The type of music I think some doctors and master might listen to
Saxon: pop breakup songs and upbeat songs that have angsty lyrics, imagine him playing bad blood by Taylor Swift or good 4 u by Olivia Rodrigo or good luck babe
8 and 12: a lot of the music doesn't have lyrics, just violins, stuff you'd read or fall asleep to
Roberts: dad rock or guys with deep voices that don't actually scream or anything: theory of a deadman, Hinder, citizen soldier. And then religious imagery songs like from Eden and Francesca
13: yearning lesbian songs, like Reinaeiry covers, and some Miski in relation to the master
15: club music like Ke$ha
10: just music you'd sob too and the music you'd dance too like going from I bet on losing dogs to don't stop me now
11: Christmas songs
3 and Delgado: the classics
Ainley: angry and sad music, if he knew about Adele it would all be over "water under the bridge" "rolling in the deep" burn fron Hamilton, you'll be back
7: yearning gay songs
9: what if his music taste was really happy? That'd be funny
Missy: bad bitch music and Mary Poppins

Three Days Grace – One-X
My original review of Three Days Grace’s sophomore album, 2006’s One-X, talked about the “circle of life,” and how you’ll get into something, but forget about it after awhile, only to discover it again later on down the line. Sometimes you end up really loving it again, or the first time, because it hits you a different way, regardless of how many years later. I originally listened to that album around 2013 / 2014, somewhere around there, because my friend Jake was a big fan of the band. We had just met on a Blood On The Dance Floor hate page that I managed at the time on Facebook, but I introduced him to Fall Out Boy (at least indirectly, anyway; I posted about them all the time on there, but he messaged me one day to tell me that he picked up a copy of 2007’s Infinity On High, and the rest was history), so it was only fair for him to introduce me to his favorite band. I remember really liking that album at the time, but I wasn’t familiar with 00s hard-rock. I was always relatively bored with that era of hard-rock, because it all sounded the same. I’ve since gotten into some of it, especially recently, and yeah, a lot of it does sound the same, but it’s not as bad as I remember. I’ve already talked about a few albums, and they’ve been pretty solid, but I wanted to go back to One-X. This was the first album in the 00s hard-rock scene that I listened to, and I’ve been wanting to hear it again for a long time, just to see if I could enjoy it more now than I did back then. I’ve gone back to it a few times over the years, but it hasn’t quite stuck with me, so I’ve been wanting to give it another listen, just to see if maybe the record finally sticks.
I’ve been giving it a handful of listens throughout the last couple of weeks, and I would say that I enjoy this album quite a lot, even after all of these years. Now that I’m a decade older from when I first heard it, I’ve gotten into a lot of other kinds of music, so I’ve been able to expand my tastes a lot more. There are a lot of things to appreciate about this record, especially almost 20 years later. Vocalist Adam Gontier (who left the band for a long time, and is back in the band, but as a second vocalist, so I don’t know how that works, but that’s cool, I suppose) is the star of this record. Unlike Daughtry’s self-titled debut from the same year, Gontier doesn’t totally carry the record. A lot of bands in this vein have great vocalists that carry the album, because the instrumentation isn’t all that great, but the rhythm section is great, too. There are some great riffs, hooks, and melodies that run through this song. Even the album opener, “It’s All Over,” is an utterly killer tune. It’s got one hell of a hook, but there are a lot of other songs I really like here, such as “Pain,” “Animal I Have Become,” “Riot,” and even the slower “Never Too Late,” which is a ballad-ish song, but it works well. It gives Gontier the chance to show his vocal prowess, and he is the best part of this album, hands down. That’s not to say the rest of the band isn’t good, because they are, but I would be lying if I said that Gontier wasn’t the best part here. I think most fans can admit that, too, because he is one of the best vocalists of this scene (especially in that era). I’ll admit that this record isn’t super unique, musically speaking, but it’s a case of a record being really and emotionally hard-hitting.
Gontier’s voice is what steals the show, despite the instrumentation still being top notch, but his lyrics are really what do it. This album was written at a time when Gontier was in rehab for opioids, so a lot of this record deals with overcoming pain and suffering, and making an effort to say that it gets better and it’s never too late to turn your life around. You can really hear the emotion in what he’s saying, and it’s a potent record for its lyrics alone. Anyone that’s going through a hard time can probably relate to this album, as well as get something out of it, because it’s got a lot of hopeful and inspirational messages behind it. This is one of those albums were the vocals and the lyrics are the most important part of it, but the hooks and instrumentation are just as good. The vocalist doesn’t completely carry this album, which can be an issue for a lot of stuff in this vein. That was my biggest problem with Daughtry’s debut album; despite it being good, and Chris Daughtry being a great vocalist, the lyrics were unremarkable and the overall sound was pretty bland. I had more fun with Nickelback’s For All The Right Reasons, but that record is still good, just not great. This record, however, has some great vocals and lyrics, but the instrumentation is also solid as well, so there are some worthwhile moments in that regard. I don’t know if this one of my all time favorite albums now, but it’s an album I like quite a bit. This album isn’t nostalgic for me in the same way that it would be for someone who was a kid when this came out, so I can see why someone would love this thing. As a 00s hard-rock record, this is something I’d totally recommend as an essential album of that scene and era. It’s a ton of fun, despite its darker themes, but it works so well.

I should be writing but I'm curious:
I've been thinking about Can Con music a lot lately (for the past 2-3 years) and have been going back to listen to more of the bands that I used to love from the radio. I used to spend a lot of time in the car by myself so a lot of this music kept me company and I'm wondering who else knows and loves it! I'd be curious to know where folks are from if they're comfortable sharing, and also pls reblog for wide reach!
Also my favourite does not mean best or even the ones I'm most likely to listen to now! These are just the ones that stick out the most to me from my teen years.

Sam Winchester x Reader
Just angst, no death. Based on the song by Theory of a Deadman. I had a draft written out for years now. This is my first ever posted fanfic here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“You ever wish you were dead like me, Sam?”
The words stung at her throat as they left her lips. Her eyes were blurred from the tears that forced their way to the surface. Sam stood there with an unreadable expression; eyes bored into hers. She hoped he understood what she was trying to say, hoped that he would say it first. But when his eyes left hers and a tear fell down his cheek, she whispered,
“It’s over.”
Sam’s head whipped up to look at the ceiling, struggling to hold in his sobs, desperately trying not to beg her to stay. His eyes avoided her at all costs. His mind raced about what went so wrong.
“I know,” he said.
He had noticed the tension, the silent resentment that would wash over him as they laid in bed together. It was hot and hostile and burned his skin for so many nights; she was like gasoline. The desperation and denial had lingered for far too long. Every time they thought it could last, that they could endure or enjoy their time together, the moment would fade as quickly as it came.
She walked past him without another word and up the bunker stairs, only returning with the single duffle bag she had moved in with. She looked at him one last time. It was clear. The love that had lasted for so many years was gone.
And she left. The gasoline that would threaten to ignite him was gone, and it hurt to breathe without her. Each time he thought he could move on, those words would play out over and over in his head,
You ever wish you were dead like me?
He does now.

so i use last.fm to track my listening because i like the live numbers and sometimes it tracks different from apple
anyways- few weeks back i got my “wrapped” or whatever they call their recap of the year. absolutely cackled at some of my stats:
top 3% of global (last.fm) listeners for rain (to no one’s surprise- i’m so abnormal about that song. looking to pump those numbers this year)
and i was the top 25 listener (all year on last.fm) of sleep token’s cover of is it really you? like. not just percentage, literally only 24 other people listened to that song more than me last year?? feels insane
i was also the top 50 listener of the album the truth is… by theory of a deadman 😂 gotta rep my homeland somehow!
#ramble on exie#last.fm#idk i take all these stats with a grain of salt#but i think they are very funny to consider#i didn’t think i listened to is it really you? all that much#i am setting records with rain (for me) already this year. listened to it 9 times in a day last week.#<- big numbers for someone who normally hates repeating songs#sleep token#theory of a deadman

Guitarspear playlist because the last ship playlist was well received
The Last of The Real Ones (Fallout Boy)
You are the sun
And I am just the planets spinning around you
You were too good to be true, gold plated
But what's inside you? But what's inside you?
I know this whole damn city thinks it needs you
But not as much as I do, as much as I do
Church (Fallout Boy)
If you were church I'd get on my knees
Confess my love, I'd know where to be
My sanctuary, you're holy to me
If you were church I'd get on my kness
I'd get on my knees, I'd get on my knees
Heaven's Gate (Fallout Boy)
One look from you and I'm on that faded love
Out of my body and flying above
If there were anymore left of me I'd give it to you
And I'll tell you that I am fine
But I'm a missile that's guided to you
Go out in the world to start over again and again
As many times as you can
And in the end if I don't make it on the list
Would you sneak me a wristband?
Would you give me a boost over heaven's gates?
Heaven Sent (Hinder)
Never saw the chemistry
That was there with you and me
It's been a long time coming
Just waiting on an angel to take me out of my hell
I'm falling for you, you came out of nowhere
Straight out the blue when heaven sent you
Take Me to Church (Hozier)
Take me to church,
I worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
If I'm a pagan of the good times
My lover's the sunlight
Keep the God on my side, he demands a sacrifice
Drain the whole sea, get something shiny
Francesca (Hozier)
My life was a storm, how could I fear any hurricane?
If someone asked me at the end,
I'd tell them put me back in, I would do it again
If I could hold you for a minute
I'd go through it again
I would still be surprised I could find you
I could find you in any life
If I could hold you for a minute
They're Only Human (Death Note)
They're only human, they don't see
Who they are is who they'll always be
Only human after all
So they push and they shove
With this thing they call love til they fall
Isn't it a farce? Isn't it a waste?
Struggling to face what can never be faced
Fan Behavior (Isaac Dunbar)
I guess I got myself a fan
It's fan behavior, you're a fan
As a result of my cold demeanor
You're pressed, a little bit obsessed
I take you for a fan, you take me as I am
I wonder what's going through your head
I know that you're a mess but secretly impressed
No Forgiveness (Shinki, Red Rob)
Sinners seeking validation,
You're the one who fell to temptation
Now we're caught up in altercations
Purge them all there's no salvation
Fall from grace, been led astray
Lost little lamb, you'll die today
When you fall the price you pay
Is no forgiveness when you pray
You wanna change your team and climb?
I'd much rather hear your screams and cries
Dreaming of seeing those pearly gates
Well, your nightmare arrives today
I'm the man that started it all
The only one who'll heed the call
To stir up sinners in the pot
Don't you know you had your shot?
You wanna get up to heaven?
This is no seven eleven
Think you can change well baby that's sad
Be Somebody (Thousand Foot Krutch)
I'm just a speck inside your head
I remember where it all began so clearly
I feel a million miles away,
Still you connect me in your way
And you created me
Something I would've never seen
When I could only see the floor
You made my window a door
So when they say they don't believe
I hope that they see you and me
After all the lights go down
I'm just the words, you are the sound
A strange type of chemistry
You've become a part of me
Without You (My Darkest Days)
If I had my way, I'd spend every day
Right by your side
And if I could stop time believe me I'd try
For you and I
And each moment you're gone
Is a moment too long in my life
So stay right here by my side right now
Because without you I'm a disaster
Thought you should know
And you're my ever after
Angel (Theory of a Deadman)
I'm in love with an angel, heaven forbid
Make me a believer with the touch of his skin
I'd go to hell and back
With you still lost in what we found
Worlds apart we were the same
Until we hit the ground
Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm weak
Maybe I'm blinded by what I see
You wanted a soldier, it wasn't me
Angel With a Shotgun (The Cab)
Get out your guns, battles begun
Are you a saint or a sinner?
If love's a fight then I shall die
With my heart on a trigger
They say before you start a war
You better know what you're fighting for
Well baby you are all that I adore
If love is what you need, a soldier I will be
Worship you (Kane Brown)
Don't get me wrong, I'm a god fearing christian man
But if you were a religion then damn
I don't know what I'd do
Yeah, I might have to worship you
I might have to sing your praise
I might have to go to church yeah
Every single night and day
Love religious metaphors songs

Theory Of A Deadman – Gasoline
A lot of great albums turn twenty this year, and it’s crazy to think that 2005 was twenty years ago by now, but that’s how time works, but I haven’t realized how good that year was. I’ve always made jokes about people that wish it was 2005 again, but you know what? I don’t know if I’m getting more cynical as I’m getting older, but I kind of understand where they’re coming from these days. Not that music is getting worse, or that no good music comes out today, but there are some truly great albums that came out twenty years ago. Albums like Fall Out Boy’s From Under The Cork Tree, The All-American Rejects’ Move Along, Lifehouse’s S/T, Switchfoot’s Nothing Is Sound, and many more turn the big twenty this year, but it doesn’t feel like it sometimes. It doesn’t feel like that was twenty years ago, but for every album that turns twenty that are really good, there are some that haven’t aged extremely well. That’s a consequence of the early 00s – when something’s good, it’s really good, but as with most eras of music, if an album is dated in any way, it’s usually not going to end well, or at least stand the test of time. I’ve mainly wanted to talk about albums that have aged pretty well and that I really enjoy, but I’ve been diving into other albums from the same era that I haven’t heard, and there are some albums that I don’t care for as much. I wanted to talk about the “bad,” just as much as the good, but I wouldn’t even say the album I’m going to talk about today is bad.
The album that I wanted to discuss today is the sophomore album from Theory Of A Deadman, entitled Gasoline. Released in 2005, I’ve never listened to this band before, but as I discussed in my review / retrospective of Daughtry’s 2006 self-titled debut, I wasn’t into the butt-rock and dad-rock of the time. I wasn’t listening to these bands, and I didn’t listen to them until the early 2010s. Theory Of A Deadman has always escaped me, however, and maybe that’s for good reason. I’ve never heard good things about them, especially their newer material, but I’ve been curious about their early stuff. I’ve been listening to a lot of early 00s hard-rock, such as Three Days Grace, Nickelback, and Daughtry, just to name a few. I randomly found a copy of Gasoline at a local game store for a good price, so I thought I’d pick it up and see if this album has held up, as well as being a good first impression for this band. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s neither, but at the same time, there’s something here that I kind of like, although I don’t think this album has held up incredibly well. It’s held up okay, but it’s got some glaring flaws that make this album dated as all hell. If there is one thing that makes this album stick out a bit, it’s that Theory Of A Deadman has a southern-rock bent to their brand of hard-rock, and sometimes it works really well. There are a few songs here with this southern groove that I really like, even if everything else is just okay or pretty bad.
That’s the thing about this record – the music itself is actually pretty solid a lot of the time, despite being generic as all hell, but it’s the vocals and lyrics that don’t do much for me. Their vocalist isn’t half bad, but he’s kind of the Wish version of Chad Kroeger (which is funny, because they were signed to Kroeger’s label, as well as him co-writing a majority of their debut album). They’re quite similar, and it’s uncanny, because they’re both Canadian, have gruff voices, they both have butt-rock / hard-rock bands, and their lyrics are either pretty decent or absolutely awful. It’s hardly ever in between, but the thing that makes Nickelback work better is that their lyrics are usually dumb fun. When they’re bad, they’re more fun and meme-worthy, but the lyrics on Gasoline are pretty painful sometimes. Every song on here is a breakup song, too, which is super weird, but they all basically say the same thing – “my ex sucks.” “No Surprise,” however, takes the cake for the genuinely terrible lyric of “It’s no surprise that that bitch is leavin’ me,” and the song is about how it’s not a shock to the narrator that his girlfriend is awful. That song kind of sucks, but the instrumentation is okay, at the very least. There are some other songs that I kind of like, such as the minute-long “Hell Ain’t Just The Same,” or the acoustic “Santa Monica,” but the lyrics aren’t good. They’re not horrible on most of this album, but they’re so forgettable, it kind of hurts a bit. Maybe the album will stick more with time, as I’ve only heard it a few times already, but I wanted to talk about an album from this era that hasn’t super well. A lot of the albums I’ve talked about have, or they’re at least pretty good all these years later, but this one’s just kind of “okay.”
