Apocalyptic squirreling
We're not, like, impaling these quotes like the proverbial shrike or anything, just hoarding them away in a nice stash. A collection of Disco Elysium tidbits about the end of the world compiled by @yekokataa and I, feel free to add!
Tumblr media
...starting with the game's earliest teaser trailer.
Tumblr media
(28 rather than 27 could be its own odd math, there's some miscounting in the text now and then just like there's the occasional typo, or it could follow the fact that the year of canon events was changed at some point. for that matter, the infamous 22 years to the nuke should be 21, like it originally followed that same 28 and wasn't edited - consistently, the variable it flags is ice.andre_hyper_rc_succ_28)
Tumblr media
(this is an example of odd math to me, for the record, as it's 365x27 to the day. It could be it's the EXACT count and also that Elysium doesn't have leap years, but I would've expected a less precise number, personally)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
:)
Ours has actual six thousand years of history: it spans from its own version of the early Bronze Age (Perikarnassian period) to the early Middle Ages (Franconigerian period), to the Renaissance (Dolorian period), right up to a decade we call “The Seventies”. It’s a world like ours, one that has evolved culturally and technologically over widely varied periods of time. No Truce With the Furies takes place in the modernity of this world.
(source)
Q: How tight is the connection between the book and the game? Is it a Witcher-like situation? KURVITZ: Things in this world are connected to each other like things in our world are connected to each other – not like things are connected to each other in Star Wars. The book and the game share themes and historical developments. The book is set in the early seventies and the game is set in the early fifties. They are connected the way two stories set in our world would be. The fault-lines developing in the fifties are more apparent in the seventies. The situation has worsened, the political climate has shifted, but there is no Skywalker saga. The main story in Elysium is history.
(source)
Tumblr media
yes yes we've all seen the nuke convo but let's put it here for completionism's sake
Tumblr media
This connection - saying 22 instead of 27, or 28 as the variable reminds us - could seem strange based on game data alone, but it neatly follows the context of the book, which shows us that the bombing of Revachol is one and the same as the material beginning of the end of the world.
Tumblr media
This one is also a fun book throwback, from apocalyptic Kurvitz self-insert to apocalyptic Kurvitz self-insert
Tumblr media
(being appreciative of that kind of future just nets you a YEEEAGH)
Tumblr media
more personally ominous than globally ominous but ominous nonetheless
Tumblr media Tumblr media
("we become vapour" being, of course, the planned title of the eventual Elysium tabletop setting rulebook. sigh.)
Tumblr media
This one's intriguing, isn't it? With an eye to Le Retour...
Tumblr media
Her echoes of the other dialogue options are similarly ominous, for the record.
Tumblr media
And we don't know if Nilsen had visions of his own (the man sounds well-acquainted with his Half Light, on behalf of the war crimes, so it's not... entirely out of the question) but we do know that his pocket calculator lap cat second-bestie very much did and could've been his source.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also a strong book callback, among other things. Remember kids: object permanence!
Tumblr media
Harry, all these quotes like this one sound like they would make sense for the actual guy who goes and blows it all up, not you personal-
Tumblr media
...ah yes. Ambrosius looms... yeah buddy it sure is solemn AND historical, I'm afraid:
Tumblr media
and of course, in closing:
Tumblr media
🥲
...for the remaining 276 pages of Elysium tidbits about the end of the world, of course, over here.

Cavill is not a martyr
I have been seeing so many posts and comments along the lines of “Henry Cavill left the Witcher because they were inaccurate to the books and he had enough of all the changes”
And this thought process, especially if you mention the recent DeMayo writer’s interview, is just a flawed thought process.
Just a quick blurb on DeMayo, as I said here his comments are probably a cry for attention from a fanbase he knows how to rile up and I would take what he says with a grain of truth salt. And Cavill has already filmed season 3 and I can assure you that a random writer he probably has already met making these comments didn’t send Cavill over the edge and have him march into the office an rage quit. Recasting and deciding on a new actor and getting out of contract is a lengthy process that has likely been going on for months. If anything it’s more likely DeMayo knew about Cavill leaving and then made his comments than the other way around.
So Henry Cavill announced he was leaving the Witcher just a few days after announcing he was returning to Superman.
In fact, he was quoted as saying this about his recent cameo as Superman in the new Black Adam movie:
"It was a very powerful moment for me. I wasn't sure how I would feel… whether it would be something very emotionally connective because I put the Man of Steel suit back on," Cavill said. "I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit. It was important for me to be standing there and enjoying that moment. That is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again."
"The character means so much to me. It's been five years now. I never gave up hope," Cavill said of the half-decade he spent waiting for news about playing Superman again. "It's amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I'm so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman."
And that 5 year mark is important. Because it is no coincidence that on September in 2018 it was reported that Cavill will no longer be playing Superman in the DCEU just days after it was announced he would be taking on the role of Geralt in The Witcher.
In fact, it was stated:
the Witcher commitment came after the Warners impasse, suggesting a change in the studio’s strategy.
Meaning he signed onto the Witcher because he stopped being Superman. So what we are seeing right now with Cavill announcing he is returning as Superman and then announcing he is leaving The Witcher is an exact reverse of the situation in 2018.
Cavill loves playing Superman and not only is it a project he is passionate about, but he also nets in a massive paycheck.
Even back in 2018 when Cavill left the role of Superman there was talk that he left because of contract disputes:
Cavill's original contract was for four movies, so a contract extension would naturally need to be arranged before Warner Bros. could move ahead with another standalone Superman movie. According to Revenge of the Fans, Cavill's team wanted to leverage a better deal out of the contract extension - including more movies, more money, and possibly even a producer role. From Warner Bros.' perspective, however, there isn't exactly a burning need to get another Superman movie made.
Then in August of 2022 reports began to come out from comi-con that Henry Cavill was looking to return to the role of Superman but wanted more money for the role.
And considering Cavill was paid a truly insane amount for 2013′s Man of Steel -- an estimated $14 million and a $20 million for 2017′s Justice League I have to wonder what wildly high amount he will be paid to return as Superman now in 2022 when he is a bigger star than ever before.
And his Witcher paycheck does not compare to that Superman money -- with him making 500k an episode in season 1 and $1 million an episode in season 2. Even if he was just making as much money as Justice League, and he is likely making much more to return, that is still well over double the amount of money to play Superman vs playing Geralt.
And at the end of the day, The Witcher is a show with very specific scheduling requirements and set locations. Blood Origin and Season 2 lost actors because of the scheduling conflicts. And that is not at all unusual for the industry.
And for set locations The Witcher is mostly filmed in Mafan Film Studio in Hungary as well as various locations around the country as well as Arborfield Film Studios in the UK and other locations there such as North Yorkshire & The Lake District. And with fewer COVID restrictions the production team is likely to want to go around Europe again for S4 and S5.
Meanwhile it’s hard to know where the new DCEU movies will be filmed but Man of Steel was filmed around Vancouver, British Columbia and Illinois in the US. Justice League was filmed around Scotland and London. Black Adam was filmed in Atlanta Georgia in the US.
All this to say filming DCEU movies and The Witcher are two very time intensive processes that require film locations that could be on opposite sides of the world. And in addition Cavill is starring in the new Highlander Reboot and in the Enola Holmes movies. Being a TV actor takes a lot of time for not as much money and acclaim. Cavill is seemingly going back to just being a film actor instead of a tv actor which considering his busy schedule makes a lot of sense.
So it’s pretty clear why he would leave The Witcher to return to Superman and his other films roles:
1) Far higher paycheck to play Superman
2) He loves both the characters but Superman is very meaningful for his career and he has stated he has always wanted to return to the role
3) Scheduling conflicts and very different filming locations and the prestige of film vs tv
Trying to spread the narrative of “Cavill is a martyr in the battle against the inaccuracies of the tv show” is based on nothing but your own confirmation bias. And it honestly says a lot about the type of person you are that you jump to find a symbol to represent the victimization of your hatred of the show.
You can dislike the show but the tinhatting and conspiracy theories I have seen flying around are quite frankly embarrassing and this is a needed reality check.
At the end of the day Henry Cavill is a high-level movie star who makes choices based on his career and what he wants to do. Your parasocial relationship with the man is entirely in your own head and I recommend trying to get out.

Prompt 22
Geralt rides into a town only to see a small family fumbling around in the street in a panic. Apparently they're a family business of fishermen who are worried that something much bigger than a fish has swam into a trap of theirs. Geralt gets a promise of money for getting rid of it and goes off to kill whatever water monster it is. But he gets to where they describe the beast and he finds... A mermaid? It's trapped and tied around in a net, facing away from Geralt, and clearly in pain, though he doesn't know why, yet. The webbed ear of the mer flicks and it turns to face him, hissing. Geralt holds his hands out in a placating gesture and sloowly walks closer, only for the mer to slam the full weight of it's tail into Geralt's legs and sweep him off his feet. Gods damn it. It can never be easy. Geralt draws his sword, and begins cutting the trap off the mer, even as it hisses, flails, and tries it's absolute damnedest to claw his face off. He ends up straddling it like it's a fucking gator, and when he frees it of it's restraints, it's only then that he can finally make out the giant wound on the mer's side. Too big and nasty a wound to just release it into the water. Oh great. It's gonna LOVE this. But it's not like he has to DO anything about it. He's a cold, emotionless witcher. He doesn't care of the mer lives or dies. If the wound is infected or kills the mer, he couldn't give less of a damn. So Geralt is currently walking up to his room at the inn, with a very angry hissing mer thrown over his shoulder, clawing the shit out of his armor. When he asks for the bath to be filled, blessedly nobody asks any further questions. The mer stops struggling as soon as it's in the bath, but it sure is still hissing at him. Geralt puts his sword away and takes off his armor and the hissing lessens. Now it's just whenever he gets too close. Big problem. He needs to get close in order to patch up it's wounds. The mer has the biggest, brightest, inhumanly blue eyes, with slitted pupils. It has sharp teeth, and twinkling iridescent blue scales dusting across the edge of it's face and it's cheeks. It stops hissing at him to listen to the bard perform downstairs. It stops attacking him, even as he pokes and prods at their wound. This is great! Except for when the bard stops and the mermaid goes back to thrashing and screaming- So Geralt is forced to hum songs under his breath to calm it. It's pupils expand and it stares at him in awe, with a slightly parted mouth. Geralt's just happy it stopped flopping around like a- w- Well... Like a fish. He fixes it all up, and shares his food, and softly hums to it the whole night, before it curls up a bit more and starts nodding off. He stops humming and steps to the inn's bed, only to be surprised when hearing a voice behind him murmur "Thank you." Oh shit-

Happy holiday seasons! Something about jaskier being the equivalent of the Beyonce of the continent (geraskier, yeraskier?) Also thoughts on Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt? Love you! <3
a continuation of 1
Yennefer is in the middle of the very important work of schmoozing her way into a baron’s good graces when Jaskier and his husband enter the ballroom.
(Geralt had irritated her the last time they’d crossed paths so she’s currently only referring to him as Jaskier’s husband to his face. He secretly loves it, but it does cause a bunch of annoying questions for him that he hates, so it’s still a net win as far as she’s concerned.)
The baron gapes. “Is that – surely it can’t be – the bard Jaskier?”
There are more excited titterings around the ballroom, everyone looking at Jaskier with the hungry gazes that she wanted them to direct towards her. Rude.
“Yennefer!” Jaskier shouts, crossing the room to her side, Geralt trailing a half step behind.
“You know him?” the baron demands incredulously.
She’s a sorceress of almost limitless power and he’s impressed because she’s crossed paths with a bard. This has to be some sort of curse.
“We were looking for you, we could use some of you help with some, um, stuff.” He darts a look back at husband then looks at her meaningfully, as if she wasn’t perfectly capable of picking up his incredibly unsubtle hint herself. Geralt just looks resigned, and a little grumpier than normal, which means he really does need help. Anything that can get a witcher – especially Geralt – looking for help can’t mean anything good.
“It’s an honor to meet you,” the baron says, shoving her to the side to grasp Jaskier’s hand and shake it eagerly. “Are you available to play? We’d love to hear you. We can pay of course, and we have accommodations for you and your companion, if you’re interested. Even just one song would be wonderful.”
They already have live music. What’s the big deal? Just because he can carry a tune doesn’t mean he warrants all this.
Jaskier is pointedly not looking at her and doing his best not to smile, which absolutely means he knows what this is doing to her and finds it hilarious. “If Lady Yennefer can be persuaded to help my companion, then I suppose I can be persuaded to play.”
The baron turns his big pleading eyes onto her, paying her more attention than he has the whole night.
She mentally denotes Jaskier to Geralt’s husband.

Now we've gotten a 3rd "Rings of Power" fan account saying they've gotten slightly different takes on the role Calam Lynch is playing that is a mix of what Fellowship of Fans, The One Ring Net, Rings of Power Updates, and the leaks on Reddit said and new information. This also includes possible major spoilers about Celeborn, Halbrand/Sauron, Galadriel, Haladriel/Saurondriel, Celebrimbor, and more as well. They also provided new information about Charlie Vickers, as well as the role Gavi Singh Cherra is really playing. We'll finally be getting official spoilers from the US media, Amazon, and the cast/crew starting next month at the May Upfronts so we'll be able to cross reference all of these and get a clearer picture to what is correct or false as we get closer to season 2 airing this fall. Personally I'm excited but I totally understand why some fans are upset, especially since this sounds like the writers are taking a storyline from the books and giving it to a different character. The link to the article is in the comments but I've summerized it behind the cut.
Firstly the fansite Redanian Intelligence posted these. They're a fansite not just for "ROP" but also "The Witcher", "Games of Thrones", and other shows. They are usually pretty accurate with what they post too. Like FOF, they are saying that Calam Lynch has been cast as Celeborn but they also are saying he's playing two roles as Sauron does indeed shapeshift into Celeborn pretending that he came back from the dead/Valinor.
They're also saying Annatar isn't in the season but Sauron playing as Celeborn is what gets him back into Eregion. He pretends that the Valar gave him warning to come back and help the elves and that they have to create more rings and gets Celebrimbor to help.
However, the Annatar/Celebrimbor thing from the books is now changed to be Celeborn and Galadriel. Sauron pretends to be her husband and that he's helping them, but really it's not. It's not clear yet if the audience knows it's him but some are suggesting we might know it's Sauron/Halbrand possibly suggesting we see Charlie shapeshift into Calam and/or there are scenes were we the audience see it's really Charlie/Halbrand/Sauron instead of Calam/Celeborn.
So this is why the Celebrimbor fans are upset today and I totally understand as that is a major book change. Also since it's likely that Celebrimbor gets killed off at the end of the season too. At the same time being a Haladriel/Saurondriel shipper it'll show that they're one of the show's main relationships.
This site also says that in season 3 Calam will only play the real Celeborn, as Galadriel and everyone finds out the truth in the season finale, while Charlie goes back to being the only Sauron actor for the rest of the series. This I hope is true as I really only want the shapeshifting limited as it really should just be Charlie.
They're also claiming the show filmed multiple endings as a cliffhanger with Galadriel and Celeborn/Sauron. One is that she finds the real Celeborn and he's badly injured and we don't know if he'll live. Another is that Sauron as Celeborn tells her the real Celeborn is dead. A third is that she finds out Celeborn is still alive and being held prisoner but has to work with Sauron if she wants him back. Possible even more endings were filmed and not sure if Charlie was on set too but it's possible as FOF did have someone say Charlie and the other Sauron actor did film scenes at the same time.
They're also saying Galadriel and Celeborn/Sauron do kiss as well. One was saying it was the ending but it's possible since she thinks her husband came back they will have more kissing scenes. Very curious about this as if that's the case we're actually getting Haladriel/Saurondriel kissing scenes which I wanted but never thought would happen. LOL But now also wondering if we'll see the camera show us that it's Sauron/Halbrand kissing her too since again it's really them kissing.
This also would explain the chemistry tests too with Morfydd and Calam as he not only has to do one to be her husband but since he's playing another version of Sauron/Halbrand too so it has to match how it is between Morfydd and Charlie, who had a chemistry test in season 1. So we can say the show is doing a full fledged love triangle with them.
Then about Gavi, this site is saying the new race character he plays is a Stoor, the other Hobbit ancestor besides the Harfoots, and will have scenes with Nori and The Stranger. FOF and others confirmed that he was playing a new Tolkien race we hadn't seen yet.

Love the idea that by the end of Jaskier's first winter at Kaer Morhen, he's successfully roped all the wolves into his ongoing feud with his artistic rival. Every one of them is ready to help fuck with Valdo Marx at any opportunity. And Jask knows that because common perception says that "witchers are humourless bastards", these very tall, very intimidating, very straight-faced swordwielding types can get away with shit that would net him a retaliation

Due to the rarity of mermaid sightings, they are frequently dismissed as nonexistent. Hence, when Geralt encountered Jaskier, he presumed that the bard was a partial elf. Unbeknownst to Geralt, Jaskier harbored a hidden truth—he was actually a half-mermaid, capable of transitioning between a merman and a human form.
Following Geralt's outburst on the mountain, Jaskier found himself overcome with heartbreak, leading him to make a life-altering decision. He chose to forsake his existence as a human bard and return to the embrace of the sea.
Initially, Jaskier relished the exhilaration of swimming freely in the sea, unburdened by the concerns of the world. He reveled in the joy of singing and gliding through the water. However, one fateful day, Jaskier's carefree existence took an unexpected turn when he found himself ensnared in a net. Unbeknownst to him, he had inadvertently strayed into the path of a pirate ship. Determined to escape, Jaskier attempted to revert to his human form, hoping to deceive the pirates into releasing him. To his dismay, he discovered that the pirates had already witnessed his transformation, leaving him exposed as a merman.
Due to the exceptional rarity of mermaids, particularly male ones, sailors widely regarded them as incredibly fortunate creatures. Consequently, upon discovering Jaskier's true nature, the captain of the ship recognized the potential for extraordinary luck and made the decision to retain Jaskier on board permanently, considering him a harbinger of good fortune
In order to prevent Jaskier from escaping, the pirates secured a chain around his ankle, fastening the other end to the ship's deck. This restricted Jaskier's movement, allowing him only a limited range to walk. Although not intentionally cruel, the pirates regarded Jaskier as a peculiar creature and treated him with a mixture of curiosity and detachment, akin to how one might treat a pet.
Jaskier resided on the ship for several months, enduring his captivity until one fateful night when the pirates made the ill-fated decision to launch an attack on another vessel. Unbeknownst to them, this particular ship carried a certain Witcher and his daughter. In a twist of fate, Geralt and Jaskier found themselves reunited once again amidst the chaos and turmoil of the pirate encounter.
Geralt wasted no time in liberating Jaskier from the clutches of the pirates, but the bard suffered an injury during their daring escape. Initially, an air of awkwardness enveloped Geralt and Jaskier as they found themselves reunited once more. Geralt couldn't help but feel a tinge of annoyance at having to save Jaskier yet again. However, aboard the ship they now shared, it was the captain who first discerned Jaskier's true nature, unraveling the secret of his half-mermaid lineage. This revelation came as a surprise to Geralt, who hadn't been aware of Jaskier's hidden heritage until that moment.
Despite Jaskier's initial intention to retreat to the water, wishing to avoid Geralt's potential blame for the world's troubles, his injury from the pirate escape rendered him too weak to shift back to his mermaid form. Consequently, Jaskier found himself trapped in his human guise aboard the ship, alongside Geralt and Ciri, who were en route to Skellige. With the journey projected to last for at least a couple more weeks, Jaskier remained stranded, unable to return to the sea and resigned to the company of Geralt and Ciri during their voyage.
Throughout the voyage, Jaskier and Ciri developed a remarkable camaraderie, with the young princess captivated by the presence of a real-life mermaid. Jaskier delighted in fulfilling Ciri's curiosity, regaling her with enchanting tales and melodious songs from the depths of the sea. However, as the journey neared its conclusion, a growing sense of concern enveloped Geralt. Throughout the entire voyage, he had wrestled with finding the right words to apologize to Jaskier, fully aware that if the bard were to return to the sea, their paths would likely never cross again.
One fateful night, an opportunity arose for Geralt and Jaskier to have a much-needed conversation. Geralt mustered the courage to inquire why Jaskier had never revealed his true identity as a mermaid. In response, Jaskier posed a poignant question of his own, questioning whether Geralt would have truly listened had he disclosed his secret. Geralt, acknowledging his shortcomings, candidly admitted that he had not been a good friend to Jaskier. The two delved into a heartfelt discussion, recounting the instances when Jaskier had earnestly tried to forge a strong friendship, only to have Geralt dismiss their bond at every opportunity. Geralt opened up, confessing that his fear of losing Jaskier had compelled him to push the bard away, even though he genuinely cherished their connection.
Geralt, filled with remorse, sincerely apologized for his outburst on the mountain, expressing regret for the hurtful words he had directed at Jaskier. In turn, Jaskier humbly apologized for the occasions when he had unintentionally gotten into trouble, requiring Geralt's rescue. As their heartfelt conversation drew to a close, Jaskier, now healed from his injury, mustered the courage to ask Geralt if he would like to witness his true form. Geralt, acknowledging the significance of the moment, agreed with a nod, and together they ventured into the water, ready to embrace the unveiling of Jaskier's mermaid self.
Witnessing Jaskier's transformation into a mermaid proved to be one of the most awe-inspiring moments in Geralt's lifetime. From the waist up, Jaskier retained his familiar appearance, albeit with a few additional gills now adorning his neck. However, below the waist, Jaskier's legs seamlessly merged into a resplendent iridescent tail, a mesmerizing fusion of breathtaking hues. Vibrant blues and greens danced with subtle hints of silver and purple, while the scales shimmered and reflected the light, creating a captivating spectacle. To Geralt, Jaskier was nothing short of exquisite in his mermaid form, a sight of undeniable beauty.
The pair lingered in the water for a while, indulging in the bliss of the moment. Jaskier relished the freedom to swim around, playfully splashing Geralt every now and then. Geralt, observing the bard's joy, couldn't help but be delighted by his companion's happiness. Eventually, Jaskier posed an intriguing question, asking Geralt if he believed in the notion that mermaids were inherently lucky, as the pirates had believed. Geralt expressed his appreciation for having met Jaskier, acknowledging the serendipity of their encounter. However, he found it difficult to fathom an entire species being intrinsically lucky. Curious, Jaskier offered an enlightening perspective, explaining that while mermaids themselves may not possess inherent luck, they possessed the extraordinary ability to bestow luck upon others through a single kiss.
Geralt and Jaskier's kiss was a profound and passionate moment, enveloped in the depths of their emotions. As they drew apart, their eyes locked in a shared revelation. Both Geralt and Jaskier confessed their deep love for one another, acknowledging the undeniable connection they had discovered. In a heartfelt plea, Geralt asked Jaskier to join him and Ciri on their travels once again. Overjoyed, Jaskier wholeheartedly agreed, eager to embark on new adventures together.
Returning to the ship, Geralt and Jaskier found solace in each other's embrace. Their passion and desire entwined, they surrendered to the intimate bond they shared. In the aftermath of their lovemaking, Geralt, with Jaskier nestled close beside him, couldn't resist asking about the mermaid's ability to bestow luck through a kiss.
