Dazai and Ranpo: The Two Geniuses of the ADA
The thought about making a post about Dazai and Ranpo's teamwork has been plaguing my mind for a while now, and so I finally found some time and decided to go through with it.
So let's talk about one of my favourite underrated duos for a moment. The two geniuses of the ADA- Dazai and Ranpo. Two people who make a wonderful team and are actually, in my opinion, the backbone of the agency.
What I find interesting is that (though I believe that Dazai respects and admires all members of the ADA) Dazai openly admires Ranpo A LOT. He's always quick to praise Ranpo (basically fanboying over him and it's quite adorable to see Dazai gush over someone like that other than Oda) and in 'Dazai's Entrance Exam' we see him being surprised over the fact that Ranpo's ability is not actually an ability and we see him further praise Ranpo's intellect after finding that out.
Tumblr media
Despite the fact that Dazai is a huge mystery, even to the people around him, Ranpo figured out that there was something up with Dazai in just a single glance (in 'Dazai's entrance exam'). And despite knowing that Dazai was probably hiding a sinister past, he didn't press him any further for details (probably in order to respect his privacy or his wish to not disclose his past OR maybe due to the the fact that knowing Dazai, he most likely wouldn't answer truthfully even if questioned about it)
Tumblr media
What I also love is that even though both of them are extremely intelligent, their intellect differs in such a way that Ranpo is a master of deduction and Dazai is a master of manipulation (as stated by Kunikida in 'The Daily Routine of the Detective Agency'). However, one thing both of them share in common is that they both felt isolated due to their nature.
Tumblr media
They may have limited interactions but their interactions are always my favourite, for instance-
1. Dazai's entrance exam - Dazai's admiration and respect towards Ranpo
Tumblr media
2. Season 1 - Murder on D-Street - Dazai showing a good understanding of Ranpo's deduction process and acknowledging that Ranpo caught onto more details than him
3. Season 2 - "Mountains or sea?" " Sea. "
Showing their unspoken communication. They can read each other's minds at this point lol.
4. Season 3 - Ranpo basically acknowledging that Dazai would be a tough opponent to go up against by comparing Fyodor to him (sort of praising his intellect in a way)
5. Season 5 - The Strongest Man in the Agency- Ranpo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dazai keeping an eye on Fyodor while leaving the rest to Ranpo
Dazai relying on his allies- trusting Ranpo to negotiate with Bram in order to undo the vampire curse.
Tumblr media
6. Dead Apple - Ranpo seeing through Dazai's plan beforehand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. 55 minutes - Seeing through upcoming events beforehand, one thing Dazai made sure was to inform Ranpo about the whole fiasco on Standard Island in order to save the Agency in the end.
Also, sidenote: I found out that the Dazai and Ranpo duo is named Souheki, which translates to double jade. Now, I'm not sure if this information is fanon or canon (feels more like fanon tbh but I really like it because it's a pretty name)
Anyway, one thing we can say for sure is that as long as the two geniuses of the Agency- Souheki work together, the ADA will most likely remain undefeated cause no one really does it like them
Tumblr media
Lastly, just some food for thought. I've always wondered how Dazai would react if he found out that Ranpo met Oda TWICE and the second time he met him was right before Oda went on to his certain death.
Honestly, I would LOVE to see more fleshed out and direct interactions between these two.

I should be writing more for the prom series, but I don't want to right now. I will finish it before the end of April though. Synopsis: Reader gets to go to Meursault, Fyodor and Dazai are annoying. gn reader Words: 500 ish Pairing: Dazai/reader/Fyodor (?) Warnings: light cursing
It all happened in the blink of an eye. You didn’t have a clue how they found you, but it sure was quick.
For hours, everything was dark. You couldn’t see or hear a thing, and your limbs were braced in a chair. To say you were scared would be an understatement. The agency feared that you would be executed, but you knew better.
“Well, it seems like another prisoner has come in.” A velvety voice came from your left side.
A sigh came from the right, “I should have seen this coming.”
When you were finally able to open your eyes to look around, you found that you were in Meursault. Fyodor and Dazai were on either side of you, and you let out a groan. “You’ve gotta be kidding me!” This was going to be the most mind-numbing prison sentence ever.
“So, what are you in for?” The brunette asked, a smile beginning to tug at his mouth.
You paused to think, “Hmmm let's see…association with the ADA, association with the Port Mafia, association with you.” You counted on your fingers. “Also tax evasion, but I’m a little confused about that one.”
“I see.”
“You know, I’m not even mad. Compared to how crazy things have been on the outside, this is a vacation.”
You would soon find out that it certainly was not a vacation when the two foes in front of you constantly bickered back and forth. Their little brain games annoyed you, especially since you didn’t have the mental capacity they did (they were practically geniuses after all). It wasn’t like you could just join in.
There wasn’t much for you to do aside from reading a couple of books on the table by your bed, which wasn’t even comfy. You hung your head off the edge, your hair dangling.
“You know, you’re gonna get a headache.”
“I don’t care, I’m bored.”
“We could psychoanalyze your childhood trauma?” Fyodor suggests.
“Yeah, I’ll pass.”
He pauses, “Hmm, could that be a sign of avoidant behavior?”
“You know, now that you mention it,” Dazai begins, “They tend to work by themselves at the office when they can, isolating themselves for hours. You could be onto something.”
Were they teasing you to pass the time? Whatever it was, you didn’t like it. “You are so dramatic. I stay after work to ensure I finish everything. That’s what you should be doing since you never get anything done.”
“They’re getting defensive.”
“Would you shut up?!” The three of you were interrupted when you fell into a sudden hole in the floor. “What the hell?” After a rough landing, you looked up to find Dazai on the ground next to you. You were in a brand new area you hadn’t seen before.
“You alright?” He asks.
You nod, pushing yourself up off the floor. “What’s going on?”
“Just stay close to me.” He glanced at Fyodor and now Nikolai and Sigma, who seemed to be the reason for your escape from your cell. “Things are about to get a little more interesting.”

I love how Bungou Stray Dogs writes Geniuses.
Dazai and Dostoyevsky are very obvious foils, but BSD never lets that feel lazy, because the two still have distinct ideologies and strategies. The line is less blurred with the two. Both are willing to kill, to manipulate and to utilise any means necessary to achieve their goals. In the script distinguish themselves majorly in one particular way, which is their understanding of God (or at least fate) and their perspective of humanity. Fyodor believes fate rewards perfection and harmony while Dazai posits that the works of destiny are happenstance and absurdity. Fyodor thinks he's controlling the situation while Dazai says the ones making the World move are the people trapped in contingency. They both agree that humans are sinful and foolish. But to Fyodor that makes them undeserving and boring, while Dazai says that their inherent flaws make them great. They aren't different in an intellectual level, only an ideological one.
Then compare than to Ranpo, noted as the strongest man in the agency. A kind of walking deus ex machina with Ultra Deduction, but a really complex character. We saw him as a strategist in Cannibalism, except that he largely was supporting Kunikida, but now he's essentially running all of the ADA operations. He fails to account for all the contingencies that Dostoyevsky would implement, but arguably knows the limitations and capabilities of the ADA better than even Dazai (think of that scene where they're planning to take down the moby dick).
I like how Ranpo and Dazai are portrayed in their respective arcs right now. Ranpo's strategies are explained clearly to the audience, with flashbacks to him explaining their route of action occurring as the plot unfolds, and clear agendas and techniques used in real time. In contrast, Dazai's plans are kept secret even from the reader, so we are left oblivious to his true agenda and plan.
Then compare that to Mori, who is a very grounded genius. He's smart enough to calculate that Fukuchi is Kamui, which before only Ranpo had deduced, and has been running the port mafia, even maintaining it during intense internal turmoil from when different factions were fighting against him. In the dark era we even see him out manipulate Dazai, with him being the one to smuggle Mimic into Yokohama and leak the location of the orphans without Dazai knowing. But he doesn't have aspirations beyond keeping Yokohama safe, so most of his schemes are directly for the city or for the Port Mafia. He utilises peoples access to information, and affects their circumstances to influence their actions. He has a great understanding of how individuals will both act and react, and how to manipulate both.
There are multiple 'genius' characters, but they all have distinct skill sets and ideologies, and I love seeing how the narrative handles each if them.

alright so can i ask another part on my old request which was genius reader x Nikola and the scientist/male reader who is basically William James Sidis.
so like what if male reader never turn his back on science and knowledge and just did it in secret without Nikola and the other scientist knowing
(this was after they knew male reader was smart if not more smarter then them:
it happened when one of them said "if only there where other geniuses we knew…that can help us with this"
because they're having trouble with both a invention and mathematical problem and male reader heard this and said "more geniuses? i know people that might help!"the other scientist looked at male reader confused, because they thought, they where the only geniuses he knew,
so male reader led them to his laboratory/research area which they never knew and when they asked him why he didn't tell them about this, male reader hit them with the classic "because you didn't ask!"
the door looked like a big clock which made the other scientists confused on how they didn't see this! so when the hand hit 12 the clock door opened
the inside was a large steampunk looking laboratory with thousands of books reaching the ceilings making it look like a library, paper scattered the floor, inventions left and right
and having two floors! and having rooms like a chemistry room, craft room basically everything you need! basically a genius paradise!
as well as having a very large chalkboard ware Gottfried Leibniz and Goethe,Johann Wolfgang von was writing theories
on the side was leonardo da vinci painting a large mural on the side of the wall and Marilyn vos Savant was on the second floor and was talking with Ada Lovelace and Hypatia, Ettore Majorana was sitting down on one of the chairs reading a book and writing theories talking with charles darwin
and Mozart was playing the piano on a little stage to the side filling the room with a beautiful Melody
as well as Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson AND Andres Bonifacio as well as Jose Rizal himself taking to each other about they're respective revolution's and politics,
here's the list of everyone there!
the list:
1.) leonardo da vinci
iq:180-220
title:greatest inventor and painter of his time
2.) Goethe, Johann Wolfgang von
iq:210-225
title:A German poet, playwright, novelist, scientist, statesman, theatre director, and crit
3.) Marilyn vos Savant
iq:180-228
title:the smartest woman to have ever lived
4.) Gottfried Leibniz
iq:182-205
title:Russian Privy Councillor from Peter I as well as Privy Councillor at the Imperial Court in Vienna.
5.) Ettore Majorana
iq:183-200
title:the scientist who disappeared without a trace/the one who possibly discovered neutrons
6.) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
iq:150-155
title: the greatest and most well known composer in history
7.) Alexander Hamilton
iq:120-160
title:secretary of the treasury and one of the founding fathers
8.) Benjamin Franklin
iq:130-160
title:the father/discoverer of lightning and one of the founding fathers
9.) jose Rizal
iq:150-160
title:Father of Filipino Nationalism/the one who started the Philippines revolution
10.) andres bonifacio
iq:100-140??(not sure)
title:the Father of the Philippine Revolution/The Great Plebeian, Supremo of the Katipunan
11.) Thomas Jefferson
iq:160-175
title:one of American Founding Father/the principal author of the Declaration of Independence
12.) charles darwin
iq:150-165
title:the father of evolution /the one who put light on human evolution
13.) Hypatia
iq:170–210
title:the greatest Neoplatonist philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician of her time
14.) Ada Lovelace!
iq:170-200
title:mother of computer/the one who revolutionized computer programmer
(you can search their names if you want to know more)
and turns out all of those geniuses and male reader are literally the bestest of friends! like all of them yelling theories and opinions left and right and basically teaching and helping each other so that they can understand there respective fields/talents.
and turns out reader and the 14 geniuses would often hang out in reader's laboratory/research area, almost everyday because of how frequently they use his lab/area.
and so how would the other scientist and Nikola react to seeing male reader being the best of friends with the most important and greatest minds in history and how would they would they feel about it?
-It had been a few weeks since you showed off your intelligence, fixing a problem that your friends, Nikola, Marie, Isaac, and Thomas had been tearing their hair out over.
-It was a slow process for you to open up, helping them out with more of their problems and questions, as past trauma made it a little scary for you.
-However, once you started, you remembered how fun it was for you, working with complex problems, asking all sorts of questions, and discovering new breakthroughs.
-Nikola patted you on your back, looking proud as he looked over the newest equation you had been working on with Isaac, “This is amazing Y/N!”
-You gave him a warm smile and Marie, who was nearby, finishing her own research, “How did you not go crazy while not doing this stuff? I get antsy after just a few hours if I don’t work on something.”
-You just grinned, offering them a break and you led them down a long hallway, “There were other things to keep my mind busy- not just science and questions. And I had some help with it.”
-They came to a stop in front of a large metal door, covered with intricate clockwork mechanisms and you knocked before opening the door and their eyes went wide.
-Before them were so many more geniuses, not just scientists, but geniuses in their own fields, like Mozart, who was playing on the piano, greeting you as you walked in as he paused, writing a few more notes on his sheet music.
-You passed by Charles Darwin, greeting him who paused to greet you, as did Ettore Majorana, before returning to their conversation.
-You stopped at a large wall, seeing Leonardo Da Vinci painting a massive but stunningly beautiful mural, “Looks good Leo- you’ve been working hard!”
-Leonardo looked down, seeing you and the new guests, “Ahh hello my friends! I’m glad you like it- it will be even better once I’ve finished everything!”
-Thomas was in awe, seeing more of histories’ geniuses, just relaxing and working around the room, like Gottfried Leibniz, Goethe, Marilyn Vos Savant, Ada Lovelace, and Hypatia to name a few, and soon you were by yourself, speaking with Leonardo, as your friends had rushed to talk with the others in the room.
-You couldn’t help but grin, shaking your head like you were exasperated, seeing everyone quickly getting hyper- all of them enjoying having new faces and fresh minds to have discussions with.
-Your friends were quick to discover that while you weren’t working on science, or at least the science they were used to- you kept your mind sharp with your fellow brilliant minds.
-You sank into a nearby chair, leaning your cheek on your fist, a smile on your face- things were going to be loud for a while- but you didn’t mind, seeing the others all so happy as well.

Besides odazai, what are your other favourite bsd dynamics/relationships/etc? (doesn't necessarily have to be romantic btw. It could be mentorish etc too like mori and Dazai etc.)
More asks!
I really love a lot of the dynamics in BSD. Here are somes that specifically come to mind:
Atsushi and Dazai - i really love their relationship and I'm so sad we haven't seen them interact in so long. Begging Asagiri to bring Dazai back to the ADA. DazAtsu hug when??
Atsushi and Akutagawa - The parallels! The symbolism! SSKK have such a cool dynamic and I really wanna see it grow more and more in the future. Luckily they seem to be a focus again in the upcoming arc so that's exciting!
Atsushi and Kyouka - They are just. So pure, so precious. Just two kids who have come from horrible trauma supporting each other. Their love is so strong and tender and I hope they get to have fun together again soon...
Dazai and Kunikida - Another pair that has been horribly neglected recently. I miss their shenanigans. Really love how despite everything Dazai does to annoy Kunikida, when push comes to shove they are perfectly aligned and a scary competent duo. The way they push against each other to make each other better... I just care them a lot.
Dazai and Mori - God I could talk about them for hours! Absolutely unhinged about their relationship, there's so much going on under the surface, from Mori's completely overblown projection onto Dazai, to the way that he's the only one who ever successfully managed to outplay him, and all the betrayed trust and bitterness in between - its just. So delicious. I want to shove it all in my mouth.
Dazai and Ranpo - Very underrated dynamic, I wish we got more content of these two geniuses geniusing together. Or bullying their coworkers together. Or just. Hanging out.
Buraiha (Dazai, Oda & Ango) - Man. They just make me so sad and nostalgic. It's like they were this small save haven for each other where they could just exist as people, you know? Just be themselves and be silly and not care about all the darkness and shit going on in their lives. Of course it was never really true to begin with but... well, it's nice to pretend.
I could probably name like 20 more but I think I'll leave it at that for now.

@longerhuman liked this post to be forcibly given a baccano au!
First of all, thank you for liking this post. My excitement for giving characters Baccano! verses is unparalleled, and I actually think someone like Dazai already fits pretty seamlessly into the vibe of Baccano!’s universe.
My first instinct is naturally to place Dazai with one of the crime families. In keeping close with his canon circumstances, I think I can rule out both the Martillo family and the Gandor family as they are, while still crime families, a little too nice to the people who work for them and they don’t hold much power in the grand scheme of things ( and also, affiliation with either family exposes Dazai to the chance of becoming immortal, which even I’m not cruel enough to risk ). The Russo family in Chicago might be an alright choice, but they’re not nearly composed enough to come close to matching the Port Mafia’s vibe. As such, we’re left with one choice: The Runorata Family.
The Runorata Family: A medium sized mafia family in New Jersey. They’re a bit troublesome to the rest of the characters, serving as antagonists most of the time, but their leader Bartolo Runorata is praised for having survived Lucky Luciano’s cleansing of “old fashioned” mafia families. SEE: Gabriel & Juliano Barsotti, Melvi Dormentaire, Claire Stanfield, Sham.
Of the crime families in the show, the Runorata family is by far the mos influential, though they’re located in New Jersey rather than New York or Chicago. Their leader, Bartolo Runorata, is an incredibly charismatic and intelligent man, and he’s known for preserving the ruthlessness of the old-school mafia despite attempts by more famous gangsters to adapt the mafia to the modern age. Between the immortal drug manufacturer Begg Garrott and the strange bodyguards Gabriel and Juliano, I think Dazai would probably fit right into its eclectic bunch of dangerous geniuses.
Onto the issue of plot involvement, I think there’s a pretty good opportunity for Dazai to gain relevance in the Runoratas’ introductory novel, 1932 Drug & the Dominos. In this, I think there’s a good case to be made for Dazai serving as the brains behind the operation of drug distribution in New York, perhaps being put in the position of “backup” for the man in charge of the New York expansion, Gustavo Bagetta. Although Gustavo was set up for failure, I can see Bartolo finding merit in having some level of territory in New York, and placing Dazai there to clean up Gustavo’s mess.
Plot involvement on behalf of the Runorata Family becomes especially possible in the 1935 plotline, where the story revolves around a party being held to celebrate the opening of the Runorata managed casino, Ra’s Lance. In this situation, I can see Dazai being tasked to deal with Family affiliate Huey Laforet, since the two of them would appear to be on a similar level of intelligence; you can sort of think of Huey Laforet as the Baccano! equivalent of Fyodor. Aside from this, he’d probably have to attend the casino party himself and make sure Huey’s gopher Melvi Dormentaire doesn’t act out of line before he’s meant to.
Provided you wanted to develop him further and give him the equivalent of his move to the ADA, there’s also a place known as Fred’s Poorhouse which has a bit of a reputation for hiring and helping anyone, regardless of their affiliation, but I know you have a preference for Mafia!Dazai so I’ve left this point as an afterthought.

Brotherly Discomfort
Summary: After ‘the talk’, your brothers are adamant to protect you, but you throw yet another curveball their way. Part 2 to Growing Pains
Tumblr media
(Gif by @nofckingfighting)  A/N: This is part 2 to my most popular fic Growing Pains and I used anon’s request: Could you do a Shelby sis story where she’s a lesbian and in love with a woman and her family doesn’t know. The family is trying to get her into an arranged marriage with a man and she can’t figure out how to tell them she’s a lesbian cause she feels they won’t except her? Sorry if that’s too much. Love your writing so much btw!! Thanks for this request babes, hope I did it justice :)  Words: 2387
*** “Right, Y/N, sit down,” Tommy sighed deeply and pointed at a single chair by the kitchen table, “We need to talk.” As you sat down, three brothers loomed over you. Tommy lit a cigarette like his life depended on it, Arthur couldn’t stand still if his life depended on it and John seemed to have forgotten what his life actually depended on, so he just stood there, unsure of everything. “We’re having another talk,” you stated. The last one, only a few days ago, was still fresh in your mind.
“We are,” you brother confirmed. Arthur took off his cap like he was attending a funeral and stumbled, “We, uhm… We’ve had an idea.” “Christ,” Polly mumbled from behind her newspaper and you couldn’t agree more. “The thing is,” John finally spoke, “We’ve been worried after we… talked.” “Right,” you nodded, “Because of he subject of our conversation?” “It’s not just that!” your brother continued, with a slight frantic edge to his voice, “You’re growing up, but you’re still running around with the dogs at all hours. You won’t listen to anyone, do whatever you please…” Tommy continued where John faltered, “The truth is, Y/N, you’re getting to be too wild.” “Oh, fuck off, Tom,” and you got up with every intention to leave the room. “Sit down,” he said sternly, “We can’t have another Ada situation.” “Situation?” your eyebrows shot up, “What do you fucking mean by a fucking situation?” “The baby, Y/N,” Arthur explained. “I’m sorry,” you were boiling inside now, “but please explain: was the baby the problem or the man she had the baby with the problem? Or possibly, maybe, the fact that you three had no say in the matter?!” “That’s not the point,” John could feel this conversation wasn’t going as planned, “The thing is we couldn’t stop it!” Polly scoffed behind you, so at least you felt like someone was on your side. After a few moments of silence, your anger got the better of you and you slammed a hand down on the table in a very Tommy manner, “So what did you three fucking geniuses come up with?” Tommy pointed at you menacingly, “You fucking watch your mouth. You may be sixteen but I will still wash your mouth out with soap if you don’t mind that tongue…” “Minding my tongue…” you repeated, rolling your eyes, “Fine. So, what’s the plan? Arthur? John? Are we going back to the old ways and am I being married off to some good gypsy boy?” You turned around at Polly and laughed at your own joke, but when the room fell silent once again, you realised you’d hit the jackpot. Arthur had known you since the day you were born. He’d been twelve at the time and he could recognise every little expression on your face. Like when you were little, you used to scrunch up your nose just before you were about to cry for hunger. Or when you were sad, a small wobble in your chin just before the tears. Or when you were angry, a wrinkle in your forehead gave away the tantrum that was about to follow. This was happening right now. So he held up both hands and said, “Y/N, he’s from a good family…” “Nope,” you said, adamantly. “He is,” John confirmed gently, “and he has horses.” “Fucking no,” you shook your head. Tommy sighed, “We already made the deal.” “You promised your sister, just like that. That’s low, even coming from you, Thomas,” Polly’s cold voice sounded. If there was one person who could break his tough exterior, it was his aunt, “Well, what the fuck should we have done, Pol? Let her run wild, like you, eh?” But you stood up and walked over to Tommy. This was the man who had raised you, cared for you and disciplined you most of all, but right now, none of it mattered. So you slapped him hard, once. “Undo it Tommy,” you hissed, “Undo it or I’ll fucking cut you.” In the background you could hear Arthur mumble at once, “Okay, we’ll undo it…” “Give me one good reason,” your brother’s face, now only inches away, remained emotionless. You sighed and decided to throw all caution to the wind. “Anna,” you said, calmly. “What?” John asked immediately. So you repeated, voice raised, “Anna!” Three frowning brother stared at you, not understanding at all. “Remember when you asked me what hisname was, last week?” you called out exasperated. “’John’, wasn’t it?” Arthur looked at you. “No, it wasn’t fucking ‘John’, Arthur, she just said so,” John explained to his oldest brother. Tommy lit another cigarette, “What’s your point, Y/N?” You pointed at your neck where the nearly faded hickey could still be seen if you knew, “The name of the girl who gave me this is Anna.” “That would be bloody fantastic actually, because we wouldn’t have to worry anymore about a baby situation…” John squinted, “I think she’s serious…” “Oooooh fuck…” Arthur sighed, suddenly connecting the dots; “We’ve been keeping an eye on the wrong fucking people, John.” But John burst out laughing, “Didn’t see that one coming, did you, Tommy?” Slowly, your brother sat down and started smoking his second cigarette, “Pol, contact Madame Ross, tell her the wedding is off.” But Aunt Polly was having none of it, “You got us into this mess, you can fix it.” And then fear settled suddenly into the pit of your stomach. You looked at Tommy and asked softly, “Are you mad?” “Nope,” he said, head dropped down into his hands. “Disappointed?” “No, I’m not disappointed. But you should’ve told us, eh?” You shrugged, “Didn’t think you’d… approve.” “Why?” John asked, “We don’t care that you like women.” And all the love you had in you went out to your brother in that very moment. “Y/N,” Arthur started and he looked so angry that uncertainty took over again, “Why the fuck did you not tell us before we… explained?” “Because it was hilarious,” Polly commented unhelpfully. John started giggling again, “Fucking unnecessary is what it was.” “Arthur?” you asked, fear seeping into your voice. He sighed deeply, fidgeting with his hat, “It’s not the women, Y/N, I don’t care about that. It’s you and… anyone really. I don’t like the idea of you with anyone. Remember when she used to play with the coals, remember John?” “Yeah, I remember,” John smiled. “Black like the night she’d be!” Arthur remembered out loud, “Sweet and innocent.” “Well, she’s not anymore,” Polly sipped her tea. “I fucking see that and I don’t like it,” you eldest brother’s smile faded quickly. “Right,” Tommy raised his head again, “Guess we need to change our approach.” “There really no need…” you started. But he continued, ignoring you, “So you like girls, eh?” “Yep,” you confirmed meekly. “Only girls?” You nodded, “Well, one in particular.” Arthur looked at Tommy like he would have all the answers, “Now what, Tom?” You could now start to see the humour in all of it. Your brothers’ faces were an absolute picture! John could hardly contain his laughter, Tommy looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and Arthur was filled with the absolute dread at another conversation like the one you had last week. “Oh, come on!” John called out, “I’m sure we could offer some advice!” He winked at you and a smile spread across your face. “Yeah!” you said, “I mean you all like women, right? This should be even easier!” “It’s not,” Arthur muttered. “I like women,” John said to no one in particular. “What about you, Tommy?” you asked your brother sweetly. But he just rolled his eyes and continued smoking. A part of you wanted to joke about him and Alfie, but you decided against it at the last second. “Horses?” you ventured, “Tommy, any advice on this with the famous analogy of horses? “Horses don’t really…” he waved a hand, coughed and stopped talking all together. “Well, at least you don’t have to be afraid of her getting pregnant,” John said to Arthur, who was as white as a sheet now. “That’s right,” he replied in a low voice, “but that’s my entire speech out the window, because there’s no waiting ‘till bloody marriage either…” “Well,” you tried to comfort your older brother, “You did offer me some good advice the last time, Arthur. You said there was no hurry and to not do it unless I wanted to?” “Right! I did say that. That, yes, it still stands!” Arthur looked around the kitchen triumphantly. “And John,” you continued, “you said to not put anything in my mouth unless I wanted to. Sound advice that was, now more than ever!” “Fucking hell,” Arthur crumbled again, “I can’t do this again. Tom, say something.” “Women….” Tommy started off vaguely waving his cigarette around, “they want love.” “We do.” “And they always want to take things slow.” “Can you imagine?” John interrupted, “Two women together? Must take ages…” “You’d be surprised…” you started, but when you saw your other brothers’ faces, you shut your mouth quickly. Tommy glared daggers at his brother and then turned to you, “How did you become an expert all of a sudden, eh?” “Talked to Ada,” you shrugged. “You talked to Ada…” he repeated lowly and threw his head back. “Wait,” John said suddenly, “Is this why you hate wearing dresses?” “Or why you drink whiskey like a man?” Arthur added, carefully. “That’s just because she’s a Shelby,” Polly explained matter-of-factly. “Or why you never sit on chairs?” John continued, “Or hang out at the factory all the time! Or why you always talk about votes for women…” You held up a hand to stop your brother, “None of that has anything to do with me liking women, John. That’s just… me.” “So what does have to do with you liking women?” your other brother asked in his typical low voice. “Me liking women…?” “So how does it work exactly?” John furrowed his brows, “Like, without… a man there?” “John,” Arthur warned him with a grumble. “Well, both people are enjoying themselves, for starters…” you replied in earnest. “Fucking hell,” the eldest interrupted, “She’s turning into Ada, she bloody is.” “Have you never seen two women together, Arthur?” you asked innocently, “Not even in London?” “They’re all mad bastards down in London, Y/N, the things I’ve seen there…” “Well, imagine me now.” Tommy had just taken a sip of his whiskey and practically choked on the spot, “That’s fucking it. You’re not to go near the BSA again!” “Why?” you called out, “It’s not like all the women in the world are gathered at the BSA!” “I will not have you behaving,” he struggled to find the words but finally spit, “like those fucking women in London!” “Don’t worry, Tommy,” you tried to comfort him, “I’m still… we haven’t actually…” “Oh, thank God,” Arthur sank down in his chair. “Well, when you do, just be gentle, alright?” John offered some advice, “And light a candle! Women love candles.” “Candles, check,” you noted. Tommy downed his whiskey, recomposed himself and added, “And make sure they’re in the mood first…” “To get ‘happy’,” you said, “like Arthur said last time,” “Yes,” he sighed deeply.
“Cut your nails,” John said out of the blue, “Esme told me.”
Arthur turned to his brother, “What the bloody hell do nails have to do with anything?”
“Well, it’s for when you…”
But Tommy silenced you with a gesture, “Please, Y/N, don’t.”
“Right,” and the quiet returned in the small kitchen. Well, at least now they knew, so that terrifying bit was out of the way. Apart from that, you weren’t quite sure if this was going great, because your brothers seemed absolutely petrified and slightly annoyed at your sudden revelation. Maybe it would’ve been better if you hadn’t told them. Then again, marrying a ‘good gypsy boy’ was the last thing you wanted in life. So maybe you could lighten the mood just a little.
“I have a better idea,” a sudden glint came into your eyes, “How about I offer all of you some advice!” The tables had turned already and this couldn’t possibly get any more awkward.
“Nope,” Arthur stood up and promptly marched out of the kitchen, talking to himself, “I can’t. That’s my baby sister and I just fucking can’t...”
“Arthur, where are you going?” Polly called after him, mirth clearly audible in her voice. And he replied, “I’m going to find this Anna, make sure she’s from a good family…” And then he was gone.
Tommy looked from you to Polly for a few seconds before he cleared his throat and mumbled something about business. Polly smirked at you and his face was full of annoyance at it all, “I need to get back to Dangerous. The horse. Tell me some other time, eh?”
“Tommy,” you asked carefully, “Are you sure you’re not mad about me liking women?”
“Princess, I honestly don’t give a fuck who you like,” he said, while putting on his coat and hat, “I just want to meet this Anna and if she hurts you, I’ll still kill her. None of that has changed, eh?”
This was strangely comforting to you.
And just as you were about to offer some unwanted advice, he left the kitchen in a hurry and called over his shoulder, “If you have any questions, Ada apparently has all the fucking answers!”
So you turned to your aunt, “That went well, didn’t it?”
“At least the wedding’s off.”
“Thank fuck,” you smirked and Polly smiled at you encouragingly, “You don’t mind, Aunt Pol, do you?”
“I’m with Tommy,” she said returning to her stern voice, “The fact that it’s a woman won’t make me hesitate.”
“Right,” you nodded, “She makes me happy, though.”
“Good,” Aunt Polly continued to read the newspaper, “Bring her over for tea. Let’s make the boys really uncomfortable, shall we?”
Still laughing, you stood up with the intention of getting on with your homework, when you suddenly noticed John was still sitting on the chair in the back of the kitchen.
“What do you want?” you asked him bluntly.
“I’m waiting,” he said, hands upturned, “You promised me some advice, remember?”

okay but i was just mucking around and i remembered that chuuya was stuck in the book that ranpo trapped him in for over 400 days and what if, just what if, the book had managed to get into fyodor’s hands
fyodor raiding poe’s house (and i’m just speculating here i can’t remember all the details at the moment) maybe he’s searching for The Book so he manages to steal a couple books knowing poe’s power and what not
then realising chuuya is inside, maybe he heard it from somewhere or he sees him idk, and ofc he would know about chuuya, the god trapped in a mortal
and of course he knows about soukoku and how dazai left him and fyodor sees this as an opportunity to take one of the most powerful ability users (lets be real chuuya is this powerful) so he saves chuuya
chuuya is understandably confused (he probably doesn’t recognise fyodor) and is very suspicious of fyodor but fyodor is as manipulative as dazai (oh nooo) so he’ll spin some tale of how he saved chuuya and what not
and we know fyodor has brainwashing power (not sure of the extent) but let’s say instead of wiping away chuuyas memories, fyodor just twists them
he makes chuuya believe he was abandoned by port mafia (and we know how much that would hurt chuuya because the Sheep abandoned him, dazai abandoned him and now his found family?) and chuuya would refuse to believe but a mix of brainwashing and choice words gets him to believe fyodor and oh he would be so upset and heartbroken (the mafia may be scary, bloody and unkind but they were his people, people he had cared for and protected and had they always seen him as a tool?)
fyodor would take his time too. he plays the long game with chuuya, he knows he can’t treat chuuya the way dazai treats him because that will put chuuya even more on the defence so he does the opposite
he asks chuuya about his day, buys him trinkets, invites him to listen to him play cello etc. fyodor slowly gets chuuya to open up to him without chuuya even realising, and chuuya is lost with this new type of interaction but he doesn’t hate it and fyodor and him do have a lot in common so he doesn’t say anything
fyodor just subtly changing chuuyas memories and the way he feels about the mafia, tapping into chuuya’s misplaced sense of resentment and anger and chuuya thinking he has found someone he can rely on (and we know who the last person he relied on was)
chuuya and fyodor slowly taking the relationship to new levels and fyodor is practically beaming because chuuya is basically on his side now and that just makes everything better
meanwhile, poe finding out his place has been raided and he confronts ranpo and soon dazai finds out (maybe dazai was the one to tell ranpo to trap chuuya) and now no one knows where the book or chuuya is
dazai wont admit it but he regrets having done this chuuya because now chuuya is missing and anybody could have him which is dangerous (dazai wont admit that in a way he cares about chuuya who still trusted, who saved him, who believed in him)
the mafia and ada end up with another temporary truce when they find out there’s a bigger threat against yokohama (three guesses who) and imagine, just imagine, the look on dazai’s face when he sees the devil himself with chuuya,
chuuya who is very much alive and well, who is looking at fyodor with such a soft, happy look but looks at dazai with disgust and contempt and fyodor who looks so smug knowing he stole something of dazai’s right under his nose
dazai understanding what fyodor has done to chuuya but not being to do anything about it because chuuya is on the other side, corruption is on the other side, and dazai knows that fyodor intends to use chuuya and that fyodor would end chuuya if necessary and dazai’s not ready to lose chuuya not again
dazai trying to get through chuuya who is still looking at him with so much hate (chuuya thought he always looked at dazai with hate, but it was always mixed with betrayal, heartbreak and frustration and you know how these two are with emotions) and dazai slowly realising how he feels about chuuya and god what timing
tldr; just fyoya with angsty soukoku and chuuya being stuck in the middle of the battle of two geniuses

Ranpo as LawLight´s love child
(Please, don´t take this too serious, it´s only for fun (and boredom). Think about this like a kind of Au, probably a notKira!Au)
Why them?
Well, in one of the BSD´s light novels, it was stipulated that Ranpo´s parents were geniuses, both of them. His father worked solving cases with the police, and his mother was capable of beating her husband in his work. They died when Ranpo was little.
A couple of genius detectives, both of them death. Mmm, let me think for a moment. Yeah, this sounded a lot like: LAWLIGHT.
Now in the next paragraphs I will explain some points of my theory.
Tumblr media
1) Hair
Color theory 101. Black + Light Brown = could give you: Dark Brown.
Also L´s messy hair + Light´s PERFECT® hair = Ranpo´s hair, with kind of messy bangs well defined.
Tumblr media
2) Food liking
L and Ranpo share their liking for sweets.
Tumblr media
But this point doesn´t end here, because we know that Ranpo enjoys eating another kind of food like snacks (Movie) and pizza (S02EP12). Probably he likes potato chips with a little sweet flavor, and remember, what kind of chips Light prefers? Yes, BBQ potato chips. A lot of BBQ potato chips have a light sweet flavor. Whit this I´m not saying that Light has a fascination/obsession with potato chips (this is more like a headcanon from the fandom).
Tumblr media
3) Sitting
L´s famous way of sitting is a classic. Ranpo doesn´t sit like L, but he is one of the members of the ADA that sits in “so comfortable” ways, not the more ethical for work.
Tumblr media
4) Personality
From L, Ranpo got the non-filter to say what he is thinking, more with people that “annoys” them with their lack of intelligence. But of course they don´t say those things in a mean/cruel/pure evil way, both L and Ranpo have other perception of the society functions, for example Light thinks very high of his intelligence, he insults others but in his mind, because he knows more about social constructions and the "importance" of how the others see you.
Tumblr media
Now, talking about Light´s ego, Ranpo has his own. Remember, how in the first episodes Light thought about him like the chosen one and the “God of the new world”. Ranpo is always pointing how he´s the best detective and that his ability is the best of the best. As well, both of them have a lot of people always feeding their egos, like Light´s parents or Ranpo´s co-workers.
Tumblr media
5)  Deduction Support
The reason for L sitting in his particular way is because “Sitting like this increase my deduction abilities in a 40%”. Ranpo “needs” his glasses to activate his “Ultra-deduction”.
In both cases, these two have conditioned their deduction abilities to a thing or a particular action.
Tumblr media
6) Height and Eyes
Let´s be honest and let´s be realistic (kind of), not all the children look like a copy-paste of their parents, this is something that fics have taught us and is not 100% correct, genetic doesn’t work this way. Some kids can look more like their grandparents or uncles.
First, let´s talk about the height. Both L and Light are 1.79cm tall *, Ranpo´s height is 168cm. The difference is 11 cm. For his age, Ranpo (26) is a lot shorter in comparison with L and Light (19-25). Light´s father is taller than his son (1.81 cm), and we don´t know L´s parents, neither L´s or Light´s grandparents. And for the height topic, I will choose Light´s mother's family ´cause Sachiko has the average Japanese female´s height, and probably her family too. With that Ranpo´s height fits better in the family tree.
*In the official character sheet L´s height is marked as an estimation.
Tumblr media
Second, the eyes. As in the height explanation, Ranpo could have inherited his green eyes from his grandparents or from another family member/ancestor. In this case I will incline my theory with L`s family.  Tsugumi Ohba has said "I think of him (L) as a quarter Japanese, a quarter English, a quarter Russian, a quarter French or Italian, like that”, with this information, we could say that L has a high percentage of European/Caucasian heritage, green eyes included.
Tumblr media
7) Bonus: The history repeats itself
The cherry on the top in this theory is that like Light, Ranpo got himself a goth/emo-look alike-boyfriend. And as Light and L, Ranpo and Poe share similar interest. Because, don´t forget that Poe is a detective (and writer) too.
Tumblr media
Thanks for reading, sorry about my english : )

share your headcanons on dan and charlotte as parents if you’d like!
ooh thank you!
'"if you kids don't stop fighting back there, i'm turning the car around and nobody will get ice cream!" "charlotte!" "for god's sake dan, it's an empty threat"
four kids total: penny, ada, marie and isaac. and they're all geniuses one way or another. miles jokes that these two gotta stop fucking cuz they keep creating nerds. 5 year old marie is writing haikus for fuck's sake. little isaac could build you a PC if you wanted
daniel isn't a helicopter parent per se but he is Extra worried about the kiddos safety in contrast to charlotte's "let them climb trees and eat dirt" attitude. char isn't irresponsible or anything it's just that dan gets worried when the kids play with a basketball cuz they might bonk their heads but kids are made of sturdier stuff than that, hun. he's just very protective of his babies, ya know. penny II skins her knee on the concrete, cut to dan googling "how do i babyproof the planet earth" jhkfsakjhfs
dan is the one least willing to like, scold them when they do something bad, char is better at that. not implying she's a screaming nag, no way, i mean a reasonable telling off
but otherwise char is more lenient when it comes to things like. eating junk food and playing with bugs in the backyard and rough play which are all things that give dan the worried eyebrows. like "do you really think we should let them eat this much sugar?" "dan, it's a birthday party, calm down. also have you seen how much chocolate i eat? they'll be fine" "but their teeth..."
for most of their lives both daniel and charlotte didn't really think they were the parent type, both, to varying degrees, were like "oh i've never thought of myself as a dad/mum", but together it started to feel right, like something they wanna have together. a family. and turns out, daniel and charlotte are great parents. i mean, obviously i wouldn't make my beloved dan and char bad parents
char was worried she wouldn't have the patience for kids, but she handles it well, just breathe char. daniel was worried about. everything. dan ends up knowing so much about pregnancy and babies because he read like a bagillion books on the subject
side note: i consider miles a co-parent so these two got extra help. miles is a pretty good dad too with added fun uncle vibes
they never talk down to their kids or be patronizing, they talk to them almost like they're grown ups, which is good for children's development. char talked to her pregnant belly like, all the time. and totally did the "play mozart for the baby" thing. they read to the kids a lot. supply them with lotsa books. basically they did really well with their kids developing intellects and language abilities. they ain't just geniuses cuz of the dna, they're nurture smort too
the schools wanted each of the kids to do the whole skip grades, finish high school and start college early thing but dan and char said no to all that because daniel wants to avoid his children suffering the enormous pressure and stress he had of being like 14 in a college enviroment
at least one of the kids is bullied for being "weird" (aka neurodivergent) and char goes into Mama Bear mode and goes to the principal office ready to fucking handle this and then the mother of that bully is like, in a far more subtle way than im about to write: "well yeah but your kids are fucked up tho" and char is filled with untold levels of fury. daniel and miles are angery too. but they're like, basically that meme, char like "i'm gonna kick your ass. here, hold my flower" and dan and miles like "i got your flower, baby, kick their ass", thats the vibe. anyways that bitch got a black eye. do not. fuck with. charlotte. staples. lewis
these kids got the most encouraging parents ever, cuz dan and char are not gonna let their babies repress themselves in any way. i mean, within reason. but like, as you can imagine, with dan's upbringing, he leans heavy on "you can be whatever you want and do whatever you want with your life and we'll always love you" attitude. you know. the way all parents should be. but theres layers to when dan says it because of. [gestures at eloise]
"am i ever going to get to meet my grandchildren, daniel?" "mom how did you get our new number" "i have my ways"
i can't think of anything else particularly remarkable and i'd just because saying variations of they're good parents and do good parent things. they have really smart, happy and well adjusted children

Note
They end up neck deep in child eating monsters because Atsushi managed to befriend the nomes and tried to help one out, only to end up in a Bad Situation. The nomes appreciate it, though- Also as an aside I love the nomes, THEYRE so cute??? But anyways YEAH Dazai complains about everything because He Can but he’s also pretty resourceful so Atsushi puts up with it (also, it makes him laugh). (Nyanon, 1/5)
Ranpo, Dazai, and Yosano are all considers The Geniuses in their fields and they’re all smug assholes about it (though Yosano does her job without bribery or (too much) mockery), which you can’t say for Dazai and Ranpo. Chuuya being part of a cult would make sense! Maybe he was raised in it, and got out after realizing how fucked up it was??? Like, maybe it was less Overtly fucked up, but it was still Bad, you know? (Nyanon, 2/5)
And Akutagawa having been homeless makes sense- Which I guess makes this his canon story, but reversed...? Inversed? Atsushi... Hm, maybe he was also the victim of a cult, but a much more violent one- Which might also provide the opportunity for Chuuya-Atsushi friendship, with Chuuya helping him unlearn behaviors with his own experiences. Kyouka and Kenji,,, Hm, that could work- Or maybe they could be student interns or something? (Nyanon, 3/5)
Or maybe they just hang around because they have older (adoptive) family who works there- Like Atsushi or Fukuzawa. Though Fukuzawa wondering how the FUCK Kenji gets all this info is also funny, everyone thinks he’s secretly some kinda master spy but he’s just. Terrifyingly nice, really. As for my next Concept: What do you think the ADA does during quarantine? I was thinking about it, and I feel like they’d have to regulate themselves to online work. (Nyanon, 4/5)
Unless they’re Really needed in the field, of course. So I feel like there’d be a lot of the ADA finding obscure ways to not go insane? Since they’re used to moving so much. In other news, Kyouka has discovered that Atsushi can get the zoomies multiple times a day when he doesn’t have anything to do. (Nyanon, 5/5)
i just searched the nomes up and they do look cute uwuwu (hopefully im staring at the RIght Thing)
and yeah definitely chuuya realises its really bad and kinda just wooshes outta there (maybe dazai was in it as well but escaped before chuuya without telling him that hes Escaping cus he didnt want chuuya to get in trouble) BUT OHHHH atsushi being in a more violent cult makes a lot of sense!! mostly if they make child sacrifices and thats why dazai takes him in!!! cause in this au their abilities dont exist, so dazai has no reason to take atsushi in Unless atsushi was in a cult and dazai feels sympathy for him
(way later on i imagine them trying to solve a case that so happens to be about atsushis violent cult and thats when atsushi goes through several realisations like "oh yeah he Did burn my sides- wait thats not normal? oh okay")
kenji is terrifyingly nice and kyouka is terrifyingly,,,Terrifying. theyre a great match and fukuzawa COULD be kyouka's literal grandfather who had his kid way too young who then in turn had kyouka way too young- a funny cycle (*looks at my relatives*)
ADA would definitely need some people On Place. like i heard in a job here where i live they split up their workers who went to the office at different times of the week. so there was group 1. group two. group three. and each group had to wait two weeks to go to the office while the others did paperwork at home
(for funsies. imagine atsushi and dazai being put in different groups)
dazai would think he would have no problem with quarantine but i bet he would go insane the fastest, ranpo would be okay as long as he has his snacks while kunikida would be Definitely Not Okay (at least the first few weeks) cause his whole schedule would be disrupted (but i feel like he would learn to adapt over time)

Chuuya and Kunikida
Tumblr media
For characters who we have not seen interact that much in canon, Kunikida and Chuuya actually have a lot in common besides the fact that they both hate Dazai, (I kid, I kid).
What’s the similarity between an idealist striving for justice and a career crimminal for the mafia? Read more underneath the cut:
1. Inheriting Two Sides of the Conflict
Chuuya and Kunikida’s first significant interaction comes in the cannibalism arc, where both of them are the main commanding forces on opposite sides of a conflict. When the leaders of the armed detective agency and port mafia are taken out of commission at the same time, we see it is Kunikida and Chuuya who start giving orders in their place.
Both of these characters are also, primarily people you would not assume would take lead of the organization. Dazai was originally being groomed as the next boss to take over after Mori, even becoming an executive at a young age before Chuuya only to desert the mafia.
Kunikida exists in the Armed Detective Agency, which also both has Dazai, and Ranpo who are both tactical and analytical geniuses. The armed detective agency was also created specifically for Ranpo, and his relationship to Fuzukawa is similiar to Mori and Dazai’s (though far more positive, Mori and Dazai’s is almost a negative foil for the two of them). However, leadership falls to Kunikida the same way it did to Chuuya because he has something the two geniuses lack. Dazai moves pieces around on a chessboard, and Ranpo solves mysteries like a fictional detective straight out of detective novels, but first and foremost a leader must lead people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two of them also have opposite reactions to taking charge. Chuuya when presented with the situation, his reaction is to immediately go on the offensive. He attacks the hospital before even considering any other option or trying to align with the armed detective agency.
Kunikida’s first action was not to go on the offensive or defensive, it was to hesitate because he needed time to think of the best option. In a way it looks like they took opposite paths. Just like the Armed Detective Agency is the guardians of the Daytime and The Port Mafia are the guardians of the night, Chuuya acts quick and dirty in order to achieve results whereas Kunikida hesitates, and then eventually buys time to think of the ideal.
However while they look as opposite as night and die, both of them had the same motivation at heart. Chuuya tried to levy all the forces of the Port Mafia on the hospital at once to force the ADA into surrendering, thereby minimizing the casualties of the total war. Whereas, the reason Kunikida suddenly felt overwhelmed, and tried to seek a third option eventually is because he also did not want any blood to be shed. Chuuya minimizes casualties, Kunikida seeks the ideal path where the least amount of people will get hurt. The only difference is Kunikida does not consider attacking Mori the same way that Chuuya immediately jumps to attacking Fukuzawa, because while they have the same motivation at heart Kunikida is still an idealist while Chuuya is a fatalist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chuuya and Kunikida are at heart both motivated by the people around them, and wanting to protect those people. That is what makes them the ones most suited to take over leadership of both organizations. They see the human element that most of the other strategists do not. However, they both channel this deeply human urge into two different paths.
Kunikida is an idealist, he strives for a goal far above reality.
Chuuya however, makes a lot of compromises with the extremely harsh reality that life in the mafia will show you. Notice how when Fyodor describes that even knowing that they are being manipulated, people cannot stop themselves from killing each other it cuts to a panel of Chuuya knowing that they’re trapped and saying he has no choice anyway.
Chuuya is in a much less healthy environment than Kunikida, also considering that unlike Fuzukawa who has good and just intentions Mori is genuinely a bad and self serving person who uses people as tools exclusively to his benefit and their detriment. It’s a perfect way to describe Chuuya’s relationship with the mafia, paradoxically he’s presented to us as a good, loyal person who is willing to protect his comrades just like Kunikida is but because he is in the mafia he ends up killing people. He’s been manipulated for so long it’s what he’s used to, in situation where he knows he’s being manipulated, he still chooses to take the mafia and kill people in the end because it is his only home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kunikida does not bend, Chuuya compromises, but that does not necessarily mean one of them is better than the other because Chuuya willing to bend and lower himself means he can reach some people in the underworld that Kunikida never could.
Both of them are inheriting a world that is currently in an uneasy peace, but also constantly threatening to go out of balance again. The post-war system set up by Natsume-sensei did manage to bring some kind of peace, but considering the number of orphans in the streets, the slums, and murders that still happen in the city in broad daylight it’s still a heavily flawed system. Kunikida and Chuuya are set to inherit both of these flaws on opposite sides. Kunikida has spent his entire life trying to fight these flaws, whereas Chuuya has spent his life shaped by these flaws as he was practically raised by the mafia.
They’re also both people who originally belonged to a separate group, but had to go rogue because their original group failed them. The Sheep betrayed Chuuya which led him to question his abilities as a leader, which is why he settled for taking orders in the Port Mafia. Kunikida was a police man, a teacher, before joining a private detective agency to pursue justice that way. They both have strong senses of justice that require them to go radically outside the system in order to achieve what they want, for Chuuya its to be able to lead and protect the people under him, for Kunikida its to strive for his ideals.
They were both shaped by a broken conflict and eventually the responsibility will fall onto both of them to better both sides of the conflict, rather than maintaining a status queue that still creates many victims.
2. Relationship to Dazai
Kunikida is Dazai’s current partner, while Chuuya is his ex-partner and member of the famous Soukoku duo. Dazai’s relationships with both of them on the surface read similiarly. He goes out of his way to annoy both of them like it’s his only hobby.
Tumblr media
While they are partners Dazai knows both of them inside and out. There are times that rather than openly trusting them with information he will instead manipulate them to come to the conclusion that he wants them to. He can even claim to know everything about them, or be able to accurately predict all of their actions, and most of the time if the two of them agree on a strategy it will be Dazai’s strategy they are following.
Tumblr media
His behavior of annoying others, purposefully antagonizing them, treating them as enemies even when they are partners, and then trying to control them are all related behaviors for Dazai. Dazai is someone who fundamentally has trouble forming relationships with others, especially when he is required to see them as human beings. If their ability to see humanity in their comrades is their greatest quality, then Dazai’s inability is his worst quality.
Dazai’s behaviors are all ways of relating to other people without actually having to communicate or let himself be known by them. If he annoys them, and antagonizes them, pressing all their buttons is a good way to figure out all of their boundaries by watching their reactions. In a way he’s playing with them only to observe them, and Kunikida and Chuuya are both so quick tempered they fall for it every time. Another thing despite being a mafia dog, and an idealist, both Kunikida and Chuuya are incredibly true to their emotions in a way Dazai can never be, which on one level makes them easy for him to read and provoke, but on another level makes him jealous.
Tumblr media
When dealing with both of them it’s Dazai’s natural tendency to try to take control. Which is why his main method of strategy is to predict their actions. With Kunikida he more trusts Kunikida to follow through on his predictions, whereas he will try to actively manipulate Chuuya into doing what he wants. However, both of these characters are also so true to their own emotions it adds an unknown, illogical, unpredictable element to both of them which is why Dazai cannot truly bring them under his heel. They assert their humanity at every turn, forcing Dazai to deal with that. Kunikida will care for ideals which Dazai sees as meaningless, and Chuuya acts so much on instinct he will go off on his own and take paths that Dazai would avoid because they are illogical.
They both have something which Dazai lacks. They both value the loyalty that Dazai does not have, because he is not capable of making connections in the same way they are. One of Chuuya’s biggest reasons for hating Dazai leaving the mafia is that he betrayed the Port Mafia that Chuuya himself is loyalty, leaving behind all of their own comrades. He easily walked all over what was everything to Chuuya. It’s because they have these qualities they can become leaders in a way that Dazai is not. Dazai is the demon prodigy who inherited the executive position at eighteen, but you only need to look at how Dazai treated Akutagawa to tell what kind of leader Dazai was. In comparison, Chuuya while not shown to do so in the manga, in spinoff materials is often showing watching Akutagawa, nervously approaching him and trying to pick up the pieces that Dazai left behind, because he values what Dazai doesn’t.
Tumblr media
That is why no matter how much he antagonizes them, Dazai also has a deep respect and trust for both of them. Besides Odasaku, the two of them are the closest that Dazai comes to trusting other people as equals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Chuuya Longs to Become Human, Kunikida Longs to Become and Ideal
Chuuya and Kunikida are both individuals deeply invested in protecting the lives of all those around them, especially those in immediate sight like the detective agency and the mafia. For Kunikida this is his ideal, for Chuuya it’s the reason he fights.
Tumblr media
Chuuya has been since the days of the sheep, basically allowing himself to be used as a tool by organizations if it means he can protect the comrades around him, and have a place in that organization.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chuuya even joined the port mafia - after the sheep betrayed him by sacrificing himself in order to protect the sheep. It’s also the primary flaw in both characters, that they are almost selfless to a fault to a point where their own self esteem plummets. This is what makes Chuuya so interesting as a character, he is generally a good, sefless guy, just... you know, working for the Mafia. Chuuya lets himself be used by the mafia, and both shapes his image and acts like he has a code of honor, like a classic ‘noble mafioso or honor-bound yakuza’ character from fiction. In a way because their own selves are so lesser to them they are both acting out ideals. However, the way they follow ideals only leads to contradictions, for example Chuuya acts like the noble criminals that the Port Mafia make themselves out to be, the lesser of two evils, the ones who fight for the peace of the city at night, however his boss is Mori one of the most unsavory characters in the series.
Tumblr media
Despite being one of the most idealistic characters in the series, we also see Kunikida do the opposite of follow his ideals several times early in the manga. When trying to save Atsushi would be too difficult because they were also handling a high profile case at the same time, Kunikida seriously considers the risk too great to save him. Kunikida advocates against his ideal of saving everyone.
Tumblr media
He also tells Atsushi not to save Kyouka. At which point he elaborates that while he desires to save everyone, he himself already knows that there are people he just cannot save and he’s learned this through his own failures.
Tumblr media
He is also the first to advocate for turning Kyouka into the police, because while admitting she is sympathetic Kunikida also lectures Atsushi that he must become responsible for the person that he saves.
Tumblr media
If Atsushi is a reckless idealist who is driven to save everyone without really thinking of the consequences, then Kunikida is an idealist who clashes with reality over and over again. Note that Dazai saves Atsushi and Kyouka pretty easily and Kunikida is hesitant to help both of them because of the burden that the agency would carry bringing both of them on board. However, this is not because Kunikida does not care, but rather he cares too much. He sees all the possible consequences human and otherwise and fears failure which is why he is reluctant to recklessly charge ahead. It’s easy to just save people like Dazai does when you don’t care, and just pick them up like pieces on a chessboard.
Caring too much isn’t always a heroic quality, it can be a burden on itself. Chuuya and Kunikida take far too much responsibility when things go on around them, which leads them to their biggest flaw they are both far too aware of their own weaknesses. Kunikida and Chuuya struggle with the idea that they are lesser than others, less important. Chuuya himself is less than human due to being Aharabaki and having no history, or place to belong except with the people who use him. He acts loyalty to the mafia, follows the mafia’s rules and ways of living, because he thinks it gave him everything.
Chuuya’s struggle is a very personal one, and he tends to take everything personal. Dazai left him behind when he left behind the mafia, which is why Chuuya wants to settle it hand to hand with him. Chuuya has close connections to Ane-san, Akutagawa, and those close connections are the ones he fights for.
Tumblr media
Kunikida is a lot more impersonal, as he tends to see ideals over people. That is why despite how competent he can be, he has almost no personal friends, and no girlfriend. His comrades at the agency are probably his entire world at this point because they are literally the only human connections he has, even though Kunikida treats that much more like a work relationship than anything else.
Tumblr media
Kunikida is human in a way that Chuuya is not. He’s deeply emotional. He presumably has a family, and a history, whereas Chuuya was robbed of both of those things when he fused with Aharabaki. However, Kunikida also wants to escape that. To him, his human emotions, his weaknesses always run contrary to his ideals. He wants to be an emotionless machine who does not hesitate and saves everyone.
Which is why early on in his character arc we see Kunikida advise for taking the more practical routes. Not because he does not want to save those people, but because he knows that reality is going to crush him if he tries. We see exactly what happens when Kunikida fails to save a child that he does not even know, he’s capable of caring this much for complete strangers imagine how much it would affect him if his comrades were killed in front of him. Kunikida acts cold and distant because he fears his humanity will crush him, therefore he tries to suppress that humanity and strive for the ideal instead. He longs for the ideal, and strength, to be a tool that can be useful to others, even though he’s so naturally human.
Tumblr media
Chuuya is the opposite, in fact we see him almost let Dazai kill a child in front of him earlier in the manga. While this was a wrong action on Chuuya’s part, he also had his reasons for doing so.
Tumblr media
For Chuuya his own subordinates and comrades are so important, that he wants to remove Kyusaku to remove the danger from them. Chuuya also, probably does not understand Q’s full situation and therefore all he sees is a walking time bomb that put his men in danger. Chuuya’s view of the world is, if you’re not useful to your comrades then you die, it’s shaped by the Port Mafia who left Akutagawa one of their greatest assets and most loyal members to die after failing just one mission and in critical condition.
It’s not the right thing to do but it is a comrpomise. Chuuya is able to compromise and adopt a fatalistic view point with reality much easier than Kunikida. Which also, means he can become a tool in a way Kunikida never can. Chuuya himself already has an inhuman quality, and an immense power inside of him that erodes away at his ego and the human parts of him. He can even flip his brain off like a switch and become a being of pure power that is almost unstoppable. He has the power that Kunikida longs for, and also the ability to not get broken by reality because he is not as human as Kunikida is. Chuuya does not trust himself, he considers himself to be the one at fault for the Sheep’s betrayal of him, he thinks he is missing something as a person as a leader which is why he lets himself be used rather than try to act for himself.
However, the things that Chuuya values the most are not power, or even ideals, but rather his comrades underneath them. In Dead Apple he’s shown to care about those same comrades years after the fact, and is broken by the loss of them. Chuuya will always choose people over ideals, which is why he’s able to form such close personal relationships with others even on the wrong side of the law.
Chuuya’s path forward is in recognizing himself. The reason he is blind to Mori’s faults is because his self image is so low he believes he needs to follow Mori’s orders. However, Chuuya is the one set up to inherit the Port Mafia, once he realizes not only does he value his comrades but he needs to stand up against Mori if he values them, because he is the better choice to lead them, he will be able to take the Port Mafia on the path of what it is supposed to be, rather than what it acts like under Mori’s self interest.
They both live in this constant struggle trying to find their own humanity, amongst the people they fight for, and the ideals they represent as they let themselves be used as tools in the conflict. However, Chuuya is much more aware of what to Kunikida is a recent revelation. That he actually cares more about his comrades than his ideals, which is why Chuuya is the one we always see compromising and taking the more fatalist path. Kunikida does not realize how much he would break and the importance of his comrades around him in maintaining his ideals until someone else points it out to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which if Kunikida’s arc is to continue is something he will have to grapple with and be aware of. As much as he wants to be a selfless idealist and choose ideals over people, the person who Kunikida is naturally cares about people a lot more than his ideals. His ideals are a construction and a way to live his life, but what he lives for ultimately is the people around him. That does not mean his ideals are worthless however, but Kunikida needs to find a way to balance them so he can fight for people and ideals. Otherwise his constant choosing of ideals over people is something that will only distance him from the people he cares about the most.
Chuuya and Kunikida, on two sides struggling against each other, the same struggle, of human beings, of tools, of ideals, of harsh realities let’s hope both of them come out on top.

hello. anon who asked for chuuya analysis here. u can just call me Kitty because dats my nickname in school. sorry if i'm bothering you all the time but i can't help myself i love u and ur blog to bits. thank you very much for answering my ask on natsume tripartite system. hope ur doing well. a thought just crossed my mind. i was wondering how is shin soukoku gonna defeat Fyodor (that rat). so i was thinking maybe dazai takes down fyodor with his smarts and shin soukoku takes down fukichi.
G’morning! (Or afternoon, or evening.) Kitty’s a really sweet nickname!! And, no worries, asks are never a bother. Glad you enjoy my content :)
Hm, the defeat of Ratman. I really have no idea how that’s going to go down, honestly. There’s shaping up to be a pretty epic shin soukoku teamup fight against Fukuchi right now, which is great, because we’re overdue for some ADA wins!! Part of me feels that we’re going into endgame with this arc, so I’m thinking SSKK will actually defeat Fukuchi in the next few chapters. I mean, narratively, we’ve already had the third act “oh god everything has gone completely wrong” moment, and things are starting to look better.
But Ratman. Assuming everything goes to plan and SSKK kicks Fukuchi’s criminal ass, gets the page back, and resets reality, Fyodor’s still going to be in jail. There’s always the possibility that he’ll just stay there, and they’ll do something to bullshit Dazai out. But Fyodor already has a way to communicate to his allies and there’s still the other members of the Decay of Angels out there, so this kind of ending means he may come back again.
I honestly don’t think there’s going to be a straight fight between Dazoo and Fyodor. It’s not either of their styles. So, like you suggested, perhaps a battle of wits ala Ace v. Fyodor? This is more likely, I think, though I don’t know what it would look like. Ace v. Fyodor worked because there was a concrete goa and specific circumstances--for Fyodor to kill Ace, and the circumstances worked because Ace was a gambling addict.
If Ace had been any more cautious or less of a risk-taker, he would still be alive. Dazai isn’t the type to take risks that could backfire so spectacularly, and he isn’t as overconfident as Ace was. And he’s smarter than Ace. So Fyodor can’t manipulate the situation to put himself so definitively in control.
The true battle between Dazai and Fyodor, the two puppet masters, is between their subordinates. After the Fukuchi fight, assuming we really are going into endgame? That’s when the real battle of wits begins. If Dazai can out maneuver Fyodor again, like in cannibalism, he wins.
To be honest though? Part of me thinks it’ll be Ranpo who outwits Fyodor in the end. Just for a little bit of fourth-act irony, that the great Dos-kun was defeated by an ability-less detective. Because, yknow. It’s easy to forget that BSD has four geniuses (Mori being the last), because three of them are puppet masters and the last doesn’t care enough to use his brain that way.
Whatever happens, it’ll probably break my brain. Hopefully my ask answered your question or was helpful in some way!

Nine Women Who Change History…...and the Men Who Took Credit
— By David A. Tomar | TheBestSchool.Org | March 12, 2020
Did you ever get the sense that your history books are just one big boys club, filled with accomplishments by men, for men, and often to the exclusive benefit of men? Does it sometimes feel like the annals of human experience are simply a fraternity where guys are free to banter about sports and make crude noises without fear of offending the fairer sex?
And if it does feel that way, where are all the women? Did women really do nothing more than pop out babies and make pot roasts from the dawn of civilization until Cher overshadowed Sonny Bono in popularity and the whole world changed?
Of course not. It’s just that human history is littered (and I do mean littered) with greedy men who stole their very best ideas from brilliant women.
And in many cases, they didn’t just steal these ideas. They published them in journals, won prizes for them, earned millions from them, became noteworthy men of their time, and iconized in retrospect. Meanwhile, the women who’s ingenuity, insight, and intelligence they appropriated were more often than not footnoted, both in reality and through the lens of history.
But we wish to correct the record, both because education is all about that unending quest for truth and because a future in which women earn equal credit, respect, and financial compensation begins by acknowledging the sins of our past.
So with that, we spotlight women of stellar accomplishment who should be far more famous and celebrated than they are:
1. Rosalind Franklin: The Double Helix
Tumblr media
Image: Rosalind FranklinOne of the most important scientific revelations of the twentieth century has also long been a subject of disputed credit. Famously, Cambridge University scientists James D. Watson and Francis H.C. Crick are credited with uncovering the double helix formation that would catapult forward our understanding of human DNA. In fact though, British chemist and X-ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin had been engaged in the study of DNA over at Kings’s College in London in 1951 when she produced a groundbreaking image. A colleague showed this image to Watson and Crick without permission. This was the turning point in their research, though when they published their earth-shattering findings in 1953, they gave only passing reference to Franklin’s contributions. In perpetuity, it is the Cambridge pair that is associated with the double helix. So says the Nobel Prize they received in 1958, four years after Franklin died of ovarian cancer.
2. Lise Meitner: Nuclear Fission
Tumblr media
Image: Lise MeitnerAs long as we’re on the subject of scientific genius, there’s the story of Lise Meitner. It’s hard to say whether Meitner is better or worse off for having been slighted by a greedy man. Meitner was a student under the legendary physicist Max Plank, and the first German woman to hold a professorship at a German University. As the Nazis rose to power, the young Jewish scientist was forced to flee her home country. She continued to correspond with her research partner, Otto Hahn, from her new location in Scandinavia. In 1938, Hahn and Meitner joined forces to outline the concept of nuclear fission. This was the groundbreaking moment that would, in just five years, give rise to the awesome destructive capacity of the atomic bomb. Anybody looking to send angry letters to those responsible would find only Hahn’s name on the landmark paper revealing the discovery. Hahn chose to omit his partner’s name and was thus the sole recipient of the 1944 prize in chemistry from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
3. Hedy Lamarr: Radio Guidance System
Tumblr media
Hedy LamarrMeitner wasn’t the only woman working to build military might during World War II. She is joined by Austrian-born, American actress Hedy Lamarr, who in addition to becoming a star of the Silver Screen during the Golden Age of Hollywood, collaborated with composer George Antheil to create a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes. The Navy pretended it wasn’t interested in the technology, but of course it was. They stole Lamarr and Antheil’s idea, classified the patent and, by the 1960s, had begun to incorporate the technology into a host of new weapons systems. Perhaps even more importantly, Lamarr and Antheil’s work would be nothing less than the basis for the omnipresent Wi-Fi, CDMA, and Bluetooth wireless technologies.
4. Margaret Knight: Paper Bag Machine
Tumblr media
Margaret KnightNot all of history’s greatest female inventors worked in the military. Margaret Knight made her greatest contributions to production in an era where industry ruled. Often referred to as Lady Edison, Knight was a well-known inventor, mostly because she had the wherewithal to stand up for her rights. In 1868, Knight was working for the Columbia Paper Bag Company when she invented a machine that automatically folded and glued paper bags into the formation familiar to shoppers today. As Knight worked toward the completion of a metal prototype, a machinist named Charles Anan visited her plant. Unbeknownst to Knight, the random machinist filed for a patent for her invention. She only learned of his deception when she applied for her own patent. Fortunately for Knight, many witnesses were on hand as she worked through her invention. This proved more than compelling in a judgment that ultimately awarded the patent—and all future royalties—to Knight.
5. Elizabeth Magie: Monopoly
Tumblr media
Elizabeth MagieIn the 1930s, Parker Brothers introduced the game Monopoly to American families. The game made a millionaire out of an unemployed heater salesman named Charles Darrow. He became the first board-game millionaire, and a symbol of the quirky unpredictability of the American Dream. The only problem: he didn’t invent the game. Some thirty years prior, a woman named Elizabeth Magie created “The Landlord’s Game.” It’s intent was progressive in nature, designed to illustrate the evil of business monopolies. The game was prophetic, coming well in advance of the Great Depression. Ironically, it was this catastrophic era that led to Darrow’s unemployment and his subsequent fascination with a game played by some of his Quaker friends in Atlantic City. Landlord's Game imageDarrow would develop this exact variation of the Landlord’s Game into his pitch for Parker Brothers, including Atlantic City street names and places. Perversely, Darrow transformed Monopoly into a game that seems to celebrates dishonest business practices. On its way to retailing one of the most popular board games in history, Parker Brothers purchased Magie’s patent. The game’s original inventor would net a rough total of about $500 for her stroke of gaming genius.
6. Ada Lovelace: Computer Programming
Tumblr media
Ada LovelaceLord Byron’s daughter, Ada Lovelace, was one of the world’s first computer geniuses, though her role is often minimized by male historians. In 1843, the mathematically erudite Lovelace collaborated with inventor Charles Babbage at the University of London. Babbage was working on something called an Analytical Engine, an early prototype of the computer. Lovelace contributed detailed and extensive notes to Babbage’s work, particularly by articulating the way Babbage’s machine could be fed data to complete complicated math problems, or even compose complex music. These ideas may mark the earliest recorded proposition for what would eventually become computer programming and algorithms. Today, Lovelace’s contributions are obscured by debate, and most often by the dismissive and unmistakably misogynistic characterizations of her role.
7. Margaret Keane: “Big Eyes”
Tumblr media
While not technically concerned with an invention, the following one of the most egregious examples of chauvinistic greed on record. Margaret Keane is an American artist best known for her trademark “Big Eye” paintings, which were popular in the 1960s. The only problem: her fans in the ’60s were confident the paintings were done by her husband, Walter. Walter began selling his wife paintings as his own without permission in the 1950s. Eventually, Margaret discovered what Walter was up to. When she confronted him, Walter used threat, intimidation, and emotional abuse to force her silence. As the works gained in popularity, Margaret continued to toil in obscurity, while Walter enjoyed celebrity. In 1965, the two were divorced. In 1970, Margaret revealed the truth to the public. Walter denied her allegations, which ultimately led to a surreal 1986 courtroom scene in which the two were forced into a head to head paint-off. Walter claimed his sore shoulder prevented him from painting. Naturally, Margaret produced a perfect facsimile of her earlier works, earning the rightful claim to her works in perpetuity.
8. Trotula of Salerno: Women’s Health Findings
Tumblr media
Trotula of Salerno is one of the earliest victims of historiographical misogyny. An Italian doctor in the eleventh century who wrote specifically about women’s health, she has been recognized as “the world’s first gynecologist.” Her writings have remained instrumental building blocks in our knowledge about human health, and women’s health specifically. And yet, her authorship had been cast into doubt over the ensuing centuries, entirely because historians and medical professionals were skeptical that a woman could have produced works of such accuracy or importance. That’s a messed up assumption, but so ingrained was this belief that many even doubted that Trotula of Salerno existed. This convenient doubt ultimately allowed numerous male physicians over subsequent years to cut and paste their own names over her work.
9. Candace Pert: Neuroscience Findings
Tumblr media
Candace PertWhile still a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University, Candace Pert discovered the receptor that allows opiates to lock into the brain. This game-changing neuroscience revelation was so important that it led to an award—for her professor. Dr. Solomon Snyder was recognized for his student’s achievement. When Pert wrote a letter of protest to the award committee underscoring her determinant contributions, Dr. Snyder mansplained in response, “That’s how the game is played.”
Of course, men like Dr. Snyder have been playing this game for centuries. But we have an obligation to call them on it. It starts with history. But it continues in modern academia and today’s workplace. Let’s ensure all the brilliant women in our midst get their due credit. I think we’ve celebrated more than enough greedy men.

Analysis about Fyodor's ability Crime & Punishment? Any interesting though?
Tumblr media
Guys, I just said that Fyodor and Hunting Dogs have appeared too short for me to be able to make a good analysis for it :’D . But I will try, although this will be less of analysis and more of speculations.
All of the photos here are from easygoingscans, @dazaiscans, and kissanime.
Tumblr media
Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the current main villain and also Dazai’s rival in ‘my keikaku is better than your keikaku’ as Lea, bless her genius mind, has said. His Ability, Crime and Punishment, is one of the most mysterious Ability given that he only uses it two times. TWO. FREAKING. TIMES. It’s amazing how much damage he inflicts on Yokohama while only using his Ability two times. And those two times are for unimportant things.
Fyodor’s Ability, as shown in the images below, enabled him to kill with just a touch (are you Light Yagami from Death Note? But if Light needs his book you just touches them?). The touch disregard layers of clothing, as seen that the soldier got killed despite wearing protective clothing. It’s unclear whether this also affect people shielded by Ability like Akutagawa’s space tear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So far he only kills people that he touches, but it’s unclear whether he still hide other ways he can kill people. After all, he said it himself.
Tumblr media
So, it won’t surprise me at all if he suddenly show another Ability and smirks haughtily and says ‘no, when did I ever say that my Ability is to kill people. It’s you who thinks so’.
But if his Ability truly enables him to kill someone with just a mere touch, disregarding protective clothing, then he is one of the most dangerous Ability user. It’s unknown what is the needed factor for him to be able to kill someone so easily, but @blackandwhitemusician has discussed this question before. There is speculations that Fyodor’s Ability kill people who has ‘sins’ and his Ability ‘punish’ them with death. Since ‘sins’ are a very vague concept and Fyodor himself seems to have a very different moral compass than normal people, it seems that the guilt of the target of his Ability is the one who killed them. The way of dead of the target is according to the ‘sins’ the target felt, since they pointed out that in the first picture of Fyodor’s victim, his collar (which is the proof of his slavery) came off.
I kinda want to argue that the boy himself said that the collar won’t come off and it’s not that releasing the collar will kill him. Maybe it’s more because Ace and him died that the collar got loose, but again, with Fyodor I’m not 100% sure.
That theory can only be proven if Fyodor touches someone like Atsushi who has many guilt in his life (despite being innocent and none of the bad things in his life happening is from his fault). Or Dazai, who also has distorted morals. But Dazai is immune to Fyodor’s Ability. Maybe Mori?
Also, there is the question why in Dead Apple only Fyodor’s Ability is so friendly with him while other’s Ability (again, except Dazai) all went for their blood. And then there is this famous scene.
Tumblr media
Fyodor said that he is crime, while his Ability is the punishment. And that crime and punishment are good friends. If punishment won’t punish crime, then what does his Ability punish in other people? Their ‘sins’? He also said this.
Tumblr media
He said that the crime was thinking and breathing, but isn’t thinking and breathing what makes human alive? Then does he punish them for being alive at all? He said that he wants to get rid of Ability user from the world, and while maybe Ability user are not all innocent, why? Even normal people constantly do crime in BSD.
...wait, this is getting out of hand. I’m speculating his Ability, not Fyodor himself. But I think his Ability ties strongly with his mindset... argh, this is why I don’t want to analyze Fyodor too much. I should already know from experience that trying to understand people like Fyodor will only get me headache and more confused.
Let’s move on, shall we? Hmm... if he has to touch people to kill them, then people with Abilities that enables them to fight from range is fantastic. Akutagawa, Kyouka, Chuuya, Kunikida, Hirotsu, etc is perfect for the job. But if his Ability also affect them if he touches their Abilities, then everyone has to put aside their Abilities and use guns or knives instead. Now that I think about it, this method of fighting is the same if one wants to kill Dazai. And also just like Dazai, this boss of the rats also always hide and never show himself on the battlefield unless he is 100% sure he is going to win. I mean, he is playing a freaking cello when the ADA was running around like headless chicken trying to find him.

So yeah, to beat this guy you literally need Dazai. No Dazai, no dead Fyodor. While other Ability user may beat him in a fight, but he is so cunning he can beat Ranpo in mind games. (It makes me wonder why Dazai don’t just... bring Kunikida or Akutagawa with him or at least a gun when he met with Fyodor rather than just let himself being shot by a sniper. If he kills Fyodor at that moment, they will have less trouble now. But of course, what is a normal human being like me can even try to understand the mind games of geniuses like Fyodor and Dazai lol)
Although, unlike Dazai whose Ability is always active, Fyodor seems to be capable to activate it at will. When the boy was drying Fyodor’s hair with a towel, he didn’t die. So maybe someone can touch Fyodor without dying if Fyodor didn’t see the need to kill them. I mean, can you imagine going to town and every people that accidentally bump into you dying?

I think that’s all. If Fyodor somehow show us more of his Ability in the future maybe I can make analysis of it, but for now this speculations is all I can give.
