Also, uh, while the Coordinator is gone, sorry if that earlier question was a bit awkward. I guess I didn't really think about how that might be a bit uncomfortable to answer around her. - Frog

My Morph primer
Since X-Men 97 is drawing in a lot of new fans with varied levels of experience with the original animated series or the comics, I figured I could give a write-up of who Morph is, where they come from, and why you don’t see them in any of the movies or other media.  This is also an excuse for me to write about an obsessive fave, seriously, they are all over my blog. I'm not necessarily an "authority," but I've watched TAS and read the comics, which are the basis for this write-up.
Who is Morph?
Tumblr media
"Wolverine! Fall back!"
Morph is a shapeshifting mutant who was added to the X-Men team in the original X-Men: The Animated Series as a redshirt/sacrificial lamb, to be killed off For Real in order to show that the stakes are really high.  Originally it was actually going to be Thunderbird, a short-lived X-Man who died in the comics just a few issues after he was introduced, and has remained dead for decades.  But creators realized that killing off the only Native American character on a mostly white team was a bad look, and went with Morph instead.  Morph proved surprisingly popular with (mostly child) viewers, and was brought back in the 2nd season as a result.  Morph in TAS was originally presented as male using male pronouns, but I’m gonna use they/them for the character since they are nonbinary in X-Men 97.
(Btw, even Morph's TAS costume shows their redshirt nature, as they are basically wearing a variant of the standard X-Men uniform that different groups have worn, with the Original Five (Angel, Jean, Cyclops, Beast and Iceman) and the New Mutants all wearing something similar. There was a time in the 90's when all the X-Men were wearing this uniform to try to give them a team look, but thankfully that didn't last, the individualized looks are much better. Morph's amazing disappearing reappearing jacket are the only personalized touch in their uniform, and I hope X-Men 97 gives them a costume upgrade after everyone gets used to the new look.)
Morph doesn’t appear in many episodes of TAS, but here are the definitive ones:
Season 1:
Night of the Sentinels Parts 1 and 2: Morph seems to be an established part of the team, a wise-cracking shapeshifter who is so naively overconfident about their mission that they’ve practically got a target painted on their back.  When the mission goes wrong, Morph pushes Wolverine out of the way of Sentinel lasers, and gets blasted all to hell.  Morph’s supposed death (which was meant at the time to be a real death) is sensed by both Jean and Xavier.  Cyclops orders a retreat because the team is getting their asses kicked, abandoning both the (dead) Morph and (alive but injured) Beast, who spends the rest of the season in jail.  Morph is quickly forgotten as a character, BUT the impact of their death is felt throughout the season.  We get Wolverine yelling “This one’s for you, Morph!” while slicing up a Sentinel, and Cyclops in the finale insisting, “I’m not leaving anyone behind!  Not this time!”
Season 2:
Till Death Do Us Part, Parts 1 and 2: Morph returns as a villain, but a sympathetic, brainwashed villain under the control of season Big Bad Mr. Sinister.  Sinister is an evil scientist who likes to fuck around with mutant genetics and is especially obsessed with getting Scott and Jean to fuck, because their child will supposedly be an extremely genetically superior mutant.  After Morph’s “death,” they were taken by Sinister, who revived them and implanted a control device into Morph’s brain that he uses to literally torture Morph into compliance.  Morph seems to have a kind of split personality, which Sinister exacerbates and encourages, shifting between a haggard-looking Evil Morph who wants revenge on the X-Men for abandoning them and cracks jokes while attacking the team, and a normal-looking Good Morph, who doesn’t want to hurt their friends, and is generally scared and confused and having a Bad Time.  If you are wondering about Morph turning into that version of themselves with dark circles around their eyes in X-Men 97 “Fire Made Flesh,” it was a reference back to this:
Tumblr media
Evil Morph lookin' reeeeeaal creepy.
Morph uses their shape-shifting trickery to fake marry Scott and Jean (as the priest), impersonate Xavier and turn the team against each other, until Wolverine identifies them by scent.  The team then chases Morph to Sinister’s lair, where he’s captured a honey-mooning Scott and Jean.  Morph has been struggling with the brainwashing the entire time, and breaks free long enough to attack Sinister, then runs off away from everyone.
Whatever It Takes: Wolverine, who has declared the Morph is “the only one who could ever make him laugh,” chases Morph down to Brazil in an attempt to drag them back to the team.  Morph, still fighting their dark side and flipping back and forth between the two personalities, taunts Wolverine in Jean’s form, fights him, and eventually gains enough control to tell Logan to back off. (“I have to get through this by myself!”)
Tumblr media
Fighting your friend in an abandoned mine shaft, a totally normal thing to do.
Wolverine reluctantly lets them go.  This the B-plot, the main plot of the episode features Storm and Rogue confronting the Shadow King in Africa, and is also really good.
Reunion Parts 1 and 2: Morph leaves a message for Wolverine stating that he wants to return to the team, in what seems like an obvious set-up for a trap.  Wolverine, Jean and Cyclops go to retrieve them, and find that yes, it is a trap.  Morph attmpts to warn the group to leave, but they are jumped by Sinister and the Nasty Boys, and the fight ends with Jean being taken, and Morph (still struggling against Sinister’s control), going semi-willingly.  The whole team winds up at Sinister’s base in the Savage Land and there are a lot of good character moments, like Gambit telling Rogue he loves her.  Morph spends the whole time still fighting against the brainwashing, but throws it off completely at the end (with Xavier’s help) and turns on Sinister, helping Scott and Jean defeat him.  Morph is then Put on a Bus to Muir Island so that the writers wouldn’t have to deal with the character but could hold them in reserve to use later.  Xavier comments that he can remove Sinister’s mind-control chip from Morph’s brain, but that “removing the psychic damage will take longer.”  So the answer to “Where’s Morph?” in later seasons will always be “Recovering on Muir Island, probably hanging out with Moira and Banshee.”
If you are a Morph fan, Season 2 is THE Morph season, they get a great character arc that fleshes them out, and establishes their close relationship with Wolverine.  I’m glad they didn’t toss out Morph in X-Men 97, both because I like the character, and because Morph’s entire arc in Season 2 was about their struggle to come back to the team, and constantly reaffirms that Morph is one of them, and that they belong with the X-Men.  Also, I know Tumblr love an angsty, suffering blorbo, and good God does Morph suffer in Season 2.
Tumblr media
(Someone is having a Bad Time).
Season 4:
Courage:  After getting only a couple of non-speaking background cameos in Season 3, this is Morph’s comeback episode in Season 4.  Morph believes that they are fully recovered and ready to rejoin the X-Men, while both Moira and Xavier seem to think they are not ready, and warn them to slow down a little.  Morph tries to jump back into their old role, makes jokes, and goes on a mission with Wolverine, but is clearly still dealing with PTSD and completely freezes up when Sentinels attack the mansion and kidnap Xavier.  Morph is left at the mansion while the X-Men go to rescue Xavier, but follows them anyway, and manages to play an instrumental role in stopping the Sentinels and saving Xavier.  Despite this, Morph decides that they are not ready to return and cannot be relied upon in battle (because the writers didn’t want to deal with using the character on the team), and goes back to Muir Island.  It’s a standard “character fucks up at the start of the episode but saves the day in the end” superhero cartoon story, and I was a little disappointed that the episode focused entirely on Morph’s “near death trauma” from the Sentinels and not the much worse “brainwashed and tortured by Sinister to the point of developing a second personality” issue.  The closest we get to addressing that is Morph pointedly walking up to Cyclops with “Scott…been a long time….” which sounds like a way of saying “We’re cool now, bro, I promise I won’t try to kill you.”  Still, we get some great Morph and Wolverine moments, and Morph kicks a lot of ass at the end.  After Morph spends most of the series either dead or suffering, I don’t mind an episode where they get to kick ass. This episode also establishes that Morph was suffering from serious nightmares for awhile, so consider that a canon excuse to put that in your angsty fanfic.
(Morph also gets a non-speaking cameo in Beyond Good and Evil Part 1, sitting next to Jubilee at Scott and Jean’s second wedding.  I think it’s sweet that they were invited, but can also imagine Scott putting them in the front row just to ensure that there are no more “fake priest” shenanigans.  “Let’s put Morph where I can see him….just in case.”)
Season 5:
Graduation Day: After Xavier is attacked, Morph returns to help calm mutants world-wide by impersonating Xavier and making a public call for peace.  Morph doesn’t do much in the episode, but they get an individualized goodbye from Xavier while he is addressing the team one by one, and it is clear at the end that Morph is officially back with the team.  In other words, the writers could give Morph a happy ending of coming back since the show was ending and they didn’t have to deal with it going forward.  Thankfully, the X-Men 97 writers were happy to pick up that ball and continue running with it, and I love what they’ve done with Morph so far!
Were there shippy vibes between Morph and Wolverine in the original series?
I dunno friend, watch “Whatever it Takes,” and “Courage,” and you tell me.  Morph shifting into Jean to taunt Wolverine definitely gives me vibes of “There’s something going on there.”
Is Morph in the comics?
(Note – I’m using he/him for all comics versions of Morph because those versions all apparently ID as male.)
The answer is yes, sort of.
Changeling:
Morph was loosely based on an obscure, long dead shape-shifting mutant from the X-Men’s original 60’s run.  Changeling was a villain with a tacky costume who acted very much like a standard 60’s comic book villain, associated with a terrorist group called Factor Three. Look at this fucking dude:
Tumblr media
At the end of the Factor Three arc, it turns out that Factor Three’s leader, Mutant Master, is an alien who wants to destroy ALL life on Earth to make way for his own people, and the mutants in the group turn on him and help the X-Men. Changeling is the first one to question Mutant Master’s motives, and that’s probably the only interesting thing he does in the whole story.  Several issues later, Xavier supposedly dies while helping defeat a villain named Grotesk and save the world.  This story is retconned near the end of the run, when Xavier is revealed to be alive, and explains that the dead “Xavier” was actually Changeling.  Changeling had discovered that he was terminally ill, and came to Xavier seeking redemption.  Xavier asked Changeling to temporarily take his place as Xavier while he shut himself up in the basement to prepare to stop an alien invasion (and no, the X-Men were not informed of this, besides Jean, and yes, that is really fucked up).  So Changeling became a reformed villain and honorary X-Man who went out in a heroic sacrifice, and was almost never mentioned again.  (Even now Changeling appears to still be dead in the comics, even though the current storyline has allowed ALL the dead mutants to come back.  Even Thunderbird is back.)
Changeling was greatly reworked to become Morph, totally changing his personality and origins.  The only similarities are the shapeshifting powers and physical appearance.  You can see how this guy:
Tumblr media
Became this not-actually-a-guy:
Tumblr media
Or even this version:
Tumblr media
X-Men 97 Morph got a real glow-up to their human form.
Of course, they also share the trait of being a sacrificial lamb plot device, and X-Men TAS creators were originally going to call the character “Changeling,” but changed the name to Morph because DC’s Beast Boy was called Changeling at the time.
Age of Apocalypse Morph:
In the 90’s, there was a cross-over event over all the X-Books called the Age of Apocalypse, in which a time-traveller (Xavier’s son Legion, long story) murdered Xavier in the past before Xavier formed the X-Men, and created a dystopian alternate reality in which Apocalypse had taken over and Magneto led the X-Men.  This was a kind of what-if event that let writers have fun with switching up character relationships, turning good guys bad and bad guys good, and of course, killing a lot of characters off.  The event only lasted about four issues before it was all undone and we returned to the main Marvel universe, so they could really go wild.  In the AoA book Astonishing X-Men, Magneto’s team includes a character called Morph, a versatile shapeshifter with a pasty white made-of-clay look, and a jovial, upbeat personality that is clearly based on TAS Morph.  (This change to character design is where X-Men 97 Morph’s white, featureless appearance comes from).
Tumblr media
Just a silly little guy!
AoA Morph is also stated in the book to have been formerly Changeling, before undergoing a name-change and attitude adjustment, making him an AU variant.  He explains to Sunfire at one point that he never takes anything seriously because fuck it, he’s probably gonna die anyway, he may as well die with a smile on his face.  AoA Morph is pretty cool, he does great shapeshifting tricks, and has some depth and heart beneath the obnoxious jokes.
Exiles Morph:
After Age of Apocalypse, the fan-favorite character Blink (like Morph, another alternate version of a short-lived character in the main comics timeline) gets pulled out of the AoA timeline and placed on a team of time-displaced X-Men.  This team, all coming from alternate realities and including some other minor neglected characters (like versions of Thunderbird and Mimic), is tasked with hopping through realities, putting things right that once went wrong, and hoping each time that the next leap will be their leap home.  The team also includes a version of Morph, who is so similar to AoA Morph that Blink mistakes him initially for her old teammate.  This is another AU variant of Changeling who was never Changeling, but instead was recruited into the New Mutants (a bit of an age retcon for the character, as 60’s Changeling seemed much older, while Exiles Morph is clearly much younger.)  Exiles Morph was a popular hero in his reality, served as both an X-Man and an Avenger, and is an incredibly powerful shapeshifter.  He also winds up being a long-running mainstay of the Exiles team, so this is really the book to read for Morph content.  Exiles also fleshes out the character’s past, stating that he was born as a shapeshifting blob with X-gene already activated, and only assumed a human appearance to fit in with peers.  He also lost his mother to cancer at an early age, and his obnoxious jokey personality was partially a reaction to that, an attempt to both cheer up and get some attention from his grieving father.  Exiles Morph is a great character, my only complaint is that he is a bit of a sex pest, constantly making “jokes” that border on sexual harassment of his female teammates.  I don’t think he’s meant to actually be a creep, he never actually does anything, and when the teammate he has a crush on reveals that she is a lesbian, he steps back and acts as a supportive friend.  I think Exiles Morph just suffers from late 90’s early 2000 writing where the funny jokey character has to be all “LOL, Boobies!” all the time, just so we know he’s straight.  (Funny, given how not-straight X-Men 97 Morph seems to be.)
The Other Morph: Benjamin Deeds:
Brian Michael Bendis, in his Uncanny X-Men run, introduced a new character named Benjamin Deeds who could shapeshift, and looked suspiciously similar to a teenage version of Changeling/TAS Morph.  His personality was different, though (more of a sulky teen trying to deal with being a mutant than a funny guy), and the nature of his powers is different.  Benjamin has what is described as “chameleon-like” shapeshifting, taking on the physical characteristics of people when he gets close to them rather than fully shifting forms.  He also exudes a chemical that makes people automatically like and trust him.  Emma suggests the codename “Morph,” and although Benjamin doesn’t like it, it becomes his official codename going forward.  I don’t think Ben actually has any real connection to Changeling or TAS Morph, he seems more like a legacy character or winking homage, like Pyro II (Simon Lasker, who inexplicably has the same powers and looks almost exactly like original Pyro, St. John Alledyce).  He’s fun character and a cute lil’ guy, though.
There are people who call TAS Morph an “original character” completely invented for the cartoon, and I don’t think they’re entirely wrong.  Morph is VERY different from Changeling,  But to me, it makes the most sense to consider TAS Morph another AU variant of Changeling, given all the influence back and forth between the comics and the cartoon.  Morph was based on Changeling, and Morph’s popularity led to AU versions of Changeling in the comics with TAS Morph’s personality literally named “Morph,” and now X-Men 97 Morph has been redesigned to match AoA/Exiles Morph’s appearance.  They are variations of the same person.  And it’s not exactly the first time that a comics character has been drastically reworked in an adaptation – I’m looking at you, First Class Mystique and Evolution’s “Lance Alvers.”  I wonder if people would still be calling Morph an “original character” if they’d kept the name “Changeling,” since keeping the name seems to be all it takes at times.  Still, TAS Morph is kind of right on the border between OC and “adapted from the comics,” and even I tend to include them in groups of “created for the cartoon” characters like Firestar, Spyke and X-23.
Why is Morph tagged as “Kevin Sydney/Sidney”?
Because that is the character’s name, more or less.  TAS Morph didn’t have a “real name” in 92, because Changeling didn’t (similarly, Rogue also didn’t have a real name because the character hadn’t been given one in the comics.)  In Age of Apocalypse, characters called Morph “Sydney” or “Syd,” and Morph even referred to himself that way in a thought-balloons, but the Exiles writer apparently decided, “Nah, it’s a last name,” and officially named Morph “Kevin Sydney.”  The name stuck, and the 2004 Marvel “Book of the Dead” gave Changeling that name in the entry on him.  Morph’s name has never been given in the cartoon, but it’s probably safe to assume that their official “human name” is Kevin Sydney, just like TAS Rogue is probably Anna Marie (her official name in the comics.)  Interestingly, even in Exiles, the book where the name originated, Morph always goes by “Morph” and never “Kevin.”  Maybe Home Alone ruined the name for him.  I tend to use the Kevin Sydney tags on Tumblr and A03 to differentiate from other uses of the “morph” tag.  In particular, Tumblr has a lot of body modification fetish posts tagged as “morph,” and no offense to the fetishists, you all keep doing what you are doing, but that’s not the content I’m looking for.  I’m sure the fetish people are probably a bit annoyed at their own tag filling up with an X-Men character, but hey, it’s their name.
How old is Morph?  How long were they with the team and when did they join?  Is the featureless white face their “real form”?  What’s their history with Wolverine?
I don’t have answers here because we don’t know.  There’s a lot we don’t know about TAS Morph, and the origins of their comics counterparts don’t really translate well into cartoon continuity.  Like I can’t imagine TAS Morph ever having been a willing member of Factor Three.
Personally, I tend to assume that Morph was with the team for awhile before their “death,” given that they have an established “old friend” relationship with Wolverine and know the team extremely well.  I also tend to assume that TAS Morph is a similar age to the other young adults on the team like Scott and Jean.  They sometimes look older in the original series, because they were based on Changeling (who also looks older), but the voice acting and general personality of the character seem younger, plus Wolverine calls them “kid”a couple of times.  And it seems like their “human form” may not be their “real face” anyway, given that they’ve now defaulted to the white blank-face look.  The white blank-face look IS the real form for Exiles (and presumably AoA) Morph, so the same is probably true for TAS Morph and Changeling.  But this is all just my own headcanon and speculation, based on what I’ve seen in the original cartoon and the comics.  You are all free to come up with your own headcanons fleshing out the character, I’ve already seen great stuff in fanfic out there!
Edit: Actually, I thought of a bit more:
How does Morph shift their clothing? Does Morph even wear clothes? How can they create accessories like Psylocke's swords?
Honestly, I dunno, this is Rule of Cool and Morph as a vehicle for character cameos in affect here. I will say that, in the comics, many characters with shapeshifter-type powers, like Wolfsbane, wear costumes made of unstable molecules that shift with their bodies, the same may be true of Morph. Exiles Morph, when commenting on his female teammates' skimpy costumes, at one point jokes that he "wears even less," so he may just be literally making clothing out of his own body. Although I would think that would get cold, or painful with no protection against the elements.
I assume that Morph does form accessories like Psylocke's swords out of their own body, which also presumably means they can't drop them. I wonder if it would hurt Morph if one of the swords broke? Exile Morph regularly turns his own body into accessories that he can hold (but not separate from his form), so presumably X-Men 97 Morph is doing the same. This is a step-up from TAS Morph, who never did that. Exiles Morph seems to be able to turn their body into whatever they want.
Does Morph copy the powers of other mutants?
Morph seems to be able to mimic only the physical-based powers of other mutants, under the shapeshifter logic of changing their body to give themselves larger muscles, claws, etc. So Angel's wings, but not Cyclops' eye beams. Nightcrawler's tail but not teleportation. In X-Men 97, Morph takes a couple of shots from X-Cutioner after shifting into Colossus, so apparently they can do the whole metal skin thing. But in TAS, when Morph turns into Wolverine, their claws are not adamantium and Wolverine easily slices through them.
I would add that Exiles Morph is also extremely durable, and can literally be ripped to pieces and shapeshift himself back together. This doesn't seem to be the case of "died from Sentinel lasers" TAS Morph, but maybe they just aren't there with their power levels yet. Exiles Morph IS especially susceptible to burns or laser blasts, and almost dies when Hyperion hits him with a beam at close range.
That’s it, hopefully this is helpful for people completely new to the character who got into X-Men 97.  Mostly I just love writing about Morph.  I encourage you to go back and watch the original series, or at least the Morph episodes.  It’s a good show, if a bit 90’s corny, and will let you fully appreciate X-Men 97 (which has been, so far, an absolute banger of a series).  Presumably we’ll see more character development of Morph as the show continues, which will maybe answer some of these questions.

Ayye another transformers blog!! Hello! :D
Could you write a oneshot about Swerve meeting the human liaison? Like they both have similar personality traits and Swerve just freaks out with excitement? Nonbinary reader please so they/them pronouns
HEYY so excited for my first request, hello fellow tf blog :D
jhsdbjc i am so normal about Swerve btw, i love him
Swerve x Human Liaison!reader
Tumblr media
You were beyond excited to be on a giant ship full of Cybertronians, when Rodimus first briefly introduced you to the crew you couldn't help the wide grin on your face as you looked around. Here you were, the first and only human liaison on the Lost Light. A human! And you get to work on a starship! All that studying and overworking yourself back at your organization had been worth it, you think, since it gave you the chance to really see these beings up close. By up close, you meant having to crane your neck up if you weren't on someone's servo.
You were currently on Chromedome's servo as you traveled through the ship's long and extending halls, Rewind was close beside their partner. You were busy answering what seemed like hundreds of questions from Rewind, him claiming it was a "historical and monumental" event that just had to be recorded. You happily answered though, a smile on your face as you went on about your home planet. Suddenly as you all turned the corner, the sound of laughter and talking filled your ears. It wasn't hard to spot the commotion, not at all. Loud voices came from a specific part of the ship. The noises sounded rather... excited? Or rather, one specific voice overpowered all the rest. This piques your curiosity as you gesture that way.
"Wait wait Chromedome, what's over there?!"
"Hm? Oh, this would be Swerve's. And er, that's Swerve over there, the barkeep." Chromedome entered the bustling room, immediately you realized oh, this is a bar. A cybertronian bar. Your wide eyes scan all the different glowing, bubbling beverages with amazement. They looked extremely toxic to your system but tempting, you were ready to ask all about that.
Rewind chuckled. "He's the chatterbox of the Lost Light. Can't get him to shut up- well, you can do it, I have, but he won't stay shut up. I think you'll like him actually."
Swerve was in the bar, doing the only thing he knows how to do: talking and serving drinks. To a group of a few bots in particular. As you neared the front counter, you could finally make out the words they spoke.
"Do you understand how terrifying the concept of infinity is? I mean, it's, like, INFINITE, but then again, what ISN'T infinite, you know? What I'm trying to say is that-" The red minibot suddenly paused as he saw Chromedome and Rewind out of the side of his optics, with a wide grin on his face he opened his mouth to greet them. Then he saw something move on Chromedome's servo, Swerve did a full body double take as he saw you holding onto Chromedome. He's heard all the news about you, sure, but seeing you in person?! That was entirely different. "Wait wait wait wait wait, wait! You're real?! Like- really real- like you're- a human?" He gasped, suddenly running over to the three of you. His exciting nature seemed to only increase yours. You suddenly lurched forward, hanging onto the edge of Chromedome's servo in order to see the mini-bot more clearly. (which almost gave Chromedome a spark-attack)
"Yep yep yep, I'm real and human! I can't believe you're real though, oh my gosh. You have no idea how unbelievable it feels to be working with you guys. It's been less than a day- wait, I think? How do you keep track of time out here?" You hummed, then shook your head, dismissing the thought. Swerve on the other hand was absolutely exhilarated.
"OHMYGODOHMYGOD. You're actually speaking! I've heard all about you! This is incredible. This is wonderful. What an honor, oh- Are you hungry? Thirsty? Do you drink alcohol? Wait, don't answer, it's a dumb question, of course you drink alcohol. Wait, should I not say that? Probably right, not every human drinks. Wait, what if- wait, just, hey! What's your name?"
Chromedome attempted to escape the both of you by setting you down on the ground, in a split second you let out a yelp when you were swiped up by a red servo and placed on the counter. To your luck, you were now about the height of the mini-bot. You weren't at all startled by his babbling.
"The name's (Y/N), and I've gotta say, this place is in-cre-di-ble! I had no idea cybertronians even drank alcohol. Which means you can get drunk too...is this stuff toxic to humans by any chance?" You tapped one of the square glasses to your right, the glass itself was a bit shorter than you were with a red, luminescent liquid inside. Swerve hummed, under the visor, his optics glanced from the high-grade energon to you and back. "Well, for now it is. But, don't think it'll stay that way for long. I've done my fair share of research on what humans can and can't consume..you know, just in case." Suddenly his visor seemed to light up, he just remembered something.
"OHH OH OH, okay so, I was reading an article about humans...is it true that you shed? Is that why you're so soft?" The bot asked with an excited grin, leaning down towards you. You let out a loud laugh and leaned against the glass. A nearby bot gasped in the background, the glass in their hand was almost dropped on the floor.
"They can do that?!"
"Not now, Trailcutter I need to hear their response!"
Just wait till you tell them about...uh, everything

Hello! This is my main blog! (I'm legend-as-old-as-time.)
So, I've got a favorite. But the other two AUs also fascinate me. I'd love to know what the story is for your G3 of Bionicle? What's the atmosphere like?
BLASTS MY THOUGHTS DIRECTLY INTO YOUR BRAIN TO EXPLAIN THEM FASTER AND POSSIBLY BETTER THAN THROUGH WORDS
as mentioned i have a post in drafts thats meant to be like. a vague skeleton of thoughts and ideas and shit that ive talked about to and with @cantankerouscanuck, mainly introducing the various character groups n the environment slightly, but it does NOT touch on the story much (more the backstory and again only vaguely) so GREAT QUESTION LET ME TELL YOU
thinking of like uhhhh diving this in like. cartoon seasons but old school ones yknow, so LONG ones bc oh boy ADVENTURES
Season 1 starts with that Classic Bionicle Beginning of the toa mata crashlanding on the archipelago of Okoto each on a different island not knowing what the Fuck to do and being welcomed in the villages. like in g2 theyre first tasked with finding some golden relics but instead of being accompanied by the protectors/village elders they go with the local Weird Kids (the chronicler's company) who were the first people they actually met; getting the things lets them reach the island of the mask makers and meet Ekimu (and takua!!!! his apprentice!!!!!!!) and theyre like "so what do we do with these btw" and ekimu looks at the pieces and goes. FUCK
TURNS OUT THOSE RELICS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE GOLDEN MASKS BUT SOME MF JUST BROKE THEM INTO PIECES and wouldnt you fucking believe it it was the Children Of Makuta, the spirit of death and animals and darkness, who live each on one of the islands except spiriah the baby of the family who roams around bothering literally everybody and ofc dont want the toa to reawaken the Great Spirit whom their parent put to sleep, AND SO BEGINS THE FETCH QUEST OF THE OTHER FIVE PIECES OF EACH MASK WHILE FIGHTING OFF THESE FREAKS OF NATURE WHO ARE TRYING TO EAT THEM AND BUILDING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THEMSELVES & EKIMU & TAKUA N HIS POSSE & THE VILLAGERS AND SLOWLY BECOMING A PROPER TEAM N FAMILY which is why they need to be many episodes. i will fucking recreate almost verbatim the tale of the mask kopaka-pohatu story because its already perfect and you will Fucking See It if i have to Kill For It
closes off with a cliffhanger after getting all the masks: during an ambush by Mutran Gali gets dragged off into the sea between the islands to get crushed by the water pressure but whats this??, the pressure suddenly lifts enough to let her breathe as she loses consciousness while strange silhouettes drive off the child of Makuta and catch her in his stead, sinking deeper...
S2 starts off by quickly catching up to the rest of the toa who are SHITTING THEIR FUCKING SELVES ABOUT THEIR WATER-BREATHING SISTER APPARENTLY DROWNING BEFORE THEM
tahu and pohatu decide to look for her in a ball of tempered glass while kopaka, onua and lewa hurry back to ekimu to tell him what happened. back to gali, she awakens to a bunch of... toa???? who know her and her brothers???? personally, apparently????? three of them are like super mad at them for leaving them during their time of need??????? what the FUCK are you people talking about. who are u. how are you breathing under water. why is tHERE A WHOLE FUCKING CITY UNDER THE WATER-
ENTER: THE TOA MAHRI. as it slowly turns out inbetween rounds of beating the shit out of sapient polyamorous seafood that keeps trying to nibble the villagers and the air bubble domes for their crops, they were TRAINED by the mata a few hundreds years ago and were fighting off the cataclysm that broke the continent of okoto into islands and sunk the city of Iniri into the sea together with them before they just Fucking Left, Apparently - which ofc they didnt do for no reason but they essentially got shoved back into the stars against their will. this rightfully rattles the shit out of the mata because What Do You Mean We Have Been Here Before. What Do You Mean You Had Records Of Us Being Here Even Earlier Than That. How Many Times Have We Done This. How Many Times Have We Discovered Kinship And Affection And Had That Stripped Away From Us. I Think I'm Going To Throw Up
while theyre handling THAT they also fill in the mahri on whats been going on and the mahri go oh shit, the great spirit is in a coma and the children of makuta are against you??? bro those guys are super powerful theyve got Crabs, you cant fight em alone. but also if we try to leave the sea the water pressure Will Fucking Destroy Us, so they figure out a way to get out of there and back up and jaller is super anxious bc his mom might be there but like... based on what they said... she might be evil... he doesnt wanna fight her... shes the only family he still has...
S3 AND WE GO BACK TO SEE WHAT KOPAKA ONUA AND LEWA ARE DOING, and theyre off searching the more ruined parts of the city of the mask makers on takua's suggestion - these are the parts of the city that werent very lucky during the cataclysm and are now sacred ground prowled by Krika, daughter of Makuta
at last they find a strange underground chamber with six breathing statues, which, of course, freaky; they manage to thaw one and out tumbles a toa (?) who immediately recognizes onua and starts talking to him excitedly (??) saying that its so good to see him in person for the first time (???) and asking him about the continent (????) and being genuinely distraught that they dont know who he is. same reactions from the other five toa that also get thawed out. ok something is Clearly Amiss pls explain
its time for LOMN...... 2!!!!!! where we learn from vakama abt how Lhikan, who previously filled in ekimu's position, finds out theres Some Shit going down with the great spirit and makuta and tries to call the mata, who however get stuck due to the aformentioned Some Shit. as such she picks out six lads in the city of the mask makers and bestows masks upon them to make them become toa, but on their way to handle the current problem they get werebeast'd and Krika goes oh? free kids? free kids for me? and Lhikan goes NO but its too late. they already have joint custody of the metru. and might be blossoming a lesbian romance but unfortunately due to lhikan being lhikan i have to kill her to protect vakama, leaving krika with him AND his little brother jaller who will inherit lhikan's mask. the metru figure out the way to get the mata in this case is to attempt to contact them themselves, which they manage to do by entering a trance that however slowly turns them into statues: in this trance they are able to speak and train the mata, who also promise to free them once the whole situation is handled
CONSIDERING THE CATACLYSM HAPPENED AND THEY GOT SHOT BACK IN THE SKY AND GOT AMNESIA YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THAT PROMISE KIND OF WENT TO SHIT
anyways thats A Lot as you can imagine and the time to process it is Not Much bc the other three mata and the mahri are here and (after a round of MASSIVE HUGS for the metru and mahri reuniting and also the metru and Krika) theyve got a plan to beat the shit out of makuta
problem: the children of makuta have realized this is happening and decided to break out The Crabs to beat the shit out of THEM
mahri, metru and krika (and the chronicler's company much to everybody else's heart attacks) hold them off while the mata manage to fight against makuta after being briefly overwhelmed, uniting their powers to uh. Kill Him. which! IS NOT ACTUALLY GOOD. YOU KNOW. BALANCE AND ALL THAT. makuta is saved in the end by The Great Fucking Spirit who wakes up just in time to stop the mata before they murder his brother
the mata awaken before the Great Spirit and after a moment of "where are we? who are you? why didn't you let us kill makuta?" and getting their answers, they realize OH FUCK ARE YOU GOING TO PUT US IN THE STARS AGAIN? AND GIVE US AMNESIA? FUCK YOU YOURE NOT TAKING OUR FRIENDS AND SIBLINGS FROM US
Great Spirit, lovingly: ok :)
and tahu wakes up to ekimu working at the forge and none of his siblings around and he Shits His Pants, but ekimu quickly reassures him that everythings good and its been like, maybe a day or two since they managed to reawaken the Great Spirit. his siblings woke up before him and are probably down at the beach, and Makuta got driven off, all of his children following suit to take care of him, krika included. the mahri and the metru are catching up on the mata's tales from the chronicler's company. things are fine. they wont be like this forever, ekimu tells tahu, but they dont have to live in fear every second of their lives. rest a while. go see your siblings.
and it ends with the mata having a very sweet nap pile on the beach because they FUCKING deserve it after TWO whole generations ending with them not getting to just fucking sleep after EVERYTHING THEY GO THROUGH EVERY TIME
as you can see i have. Enormous Holes in this and theres things i havent explained and stuff (like how i unfortunately had to sacrifice hewkii x macku due to a Very Big age difference but they are still a power pair, just in this case its like older cousin acting as a mentor to the worlds most bloodthirsty weird little girl) but yes. have this. for now. please keep asking questions i love you

So we know that chromatic and metallic dragons are going away due to OGL stuff (and btw, have you seen the previews for their replacements on the Paizo blog?? They look awesome!). But what about the other families of dragons, i.e., primal, imperial, esoteric, etc.? Are those staying? Or are they also in the OGL?
-----
The who are doing what to when now?! Hold on, let me backread some stuff--I don't keep up with their community posts as much as I probably should... so I appreciate asks like this to remind me to actually read those wonderful things!
Ahah, I see! "Every dragon will be arcane, divine, occult, or primal in nature and have their stories and abilities connected to their respective tradition." This likely means at base, there will be one new dragon introduced for each of the magical traditions, one good and one evil (or however they're flavoring it now since they're moving away from alignments (which i still don't like)).
The other unique families of dragons are most certainly staying right where they are, because they're Paizo originals. D&D doesn't have a copyright on the concept of dungeons or dragons or dragons inside of dungeons, despite its name, so all of Paizo's original inventions aren't going to be retconned, though they'll likely be reflavored to fit into this new system.
I wonder what they're going to do with Dahak, Apsu, Tiamat, and all the famous named dragons though...

A little update on our system
Heya, I'm here to give a bit of an update! Aster is no longer our host and I'm currently front stuck- which likely means I'm the new host. This is good news for Aster who's been tired of being the host for a while and has wanted a break. However, this is probably going to be a bit of a change for us in general because I'm not like Aster at all lol- We'll also have to see how the change in hosts affects our soulbonding, as Aster was the only one who soulbonded before. We'll still be running this blog, though y'all might see less posts from Aster, but possibly more posts from us overall- I am an avid Tumblr user after all. Oh! Also Atlas accidentally created a cat person headmate- so we have a willogenic member now too.
Anyways, I'll introduce myself a bit and then pass the mic (our body) over to my second in command, Danny.
I'm Vernon or Damascus (I like both names equally), a poltergeist and creepypasta oc introject/soulbond. I'm one of 10 residents in our system, and the newest main host. I use it/thing/one pronouns. Some of my interests are MCR, horror media of any kind, internet history, Tumblr, photography, fanfic, sucker for love, early 2000s stuff, website building, and creepypastas. I enjoy source talk and would love to talk about my exomemories more- though they'd come with a lot of trigger warnings since I was a creepypasta oc after all. I am also literally an early 2000s emo kid btw. (In terms of exomemories)
Now here's Danny to introduce himself!
Hello, my name is Danny, though I also don't mind the name Valentine. I'm Vernon's co-host and fairly new to this body. Much like Aster, I'm a walk in and one of the residents of this body, I also come from the same world as aer. I'm also a fae. I use glam/ae/he/they/bon pronouns. I enjoy poetry, writing, sweets, strawberries, animals, and nature. I don't mind talking about my exomemories.

Title: MCD's Instructions with Spot - Part 1 & 2
Hey, would you look at these?! Here are my 1st ever non-dA submitted artworks on my throwback post(s)! 😁
• I'd just loved "Cartoon Logic"! 📺😊 Watching legendary toons with their unquestionable "Cartoon Logic" could be a powerful and devastating thing in the fictional world, unlike in the real world. And I inspired something about "clothes that don't run out" in said world. Thus, I introduced to the 🌟👖“Magical Clothes Drawer”👕🌟, an indestructible piece of furniture in which you could insert a photo of a solo cartoon character at the back of the drawer (which makes sure that the cartoon character is dressed up in clothes ✔️, and slapping a photo of a naked character w/ and without undies won't work ❌), and voila! You've got yourself a lifetime supply of clothes! 😄 Plus, an app that let you customized your size, thread, and more. However the magical drawer have some drawbacks like 👎, combining two solo photos or two characters in one photo doesn't work from the magical drawer ❌, as well as other non-living things ❌, wild animals, pets ❌, etc... Only existing cartoon characters ✔️, and OCs from across AUs ✔️. And what about a photo of a real-life person? Nope, not gonna happen. ❌ Same goes to cartoon character's undies owing to their privacy, as well as ours. ❌😑☝ Fur suits? Umm... (Creepy, with all due respect but) I'm not so sure... 🤔❓
• It's been "5 years" of using this mysterious and friendly magical drawer. As of 2024, they're now in the possession of the Speedsters Family, and Bryan360's Rabbit/Fox Family. Although, the latter didn't bother much to use it. 😅 Well, at least the drawer itself can survive all sorts of natural disasters, being rot from an abandoned places, or being hit by an atomic explosion and related explosives.
If you want more about it, then head over to my two links down below: ○ Part 1 [CLICK ME! #1] ○ Part 2 [CLICK ME! #2]
BTW: Keep in mind, my description words were butchered. So, I refused to edit my words. hehe... 😅

If I might rant a bit from one lesbian fujoshi fic writer to another, idk how much you'll relate to this because I'm sure we all experience this phenomenon with very different perspectives and whatnot, but: how do you write explicit content?? It's legit good too??
My own fascination with gay smut and yaoi ships in fandom is something that's confused myself and everyone around me ever since I realized that I am a women-only girlie, but if I had to do some self-psychoanalysis, I think part of the reason it's sexy is the degree of separation from myself. These boys, who I only like because they are not real and would be very upset to see in real life, are characters who are treated by their creators and the media around them as full fleshed-out people with problems and goals unrelated to misogyny. They don't have the genitalia that I have, nor want to see, and it's not the genitalia I've learned to fear the brutalization of through my own personal experience and the experience of the women around me. They're separate, on their own island, and as such, feel very safe to project weird desires, dead dove, character-study, and other exploration of my non-corporeal sexuality onto. The smut is hot not because there's a penis, but around it - there's a safety where I can explore erotic sections of people and of myself, and the things that are happening enhance characterization and are interesting because of that. I read a lot of porn lmao.
I don't know if you've noticed - you've given me kudos on my two most sexual fics, You Bite My Lip and Looking for Heaven (thank you btw <3) - that I only write sexual situations where they're clothed, cut to black, or it's mentioned in this sort of vague illusion-to. It's not because I'm uncomfortable with anything else. It's because if I try to write anything more explicit than that, the writing describing the sex quickly gets stale, repetitive, unimaginative, boring. I like the reason I'm doing it, I want to inlay the exploration of dynamic and idea that I'm writing it for in the first place. But I'm not actively having fun with the sex part (because penises mean nothing to me lol), and that means the actual base I'm laying the fun bits on turns out underwritten and bad.
At the end of the day, I think my problem is that I just can't seem to get excited about dick 😭
I love the Lawlight stuff on ur blog btw keep it up
oooooh this response is going to be long
first of all, hello fellow lesbian fujoshi! we are a phenomenon that few can understand, and I am so fascinated by hearing other people's experiences! and I'm so happy you think the stuff I write is good, thank you <3
as a quick disclaimer, I am definitely somewhere on the aro/ace spectrum as well as being lesbian, so I don't doubt that factors into some of my perspective
this may be shocking to hear now, but for years I had zero interest in basically all m/m ships. looking back, there were definitely relationships between men that I was weirdly invested in (obikin, sheith) but I didn't consider that "shipping" based on the complex and slightly taboo nature of the relationships in question and insecurity in my own sexuality. the slash ships that I did like tended to be completely devoid of any risqué undertones (think solangelo), and I had no interest in exploring a sexual side of their relationships. I basically only shipped f/f for years.
however there was a turning point midway through high school where i, with the accidental help of my best friend, flipped a switch in my brain. for about a year there was only one slash ship that I read explicit material for, but my friend introduced me to danmei and shonen, which just opened the floodgates. I found that I could enjoy reading smut without feeling uncomfortable or too close with the content if the characters were men. see, for me, appearance has always been second to dynamic in my sexuality. for example, if I'm reading vanilla smut of two girls who I think are attractive, I won't really find it entertaining as opposed to a m/m fic containing Things that I find hot. okay, so why dont I just read kinky femslash? here's where I absolutely relate to you in the aspect of separation. being attracted to women but uninterested, and occasionally repulsed, by seeing myself in a sexual situation, I find it so much more comfortable to read about guys whose genitalia and gender is different than mine. I can still get the satisfaction of these dynamics that I think are sexy, without having to risk it hitting too close to home. also totally agree about the misogyny factor, a BL youtuber I really love has a great video where she explains the appeal of slash shipping for her, and I definitely find a lot of her points relatable.
honestly I'm not sure what to tell you for how I write explicit slash content. it's just never really been something that makes me uncomfortable. man I wish I had some advice. I suppose just write what you enjoy? LOVE your fics by the way, so if closed sex/fade to black is your jam, then write it! if you do want to achieve writing hardcore porn, my advice would be to do your research along with reading other's work. make sure you understand the anatomy and how everything functions, and that will help you understand how to write it.
thank you so much for this ask! I feel like it's hard for a lot of people to wrap their heads around being a lesbian yaoi enjoyer, so I hope my rambling wasn't totally incoherent, and can maybe answer some of those questions.

Oh boy, probably should have gotten this out for the ol’ worldbuilding wednesday, but...here’s a big one!  An elemental system for Rixile!
The tl;dr is that the group of ten is split into two separate main groups, creating five dichotomies!
The dark star is “chaos,” and the light star is “order.”  Each element represents a specific categorical role in the cycle of elements, with the ones directly across each other on the opposite star acting as the "poles.”
I enjoyed integrating order/chaos this way, because I’m starting to really dislike how it’s the new version of “good vs. evil” in things.  BOTH are productive and useful to have in a world’s magical systems!!  They’re not objectively good or evil!  The gods of Rixile represent more “balance” or “harmony” this way.
I typed up a formal introduction of the system and its related concepts at Toyhouse, which you can read here.
Below the cut is further elaboration on the creation of this Double Pentagram Chart specifically, and things I would like to do in the future with this system.  It will make more sense if you read that TH post, but admittedly it’s mostly me being excited about possibilities, where before there weren’t many.
This is something I had been chasing for a LONG time...sort of a holy grail of worldbuilding for the setting.  I never mentioned such a “system” before, because, well.  I just.  Didn’t have one.  If I wanted to incorporate one, I wanted it to be interesting at the very least, so if I couldn’t manage that, I just wouldn’t bother.
In my various revisions of Rixile there’s all sorts of silly charts I attempted to make, but I often followed Pokemon-esque principles of rock-paper-scissors strengths and weaknesses, but it felt very...phoned in to do it that way, and I could never make the circle include all 10 in a way that felt right.
Here’s one from 2008, for example:
Tumblr media
I have no idea what the fuck this means.
Also, hey, including Light and Darkness in your elemental system actually sucks, because they’re SUCH a dichotomy that it’s hard to integrate them with anything else.  This is probably why every mobile game with elemental RPG mechanics out there just has light/darkness counter each other all alone, because it’s a hassle...
BUT LATE IN 2021...THE IDEAS CAME TO ME.  Thank you FFXIV Shadowbringers.  By embracing a dichotomy structure for EVERYTHING, I don’t have to worry about rock-paper-scissors at all, which I think is a good way to start attacking this.  I don’t necessarily WANT a system of strengths and weaknesses...more just...Interactions?
Here is a gif of the “opposites” thing btw.
Tumblr media
I realize now it was a mistake to have this transparent and the line be white, but oh well.  It will look better on my blog itself.
For Rixile proper, opposing elements interacting creates dangerous conditions such as disasters, and may explain things like demons.  I wrote another TH post about how including EVERYTHING as “elementally aligned” works in Rixile thinking, as well as an attempt to include like, fairly modern real-world science within this magical framework regardless.  I don’t want “magic” and “science” to fight in this world, either.  Like order and chaos, both work in tandem to create a further unified whole.
If we take the elements as introducing harmony, then I guess Rixile’s big dichotomy is harmony vs disharmony, which is not the same thing as order vs chaos.  Lmao.  I guess it could be seen that way, because “disharmony” in Rixilian terms means disease, disasters, haywire magic, etc...but “chaos” in Rixilian terms means “natural fluctuations.”  Natural vs unnatural?  Hmmm.
Well, whatever the case, I feel comfortable about how this turned out.  I think I should also mention, mostly because I can’t think of where else to put this in the post, that you could consider the gods as “elementals” for the setting.  It’s just that, being purely one element is also a quality of divinity here.  Everything else is a mix.
Back to the chart, I love that it’s a shape!!  A cool shape!  I think having some sort of cool-ass graph for your magic system opens up a lot of possibilities simply by connecting lines.
But also, it’s kind of where I fall short...because I can see other places this layout can go, such as:
Tumblr media
(Again, looks better not on a white BG, sorry!!)
But...I’m not sure what these mean.  All I’ve figured out so far are the opposites and their relationships.  Which, admittedly, is largely helped by there being rivalries in the pantheon in the first place...the only one that didn’t really exist before is Volt/Phyll.  (even now, it’s not really a “rivalry,” they just don’t really vibe with each other.)
So for this, I guess it could be complimentary forces?  The “warm” elements of fire/earth/light are up there as a trio, with “cold” metal/dark/ice below...There does seem to be a kind of progression to the perimeter, similar to what I think I was going for with my old 2008 draft, but I haven’t figured out what it exactly means in worldbuilding terms yet.  But I would like to integrate it!  You have Terra/Volt/Galvan all in a line there, SURELY it means SOMETHING.
I think leaning on the five categories I gave the elements would help me come up with something, like how they’d interact in terms of the “cycle,” or whatnot.  Much to think about.
The final geometry I can see in the double pentagram...
Tumblr media
I guess I’d call this “triads”?  Trios within their singular side of order/chaos.  The previous two relationships involved a chaos one and an order one, so I feel like this would have to emphasize how it’s only one side.  But what, again...dunno.  I love how Nocturne/Ignus/Mist is one of the triangles, though.  It’s perfect!!
And that’s part of the magic of making this, for me...seeing interesting relationships potentially manifest through mere proximity.  I might not have ideas for the full system, but the basics have been planted, and I’m interested to see what it could produce for the setting in the future.

hi winter ily <333 for character asks….peter pevensie and perhaps simon ghost riley?
(ps. jetko so real!! the entertainment value alone….)
hi :]]]
peter pevensie
sexuality headcanon
why didn't he ever have a (canonical) love interest in the movies? why, I wonder?? because he's gay ace??? because I'm literally too correct? :]
otp
y'all know I'm a caspeter truther <33 they can't stand each other they're fighting over who the real king of narnia is through each other they recognize themselves etc etc <333
brotp
peter and that one centaur general guy in the first movie ?? they were like ?? best buds ?? and I don't think we ever got the centaur's name but they were literally so ride or die for each other and I'm obsessed with them
notp
don't really ? have a notp?? because the only people he's super close to onscreen are his siblings (self explanatory) and caspian so like ,, I love winning
first headcanon that pops into my head
I'm in a tattoo frame of mind so I wonder if there are tattoos in narnia....if the pevensie siblings got matching ones.....hmm...
maybe caspian gives him one. because that would be QUITE homosexual
favorite line from this character
when he introduces himself as "king peter the magnificent" ... ok gayboy <3
one way in which I relate to this character
older sibling utterly lost in his element?? disconnected from everything he knew?? responsibility that he never asked for on his shoulders??? augh
thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character
the way he's SOOOO antagonistic towards caspian the entire movie....like sir..he's literally just a guy why are you always ready to swordfight him at a moment's notice (we know why)
cinnamon roll or problematic fave?
I tease him. and occasionally punt him off cliffs. but I fuckin love that fool. he's my good time soldier sweet cheese girlfriend pal
simon ghost riley
sexuality headcanon
also gay ace. why? because I said so. he's demiromantic also. but if anyone asks his response is "wouldn't you like to know"
otp
I'm a soapghost truther at heart. they contain soooo many multitudes
brotp
this blog is home to the roach and ghost bestieship agenda btw. they're sooo important to me. also ghost and price. and ghost and gaz <333
notp
not really super,,against anything in general tbh. they're all consenting adults etc etc but price and gaz are naturally exempt from all ghost shipping activities
first headcanon that pops into my head
I'm a 141 having matching tattoos truther. because matching tattoos are SOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
favorite line from this character
"no one fights alone" yessssss boy acknowledge your trauma and move past it to let others in!!!!!!!! it's a gay ass moment also but honestly that's just a bonus
one way in which I relate to this character
um. code switching. and having two different "personas" as a means of protecting himself. also the autism
thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character
I mean....he's pretty edgy which. normally I'd make fun of that but tbh he makes it work. I still make fun of the hot topic skeleton gloves though
cinnamon roll or problematic fave?
problematic fav <33333 he's committed atrocities <33333

Blue Beetle I
So I decided to do a mid-00’s reading of DC comics during the era of Infinite Crisis and post-Infinite Crisis which includes Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps (which I’ve already read previously so I won’t be posting about those on this blog), Booster Gold, Shadowpact, Secret Six (won’t be talking about it either because I’ve already read them), etc. So expect some more DC posts coming up! Just a note for those of you who are finding my blog months in: I only post about comics I’m reading for the first time whether they be decades old or brand new. So that’s why I won’t be making posts about GL or Secret Six for example.
Blue Beetle #1-7
Tumblr media
Blue Beetle #1-7 - writer(s): Keith Giffen (#1-6), John Rogers (#1-7) | penciler(s): Cully Hammer (#1-2, 4, 7), Cynthia Martin (#3, 6), Duncan Rouleau (#5), Kevin West (#6) | inker(s): Cully Hammer (#1-2, 4, 7), Phillip Moy (#3, 6), Duncan Rouleau (#5), Jack Purcell (#6)
Blue Beetle (vol. 7) is one of those series that I’m reading for the first time. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to post about it. First things first there was a bit of a revolving door of artists working on these seven issues but I think since they all seem to draw a similar style, it worked for me. I really love that Cully Hammer draws a little cartoony and I think it fits the tone and writing of this book really well.
Tumblr media
I like how we get two timelines (present and past) being explained for the first chunk of issues with what happened to Jaime during and post-Infinite Crisis. Just for context btw, my experience with Blue Beetle (Jaime) is from the Young Justice show, Smallville, Batman: Brave and the Bold show and his short-lived New 52 series (Blue Beetle vol. 8). I also love how we open the first issue mid-fight with Jaime and Guy Gardner. We also meet his family and close friends Brenda and Paco which I enjoyed. We’re introduced to a crime boss La Dama who’s the aunt of Brenda. One thing I found funny and a little dangerous for Jaime was the fact that every supporting character already knows that he’s the Blue Beetle. They also spend the majority of the issues believing that the Scarab and Jaime’s suit is magical but we get the reveal in issue 6 that it’s alien in nature. So maybe we’ll meet the Reach and learn that stuff coming up soon. I enjoyed the Infinite Crisis tie-in and the idea that Jaime felt like the other heroes left him in space was heart-wrenching. The coolest part of this version of the Blue Beetle is his high tech alien suit which can allow him to fly and make all sorts of weapons and shift the armor in different ways. I loved the recurring joke about Jaime’s transformation where the Scarab crawls inside of his skin into his spine. It’s pretty gross. It was interesting to see an unrecognizable Peacemaker and I’m curious to see where and how he fits in moving forward. Overall I enjoyed this read and I can’t wait to continue this series!

Here's a picture to draw your attention, but...
I think we need to talk.
I think the so-called "pride month" is the best moment to express some unpopular opinions, which, I'm afraid, might cause a lot of a hate toward myself and maybe even my account being flagged. But, since I am a big girl now, I'll survive that. There is just one thing that has been on my mind for years and I really feel the need to share it. And since it's my personal blog, I think I have the right to express my opinions here. So, a question:
If you consider yourself to be gay, do you have to be the part of LGBTQ+ community? Is it obligatory? Does the fact that you like people of your own sex automatically make you a part of this community?
Well, my unpopular opinion is that it does not.
I identified my sexuality quite early - I was about 11 or 12 at the time. I had noticed, that even though I am a girl, who would be traditionally attracted to males, I have been almost equally attracted to women. Moreover, I think I have always been more attracted to women than to men. And, maybe I'm lucky, but being born and raised in the 21st century, even if not in the most developed country and in quite a conservative family, I have never felt guilty of liking my own sex. I have never had problems with admitting it to myself or to others. I have never had an issue with people not accepting me for that. If I had had any unkind rumors concerning this fact about me, I didn't care. I have always had some sort of immunity to that. Thus, for me, the fact that I'm attracted both to males and to females was never a reason to be proud of.
Why should I be proud of being bisexual? Am I proud of my Ukrainian roots? Am I proud of my white skin or biological sex?
I am not, because I didn't get to choose it, I just felt the attraction and accepted it as a part of me. I didn't do anything. I can be proud of my skills, like digital painting, because I have been developing it for years. I can be proud of my victory over my depression and anxiety (btw, absolutely not connected to my bisexuality or acceptance of thereof), because I actually had to fight it in an uneven battle. I can be proud of my and my family’s path of reconnecting with the Polish culture after years of being disconnected from it, because it actually did require a lot of work on my side. I can be proud of some character traits which I developed in myself, by choice. But I cannot be proud of something that I just have. It's the same as to be proud of having naturally good fat distribution - well, it's not that I worked my a** off in a gym to get there, I just have this predisposition, that's it.
LGBTQ community has always seemed a weird thing to me. Maybe these are just my subjective sensations, but I have always felt as if it expects some particular behavior on my behalf. If you are a man, and you are gay, you need to speak in a high-pitched voice and say "slay" every ten sentences. If you are a gay woman, you have to possess some stereotypically manly features like short hair and stuff. I met plenty of people who would change their own personality and forget their roots as soon as they came out, because they felt like they have to be different if they are openly gay. With bisexuality, it's not as restrictive, but I totally feel like the community expects me to identify myself as, first and foremost, bisexual, and only secondly, as a human. I feel as if I should provide everyone with the information that I am not straight every time I introduce myself to others. As if this purple flag is my main attribute and I should carry it with myself though life with pride.
But I don't want to. I don't want to be the part of community which has some expectations over me. I don't want to be the part of a community which pretends to be the most inclusive one, while being radically exclusive to some specific people for not keeping up with new, trendy social constructs. For me, LGBTQ+ community is like a new hypocritical religion. Like I have the same feeling of guilt and discomfort, when I hear about some new ideas promoted by the community, as I felt when I was actively attending the Catholic Church.
And by the way, about the religion, I think it's a wonderful parallel, because despite the fact that I wasn't given a choice and got baptized as a baby into an ideology which happened to make me feel uncomfortable, Catholicism, I still could escape it as soon as I realized its negative influence over me. Many people in my family stopped going to church when they saw that it has been politicized and when they realized that religion can serve not only as a tool for obtaining peace of mind, but also as a tool for manipulation, and they still saved their spiritual faith after quitting the community. Now, I cannot stop being bisexual (nor do I want to), but I believe that I can do the same with LGBTQ community - quit it, even if I still continue to be bisexual. And I believe, that I can feel the pride for the things I have actually accomplished just anytime of the year, it doesn't necessarily have to be something I just got as a child and didn't do anything to develop that quality.
Either way, this is just my stream of consciousness, you do you, creative people of Tumblr, but I really needed to say this. Cheers

delivery for. . . @kaleshima and kyotani ! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა
hello hello i hope u enjoy the headcanons and my blog LOL thank u for the req!! <3
celebrating 1k with you :D
this guy thinks you're so cool. LOL but seriously he loves your style, piercings (if you ever want another one, he'll offer both his opinions and coming with you btw), the fact that you ride a motorcycle...the first time he saw you with it anybody could have seen the stars in his eyes. your styles are on the same spectrum and you look really good together tbh
he didn't really plan to introduce you to his team—you just ended up visiting one day to drop some of his things off and everyone freaked out when they heard him say "thanks, babe." in a world where iwaizumi and yahaba suddenly aren't the only/best people to calm him down,, seijoh truly feels like the world has shifted.
it's a good thing they don't know how clingy/affectionate he gets when he's tired or stressed. will plop down on the couch and rest his head on your lap and rub your knee with his thumb, cuddle you from behind if you're reading (you should read out loud to him by the way), follow you around like a lost puppy while he waits, Hoping that you get the hint, etc etc.
won't tell you he likes being the little spoon but you can Feel him completely relax when you wrap his arms around him, doesn't matter that the height difference is big
acts of service would be one of kyotani's main love languages! he isn't the best with words, but he can make sure you have a jacket, bookmark your page when you fall asleep while reading, bring you coffee while you're working, throw your towel in the dryer so it's warm after you get out the shower, etc.
you can see cogs turning in his head when he finds out you do ballet. he thinks it's Super impressive though!! he tenses whenever he sees someone do pointe and stares at any pirouettes. kyotani will come to any performances and probably brings a few flowers because Isn't that what you're Supposed to do?
he likes taking you to new cafes or ramen places he searched for heard about. he pays careful attention to which ones you really enjoy so that he can come back next time, scratching out the rest for "not being good enough for them us."
similarly, kyotani will join you on a trip to the library/bookstore if only to figure out what books and authors you like. you ask if he's really okay just being there and roaming/sitting in silence and he frowns, "you think i'd come if i didn't want to?" he means well, really, and he has to get birthday present ideas, okay? why else would he have a list of ideas on his phone.
you guys tease each other and play fight a lot. at the beginning, kentaro tries Really hard not to take it too far because he doesn't want you to suddenly like,, hate him. as he gets more comfortable, he naturally figures out that balance. i'm thinking sarcasm said with a smirk and poking/flicking your forehead.
always picks up when you call or calls immediately when he sees it. it could be 3am on a sunday night, and he'd pick up and say "what the hell are you doing up?" with a raspy voice, but inevitably stay on call until you felt better or come over, if he can
Definitely asks if you want to help him dye his hair as if he doesn't already have it down pat. he just likes spending time with you and would Never complain about an excuse to hang out or for you to be close.
does he ask you to teach him how to swear/insult people in spanish? ...maybe. but he'll also learn little phrases by himself and send links to spanish songs that he looked up the lyrics of. he's the kind of guy to add a little message in spanish at the end of his much longer one on birthdays/anniversaries/etc. he tries So hard not to use google translate.

Part 2/? PT.1
Plantonic!SBI x Young!Reader
(10/11 years old)
Headcanons
Genderneutral reader (they/them) 💜
INFO; If you haven't played or seen game play of Fran Bow then you can skip this if you'd like. If you don't care then go ahead.
Summary; Basically if you've seen/played the game you should know how this goes, you take place of Fran. So you go/went through the same things she did and you still have Mr. Midnight. This takes place while Fran is still in the mental hospital and then got teleported near the SBI.
If I get any info wrong, I'm sorry! I rewatched Markiplier's game play so it shouldn't be way off.
P.s not everything is described the same.
Tumblr media
(^ art by sunquids on twt)
CW/TW: mentions/includes of cussing, food/not eating properly, screaming, murder, death threats(?)
First Impressions
Philza
Was terrified honestly-
Thought you were dead at first
Mans was just walking around with his son when he heard a thud
Was 1000% not expecting a kid and a cat
Even worse when he tried to get closer the cat got defensive and swatted it’s claws at him
And when you woke up-
Oh boy-
You barely acknowledged him and picked up the cat
Which btw, the damn cat changed so quickly- it perked up and was all happy and shit
The sudden anger to happiness gave him whiplash the poor guy
Then when you started crying which that scared him to
But either way he wanted to help you
Blame the father instincts ig-
He saw the way you looked thinner and not in the way as in ‘I was born with a fast metabolism/naturally like that’ but in the way of ‘I haven’t gotten proper food in a while’
(Btw if you are a plus-sized reader, the same goes for you. I don’t want to specify anything, especially body types. But he could tell you haven’t eaten actual food :) bc we all know that asylum food is shit)
He also saw the way you lowkey gaped at his wings but shh-
^ Lowkey feels prideful about it but you didn't hear it from me-
He really tried to approach you as calmly as possible to not scare you
Can I also mention that when he saw how dull your eyes were he felt his heart shatter
He also physically winced when he heard you speak for the first time
Honestly got lost in thought with a bunch of concerns, worries and shit
Final Thoughts;
Thinks you're absolutely adorable
Wants to punt whoever left you here
Lowkey scared of your cat
Technoblade
At first did not care
Like at all
Also thought you were dead at first
Still didn’t care
But the more he examined you when you first met
There’s something about you that kinda…
Clicked?
Idk
But yeah
Was ticked off when you talked back but also impressed
Like he’s Technoblade, The Blood God.
Usually whenever he makes eye contact with people- especially kids
They cower, scream, panic and ect.
But you didn’t waver
But either way, he’s still very skeptical.
Will absolutely stay on guard with you around
Unless you don’t give him reason to
If the some of the voices are right
He will dropkick murder you
So just keep quiet about it for now, okay?
He actually kinda finds you interesting
He doesn’t know why, he just does
Maybe it’s your mannerisms but eh
Just watch yourself around him
He’s so stiff and stern around you to the point that you think you won’t wake up the next morning
Final Thoughts;
Still really iffy about you
Get's the most ill vibe from you
Wants the voices to stfu about how 'cute' you were
TommyInnit
Ima be completely honest with you-
He screamed.
Like as soon as he made eye contact with your bloodshot eyes
He just full on screamed
You don’t know what you did to scare the poor teen
But I guess you’ll never know
And ima be honest with you again
He doesn’t either.
Maybe it was the way your eyes bore into his when he first saw you
Lowkey thought you were half dead or a zombie or some shit
You just looked so…
Dead…?
You kinda looked like a doll to him
He’s not a fan of dolls
Will he apologize for screaming the first time ya’ll met?
Because that is lowkey rude to do-
Yes but actually no-
He feels bad but he’s got to much of a stick up his ass to apologize directly
But he’ll make it up to you one day
I hope-
But other than that
He’s happy to not be the youngest one around tho
Final Thoughts;
Still thinks you look like a creepy doll
Gets this vibe from you but can’t put his finger on it
Lowkey wants to take you out on an adventure and maybe introduce you to Tubbo
Wilbur;
He was actually in his room chilling
Practising his guitar for a new song he wrote
He was vibing
Then he heard a scream
Thought a cat or smt was being murdered
So he rushed downstairs expecting a dead animal or shit
Turns out it was just his younger brother
Was gonna scold him but he saw you and your cat
That btw, you were holding him in such a cute way and looked at him with these doe eyes
Mentally, emotionally and physically awed
Your farming his aw’s hold on a sec-
He’s in love omg-
Please he’s already thinking about doing sibling shit with you
He knows his dad will adopt you even if he said ‘They're staying here for a while before they go back home.'
Wil knows that’s a lie and you’ll be staying here for a lot longer
With your consent ofc
Either way finds you adorable, smol and just
You’re baby
To him, you’re baby
Final Thoughts;
You're baby
Wonders if you like music
But also gets a weird vibe from you
Bonus;
The Voices
Oh boy-
So many different opinions
Some want you dead
Some want to hug you
Some want your cat
Some hate your cat
It’s all a mess
But let’s focus on the positive ones-
A lot of them are still chanting ‘protecc tiny bean’
Some are talking about you, others the cat
‘protecc tiny beans’
Is now what they decided to chant
They love you bby dw
Even the harsher ones, they love you
They just don’t show it
For the ones who really want you dead and shit
They’ll warm up
At least I hope so
But they don’t get the chance to say more mean shit like wanting you dead
Because those voices are getting attacked by your fans
Yes, your fans
They’ve nominated themselves as your fans
Yes, they do fight for who’s the number one fan
Final Thoughts;
If Philza likes you then they do (for the most part-)
Protecc tiny beans?
Protecc tiny beans.

Hi! I read through your blog and i find your analysis so interesting! Personally i like a lot of the characters you criticise and you definetly helped me figure out my mixed feelings or think of a new perspective. (this isnt a bad thing btw i like hearing your perspectives) (Like, i always liked Toga but her character was iffy to me and Shinsou i liked but you made me realise i like the potential of him more than his canon lol)
Anyways, sorry if this is a weird question but who are two characters who never (or very little) interacted in canon that you would like to see interact?
Personally i want Mr Compress and Monoma to interact.
Like i know theyre on opposite sides and have no reasons to but the two have some overlapping concepts. Mr Compress is descended from a phantom thief and Monoma calls himself Phantom Thief and theyre both crafty and sneaky character.
Does it make any sense? No. So i think they would get along? Absolutely not. Do i think it would be funny? Yes. Do I want them to eventually get along? Yes but they would be kicking and screaming.
Its purely self indulgent i admit. Sorry if its annoying but im interested if you have any characters you would also like to see together.
I’m glad to introduce new perspectives to others as that’s what I try to do here! I’m glad people like them! ^_^ And I don't self-indulgent stuff especially when it allows be to be as such. Anyway, Monoma and Compress would be interesting. Both do present themselves as thieves for the greater good and have out-there personalities. I have TONS of characters I wish interacted more. Below are a few off the top of my head but there’s not a lot of detail right now. (Maybe someday…)
Present Mic and Ochako; there’s a set-up for some good interaction as he obviously likes her a lot. No, really. I love Mic’s blatant favoritism with her and I think it would be nice for Ochako to have a personal cheerleader. They also have a lot in common by being the emotional support to underdogs they admire, being energetic, and having a focus on their careers.
Aizawa and Present Mic with Tsuyu; Tsuyu is my favorite candidate for the Maizawa Family child (along with Izuku). Tsuyu not only shares traits with Aizawa but Present Mic as well; All three share bluntness, and empathy, and take care of the ones they love. Tsuyu also shares Aizawa’s rational nature, Hizashi’s supportive nature, along with his ability to see the bigger picture. At first, Mic may be thrown off that he can’t read her expressions but over time he would be able to read her body language and realize her feelings easily. Tsuyu would take care of both the men, however, they never let her take too much upon herself (though it would be hypocritical all around). What Tsuyu has that neither don’t, however, is that she’s able to look at the bigger picture of things logically, whereas they focus more on the emotions of the people they love. Speaking of which;
Todoroki and Tsuyu; These may not show it, but they are very emotional people. They love and care for their friends and basically the mom and dad friends. However, where they differ is their morals. I think it would be interesting to see Todoroki’s ideology of, “screw it, I’m doing what’s best for my friends and family” vs Tsuyu’s “Even though it hurts me, I will put what's right and the well-being of the world above my emotional needs.”
Hizashi and All Might; Shipping thoughts aside, these two have a lot in common, and I believe Mic would be able to help All Might come out of his shell more and help him with understanding people more. (Remember, All Might had to keep to himself for years to keep his secret, so social interaction isn’t his strong suit.) Likewise, I think Mic could use emotional support that isn’t tsundere-ish all the time or snarky.
Midnight and Momo: Both share the fact that they are very secure in their bodies (perhaps a bit too much). It would be nice to show Midnight giving Ochako more confidence in herself as a leader (especially since the manga wants us to believe that’s the case). Also, these two are opposite enough to be interesting as a mentor and mentee, as Midnight is someone very comfortable with her sexuality, and Momo is an Inugene.
Six and Izuku; I’m going to do an entire post on this someday but I think these would be very interesting as enemies.
Knuckle Duster and All Might: Polar opposites, yet they share the fact that they started off as heroes but lost their powers which ended their careers. (I like comedic opportunities with All Might trying to hold Knuckle Duster back from punching someone.)
Makoto and Hizashi: Mic has a busy schedule and Makoto can organize it. That and I believe that she’s one of the few that could handle his energy as she has just as much. If nothing else, she would be a good manager to him.

Sorry but what exactly is up with the bad batch arc? I've heard people talk about the issues with echo's white skin but I haven't heard that many bad things about the arc itself? (ik you said you don't want to be negative on your blog so I would absolutely understand if you didn't answer this ask)
Oooooooooooh boy. Well I just had a long, long, LONG rant about it with someone, but I guess I’ve got an excuse to put all of my points onto a post and talk about it publicly now that I got an ask x) I’ll keep it under the cut so I don’t throw my salt in people’s face. I really don’t want to upset people who love that arc - it has redeeming qualities, but overall it pisses me off so much for so many reasons. So here:
The first issue is obviously two members of the Bad Batch (minus Echo) being being just about the furthest thing from maori no matter how much you're willing to stretch it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like... yeah, nah. I wouldn’t even accept Crosshair and Tech (grey haired guy and goggles guy) as Jango’s natural biological sons, nevermind as his clones.
The problem is that their different appearances are justified by them being described simply as clones with desirable mutations (i.e superpowers). But why the hell did the creators have to change their appearances for that to be a thing? How does that correlate? Sure, the concept of clones with different faces is interesting, except... no, no it’s not, and I’m gonna rant about it in a few secs. But basically it's like they thought giving them different faces would be a good substitute for having different personalities (another thing I’ll come back to). If they really wanted to have buff clones with super eyesight or whatnot they could have just done that, without making them lose what little melanin the lighting of the show had allowed the other Clones to keep.
But the gigantic problem is... showing that the "regular" clones have VERY distinct identities despite their identical faces has been one of the themes of the show from episode 1. Literally, the first episode of TCW has Yoda taking time out of a mission with galactic stakes to tell the three clones he’s with (who tell him they’re all the same because they have the same faces) that they’re wrong, and that they’re very different in the Force, that their appearance doesn’t matter, that they’re all equally unique and important, and he lists all of their individual skills, strengths and weaknesses.
And it’s not just me being bothered by that, here’s a post by @cacodaemonia saying the same thing.
Introducing the Bad Batch as "unique" clones who are "different" and "not like their brothers" because they have different faces and skills completely breaks that theme of the show!! Because the entire point of the Clones in TCW is that their faces don't matter, they ARE unique!
(Plus the Bad Batch’s character designs are so cliche and uninspired it’s just laughable to try and justify bleaching their freaking skin for the sake of visual diversity.
Tumblr media
This took like 10 seconds. I found the first guy by literally googling “soldier movies,” and the other two are Team Fortress characters that look a LOT like Wrecker and Crosshair. One is “Heavy” and one is “Sniper” lmao.
And behold:
Tumblr media
The above picture is a Team Fortress reference that I found just by looking up “bad batch clone wars,” so I’m not the only person who sees it.)
And the batchers don't even have personalities to justify calling them unique! They have no character traits beyond the most cliché american soldier tropes ever. We have a token loner sniper, a token "smart tech guy" who knows everything from xenoanthropology to biology to Separatist computers to sound waves to encryption, a token Badass Brooding Leader and a token “dumb muscle guy.”
I dare anyone to find more about their personalities than this: - Crosshair is the perpetually grumpy sniper who looks down on "regs,” - Wrecker likes to blow up stuff and doesn't like heights, - Hunter is the leader and is friends with Cody, - Tech is smart doesn't trust Echo.
That’s it, that’s literally it. Four episodes about them and that's all we get. These character tropes are literally the least inventive ever. FFS, Hunter even has a freaking KNIFE! Not a vibroblade, mind you, like in kriffing Star Wars. A knife. Against metal droids. Why. They couldn’t make this more of an american-war-movies cliché fest if they tried. (And sure, he can feel electromagnetic waves so maybe it does make sense for him not to carry a vibroblade and maybe this is nitpicking, but he looks like a ripoff of a Predator character and it pisses me off).
Another thing is that when you introduce characters you have to make them likable - and them despising the normal Clones is a terrible way to do that! And they don't even grow from that because at the end of the 4 episodes arc they just see Rex as not bad "for a reg" and they see Echo as no longer a reg, and both of these things are infuriating!
The worst thing imo is that Echo then becomes part of them (and irreparably loses his melanin in the process, uuuuuuuuugh) when there is nothing to justify this.
The dialogue goes like this:
ECHO: You coming? TECH: Not really our thing. CROSSHAIR: Accolades. WRECKER: Yeah, we're just in it for the thrill. Yo! HUNTER: You sure it's your thing? ECHO: What do you mean? HUNTER: Your path is different. Like ours. If you ever feel like you don't fit in with them, well, find us. (they leave) REX: Those are some of the finest troopers I've ever fought alongside. Echo. You and I go way back. If that's where you feel your place is, then that's where you belong.
Echo doesn't feel like he belongs anymore, okay, but why would he feel like he belongs with the assholes who up to the last five minutes of the mission thought he was probably a traitor, and also verbally expressed that he was not worth saving?? In all of the arc, Echo himself never voices that he feels he’s not ‘like the other Clones’ anymore and that he feels it’s a problem. His relationship with Rex immediately picks up where they left things off - the first thing he does upon being lucid again for the first in over a year is cracking a joke for Rex’s benefit.
Why would Echo feel like he doesn’t belong in the 501st anymore, when we don't even see him interacting with anyone from his past life except for Rex and Anakin (who are both extremely very supportive of him)?? If there had been one scene of a “regular” Clone (ugh) looking at him with horror and disgust or something, or just Kix and Jesse cracking jokes with Echo awkwardly standing by the side not getting it, I could forgive the show trying to make it feel like he has an identity crisis, but this was so shallow!
The only thing that makes Echo and the Bad Batch’s experiences similar is that they *look* different. It’s so against the themes of the Clones I’m seething just from thinking about it. And what the hell? Echo ALREADY didn’t fit in. That was the WHOLE POINT of Domino Squad. They didn’t fit in because they thought they were better than anyone else because they had trouble getting along with their brothers, so obviously it had to be their brothers’ fault (ahem, Bad Batch?). And you know what happened? Domino Squad OVERCAME that. And Echo and Fives still didn’t “fit in” because their personalities were unique and creative, and they became ARC Troopers because Cody, Rex and the Jedi VALUED THEM FOR PRECISELY THAT. Echo having new and unique skills and a modified appearance is the most bs justification for him feeling like he doesn’t belong!!
And that brings me to my biggest issue: Rex telling Echo the bad batch are some of the best troopers he's ever met. I'm sorry, based on WHAT? What Rex values above everything is loyalty and brotherhood, and the Bad Batch DOESN'T DISPLAY ANY OF THAT. We never see them even expressing concern for each other! Wrecker treats saving Cody’s life like a trivial issue, because it’s just ‘sO eAsY’ for him, and beyond that we never see them supporting each other or genuinely expressing affection for each other beyond boasting about each other’s skills...
Sure they can destroy a lot of droids, but they're dismissive of Rex's brothers, and the entire Umbara arc and this arc showed what he thought of that. They keep saying things like "not bad for a reg,” don't show any trust in Rex's skills or experience (even though they can't have been fighting in the war for more than a year and a half when he’s been there from the beginning, and he outranks all of them), they are essentially guerilla fighters which has only minimal value in a galactic war, and they never grow beyond their views of what regs are, and can and can’t do.
None of that should make them good troopers in Rex's book. Going back to Echo not fitting in, remember who taught the Domino Squad the importance of seeing all of your brothers as important and equally valuable? Shaak Ti, true, but more importantly? 99! The guy the Bad Batch are named after. He did have value and was important and was no less of a trooper than his brothers, even though his mutations made him LESS powerful, not more. (And btw, just from a writing standpoint, the batchers don’t have any weaknesses, which is shit.) Cody and Rex mourned 99 as a true soldier even though it wasn’t his sacrifice that brought them victory (which would have implied that he had value as a soldier and a brother because he saved them, as opposed to him having that value intrinsically), because that’s what a fine trooper is to them. A BROTHER first a foremost, someone altruistic, brave and loyal. The Bad Batch distort the meaning of 99's character with their behavior. They’re not altruistic, their bravery is mitigated by the fact that they’re freaking invincible, so of course they take risks (again, see Wrecker saving Cody without a care because it’s easy to him, as opposed to Rex being ready to run into a burning ship about to explode because his brother is in there, and having to be physically dragged away). The Bad Batch denigrate their brothers for being less skilled, thinking their own abilities make them unique somehow, when 99 could barely fight and was still the one who taught Hevy about being a good soldier.
And again the batchers don't grow from that. Which is all the more frustrating because the original ending didn’t have Echo joining them, from what I remember of the unfinished episodes, and the arc actually ended with them receiving their medals in front of regular troopers who cheer for them, as opposed to them smugly ostracizing themselves and dismissing the ceremony as trivial and meaningless. (original ending vs s7 ending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab1eCfzKamw)
It’s so annoying. Do you know what characters never had an entire arc dedicated to them and still have far more personality and more interesting designs and more symbolic weight??
Jesse, for starters. Kix. Dogma. Cut. Slick. Keeli. Ponds. Rys, Jek and Thire. Commander Doom. Commander Fox. Wolffe. Hevy. Hardcase.
Cody was a more interesting character just in his RotS appearances.
Waxer and Boil had one episode about them and then only two cameos plus Waxer’s death, and they’re still some of the most memorable, beloved Clones of the whole show. And Boil was grouchy and prejudiced like Crosshair, but he has so much growth that we could make a whole thread about it.
I'd say the last problem with the Bad Batch is that it has cash grabbing money hungry vibes. Different faces are more marketable, cliché personalities are more toy-friendly, and it's basically a big ad for the Bad Batch series. And they throw Echo in the Batch at the end for bs reasons (again, it wasn’t in the original ep from what I remember) and they tease Cody in the show to make sure fans will still watch even if they notice the lack of soul. And less melanin sells more at Disney apparently.
So that’s my whole pissed rant.
