The first couple years when you met Orla are hazy now. Worn down by time. Memories erased and overwritten by everything that came after. There are glimpses. You, fresh faced. Orla, younger. The tattoo spanning her back, spreading its wings. Flashes of neon lights before your head was bashed into the ground. That long stretch where you didn't even know how to spell your own name let alone how to carve someone up.
chapter one.

meeting a married couple that could be important down the line
shitpost dispatches from guanyin temple & the sangyao dungeons - [10/?]
with the important caveat that no, jgy was absolutely not attempting to kill or harm nhs prior to this moment, but I would bet cash money on him exacting some pretty bloody retribution upon his beloved a-sang if he'd survived the events of guanyin temple (and also I think he would win)
"[Queen] tells the legend of PhoenixClan to [kit], and [kit]'s eyes sparkle when they hear of the leader's sacrifice to save their kin."
new queen activity outcomes for stories in lifegen :] i've been under crazy writers block recently as well as being kinda sick so having a little push is nice
i see that this comic from 2013 about disliking coffee is going around in some pockets. well that was almost exactly a decade ago and i was 14 so y'know, time passes and many of my tastes have matured and changed. to be clear, it didn't for coffee
You may never see this, but I wanted to ask, will Hati's memory loss be relevant with Marcus' (like it'll have an impact on his romance) or is just flavour text?
Just asking cause it seemed as interesting as wanting to kill Marcus (knowing you said that a Hati that wants to kill Marcus will have kind off a different way to develop a romance with him or something like that)
I'm just curious, tho! Since I'd never seen anyone commenting on the ammesia option mostly because the "I want to kill Marcus* is the most popular choice ajdfjjsfj
Hati's memory loss will be relevant later, yes. 👀
As of now, there are two major branches when it comes to romance, the one where Hati is eager to have their revenge and the one where they're more confused and noncommittal about that. Both fun in their own way!
So for those who know me personally, you might know this drink has kind of been my white whale. They are apparently all over the place in the states, being a Walmart and whole foods staple, and my American friends really like them.
They are not readily available here tho. I took a bus all the way out of the city to a Walmart to look for one and couldn't find it. They're not on Walmart's website for my country and Amazon is constantly out of stock of them even if I wanted to import a giant crate of them to my house. I checked all the stores where you normally find foreign sodas and this one just isn't there.
Then I got a text from my friend this week who told me they'd found them in a tiny drink fridge at an imported spice shack in the market downtown and bought a couple of them for us to try when we met up for the eclipse.
Apparently these aren't the same ones my friends get in the USA. The ones that are hyped are the tall boy cans which are non carbonated and, from what I can tell, don't contain stevia. I got the smaller sparkling cans which have different flavours and do contain stevia.
I'll be honest, this won't be a great review, I cracked this can open during the solar eclipse and didn't process how I felt about it because I was mesmerized by the beautiful of the world. The ginger taste was really good, it gave a good kick of energy, the caffeine content must have been high because between that, the cold from the sun disappearing, and my stimulants my extremities became so numb from vasoconstriction I couldn't open the beer Id brought. The downside is really the stevia, I just don't like stevia that much, but there isn't a lot in here so it wasn't like a huge deal.
My friend got the cranberry flavour which I didn't like as much, the ginger is definitely better. There's an original flavour still in my minifridge I might have at work this week. Will update the review accordingly if I have anything to say about it
It was definitely one of the better energy drinks I've had, I will be getting it again if I can find it, but it wasn't like the ratatouille moment I was expecting given how much trouble I've gone thru to get it. Hopefully I'll be able to find the tallboy cans one day and mint melon won't be just a dream anymore.
Solid B. Hope everyone enjoyed the celestial miracle!
I just discovered this IF out of context through your chapter update post and just jumped in blindly cuz I saw fencing and went "!!!! fencing !!!!" (Even tho I ended up going the polo route for the first playthru cuz POLO!!!!!!!! I havent heard/seen polo mentioned in over a decade this was like an oasis for me (side side note; love that u included Midsummer holding his breath to loosen the girth. When I read he was an "antics" horse i figured thats something he'd do lol. Vindication. Its such an often overlooked detail)) and going into this blind was wild BUT HOLY COW THIS IS SO COOL? You weaved together the seemingly dispirate parts of the premise together so well! I love how much of a nerd MC can be! The wikipedia links are such a clever touch! And as a game dev student OH MY GODS THE VARIABLES. THERE'S SO MUCH FLAVOUR TEXT. IM IN AWE OF UR PATIENCE AND ABILITY TO WRANGLE THOSE! The writing is great as well, I love all the details you weave in and I love what sus bastards (affectionate) both Adrian and Merlin are and the breadth and depth of research that has gone into this is insane. The lore and mystery aspects are so engaging I love love love this so far and can't wait to see how the story further unfolds. Best of luck to you!!!
Thanks for the compliments! Yeah, all the various flavor text variations depending upon the MC's personality and their previous decisions is how the game ended up with a 60k route out of 600k text. The behemoth that eats people's brains.
And it's great to see that someone actually picked up on what was going on with Midsummer Knight's Dream (and also Knight Rider) when it came to their saddling. F in the chat for all the MCs who didn't realize and fell off their horse when the saddle slipped.
Interesting so far, i really liked what i read, especially since there is a lack of IFs playing in Ancient Egypt, tho i do have some questions.
1: Are you sure you mean 3500 years ago, because as far as my knowledge goes the official 1st Dynasty was from 3150-2900. Also you mentioned names of pharaohs that came way later. So i guess it is not following our real life timeline of Ancient Egypt? Also if i am wrong do correct me, i am not an expert on this subject.
2: Do you plan on releasing every background with one update for each, or in one big following update, since i guess that after signing the contract, the story will follow one line and the backgrounds will more be used as flavour text, or do i assume wrong?
3: How did you come up with a story playing in ancient egypt, since like i mentioned, there are few that do?
Anyways that's all, stay hydrated
Thank you for your message, I'm glad you like the story so far!
Since the current year is 2024, 3500 years ago means circa 1500 BC :) Historically, that would mean somewhere around the very beginning of the Egyptian New Kingdom. The setting here reflects that time period a bit, but like I mentioned in the description, this story is not historically accurate. The characters and the setting were inspired by real historical figures, but they are all fictional. The story will be completely fictional too.
You are right about the backgrounds! I will probably release a very early first draft of either the vizier's child or the priest backgrounds next. This means, most of the choices will be greyed out, but you'll be able to play through one single path from that specific background until the end of chapter 1. (this will make more sense once you see how the next update looks like lol)
This first chapter is going to be massive because of all the variations, but in the meantime, I'm also working on chapter 2, so at least the first few scenes of chapter 2 might come out in one of the next updates :) (no promises tho)
How did I come up with this? I was always fascinated by this time period, ever since I was a child. I wrote a few books already that are set in Ancient Egypt as a hobby (not public, most of them are shit, so don't ask). This one is the first I wrote in English, and the first I officially made public!
Thanks for the message, and sorry for the long answer lol
OH MY GOD the new chapter im screaming??? i had so much fun playing the game up to this point but it's never been so intense. i really like it!!! (even tho i was so scared i'd mess it up completely, which i might have, depending on how the moral choices come into play) i still cannot decide who to romance im afraid. everyone's so cool and hot. ah the suffering
don’t be too concerned about stats :)) i mainly use them as flavour text; they’re not as important to me as other ifs. main goal for me is for you to have fun and play around, which, judging by your ask i seemed to have delivered so i’m happy.
glad you enjoyed !! and as i always say, why not try all the routes? hehe <3
Glamrock Marionette is coloured! Below the cut are some design notes, small lore info + her prototype predecessor (The Puppeteer)
Pronouns: she/they/it (can be randomly used, staff usually just choose one)
Bare endo legs since she's usually stuck in the prize corner box (only able to leave it when a staff member lets her out)
The pins change around so it's never really the same 3 (she usually trades them with kids, staff or other animatronics)
She speaks in music notes (so technically is nonverbal)
Extendable arms for grabbing high-up prizes
Her torso opens (stores tickets, candies, etc)
The star buttons are actually speakers
Glows in the dark!
There's a bell in the puffball
The candies she carries are Prize-Surprise Candies; hard candies with a juicy center that come in three flavours (Apricot, Grapefruit or Papaya)
Her Fizzy Faz flavour is watermelon! (unsurprising)
Her and Moon seem to get along just fine, but Sun... doesn't really like her (to her dismay)
Before her tho was The Puppeteer, aka the main reason Sun avoids her
To sum up the text for those who can't read it:
The Puppeteer was a MASSIVE (14ft 5) animatronic that just sat in the story corner of Superstar Daycare. She told stories and entertained kids with puppets that plugged into her retractable tentacle-like cords.
She, to put it lightly, was a control freak and prone to jealousy. She'd avoid Moon at night by hiding in the ceilings after closing time and would belittle Sun when kids couldn't hear.
The incident in question was when a parent arrived to pick up two kids, but they weren't on the pick-up list. The Daycare Attendant (following protocol) refused to let them be taken without proof of the pick-up pass. Things quickly got violent with the parent throwing things.
The Puppeteer, not having the same protocol as Sun (given she wasn't permitted to hand off kids) eventually got fed up and straight up YOINKED the kids away from Sun and tried to hand them over to the parent to stop the tantrum they were throwing.
The situation ended with the kids having bruises, Security removing the parent from the Pizza Plex, Sun being heavily damaged and The Puppeteer being decommissioned.
They had me so fucked up with that 'good at cooking' comment on Yuma's file. Had me convinced of things and jumpinh through hoops to make sense of stuff that WASnt even there ToT. I literally thought he and makoto used to live together because of it man
Like oh Yuma used to be good at cooking and some of makotos flavour text mentions that he's a bad cook and always orders out, even tho he has a fully stocked kitchen? That wasn't hinting at makoto being used to Yuma cooking for him, ITS BEVAUSE THEY BOTH FUXKING SUCK AT COOKING CUZ THEY WERE THE SAME PERSON
