A) to the point of invention AU

jiang yanli is at lotus pier and she dies :(. wwx and jc proceed to go absolutely feral and codependecy skyrockets

until golden core transfer fails. fuck. dealers choice how

maybe smthing smthing jiang cheng wakes up to see he's being operated on. his brother lied to him about baoshen sanren and he's about to lose another sibling. #traumatised

both wwx and jc lose their core. they mad angry abt it, at the others throat- codependecy spirals. maybe they fuck. maybe they don't. anyways.

wwx invents demonic cultivation with the intent to protect-- he's mad about it being safe coz his shidi is gonna have to learn it to rebuild lotus pier and take revenge. they'd do it together. cue mad frenzy! wwx, jc handling it with the same ease he's done for years, and wen sibs watching this absolute clusterfuck wondering if these freaks are brothers or lovers or a secret third option.

demonic cultivation being so op and still mad safe because that's his shidi who he has to protect! . maybe they figure out how to power zidian through resentful energy

so you have DEMONIC CULTIVATORS! JC and WWX, both of them. rebuilding lotus pier, taking in E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E that passes their dodgy moral code. unconventional sect numero uno. super-effing-powerful. No. 1 power couple #lifegoals.

nobody knows whether these two are fucking or not. even i don't. parasitic relationship but like lichen.

Jin Ling don't exist (sad face) but Jiang Yuan, sect heir, new gen demonic + spiritual cultivator, all around powerhouse. his xian-gege and wanyin-ge are so so proud.

where's the rest of the world, isaac? where's lan zhan. oops. forgot about them. pretend they're avoiding the demonic cult. (baby there's so many holes in the plot that it's practically cartoon cheese.) I just know there's gonna be a lot of cultivation science. and politics. and worldbuilding. and wwx being shidifucker extraordinaire.

B) blur on the horizon AU

wwx dies. and wakes up. not in mo xuanyu's body.. but in some random cultivator's body. like. and year or two post siege or burial mounds

he travels straight to jc. lotus pier still be recruiting. the recruiters take in this shady man.. let's be real. everyone here is just as shady.

he get's the intro. gets shown the rebuilt pier, the rules and The List. The List being how to defend gongzhu from shitty people and shittier politics. he's so fawking proud bit also resentful and angry because he should have been there. twin prides on yunmeng, remember? (for once in my life let wwx be the more bitter one abt yunmeng shuangjie yeah?)

WWX tries to stay away from JC. but he can't. let's be real he cant.

he climbs up the ranks fast... everyone can see this man would give his life for sect leader jiang. cue Second in Command being WWX 2.0 . wwx, for his part is so bitter but also incandescently happy. man never met an emotion he couldn't twist.

Jiang Cheng is wondering why this random cultivator seems so familiar. it get's so bad that he uses zidian to check this one whether he's wwx every once in a while.

but Jiang Cheng is also so tired of seeing ghosts from the corner of his eyes. and jin ling likes this new SIC when he barely likes anyone apart from his jiujiu. he lets go a little. wwx can wait, for once in his life.

cue wwx gaslighting jc into thinking there's no way this one could be wwx. also him being conflicted because on one hand jc's starting to trust him, and this life is almost everything he's dreamed of, but on the other, he's doing this as Random Cultivator and not WWX, how could you forget me, Shidi?

again, for once in my life let wwx be the more bitter one abt yunmeng shuangjie yeah?

idk i havent resolved this one. but there's a scene where wwx finds out abt chenqing, and jc in a fit of anger, after a hell lot of provoking, talks abt how SIC should have been his brother's (the feared yilling laozhu's) and not some strangers. and jc thinks this guy's gonna run far away from the madman his sect leader is but he's only more loyal more sticky more everything? is everything alright up in his head??

all of jiang cheng's life, he's never been wanted first, yeah? His father prefers his elder, adopted brother. His mother prefers her work and if she has to interact with someone it's his elder sister. His elder sister's got her own life- a boyfriend madly in love with her- a future mother-in-law who's more of a mother than her own- and sometimes Jiang Cheng thinks even she prefers Wei Wuxian more than him. (jin guangshan was rich, and is dead, good riddance.)

the only one who's cared about him is Wei Wuxian- JC's always been his person for wwx. and that matters so much... here's the person who loves Jiang Cheng for himself, someone for who he isn't a disappointment.

so when one day, on the day of wei changze and cangse sanren's tenth death anniversary, jiang fengmian, drunk out of his mind, tries to kiss wwx, saying how he looks so much like his parents and jc watches it happen. he sees how wwx is so fucking scared.. his brother, his person, the only person who has ever mattered is terrified.. and he just. sees scared and so fucking angry that he doesn't think. it's red. grabs his mother's favourite vase, and smashes is against his father's head

there's a dead man on the floor, bleeding into the carpet. baby jc going hysterical that he killed his dad. and wwx is cold. he can think it through. he's been betrayed by a man he thought as a father... and there's no one he can trust anymore. he has to save jc.

they bury jiang fengmian in the backyard, and run. they dont look back.

years later, jiang fengmian is a homicide case, wwx is a deranged kidnapper and murderer still at large, and jiang cheng is presumed dead. meanwhile, there's two lovely men living in a backwater town, bickering like old married couples do, and it's so nice to see love is in the air. nothing strange about them, yeah? they must have had those old-fashioned prejudiced people for parents. good on them for running away.

you know I swear the hermitcraft fandom doesn’t do enough with area 77 these days. it’s an entire arc where doc and scar worked together to run what is basically canonically the scp foundation. one of the scps is keralis. another one of them is technically grian if you count time travel and villager grian or whatever. also this is when the whole alien that scar kept as a pet and is implied to have at least eaten etho, if not the rest of the nho, showed up. also there’s a whole convex divorce arc. also, like, okay, listen, aesthetically, “scar and doc run a secret military organization designed to secure, contain, and study unexplained and dangerous phenomena” FUCKS as a premise okay like listen why aren’t we doing more with this anymore we need to be doing more with this—

Jessamine's design has always intrigued me. the stark, full black suit and tall collar are pretty obvious status symbols. black was for the longest time an incredibly expensive colour of fabric due to how difficult it was to achieve proper rich blackness during the dyeing process and the collar, while most likely just a trend in Dunwall fashion inspired by the 1890s high collars can be read as lace, especially in some concept art, which is hard to care for and needs to be starched to hell and back to keep nice and stiff for a collar like that

but what I find a lot more curious about this is that the clothes appear very much inspired by Spanish renaissance fashion

which, honestly, would make sense with the real world inspiration. 19th century was obsessed with the past, with the romanticized medieval and renaissance times, and it was quite common to see fashion inspired by times long past (I mean, just look at Worth. the man invented haute couture and there is so much influence of medieval and Elisabethan fashion in his designs). it was also a thing for rich families to just kinda... invest in recreations of historical pieces of clothing and LARP in them.

Jessamine's clothes, in particular, reminded me of Spanish court dresses. especially of the portraits of Anne of Austria and Elisabeth of Valois

obsessed with those slit sleeves. too bad Jessamine didn't go the extra mile to have the sleeves hang long and heavy around her arms but they were more form fitting

there is also something to be said about the tall white (possibly starched lace) collar and the style of clasps used on her clothes

the mini cape thing she has on top is more similar to the style of capes worn by men in renaissance, but yeah, of course she reminded me of a Spanish princess when this is one of the most given example portraits for this style

I wonder if this was an intentional choice on the designer's side or if they were just inspired by the revivalism present in 19th century fashion. what really makes me consider that though is that one of her earlier designs has those sleeves much, Much more pronounced and obvious

Had a whole lot of character thoughts last night so I think I'm gonna dump them all into one quick post:

Now that I've changed things so Marcus has a nice little polycule I think some pretty bad shit went down to get him to remove himself from the planet. I have a sense of what that might be but I'm left asking myself why his mom is just actually the worst. Unless I can think of a new angle I don't wanna do "royalty generational trauma" again and it's also not quite "absolute power corrupts absolutely" but there could still be some corruption with non-absolute power. The question is what does she really want and why

Marcus likes his Rade friends for themselves but it is hard to overstate how much Horatio reminds him of Gren and how this has been a catalyst in the development of their relationship. Not everyone reminds him of someone but Celia also gives him Yera vibes

Avis one million percent thinks that Antony is wrong and she will be completely fine being alone on the ocean 95% of the time. She did it before but now she's not gonna be stewing about Sorian the whole time so it will be great. But she truly does not realize the extent to which the people she thinks are alone (Sorian, who refuses to be with anyone but her) are not alone at all (gee, Sorian, how come your bad choices let you have TWO families?). And I think after 6-12 months of Freedom TM she finds herself moving back into other people's orbits, including Sorian's. I think I can get them back together at this point. There's just no way to do it in AOM because she's still getting the "I squandered 15 years not verbally abusing my husband" out of her system.

She also doesn't believe that Sorian is completely fine with being single actually. In fact she frequently doesn't believe anything anyone tells her but just in different ways

The plot of Lexie's story is her having a bad time with her job or whatever, not having fun ever, and then Marigold shows up and her life is only fun. The whole time Lexie keeps joking that Marigold is bad for her. Wylie says she is but Wylie projects his anxieties. Derik says she is but Derik is a killjoy. Snap says she might be which is about as certain as he ever is but he doesn't even know her. But finally, maybe before they get into stuff that is very bad, she has to admit that yeah, Marigold IS bad for her and they should go their separate ways. But that won't stop her from saving Marigold later when she gets in some kind of trouble

I’ve determined that for my Shen Mei AU, it’d be funniest--maybe not the most logical, but definitely funniest--if she unintentionally Horse Girl™’s her way into being the stallion Bingge’s girlfriend -- after having spent most of the earliest parts of SVSSS trying her damnedest not to potentially end up in Bingmei’s harem. That ultimately didn’t exist at all.

Like! Absolutely unintentional, but because Ning Yingying is like the second person Bingge properly meets after Shen Qingqiu... she can’t help being the one to notice her brother brought back the wrong Binghe.

She’s less averse to being called Yingying than the OG is in canon. So that’s not what tips her off (though it is odd), but like... 8′| Her brother’s boyfriend would never attempt to flirt with her. This is. Incorrect. How do backpedal from situation??? How do tactfully reject a Binghe that’s actually kind of scary?

Well, she’s may be kinda banking on the fact that he probably won’t hurt her? Probably. Maybe. And though she’s a bit frightened, she’s doing her best to stay Really Very Nice to him, because she knows what this guy’s been through--and, yes, what he’s capable of. Though, she’d also just sorta like to be nice to him in general, too? Perhaps try to gently explain that things are different here.

Um. Actually, it’d be really bad if her brother came back to this Binghe without his Binghe around, huh. So she resigns herself to maybe? Hanging out with Bingge? If he’d like that, and-- Oh! Hey, there’s someone she thinks he might like to see, because You never had the chance to meet your father, did you?

Do you want to?? He’s alive. She can’t promise how many pieces he’s in at the moment--it’s a long story--but he’s alive! Last she checked, Tianlang-Jun was still being kept at the monastery, so... it'll be fun! Because you aren’t going to get anywhere with the other girls, either. Trust her. Also, it’d be a real pain in the ass if Liu Qingge or any of the other Bai Zhan brats showed up.

Though! She assures Bingge that if anyone tries to give him trouble she’d handle it (and them, if she has to) -- not because he can’t, but because she insists. So, c’mon c’mon! Aren’t you at least a little bit curious? Besides, if stealing something from Bingmei sounds appealing... why not start with dad? She won’t mention that Binghe doesn’t really want anything to do with him, shh. That’s a secret~

....though, to be honest, Tianlang-Jun would probably love to hear about his, uh-- Exploits. Among other things.

Needless to say, Shen Qingqiu comes back & nearly has a heart attack

The Correct Binghe eventually returns to Cang Qiong mountain, which is good & bad (Binghe is upset)

This still leaves them with the problem of two Binghes

Oh Dear God Shen Yuan’s Sister Was Transmigrated Into One Of Bingge’s Wives.

TLDR visit with Fafther goes better than anticipated. It’s a little less Father-Son bonding than one might hope, but she wasn’t hoping for much per that regard, really. Just that they’d get along better than TLJ & Bingmei do -- which is thankfully a very low bar. It’s uh.. good for them? She thinks? Anyway, she likes Tianlang-Jun. They are acquainted. Y’know from the time Zhuzhi-Lang kidnapped her, but that’s an AU plot point to be discussed at a later date.

Having successfully navigated a normal(?)--for demons, probably?--conversation and leaving the monastery, Bingge and Shen Mei immediately have to contend with A Very Worried Elder Brother & Bingmei afterward. Oh no.

--anyway, this is all to say that Shen Mei was very serious when she said that if anyone gave Bingge trouble, then she’d handle it. She can’t hope to compete if things escalate, but she WILL stand between Bingge and Shen Qingqiu and chastise her brother for being Mean To Him. Which Bingge doesn’t. really. know what to do with.

He’s perfectly fine with starting a fight. Bingmei’s fine with a fight. Yet, there is a cute lil Ning Yingying yelling at her shizun for his sake??? Like, he has NO idea that they aren’t actually NYY & SQQ, so the impertinence on display is far more than he would have ever expected from the sweet, albeit air-headed Shimei he’d married. Everything is backwards.

It pisses him off. It hurts. It’s unfair.

Shen Mei only just barely prevents an altercation by throwing herself at Bingge and activating her rightful powers as a Little Sister™ (and like. an alternate version of one of his wives?) -- becoming a clingy, doe-eyed mess and begging really, really hard. Please don’t fight. I don’t want you to fight... I won’t let them bully you, okay? Q~Q

Which is simultaneously much more like the NYY Bingge knows & not. Frankly, Shen Qingqiu looks like he’s about to die, because that’s still his Actual Sister!!! Bingmei, on the other hand, is flummoxed and pretty offended. (NYY is gonna be on his shitlist for a hot minute, oops)

Ultimately, Bingge manages to reclaim his sword & fuCKING eSCAPES. Because he’s a loser and this is more Feeling than he can handle. He’ll be back, though. Eventually.

RIP to Shen Mei, who understands not what she’s done. Also, she prefers girls, so... trans!girl Bingge, let’s go.

first best thing about writing crack-taken-seriously is that when you do the angst and genuine stuff there ppl are always bait-switched into feeling it really hard. second best thing is inventing facts about things and making them tonally indistinguishable from actual real world information in the story

writing exercise, i guess, for anybody who, like me, has problems telling a coherent story with actual plot elements:

create a list of all your major characters, what they want, and their opinions of/relationships with the other major characters

then create a list of every major decision your POV character makes >> the fallout/consequences of those decisions

your POV character's every major decision should cause something to change in the world around them/cause some other major character to react somehow.

if every major decision doesn't connect to a consequence which then subsequently calls for another decision, your plot isn't a plot, it's just a list of things happening to your passive characters

do you have a basic timeline of events/plot points for the batb au?

It's sort of barebones in places but here's what I have so far:

Raz runs away, and Dion chases after his trail. Raz gets lost after sending Sugarcube off, and stumbles upon the mansion in the morning. Assuming it's abandoned, he climbs over the wall to poke around and explore.

The Aquatos find out what happened midway through the morning. Augustus and Frazie set out to find Raz & Dion around midday.

Dion arrives at the mansion after noon, and ends up climbing over the gate when Raz doesn't respond to his calls. He finds out that a) the mansion is not abandoned, and b) there is a spider monster who doesn't want to let Raz go "because he trespassed."

Dion manages to convince Gisu to let Raz go in exchange for having Dion stay. Raz is sent off with Sugarcube and enough supplies to make it back to camp.

Augustus and Frazie run into Raz in the late evening, and find out what went down at the mansion. They continue searching, but can't find the mansion by the time night falls. They return to the rest of the family.

Adam brings Dion to an unused room to settle in for the night, and Dion meets Morris through the small radio on the nightstand. He doesn't sleep well.

Gisu disappears into her lab to consume all of the romance media available to her. She is going to break this curse and she is going to do it right. She does not reemerge until late next morning.

Dion decides he's going to channel every inch of pettiness he has and then some, starting with taking the radio and setting it outside the room.

Dion pokes around the mansion a bit, trying to stave off boredom. He walks into a room, the fire crackles to life as Norma comes in to take a look at the new guy. Dion will later vehemently deny screaming like a banshee and throwing the nearest object (a vase) at the fire (he missed and hit the mantle).

The Aquatos go into the town to try and find out more about the mansion in the woods, as well as to see if they can't hire a local guide. They do not find the help they're looking for, and make plans to go into the forest to search on their own.

The Dinner Debacle™ happens. Dion meets Lizzie during this, and finds out that the giant tree in the courtyard is Sam.

The next morning comes, and the weather is ass. The Aquatos are unable to go search in these conditions.

The exact chain of events following this isn't as clear yet, but the general gist involves further shenanigans in the mansion as Gisu and Dion slowly start to become something approaching friends. Key scenes include Dion being invited into her lab and actually going in, Gisu giving Dion an empty room to make into whatever he sees fit and him making a basic trapeze to practice on, etc etc.

The Aquatos' plight catches the attention of the villain, who goes up to them to ask them in further detail what happened. Raz tells him about Gisu, which gives the villain an idea...

Dion and Gisu continue to get closer as time passes. Shenanigans abound. Gisu starts to lose sight of the goal of romancing Dion in favor of just,,, being his friend.

The villain uses their natural charisma to gather up a group of people sympathetic to the Aquatos' plight. But Lucrecia recognizes an angry mob in its infancy and the Aquatos end up refusing the villain's help.

Dion finds out that his family has been staying in the area looking for him, and feels bad about holding them back from moving onto the next town to perform. But he doesn't want to leave Gisu and the others behind—not while there's still a chance he can help them break their curse (and he'd still like an explanation as to how, exactly, they expect him to do that.)

Gisu makes the choice for him, and chases him off, playing up the "monster" part as much as she can. Dion runs off. The other interns yell at Gisu for this, but it's too late to try and bring Dion back—he's already past the outer wall, and Sam's control over the animals doesn't extend further than that.

Dion makes it to the town, only to run into the villain and the building mob. He's immediately detained under the accusation of being "bewitched by the monstress," with the villain using the bracelet that Gisu gifted him as proof.

The villains leads the mob to go storm the mansion, leaving Dion behind at the stake. The Aquatos show up just in time to put out the fire and untie him, and he tells them about what happened at the mansion.

The interns find out about the oncoming mob and prepare to defend the mansion, using every extent of their abilities. Gisu disappears into her lab to finish an invention that could help.

And then I'm still working out the ending so I'm cutting things off here.

Protective Amity Park Au but maybe not like you would think?

Danny's identity wasn't as hidden as Sam, Tucker, Jazz and him thought. His identity was an open secret, in fact his whole town knew that Danny was their hero Phantom, well everyone but his oblivious parents but they were a case of their own. The thing was his entire town knew about his oh so big secret identity and that he was the one trying to save them from ghosts 90% of the time as well as from his own parents crazy inventions at times.

Dash shoving him into lockers like a bully? Danny didn't look good and Dash tried in crude ways to give him reasons to skip classes to rest. It also later was a good move to hide him from snoopy government agents also known as the Guys in White or GIW for short. Really his bullying played perfectly into him finding creative ways to get Danny to skip classes for rest.

Valerie hunting him and other ghosts? Well she was hunting him in the very beginning, but then it became an attempt to make him stop fighting the ghosts on their behalf but in the end it turned into her trying her best to be the support to him that Sam and Tucker couldn't be in a fight. Let alone taking 'night shifts' from him so Danny could get at least a good nights rest every now and then.

Sam's parents the Mansons? Sure they didn't like him that much from the start anyway but most of their anger later stemmed from the danger their daughter was willingly get into to help their reckless teenhero that shouldn't be a hero at his age anyway. Let alone shoulder the responsible for their entire town at the age of 14.

Tuckers parents? They were glad any time Danny stayed over with their son, even attempting to subtitle convince the boys to have more sleepovers at their home. Surely being a hero with ghost powers and living in a house of ghost hunting parents wasn't easy on Danny. They were glad that they could give him some peace at their home. They willingly ignored it when Danny showed up late night in Tuckers room, getting patched up by their son.

The entire town apparently hating him with all these negative newspapers and comments? All fake in a desperate attempt to get the 14 years old teenager with a bad sleeping schedule and powers to stop risking his damned life, half-life. Surely if they appeared not thankful the kid would get the hint and stop playing hero. Like seriously he was a kid! Who's bright idea was it to let a kid fight these dangerous appearing ghosts?! Oh right the poor kids parents were incompetent when it came to ghost hunting and it wasn't like they could just up and do it without destroying the kids confidence. Plus the GIW were no help either.

Vlad becoming Mayor was not exactly their plan but they thought maybe they could use that as some help to convince Danny more that he didn't need to play hero for them just because he got powers now. That didn't turn out like they hoped and THAT plan was dismissed quickly. Especially when the GIW showed up. They learned their lesson sort of quickly after that, at least when it came to people from out of Amity did not mean well.

Lancer, at first when Danny first showed up as Phantom, had attempted to get into contact with the Justice League several times, so that Danny would actually get the professional help he needed and get some sleep at night as well as the time he needed for his schooling so that heroing wouldn't be the only career path he would be forced into. The additional point of getting the kid training too for his powers was also very tempting, there are only so many chemical breakers they could allow the him to break before they HAD to sort of ban him from touching them again.

But when the GIW appeared in their town they stopped trying to reach the Justice League. Suspecting that that was the answer they sent in regards to their SOS calls. Amity Parks protectiveness over their teenheroes that sacrificed to much skyrocketed. They started to sabotage the Agents subtitle. Always working within the limits of the orders and finding the loop holes.

"Oh but we did comply, not our fault that you guys tripped and let Phantom escape."

"Wupp, sorry I got that from the Fentons for self defence, but it looks like I need to work on my aim."

"I am so sorry, my car is stuck! See my tire is popped I can't get out of your vans way."

The fact that Amity Parks weather report was more a report on the ghosts, the Fenton parents and the GIW was all a tactic for them all to keep each other informed so they could execute any step to ensure their -by now- towns sweethearts safety. Even if they still tried to turn the poor kid away from being a hero with all the unnecessary mean comments and articles.

So when one day a hero from the Justice League showed up it was predictable that they all were suspicious of it. Even more so when that hero came with a bunch of teenage heroes. Apparently they were here to investigate a bunch of ignored calls one of the teenheroes found in their call logs. Some of the adults eyed Lancer who in turn was glaring at the heroes fessed up, he hadn't attempted to call them ever since they decided to sent the GIW into their town. Which apparently was more of a cover as these heroes showed an interest in the Fentons research of Ectoplasm pretty quickly.

Well now Batman and his flock of bats and birds were confronted with a very unhappy town that was apparently very protective of their hero and 'accidentally' continued to manage to block them from making contact with said teenhero. And who where these Guys in white suits that tried to suck it up to Batman? Better question why was the entire town suddenly hostile towards them when they started to look into the Fenton Family that had a connection to Lazarus Water?

Meanwhile Danny is confused by his towns newfound favouritism towards Batman and his entourage and how whenever he went to find out what was that about everyone seems to deflect. Even Sam, Tucker and Jazz were confused by what was going on!
