dazai after oda's death wandering around yokohama, a mess becuz someone so precious to him died, unable to understand the very human feelings he's feeling, perhaps feeling something so strongly for someone for the first time (at least whilst being aware that he is)

its night time now and he's crumpled up in some alley way not knowing what to do or how to process anything when someone calls out to him

he ignores it

they come near him

he reaches for his gun, angry at being approached by who ever the fuck-

"are you okay?" the voice asks, and dazai's so caught off guard even tho he shouldnt be - there r only two ppl after all - ppl who dont care and ppl who ask if ur okay to pretend that they do

oda was always an exception

he thinks he says fine and that should be the end of it and it is becuz the voice leaves and dazai tries to go back to breathing

except it comes back a while later with the familiar rustle of plastic bags and suddenly someone's in front of him, not touching, but close enough dazai cant ignore him, his hand tightens on his gun

"you look like you havent eaten" and in front of him, in a plastic bag, riceballs, water, and napkins

he stares

"you're well dressed" the voice says "so you probably have somewhere to go to" he doesnt "but you look hurt, covered in blood. if it was one of my students i would want someone to help them"

when dazai looks up the person in front of him doesn't look older than him

he's got long blond hair tied up, glasses, dressed in a black button up, a tan coat, and a stern look on his face

"i dont" dazai says even though he doesnt know why he's telling this strange man anything - but its true he has no where to go (chuuya's? but something stopped him before he could; ango's? that... if ango had been here... maybe oda wouldn't have-)

"dont what" dazai doesn't reply but the man seems to understand - his face falters for a second

"youngins these days, they never plan out anything. why would you spend money on expensive looking clothes and not rent out a place? my first priority was an apartment! i bought non necessary clothes after" the man scolds gesturing to his coat, dazai wants to reach for his gun again "whatever, you can stay with me for the night - i have a spare couch! this is a one time thing though! you better rent out a hotel room tomorrow!"

dazai stares at him in surprise, at his offer, his contradictory tone, voice, and words or simply the fact that someone can show such... kindness - dazai isnt sure

he doesn't remember agreeing - but he must have

must have agreed and followed the man back to his apartment, must have cleaned up the blood (odaodaoda) in his bathroom, must have eaten his food, drank his water and fallen asleep on his couch because thats where he is in the morning

its still dark out when dazai wakes up in an unfamiliar place and remembers the man

he has a feeling that the man will scold him for not immediately finding a place but let him stay for longer, but he cant stand to be here any longer

he needs to leave

go far far away from oda, the mafia, this man who showed him kindness for no reason as if oda was still here watching, making sure - he needs to go

there's only a brief hesitation when he sees the man's coat, so familiar to the one oda wears, hanging by the door, easy to grab and leave

he doesn't feel guilt when he takes it with him

he thinks of the man a few times here and there in the two years he spends wandering, waiting

he meets him again eventually, walking into the ada office with a fake backstory - he's there with the person he was told was the boss

when he looks over his eyes linger on the coat, a touch of something but not recognition

obviously, one of his favorite ways to spend time with you is to smoke. he loves the way you look when you're puffing on a joint. he thinks it's so cute the way your eyes get red and lidded, and you're laughing at everything and anything.

he's not one to really leave his house all that much. expect most activities to be done at his house. but, if you're not at his house, he likes to spend his time outdoors. going on hikes, to the park, anywhere where he can be in nature is ideal to him.

when you do spend time together, eren can be clingy. he'll be cuddling you like his life depends on it while you read a book or watch tv. he always has a hand snaked around your thigh or his arm around your shoulders.

B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?

absolutely everything!!! you're perfect to eren!

he really admires your personality. you're like his other half. there's so much about your charm and charisma that he's drawn to

your smile melts his heart every time. he loves seeing you happy and enjoying yourself!

your eyes are also his weakness. if you stare at him for too long he feels himself getting all shy and flustered. he's still not used to how beautiful you are.

C omfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?

he would do anything in his power to make you feel better. even if it means running to the store at 3am with slippers and pjs on, he'll do it.

expect him to be a little oblivious on how to make you feel better though.

since he isn't always too sure how to make you feel better, he assumes that smoking will help. the second you tell him you're having a bad day he'd start rolling a joint for the both of you to share.

D reams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?

eren is the dedicated type. if he is in a relationship, he takes it very seriously. he probably decided that he wanted to marry you before you two even started dating.

he wants a nice, cozy house for the both of you. he would prefer you not to work, simply because he wants to provide for you.

and what about kids? well, that would be up to you, and what you prefer. he wouldn't mind having kids or not having kids. as long as you're with him he's happy.

E qual - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?

dominant. he likes to take charge with anything and everything. date night? he wants to choose the place and what you're doing there. night in at home? he wants to choose the movie to put on. expect eren to be dominant, regardless of the situation.

of course, he gives you the freedom to choose if that's what you want, but prepare for him to make a lot of... suggestions. suggestions that he really wants you to follow.

F ight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?

eren is the type to hold a grudge. however, when he sees you looking at him- begging, pleading with him, he has a hard time being angry. he forgives you easily (a little too easily) but is more stern with others.

he seems like the type to let him emotions out like a flood. it doesn't take that much to set eren off, so he ends up telling you how he feels very often, whether it be good or bad.

when there's a bad fight, he needs some time away to smoke and think. he'll never let you leave upset, but there are times where he needs a moment to decompress and calm down, so he doesn't say or do anything he regrets.

G ratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

eren is extremely grateful. he makes a silent note of every amount of affection that you show him, every laugh you grace him with. everything and anything you do makes him feel thankful you're there.

he's aware of what you do for him, and will tell you he loves you and appreciates you at random times during the day. he'll give you gifts out of the blue, just because he thinks you'd like it or it reminded him of you. he writes letters for you and draws funny pictures for you. he wants you to know he doesn't take you for granted.

H onesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?

eren talks a LOT so even if he did try to keep a secret from you it would eventually come out. he is as open and honest as he can be, and expects the same from you. he believes that open communication is the only way to work together.

I nspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?

most likely both you and eren changed each other for the better. eren's tenacity and grit helped you gain more confidence. your love helped eren have a soft heart. he learned to not take things as seriously with you and to enjoy and appreciate what's around him.

J ealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?

absolutely the jealous type. gets very jealous very easily as well

you're talking to a guy for too long? he's jealous. someone is flirting with you? he's extremely jealous, borderline furious at the person trying to flirt with you.

the best way to help eren is to give him lots of cuddles and kisses. he just needs the reminder that you're his and you aren't going to leave him.

K iss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?

lazy sloppy kisser. his kisses are heavy and passionate, full of love. his lips are super warm too.

your first kiss with eren was probably very casual. you were smoking with eren in his car, when the subject of romance came up. you mentioned that your kissing could use some work, when he simply said, "wanna practice with me?"

has sloppy make out sessions while you two hotbox in his car. he'll be gently biting your lip, climbing on top of you while he runs his hands all along your body, feeling every inch of your skin. he gets very affectionate when he gets high.

L ove Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?

would probably confess his love the second you two do anything remotely romantic together. you place your head on his shoulder? he's thinking about confessing.

he would just wing his confession. he wouldn't have a script planned or "ideas" on what he could say. he simply lets his feelings out the best way he can.

he fears rejection so there's a good chance he may be a little distant once he confesses, even if you reciprocate his feelings. it's nothing to take personally, he's just so caught up in the idea of losing you it makes him shut down.

M arriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?

eren 1000000% wants to get married. he wants to take it slow, however, and ease into marriage.

wants all his friends and family to be at your guys' wedding. he thinks marriage is something worth celebrating, especially with everyone important in his life

probably will end up crying at the wedding too but that's ok <3 he just loves you so much

N icknames - What do they call their s/o?

darling, baby, angel. anything endearing and romantic, eren will probably call you it at some point. he loves nicknames. but darling, baby, and angel are the main nicknames he has for you.

always wants you to call him by a nickname. his favorite nickname for him is 'ren. his heart melts every time you call him that.

O n Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?

when eren was crushing on you, it was painfully obvious. he tried his best to hide it but his feelings are so strong, it's hard to contain himself.

eren expresses himself very vocally, but, before you started dating, he was rather shy. he was hesitant to talk about certain subjects, especially if they involved romance of any sort. you would notice that he would clam up if you started talking about dating, or asked him if he was interested in anybody.

before you two started dating, eren's feelings would come out in bursts, since he had a hard time containing it. he would surprise you with gifts or compliment you on your outfit, making it painfully obvious that he fancied you.

you figured it out pretty early on, but decided to keep it to yourself just in case you were wrong. you were happily surprised when he finally confessed his love to you, since you assumed he would never actually confess.

P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

eren is upfront about your relationship, but he isn't one for alot of PDA. he might give you a kiss or two, but he's rather withdrawn when it comes to being affectionate around others.

he won't hesistate to make it known that you're in a relationship, however. if he notices that someone has been eyeing you, then he doesn't care about being grabby. he'll put his head on your shoulder or give your thighs a quick squeeze if it means that someone will stop giving you unwanted attention.

Q uirk - Some random ability they have that's beneficial in a relationship.

eren has an undying determination which can be helpful in achieving your goals. expect eren to try and try and try again to make you happy, he won't ever give up if it means you're content.

he also has the ability to push you to do things you never thought you'd be able to do. he never forces you to do anything, just reminds you that you're a lot more capable than you think you are.

R omance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?

eren is very romantic. for him, showing physical affection is the best way to express his love. he always wants to be holding you or giving you small kisses. eren just wants you to know that he loves you, the best way he can.

eren seems like the type to be romantic in very cliché ways. he'll put on a romantic movie or write you a gushy letter if he's feeling sappy.

one of the more romantic things he does is have "smoke sessions" with you. you two will cuddle in his car for hours, blowing smoke into each others mouths while you kiss.

S upport - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?

eren is super supportive. expect him to go out of his way to help you achieve your goals. that's just how he is. he will do anything in his power to see you thrive.

eren believes in you and your capabilities, that's why he's with you in the first place. he trusts you to do what's best for yourself.

T hrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

eren prefers to be very spontaneous. he usually does things based on how he feels about them. if he's bored, or high, he wants to explore everything around him. he might randomly wander off while you two are walking if something catches his interest.

eren will go out with you at unpredictable times. you might go on a date at 6 am or 10 pm, depending on how he's feeling at the time.

U nderstanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

eren knows you very well. he can read you, knowing when you're upset or delighted based off your body language alone. he also knows what does and doesn't set you off, and is always mindful of not pushing your buttons.

he makes sure that he has your favorites written down somewhere so that he can always refer back to it. he doesn't really need the list (he's pretty much memorized everything that you like and dislike) but he has it just in case there's something new he needs to add.

eren can get caught up in his own emotions, to the point where he doesn't realize your emotions might differ from his. he has to remind himself to be more empathetic, but he still shows empathy.

V alue - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?

eren values your relationship with him more than anything else. there's nothing more that he wants than to have you with him, loving and experiencing life with him.

even in your worst fights, eren won't let you leave angry. he always tries to resolve it with you as soon as possible, he hates fighting with you. he just wants you by his side all the time, through thick and thin.

W ild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon.

eren's hair is everything. he wants you to play with his hair while you two cuddle, pouting until you run your hands through his hair.

his hair also tells alot about how he's feeling. when he's more serious and intimate, he tends to tie his hair up. when he's laid back and casual, he has it down. either way he has his hair, he looks absolutely adorable and always wants his hair played with.

gets super affectionate when he's high. in a daze, he wraps his arms around you and holds you for what seems like hours, simply wanting the moment between you two to last forever.

X OXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?

in private, eren loves to show you just how much you mean to him. he's kissing you while walking by, asking you to come cuddle with him, or playfully grabs your hips to pull you closer to him. the best way he can show his affection is through physical contact, so expect his hands to be all over you constantly.

Y earning - How will they cope when they're missing their partner?

eren needs to be around you in some sort of way. if he's not with you physically, there's lots of texting. he has a hard time being without you, so to distract himself, he texts you. he might just send you a random picture or an invitation to play 8ball, but just knowing you're spending your time with him is all that matters to him.

also, he will randomly facetime you if he gets bored/misses you. sometimes it's just a call that lasts a few minutes, him ranting about some asshole in line at the store, or him just wanting to hear your voice. other times, calls will last hours, the two of you peacefully doing your own thing while occasionally having a conversation.

Z eal - Are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

eren would literally burn the world to see you smile. he'll go to great lengths just to see you happy. there's nothing that will stop eren from ensuring your happiness. he knows that you can't be happy all the time, but ultimately, there's nothing more that eren wants than to see your smile.

would literally fight anyone to make you happy. you tell him constantly that he doesn't need to fight anyone - him getting arrested wouldn't make you happy. but every time there's someone being a jerk to you, he'll turn to you and ask "babe, you need me to fight him for you?" to which you have to politely decline.

Holding George’s hand was one of Matty’s favourite things. A throwback to the past, a symbol of a shift in dynamic. A small thing that solidified that what he had with George was something else, something special. Something that Matty had done one day and never really stopped craving since. Something that used to make George blush so prettily, head tilted away from Matty in a futile attempt to hide it as his hand was gripped tighter, walking side by side.

He’d always found excuses to touch George’s hands, when he was sleeping facing Matty and they were right there, resting just in front of his own face. The innocent linking of pinkies while George was still fast asleep. Lingering too long when George passed him a lighter. Picking his rips for him only to have him whining about soft hands the next day.

Matty fiddled with the rings on George’s fingers while his head rested heavily against his shoulder. He had one hand around George’s wrist, feeling his pulse keeping time with the heartbeat against his ear, the other twisting and turning the metal jewellery around and around. Watching it sporadically glisten when it caught the dim light from the television.

His head felt empty in the best kind of way, serene in a sense where the notion of calmness wasn’t instantly morphed into a painful version of boredom. A rare occasion where he was able to just be. Be close to George without any thoughts interrupting them. George watched the telly as Matty watched George’s hand in his own.

They were both in a good place, really.

“You with me?” George murmured, snapping Matty out of his daydream while pressing a firm kiss to the top of his head. Keeping his lips there as he waited for an answer.

“Yes.” Matty breathed, surprised to find his voice coming out a little croaky, wondering how long he’d been quiet for.

“Can I have my hand back?”

“No-” Matty snorted, mock-offended, lifting his head off of George’s shoulder while tightening the grip on his hand. “Be glad I didn’t take your dominant one.”

“Here-” George took the ring off his pinky and placed it on Matty’s index finger, something about the gesture made Matty’s heart stumble clumsily in his chest. “Now you have your own fidget toy.”

“Not as fun as when it’s on you.” He quipped back, instead of addressing the thoughts suddenly provoked to the front of his mind.

In reality, the role reversal had Matty’s breath catching in his throat. The sight of George’s hand engulfing his own slight wrist, the ring that fit snugly around George’s pinky slotting perfectly onto that finger. He wondered briefly if George realised. If it was intentional. Matty felt claimed in the least possessive of ways, claimed without restrictions. He wanted to be claimed by George.

The quiet returned, his hand still in both of George’s. A ring on his index finger and a dramatic voice at the back of his head that never wanted George to let go. A quiet voice belonging to the part of his subconscious that wanted George to file away the ring measurement. An estimate in his own possession. For future reference.

But then George kissed Matty’s palm and his eyes started watering.

“Would you marry me?” Matty said, quietly. Like he almost didn’t want George to hear him. Ready to let it go if asked to repeat it.

“Is that you asking?” George murmured, his breath tickling the skin of Matty’s hand, sending shivers up his arm that spread throughout his body, melting him from the inside out.

He’d heard George’s voice everyday without fail for the past twenty years and yet it still caught him off-guard sometimes. How deep it was, how he could feel the bass of it resonating within his own chest. How it soothed him. How it was so distinctly George.

“No,” Matty pondered, not like this. He closed his eyes as George leaned forward to place a gentle kiss on his cheek, leaving his skin tingling. “But would you?”

“I’ve agreed to weirder things you’ve proposed.”

“Be serious!” 

“Sorry, sorry-” George was giggling, having brought their joined hands beneath his own chin, pressed close against the warm skin of his throat. He could feel George swallowing. “Of course I would, you knew that, surely.”

I often say I'm allergic to fluff but it's not because I dislike happy endings or even wish fulfilment. It's just that stories that are comforting to me are those which acknowledge that things sucks sometimes, and then go onto argue that still there is so much more to life. That love and hope and joy exist side by side with the suffering and can and do triumph against it, even if in small but meaningful ways.

In contrast, stories set in a magical happy land made up of rainbows and unicorns are...a mix of alienating to downright disingenious. Far from offering escapism, they make me feel as if they have no room in them for me — that this happy happy make believe land would crumble if I brought my sorrow around, and you see, i can hardly leave it at home. I don't think we gain anything by pinning our happiness and joy on an outright denial of pain.

one thing that i keep waffling back and forth on (because im still thinking about writing out the Symptoms Of A Merfolk Crush (Merfolk Has Crush On You) and its relevant) is the topic of merfolk social grooming, mostly in the form of licking each other

primarily this is because theyre. you know. marine animals. grooming is important to them yes but licking isnt really how its done and wouldnt do as much as it does on land - usually it would occur in the past more of removing sufficiently large enough objects with the hands or mouth and anything smaller usually getting taken care of by rubbing themselves on the sea floor or using found items to rub against, and primarily to dislodge parasites. and ofc nowadays they have the domestic cleaner wrasse colonies that handle it best of all.

theres not really... a reason that licking each other would help in removing anything from their bodies that wouldnt be handled otherwise. but also i really like them licking each other and an impulse to lick the other as a bonding thing is something that's stuck in my head and i cant get it out, so im figuring out other reasons that merfolk would do it

and primarily i think it just has to do with smell/taste again. both senses in merfolk are greatly heightened and sharp, and they already have an urge to try and make those theyre close to smell like themselves. they produce a slime layer over their skin that specially dries on land and helps seal in moisture, so usually when theyre doing that this is what is getting involved, as a vector for other scent-marking and communication proteins and All That. it might also tend to boost the health of merfolk that get marked in this way? as in, if their own slime layer isnt being produced as well or theyre already ill, the protective qualities from a healthy individual's slime layer can be shared with them and give them a little boost, but maybe theres also more complex underlying mechanisms, im not sure

which would also make merfolk licking more of a social grooming thing again, but licking as a contact exercise would also help to spread their own slime layer on the other merfolk, with the additional benefit of this also working on land (and maybe being something more basal to the group than i had been imagining), thus making them smell a little more like the groom-er.

but also because merfolk smell/taste is so important, merfolk also have this... sort of mental pressure to bond by examining and exploring other merfolk's bodies? which sounds weird when i say it like that, but its more comparable to wanting to play with someone you likes hair, or touch their legs and their arms, and otherwise just feel them and enjoying the experience of learning this sensory information about them. and because smell/taste is such a huge aspect of merfolk, this also includes putting other merfolk in their mouth, basically.

which is basically just an extension of playbiting in the first place? merfolk are very mouthy creatures and interact with a lot of their environment using their mouths, basically being a third hand for them. and they like to play with each other and bond with each other and cuddle with each other, so they also have a lot of different types of bites that say different things and have different emotional connotations. they have flirty bites, they have play bites, they have being an annoying pest for fun bites, they have "look at me" bites, they have "i just wanna chew on you without hurting you" bites, they have "i am bored and seeking sensory information" bites, they have "i want you carnally" bites, and they have all the aggressive and threatening bites you can imagine. they have a lot of bites and types of bites and ways of biting each other, its a whole thing.

so broadly i think licking each other would just kinda be an extension of that. a sort of calmer non-bite where they want to groom each other and make them smell like each other but also where theyre just genuinely examining each other and tasting each other as a more platonic attempt to learn about each other. and i feel happy enough with that, that works with me.

I'm very open about the fact that atlantis is my favourite stargate, however I absolutely adore how unapologetically cuddly sg1 is. tired while imprisoned by aliens? cuddles. trapped on a glacier? cuddles. crying because one of your team/family members is missing? big squishy hug. your buddy Daniel is on a really bad withdrawal from the goa'uld sarcophagus? cuddles. it's been a long mission and you're just glad to be home? you guessed it - cuddles. it makes me squee everytime because they don't even hesitate, they just kinda melt into each other's arms. and it's not just the "love interests" either (although Carter and o'neill's pining does give me life) Daniel and teal'c often join the cuddle piles if they're there. and I'm sure once he's more comfortable with the team Jonas will join the cuddle piles (or maybe he already has and im not pulling up any examples, I've barely finished season 6 so please no spoilers)
