I'm sorry if it's rude to ramble in your asks but that skalter fic has left such an imprint on me that I'm only now remembering and I want to thank you so much for writing it because I love every part of it, gladiia's grief fueled rage, skalter being confused and afraid of the life she found herself into, every part of her body screaming at her to do something she desperately wants to never do, choosing to let gladiia live, choosing to heal her even if superficially, honoring the dying wish of someone she never knew yet knows more intimately than anyone else, and the slightest hope that maybe just maybe she could grow into her own person free of the Seaborn's will, and that she could carry on skadi's legacy 🥹

I'm wondering if, as a society who cares about vulnerable people, we could stop saying "traumatize" when we truly mean "upset"?

I am sick of hearing sad books or movies "traumatize" their readers. I simply do not believe that happens. A traumatic experience might be adjacent to books (I have vivid memories of books I was reading around certain experiences and even how the contents of those books affected my processing of the experiences). But it's not caused by the book. And, y'know. The weather is Christofascist Censorship Attempts outside.

Meanwhile from the other side I continue to be surprised at just how badly people fail to understand trauma and traumatic experiences in general. Watering down the term isn't helping. Find other hyperbole to express that The Bridge to Terebithia gutted you, chewed on your heartstrings, and made you cry your first pair of contact lenses right out of your preteen eyes.

Honestly even keeping your newborn in a separate room at night always felt nuts to me. We're such social and tactile animals and iirc there's evidence that parents get more rest and less nighttime disturbances when baby is close by. I'm not saying you should cosleep with your baby in bed but products like bedside bassinets feel like a good compromise on safety+closeness. Idk man we're primates, babywearing is the name of the game in this clade
