Steampunk Divine Beast From Spring And Autumn Period.
Richer in zoomorphic options than the griffin, this teasing bronze beast is actually a musical instrument bracket. Geometric and animalistic patterns are inlaid with turquoise.
Bronze of the Spring and Autumn period. In the collection of Henan Museum (河南博物院).
My favourite song from the OST🥹 the lyrics are absolute perfection❤️
English translations (by me)
* Cut a sliver of wind cascading over the moonlit water
Someone is hiding in their memories, not willing to leave first
Collect a dream while the night is still obscure
Before he wakes, there was a beginning and an end
** She’s seen wilderness over the hills and dales, enshrouding all
Seen the seductive red staining the snow
She’s been dressed in day and night, brushing shoulders with falling stars
Searching for the leaf no one has seen
*** She endured the long harsh winter moon, hoping to catch one glimpse of you
Loneliness entangled to a string of red
All of a sudden she realised, whilst intoxicated, past memories flashing before her
Who’s face is it?
~~~
* x1
How many times will shoulders brush past before a gaze of acknowledgment?
** x1
She holds the flowers reflecting in the mirror and moon in the water (t/n: idiom which means unattainable illusions), annihilating in a blink of an eye
A trip to the human realm was a moment of fleeting bliss
She voyaged down the river Lethe, half a piece of jade in her palm
Losing track of time is honestly the theme of 2024 so that’s why this month’s music obsessions is coming at the end of the month instead of the beginning. However, we’re here with another Taiwanese singer as we dive into our next one. While I wanted to alternate between male and female singers, I ended up listening to a lot of this singer recently out of spontaneity so we’re just rolling with it.…
Making a suona (唢呐). Suonas are an important part of the folk music of northern China, and used in operas, weddings, funerals, processions and for military purposes.
XL and MQ are watching enraptured, completely obsessed with the story being told, the music, the performance, all of it!
HC hasn't noticed the performance at all, he's watching XL's face.
FX doesn't really care that much. Also:
FX: *sees some impressive acrobatics* "I could do that"
XL, MQ and HC, in unison: "no you couldn't"
QYZ keeps trying to run off because he's bored. YY likes Opera but he is too focused on keeping QYZ in his seat. He misses most of the performance (XL later buys him a solo ticket, with HC's money obviously, so he can see one on his own). QYZ eventually settles down when YY holds his hand. QYZ, despite his boredom, is happy to be out in public with Shixiong!
Humanity is amazing. I love how diverse people and cultures are.
I was reading a story and when a character in it sang, the listeners in the story all commented on how apparent it was that she'd been trained in Chinese opera. And I was curious as to what the hallmarks are of Chinese opera singers. With European opera singers, you can immediately tell that they're trained when they sing because they'll vibrato the heck out of everything and sing from deep in the diaphragm unless they are trying REALLY, REALLY hard not to. So what makes somebody immediately recognizable as having trained in Chinese opera?
So I did what any self-respecting person does these days and did a search for Chinese opera. I clicked on the first video link and it was a subtitled aria. And folks, I spent the first few minutes wondering who was singing and why they were focusing the video on the dancer instead. And then I watched two more videos of different singers to be sure. And my mind was blown. Because at least in the Peking opera tradition, the women BARELY MOVE THEIR LIPS while singing. They are the ULTIMATE ventriloquists. It's amazing and blows my mind because it is the exact opposite of how European-style singing is taught, where you start out by learning how to exaggerate all of your mouth movements in order to get clear tones and then are slowly walked back into something not quite as cartoonish looking.
(Regarding how to tell if somebody is a classically trained Chinese opera singers, from what I can tell the singing was all focused around their noses, which is a very cool method that sounds very strange to me right now but will probably sound very beautiful once I get used to it. So I'm guessing that the character in the story focused her voice to her nose the way a European opera singer would focus her voice to her diaphragm.)
If anybody knows better how to describe this or what the actual hallmarks of Chinese opera singers are or if I just randomly got lucky by watching three different women sing without moving their lips, please respond!
I've been wondering what sort of songs you think wangxian would play in your trans lwj band au art
I’m honestly a bit conflicted about it, but I’ll try to post some preferences of mine. Just keep in mind I'm sometimes referring to a specific element, and not necessarily the whole song/video/artist as a template for the AU.
Also I have a very clear preference in vocals esp female vocals don't laugh at it XD
The element of a cross between traditional music & rock:
youtube
(first one got overall yllz & hgj vibes imo)
youtube
(this has the Gayageom, a Korean zither, player slashing off the zither's cords mid-performance which I imagine is a very rock thing for hgj to do)
youtube
the angst of this song and its poetic lyrics:
youtube
(I imagine lwj's songwriting would be sth moody and poetic like this one. Also the guitar riff and the bass in this song is beautiful)
if wwx writes songs it'll be sth like these (dirty guitar, dirty lyrics):
youtube
youtube
youtube
youtube
(overall more upbeat songs with full-on sexual innuendos, and no one will ever imagine he's a virgin) (also, unrelated but I love the all-white get up in the third song. HGJ plz only you can rock that)
Sorry this was a lot lol. I have regional preferences towards korean/japanese/english-speaking areas in terms of music so that is where I'm drawing my references from.
