Hey there, I know it’s been two long years since I last picked up this story, and I’m finally back to finish what I started. I hope you can forgive the delay—and more importantly, I hope you enjoy these final chapters. I could rattle off a list of excuses, but honestly, it boils down to this: I lost my spark. Somewhere along the way, I drifted from the show, the characters, and the energy that fueled this plot. It wasn’t until I noticed my old H50 posts popping up on here—still being shared and commented on—that I couldn’t ignore the pull any longer. You all brought me back. So, I dusted off one of my favorite couples and dove back into this storyline I’ve always loved. A huge thank you to everyone who’s stuck with me through this ridiculously long wait—your patience means the world.

Steve smirked, faintly, taking another sip. “Tastes like tar, but it’s warm. You want a refill?”

“Nah,” Danny said, pushing his mug away, the cold sludge sloshing. “Already had too much. My stomach’s bitching.”

“Shoulda ate something,” Steve said, nodding at the counter where the onions still sat, untouched from last night. “We left a whole damn meal out.”

Danny snorted, dry. “Yeah, ‘cause I was in the mood to cook after that shitshow. You want it, it’s yours.”

Steve laughed, low, shaking his head. “Pass. Looks like it’s plotting revenge in there.”

“Probably is,” Danny said, smirking despite himself, the familiar rhythm kicking in. “Sauce went cold, onions staging a coup. Kitchen’s a crime scene now.”

“Call HPD,” Steve said, playing along, leaning forward, elbows on the counter. “Tell ‘em we got a 10-45—hostile leftovers.”

“10-45 my ass,” Danny shot back, grinning now, the tension loosening a bit. “You’d eat it anyway, you animal. I’ve seen you choke down worse.”

“Yeah, ‘cause I’m practical,” Steve said, grinning wider, eyes glinting. “You waste food, Jersey. That’s a sin where I’m from.”

“Where you’re from, you’d eat roadkill if it had ketchup,” Danny said, pointing at him, the banter rolling easy now. “Don’t give me that ‘practical’ crap.”

Steve laughed, loud this time, the sound bouncing off the cabinets. “Roadkill’s protein, Danno. You’d thank me if we were stranded.”

“Stranded with you, I’d rather starve,” Danny said, shaking his head, but he was still grinning, the weight lifting for a second. “You’re a damn menace.”

“Takes one to know one,” Steve said, smirking, sipping his coffee again, the mug hiding half his face.

I haven't written McDanno in forever, so idk if the characterization is anywhere near correct. But some McDanno for you all.

"Shut up," Steve practically growled as he glared through the windshield from the passenger seat. There wasn't much to glare at, as the pouring rain was coming down so hard, if he hadn't crashed into any of them on their way back to the truck, he couldn't know there were trees out there.

"I didn't say anything."

"Then why can I hear your ranting anyway, Daniel?"

"Maybe because I am both flabbergasted and amazed at the same time that a previous boy scout turned Navy SEAL who grew up on this island is the one who keeps getting hurt on these adventures you insist on dragging me into!"

"Did you really just say flabbergasted?"

Danny sighed and they returned to silence between them, the only noise being the pouring rain in the jungle. "I can't believe people have paid for this noise to help them fall asleep."

"Not everyone associates any form of water with drowning."

"Yeah, well, that's just another bit of evidence that I'm just smarter than almost everyone," Danny grumbled. There was a pause before he looked over and asked, "How's your leg?"

"Hurts like a bitch. Pretty sure I sprained something but nothing feels broken."

"You're not escaping a doctor visit."

"I never said I wasn't."

"Good."

"I just don't really see why I'd have to. Once we get back, I can ask Max to look me over, get the better bandages, we have over-the-counter pain meds at home. Done and done."

"No," Danny said firmly.

They entered another bit of silence that stretched on, despite the air being filled with a tension of both of them wanting to say more.

Steve sat up, and reached over, while calling out, "Hey..." When he turned Danny's face toward him, he captured the blond's lips with his own in a tender kiss. When they pulled apart, Steve smiled at Danny and ran his hand through his lover's soaked hair, "I'm sorry for ruining your hair."

Danny scoffed but cupped Steve's face and pulled him in for another kiss. This one came with Danny licking Steve's bottom lip. They adjusted as best as they could in the front of Steve's Silverado so they could deepen the kiss into a proper make-out session. When they pulled back this time, Danny flicked Steve's forehead with a nonheated glare, "When are you going to apologize for hurting my boyfriend?"

"That really more important than messing up your hair?" Steve asked with a small, but amused smile.

"Damn right, it is. He's mine. And I hate it when he's hurt. Only acceptable instances are bites from me or bruises left by grips when we're having some fun at home on lazy mornings."

"It's not just lazy mornings."

"If it had been, we'd be at home, making lunch and watching a game..."

This time it was Steve's turn to sigh. He turned back to facing forward but reached for Danny's hand and interlocked their fingers. He brought Danny's hand to his lips and kissed his knuckles, "I want you to see the island like I do. To see it as beautiful and enchanting. I...I want you to like it, if you can't love it. So you're not just tolerating it."

"...hey," Danny echoed what Steve had done earlier and cupped his face and made Steve face him. He leaned in and gave him a gentle, loving kiss, "The island and I are...getting used to each other. Grace's opinion on it matters most to me, and she loves it. But next to being able to be near my daughter, I got another reason for this pineapple infested hell hole to actually be paradise for me."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. And he's got some shit luck every time he tries to get me into the jungle. And hopefully will read into that, that it's a sign from some spirits, to stop bringing your boyfriend out to the jungle!"

"I don't know, Danno. I think we gotta try again. To show whoever keeps fucking up my jungle dates that they can't win! We're winners!"

"Next time you ask me out on a jungle date, you're really gonna have to work for it."

Steve grinned devilishly, "You know I love a challenge. And I know all you like. I'll enjoy getting you to agree for a next time, Danno."

"With what you'll have to do to get me to say yes, not as much as me, babe."

I feel like when it comes down to it, a pissed off Danny William is scarier than a pissed off Steve McGarret. Hear me out, usually when Steve’s pissed off he goes off on his own or he’s working with his team and that’s scary. But Danny, see, Dannny’s a dad, and a Jersey man living in Hawaii, and he’s got a lot of crazy in him that’s just hidden deeper and he holds his temper in with an iron grip or something. Because even if he’s constantly yelling or complaining about Steve and the insanity around him, that’s not him Angry. To get Danny Angry you’d have to have touched his people, as in his kids, his Steve, his family or his team. Then all bets are off and he’ll stop at nothing to get them back. And suddenly all the common sense and caution belong to Certifiably Insane SEAL Steve McGarret. And Danny knows the rules back to front, okay? So he knows exactly how far he can push, then he goes a little further because he knows he can get away with it or even worse he stops giving a shit about consequences.

So yeah, the seasoned criminals of Hawaii learn quickly to not underestimate the “calm” one of the pair. But well, newcomers always seem to learn the hard way, it’s almost like a hazing ritual to let the fresh meat go up against the detective and learn their lesson the hard way

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Maybe Buster the Gay Dog (911) or A Thousand Good Stories (Top Gun/911 Lone Star). The first Eddie & Buck get together at the end. And the second Bradley & Jake are engaged by the end.

Do you get hate on fics? Rarely. But the funniest one to me was on the 5 Times Tony Stark fic. I was called both a misogynist and homophobic.

Do you write smut? If so what kind? I very rarely write true smut. I do fade to black often. I did write a fic once where Starfire gave Jason a blowjob in an alley. And I swear it isn't exactly what it sounds like but it is at the same time. She was trying to make him stop risking his life by giving him something to live for. Look there is a reason I don't write much smut in over a decade.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Yes, I write crossovers. It's kinda my thing really. As for the craziest one? I honestly don't know because a bunch are probably considered odd. Maybe the Marvel crossover with Red White & Royal Blue. Or maybe 9-1-1 and Eureka. Or maybe 9-1-1 Lone Star & Marvel. Or 9-1-1 Lone Star & DC comics. Or maybe my recent Danny Phantom and 9-1-1.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Yup. It was copied word for word. But it was so long ago I couldn't actually tell which of my fics it was. It might even be one of the ones I orphaned in the years to follow because I don't touch that fandom anymore, nor do I want it associated with me.

What are your writing strengths? I'd like to say my dialogue. And ridiculous chaotic plots in a fun way.

What are your writing weaknesses? Finishing a story before starting ten more. The non dialogue parts.

Thoughts on writing dialouge in another language in a fic? Be careful there be dragons there. I know I've done it in some fics. And a sentence here or there isn't the worst if you aren't fluent. But be open if someone ever corrects you. And more than that maybe find a beta that is fluent in whatever language you are hoping to add to the fic. I know google translate can be rough.

First fandom you wrote in? Ugh, I don't want to answer but if googling my penname is accurate it would have been May '05 so it appears to have been a Harry Potter and BtVs crossover.

Favorite fic you've written? Toss up between Won't You Come See About Me (Top Gun/Marvel) or Wild Angels (9-1-1 Lone Star/DC Comics). Both are WIPs that are NOT abandoned in the slightest.

When Cupid and Valentine work together

Or how they fell in love with an arrow through their liver.

Hi my friends, I'm here again with more McDanno observations.

This meta is linked to my previous observations from season 1 to 4 and you can find it here and here.

I'm gonna talk about season 5 and 6, and how I will present to you proofs that Danny is Steven's true love and how the Liver Transplant worked as the ultimate Cupid's arrow for these two.

Okay, let's start!

Say yes, say no

The first episode of season 5 begins with a young couple that find death, after the man asked the girl to marry him. A tragic marriage proposal, foreshadowing the failed attempt of Steve McGarrett to ask Cath to marry him.

At the same time the first episode talked about one stolen liver, that was about to be transplanted to an important attorney.

Steve got shot and Kamekona comes to visit, and Steve mentions that maybe next time he will get a mortal shot into a vital organ, as a joke, but is a prelude to season 6 finale.

Now, I want to talk 5x04. In this episode we met VALENTINE, an assassin, that had received a heart from a young, honest and kind man.

That transplant changed him into a new man, his words to Steve were very revealing. He said that kind of experience changed everything.

This is a very important foreshadow to the incoming lethal experience Steve will suffer in 6x25. Writers are pointing at the transplant like SOME VERY MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE. THE TURNING POINT IN STEVEN AND DANNY LIVES.

But Also, naming that man with a transplant VALENTINE is the big subtext here. The liver transplant not just will change their lives for ever, but will bond them romantically. The sun and the moon are going to find each other for once! If you don't get this symbolism, go check my previous meta here.

Jumping to season 6, we will have so many episodes related to marriage, proposals and weddings. Is the season in which producers said STEVE WILL MEET THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE. Right?

In one of the episodes we have the visit of an old and well known retired police man who became a private detective. His POV narrates the story, and one of his quotes caught my attention, he says something like 'When Cupid makes a mistake, the consequences are disastrous."

Then, in the season we will have Catherine leaving, before Steve propose her to marry him. So, is not Catherine.

Which made me think this...

With Catherine leaving and breaking Steve's heart, and the oroginal McGarrett character at the beginning of season 7 saying that maybe she wasn't the one for him, gives us clues about CATHERINE NOT BEING STEVE'S TRUE LOVE. So she is not the one the producers were talking.

Then we have Lynn. Is a fresh girl, and Steve tries to drive her to the spot in the sea where his father used to bring him, but they ended going to where Lynn's grandfather always brought her. She looks perfect for Steve, but something is off, because things didn't worked in Saint Valentine, and then, we had 7x16 which was a real demonstration of who is Steve's priority (Danny) But I will talk about this later, in my next meta.

So, Lynn is not Steve's true love.

Then... Who is it?

Danny saved me

I want to point at the scene in Adam and Kono's wedding, the dance. Yes. Steve was dancing with Cath but then...

Subtex were telling us who will be Steve's true love. He left Cath and goes dance with Danny.

But there's this special episode in which Steve's aunt comes back with a boyfriend, and they decided to get married. Both of them with terminal cancer. And in the middle of their votes, the man says SHE SAVED ME. And how they met the love of their lives with death at their doors.

This is really meaningful and is talking again about the transplant, how Steve and Danny will bond romantically, through a deadly situation. Danny will save Steve, and they will fall in love, this time for real, without flirting games or doubts.

Steve starts to open his heart

The couple therapy in season 5 can be seen as something very hilarious, related to the famous couple crisis at their 5th anniversary. But is more than that. It really helped Steve to start to open his heart to Danny.

The mcdanno episode in which Steve tells Danny about his passion about playing the guitar, we saw him breaking a little fragile cat statue. Cat represents Steve, and how broken he will be after Cath will leave him.

But in season 6 we had a disastrous Saint Valentine, with couples fighting, including our romantic Danny, yelling Melissa was his priority, when she was not. First is Gracie and Charlie, and second? We know who is in the second place here. And he couldn't say the three words to her because he doesn't love her.

But this, i will talk about this.

In episode 6x08 Danny enters into the "flirting making Steve jealous" , this time using Hank.

Why? Because Steve has Lynn now, and Danny knows it.

Danny compared him to Hank, and that's it for Steve. Steve goes on into "SO YOU LIKE HIM? WATCH ME GO INTO A DATE WITH SOMEONE."

And Danny is pleased.

You don't care, Danny, because you like Hank. Why would you care about who am I dating? And he says SOMEBODY here, genderless word. Bi subtex.

So, after this, we have these tow boys playing around again...

Both of these scenes in 6x09 and 6x10, the floating game started again. Immediately after Danny made Steve jealous of Hank because Steve started to date Lynn.

Lou is not amused hahahaaha.

To Conclude:

Season 5 spreads clues foreshadowing Steve's transplant in 6x25, but it also, together with season 6, showed Valentine and Cupid and "ROMANCE IS IN THE AIR, DANNY" to prepare the banquet for the McDanno final encounter through a liver.

Steve's true love is right in front of him, and the clues about who is it, had been shown clearly. Bullets and arrows through the heart!! In the whole season! And even Danny played archery in one episode. Time to put a love arrow in that liver, Danny.

I think that the Hawaii five-0 ending shouldn’t be looked at from the perspective of Steve choosing Catherine over his family. Steve spent ten years on the island building this family that he will always have: and that was so beautifully represented in the finale. This is especially true in regards to his relationship with Danny - which was the main focus of 90% of the episode; and the special and unbreakable kind of bond that the two have. Steve choosing to leave the island, I think, was a beautiful way to end the show because whilst as an audience we witnessed the special family Steve created, we also saw the emotional and stress-filled journey he went on during his time at 5-0, particularly with his (blood) family - and now that he’s saying goodbye (but not forever), he gets to step away from a life of terror and voilence, and instead experience a different side of life that he’s clearly ready for. I know a lot of you will disagree, but the fact that he gets to do that with Catherine by his side is such a besutiful end, because it’s clear that both have loved each other quite greatly since the beginning of the series, but because of Catherine AND Steve’s work - as well as Steve’s 5-0 family within that - they never had the chance to be together. To assume that this ending is disrespectful to Steve and Danny’s relationship is an insult in itself, as it suggests the relationship isn’t strong enough to last a few months or years without seeing each other? No. The Mcdanno relationship will withstand eternity. We also saw the heartbreaking moment Joe White died - and how he told Steve not to let a chance at love go like he did. Steve finally gets this piece of happiness that his father, mother and Joe never got: and this is such a groundbreaking end to the series as it’s a message they’ve continousouly addressed throughout it. Steve will be back with his 5-0 family soon enough, with Catherine, and we can find peace in the knowledge that Steve McGarrett lived a heroic and loved life, but didn’t die fighting for the things that those before him did. He chose to learn from them and be happy - so we should be happy too.

I HAVE THOUGHTS!! And I'm just gonna dump them here okay? Okay.

This makes, what, 3 times Danny has stayed at Steve's? When he was between apartments and then when he was house sitting while Steve was doing a training thing for the Navy.

And not that I don't LOVE Danny staying at Steve's (his "best friend" omg I love that he says that) but why does he need to stay with a friend? What's wrong with his house? What's happening?

Love that he's not staying with Rachel. Just saying.

Okay not to sound mean but how long is Junior gonna live with Steve? It's been what two years now? He doesn't want his own place?

The guest room is taken by Junior. Fair enough. That's cool. But then Steve's like "no the couch is Eddie's you can't have the couch" cause let's be real. We all know where Danny's sleeping. Steve's not subtle. Danny's spot is right here
