Guess who’s back. Back again.
Crackgrin’s back (tell a friend).
Kind of a continuation of this post?
Anyway, I finally finished converting my much-beloved Banshee, Crackgrin, into an 8S (my favourite variant)! It wasn’t the most in-depth conversion I’ve ever done, but there were for sure some unique challenges.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The thing that ended up being the most annoying part of the conversation process was that shoulder-mounted SRM rack the BNC-3S base model has - it connects to the side of the head, so after removing it with my hobby saw I had to add some plasticard to make sure the head was symmetrical, and then try my best to reconstruct some of the detailing with green stuff. This was a huge pain in the ass, but it came out ok I think, as long as you don’t look too close!
Next up were the arms. I had one hell of a time trying to find scrap arms on IWM that would have about the same thickness as normal Banshee arms, and came up pretty much empty. The metal Battlemaster and Highlander both proved too thin, so I ended up 3d-printing a Banshee BNC-3E stl - this had arms what were, if anything, even bigger than the default, but I figured with the 8S being a TSM melee variant and all, it was ok if it had some bulky arms. So I sawed off the originals at the elbow and pinned my new ones on there.
After that, the rest was easy. The snub PPC on the right arm is taken from that metal Battlemaster arm, and the “hatchet” is a 3d-printed 3rd party Power Claymore intended for 40K (I figure that if the clanbuster Black Knight can have a sword-shaped hatchet, so can I). For completeness’s sake, I stuck a little piece of paper clip onto the PPC to represent a medium laser. After painting, I think it’s come out fantastically!
Crackgrin is absolutely my personal signature ‘mech, and in the past the dice have basically always favoured her - my only prayer is that I have done a good enough job with this conversion to appease her machine spirit and keep the good dice rolling!

Still a work in progress. Koumei's dice and a larger Dice cup/box to keep them in. Will upload the stl files to Cults3d when all is completed.

When I found out there was a program that would auto-make dice stls from any font, I designed a font based on the Giant Runes in DnD 5e/Storm King's Thunder for a maybe one day set of dice for Eunice...
Tumblr media
Her dice have been betraying her/me lately so time to finally finish em up and get them print ready! @pho-carrot is gonna help me print em. :B
Tumblr media
The 20 is her Odjur (Ogre) rune that she discovered on a genealogical side quest.
And I'm making them just a bit extra chonky and/or tall...

oh oh i know this one
That's almost assuredly a STL meant to be printed on a dual filament extruder machine - both of those are supposed to be the same print, the one on the left is just meant to be printed inside the number voids on the one on the right in a different color. If you load the STL in any model viewer you'll just see the two models on top of eachother in the right position, just like you'd have them if you were using the model in a game or 3D app. Dice are super popular for dual extruders and are basically hello world for them.
Tumblr media
If you feed one of these to a slicer (converts STL models to actual commands to move the printhead around) that doesn't know it's slicing for a dualhead machine the slicer will go 'oh these models are too close together better space em out' leading to something like this (a d6)
Tumblr media
and then the slicer goes 'oh this model is floating in the air. whatever i'll put a support under it because the user is always right' and you get the image in the OP.
For Weird Dice Wednesday: a 3D printer's creative interpretation of a d20, with another d20 made with the same pattern for comparison:

I have no idea what made it turn out like this and I love it so much

New technique learned! I found this STL file for a silent princess inclusion in a dice. So my husband printed a bunch for me and then painted them.
I even accidentally made a Lost Woods foggy one when the liquid Mica got away from me lol.
I plan on handing them out to kids (I'll ask the parents first) dressed as Zelda characters. I won't have a lot made as one of my two molds tore and I don't have anymore silicone to make another one. 🥺

Figured I'd start documenting my blunders into the One Box Challenge to pressure myself into actually finishing the game. So here's entry one:
The challenge is to make a game using only one Box /set of wargaming miniatures. So step one was to pick a boxset to make a game around, obviously. I decided to limit to favorite Wargames Atlantic STL sets. I've been a member of their Myminifactory Tribe since day one, so I have a lot of options without having to buy any new sets. I limited my pick down to my three favorites:
What about a game around Rebell Yell? The perennial loser confederate soldiers of the Death Fields universe? This faction has some of my favorite sculpts in the Death Fields, full of personality and just fun to paint IMO. As an added bonus all you have to do is paint one side blue and one side grey and you have your factions worked out! Sounds like a good start... But the down sides are pretty strong. The set is pretty small, so there wouldnt be a ton of variety in what you can field. I can't think of anything I could add to the genera of sci-fi or civil war era gaming. And then there's you know the whole everything around the civil war. Not sure I want to be a part of that discourse right now.
Verdict: pass
Now this is a cool set. I'm a big fan of Khem, and ancient board games. I've actually been working on programming a Gameboy game that contains Senet, Aseb, and my own take on Mehen in my free time for about a year now. I have always meant to follow it up with an ancient themed wargame that uses stick dice and maybe a few other things swiped from the oldest board games we know of. This could be an excuse to bump that project up and give it a spooky theme...BUT this is a bit of a passion project, I don't really want to limit it or rush it.
Verdict: put this on hold for later.
Kobolds? I do love this set. The WGA Kobolds are really neat critters with lots of fun details, and two built in factions! The set has classic d&d dog headed lizard men and more recent mini-dragon born heads. Pair that with Kobolds' love for traps, digging mines, and obtaining shiny things for their dragon gods and you have potential for some interesting mechanics.
Verdict: yeah this is something I can work with. Kobolds it is.!

Hey guys, I have a Fiverr account where I can design you a full set of dice to your specifications!
Every set comes with your logo stuck on the D20. I’m pretty quick and every package comes with a full 7 dice set. You can even get a D2 with your logo on it if you want! They’re yours to do with and sell as you please afterwards. If you want to sell customized dice, this is a quick and easy way to get started!

DnD Dice! But... Long?
Hey! I've been working on a random project for a while now. Which is making LONG Dice. Players wanted something other than the usual round-ish dice we are used to, so... I decided to take some Inspiration from old dice sticks.
The STL files for 3D Printing are available here!
Feel free to check them out! :D

I must know where you got the gender die, I have a friend who loves dnd and uses all pronouns and I must get one for them.
Sadly, I made it myself! You could probably commission a dice maker to do so (though I expect it would be quite expensive as it needs new base dice and new molds).
If any commercial dice makers see this and want to get the gender die out into the wild, feel free to contact me and I can send you the stl! (Or print you a master if you're in the UK ^^ )

I've probably got a dice tower for fear! That's a new one, but out of the literal thousands of STLs I've saved, I guarantee there's one that can invoke such emotion! Perhaps Tiamat will do??
Tumblr media
Or just a general dragon??
Tumblr media
My friend commissioned a dice tower that requires the use of my resin printer, which I haven't booted up in over a year now. I panicked, thinking if it broke or something. When I turned it on, and decided to start printing, well... the z axis ceased moving entirely. And that's when the REAL fear set in.
Until I recognized I simply had to turn off the printer, and turn it on again.
How dumb of me. The most complex things require the simplest solutions sometimes...
Well! Time for a really REALLY cool dice tower!!
Tumblr media
I'm printing the tower itself in FDM using the Anycubic Chiron, and the guardians on either side with resin, using the Anycubic Photon Zero. Yes, I still have that printer. Yes, it works like a gem. Yes, it's tiny as fuck, and I want an upgrade DESPERATELY!!!!

I designed a 3d-printed Art Deco style D20 life counter deck box as well as a D10 dice box inspired by the look of Streets of New Capenna. The D20 deck box fits a double sleeved commander deck of 100 cards as well as dice and counters. The D10 can be used as a box for dice and other nick-nacks. Both the deck box and  dice box are held closed securely by neodymium magnets.
You can find the STL-files to print these yourself in my Etsy shop.

I invited my friend (who happens to be visually impaired) to play D&D, only to realise there aren't any dice out there that can be enjoyed by both sighted and visually impaired and blind people! While there are braille dice out there, they're hard to read for sighted people and often kind of boring-looking. Visually impaired people with remaining vision can often still see some colour, sparkle and reflections so I wanted to be able to incorporate such sensations into the dice. I plan to mold the print and cast dice from it for my friend. About the tactile shapes: The bottom of the braille is indicated by a little bump in the recession of the dice faces. This way it's easy to feel what the correct orientation of the top face is. The percentile D10 has extra bumps on the bottom, to indicate the difference between the two D10s. The D4 of this set is crystal shaped, so that when the die is rolled and read, no pointy bits will harm your digits or make it tough to read. The braille used is the unified international braille. The numbers are represented by using letters from A to T on the tactile dice. Normally, the numbers in braille are indicated by letters A to J but to save space on the d20 and d12 faces, I chose to include more letters. About the numbered inserts: These shapes should fit exactly within the tactile braille shapes if you were to mold and cast dice from these prints. The font I used on the inserts is Middle Saxony Text. This is a font that's allowed to be used for private use only. There's both a supported and unsupported version of the dice included, for whatever suits your needs. In the future I will likely also design a little reference board for blind and visually impaired people that are new to reading braille and also to help the sighted people figure out what the result on the rolled tactile die is! If you are a dice maker and you want to make and/or sell dice made from molds which are in turn made from this file, please give credit where credit is due and tag @nocturnality.rpg on instagram. Also consider donating profits from your sales to charities that help blind and visually impaired people. https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-261599

these lil class tins are pretty cool tbh- considering getting a warlock/bard one as well but i had to get one for roark!
(the tins only come with the mini character sheet and tokens- the inset does have space for dice/a mini but the metal dice and foam inset are personally added, not sold that way)
