Being a papa is not that bad

Platonic relationship - Giyuu and his daughter
The girl wraps him around her little fingers and never lets go.

AN: So the age of consent in Japan was 13 til recently (it's 16 now), which is super weird, but I had to check before I wrote this to fit the KNY timeline. This is set in Taisho era so everything is legal, tyvm. Shamisen is a japanese string instrument.
Now have a hurty fluff.
Written for Girl dads collab of @suyacho
Tumblr media
Having a child before Muzan was dealt with was not in his cards, at least that's what he had thought… until a tryst with one of the kakushi happened and he was to become a father. It was humiliating - his lack of control - and the guilt he felt towards the kakushi for ruining her for any other future was great, weighing him down more than the mantle of a Pillar.
He hadn’t wanted to marry so young either, but shame would have destroyed him, his shame would have destroyed her - he thought - so he married her on a white January day, her belly round and full with his child- his child!
It was born a week after his eighteenth birthday. He wasn’t there for it. He wasn’t anywhere in the prefecture the Butterfly mansion was in either; he was on the other end of Japan taking care of a demon, while another future ghost to haunt him was being born.
Giyuu arrived back at the Water estate at the end of March, his wife sleeping beside the baby on a futon. He had only wanted to check if his wife hadn’t burned the house in his absence but the sight struck a cord in him, like a shamisen being plucked by Fate's fingers, playing him to its pleasure and none his own.
The baby was… cute; hair midnight black, tiny hand clinging to its mother’s hand, a picture of perfect innocence that reminded him of the reason why he fought so hard, why he hunted demons for living.
This. All of this.
His eyes focused on his wife; it was still strange to refer to anyone as his. Her eyes had deep bruises under them, indicating a severe lack of sleep, her hair disheveled, and sleeping yukata askew. One of her breasts had a wet spot on it - she must be dripping milk, he realized.
Giyuu had likely not seen her in a less put-together state and yet, she was pretty. His lips pressed together as he mulled over that thought, silently slipping from the room to bathe and sleep as well.
They would talk in the morning, he decided.
Tumblr media
Giyuu left three days later.
He didn’t get to speak to his wife, because the moment he stepped in to hold his baby for the first time, she gave a sigh of relief and fell asleep right away - sitting up, leaning on one of the columns holding up the roof. How could he wake her, when she was so obviously clinging to the last fraying strands of her sanity?
He took a seat beside her and stared at his child - his child.
Kocho had left him a message, somehow knowing Giyuu would have no social graces nor time to speak to his wife. It read:
Congratulations, Tomioka-san. Your baby girl was born healthy, and the name picked for her is Shizuku. Treat her well. - Kocho Shinobu
Tomioka Shizuku.
He would treasure her above himself.
Though he promised himself that, Giyuu remained mostly absent from Shizuku’s early life, working overtime to keep his prefecture as demon-free as he could; he even set up a nightly patrol near his residence with Ubuyashiki to keep his flesh and blood safe.
The times he came home, he spent every waking moment with his child - playing with her, teaching her to call him papa, to say her own name. He drew pictures with her, helped her take her first steps, took her to town on 'adventures'. He was dutiful; no matter the task, if it involved his Shizuku, his child, he would do it.
As she grew up, now nearly three years old, he often took her to the garden, training but making in fun for her - so far, Shizuku liked it the most when he did pushups and she ‘braided’ his hair while sitting on his back. She also loved to watch him practice swordsmanship, absolutely captivated by his movements with the bokken, little mouth hanging open as she sat in the shade of a tree. After his katas, which often earned him an applause for his 'performance', he had a ‘tea party’ under the same tree with her, telling her stories - embellished, of course - about his demon slaying, how he learned total concentration breathing, and other such tales from his life - all wrapped in a fairy tale way.
Giyuu thought Shizuku took them as just stories.
Until…
He was getting ready to leave - Ubuyashiki had called a Hashira meeting - when he reached for his haori only to find it gone. Frantic, his thoughts went to his wife - did she put it in the laundry? Only, checking the 'dirty' basket, it wasn’t there; checking the line of clothing hanging outside, it wasn’t there.
Where is it?!
A panicked search inside of his estate yielded nothing. He couldn’t even ask his wife because she was in the town - he was set to leave when she returned so there could always be someone in the house for Shizu-
Shizuku!
Where was she? Nowhere inside. The garden?
Giyuu swiftly made his way to the place he spent most of the time with his daughter.
Sure enough, Shizuku was there, his haori dwarfing her frame as she tried to replicate his meditation exercises. Relief flooded his chest, a smile overtaking his face as he stepped closer to her.
“I believe you have something of mine, Shizu-chan,” he said, crouching in front of her, not making any move to take his clothing back.
The little girl quickly reached behind her for the bokken - which she also stole, he noted - and leaped at him with a mighty battle cry. “I’m the great Wa’er Pillar, demon! It’s you who stole som’thing from me!”
Acting startled, Giyuu put his everything into making the landing soft for her as he ‘tumbled’ backwards, ‘crying’ out dramatically, “Oh nooo- this foe is too strong for one as puny as I! This must be my end!” His uniform was probably dusty now, but he could shake it out later.
“Ahahaha! Fear me - and die!” Shizuku had let go of the bokken during their ‘fight’ so she used her tiny fists to beat his chest, laughing and squealing in joy at having bested the ‘demon’.
Seeing her smile made his departure all the more bittersweet.
Any day he could die, but this joy would guide him in the moments he breathed.
Giyuu sat up, laying her onto his thighs and tickling her neck, a soft smile still playing on his lips at her adorable face, so much like his own. Blue eyes the same share, black hair in two small braids he had done for her that morning - his daughter.
“Now that the demon is slayed, the mighty Water Pillar needs to go on to do his job, my little clam. So I will be confiscating the haori you’re wearing,” he told her, tugging the garment off her body easily as it was so big on her, leaving her pouting.
“Do you really need to go?” Her pout was not making it any easier.
Nevertheless, he remained patient and gentle. “I’ll be back soon, so don't worry, Shizu-chan.” Giyuu picked her up with one arm, throwing the haori over his shoulder with his other hand, and carried her to the engawa. Shizuku sat dutifully and let him dust her off. “Besides, you have your mother here.”
He took off his jacket and shook out the dirt, nearly missing her whisper. “But mama is not papa.”
Giyuu put everything together on himself - her soft sniffles nearly clogging his throat with heartbreak - and crouched in front of her, taking her hands in his. “Shizu-chan, do you know what papa is?”
She nodded, “A pillar.” Tears glistened on her face.
“Yes, but papa is also brave.” What a big fat lie. “And do you know what Shizu-chan is?”
“Nu-uh.”
He squeezed her hands briefly. “You’re just like papa - a brave warrior. I need you to be brave for me, Shizu-chan. I need you to protect our home while I’m gone. Can you do that for me?”
She wiped her face with one of her sleeves and nodded. “I’ll be like papa and protec’ mama.”
“That’s my girl. I’ll be back before you know it.”
Having a child before Muzan was dealt with was not in his cards, he used to think, but perhaps, being a father was not all that bad.

Ok, let's get caught up on Disney stuff and how their 100th year has been doing.
• Strange World loses money.
• Lightyear loses money.
• They cancel the Owl House, one of their most popular shows and biggest money maker.
• The let James Gunn go. The same guy that created GOTG. One of the biggest hero films in Marvel.
• Ant Man 3 under performs. Needed 560 million to make a profit.
• The Little Mermaid under performs. Needed 560 million to make a profit.
• Elemental under performs. Didn't deserve to, by the way. Marketing just sucked.
• Indiana Jones under performs, loses money. Literally needs 600 million to break even.
• Nimona gets released and reveals Disney's homophobic side.
• Haunted Mansion is going against the Barbie Movie. So good luck.
• And now the strike is going on. Bob Iger is refusing to compromise with them.
Man, "Wish" better be one hell of a movie to restart the Disney company on a good role. And even then, Wish has competition with Trolls 3. Which seems silly to some, but take a look at how big the Trolls fandom is. How many fan fics do we have on AO3? It's a pretty fair amount, bigger than Puss in Boots. And most of us are adults. That's not counting the kids who watched the first Trolls film on Netflix so much it's on the top 10. As for the 2nd film being released when theaters were closed due to Covid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2nd film did well enough during a pandemic to gain a 3rd film.
So it is genuine competition since Trolls has a fandom behind them. Am I expecting Trolls to destroy Wish. Hell no! If anything, I'm expecting both films to do average. 200 to 300 million each. What I'm saying is "Wish" needs to be this grand finally in order to let Disney rest easy for a while. But Trolls 3 will be an obstacle.
The two golden moments Disney had were The Owl House season 3 finally. And Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, ending with a bang.

G’day, Clue Crew! Dropping in, to talk about one of my favorite artists: Alphonse Mucha. His work can be seen in several Nancy Drew games.
Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist, living in Paris during the Art Nouveau period, best known for his distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters, particularly those of Sarah Bernhardt. He produced illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, as well as designs, which became among the best-known images of the period.
The slider puzzle box, as seen above, was featured in The Final Scene. The tiles have Mucha’s Zodiac decorating them. But this was not Zodiac’s debut in a Nancy Drew game—oh, no, no, no. She can first be seen in Abby Sideris’ bedroom, in Message in a Haunted Mansion.
Tumblr media
Zodiac is again seen in the gift shop of Castle Finster in The Captive Curse.
Tumblr media
However, Zodiac isn’t the only piece of Alphonse Mucha’s work to be displayed in a Nancy Drew game. Emily Crandall, from Secret of the Old Clock, has no less than 5 Mucha pieces, in her bedroom. She displays every print from The Seasons series, on her walls.
This was Mucha's first set of decorative panels and it became one of his most popular series. It was so popular that Mucha was asked by Champenois to produce at least two more sets based on the same theme in 1897 and 1900. Designs for a further two sets also exist.
The idea of personifying the seasons was nothing new - examples could be found in the works of the Old Masters' as well as in Champenois's other publications. However, Mucha's nymph-like women set against the seasonal views of the countryside breathed new life into the classic theme. In the four panels shown here, Mucha captures the moods of the seasons - innocent Spring, sultry Summer, fruitful Autumn and frosty Winter, and together they represent the harmonious cycle of Nature.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’ll notice that the picture that “mysteriously keeps moving,” is not part of aforementioned polyptych. This Mucha piece is called Friendship. It was featured in the New York Daily News on April 3rd, 1904.
The New York Daily News referred to him as "the world's greatest decorative artist," and dedicated its Sunday Art Section to Mucha on April 3, 1904. For the illustration on the cover of that section, Mucha created a wonderful allegorical image entitled Friendship, in which America and France are each depicted as women. America, with stars on both her tiara and gown and red and white ribbons cascading from her hair, appears as the young protégé of France, who watches over her, protectively adorned with lilies in her hair and fleur-de-lys patterns on her dress. As Jirí Mucha points out, the two women are jointly "holding a wreath of lime leaves, [a] national symbol of Czechoslovakia.”
Tumblr media
I personally adore Mucha’s allegorical style and really appreciate that he’s featured in the Nancy Drew PC games. One might even argue that Art Nouveau influences us, to this day. Perhaps it even played a part in the design and illustrations of some aspects of the games. Art is always changing—artists grow upon the backs of their predecessors. Mucha is still highly influential and relevant.
His work and the style he developed during the period of 1893 to 1903 came to define an era and forever serve as an influence to future illustrators
I loved the Alphonse Mucha pieces from the PC games, long before I went to university and wrote papers, on his work. I’d like to think I, in part, owe my love of Art Nouveau, to Nancy Drew. 🔎🖼
That is all. Happy scrolling.

Whats the books about?
*Pops got a variety of genres!*
//ooc under the cut
Mod here! Don't know if this is for pops or me, so I'm answering as both!
I got the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th book of this manga called "Alice in Murderland" by Kaori Yuki, and it's about a family who adopted a bunch of kids, but is now making them fight to the death.
There are two murder mysteries, but their a different type of murder.
"Inheritance", by Nora Roberts tells the story of a young woman inheriting her late uncle's mansion, but it's haunted by the ghost of the uncle's dead wive(s?)
"Wander In The Dark" by Jumata Emill on the other hand, is about a young, black man who goes over to a rich white woman's house, but then he wakes up to find her murdered. No one believes that it wasn't him so now he has to find the real killer, all while in hiding.
Finally, we have a more lightheaded book called "The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich" by Deya Muniz, and it's about a girl who doesn't want a husband, but there's a law that states that a woman can't inherit her father's fortune. Now she's disguised as a man, but the Princess has taken a liking to her.
Sorry about the rant, I love books! :D

The Hayden Family Curse
William Henry Hayden known as Will, moved his family to Albany, Vermont in the early 1800s. He borrowed money from his mother-in-law Mercie Dale who was a widow and financially well off. Mercie moved in with the family and her money helped the family settle into this new community. Will never paid this loan back and several years later he found himself in serious financial trouble. He once again approached Mercie and requested an additional loan.
She refused and now uncomfortable moved away from the family. In the following months she was struck by an ongoing illness. Now suspicious, she accused Will of poisoning her.
In 1809, as she lay dying in the presence of her daughter Silence she uttered an ominous curse in which she declared the Hayden name would die and pass into oblivion.
“The Hayden name shall die in the third generation and the last to bear the name shall die in poverty.”
Mercie bitterly announced she refused to be buried in the Hayden family cemetery she instead requested to be interred in a neighbors’ family plot. Life went on and the curse was forgotten.
Will Hayden’s daughters all got married and supplied the couple with several grandchildren. The family’s luck and fortunes quickly took a turn for the worse.
Of the couple’s four sons all but one died young. The one that survived Henry was named after his father. He slowly started to show signs of erratic behavior.
Will and his wife Azabah became estranged after Will lost most of the family fortune. He later also lost his eyesight. Will at one point fled to Canada to avoid his creditors. He died later in New York penniless.
Will’s son Henry Jr. built an extravagantly furnished home for his family in 1854 after his father’s death.
The Henry Hayden Jr. family quickly became the envy of the neighborhood. The family would take regular pleasure rides down South Albany Road in handsome horse-drawn carriages.
Henry’s family lived comfortably with many servants to fulfill all their needs. Their annual New Year’s party held in the new mansions 3rd story ballroom with its spring suspended floor was always a big success.
As Henry Jr. continued to grow unstable his mother cut him out of the will. He had one daughter named Mamie. He died in 1910 of a cerebral hemorrhage.
Henry Jr. body was carried in a horse-drawn hearse that passed his old home on the way to the cemetery. The curtains in the windows were shut in tribute but by this time his mansion had been empty for 20 years because he could no longer afford to live in it.
Many now recalled Mercie’s curse and most believed it had taken its toll on the Hayden family.
The only Hayden left alive was Henry Jr.’s daughter Armenia or as she was known Mamie. All that was left of her inheritance was an unsavory family reputation and a large number of unpaid bills.
Ill and humiliated she moved to Waterville, Maine where she died alone in poverty in February of 1927.
She was the last victim of Merice Dale’s curse.
A family from Canada purchased the old Hayden mansion for $25,000.
Rumors started to spread that the underground tunnels that Henry Jr. had once used to smuggle illegal Chinese immigrants to supply his farmland with cheap labor were now being used for a large bootlegging operation.
This new family held dances once more in the 3rd floor ballroom. They enjoyed the social status this brought. In 1922 they sold the mansion.
Most of the subsequent owners did not have the money to maintain the old mansion. The estate was eventually sold piece by piece other parts burnt down.
The mansion abandoned for years spiraled into major disrepair.
Stories began to circulate that the old mansion located on the outskirts of town was haunted.
People passing by reported seeing strange lights. Others mentioned hearing music coming from the 3rd floor ballroom. They stated this room was brightly lit at the time they heard this music.
Some believe that the ghosts of the Chinese immigrants that Henry smuggled into the country remain. These workers were often buried in unmarked graves near the family’s farm.

Salvage Showcase: Sachi Mizuiyama
Welcome to the next showcase!! As promised I’ll be doing one on one of Danganronpa Kirigiri’s cast and what better one to start out the DRK portion than one of the more relevant side characters - Sachi Mizuiyama.
Tumblr media
The Summary
Sachi Mizuiyama debuted in Danganronpa Kirigiri in its 3rd novel and is apart of the Detective Library. She is listed under technological crime and specializes in architecture, holding the current rank of 527. Sachi was called to the Takeda Haunted Mansion Duel Noir, under the pretense of her inspecting the architecture of the building. However, she and four other detectives would find their proxy to be a no-show. After one of them, Suntetsu Shirasu, disappears, the remaining four reveal their status as detectives to each other and tried to figure out what was going on. This would lead them to a locked room that they manage to get open with help from newcomers Yui Samidare and Kyoko Kirigiri. However, when they do get it open, they find Suntetsu dead, propped up by suits of armor and impaled by a katana. No culprit in sight.
As the case progresses its discovered that Sachi, seemingly, was the one to kill the guy and is arrested, despite her panicked claims otherwise. In truth, this was a plot to lure out the true culprit, Korisu Kakitsubata, and Sachi is let go.
The next day, Kyoko calls out the remaining third party detectives from the Takeda case in order to recruit them for aid in tackling the remainder cases of the 12 Duel Noir Challenge. Sachi is hesitant and holds a bit of a grudge for being framed, but nonetheless goes and joins the group in Salvador’s car. While the girls request the other three’s aid, Sachi initially doesn’t want to, but gives in after a combination of peer pressure, hearing Salvador’s tale of his lost partner and wanting to regain some pride over the framing debacle. She opts to take on the Museum of Medieval Torture Duel Noir, since she has been at the museum before.
During this time, she uses her ability to read people and decieving even the likes of the police and uni students in order to acquire information that leads her into not only discovering the culprit, Koriyasu Karisuba, but also figuring out how he killed his target: a university professor who murdered his girlfriend. She even meets one of her teammates, Licorne, who warns her not to go too far since the others wouldn’t want there to be anymore victims...
Which leads into one of the twists for the 5th volume. Sachi is one of the 12 Victims, being a Libra and the culprit of the Libra Girls Academy Duel Noir. She killed a student she had an altercation with in the past and kidnapped two others as well for her ploy. Prior to attending to her case, she used her Ally status to gain information on both the Museum and Bar cases, as well as killing Hajiki. From there, under the guise of a Black Cape, trapped Yui and the two innocents of her Duel Noir in the academy - which used the likes of a scale trick. With help from Salvador, Yui and the others escape...only for Sachi to ambush Salvador, beating him in the head with her pipe and heavily injuring him. While Yui does manage to expose Sachi as a Victim, Sachi doesn’t care and holds her up with a nail gun. She reveals herself to be a fanatic to Gekka, the Host of the 12 Duel Noir Challlenge, not wanting him to step down from his role as an Executive for the Victims Catharsis Committee. Ultimately, interference by the Mystery Research Society Sal brought with him has her knocked out and arrested. In jail, she gives out the information of the two Duel Noirs she looked into, wondering if Yui’s method is right before hanging up to face law’s judgement.
As a person, Sachi is cautious, keen and holds a fierce deception game with a knack for reading people. She can quickly get a read on the character of a person and exploits it to gain advantage in her situation, easily crafting lies on the spot to get people to drop their guard. In contrast, she is also adept at hiding her true nature up until she needs to personally get involved. While she tries to hold up a front of being a dutiful, if reluctant, prideful and easily flustered, detective that loves her culture and even a bit of a romantic (if her interaction with Salvador was genuine), behind it is a woman that holds a fierce, crazed, murderously loyal, devotion to Gekka - the person she admires the most since he embodies upholding conviction the most from what she ‘read’ from him. A trait that she herself admits she lacks, which is why she can’t be someone of justice. When it comes to this she holds no care for others lives or even her own Catharsis, valuing only the person she holds dear and only wants to give him the Catharsis that she believed he deserved.
The Rundown
In DRK one of the main themes concerning the novels concerns what drives a detective forward. For Yui Samidare its justice, for the seedier individuals it would be fame and prestige from their Library rank.In this case of Sachi her drive and theme is attachment. Though if you want to go further, its ‘toxic attachment’ or even ‘parasocial attachment’.
Now Sachi as a concept is also interesting since she serves as a foil to Yui. What do you get when you have Yui, who holds an utter passion for justice and protecting nature for those she cares about, but boil it down to just the latter trait? Well, you get Sachi - a person that can empathize with those she’s attached to and think of them worthy of being saved, but has no real concern for those who are outside that attachment. AKA pretty much everyone else that are not Gekka.
Anything for someone that, as far as the novels go, she actually doesn’t have a real bond with. Sachi is giving it her all to someone who she knows nothing of personally aside from his image and in turn he knows nothing personal of her. She’s more akin to an obsessed fangirl in that regard or thrall if you want to fit in with the Triple Zeroes having a monster/supernatural theme to them. This contrasts greatly with Yui doing her best try and save people from the Duel Noir. She doesn’t know them personally, but its her care for the lives of others that has her try to ensure their safety, instead of measuring their worth based on a personal standard. A line that separates selfishness (Sachi) and selflessness (Yui). It’s also ironic that Sachi, someone who knows little of Gekka personally, is willing to go through extreme lengths to stop someone who actually has met Gekka and know of him long enough have some sort of respectful relationship with, even if they were enemies. Heck, on thate note, Sachi even seemed jealous of Yui for it, wondering why it couldn’t have been her chosen instead.
Both Sachi and Yui even contrast design wise. Yui is a girl of moderate-reasonably taller stature that has athletic legs. One of her deign choices is that she wears shorts instead of the usual school skirt, better suited for her detective work and showcasing more of her unorthodox nature in a profession full of people either lost their way or not really doing it for justice. Frequently throughout the novel, we get to see just how caring she is and willing to help those in need, holding a virtuous heart inspite of being unconventional looking and wouldn’t want to harm anybody if she could help it. Sachi, meanwhile, is a short woman dressed in kimono, seemingly weak, and appears as traditionally elegant as one could get. Yet, by her actions, it shows that such a design is hiding her twisted emotions and how the seemingly traditional look is not as benevolent as it seems. She holds no care for those outside of Gekka, and is not above brutally attacking and killing people with blunt force if necessary.
There’s also a degree of tragedy in here given that Sachi goes through great lengths, effectively ruining her life for someone she rarely knows. She kills two people in cold blood, gravely wounds a third, kidnaps two that didn’t have anything to do with her plight beforehand and was planning on keeping Yui hostge. She did all of this, only for the audience to find out later on that Gekka died before the girls even reached his castle. She gave her all for someone that was already dead before she knew it. Effectively making her actions pointless.
Personal Thoughts
Now, what do I think about Sachi? Well, its  of a bit of Madarai situation where I can appreciate the concept surrounding her and, unlike the Madarai, I do like her personality....just not so much the execution concerning her roles in the story.
Tumblr media
Sachi’s case is...weird. You see, when you have the summary in mind and knowledge of her role in 3 out of 7 of the novels, on-paper everything seems to click. But its when you prod at each novel case by case does things fall apart. Sachi appears in the ending case of Volume 3. While she was the framed party for the case, ultimately she, Salvador and Hajiki mostly take a backseat as the cases’s third parties, good for some more worldbuilding or alibi piecing together, but not much in the way of development yet.
Volume 4 sees a bit more of her character shown off such as her cautious nature, love of Japanese culture and even how much she values her pride in terms of being slighted. But volume 4 is not focused on her. Hajiki and her leave the novel early on in favor or Kyoko, Yui and Salvador getting spotlight with their cases and stories.
It isn’t until volume 5 where I can consider Sachi to be a fully fleshed out character since we get her background concerning her counselor life, how she handles investigations, own philosophy concerning her ‘readings’ and, naturally, her attitude as a devoted fan of Gekka and ruthless Victim. The problem with her comes when you try and stick the reveal portions of her character with her prior depictions. They don’t feel cohesive and for several reasons.
1. Sachi’s role in 3/4 is greatly lower than that of most of her teammates, only barely beating out Hajiki in terms of character relevance and scenes at this point. And this is to be expected given the others are the main characters, a Triple Zero and the partner of a dead side character. Sachi never had time to shine much until 5, but this also means that (if the twist planned in advance mind you...and personally I think otherwise) her reveal as a villain was going to be rocky from the get go.
2. The ‘foreshadowing’ of her villain status is...shaky. Now I don’t want to say, ‘oh its just Volume 5 where it hinted’, since looking at volume 4 (with the benefit of hindsight) you could probably guess she’s suspicious given that she joins the team last and maybe for not wanting to believe Gekka is a criminal. But in defense of that, it was never really was a stand-out extent and even Hajiki/Salvador didn’t quite want to believe Gekka was crooked. Vol 5 is where it's more concrete, like bringing up her school counselor status, using a pipe which is the Libra Girls’s weapon of choice or Lico’s line, but I also feel it still isn’t enough to match with how drastically she changes and her motivation reveal. Actually, that might just be the biggest ‘sin’ here...
3. The reveal set in place is too drastically different for her character to take on to really match her character. It feels tacked on, partly for the sake of an out of left field swerve and partly a reason I’ll get to later. For the former it kind of leaves a bad taste for me since it feels like the story is kicking you for being sane and agreeing with logic that itself set up. ‘Yes, DRK, I should have pieced together that one of the three guys in the 3rd novel who, according to the Duel Noir set-ups, was specifically a framed party meant to go to prison for Korisu and with logic from Kyoko herself stating that she was very likely not to be a culprit or with the enemy.... just so happened to be a culprit in the Challenge and supports the enemy!’ forgive me for expecting the author wouldn’t be the type to do this. It does a disservice to both the reader and even Kyoko since its not a twist that happened based on the cast making a logical mistake or not considering the options but the wriitng equivalent of the author going back on their word. It also makes the story feel rather contrived considering how unlucky the others were to just so happen to have the enemy just so happens to be in another active Duel Noir.
3. Too much roles at once. She’s a member of the Allied Detectives, except she’s actually a Victim...oh no wait that’s not actually important. She’s a devotee for Gekka....for some reason. She has never shown this level of insane passion beforehand. And now she’s out of the story for good. You can see the issue right? She’s slotted into too many parts, with both the Victim and Fangirl role being slotted in abruptly late in volume 5 to ever feel natural. It’s even worse for the former because not even the story gives a shit about that role, in preference for the Gekka reveal...which doesn’t work given the aformentioned lack of buildup or naturalness to it. It’s less of enhancement to Sachi’s character and more of another piece the author seemed in a hurry to shove in.
4. Now for the other partial reason why I think her villain status exists, and it kind goes back to the unused potential of the other recruits, Salvador and Hajiki. DRK is a story centered around both Yui and Kyoko. While others like Lico and the VCC Executives exist and can have their own stories told, its centered about those two first and foremost. While the Challenge required helpers to aid them since they couldn’t tackle all twelve realistically, the issue comes with utilizing the Recruits beyond it in a story mostly centered about the mentioned two. An issue that the author likely opted to resolve by just writing them out as fast as he could. Perhaps plans had to be changed and/or maybe the author didn’t quite know how to get these guys out of the stories cleanly, but I believe Sachi being a villain that takes out Hajiki and Sal was a hasty way of getting all three recruits out wihout stopping to wonder about their contributions to the story.
Dead, hospital or, in Sachi’s case, prison. It would explain why the story brushes aside her being a Victim with ‘Gekka may/may not have pulled some strings’, she herself having no care or bothering to explain her past with her Target (which stands out sorely considering every other Victim in this story is very affected by their lives being wrecked by their Targets), and the whole abrupt nature of her Gekka’s devotee reveal. It feels unnatural because its likely the author’s way of getting her out immediately nstead of a more organic method.
Something that is kind of upseting since I really love the Allies recruited for the 12 Duel Noir Challenge, Sachi included because it gave the sense of proper escalation. The girls can’t take down a crime organization by thesemselves so gaining detectives they know are clean (at least that was the plan) was a nice step towards maybe forming their own organization of stopping the Duels. Being more strategic in their planning and proactive? We can even explore more group dynamics now and see how their different specliazations clash or enhance their investigations? Nope. In about two days their new team went from six back to one so darn quick its unreal. It’s sad and reeks of so much more, but its a done deal.
Beyond her roles, I really do love Sachi’s personality. She’s a smol woman whose quick wits and improv tongue can get in her good graces or out of jams. It’s really enjoyable! What’s not to like!
Tumblr media
Another showcase down, hopes these are enjoyable for you guys. For the next one, a look into a character from the manga of Killer Killer!

if i wrote a sequel to worse than ghosts that's lowkey inspired by haunted mansion (2023), who should the villain be?
also there's a little taste of the potential sequel below the cut 🫶🏻 i went into a fugue state and wrote this (warnings for mentions of sex). sorry for the inconsistency, the original series was written in past tense, 3rd person but I don't do that for x reader fics anymore 🫶🏻
“I booked our room very, very far from theirs,” you tell your boyfriend, nodding in the direction of your friends. “We don’t want a repeat of the Stanley Hotel.”
“What happened at the Stanley Hotel?” Will asks.
“Don’t worry about it,” Steve grumbles, the tips of his ears flushing red as he snatches your hotel keycard from Jonathan’s waiting hand.
You shudder at the memory. After a long night of investigating the haunted hotel that inspired “The Shining,” Robin, Argyle, and Jonathan headed to your Winnebago to smoke the devil’s lettuce and watch the sunrise. You and Steve, who hadn’t had a moment alone the entire road trip, retired to your hotel room to dance the devil’s tango.
Poor, sweet, clueless Argyle went back up to his hotel room to work on his new Surfer Boy Ghost-Catching Net. In his inebriated state, he heard the moaning from the adjoining, supposedly haunted hotel room, and thought it was a ghost.
He burst through the adjoining door without knocking, shouting for the ghost dudes to, “Leave my brochachos alone,” and caught you and Steve in the middle of a passionate, intimate moment. There was a lot of panicked screaming from all three parties, and in your rush to shield your body from Argyle, you got tangled in the sheets and rolled off the bed.
Even worse, your screaming caught the attention of every tourist and ghost hunter on your floor, who simultaneously started up fifteen spirit boxes right beside your door to try and communicate with the “spirits.”
It was mortifying. Argyle couldn’t look you or Steve in the eyes for six months. Now, every time you all stayed in a hotel or motel on one of your trips, you made sure to keep your distance from the rest of the group.

Another 31 days of Spooky Movies done! The rules for the list is 1. No repeats in between years! If you watch a movie you've watched before, it doesn't count. 2. You need to watch 31 movies in the Month of October (ideally one a day if possible. There have been years I have been on backpacking trips that I watched extra movies in advance). 3. The movie must be horror or halloween themed. It can have monsters/body horror and still count (So Monsters Inc would technically count!) This is the 9th year I've done this. I rank movies on a + / = / - scale, with a movie that gets at least a + being a movie I would recommend, and a movie with a - being a movie I'd tell people to avoid. = I don't have strong feelings on. This year didn't have any +++ movies like most other years did, but there were also less stinkers in the bunch. Anyways, here's my list for this year.
You’re Next (October 1st) ++ Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein (October 2nd) + X (October 3rd) =  The Wolf Man (1941) (October 4th) - M3GAN (October 5th) +  Totally Killer (October 6th) + The Mummy (1932) (October 7th) +  Pearl: An X-trodinary origin story (October 8th) + The Comedy of Terrors (October 9th) = Renfield (October 10th) +  The Raven (1963) (October 11th) =  Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (October 12th) ++ Jason X (October 13th) + The Parasite Murders (October 14th) = Phantasm (October 15th) ++  I know what you did last summer (October 15th) ++  SHOCK (October 16th) -  Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (October 17th) + Death Spa (October 18th) = Haunted Mansion (2003) (October 19th) = Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (October 20th) - Popcorn (October 21st) =  Drag Me To Hell (October 22nd) + The Invisible Man (1933) (October 23rd) ++ The Company of Wolves (October 24th) + Children of the Corn (2020) (October 25th) - Haunted Mansion (2023) (October 26th) = Tremors (October 27th) ++ Werewolves Within (October 28th) + Freddy vs Jason (October 29th) + The Fog (1980) (October 30th) +  Halloween (October 31st) +

How about culture osmosis for the sims series?
Ohhh boiiii this brings back memories
Also there's a fandom for sims??? It's something that is really hard for me to imagine honestly
Anyway it will not quite be osmosis because I've spent countless hours playing the first three versions of the Sims back in the day when I actually had time to not try be productive in some way any waking moment. The Sims are in my heart ❤️
Apparently, the Sims has lore. The games aren't in chronological order either, for the reason I can't understand for the life of me. Like the 3rd game is the 1st one in the timeline?? Then 1st then 2nd
You can get this from reading character descriptions for characters already in the game. Who reads them though??? Why would you wanna read them and not immediately go build a lavish mansion or design 3000 characters to give them rugs to riches life story?
There's like this elaborate thing where it's unclear who built Pleasantview because two old rich families both fit the description. I guess that matters XD
Too many people enjoyed killing their sims in scary torturous ways. Y'all are ok? never did that, even as a kid, i felt bad for all my sims and never let them die (or even age lol)
Making Magic was The Best Thing???? It was so cool I'm still remembering it fondly, especially the baby dragons and this fucked up little lunapark ride shaped like a clown's head
Speaking of clowns, there's a clown that appears if your sims' mood is down, and he will not leave, will cough sadly, and only bring the character's spirits down more
There's also a humanoid bear with a little red bow on her ear. She eats trash ❤️
There is a guinea pig flu in the first game and it's lethal for sims. Clean your pet's cage, kids
Sims 1 robber music theme still haunts my nightmares
In Sims 2 you can be abducted by aliens and later give birth to a green baby (and i think it was true regardless of gender but i might be wrong). Don't look in the telescope too often, mate. Or do, if you're into that sort of thing XD
The Sims2 University makes it possible for you to undress and run around campus naked, dancing in front of your peers
Having a bath in a hot spring in rain will result in being struck by lightning
Some sims want to be struck by lightning So Bad
The most interesting part of Sims3 was collecting rocks and I'm not even slightly joking
There are different types of ghosts and they're all different colors, which slaps
I think some of these games allow you to own a horse?????

Hidden Gems by secretsalex
This series wouldn’t be complete without some good dark-ish food, and I can’t think of anyone better than secretsalex to illustrate that. I know I can trust their stuff whenever I’m in the mood for something edgy and more mature, because they always deliver suspense angst, sometimes borderline creepy and problematic, but oh so very intense and satisfying! I remember the thrill of reading In Our Blood for the first time; I had never seen such an intriguing take on Mpreg, and the immersive world building blew me away, I just couldn’t stop reading. Also can’t praise enough these rare pair treats with A+ characterization and unapologetically kinky smut, they’re so freaking hot 🔥 I don’t know how secretsalex packs so much character and tension in those short reads, very impressive. Last but not least, Beltane is an absolute must read for those who enjoy high stakes war angst and doomed spy!Draco romance, just brilliant. Enjoy!
Drarry
Between Two Fires of Beltane (2017, E, 4.7k) - my favorite! War fic, spy!Draco, rough sex, excellent angst with an open ending.
As the war drags on, Draco becomes a spy for Voldemort and works his way into Harry’s good graces—and his bed. When the Order prepares to invade Malfoy Manor, Draco is forced to examine his loyalties. Read my rec here.
Lemon Tarts (2017, E, 11.6k) - Auror partners wooing with fat appreciation, feeding kink, dirty talk 🔥
Harry's jeans are getting tight. Draco loves it.
In Our Blood (2018, E, 38k) - their most popular fic with good reason! Creepy and atmospheric, haunted houses, pregnant Draco, established relationship. Brilliant! Cw: recreational drug use, discussions of abortion
Draco is an accomplished pure-blood curse breaker, and Harry is tasked with accompanying him on his latest job—cleaning up the Van Boer mansion, which has been under a devastating fertility curse for seven generations. Read my rec here.
Rare pairs
Behind the Curtains (2017, E, 1.6k) - secret Draco/Blaise, Hogwarts 3rd year, humping with feels
If they don't actually touch, they aren't actually fucking.
A Carnival Mirror (2017, E, 3.5k) - delicious Dralbus UST! Chubby Albus, smooth Draco, praise kink
Albus Severus is nothing like his father. It’s all those differences that Draco can’t stop thinking about.
To the Vagaries of the Young (2017, E, 4.5k) - one of the hottest Dralbus fics I’ve ever read, period. Cw: dubcon, humiliation
Draco makes Albus an offer, and Albus takes him up on it. He doesn’t need the money, so what’s in it for him?

Spooky St. Paul 👻
Tumblr media
This lovely Victorian mansion in St. Paul, MN, (home of the Miss Fisher Con 2023) was once the home of dry goods and clothing magnate Joseph Forepaugh and his wife, Mary. The couple had 5 children together, and appeared to be happy. Appearances, though, can be deceiving. You see, legend tells us that Joseph was having an affair.
CW: Suicide
The alleged object of Joseph’s desire was one of the family’s maids, Molly. One dark day, Mrs. Forepaugh caught Joseph and Molly in the act, as it were. Fearing for his reputation, Joseph ended the affair and moved to Europe “for his mental health.” Molly was left alone and humiliated - and, as she’d soon find out, pregnant. Distraught, she chose to take her leave of the world. She hung herself from one of the house’s chandeliers, and in the process, threw herself out of a 3rd story window.
She never really left.
The mansion would go through several more owners over the years before finally becoming a French restaurant in the 21st century. Restaurant staff and patrons have all reported seeing Molly’s spirit moving about the house. She’s also believed to be the one who bangs on the walls and smashes glasses. I suppose we can’t really blame her for being upset, especially considering the company she now keeps. It seems Joseph has also returned to the mansion.. He’s been seen many times wandering through the dining room. The restaurant - considered the most haunted restaurant in St. Paul (home of Miss Fisher Con 2023) - closed in 2019, but I suspect the haunting continues.

On the 2nd and 3rd day of CinemaCon my studios (WB Discovery/Disney/Universal/Focus Features) gave to me:
Day 2: Warner Bros:
Screening of THE FLASH which received rave reviews (though one critic, whose opinion I normally am I aligned with says it falls apart in the third act). Receiving fewer raves (less raves?) is AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM. Says director James Wan, "It’s an action-adventure story with a really fun bromance between Arthur and Orm. Orm was a villain the first time around, but this time Arthur needs him.”
Tumblr media
- Footage from BLUE BEETLE which gives a better look at its villain Carapax;
Tumblr media
title for the next Conjuring films which is titled CONJURING: LAST RITES, keeping with horror THE NUN 2 had a teaser trailer, in their sizzle reel a title card for BEETLEJUICE 2 was shown; a new FINAL DESTINATION film is in development, trailer for the Oprah Winfrey produced THE COLOR PURPLE movie musical, a first look of Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa in .....FURIOSA; footage from the Timothee Chalamet fronted WONKA which shows Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa; presentation from Chalamet, Zendaya and their DUNE: PART TWO director Denis Villeneuve. Unlike the first installment that was partially filmed in IMAX, this is entirely in the IMAX format. Greta Gerwig and her BARBIE stars teased their film; a trailer was shown for Ben Wheatley's take on THE MEG with MEG 2: THE TRENCH.
Unrelated to CinemaCon, Warner Bros. announced several Batman related projects that are going to Amazon Prime Video: the animated film MERRY LITTLE BATMAN , its spinoff BAT-FAMILY, and notice that there is already a series two renewal for BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER.
MERRY LITTLE BATMAN is essentially HOME ALONE with Damian Wayne.
The art looks awful.

There was a 20-minute look at the animated film ELEMENTAL; footage from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL.3
Tumblr media
