my friend harmony is a disabled trans lesbian who was recently kicked out twice by transphobic relatives and friends . she’s been applying for jobs but she hasn’t had any luck yet . she currently has no source of income and nowhere to rest her head at night except her car , and it’s been below freezing where she lives .
this is ongoing and will be ongoing until further notice – she needs money to eat , to fill her car with gas , and to rent a hotel room . even a few dollars would help her so much at this point . if you can’t help monetarily , please please boost this post !! i am so worried about her , this has been going on for over a month and she isn’t doing well ]:

Meeting another country guy who's still pretending that he's a girl to his friends and family. Still putting on his girl clothes, using the stupid name he was given at birth. I get it; his family is a piece of shit. They probably wouldn't take him seriously. Hell, he hasn't even told me yet; I can just tell by the way he acts, by the things he's said to me under his breath, by the way he gives my body jealous glances, by all the questions about hormone replacement and top surgery he's asked. I know he wants to be a man like me. I can tell.
So, I started calling him a good boy. Gave him a shortened version of his girl name that's more masculine. Let him borrow my clothes. Let him keep some. 'Accidentally' slipped one of my old binders into the box of old shirts and pants I was letting him take. Bought him a more masculine set of bath products for Christmas. Left the contact info for my endocrinologist on the counter while he was over. Making sure to compliment him on his muscles, his body hair, encouraging him to stop shaving because it's stupid for anyone to do it.
Noticing how much happier he's been lately. How much flatter his chest inexplicably seems.
I mention one day after going over to his place that his parents are such assholes. That I wouldn't mind letting him stay at my place if they ever got to be too much.
It only takes a few weeks for him to come to me with a new name, a new set of pronouns, asking to stay at my place while he figures things out, starts the process of medically transitioning.
I'm just happy to see him being himself. I'm happy to see him happy.
Gonna help this boy learn to be a man. Gonna learn him a thing or two about being like me.

Note from an angry trans man.
Of course, I’m angry. Who wouldn’t be. Dead children, dead teachers, a trans man to blame and the world ready to blame every single one of us instead of a single person -- instead of mental illness -- instead of guns -- instead of all the horrors that surround us. Eager to blame our HRT, our transitioning, our existence. Trans sisters who should be standing up against the abuse and shame put on their brothers – who instead decide to reject us, to blame us for anti-trans legislation, to group us all with Aiden Hale. To further stigmatize testosterone and trans-manhood. To act as though we are the harbinger of doom.
Of course, I’m angry. Dead trans people fill the news and wiki articles. Trans men among the corpses, but we don’t say their names. The bodies of FTM children left on the road, genitals mutilated, and newspapers printed with the wrong name and pronouns. Misgendered in death. Misgendered in rape, assault, and murder statistics. Misgendered in the publication of his horrific crime.
Of course, I’m angry. One of my brothers killed six people – three children and three adults. “Police then killed 28-year-old shooter Audrey Aiden Hale, who investigators said left behind a manifesto and detailed maps about how to carry out the attack. Law enforcement officials have not shared details about a suspected motive.”
Of course, I’m angry. The Nashville shooting was the 128th US mass shooting this year. There were 127 other mass shootings this year (and it’s only the end of March), most of which we did not talk about, most of which we did not address. More than 348,000 students have experienced gun violence at school since Columbine. There has been 89 school shooting incidents in the USA so far in 2023.
I want to rip something apart with my hands. I want to scream. I want to bleed. There is rage in my body, and it’s locked away behind tears and prayers. I consider cutting for the first time in over a year. I think about drinking myself to death or blowing my brains out in protest, but I don’t want to leave my cat alone, I don’t want my friends to cry about me, or to leave my lover heart-broken. I don’t want to be another dead trans man. I don’t want to be another name on the list of FTMs that have killed themselves. I’m already a part of the 50% of the FTM population who has tried at least once, I don’t want to try again. More than that, I don’t want my deadname to be the name I die with. I don't want to be seen as a dead woman.
I watch people die every day. I fear the deaths of my grade-school siblings. I fear the death of my loved ones. I fear walking into a gay bar and being carried out in a body bag.
Of course, I’m angry. It must be the testosterone.

I think the biggest issue with Naoto discussion is that there are so many intersecting perspectives with very strong feelings involved, and if a Persona 4 remake does happen, I fully suspect that Atlus is going to have their hands full figuring out how to handle the character in the modern day. First there's the cultural context of misogyny in the workplace and especially in the legal and justice systems in Japan, which informs Naoto's character a lot. It is important to consider this, as this was a Japanese game made in 2008 at a time where queer visibility wasn't nearly as prominent, but that alone doesn't invalidate criticism to the arc's execution, regardless of creator intention. A big point of contention is how the arc was handled. Specifically the way it uses talk of body alteration procedures, surgical equipment, and treats the idea of transition as scary. If you consider how draconian the laws behind legally transitioning in Japan are, you can perhaps make a case for why it might cause Naoto internal conflict as complete surgical transition/sterilization/diagnosis were all requirements at the time of the game's development and only recently were declared unconstitutional. Though, as this excellent video pointed out, it's possible this was meant to be a reference to the story Flowers for Algernon, given the weapon you get if you return there later. However, even if that was the intent, transgender people exist in Japan and have since well before Persona 4, and anime such as The Dirty Pair aired in the 80's with very progressive takes on transness. It's very unlikely that the team behind Persona 4 was completely unaware of queer issues and symbolism, given that Persona 3 had that infamous transphobic joke in the original version's babe hunt.
Tumblr media
The Dirty Pair, a 1985 anime that was surprisingly progressive.
I think the issue, more than anything, is that the tropes at play don't exist in a vacuum and what comes after Naoto's dungeon raises a lot more red flags. Jokes about Naoto's chest size, the narrative framing Kanji's crush as only acceptable after the reveal, on top of the uncomfortable execution of the romance route in Naoto's Social Link. You get so much "Naoto is actually a girl" in a way where it's other characters talking about/over Naoto, which is what really makes the framing off putting to a lot of people, myself included. And it's not even that you can't do an arc about a female character fighting against prejudiced preconceptions in the criminal justice field without controversy, because Persona 5 pulled this off far less contentiously.
Sae Niijima deals with many similar themes but doesn't seem nearly as contentious, and I think a large part of that is due to Sae openly presenting as a woman from the start. The game openly depicts the misogyny from Sae's superiors and coworkers, such as how she's unmarried and fighting an uphill battle for success in a male-dominated field. Persona has toyed with these ideas in the aftermath of Persona 4 and even when revisiting older titles. Persona 2 went back and added the character of Shiori Miyashiro in the PSP release, a lady detective who has a lot in common with Naoto (e.g. knowingly endangering oneself to get the truth behind a supernatural case). It's also astonishing that we have Lala Escargot in Persona 5, which also had that infamous gay couple that played into horrible stereotypes that were only slightly fixed in royal's international release. Lala, whether trans or a drag queen, is given surprising respect, and her identity is never called into question. A Persona 4 remake could learn from this and cut back on the characters asserting what Naoto feels, what Naoto "really is," etc, and let Naoto and Naoto alone decide. Ultimately, Naoto means different things to different people, and these things can carry great personal weight and importance. Many trans and nonbinary Persona fans see themselves in Naoto. Others favor Naoto as some flavor of gnc or find Naoto embracing femininity and detective work empowering. I think the problem is that when this topic comes up, there's a lot of hostility. Trans fans and people who favor trans Naoto get told to shut up at best, and at worst get hit with shit tons of transphobia and gross conduct. On the other hand, I don't think people who prefer more canon-compliant depictions of Naoto are inherently malicious. It's how they approach these discussions and treat people that makes a difference. Just because someone uses she/her for Naoto doesn't mean they're being intentionally transphobic, but I totally get people wanting to avoid material that uses those pronouns all the same. I also don't think people are wrong to be uncomfortable with the resolution of Naoto's arc in canon. I think people who get upset when fanworks go with trans or NB interpretations of Naoto could stand to be more empathetic, as a lot of those fanworks come from people who connected to Naoto and want to explore what could've been. I don't think more canon-compliant fanworks are inherently malicious either, but no one is obligated to stick around works or spaces that make them feel uncomfortable. Tbh, I'm just wondering what Atlus will do. Persona 3 Reload removed that one transphobic joke during the babe hunt in all languages. Persona 5 Tactica had male marriage fantasies for Joker. I think Atlus is trying to be more inclusive, but Persona 3 Reload also kept Toriumi's crush on the protagonist and Chihiro defending student-teacher romances, so it's really unclear how much of Persona 4's more divisive aspects will be retooled. Because it's not just Naoto. Persona 4 has a lot of aspects that haven't aged well, like all the jokes about Kanji being predatory if he's attracted to guys, or Kashiwagi being creepy toward students, or the fatphobia with Hanako while Ebihara's past of being overweight is treated with more sympathy. I love Naoto and Persona 4, but I also think it's important to be able to criticize elements of the game that could be executed better.

have a tradie!141 thing that i wrote straight into my tumblr drafts to feel a rush of adrenaline.
tags/warnings: brief allusions to past transphobia (non explicit), food mention, smoking.
pairing: none
characters: kyle "gaz" garrick, john "soap" mactavish, simon "ghost" riley, john price, transmasc!reader.
summary: you're the new guy on site figuring out where you fit with your new work crew Tradie Force 141.
--
"not to be rude, but aren't you a bit old to be an apprentice?"
it's a phrase that's haunted you for the last year on every job site you've ever been on with your previous company. you're aware that you're at least 10 years older than the other apprentices on site at the best of times but there's no easy way to explain why you're such a late bloomer. not that you'll be spilling your guts to any of the blokes you work with. you'd learned that lesson early on.
you won't lie, you're a bit disappointed that even after joining Tradie Force 141 you're still getting asked that question so you flash a tight smile at the handsome plasterer - kyle - and mutter something about being a late bloomer around the mouthful of sandwich you're eating on your break.
"sorry mate, i don't mean it like that. 's just usually our apprentices are a bit younger than you. proper wet behind the ears y'know? can't find the business end of a trowel and all that." kyle explains before taking a slurp out of his mug of tea.
"aye, they're deid keen an' aw. practically jizz their wee pants when they see their first wage packet." johnny adds with a chuckle from where he's sprawled on one of the three uncomfortable chairs around the tiny table. "i know i definitely did when i was 16."
"mate, you still do!" kyle laughs "oi! mind my tea!"
you shake your head as kyle nimbly dodges johnny's poorly thrown empty bottle saving his tea from spilling on the grimy lino of the portakabin price had designated as the break room for the site.
"i'm gonna go see what price wants." you say after you swallow your last bite and chuck your rubbish in the bin next to you.
"aye, nae bother."
"see you in a bit mate."
you step out of the relative cool of the cabin and you pull your hi-vis over your shoulders so you can quite literally follow your nose to search out either price or simon where you know they'll be smoking near the site manager's office.
"reckon the lad needs a proper nickname, ye ken?" you hear johnny say before the door swings shut behind you. you try ignore the way your stomach lurches as you recall some of the more awful nicknames you'd endured before joining this crew as you cross the flattened dirt to join the pair huddled around a sand filled bucket.
"olright?"
simon's the first to greet you as price has his mobile jammed up to his ear and he's scowling at whatever the poor sod at the end of the phone is saying.
you nod in greeting and price rolls his eyes and mouths "twat" before humming briefly to show he's still listening to his phone call. simon offers you his half smoked cigarette and you shake your head to decline.
"suit y'self." simon says with a shrug before taking a last drag and flicking the still lit cigarette into the bucket of butts. "gonna take a slash." he announces before wandering around the corner of the portakabin that houses price's office.
you fiddle on your phone watching kyle's new tiktok he posted on the Tradie Force account while you wait for price to wrap up his phone call. it takes a few minutes before price's voice interrupts your endless scrolling, who knew reading all the thirsty comments would be so entertaining.
"need something?" price asks around a cigarette, his shrewd blue gaze watching as you scuff the toe of your steel toes on the ground.
"just want to know where you want me next." you shrug casually making sure to shove your phone back in the pocket of your trousers.
"is that right?" price sounds amused and you enjoy the way his eyes crinkle briefly before his phone starts ringing again and he groans. "fucks sake. go find simon while i take this, there's a good lad."
you nod at him and tamp down on a grin as you hear him answer with an exasperated "what now?! can't a man have a fucking cigarette in peace?!" as you turn away to start hunting down the resident plumber.

Idk where ppl are getting off thinking "zippertits" is feminist praxis cause it's pretty well established that if someone wants to get surgery *for themselves* outside of pressure to conform to patriarchal (unattainable) beauty standards its their body, their choice, and shouldn't be shamed (nor should they be shamed in general regardless).
"Zippertits" How in your head do you have to be to forget breast cancer awareness or were you even in discussions about supporting people who remove their tits or have them removed and get implants later? Were you there for the discussions about how women are shamed for doing ANY alteration to their bodies no matter the reason and that we should support their choice to do so while not conflating personal choice with coercive abuse?
Yeah this particular insult's directed at ppl assumed female at birth (more specifically nonbinary ppl, trans mascs and trans men) and it's so fucking tone deaf? Its giving patriarchy. Its giving "you ruined your natural ~feminine~ body and need shamed for your transgression (which is a decision you made to live and/or to live comfortably)".

Princess tutu did what h*rry p*tter fucking wished it could do like how is it fakir’s nameless faceless parents are somehow infinitely more compelling to me than hp’s tragic fridged parents who the story never shut up about?? Like their love saved him and now he’s the Special Boy whatever fuck off, now my boy fakir he doesn’t get special magic protection actually he’s destined to die young AND THEY GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR HIM ANYWAYS. I’m so upset over these people who were mentioned like four times ever and they don’t even have FACES. Imagine being loved so so much that you’re able to take fate into your own hands and reverse your inevitable tragedy. But like. With good writing

Can you believe this? So a friend of Ang (the disabled queer artist who got blacklisted in the animation industry over cartoons) has posted an update that Ang is still there but Ang’s chronic illness has progressed and Ang is still in end of life care
one of her tormentors, a white racist woman, came back to Twitter like “see see I was right! She’s not dead yet! Oh I’m so traumatized by this revelation that I’m going to be institutionalized!”
and her white followers all circlejerk around her, pat her on her back despite her openly sharing murder fantasies about Ang / other people AND she repeatedly said the n word and t slur
worse yet she behaves like someone who’d post on Kiwifarms. She even mocked Ang’s appearance and used an anti trans meme. Her followers also put “murderer” in their bio, like they treat the situation with Ang like a game
these people are evil

i feel like wayyyy too many ppl think of transmisogyny as a ~special word~ just for trans women, and is why they then try to make up a ~special word~ for trans men
transmisogyny is simply the combined oppression of women and trans ppl. women are oppressed on the basis that they are women. trans ppl are oppressed on the basis that they are transgender. it’s similar to why the word misogynoir exists.
obviously, when one person is a part of multiple minorities, the bigotry that they face from both/all sides combine in incredibly nasty ways.
there is no ‘special‘ word like this for trans men not because they don’t face specific forms of transphobia(obviously they do), but because men are not oppressed solely on the basis that they are men. a point i see a lot in these discussions is ‘but men of color are oppressed!!‘ and the answer is yes, they are, because they are people of color. the word you are looking for for the oppression that moc face already exists. you’re thinking of racism.
not even the majority of terfs truly believe ‘CIS men bad,‘ when they say things like that they undeniably just mean trans women. terfs will absolutely not hesitate to buddy up with transmisogynistic men as long as they hype up their egos. similarly, they will side with fash men for their transmisogynistic views AND their eurocentric(read: racist) beauty standards, because the two go hand-in-hand, believe it or not
again. trans men are oppressed because they are transgender. not because they are specifically men. men are not oppressed on the sole basis that they are men. the word to use is still transphobia, because the oppression they face is because they are trans.

remaking this post bc it was losing traction + my friend still needs help to survive
harmony was recently kicked out ( twice ) by transphobic relatives and friends . she currently has no source of income and nowhere to sleep except her car . it’s been below freezing outside recently and i’m extremely worried about her well being .
this is an ongoing situation until harmony can find a job / finds a stable place to live . she needs money to feed herself and gas up her car at the very least , but would prefer to sleep in a hotel room if she reaches enough donations for that . if you could spare even a few dollars , it would mean the world ! if you can’t help monetarily , please reblog this post and spread the word !! thank you so much for reading
p-yp-l - c-sh-pp - v-nmo
edit 01/15/2024: please do not send any more money through c-sh-pp-- her driver's license has her deadname on it , so c-sh-pp won't let her verify her identity and is automatically rejecting all payments +++ she made a venmo !!! please spread this post around , it has dropped into negative temperatures where harmony lives and she desperately needs a hotel room

headcanon that the port mafia is one of the least transphobic (and by extension, homophobic) workplaces to ever exist simply because dazai being trans was basically an open secret due to him transitioning whilst in the mafia
someone wants to say something transphobic? dude that's the demon prodigy dude shut up you're going to get us all killed.
dazai himself doesn't care too much about about being misgendered or having transphobic comments directed towards him — if it wasn't for chuuya, oda, and ango he probably wouldn't have cared enough to transition in the first place — if it wasn't for oda's immediate support at dazai briefly humming that he may just be a man instead of a tomboy and ango taking him out to buy a suit that would hide his chest better and for the temptation of being able to tease chuuya over being better at being a man than his dog despite not even being born one. however, most of the port mafia doesn't realize how little dazai cares about it — especially considering how much the people surrounding dazai care about it.
someone makes a comment about the demon prodigy and his Weird medication around chuuya not realizing he was nearby (or that he'd care that much — doesn't he talk about hating him????) and they wake up a couple of months later after a near death experience where most of the bones in their body were crushed.
on a mission a PM grunt whispers a weird comment about dazai pretending to be something he isn't thinking that they couldn't be heard — only for akutagawa to slit their throat a second later and be subjected to dazai's punishment for killing one of their own without "reason".
someone tries to start speculating on why mori's letting dazai "destroy her body with that medication" and a second later finds gin with a knife to their throat.
hell they weren't even safe around a mere errand boy — as one time when someone started a conversation about how the demon prodigy was a demon for more than one reason the man who was simply there to dispose of some duds somehow managed to knock everyone out in seconds.
nobody wants to suffer the wrath of the demon prodigy or the people surrounding him — so the port mafia learns to adjust and stop giving a shit about these sorts of topics.
and when a couple of years later speculation of chuuya nakahara's sexuality starts because of the way he talks about osamu dazai despite him being a traitor — well, the lower port mafia grunts decide very quickly after seeing what kouyou will do to those that mention it that perhaps they should drop that topic

So I'm playing the PS4 Spiderman game and I realise.
Holy shit J.Jonah Jameson or whatever is. Like. Literally showing us how radicalisation happens, right???
Like. At the beginning of the game, you hear his radio 'SPIDERMAN IS BAD' things and you also hear the callers disagreeing with him, and you go 'haha yeah spiderman's good lmao! It would be so silly for people to think otherwise'
But then, as the game progresses, callers start... Agreeing with Jameson. People start liking Spiderman less. And it's because Jameson keys into the trauma of, y'know, The Events Of The Game and give them someone to blame - Spiderman!
And the thing is. Nobody is suddenly as radical as Jameson. It's all tame opinions that slowly get worse as Jameson fuels into them.
I dunno, it reminded me how in real life this kind of thing is happening with transgender people. And has happened with muslims around 9/11 especially. And is basically happening with like... Every oppressed community.
It's just. Such a good commentary to make in such a subtle way. And it works because we are Spiderman, we know we've been doing our best, so WE feel targeted. I feel like maybed it's a beautiful way to comment on it.
