Hello.
I guess i'm fronting again. Life has really been stressing us out enough that i, the titular "chill guy" has to steer the ship. Again.
Anyway, since the others are not here and i am currently in bed, i guess i can vent about my source related drama a little.
I've seen Quackity and Wilbur (Dsmp) here already, so sorry if im...introducing yet another MCYT into your asks, haha!
anyway, I just...don't really like my source anymore. Everything just feels tainted because every single time *i'm* there i know that everyone else can only think of how disgusting of a person my creator was. How every single one of my sourcecalls was rejected for that exact reason, or if they weren't, nobody reached out. I know it wasn't my fault, but at the same time, i think everyone thinks it is! I just wanted to help everyone in that god-forsaken island, bleeding out for YOU all, and now because of what "he" did i can't even get an "hello" or any aknowledgement from people i KNOW used to know me.
I wonder how you guys manage it, but frankly, i am on the point of breaking if i see yet another screenshot in which *I* am crossed out. I can't understand why it's so hard to differenciate someone from someone else.
Whatever, i hope that we can switch out when we go to sleep because i seriously need a break.
-Forever, QSMP. Tag as Whatever, i'm a Fictive but this vent extends to everyone with a "problematic" source or creator. Yes, even those ones. We're all in the same boat.

Annabeth: What's the most polite way to phrase "you fucked up big time and need to fix this now or else" in a professional email?
Percy: "Hello, I hope this email finds you before I do"

I know I'm being joke-y about it but I am actually very sad and hurt rn because this ban is just the start of the US government stripping us of our rights! It was never about security risks, it's always been about the rich dickheads in the government not wanting us to be able to speak to one another and spread information about the causes we care about without censorship.

some franco things i cannot stop thinking about
(because the brainrot is actually becoming too much to handle)
him saying he is more of a dog person (his family owns a dog) but if he were to buy a pet now it'd be a cat because he wouldn't feel bad about leaving it alone
his team telling him time and time again to just catch a private car to the Williams factory - him insisting on catching a public bus instead (saying he can get a good view from the top deck)
his team having to buy an extra suitcase for all the gifts he received after the last weekend in brazil
on that note - him not feeling the best that weekend (for many, obvious reasons) but feeling so touched by all the fans that came out for him that he went out to greet them anyways
him being shocked at alex's 14 hour screen time saying he only has about 2hr 50 minutes 😭
his bereals
actually just the whole segment of him making alex mate and explaining things about it so proudly
his strategy in Austin being his own idea - and then joking that if he doesn't get a seat he can just become a strategist
his curls
him taking that interview on the bike - and also blabbing about the expensive merch prices, telling people to just buy fakes or else they'll end up eating rice for months
him on that talk show wearing pants that still had the security tag on them 😭😭 (and then explaining that he put them on cuz they were nice and they beeped when he left the store, but the employees told him just to go anyways)
okay that's all i can think of for now GOODBYE!!!!

hey, small psa:
fictives are just people. you wouldn't walk up to a person you saw on the news once while they're having dinner and say "holy shit guys it's Jimothy Cumwomble, great job on stopping that armed robbery, sorry your brother died in the process". that would be completely socially unacceptable - you'd be butting in on their life, overstepping not just their boundaries but basic social decency, and bringing up potentially traumatic life events. it's rude, infantilizing, and potentially directly harmful. so why would you do the same to a fictive just because you know, or think you know, their source?
and that's not to say "never bring up a fictive's source to them", plenty of fictives enjoy talking about their sources! but there's a little thing called tact. you can ask whether they're okay with talking about it, or join in on a conversation where they already are, even just a "hey if you don't mind could we chat about your source" would go a long way. but suddenly changing the topic to their source not just without warning but by singling them out as "weird" or "interesting" and saying things about their source that would never be appropriate to say to a singlet about their past is not cool.
TLDR, a fictive existing in a public space is not an excuse to single them out, put a spotlight on them, and bring up potentially traumatic parts of their history just because you think their source is neat. have a little common sense about timing and approach, or just let them exist in peace.

i really do think there’s a huge disconnect on here w/ people who have never used tiktok as to what it actually is and who actually uses it. the number of people i’ve seen call it a “teen dancing app” is actually insane. it has not been a teen dancing app since i was in high school, around 2016 - 2020. the main communities i saw on a daily basis were 1) black history/anti-racism educators, 2) high school & college teachers sharing in-classroom strategies and frustrations with the education system, 3) local/state political leaders giving real-time updates on behind-the-scenes government decisions, & 4) community activism & leadership. like tiktok is an adult platform. almost every person i interacted with was my age or older. and yes it completely depends on your fyp and how you interact with the app, yes there’s still teenagers and dance videos and literally anything else you can think of. but these communities of adults aren’t insubstantial at all, they have literally millions of interactions on a daily basis. there’s about a million other types of communities that i could name just off the top of my head, because the range of users was SO diverse and thriving. it’s a long-distance community tool, just like any other social media—and honestly much better than any other social media, because it relies primarily on the kindness of strangers. i saw at least 5-10 videos today of queer people in rural areas panicking because they don’t have any access to queer community on any other platform or in real life. and before i end this i do want to say i think tiktok is coming back, i think this is a highly orchestrated political move, etc., but i do know it won’t ever be exactly the same. people are panicking about free speech violations because tiktok was a place where people fucking SPEAK. i have never seen mass mobilization and communication in this same way for as long as i’ve been alive. it is the people’s app, not just a silly teenage thing. if you’re not on tiktok and never have been, please stop talking about it like you know anything at all😭

This person has a more expansive definition of plagiarism than me, and I think some of the translation problems likely are more of a problem in their specific domains. But the points about re-wording the sources to be less accurate and just incorrectly citing sources altogether (using them as references for things those sources don't even say!!) seem likely to affect Wikipedia in general. I've certainly notice plenty of poorly written, confusing sentences on Wikipedia just in my casual browsing.
And the "cascading errors" -- arising from multiple editors trying "improve" articles without checking the sources, thus making the Wikipedia article *more* incorrect -- seems like an intrinsic property of how wikipedia works.

thinking about how easy it would be to give the districts the illusion of choice in the 25th games.
If the votes were private, the capitol could pick anyone they wanted, so long as it’s remotely believable.
Say d12 agrees on a seam kid, yet when the votes are tallied, the capitol announces they’ve voted in a merchant kid instead. Automatically, the merchants turn on the seam population, thinking they wronged them. The tensions would be high enough. Turn them against each other and watch them point fingers.
It’s an easy way the capitol can cause infighting without suspicion. It’s an easy way to keep the districts divided. To mask the real enemy.

thinking of the unique experience of being a scholar studying a historical figure and being the first person ever to get their hands on primary sources, not just retold myths and legends. the weird one-sided relationship where you know more about someone long-dead than anyone else alive, more than anyone in their own life knew of them too. feeling that you understand them. you'd even be friends if you met - you've stayed up countless nights compiling memories of them and you've thought of the exact right words you could have said to maybe ease their burden just a little. you could have saved them, they would have liked you, and no relationship is easier than when one of you has no say in the matter

It's need to be emphasised that relatively little anti-atheism on tumblr meaningfully engages with the actual issues with New Atheism (or any other existing strain of reactionary atheist thought). Most of the rhetoric shows less concern with the main body of the movement and more with superficial shadows of its legacy; informed less by the specific role of New Atheism in supporting US Imperialism and more by the vague recollection that some atheist youtubers in the 2010s were anti-feminist and the vaguer recollection that some atheist intellectuals in the 2000s were Islamophobic. There's little critiquing the ideology and historical role of Hitchens or Dawkins and much more critiquing the personal character of u/edgyneckbeard93. The overall state of anti-atheist thought on tumblr has less in common with this and more in common with this
And on the relatively rare occasions someone following this strain of thought actually references New Atheism in place of "Reddit Atheism", the movement will have it's historical significance and contemporary legacy massively exaggerated while being rhetorically removed it from the broader context it occupies. Because the level of hostility many self "Progressives" on tumblr direct towards atheism as a whole is not remotely proportionate to the impact of it's actually existing reactionary manifestations. Little of this hostility can be described as a misguided but well-meaning reaction to the genuine problems of reactionary atheism. It's largely tumblr users engaging in their favourite practice of promulgating reactionary ideas using progressive language; the existence of reactionary atheist movements (whether referenced directly or not) is just a convenient excuse to engage in the most vulgar forms of anti-atheism without sounding like any other religious reactionary. Responding to critiques of tumblr anti-atheism by saying things like "Erm, you realise New Atheism was bad though" completely misunderstands the context what's being said and why

I think ff15 would have gone very differently had anyone managed to frame the prophecy not as a divine inevitability but a demand made by the imminent threat to the world and to Noctis that is Bahamut.
Bahamut gets framed as- not benevolent per se, but *good* by the narrative. You’re told that this is the god who created the crystal, the prophecy, the ring. This is the god who has been in your corner from the jump. Don’t question it too hard. Go quietly into that goodnight.
The chessmaster has never once had the best interests of their pawns at heart.
Hold Bahamut up to scrutiny and he is the reason that Noct must die. Who orchestrated the growing darkness? Who demanded sacrifice to stop that same darkness in its tracks?
It is, I maintain, not necessary sacrifice. There exists a world in which the ring of the lucii demands a blood toll- a life for a life- and it goes unpaid. There exists a world that the crystal demands a blood toll- the king for the world- and it too goes unpaid. Still, the sun rises.
So then if Noct’s death is unnecessary, that means Bahamut is demanding the frivolous death of the man Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto swore to defend. That makes Bahamut a threat, just the same as daemons or Nifilheim or Ardyn or Ifrit.
And I think, come hell or high water, that the bros wouldn’t fold to that sort of threat. They’d stand and fight.

And what does neil do? Instead of wearing the clothes Andrew buys him, he just wears Andrew’s clothes
