Lumina of the Nightwing/Sandwings
Lumina is a female NightWing/SandWing animus. She is elegant, smart, and compassionate.
Lumina is the eldest daughter of her Sandwing mother, Mariposa, and her Nightwing father, Prideful. She also has a younger sister named Inca. Lumina holds a grudge against her father for cheating on her mother when she was young, pursuing a younger dragoness named Hibiscus. When her mother confronted him, he chose Hibiscus over Mariposa.
Enraged, she cursed him to experience inconveniences from time to time, such as misplacing a paper or almost getting crushed under rubble.
It would have been worse if her mother hadn't pleaded to let him be. Her sister Inca, on the other hand, was just confused and frustrated by why he would choose to leave the life he had to "start fresh." Lumina and Inca tried to help their mother get through such a low point in her life, either with presents or just lending her a shoulder to cry on. Her friends consist of Barracuda, Terrane, Tumbleweed, Inca, Raven, and a couple of other locals.
Although she was closest to Tumbleweed due to her kind and enduring nature, and to Terrane for his advice and realness. They would go night-gazing and talk about things like crushes, their families, or making jewelry for each other, like the necklace she is wearing.
She initially felt indifferent towards Barracuda but eventually befriended him despite his aggressive and threatening nature.
After Tumbleweed's death, she and Terrane were the first to come up with a plan to avenge her.
Their health began to deteriorate as they focused solely on the plan, which involved an enchanted dagger capable of cutting through even the toughest of scales. The plan was to use the dagger to stab Barracuda in the heart and end the war.
After the war, she and Terrane became roommates. He's a famous healer, and she sells rare gems. They get along just fine. They also make sure to visit Tumbleweed's grave every full moon with Raven and other dragons she knew, to give her flowers and celebrate her life.
(She also had a crush on Tumbleweed but wasn't sure how to act on it.)

“You know, in Hindi faith, hibiscus is associated with the goddess Kali who embodies nothing less than the force of life itself. I think that’s you, and your lively energy in my life,” Stephen said after a moment.

America loves drawing and painting flowers, and Stephen is a supportive dad who likes seeing his daughter happy.
Inspired by this post
https://www.tumblr.com/changes-fandoms-too-much/717769219089006593?source=share
It started off with doodles in the margins of her notebooks. Stephen and Wong had decided early on after America moved to the sanctum that she should be attending a normal high school to make up for the years of teaching she’s missed. And Stephen was enjoying being a tutor in both magic homework as well as her normal maths and physics homework.
He had just been explaining quadratic equations to America when he noticed the little images at the sides of her notes and homework. Simple doodles of flowers and stars, as well as some of a small familiar basset hound, Bats. They were all done in blue pen and often half-minded. He couldn’t help but notice though, that among the messy pictures there was also a drawing of a flower with large round petals and intricate lines in the middle for the seeds. Almost like a poppy, but he couldn’t tell for certain, his botany knowledge went as far as magical remedies that used flowers required, but nothing outside of that really. Stephen also didn’t know much about art aside of the artworks he bought for his house back when he had money to throw around, but he could still tell that America had real talent if she chose to channel it there.
America could tell that Stephen had zoned out while talking and asked, “what? Maths now even too boring for you to bother explaining? Cause then at least we are in agreement.”
“No, no. I was just thinking about something. Those little doodles are very nice. Do you enjoy drawing or was this just from being bored in classes?”
The girl blushed and ducked her head, “thanks, I don’t know, I liked it when I was young, but then the bee incident happened, and I just never had the time or interest to pick it up again.”
“Well, I think it would be lovely to see some more of your art, we could hang it on the fridge.” America just giggled in response, and they went back to doing her homework together.
Stephen didn’t think about it again, until a week later. He was returning some books to the library in Kamer-Taj that America had borrowed and had asked him to bring back for her as she was going for pizza with her school friends. As Wong was now the Sorcerer Supreme, he no longer worked in the library and the new librarian was even stricter on the ‘no portals in the library’ rule then he had been, and had set up some wards to prevent them. Stephen could get around them but he just didn’t couldn’t be bothered.
Just as he was about to walk up to Mirou, the new librarian, he saw the corner of a sheet of paper sticking out the side of the old book, he opened it to find a beautifully sketched drawing of what he thought to be a Gerbera flower inside, this time done in pencil and shaded to look soft and realistic. He moved to sit down at one of the tables to study the drawing further, it was on a A4 sheet that had evidently been ripped from a school notebook, the printed lines still visible in the back. He removed the drawing from the book and closed it. Sling ring in hand, he opened a portal to his bedroom and placed the drawing on his desk.
Over the next few weeks, he keeps spotting drawings and sketches on loose sheets and starts collecting them in a pile in his study. Soon after he starts to leave blank white printer paper around, the drawings start appearing on them instead. America doesn’t mention the missing drawings, but Stephen is certain she knows he has them.
He wasn’t even the one who bought the coloring pencils and watercolours, they weren’t there one day and then they were the next day. He spots America in their living room sitting on the floor in front of the low table with Bats on the sofa behind her, using them. She was sketching small flowers and attempting different techniques to fill them. He also sees that she is watching a YouTube video on her laptop explaining different types of brushstrokes and how to implement them.
America presents him with a stunning watercolour drawing of a collection of small yellow, pink and purple hibiscus’ with a small smile two days later. “Stephen, I think it’s time for me to actually give you a drawing of mine, instead of you stealing and hiding them like troll.”
“Trolls actually aren’t kleptomaniacs, they usually just take things when their homes are in danger and the stolen things are part of the danger. So,-“
“That’s not what I meant, and you know it,” America said exasperatedly, and Stephen just grinned at her. “Anyways, I want you to have this, yellow hibiscus represents happinesses and sunshine, because you helped me find happiness in a universe that isn’t my own, the pink hibiscus represents love of all kinds but especially familiar and platonic love, and the purple hibiscus shows mystery and knowledge. They remind me of you.”
Had someone asked Stephen ten years ago if he ever wanted kids, let alone a mulitversal traveling, pizza obsessed, and slightly disaster-prone teenage girl, he would have sent them to the psychiatric ward of the hospital. Yet, here he was in the kitchen of their haunted mansion, with a sentient red cloak around his shoulders and a ghostly dog floating into the room, and America starring at him expectedly as she held out one of the best gift he has ever been given, and Stephens eyes start watering.
“Th-thank you, America, they are beautiful,” he was really trying to not cry, with the love and happiness filling him from deep within, “I know the perfect place for it.”
With that he magiced up a small dark wooden photo frame with small carved swirls and curves on it, and placed the painting behind the glass with shaky hands. As he lifted his eyes from the picture frame, he was surprised to see tears in her eyes too, and a quivering lip.
“Hey, hey are you okay, Star?” They were both equally surprised at the nickname, but America looked into Stephens eyes as if looking for something before she threw herself into his arms and hugged him tightly.
“Yes, I am. I really, really am.”
Stephen hugged her back one trembling hand going to her head as the other moved up and down her back.
“You know, in Hindi faith, hibiscus is associated with the goddess Kali who embodies nothing less than the force of life itself. I think that’s you, and your lively energy in my life,” Stephen said after a moment.
The young girl pulls back out of the hug and looks at him, and smirks before saying “you know you info dump fun facts when you are nervous or in an emotionally charged situation.”
Stephen rolled his eyes fondly, carefully picked up the frame and moved out of the room, before he’d start getting ‘emotionally charged’ again.
The frame now sits on his bedside table.
In hindsight, the acrylic paint may have been a mistake on Stephens side. Actually the paint wasn’t the problem, it was the movie that was. She had used the paint to draw on virtually everything. The cardboard boxes from the attic were covered in stars and galaxies and planets, her sketchbooks were filled with paintings and still life’s and kinda off looking portraits, as well as the floor and table, but they didn’t look intentional. So, he forgives her and cleans up the mess with a quick flick of his wrist.
See again, the paint wasn’t the problem, the movie was. They had set up weekly movie nights for her to catch up on movies and tv shows she had missed while traveling across the multiverse. Their current favorites list included ‘Star Wars’, ‘The Greatest Showman’, and Disney’s ‘Tangled’. And ‘Tangled’ was the problem.
A girl who loves to paint and draw watching a movie about a girl who paints her entire room and ceiling in stars and flowers? Yeah, it was bound to happen.
So, it comes as no surprise when he comes home from Kamer-Taj to a home cooked dinner as a begging strategy. Actually the dinner was a surprise, he had expected puppy eyes, from both her and Bats.
Yes, he says yes, when she asks about painting the walls of her bedroom. Stephen helps her pick out some more paints and brushes at the shops, and then assists in moving the furniture from her room.
It’s a large room with big windows on one wall and window seats below them. Random colourful pillows are spread across the seats and the bed. The walls are a soft blue colour matched by the large wooden bed with a blue canopy from which glow in the dark stars are hanging. The thick curtains danced as they moved through the air and out of the room, the soft white carpet rolled itself up and walked out and the furniture shrunk until they could be picked up like doll house pieces. Leaving an empty room for her to paint and decorate as she pleases.
It starts with the wall opposite to where her bed was, she paints a green field with flowers of all kinds, roses, lily’s, yellow coneflowers, pink and white daisies, poppies of every colour as well as flowers which Stephen did not recognize. Upon asking she told him stories of the plants from her home planet, the way some smelt like chocolate, while others would bloom to be blue and purple and pink, how some would be used for special medicines or in her moms food. Stephen loved listing to her talk about her home, and see that despite everything she has been through she still has so much love to share.
The next day, he wakes up to his room with a key being missing, the Cloak, and Bats, but he has started sleeping in Americas bed rather than his. But the Cloak missing was bizarre, so he pulled himself from the bed, and wandered down the hallway in just his pyjama pants and an old T-shirt. It’s the sounds of quiet music that leads him to the ajar door of Americas bedroom. Stephen knocks and upon getting a quick “come in” enters.
What he was expecting when he walked into the room, he didn’t know, but he was surprised to see America sitting on top of the Cloak floating quite high to the ceiling as she is painting fluffy white clouds to above her.
“You know, Michelangelo almost went blind after spending four years painting the ‘Sistine Chapel’, because paint kept dripping in his eyes, so can you please wear some goggles or something,” is all Stephen said once he understood the situation.
“Apparently the info dumping is not exclusive to emotionally charged moments, but also when you are still half-asleep,” America giggled from where she was lounging on the Cloak with a paint brush in one hand and a plastic cup of white paint in the other. “Also, I have no idea how a turtle would have painted a ceiling.”
“A turtle?”
“You know, that movie we watched with the crime fighting turtles, one of them was called Michelangelo.”
“I’m gonna have this conversation after I’ve had coffee,” said Stephen as moved to turn around. “Come get some breakfast in the kitchen with me.”
It was only minutes later when they both sat on the wooden chairs of the kitchen table with a mug of coffee for Stephen and a cup of orange juice for America, as well as some toast with honey, that Stephen saw what America was wearing.
“Is there a reason you’ve gone through my wardrobe and are wearing my old college shirts?”
The girl looked down herself, looking at the grey shirt that was so large on her it reached below her shorts to look almost like a dress, before she looked up and simply said, “it’s not like you wear them anyway.”
That was the end of that conversation, but Stephen did leave a pile of them with her, so she could use them when she moved on to paint the rest of her walls, until they where covered in beautiful fields of flowers on one side which transitioned into a blue sky with clouds that looked like they were moving (maybe they were, Stephen would never say) as the painting continued to the ceiling until it evolved into a dark galaxy filled with stars and planets and pinks and blues and purples over and behind her bed.
After America moved all the furniture back into the room with Stephen help, it looked like a cozy place for America to come and sleep, and read, study, watch movies, and relax. He was so proud of his girl, and after she added the glow in the dark stars to the back wall to match her canopy, he added a light spell that allowed the stars in her paintings to twinkle and slightly sway.
It was after she had also painted her wardrobe and night stands as well as the inside and outside of her bedroom door to match her room, that she ran out of space to paint on.
It’s now been a few weeks and somehow Wong is yet to notice the way the living room walls have small flowers all along the bottom edge in different colours and shapes and sizes. Stephen thinks Wong is just pretending to not see them, as he seen plenty of her other drawings and paintings. Stephen also knows that he has a framed painting of a portal opening to a calming landscape hanging above the desk in his office in Kamer-Taj. America had given it to him as a gift for Luner New Year.
But in Stephens eyes nothing will ever top the colour pencil drawing that hangs in the Sanctums living room, directly above the stone chimney in a place of honour. It depicts a bouquet made out of three flowers held together by a large ribbon.
The left most flower is a light pink star-shaped ‘Astrantia’, which is a soft and elegant flower that represents strength, courage and most of all protection.
The middle flower is a ‘Blue Star’ which is a dainty and delicate little flower that symbolizes endurance, strength and determination.
And the last flower is a purple ‘Aster’, a flower that is named after the Greek word for ‘Star’ and symbolizes love, wisdom, and faith.
The flowers each represent one part of their little star shaped family and Stephen is filled with love and happiness whenever he looks over to see it on the wall.

Rice Paper What is Rice Paper? Do you have trouble finding the paper you need when you search the term
"rice paper" online?
This is because the term has multiple origins for various types of paper, all of which have different uses. Here are four completely different types of paper, each with a different use but all referred to as rice paper.
Paper Made from the Rice Paper Plant: No, there is no such thing as rice paper. A type of paper made from the Tetrapanax Papyrifer plant was imported to Europe from Asia around the turn of the twentieth century. Because of its Asian origins and bright white color, this paper was commonly, but incorrectly, referred to as "rice paper." This paper is commonly used in the creation of artificial flowers, as a shoe sole, and for painting. However, it is rarely used for writing.Edible Paper: Edible, thin, starchy paper is used to wrap Vietnamese finger foods in the food industry. This food wrapping paper is also known as rice paper or nir wrappers. Although rice starch can be used to make this paper, other ingredients such as tapioca starch, milk, and bananas can be added for flavor and texture.Wrapping Rice: There is a paper made from the bark of the Mulberry Tree that is used to wrap rice bundles for transportation in Asia. Even though it is an industrial mulberry paper, you can see how this paper is commonly referred to as rice paper.
Rice Paper for Art, Architecture, and Writing: Papers from Asian countries are frequently labeled as Rice Paper. Paper can come from a variety of countries and is frequently made with a variety of pulp and fiber ingredients. Different varieties of the mulberry tree are the most common source of pulp for rice papers. Because of their widespread distribution in the country of origin, other plants, such as the Lokta bush, are also used.
There are several types of rice paper that you may find useful if you are looking for rice paper for art, lampshades, shoji screens, or other creative applications.
The following are some of the different types of paper that are commonly referred to as rice paper:
Thailand’s Mulberry Paper: The Thais have perfected the mass production of mulberry paper. After meticulously preparing the bark strands, artisans handcraft mulberry paper in a variety of sizes and weights. Unryu Paper is soft and translucent, whereas Heavyweight Mulberry Paper is stiff and textured.Washi Paper: Washi paper is a highly refined mulberry paper from Japan. Japanese artisans have elevated mulberry paper to the status of fine art. One branch of Japanese papermaking focuses on crafting mulberry, mitsumata, and gampi papers to the such high quality that they can be used in book and document conservation efforts. When used to repair books, the conservation papers are defect-free and so thin that they are virtually transparent. Mulberry paper is used in another branch of Japanese papermaking to display intricate, artistic designs. Beautiful and colorful designs can be found on Chiyogami or Yuzen paper. Each color of the design is hand-silkscreened onto the sheet with care. The depth of color is amazing after 8 or 9 applications of silkscreening.Shoji Paper from Japan: Another popular application for rice paper is in architecture. It can be found in Japanese Shoji screens as well as translucent lamp shades. Shoji paper is a thin, semi-translucent mulberry paper that is typically left unbleached or bleached white. It is wetted and placed in screen frames. The paper shrinks as it dries. The paper becomes smooth and tight when held tightly in the screen frame.Hanji Paper from Korea: Hanji Paper is a type of rice paper from Korea. Hanji paper has traditionally been used for legal and important documents that must be kept for a long time. Hanji paper achieves this level of durability by incorporating Hibiscus’s mention into the paper pulp. The monitor adds strength to the fibers, preventing them from breaking down over time. The pulp mixture is also acid-free, making Hanji Paper an excellent archival paper.Nepalese Lokta Paper: The Lokta bush is more common in Nepal than the Mulberry tree. In Thailand, Japan, and Korea, the bark of the Lokta bush is used to make paper pulp in the same way that mulberry is. Nepalese artisans have become well-known for not only producing paper but also transforming it into useful paper products and decorations such as bags and rosettes. Lokta paper, like its cousins, is frequently mislabeled as "rice paper.
China’s Xuan Paper: Finally, rice paper made in China is known as Xuan Paper. It was made originally from the bark of the Pteroceltis Tatarinowii tree (a relative of the Elm tree). Other pulps, such as mulberry, bamboo, and rice, have found their way into the Chinese papermaking industry over time.

I've gotten asked by friends what I do offline, since I intentionally limit my screen time. It's easy for me to say I devote a lot of time to creative and meditative activities, but that's probably too vague. So I compiled a very short list of the top activities I like doing daily or every weekend. Many of these I was either trained in or dabbled in out of boredom. Remember, I existed waaay before the internet, so I needed to do something with my time. Heh...
God I've lived too long.
Writing: I write nearly every day for various reasons. Either basic journaling, keeping track of budgets, keeping a commonplace book, writing poetry, listing favorite books and what I think of them, travel journaling, lectio divina, testing out art supplies, cataloging my gem and mineral finds, and mood tracking. Because of this I have so many little notebooks and journals everywhere. Sure I could use a phone or word processor, but it's such a deeply rooted habit for me, plus I really enjoy the tactile feel of paper and pen.
Making tea and bath supplies: I use a lot of herbs for my basic health needs, a skill picked up from my grandmother. I like making rosewater and herb steams for my face, distilling oils from roses, brewing hibiscus into a concentrate for flavoring sparkling water, anddrying lavender for sachets. Herbal healing salves made from herbs and beeswax are a staple in my emergency kit when outdoors. I can make my own soaps as well, tailored to my skin's needs.
Making and mixing ink: Because I do write a lot, naturally I'm drawn to pretty inks. For mundane tings, a simple gel pen will do, but for special thing I go for my glass pens, but there's a satisfaction of making custom colors and even adding scents to them. I have a book filled with ink formulas to recreate my favorite blends.
Drying flowers: During the warmer season I love bunching up sweet smelling flowers, like honeysuckle, lavender, and greenthread, to hang in my room. The added bonus is that the flowers once dried, make a great tea. I also love pressing flowers to use on cards, in scrapbooking, or put between glass to make suncatcaters.
Making incense: Naturally since I work with herbs, I also love making incense. I like using hard sap I've collected from pine trees, but also sweet grass, juniper, star anise, cedar, ect. I powder them, add a binder, and either press them into a cone or pellet. Apart from burning them, I like to put them in small cloth bags to scent a drawer or in a box with stationery or even fabric pieces.
Grinding pigments and binders: There's a certain therapeutic process in grinding paint pigment to turn into paint or pastels, along with any binders like gum arabic and limestone. I tend to do this during the winter, when I'm snowed in. In the summer I'll have lots of material to use in dyes, inks, paints, soft or oil pastels, and even colored beeswax for encaustic art and crayons.
Sewing practical items: If a bedsheet is worn or stained, I'll repurpose it into handkerchiefs, napkins, and small bags for jewelry or other tiny things. Old jeans get turned into kitchen cleaning cloths. Its a treat to use fabric that I've put in a box with incense, I can make pincushions and coasters while smelling pine or rose petals. Related to this is tatting, a type of lace-making.
Leather work: Related to the above, I like working with leather to make practical long lasting outdoor gear, such as bags for my binoculars, a roll up kit for my chisels, as well as a secure case for my gem loupes. I've also made a journal cover out of leather, it uses an elastic in the center so I can switch out booklets when they're filled up or need to be moved around.
Jewelry: Basically beaded chokers and bracelets, macrame, and kumihimo. I like making them while listening to music or having a movie on in the background.
Mosaic: Mostly a summer activity, I have a lot of shells, glass, gems, and broken ceramic to create mosaics.
Other stuff I've experimented in: Origami, woodburning, glass etching, bonseki, soap making, cross stitch, embroidery, basket weaving, sun printing, henna, quilling, mushroom growing, terrariums, cultivating dinoflagellates (blue tide), growing crystals, gourd art, ceramics, clay and rock sculpture, calligraphy, stamp carving. Pretty sure there's stuff I've forgotten.

Week 4 + Reading Reflection
This week focused on the completion of assignment two and the introduction of assignment three. For assignment two, I created three collages using various grids and shades of gray created by variations of size and closeness of text. I created and experimented with some sketches prior to making collages. Then, following the feedback of professor Nace, I finalized my sketches (pictured below):
Using a ruler, I measured out the dimensions of my grids on my 8" by 8" pieces of paper I cut out in class. I then labeled each enclosed space with a "B," "G," or "W" in accordance to the shade of grey in my sketch. Finding various shades of gray for my collages was much simpler than expected. I measured out each piece and would glue it in the correct space. Here, I have glued my lightest and darkest shade of grey.
Though I did make some scans and printouts of white on black text, I decided that I wanted to capture the text in its authentic form to see the shades of gray as they truly would be seen as opposed to having direct visual signifiers that tell you what shade of gray you are meant to see.
After the doing final touch ups, craftsmanship adjustments, and mounting, I submitted my work on Tuesday morning.
For project three, Flowering Typography, I created 16 2”x2” sketches, which I uploaded to Basecamp for feedback from class on Thursday.
For the sketches, I did a lot of experimentation with a variety of flowers. Following feedback from professor Nace, my third, sixth, and eighth sketches were the strongest in concept, and I will likely pursue the eighth sketch depicting the Hibiscus.
Pages 61-80:
Looking at a variety of examples of lettering was a great form of inspiration for my third project. Some work that particularly stood out to me was that of Nolan Strals- Though his letters did not contain art within themselves (like the previously listed example of Deanne Cheuk in the reading) Strals made the letters art themselves by changing the shape of them while maintaining their form. This is an effective technique that brings flow and rhythm that guides your eye throughout the screenprints, and will likely be a lettering technique I will experiment with as I find my visual identity as an emerging graphic designer. Prior to this reading, I had never heard of logotype, and never saw anything relating to graphic design in branding beyond typical symbolic logos. I find logotype to be fascinating in the sense that it could be both the end result of a brand’s visual identity or the basis of it. This chapter was intriguing because it brought me to the realization that something as set and austere as letters could be changed into a form of art and visual expression.

Song’s links: Long Break - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGh_Iyw6fgI | Último Romance - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27TT85GA9VM
Telluride, Colorado.
2 years after they come back.
“Thank you, Mrs. Bradley! Have a good night!” You gently said getting the heavy paper bags with all the fresh ingredients for your wedding anniversary.
“For you too, Darling! Enjoy your husband!” The old lady smirks.
“You can count on that!”
Your life was perfect now. After Stark’s death and all the story with Thanos, most part of the heroes and allies decide to get there retire, and you are one of this people.
You cross the country moving from the Avengers compound to a small town in Colorado, laying down your weapons and abilities and getting your brushes and canvas. At somehow, you were still trying to save people, but now using art.
And you have him. The man who give you more than you expect: love, safety, partnership and calm. Blake was amazing. You two rebuild yourselves together when everything happened.
Blake used to be an Interpol agent and his wife and daughter died in a car crash when the Snap happened, there uber's driver faded away and the car fell off a cliff.
You two found each other in the help group Steve used to organized. You moved in together, you grow together, you cried together and fight together against your own demons. Blake supported your decision to risk your life on the time travel and fight the battle even knowing that the first man you ever loved would come back. Blake would love you regardless of the choice you would have made.
And you choose Blake, he was your future.
You drive through the shy suburb of the small town, and thank for being there.
At the end of the street, was your house. A yellow wood little house in the middle of a large grassy rectangle, surrounded by hibiscus and white roses.
Soon you get in, you start putting your plans in action. Pasta, broccoli, tomatoes, lettuce, Blake's favorite – weird – cheese, 3 bottles of wine. Cut, cook, wash, decorate, another glass of wine… shit, I can’t get high yet.
The music that was playing on the living room suddenly stopped and a strange familiar metal sound came to your ears.
After years surrounded by wars, crazy insane Titans, Hydra and Shield, your mind was pretty fucked up. So, yes, a nosy sound was something to worry about.
You walked slowly following what was bordering your thoughts, but you didn’t have to do too much. Just few steps, and you see him in the corner of the room. I’ll always be in the shadows, babe. The memory of his voice hits your mind like a shoot.
“You scare me…” You took one last sip of your wine.
“Your place is beautiful.” His eyes were haunted and his voice come out like a whisper.
You nodded smiling.
“How are you?” He tried to approach but stopped himself.
“Good. You know, retirement does me good.” You cross your arms, protecting yourself from your old feelings. “And you, how have you been? Still living in Wakanda?”
He faced the floor taking a deep breath.
“I… I left Wakanda right after you…” He hesitated and you knew why. “I'm working with Sam now.”
You try to keep smiling, but your eyes meet with his, and you could read them like an open book: He was broken.
James has a fucked up brain, he has his issues and Hydra problems, but the way he looked like now was something deeper. Years before, you saw this same look but was in your own eyes, every damn day, when you woke up and see yourself on the mirror.
He was alone, he missed you.
“James, say it.” You broke the silence and he frowned. “You invade my house at the exact moment my husband isn’t. The only thing that motivated you to came here is because you probably have something to say. So, please… Just say it!”
“I miss you!” He didn’t even search for the right words. “And I want you back. I need you back!”
“Don't!” You turn your back to him walking back to the kitchen. “Don't tell me you come here today to say this after all these two years, James.”
For the first time he come closer to you.
“What did you expect?” He asked confuse. “Y/N, do you really think I'm doing this for fun? You know this isn't easy for me, talk about these things, and I know you can read me easily than anyone.” He said fast.
“James, I know you're in pain. But, if is hard for you, believe me, it’s two times harder for me.” You point your finger to him. "For you was like fall asleep for a couple of hours, but for us, for me, was and still being an eternity.” Tears already falling in the corner of your eyes.
“So, what was the purpose, Y/N? Bring me back, so you could feel good to yourself and return to your happy fake life?” His voice sounded disappointed and his metal arm fisted against the sink. “эгоистичный!”
Your heart broke in little pieces and the control was gone.
"Don't you dare call me selfish!" Your voice was cracking and the regret filled his eyes. "Did you really think that I left you because I don't love you anymore?"
He took a long breath, and you try to hide your tears.
“You still love me?” He gets closer to you without losing the fragile eye contact.
“Is this matter now?” Your eyes break the contact running the kitchen and your hands falling down in redemption. “Don’t hurt yourself, моя любовь.” You asked.
He placed his hands on each side of your face and bring to his chest. The cold of the leather jacket in contact with your skin sent a shiver down your spine.
Even knowing this was – at somehow – wrong, you let yourself relax on his embracing. James was warm, his muscles created a protective barrier around you and his fingers caressed your body looking for all the parts where your skin were naked for him. Your arms crossed around his neck and on tiptoes you barred your face on his shoulder.
“You cut your hair…” Your cracking voice whisper to him trying to break the tension, while you run your hand through his hair strands.
“Like you always suggest.” He smirked bringing you to face him. Yours foreheads touched and his eyes found your soul. “Come back, Y/N! I do anything to have you back, моя любовь…” His lips brushed against yours. “Whatever you want, just tell me, and we will do it, okay?”
For a couple of seconds, you imagined your life with James. Maybe both of you living in a big farm, waking up together, getting back the time you two lost. Kisses, shy touches, his overprotection full time, your crazy manias and his strange neuroses. Was perfect. Was much better than the time you guys lived in Wakanda.
But was too late.
You were sure you didn’t take the break up decision alone. You have asked him what life he wanted for himself and he choose to continue Steve's legacy, but you wasn’t available to live that kind of life anymore. Follow different ways was the best decision.
He tried to kiss you hardly, but you get back.
“I can’t, James…” You grabbed his black shit. “We can’t…” He closed his eyes and kissed your forehead. He felt the goodbye was happening again.
The car's engine rumbled on the garage bringing you back to reality. Blake was arriving home.
“Y/N, we can…” James tried, but you knew what you have to do.
“Go.” You direct to the backyard door. “Now!”
“Where is my beautiful, lovely, super hot wife?” Blake screamed at the front door.
James leaves the house without looking to you, without any noise.
You clean the tears of your face, put on the best happy face and waited for your husband get in the kitchen.
“There she is!” His sexy voice said.
You turn around and there was Blake: dressed with his Professor social attire, flowers in one hand.
Blake you’re perfect.
“Hello, Mister sexy voice!” You kissed him slowly and intense.
But you’re not James…
He gets his hands free and finally hold you spinning around ourselves.
“You okay, honey?” He took a look on your eyes. “Looks like you cried, or something like that… Is everything good?”
Blake is perfect.
“Yes, honey!” You smile shooking your head and squeezing your eyes. “It’s just the wine!”
But he is not James…
The living player come back with the song. Último Romance / Last Romance, Los Hermanos. Your honeymoon song.
“Right on time!” Blake automatically pressed his body against yours and start following the music melody, singing slowly.
“I love you, Y/N. Happy wedding anniversary!” He kissed your neck.
“I love you too, honey. Thanks for everything…” You rest your head on his shoulder.
You two stayed on that moment, seams like forever. When your eyes find the kitchen’s window you locked on James's eyes, staring your perfect moment.
“E ninguém dirá que é tarde demais / And no one will say it’s too late
Que é tão diferente assim / That’s so different
Do nosso amor a gente é que sabe / About our love, is us who knows”
*******************************************************************************************
A/N: What you guys think about some continues of this one shot? Maybe like, Y/N and Bucky's time living in Wakanda, or Y/N’s wedding day, Y/N and Bucky’s break up... I really enjoy write this story ahahahah :)

Extracted from "The world through my hands", a prose series.
I began to draw some time in grade 8. Like every other Viet kid of my generation, I started off with copying manga panels, then painting film stills, then picking and piecing together different elements from those studies to make my own art. It helped a lot with my habit of picking and biting fingers: during hours out of school when my hands were not doing math or writing essays, drawing would tire them out instead.
Tết 2018, my grandma was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer. Mom scheduled as many business trips in Hanoi as she could. She would finish her work a day or two before it was due so she could fly out earlier, catch a three-hour bus from Hanoi to Haiphong and spend that extra couple of days taking care of Grandma. For months I barely saw Mom, but the fridge and cupboards were never empty. I told her to spend more time with Grandma and that I would be fine going to the exam venue by myself. Regardless, she flew in the morning of my first exam, bought me rice rolls for breakfast, took me to a Buddhist temple in the neighborhood so that I could get my blessings then dropped me off at the venue and waited until I was done to take me home. From the backseat of Mom’s scooter, I looked over her hunched shoulders to see her sun spotted hands. My mom is the best caretaker I have ever known.
Mom stayed home until I finished all of my exams, then asked if I wanted to visit Grandma for maybe two weeks. So I started drawing her portrait. I referenced her photo that Mom took when we went to the beach in Phan Rang, then placed some hibiscus flowers in the background around her. Grandma once said she loved watching the hibiscus flowers in our garden bloom whenever she visited us in Saigon during summertime. On smooth recycled paper, I retraced my grandma’s features with red graphite while the hibiscus petals were harmoniously coated with shades of blue, purple and yellow. My hands were quite tired, they cracked and bled as I tightly gripped the coloured pencils. Mom said that my little hands do great things.
Grandma didn’t recognize me or Mom at first. She seemed small and fragile, and I could tell she was in a lot of pain. It took her two minutes to utter my Mom’s name, and around five for mine. She smiled when I showed her my drawing:
“I still look like this?”
“Yep, even prettier.”
“Obviously.”
We both chuckled. She fell asleep holding my hands just before tears running down my cheeks began to soak the edge of her bed.
I lost my grandma right after graduating from high school. I saw Mom cry for two minutes or so, then she picked up her phone again and started making arrangements for the funeral. Mom said I could keep my drawing, maybe frame and hang it on my bedroom wall, and so I did. When I moved to a basement suite in East Vancouver, I asked my roommate to print a copy of Grandma’s portrait and put it on my exhibition wall in our kitchen.
Once in a while, I condemn myself for not having spent more time or done more things with my grandma. Once in a while, I find it ironic how the portrait of her and the hibiscus flowers captures neither her beauty nor her kindness; in fact, it captures nothing but my fossilized memory of those lovely summers when she was still here with us under the scoring afternoon sun of Saigon. I let my grandma slip away so easily while I bled my hands dry trying to soothe the fear of losing another loved one.

Another Magical Monday!
Good morning, my witches and warlocks! 'Tis I, Zinnia, bringing you another Magical Monday blog post! Today, we are going to be looking at one of the eight sabbats - Ostara!
Ostara, also known as Eostre, is the Spring Equinox which occurs every year around March 21st. It is the turning point from winter to spring, where life begins to reawaken. Night and day are of equal length and in perfect equilibrium - dark and light, masculine and feminine, inner and outer, in balance. The natural world is coming alive, the Sun is gaining in strength and the days are becoming longer and warmer.
Ostara takes its name after the Germanic goddess, Eostre/Ostara, who was traditionally honoured in the month of April with festivals to celebrate fertility, renewal, and rebirth. Some Pagans/Witches still choose to celebrate this Sabbat even today in honor of what it symbolizes in nature, following the yearly cycle.
Symbols of Ostara
As you might have guessed, the symbols for this sabbat are the hare and the egg. In Celtic tradition, the hare is sacred to the Goddess and is the totem animal of lunar goddesses such as Hecate, Freyja, and Holda. The goddess most closely associated with the Hare is Eostre, or Ostara. The nocturnal hare, so closely associated with the moon which dies every morning and is resurrected every evening, also represents the rebirth of nature in Spring. Both the moon and the hare were believed to die daily in order to be reborn - thus the Hare is a symbol of immortality. It is also a major symbol for fertility and abundance.
The egg contains 'all potential', full of promise and new life. It symbolizes the rebirth of nature, the fertility of the Earth and all creation. In many traditions, the egg is a symbol for the whole universe. The 'cosmic' egg contains a balance of male nad female, light and dark, in the egg yolk adn egg white. The golden orb of the yolk represents the Sun God enfolded by the White Goddess, perfect balance.
Ostara Correspondences
Symbolism: rebirth, new life, new beginnings, resurrection, fertility, balance, youth.
Symbols: rabbits, bunnies, eggs, chicks, daffodils, tulips, baskets, sprouts, lambs, ribbons, butterflies, bees.
Colors: pastel green, yellow, pink, gold, grass green, robin's egg blue, red.
Food/Drinks: hard-boiled eggs, deviled eggs, honey cakes, dairy, leafy green vegetables, flower dishes, sprouts, fish, hot cross buns, sweet bread, milk, chocolate, jelly beans/eggs, lemonade, fresh fruit.
Herbs: acorn, celandine, crocus, daffodil, dogwood, easter lily, ginger, hyssop, linden, honeysuckle, iris, jasmine, narcissus, peony, rose, violets, woodruff, forsythia, spring flowers.
Deities: Eostre, Ostara, Aphrodite, Athena, Cybele, Gaia, Isis, Persephone, Venus, Maiden, Pan, Cernunnos, Green Man, Adonis, Mars, Osiris, Thoth.
Crystals/Gemstones: amethyst, aquamarine, rose quartz, moonstone, bloodstone, red jasper.
Animals: rabbits, hares, chicks, robins, lambs, snakes, unicorns, dragons.
Magic: Ostara is the sabbat of new beginnings and life. Fertility magic and garden/seed blessings are commonly performed during this time. Use this Sabbat to perform magic to break away barriers, start new projects or inventions, and breathe new life into your home/garden. This is also a great time to celebrate balance. You can also use colored eggs to attract different things such as love, fertility, wealth, and prosperity.
10 Fun Ostara Activities
1. Dye eggs! It is always a fun activity - try dyeing them with natural food colorings. Using beets will color your eggs pink/red. Onion peel will color your eggs orange. Turmeric will color your egg yellow. Hibiscus will color your egg dark green. Purple cabbage will color your egg sea blue.
2. Make Ostara baskets!
3. Hide eggs and do an egg hunt!
4. Go outside and look at all the baby animals and blossoms. See life in nature being reborn and springing to life!
5. Grow grass in pots. Start preparing your garden by planting seeds inside and watch them grow!
6. Decorate your house for spring! Hang up flower wreaths, place decorative eggs around, hang up pastel colored ribbons, etc.!
7. Read up on the history and lore surrounding Ostara.
8. Talk about new beginnings. What would you like to start new?
9. Make some Ostara art! Draw a spring field, bunnies, etc.
10. Honor the birds. Leave some seed out for them, go birdwatching on a hike, etc.
Wrapping Up
There are so many wonderful ways you can celebrate Ostara. Even if you don't have much to offer, you can still take part by simply lighting a pink candle on your altar or write down on a piece of paper what spring means for you.
I hope you all have fun this upcoming Ostara. Until tomorrow!
May the Sun guide your way at day and the Moon guard you as you sleep. Blessed be!

Intruders- Jessie Reyez (A Review)
Introduction
So from the first time I heard this song and watched the video I knew I had to write something on this. I have always loved Jessie Reyez, I even wrote one of my thesis papers about her song “Gatekeeper”. If I can find it I will definitely post it here. The topics that I will tackle with this one are quite heavy but it must be done. We will be looking at colonialism, the manipulation of history and the personification of nature.
The Artist
My girl Jessie Reyez has been making music people have been afraid to make and I will say something I don’t say often; she is so underrated. I wish more people knew about her and the messages she convey in her lyrics. Her voice is also so unique and she sings with so much passion and conviction. I have watched so many live performances of hers and I haven’t been disappointed so far. If you have never heard of Jessie Reyez I do encourage you to give her music a listen. Also she has a new album out called “Before Love Came to Kill us”, stream that ish everywhere.
Song

So in most of Jessie’s lyrics she does this very interesting thing which again I wish more people talked about. The lyrics of her songs usually create a meta narrative. This just means that there is a main story which possesses a message or a world view within another story. For instance using “Intruders” as an example it reads like a love letter and sounds like a love song. I was casually browsing the comments on some lyrics sites for this song and a lot of people just saw the song as her saying that the man is hers and these “intruders” or other females don’t belong within their relationship. Absolutely nothing is wrong with seeing the lyrics as that alone but if you dig deeper paying special attention to certain words, you would see that this song is a lot more than what meets the eyes or ears. That is where the concept of the meta narrative comes into play. The story we read or hear on one level is a love story and the main story is about land being taken. People who would have done a little history even secondary school history know there is a term for such actions:colonialism. For a little recap National Geographic explains it to be when “one nation subjugates another, conquering its population and exploiting it, often while forcing its own language and cultural values upon its people”. If you watched the music video you would see more physical representations of colonialism which I will get into but for now we are looking at the words and what they say.
From the first set of lines in the song there is reference to the original natives of whatever colonized land she is writing about, “I found ya, cleared land / Put down my flag /This is mine from now on”. As someone from the Caribbean I immediately thought of the Amerindians of the greater Antilles. These Amerindians or Indigenous people are known to be the original settlers of the Caribbean and possibly that of America. There were some studies done to try and track where these people came from and the results varied. Some researchers claimed they came from the Amazon while others said the DNA found from bones matched that of people from Asia. Wherever they traveled from they are the known first civilization of people to inhabit these lands. Just those opening lines say a lot as it relates to theme and it is amazing how much just a few lines can say.
There are other pieces of evidence of this song alluding to a telling of the colonization of native lands and people. In the second verse she sings “ I wrote you a love song /A war song/ I'll sing it when the ships come, yeah / I'll die for my state” which paints the picture of the natives standing together as the ships of the foreigners arrive willing to die for their land. And that is exactly what happened. Some assimilated while the ones who rose up were killed like animals. It was an act of genocide and historical records tend to see it another way. These records refer to the Amerindian settlements as pre-history which is incorrect as pre-history implies that the colonization of the land is the main or more important part of history when all of it is our history. This is what I meant by the manipulation of history. Just like there is evidence ie artifacts and relics as proof of the Europeans “discovering” the land, there is also evidence of the first settlers. It was a fully structured civilization which involved the tools they used, the type of agriculture grown and even their burial rituals and customs. So therefore we cannot and should not see it as pre-history. For instance, growing up in the Caribbean, history was taught according to a British curriculum. It was only when I got older and more educated that I realised how biased it was. it was framed to make the Europeans look like our saviours. No sir!
Video
So the music video is a visual representation of this message or meta narrative that the song has. The video starts with a kind of Pocahontas like colours of the wind vibe with the main character worshiping the land. The land itself is personified as a man. Personification is giving more of less inanimate objects human-like features. The main character is using every part of the land to live and at the same time not harming it.
It is a relationship that functions in harmony.....
......until the fire nation attacked....I mean colonizers.
I feel like the Toronto-based studio, Solis Animation really studied the lyrics of the song and were able to create a video that works with the true meaning. Actually with both meanings of the the meta narrative. It functions as painting a picture of a love story but also one that shows an aspect of history that some people gloss over, that is, colonialism. I mean you can’t get clearer about what this video is really about. Even taking a look at what the colonizers were wearing. The uniforms were very similar to that of either the English or Spanish military like the colour scheme and the shape of the hats.
I also think it is important to note that all the people who came off the ships were female. This ties back to the part of the song that infers that it is about a love story. It is to mean that the intruders in the video while describing European colonizers, are also symbolizing the other women that would want to enter the relationship.
As the good parts of the land were personified we also saw what happens when land is pillaged and destroyed, mainly how it bleeds. This heavily reminded me of the poem by Eric Roach called “Carib and Arawak” from his book The Flowering Rock. The poem really speaks about the land remembering the history of the genocide of the indigenous people of the Caribbean in particular the Caribs and Arawaks of Trinidad and Tobago. The poem highlights the concept of the flowers (hibiscus) grown on the land after colonial times being a reminder of the blood and death that occurred on the land. The hibiscus because of their original and true colour being red, it symbolizes how the land is bleeding out of revenge of the past. I absolutely love this poem and if you have an interest in reading it, message me as I know it is almost impossible to find online.
In these couple of frames we also see that she is willing to fight for her lands. This time marking herself with the blood of her home on her way to defend it. This shows the fighting spirit of the natives in order to protect their home. Based on historical accounts and records it states that some natives were peaceful and ready to cooperate until they were betrayed and they felt the need to reclaim their home.
I believe we have come to the end of analyzing this piece of art. As someone from the Caribbean I really appreciated the way this video was put together. It emphasizes a part of our history which is sometimes buried and lost. It took a little longer to pull together not only because of the the research but also things going on in real life. I hope you learned something from reading this and if you feel like you can educate me some more on the topic feel free!

Everyday things you can do to build your witchy supplies and cheap ways to do it
Burning to get your witchy supplies started but have no idea where to start? My suggestion- start anywhere and with everyday things!
Herbs
To get a herb collection started, you do not have to have homegrown herbs or herbs from metaphysical stores which can be pricey. You can start a simple herb collection with just herbs available from your grocery store. If you are not a green thumb or you live in an apartment with no space for a garden, this is a really good option for getting a collection started. Just because something came from the grocery store doesn’t make it any less magical, and many people are under the impression that due to the mundane nature of how the herbs were obtained they are therefore less effective. This is not true at all! If you like doing the whole drying process yourself, you can go to the fresh food sections and pick up bunches of basil, parsley, mint, peppermint, rosemary, sage, dill, lemongrass, coriander, tarragon, oregano etc very cheap and usually already in a perfect bundle ready to be dried! You just need to take them home and hang them up somewhere dry for a few days to a week or so before they will be all dried and ready to use. If you are lazy and can’t be bothered or don’t have time to do the drying process, you can go to the spice section and find many of these same herbs already chopped up and dried out. If the packaging on the product makes you feel a bit “meh”, just take them home and place them in a jar or other similar container where they can remain dry, and the look of the container makes you feel inspired.
Gathering herbs and flowers is another really great option. Of course, if you are not experienced in recognizing wild herbs and flowers, I recommend you practice gathering a bit differently. Try gathering with the help of your community. Some of your neighbours might be green thumbs and be willing to share some of their plants with you. I used to live near someone who hedged their garden with basil, and every time their basil hedges grew out of control they would trim them. They were happy to give me the trimmings of their basil plants. They also gave me the rosehips that they had on their rose bushes, and if they had roses or lavender growing I would always ask for some trimmings if they were willing to share. People are actually more generous with their gardens than you think! A lot of avid gardeners are always willing to share cuttings as well, so if you know how to grow from a cutting this is a really good way to also build a herb collection. Any dandelions I see around my home I like to gather for drying, and any other flowers I can easily recognize such as hibiscus, daisies, frangipani, marigolds, chrysanthemum, cherry blossom, magnolia etc I will always try to gather a bit here and there. Another really cool option is to go to community gardens and gather the plants there that you can use, where they are labelled and everyone is free to take what they need!
Save your orange or citrus peels for drying as well, as you can use these to emit the smell of their essential oils when placed over a heat source!
Herbal teas are another really great option to safely consume herbs. Of course, check with your medical practitioner as some herbs contained in teas may cause issues with medications etc, (You can never be too safe when it comes to things you choose to eat/drink) however, herbal teas are a really great way to enjoy the benefits of the herbs in a safer manner than say, walking onto the street, picking up what you think is a certain type of herb and then making a tea out of it.
Jars
Jars are simple to obtain, and you do not have to start buying a million jars from your local dollar store just to have that witchy aesthetic that everyone seems to want. Recycle the jars from your food to store herbs or to use in spells. Pasta sauces, mayonnaise, anchovies, preserved foods, peanut butter, etc etc, anything that comes in a jar. Not only is this a great way to reduce waste, but glass is a safer option for storing things as you will not have the nasty toxins from plastic leaching into your herbs, oils, moon water, floral waters etc, and they look so much more attractive than plastic. And having all sorts of types of jars in different sizes and shapes makes for a very rustic witchy aesthetic look anyway.
Collect natural objects
Homeware stores have started selling bits of driftwood, false flowers, shells, pinecones, pebbles etc for ridiculous prices so that rich people can look fashionable and “rustic”. There is no point in buying these things when you can go to the beach and pick up a piece of driftwood or some shells for free. Objects picked up in their natural environment also seem to retain their energies more so than those objects that have been commercialised. Scour your local nature strips or parks for pretty looking dried leaves, pine cones, nice shaped rocks and anything else that inspires your witchiness. Make sure that you respect the spirits of these areas. Do not take more than what you need, and ensure that you ask permission from the spirits before taking. It is always good to leave an offering in its place- usually something organic such as fruit, seeds or nuts which can feed the local ants or birds.
Collect ribbons and coloured paper
Every time it’s Christmas or you are given a gift, save the ribbons or wrapping. String has so many uses in witchcraft, and different colours have different meanings that can be used in all sorts of rituals. You can reuse them as well if you don’t end up burning them. Coloured paper can also take on meanings if you will it so.
Tell people you want candles for Christmas
Tell everyone who asks what you want for Christmas or your birthday that you really want to decorate your space and you love candles and you are dying to get some. Then watch as all your friends and family give you tons of different types of candles. Trust me, you can never go wrong with this. Candles are often so cheap that people will buy heaps of them for you in different colours and fragrances. The other good thing about this is that if people know you are a witch and they want to buy you a witchy type present they will often have no idea what to get you and will default to a candle.
Buy candles from the lighting/electrical/barbeque section of a grocery store.
Buying candles from a speciality metaphysical store, a homewares store, or even a dollar store can be expensive. But many grocery stores sell candles to be used in emergency blackouts or power outages, and some have started selling these types of candles in different colours as well. They often come in bulk packs and work just as well for half the price. You can also buy birthday candles and use those for your spells, especially if you need to do a quick spell.
If you are after some really beautiful white candles, buy candles listed as “church candles”. These are sold cheaper than other white candles, probably because churches get all sorts of discounts. But they often are moulded in a really classical shape so they can look sometimes more beautiful than just your plain ol’ white candle.
You do not have to burn your entire candle down for a spell to be effective.
If you don’t write your own spells you will often see spell instructions telling you to allow the candle to completely finish burning. This is a waste of time and a waste of the precious candles that you conned every one of your family members into buying you last Christmas. It is also ridiculous- some candles burn for 18 hours or more, and it is totally unsafe to leave candles unattended. Do you have 18 hours to monitor a candle? Nope.
You can cheaply make your own specialised spell candles, you do not have to waste 20 dollars on one from a metaphysical store.
Yes, that’s right, with a microwave and a cheap candle you can carefully melt the wax down, add a wick in one of those jars you saved and then add all the herbs and fragrant oils, flowers, or whatever you want to the melted wax before allowing it to dry. There is a lot of tutorials for this on the internet, but please make sure you go for candles that do not have a foil or aluminium wick holder on the bottom as these will catch fire in your microwave. Candlesticks with nothing but wax and a wick at the top are best for this. Please take precautions with hot wax. Otherwise, there is no reason why you need that fancy candle for triple the price.
You do not need a fancy obsidian scrying bowl, a kitchen bowl with water works fine!
That’s right! Those metaphysical stores who try and make you buy an expensive obsidian plate for scrying seem to have forgotten that water scrying is an art that has existed for centuries!
Any reflective surface can be used for scrying, it doesn’t have to be a fancy looking crystal object.
Learn to read playing cards for divination
You do not need to spend on tarot if you cannot afford it. Pick up some playing cards and use the power of the internet to learn how to read them for divination! If you are a closet witch as well, no one will suspect a deck of playing cards either.
Print pictures of deities at a photo store.
Never before has it been cheaper to print pictures now that digital has taken over. My local department store has a photo printing station where you can buy photo prints for 5 cents. I take a USB of pictures I like of my deities that I found online and print them off as photos. Then I frame them in dollar store frames. BAM! You have an altar set up for a few dollars.
Buy festive decorations after the season has passed
If it’s yule time and you are dying to decorate your house with holly, red and green, pine etc, wait until the next year to decorate (I know, it sucks, but if you’re frugal you can dig this). Go to a dollar store and buy up big after the Christmas period has ended in preparation for the next year. Holidays such as Christmas, Easter and Halloween have become so commercialised that there is a serious overproduction of decorations each year and after the season has passed the stores just want to get rid of stuff as fast as possible. This is when you can jump in and get some witchy looking objects for a really cheap price. What’s great is that a lot of dollar stores sell some very witchy looking decorations during these typically Christian festivals- Bunnies, eggs, chickens, skeletons, pine branches, holly, cauldrons, etc without realising.
Splurge on expensive incense when you can.
20 dollar packet on incense? Get it. My advice here is- quality really shows when it comes to incense. I am a massive incense fan, but whenever I can afford it (which is not always, sometimes I too have to go for the two dollar packets) and I find a really nice packet of pricey incense I go for it. Why? The cheaper the incense, the faster the burn time and the less resin it contains. One of the reasons that incense gets that burnt smell is because it contains sawdust to help it burn. Cheaper incenses smell less fragrant and burn faster because most of the resins coating the sticks are substituted with more sawdust. That way, the manufacturer keeps the costs of production down. More expensive incense sticks often have a ton more resin in their coating, smell more potent, and burn slower with a more beautiful smoke colour. They are well worth their price, and when you experience it you will want to always try and get the pricier sticks. The more expensive sticks also tend to have more of the real resins in them. Sandalwood, for example, is actually an endangered species and has become very expensive to buy. So manufacturers who create cheap incenses often substitute with sandalwood smelling substances but never really use the real thing. If you can afford it, go for incense sticks manufactured with real Australian sandalwood. Australian sandalwood smells extremely similar to Indian sandalwood and is specifically farmed for incense production. Thus you are getting the real thing but you are not contributing to the endangerment of Indian sandalwood which is a culturally sacred species that needs to be protected.
That being said, my point here is quality and a long lasting product will save money over time when it comes to incense.
Anyway, that’s all for my witchy money saving tips for now! I hope this helped you!
