thinking about how nate proposes to sophie using a fake name that they both know is fake because it's at that point that the name doesn't matter! deep in my heart sophie's real name is a macguffin that represents some ever-elusive "pure" sense of self that doesn't exist, and nate's quest for it mirrors sophie's existential crisis -- both of them think that they can find a "real" version of her underneath all the aliases, but it's not something that's out there, hidden and waiting to be found as much as it's just.... her. and when both of them accept that there's nothing more than just Her, that's when the name stops mattering! nate doesn't know her real name and never will because he doesn't need to! what always gets me about the nate x sophie relationship is that they're both so different and such imperfect people, but they ultimately accept and love that about each other (when he proposes, nate makes a little joke about stealing her an anniversary ring!). and i think knowing sophie's real name is about this promise of perfect union, of perfectly knowing another person, of knowing yourself in a way that's impossible. but their relationship is perfect BECAUSE it's imperfect, and when nate proposes with a fake name it's about loving the imperfect person behind all the different personas. he loves her whether or not he's calling her by her "real" name, whether or not there's some more "real" person to discover behind her many aliases, and in turn sophie learns to be loved by a name that's not her "real" one because she can trust that the person saying it still loves and accepts her as she is!!

Y'all know those lil toy capsule machines at like arcades and pizza places? Eddie would be all over those. The adventure, the mystery, the suspense, the joy of whatever is inside!
Gets one of those temporary heart tattoos? Slaps it on his ass and asks you to help place it as he winks and shakes his behind. Fake mustache? He puts it on and adopts an accent just to make you giggle. You push him away when he tries to kiss you because the fibers are itchy. He immediately rips off the mustache so he can kiss you again.
Sticky hand? He is using it to grab quarters off the table to fling towards him. Slaps the hand against your butt and giggles at the resounding smack it makes. Slinky? He keeps tipping it over the table onto the ground until he forgot it and stepped on it, breaking it instantly.
Little rubber alien head? Sits on the dash of his van. Stickers? Sticks them in your notebooks with doodles and notes. Bouncy ball? Wayne confiscated it after it bounced into his coffee on accident.
But the most recent one?
Two giant eyes connected by a piece of plastic that make a ring. Eyes for a hand puppet. Eddie immediately placed it on his hand and started talking to his hand as if it was another person. Hearing him carry on a conversation in his regular voice, and then a high pitched squeaky voice was fun to watch.
You're showering when you hear a wolf whistle. You turn and two giant googly eyes on a hand is staring back at you. You can see Eddie's shadow through the shower curtain, but he can't actually see you. He moves his hand so it mimes the jaw dropping ," Wowza!"
You giggle as you slap at his hand," Get out!" Eddie bursts into laughter. "Can I join?" Eddie asks, moving his hand in time with his words. "No, you can't." You watch as Eddie's shoulders seem to droop. "But my boyfriend Eddie can." Eddie's hand immediately retracts and you hear the plastic eyes hit the ground followed by the sound of clothes coming off.

things we learn about mulder in s1
he wanted to be an astronaut when he was young, and stayed up all night when he was 14 to watch his hero do a walk in space
he's scared to death of fire because his friend's house burned down when he was a kid
he went to oxford 10 years before the start of s1, where he dated phoebe and they, at the very least, made out on arthur conan doyle's grave (but it's implied they went all the way)
he is a fan of like. all of the sports. i cannot keep up with them all, but he sure can
he had his first case at the age of 28, where an agent died because he wouldn't take a risky shot
(and he remembers everything about the man who died- his kids, their ages, what they do for fun- all of it haunts him)
((he also, at the trial for the man who killed the agent, screamed that he "should die like an animal, you son of a bitch"- so much for cool and composed spooky mulder))
he always falls asleep on his couch to the point where i don't even know if this man has a bed
before being moved to the x-files, he worked for 3 years at the behavioral science unit, where he profiled serial killers
(also literally no one wants him on the x files they just keep him around because he is too dangerous to fire lmao)
he will go out of his way to make any kids involved a case he's assigned to feel comfortable and/or laugh as a break from the Heavy Moments (probably because he remembers being questioned while very young and how awful it felt)
he believes that siblings have a psychic connection (heartbreaking when you remember his sister disappeared when he was 12 and he only has access to the memories due to hypnosis)
he refused to let his parents call him by his first name and only went by "mulder", even as a child
