That would be your first Halloween party, or rather, the first big Halloween party you would ever go to. And obviously you weren't going alone, you were accompanied by your two best friends: Tanaka and Nishinoya. You had already agreed on your costumes and were eagerly awaiting the day. Finally, the night arrived. The boys would come by to pick you up, Tanaka's sister would give you a ride.
You were analyzing your costume in the mirror when you heard the horn and Tanaka shouting your name as if it were a heavy metal song. As quickly as could you went downstairs and left the house to receive the news that Nishinoya had suddenly become ill and couldn't go. Sad for your friend, but trying not to get discouraged for the party, you got into the car. Tanaka's sister greeted you excitedly, she loved you.
- Oh, how funny! Your costume matches! You guys look like a couple - she smiled innocently.
The idea of the costume together was for the three of you to go as Team Rocket, from "Pokémon", you would go as Jessie, Ryu as James and Nishi as Meowth. You looked beautiful in uniform and even managed to dye your hair pink with temporary dye. Tanaka also looked good in the uniform and even bought a wig to look more like the character. Nishinoya had sent you a photo of how the improvised costume turned out, to ask you for help, and he had looked really cute with the cat ears, as much as he hated you saying that. But in fact, analyzing the situation now, the fantasy of the two of you without the third member ended up looking like you wanted to make a fantasy of a couple and not of friends who just wanted to laugh a little.
- Saeko! I already said we are not a couple! Can you forget this idea?! - Ryu said a little excitedly.
- Don't talk like that, idiot! It will make your friend uncomfortable!
- You're making her uncomfortable!
Luckily, the awkward moment was left aside due to the brothers' silly fight that made you laugh in the end. It didn't take long to arrive at the party, it was at someone's house... That neither of you knew, but that wasn't important. Saeko agreed on the time she would pick you up and left, leaving the two of you standing looking at the decorated house, full of people you didn't know, suddenly seeming like a bad idea.
- If you don't want to, we don't need to go in, we can go somewhere else - Ryu said, taking your hand affectionately.
- No, I want to, I just... I'm taking my courage before going in - you laughed - this could be our chance to meet someone, right?
Tanaka let go of your hand and smiled in agreement, when you nodded saying you were ready, you entered the house. You stayed together for a while to explore the place and adapt, but it didn't take long for you to separate. Soon Ryu saw a pretty girl and said goodbye to you to try his luck, you smiled as you watched from afar, drinking from your glass distractedly, without even noticing the boy approaching you.
- Excuse me, can I ask your name?
After introducing yourself and the man saying he didn't know anyone with that name, he revealed to you that he was the owner of the party, you were apprehensive thinking that he was going to kick you out for being a gatecrasher, but that wasn't what happened, in reality he insisted that you stay.
- I'm happy to see a different face here, much more a face as beautiful as yours - he smiled - is that your boyfriend? - he pointed to Tanaka.
- Oh, no, he's just my friend.
- So I still have a chance? - he smiled at you and approached.
As you got closer you could smell the alcohol coming off him, you took a step back to discover that there was a wall right behind, cornering you and the stranger. You laughed uncomfortably but the conversation only went downhill after that. Talking about how he would like to go somewhere more private with you, to get to know you better, and getting closer each time.
- Look man, I'm not in the mood...
- Oh stop... I know very well why girls like you enter strangers' parties... I can give you everything you want - the smell of drink was starting to give you a headache.
- But I don't want anything! - you dodged him and tried to move away.
- But I want! - he shouted and pulled your wrist hard for you to come back.
- Take your hand off her! - an enraged voice shouted.
When you looked back, you found Ryu's staring at the boy who was bothering you, visibly irritated. The boy turned to face your friend better, a disdainful look appearing on his face.
- What was it man? Go back there with the girl you were with and leave us alone, can't you see we're talking?
- No, I just see an asshole bothering my friend who has already made it clear that she doesn't want anything - he approached - And I already told you to let her go!
Ryu forced the guy to let go of your wrist, taking the opportunity to stay between the two of you, you staying behind him, Tanaka lifting his chin at the guy, ready to start a fight.
- You weren't even supposed to be here! Didn't you want to have fun? Let's have fun! - he tried to advance towards you but Ryu pushed him away.
- If this bothers you so much then we let's go, enjoy your shitty party, you son of a bitch!
Tanaka took your hand after saying "let's go", turning his back to the guy and leaving the place without thinking twice, not even giving you time to intervene, visibly altered. As he left the house he began to curse under his breath, no longer pulling you but still holding your hand.
- Ryu, why did you do that? And the girl you were with?
- To the hell with the girl! My concern was you! - he replied without even thinking - Do you think I would allow this guy to... That I would allow... I hate that bastard! - he released your hand and angrily kicked a trash can that was in front of the house.
Ryu sat on the curb, still irritated. You sat next to him, silently, waiting for him to calm down. After a while, he relaxed his fists and sighed.
- Are you well? Did he hurt you? -vhe asked looking at you.
- No, he just pulled my wrist, but it was nothing - you showed him, the area was a little red.
- I'm sorry, I should have arrived earlier... It wasn't supposed to be like this, it was supposed to be a nice party for both of us...
- Hey, let's not let that idiot ruin the night, we can still do something else.
- Yes, we can... And I had an idea.
You knew that smile very well, the smile that he was about to get into trouble. Ryu and you walked around the outside of the house, your friend asked you to wait while he looked for some stones, when he came back he gave you one.
- There, that window must be the one in his room, you can do the honors - he said pointing.
- You want me to break his window?!
- The windows... - he emphasized - It's Halloween, trick-or-treating season and since we don't have "tricks"...
- Let's do "treating" - you completed.
- Exactly - he smiled.
Looking at the window, wondering if it was really a good idea, you remembered the shit the party owner had told you. The discomfort you felt at the moment turning into anger. Without further hesitation, you aimed and threw the rock, hitting the window, Ryu shouted excitedly next to you "Yeah!" and threw a stone too. You smiled, loving how he made you feel free to do whatever you wanted.

summary: gundham is certain you cursed him! how else could he explain those odd feelings he gets around you?
Tumblr media
“you cursed me!”
you looked up at your classmate, his face mostly covered by his scarf, but you could still see a hint of his pink cheeks behind it.
“no matter how hard i try, you're always on my mind. tell me, what kind of spell did you use on me, witch?”
if it had been any other guy, you would've scolded him for calling you a witch. but this was gundham in front of you. you were used to his mannerisms by now and you knew that he meant no harm.
“gundham…”
you couldn't help but grin.
“i didn't curse you. could it be that… you have a crush on me?”
the boys eyes widened and the pink from his cheeks spread further across his face. he clenched his scarf, quietly mumbling to himself.
“no, impossible. i– i could never fall in love. nevertheless with a mere mortal!”
you smiled softly as you watched the boy struggle so much with his feelings for you. despite that, you were convinced that at least a part of him was aware that he liked you. otherwise he wouldn't have confronted you just now, right?

It wasn’t even four minutes after your last class got out for the day before he texted you. Even though you’d been expecting it, seeing it brought a smile to your face.
-him: “how was class?”
-him:  “you fell asleep again didn’t you”
Despite the way your heart sped up at the texts you couldn’t stop from rolling your eyes, of course he’d say something like that.
-you: “no you weirdo i watched every second of the boring lecture”
-you: “give me some credit.”
-him: “mhm sure”
-him: “whatever you say”
-him: “call me i miss you”
Your heart jumped for what felt like the hundredth time on the short walk across campus, his text shouldn’t have come as a surprise to you.
He didn’t give you enough time to process what he said though. Your phone lit up with his name, not even a full minute after.
“I’m sorry, I don’t answer solicitors.” You said, trying your best to sound disappointed as you answered the call.
“Oh, well this is awkward then, I was going to try to sell you some insurance.” He paused for a second and you had to stop yourself from laughing at that, “Another time maybe?”
“For sure.” You rolled your eyes at that, smiling even more than you had before. “You back at your apartment yet?”
“You ruined the bit!” The groan sounding through the phone was obviously forced, you could almost hear the smile hiding in it. “But yeah, I got back a while ago, finished all my homework right on campus so I’m bored.”
“Oh, that’s why you’re calling me then? You’re bored?”
“Yup. Needed someone to bother.” His laugh was bright as it echoed through you phone and it sounded just as good as it usually did.
“Oh, you must have some pretty good luck then, it just so happens that I don’t have any homework left too.” You mused, knowing exactly where this was leading.
“Oh, so you’re coming over then?”
“Are you asking me to come over?” You mocked trying to mimic the same tone he had, you had already started walking towards his place.
“Mmm, I don’t think it’s an option actually.” His answer was laced with a bit more of serious now, as if he thought you’d think it was a joke. “Grab some dinner for us? I’m seriously lacking on groceries right now, I’ll venmo you.”
“You’re always lacking on groceries, what’s new?”
You had to laugh at that, the amount of times you’d been grocery shopping with him always resulting in nothing.
“Yeah yeah, I’ll see you soon.” You could almost hear him rolling his eyes through the phone at that.
“Okay, see you soon. I’m staying the night by the way.”
“I’d expect nothing less.” His voice softened at that and it warmed your chest. “That wasn’t an option either.”

pairing: tanaka x fem!reader
summary: your brother asked you to help motivate tanaka to study for his upcoming exam. so you decide to make a bet with him.
word count: 2,924
notes: hey hey hey! i've been working on this oneshot for a couple of days now and it's finally finished... yay! anyway, i hope you like it. would you like a part two? enjoy!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“Wha- what?” Tanaka stumbled back with wide eyes, not believing what just came out of your mouth. “You’ll go out with me?”
A smirk curved on your lips and you nodded, crossing your arms. "Yeah, I will. But only if you score at least 80 points in our English exam this week.”
Tanaka smugly smiled and puffed out his chest. “Consider it done-”
“But if not,” you said, amusement covering your features, “you’re gonna shave your head.”
The teenager visibly tensed and gulped. He eyed you briefly before clearing his throat and smiling confidently. “Deal,” he shook your hand, “I’ll pick you up at two on Saturday.”
You let out an amused chuckle and pulled your hand back, “let’s talk about this after you passed the test.”
Tanaka nodded, the smug smile never leaving his face, as you turned on your heels and walked to your class.
Your brother had asked you to help motivate Tanaka to pass his test since they needed him in an upcoming practice match; if he wouldn’t pass, he had to retake the test on the day of the match. And the team couldn’t do without the first year.
So you decided to use the painfully obvious fact that he had a crush on you to your advantage and fire him up a bit. And to make sure he really gave it his all and passed the test, you raised the point score to 80 even though he only needed 60 to actually pass. And it worked out just fine.
You slightly shook your head with a small smile as you sat down on your seat. What an idiot.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
After classes, Kiyoko and your brother approached you in the hallway, your brother with a concerned and confused look on his face.
All of the other first years in the hallway stopped for a second to look at the two second year beauties walking up to you. If there had been anyone who didn’t know that you had an older brother they did now; the two of you could be easily mistaken as  twins. You had the same warm brown eyes and silver hair as him. The only thing differentiating you two was the beauty mark that only your brother had and the length of your hair. You two even had the same healing smile.
“Oh my, how come the two most beautiful beings on earth have decided to bless me with their presence today?” You put a hand on your chest and playfully bow your head to them. “Do you require my help at practice again?”
Kiyoko’s cheeks turned pink and she sent you a small smile while your brother smacked the back of your head, “I told you to stop this.”
You turned away from them and let out a cough to hide the laugh escaping your lips. Your brother had always had a teeny tiny crush on Kiyoko and you knew for a fact that she was also crushing on your brother. She had told you so a few weeks ago while the two of you were filling up the team’s water bottles.
You turned back to the two second years and cleared your throat briefly, “so then, what’s up? Don’t you have practice now?” You weren’t an official member of the volleyball club, but since you weren’t in any other club either, you agreed to occasionally help Kiyoko when she asked you to.
“You tell me,” Koshi said and crossed his arms, “why is Tanaka asking for my blessing to marry you?”
You almost dropped the papers in your hand. “He what?! Has he lost his mind entirely now?!”
Your brother let out a sigh and shook his head. You could very much imagine that he was already so done with the chaotic first year and his equally chaotic friend Nishinoya.
“Seriously though, I’m used to him obviously crushing on you but what the heck did you do to him?”
You let out an awkward chuckle and shifted your weight on your left leg. This came as a surprise. Your intention was to merely motivate the boy to study but somehow this escalated more than you expected it to. “You told me to motivate him to study.”
“Yeah exactly. To study, not to marry you.” Koshi ran a hand over his face and let out a sigh. “Well, at least he seemed overly motivated to reach his delusions.”
You let out a giggle, “yeah, he seems too delusional for his own good sometimes.”
“And you’re feeding into them,” Koshi said and flicked your forehead, “I’ll see you at home.” He passed you and Kiyoko sent you a small wave to which you grinned and waved back.
I need to get them together or else they never will, these idiots. You looked over your shoulder until they were out of sight with a soft smile. Letting out a sigh, you turned back around only to come face to face with a grinning Tanaka.
A gasp escaped your lips and you took a step back. “Jeez, you can’t just sneak up on me like that, Tanaka.”
“Call me Ryu,” he said and took the papers out of your hand with a proud smile on his face. “Now where to, (Y/N)?”
You shook your head with an amused smile. Crossing your arms, you raised an eyebrow, “idiot, these are mine, I’ll take them home.”
Pink dusted his cheeks and he gave the papers back to you, clearing his throat.
You giggled behind your back, “you’re such a dork, but thanks for wanting to help.” You passed him but looked over your shoulder before turning the corner with a smile, “don’t forget to study, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
His face lit up and he nodded eagerly, making you chuckle as you left the school building.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“(Y/N)!”
You hadn’t even completely stepped out of your classroom, when Tanaka’s loud and excited voice reached you. You stopped and waited for him to reach you.
“I passed!” He almost shoved the paper he was holding into your face, making you take a step back.
With a quickly beating heart you took the paper out of his hand and looked it over. You could almost feel your face falling but you quickly put on a proud smile. You hummed and nodded, looking up at his happy face.
It had been two weeks since the two of you made the bet and Tanaka had approached you everyday before and after classes, telling you how much he studied and what places and activities he had looked up for the date. On one hand, you found it cute when he gave you a list of over a dozen things he had scribbled down for you to choose the three best from; but on the other hand, you weren’t sure if you chose the right way to motivate him since he seemed to invest his time in other things than into studying.
But you were pleasantly surprised to say the least, not having expected him to score so high. Even if a small part of you had hoped he would.
“So, have you picked something you want to do? I’ll pick you up at two on Saturday.”
Your heart sank. Gulping, you raised the exam paper and turned it around for him to see before pointing at the score. “You see this? 77 points. You lost.”
“What?!” He stumbled back with wide eyes. He snatched the paper out of your hands, holding it in both hands as his eyes frantically scanned over the paper.
Passing students were eying you and whispering among each other. You were fully aware that it’s been like this for the last two weeks but you paid them no mind at all.
Letting out a sigh you took a step closer to Tanaka, “hey, you passed the test, that’s the most important thing. And…” you took a breath, briefly glancing at his hair before sending him a reassuring smile, “you don’t need to-”
You stopped and blinked dumbfoundedly when he ran off without saying a word. “What?” you whispered to yourself, knitting your eyebrows, watching him sped off. Your shoulders dropped. Oh come on.
Tanaka’s reaction had taken over your mind for the rest of the day and you couldn’t simply take it anymore when you heard your brother enter his room.
You practically threw the covers back and jumped off your bed, rushing to your brother’s room, barging in.
Koshi flinched and turned around in a flash. He let out a sigh of relief when he saw that it was only you. A smile formed on his lips, “Tanaka passed the test, maybe you should motivate him more often from now on.”
“Did he say anything else?”
Koshi knitted his eyebrows and slightly tilted his head to the side. “No… why?”
You let out a breath and nodded, wanting to close the door again but you stopped and smiled innocently at your brother. “Do you have his number by any chance?”
Your brother narrowed his eyes. “Why would you want his number now?”
“He seemed… off today. I just wanted to check on him,” you shook your head and lowered your voice, “nevermind, that’s stupid.” You quickly left your brother’s room with a sigh. What am I even thinking?!
Deciding to distract yourself with some reading, you climbed on your bed but no matter how many times you tried to start the page over, the words just didn’t make sense.
“What’s wrong with me out of a sudden?” A frustrated groan left your lips. Putting the book on the nightstand, you completely got under the covers and let out a deep breath.
When your pillow vibrated you quickly pulled out your phone, squinting your eyes at the brightness until you turned it down to the lowest level. A bright smile grew on your lips when you opened your brother’s text message.
XXX XXXX XXX I think he’d appreciate you checking on him more than you think ;)
Without wasting any more time other than reacting to the message with too many heart emojis than necessary, you immediately called the number.
On the third ring, you froze in your place, realization hitting you so hard that your stomach painfully tightened. Just as Tanaka picked up the call but before he could speak, you ended the call with heavy breaths, pressing the phone on your chest.
“Shit,” you whispered, putting the phone on the nightstand and rushing out of your room to get yourself a glass of water. “How was I so dumb? And I called my brother stupid,” you facepalmed, grabbing your hair into your hand.
All the times that Tanaka made a stupid joke, you found them hilarious, finding yourself still thinking about them days after he told them. Every time he approached you, butterflies filled your stomach, excited about him talking to you, even if it was a simple “good morning (Y/N)-chan”. Every time he smiled at you, your heart skipped a beat. And on top of that, even if you didn’t admit it to yourself, you were disappointed that he lost the bet.
“Did he answer?”
Your head snapped up only to see your brother’s smiling face. “I didn’t call him. Why would I call him? Why would you even think that?”
Without waiting for an answer you left a flabbergasted Koshi behind, rushing into your room, hiding under the covers from the world.
I like Tanaka Ryunosuke.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The next day, you avoided Tanaka like a pest. You decided to go to school at the last minute just to be able to walk through empty hallways as everyone was already in class. Your breaks and free periods were spent either in the bathroom or in the furthest corner in the library where no one would come by anyway.
When the bell rang, signalling the end of the day, a sigh of relief left your lips. Not until everyone had left, did you start packing your things up and leaving the classroom. You looked left and right and when no one was in sight, you hurried out of the building.
A relieved smile grew on your lips when you finally got out of the school building and you almost thought you would be successful until Kiyoko came into your sight.
The manager shot you a small smile, coming to a stop in front of you. “(Y/N)-chan, are you free?”
A brief moment of silence passed by, you hesitating whether to agree or to fake an urgent appointment. Letting out a breath, you decided on the former and nodded. Why do I have to like her that much?
“Great,” she nodded,  “I could use your help with a few boxes. We need to carry them to the club room and the boys are busy.”
“Sure,” a teasing smile grew on your lips and you winked, “everything for my future sister-in-law.”
Her cheeks tinted red and she turned around quickly with you hot on her heels. Upon reaching the stairs leading to the club room, Kiyoko looked over her shoulder. “There are two boxes left in the gym,” she said and picked up one of the few boxes at the bottom of the stairs, “can you get them? I’ll take care of these here.”
You gulped, your eyes flickering to the few boxes on the floor before looking at Kiyoko who was already going up the stairs. You let out a defeated sigh and slowly made your way to the gym. Please let me fall down and break my ankle.
You immediately dismissed the thought, knowing if that really happened you would only get a lot of unwanted attention from everyone. Damn, maybe I should just make a run for it.
Upon arriving at the gym, you took a deep breath and cleared your throat silently. Nodding to yourself, you put your hand on the doorknob when you stopped in your tracks.
Someone was laughing his ass off and it definitely sounded like Nishinoya but you could also make out your brother’s confused voice. "What happened to your-"
"I lost a bet."
Your whole body tensed when Tanaka’s voice reached your ears. Gulping, you bit the inside of your cheek. Did he shave his head?!
"Why-"
"I don't want to talk about it."
You couldn’t take it anymore and curiosity got the better of you, shoving your hesitation and all the other thoughts to the back of your mind. You entered the gym and froze when you saw Tanaka. Instead of his blond hair covering his head, a buzz cut took its place instead, showing his real hair colour. Oh my, this looks so good.
All the heads snapped to you when the door shut. Heat rushed to your face and you nervously smiled. “Hi,” you slightly bowed your head, “I just wanted to get the boxes.”
Tashiro, the volleyball club’s captain, nodded and looked at Tanaka. “You were late, go and help (Y/N),” he nodded at your direction
The first year nodded and lowered his head before he took one of the two boxes that were right beside the gym’s door. You gulped and bit the inside of your cheek before quickly following his lead. You shot the captain and your brother a quick smile over your shoulder before leaving the gym.
Silence consumed the two of you for a brief moment and you couldn’t keep your mouth shut anymore.
“You really shaved your head?!” you blurted out.
Tanaka stopped in his tracks and blushed. He lowered his gaze. “I lost the bet, didn’t I?” he mumbled.
“Oh my god, you didn’t have to actually do it,” you stopped as well and looked at him with wide eyes. “I only wanted you to pass the test!”
“I know, thanks,” he said and continued his way to the club room. “I wanted to cut it anyway. Blond looks ridiculous on me and no one ever told me,” he grinned.
You slightly smiled, glad that it wasn’t as awkward between you as you expected it to be. “I think this hairstyle looks better on you,” you quietly admitted.
Tanaka immediately stopped in his tracks and looked at you with wide eyes, his face lighting up. “Really?!”
Heat rushed to your face and you looked away from him, walking ahead.
He quickly caught up to you, “so, you’ll still go out with me?”
Your heart almost leapt out of your chest when the words left your mouth without even thinking about them. “Well, you passed the test and thus the purpose of the bet,” you shrugged and gulped, “so you kinda won.”
Tanaka dropped the box on the ground. “Is that a yes?!”
You bit the inside of your cheek and slowly nodded. He immediately took the box out of your hand and almost threw it on the ground before pulling you in a hug and spinning you around.
A squeal left your lips and he let you down. “(Y/N)-chan you are the best!” He pressed your cheeks together with the palm of his hands, having your lips turn to a pout. “I love you!”
He pulled his hands away from your face and ran towards the gym, leaving you behind with a red face and the boxes still on the ground. “Oi, Tanaka!” you called after him but he was already too far away to hear you. With a smile on your face you shook your head and picked up one of the boxes. This adorable idiot.

Nagito Komaeda
It all happened so fast. You’d begged them not to do it. It didn’t need to go down that way. This never would’ve happened if they’d just listened to you.
It all happened so fast. One second your friends, your best and only friends, were piling onto your boyfriend, pinning him to the ground of the hotel lobby and the next, the world became an explosion of fiery red. A loud blast rang in your ears like a flash bomb or a gunshot fired off right beside your head without protective equipment. Kazuichi went flying, the back of Akane’s clothes were aflame. Fuyuhiko took on an expression you’d never thought you’d see from the resident tough guy of the group: eyes wide in genuine terror, mouth agape as he dove forward and away from the blast.
You begged them not to do this. Don’t corner him. Don’t force his hand. You knew him better than anyone else. And they didn’t listen to you.
You’d all grouped up before hand (minus Nagito of course) to discuss what to do about him. He was getting more and more unhinged as the days went on. Before the funhouse, everyone except for you saw him as a bit crazy, a nuisance, a freak but safe at a distance. Now… he was clearly a danger to himself and others. He knew something you all didn’t, and it was sending him into the self righteous hope power trip of the century. Something was so very different from the Nagito you knew and loved.
You’d warned them that it wouldn’t be like last time. He wouldn’t submissively let them tie him up in the old building and wait to be fed or released by Monomi. He was on the warpath now. You knew him. Once he got an idea in his head, that was it.
Fuyuhiko and Kazuichi had dismissed you immediately. You loved him. You’d do anything to protect that freak. They weren’t gonna heed your warning, because at the end of the day, you cared about him just a little more than you cared about the rest of them. Hajime and Sonia, even Chiaki - the more compassionate members of the group - had looked at you with pity in their eyes. They knew the last thing you wanted was to see your boyfriend tied up or hurt, and they felt for you, but at this point, the main focus had to be figuring out who put them on this island so they could escape, and preventing more death. Nagito was getting in the way of that. He needed to be restrained.
You never thought it would be like this, though. You knew he’d retaliate this time, that he’d resist, but maybe in the form of a struggle with his attacker: a punch, a kick, running away, hiding… not a fucking bomb.
As the explosion rang out from behind you, sending you leaping forward defensively, the world seemed to move in slow motion.
How could he do this? It’s one thing to fight off those who are actively trying to subdue you, but to blow up the entire hotel? He was really willing to hurt or even kill everyone too close to the blast, even those with little to nothing to do with the plan? What about you, who he claimed to love, who was his shining hope, who had been the only one in his corner at all times? He was willing to just blow you away as well?
Time sped up again, and you sat with your legs crossed in the rubble, ash and sweat smearing your skin. You just sat there, breaths hitching in your throat as you held back tears that threatened to fall. It felt like you were in a trance as you sat and thought this all over. Nevermind the flames at your back or smoke in the air. Why, why, why???
It wasn’t the little bit of blood running down your arm or the ringing in your ears that broke through your haze, but the clap of a hand on your shoulder blade. You turned and looked up at Hajime, dust in his hair and a cut on his cheek. The white uniform shirt he always wore was stained up and torn in one area.
“Hey, (Y-Y/N)!” He coughed, soot in his throat. “Are you alright? Come on, we gotta get out of here! Smoke’s not-” a beam collapsed behind him, startling him as he hooked his hands under your armpits and lifted you from your seated position. “Come on, this smoke’ll kill you!” You stood with his help, still halfway in a state of shock, and in truth embarrassment that the one you constantly defended from your group of peers had done all this…
“Is everyone…” you spoke weakly, your mind flashing to the safety of your friends.
“Everyone else is out. They’re safe, let’s go!” Hajime guided you out the way he came in looking for you, past a flipped couch and under a fallen beam. Once out in the fresh air, you regrouped with the rest, all in various states of shaken up.
Sonia immediately rushed over to you, ripping the red bow tie from her neck and dabbing the cut on your arm with the fabric before wrapping it around the wound. You thanked her with a nod. Akane, usually a bit scantily-clad anyway, had most of her remaining clothes singed off or torn. She looked more defeated then you’d seen her since Nekomaru’s death. She’d probably bounce right back soon though, knowing her. Fuyuhiko looked more pissed than usual, sitting by the pool alone. Kazuichi was being tended to by Chiaki. You overheard her saying Monomi would be bringing medical supplies and helping transport those seriously injured to the hospital for a quick check up. The students protested, however, wanting to stick together in the resort and heal up in their cabins. Your eyes bounced around the group, looking for someone in particular, though you didn’t know why.
Why? Were you truly that delusional? You must’ve been under some type of love hex. Had you Stockholm Syndrome’d yourself into being blind to his every fault? You couldn’t help it - you couldn’t deny the feelings you retained.
“Where’s…?” Your words faded off, thinking better of it. Maybe this was the wrong time. They probably didn’t want to hear about the dude who just tried to send them on a one way trip to heaven. It was too late, your words had been picked up by Fuyuhiko’s relatively undamaged ears.
“Are you fuckin’ kidding me?” He scoffed, yelling over from the pool. “He ran off as soon as he got the chance. Didn’t waste a second to make sure you were okay. You’re still worried about that asshole? He just tried to fucking kill us! You must be as crazy as him. I’m starting to think so, at this point…”
“Fuyuhiko…” Sonia warned, a small frown creasing her porcelain face. Fuyuhiko sighed deeply, backing off the attack. He didn’t mean that last bit, he was just frustrated. He threw in the towel, too tired to continue putting up a fight. The old Fuyuhiko would've laid into you a little longer. True to his word, he was a changed man. He shook his head and went silent, disappointed in you to say the least.
You were a bit disappointed in yourself as well, frankly. Why did you still want to see him so badly, to make sure he wasn’t hurt, to make sure he knew you still cared? You didn’t know what you’d even do if you saw him again. The mix of fear, confusion and foolish adoration was potent within you right now.
After assessing everyone’s needs and injuries, it was decided that you all were to go to your cabins and rest for the night. Tomorrow, you would go as a group to the new island unguarded by its Monobeast and resume the search for the truth and freedom.
“Everyone just… yell as loud as you can, or run out of your cabin and alert the others if… if anything happens,” He looked you in the eyes as he spoke those last few words. Hajime chose the phrasing carefully but you all knew what he meant:
If Nagito came around looking to further this deranged and deadly plan of his.
They said as he ran off he was blabbering on, yelling about the “end of Jabberwock Island” and such. It was pretty clear to the entire group that whatever he had in mind would mean chaos and peril for everyone still left alive.
~
Now back in your cabin, the sun had long since set as you continued to pace back and forth across the floor, from the full length mirror on your sliding closet door, to the entrance, then over to the small bathroom area and back again. You’d not even taken the time to shower and change your clothes. You were still a mess, your thoughts too busy to care about the blood and grime coating you.
Your mind raced, taking in everything that had happened so far in this nightmare of a class trip, taking in everything that could happen fairly soon.
Your mind bounced to Nagito, purposely being coy when you all needed his mind desperately during trials.
To Nagito, who actively tried to hurt someone in the very first trial, who offered to help a blackened if they ever needed him.
To Nagito, who held you close at nights and who you could open up to for hours. The same Nagito who you’d fallen for, body and mind, and who now was an object of fear and anxiety for you.
Were you really scared of him now…? Your Nagito?
A quiet knock at your door shook you out of your pacing routine. You figured it was Hajime, arranging another group meeting or maybe sweet Sonia coming to check up on you. Rushing to the door, you opened it just a crack and peeked out.
Your blood ran cold, a shiver shot down your spine. You’d never reacted to seeing him like this before. Not even close.
“Hello there, (Y/N). Oh wow, you look awful…” Nagito smiled gently at first, then the corners of his mouth slightly drooped, downturned at the state of you. You looked yourself up and down once quickly, now acknowledging that you had in fact forgotten to wash up, overwhelmed by the day. A moment passed with your heart beat picking up quickly, and you began to merely stare at him silently through the crack, unsure of how to proceed. Should you scream? Should you warn the others? Even if Nagito wouldn’t hurt you, what if he made his rounds to the other cabins and hurt the others? He wouldn’t hurt you, right? That assumption of yours was correct, right? You weren’t so sure anymore. “Well, are you gonna just stand there or are you gonna let me in?” He smiled innocently again before pushing his way past you and into the expanse of your personalized cabin. Your safe space.
“Nagito…” You let yourself exhale the breath you’d been holding in, turning to close the cabin door behind him. You hesitated on the door knob, contemplating making a break for it right then and there. “What are you doing here?” You tried to keep your voice steady and even, even as your chest thumped.
“What?” His brow furrowed, rounding on you as you closed shut the door and turned to face him. “What do you mean? I always hang out with you here!” Was he just not going to acknowledge today, when you literally could’ve died due to his actions? “I kinda missed it, you know, the smell of your cabin, your smell. Being in the funhouse all those days was such a bummer.” Approaching you in two strides of his long slender legs, he took you tightly into his arms, nevermind the dirt and ash that transferred from your clothes to his.
“N-Nagi-” your words were muffled into the fabric of his green jacket, and for a moment your spine stiffened, not sure how to receive the hug. You corrected yourself though, and relaxed, embracing him back. Nagito was volatile right now, extremely unstable, and you didn’t want to be perceived as disloyal, untrusting. Nothing to trigger him. He was clingy and needy with you quite often and that part you didn’t mind. You cared for him the way he was… but who he was had slowly been changing. Ever since he entered that damned Final Dead Room.
Nagito didn’t miss a thing, however, and you knew that. Your hesitation to hug him back made a blip on his radar.
“Is everything alright? How is my little ray of hope tonight?” He pulled back a bit, holding you at arm’s length to observe your features closely. This was so uncomfortable: the scrutinizing gaze, the sorry state of your body at that very moment, the sweat that began to bead on your forehead.
“Well, Nagito, you…” you wanted to soften the blow, and so took the initiative to this time hug him first, leaning your head onto his chest. This is what he wanted, right? Play along, don’t slip up. It’s funny, when your head rested flat against him and you inhaled his familiar scent, you felt that warm feeling that made you fall for him for just a second, until you began to finish your thought. “... today… earlier today… why did you do that? I mean… how could you, to me of all people? What if… I mean what if that explosion killed me?” Your heart beat sped up.
“Oh, silly, it wouldn’t have!” He replied as if the answer were obvious. “You’re my shining hope, my everything, and that bomb was only intended to disrupt the plans of those who were there to trap me! I was one step ahead my love. You were never in any true danger.” Ironic, as he ran a hand up and down the arm with the deep cut on it.
“Well, how would you know for sure? What if I were standing where Kazuichi was? He got the brunt of it…” you asked, but you knew whatever answer he had for you wouldn’t calm your aching heart.
“I relied on my luck, of course! It’s all I have to rely on now: you, and this useless ‘talent’ of mine.” His tone was bittersweet. His luck? He really left your safety up to his luck? Sure, you’d never seen it fail him before, but seriously…
“About that… Nagito,” you pulled away, expectantly unsatisfied with his reply and no less terrified of the inner workings of the man in front of you, “what’s made you feel this way, all of a sudden? Sure, our classmates were a little wary of you, but we were friends, all of us. You had them, too. What changed? In the funhouse you - well ever since the Final Dead Room, you’ve changed. In the trial, you said you’d learned about Hajime and how he doesn’t have an ultimate talent, and the secret behind the funhouse’s design… but there’s more you aren’t telling us… I can feel it.” Walking over to a chair beside your bed, you sat down, wrapping your arms around your middle defensively. You felt small and vulnerable under his gaze, which followed you like a hawk.
He didn’t like hearing that - that he’d changed - not from you. You were the only one exempt from his plans, even if you didn’t know it at the time. He loved you and you loved him, and he didn’t want anything to change about that. This couldn’t be just another thing that his miserable life ruined for him. For now, he ignored it, deciding that maybe letting you, the only one he could truly trust, in on his little plan would ease your mind and bring you back to him whole.
“You’re right as usual, my love.” He stood in the center of the room, gesturing as he began to get off of his chest all that he’d gleaned from his time in the funhouse. “How perceptive of you. My little hope is so incredibly smart. It’s one of the reasons I know you’ll guide this useless pack of idiots, including myself, to the highest potential our negligible little lives could ever reach!” How could you have guessed at that time that he meant when he and all the rest he deemed unfit were long gone, wiped from this world by his own will? “I’ll let you in on it, if my little bird promises not to chirp to the rest of the flock, of course…” He grinned at you as if he were a mischievous little kid about to announce a school prank and not a man dead set on getting his classmates killed. You nodded instinctively, not prepared at all for what you were about to hear. “Well it’s quite simple, really. We’ve known about the existence of a traitor for awhile now, right? We thought this entire time that the one of us who was not like the others was to blame for this entire thing, that the despair that ensnared us and caused death after death was caused by this ‘traitor’, right?” You nodded again, wanting desperately to appease him in any way you could. “Well, we couldn’t have had it more wrong, and as my reward for winning the ultimate roulette in the Final Dead Room, I was allowed this knowledge to share - or not share - as I please.” He was smirking now and your heartbeat began to pick up once again. You did not like that look in his eye. The pale planes of his cheeks began to get rosy with that self-satisifed expression he often donned when he knew his plans for hope were on track.
“W-what do you mean, Nagito?” Your voice shook and you sat up in your chair, shifting uncomfortably in place, a motion he noticed immediately. Again, he didn’t appreciate that reaction from you one bit. Why were you so uneasy around him tonight? His mind couldn’t comprehend it.
“Turns out, this whole time,” he held his arms out to each side as if surrendering himself to the powers that be, “It was us! We were the wicked ones. We were the despair, the disgusting evil that clouded all hope.” He began to chuckle at the irony that only he understood in his words. “This ‘traitor’ is the only one who can stop us! They are meant to save the world from the plague of our very existence!” He began to chuckle, a devious and unstable sound emanating from his core.
“H-how could you mean - I mean… Nagito, how could we be evil? Why would you think that? We have been working together to stop Monokuma this whole time. It couldn’t be -”
“Does it really matter how? It’s the truth! I know it is!” He cut you off, startling you as he approached and sank to his knees in front of your chair. Leaning in, he took your hand in his clammy, translucent one. He kissed the tops of your knuckles sweetly - a gesture he often did when you were alone together - and you went rigid, unsettled by his manic words. Another reaction he frowned at. “I mean, you believe me, don’t you? Have I ever been wrong before? Every time I tell you who the blackened is, I’m right! Every mystery I’ve uncovered on this island, every deduction I’ve shared with you and only you, has been correct! Every time I’ve been ‘wrong’ to them, I’ve chosen to play dumb. I’ve never lied to you, I wouldn’t!” He looked frantic, his eyes darting back and forth between yours. When you didn’t reply, he continued. “The traitor, they are the one, true hope for our vile and corrupted lot!” He smiled, again, as if this were the obvious conclusion one should draw from his words, but you just couldn’t see your friends as the monsters he portrayed them as. You couldn’t even see him that way. It just didn’t make sense. Maybe whatever he read in the Final Dead Room was just more lies, planted by Monokuma as a motive to sow more division. Nagito was too smart to fall for that…
“So, what is the solution, then… your plan?” You were almost too afraid to ask, having a good idea of what it would be. His frenzied grin softened into a straight and very serious line. You felt your stomach twist itself into knots.
“Well… we have to go, of course. All of us, except for the traitor.” He stated plainly. Eyes widening just a tick before going neutral again, you tried not to convey the abject fear in your heart. “We all have to die, it’s the only way. The traitor will go on, as the only ray of hope we have left.” With that, you yanked your hand from his grip, and his eye twitched in response.
He was willing to kill you all? All of your peers, your innocent peers who had been through so much already, together… snuff them out just like that?
“Nagito… you know who the traitor is, then…?” His head tilted at that, like a curious puppy confused at his owner’s words. “The one you’re going to spare, you know who it is?” Did it even matter anymore? At this point, the Nagito you loved was long gone. You needed to warn the others. His answer mattered to you personally, nonetheless. Your brow furrowed, your psyche overstimualted by this entire conversation. You pressed him. “Nagito… you know who the traitor is, right?” A little sterner this time, you waited for an answer that would never come. Almost as if he were too prideful, or maybe too ashamed to admit he would have to rely on his luck yet again to meet his goals, he ignored your question.
Chills running throughout your body, you quickly shot up out of the chair. Standing abruptly and causing the slender man to stumble back a bit, you steadied your shaking hands by balling them into fist at your side.
“(Y/N) -” Nagito began as he stood to meet you. Why were you acting like this? Didn’t you have the same goals as him? Didn’t you see the necessity of this plan? Didn’t you love him as much as he loved you? Didn’t you know that know that you - his unbreakable hope - the only pure thing on this miserable island, had to be the traitor? How could it be anyone else? He couldn’t be one hundred percent sure, as the file in the Final Dead Room didn’t name you specifically, but it just had to be you. It had to be. He would delude himself until his last breath.
“O-okay, Nagito, I agree! Yes, y-you’re right of course!” Play along, (Y/N), play along, your survival instincts screamed at you internally. Now it was Nagito’s heart that began to beat fast. He could sense a lie a mile away, and you knew that. Was he truly losing you? “Tell you what, let me shower, I can’t stand this filth on me for one more second.” You forced a nervous chuckle. “After that, I’ll meet you somewhere, um… away from the cabins so the others don’t find out, and we can discuss this further.” In reality, you were hoping that as you showered, he would leave to find a meeting place so that you could run to the other cabins and warn the others. He took a step toward you, and you took a step back in turn. He cringed at that, a hand reaching out weakly for your touch. It fell to his side when you backed away until your back was at the bathroom door and you reached behind you for the handle. “Okay? You go scope out a safe place for us to meet!” You looked for confirmation, fake smile still plastered across your face until your jaw hurt from clenching so hard.
“Okay, (Y/N)...” his heart broke at your willingness to lie straight to his face. You’d never done that before. You would always be honest with him, even with the silliest thoughts. You nodded in reassurance, slipping into the mini bathroom afforded to you by Monokuma and closing the door. It was a modest thing, a small alcove in each cabin with merely a shower stall, sink with a mirror, and toilet all snug into one tiny area. You undressed like the wind, ready to take the quickest shower of your life. Just a rinse for the blood and dirt, running the water long enough to be convincing and you were out. You needed time to run to at least a few of your classmates' cabins before Nagito got back. Whoever you got to first could spread the word. You slid the glass shower stall door open and jumped inside, not even waiting for the water to warm up.
Soaking yourself promptly, you began to scrub off the day you’d had with a small wash cloth nearby. Mere minutes into your shower, you heard the small bathroom door slam open. Freezing instantly, you halted all motion and stared at the figure in the doorway that was a blurry mess of greens, creams and whites through the frosted glass of the shower door. Without a word, the figure approached the shower door and you felt your body go into fight or flight mode, adrenaline kicking into high gear.
This was it… you thought. You were sure that if you were the traitor, you would’ve known. The traitor was still out there, hiding their identity, and now Nagito was going to do exactly what he said he was going to do. You had to go… hope for the world was the end goal that superseded romantic feelings. Your life flashed before your eyes, and you thought of your friends, and how you failed to save them.
Nagito threw open the sliding door, and you fell back against the beige tile behind you, hands flying up to protect your head and face. You didn’t know how he would kill you, but braced for an expected blow. Exposed, defenseless and naked, vital organs unprotected, you began to sob.
“No! Nagito, please!” You screamed at the top of your lungs as he entered the shower stall in a panic, clothes and all. He clapped one cold hand over your mouth, a hand that was shaking. Instantly, tears sprang forth from his own eyes. Were you really that scared of him?
“No, don’t scream, please! Please, (Y/N)!” He released your mouth, throwing his arms around your shoulders in a crushing embrace. The shower head continued to spray down, soaking him now along with you as he clung to you like his life depended on it under its stream. His wild, long locks clung to his neck and forehead and his wet jacket weighed him down. You both stood weeping onto each other freely, Nagito from a broken heart, and you from shock. You were too terrified to move, to care that you were completely nude. He didn’t seem to care either, crushing you in his grip. He was a lot stronger than he looked.
“Nagito… Nagito please…” you pleaded, still not entirely sure these weren’t your last moments.
“I can’t bear to see you terrified of me. You’re… you’re the only one…” He could barely speak through his choked out sobs. He shook his head vehemently, needy for your touch. His hands roamed up and down your back desperately. He needed to feel you there, to know you were real.
“What…?” You didn’t understand.
“You’re the only one,” he sniffled, “who shouldn’t be afraid of me! You’re my shining hope. You’re my light in this darkness!” Tears wracked his body. “Why would a complete and utter nobody like me, talentless trash undeserving of your love ever try to hurt you? I wouldn’t even dream of it. (Y/N), please don’t hate me. I couldn’t bear it!” His finger nails dug into your spine. He was conflicted, and couldn’t fight the swell of anger that contended with the sadness in his chest. It felt like you didn’t know him at all to think he would hurt you. You weren’t the despair he sought to end. You had nothing to fear.
“But, y-you said- !” You began and he interrupted, unable to hear any more doubts of his loyalty to you.
“I know you’re the traitor. I just know it! You’re too good, too perfect to not be…” You’d never heard him so unconfident in his own reasoning before.
“You can’t possibly know that, Nagito!” You spat back, limp in his arms.
“I do know it. I know it. I’ll bet my luck on it. I want it so badly, my luck has to come through. It’s you, it has to be! I could never kill you. I could never get you killed. The others are the despair, you’re the solution. I know it’s you. I’m gonna make it all right… just watch!” He stepped back, taking your puffy face in his hands, staring directly into your eyes. “You’ll make it out of here! You’ll survive the last trial and go on without me, my love. I know it’s you!” He was deceiving himself once again, daring to want something so badly, so selfishly.
He would never live to see just how wrong he was.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu
You, your boyfriend Fuyuhiko, and your best friend Peko went way back. As a kid growing up on Fuyuhiko’s side of town, everyone knew to avoid Kuzuryu property. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately looking back at it, you were a pretty reckless as a kid, even if you weren’t now. You used to to slip through fences and past security cameras all the time to play with the blonde fuzzy-haired kid and the girl with the cool sword. Your parents scolded you when you came home, not knowing where you really were, but you always found your way back. The boy, who always had a temper, and the girl, who was the calm to his storm, repeatedly called you names, told you to never come back or his family would kill you, then played with you all day anyway. You had no idea what his family truly was, what the word yakuza really entailed, only that everyone said that part of town was dangerous. You didn’t see it that way, not when you played cops and robbers or samurai and peasant with your two best friends nearly every day. The boy, Fuyuhiko as you’d come to learn, would always rush you off the property if his father was coming home or when less friendly clan members came around, and you didn’t learn until years later why.
By that time it was too late for you to be scared of his yakuza status or Peko’s true strength now revealed to you. You were besties, and nothing was ever going to change that. Through middle school, you formed quite the crush on the petite bad boy, and although he still had a nasty temper and could be quite aloof at times, you wanted him all the same. A lifelong friendship bloomed into a romantic relationship - with hesitance on his part - and before you knew it, you were set to attend Hope’s Peak together. You kept your relationship secret from everyone save for Peko. Fuyuhiko insisted on this, for your own safety.
Now here you were, on this mysterious tropical island with all of your memories of Hope’s Peak wiped clean. You found that in general, many memories of your past were wiped clean, save for those few precious and essential ones. You remembered growing up with Fuyuhiko, your relationship with him, and Peko who you loved like a sister. Everyone else were strangers, strangers who seemingly also couldn’t remember how they got there or how you were all connected. You were all freshmen it seemed, and that was were it stopped.
Almost immediately after Monokuma’s appearance and monologue, Fuyuhiko had pushed both you and Peko away. He demanded you both pretend like you didn’t know him, treat him like everyone else and if need be, you’d meet in secret and away from prying eyes. This was to be a killing game with rules and trials, and no one else here seemed to know each other from their past. If the others found out you three were connected, you would no doubt all be dragged down if one of you got caught up in something nasty. Allies, a package deal and all that. He didn’t want your connection to him to put you or Peko in danger. He knew you’d both die for him, and he for you, and he wouldn’t let any of these idiots use that weakness against you.
~
The cat was long since out of the bag. Peko was gone and you’d helped Mikan nurse Fuyuhiko in and out of the hospital after his near-fatal wounds from trying to save the swordswoman from her from execution. Everyone knew of your relationship now, which meant no more sneaking around behind everyone’s back, but Peko’s life wasn’t the price you ever wanted to pay for that freedom. Along with Peko’s passing additionally came a visible change in your boyfriend’s soul. Though he still had that fiery temper, he controlled it with great effort now. He tried harder with people, forgave easier, loved better, appreciated more. The days of reflection in the hospital stirred something in him.
Weeks passed, and it was one tragedy after another. From the group giving you hell about keeping secrets, to tending to Fuyuhiko’s extensive wounds, to now finding Ibuki hanging from a rope and Hiyoko posted up against a pillar with her throat slit, your group couldn’t seem to catch a break.
Though Mikan and yourself begged him to get some rest - as his wound had already reopened once - Fuyuhiko insisted on investigating in preparation for the trial with everyone else. He was as strong-willed as ever. You searched the hospital with him for clues or evidence the blackened may have sloppily left behind. He was on edge, and you couldn’t blame him. Everyone was, these were the fifth and sixth classmates dead in the blink of an eye, and the killer was still on the loose. Your skin crawled and you were extra jumpy today. Every corpse you had to look upon took a little more of your innocence and vitality from you, and this maniac had already killed twice. What was to stop them from killing again?
Fuyuhiko insisted that he wasn’t scared of the blackened, quite the opposite. It was his rage aimed at them that would fuel his strength to move on and identify them. You knew him well, and knew when to back off when he was in a mood. Everything seemed to annoy him at the moment. It was hard to search with him and cooperate when he got pissed off everytime you fussed over his healing injuries. He kept swatting you away then apologizing for being irate and short-tempered. He just wanted you to stop babying him.
Just now bending over to search near a hospital bed, Fuyuhiko shot upright, jumping at a sudden sound that startled him.
“What the fuck-?!” He turned to the source of the loud crash behind him. You were splayed out across the floor behind him, a deep gash on your cheek spilling blood down your face as you sat up. “What the hell did you do?!”
“I just tripped! I’m fine!” You gestured with one hand to a small table you’d toppled over, holding your bloody cheek with the other. The contents on said table, various sharp little medical instruments and tools, were strew about and on top of your body. Fuyujiko glared at the hard counter top of the cabinet you’d hit your cheek off of on the way down. Now you knew how Mikan felt, always making a mess of her clumsy self.
“You’re a fuckin’ idiot! Why don’t you watch where you’re going?! We’ve got enough shit to deal with right now!” He kneeled down to your level and started rapidly picking up the various scalpels and knives around you.
“I’m sorry, ‘Hiko…” the shame was setting in. He was already ornery today and you’d somehow made it even worse. He leaned over your body, reaching for more of the small instruments.
“Sorry’s not gonna cut it! You-”  hovering over you, he lifted one of the razor sharp tools above his head in a clenched, angry gesture. You turned your head, gasping slightly and flinching away from him. Your free hand came up to cover your face with your eyes shut tight in a grimace. Upon seeing you recoil, cowering away from him like that, he halted, the rest of his complaint dropping off into oblivion.
He didn’t want to be like that anymore, remember? He reminded himself of his temper, of his talks with Hajime in the hospital, of Peko’s memory urging him to do better, of his display of humility to Hiyoko in the hotel restaurant.
He cleared his throat awkwardly, putting the instrument aside and gently pulling you to your feet alongside him.
“Come on, sit down. Let’s get you cleaned up.” He pushed you gently down to sit on the hospital bed and reached for some simple disinfectant, a cloth to put it on, and a large bandage. He began to pat the blood away. “We’ll have Mikan look at this later to see if it needs stitches, but this is the best I can do for now.” He noticed you avoiding his eye contact and his heart sank. “Hey…” He held your chin, titing your head to look up and meet his gaze. “I’m really sorry, okay. I would never lay a hand on you. That is a fact. Please… know this for certain.”
“I know, I just… I don’t know… I’m sorry I reacted that way.” His apology helped, but you still felt a little foolish.
“No, it’s me who should be sorry. There’s no need to get that angry, especially at you, especially for an accident.” He sighed, running a hand down his face. He had a long way to go. “Please slow down. Be more careful and worry about yourself as much as you worry about me. I can’t lose you, too.”
Hajime Hinata
You’d closed yourself up in your cabin for good, with no plans to go out in the foreseeable future. Every few minutes you checked the locks, on both the doors and the windows, biting your nails down to nearly bleeding. In addition to shutting yourself in, you’d shut the world, the island, and all your classmates out. You were a nervous wreck.
Mere hours ago, Nagito had blown the hotel lobby and everyone in it sky high. He’d finally lost what little marbles he had left. Nobody knew fully why, but he’d snapped too far beyond repair. Both you and poor Kazuichi were very near to the blast zone, and even now you felt a dizziness and slight loss of hearing. You were sure that over in his cabin, Kazuichi was feeling the same way. You wanted to pass out, to scream, to topple over in exhaustion but refused to let yourself leave your post. As much as you were tired and dizzy, you were equally as terrified. What if that maniac Nagito showed up again to finish the job? Though the vertigo threatened to take you down for the count, you were determined to stay vigilant. Your mind grew more and more dull and hazy by the second, though.
Hajime and the others wanted to go to the new island in the morning, and as far as you were concerned, they could search until their hearts were content. You’d given up. You’d been broken. You’d been beaten by Monokuma and this killing game. Why go to a new island? Every time you guys went to a new island to explore, someone died. Everyone was dying. There was a psychopath hell-bent on blowing you up - or worse - on the loose. You were content to stay in your cottage and rot away. Paranoid and eroded away from trial after trial, you’d refused to let anyone in, even your sweet boyfriend, Hajime, who’d already tried to come check on you several times that night. Even as the rain poured down from the night sky and lightning cracked consistently, he kept coming back. He was extremely concerned about you, but you just couldn’t do it anymore. You didn’t trust anyone anymore. You couldn’t.
You trusted Teruteru, and Peko, and Mikan, and Gundham, and Nagito… it was all too much. Who would betray you next? Who would stab you in the back when you least expected it for a chance at freedom as a blackened who got away with it? It could be literally anyone. Sonia had a country to get back to, an entire country waiting for her. Fuyuhiko had an empire. They all had a reason to live and you’d be an easy target in this state of barely conscious, injured and mentally broken.
You’d almost fallen asleep when a knock came at your door, again…
You almost chose to ignore it, but figured getting your body moving would keep you awake, so you forced your feet over to the door.
“Hajime…?” You assumed, your voice weak.
“Man…” he sighed loudly, muffled by the rain and the barrier of the door, “(Y/N)... you sound terrible. I really do think you have a concussion. Please let me in. I’m worried sick.”
“Please go away, Hajime. I’m sorry… I’ll be fine. I just -”
“I know you’re scared. You know you can trust me.” There was that word again… Moments passed in silent contemplation. “... I’m gonna keep coming back until you let me in. I’m soaked… please…” he whined, jiggling the door handle on his side. Now it was your turn to sigh. You rested your head against the door, senses dimming fast. He was probably right, you most likely did have a concussion. Your head ached, your vision was a bit blurry, the light of your cabin bothered your eyes. “You can’t just stay in there forever, you need medical atten-” The door swung open before him, and you hurriedly signaled for him to come in, swiftly locking the door behind him.
“No sudden movements. I’m a bit confused right now… everything’s a bit slow…” Your words slurred out but he seemed to catch them all.
“Yeah, no shit. You were blown all the way across the hotel floor. Come here, let me check something.” He took your wrist and stood you in the center of the room in front of him. He pulled a small flashlight he won from the gacha machine from his pocket and flashed it into your eyes slowly. “Try to stand still.” You were trying to, but swayed and stumbled regardless. “See, you can’t even do that much. Look, since Mikan is gone, we gotta let Monomi help us out. Let’s get you to the hospital.”
“What?! No, no no…” your heart beat quickened, feeling that paranoid panic set in again. “I’m not leaving this room.” The confusion was hitting again as you stumbled backwards a step and your back met the side of your bed. Was this a set up? You already let him in, now he wanted to get you out in the open? “Something’s gonna happen! I won’t go!”
“(Y/N), I promise I’ll get you to the hospital safely and I’ll stay with you the whole time. I know you’re scared but you’re being irrational right now!”
A thunderous boom sounded outside as high above your cabin the lightning cracked. In an instant, all of the lights wavered and went out. You cried out into the pitch black. You couldn’t see even a foot in front of you. This was definitely a set up. It had stormed plenty of times on this island, and the lights never went out like this.
Hajime reached out for you in the dark, and you screamed even louder at his touch. This was it, the betrayal. It was inevitable on this hell of an island. No one could truly be trusted.
“(Y/N), stop! Stop yelling!” Hajime grabbed one of your wrists in the dark, and you sank to the floor, too dizzy to stand any longer. He heard the thud of your butt hitting the ground, though he couldn’t see it, and sunk to his knees beside you.
“Please… don’t hurt me, Hajime…” the words tumbled out of your mouth lazily. You wanted to pass out so badly.
“Hurt you?” He sounded incredulous, almost scoffing. Turning the screen brightness all the way up on his e-handbook, he set it on the ground beside you both for some type of light, as meager as it was, and sat the flashlight beside it. He grabbed your face in his hands, gently shaking you to alertness. He’d heard it wasn’t good to let someone with a concussion fall asleep. “I’d never hurt you.” He stated almost matter-of-factly. “You’re just going through a rough time right now... Don’t talk like that. You know I’d never hurt you. I care about you, a lot.” He adjusted your position so you were sitting up a little straighter.
It pained him to see you this way. This killing game was stealing your luster, your goodness, your spirit. He’d noticed that your smile - a smile he loved so very much - grew smaller and smaller with each trial. Now it’d come to this. You were frightened of even him…
“I’m so scared, Hajime…”
“I know. I know you are.” He spoke with compassion in his voice. “Will you let me help you? Please…?” He waited for your nod of confirmation before continuing. “Come on,” he scooped one arm under your legs and the other under behind your back and stood with you in his arms. “We’re gonna get you the help you need. I know it’s hard, but we are a team. You, me, Chiaki, Sonia, Kazuichi, Fuyuhiko, Akane, we need to do this together. I know it’s hard to trust after all that’s happened, but I’m gonna keep you safe, and we’re gonna survive this, together.”
Kazuichi Soda
Kazuichi sat in front of the busted funhouse elevator, ass nearly numb from sitting in that position for hours. He was squatting before, until his knees began to hurt as well. You sat behind him, handing him tool after tool when he needed it and offering encouragement and advice when you could. Still, he was being testy and very short with you and the two of you had gotten into it several times today already. Nothing big, just a few little spats. You had to keep reminding him that you were only trying to help, but nonetheless he was in a foul mood.
You knew he was truly mad at the situation, not you. His anger was misplaced but it still hurt. You’d all been locked up in the funhouse for days without food and with minimal sleep due to Monokuma’s interference and everyone was on each other’s last nerves. Now the elevator was broken, and the Ultimate Mechanic was expected to be the one to fix it. He’d been at it all day, and with each set back or miniscule perceived failure, he got more and more irritated.
You handed him a wrench you’d gotten from the hidden room beyond the Final Dead Room. All the tools he was currently using were from there as well. Oh yeah, that was another reason he was so pissed off. He’d never admit to it, but the fact that you were smart and brave enough to pass the Final Dead Room’s test unscathed and here he couldn't even fix this measly machine irked him like nothing else. He felt like the word useless might as well have been stamped onto his head. After he let out yet another frustrated groan, stretching out his sore wrist, you sighed and spoke up:
“Hey, Kaz’, it’s okay if you can’t get it done today. Let’s get some rest. We need to conserve energy.” He looked at you as if you’d just called him the biggest loser ever.
“That’s easy for you to say! You’re actually contributing to the group! You don’t have the burden of feeling like a failure on your mind!” He gritted his sharp teeth.
“You are contributing by even trying to fix it!” You retorted, not appreciating his tone or him starting an argument with you yet again today.
“Oh, don’t patronize me! You just don’t get it! Everyone likes you and you’re good at everything you try! I can’t even do what I was literally born to do correctly!” He spat.
“Oh, Kazuichi, give me a break! It is not that deep! Nobody even needs to use the elevator at this very moment!” You shifted your position right next to him, crossing your arms over your chest in a pouting display.
“If you’re not gonna help, then just go away!” He leaned forward toward you, raising the wrench in his hand in exasperation. You jolted backwards, leaning away from him with a fright.
Things got really awkward, very fast. The air went dead silent and all anger drained from his face. He lowered the wrench as a blank expression took over, followed by one of slight embarrassment. Did you really think he was gonna hit you with it? A moment passed, and you both looked away from each other, refusing to make eye contact.
“H-hey…” Kazuichi hesitated for a second, then made up his mind. Grabbing your shoulder, he seized you into his chest and held you tightly. His mind flashed back to his years in the family shop, to glimpses of his dad screaming whenever he angered him, even hitting him sometiimes for fucking up on a car. He might have even deserved it - he thought - but you didn’t. For sure, you didn't. He respected but feared his father, and he didn’t want to make anyone feel like that, especially not you. “I would never hit ya like that! Y-you gotta know that, right?!” His voice broke as he fought back tears. “I’m sorry for being an asshole today. This place just fuckin’ sucks you know? I can’t take it anymore!” You felt wetness soak through your shirt on your shoulder though you couldn’t see his face. You returned the hug, pulling him tighter into yourself. You two sat like that for a long while, resigned to give the elevator another try sometime later.
Nekomaru Nidai
You and Nekomaru were kinda… a thing? It was complicated because you were two very different people, but there was a little spark, a mutual crush that was known of and whispered about by the other students. It was weird, because you two flirted with each other, but nothing really ever happened because when he was around, you felt like a flustered mess, a puddle of mush. He was an intimidating, extroverted mountain of a man, and it was easy to become nervous in his presence. It’s like you were touch-starved, head over heels for your handsome classmate and yet the thought of him touching you turned you into an anxious idiot at the same time. You spent a quite lot of time together but there was rarely any touching other than a motivational clap on the back or the slap when you made a good joke, maybe even a very platonic-feeling bear hug as a greeting every once in a while.
In fact, you saw more chemistry between him and Akane, or even him and Hajime, two people he hung out with all the time. Heck, he touched Akane a lot more than he ever touched you. It made you feel a bit jealous, even. You felt silly even admitted this to yourself, as he wasn’t even your boyfriend and could do whatever he pleased, but it was frustrating nonetheless.
You wanted to be mature, to be honest and communicate your feelings with him once and for all because the pining, the unfulfilled feelings were driving you crazy but it had totally blown up in your face. Turns out your relationship with him was a lot more complicated than you originally thought. The talk ended up as a bit of an argument… well, it felt like you were arguing and stumbling over your feelings while he didn’t seem to be upset at all, which made you feel even more overwhelmed. You felt childish, unable to express yourself in a way that didn’t feel humiliating. He always seemed willing to talk something out, but at the same time didn’t really seem to understand how you felt in any other way than on a platonic level. He motivated, talked to, trained, and fixed people for a living, but maybe sports and romance were just too different for this conversation to click in his head. Or maybe… you were reading the signs all wrong. Maybe he didn’t like you back at all. Maybe you and your peers had misinterpreted his fondness for you as flirting, and you decided to accept that. You respectfully asked him to forget about everything you said, and apologized for the confusion and awkwardness, making your swift exit.
~
Sulking, dejected and needing some alone time, you walked along the lengthy bridge that connected Jabberwock Park to the island that housed the supermarket and resort. The sun was in the process of setting, leaving the island nearly dark with last last bits of daylight.
“(Y/N)!” You looked up from your navel-gazing to see a large figure bolting toward you at the speed of light. Nekomaru’s sudden appearance startled you even though you knew the guy to be loud and over the top. At that distance, you may not have been able to tell it was him in this little lighting if he weren’t yelling out your name. You’d recognize the voice from a mile away. As he finally approached, not the least bit out of breath, he began to speak immediately.
“Hey, (Y/N)!” He seemed a bit different, a bit less charged-up than his usual state. It was like a calm state of focus.
“Hey… Nekomaru.” You smiled weakly, still extremely nervous standing in his shadow. You had to tell yourself that you only felt this way because you liked him, and you had to let go of those feelings. “What’s up?” You twiddled your thumbs timidly, eluding the eye contact.
“I wanted to talk to you about earlier. When we chatted… well, I’ve been thinking about it all day. It’s been bothering me! So…” His brow furrowed. It wasn’t often he was speechless. “Uhhh..” he stalled in his deep rumble of a voice. He took a step closer to you, and you took one skittish step back. It felt weird having him in your personal bubble. It bred butterflies in your stomach. You began to shiver. It was partly because of the chill in the evening air, and partly because you dreaded confrontation like this. You feared he would make this more painful and awkward than it already was. Why couldn’t he leave it be? You weren’t his type, you accepted that! You took another self-conscious step back.
“We don’t really need to talk about it. I get how you feel, it’s fi-” a gasp passed through your lips as his massive hand suddenly flew down toward you. You flinched backward just a tad and felt your heel slip off the edge of the bridge. His hand found its desired destination around your waist and he pulled you in snugly to his wide, warm chest.
“W-why did you do that?” You looked up at him, your face pulsating with warmth just underneath the skin. He raised a brow apphrehensively at your reaction.
“You were shaking, so I figured you were cold. Plus, you were about to fall off the bridge. Two birds, one stone! Bet you’re warmin’ up now, huh?” He grinned down at you briefly before the wary expression took over again. “Hey, I know I’m a big dude an’ all, but you don’t need to be afraid of me or anything…” he mumbled and you could feel him speak from your position smashed against his chest. You looked down now, a bit ashamed that you made him feel that way. You didn’t know why he cared what you thought of him, but you could hear the slight hurt in his voice.
“I’m not scared of you, Nekomaru… quite the opposite…”
“Whaddaya mean?” What did he mean what do you mean??? Was he really that clueless? You literally had a whole conversation about this earlier today. Did the meaning of your words fly totally over his head… or were you just not clear enough?
“Nekomaru… I’m not scared I just…” you paused, debating just shutting up then and there, “I just get really nervous around you because… I really like you. Like as more than a friend…”
“You do?” Why did he sound genuinely surprised?
“I told you so earlier…”
“You did?!” He donned a puzzled look, and you looked up at him, incredulous. “No way!”
“I told you how I felt earlier, and you didn’t seem to feel the same so I let it go!”
“See, I told you it’s been bothering me, because I couldn’t for the life of me understand what you were so upset about earlier!” He threw his head back in one of his endearing, hearty laughs. What was that stereotype? Dumb jock?
“I mean, I tried to tell you, without being too forward or blunt. I was afraid you’d reject me…”
“Haha! Next time, why don’t you try to be more straightforward and honest with your feelings? It feels good!” He flexed the arm that held you close, giving you a good squeeze. You felt your cheeks warm up sheepishly.
“Like I said… you make me nervous…” you chuckled diffidently.
“Well, what do you say we try that talk again?” He began to resume the walk across the bridge, with you under his arm. “This time, we both be clear adn honest with each other?” His eyebrow wriggled rather mischeviously. “I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the results.”
Twogami / Ultimate Imposter
You’d spent nearly all of what little time you’d been on the island with Byakuya. You were starting to form a little crush on him, and he was rather fond of you as well (not that he’d ever openly admit it) so he allowed it. You of course knew about the Togami family’s power and influence, everyone did, so you found yourself a bit shy around him, but having fun at the same time getting to know him. You were a bit of of a people pleaser, both curious about him and eager to help if he needed it. There were times when you two simply hung out, like two normal people, and sometimes he even seemed to find you as fascinating as you found him. When he found himself asking one too many questions about you, however, he always seemed to reel it in, pulling back like he had some type of wall up.
You were fine with it. You’d just met a few days ago after all, and the friendship… or something more, would form when it formed. You didn’t want to force it. You were already feeling a bit silly and about wanting to connect with the Ultimate Affulent Progeny in the first place. Someone with his wealth and status could probably spend his time with anyone he wanted.
The threat of the start of a potential killing game was putting everyone on edge, even the scion himself, though he carried it better than most. He genuinely looked like someone your class might be able to look to as a leader.
The group had decided to throw a little party later that night, and you offered to help Byakuya tick off and confiscate all weapons or even potential weapons in the old building that would house this party… for some reason. Every loose wooden plank, every butter knife, every pointy object had to go. It felt like he knew something no one else did… but, you happily followed along, helping him with this task. Honestly, though, on the inside, you feared he was being a little too uptight. How would he enjoy the little get together tonight in this state of uneasiness?
In between locking up items he dubbed nefarious and double checking every corner of the building, you two actually got to know each other a little better. After hours of work, he was satisfied. All the while, he seemed to be watching Teruteru and Nagito like a hawk as the two shuffled in and out of the building preparing tonight’s dishes and cleaning respectively. What was Byakuya hiding from you? Why all the suspicion? Did he genuinely think one of your classmates would kill someone tonight? That was just insane to even think about.
Trying to ease his mind, you started up an innocent conversation.
“You shouldn’t worry so much, really! Tonight will be great! I know it. I brought my good luck charm and everything!” Smiling and seeking to distract his tense mind, you brought a little trinket out from your back pocket. In your flattened out hand you displayed a little baby blue pocket knife, barely the size of your palm. “My dad gave it to me when I was really little, and I -”
“What is wrong with you?!” Byakuya’s hand shot out toward you to grab the small blade and you flinched backward, holding your hands up defnesively and dropping it onto the floor in the process. The sudden, angry movement had frightened you, especially coming from a man who knew how to hold an intimidating presence.
The silence then was palpable as it hung in the air, and he, the real him, wanted to apologize, to explain himself and express regret for overreacting. He wanted to say that you’d been a joy to hang out with these past few days and that he’d never raise a hand to you, but Byakuya Togami would never lower himself to say these things… and right now, he was Byakuya Togami. He steeled himself to speak.
“I was merely going to confiscate the blade from you. What a gross overreaction…” He spoke condescendingly. “Do you really think me some animal, some lesser beast who physically assaults people? Don’t insult me so…” He scoffed, plucked the blade from the ground and pocketed it. “I don’t know what kind of men you’ve dealt with, but clearly you’ve been hanging around with the dregs of humanity.” Crossing his arms nonchalantly over his chest, he left you there without another word, satisfied that his facade had remained in tact. Inside, it burned, it hurt to be so cruel to such a sweet person like you. He left to make final preparations for the party tonight and you stayed behind, offering to help Teruteru and Nagito since you were already there. It would take your mind off of the humiliation you just suffered.
~
Early into the next morning, when Monokuma dismissed the survivors of the very first class trial back to their cottages at last, you’d nearly missed it as you crawled onto your bed in a tired, traumatized ball:
A rectangular black box sat on your bedside table. It wasn’t yours, and you were sure your cabin door was locked. How did it even get there?
You opened it cautiously and found the most expensive looking, elegant, and elaborate looking pen in the world within. On one side was the Togami family crest, engraved delicately and masterfully. Tucked under it was a small note. You read it, tears welling up immediately.
A replacement good luck charm - T
Gundham Tanaka
Gundham felt totally secure with you, a feeling he’d never truly felt with anyone else. He’d never state it in plain words, but it was true nonetheless. You’d always been accepting of him and his rather eccentric ways. He didn’t need to feel like an outcast around you. He felt completely seen, understood on a whole new level. He could’ve sworn you cast some sort of spell over him, the way his cheeks and the tips of his ears would feel like they were on fire when you complimented him or held his hand. He nearly burst into flames when you once pecked his cheek with your soft lips after he carried a bunch of stuff back to your cabin for you as a favor.
You two spent nearly every day together. Everyone knew you two were a thing and you didn’t mind the teasing. You had no reason to be ashamed of how you felt about Gundham. He was the kindest soul you’d ever met, it just took a little digging to figure that out. Other than Hajime and Sonia - the only other two who really tried to get to know him - you were the only one who he’d let tend to the Devas. You often held them, fed them, watched them in your cabin when Gundham showered or needed a short break. The hamsters and Gundham himself provided a much needed light for you in the darkness of this killing game. The little things you did with him mattered so much to you. You appreciated every moment when in this place, you could be very much dead the next day. You swam at the pool and went shopping at the supermarket together on the main island, ate at the diner together on the second, hung out at the music venue together on the third, and now, trapped in the funhouse with starvation as the motive, Gundham insisted that you share the sound-proof, luxury room with him.
You’d initially gotten extremely flustered by his request but eventually accepted. Gundham didn’t seem to think twice about it. You supposed he was so naive to romance that he saw nothing wrong with you two sharing a bedroom at all. Maybe he did know, but cared more about your safety than the embarrassment. You knew he’d never do anything without your express permission anyway, so after deliberating, decided it was a non-issue. It was unusual for Monomi not to pop up to protest, however.
~
Days into being trapped in the funhouse, you sat at the small desk in your room feeling like a total asshole. You’d been in an argument with Gundham earlier, one that you’d totally started and knew you were in the wrong for. You rarely ever had a disagreement with him, much less gotten into a full-on fight. It was a bit one-sided however, as you yelled and complained while he just tried to reason with you and ultimately ended up leaving you alone in the room for some space. You regretted it the instant he left, and had made up your mind to apologize the second he returned. You were miserable: starving and dead tired from Monokuma Tai Chi every morning, but that was no excuse for your behavior. Everyone else was hungry and cranky, too, and you’d taken your anger out on Gundham for no reason.
You pulled out the headphones and small MP3 player Hajime gifted you when you hung out a few weeks back and slumped forward on the desk, moping as you put the headphones in and blasted the music as loud as the cheap earbuds would allow. You had to pass the time somehow, and walking around looking for Gundham when he’d eventually come back here to sleep would waste what little energy you had left. There was a small part of your mind that wondered: what if he didn’t come back? Your heart ached. Everyone was starving… someone would have to kill soon to get out of this hopeless situation. You could only hope and pray that the last thing you said to Gundham wouldn’t be that hateful nonsense. You let yourself zone out, head down on the desk and eyes closed lazily. You began to doze off and wouldn’t know how long you were out.
You awoke to the music still blasting in your ears and a tap on your shoulder.
“Hmm?” Groggily you turned to see Gundham behind you. Gripped tightly in his gauze-wrapped hand was a large, sharp knife the length of your forearm. Your eyes widened and you screamed, taken off guard by the frightening sight. “Gundham, please, no!” It was a bit odd that he looked more shocked than you did as you backed away from him, falling off the chair and onto the floor behind it with a thud. Tears began to stream down you face.
You didn’t think it would end like this, but it was kinda of the perfect location. The room was sound-proof, after all. You just never expected a betrayal this cruel. Maybe you should’ve. After all this time, all of these deaths, it was naive to truly trust anyone on this island. Why did it have to be him though of all people? Maybe he had to do this. After all, the Devas were starving, too, and they meant the world to him. Getting out meant saving them as well.
Tossing the knife onto the bed, he rushed over to you, kneeling to the floor and tearing the earbuds out of your ears.
“What sort of demon has possessed you?!” Confusion coated his visage and the Devas hopped down from their master’s scarf and swarmed you, sensing your distress.
“What do you mean?! You just scared the shit outta me!” Fresh tears sprang forward with your frustration.
“That was never my intention, my beloved…” he shook his head apologetically.
“Well you can’t just pop up out of nowhere with a knife like that, especially in a situation like this! I thought you were about to fucking murder me!”
“I assumed you knew that I would never do you harm, so I didn’t see an issue with my approach… These other peasants would do well to fear my dark powers, but I thought you knew that my loyalties lie with you, dear one!” He pulled off one of his dramatic gestures. You pulled your knees up into yourself, suddenly feeling very stupid.
He proceeded to explain that while he was gone, he’d decided to take on the Final Dead Room in hopes of finding a route of escape from the funhouse because he couldn’t stand to see you suffer like this for a single day more. Instead, he came upon a cache of weapons of every sort and size, and begged you to keep that fact a secret. Pulling you to your feet, he sat you down on the bed and handed you the knife.
“Since I can not spirit you away from this hell, I have chosen to provide you with the means to defend yourself should I ever fail to. Hide it somewhere that is always accessible to you and no one else. And my darling, I beg of thee,” he pleaded, “cease all usage of that wretched machine!” He pointed to the MP3 player discarded onto the ground. “You must be on your guard at all times in this place, especially if the Devas and I are not there to guard you.” Your bottom lip quivered, heart swelling at his concern for you, even after you screamed at him earlier. You sat the knife down and threw your arms around him, collapsing into his chest. You didn’t deserve him.
“I’m so sorry, Gundham! After I sat here and bitched at you for no reason, you went out and still thought of my safety? I’m so, so sorry!”
“Think nothing of it, dear one…” He mumbled, burying his red face in his scarf.
Teruteru Hanamura
Most of the your other classmates were repulsed or at the very least annoyed by Teruteru’s antics. His behavior: overtly flirty and forward, even to the point of perversion, was a major turn off for most of the people he talked to, but you actually really liked him. You found his one-liners funny, his pick up lines amusing. He was genuinely fun to hang out with, in your opinion. He complimented you a lot, and you would playfully tease and flirt back. He really seemed to enjoy the matching of his energy, and though you’d only known each other for about a week, you spent a lot of time together. He was usually showing you some simple yet delicious recipes and letting you taste test his meals (of course with a lot of innuendos built in) and you would share your interests with him while you cooked together. You noticed, also, that the more time you spent with him, the less time he spent bothering the others. Maybe all he needed was a little positive attention all along.
Tonight, all of your classmates would be attending a party, both to socailize and ensure that nothing could happen because you’d all be in the same place, which would leave too many witnesses, therefore making a killing unlikely. Teruteru of course was excited to do what he did best and provide the meals for the party, but his mood seemed to be like a rollercaster that day. As you spent hours helping him cook, sometimes leaving to take breaks or talk to the others, he seemed to go from flirty to worried, salacious to nervous, confident to angry. His mood seemed to turn foul when Nagito would waltz by the kitchen, passing through as he did his assigned cleaning duties in the party building. You noted this, but it was strange, as you hadn’t known Teruteru to particularly dislike any of your peers… Did he have an issue with Nagito? But Nagito was so chill…
No matter the reason for his mood swings, you took them for what they were and tried to help out by offering an extra hand (which he made a dirty joke about) or changing the subject when he got gloomy. You could only do so much to stabilize his mood, however, and eventually he seemed to just be barking orders or frustrated with you. He was already in a bad mood and you didn’t want to contribute to it. You weren’t a true chef anyway and you were probably just getting in the way, you figured, so you took a big tray of finished dishes and began to make your way out to the dining hall.
Your shoe caught onto a thick chord just outside the kitchen door, just a piece of junk Nagito hadn’t gotten to yet and you tumbled forward, spilling the entire tray onto the floor. You gasped as you hit the floor, your knees stinging with the impact. Teruteru, who witnessed the whole thing, ran over to you with a shriek to make sure you were okay. The melancholy melted away, and checking on you was all that mattered.
“(Y/N)!” Mistaking his tone for anger because of his previously existing foul mood, you were startled by his approach, flinching away, shrinking backwards slightly. You fucked up, you ruined the dishes he spent hours making. He was probably furious with you. He stopped dead in his tracks, shocked by that instinctual response from you. With your reaction, he finally realized how rude he’d been to you all night. It wasn’t your fault Nagito was up to no good, and even knowing what he knew, he shoudn’t have taken his mood out on you. He was pushing away the one person who treated him with such kindness and respect on this island. His mother wouldn’t have been proud of that. “Take my hand.” He extended it to you and helped you to your feet.
“I’m so sorry, Teruteru, your food-!” You began to apologize profusely but he cut you off.
“I can always make more. I enjoy making more. Are you alright? You took quite the spill!” He smiled warmly at you. “I shoudln’t have been so… intense earlier. My apologies.”
“Oh I’m fine! It’s okay. But, about the food… are you sure it’s gonna be okay? Can we really make more in time?” He nodded enthusiastically in response. When you beamed back at him, he felt his inside twist into a knot.
He had to stop Nagito tonight. It was decided. He didn’t know how, or the extent of Nagito’s plans, but he couldn’t let him start the killing game with that knife he’d caught him taping under the the dining hall table earlier that morning.
Because… what if Nagito chose you, as his victim?

She took in a wobbly breath, her bottom lip quivering as she pressed the heels of her palms into her eyes. Trying her hardest to slow her tears.
She hated love. Absolutely loathed it.
All it brought along was pain and misery. There was no such thing as a fairytale romance. No such thing as love at first sight. No such thing as soulmates. It was just an aching, sinking feeling in her chest. A black hole swallowing her completely.
Love was chaos.
And she never wanted to feel it again.
"What are you doing?" He asked in confusion, staring down at the girl in front of him.
Y/n was hanging upside down off her couch, lips pursed in a pout and eyebrows drawn together. "Looking for a new perspective." She hummed simply.
Tanaka bobbed his head with a nod, as if he understood what she was talking about. "Ahh, I see. Yeah that makes perfect sense."
Y/n snorted at his mocking tone, "If you're going to be snippy about it, you can leave."
Ryū huffed, "You're the one who invited me, dumbass." He took a spot on the couch next to her, putting his legs up on the back of it and hanging down much like she was.
She simply responded by sticking her tongue out at him. Tanaka copied her.
"What exactly are you trying to gain a new perspective of?"
Y/n's head turned towards him and she stared at him for a moment. Taking in the sight of her best friend. Ryū was beautiful. At least, she thought so. For a bald headed weirdo. Yes, he would argue that he was not bald and in fact buzzed, but she'd simply shrug and say they were the same thing - if only to mess with him further.
His eyes were mesmerizing. Dark and stormy. Reminding her of the sea. She could hear the waves crashing against the shore. His hands, large and calloused, yet warm. Strong. Comforting. His smile, toothy and wide. As bright as the sun. How she adored his smile.
As she gazed at him, she pondered whether or not she should be honest with him.
"Just..." she started, getting lost in his eyes as he watched her. Waiting patiently for a reply. "Life."
And there it was. That smile. Taking up half of his face as he let out a boisterous and contagious laugh.
"You're such a dork, y'know that?"
Y/n's heart squeezed at the sight before her and she let out a chuckle of her own. Reaching over to shove at Ryūnosuke playfully. "Shut up, jack ass."
Y/n had been best friends with Ryūnosuke for as long as she could remember. They were neighbors and his older sister often babysat her as a kid. Of course, Ryū would tag along on occasion, as they were around the same age. (She was 9 months younger, but she didn't count that-)
They didn't hit it off instantly. In fact, Y/n thought Ryū to be an impulsive and pigheaded oaf half the time. And Ryū thought her to be a conceded and pristine little brat. But over time they started to like each other more and more.
Now they were practically inseparable.
Tanaka's parents weren't around much, and so he came over a lot. All the time, actually. And because his sister worked as hard as she did, it was usually just him and Y/n. And her parents both worked too, so they weren't always home either.
Not that they minded. They liked it being just the two of them. And had developed a close bond because of that. They even had their own traditions. No one else was apart of it, it was just them. Always had been and hopefully always would be.
It wasn't until semi-recently that Y/n had discovered her feelings for Tanaka.
Truth be told, she kind of always knew. But she ignored them. Pretended they were something else. Forced herself to believe otherwise.
It was fear that kept those feelings at bay. Hidden deep within herself. But over time, the things you bottle up have to come out eventually. As much as she wanted to, she couldn't bottle up her feelings forever.
Sooner or later they were bound to erupt.
Y/n's hands clutched at her notebook, crinkling some of the paper from the force. Her heart was beating so fast she was sure it was going to explode. Her palms became clammy and she bit down on her lip to stop it from quivering.
She had come to see Tanaka's practice, like she usually did whenever she had the time.
However, this was not what she came here to see. Ryūnosuke fawning all over Kiyoko. It wasn't the first time she had witnessed it, but each time felt like a stab to the chest.
She hated seeing him get so excited over a girl.
A girl that wasn't her.
Envy ran through her veins and no matter how hard she tried to force the nauseating feeling to go away, it never did. Y/n felt stupid. Getting so overworked, so upset, over a guy.
But this wasn't just any guy. It was Ryū.
The same boy who shoved her childhood bullies off the swing sets when they made her cry. The same boy who would carry spiders outside for her, because while she was scared of them she didn't want them to die. The same boy who snuck through her window every time she had a nightmare. The same boy who gave her his umbrella because she didn't have one, and walked home in the rain instead. The same boy who gave her flowers every year on her birthday, her favorite kind too. The same boy who brought her boiled potatoes every day for a week straight because she was sick and wouldn't eat anything else.
This was Ryūnosuke Tanaka, her greatest and grandest friend.
And he was in love with Kiyoko. Not her.
Y/n waited for Tanaka outside the gym like she usually did. They always walked home together.
However, Tanaka was no where in sight.
Deciding to give him the benefit of the doubt, she chose to wait for him. She busied herself with reading, Y/n always kept a book on her. She had an earbud in as well, playing one of her many playlists in an attempt to further help pass time.
It wasn't until about 45 minutes later that Tanaka actually showed. She snapped her book shut, slipping it away into her bag and doing her best not to show her irritation.
"Hey," she glanced up at him and nodded in greeting. "Hey."
"Sorry I'm a bit late."
She shrugged as if it was nothing. "It's fine. I used the time to catch up on my reading."
"Well at least you got to do that." He teased as the two of them began walking. Y/n rolled her eyes, chancing a glance in his direction. Ryū had his eyes on the sky, his hands were shoved into the pockets of the gray hoodie he was wearing. He hadn't realized she was looking at him, thankfully. He always walked on the side closest to the road, wanting to protect his friends.
They walked in comfortable silence for a few minutes. Simply enjoying the sights and each other's company. Like they usually did. Y/n couldn't help but think of earlier. Of the way Ryū's eyes lit up at the sight of Kiyoko. Of how he showed off for her during practice. How his smile, the one that was as bright as the sun, was directed towards her. Was she the reason he was late?
"So," she breathed out, tearing her gaze away from him just as he glanced in her direction. "Is Kiyoko the reason why you were late?" Her tone was teasing, and she grinned at him as if she truly believed there was no way that could be true. As if it was just a joke between two friends.
Tanaka's cheeks warmed at the accusation and he cleared his throat, rubbing at the back of his neck. "Yeah, actually.."
Her smile instantly fell.
"What?"
"We were just talking and I lost track of time. I didn't mean to make you wait so long. But uh, I've been thinking of asking her out."
Y/n blinked, trying her best to wrap her head around this. "Ask her out?" Her chest tightened and her stomach dropped. Ryū had once again returned his gaze to the sky, so he had yet to notice her rigid posture and the frown pulling at her soft lips.
"Yeah. I've had a thing for her for a long time now, and I think.. I think she might like me too. At least, that's what Noya said." He turned to flash a grin in her direction, but it faltered at the broken expression she wore.
"Y/n? Hey, are you okay?"
She felt like a hot iron rod had been shoved down her throat. She nodded, a bit too quickly and did her best to force a smile on her face. "What? Yeah, of course. I'm fine. Just thinking is all... I'm really happy for you, Ryū." Her voice wobbled as she spoke his name and she bit down on her tongue. Praying he wouldn't notice.
Ryūnosuke didn't look convinced, but luckily, he decided against saying anything. At least, for now. "Thanks, Y/n. So uh.. I was hoping you'd help me with something?"
She couldn't speak, tongue thick and heavy. So she only nodded, being unable to do anything else.
"Do you think you could help me ask her out? I mean- I just- want to say all the right stuff, ya know?" His cheeks were pink, pinker than they were before. And he wouldn't meet her gaze. She was thankful for that, at least.
Her eyes stung with tears and at the sight of her house she began to pick up the pace. Tanaka seemed to notice this, and he arched a thick brow in confusion. "Y/n?"
"Yes." She choked out, quickly making her way to the door and keeping her back to him. Throat tight as she fumbled with her keys. "Y-Yeah, I'll help you. Sorry I just uh, I gotta pee so- I'll- I'll see you later-" she didn't give him a chance to respond as she opened the door and quickly shut it behind her.
Y/n's back hit the door and she stood there. Unable to move. Unable to breathe. Slowly her tears began to slip down her cheeks and then she found herself sliding down the door. Hand coming up to press against her mouth, to muffle her cries.
This was silly.
This was stupid.
She couldn't possibly be crying over a boy.
But no matter how hard she willed herself to stop, to force her tears to stop flowing. They only came faster, blurring her vision and restricting her air flow. Her breaths came out in short bursts, gasping as she wailed.
She pulled her knees to her chest, cradling herself in an attempt to give herself some small form of comfort. As she predicted, it didn't really work.
Y/n didn't respond to any of his texts that night. Instead replying in the morning and making an excuse of getting distracted by homework.
Tanaka either bought it, or decided against saying anything.
The next few days were filled with her giving her advice on how to ask Kiyoko out. She decided to bite the bullet and just get it done and over with. She was his best friend, after all. This is what a best friend does. She wanted Tanaka to be happy. And if that meant helping him get together with some other girl, then so be it.
Besides, their special tradition was coming up. And at least she got to look forward to that.
Every year, on the anniversary of their friendship, Ryūnosuke and Y/n would get together on her rooftop and watch the sunrise. No matter what day it was, how tired they got, if they had school the next day. It didn't matter. Because this was for them. Just them. It was a special moment for the both of them and they looked forward to it each year.
That wasn't all they did. They'd usually decorate the roof together, make a little area with pillows and blankets where they could sit comfortably. They'd hang a sheet from a wire connecting to some trees for a makeshift screen and use her small projector to watch some of their favorite movies. They'd make snacks together, which usually would end up in a food fight. They'd snuggle up under a blanket and watch the stars, laughing at inside jokes and reminiscing on memories. Tanaka would pretend he knew constellations and would make up random names for them, pointing to bunches of stars as if they were the real deal.
Sure, it wasn't a grand affair but it was fun. And it was special. It was tradition.

Wednesday, 4:37 PM.
ryū <3
hey, i'm gonna be a bit late
i promised kiyoko i'd
take her home
y/n
hey, that's okay thanks
for letting me know
want me wait for you to set
up and make the snacks?
ryū <3
nah thats okay
you can start without me
Y/n bit down on her lip in frustration, staring down at her phone in her hand. He didn't want to help set up? He didn't want to help with the snacks?
They've always set up together.
They've always made the snacks together.
It was tradition. It was part of the fun.
Maybe he'd make it in time to still help out a bit?
Y/n stashed her cell away in her pocket before setting off to work. She placed down a blanket on top of the roof and grabbed a few folded ones for them to use when they were up there. She put up some of her fairy lights and then set up some lanterns. The sheet was next, coupled by her laptop and projector. She tossed up some extra pillows for more comfort before getting started on the food.
Cookies, they were a must. They had them every year. Chocolate chip and gingerbread. Hot cocoa was also a must. She prepared an array of different snacks, some which she had gotten earlier in the week for this very night. She had to travel all the way to Tokyo for a few of them. Their favorite bakery was there and held some fan favorites they had each year. The owners knew them by name. They knew exactly what they came for when they came in around this time of year.
This time, Y/n ended up coming alone. It did not go unnoticed. She claimed Tanaka was busy, which he was, trying to seduce Kiyoko. But that didn't make it any harder.
Everything was ready. An hour and a half had passed and Ryū still hadn't shown.
Y/n was just about to call him when she heard a knock on her door. Strange, Ryū never knocked he always just came in but she didn't think much of it and moved to answer the door.
"Well it's about damn time. What took you so long anyway-" she yanked the door open and stopped in her tracks.
Ryū beamed up at her sheepishly, apologetically, and next to him stood Kiyoko.
"Hey, sorry we're late. We got to talking and time just flew by!"
Y/n blinked, hand still on the doorknob, half tempted to slam the door in their faces. "It's.. fine.."
"Did you get everything done in time?"
"Uh, yeah."
"Oh great! Think we can come in? It's fucking freezing out here."
Y/n was silent for a moment, staring at his arm which was thrown over Kiyoko's shoulders.
"Earth to Y/n?"
The door flung open. "Yeah, yeah, come in." She turned her back to them, eyes stinging as she padded her way to the kitchen.
This had to be some fucking joke, right?
He was messing with her, wasn't he?
"Sorry for coming without warning, Tanaka ensured me it was okay." Kiyoko spoke from behind her and Y/n took in a quiet breath before responding.
"It's fine. Don't worry about it." She flashed a small smile towards her from over her shoulder, trying to remain polite and civil.
Kiyoko sent a small smile back.
"The food looks great!" Ryū hummed, observing the array set out on the kitchen island. "You outdid yourself this time, Y/n."
Said female could only smile. Not knowing what to say. Part of her still couldn't believe this was real.
The three of them helped bring some of the snacks up to the roof, they had to get there via Y/n's bedroom window. Which she found a bit awkward. Kiyoko had never been to her house before. They weren't very close and while she was a nice girl it just felt strange having her in her room.
Perhaps this was Tanaka's way of getting them to become closer? The girl he liked and his best friend. But if that was the case, why did he have to pick tonight of all times? It was their special night. Their tradition. No one else had ever been involved, had ever been allowed to be involved.
Y/n had just finished grabbing the container of cookies as she made her way to the window. Ryū and Kiyoko were already settled on the rooftop. They had a blanket draped over their shoulders and their hands were connected. She did her best not to stare. They were talking to each other, she had no idea what the conversation was about and honestly she didn't care.
She didn't want to sit next to them while they were cuddling, but she didn't have much of a choice. She did her best not to seem stiff and awkward, but she failed miserably.
They had barley been here five minutes and she already felt like a third wheel.
Y/n decided to start one of the movies, as Tanaka and Kiyoko had been talking for the past several minutes while she just sat there. At least this way she might be able to distract herself from this horrendous night. And perhaps they'd shut the fuck up.
The talking did calm down a little, but Ryū was still very much all over Kiyoko. The sight alone was enough to make Y/n's blood boil. She felt so uncomfortable. And she was angry that he brought her here in the first place. This was their thing. Their special night. Their tradition. Sure, it might not have been very flashy. All they did was sit at home and hang out. But it was their thing. They did it every year. They had never brought along other friends before.
And he hadn't even asked if it was okay first.
Y/n was torn between just letting it go and trying to have a good time, or allowing herself to be mad about it. She wouldn't say anything in front of Kiyoko. That wasn't fair to her. It wasn't like she asked to be here, Tanaka was the one who brought her along and said it was okay. But even then, she didn't want to make him feel bad either. Maybe she was just being stupid.
She was torn from her thoughts at the sound of Kiyoko giggling at something Ryū had said. Y/n glanced over in their direction, being unable to stop herself. He had his arm around her shoulders and was feeding her something. She laughed as she took it from him, shaking her head to herself. Their cheeks were flushed and Y/n felt her stomach drop. She started to stand up and make her way towards her bedroom window.
"I'm just gonna go to the bathroom real quick," she mumbled out the excuse, and Tanaka nodded in acknowledgment.
Y/n climbed through the window, being careful not to trip as she made her way inside. Like she had said, she went to her bathroom which was connected to her room.
After closing and locking the door behind her, Y/n turned to face her relfection in the mirror. Her eyes were glazed with tears, but she refused to let them fall. She sucked in a shaky breath and turned on the cold water, splashing her face with it.
Why was this so complicated? She should just suck it up and be happy for him.
There was nothing she could do about it now. Her feelings would have to be bottled up and forgotten.
No matter how hard it may be.
Y/n let out a sigh and dabbed her face dry with a towel. "I can't wait for this shit to be over..."
As she made her way back into her room, she paused in front of her window. Freezing in place at the sight before her.
Her hands latched onto each other. Gripping so tightly they shook. Her eyes were wide and glossy, and she bit down on her lip to stop it from trembling.
Kiyoko and Tanaka were kissing. One of his massive paws was cupping the side of her face and the other sat on her waist. One of her hands cupped the back of his neck while the other sat atop his shoulder.
That was the final straw.
Y/n yanked the window open, causing Kiyoko to jump and pull away from Tanaka at the sound. She closed the laptop and started tossing things inside her room.
"Y/n, what-"
"You guys have to leave."
Ryū arched a brow in confusion. "What, why?"
She shook her head, claiming she'd get the rest later and threw their jackets at them. Tanaka caught them easily. "Don't worry about cleaning up, I can do it." Y/n said, waving Kiyoko off as she reached to help with a food platter.
The two shared a look before following Y/n inside. She started carrying the food in, quickly putting them on the kitchen island. Before she could slip past them to grab the rest, Tanaka reached over and grabbed her arm. Holding her firmly in place. "Y/n, stop. What's goin' on?"
Y/n looked up at him, biting the inside of her cheek to contain herself. "It's nothing-"
"Well, clearly it isn't. We've barley been here an hour-"
"My cat is sick!" She blurted. Being unable to come up with a better excuse.
Ryū's eyebrows furrowed. "Toji? He looked fine earlier-"
"He's sick. He was throwing up when I came in." She sputtered, sticking to it and hoping Toji was hiding somewhere- that was until she saw Toji brushing up against Tanaka's leg. He sent her a look.
"He seems fine to me."
Kiyoko bent down and gave him a scritch, the feline let out a little mew. Purring as she pet him.
Y/n's face paled and she quickly yanked herself out of Tanaka's grip and reached down to grab her cat. Cradling him in her chest. "No, I think he ate a toxic plant - I thought I saw him eating something and I wasn't sure before but-but now I am! So you guys need to go."
She ushered them towards the door, Ryūnosuke nearly tripping over his own two feet as she did so. "Y/n-"
"I'll call you later. Promise." She sent him a tight lipped smile and made no hesitation to quickly slam the door shut once they were outside.
Toji wriggled in her grasp, but she didn't let him go. Not until a few minutes had passed and she was sure they were gone. The fat cat jumped from her arms and went to go munch on some leftover kibble in his dish. Y/n watched him with a teary gaze. Silent and still. She sniffled, reaching up to wipe at her eyes harshly.
This was shit.
This whole evening sucked shit.
Their tradition felt lame. It felt like he didn't even care about it anymore.
She was done with it. She didn't want to deal with these stupid feelings anymore.
"Stupid Ryū.." she cried, shuffling over towards the island and snatching up a cookie. She practically shoved the entire thing in her mouth, muffling her cries.
"Fuck.." She sniffed, "I hate men."
A week went by and Y/n did her best to avoid Kiyoko and Tanaka. She barley responded to his texts and definitely didn't answer his calls. Y/n felt it was best to take herself out of the equation. It was too hard to be around the two of them. Especially right now. Maybe once her feelings for him faded a bit?
She dodged him as best as possible, saying she was keeping a close eye on Toji and she had lots of homework to do anyway.
But keeping away from him provided to be more difficult that she originally thought. He was a persistent mother fucker. He obviously knew something was wrong, or off, but no matter what he did or how hard he tried, Y/n wouldn't tell him what. She'd just brush him off and tell him she had something to do. Then she would leave. She hadn't been to any of his practises either.
Ryūnosuke didn't know what was going on, but he was determined to get to the bottom of it.
Y/n opened her locker to get a textbook she needed for her final class. She was listening to music in a poor attempt to drown out her sorrows. Feeling a hand on her shoulder, the female jumped and whipped around. Hand coming up on instinct and slapping the person's face. Her mouth droppen open and she yanked out an ear bud. "Ryū! What the hell! You scared the crap out of me!"
Tanaka cradled his face, eyes wide in surprise before he let out a burst of chuckles. "Damn, Y/n. You're stronger than you look."
Said girl scowled. "Yeah.." she mumbled, not sure what else to say. She turned back towards her locker and started putting away a few things. "Did you need something?" Y/n was trying her hardest not to get upset. But it felt like someone had shoved cotton down her throat and she really wasn't ready to be this close to Ryū yet. She just needed some time...
"Actually, I did want to talk to you about something." He leaned against the lockers next to hers, sliding his hands into his pockets.
She let out a sigh. "I really don't have time right now, I need to get to my next class-"
"It'll only take a sec." He reasoned, taking her silence as a 'go ahead'.
"Look, I know you've been avoiding me lately and I just want to know why-"
Y/n scoffed, shaking her head to herself bitterly. Tanaka's eyebrows furrowed as he studied the sour expression on her face. "What?"
"It's nothing." She snipped, struggling to put her textbook into her bag. Fumbling with the opening as she tried to get herself to calm down.
"Well clearly it's something."
"Just drop it, Ryūnosuke." Y/n spat, shooting him a glare in frustration. Her chest was growing tight and it was starting to feel all stuffy in here. She finally got her textbook into her bag and slammed her locker shut.
Tanaka watched her in surprise, she never called him by his name. It was almost always Ryū. "No, I'm not gonna just drop it." He kicked himself off the lockers and moved in front of her, blocking her path.
"Move."
"No."
Her shoulders sunk. "Get out of the way."
He rose his brows, staring at her challengingly. "Not until to tell me what's going on."
Y/n ran her tongue along her teeth, once again shaking her head. "I'm not dealing with you right now." She moved to step past him but he grabbed her, stopping her from going anywhere.
"Y/n, I'm bein' serious. Tell me what's wrong." He pleaded, stormy eyes searching her own relentlessly.
"So am I. Now let me go." She demanded, trying and failing to get away from him. Her eyes were starting to sting and she knew she had to get out of there fast. Lest she break into tears in front of him.
"I will if you just tell me-"
"I don't want to do our tradition anymore!" She snapped, hands balling into fists, nails puncturing her skin.
Ryū's eyes widened and he took a moment to take what she said in. "What?"
"It's stupid, and it clearly doesn't matter to you anyways, so I'm done. I don't want to do it anymore." Y/n's voice cracked and she bit down on her lip to stop herself from saying anything more than that.
"What are you on about? Of course it matters to me." He huffed, completely taken aback by her words.
"Well clearly, it doesn't." She argued pathetically.
"Is.. is this because I brought Kiyoko over?"
Y/n let out a dry chuckle, lowering her head and blinking furiously to try and stop her tears. Just hearing it stung. It felt like a slap in the face. A bitter reminder of that horrid night. "It's our thing, Ryūnosuke. Ours. Not anyone elses. You should have called me, you should have asked first before just bringing her over."
"You're right. I'm sorry I didn't check with you first. But I didn't think it was a big deal. It's not like it's a super important tradition or anything."
Her gaze snapped up to his. "Not important?" She asked, ripping herself away from him.
"Y/n, I didn't mean- hold on a sec-" she tried to get past him again but he grabbed her once more, directing her back in front of him.
"It is important just not like... super important, y'know? It's just some silly thing we started doin' as kids. I thought it would be fun to bring other's into it." Tanaka reasoned, but Y/n shook her head.
"Well, it doesn't matter now. Because it's done. I don't want to do it anymore."
"Y/n, come on, you're seriously going to stop doing the tradition over something this stupid-"
"Yeah. I am."
Ryū's eyebrows came together in frustration and he clicked his tongue. "What is the matter with you? You haven't been acting like yourself."
Y/n rolled her eyes, fed up with his pestering. She just wanted to leave. It was too soon. He should have just let her go. "You're the one who isn't acting like themselves. Kiyoko this, Kiyoko that, fucking bullshit." She hissed, yanking a hand through her hair in agitation. She hadn't meant to let that slip out but she couldn't help herself. He had her cornered and she needed to get the hell out of there.
Ryūnosuke stared at her in shock, but before he could get another word out, Y/n removed herself from his grasp and stormed into the girl's bathroom. Slamming the door behind her.
It was too late to stop her tears now. Y/n cursed under her breath, glad no one else was in here. She started to fan at her face, hoping it would help. It was a futile attempt.
"Y/n, wait. Come back!" She heard Ryū's voice through the door and she puffed out her cheeks in agitation.
"Go away!" She choked out.
"Y/n, c'mon. I wanna talk about this." He leaned his head against the door, hitting the wood with a small thud.
"What did you mean by all that?"
She snorted at that, scrubbing at her eyes, thankful that she wasn't wearing any makeup or mascara to smudge.
"Y/n, don't make me come in there. You know I will." Ryūnosuke huffed, cringing as some passerbys sent him strange looks.
She shook her head, even though she knew he couldn't see her. She quickly slipped into one of the stalls, closing the lid and sitting down on the toilet. She buried her face in her hands and pray that he wouldn't come in or hear her crying.
Tanaka let out a sigh before pushing the door open and storming inside. He couldn't see Y/n anywhere but there was only one stall closed so he walked over to it and kicked the door open. Spotting his best friend sniffling into her hands, whilst sitting on the lid of the toilet.
He crouched down and placed a hands atop her knees. Giving them a gentle squeeze.
"I could have been peeing." She grumbles out angrilly and he cracks a small grin. "Y/n.. Talk to me. Please."
Y/n lets out a puff of air, peeking at him with red puffy eyes through her fingers. Ryū sends her an ecouraging smile, thumbs brushing against her legs softly. She wets her lips with her tongue nervously. "I'm happy for you, Ryūnosuke-"
"Stop calling me that."
She sends him a look.
"It's Ryū."
She snorts at this, rolling her eyes before continuing. "I'm happy for you, Ryū. I truly a-am. I don't want you to th-think that I'm not. I'm your best friend and if you're happy, I'm h-happy. But I can't help the aching feeling in my chest. I'm s-so scared of losing you. I don't w-wanna lose y-you. I just... I just need time. I dunno."
His eyebrows come together again as he processes this. "Is this about Kiyoko?"
Y/n deadpans. "No, it's about Nishi, you dumb fuck."
Her chest tightens with the realization that she's already said too much. And with the soft look on his face, she feels her heart stutter within her chest. Suddenly she's very aware of where his hands are. And she starts to shake her head. Trying to stand up and push Tanaka off of her.
"J-Just forget it, f-forget I said a-anything." She started, wishing this conversastion had never happened in the first place.
Ryū stumbled a bit, catching himself on the edge of the door before he could fall. He quickly stood up and grabbed Y/n by her arms, stopping her from going anywhere. He pinned her against the wall of the stall. "Y/n, stop! You can't just say all that stuff and then dip!"
"Yes, I can. I j-just did! Now let me go, Ryū!" She tried to get out of his hold again, but this time he wasn't letting her go anywhere. Not without a proper answer.
"I'm not letting you go anywhere! I don't understand, I know I can be a bit dense about this kinda stuff so I need ya to tell me straight up!"
"Ryū stop!" She wailed, pathetically trying to push him off of her.
"No! Tell me what's wrong! Tell me what's going on inside that thick head of yours! Tell me how I can fix this!" He begged, not meaning to yell at her but being unable to help himself.
"I like you, asshole!"
Ryūnosuke's eyes widen and in his moment of surprise, he losens his grip a little. Before he realizes, Y/n manages to shove him off of her. She pushed past him, a heap of tears, and runs out the bathroom.
Leaving Tanaka standing there dumbfounded. Eyes wide and breath hitched in his throat.
Man, he's really fucked up now...

Ooooohhh could you possibly do Nevermore students tries to sneakily plan a surprise for Larissa? Like it’s mother’s day and obviously see her as a mom even tho she doesn’t have children. Larissa is like being suspicious cause every time she approaches a group of student they instantly tense and stop talking or seeing students running idk lol. She instantly became self-conscious and thinks to herself if she became one of those hated teachers haha. And suddenly a student approaches her with worry and tells her Wednesday or some random student caused some serious trouble as an excuse to bring her to the surprise.
🤍🤍🤍
Happy Mother's Day!
Larissa Weems x Nevermore Students
Authors Note: How cute was this idea???
Tumblr media
Principal Weems had absolutely no clue the students had been planning something big for Mother's Day. Students had seemingly been avoiding her, but she shook it off, wondering if some new bit of gossip about her was running rampant. Once a student had seen her on a date and the next few days, many students wouldn't make eye contact with her due to the theories as to the identity of the mystery woman. High schoolers gossip, that's what Larissa kept reminding herself.
Through the leadership of Enid and Yoko, much of the student body came together for the occasion. They had all decided that although they wouldn't be spending Mother's Day with their own mothers, the least they could do was celebrate their Nevermore mom.
They all gathered together at the Weathervane to surprise her. The most unsuspecting of students was sent to retrieve Larissa and lure her to the coffeeshop: Wednesday Addams. Wednesday vehemently objected in being the one to get Weems to come to the Weathervane, but Enid asked so nicely and did those little puppy dog eyes.
Larissa was shocked and mildly annoyed when Wednesday appeared in her doorway. She was already trying to deduce the new bit of trouble that the Addams girl had gotten herself into, "Ms. Addams, what can I help you with?"
Wednesday went over the script in her mind once more, absolutely disgusted with what she was going to have to say, "I wanted to ask if you would take me to the Weathervane... for that hot chocolate..."
Larissa was taken aback by Wednesday's words, almost searching for a hidden meaning. She pursed her lips, studying the young girl for a moment. Wednesday kept her head held high, seemingly proving the serious intention behind her words.
"I- Yes, Ms. Addams. Please, let me finish this email and then we can go..." Larissa had too many negative interactions with this student for her to not feel like there was an ulterior motive. Wednesday stood there expressionless as Larissa answered, making Larissa more curious as to the student's motives.
"I'll wait in the circle drive." Wednesday curtly nodded and walked from the office without another word.
When Larissa came out the front doors, keys in hand, Wednesday was waiting there patiently. They both walked to the car in silence, Larissa glancing warily at the girl from time to time. They were about halfway through the drive to Jericho when Larissa's curiosity got the best of her, "So what is this all about, Ms. Addams?"
Wednesday needed to say her next scripted line. Enid had prepared her for this question and the words felt brutal, almost causing her to gag, "I thought we could... bond."
"Now what is going on?" The words tumbled from Larissa's mouth and Wednesday made a mental note to tell Enid 'I told you so'. Wednesday had tried telling her roommate that Weems would never believe her in saying that she wanted to bond with the shapeshifter.
"I thought you would have been pleased at the thought of us putting our differences aside to share a drink a the Weathervane." Wednesday stated plainly, going off script, but she was starting to sound more like herself.
"I am, but you must admit this does sound a little odd, Ms. Addams." Larissa slowed the car to a stop and shifted the gear into park. Wednesday didn't reply, instead she just pushed the car door open and stepped out. She closed the car door behind herself and began walking, leaving the taller woman to catch up.
Principal Weems fell into stride with Wednesday, her longer legs making it easy. They were across the street from the Weathervane when she saw the many Nevermore student's filling the inside of the establishment, "What is going on?"
Again, Wednesday offered no reply. They crossed the street together and Wednesday pulled the door open for Principal Weems. Her face had softened, but still no smile graced the young girl's lips.
Larissa took two strides and she was surrounded by her students. A large banner hung read 'Happy Mother's Day!' over the windows to the left. A gloved hand came to Larissa's mouth, completely shocked by the surprise from her dear students.
"Happy Mother's Day, Principal Weems!" Enid was the first to step forward, pushing her arms around the woman's waist to give her a hug. Many of the other students followed suit, either providing her with hugs or 'Happy Mother's Day' wishes. Larissa wouldn't deny that she shed many a tear on that day. She always felt like her students and staff were one big family and now she had a mother's day celebration to prove it.

When Wednesday met Divina & Yoko
Wednesday senses the presence of a siren in the back of her mind, a song echoing in the ether but un-sung. Their presence registering to her a moment too late to entirely stop a hand coming down on her shoulder.
Instinct and fond memories of practice send a silver punch dagger from her sleeve into her grasp, the silver is hot on her skin as she makes what should have been a warning jab at the intruders stomach. Instead her blade is caught in a scaled palm and she finally registers the sharp eyed, squared jawed interloper to her space. Eyes swimming with the darkness of the ocean but for a glinting light in the depth like an angler fish.
They hold her dagger for only a moment, just long enough to make it clear they are letting it go at the same time as they released Wednesday's shoulder. The silver sliding across scaled hand and drawing a thick line of blood as they come to a stop, eyes locked in the brickwork hallways.
"And you are," Wednesday says slowly, not entirely willing to seal the dagger away, not after that. She is not fearful, but its one of the boldest responses the otherwise mundane Nevermore had offered her so far.
She can see rows of sharp teeth as the brunette with slicked back hair says.
"Divina. and this is Yoko," She holds her bloodied hand up and a black haired vampire practically bleeds out of the shadows of the hallway. Eyes searing red even behind the black glasses and face drawn, ears long and inhuman, her forked tongue drags along Divina's palm, draining up the blood and sealing the cut.
The pair smile as Yoko's face returns to humanity as she leans on the Siren's shoulder and chuckles, "Our pup asked us to give you a warm welcome, and to show to the fencing hall."
"So Enid set you two upon me," Wednesday concluded, almost impressed as she had been when the girl had bared claw and fang rather than quail away as most did, even as the lack of fear rankled her pride.
"Oh no," The Siren intoned confidently, "She warned us about your hatred of any touch; I just underestimated it. My mistake, so I won't hold that sliver of silver against you."
Yoko's lips seemed to stretch back in a smile too deep, "So long as it doesn't find its way pointed at us again, I think we'll all get along fine."
"Shall we now..." Before Wednesday could conclude her thought, or even make a decision about what to do about the pair a chipper voice called out.
"I can't believe you guys left me to clean up the lab work, I was meant to introduce you to Wednesday!" Despite her annoyance, Enid practically skipped up to them and Wednesday once again wondered how a girl like this could even meet the gaze of an Addams.
"Yup, we made a great first impression," Divina chuckled.
Enid smiled but it was somehow off, as she answered, "Oh, that's why I smell blood on silver then?"
All three glanced at one another, but before anyone could speak Enid groaned.
"I leave you guys alone for a minute and there's an injury," She shakes her head as if despairing before smiling brightly.
"Well, at least no one's dead and the schools still standing so this went OK rather than bad. Fencing?"
The other girls nodded and Wednesday found herself following along as they casually chattered on their way to the dueling hall. One thought circling her head as they went.
'Nevermore isn't just a school, it is a home for creatures like her.
It is a placed filled with monsters.
Excellent.'
NOTES:
I don't strictly mind the premise that most of the other students are so used to conducting themselves in 'normal' situations and the like that they would find Wednesday scary.
But I also think its a bit of a missed opportunity not to lean into the fact that for the first time more or less, Wednesday is dealing with other beings just like her, minus the presence of her family and that some might be able to keep up with her.
Also I maintain the reason Wednesday 'covered' for Enid in regards to the hospitality thing is cos she was surprised and a little flabbergasted Enid stood up to her when ever gorgons flee her gaze. She doesn't now quite how to feel about it, but she'll be damned if she's let's anyone think she didn't know what to do.

The Wing Spiker And The Libero
Ryunosuke Tanaka X Male!Reader
Word Count: 1412
Requested: Anon
Request: can i req tanaka x male reader who’s a libero for fukurodani, they are both painfully obviously crushing for each other hard and it kills their teammates, so they keep tryna set them up together during the training camp with many failed attempts until they eventually get together yk 🫶🏼🫶🏼
Tumblr media
You dove down getting the ball back in the air for your team, pushing yourself up onto your feet in record time ready for the next hit back, with Komi getting ready to graduate they were putting you out on the field more since you were the only other Libero that they had. You caught sight of the ball coming back over “Got it!” You yelled, passing it back forward to Akaashi who set the ball for Bokuto who gave an amazing line shot. “Guys did you see that!?” Bokuto asked, you could have sworn you saw stars in his eyes. “I saw Bokuto.” Akaashi gave a small smile at his hyper friend. “(Y/N) that was pretty amazing.” Washio clapped your shoulder and you smiled. “It’s nothing.” You waved him off. “You guys done congratulating each other!?” Kuroo called over and you shrugged. “Might take a little longer.” You shrugged as you walked to the back line again as Washio got ready to serve. The game continued back and forth for a few minutes before you came off court for a minute, you grabbed some water eyes scanning the other games briefly “how are the other teams doing?” “Kurasuno is doing pretty good.” Komi answered, “you could probably learn something from their Libero if you watched him.” “Who’s the guy he's jumping around with?” You asked as you watched the two boys in question. “That’s they’re wing spiker. He’s pretty good too.” Komi answered. “He’s pretty cute.” You smiled as you watched him hit another spike “there’s a lot of power behind that spike.” His eyes connected with yours briefly before the coach called out for you to rejoin the game.
“Dude you good?” Noya asked as he looked at Tanaka. “Do you know who that is?” Tanaka asked as he pointed over at where you were. “Huh? He’s the Libero for Fukurodani.” He answered as you jogged back onto the court stretching as you crouched low, ready for whatever came your way. “Yeah but do you know his name?” Tanaka asked. “No… Why do you wanna know?” Noya asked as he watched his best friend. “You think he’s cute?” “You know my heart belongs to Kiyoko.” He dismissed the question but Noya just smirked as we walked over to his upperclassman to inform them of his discovery.
You were sitting at lunch, most of your team going off to do their own things, while you watched playbacks of yourself to try and figure out how you could be better. “You seem like you never stop working.” You jumped at the sound of the new voice, you looked over and saw the libero from Kurasuno. “Oh hi, you're the libero from Kurasuno right?” You asked. “Names Yu Nishinoya.” He introduced himself and you smiled. “(Y/N) (L/N).” You put down the tablet that you were watching your plays on. “I was told that I could learn something from you, based on what I’ve seen you guys do on the court. That's probably true.” “Oh yeah, I guess.” Noya scratched the back of his head. “Well when you have the time I’d love to practice with you.” you said and he nodded. “Sure! We could go now if you want, I’ll get my buddy Tanaka to spike for us.” He pointed over his shoulder at the wing spiker you had seen him with before and you nodded. “Sure, let's go.” You nodded. “Hey Tanaka, are you busy?” Noya asked. “No dude what’s up?” He asked. “We need someone to spike for us.” Noya said, you waved when he glanced back to see who else was with his friend. “Oh yeah sure!” Tanaka cheered. “Bet you can’t wait to see my spikes up close and personal!” “Actually I did see your spikes today. I want to know if I can get that back in the air.” You answered with a wink. “Well let’s see how good you are.” Tanaka smirked as he shoved the rest of his food into his mouth. “Do you want to wait a little while, surely you're just going to feel sick if you jump around after eating like that.” You suggested putting your hands up as you walked forward. “Nah I’ll be fine.” He waved you off. Turned out that after about 30 minutes of training he found out that he was not fine but that was the start of your long distance friendship with Tanaka and Noya.
The next time that you both saw each other, you had gained a lot more muscle mass and had a few tricks up your sleeve. You had seen them on the TV and were sad for them when they didn’t make it to nationals. “(Y/N)?” Tanaka asked as you grabbed your bag from the couch. “Oh hey!” You waved as you looked at him, he was still as attractive as he was before, you scratched the back of your head as his eyes seemed to travel your body “are you okay?” “Oh… Yeah um… You look good.” He finally said. “Well you don’t look too bad yourself.” You smiled. “Tanaka, would you help me with something?” Kiyoko called from the coach. “Oh sure thing!” He called running off before you could say anything else. “Are you going to tell me what that was?” Bokuto asked. “What are you talking about Bokuto?” You asked as you turned away from the wing spiker. “Come on!” Bokuto wrapped an arm around your shoulder. “What are you doing Bokuto?” Akaashi asked. “Fabricating connections.” You answered, shrugging away his arm and walking towards the bedroom. “Bokuto, what were you talking about?” Akaashi asked as you walked away from them. “He likes Tanaka.” Bokuto muttered. “Who does?” They both jump at the voice of Sugawara. “Are you talking about (Y/N)?” “What does it matter to you?” Bokuto asked with a pout. “Well what if I said that I had a plan to get them together?” Suga asked. “You do?” Bokuto asked. “We really shouldn’t interfere.” Akaashi warned them but he knew that he lost them when they started talking in hushed whispers and giggling to themselves.
Over the next couple of days you were forced to sit with Tanaka and practice with Tanaka, it wasn’t like you didn’t enjoy it but you knew that something was wrong. The thing that actually brought you both together was Tanaka falling on the court during one of your late night practices, you had been watching the game since your time was taking a break, so you saw him go down hard, his teammates helped him over to the bench and Akaashi was the one who called you over “if I remember rightly you were taking a course for sports injuries and first aid.” “Yeah, what’s hurt?” You asked. “It’s nothing… I just went down a bit hard, you know after some rest I’ll be fine.” He answered, waving you off and you smiled. “Alright, will you let me check though just to be sure?” You asked. “Fine.” He mumbled as you ushered the others off, you started to check the knee that he had used to catch himself. “Have you noticed that they are acting weird?” You asked. “Yeah.” He nodded “they keep making us spend time together, we’re already friends I don’t know what they’re trying to do.” “That might be my team's fault, sorry about that.” You scratched the back of your head and reached into the first aid kit to grab an ice pack. “My team is doing it too.” He answered. “Yeah…” You nodded. “What?” He asked. “Alright if I tell you what’s going on you have to promise not to hate me.” You said sitting cross legged in front of him. “I don’t know if I can hate you.” He answered. “They’re doing this because they found out that I like you and they think that they can get us together.” You mumbled playing with your hands. “You like me?” He asked. “You don’t have to like me back it’s just, they’ll get the message eventually-” “I never said that I didn’t like you.” He frowned. “You never said you did.” You argued and he nodded. “I do.” He said softly. “So..?” You asked. “So let’s do something about it.” He suggested leaning forward, you moved your position so that you were leaning up towards him. Sure, let's do something about it.” You said softly, pressing a kiss to his lips.

That´s how — Kageyama Tobio Oneshot
hi there!!!
I have english and spanish writing commissions open, I don´t do just writting, but translating and essays and stuff. So if you want, you can always ask!
-------
Internally, Kageyama had a big uncomfortability feeling in that moment. He had been rejected by Yachi, who always helped both him and Hinata with english tests.
Hinata asked for Yachis´s help too but, because of her lack of time, she had to choose between them.
—So, Yachi-chan?— Hinata asked her, while he was staring at Kageyama, who was by his side. Kageyama also gave himself permission to stare at his new english rival.
—I…— while she tried to speak, Kageyama stared at her now, unintentionally scaring her.
And, being honest, choosing between a sunshine vibes boy and someone who seems capable of cutting off your arm with just a look, just like Kageyama, there is a difference, isn´t it?
For Yachi, that difference was extremely clear.
—Kageyama-kun— she said, and Kageyama could feel that shining look in his own eyes. But Yachi kept talking— … I´m sorry, really— Hinata literally jumped in joy while screaming with exclamation, making everyone near them stare on the jumping guy. Kageyama just sighed in answer.
—Stop doing that, Hinata, you have everyone´s attention now!
So that conversation was highly in discussion later, with the club members. Everyone was talking about who could help Kageyama to not fail english again.
—Well, I don´t know. It´s not like you can just spin a rulette with every student and choose one of them— Suga said, while Daichi was looking pretty worried.
Yachi was giving all their respective bottles to the team, and then her brain just formulated a brilliant idea.
—Spinning…— Yachi said, loudly enough for everyone hearing her. Those who were discussing, took place between the other guys who were staring at the youngest manager.
—What´s wrong with that?— Daichi asked.
—Oh, nothing. I just remembered something. I didn´t said nothing before because I haven´t think about it, but…
—¨but…¨?— Kageyama asked.
—There is this girl on class, who has been given lots of extra credits because she is… super cool with lenguages in general— when she said that, Sugawara reacted.
—Are you talking about y/s y/n? I know her— The third year said, while he was making obvious signs to Daichi to understand, but he didn´t.
—I have no idea about it but…
—Oh! Is the sixth girl!— Tanaka said while looking at Nishinoya.
—Six… Sixth on what?
—Oh, there is just… sometimes we guys think about wich girls would we date, for me and my brother right here, she is the number six.
—Is that girl, that japanesse and english teachers use as an example, remember, Daichi? ¨Even when she is younger than you!¨ and such.
Daichi opened his eyes twice as before.
—No way! People says that she just never opens a book before those tests…
—How is someone who doesn´t study, helping me to study?— Kageyama asked, and he was right.
—Well, you can ask her for help.
—Would she help me? I just… don´t even know her.
—Of course she will!— or not. Yachi didn´t really knew that.
—Another question— Kageyama said— Why do you thought of her because of ¨spining¨?
That question was actually interesting, so interesting that everyone just stared at Yachi to know the answer. And this last one just started talking as it was so obvious:
—Oh, y/n-san is always spinning her pens, or pencils… or whatever. I don´t know but, it looks cool.
Everyone had a little smile on their faces, thinking about Yachi´s thoughts simplicity. She noticed this somehow, and started taking notes while noticing she was blushing a little.
—————
So, y/n was still at school that afternoon, and that was a true crime for her, because she didn´t want to be here but, she had to stay because she promissed to help some guys on her friend´s club.
Anyway, she finally was allowed to go home early if she talked with their titular teacher who was apparently in the school yard.
The question was, where in the yard, right? No one specified nothing and she was revising every place she went, but couldn´t find no one.
So when she saw a girl putting watter in lots of bottles, she couldn´t help asking.
—I´m sorry but, I haven´t seen nobody— the girl said with dissapointment in her voice.
—It´s fine, I´ll just keep looking, he has to be somewhere— y/n said.
—O-oh, y/n-san!
—Yes?
—Would you do me a favor?— y/n just stared at her for a moment, and Yachi kept talking— One of the volleyball club members needs your help to studying english… would you mind…?
She were so exhausted she couldn´t say no, somehow. And… what would you lose by helping someone?
—I guess I could— Yachi celebrated internally, and y/n helped her taking those water bottles to the final destiny at the volley club.
Yachi called Kageyama to introduce him to you. He went with both of you once he was replaced by Sugawara on the practice.
—Y/n Y/s— he called Y/n, just to make sure he remembered the name. And he stared at her long messy hair, thinking about that enormus bun wich was not tied by nothing but a pen. He remembered what Yachi said about that lenguage prodigy spinning pens.
—That´s me— she said. He was going to talk, but you did it first— Hitoka said you need my help in english; so, If you need my help, I could try to help.
What was that? why was this girl mixing lenguages, was she trying to challenge him?
—Eh?
—Nothing, I said I´ll help you as long as I can. And as long as you follow my exigences…
Kageyama made himself quiet but, he imediately started trying to talk to you again.
—Uh, do you want me to pay you? or…
—Oh, no. I´m just making my classmate a favor, why would I take your money? I was talking about you going to my house, I just need to know when we´ll start.
—Oh, fine.
—When is the test?
—In three days.
—Okay then, so we are starting tommorrow.
—So soon?
—So soon.
Finally, after that chat, Y/n decided to give him her Line code to contact him and make sure he did know where her house was. She didn´t had nothing but that old pen in her hair, so she used that on his arm to write her code.
And now, he was outside Y/n´s home, in front of a huge garden were the only presence between both teenagers were two big and pretty scary dogs and a medium one.
So… what now? He asked himself. But after two seconds he remembered he had her line and he could contact her.
He inmediately told her he was out of her house, so he could go there and… protect him.
He just needed to send that little message. After two seconds, that girl went out there and calmed down the dogs, impressing the tall one… She looksed that she always was so calm that she could calm anyone down.
A relaxing aura.
—Hey— he said, trying to say hello somehow, and also a little jealous of her being so magnetic and relaxing for everyone, but he was pretty clad for being the center of her attention that afternoon.
That girl was dressed up with a long slided shirt extremely oversized and just shorts… and som sort of flip flops. Kageyama thought she was just as relaxed as her school self.
—Come here, they won't hurt you if you are not afraid of them— she said to him, while she was holding her biggest dogs collar with her hands completely flexed. Tobio noticed this, and he thought for a moment that dog could bring her down to the floor if he wanted to— Come on, Kageyama.
He didn't want to desobey her, so he just walked into the house. That house was as simple as her, it was warm, a family home. Apparently, his new teacher had a huge garden. A lovely one.
While he wasn't looking, she put the TV on.
—I should have imagined…— Kageyama complained, but Y/n heard that, so she continued the conversation.
—Don't tell me… or better do, what have you heard about me?
—That you never study, or stuff like that. You know what? I don't think this is not…
—I don't, at least not like they do… but I don't think you should go, King.
He turned around for a moment, looking at her with no mercy in his eyes.
—Don't call me that, never.
She smiled at him, and also invited him to sit with her.
—You can tell me about it… in english. And I'll give you my own tecniques.
Kageyama raised an eyebrow, what was she saying? She knew he did not like that name? Or was she joking? What was he hearing from her?
—Want to pass that exam, Kageyama? You don't need to think about you, just… thnk on your team. Come on, man. Come here.
He showed her a frown, as he was telling her not to try to convince him anymore.
But she just winked at him.
—In my experience, talking to someone will help you like three times a book can. Trust me.
—Why sould I?
—Because… oh! Yes, because you need to pass.
Kageyama frown at first. but he immediately sigh at Y/n, when she stared at him with a smile.
—Mine are not empty words. Let me hear what bothers you, what do you think, what did you do at practice today… tell me all those things. Watching movies is also a better idea to learn lenguages, did you know?
—How would I learn like that?
She smiled and patted the empty place next to her. He felt like he was losing some sort of competition, but he just obeyed her.
—I'm not going to judge you at all... I'm going to tell you some things about me. I think we could be pretty good friends— Y/n said, with a pretty wide smile.
—Why do you say that?
—I like you, you apparently don't like me but you still came, just because of your team.
He ended up telling her lots of things, eventually the movies where left to the end, because they were extremely concentrated on talking to each other. Y/n didn't allow him to speak japanesse that afternoon, so he had to learn a couple of things.
After that day, he opened his text book, and he got surprised because of understanding a little more than before... was she the solution? Was she a genius?
He went to school pretty confident when he had that test. Because he had been studying hard with Y/n all those days... it was awesome somehow, he didn't understand most of words at first... but then, structures and grammar just came to his head and he started to recognise some sort of... algorithms.
He finally did it. Kageyama passed.
—Look at this, Y/n! I did it great!— he showed his 78 out of 100 in his english test, super proud of it.
You smiled to him, with lots of simplicity in her eyes. He felt a little embarassed.
—What did I told you?
—I'm... I'm sorry for thinking about you as an asshole at first. Really.
—It's fine. No one thinks I'm serious. But don't say anything to the teachers, they could do bad things to me...
—Bad things?
—Or at least give me, I don't know, more difficult tests.
Kageyama nodded with shine in his eyes.
—Don't worry! Even if someone told them, you would ace those exams too!
Now, you were a little embarassed.

(Making up a match here 😐)
It was 24-22, Karasuno in the lead, Nekoma closing the distance slowly. The 'monster duo' had been testing Nekoma with quick attacks, and almost perfectly receiving, Nishinoya and Yaku were having a silent battle of who could return the most balls. Bothing thinking it was one-sided.
The match was for fun but a few people came to watch (is this even allowed) because the game wasn't held in a private gym (really making a way for you ig) and any passerby could slip in.
At Nekoma's match point, Kageyama set a ball across the court as Hinata ran up to the net preparing to spike, but landed to the ground as the ball sailed past him to Tanaka, who scored their winning point.
The game hadn't lasted very long, Hinata's decoy had caught a few people of guard which ended in Karasuno's favor.
The crows cheered for vicotry, while Hinata suddenly turned to wave towards a boy who both teams noticed to look around their age.
Sugawara saw this and nudged Daichi,
"Have you seen him before?"
"Hinata must know him from somewhere- what are you doing...?"
Daichi turned to Kuroo staring at you then throwing his hands up.
"Am I the only person who sees this as a recruitment opportunity? He came to watch us, right?"
Yaku walked by and handed Kuroo a towel, "Yeah, kinda losing faith in Lev..."
"Don't bother strangers, Kuro."
"He's leaving anyway, or I think he is, what door is that?"
-Cut to Lev sulking in the corner growing mushrooms-
Daichi looked towards the door you left through, which leads to the court...? (I have no clue what I'm doing)
And in full glory, resting bitch face and no shits to give, you walked onto the court and yelled,
"Shoyo!! Spike!"
"Shoyo? That's Hinata, right?"
He was all the way on the other side of the gym room but heard you fully, breaking into a run towards you.
"(m/n)! Receive!"
You held your arms out with an indifferent expression as Hinata came crashing into you.
Hinata's busy-ass schedule interfered with the time you two had together, and you hadn't seen each other in awhile.
You two were enjoying the presence of the other, being all wholesome and "I missed you" "I missed you too" until Daichi had to interrupt shi- Asked Hinata who you were.
Everyone else in the gym was like "Bruh"
"Oh, Daichi! This is my boyfriend, (l/n) (m/n)."
"Heya, I'm the boyfriend."
Nekoma had already left the gym, since Karasuno was held up bc of you (Oh, wow, really 🙄)
Noya and Tanaka ran up to y'all so fast, firing questions about how you and Hinata ended up.
Noya grabbed Hinata by the shoulders which had you s h o o k-
"Hinata how long have you been hiding this from us! I feel betrayed!"
'I can't tell what he's referring to...'
You grabbed Hinata's hand and glared at the libero, a signal to let him go, which he got quickly.
Noya then walked over to Tanaka dejectedly. How could their kouhai, who was supposed to look up to them for advice, have gotten into a relationship before them?!
The calmer members of the team introduced themselves to you, as well as two girls you learned were Yachi and Kiyoko, their managers.
After all that you and Hinata stood off to the side in convorsation.
"(m/n)!" Sunshine looked into your eyes and- "Did you see me out there? What'd you think?!"
"You were freakin' awesome, Sho."
"Hell yeah!"
One of the third years you recently met, Sugawara, came up to you both.
"Hinata, Noya made a bet with Daichi and now he's paying for food, do you and (m/n) wanna come?"
"Thanks, senpai! But we have to get going."
Your eyes widened, "We do?..."
"Mhm, I've wanted to take you out! And now that you're here, don't even think about paying."
He kissed your cheek and left you slightly flustered as he quickly gathered his things. You tended to argue about who paid for stuff sometimes, and Hinata liked to get the jump on you.
(In a super civilized way and not you and Hinata agressively complementing each other type of way. Of course not.)
He jogged over to you clearly excited as put his arm around you and led you to the exit of the gym, saying goodbye to Karasuno.
Your voices faded as you left the gym, the conversation going something like this,
"So, where do you wanna go?"
"Wait- you didn't decide already?"
"I just wanna spend time with you, (m/n), so we can go wherever, as long as..."

heartbreaker, heartbroken
Summary: Drew Tanaka doesn't have time to mourn, especially when everyone believes you didn't really like him.
Warnings: Death
Rating: T
Drew Tanaka knew that it was wrong. No, that statement is inaccurate. She’s been told it’s wrong. Drew has never believed it herself.
Drew broke hearts like little children broke glow sticks—only once per person in order to make herself look better. She had a list a mile wide of the boys and girls who’d claim their affections for her. Hot, ugly, male, female—Drew didn’t care. Breaking hearts was her favorite activity.
Silena Beauregard would tell her it’s wrong, but her mother is Aphrodite. She did it all of the time. By breaking hearts, she’s getting closer to her mother.
Drew would never regret breaking someone’s heart—it’s what she always told herself. Though, as Camp Half-Blood burns the funeral pyres, Drew regrets one heartbreak.
Castor Neumann, son of Dionysus, was Drew’s latest mark. They’d been together for around a month and he was whipped. He was wide eyed and full of smiles, doing anything to please Drew. She wouldn’t admit it, but he was nice—a boy she’d actually keep around.
He died.
The attack on Camp Half-Blood killed him. Drew survived; he died. Pollux—who looks exactly like him—lived. She can’t imagine what he’s going through. Pollux glares at her from across the funeral pyre. She knows she deserves it.
Silena’s the only one who gives her condolences. Everyone else knows she was just playing him. Or, at least that’s what they think. Silena was there when she actually got blushy over him, or when Drew gushed for the first time over their kiss.
Drew would forget this, moving onto another camper soon. This war is stressful and she has no time to mourn.
