wasn’t in Oxenfurt, but near it. Just outside of it.” Rauf kept a stern gaze as you slammed your mouth shut. He was angry now, and his vexation made you push your weight off of the chair and back to a standing position. Could that be possible? Could the bard have been practically in two places at once? Something was still off, something was still wrong — it had to be.
You swallowed the lump in your throat as he continued, “Listen to me, Y/N. I checked the assignment for you, and I made sure it was right. The payer explained everything — and he wasn’t happy about it. But twelve murdered women is not a topic I would take lightly.”
You blinked, your voice barely above a whisper, “Raped.”
Rauf frowned, “What?”
“They were raped. The twelve women.”
“Of course.” He shook his head, bringing a palm over his face. “My mind is so crowded after the move. You’re right.”
You stiffened your back as you looked down at him. “I know I am.”
The silence in the room could be sliced with a dull knife. You watched the fire flicker behind him, unable to look him in the eye. After a few moments, he spoke, “You’re wary but determined. Just like your mother.” You frowned, and it was almost as if the breath was knocked out of you. You never thought Rauf would admit something like that before, that he would confide in you like he did when you were younger.
You watched as he stood from his chair and leaned both hands on the desk. He was thinking about something, maybe like you were thinking about your mother, about her smile, and her frown, and her tears, and her soft touch.
When you looked back at Rauf, he smiled softly. His own eyes were now soft with sincerity. “You can trust me, Y/N. Have I ever done you wrong before?”
You decided not to answer.
After a moment, he cleared his throat and rubbed his hands together, stepping out from behind the desk. “I would tell you to make yourself at home, but you’ve got a rapist to catch. You might want to hurry, though. I heard some of the other assassins talking about the assignment. And you know the rules.” Your stomach dropped again as he walked up to you and searched your face. You sensed his sadness, the distance that had sprouted between you since…you didn’t know when. But you kept your jaw set.
Rauf sighed, “I have to meet with one of the newer recruitments. I’ll let you see yourself out.” He placed a firm hand on your shoulder, squeezing gently before he opened the office door and left the room, closing it behind him.
Once his footsteps faded, you let out a deep sigh, closing your eyes to let your heart catch up with you. There was so much to think about, but only so much time. You wanted to trust that Rauf was thorough with the payer, but with everything moving so fast…you just couldn’t. Especially after his slip-up from before. Murder and rape were very different, and you had never heard Rauf mix something like that up. Right now, you could only for sure if you saw the payer for yourself, if you spoke with them on your own.
You swiftly walked up to Rauf’s desk, rounding to the other side so you could keep an eye on the door. Who knew how long it would take before one of the guards came looking for you, even though they knew you were close with Rauf. You looked down at the desk, where different papers were slightly scattered over the top. Rauf was a special kind of organized — where anyone else would see his desk as a complete mess, he saw a perfect stack.
You carefully flipped through the papers, looking for a familiar name. Julian. Julian. Julian. Julian. Julian—
“Julian,” you whispered, finally finding the name written in large letters. Now that you saw it, though, you couldn’t ignore the strange feeling that swirled in your stomach. You swallowed it down, instead scanning the parchment for the payer’s information.
Assignment given to: Y/N. To be completed. Some setbacks.
You passed your eyes over the words, looking up sporadically at the door across from you. You turned back to the page, licking your lips in anticipation.
And there is was, not too far down. Payer: Hotch. The name was familiar. You frowned, trying to rack your brain for a face, but there was no time. Instead, you trailed your finger across the page, where a location was printed in Rauf’s scrawled handwriting. You grabbed the quill off the desk and reached in your pouch for the instruction sheet the merchant gave you, flipping it over to write the location down as fast as possible.
Shoving the paper in your pocket and putting the parchments back in their messily organized state, you hurried to the door, breathing a sigh of relief as you noticed no one out there. But still, your heart plummeted against your ribs — Rauf mentioned the other assassins talking about your assignment, about Jaskier. You needed to get Jaskier, and find the payer, and finally clear this whole thing up. But if you didn’t get back soon, you might not get the chance.

Ooooo I wrote that ending so fast because I myself was feeling the thrill/tension lmao

How about Promptis go on their first ever date at an arcade or a fair and they're both nervous at first. They relax after a nice chat and some junk food and Noct notices a giant chocobo plush at a stall/prize counter and tries to win it for Prompto
nananasonatra: Noctis taking Prom on a summer carnival date. They both act like teenagers in love and at the end of the night they ride the Ferris wheel .Noctis bribes the operator to make them stop ontop .Sorry my heads fried in this heat lol
yes this is exactly what I need. You two have galaxy brains. So I will combine them: first date to the fair complete with shitty carnival games and a ferris wheel extravaganza
They are both very obnoxiously awkward. Prompto can’t stop talking even when he desperately wants to shut up. Noctis is having a hard time speaking at all. They went to the fair because hey, it’s in town! Surely that’s gotta be cheesy and fun. Thing is, both of them are too shy to admit that they love cheesy things (even tho they literally...are going on a date there. They’re doing their best). It’s the way there and the getting tickets where they’re still acting the nervous couple bit, but once they feel the adrenaline of a rollercoaster and stock up on junk food (a horrible choice before going on more rides), they start to loosen up and laugh off the nerves.
Also I can just...picture that scene. So vividly.
The sky was growing darker by the minute, which was only accentuated by the carnival lights dotting the view. Most of the rickety rides had been conquered, though not without a fair share of screaming on the couple’s part, so the tired boys decided to take a break for snacks before taking on the rest of the event.
Okay, maybe calling them “snacks” was a bit of an understatement. Two orders of fried oreos, an entire funnel cake, some wildly-oversized corndogs, and a large lemonade. They might have forgotten to grab dinner before the fair in their nervous endeavors, and nothing was healthy at the fair.
Sitting on that bench, laughing and munching on their food, any hint of awkwardness or fear was left behind in some gross seat of a rollercoaster car. Well and truly, this was a real date.
There was only a bit left of the funnel cake in the end. Prompto heaved a sigh, shoving the plate onto Noctis’ lap while his head flopped onto his shoulder. “You eat it,” he murmured.
Noctis pouted. “No, you.” The plate was passed back.
“Noooo, I’m so done, dude,” Prompto whined. “Just take one for the team.”
That earned a snort from Noctis. “What team? And why do we have to finish it?” he questioned.
Prompto paused, then sat up straight again. “I dunno. Feels wrong to just throw it away?” he reasoned. Especially considering that Noctis was the one who paid for all of it. He would feel bad, prince or not.
Noctis lightly bumped him with his shoulder. “It’s not that big of a deal. It’s the last thing we have, and I’d rather toss it than have either one of us get sick before our date is over.”
He couldn’t lie, Prompto’s stomach still erupted with butterflies at legitimately hearing Noctis say they were on a date. He’d been dreaming of this for so long that he’d chalked up his hopes to wishful thinking. But no, they were here, and they were having a good time. It was enough to make him grin. “Fine, fine. Throw it away, and we can walk around for a while before hitting something that could make us lose all that food we just ate,” he conceded.
“Right.”
The two of them hauled their trash to the nearest trash can, and Prompto had to laugh at just how much powdered sugar had attached itself to Noctis’ all-black clothing. “Y’know, I applaud your choices to start wearing white,” he teased, making Noctis look down at his shirt.
“Oh, come on,” Noctis grumbled.
Prompto ran his hands along the worst parts. “No worries, I got you.” It only took a few seconds more for him to note how low the powder had gotten. “Um...”
Noctis huffed a laugh, getting the rest off. “You’ve got some on you, too.”
“I do?” Prompto asked with a confused expression. “Could’ve sworn I dusted myself off, already. Where’s it at?” he rambled, hoping he didn’t look like a mess.
“Hm, right here.” Suddenly, Noctis’ hand was on his cheek, his warm lips pressed gently to Prompto’s in a kiss that lasted all of three seconds. Nonetheless, his cheeks were absolutely burning afterwards.
When they parted, it appeared that he wasn’t the only one. Noctis’ cheeks were dusted a soft shade of pink, though it was hard to see under the harsh lighting around them.
It took a moment for either of them to say anything. “Did...you get it off?”
Noctis’ lips turned up in a faint smile. “Think so.”
Now it was Prompto’s turn to smile. “Cool. Thanks. What would I do without you?” he joked.
“Dunno. Have powdered sugar all over your face?” Noctis returned teasingly.
“All over? You saying I’ve got more on me?”
Noctis hummed in thought, once again brushing his fingers along Prompto’s cheek. “Nope, got it all,” he confirmed.
An eye-roll from Prompto. “Dork. Let’s move away from the trash can, yeah?”
The two headed back into the bustle of the fair, hand in hand without Prompto even realizing they'd reached for each other. It made him giddy all over again.
Before long, they stopped. A long row of carnie games sprawled out before them, vendors shouting for patrons to step up and take their chances. Stuffed animals of all shapes and sizes were presented along every surface, and it was a safe bet to assume they’d been waiting to be claimed for far longer than necessary.
Prompto looked over to his date. “Got something in your sights?” he questioned.
That got Noctis tugging him towards a nearby stall. “Does a giant chocobo sound good? I’ll try to win it for you,” he stated, all the determination in the world lighting up his eyes. It was rare to see Noctis this enthusiastic about something. Gods, it was cute.
Still, Prompto couldn’t help the laugh that escaped him. The thing Noctis had pointed out was giant, which also meant that it was going to be near impossible to get. “I mean, it sounds great, Noct,” he started, leaning against Noctis’ shoulder. “But I’m not gonna get my hopes up.”
Noctis knocked his head against Prompto’s. “What, don’t believe in me?” he returned in mock-offense.
“Oh, c’mon, you know these things are rigged,” Prompto reasoned. “Plus, this is a shooting game. One, that’s even more rigged. Two, we should both know by now that I'm the better marksman out of the two of us."
His boasting earned him a scoff from Noctis. "While I might cave and admit that, it doesn't mean that I'm bad at it. Have a little faith," he requested, giving Prompto's hand a light squeeze. Without waiting for a response, he was off towards the unattainable holy grail of stuffed animals. Oh, to be the carnie that got to proctor this little event in history.
Watching with an air of amusement, Prompto leaned on his elbows over the counter. "Heya! What's the requirements for getting that Behemoth up there?" he asked, gesturing to the comically large bird in question.
The carnie's polished grin focused on him. "Well, buddy, it's fairly simple!" he chirped. "All you've gotta do is shoot at those little targets that are moving across the planks." He made a grand gesture towards the back wall, which sported plenty of painted wooden ducks with red and white targets on their sides meandering in a single file. "Each duckie has a different number on the back. Shoot as many as you can before the time runs out, and your score will be tallied afterwards. Get over fifty points, and the chocobo is all yours. But watch out! Some of the ducks are hiding negative numbers that will reduce your score. So, care to test your skills?"
His speech had sounded so trained and NPC-like, Prompto had to laugh. "No, not me. But this guy wants to give it a go." He tugged on Noctis' sleeve, a grin of pride bright on his face. Noctis, on the other hand, had lost some of that brazen confidence in his expression.
 It was always funny to watch people's eyes go wide. "O-Oh, Prince Noctis! Er, that is you, isn't it?"
"Nah, but I get that a lot," Noctis replied nonchalantly, rolling his shoulders in preparation. "Just a guy trying to win a chocobo for his boyfriend. Can I start?"
The man, seemingly recovered, nodded with his previous vigor. "Of course! Here is your weapon, good sir." After ducking down to grab one of the dingy guns from under the counter, he handed it over. "The timer starts when you first shoot."
Prompto cast a smirk at his boyfriend. "Let's see what you got, sharpshooter," he teased.
Noctis took aim. "Oh, hush. I'm doing this for you."
After a quick "Good luck!" from the man behind the counter, Noctis started the timer with a pop from the toy gun. One duck down, who knew how many more to go.
"Wohoo, got one!" Prompto exclaimed, beaming at a smug-looking Noctis. "Think you can keep it up?"
Still keeping his eyes on the targets, Noctis gave a little nod. "You bet I will. I've got someone to impress," he replied before knocking another off of the shelf.
Prompto snorted, slumping more over the counter. "You say that like you're on a date," he continued.
Another duck toppled. "And what if I am?"
That earned a dramatized gasp from Prompto. "Are you, now? Didn't know you had it in you to snatch a date. Always thought you were too shy." The mocking edge to his words were light, and he couldn't hide the slight giggling that followed. The next few shots hit the wall. He poked Noctis in the shoulder before wrapping an arm around his middle. "Trying to win him something?"
Noctis gave him a knowing glance. "I would be, if he wasn't doing stuff to distract me. Don't be disappointed when I can't get the prize for you," he warned, getting another target down.
Prompto leaned in to press a kiss to Noctis' cheek. "A good marksman should be able to work well under pressure." Still, deciding that he'd messed with him enough, Prompto let go and returned to being an encouraging spectator.
As the timer drew nearer to zero and the little duckies came crashing down, Prompto did have to admit that he was impressed. Especially considering the hindrance that was a rickety carnival gun, the sizeable amount of targets Noctis had managed to hit was most likely more than the average. Though he hadn't expected much of a reward from this mess, part of him was thinking he might be going home with a giant stuffed chocobo.
When the timer sounded, the carnie bounced back to life. "Aaalrighty, let's see how you did!" he said in his merry speech. He collected the last few fallen ducks, then laid them face up on the counter in front of them.
"Sweet, let's count 'em up!" Prompto was grinning as he began to turn over the targets. "Noct, count with me. This one's five," he stated, "and then eight, and…damn, negative six." Oh well, there were plenty more to bring the score up.
Noctis continued flipping over the next few. "Hey, got a fifteen," he boasted, shoving it over to the counted pile.
"Aw, so proud."
The scores varied for the rest of the ducks, some on the smaller or negative sides, presumably to keep the prizes from all being taken. Still, Noctis had gotten a few of the higher numbered ones. With one left to check, he had reached a whopping forty-five. Prompto was tingling with excitement; that chocobo was as good as won.
The last one stared them down with its chipped paint and bright, ducky smile. "You want to do the last one?" Noctis offered.
With a nod and bated breath, Prompto turned over the last one to add the number….
"Negative twenty?" he cried. "Why is that even in here!" Noctis groaned as well, and the two boys slumped against each other in defeat.
The man behind the counter drew up an apologetic smile. "Sorry, fellas, luck of the duck. But you still get to choose from one of the smaller prizes!"
He gestured to the side wall that sported the rest of this booth's treasures. They were way smaller than the grand prizes, more hug-to-your-chest size, but they were still something.
Noctis nudged Prompto's shoulder. "Go ahead and pick one."
"Mh-hm." Prompto's eyes flitted over the options: stuffed dogs and coeurls, moogles, various fruits for some reason, and a mini version of that giant chocobo above their heads. "Not to be predictable, but I do want the chocobo," he decided. So what if he consistently chose them? They were his favorites!
As it was being retrieved, Prompto turned to Noctis with a bright smile. "By the way, good job, dude."
Noctis shrugged, a light mix of embarrassment and pride in his face. "I would've won if it had just been about knocking them over," he reasoned.
Prompto chuckled. "Sure would've. They weren't ready for you," he teased.
"Here you are, sir." Holding it in his hands, Prompto decided that this was officially the best first date ever. How cool was it that his boyfriend won him something at a shitty carnival game?
They ventured back into the crowds, a bit dissuaded from trying any of the other booths for now. The chocobo plush was held securely with one arm while his other hand held fast to Noctis'. Now there was just the matter of deciding what else to do before calling it a night.
"Got any ideas what to do next?" Prompto questioned.
Noctis pursed his lips, doing a quick glance around. "Well, I think we already went on all of the rollercoasters, and you're not putting me back on that drop thing," he said definitively.
That drew a laugh from Prompto. "I half expected you to warp right off of that thing, by the way," he commented. "But fine, something else. How about…." He trailed off, rubbing his thumb along Noctis' hand. "Oh! We haven't done the ferris wheel yet."
What other way was there to end a night at the fair than being sappy while overlooking part of the city from the top of a rickety ferris wheel? Prompto hoped he wasn't coming across as too sappy, though; it was embarrassing, but he really did enjoy those dumb romantic fantasies. Even after being asked out, he was still worried that Noctis might laugh at him for wanting to do cheesy romantic things. Noctis just didn't seem like the type to enjoy that. He knew he was probably being ridiculous, but that didn't dispel the doubt in the back of his mind.
Thankfully, Noctis gave a casual shrug and nodded. "Sounds good to me. We can hit the ferris wheel and then head out for the night," he said.
Relief flooded back into Prompto's lungs, and before long, they were speeding up towards bright lights of the their last ride. Giggling, the two kept it up until they were running and dodging people in the crowd to get there first. Nevermind that they were still holding hands.
The pair stumbled to a breathless halt at the entrance gates, turning to each other with a full-out laugh. Prompto still had his chocobo clasped tightly between his arm and chest.
"After you," Noctis said, finally letting go of his hand to gesture to the open gate.
Prompto landed a playful punch to Noctis' shoulder as he walked past. "Really acting like a prince today, huh?"
"What, I don't normally?"
"Gonna have to give a no to that one, bud."
"Rude."
The worker got them situated in the seat, Prompto first. Noctis lagged behind slightly, turning to the lady in charge before climbing in next to his boyfriend.
Once they were snugly hip to hip, Noctis sighed. "How old do you think this ride even is?" he asked.
Prompto looked up. "Proooobably pretty old," he reasoned. "But I'm sure it's fine. They have, like, inspections and stuff, right?"
Noctis huffed a little laugh. "Hope so. If something does happen, I'll just grab you and warp off of this thing."
"My hero," Prompto teased. Though, as they began their ascent up and around the ferris wheel, the idea that it might break down did start to creep into his mind. A jarring bump halfway there didn't help one bit.
He pressed closer to Noctis' side just as he did the same. Prompto took a deep breath and closed his eyes, letting the feeling of being close to him soothe him. The warmth they shared was a nice defense against the cold winds, too.
A tiny smile formed on his face when he felt Noctis nuzzle slightly into his hair. "Sorry I couldn't get you the giant chocobo," he heard him murmur.
Prompto gave a slight shake of his head. "Nah, don't worry about it. This one's just as cute. And it's travel sized." He gave the toy a squeeze. Honestly, he was thrilled to have a gift from him in the first place. It was a silly little thing, but it made his heart swell in a way he thought he'd never feel.
As they completed the first rotation of the wheel, Prompto decided to look around more at the fair below. By now the sky was completely dark, making the colorful lights shine brighter. Laughter and shrieks of children reached even where they were up high. He even saw someone drop their cotton candy in a puddle, which he pointed out to Noctis so they could both grimace at the sight.
All of a sudden, they were stuttered to a halt at the top of the wheel. Prompto swung his leg a bit and laughed. "Welp, looks like we're up here forever," he joked.
Noctis snorted. "We'd better not be. I'm not sleeping on a ferris wheel."
"That's your problem with it?" Prompto laughed, making the seat sway slightly.
"There's other issues with living on a ferris wheel for the rest of my life. That one just came to mind first," Noctis said in his defense.
Prompto's laughter continued while he squeezed the stuffed chocobo to keep from dropping it. "Yeah, okay. Sleep is always your first thought."
"Don't judge."
"Wouldn't dream of it."
Being stuck at the top really wasn't so bad. They could see everything, and it was just the two of them, despite there being hundreds of people around. It was as if they'd been brought up just to be alone for a few minutes.
A hand rested atop his thigh, and Prompto turned to face his date. And gods, did he look so good with the lights of the city behind him. Noctis' dark hair made him a silhouette, though his features were close enough to make out. His cool gray eyes had a soft shine to them, and he was looking at Prompto in a way that stole his breath. He had to be the luckiest guy in Eos right now.
Noctis quirked a small smile. "Is it…too cheesy if I ask for a kiss right now?"
Prompto paused, then cracked a smile as well. "Very cheesy. Do it," he replied.
"Then can I kiss you at the top of the ferris wheel?"
Without speaking, Prompto slid a hand along the side of Noctis' neck and pulled him in. His lips were tinged with slight cold, but they felt soft as they touched Prompto's. And just like that, they were sharing one of those dumb movie kisses on their first date at the fair. The thought made Prompto's smile grow as he leaned in more.
Once they pulled away, there were a few moments of silence between them. Then the ride began to move again, starting through one more loop before they would be let off.
Prompto couldn't hold back another little laugh. "Good way to end that?"
"Definitely," Noctis said, looking equally relieved and happy. "Now we can't say anything else for the rest of the time so we don't ruin it."
That earned a shoulder punch from Prompto. "Oh, shut up."
"See, like that."
Prompto grinned, taking Noctis' hand in his. "Too bad you're stuck with me, then," he retorted.
Noctis smiled back. "What a shame."

And The Award Goes To...
Tumblr media
After seeing this suit AND this walk, I had to come up with something lol
Pairing: Chris Evans x Black Reader
Warnings: None
“Well thank you for speaking with us and good luck tonight!,” the interviewer, Zuri, smiled, opening her arms to give you a hug which you gladly accepted.
The way your nerves were right about now, you felt like you could use a million of them and would take one from anyone offering.
Being escorted down the red carpet, your emerald green, satin dress seemed to reflect the sun rays the way it shined with every step you took in your gold, strappy stilettos. With simple spaghetti straps and a v-neck, the material clung to you from your chest to mid thigh where the left side split open down to just above your polished toes to show your leg, equally shining thanks to Rihanna’s Fenty Body Lava and you’re hydrated melanin. Photographers call out for you to stop for pictures as the sounds of cameras clicking and flashing lights seem to come in waves.
“I don’t think I’d ever get used to this,” your best friend, Hazel, whispers to you as you both pose for a few pictures.
“I’m not used to it either, this is just my first award show,” you answer as you resume your walk down the remainder of the carpet to the inside of the building.
“First of many though! Trust me, you just getting started girl.”
Being called the breakout star of the summer, you hoped that more roles and invitations to award shows were to come. Ever since you were young, you always dreamed of accepting an Oscar or a Golden Globe, and yes even practiced your speech in front of your parents, which they of course recorded and tended to bring out whenever they wanted to reminisce on your childhood.
In all honesty though, yea the accolades were amazing and you wanted them, but if they didn’t come you’d still be ok. You loved acting and to be able to do what you loved every day was all that mattered.
Waiting for everything to start, you sat at your table talking with your director and a couple of your other cast mates, as well as took selfies with Hazel. Looking at the picture, you see a blurry, yet familiar figure in the background prompting you to turn around to see if you were truly correct in your thinking.
Sure enough, you were and began quietly freaking out.
In what looked to be a chocolate brown, velvet suit with a white button down shirt and black bow tie, there stood Chris Evans looking as amazing as ever and currently walking pass your table to get to his. You never though you’d be hypnotized by a walk, but here you were openly gawking and wishing his table was across the room so he’d have to do the movement a bit longer.
“Dang Cap, bring that walk this way,” Hazel speaks, pulling out her phone to record him walking away.
“Put your phone down creeper,” you laugh lightly smacking her arm.
“Takes one to know one Miss let me openly stare at my celebrity crush and his booty.”
———
“Looks like your award is next!” Hazel softly squeals lightly shaking your arm. “I wonder who’s presenting for it?”
As if hearing her question, the announcer introduces Chris as he walks out smiling with card in hand.
“Whoaa that’s crazy!! You could receive your award from THE Chris Evans!,” she gasps. You managed to keep it together as the camera panned to you, softly smiling and being gently nudged by your director making you giggle.
On the inside though, you were a nervous wreck. You were already worried about falling if you had to walk to the stage, but now you had to worry about literally falling in front of Chris and never being able to show your face again due to embarrassment.
“And the winner for best actress in a comedic performance is...Y/F/N Y/L/N!,” he reveals causing everyone to applaud and your table to go crazy. Quickly hugging the rest of your friends seated next to you, you slightly lift the un-split side of your dress so it won’t potentially get caught on your heels as you walk.
“Welp here we go,” you thought to yourself, making your way up the stairs. Being the gentleman that he was, Chris met you halfway up the steps offering his hand to help you the rest of the way.
“Congratulations!,” he sweetly whispers handing you the figurine, which surprisingly had a good amount of weight to it.
“I’m really gonna try not to cry right now but chances are I will so I apologize in advanced for that,” you start, causing a small amount of soft laughs to erupt in the room.
“First off, I want to thank God because he blessed me with this opportunity, and I want to thank my parents who sadly aren’t here because of the flu but I know y’all are watching and I love you!”
“I also want to thank my friends both old and new, my director James, the cast and crew, and everyone else in my life that’s supported me and helped me in any way whether small or large. Ok I’m gonna go backstage now and cry and hope you all have a good night!,” you finish with a small wave as you turn away from the mic, applause behind you as you make your way off the stage followed by Chris.
“That was a really nice speech,” he says, now beside you.
“Really? Thanks! I feel like I sounded like a rambling mess.”
“You might’ve felt that way, but I assure you, that’s not how it sounded,” he replies.
“Y/N! Congrats on the award! We need you to come this way for another short interview with the press,” a tall, slender man with glasses interrupts smiling as bright as the camera flashes coming from the room where the interview was to take place.
“Well I um guess I’ll see you later. Congrats again!,” Chris smiles.
“Thanks and yea see you later!,” you reply smiling as he walks away to return to his seat.
“Yep this definitely will take some getting used to,” you thought, walking into what felt like a sea of cameras and questions.
———
“Tonight has been surreal!! Just being here in midst of everything, you winning, AND getting said award from Chris Evans!!! If I were you I’d be dead right now,” Hazel says grabbing a glass of champagne off one of the trays being carried by servers.
“I know!! I feel like none of this is real and I’m gonna wake up any moment.”
“Well it is real and I’ll even pinch you to show you if needed. Or better yet we can get your new bestie Mr. Evans to do it.”
“He is not my new bestie, and I definitely would not ask him or anyone to pinch me,” you laugh sipping from your glass.
“Whoa pinching? What kind of party is this?,” you hear from behind you causing both you and Hazel to choke on your drinks.
You from utter shock and disbelief he heard that, and her from laughing at your reaction.
“Chris! Hi! Um sorry about that I-,”
“You don’t have to apologize, it’s ok. Also if you did ask me, that’d certainly be a first,” he laughs.
“Um Chris this is my best friend Hazel,” you introduce as the two shake hands.
“Nice to meet you Hazel. And this is my brother Scott, Scott this is Hazel and Y/N,” he responds to which Scott shakes both of your hands and congratulates you on your award. “The answer is probably obvious, but how’s your night?”
“Amazing! I don’t want this night to end!,” Hazel excitedly answers causing you all to laugh.
“I agree it’s amazing, but I don’t think everything’s set in yet. And this probably will sound weird but I feel like Cinderella and as soon as the clock strikes 12, I go back to normal.”
“No it’s not weird at all, like you said everything is kinda unbelievable and it’s still a bit shocking. I totally understand,” Chris lightly nods before drinking from the beer bottle in his hand. “Also can I add that I love that movie.”
“Same! She’s not my favorite princess though, but I still love the movie.”
“Who’s your favorite then?,” he asks, leaning on the table with his elbow.
“I have two. Overall, it’s Tiana but for the songs it’s Ariel,” you answer.
“Can you believe? 2 grown adults going on about Disney movies like kids,” Scott whispers to Hazel, to which she nods agreeing with him.
“You should see her on the weekends. When she’s bored, she watches videos about all the rides, parades, and stuff in all the Disney parks,” she adds, lightly laughing along with Scott at you and Chris’ excited expressions as you guys continue on with your conversation.
“Hey you thinking what I’m thinking?”
“That we head to the bar and let the Disney fanatics enjoy their time together?,” Hazel answers as Scott links his arm with hers.
“Exactly!”
“I have the feeling this is the start of a beautiful friendship,” she smiles holding up her glass as he clinks his with hers.
“And hopefully a beautiful relationship between those two,” he adds as they reach the bar.
“Wait? How did you know Y/N likes Chris?”
“She does?! I didn’t know at all, Chris kept talking about her at our table during the show and when we saw you guys here I suggested he go talk to her.”
“If they end up getting married, I’m expecting a shout out for the both of us for getting them together,” Hazel replies making Scott laugh as they cheers once again.
———
“So Y/N, the people need to know, how was your conversation with America’s golden boy?!,” Hazel asks joining you on the couch, plate full of waffles, eggs, and fruit in one hand as she holds out her fork pretending it’s a mic to your face.
“Girl you need to relax!,” you laugh lightly pushing her fork away. “But it was good, I mean he’s super friendly and we like a lot of the same things.”
“Yea Scott and I heard a bit of your conversation and let me say if there was a couples Disney jeopardy game, you guys would more than likely win.”
“Hey don’t judge us, it’s not our fault that’s something we like,” you laugh. “He said how he goes to Disneyland pretty much every year and said that I should come along-,”
“Umm say what now?!?! He invited you to Disneyland?!?!!!!,” she interrupts after momentarily choking on a piece of egg.
“I wouldn’t call it an invitation really. It’s like when you’re talking to someone about a nail place you go to and say how they should try it out sometime. Plus it was after I said I hadn’t gone since I was a teenager.”
“Either way you got invited by a guy who’s interested in you to Disneyland, which is a dream date of yours!!”
“Just because he was nice to me doesn’t mean he’s interested Hazel,” you reply taking a bite out of your omelette.
“Well let’s just say an EXTREMELY close source, aka his brother, confirmed that Mr. Evans was definitely into you and checking you out the whole award show,” she squealed.
Now was your turn to choke on your food.
“Really?,” you ask pulling yourself together. “He didn’t try to get my number or anything though so maybe it was just a ‘she’s pretty’ type like versus an ‘I really want to get to know her’ like.”
“I don’t think so, but we’ll see. Even still though he definitely invited you to Disney and you better take him up on that offer or I’ll smack you then go in your place!,” Hazel adds, picking up your now empty plates to put them in the sink.
“Noted,” you laugh now looking at the messages on my our phone. Of course there were the usual ‘congratulations!’ from family members, your team, and your other co stars who were unable to come to the show.
Although he was there, your director even messaged you telling you congratulations again on your award followed by one of the sweetest message you’d ever recieved saying how much he appreciated you on set and that you were surely about to change the acting game.
Y/N: Aww James, I was trying not to cry today lol!!! ❤️😭😭 that was so sweet and I thank you so much for giving me this chance that has surely changed my life forever!
😎Bond, James Bond🎥: You’re so welcome love and deserve it😘! Also I have some news...
Y/N: Ohh another project you want me to be in?? Wait I don’t have to give the award back do I👀?
😎 Bond, James Bond🎥: Lmao no not yet and no it’s yours🤣🤣. The news is a certain someone who you were talking to ALL night asked me for your number and I wanted to ask you first before I gave it out just to be sure
Y/N: 😳😳😳🤯
😎Bond, James Bond🎥: Mhmm 😏😏
Y/N: Lol yea it’s fine you can give it to him
😎Bond, James Bond🎥: Done! Have fun you two 😉😂!
You expected that he was probably busy and you’d more than likely hear from him later. However the running theme of your life recently seemed to be how nothing turned out how you expected.
???: Hey Y/N! It’s Chris
???: That is Chris from last night, in case you know another Chris lol
“Oh my gosh he’s such an adorable dork!,” Hazel gushes from over your shoulder, making you jump.
“Can I have some space ma’am?!”
“Oh sorry,” she innocently smiles going towards her bedroom. “If you need me, just call!”
Shaking your head as she exits, you turn your attention back to the screen in your hands and hoping that you don’t make a fool of yourself.
Y/N: Hey😊! And can honestly say I don’t know any other Chris’ lol
Chris: Lol ok good. I mean not that other Chris’ are bad or anything. Looking back at it, I should’ve just left it at “Chris from last night” my bad 🤦🏼‍♂️
Y/N: 🤣🤣 it’s ok. Exactly how many drinks did you have last night?
Chris:😶....lets just say I’m not totally hungover, but my head is hurting a bit 😂
Hearing you laugh to yourself from downstairs, Hazel contently sighs before turning on her laptop as she plops down on her bed.
“Yep, I can hear the wedding bells and thank you speech now,” she speaks to herself as she smiles.
A/N: So this turned out longer than I expected and not gonna lie, kinda didn’t know where I wanted to go with it by the time I got in the middle of it😓 lol but hopefully you guys like it!
