[ID: A digital colored sketch of the Mallow Family of cats being held up by the archival staff in front of a pink background. Only the arms of the archival staff are visible. From upper left to bottom right, Turing is an older gray kitten with thumbs and large yellow eyes being held by Sasha, who has light brown skin, freckles, and is wearing an orange sweater and a bracelet with large, pale yellow balls. Turing is staring at the viewer and his arms are out in front of him and slightly spread to the sides. Duke Archibald is an older white kitten with brown on his toes, the tips of his ears and tail, and on his face shaped like a mustache and small angry eyebrows. His eyes are drawn as small dots. He is being held by Jon, who has brown skin and is wearing a green long-sleeved dress shirt. Most of Duke Archie's body is visible as he dangles from Jon's hands, and he hangs mostly limp. Ms. Marsha Mallow is a large white cat with brown on her toes, the bottoms of her paws, and on the tip of her nose, and she has small brown dot eyebrows, copper eyes, and pink toe beans. Martin, who has pale skin, freckles, and is wearing a blue sweater, is holding her up as she rests one paw on his wrist and the other is touching Lil Baby Fudge's cheek as she looks at him. Lil Baby Fudge is a chubby, older brown kitten with lighter brown toe beans and small dots for eyes. He has one hind foot held up slightly, and his arms are out to his sides. He looks content as his cheek is squished by Ms. Mallow, and he is being held up by Tim, who has light brown skin, arm hair, and a watch with purple hands. The kittens all have their ears pointed out to the sides, while Ms. Mallow's are pointed mostly forward. end ID]

In 2005, VeggieTales released their parody of "Lord of the Rings" titled "Lord of the Beans". Randolf is trying to guide the young Toto Baggypants who has come in posession of a magic bean and protect him from the unnatural Sporks. The production ran into issues when New Line Cinema tried to place a cease and desist on it. The release had rich animation and was the first of the the new 52 minute format. Keeping with the theme, the silly song featured an "Elfish (like Elvis) Impersonator". ("Lord of the Beans", VeggieTales, Video)

ARTWORK
Laura Jones
Sliding doors, 2024
Tim Winton, 2024
Sulman Prize 2024, Archibald Prize 2024. Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Self-portraiture allows me to capture moments of vulnerability and wonder in everyday settings. Sliding doors was painted at the start of a new relationship. I adopted the pose of Pierre Bonnard's wife, Marthe, in his 1932 work The bathroom. The mirror reflected the bedroom of my apartment. This equalised the image plane, allowing me to capture a familiar place - and body - from a different perspective. The small picture of domestic life collides with the big picture of the sublime.
In 2016, Laura Jones undertook an artist residency to study the bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef, leading to her exhibition Bleached. Afterwards, she met acclaimed author and conservationist Tim Winton at an environmental advocacy event.
‘I was amazed by the humility of this great novelist, who has enchanted generations of Australian readers,’ says Jones, a four-time Archibald finalist who is also in this year’s Sulman Prize.
‘Last year, I watched his ABC documentary, Ningaloo Nyinggulu, about the fight to save Ningaloo Reef. It was beautiful and terrifying. In a speech, Tim said the lack of action on climate change hasn’t been challenged enough in the arts. I was stunned to discover a portrait of Tim had never been a finalist in the Archibald Prize. Then I found out why – he was a reluctant subject,’ says Jones.
‘When I flew to Perth for a sitting, the Great Barrier Reef was suffering its fifth mass bleaching event in eight years. Tim was warm and witty. We spoke about the historical relationship between printmaking and political activism. I approached his portrait as if it was a monotype, using thin brushstrokes and letting the paint bleed across the canvas like ink into paper. Dreamy yet direct.’
What I connect with…
I love the colours and gestural strokes in Laura Jones’s work. Her Sulman entry captivated me as soon as I entered the space. The Archibald entry not so much, but both did show up the others around them. So beautiful and light and fresh.

I’ve just finished Rob Roy (1995) and have some thoughts about Cunningham’s introduction
I know this is unoriginal but he has such a multitude of characteristics packed into a very short space of time, most of them contradictory with a running theme of ruthlessness being concealed under affectations and a veneer of politeness, very much a metaphor for the gentry in general.
At first he’s a “likely lad”, something paternal and patronising and he does indeed fit the idea of an empty-headed little trinket in his pale clothing. But then he has the fever in his blood, never properly explained but you can see the distaste in his face when he’s laughed at. He made the joke, and yet he dislikes the result.
He’s a man drawn by violence, he couches it in polite, simpering words, but he’s itching for a fight. He lures Guthrie in by insulting his weapon of choice, and when in return he’s insulted by the notion that he’s too weak to wield anything but a musket he turns it right back into a threat. “I would not need a musket for you,” is both not what you want to hear from some English twerp and especially not when you’ve been discussing putting down oxen.
And then the actual fight, (available on YouTube and well worth the watch).
Cunningham is facetious in the extreme, limp wristed with dainty little rapier while Guthrie strides forward with his claymore, tiptoeing little bows and flourishes. He looks more like a poseable doll than a fighter, and the crowd hates him for it. But then at that first tap of the blade there’s no surprise, not the fear that a man so dainty should be feeling, just a perfect recovery and the hint of a smirk while Guthrie is still teasing him.
But then he’s fast, and he’s strong, and Guthrie cannot get the sword to fall from his grasp and he’s still smiling, unruffled and cool. Cunningham almost gets pinned and that’s when men panic but instead he pirouettes away with blood on his blade at the end of it, and that underestimation has been Guthrie’s undoing.
He struts around, hand to his mouth like a shocked countess, but then there’s that panther prowl again and he drives forward. He’s fast as a snake right to the end, able and willing to turn his back to an opponent knowing he’s better than them.
And then that last bit of humiliation, a return to that mocking, foppish bow and complete unconcern when his opponent almost strikes him for it, flitting back to his lord’s side looking just as unassuming as before.

Fourth MLM Ship Bracket Propaganda Submissions
Below you will find all of the submitted and approved ships for the Fourth MLM Ship Bracket Tournament along with the form to submit further propaganda at the bottom
This is another opportunity to submit propaganda for your favorite ships. Wether you were unable to submit propaganda for them in the initial form or you spot your favorite ship who has no propaganda submitted. Ships with a strikethrough have propaganda submitted, I will continue to update this post as propaganda is submitted. I will accept further propaganda for ships with already submitted propaganda but please prioritize those with out.
The goal is to have propaganda for all ships but I understand that may not be possible. Therefore I will be leaving the form open for a few weeks to see if we receive propaganda for at least half the ships.

Tumblr media
Aww that’s a sweet thanks.
Oh this is a long thanks message
Thanks to @itsclydebitches for getting me to listen to the series.
Okay is about someone being driven to Murder?!?!?
Oh, Hi Lena, how are you?
Wait why is there a self.
Lena can you please be chill about the files.
Sam does has a point about keeping up with cases.
Gwen can you not be a Karen for a minute.
Bruh, Gwen you suck. Lena asked you to do it.
Wait are they TMA cases
A statement from 1845, oh neat
Welll, I mean Sam will.
Okay Augustus statement
Transmutation, the principles of alchemy insert FMA music
Wait did you did the unforgivable transmutation?!???
The institute.
JONAH?!?!??! Is that you Bitch?!?
Are we reading Jonah’s diary?!?
Oh the Oil Skin great coat that’s cool.
Wait is that Oliver Banks?!??
Getting fused with your work and your self.
That is fair, for a disguise. I am from NYC and honestly most people don’t bat an eye at weird things. So it makes sense a power would be able to blend in of shorts.
It eats the passengers doesn’t it.
The coachman has the right idea, getting the fuck of there.
I mean the Dark would disagree.
Oh this definitely is Jonah with the quote “I cannot help but feel that to understand this thing may be to finally unlock the world as yet unknown to us. And in pursuit of that, there is no cost too great.”
Oh you sent the youngest to die you did.
Hmmm, yeah foundational power does get people to do wild stuff
The MAGNUS INSTITUTE?!??!?
Okay Archibald, that’s the kids name.
His Skin his Eyes
So the more fear the longer the digestion is?
One of the many reasons I couldn’t do that is because of my Dysgraphia
Augustus was very human like for most of the statement
Yeah it should be illegal to be a Bitch at work
Wait Jon did you send an email?
“You ever get any weird emails?” “I’m openly trans on the internet.” Yeah I hate how true that is.
Wait is Elias the MP is that why Gwen is freaking out so much about the visit.
The funniest MP choice is Tim, season one Tim who is an immense flirt and the definition of malicious compliance.
Yeah as some one who works in IT I always use the department printer for my personal work.
How much property did they buy?
Are they this universe’s Catholic Church or Royal Family ?
The archivist special interests are special interesting.
Breaking and Entering let’s go
Wait they are talking about it.
Glad that Sam is decent at sex good for them.
Poor Lena and the eye and probably having to listen to this.
Are they having the do you like, like me talk?
Celia is not wrong.
That hasn’t stopped Celia in the past from dealing with Death.
HILL TOP ROAD
LETS GOO!!!!
Yeah as a portal to another universe will do that
Wait it’s the one since that statement?!??
Oh my God they are Magnussing
Let’s go blowing up the PM.

Fyre sent me an article that made me Lose My Mind, so instead of sending 800 tweets about it, I decided to just write up my thoughts here
so, in re: ET Fox, 'Jacobitism and the Golden Age of Piracy' --
Fox is definitely exaggerating. His logic jumps from 'ship names and alleged toasts', to 'every pirate was one contact away from a confirmed Jacobite', to "a Jacobite maritime community" (296), with little evidence beyond each previous assumption. He does demonstrate a link with popular Jacobitism, but overstates pirates' political commitment by far.
There's one letter to George Camocke, a Jacobite naval officer, suggesting that the pirate fleet should unite under his command and take Bermuda as a Jacobite base, but the source is shaky, and it went nowhere once Woodes Rogers ousted the pirates. (It's I think from 1718 and unsigned? Possibly from Charles Vane and his crew? Fox only says that, "Through these contacts [unspecified, between Vane and English Jacobites] a letter reached George Camocke" (286), which is suspiciously vague, and I can't access the original to check. Either way, it would still only prove the committed politics of one crew.)
Fox also makes a lot of Archibald Hamilton, governor of Jamaica from 1710-16, who commissioned and profited from the anti-Spanish privateers who turned pirate and made up some of the original Bahamas pirates c. 1715. Since "it has been suggested that [Hamilton] was a Jacobite supporter" (283), Fox claims that these establishing pirates were also committed Jacobites, and therefore the whole pirate community that grew around them must have been. (Which leads to Fox then being baffled when there's no direct evidence of Jacobitism among some of them, such as the crews of Anstis, Fenn, or Rackham.) He relies on these assumptions, and then claims that every connection between pirates proves their mutual Jacobite sympathies.
It's much more likely (and in line with the historians I've read so far) that the Jacobite toasts and ship names speak to a broader anti-authoritarianism among pirates, with no evidence of committed Jacobite actions by them, eg, specifically targeting Hanoverian ships, or materially supporting or trying to support Jacobite rebels beyond that one letter. Indeed, the 1710s/20s pirates are generally agreed to be distinct for not adhering to religious/national loyalties like the C17th pirates usually did. (I'm so sorry, I haven't consolidated my notes yet, but I know Marcus Rediker goes through this, as does Kris E Lane, and I think Tim Travers and David Cordingly.)
Fox does identify a correlation between the rise and fall of Jacobitism and piracy over the mid/late 1710s, but attributes a pretty shaky causation: pirates ceased their Jacobite loyalties due to the suppression of Jacobitism in Britain and Europe. A much more obvious explanation is that both anti-authoritarian movements simultaneously flourished in the post-war, post-succession instability, then were both quashed as the new regime established itself and cracked down on rebels.
So, did many pirates espouse Jacobite sympathies? Yes! They named their ships in favour of Jacobite causes and rulers, and there are plenty of reports of them toasting to King James / the Pretender. (Which it must be said, although the sheer volume lends a ring of truth to the trend, individual claims should be taken with a grain of salt, as Jacobitism was a common accusation against criminals at the time, with or without a basis.)
Does that mean that the 1710s Caribbean pirate community was centred around a heart of politically committed Jacobites, as Fox argues, or largely motivated by Jacobite sentiments? Yeah, probably not.
Anyway, I am SO sorry that this article got me riled up XD the whole point of this is to say, I've never read anywhere that "many pirates were Jacobites driven out of Britain", which I KNOW wasn't even your main point, but I am unfortunately Insane. We can and should talk about expressions of pro-Jacobitism and actual political engagement among 'Golden Age' pirates, but what we know of their actual actions and espoused ideals doesn't speak to a trend of committed Jacobite politics beyond a general loyalty to rebellious causes.
#history#pirates#pirate history#Jacobites#Jacobitism#Togas does meta#this article annoyed me so much omfg#at every step Fox makes a sort of shaky assumption and then bases his next assumption entirely on that as if it's a proven truth#it's like IF hamilton was a commited jacobite and IF that loyalty was shared with the privateers and IF those privateers#retained and spread that belief among the growing pirate community and IF that was the belief that held the community together#then yeah sure i guess jacobitism was a core cause and concern for the golden age pirates#but that's a lot of fucking 'if's among a situation with a lot more obvious explanations#Fox is right that historians so far are probably ignoring the influence of Jacobitism on golden age pirates a bit#it really hasn't come up in all my reading so far and I've done... a pretty fair amount lol#but he goes so far in the opposite direction that it's kind of embarrassing#very BR Burg coded tbh XD (i say as if i've actually read burg >.> but all the reviews are forming a picture for me...)#EDIT: it's also worth noting that Jacobitism was rarely (never?) a charge laid against pirates in all the trials and moralising against them#which you'd think - if they were actually hardcore individual or broad-base supporters of the cause - might've come up more often#but anti-pirate arguments basically always revolve around the threat to trade and property therefore nation/empire#if lawyers and reverends wanted to argue that pirates were traitors - and they did! - you'd think they'd mention any actual treasons#EDIT EDIT: N: Harry M. Lewis (2021) George Camocke’s 1718 Proposal of a Jacobite–Pirate Alliance#The Mariner's Mirror 107:3 pp366-370#has better detail and context for that letter

“‘How shall we learn what it is our hearts believe in?’ Archibald MacLeish once asked. For me the answer is working with and through the camera —a peculiar machine that is the most plainly useful thing I will ever encounter. Which makes me curious about the nature of the desire to make things in this way.”

Links to My Other Muses!
Audrey “Rumor” Weed - My Main Blog! You Are Here! But also check out the blog, it’s got a lot of fun links/little fun bonus bits. Here to spread rumors, gossip, and party hard til the last day. Her best friends are Bob the Tomato and Petunia Rhubarb. Petunia makes sense, they have a history, but Bob? One can only wonder how long they've known each other. They're on a bowling league together, and she loves it. She's very competitive, just probably not the best bowler. She may have sold Jollies, but we forgot to do anything with that plotline so who knows.
Bartlebey the Butler - Oh, Bartlebey. How beloved your bartleblogging has become. You scamp. You scallywag. You may be a Lovecraftian horror who vaguely resembles and sounds like Tim Curry, but is also a Veggie, a Butler, and Bartlebey, but you’re our Lovecraftian horror. Rescued from a few mentions on a dead blog, we made you our own. In fact, really, the only thing we kept was the only information given: your name and occupation. Now we know so much about you! Well... we know more than we did before, anyway. And that information can be found on the provided Veggie Lore page on the blog, if you don’t feel like sifting through all the RP logs. He is madly in love with Charlie Pincher. One could even say he's Charlie Pincher's dream come true. Maybe he is. He doesn't know where he came from, and his memories all seem fabricated. Was he ever real to begin with?
Phil Winklestein - the Toledian actor best known for being Frankencelery, potentially the next great musical playwright? probably not, though. Just really, really attracted to tomatoes for some reason. He's awkward, uncomfortable, and genuinely a little pathetic. A real "poor little meow meow" of a guy, or whatever you call them. He tries too hard to impress and it often backfires on him.
Peter Pepperazzi - the sleaziest Pepper you’ve ever met. He gives off dark, unsettling vibes, and nobody knows quite why he’s so obsessed with the Veggies, but when they became active again the summer of ‘23, he showed up as well, ready to ask questions. Does he seem a little obsessed with Petunia more than the others? What's his angle? Does he look familiar? He says he has a kid. Does he have any other family around?
Lovey Asparagus - poor, sweet Lovey. Went through an awful period of marriage, murdered divorced her husband, and yet he came back anyway, denying any knowledge of the worst of their relationship. She’s a Vampire now and her best friend is Jerry Gourd, so you know we’re following canon VeggieTales very closely. Only source material here, folks. She may have murder a little deeper in her veins than we think, and as her relationship with Archibald - at least, the one who returned - heals, she's considering solving murders and doing a true crime podcast with him. Just as best friends instead of lovers, this time.
Nebby K Nezzer - The man, the myth, the looks-67-but-is-actually-37 zucchini with a rotten love life. The Incident at Glee Club Finals may have been what aged him so drastically overnight, but nobody knows for sure. Rumor has it that he's actually Wally P. Nezzer pretending to be his twin brother Nezzer, but how long has he pretended? He seems to know too well the life of his brother Nebby. Is he more Nebby K. Nezzer than Wally P. Nezzer now?
Art Bigotti - revived famous bowler Art Bigotti, a once-wild party animal who has softened his edge with world-weary bleakness after a game of Jumanji gone wrong. Well, wrong for him. The game probably meant to do that. Either way, he returned forty years later, still the same age he was the night of the Incident. There are many questions left unanswered for him, and drugs, alcohol, and bowling just don’t seem to be the solution they once were in his golden days. His unrequited love for Dad Asparagus is obvious to pretty much everybody except Dad Asparagus, much to his distress and relief. Disrelief? Restress? There's a lot of highs and lows in bowling and love. They have that in common.
Laura Carrot - the child actor/criminal who Uno and Goliath believe murdered Uno’s parents in a Hot Topic. She did it. But don’t tell the cops I said that! She’s just an eight year old with a dream. A dream to own her own getaway truck one day. If only the world would stop getting in the way of that dream... Junior's her best friend, she may have killed Lenny, and she complains a lot about her dad. We never hear much about the rest of the people in her life, and maybe that's for the best.
Goliath Gottik - dated Uno in his younger days, though after the Incident, it became clear that Uno was suffering a severe breakdown and refused to grow, staying mentally in 2006 for the last seventeen years. He became a professional boxer, cameo’d on VeggieTales, and recently became more active in acting. Because of the whole Laura thing, he doesn’t really trust kids and believes they’re all criminal masterminds. He's not really smart enough to stop seeking medical advice from his veterinarian-combo-doctor Dr. Larry, which does lead to some wacky situations. He's constantly annoyed by his doctor, but maybe he thinks of their situation as friends, maybe as enemies, or maybe just really confusing frenemies. Seriously Goliath, why are you still going to him for medical advice? God forbid you actually need real medical help one day, it may be the death of you.
Pa Grape - Uno’s adoptive father. Tom and Rosie just aren’t around any more, they live out of state, and they never visit. Ma? Well, Ma seems to have gone a long time ago, and Pa doesn’t mention it. If you ask him, he’ll just faintly smile and allude to the fact that she’s been gone a while, a little sorrowfully. And sure, that looks like confirmation that she’s passed, but she could just be on a very long vacation, or they could be divorced, and who even knows. Pa’s been losing his memory lately as he ages, and he does his best to get by with the help of Uno, who needs to let go of the past and accept the way things have changed to heal in time to appreciate his father. Pa Grape also was front-man for Three Days Grace Period, a Three Days Grace cover band. His wife may be a car? Seriously, his wives are definitely a confusing subject, and I don't trust Pa Grape, even if his cover band was kind of cool.
Shannon Cedric “Uno” Scallion, or, Alternatively: Nameless Scallion/Scallion Number 1 - Yeah, he’s goff. He writes fanfic. It’s always 2006 for this scallion, who seems unaware of time passing, though Pa is helping him through his emotions and pulling him out of Emo Hell. He’s worried for his adoptive father, who despite his emo ‘you’re not my real dad’ attitude, he genuinely loves and sees as his dad. He’s embarrassed by the name Shannon (not goff enough), used to go by Cedric before The Incident, and then eventually settled on ‘Uno’ as an appropriate substitute. He's starting to catch up on time, or maybe time is catching up on him, and he's recognizing Pa Grape's aging and falling back into his old self - pre-incident. (I manage this blog with the permission of the owner, who has currently abandoned the project due to unforeseen drama in his life. He did promise to possibly add more ‘secrets’ to the blog, if you know what to look for in the URLs, and might return to his fanfics soon.)
Kilt “Bagpipe” Rhubarb - You know him. That Scottish or maybe Irish lad. And if you don’t? Send him some asks and get to know him. He's a Yale man, a redheaded rhubarb who's inexplicably flirtatious and a little horny. Before Archibald came back, everybody knew him as "that fella Archibald cheated on his wife with". Also a general menace to their society. He's not who he says he was, but who is he then?
Tom Grape - He just wants to be left alone. Why don’t you bother him with some asks?
Egg Boy - He likes Eggs. What else do you need to know? An orphan who wants to know who his parents were, and is also a biter/has sharp teeth like a shark. For a few years he thought his father might be at the bottom of the sea...
Vicki Cucumber - like, ugh, whatever 🙄 she's over it. she's done. She's not even all that into him, and maybe she's just trying to cover up her feelings for someone else. Or maybe she's madly in love with both of them. Or neither of them. It's so not your business.
Scooter Carrot - he’s hip, he’s Scottish, some kids call him oddball, some kids call him weird…
Mr. Beet - Not to be confused with his brother, Mr. Beast, Mr. Beet runs a hotel and generally is pretty pissed off all the time. Maybe there's a dramatic backstory his episode didn't cover, but we'll sure figure it out if we ever get around to focusing on our many many characters. Seriously. Look at this list. This is just Ryan's (me) list. You know how many characters I plan to ADD to it?
Joetato Jonas - star of Camp Rock 2: the Final Jam and Head Brother of the Jonas Brothers. He just wants to be appreciated for being famous! He's THE Jonas Brother!

For the Stoker Swap AU (sorry if you've mentioned this elsewhere and I just haven't seen) - how did Danny survive the Stranger stuff, or did that just not happen? Does Tim in this scenario know what the Magnus Institute is or does he just accept it as his little brother's workplace?
About the Kitty AU, how does which Archive member acquire their kitten, do they need to be persuaded, do they go "omg kitten GIMME", how are they (thinking they are) hiding it all from Elias?
For the stoker swap: in ep 104, Tim says that Danny had gone out to the royal opera house, seen clown stuff, came back traumatized, and then went back and disappeared. In this au, Tim prevents him from going back that second time and disappearing. Danny then tries to find answers himself, leading him to the institute.
As far as Tim's knowledge of the institute, he knows what it does but not much else about it. When he finds out Danny got a job there behind his back with FAKE qualifications, he gets Stressed. The more he learns about how business goes at the institute the more stressed he gets. He is very stressed in this au alsjkskdk
For the mallow family: everyone wants a kitten. For Tim, sasha, and jon, they more or less choose their kittens. Tim falls in love with Lil Baby Fudge immediately, Sasha likes Turing's little thumbs (good for crimes), and the others insist to Jon that Duke Archibald has to be his because they match (duke Archie is the smallest, and has facial markings that look like angry eyebrows and a mustache) and he can't argue with that tiny face
Martin, however, was chosen by ms. Mallow. He is her giant human son. She is the best mother he's ever had.
As far as hiding from elias.... I haven't thought too much about that. I don't think they'd be able to hide it. I think Jon would just be stubborn like "well we can't throw them onto the street yet, elias, the kittens are only just born"
