Music Monday - This one puts a smile on my face every time.
This one takes maybe some explaining.
Okay, so I was trying to get something with cowbell, which Suno takes as meaning "country" apparently, despite that not being the intent.
Moreover, this wasn't meant to be a full song, I was doing tests to see which ASCII symbols produced notes, which is a way to control (to a degree) the non-lyrical content of suno gens. In this case I tested this:
˜ ¸ ˜˜ ˜ ˜ ¸ ˜˜˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ „ ˜ ‘ º „ ˜ ‘˜ • ¸ ˜ ˜˜ • ¸ ˜˜ ‘ ˜º „ º ‚¸ ·· ˜ ‚„·· ˜ ¸ ˜˜ ˜ ˜ ¸ ˜˜˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ „ ˜ ‘ º „ ˜ ‘˜ • ¸ ˜ ˜˜ • ¸ ˜˜ ‘ ˜º „ º ‚¸ ·· °¶ ¯ ˜ ‘ º˜º ˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜¯ ¯ ˜ ‘ º˜º ˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜¯ ‡ ~ ˜ ‚„·· ˜ ¸ ˜˜ ˜ ˜ ¸ ˜˜˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ „ ˜ ‘ º „ ˜ ‘˜ • ¸ ˜ ˜˜ • ¸ ˜˜ ‘ ˜º „ º ‚¸ ·· ˜ ‚„·· ˜ ¸ ˜˜ ˜ ˜ ¸ ˜˜˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ „ ˜ ‘ º „ ˜ ‘˜ • ¸ ˜ ˜˜ • ¸ ˜˜ ‘ ˜º „ º ‚¸ ·· ° ¯ ˜ ‘ º˜º ˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜¯ ¯ ˜ ‘ º˜º ˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜¯ - ~ ˜ ‚„·· ˜ ¸ ˜˜ ˜ ˜ ¸ ˜˜˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ „ ˜ ‘ º „ ˜ ‘˜ • ¸ ˜ ˜˜ • ¸ ˜˜ ‘ ˜º „ º ‚¸ ·· ˜ ‚„·· ˜ ¸ ˜˜ ˜ ˜ ¸ ˜˜˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ „ ˜ ‘ º „ ˜ ‘˜ • ¸ ˜ ˜˜ • ¸ ˜˜ ‘ ˜º „ º ‚¸ ·· ° ¯ ˜ ‘ º˜º ˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜¯ ¯ ˜ ‘ º˜º ˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜¯ ~ " ~ ˜ ‚„·· ˜ ¸ ˜˜ ˜ ˜ ¸ ˜˜˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ „ ˜ ‘ º „ ˜ ‘˜ • ¸ ˜ ˜˜ • ¸ ˜˜ ‘ ˜º „ º ‚¸ ·· ˜ ‚„·· ˜ ¸ ˜˜ ˜ ˜ ¸ ˜˜˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ „ ˜ ‘ º „ ˜ ‘˜ • ¸ ˜ ˜˜ • ¸ ˜˜ ‘ ˜º „ º ‚¸ ·· ° ¯ ˜ ‘ º˜º ˜ ‘ ˜˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜˜ ˜ ‘ ˜ ˜ ˜
And some part of that was read, when combined with country as "huk-a-ruk, buck-a-roo" and similar such sounds. For reasons difficult to explain, the song makes me laugh pretty much every time.
This is probably partially because of the faux emotion the simulated voice puts behind utterly nonsensical sounds, and partially because I imagine the song being sung by a band of capybaras in cowboy hats.

How to actually get over a breakup💗
Breakups suck. There’s no sugarcoating it. One minute you’re planning a future with someone, and the next, you’re lying in bed questioning everything — yourself, your worth, even your playlist because damn, every song suddenly hits different. If your like me you probably hear them in every song, see them in every movie and everything reminds you of them and its so horrible , thats why im making a guide💕 Here are the things i wish i knew , i wish i did and out of my own experience :
1. Feel It. Really Feel It.
Don’t try to be strong all the time. If you need to cry, cry. Ugly cry. Scream into your pillow. Write them a letter and burn it. Listen to songs that wreck you. Breakups hurt, and pretending they don’t will just drag it out longer. You’re allowed to fall apart. This isn’t weakness — it’s healing.
(and if you pretend , its going to come crashing down slowly , you'll lose yourself faster then you think)
2. Lose Yourself a Bit (Safely).
Some days, you’ll feel like doing nothing but watching the same show on repeat or going out just to forget everything. That’s okay. Go out. Stay in. Cut your hair. Get drunk with your best friend and rant about how they never deserved you. Order takeout three nights in a row. You’re allowed to be a little reckless while you process — just try not to do anything you’ll hate yourself for later.
3. Talk About It Until You’re Sick of It.
Vent. Over and over. To your friends, your journal, your dog — whoever. Repeating the story helps your brain process it. Don’t worry about sounding dramatic or “annoying.” The people who love you will understand. And the more you talk about it, the more it loses its power.
4. Cut Contact — Even If You Don’t Want To.
Block them if you have to. Not to be petty, but to protect your peace. Don’t stalk their socials. Don’t “accidentally” run into them. It’s like ripping off a Band-Aid — horrible for a second, but way better than dragging out the pain.
Remember , A wound wont heal if you touch it. What the eyes don't see doesn't hurt the heart. so if you dont wanna delete it , put it in a secret folder , but just make sure you dont see them.
5. Do Dumb Sh*t That Makes You Smile.
Buy yourself something stupid. Make a meme about your ex. Flirt with someone you have no intention of texting back. Try a hobby you suck at. Laugh. Not because you’re over it yet, but because laughing reminds you that you can feel joy again — even in the middle of this mess.
Keep yourself busy to not think of it.
6. Remember Who the Hell You Are.
They didn’t make you whole. You were already a whole person , with your own feelings , your own emotions , your own thoughts. This sucks, yes. But it’s not the end. You are not broken even if you feel like it. You’re just going through something hard. You’re gonna heal. Not overnight. Not all at once. But little by little, day by day.
7. One Last Thing: There’s No Right Way.
Your healing won’t look like anyone else’s. Don’t let anyone rush you or shame you for how you’re dealing with it. It’s okay to feel fine one day and wrecked the next. You’re allowed to miss them and still know it’s over. You’re allowed to still love them and still choose yourself.
If it keeps you alive, do it.

how to build a digital music collection and stuff
spotify sucks aaaass. so start downloading shit!!
file format glossary
.wav is highest quality and biggest
.mp3 is very small, but uses lossy compression which means it's lower quality
.flac is smaller than .wav, but uses lossless compression so it's high quality
.m4a is an audio file format that apple uses. that's all i really know
downloading the music
doubledouble.top is a life saver. you can download from a variety of services including but not limited to apple music, spotify, soundcloud, tidal, deezer, etc.
i'd recommend ripping your music from tidal or apple music since they're the best quality (i think apple music gives you lossless audio anyway. .m4a can be both lossy and lossless, but from the text on doubledouble i assume they're ripping HQ files off apple music)
i also love love love cobalt.tools for ripping audio/video from youtube (they support a lot of other platforms too!)
of course, many artists have their music on bandcamp — purchase or download directly from them if you can. bandcamp offers a variety of file formats for download
file conversion
if you're downloading from apple music with doubledouble, it spits out an .m4a file.
.m4a is ok for some people but if you prefer .flac, you may wanna convert it. ffmpeg is a CLI (terminal) tool to help with media conversion
if you're on linux or macOS, you can use parameter expansion to batch convert all files in a folder. put the files in one place first, then with your terminal, cd into the directory and run:
for i in *.m4a; do ffmpeg -i "$i" "${i%.*}.flac"; done
this converts from .m4a to .flac — change the file extensions if needed.
soulseek
another way to get music is through soulseek. soulseek is a peer-to-peer file sharing network which is mainly used for music. nicotine+ is a pretty intuitive (and open-source) client if you don't like the official one.
you can probably find a better tutorial on soulseek somewhere else. just wanted to make this option known
it's bad etiquette to download from people without sharing files of your own, so make sure you've got something shared. also try to avoid queuing up more than 1-2 albums from one person in a row
tagging & organizing your music
tagging: adding metadata to a music file (eg. song name, artist name, album) that music players can recognize and display
if you've ripped music from a streaming platform, chances are it's already tagged. i've gotten files with slightly incorrect tags from doubledouble though, so if you care about that then you might wanna look into it
i use musicbrainz picard for my tagging. they've got pretty extensive documentation, which will probably be more useful than me
basically, you can look up album data from an online database into the program, and then match each track with its file. the program will tag each file correctly for you (there's also options for renaming the file according to a certain structure if you're into that!)
there's also beets, which is a CLI tool for... a lot of music collection management stuff. i haven't really used it myself, but if you feel up to it then they've got extensive documentation too. for most people, though, it's not really a necessity
how you wanna organize your music is completely up to you. my preferred filestructure is:
artist > album > track # track
Tumblr media
using a music player
the options for this are pretty expansive. commonly used players i see include VLC, foobar2000, clementine (or a fork of it called strawberry), and cmus (for the terminal)
you can also totally use iTunes or something. i don't know what audio players other systems come with
i personally use dopamine. it's a little bit slow, but it's got a nice UI and is themeable plus has last.fm support (!!!)
don't let the github page fool you, you don't have to build from source. you can find the releases here
click the "assets" dropdown on the most recent release, and download whichever one is compatible with your OS
syncing
if you're fine with your files just being on one device (perhaps your computer, but perhaps also an USB drive or an mp3 player), you don't have to do this
you can sync with something like google drive, but i hate google more than i hate spotify
you can get a free nextcloud account from one of their providers with 2GB of free storage. you can use webDAV to access your files from an app on your phone or other device (documents by readdle has webDAV support, which is what i use)
disroot and blahaj.land are a couple providers i know that offer other services as well as nextcloud (so you get more with your account), but accounts are manually approved. do give them a look though!!
if you're tech-savvy and have an unused machine lying around, look into self-hosting your own nextcloud, or better yet, your own media server. i've heard that navidrome is a pretty good audio server. i unfortunately don't have experience with self-hosting at the moment so i have like zero advice to give here. yunohost seems to be a really easy way to manage a server
afterword
i don't know if any of this is helpful, but i just wanted to consolidate my personal advice in one place. fuck big tech. own your media, they could take it away from you at any moment

Hey val! just wanted to say collide is genuinely incredible. genuinely one of the best pieces of writing i’ve ever read, not exaggerating. I’ve been seeing you absolutely burning ellie to shreds and it made me wonder, what’s popstar!reader’s backstory? read she came from the voice but is there more to her pre-ellie life? she seems so layered and complex on her own, and i’d love to know how she got to where she is now. any lore you can share??
omg first of all—thank you so much for this, seriously. it means the world that you’re even asking about reader’s backstory. i’ve spent just as much time building her as i did ellie, and i love that she’s getting some of the spotlight too!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
popstar!reader’s backstory is a little quieter than ellie’s, but it’s just as important.
she was just a normal girl, honestly. small town, two parents, one younger sibling. soft-spoken, always lost in her own little world—writing lyrics on her forearm in pen and humming melodies while unloading the dishwasher.
her parents were sweet but practical, the kind of people who clapped at school recitals and told her to make sure her dreams had health insurance. supportive in that detached, surface-level, “good for you, honey” way.
she taught herself how to sing, how to play guitar, and later piano—mostly in secret. lessons felt like too much of an ask. her family wasn’t struggling, but money was always discussed with that careful tone, like even wanting something made you selfish. so she figured it out alone. saved up for her first guitar by babysitting, bought a secondhand keyboard off Facebook Marketplace, and sang quietly into her pillow late at night so no one would hear.
she taught herself how to produce on GarageBand when she was fourteen, recording rough demos on an old laptop that overheated if she used too many vocal layers.
she'd mimic runs from old YouTube covers, learn chords from blurry tutorial videos, and practice until her fingers went numb. there were nights her voice would crack and she'd cry out of frustration, but she always came back to it. because no matter how hard it was—music made her feel like someone.
she wasn’t popular. not disliked, just… overlooked. you’d find her sitting in the back of the bus, hoodie up, scribbling verses in the margins of her homework. she barely even spoke in class, but when she sang? people shut up and listened. she just didn’t let them very often. the want was always there, but the fear was just as loud.
and then came 10th grade. her first real heartbreak. a girl from her English class—older, confident, the kind of girl who knew the effect she had on people. reader fell hard. it was messy, unrequited, and when the girl said “i’m not into girls like that” with a casual shrug? it destroyed her. she wrote ten songs that month. none of them were happy. she posted one of them on SoundCloud under a fake name. it got 43 listens. she made it her phone wallpaper.
no one thought she’d actually do anything with music. her teachers told her to “focus more on the sciences,” and her guidance counselor literally said, “sweetheart, music is a lovely hobby, but not a career.”
no one ever really believed she’d make it.
and honestly? most of the time, neither did she.
but something clicked her senior year. she was tired of being scared. tired of hiding. so she said fuck it—and auditioned for The Voice with one of her own songs without even asking her mom about it.
the rest happened fast. all four judges turned. her clip exploded online—TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, everywhere. people were calling her “the girl with the pain in her voice”. and yeah, she won. of course she did. got signed to a label before she even had time to process it.
her debut album was a glittery, razor-sharp pop masterpiece. dramatic, vulnerable, unapologetically girly. every song sounded like crying in the back of a club bathroom and screaming in your car on the way home. girls memorized the lyrics. gays dissected the bridges. critics tried to play it cool but couldn’t help calling it a cultural reset.
but through all the fame, reader stayed pretty much the same. she never really leaned into the chaos of it all. she wasn’t into parties. barely drank. never touched drugs. she didn’t care about being seen—she cared about being good. her team would throw her into red carpets and she’d sneak out early to finish demos in her penthouse. at one event, she literally left mid-party to go sit in the parking lot and hum a harmonie she couldn't get out of her head into her voice notes.
she barely dated. not because she didn’t want to—but because she didn’t have time. she never let herself have time. the industry was demanding, to say the least. she had something to prove. to everyone who doubted her. to herself.
she built herself from the ground up. no shortcuts, no handouts, no famous parents or flashy connections. just talent. obsession. the belief that maybe—maybe—her voice mattered. and a little bit of spite.
she gave everything to her career. and she became a star.
and then came ellie. and for the first time… she stopped thinking about the next song. because suddenly, someone made her want to stay in the moment. and god, that scared her.

are u willing to share/make/or link a guide on how u go about making these solos?
Tumblr media
I typed out an entire reply and it failed this is so irritating I hope I die. Due to this my reply will be somewhat less in-depth this time. I am also not going to be doing a step by step guide; I don’t want to misuse terminology or claim I know that much about the technology and filetypes involved.
I don’t know if this can be done at all on iOS, and if it can it’s likely difficult. But if you have an android or something of the sort you’re in luck; you can use a USB cable to access all of your apps’ data via your computer and a usb cable (almost everyone has one, it comes with your charger, usually separate from the base.) including Ensemble Stars. After entering your data and accessing its files, you’ll be able to find a folder labeled “jp.co.happyelements.boysm”, and from there you go to files, data, audio, songs — and within the songs’ folders, you’ll find the “characters” folder. They’re all titled with different numbers and they are not in the order you’d expect (as in, the usual lineup from starpro to the senseis/4piece.) the instrumentals are in a separate one. They’re all formatted as .awb and .acb files; if I’m not mistaken one is the actual audio and the other is the data for them. It’s the format most games if not all use, and you’ll have to convert them, for which there are many tutorials online that explain it better than I do, and you need two separate programs to extract the files and decode them into a playable format, such as .wav, since the original format cannot simply be played like that on your computer or any device, really.
Each songs’ vocals are separate into two, main and background. The instrumentals, as I mentioned, are also separate. You’ll have to put them together regardless of if you want the instrumentals or not, and the program I use is audacity (I know what you’re thinking. Not ideal. But she works.)
ESBU is a kind person who even takes specific requests to make different versions and such. Uploads from a long time ago (a year or two) such as the nikirin duet and the Tsumugi solos were possible thanks to them and what they provide. I obtained half of the new years solos from separate unrelated sources and the other half from them, as well. They used to upload on soundcloud, but ever since the ban and heightening of copyright and protection over their songs, they stick to twitter. I’d rather you guys not give that poor individual too much work.
Ensemblesongs lives to provide, having all of the raw files in my hands … sometimes I wish to gatekeep things from others so I’ll be needed more (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`) this blog gives me something to do as well a sense of purpose, but that’s childish of me to do, so there you have it. It is also 4 am. I hope this helped, somehow ♪

i whipped up the album cover in like 10 minutes. the program i use cut off the watermark so the official cover will be under the cut
this is not the first song i have made i was previously a hyperpop artist for about 2 years, but since then ive lost all sense of rhythm and have turned to making shitty remixes of songs i like.
Tumblr media
i guess this is some kind of electronic gabber shitcore type music. i dont know i just downloaded a free app on my phone and started doing shit. the original song is hoodie by hey violet. the only song ever btw
if you enjoy this i could make a brief tutorial on how to do this i guess. i dunno.

Been thinking on and off for years about the idea of making actual mixtapes or, at the very least, mix cds.
Mixtapes are more appealing to me but seems to have a much higher like… learning curve. When I try to look into the process and the equipment, even just going for low quality—low budget, I get overwhelmed about the process and all the shit I don’t know what it means you know. I was thinking mixtapes because I have a walkman, but the car I’m now driving has a cd player, so I guess I could just do mix cds instead. (That said, i’m usually only in the car for like 10-15 minutes at a time)
I’ve also been thinking about that post about how instead of paying for spotify on a monthly basis they put that amount towards buying one cd a month on a pay-what-you-want type platform like soundcloud. So you end up owning (rather than streaming) the music and directly contributing to the artist.
for years now, with the exception of the last couple years where time seemed to stand still, I’ve been making seasonal playlists that I listen to on loop. I like the idea of have a physical collection/library of those playlists and that progression of time in my life.
Anyways, if anyone has recommendations for equipment and/or clear tutorials for recording mix tapes (from cds or from the computer?) or good external cd/dvd drive with ripping/burning capabilities I would be very grateful 🙏
