just ordered parts for a rough draft of a bug sweeper /o/

turns out it’s not that complex of an idea. just a spectrum analyzer and a highly directional antenna really. the key issue i’m expecting is designing an antenna array that covers the full bandwidth of interest. the tinySA covers 100k-5.3G, which is pretty broad and definitely too much for most antennas. the spiral antenna design looks promising though, especially if it could be done in a PCB, but it may still end up being pretty large to accommodate freqs down to 100 kHz. maybe a pair of a spiral plus something else more compact for low freqs will work better

Just got into the apothecary diaries (finished watching it in like 2 days lol) and I have to say I am surprised that apparently there’s some discourse about the nature of JinMao’s relationship?

Like… both of them are obviously on the ace spectrum. Because Jinshi is so down bad people seem to forget that he’s very much on there too. It’s not just that he takes medicine to “suppress his manhood.” He is surrounded by the most gorgeous women who are constantly throwing themselves at him or are just generally being as sexy as possible because it’s literally their job, and the man has no reaction. The only reason he’s so affected when Maomao dresses up is because he’s not used to seeing her like that, if he’d met her when she was all dolled up he probably wouldn’t have batted an eye.

Furthermore, what he wants from Maomao doesn’t seem to me to be inherently sexual, he just oozes sex appeal like a slug does mucus and that colors all his actions to everyone else, including Maomao. He uses this strategically and does it on purpose sometimes but he isn’t totally aware of it when he isn’t purposefully trying, hence the honey scene (this is my interpretation). What he wants from Maomao is emotional connection that goes both ways. He gave her the hairpin so that he could be the one to let her go home and expected nothing in return, it was never a proposition. He was jealous that she went to another man for the same thing and didn’t seem to think it was sexual until Maomao herself insinuated that it was, which shocked him greatly. This scene is so hilarious that it’s easy to miss that subtext, but his jealousy was always over perceived emotional connection and reliance on another man and he actually calmed down once he understood that the whole affair was transactional and Maomao didn’t give any sexual favors herself. When he meets with the guy again later he gets mad when he says that Maomao let her guard down around him (which she didn’t). Jinshi may be a bit touchy but that’s part of his personality and likely a manifestation of his desire for emotional connection more than physical intimacy.

Anyway my point is that JinMao is a great ship between two demisexual/acespec individuals and I am totally here for it! Maomao may say that she left love behind in the womb but I don’t think that means she’s aromantic, just that her childhood trauma has made her severely emotionally closed off and her journey includes healing and learning to love again.

The problem with ColorKiller becoming more popular is that now everyone is showing them as soft and healthy when Killer has no capacity for that kind of relationship. Ugh

I profoundly dislike this kind of anti-recovery sentiment.

I'm assuming that the reason why you think Killer cannot be in healthy relationships is because of his history of being an abuse victim. Which... Sure is a take. Not a good one though.

I definitely do think it would take time for Color and Killer to get to a healthy point. Mainly because, yes, Killer's ideas of how to interact with others are based on his relationships with Chara, with Nightmare, and with his cats (with the latter being the only healthy one). So I don't doubt that he would be testing limits, pushing boundaries, and probably become unhealthily dependent on Color at the very least at the start (although I do think Color would be enforcing boundaries and doing his best to prevent that. And, when he fails to, he has a ton of friends right there to support him. Delta, Epic, the whole Abyss Team. They love him and they'd be there for him and Killer).

It also will take time for Killer before he's able to stop using violence as a crutch to deal with his boredom. Especially since that was pretty much the only coping mechanism he was allowed for the longest time. Likely years.

So yeah, things wouldn't immediately be sunshine and rainbows between him and Color.

However this is a relationship that has the potential to get there. And I don't think there is any problem with people wanting to focus on their healing, and their happiness instead of just beating Killer down further (plus there are both pieces of fanart as well as fanfictions that focus on the angst too, it's not like they don't exist). Sometimes people just wanna see their ship (be it romantic, platonic, queerplatonic, or something else entirely) be happy.

Lastly, my opinion on the "there isn't enough of this thing I like" kind of complaints will always be the same: if you used the time you use to complain to create something instead, this would no longer be so much of an issue. Draw, write, analyze, create and you'll see that fandom spaces become a lot more enjoyable.

I’ve already written about the Kamski Test in another post, but this is one of those subjects where different parts of it jump out more as you go, so here’s more. 

Today’s rambling: Kamski and Hank have no idea what they’re doing but they act like they do, and they don’t stop to consider that they don’t.

Does anyone remember the part at the Eden Club where Connor has no easy way to test for deviancy on the spot? How there’s no flag that anyone can bring up on a debugger and go ‘Aha, a deviant!’, there’s no concrete answer. Despite this, Hank and Kamski both act like this Kamski Test is miraculously capable of doing that, even though the test basically says ‘Quick, Connor, let’s blackmail you into shooting this girl and then form opinions about your worth as a person over it!’

Anyway, they buy into it. If Connor doesn’t shoot, then Kamski is thrilled, and he waves the words empathy and deviancy around with relish. Hank hurries Connor out protectively in front of him, and when they talk outside his tone is notably speculative and pleased.

If Connor shoots, Kamski’s tone switches hard from enthralled to disappointed, and he declares Connor to have shown no empathy. Hank, meanwhile, is furious. Chloe showed no emotions except pretty smiling and Connor visibly struggles during the test, but Hank’s focus is entirely on reeling over Chloe’s death and accusing Connor of being a machine.

Hank actually holds on to this test even on into the next Chapter, where he can bring it up after they talk with Fowler. Hank will follow the steps of the Kamski test, looking at Connor’s actions, and evaluating them for their empathy.

(If Connor didn’t shoot Chloe) Hank: When you refused to kill that android at Kamski's place... You put yourself in her shoes. You showed empathy, Connor. 

(If Connor saved Hank from falling) Hank: When I was hanging off the roof, back at the urban farm, you let that deviant go in order to help me. You put my life above the mission. You showed empathy, Connor. 

(If Connor protected Hank from shooting) Hank: Back at Stratford Tower, when that android was shooting at anything that moved... You protected me... You... Risked your life to save mine. That showed empathy, Connor.

No one stops to question whether or not Connor wants to participate. Kamski came up with a test, they accept between themselves that it’s valid, and that’s the end of it. While Hank does tell Connor not to complete the test when it gets to the part that involves shooting the Nice Girl, Connor had already been showing stress and trying to divert things before this point, and Hank doesn’t actually intervene on either android’s behalf.

TL;DR: the humans in the room decide to give their android a half-assed five minute test for sentience, and then both completely buy into their own speculation.

I was reading the effects of sensory deprivation, and something got me thinking.

the people in the study where put in an soundproof insulated room and were allowed to leave at any time and they knew this, but despite this, by the 18th hour of being in the room, one girl start obsessively thinking that she was locked in the room; increasingly growing distressed and panicked even though she knew this wasn’t true, and her distress only relieved when she pushed the plunger to be let out.

Which is to say: I wonder how many times Color started panicking and tried to escape the Void, almost killing himself or risking doing so, and any time Gaster stopped him or “put him back together,” Color either started getting the idea or outright started accusing Gaster of keeping him locked up and trapped in the Void.

Probably accusing Gaster of not wanting to be alone or forgotten again.

Since my dp&w analysis are blowing up I also want to add something else I feel like people haven't spoken about, and it's the fact that I've seen a few fellow a-spec people state they didn't notice how a-spec the Deadpool & Wolverine movie was and I would like to take a moment to make a proper post explaining why it can be interpreted that way.

The singular Honda Odyssey scene was in fact sexually charged and very fucking queer, but usually it's described as gay sex without actual dicks out and about. Or at least that it wasn't on camera when they were out and about.

But I believe the accidental censorship of Dinsey the Deadpool studio had to work around and the relationship and dynamic of Wade and Logan actually created something so a-spec that I literally haven't seen anything more a-spec in my life? (that isn't mentioning one specific fic I hold dear to my heart)

You have an emotionally charged interaction that involves passionate, brutal yet consensual physical actions that reflect as penetration and some kinky ass shit without actually crossing that social sexual/romantic line. Both Wade and Logan give "come here" motions, they're fighting but there were moments they could have stopped if they wanted to but didn't.

They're being intimate with one another in a way that fits them both and the situation. It can be seen as sexual, a fight, and blowing off steam all at once and I think an aspect of being a-spec is being told how your actions with someone else don't make sense within two boxes (sexual and/or romantic) or mean something that only lives within those boxes.

If you're a term person than think of it a specific type of physical and aesthetic intimacy. One involves touch without entering the body and one involves doing something both enjoy and bonding over it, encouraging each others enjoyment.

kaz brekker & asexuality

ok so I’m an asexual person who hcs kaz brekker as asexual, and I’ve seen consistent, varyingly different takes on this in the fandom since day one. however a large amount of the reasoning behind kaz either being ace or not being ace is harmful and incorrect, whether or not people are aware of it of course. so some things that are very important for the fandom to take into account are:

the ace spectrum is very wide and very diverse. there is not one way to be aseuxal or to experience asexuality. demisexuality and other terms are encompassed by the term asexuality. 

asexuality because of trauma is completely valid. that being said, viewing kaz as ace because of his haphephobia and ptsd because you see it as protocol is uncool. a lot of ace people are routinely accused of being ace because of trauma they experienced and while yes, that can be the case, the assumption of it is what’s harmful. traumatised people can have fulfilling lives and fulfilling (and sexual) relationships while still having severe ptsd. you can also be traumatised and asexual, completely unrelated to each other. crazy, right? 

there is also reasoning for kaz being ace or inej being ace rooted in ableism. 1, abled people struggle with the concept of disabled people being able to have sexual relationships due to their disabledness *GaSp*, 2, abled people struggle with the fact that disability and disabled bodies can be desirable *gAsP*. 

it’s clear to me that kaz experiences desire and experiences attraction. what is not clear to me is that any of that attraction is ever sexual. i never interpreted it that way. the things he desires are not sexual and while they are commonly viewed in a strictly sexual sense, logically all of them are romantic and yet still don’t have to be sexual. he is 17 and he longs for physical and emotional intimacy which he cannot have, having been isolated in every possible way since he was 9 years old, and being completely unable to be close with people that he loves and cares for due to severe touch aversion. however, being asexual doesn’t mean that you can’t experience sexual attraction. tbh, I don’t think in the books kaz does at all, but that has no bearing on his specific ability to feel other kinds of attraction, he and inej are just teenagers. either way, it’s important not to fall into ace stereotyping ✌️

anyway. just a few reasons I hc kaz as asexual, specifically demisexual: 

the line “he knew what he was expected to say, the things he was supposed to want.” screams asexuality. like,, as a person who’s been affected by assumed and forced allosexuality I can understand that this is what this line completely encompasses. then; “he did want those things, in moments, in flashes.” in moments, in flashes. confliction. desire. this line means a lot of things but in the context of sexuality, this is literally peak demisexual. kaz is always in a battle between desire and disgust but this scene specifically is so so important. “a girl crossing the street in a cobalt dress that slid from her shoulder, a dancer moving like flames in a show on east stave, imogen laughing like he’d told the funniest joke in the world when he hadn’t said much at all.” this is so distinctly asexual attraction, and kaz experiencing attraction despite his outward rejection of it.

anyways there is not One True Interpretation TM. I hc kaz as asexual because of book context and because that’s how he feels to me. his asexuality has nothing to do with his trauma, reputation, personality, or haphephobia, though of course his sexuality/attraction is affected by those things in many ways. whether or not kaz is asexual is not a big deal, but there is so much complexity to his character and brushing important aspects of it aside for surface level allosexual assumptions (especially by allosexual people) is so disappointing. also pls try to steer yourself away from harmful ideology forced on us by our destructive and controlling societal infrastructures. happy pride!

Some evidences for Patterson being autistic coded:

The way she dives into casework, solving elaborate ciphers, staying up for days, and even forgetting meals, is a textbook example of hyperfixation. Not to mention how she often prefers working alone or in controlled environments.

Patterson often shows physical signs of overwhelm in high-stress moments, like flinching at noise, covering her face, pacing, etc. Her responses aren’t just dramatic, and don't need to be. She doesn’t always have the space to fall apart, so she implodes quietly, and it's a classic female-coded autistic masking.

She feels for people. Deeply. But doesn’t always know what to do with those feelings in the moment, and autistic-coded women often present like this, like caregivers who are “too much” or “too intense”

Fidgets with tech, taps pens, needs her lab just-so. It's a regulation via control (her lab = safe space) and meltdowns as system crashes.

Patterson’s arc = Autistic Burnout in Reverse. Like the way she starts masked, but by Season 5, she’s demanding her lab back, setting boundaries, and owning her weird.

Inuyasha & Demisexuality

i think halfway into writing this i thought about just cramming all my thoughts into a semi-coherent rant due to a combination of a.) lack of access to decent translations of the manga and b.) paranoia about over-analyzing scenes and coming off as delusional (i think by now it's probably too late to thwart that claim) buuut this headcanon in particular is near and dear to me so i want to try and get as in depth as possible.

what is demisexuality?

in simple terms, demisexuality is when an individual doesn't experience primary attraction - that is, the sort of attraction based on immediate observable (often physical) characteristics - and instead only experiences secondary attraction first: the type of attraction that forms after the development of a deep emotional bond.

inuyasha and kikyo

this aforementioned term perfectly describes inuyasha and his relationships with the only women he's ever loved romantically. you could make the claim that his inability to feel primary attraction first stems from his trust issues and not inherent sexual orientation. and to that, i would disagree - he and kikyo develop an emotional bond despite an unspoken lack of trust, which may have improved had naraku not meddled in their lives. still, both find solace in each other's similarities, loneliness, and "outlier" status (though the similarities are in isolation only, if i'm being completely honest) and establish a connection that persists post-revival.

inuyasha eventually did start to feel primary attraction to kikyo during their time together - in the second chapter of the manga, when he compares kagome to her, he states that kikyo "looked pretty."

[source - viz. i haven't been in this fandom long, but what i've gathered is that there are a lot of mis-translations of this manga, even from viz. since i have yet to buy physical copies of the manga and don't have an account for the site, i'm going to be using fan-scans for the rest of these, which hopefully won't really affect what i'm trying to convey since i'll be looking at character expressions rather than dialogue for most of them.]

i'd also note the order in which he lists those traits: kikyo looked intelligent and pretty. her intelligent appearance is the first part of her he remembers, which i think underscores his priorities in this regard. he values things like intelligence and companionship - facets that come to light when developing secondary attraction towards someone - more than aspects of primary attraction.

inuyasha and kagome

as mentioned before, demisexuals don't feel physical attraction before establishing a tight emotional bond. the most blatant examples i could think of this were any instances in which inuyasha sees kagome nude and his difference in reaction - in particular, during the yura of the hair and togenkyo arcs, which are roughly seventy-three chapters apart. there are two new moons in that time, and from that we can say at least two months have passed.

chapter six: yura of the hair

kagome's bathing below him, and i'm sorry, but this expression literally screams "zero fucks given." he does not care in the slightest. not a blush. not a spot of red on his cheeks. not a sweatdrop. not a tee-hee. if i were to describe what he's feeling in this moment i would say "extreme ire." when she uses the sit command on him, it's on the assumption that he's "peeking," but kaede understands that it's actually because inuyasha is trying to steal a shard of the shikon jewel.

"huh?" - he sounds genuinely confused that she reached that conclusion, even though he was quite literally peering over the cliff's edge in what obviously has very perverse connotations. it's almost like he doesn't understand why kagome would think his actions come from a place of sexual attraction because that sort of thing just isn't on his mind at all, and he doesn't get why it would be in the first place.

another extremely blatant example can be see in miroku's introductory chapter: chapter 51, the delinquent priest:

do i even have to say anything. this scene also further emphasizes my previous point - before, the only reason he was there was to try and steal kagome's jewel shard. if his true intentions had been driven by primary attraction, this would have been an opportune moment to "peep." in his words, however, he just isn't interested. note that he could have said something along the lines of "i wouldn't do something like that" (which, if he was attracted to her in that way from the start, wouldn't have done anyway) but specifically i'm not interested. the primary attraction is not there in the slightest. at least, not until:

chapter eighty two: fateful night in togenkyo

the scene i'm talking about needs no introduction, but for context: kagome's half-freaking out after having woken up in a sake bath. inuyasha breaks down the door to come and rescue her, accidentally seeing her naked in the process. well, i'm sure his reaction won't be that dif-

okay, two-

i think at this point it's fairly obvious that primary attraction has developed. besides the fact that he's spent three panels trying not to look like he's having a quasi allergic reaction, it's been approximately two months since they've met, and by now they've definitely formed the deep emotional bond required for him to begin feeling any primary attraction at all. in fact, the chapter where he tells kagome "there's no replacement for you" - that chapter, where he's vulnerable and honest and opening up to her, strengthening their bond further, (ch. 78, a tender smell) is directly before the togenkyo arc begins, and, thus, just before these scenes occur. these chapters have all been building up secondary attraction, and now that primary attraction is just starting to show up.

several chapters later we have this iconic panel from 173:

this is such a look of awe, as though he's gazing up at a goddess. jaw dropped, eyes-wide, words trailing off awe. he's entranced. fully head-over-heels in love, feeling both primary and secondary attraction in regards to kagome, and this trend only continues throughout the entirety of the manga.

conclusion + extra thoughts

my belief in this headcanon comes from not just the evidence depicted above, but because i just related a ton reading those scenes. i found myself just nodding along (as someone who's demisexual themselves!) plus, since ace-spectrum representation is so rare, it's nice to see it reflected in a character whose story and relationships i love dearly.

Oh, I just don't really see that as an either/or kinda deal.

For romance to work in any way that can be considered healthy they gotta have friendship as a base of it.

And with Color and Killer especially I think they're just each other's other half. It doesn't matter how you interpret that. My own interpretation of their relationship fluctuates heavily. The only thing that remains consistent is that they're the most important person in each other's life.

I'm fine with whatever other dynamic people wanna add on top of that as long as they deeply care for each other. Color is Killer's biggest fascination, he's an unsolvable puzzle and a game he doesn't want to win because that would mean putting an end to it. And Killer is Color's rock, he's the only weirdo who truly entirely sees him for himself, and he's someone he'd go to Hell and back for.

Whatever that all is to you, that's what they got going on.
