Lesbian Helen of Troy Let's Goooooooo
Planning to write a Helen of Troy retelling where she gets into a love triangle with Eris, goddess of strife, and the prophet Cassandra, sister of Paris. It would also be heavily character focused, and delve into her relationship with her sister Clytemnestra. Basically it's all about the circumstances which lead to her making the choice to leave Sparta and kick off the Trojan war. A traditional Greek Tragedy with a sapphic twist.

Gods I'm thinking about Chris/Clarisse/Silena/Beckendorf polycule so much
Rereading scenes from tlo and why they're much smaller moments, it just feels so much like they were all together-
Tumblr media
The way he trails off?? The way Thaila stepped in quickly in a way you see people do to rush things along when someone I obviously upset?
Like, just in general the idea of Clarisse falling in love with two who technically worked for Luke? And who suffered from that? And just- ugh
Chris is also seen with Clarisse comforting Silena after Beckendorf's death. And just the whole time he seems like he's trying to keep it together for all of them.
I know it probably me over-analyzing,but let's be honest that's most of my post hdhdf
Also, just think about Chris having known about Silena, and kept it to himself cause he knew the position she was in.
We see him described as looking "guilty" with Beckendorf's death, and overall just love the idea of Silena and him bounding. Her using her charmspeak to pull him out of panic attacks and him supporting her through dealing with Luke
I just 😭
I know I seen some people tend to use the Achilles and Patroclus parrels with Ruegard as a way to say that Clarisse didn't romantically love Chris by comparing him to Briseis but???
Like- wouldn't that be the other way around then???
Also over all its not a great comparison cause Chris was a guy they rescued unlike Briseis who was a literal trophy wife.
Like she was a prisoner of war, that Achilles literally got upset over being taken away from him. Like the Achilles and Patroclus and Clarisse and Silena thing is fair but like...Briseis was literally forced to be with the greeks. Chris wasn't. He wanted nothing to do with Luke or Kronos anymore.
Literally the chariot thing in the books? That's a comparison between Achilles vs Agamemmon and Clarisse vs Michael in a lot less uncomfortable way
Cause they're fighting over Briseis,a human, like the Ares and Apollo cabin fight over the chariot.
Actually, it's because of Apollo ironically that they ended up there.
BECAUSE AGAMEMMON WAS UPSET HE HAD TO GIVE ANOTHER GIRL BACK TO A PRIEST OF APOLLO AFTER APOLLO PLAGUED THE GREEKS.
SO HE TOOK ACHILLES' TROPHY WIFE INSTEAD
Like, yes there's comparisons, but this is another case of ancient heroes vs modern heroes theme I could go on about hdhdf

I’m tired today so here
Remus was sitting in the common room reading Homer’s ‘The Iliad’ (again) when he heard one of his various nicknames being called.
“Remuuuuuuuuuuuuu! Moonyyyyy!” Sirius came swinging around the doorframe smiling, “found you Moony. You can’t hide from me!”
He plopped himself down next to Remus, practically in his lap, on the couch. “Watchu reading dear Remus?” They said smiling.
“The Iliad, what do you need Pads?” Remus said, setting down the book to look at his girlfriends face. Sirius had a smirk on his face and a mischievous glint in his eyes, the same face he always had when she got away with a prank. “What did you and James do?”
“Glitter,” was all they said before sprawling across Remus’ lap. “Haven’t you already read the Iliad… several times in fact. Why not try something new?”
“Like what?” He said picking up his book.
Sirius frowned at that, “Liiiiiiiiiike paying attention to me, you know, your lovely boyfriend!”
“Is that so?” He said, setting the book back down to look at Sirius, who was now laying down, using Remus as a pillow. “I might just do that actually.”
And that is how James and Peter found them two hours later, asleep with Remus’ hands slowly running through Sirius’ long black hair.

since you've at least read the oddessy (i'm not sure about the illaid), i was wondering if you know what translation you read? (unless you can read ancient greek, which i wouldn't be too surprised about tbh)
I cannot read ancient Greek no
I read it on this site called poetry in translation! It seems to be pretty similar to some translations I've seen, but in prose

Deponia is like what if a guy spoke the entire illaid as the reason why you shouldn’t kick him out of the apartment for not doing his dishes.

People always talk about how when Achilles died, he died with a smile on his face because he was going to be reunited with Patroclus. But not nearly enough people talk about how he entered the underworld happily expecting to meet Patroclus and he wasn’t there. Imagine how long he had to wait for, not knowing when he’d meet Patroclus again.

the parallels between ash and eiji and Achilles and Patroclus
just- my heart
ash lived and life and was trained to be great knowing that some day it would cost him, but he found someone who gave him his humanity and innocence back despite the circumstances. LIKE ITS ACHILLES AND PATROCLUS
like look at these goddamn quotes
“We reached for each other and I thought of how many nights I had lain awake in this room loving him in silence.” -Madeline Miller in the Song of Achilles
Tumblr media
“I conjure the boy I knew. Achilles, grinning as the figs blur in his hands. His green eyes laughing into mine. Catch, he says. Achilles, outlined against the sky, hanging from a branch over the river.” -Madeline Miller in the Song of Achilles
Tumblr media
“But listen to me first and swear an oath to use all your eloquence and strength to look after me and protect me.” Homer the Illaid
Tumblr media
“Any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.” Homer The Illaid

I started reading again and its good and fun but indo hate it cos my brain compiles a 500 book long reading list and i end up thinking about reading another book while trying to focus on the current one. also i read at like an insanely fast speed which is great for stupid essay length tumblr posts however NOT good for actual literature. LITERALLY its 2021 people with adhd should be allowdd to download books directly into their brain i think

I may love The Song of Achilles, but nothing is better than in The Illiad when Patroclus looks Hector dead on in the face and tells him that he isn’t worth shit.

I have felt so many pangs in my fingertips, blood seeping out of each tier of the knuckle, it only coagulates when I see your face, the sunshine encircling you, madonna, angel that you are, hold me like the pieta, my body a temple destroyed by the excesses of human greed, of human frailty, my hamartia was loving too much, far too deeply than I could comprehend, and the gods deigned you the object of my worship; how many Illaids am I going to have to write, how many Horses am I going to have to build, before I get it though my head Helen never loved Paris, and she never loved the other guy, either, so what the hell did she think when all these morons decided she did? I’ve fought too hard and too long, my homecoming tinged with melancholy, nobody paid much attention, they gave me a pat on the back and told me they’d probably never see me again, even though I just got back; they couldn’t care less, turns out, ten years goes by in a blink now.
