heads- up: someone is taking jc-centric fics and turning them into jc-bashing wangxian fics

I don't usually like to bring twitter drama over to tumblr but since the perpetrator in this case explicitly said they do this ON TUMBLR I felt it was pertinent to do so.

Today user DyuaLan on twitter, aka @jiaoji on tumblr, publically bragged about finding chengxian, xicheng, and zhanzheng fics and changing the names to make them wangxian fics with jiang cheng bashing.

When authors (understandably) reacted to this by blocking them, they boasted about still having 15 stolen fics in their drafts on top of the ones they've already posted.

And that they do all of this stuff on tumblr anyway, not twitter

If you have written any kind of Jiang Cheng ships, or Jiang Cheng-centric fic in general, and are not a fan of your work being stolen, it's in your best interest to block them.

They also said that they block everyone they steal from. Though if you go to the blog now and are blocked, please don't panic, that might just be for fanwar reasons.

Here's proof that DyuaLan is in fact the same person as Jiaoji:

(@jiaoji and @jiaoji2 lead to the same blog, it was probably called this because they at some point lost access/moved from their previous blog @jiao-ji)

And here jiaoji is bragging on their tumblr about feeling too lazy to even rewrite someone else's work

Their ao3 is "Jiao_ji" where they have 16 works total, most of which are in portuguese, making it harder to verify which ones are stolen, as a lot of their "sources" are probably in english. (Most of the fics they have written on tumblr itself are also in english) They also have a wattpad account with the url "Dilf_ji"

As a bonus here they are 2 years ago whining about zhancheng authors blocking them because it means they can no longer steal their fics, this has been going on for a while.

And talking a bit more about stealing from chengxian and zhancheng authors:

While I haven't written any jiang cheng ships, I am a fic writer, and I know the work that goes into it. I can work on a single oneshot for months on end. So this kind of attitude, where if you hate a ship the author's work is just free for the taking, is appaling to me. Inspiration is normal, fandom is inherently transformative. Hell, ao3 has a "works inspired by" function for exactly that. But wholesale lifting someone's else's writing, only changing the ship and adding salt about a character you hate? Yeah, no. "Character bashing" fics aren't my cup of tea in the first place, but if you're going to do it, at least have the decency to write the damn things yourself.

I don't like doing callouts, so while I know that I can't really control anyone else's actions, I want to say for my own peace of mind... please just block this person. I don't wanna cause even more discourse. Remember: you don't feed trolls. I posted this because i think writers deserve to be warned when someone is maliciously stealing and editing their work, not to instigate harassment.

how to spot stolen/uncredited gifs + how to work the search function

there's been a lot of talk about not stealing gifs and not supporting people who do, but it might not be easy to spot shady posts for everyone. so i made this little guide with things i personally look out for. at the end there's also a guide on how to work the search function. i hope this will help out there on the wild tumblrmachine!

the gif has a watermark that doesn't match the poster and there's no "gif by @[username]" under the gif. please note that a lot of people don't watermark their gifs at all, but this is one of the biggest give aways to a gif being stolen and reuploaded.

the gif doesn't stretch across the entire post. very seldom does a gif maker go through the entire process of making a gif and not making it cover the entire post space. in the example below, the gif was most likely a part of a set, as a second gif would fit perfectly right next to the one posted.

"theme posts" with gifs of different sizes and/or quality. in the examples below, "mickey smiling" has gifs of different sizes and no "gif by" credit under either of them. "theme posts" can still be made with proper credit to the gif maker, like "road trip" to the right.

new posters and no "my gifs" tag. if you're unsure if the gif is stolen or not, click the top of the post and go the blog and look at the tags attached to the post. if someone made the gif themselves, there's usually a "my gifs" or a similiar tag under the post. this might be a good thing to do if someone is new to the space has started posting gifs. this is not 100% foolproof method, but it can help you give an idea if the gif is stolen or not.

so how do i work the search function? how do i get the gifs i want?

good question! in the example of "mickey smiling", try searching for just that - "mickey milkovich smile" and you should get some good results. in the case of grabbing a specific gif from a specific post, i'll try to make a guide down below. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

first, find a post you want to use a gif from. we're gonna use this set from @heymacy.

open the post you wanna use and copy the url to it. then make a new post and hit the gif search button. paste the url and it should find you the first gif of the set. click the gif and tumblr brings you back to your post with the gif and the "gif by heymacy" at the bottom.

but say you want the last image in the set. we're gonna use a tiny bit of html but don't fret.

first, do the previous step i just explained above.

click the cog wheel at the top right corner, scroll down and choose "text editor - html". go back to your post and it should be a whole bunch of text instead of an image.

search the text for "img scr" and then delete everything between the two quotation marks following that, it starts with https and ends with gifv.

go back to the post with the gif set and right click the gif you want (in this case the last one of the set), and choose "copy image link" and paste it between the quotation marks where you deleted stuff before. make sure not to delete any quotation marks and that your new link placed between them!

please note: you might get an error message from tumblr that the post contains unsupported html, just ignore that.

then click the cog wheel again, and change the editor back to "rich text". you're new image should be there, with proper credit!

bam, you're done! i'm also including a video below of me doing these steps so you can follow along. sorry my os is in swedish, but the thing i right click on is just "copy image link" as stated above.

here's a more in depth guide to this method, but it can be a little confusing if you're not used to working in html.

as you add more images and text to your post, the amount of text after you change to the html editor will increase. it might be hard to find the exact gif you want to change, but play around with it and try it out. the more you use the method, it'll be easier to work with.

Type of scam: image theft + fake gogetfunding campaign

How/why this account is a scam:

As pointed out by @kyra45 in her post about this account, the images the gogetfunding are using have been taken from a gofundme campaign that was originally posted on March 31st, 2024.

Also, I need to point out something very very obvious which to me points out that this is a scam. (I know I shouldn't call non-paypal accounts a scam but... stay with me, this takes the cake.)

In the original (real) gofundme campaign, it says this:

Hi, I’m Nada and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend Walaa, and her family. This is Walaa’s story: I'm Walaa Jameel from Gaza, a pharmacist and a mother of five children. The youngest, Nour, is now two years and ten months old. I've been living in a tent in Rafah since the start of the genocide war on my city.

And in the gogetfunding campaign (the scam).. it says this:

Hello! Y'all it's Nada from Gaza, my little daughter Nour has hydrocephalus and seizures, we are now in a tent in very bad conditions, and every thing destroyed our house, hospitals and physiotherapy centers.😔

Do... do you see the glaring red flag here?

In the original gofundme campaign Nada (spelt Nada Husien btw) says she is the friend of Walaa, who is the daughter is Nour.

In the gogetfunding campaign Nada (spelt Nada Hussien) says she is the mother of Nour.

Not only that but there is nothing stated in the gofundme campaign that they needed to make a gogetfunding campaign to get additional funds. Something that most people would do if that were the case.

They also claim to be:

Vetted by: @gazavetters @nabulsi @el-shab-hussein @sayruq

But none of these accounts have shared this gogetfunding campaign that I could find via a reblog of the suspected scammer's pinned post.

Also that tumblr account joined on December 23rd, so it isn't that old, and they reblogged nonsensical stuff and then shared their post.

In addition (as I'm typing this post) helpful scam anon just dropped this bombshell of evidence (thank you scam anon!):

in August of last year another documented tumblr scammer, al-rasher, also pretended to be Palestinian and linked to this same exact gogetfunding account that nadahusien is now using, which you can see in this archived reblog of their fundraising post: https://archive.is/Ed8Av you can see how this gogetfunding account appeared on August 25th here: https://archive.is/LeG4u Notice the title, “Donate to Help Rasher’s family evacuate from Gaza, Organized by Margaret” and that the account was created by Margaret Opiyo, and the campaign story describes a mother named al-Rasher and her family. Here you can see how this same exact fundraiser appears today, edited to fit nadahusien's use: https://archive.is/mNX0V The title has been changed to “Donate to Help my little daughter Nour to facilitate the treatment,” and instead of Margaret Opiyo it has been organized by Nada Hussein, and the campaign story has been completely changed to describe Nour. i haven’t yet mentioned the url of this gogetfunding account. it reads “escape-gaza-mallycahs-family-needs-your-support” here is yet another documented tumblr scammer, mallycahblog, calling themself Mallycah and pretending to be Palestinian and linking to this same exact gogetfunding account that al-rasher and nadahusien use: https://archive.is/dj1pG

Shame on this scammer trying to use an innocent child for their gain.

Again, as a note: I cannot vet or verify accounts running gofundmes/gogetfundings as being legitimate, as I'm not an organization or someone who can- in good faith- do that. I just can't, so please don't ask me about doing that.

But it's people like helpful scam anon here that help gather evidence like this so we scam busters can call these people out and let others know about it if there's enough evidence for it to be considered an actual scam.

Mental Health

I am officially diagnosed with autism, and I might have OCD. My parents think I have ADHD. But in short I am neurodivergent, so would really appreciate a safe environment for me, if you can provide it!

I also have hallucinations, panic attacks, I self harm, etc. I have a vent blog so I won't mention it here, and I always use trigger warnings. This shouldn't be an issue but if you really dont want to see that stuff, don't follow me probably.

Soft!Darry Curtis Headcanons

A/N: This was originally written on my main account a few years ago but I decided to move it here since I don't change this URL as often and it makes easier to find my writing! Also It's been a while since I wrote these so I'd like to think that I've improved somewhat since then!

Getting Darry to open up and soften up takes a lot of time and patience. He's a busy guy juggling work, his brothers, and the group so a relationship is another thing he has to find energy for. So patience is key when it comes to the relationship.

Darry had a crush on you for a while but pushed his feelings aside because he didn't think he had the time. However, once Soda and Ponyboy found out about his crush?? Oh boy they all but harassed and threatened Darry to talk to you. He had planned on asking you out when you swung by to hang out with the group at the drive in which automatically made you suspicious because....Darry doesn't do movies. Cut to the two of you being volunteered by Soda to go get the popcorn and drinks only to have clueless Dally cut in.

Well he didn't end up asking you out until you all got back home and you were pulling the chocolate cake out of the fridge. Mr. Superman was blushy and nervous but managed to ask you out before the boys ruined the moment .

Darry tries to schedule dates but with all his responsibilities you two kinda end up just hanging out. Which actually is nicer than any fancy dates he could've planned. Watching movies on the couch with his head in your lap and playing with his fingers. Baking chocolate cake late at night for the boys to have in the morning. Sitting on the porch tucked under his arm, back pressed against his chest while you two talk about life.

SPEAKING OF HIS ARMS AND CHEST. Darry Curtis is pure cuddle material and he loves cuddling. Strictly in his room or on the couch once the boys are asleep or if they're out. He loves feeling you against him, loves when you fall asleep on top of his chest while he's reading or watching TV. Probably one of the fastest ways to get him to relax is to fall asleep against him.

This happened once and the gang came home to find both you and Darry asleep on the couch. Steve teased him about it and it was one of the few times that Darry didn't wack him upside the head. He just leaned back in his chair and looked at you sipping your coffee next to him.

Darry isn't really a man of many words and really just likes to listen to you talk. You could talk about dirt and he'd hang onto every word you said. When you two start dating and he gets to know about your interests he'll actively try to learn more about them. 

 Darry isn't really into big romantic gestures, he's a lot more subtle and it's sweet. He remembers almost anything you say and uses that to his advantage. Once you mentioned that you liked food from this one diner a couple hours away and for your birthday he drove out there and brought it back to the house. He leaves you notes where he knows you'll see them, always makes sure to have your favorite kind of coffee at the house. Things like that.

Watching you do anything domestic instantly melts his heart. And if you do things to help him out without him asking? He melts into a pile of goo. He's so busy and always has a thousand things to do so you going out of your way to help him is really special. Helping Ponyboy with his homework? You're an angel. You did the dishes and the kitchen is clean when he gets home? You're too good for him. 

 Darry struggles a lot with balancing working and taking care of himself. He needs someone to remind him to slow down. You remind him to take moments for himself. Moments to hang out with his brothers outside of scolding them or group activities. And once you begin helping out with work + home stuff it makes it easier for him to do that. He's so thankful. Thanks to you he has part of his youth back.

Ponyboy says in the book that he front door is always unlocked in case one of the gang needs a place to crash and I feel like Darry prefers to be home in case they ever need him. Especially after what happens with Johnny. So most nights you end up staying with him if you can. You have your own drawer and Darry makes sure to save you room in the bathroom for your things. 

 He starts sleeping better when you're next to him not that you could really tell because Darry is asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow. He mentioned that his dreams are better now or that he doesn't even remember dreaming now. 

 Darry tends to sleep on his back and not move but somehow his hand always finds your body in the night. Whether he ends up with his hand on yours or back, arm wrapped around your waist.He wakes up early most mornings out of habit of making sure that Ponyboy is up for school. Even during the summer it happens and it used to annoy him but now he's thankful for the quiet moments with you.He's especially cuddly in fhe mornings and affectionate.

Darry isn't one for PDA but mornings? Will kiss you for as long as you allow, is happy to let you doze in his arms or against his chest, please play with his fingers. 

 HIS HANDS! He's got the strongest and roughest hands in the world. And you love to hold them. And he loves when you hold them. Does the cheesy thing where he holds your hand against his to see the size difference.

Strong boy gives the best hugs (only second to Soda and no I don't take criticism) and honestly a hug from Darry is the cure to a bad day. One time when you you had a nightmare and couldn't fall back asleep he sat up against the headboard, pulled you up with him and just hugged you. His chest is a wall of warmth and his arms are so secure that nothing could pry you away. And in the quiet moments is when he usually finds things to say. He just spoke about work, about the house was working on, and soon you fell back asleep

Darry dreams of having a bigger house some day. Nothing huge, maybe just two more rooms than the home the Curtis boys have now. He wants to send Ponyboy to college, help Soda get his own place, and maybe adopt a dog or two (though he's not opposed to a cat, but he wants a really fat one). And you. He wants you. That's it. He'd be happy with that.

okay, so i know i've been talking about potentially moving blogs for a little while now, and i just wanted to give you guys an update by answering some questions i'm sure you have

Why are you changing blogs?

When I first started this blog, I wrote what I wanted to when I wanted to with no pressure. However, as I started getting more and more requests I began to feel pressured and overwhelmed. I would like to create a new safe space for myself where I can write what I want and not be burdened by the guilt of knowing there are requests sitting in my inbox.

2. If that's the case, then why not ignore the requests?

I know that's the logical response, but it's difficult for me to do that. It's burnt me out so badly and at this point I need to start over.

3. What does this mean for lees-chaotic-brain?

I will still be active on this blog! Even if it takes me a decade, I do intend to eventually work my way through all of the requests in my inbox, even if that means posting once every few months while i write what i want to write on my new blog. Not that I don't want to write the requests. I just need some time to write fics that I'm extremely motivated to write, and get over this slump.

4. What's your new url?

I will share it when the time feels right, but I'm also not trying to hide it! There's a chance you'll stumble upon it once I start posting stuff, and you'll most likely be able to tell it's me. However I will be following mutuals on it, and anyone (mutual or not) who wants my new url can feel free to dm/send an ask requesting it and I'll share it!

Lastly, this blog has been a huge part of my life for the last few years, so while this is by no means goodbye or the end, this feels bittersweet. thank you so much to each and every single person who followed, liked, reblogged, or even took the time of day to read my work. you guys are amazing. mentioned it in the notes of that post but some reasons ppl would choose not to use a read-more:

preservation. changing your url or deleting your blog will make everything under the readmore disappear forever. ideally one would have everything backed up otherwise, but realistically not everyone does

the above also applies if your blog is deleted by tumblr, in which case one wouldn't have any heads up to back everything up and would be reliant on finding rbs of your stuff floating around

(how many of you have everything backed up? and would lose nothing at all if your blog was suddenly deleted?)

and long posts are not exclusive to fic - rp, informational posts, etc can all be very long

when it comes to rp, you OR your partner changing their url can end up hiding half your backlog. especially in long-term rp, this can be pretty disastrous

people can use the tag #long post for a polite opportunity to filter rather than using a readmore

people can also use the shorten long posts function if scrolling through long posts bothers them

and I assume this is mostly an issue when looking through tags, because obviously if you're following someone who doesn't use readmores, that's a choice you're making. you could also always filter their username if you need to be in the right headspace to scroll past a long post

NONE of which means you have to like it, btw! I'm just defensive of ppl blogging however they want lmao

and still bummed that my being polite and using readmores religiously while not knowing all the details of tumblr's mechanics meant that I permanently lost a lot of fic I actually wanted to keep during the time that I was regularly having to reboot my pc and didn't have an ao3

PSA: Back up your blog, check your tumblr e-mail for copyright strikes

Hi everyone, after suddenly losing my account with main blog + sideblogs last week, I would like to share the following warning with y'all. Not to scare you even though it is shitty, but to raise awareness. If this somehow results in me getting kicked off the platform again, so be it lol.

If you post anything fandom* related on your tumblr blog**, whether that's gifs, screenshots, videos, cosplay pics or even fics (?), you may risk getting a copyright strike (up to 3 in 18 months) or even immediate account termination. The chance is still rather small, but just know that it can happen.

*I say fandom in the broad term, so blogs that post about movies and series, anime/manga, games, celebrities, models, sports/olympics, etc. and it goes for gif and fic creators too. Not just accounts that post music or videos for example.

**I say tumblr blog, but this goes for all of the internet ofc. People have been getting this problem on any platform, from insta to etsy, youtube and twitter.

Disclaimer: I am no legal expert, just an unlucky blogger who lost her silly multifandom fic blog after 7+ years.

This will be a bit long and detailed so I proceed under the cut!

What can you do?

...To make sure you don't suddenly lose days, months, and years of content:

CHECK THE EMAIL LINKED TO YOUR TUMBLR. I know a lot of people don't do it, myself included. Tumblr does send warnings (though not always). It wouldn't have changed anything for me because I wouldn't want to appeal - since I don't want to go into this "fair use" discussion for just a fic & editing blog. I personally don't know the chances of retrieving your blog if you protest against the claims, so can't say much about that.

Back up your Tumblr blog if you can. Also save your Tumblr chats with people dear to you if you can. Account termination seems to work differently than deactivation. I was still able to see chats with people who deactivated long ago. But my blog that got terminated has vanished from everyone's DMs and ask boxes à la Thanos snap. I mourn my years of Tumblr chat with my best friend. It was not as if we even considered exporting/copying it just for the memories of the start of our friendship. But now that it's entirely gone, hehe, well. It is sad.

Save URLs and masterposts outside Tumblr. After losing your account, for I thiiink about 24-48hrs (I didn't clock, but it was temporary) you will be able to access it at least temporarily through cachedpages, if you have the URL. It doesn't seem to work for everything, but most of my Tumblr posts I could still see shortly through this site, even after I got wiped off the platform. I did this by googling my tumblr username + certain keywords, and the posts would pop up and give me the URL.

...To prevent getting copyright strikes and losing your account?

Probably nothing - but like I said, I'm not the expert, just the fool who lost her account. The termination e-mail will give you a numbered URL so it's not easy to see which post resulted in the account loss, but for me the keywords were:

Despite the 7+ years of posts, many followers and a lot of memories, I did not gain anything else from this blog and didn't think it was worth the (legal-) risks and effort to try and get it back. It would require filing an objection against the copyright claims with personal info from home address to name, and consenting to USA legal law stuff.

Even if I don't know the exact details, I'm sure they're not wrong, because whether it's fair or not, most fandom stuff has copyright issues in the end, so I can't protest against the claims with 100% certainty it won't get me in real trouble. Besides, I read about similar cases, lost cases, and admitted defeat right away.

They work with manual reports and most dangerously, bots, who seem to be randomly picking unlucky people to take down their posts and possibly the entire account.

So besides putting an entire halt to fic writing, gif making, video editing and other fandom indulgement, or the inconvenient act of censoring every single word and image, I don't think there is a way to entirely prevent getting targeted.

The one that treated me to the strikes leading to account termination was a certain Mr. Green who seems to have targeted mostly people on Etsy. But apparently now also on Tumblr. More about this I can share here for further information. I also share some other links that can inform you about how far the copyright problem can go. Again, no reason to panic. It's rare and I was unlucky. But it happens.

About Mr. Green, using bots all over the internet to take down fandom related material:

Tumblr post about his attack on fandom.

Long detailed doc from an Etsy user.

Insta post about also loss of Etsy account.

Also Etsy related, but same Mr. Green and his bots taking down something only because it used the NAME of an anime character.

Tweet about him and his company not being officially contracted but getting compensated.

About copyright claims on Tumblr - they are still rare, no panic, I just call it russian roulette and these are all unlucky people like me :')

If you are a WoD fan and you aren’t aware of how fucking wild White Wolf’s strategy for marketing Demon: the Fallen was, that changes right fucking now, get ready.

So, the year is 2002, American Culture is still moving past the Satanic Panic, and your job is to market a Table Top Role Playing Game where you play as literal demons who were aligned with the Biblical figure of Lucifer. The book has a big ass pentagram on its cover, and is filled with information on fictional demons and their demonic powers.

How do you market this?

Well, isn’t it obvious?

You satirise Chick Tracks by making a fake one about how the game you’re supposed to be promoting is satanic. I’ve linked it below, it’s only 23 pages long;

But you may be thinking: “Ok, that’s a funny concept, but why is this such a big deal to you?” Well, buckle the fuck up kiddo’s, because I want you to look at that last panel again:

Do you notice anything about it that could prompt further inquiry? What about that URL?

You see, the chick track was only one part of this little marketing stunt.

And so, I ask again, how do you market Demon: the Fallen?

You create an entire fake Evangelical church website called the Eternal Grace Evangelical Church, and write a fake sermon in which you claim that the brand that hired you is producing games that turn children into drug addicts and sexual predators, also claiming that Vampire: the Masquerade was involved in real world murders including the fucking Columbine School Shooting.

Below is a link to the site from the Internet Archives Wayback machine, the main bulk of the interesting stuff is in the sermons section.

Quick note, they used EVERY part of the evangelical bullshit playbook to make this site look legit, they went hard on this. So, the site is satire, but it still feels like it would be a good idea to mention that they satirise everything about Evangelicals, including their homophobic, transphobic, anti-catholic, and anti-pagan beliefs.

White Wolf was frequently quite edgy, and often wasn’t great at dealing with social issues (you could argue this is still true of the modern World of Darkness in some cases). But honestly I think this is a fun stunt. It mocks evangelicals for all their insane bigoted beliefs, and for basically giving all the stuff they call satanic free advertising. No matter what though this is an unhinged marketing stunt, and it is so wild that they actually did this.

downloading youtube subtitles/captions en masse (or videos, with diff options) & searching them

i wanted to take a playlist and download all of the autogenerated captions so i could then search them. here's the solution i've come up with. tried to cover even the basics here and not assuming you have any particular experience with installing/using stuff in command line

all these instructions will be for windows (11), the wiki has instructions for other OSes

install yt-dlp this can be used to download youtube and thousands of other sites' videos with a high level of customization, and fortunately for me also allows the option of downloading the subtitles without the video. i didn't really want to download 600+ videos for my project!

replace with the video or playlist you're interested in. recommend starting with a video first :) if it seems to be bombing out repeatedly, stop with ctrl+c

the flags are needed as follows:

-t sleep - if you don't use this, youtube will stop the download after 300 videos and make you wait an hour, this adds some delays to get around that

--write-auto-sub - this is to grab the autogenerated captions as opposed to the uploaded/created versions

--convert-subs "srt" - to use ffmepg to convert the vtt subs into an srt file

--skip-download - to not download the actual video, we only want the subtitles

--use-postprocessor srt_fix:when=before_dl - this is calling the srt_fix specifically when using the skip-download flag

when it's working correctly, it'll look something like this and the folder will contain two files per video, the original srt and the -fixed srt with the non-duplicated text

the file it creates is named (by default, this can be changed, see the docs) video title [youtube video id] - aka plop that string on the end of this url and it'll pull up the source video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

and lastly, searching! obviously this is where things kind of break down, because common words are more likely to be understood and captioned correctly; but proper names, sketchy audio quality, mumbling, etc is going to miss a lot. just for kicks, i thought i'd see if it ever got mark of cain:

detailed instructions on adding a new entry to the path environment variable below - just be careful with this

open system properties - search for that in the start menu or enter environmental - it'll pull it up

in the system properties window -> click environment variables

double-click the user variable Path

click New and put the path. i made a new folder at my profile folder level (ns) called 'bin' for this:

so the path i entered was %USERPROFILE%\bin
