Most times when I'm looking at Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne fan art and Clark doesn't have his glasses on I have to look for that curl in his hair. I'm sorry 😭 It's the only way I can tell them apart. These two men are canonically too similar 😭

buddie | E | chapter 1 of 8(ish) | 3k | just a boy helping his boy bestie figure out gay sex, with a side of infidelity This is how it starts: Buck goes on a date with Tommy. How it goes from there, Eddie can't even begin to explain.

Chapter 1: born from just one single glance

It’s in the aftermath, when Bobby and Athena are safe and being checked over and the 118 plus family and friends is piled in the waiting room as usual — they all have their preferred chairs with how often they’re here — that Eddie’s unfocused mild interest in this new guy who his friends trust, turns to sharp notice.

Eddie has to step away to call Carla, to let her know they got Athena and Bobby, to assure her that he’s fine, Buck’s fine, they’re all fine. And then he spares an extra moment to text Marisol because he knows she’ll see the news soon, if she hasn’t already, and will worry.

After, when he returns to the waiting room, Tommy’s in his seat. Eddie doesn’t really have a specific one he favors so much as he always takes one next to Buck. So, it follows that, Tommy is now sitting beside Buck.

When Eddie left, Buck’d been pale-faced, and shaky in a way he wasn’t when Bobby was missing and he had a goal to focus on. Eddie hadn’t wanted to leave him, but it was Buck who’d said didn’t he need to call Carla? Let Chris know they’re okay?

Eddie pauses across the room and regards the scene before him. Tommy is leaned in, chatting to Buck, making wide, expressive gestures with his hands as he does. Buck’s still more grey than pink in the cheeks and one hand is clutching the arm of his chair, but he’s stopped picking at the patch of peeling paint he’s about tripled in size over their past handful of waiting room residences and there’s a hint of a smile curling the side of his mouth, which had been a grim line before, waiting for the doctor to report back on Bobby and Athena, waiting to be allowed to see them.

“He’s in good hands.”

Eddie starts at Hen’s words. She appears from behind him carrying two paper cups of what Eddie understands from experience is the worst coffee known to man. He used to force it down because caffeine is caffeine, but he can’t anymore. It reminds him too much of the three minutes and seventeen seconds that were some of the worst of his life.

this started a long long time ago when I made a joke about how sega should put ringo in more dresses, and then my friend reminded me that oh yeah!! I can do that instead!!! and then one thing led to another and we joked about punk ringo and I drew that too. using ringo like a dressup doll is so cathartic it's kinda crazy

some bonuses (original designs, timelapse) under the cut bc I like these designs!! I might do some more with them!! please disregard the band poster in the first second of the timelapse that's something else!!!

#everyone look at my girl isnt she so pretty #puyo puyo #ringo ando #my stuff #please look at the timelapse it nicely packages a week of suffering into a minute :)#you cant tell at all from the recording. but all those teeny tiny scallops on ringo's dress? i drew all of those by hand #because the scallop brush i downloaded didnt look right. it never does why do i have that #plus the lace cutouts on the bottom i also drew by hand because i wanted them to look kinda like bunches of apple seeds #but thats not really a thing you can search for- 'lace brush that looks like apple seeds' is wildly specific #there's probably an identical brush to what i painstakingly drew by hand but dont tell me about it i want to think i did that for a reason #punk ringo on top was a lot less work on the lineart bit except for that godforsaken guitar #i had to make sure it looked right and it took forever #but what punk ringo gave me the most trouble with was posing #i knew i wanted an arm out to mirror lolita ringo but thw initial draft was meant to be her holding the guitar the opposite way she is now #(as in her hand was gonna be backwards)#and do you know how hard it is to balance a guitar like that. i had to grab my guitar and do a photoshoot to see what was most natural #while still having leg up arm out #this was fun to do even if i had about three crises in the middle of it #i tried doing my old rendering style again after a while and it was fun too #lolita ringo gave me a bit of trouble in the fact that my brain couldnt handle the dress being shaded but the apples being flat #but we got it lmao. i dont know if ill ever do this again it took too long #but maybe half of the time was because suddenly halfway through everybody needed my help for something or other that required me to leave #anyway wow thats enough rambling. i should go to bed now

Do you think DC should do more with animation? (Personally I think theatrical animated movies would be amazing, plus animation is less restrictive than live action so more freedom, but y'know that's kind of a pipe dream ashkshsk)

Yes absolutely! I think animation is perfect for superheroes over live-action any day.

My feelings about the current wave of animation for DC specifically is that they feel overly self referential and are in serious need of fresh new perspectives. We have MAWS, which only pulls from anime as shallow aesthetic and tries to "modernize" Superman lore by superficially adding "more diversity", while hyper-focusing on surface level Superman discourse. We're about to have Caped Crusader which from the early look of it we can see is pulling from a classic era of comics but with no personal touches or interpretation that feels fresh or inspired. Harley is Asian now, but why? I doubt there's going to be a narrative reason for it, and she's just going to be superficially "more diverse". The art style feels like xeroxed Bruce Timm. It's been feeling empty. And the Harley Quinn show is just there. Adult jokes, gross, provocative, flat art style.

Which is a shame because animation has evolved in such fascinating ways and right now I'm just not seeing that reflected in DC animated properties. I hate to say "back in my day" but shows like BTAS, The Batman, Teen Titans, GLTAS- all had unique art styles, takes, and voices. Teen Titans didn't just pull from anime artistically, but narratively as well. The Batman has such a bold art style! BTAS and the DCAU were groundbreaking. GLTAS expanded on that. But now all DC animation does is reference their material- a glorified citation. I think the only show that felt fresh and had a genuine desire to create new fans was DCSHG. MLP dynamic x DC girlies is such a wild pitch but I love it! I'm glad out of the DC Nation Shorts, it got expanded. I honestly wish a lot of the DC Nation Shorts got that treatment!

Etc etc anime is cool and all but I miss american animation having it's own style and identity #why do no DC shows look like the TMNT show!! #I've sort of made a new friend? Like we met at the same art group and he's also trans which was like pleasantly surprising in our small town #but like. We have Differences Of Opinion #and it's not totally his fault because it sounds like he's had a Lot of bad shit in his past that's obviously made him wary and closed off #but like. He's slightly older than me (only 4 years) and keeps blaming a load of his problems on other trans folks?#like you know the type. The like 'all these nonbinary/other identities the kids are doing are complicating shit'#the 'it hurts to see people younger than me inc. kids get hormones thrown at them when I still can't get 'em' (which... yeah not even true)#and he's told me himself he doesn't engage much with the queer community bc it's too 'toxic'#and like. I can absolutely understand why he could've had some bad experiences esp. since he has some mental health shit going on #but he wants to be friends bc he doesn't know anyone else going through the medical shit and it's like. Yeah no shit you don't?#you decided the community you'd find them in is toxic? and that people in them are doing being trans wrong?#and I think if he was just some guy online I'd like roll my eyes and ignore him #but he's a real person in my vicinity and I feel fucking bad for him #and I can see how much self loathing he has and how much that probably informs the bullshit #like he told me he thinks that trans men and cis men are fundamentally different categories and trans men will never be cis men #but not in a 'the experiences are just different and come with different perspectives way'#in like a self defeating way. Like a I just have to settle for being a trans man way.#and it made me SO SAD #like bro #I'm so sorry for whoever the fuck made you feel like you're fighting an unwinnable battle #and I want to be a friend to him. I want him to feel like there's other queer people out there and there's friends and hope #but also I genuinely could see him being the kind of person who would get really angry at you for no fault of your own #like I already get the distinct feeling he resents me a little #like obviously not too much since he still wants to hang #but he's been trying and failing to get HRT for years and I got it super quickly basically by sheer luck/a doctor who looks out for me #like I'm so fucking lucky. Two things that are simultaneously true:

1. Gender and sexuality are complex and can be fluid. An identity isn't always fixed and can change with time for many reasons

2. It is not acceptable to force others to change their gender or sexuality and the mantra that they (queer people) can change if they only "try hard" is both cruel and homophobia and/or transphobia
