Who is this sassy lost child?
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#lan wangji#a-yuan#A-Yuan knows how to to utilise his big wet eyes to get treats. What a little legend.#The crowd comments about LWJ being 'daddy' and WWX being 'the mother' are a little too 'fan-service bait' for me.#So I am personally reimagining it as another layer of 'misinterpretation of a more complex situation' commentary.#I like how the different styles of interacting with children WWX an LWJ exhibit say so much about their own childhoods.#We - human beings in the real world - take two lessons from how we were parented: What we valued and what we wish we had.#LWJ leaning into indulgence is him pushing back against his own childhood of asceticism. It's something he didn't have - so he gives it.#WWX on the other hand has been *so* defined by his drive to indulge. And here he is the restrictor!#It takes a bit more to see what's going on here. The factors are not singular.#but to keep it in theme with LWJ; I'd propose it is partly his way of establishing structure when he did not have it as a child.#Both approches are a way of saying 'I didn't have this and I wish I did.'#With LWJ it's pretty obvious why...but WWX? What is at your core? What is your regret towards a lack of restriction?#Or...What benefit do you think it gives this child to learn the harsh lessons of going without?#Did it make you strong when you were a child? Do you think it is just the nature of the world and we all must learn it?#How we interact with children is such a fascinating topic to delve into our psychology and neuroses.#In a more light hearted turn of topic:#WWX confirmed to be 'person taking the car to the drive through to order one black coffee for himself' on the triangle spectrum.#LWJ is saying 'we have food at home' as he is opening his wallet ready to order for everyone.#(Technically this is comic 213 but yippee! We are in the 200's now! Thank you all so much for reading and cheering me on!)

Saying Sorry Will Never Be Enough
Feeling a bit angsty so I had this idea.
Danny is dating one of the Bats/Birds, and everything is going great, amazing even! They know each other secrets (from powers to everything etc), they have a wonderful place to live (even if its in Gotham), Danny is in college on the way to becoming a space engineer (and he does side jobs for unrestful ghosts), he's actually getting sleep again since leaving Amity Park, gets along with their friends and family (those who Danny or his partner still talk to, up to the writer), there is even talk about marriage and perhaps adoption/kids in the future between Danny and the Bat/Bird he's dating!
Everything is setting up for a good life in his future, something Danny didn't think could have after his accident. He was happy finally, and currently packing up his old apartment because he's moving in with his partner in a few days.
So he felt like his core was being pulled out of him when he opens his apartment door one day receiving a knock to find his parents, who had hadn't seen since they kicked him out of the house after coming clean about being Phantom (their words of anger and denial that their son was 'dead' and now a monster, still hurt)
Sure they didn't attack him or proclaim he's dead but still their last words and anger HURT.
Danny didn't give them a chance to open their mouths, both looking nervous and guilty, before he slams the door close and turns invisible, grabs his phone, and fly's out of his apartment to his partner's place in a panic attack.
His partner, isn't happy.

I think
Didn't Jack's reasoning develop Daddy Issus in him ??
You mean his extreme perfectionism? It contributes to it, yeah. Kind of a chicken and egg scenario tbh, hard to say which came first. Did Jack's fear of disappointing his father predate his perfectionism, and ultimately lay the foundation of its existence? Or was he born believing he always needs to be more than he is, and that impostor syndrome ended up creeping into his thoughts and feelings regarding his father? Who can say? He's not doing himself any favors regardless. In this situation, Jack is his own worst enemy. His feelings of inadequacy are like a perpetual motion machine. Always devising and "fulfilling" its own prophecies
Tumblr media
If they would just sit down and talk to each other man-to-man, it would make a big difference. But Burning Spice hasn't been any good at talking to people in a long time (no matter how much better he's gotten as a person, there are just some things you lose that you'll never get back. Not after living a life like that), and Jack, well-intentioned little martyr that he is, never likes to talk about his problems. He buries them deep and focuses on doing right by others instead, all the time and forever. It's not healthy. It would hit a lot closer to home if his father sat him down, looked him in the face and told him he doesn't always need to put himself last, and he doesn't need to be afraid of not being good enough, because he is. He always has been.
#and i specify that Burning Spice needs to be the one to impart that wisdom to Pepper Jack over everyone else - including his mother...#...because of his past as the Herald of Change/History. Once upon a time BS wasn't so different. didn't think or behave all that differentl#feeling as though he always had to carry the weight of the world all the time. lest he let everyone down and be a failure.#Jack has it easier because he at least gets to be a normal person when he wants. BS was thrust into his role immediately. with no choice#so he understands that feeling. that pressure to perform. feeling like the world is watching you. expecting things from you. that was him.#it still is. but things are different now. He chose to accept the responsibility of co-ruling the GCK with his wife#he chooses to be a better leader to the Wild Spices than he was before. it wasn't dumped on his lap like being the Herald was.#he doesn't want his son to feel like he did then. he doesn't deserve to feel so much pressure. especially not as a child#the last thing BS ever wants is for his kids to end up like him. giving in to hatred and despair. he'd do anything to prevent that#if Jack would just open up about his feelings then Spice would try to help. reassure him that he loves him and is proud of him.#that he doesn't have to push himself so hard all the time. that he should be kinder to himself.#Jack has nothing to prove that he hasn't already proven just by being himself#cookie run kingdom#burning spice cookie#pepper jack cookie#burningcheese#goldenspice

*sigh* thoughts on Nintendo's botw/totk timeline shenanigans and tomfoolery?
tbh. my maybe-unpopular opinion is that the timeline is only important when a game's place on the timeline seriously informs the way their narrative progresses. the problem is that before botw we almost NEVER got games where it didn't matter. it matters for skyward sword because it's the beginning, and it matters for tp/ww/alttp (and their respective sequels) because the choices the hero of time makes explicitly inform the narrative of those games in one way or another. it matters which timeline we're in for those games because these cycles we're seeing are close enough to oot's cycle that they're still feeling the effects of his choices. botw, however, takes place at minimum 10 thousand years after oot, so its place on the timeline actually functionally means nothing. botw is completely divorced from the hero of time & his story, so what he does is a nonissue in the context of botw link and zelda's story. thus, which timeline botw happens in is a nonissue. honestly I kind of liked the idea that it happened in all of them. i think there's a cool idea of inevitability that can be played with there. but the point is that the timeline exists to enhance and fill in the lore of games that need it, and botw/totk don't really need it because the devs finally realized they could make a game without the hero of time in it.
#i really do have a love-hate relationship with this timeline#because it's FASCINATING lore. genuinely. and i think it carries over the themes of certain games REALLY well#but i also think it's indicative of a trend in loz's writing that has REALLY annoyed me for a long time#which is this intense need to cling to oot#and on a certain level i get it. that was your most successful game probably ever. and it was an AMAZING game.#and i think there's definitely some corporate profit maximization tied up in this too--oot was an insane commercial success therefore you'r#not allowed to make new games we need you to just remake oot forever and ever#and that really annoys me because it makes certain games feel disjointed at best and barely-coherent at worst.#i think the best zelda games on the market are the ones where the devs were allowed to really push what they were working with#oot. majora. botw. hell i'd even put minish cap in there#these are games that don't quite follow what was the standard zelda gameplay at their time of release. they were experimental in some way#whether that be with graphics or puzzle mechanics or open-world or the gameplay premise in its entirety. there's something NEW there#and because the devs of those games were given that level of freedom the gameplay really enforces the narrative. everything feels complete#and designed to work together. as opposed to gameplay that feels disjointed or fights against story beats. you know??#so I think that the willingness to allow botw and totk to exist independently from the timeline is good at the very least from a developmen#standpoint because it implies a willingness to. stop making shitty oot remakes and let developers do something interesting.#and yes i do very much fear that the next 20 years of zelda will be shitty BOTW remakes now#in which botw link appears and undergoes the most insane character assassination youve ever seen in your life#but im trying to be optimistic here. if botw/totk can exist outside the timeline then we may no longer be stuck in the remake death loop#and i'm taking eow as a good sign (so far) that we're out of the death loop!! because that game looks NOTHING like botw or oot.#fingers crossed!!#anyway sorry for the game dev rant but tldr timeline good except when it's bad#asks#zelda analysis

Some immediate thoughts based on the Silverborn Blurb:
— The “seeing more of Hawthorne’s dragonriding world” thing is less because someone is killed in a tournament like one of the snippets made me guess and more like, if the killer is on the back of a dragon they have to investigate dragons and dragonriders.
— Is the peach dress because of the wedding? Is Morrigan in the wedding party? Is it someone she knows, someone Jupiter (or someone else) knows, or was she invited because she’s a Wundersmith?
— Third random thought is that the wedding is for someone in the family of the 920 member that will “kind of have a semi-important-ish role to play”. Or perhaps they are just the person that invites Morrigan to the Silver District.
—— I might be totally wrong because I have literally no clue what that one Q&A answer could mean and am excited to find out. It seems like the book might start with The Black Parade, which could be a way for 919 and 920 Unit members to meet.
— I wonder if the “before the clock strikes midnight” bit just signifies the rush to save the day, or something more…?
I can’t wait for Silverborn to come out and we can discover which crazy theories were on the right track and which were way off base, lol.

just a thought but is there ever a time where the arcade wouldn't open for some reason? like, Moon was sick or they were renovating the place or they just took a holiday off?
*Read in Sun’s most ostentatious salesman voice*: “Superstar Arcade and Playplace! A coin-operated neon wonderland for kids of all ages to escape to! Open 12 to 9 PM on weekdays and 11 to 11 on weekends. Ehem. Closed Tuesdays and most holidays.”
Besides their normal days off, I imagine they occasionally have had to close due to illness, weather, or other unforeseen circumstances. But it takes a very good reason for Sun to close unexpectedly. The guy loves working himself to death ☠️. Will power through colds and has a tendency to skip meals if the arcade is busy. Vacations are something that he hears other people do sometimes.
It became pretty obvious during the first Spring after the arcade’s opening that running the place during the busy Summer season with only two people wasn’t gonna cut it. It still took a lot for Moon to convince Sun that hiring a third was a necessity (enter y/n). The big thing that swayed him was Moon pointing out that Sun would have more time to do fun activities with the younger kids in the playplace if they had someone else to watch things on the arcade floor.

What about Mugman and Smith as a ship? :)
Tumblr media
They're friends, though :) in a "i'll beat your ass if you look at me wrong" sorta way.
Smitty is very comfortable and forward with his sexuality, but romance is hard for him to define and feel comfortable with.
This comes off as Smith being afraid of commitment, but Smith will devote himself to anything and everything if he believes in it enough (and I think deep down, under all that sour attitude, he'd like a big family one day!!), so the assumption that Smith does not want to be "tied down" is incorrect.

Just thinking about Spock's obvious annoyance and jealousy upon finding Kirk kissing Helen in "The Dagger of the Mind"—which only happens as a result of Helen and Dr. Adams implanting false memories and feelings in Kirk's mind. And Spock actually knows all about the mindfuck machine at that point, and saving Kirk from it/Adams is why he's there in the first place, and his look of annoyed judgment happens after Helen says, "This isn't right! Dr. Adams did this to you!"
The episode ends with a visibly shaken Kirk returning to the bridge, talking about how he can actually believe in death from loneliness, and staring blankly into the distance with McCoy right behind him. Then Kirk looks at Spock (who is physically further away) and smiles, visibly brightening after Spock smiles faintly back.
I'm also thinking about how upset Kirk is by Spock's spore-addled interest in Leila in "This Side of Paradise," and even more by Spock's disinterest in him. Leila herself will eventually admit that she knows Spock would never enter into a relationship with her except via the sex pollen/docility spores, and previous to all this, she said Spock would be given no choice in all this. Spore-influenced Spock also begs Kirk to join them ("It's a true Eden, Jim. There's belonging and love [...] you'll come around sooner or later. Join us. Please"), and Kirk instead hatches a plan to force him out of the effects of the spores.
Afterwards, Spock bleakly tells Leila, "I have a responsibility to this ship, to that man on the bridge. I am what I am, Leila, and if there are self-made purgatories, then we all have to live in them." He admits to Kirk that falling under the artificial tranquillity of the spores is the closest thing to happiness he's ever experienced.
Kirk is more outwardly cheerful, expressive, and easy-going than Spock, occasionally admitting that he's lonely, but not much more, apart from the implications of how he explains romantic love in "Metamorphosis" ("Is he important to you, more important than anything? Is he as though he were a part of you? [...] By your feeling for him, you are condemning him to an existence he will find unbearable. [...] You may keep him here forever, but you will always be separate, apart from him"). It's only when he gets literal amnesia that he can admit that he's pretty sure he's never experienced happiness before.
The seething jealousy even in obvious dub-con circumstances and quiet, restrained unhappiness pervading their lives just feels like—well, so much. There are so many other cases, too, like when McCoy jokes about Spock falling for a computer (not an android, a literal computer) and Kirk gets visibly upset and jealous until Spock tells him in front of everyone that Kirk is irreplaceable, obviously. Spock spends an entire episode miserably jealous of an actual android love interest of Kirk's, and after McCoy tells him he fundamentally can't understand the agonies and triumphs of love Kirk experienced with the android, Spock waits for McCoy to leave then deletes his rival from Kirk's mind while he sleeps.
They aren't well, but they sure are something!
#also thinking about how kirk spends almost the entirety of tos entirely aware that spock is ashamed of his feelings for him#and this remains such a constant obvious thread that kirk simply never acknowledges. except implicitly in the metamorphosis speech#he gets upset when someone/something else seems like they might be more important to spock but almost never expects spock#to actually express this in any open way without repression or shame. they both just cling to what they have and carry on.#but i feel like 'kirk spends tos /knowing/ spock is ashamed of their relationship and never holds it against him' is overlooked tbh#and the way that kirk quietly gets him and does no more than low-key affectionate teasing about it that spock enjoys playing along with#where mccoy is constantly pushing spock to perform his feelings - often about kirk - in a way that spock resists and resents#well.#sure tos is episodic and not going to explicitly acknowledge other episodes but spock's conflicted angst is such a persistent note!#and there are these repeated references to kirk being privately lonely and unhappy! it's not a one-off thing. and carrying that weight#of knowing that the person closest to you in the universe (tos kirk's own words!) is /ashamed/ of it feels such a queer experience#anywayyyyy#anghraine babbles#star trek: the original series#star peace#anghraine's meta#otp: the premise#james t kirk#c: who do i have to be#c: i object to intellect without discipline#long post#cw dubcon
