Vox Machina + Valentine’s Day

Percy De Rolo

Finds the whole holiday rather frivolous.

A whole day just to coo and moon eye at each other? Seems completely wasted.

But, he is a man of tradition. And traditions must be followed.

The obvious choice is jewelry. Something clean and elegant.

Or, if he was getting more in tune with the spirit of the whole thing, a music box. Hand crafted of his own design to play your song.

Vex

Incredibly flirty any other day of the week, so be prepared for it to be ten-fold.

Her mission in life for the day is to tease, taunt, and tempt her lover all day with her wiles.

Of which there are many.

The entire day would be like foreplay. Culminating in an almost violent passion of love making; followed by many other more gentle bouts.

Her gift would be an ornate arrow that she had carved out of one of her bolts, as a symbol of the cupid’s arrow that had struck her heart for you.

Scanlan

Never was a day more made for Scanlan.

Aside from being hopelessly addicted to ‘love’, Valentine’s day is a bard’s bread & butter.

A lot of coin to be made sing sweet songs to love struck couples.

He’d invite you to the inn he was playing at and dedicate a special song to you. One he wrote of course.

The rest of the evening is yours, where he’ll be at your mercy, for all the toe curling fun the two of you can cook up.

Vax

Genuinely forgets about the holiday. But he’s so suave that he plays it off like he hasn’t.

He forgot because he’s terrible with dates & holidays. Not that he doesn’t love you.

Vax thinks about you all the time, so one day out of the year didn’t even register to him.

Rattles off some silver-tongued lie about a surprise he had in store for you. One he is clearly making up as he goes along.

It works out in the end as he led you on some far fetched journey to the top of hill or tower, where he presents you with some night blooming flower he had snatched long the way (like he planned it).

Keyleth

Oh….our poor little turtle duck….

Extremely confident in the planning phase, but looses her nerve as the day comes around and she has to ask you to be her Valentine.

Wastes most of the day running away, or darting around corners, or babbling on as she can’t get her words out.

Eventually, she does. In true Keyleth earnestness.

Gives you a potted plant she grew on her own, and enchanted to always thrive & bloom. Like her feelings for you.

Pike

Happy to just be around you. No matter what day it is.

Pike loves her friends but they can be….a bit much. So a day with just the two of you would be wonderful.

Would like to, for once, do tourist-y things around the town your staying at. She never gets the chance.

Take a break to make a small offering to the Everlight for her loving comfort and her continued protection of you.

Makes a small cake for the two of you to share while you’re out. Grog was the official taste tester.

Grog

Has zero idea what Valentine’s day is.

He doesn’t get it. Doesn’t get what it’s about. Doesn’t get why this is a holiday.

Aren’t you supposed to tell someone you love them all the time? Are you supposed to be around them all the time too if you love ‘em?

Tries to play along, but is really a disaster at stuff like this.

Gives you a big bear hug and takes you out drinking. If your going to celebrate there’s no better way to do it than with ale!

How well does the rest of the team do as petsitters for Trinket? Do they fail a lot or are these guys used to petsitting by now? Does Grog try to feed him ale?

Grog definitely tried to give him ale - once, before Vex all but chewed him out so hard he couldn’t look at her. Other than that if anyone even looks at Trinket he’s got his weapon out.

Scanlan refuses point blank to look after Trinket. He just does not like that bear. At all. For no reason. And the feeling is mutual.

Vax successfully sneaks ale to Trinket and Grog pouts about it. Vax is the second best pet sitter for Trinket, partially because the bear is part of his family but mainly because his sister scares him.

Percy and Trinket have a respect and understanding for each other. Trinket knows to be safe. Percy knows to let him do his thing. Vex loves them both.

Pike is sweet with Trinket but she smells like Scanlan and he is not a fan of that. So she has to bathe before she can look after him.

Then there’s Keyleth. Sweet, loving, Keyleth. I think Trinket has a softness for Keyleth, doing as he’s told the way he does with Vex. Sometimes she becomes a bear and they just sit together, other times she druidcrafts flowers to make into a crown for him.

Vax is also platonically and / or romantically involved with Keyleth

Keyleth is romantically involved with Vex’ahlia and platonically involved with Percy

Vex’ahlia is also platonically involved with Percy (I like Perc’ahlia as a concept but not as much as Perc’ildan so this is the happy medium)

Going a bit into canon, Pike has a crush on Percy but for some reason just never really brought it up, likely content with the general relationship between the members of the group

Pike is platonically involved with Grog and (again, pulling from canon) romantically involved with Scanlan

Scanlan is just fucking interested in everyone. Arguably Vax could be as well, obviously minus his sister.

Grog is just happy to be with his friends, regardless of the dynamics.

Vax — Bisexual disaster through and through.

Vex — Also bisexual, less of a disaster than her brother.

Percy — Distinguished, previously suppressed demi-bisexual learned to embrace his feelings.

Pike — Token straight that is not on thin ice.

Keyleth — Sweet bisexual loves nature and also her partners, mostly fem leaning but has a fondness for her boys too.

Scanlan — LOUD pansexual, loves his friends too much to not constantly make sexual jokes and innuendoes.

A gentle reminder for all critters

Everyone and I mean every single person in the group Vox Machina is QUEER. No one is straight!

Vax’ildan is practically the poster child for bisexual disaster for this whole party. He’s flirted with: Gilmore, Percy, both of the Briarwoods in the incident that earned him the said title bisexual disaster, and Keyleth who became his partner.

Vex’ahlia is probably also bisexual based on encounters with Keyleth and possibly also Zahra.

Keyleth is demi and possibly also bisexual/pansexual based on her encounters with Vex’ahlia.

Percy is bisexual/pansexual. He’s been kissed by both Vex’ahlia and Vax’ildan, and been flirted with by Taryon Darrington which he didn’t mind and the two of them became friends afterwards.

Scanlan is pansexual. He’s been with multiple genders according to campaign and the show. He also flirts with Percy at one point under the effects of a charm effect which could only happen if you were attracted to the gender of the person.

Pike is bisexual/pansexual. According to campaign, she has spent time with women.

Grog probably also falls somewhere under demiromantic or possibly aromantic. He’s not really into romance altogether, but he enjoys sex with people of the opposite gender from him.

Taryon is gay. He has had a prior relationship to a man and confessed to being in love with Percy. He does not care for romantic or sexual relationships with women.

I know it’s been some time since we’ve seen them all during their romantic relationships but they are all queer. And just because most of them ended up in relationships with people of the opposite gender from them does not make them being queer less valid. They are in queer relationships and denying it and saying they’re straight is erasure of the identities each member belongs to.

All his enemies who've faced him and lived to tell the tail will tell you that he is impossible to get his hands on

Who would have thought that Vax would use those skills in love as well

He can always tell when he's being watched, and by none other then the object of his own affections

You have to put in a little bit of work into it though

Just because he's a huge flirt and good at it doesn't mean that he's an easy man to seduce

When you're alone and you think things are going somewhere he will completely change the topic, shattering any chance of a love confession

Flirty jokes are his go to jokes so it's hard to tell when he's being serious with you

Vax is frustrating to say the least but that just makes you want him even more, and once you have him you can wipe that smug smirk off his kissable mouth

Making you jealous was never part of his plan, it was a side effect of him pulling away from you for little too long one night in a very lively inn

People hit on him, and with each one he turned down you grew braver

Taking one last sip of liquid courage you approached him, right as he declined another person's offer to go to their room

A decline was already on his lips when he turned and saw that it was you who asked and you who moved in closer and closer until your lips were on his

Taking someone like him by surprise is quite the feat

Impressed as he is he can tell that you've had a little too much to drink so he takes you back to your room

Well Vax can make it better, by telling you he will finally stop running

You impressed him, so he will no longer be playing games with you, so when you feel like confessing again, not while drunk, he will be waiting with an answer

Being a gentleman is a good way to impress a someone, but you’re used to it so when Percy acts extra gentlemanly you don’t really give it a second thought.

So he improvises by adding more flair to his shots when the team is against an enemy.

Vax

Knives are his specialty, so why not make him look more badass than doing fancy, dangerous moves with them?

Sometimes it gets to the point where he gets cut badly, but, luckily, he always gets extra attention from you when you tend to his wounds.

Scanlan

His voice is music and breathtaking (to him) so he obviously composed songs with a subtle hint about how he feels about you.

Grogg

Grog is widely known for his strength so if he sees anything large or looks heavy, he’ll pick it up when you just happen to be passing by.

“Look what I got!” He’d tell you. Once he’s grabbed your attention, he gives you a grin and starts lifting the item like weights.

Some credit to my lovely partner for giving me accurate info about their specific weapons. As well as a discussion on whether or not you can say Percy or Orthax invented Guns. -Finn

Percy

With anyone else in the party, there's a good chance you may have used a weapon like theirs before. But not Percy and his guns. These are his own inventions, new to Tal'Dorei completely.

They are also powered by exploding gunpowder. He is a little bit worried about letting you handle them.

Hearing a gunshot when he isn't causing it is a deep cause of concern for him, please don't steal his guns, just ask.

Percy will absolutely teach you! It's a chance to have his arms around you as he steadies your aim and stance.

He's a very...specific teacher. You have to make sure he doesn't get too wrapped up in the fine details. Keep him on track with how to shoot and he won't get way into the actual mechanics of the hammer of the gun.

Let him watch you shoot after you get the hang of it. He'll start to understand why you like watching him so much.

Vax

This man owns so many knives. He has a full-out collection of daggers. Hugging him is a dangerous prospect because you never know where one is hiding.

And with all the different daggers, it can't be that hard to steal one or two of them. How could he even notice?

Stealing them proves to be surprisingly hard. He doesn't store many of them, they always seem to be on his person.

But once you manage it, it's quite a lot of fun to handle a truly well-made dagger. In a fantasy world like this, every adventurer has held a dagger, but Vax turns it into an art and his tools reflect that.

They are also insanely sharp. Don't get too cocky with them.

He swipes them out of your hands when he finds you with them, and it's obvious just how experienced he is with handling knives. He can twist and spin them without a glance or a nick.

"Well, well, someone's got sticky fingers, hey love?"

He'll teach you how to throw them accurately and how to spin them without hitting your fingers. He will also tease you while you practice before you get the hang of it.

Scanlan

Scanlan doesn't particularly use a weapon! He's fairly strictly a spellcaster.

That being said, his instruments are likely the next best thing, particularly his lute. And that is his baby, best of luck stealing it.

If you ask him, he'll let you play it and he'll teach you during downtime. He will also serenade you for demonstrations.

He'll be annoyed if you take it without asking though. His music is a source of safety for him as much as a source of joy.

Let him teach you songs around the fire at night and serenade him in return. He won't stop smiling for ages.

Grog

Grog has had some...questionable weapons. Perhaps don't borrow Craven's Edge.

But borrowing his axe or his gauntlets is a world of fun. Even if they might not be well weighted for anyone who isn't as strong as he is.

You will quickly realize how much work goes into swinging his axe and it puts his effortless attacks into a very different light for you.

Grog laughs out loud when he sees you using his weapons, but it's full of fondness and affection.

Even if he isn't exactly academically clever, this is his skill set, he knows how to fight and he does it well. So he's a really good teacher as he corrects your stance and grip.

His teaching method also includes encouraging you to just swing at him, so you'll need a bit of courage and faith that you won't hurt him.

Honestly it’s funny and cute in it’s own way because chances are you’re smaller than him and you can barely hold all of him. But that’s alright, he’ll scoop you up in his arms anyway

Such a cutie and a sweetheart! Of course he returns the gesture, curling more into your side or resting his head on your chest where he hears your heartbeat

Vex’ahlia

Chances are she’ll feel your grip tighten unconsciously around her, only to peek through at your sleeping form. It’s an endearing act from you and she pulls back to sleep with a hand around yours

It’s a bit of an unusual gesture because he’s not one to be a total cuddler, but he’ll allow for this because it’s you and he’s working through what he feels for you
