Rain sat on the raggedy carpet in the House's living room, tracing lines through the fabric of the carpet mindlessly. The house was dark and the only light present was the moon light that came through the various windows around.

Rain hummed as they traced lines, watching their finger with no real thought. They looked up at their finger for a second to glance around, always paranoid as they had been taught to be, before catching a glimpse of a dusty photo on the fireplace and quickly looking down.

It was an old photo, cracked from when it fell multiple times and dusty from sitting on the shelf untouched for so long. The picture inside showed a younger Rain, back when their companion Karlee had taken them in. It showed in the way Rain smiled, still in the clothes they had made for themselves, and the way light still sparkled in their uncovered eyes. As a 6 year old who was born over an ocean, they hadn't had a concept of stranger danger and when Karlee had offered them help, Rain took it without any suspicion in their mind.

Rain scoffed, bringing themselves back to the present. What a fool they were, so blindly trusting someone who obviously didn't care for them. Karlee had just wanted to use them for her own personal gain. She wanted someone to teach not a sibling or child to take care of. Their younger self was a fool for believing they could be her family when she never wanted one.

Rain looked around at the empty, abandoned house that they sat in, devoid of all life except for them and a couple plants that Karlee had let them keep indoors rather than outside in the garden. Karlee had left a while ago suddenly, but Rain had been used to that and didn't think anything of it until she never came back. At first, they had been worried but by the time the first week passed, they had got that they had been abandoned, although they didn't know why. Why would Karlee suddenly give up on 6 years of work? Did Rain simply become too much of a bother to try and fix?

Were they a broken tool as she had said?

Rain sighed, looking down at their finger again, the 12 year old hopelessly bored in the abandoned house by themselves. They had always been bored when Karlee went out, as she often did, but usually the trips weren't long and she would spend time with them when they got back, doing whatever Karlee wanted to do. She had a lot of hobbies, besides her occupation of thievery, but one of the ones Rain remembered best was singing.

Rain cleared their throat, breaking the silence of the empty house, and softly began to sing-

"Welcome to my world, that's painted with sadness.

There's no light of sun, here you can't hear any sound at all"

They waved their hands through the moon as the sang, their voice echoing a bit in the empty house.

"Here I'm waiting silently for you, Mama.

Why were you so cruel? Why'd you leave me alone?"

Rain looked at the broken photo frame and their Mama's happy face before looking down, tears starting to well in their eyes just thinking about her. They hummed some quiet "la la la"'s into the silence, trying to calm themselves but failing to do so as they looked at the picture again.

"Please take me away, I desperately promise to be a good kid, to be worthy of your love.

I don't need the sketchbooks, the flowers and the teachings.

Just tell me why you've left your pictures and gone..." they sang-pleaded at the picture tearfully, trying not to break down more than they already were.

"I never asked for this place that's called 'Our Home' but I hoped you'd be staying with me until the end."

Rain looked down again, anger starting to mix with the sadness. How dare she leave them like that? This was their "home", both of them. She was supposed to care for them and she left! She promised to give them a home with her and she left! It isn't fair, Rain thought bitterly.

"I just want to be with you to forget my sorrow," Rain told the picture numbly, their tone tired and quieter than they had been before.

"I'm tired of being the puppet of this world..." they sang as they remembered how most of their life had not been their choice. Getting separated from their sibling, of whom they didn't even learned their name before they were swept away, the shore taking them to a forest where they learned to survive from campers, Karlee taking them in and training them, and finally now, being left alone like a doll that no one wants. They've always had little choice in their life, especially after Karlee took them in. They laughed bitterly, they really were a puppet.

"My tears are falling, why is it so painful?

I did nothing wrong, so why do you hate me so much?" Rain sang as they got up, glaring at the picture and taking it over to the kitchen table to put down. In a dissociated state, they quickly packed up their necessary things in a duffle bag that Karlee hadn't taken. Clothes, medical supplies, and food that Rain put in bags to keep them clean. From the necessities, Rain put any other items they needed in a bag that they had stolen one time when they had been allowed out. The sketchbooks Karlee had stolen for them, some flower seeds, a necklace Rain had stolen and successfully hidden from Karlee, and a few other nicknacks they had stolen. Rain grabbed their sword which lay by the back down and put it in its sheath on their hip, tugging the belt it was attached to briefly to make sure it was secure.

Once they were done packing, Rain went back to the photo which still lay on the kitchen table. They walked slowly over to one of the kitchen drawers and opened it, taking the match box they remembered Karlee putting in there before closing the drawer. Rain walked over and took the photo carefully from the broken frame and walked towards the door, one hand holding the picture and the other holding the max box. Rain opened the door and breathed fresh air for the first time in months since Karlee left and looked at the forest that surrounded the House, crickets chirping in the otherwise silent night. Rain looked back at the inside of the House, and before they could think twice, lit a match and held it up to the photo, which caught fire quickly. Rain quickly threw it onto the floor of the House, which caught fire soon after as the whole thing was made of wood, and ran out the door towards the woods.

Once they felt they got far enough away, they smiled even though tears were again welling in their eyes. Rain sang softly as they slowly walked, going to find a home for the first time in their life. Behind them, old memories burned as the House quickly became enveloped in flames.

"Welcome to her world that's lying in ashes.

There's a sea of fire, there is no way to run at all.

I only wanted to be with my Mama but little Rain is melting in their abyss, alone."

jason had just settled onto his couch with a jane austen novel and his favourite peach iced tea when damian crept in through his window. he sighed internally and decided to simply ignore him. he had told damian to use the front door (nevermind the fact that jason rarely used the door) and more importantly? he was freaking comfortable. after a few minutes as jason flipped idly through the book, damian cleared his throat. jason sighed again, outwardly this time and reluctantly dragged his eyes up to his youngest brother. baby bat was shivering slightly from the rain outside and jason simply rasied an eyebrow as he sipped at his tea. scowling, dami stomped over to jasons bathroom to dry off. he rolled his eyes. how dramatic. damian was acting like he sentenced titus and alfred the cat to their deaths instead of how he was actually saving jason from deep cleaning his rain soaked carpet. (he was still going to deep clean the carpet the next time he tidied up but still)

when damian stalked back into the room, looking less like a wet, angry kitten and more like a dry, angry kitten, jason titled his head back and established eye contact.

"so what brings you over to my neck of the woods, demon spawn?"

instead of snapping back like jason expected, damian simply stood there looking extremely uncomfortable. he shuffled his feet, opened his mouth then closed it and sat next to jason on the couch he splurged way too much on.

"i don't know how to tell you this" dami began, hesitant "but i believe harper is experiencing thoughts of suicide"

jason jerked up, almost knocking over his tea (and what a damn waste that would be) before fixing damian with a look. he hadnt noticed anything different in roy lately but he knew more than anyone that depression acted strangely and was hard to pinpoint. his mind raced with thoughts of why roy might be suddenly suicidal, from a sudden relapse to not getting a happy meal toy included in his 3.99 box of clogged arteries. "why do you say that, damian?"

"i have been keeping an eye on his health since he became a close confidant to you and last night he said something worrying that i am still not able to parse the meaning of" jason smiled lightly at that, in damian speak he was basically declaring that he cared for roy- if for nothing else than for how happy he made jason. still he shook it off and asked what roy had said that was worrying dami.

"he was patrolling last night" jason knew that. roy had been picking up his patrols since jason had a nasty leg wound. it was the reason he wasn't out tonight. "and he was on the phone with an unknown person, though i am inclined to believe it was either Starfire or Canary" okay, still not surprising "and then he said that the only place he could die happy was between your thighs" oh hello blue screen. yes jasons mind was in the middle of rebooting but could you hurry it along? he almost missed what damian said next. "not only does he wish for death upon himself, he wishes for you to give it to him!"

"hey dames, dick wanted you to join him by the docks when you finished up here" damian scowled "cant you see i am clearly not finished yet"

"hah, well dick was facing up against scarecrow and i think he needed some back up but you know him"

"yes, he wont admit he needs help when he very clearly does" damian sighed "very well, ill go check on dick. you stay and question jason. " and with that damian clambered out the window and after he disappeared from sight, jason threw his head back to stare at his ceiling and groaned. duke laughed at him.

"hey daisy duke?" duke grumbled at the nickname and jason cracked a smile "how did you know i needed back up?" duke winced and ran a hand over his dreads. he made a face and jasons soul was slowly draining out of his body. "oh haha funny story" duke rocked back on his feet and faked laughed "damians com was still connected to the channel" jason froze.

"who was on the channel oh my god" duke smiled thinly and his hand paused on his head. "other than me? everyone." jason buried his head in his hands and let out a high pitched whine. duke consolingly rubbed his shoulder. this is why jason loved him. he hadn't even laughed at jason like tim, dick or steph would or started plotting death like damian started to. he and cass would just offer support. jasons favorite brother and sister right here folks. duke sat down beside him

bruce smiled "that was before i knew you two were dating. roy needs to know what hes getting into" jason leaned back enough to stare into bruces eyes and weakly punched him in the chest "dont threaten my boyfriend. he refused to look at me for two weeks after t was done with him" bruce sighed longingly "its times like this when i remember what caused me to love talia in the first place."

"bruce!" the aforementioned man laughed and hugged jason tightly before stepping back a few steps. "Sunday dinner. you and roy. 8 pm." on a whim jason reached out and snagged bruces hand. "hey" he started, swallowing "you wanna stay for a while? we could watch a movie or something" bruces eyes softened and he nodded. "let me change out of the suit."

and if roy had crept in after patrol only to see jason napping on his dads chest to a shitty action movie playing in the background and took several pictures, well that bruces fault for not waking up when roy stumbled it. (nevermind the fact that bruce had every single one of those pictures saved on his phone) (nevermind the fact that after roy put his phone away, he was greeted to the sight of batman glaring at him as he twisted a batarang around his fingers. it was sorta ruined by the fact that jasons curls was hiding the lower half of his face but roy was still adequately terrified)

Seeing how Kaz is making rash decisions is not so out of character as, again, he is younger here than in the books so him putting the crow club up as collateral for Inej makes sense. Could be how, in the future, after this adventure he ends up working for Haskell. I do love them working out the kinks of their crew though, learnign to trust the other and that though they believe in other things, doesn't mean they can't work together. Though, I will say, Kaz had a slight point that this job may not have been the best one for Inej if she was going to let her faith lead the way. complicatedddddd. The reunion between Mal and Alina was FAR MORE satisfying than in the books because we've seen BOTH of their journeys to get there, one that was finally set directly towards the other while another was pulled askew but led back in the right direction again. It's more wholsome, satisfying in a sense than it was when reading it as you get a full sense of what both of them are doing, especially Mal. The

realization as well from the Darkling that Alina RAN, Ben depicts him brilliantly. I still hate him SO much as he manipulates everyone around him to gain what he wants, including Zoya which poor thing, but I have to say Ben is kiiiiiilling it for sure.

The casting, seriously, is absolutely perfect for everyone. Which is incredibly rare for book addaptations but fr, they nailed it here.

OUTREACH PART 1:NEPAL

Wow I am sorry that this update is so overdue! Outreach has been absolutely insane. Very busy, very stretching and a overall very new experience. It's been a while since my last actual update so let's back track a little bit. The week before I left in Perth I found out my Grandpa Lea finished his battle with lung cancer and passed away. It was very difficult news to get but I had an amazing family with my class mates in Perth that really helped me through it. I had said good bye before I left Canada knowing it might be the last. It was a long battle for my grandpa but I'm so so happy he is no longer suffering and is now running around heaven with Jesus. About 3 days after I got that news I left Australia to head to Nepal! It was the start to a crazy new adventure! We flew from Australia to Malaysia, spent the night in the airport there (yeah I'm a real world traveller I slept on the ground) and then we headed to Nepal early in the morning the next day. The landscape of Nepal from the plane was absolutely breath taking. It is full of beautiful mountains being home to Everest and the Himalayas. As soon as we landed, to say the least I felt a little bit of culture shock. Here are a few reasons why, 1) in Asia for toilets they use these things called squatees, uhh yeah basically exactly what it sounds like you just squat so yeah that was new 2) Nepal + traffic Rules = does not exist AT ALL 3) It's very busy on the streets where ever you go and wherever you go you're drawing a lot of attention for what you look like (for me that was being a blonde white girl haha). Nepal is located in between China and India so those are its two major influences. It's a very culturally strong and religious country. Being my first time in Asia this was something very very new to me. I definitely had a lot of adjusting to do when we arrived but I was eager to see what God had in store for us all! We went from Kathmandu to Ilam where we would be staying. It was about 14 hour drive on a lot of twisting roads up and down the mountains (yes I puked twice wooooooooo hooooo). In Ilam we were staying at a YWAM base/Christian school. The first week our ministry was done painting the school and helping out where we could along with also playing with the local village kids. For about 3-4 days during the first week I was stuck in bed with a fever and feeling pretty rough. But after a few days I was all good and was able to join up with everyone again. Praise God! As ministry continued we started to do a lot of hiking! Nepal is a fairly small country so most of it is remote and spread out. For us to get to the next village it was usually at least a 1 1/2 hour hike. I learnt something very quickly, I suck at hiking haha BUT THATS OKAY, i kept on pushing. One of my team mates Peyton and I were always happy to take up the back of the group haha. When we would arrive in a village we would do this thing called an open air. Basically it is a time where we gather a group of people and share the gospel with them. We do some skits, sing some songs, usually talk with people if they have any question and pray for people. After an open air we'd often get invited to a house for tea. Now let me tell you, I'm almost positive I drank my body weight in tea at least twice while in Nepal. Every where we went and I mean every where we would have tea. I am not complaining because all of it was usually home made so I was blessed by some really good tea about 5 times a day for a month! Generally our time in Nepal was doing a lot of discipleship with Christians in the country. Although we were expecting something different from Nepal, meeting many Christians in the nation was very encouraging. Nepal is an insanely Hindu/Buddhist country. It took me by surprise since I've only ever really experience catholic or Christian nations. Seeing people stand up for their belief in Jesus was very very encouraging when there was so much going against them. It made me so grateful for where I am from and also my family. It is so common in Nepal for people to be disowned by their families, friends and even from their village when they choose to be a Christian. Those who we met though, despite some experiences and circumstances were very full of joy. When they spoke of the blessing that had come into their lives since they had given it to God, it was very obvious how he had been working. We made amazing relationships with many of our contacts in Nepal as well! Our translator that was always with us is named BM. He was our honorary 10th team member and boy did we love him. He was a Christian who was constantly full of both joy and wisdom. We had the privilege to stay with some students from the school as well. There was a group of 8 students that were going to be travelling to the USA in May to study for a year. They wanted to practice their English so they stayed with us! The girls in my room were 13 and 14. They were both such sweet hearts. It was a huge blessing to get to know them both. As I said before it is very shameful for your family if you become Christian so these girls were Buddhist but also Christians. (Side note the really big issue in Nepal is not that they don't believe in Jesus they do but then they believe in 1000s of other gods as well.) When I asked the girls why they were Buddhist the only reason they had was because their parents were. With that being said it was really amazing to be able to spend time with them talking about Jesus and what their beliefs were. Now that was kind of a general over view of Nepal, here's some of the high lights for me! One day we did a 9 1/2 hour hike (all up hill, I basically died) to a village to visit a new church there. This was probably on of the most difficult things I've ever done, the amazing thing was that I really REALLY had to depend on God for my strength. It was a cool opportunity and experience, defiantly one I'll never forget. Near the end of our time in Nepal we hosted a youth conference with local Pastors and alongside the other Nepal team from my DTS. I loved getting to spend time with the other team and also seeing so many Christian youth come together to learn about God and have a great time! There was about 300 youth that showed up! After the three days of the conference we had three days of bible distribution through out the foot hill of the Himalayas! Again haha really really difficult but also really incredible. Through out our three days of bible distribution we would do about 6-8 hours of hiking a day. In this time I found strength physically and mentally in Jesus like I had never before. The Joy of the Lord had evidently shown up because I was happier than ever through out those days even though I was being pushed harder than ever. For bible distribution what we did was basically take up a back pack full of bible in the language of Nepali and hike everywhere and hand them out to everyone we saw or drop them off at every house. At the end of the month we headed back to Kathmandu before leaving for the Philippines. On our very last day we went and visited an organization called Dinadi. Dinadi was a beautiful organization ran by a Christian family. What they do is employ women from off the streets or who can't easily find work, to knit toques, mittens and scarfs. The work they do it absolutely beautiful. The products are then sold and the women are able to support themselves and their family's. I was very inspired and encouraged by their work. It was a very practical and beautiful way to support the women of Nepal and show Jesus love for them. Well that was Nepal! I've now been in the Philippines for a month and I promise that update will be here soon! Thank you so much for the continual love and support through this journey. Summary:   Hiccup and his friends are called back to Berk for their annual dance festival. They all have to pick someone to dance with and participate this year. Hiccup has to lead the dances and convince Astrid to be his partner but that is easier said than done.

Set during Race to the Edge, RTTE - Hiccstrid 

It was a warm, sunny morning on dragons edge. Not too hot, not too cold. The sky was clear, a slight breeze in the air and no dragon hunter ships in sight. Yep, today was perfect. Well perfect to do work, in Hiccup’s mind, but he decided that the riders could have the day off. They had done some solid work in the past week and they could really do with a break.

He walked to the clubhouse with Toothless trailing closely behind him. He entered to find all of them gathered around the table already eating breakfast.

‘Hey Hiccup,’ Tuff greeted, ‘Heather made breakfast today and it. is. DELICIOUS!’ He said licking his lips.

Hiccup went to a basket, got some fish for Toothless, then walked back to the table.

‘Yeah, smells good’ He answered as he took a seat next to Astrid.

He filled his plate with food and began eating.

‘So Hiccup, what are we doing today?’ Astrid questioned.

He swallowed his mouthful then answered, ‘Uh nothing…'

‘Wait WHAT?!’ They all shouted, genuinely surprised.

‘Yeah you heard me, you can all have the day off and relax.’

‘Oh Yeah!’

‘YES, we can use the boar pit today!’

‘Meatlug and I are going to do some relaxing in our rock garden.’

‘You losers do whatever you want, my beautiful face needs beauty sleep.’

Hiccup smiled, happy to see them like this. Usually they are arguing about one thing or another but it was a pleasure to see them have a normal conversation sometimes.

He turned to astrid, ‘What are you going to do today?’

She thought for a minute, but nothing came to her mind, ‘I don’t really know…’ She replied honestly.

‘Well if you like, you could come with me and Toothless to this new island we just discovered.’

She smiled. A whole day with Hiccup is more than she could ever ask for.

‘I’d love to Hiccup.’ Just as she finished talking, a green Terrible Terror landed on her shoulder, squawking loudly in her ear.

‘Oooh, Terror Mail!’ Fishlegs said excitedly.

She let the dragon perch on her arm as she removed the letter tied to its left leg.

On the front of the letter it had Stoick’s name on it so she handed it to Hiccup without reading it.

He read the letter with a look of disappointment on his face.

“Hiccup, as you should know, next week is our annual dance festival. I want you and all your friends back on Berk for it. Also you are all old enough to dance so you will be participating whether you like it or not. Find a partner and learn to dance.

Hiccup you will be leading the dances so I want you back on Berk at least three days before so I can get you some proper clothes.

And that is an order.

As he finished reading it out to them, they had already began fighting.

‘Puh-lease Fishface, you are never going to find a partner.’ Snotlout mocked.

‘Yeah neither are you Snotty.’ Tuff quipped

‘Guys, guys, break it up,’ Hiccup said, standing between them all. ‘You can spend today finding a dance partner, then tomorrow we’ll all leave for Berk.’

They all head off in their different directions but Astrid remained with him in the clubhouse.

‘So I guess we’ll have to leave that new island trip for another day…’ Hiccup stated.

‘Yeah, it’ll be easier that way and that island isn’t going anywhere, we can go another time.’ She said. ‘I’m gonna go start packing… you should start too’ She smiled and walked out, heading for her hut.

Hiccup did the same but thinking about how to ask Astrid for the dance the whole way.

He spent the whole afternoon trying to muster up the courage to ask her to be his partner.

Finally he decided that he should ask before Snotlout or someone else asked.

He slowly walked up the pathway to her hut. Thinking about what he was going to say when she opened the door. So far he had nothing at all. He started panicking when he realised he was standing right in front of her hut.

Taking a deep breath, Hiccup nervously knocked on her door and waited patiently. He flinched when she opened it but tried to put on a normal face.

‘Uhh, Astrid!’ He blurted out. ‘H-hi Astrid, hi Astrid, H-hi.’

She raised an eyebrow ‘Are you okay Hiccup?’

‘Y-yes I-i’m… f-f-fine!’

‘You’re stuttering’ She started slowly, ‘You haven’t done that in years.’

She eyed him carefully noticing how he stepped back in fear when she came forward.

‘You’re acting like I’m going to kill you, though I must say it is quite amusing.’ She said with a grin.

‘Y-yeah’ He laughed awkwardly ‘I just came to ask…’ He paused, unsure how to ask her without having his head chopped off.

‘Hiccup, just say it, I’m not going to kill you’ She joked, but he took it quite seriously and didn’t believe her.

‘You’re h-holding an a-axe…'

She looked at the weapon and then threw it far out of her reach.

He seemed a tiny bit reassured at that.

‘Seriously Hiccup, what is it that you are soo afraid to ask me?’

‘If I ask, you are going to kill me.’

‘No, I promise I won’t, now you can tell me.’ She said hoping he would trust her. Why in Thor’s name does he think that she would kill him anyway?

He took a deep breath, determined to actually ask this time.

‘Ok….. willyoubemydancingpartner?’ He immediately recoiled away from her, covering his face with his arms, shielding himself from any axes or punches that might be coming his way.

He slowly peered through his fingers when he realised she wasn’t about to kill him. Instead he saw her amusedly smiling at him.

Astrid honestly had no idea why he was soo scared to ask her, but in all honesty she was glad that she wasn’t the one who had to ask him. Now that would have been terrifying.

But here he was, asking her to be his partner for the dance and she couldn’t be happier.

‘Sure Hiccup’ She said, laughing at how surprised he looked at that.

‘Wait, really?!’

‘Yes.’

‘Ok, uh, wow, umm, yeah I’ve got to go now, so uhh bye?’

She laughed, he was still stunned by her response and didn’t know what else to say.

‘Haha, yeah ok bye Hiccup’ She smiled, he really is a dork.

Wow, that could have gone way worse, he thought.

He hurriedly walked down the path back to his hut. Smiling every step of the way.

Hiccup was still unable to believe what just happened. He felt like the luckiest guy Midgard to have Astrid Hofferson as his partner for the dance.

He was about to take the path leading up to his hut when he heard Astrid call him.

‘Hiccup, wait up!’

Oh Thor, its only been two minutes, did she change her mind already?

‘Hey Astrid, whats up?’ He asked.

‘Oh nothing, just wondering if you wanted to go  for a walk, I mean we have the day off don’t we?’

‘Yeah why not’ He smiled.

The began walking with no real destination, just savouring their time together.

‘So…’ Astrid said, breaking the silence, ‘has everyone else picked a partner yet?’

‘I’m pretty sure Heather is going with Fishlegs and Tuffnut is still content on going with chicken’ He said laughing.

She laughed as well.

‘Yeah I’m not sure if Snotlout has convinced Ruff yet.’ She said with a grin.

‘Haha, I doubt he ever will, but it surprises me that he didn’t ask you.’ Hiccup stated in a sort of relieved tone.

‘Oh believe me he did, but only when I pounded him into the ground did he get the message.’ She said laughing.

Silence fell upon them once again. Both of them were smiling as they began walking back towards the huts.
