I finished Ayn's Eden Route.

There's still so many questions as to why Alkaid is doing what he does. Why is he kind to us (and Lars) and not to the others? And the previous routes always leads to his death at the end. One thing I noticed is that, whenever the climax of the route happens, Alkaid starts to be referred to as "Master of Eden" and not "Alkaid"; this, of course, might just be what the writers intended to be and might be nothing, but if we compare it to Godheim, no one was called "Emperor Lars" or "Archmage Clarence" or "Executioner Ayn" or "Archmage Alkaid", everyone's name tag is their name.

There's also multiple descriptions of the MC about Alkaid's contradictory emotions. Was there two Alkaids? A split personality? Ayn said that the Master of Eden cares more about the flowers than humans, but there are two cases where Alkaid had shown positive reactions to: Lars and MC. (Granted, it looks like both of us weren't from Eden's world in the first place. Is there a connection to that?)

Does Alkaid sees outsiders differently from the humans of Eden? Does he considers the Lost as his friends because they aren't humans anymore so they aren't selfish? Did something happened in the past to make Alkaid resent the humans of his world?

There is always an oasis beyond the desert so why sacrifice worlds to keep his Eden alive?

I'm about to start Alkaid's story.

The real question is though, where is Eden!William??? OTL

alkaid: of sincerity, soulmates, and selfless sacrifice

In honour of this special day, I’ve prepared a present – a short meta post answering the question posed in the LBC discord server, “What made you fall for Alkaid?”

This screenshot pretty much sums it up (mild Godheim spoilers):

Alkaid loves deeply, and this manifests in his unwavering devotion and earnest sincerity. He is a steadfast protector who loves and feels and hurts with every fibre of his being, yet he conceals this intensity with a genial demeanour.

What are Alkaid’s core motivations and character traits? What lies beneath the facade of this heartrendingly complex character? For all that Alkaid is an enigma, he also inadvertently wears his heart on his sleeve, if you know where to look.

[ SPOILERS: broad references to Alkaid’s stories from Godheim, White Day, and Book of Tales. ]

Upon MC’s first encounter with Alkaid in the modern world, my first impression of him was a decently good one, but not particularly impressive or memorable. He’s the generic nice guy, the affable upperclassman who welcomes you to school and helps you settle in comfortably.

Later, we come to realise that this is exactly what he wants others to think. Alkaid intentionally projects the image of an unassuming gentleman, concealing his true emotions underneath an amiable disposition and a pleasant smile. Wearing this persona as his shield, he strives to be likeable, while also fading into the background, unobtrusive and unremarkable. The less attention drawn to himself, the better; there will be fewer chances to slip up, fewer risks of making a mistake. As long as he keeps up appearances, he can play the role of the perfect prince.

Alkaid does not do this to be deliberately duplicitous; in fact, it is much the contrary. His innate kindness and self-effacing consideration for others spur him to accommodate as much as he can, often to the point of self-sacrifice. He hides his true self, in order to please others. He relinquishes what he has, in order to give others what they want. Alkaid puts himself secondary to what others ask of him, not because he thinks of himself as worthless, but because he believes he is worth less.

In the Book of Tales event, Alkaid’s story draws from Oscar Wilde’s The Nightingale and the Rose. It is a tale of a nightingale who sacrifices her blood and her life, in order to create a red rose for the human she loves. In the same way, Alkaid readily pierces himself with thorns so that he can give MC the red rose she needs. Despite the excruciating pain, he does not flinch in the slightest, but he immediately reacts in a panic when MC is hurt by the thorny vines. Alkaid cares for others more than he does himself, yet he does not realise that by valuing himself less and taking all the hurt upon himself, he is inadvertently hurting those who care for him.

In Godheim, Alkaid’s love is also shown through selfless sacrifice. He willingly forsakes himself without a second thought, simply because he loves someone that deeply and thinks that little of himself in comparison. He would rather inflict wounds on himself than risk taking advantage of the person he loves, and he always strives to be kind no matter the cruelty dealt to him. His desire stems from love, and his power coalesces from his wish to protect those who matter to him.

In an effort to keep MC safe, Alkaid pushes himself to the brink, exhausting all his magic and life energy to the point that he nearly dies. One particular route branch has him shouldering the blame on MC's behalf, taking her punishment upon himself so that she doesn't have to. At the end of it all, he even writes a biography to honour Clarence's sacrifice, despite everything the Archmage has done to him. Alkaid is so empathetic that he can see past his sister's death and recognise that MC is an unwilling player in this whole situation, that she doesn't deserve anyone's ire.

Alkaid's heart runs so deep and so kind, yet he never recognises his own goodness, instead fearing the potential for evil within him. Throughout his Godheim route, he refrains from ending anyone's life, even that of his enemies, yet he is willing to commit evil with his own hands if it means he can protect his beloved MC. It is this irony, this multifacetedness to Alkaid that makes him such an intriguing character – even as it makes him fear himself for what he is capable of.

In modern-day Alkaid, this contradiction is reflected in his self-perception. Borrowing the metaphor of the Rose Elf and the Gentleman Agent, Alkaid believes he cannot possibly be the former because he is nowhere near as honest or upright. Instead, he identifies with the latter, because he hides so much of himself in the shadows.

What Alkaid fails to realise, however, is that these characters are not one-dimensional tropes, and neither is he. The Gentleman Agent is shrouded in veils and deceit, but he is also a protector. The Rose Elf is fragile and delicate, but he is also so ardent in his love and commitment. Alkaid is all of these things, because they can coexist without being contradictory. I won’t go into detail about Awakening, since it’s still a relatively new release and the story is best experienced for yourself, but his route there also ties in with this theme.

Alkaid’s worst fears stem from the dual nature he perceives in himself, the capacity for evil that he believes lurks dormant in his heart. He views good and evil as a binary, believing that they exist as a dichotomy within him, and this is exemplified by the black and white imagery he's often depicted with. Referring to his negative emotions and thoughts as his “other side,” Alkaid separates his good, ideal self from the side he believes he must suppress. 

Ironically, this demarcation between the parts of him that are acceptable and the parts that are not inevitably exacerbates Alkaid’s fears. The more people like his outward persona, the more he worries that they will scorn his true nature. He believes that other people like him for what he seems to be, but that they will not like him for who he actually is. He is deceitful, dangerous, disappointing, do they not see that? Do they not realise that the true him is not worthy of such praise or adoration?

The answer is no, because Alkaid is far harsher on himself than he deserves. He is human, and he is allowed to be multifaceted, to have different sides to him, to feel emotions that are positive and negative and the full gamut that runs in between. He is not a dichotomous binary, but a complex being that exists beyond good and evil.

This is where MC comes in. She sees Alkaid for who he is – all the sides he does not show others, and all the selves in disparate worlds across space and time. Beyond the idea of soulmates, her connection with him is that of 知己 (zhī jǐ) – to know someone as you know yourself – in how deeply and thoroughly she understands him. She perceives him, down to the depths of his soul, and she says: I love you, still. Not despite his flaws, or regardless of his shortcomings. Rather, it is an acceptance, encompassing every fibre of his being. I love you for everything you are.

There’s a line from Tian Guan Ci Fu (天官赐福; Heaven Official’s Blessings) that resonates with this idea: 对我来说，风光无限的是你，跌落尘埃的也是你。重点是'你'，而不是'怎样'的你。”To me, the one basking in infinite glory is you, and the one fallen from grace is also you. What matters is ‘you,’ not the state of you.” Alkaid strives to only show his best sides to others, but MC embraces all his worst sides just as readily. He is terrified that she will leave when she realises he’s not like the person she initially thought she loved, but she stays because she sees all of him and cherishes him through it all. She loves him, because he loves so deeply, and he deserves to be loved in return.

So, happy birthday, Alkaid – you are worthy of the love you receive.

Alkaid: Friendly. They are good friends; they hang out after class often and chat about physics theories and all. Alkaid inspires Edwin to be more outgoing.

Clarence: somewhat hostile. Edwin doesn't like how Clarence appears to be strict and bossy, and Clarence doesn't like Edwin’s lazy ass either. But, they get along as time goes by.

Ayn: Friendly. Edwin does not talk to Ayn much, neither does Ayn, but they are still on friendly terms.

Lars: Unknown. Edwin knows Lars to be a manga fan as MC describes.

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲

All he remembers is meeting MC when she was 15. Edwin remembers himself to be 17 by that time. He can't remember anything else about his childhood.

𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲

Edwin, also known as Adjutant Vega, worked under Prefect Silver until he lost his life in a battle whilst harvesting a world. To preserve his memories, Prefect Silver was suggested to convince the Chosen One to make a bionic of his Adjutant. Thus, several bionics resembling Edwin were made. The bionic VEGA-1228 had his memory erased and then sent to Earth to accompany MC as she grows up; some of his cognitions were also modified so that he can appear to be more humane; such as aplearing more sensitive to others' miseries, and more sympathetic to people. Recently, he has made several choices of his own will against his master, which is unlikely for a bionic like him.

He is a loner who doesn't have many friends. Alkaid is his closest friend (or so he thinks). And Ayn, William, O'Connor are acquaintances who are on his good terms. He is also one of the top students in his major as he is able to memorise things easily and able to do a large amount of sum in his mind.

(Students call him a “robot” as a joke.. get it?)

Has shown signs of psychic dreams. He often goes to Cael to tell him about his weird dreams, but Cael says it's merely a dream, and that there are no other hints behind it.

Can fight well despite not being so athletic.

I’m now halfway through The Magnus Archives’ 1st season, so I thought it would be cool to just post my thoughts on each episode so far :). (Spoilers, I like all of them, and this podcast is going to be all I care about for a while.) Also NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!!

- Episode 1, Anglerfish 🚬

Statement of Nathan Watts, regarding an encounter on Old Fishmarket Close, Edinburgh.

Really strong start, not the scariest episode so far but definitely unnerving, and it gives a good first impression and layer of intrigue. While the story is simple in comparison to the later ones, it was still enjoyable, and I was just appreciating the atmosphere and framing device of the episode as well.

- Episode 2, Do Not Open ⚰️

Statement of Joshua Gillespie, regarding his time in the possession of an apparently empty wooden casket.

This is still one of my favorites. The whole time I was on edge, and this was the first episode that really kept me up at night. I went from wanting to know what was inside the coffin desperately, to wanting to stay away from it as much as possible. Joshua’s insuring dread and creative solution to his problems was fantastic, and it ends with some intriguing plot threads being set up.

- Episode 3, Across The Street 📓

Statement of Amy Patel, regarding the alleged disappearance of her acquaintance Graham Folger.

I think I share a common sentiment when I say that Amy stalking Graham was almost as creepy as the actual horror lmao. Overall I don’t have that much to say about this one, but it was very enjoyable, and I feel really bad for Graham in retrospect :(.

- Episode 4, Pageturner 📕

Statement of Dominic Swain, regarding a book briefly in his possession in the winter of 2012.

I…feel like I should hold off on talking about this one for now. While it was definitely well written and creepy, it just seems to be so full of setup for future plot lines that I almost don’t feel like I can form a concise opinion on it until I really get what’s going on. Honestly, my only complaint with this episode is that maybe it’s setting up TOO much in one go, but I still had a good time with it overall.

- Episode 5, Thrown Away 🗑️

Statement of Kieran Woodward, regarding items recovered from the refuse of 93 Lancaster Road, Walthamstowe.

This one actually did a pretty good job at getting me to think about waste disposal workers lmao, I never really thought about them like that before. This one was just really creepy, but also kind of fun in a weird twisted way. It did a great job keeping me on edge as well.

- Episode 6, Squirm 🪱

Statement of Timothy Hodge, regarding his sexual encounter with Harriet Lee and her subsequent death.

I am simultaneously horrified, and unfortunately aroused by what happened here.

- Episode 7, The Piper 🔫

Statement of Staff Sgt. Clarence Berry, regarding his time serving with Wilfred Owen in the Great War.

Having an episode set nearly 100 years ago is a really fun idea, and it’s executed perfectly here. It was interesting how it also featured a real person, and I liked how the paranormal activity felt more metaphorical here, it really did feel like it was showcasing the horror of war.

- Episode 8, Burned Out 🌳

Statement of Ivo Lensik, regarding his experiences during the construction of a house on Hill Top Road, Oxford.

I found this one to be very nerve-wracking, since not only was the whole scenario with the tree just, like…three creepy things happening at once, but the fact that the statement was given by someone with schizophrenia did a good job making me question it’s validity, even though I’m certain it’s true after listening to a later statement. I also hope that I get to see how the history of the house is unveiled in the future.

- Episode 9, A Father’s Love 💡

Statement of Julia Montauk, regarding the actions and motivations of her father, the serial killer Robert Montauk.

This one made me feel really sad :(. I really felt Julia’s despair in this one (Jonathan Sims does such great voice acting for every statement btw, both the character and the actual person), and I was even more saddened by the implications of why Robert did what he did. If my assumptions are correct, then…SCREW THE MOTHER! It was also the first one that got me thinking about where exactly all of the paranormal stuff comes from, and later episodes only add to my theory that it’s all due to demons/cults/higher powers.

- Episode 10, Vampire Killer 🧛‍♂️

Statement of Trevor Herbert, regarding his life as a self-proclaimed vampire hunter.

Much like Episode 8, this one did a really good job at making me question the validity of the statement, although I became more sure of its truth a bit earlier. I also just love how nonchalant Trevor comes off as, compared to all of the other traumatized horror victims. (Also, I’m guessing that the name Trevor and the episode title are meant to be a Castlevania reference?) While vampires aren’t the most creative thing for an episode, at least in comparison to everything else, the beast-like execution here more than made up for it in my opinion.

- Episode 11, Dreamer 💭

Statement of Antonio Blake, regarding his recent dreams about Gertrude Robinson, previous Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute.

Yeah…Gertrude Robinson did not die a normal death. My guess is that she was caught by ✨the horrors✨, but I’ll wait and see. This was another very tense episode, with the prophetic dream world being really, REALLY creepy. I do hope we get to see more of “Antonio” in the future, as I think he could be quite important. (I also hope he gets punched for DUMPING GRAHAM IN HIS TIME OF NEED-)

- Episode 12, First Aid 🏥

Statement of Lesere Saraki, regarding a recent night-shift at St. Thomas Hospital, London.

OMG GERARD KEAY HI HI HI HI HOW ARE YOU!!! Yeah I audibly gasped when he showed up again, it was such a cool moment. Anyways, hospitals already creep me the fuck out so this was pretty effective. Definitely some great setup here, and it helped to make a bit more sense of Pageturner, now that I have a better idea of what Gerard’s whole deal is. It also added some good fuel to the whole cult idea, and my god this poor nurse. Having to deal with all of this in a single night sounds like hell.

- Episode 13, Alone 🌫️

Statement of Naomi Herne, regarding the events following the funeral of her fiancé, Evan Lukas. Statement taken direct from subject.

Having a new voice in this episode was really cool, and Katie Davison did an excellent job as Naomi! It was also cool to see how Jon interacts with other people, he was…nicer than expected. This episode honestly felt like it was calling me out, as I am also someone who’s confident in my independence, but if I was in Naomi’s place I would also probably be scared shitless. I really hope she’ll get a happy ending :(. Also, The Lukas family is quite intriguing, especially since we now know they have a connection to The Institute…

- Episode 14, Piecemeal 👆

Statement of Lee Rentoul, regarding the murder of his associate Paul Noriega.

Firstly, this is probably my favorite of Jon’s vocal deliveries. His performance of Lee Rentoul just feels perfect. (Once again, this applies to both the writer and the character, I’m genuinely convinced the latter is an ex-theatre kid.) Outside of that, THIS ONE CREEPED ME OUT. The body horror was very effective, with the only thing holding it back being the fact that Lee isn’t the most likable protagonist in the podcast, but if this happened to someone else I’d be even more upset. Still though, it was a very creative concept, and the whole vibe and execution of the episode made it great.

- Episode 15, Lost Johns’ Cave 🕯️

- Episode 16, Arachnophobia 🕷️

Statement of Carlos Vittery, regarding his arachnophobia and its manifestations.

The way they tackled the concept in the title was really well done. Arachnophobia is seen as an irrational fear by a lot of people, so having it portrayed as an effect of childhood trauma was a good call. And as someone who is not arachnophobic, this episode got me close to feeling that way. What ever force was making Carlos relive his trauma is a sick fuck. Also the cat was a real one, glad he survived the whole situation. (Also THE WORMS, HOLY SHIT IT’S THE SEX WORMS!!!)

- Episode 17, The Boneturner’s Tale 🦴

Statement of Sebastian Adekoya, regarding a new acquisition at Chiswick Library.

This episode really compelled me to get out the rubber bands connecting images lmao. I really liked all of the connections to past statements here, like the presence of another book from the library of Jurgen Leitner, to the mention of Micheal Crew. The body horror here was once again very creepy, (outside of the flat rat, that was morbidly funny), but my favorite part of the episode was the introduction of Elias, which was a humorous, but also very intriguing scene. Also, the themes of books containing power was great as well. Great stuff all around.

- Episode 18, The Man Upstairs 🥩

Statement of Christof Rudenko, regarding his interactions with a first floor resident of Welbeck House, Wandsworth.

…ew. Ok in all seriousness, this is probably my least favorite episode so far. Still very far from bad, but after all of the extremely interesting themes and plot threads, having an episode where the idea was just “What if a guy had a house covered in meat? Wouldn’t that be fucked up?”, felt just a little bit underwhelming. Which like, the fact that my least favorite episode’s biggest problem is that I find it slightly pales in comparison to previous ones is just a testament to how much I’ve been enjoying the podcast. Still though, there were definitely a few things I really liked. The reveal of the room was creepy (especially considering the meat that seemed…alive…), and as someone who has had to deal with upstairs neighbors making noise for hours during construction, this episode definitely scared me.

- Episode 19, Confession, and Episode 20, Desecrated Host ✝️

Statement of Father Edwin Burroughs, regarding his claimed demonic possession.

This, alongside Lost Johns’ Cave, was one (or I guess, two…) of those episodes that seriously fucked me up. While I am not religious, I have always had fears of how religion can negatively affect me and the people around me, despite the good that it seems to do for so many people. So seeing Edwin be charged for every “sin” he committed by a higher power that wishes to steal its faith, and then not get judged by it, but by the people around him for his one true sin, was absolutely haunting, and I hope he turns out ok in the end. Outside of the horror, the episodes were fantastic. Listening to the events of Episode 8 from Edwin’s perspective, and seeing how Ivo’s actions saved him, was really cool, and solidifies in my mind that Ivo’s experience was real. The connections to demonic magic and Latin script thickened, and it was overall just a great mid-season finale. In conclusion, I hope that Martin feels better soon, and if he isn’t actually sick and is being plagued by ✨the horrors✨, well then I hope he survives :).

There was another test screening of THE OLD GUARD 2 and

All I will say (because I can't say anything and I hate spoilers so I would never divulge pre-release info) is that if this film is completed before the end of the year, it would be as miraculous as the existence of immortals.

I've been to test screenings and they always warn the attendees that it is unfinished and maybe the lighting isn't correct or there is placeholder music, yadda yadda yadda. This time they showed a brief production reel to show how some of the scenes will be fixed and showed some of the stand-in footage so that it wouldn't be jarring for the audience. But there was a LOT of stand-in footage and storyboarding in lieu of actual scenes.

I've been to many test screenings where there are several scenes where they have the stand-in footage or unrendered GGI, but never the extent of this one. I was chatting afterwards with someone else who was in the screening and he said he too had never been to a test screening with so much footage still undone.

The guy who sat behind me went to a test screening last week for another film (THE BOOK OF CLARENCE) and despite starting out by saying, "I shouldn't be saying anything with the NDA and all", proceeds to tell the entire film to his seatmates, and due to proximity, me. He loved it FWIW.) and he said that that film was pretty much complete just that they have to erase the wires from the wirework and the stunt pads that were still visible. I would be fine with that level of incompletion.

Of course there is more to TOG2 than action scenes so it's understandable to test to try to get a feel for audiences' reaction to the story and plotting so that things can be fixed in the edit, if needed. Yet, because this is a property so reliant on the action and CGI that not having that completed or, at least, further along in completion, or having stand-in ADR (when someone else does the dialogue so that they can then get the actor to do the ADR later so you're hearing voices obviously not belonging to the cast.)

, is a big enough distraction that I am curious as to how people reviewed the film afterwards. There was a test screening a month and 5 days ago and I'm curious as the feedback that came from that screening.

But, c'est la vie. I can't wait to see the finished project. Whenever that is.

That final battle with everyone gathered together was so cool. William shitting on mal's head as a bird was hilarious. Moving on, will's death?? Its so brutal and sad like his last words were an apology?? Absolutely insane I actaully cried. Dakotas reaction was especially heartbreaking like. Man. He just screams and cries and hes so upset. But also vyncent just lashing out and attacking the trickster?? Tide falling to his knees and comforting dskota was just. Ourgshdh. Then they attacked the trickster together and the heroes gave dakota their power? Reflects the thing with the sword from s1 its wonderful and Mark running over to ashe?? And then kimuri just beating the shit out of will for like an entire day? I feel really bad for will because he's terrified and been through so much but he really needed to hear that and figure things out and the thing with the wisp and his acceptance was so good. And then bizly hits us with CLARENCE?? With the VA FOR DANNY PHANTOM??? Like what the hell man. Anyway will coming back and dakota and vyncent being so happy but also mad and upset felt so well done I love it. And then the ending?? ASHE WAKING UP AND THEN IT JUST ENDS???!! All in all I think this is definitely my favourite pd episode and I'm so glad we get wills wisp powers back again. i started off with clarence's route because that's apparently the recommended one to start with and MAN.. eden is WILD SO FAR. the setting reminds me of some weird fusion of mad max and fallout (plus gem magic??)

i said this before, but clarence's route REALLLLY felt so much like naledi/lin's route as well. which as the resident naledi fan, i was genuinely hyped as fuck about. sorry clarence girlies! i think i liked clarence's godheim route better, but tbh his eden one was SUPER sweet so i cannot complain at all.

a little weird how easily the whole "this world will end in disaster if [REDACTED SPOILER] doesn't happen" was brushed aside in the epilogue but i'll have to see what else happens in the other routes... i plan on doing lars' next hehe

as for alkaid - i LOVE fucked up and evil alkaid. they did this really cool "socially stunted and traumatized weirdo who only knows what being a gentlemen is from his books" which is a super fun twist on his usually genuine and thoughtful self. gotta love a well-intentioned extremist too. im saving his route for last so im genuinely curious how they'll go about it...

also extremely funny that there are cuck endings if you choose to go to alkaid's garden in the other boys' routes. alkaid sweetie i love you with my full heart - even your fucked up and twisted au self - but this isn't your route. patience.

A Christmas Carol Holiday Season: "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983 animated short)

This 25-minute Christmas Carol was a landmark for the Walt Disney Company in several ways. First of all, it was the first theatrical Mickey Mouse cartoon released since the 1950s. Secondly it marks the voice acting debut of Wayne Allwine as Mickey Mouse and Alan Young as Scrooge McDuck – characters they would voice until their respective deaths in 2009 and 2016 – as well as the last time Donald Duck was voiced by his original actor, Clarence "Ducky" Nash.

The cartoon's premise is simple: A Christmas Carol starring Disney's iconic animal characters. Scrooge McDuck stars as his own namesake, Ebenezer Scrooge, with Mickey Mouse as Bob Cratchit, and Scrooge's "real-life" nephew Donald Duck as Fred. Goofy is cast as a uniquely clumsy, comical version of Marley's Ghost, while the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future are portrayed by Jiminy Cricket, Willie the Giant from Mickey and the Beanstalk, and (spoiler alert) Peg-Leg Pete. Daisy Duck appears as young Scrooge's fiancée Isabelle (as she's named here), Minnie Mouse makes a silent cameo appearance as Mrs. Cratchit, and the supporting and background roles consist of many familiar figures from Disney's classic Silly Symphonies and animated features.

Predictably, the story is retold in a concise, abbreviated way. Christmas Past omits Scrooge's childhood, Christmas Present consists only of visiting the Cratchits, and Christmas Future just shows Scrooge two graves, Tiny Tim's and his own. And for both comic and dramatic effect, the whole story is slightly exaggerated. Scrooge's villainy is cranked up: he only gives Bob half of Christmas Day off, without pay, and praises Jacob Marley for having "robbed from the widows and swindled the poor." The Cratchits' Christmas dinner consists of a bird literally as small as a canary. And at the climax (recalling Scrooge of 1970), Scrooge falls into his own grave toward a coffin from which hellish fire spews. But of course the ending is happy, as the redeemed Scrooge indulges the Cratchit children with toys and makes Bob his new partner.

Not all Dickens lovers will enjoy such a cartoonish retelling, but to me at least, it has enough charm to justify its lasting popularity. Even intertwined with slapstick and exaggeration, the story's emotions can still be felt: the brief, silent scene involving Tiny Tim's death, with a tearful Mickey/Bob placing Tim's crutch against his tombstone, is especially poignant. The cast of both new and veteran voice actors makes the most of their roles, the warm and colorful animation is of the quality we expect from Disney, and the main musical theme, "Oh What A Merry Christmas Day," is a sweet, memorable melody.

This cartoon can't replace a faithful adaptation of the book, but as a warm, funny, engaging Christmas Carol for children, it's a classic.

If it's not spoilers could we get some facts about Mcs parents/family ?

Sure! MC's parents were King Pavel and Queen Alina. MC had 5 siblings: Catalina, Florin, Dinis, Clarence and Alistair.

King Pavel was a weak king, he was too soft hearted. Queen Alina was a good match for him as she balanced him out, the marriage was political but they seemed to make the most out of it.

During the prologue only 2 of MC's siblings were living in the palace.

Alistair is MC's twin brother. Younger than MC by 2 minutes.

Clarence was the smartest out of all siblings, always reading books far above his age. His room looked like a second library.

Unlike Clarence who was introverted, the rest of MC's brothers were all extroverted. Catalina was introverted but she preferred to stay outside in the gardens rather than stay inside reading books like Clarence.

oh yes i have!!! im a bit rusty bc the last time i watched an ep was around this time last year but again the whole series is kind of ingrained into my head so

ok heres the list

1. classroom (s2e22)

i just love this one so much because it reminds me of an experience i’d have in elementary. the plot is that a test is supposed to take a place but there are technical difficulties that melanie and jim spend the whole episode fussing over, meanwhile there are a bunch of seperate plots going on inside the classroom between the kids and their little antics they’re going through despite being ordered to sit still until everything is sorted out, which of course they don’t do. in the end melanie is just like oh whatever lets just take the day off. and she joins in hanging out with the kids

2. belsons backpack (s2e36)

AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHDHDHHDEHRHDHDSJDJDDDUDIDKDKKDK. THIS ONE IS SOOOO. Ok SO what happens is belson and clarence accidentally switch bags and clarence finds this comic belsons been making out of pages of some sort of zoology book about dolphins, with the main protagonist named bodhi. of course clarence confronts belson about it and he’s like Omg i didnt know you liked comics!!! I love this so much you should make more!!! with his gay ass and belson of course denies any connection. but instead of it ending there, he keeps making them and secretly giving them to clarence. i dont remember exactly what happens to initiate the next events but it ends in clarence coming to belsons house and helping him through writers block and spoilers belson literally cries. over how sweet clarence is. head in hands

3. lil buddy (s1e41)

loooots of people don’t like this one at all but it’s so special to me. they dont like it because it’s “ugly and creepy” but like honestly? as an autistic it resonates with me so much with how i used to feel as a kid if something i liked / relied on was taken away from me. i used to have a ton of meltdowns and panic attacks over the smallest things so seeing clarence go through the same thing in this episode. AUGH just ive cried several times watching this ep its so touching and its so sweet at the end. Please Watch It !!!! im not even describing what actually happens throughout it bc i want anyone who hasn’t seen it to watch it as spoiler free as possible (you might remember seeing those memes about clarence shaving his head and wearing a black hoodie, this is what that’s from)

4. rise and shine (s1e12)

another one that i like just bc its so cozy. the whole premise is clarence wakes up early like at 4 or 5 am i think, and we see his whole little morning routine that involves trashing the house and then cleaning it up again all before mary and chad wake up. it does have a plot like with this mountain lion that made its way into his backyard but i dont care that much abt that part tbh. again it’s mostly the feeling of the episode

5. the entire stormy sleepover saga (s3e5-10)

not even gonna say anything about this one for two reasons. one is spoilers and two is because id be here until 11 am (it is 5 am) if i did so. just know it is the best thing to come out of the whole series Ever and it is the closest thing to clarence being serialised there is.

6. balance (s1e50)

speaking of serialised stuff in this show!!! this one comes directly after the episode “in dreams” where jeremy, a kid clarence meets in his dreams and does everything he can to make clarence stay asleep and play with him, makes his debut. ok i know based off that description jimmy sounds like some kinda villain but he’s sweet and just wants a friend ok. there is not a single Bad Guy in clarence and if you disagree you are wrong. but yeah the episode balance is where balance, who i kid you not looks like a clarence x belson fan kid, shows up first. basically throughout the episode he causes a bunch of problems for clarence and belson but appears as a goody two shoes to the rest of the school, at the end even hypnotising the staff momentarily, before he gets sprayed with a hose and gets thrown back into his little clown car with similar versions of jeff, sumo and belson in there with him. just a really bizarre episode that has some cool lore stuff

and finally number 7 is video store (s3e35)

this one is so good its crazy. it has no direction or planned plot, it is literally just the voice actors messing around in the studio acting as the main three in a video store, trying to find the perfect movie to watch that they can all agree on and have never seen, while making the store clerk’s life hell. it is definitely one of the funniest episodes i can tell you that confidently

Book Of Clarence Review

If there is one thing I love, it's blasphemy. Okay, okay, jokes aside, I was legitimately excited for this movie. I really like theology and religion from an academic standpoint, and I'm always down to see different perspectives and takes on mythology. Plus, man, the trailer and premise was super cool. I love me some grifters.

What's The Movie About?

Clarence is a weed dealer in debt to a gang boss, and since the movie takes place in biblical times, his get rich quick scheme is to become a false messiah. Also, everyone in the movie is black except for the Roman soldiers and one beggar. This (apparently) is the first time Jesus has been depicted in a movie as a black man. If that offends you, read an actual historical textbook while touching some grass.

What I Like.

This movie is style over substance, so my real recommendation comes on whether you can enjoy that or not. I can, and the style of the movie is pretty awesome. I also enjoyed all the characters in the movie, I know a bit of the bible and it was pretty interesting to see how they cast and performed various figures from the time. I love how Jesus is just basically an X-Man and for the first half of the movie you never see his face. There's one character called Barabbas the Immortal, who is the coolest motherfucker ever. Speaking of cool, there is two scenes in particular I goddamn love, one involving Barabbas and another with the Last Supper. The music in the movie is also top notch. I mean, obviously, Jay-Z not only produced but provided music for the soundtrack along with a bunch of other black artists. Of course it's good. And the movie is pretty funny too.

What I Don't Like.

As previously mentioned, the style of the movie certainly overtakes the substance, and while I'm totally behind it, there were still some moments where I was like "Wait, this scene doesn't make sense with the world you set up." AND THAT ENDING! The ending is horrible. It pulls my most hated cliche out of a hate. Skip to the next section if you want to avoid spoilers but, hey Movie Writers. If you are out there reading this, STOP BRING CHARACTER'S WHO HAVE AN EMOTIONAL DEATH SCENE BACK TO LIFE. IT CHEAPENS THE PREVIOUS SCENE AND MAKES THE AUDIENCE LOSE ALL INVESTMENT CURRENT SCENE, IF NOT THE ENTIRE MOVIE.

Final Summation.

I actually finished writing the reviews from the other movies I saw the same day I saw Book of Clarence. But I want to release my reviews in the order I see these movies, and I was very split on whether to recommend this movie or not. Because those cool moments are pretty damn cool. And I got pretty invested in Clarence and his story. But god help me that ending is horrible. Honestly, if I could let you know when to leave early without spoiling the ending, I'd tell you to just leave during the final scene.

My point is I was left in a predicament. Do I tell you not to go see this movie with cool style that was written, directed, produced, and most acted by black people just because some scenes made no sense and the ending blew chunks? I had to stew for a bit before I realized. I don't want to be a white person telling you not to go see a black movie because I have some problems. Yes, I'm recommending this movie because of white guilt, deal with it.

No, but seriously, there's some pretty cool shit in this movie, and I would definitely be interested in seeing more movies like this.
