I know this may come off kind of whiny and is possibly more specific to living in the US being as it’s so individualistic, but what I wish partnered people especially (and to a lesser extent folks who live with roommates) understood about being single/living alone is just how much fucking time I spend by myself.
I’m not a person who can’t handle time alone! I don’t mind doing things by myself, even public things like going to the movies or going out to eat! I think I’m great company! But the thing about being single & not having a default person/people for a lot of these things is that all the novelty of doing things alone, or any benefit you might get from taking some alone time, is kind of erased.
It’s not a ‘fun solo movie night!’ if every time I sit down to watch TV, I’m by myself. It’s not ‘taking myself on a date!’ if the majority of the time when I eat any meal, or go do anything, I’m alone. I keep busy, y’all. I have the most active social calendar of almost anyone I know, because I love my friends, and also by necessity. My coworkers - most of whom I would never choose to spend time with - are already the people I see the most of in a week. If I didn’t make an effort to see friends as much as possible outside of work, they’d be the only people I saw regularly, and that would be fucking me up even more than it already is.
I like living alone, I like being able to do my own thing, I’m proud of myself that I don’t let not having a person to do something with keep me from doing something. And sometimes I really fucking wish I had company for some of this shit. Wish I didn’t always have to run errands by myself, because it would be more fun with a friend. Wish I had someone I could ask to come with me to check on my friend’s cat, because I don’t know if her roommate is going to be home and it might be awkward. Wish there was someone to chat with while I did chores, or have an actual movie night with so it felt like an actual occasion, or, you know, literally anything mundane that could be done with another person, because sure I see and talk to my friends a lot, but that’s usually for an activity or an event - we’re going out to eat! we’re going to watch a specific show! - and rarely just to do the daily mundane shit that I always have to do by myself.
#I went to a baseball game by myself yesterday because no one was available/interested in coming with me#and it was fun! I'm glad i went!#but I was also surrounded by people who were there with their families etc. and I wished I wasn't by myself#things like the train being delayed half an hour just feel more doable when you have someone to chat with#instead of sadly eavesdropping on other people's conversations and trying to commiserate that way :(#and I have to run this errand to my friend's cat today and I wish I had someone to go with me#and then I'm watching the indy 500 alone and that's maybe for the best bc in the past when I've had friends over#they aren't that interested in it#but it's still just another thing I'm doing alone#it just gets tiring#and like I said I'm sure this is in some ways class/country specific#it would be different if I lived with roommates sure but I don't really want to do that#and it would be different if I had a partner too but I'm not trying to put all my eggs in one basket of searching for that#I just wish more ppl my age were interested in creating local community/friendship networks#and trying to circumvent some of this and do more things together#instead of just continuing the pattern of prioritizing one romantic relationship/the nuclear family structure#anyway. pity session over.#going to get off the couch and go check on my friend's cat#she's like the only friend I have that's also interested in *not* buying into the nuclear family monogamy BS so I gotta show up for her lol

lando was frantically pacing your apartment when you walked in, eyes wild, as if he hadn’t slept, and hair an absolute disheveled state. his usually sun-kissed skin seemed to get even paler when he heard the door shut behind you, coming to a halt in your kitchen and staring at you as though he’d seen a ghost.
“lando?” you questioned, confused as to, a) why he was here so early, and b) why he looked like he was about to confess that he had killed your entire bloodline.
“baby, i’m so sorry.” your blood ran cold. what had he done? he closed the space between you, tentatively taking your hands.
“lando… what’s going on?” you tilted your head, starting to sweat in your oversized leather jacket. you’d just been out running errands, picking up bits for the dinner you were supposed to be sharing with the mclaren driver, much later in the day.
“i didn’t think anyone had seen us but then i had my assistant, the entire pr department and my mother phoning me, and then max called and said that him and pietra wanted to see if we were okay, before i could call anyone else back which confused the fuck outta me, so i finally checked twitter and there it was and i just got in the car and came here but god, i’m so sorry.” lando finally exhaled, looking like he was about to pass out, with creases so deep on his forehead that you thought they’d stay there permanently.
“okay, lando? sweetheart? yeah, okay i’m gonna need a bit more info.” you over enunciated each word, stressing that you were still in the absolute dark about whatever was on the verge of sending him into cardiac arrest.
“there’s photos. of us. kissing.” he finally said, quietly, and after a good ten seconds of staring at you in utter fear.
“fucking hell, i thought something terrible had happened. jesus christ, lando.” you exhaled, eyes wide. he stared at you like you’d grown a second head, stepping forward to mockingly rest his hand against your forehead as if he was checking your temperature.
“are you… are you… okay?” lando asked, eyebrow quirked. he was shocked at how calm you were.
you’d both agreed to keep your relationship private, and over the last five months, that had gone swimmingly well. but some low quality photos taken, as you waited for some friends outside a restaurant in the outskirts of london, had fucking launched the cat out of the bag.
“how bad are the pictures? are we naked or something?” you scoffed at him and now lando was truly confused.
“no, but- but i thought we were gonna keep this quiet.” he murmured.
“i know, baby, but okay, it’s out. is that really so bad? it was bound to happen eventually.” you reasoned, and lando finally saw your point.
“i just want to protect you, from all of the lights and the flashing cameras. love you too much to lose you to those vultures.” lando dipped his forehead against yours as he spoke, eyes locked on yours. you couldn’t help but smile at him, the loveliest man you could have wished for.
“oh, my sweet, sweet boy,” you crooned, pecking his lips. “you know i love to show off.” he laughed at that, a low rumbling in his chest.
you pulled away, stepping around him and walking further into your apartment, dropping all of your stuff down in your kitchen.
“anyways, i already saw the pictures. we look hot.” you ignored his incredulous ‘what?’, waving him off. “now, come here and help me make dinner.”

Tumblr media
It wasn’t often that Hawkins held activities that appealed to the whole town. The haunted houses around Halloween only appealed to the teenagers, the winter wonderlands at Christmas only mattered to young children, and the Thanksgiving Parade was something that everyone swears they got dragged along to against their will. Fourth of July in Hawkins was the one day a year that could be counted on to bring people of all ages out to Lover’s Lake for sunshine in the afternoon and fireworks at night.
Kids would splash and swim together in the shallow area of the lake while their parents watched from picnic blankets spread out not too far away. Teens and college students would come with their friends, the college kids drinking beer out in the open while the teenagers had to hide sips behind a tree or behind a friend’s back.
It was a tradition in the Munson household to grill up some hamburgers and bring them down to eat at the lake while they watched the fireworks. This particular year things seem to be off-track, though. Brittany had left the house early in the afternoon to run a few errands and pick up some charcoal for the grill so that Eddie could cook the hamburgers. After being gone far too long for just saying she was heading to a few stores, the phone rings and Brittany gives Eddie some sob story about how she ran into her sister who’s having a crisis and she needs to stay with her for a while. Eddie just sighed as he hung up, thinking to himself that at least Brittany wasn’t dumb enough to say it had something to do with work when banks are closed because it’s a national holiday. The only problem—because going out with his boys without his wife was certainly not a problem—he ran into now was that he didn’t have time to run out and get charcoal and make the burgers before they were going to leave for the lake.
Improvising, Eddie swings through a Burger King drive-through on the way, making sure the three of them would still keep their tradition intact as much as possible. The boys don’t seem to mind the differences between this year and last, maybe just glad to have a chance to hang out with their dad while they did something as cool as watch fireworks.
Eddie pulls his truck into the already-crowded parking lot and grabs the bag of fast food. As he and the boys get out, people walk by carrying coolers, picnic baskets, and a few types of inner tubes to use in the water. There are tons of people there—which Eddie expected. He takes Luke’s hand into his own and instructs Ryan to grab onto Luke’s other so they don’t lose anyone.
“Eddie!” A familiar voice calls out and has Eddie whipping around to spot its owner. He quickly sees the Sinclairs; Lucas is waving with his left hand to get Eddie’s attention, with Tiffany on his right hip.
Eddie nudges the boys. “Look who’s here!” Their eyes widen when they notice Uncle Lucas—who Eddie swears is his younger son’s namesake and certainly isn’t Luke Skywalker—along with Aunt Max and their baby. They practically pull Eddie across the lot to them.
Clapping Lucas’s hand and pulling him in for a modified bro-hug so he doesn’t crash into Tiffany, Eddie offers his long-time friend a grin. “How have you guys been?” he asks as he gives Max a hug.
“Good. Tired.” Max says with a laugh. “Tiffany slept through the night for about three days before she started teething.”
“Aww, poor thing,” Eddie coos, chuckling when Tiffany proves her mother’s point by grabbing Eddie’s finger and gnawing on it. “Don’t worry, it doesn’t last as long as it seems,” he reassures the new parents.
“We’re just headed out,” Lucas explains, kissing his daughter’s cheek. “It’s this little lady’s bedtime, and we’ve gotta get home before the fireworks start.”
“We have no idea how she’ll react to them, and we’re not about to conduct that experiment in public,” Max chimes in, making Eddie laugh again. “But we’ll see you at Ryan’s birthday party next week!”
The Munsons and Sinclairs part with goodbyes and more hugs before Eddie and the boys head towards the lake.
“I wanna sit near the water!” Luke insists, and Eddie winces at his high-pitched whine.
“Think we might get a better view of the fireworks if we sit up a little higher.” It’s the truth; plus, he won’t have to worry about Luke flinging himself into the cesspool that Hawkins calls a lake.
They find a shady spot right under a tree, and Eddie lays out three beach towels so they won’t have to sit in the dirt. He passes out the parchment-wrapped burgers and little bags of fries and sits back with a sigh. This is what he’d always wanted—family traditions with his boys. If only…
“Has anyone seen my sunscreen?”
Eddie freezes mid-bite, only remembering that he has a burger in his hand when his arm starts to ache from being in one position too long. He chews and swallows as though nothing happened, but his mind is racing.
It can’t be, he thinks. He’s almost certain that this is all in his imagination—God knows he can’t get you out of his head—until he hears someone say your name.
Just one look, Eddie convinces himself. A quick peek so I can see that it’s not actually her; just someone who sounds like her and has the same name…
His stomach flip-flops when he glances over and sees you in a low-cut red tank top and cutoff denim shorts. Oh, shit, it’s her. And she looks really, really good. He takes a deep breath, trying to gather his scrambled thoughts. He wishes he had a six-pack; a cold beer can always calm his jangled nerves. Okay, I can’t let the boys see. Once that happens, she’ll come over here and—
Eddie’s anxious thought is disrupted by the sight of one of the three guys you’re with applying sunscreen to the back of your neck. He’s got long, light brown hair—though not as long or luscious as his own, Eddie notes wryly.
Long Hair spends far too much time massaging the lotion into your skin. Calm down, Buffalo Bill. She doesn’t need that much sun protection.
The only other girl there plucks the lotion bottle from Long Hair’s hands, much to Eddie’s relief, and Eddie turns his attention back to his boys. “You guys ready for the fireworks?” He tries to keep the enthusiasm in his voice. “Sun’s setting, so they’ll be starting soon.”
Ryan nods, chewing on a fry. “I wonder what colors they’ll have,” he muses.
“Well, I wonder what would happen if I sat on a firework!” Luke pipes up with a mouthful of burger. “Like, would I fly into the sky? Or would it blow up in my butt?”
Eddie laughs loudly. “My money’s on the second one, little man.”
Your laughter floats over to Eddie on the breeze blowing off of the lake. He mentally berates himself, thinking of how he should be enjoying this family tradition with his boys and not be wondering if any of those guys you’re with are your boyfriend or if you’re sleeping with any of them or if…
“Daddy, what’s wrong?”
“Hmm?” Eddie looks up at Ryan’s worried face and frowns. “What do you mean?”
“Your lip,” Ryan says, pointing at the bottom half of his father’s face. “You were chewing on it, and it started bleeding.”
“Silly me,” Eddie says with a forced chuckle. He grabs one of the napkins from the Burger King bag and dabs at his lower lip. Luke has shifted to watch a game of volleyball happening on a court that someone set up and it gives Eddie the opportunity to scoot closer between his boys, so his back is to you and your friends. Maybe now he’ll be able to focus.
It works for a while. The three of them finish their burgers and Luke is immediately complaining that he’s still hungry. Eddie tells the five-year-old he has to wait and tries to play a game with them to distract his youngest son from his rumbling tummy before the fireworks start.
“Simon says put your hands on your head. Simon says give your brother a high five,” Eddie instructs as the boys eagerly await the next command. “Simon says stand up. Sit back down. Ah! I didn’t say ‘Simon says!’”
“I win!” Ryan cheers as Luke sprawls out on his beach towel with a groan. The familiar twinkling tune of an ice cream truck approaching has him bolting up, though.
“Ice cream?” Luke stands up and balances on his tippy toes to get a better view at the parking lot. When his suspicions are confirmed, he hops up and down. “Ice cream! Daddy, can we get some? Pleeeeease?”
“Okay, okay,” Eddie says as if it’s a hardship for him to indulge his boys when in reality he’d already planned on getting ice cream for them at some point tonight. “Get me some too, okay?”
“Cookies and cream?” Ryan asks, citing his dad’s favorite flavor.
“Atta boy,” Eddie says, handing him a ten-dollar bill. Luke starts to walk away and towards the truck, but Eddie stops him with an, “ah-ah-ah. It’s crowded here. I don’t want you to lose each other so hold your brother’s hand.” When Luke opens his mouth to respond, a frown creasing his forehead and his nose wrinkling up, Eddie halts the whining before it even happens. “Hold your brother’s hand.”
“Fine,” Luke huffs and offers his hand to Ryan in the most limp, unenthusiastic manner possible.
The two walk off and Eddie adjusts his position so he can keep an eye on his sons as they snake their way through the crowd and over to the ice cream truck that already has a line of a few kids in front of it. But from this new angle, Eddie can also see you out of the corner of his eye. A breath rushes out of him as if he’d been holding it since his eyes were last on you. Seeing you makes Eddie calmer and more tense at the same time. As always, your presence brings him comfort and happiness. But you’re with a bunch of guys your own age and the jealousy monster is rearing its ugly head like nobody’s business. Eddie looks down at his lap and his eye catches on his wedding ring, glinting in the fading sun.
“You’re a fucking hypocrite, Munson,” Eddie mumbles to himself.
Unable to not look in your direction—I swear to God she’s got something magnetic about her, he thinks—Eddie sees you gazing out over the lake. You raise your hand above your eyes to shield them from the bright, falling sun and look around the whole area where people have settled in to have fun. Eddie’s just about to look away, not wanting to risk being caught staring at you if you spot him, when he sees one of your guy friends walking over to you. It’s not Long Hair from before. This guy is shorter and as muscly as the other guy was scrawny. Eddie can hear him calling your name, but you must be too caught up in your thoughts to hear him. Muscles reaches out and touches your arm to get your attention. As if seeing him just touching you isn’t bad enough, Eddie watches as you turn around to face Muscles, but the guy still doesn’t take his hand off of you. The tanned, muscular hand is slowly moving down your arm and a knot grows in Eddie’s stomach. If this asshole takes your hand, Eddie feels like he might throw up the burger he’s barely started digesting.
Luckily, you move to walk back towards your group of friends before Muscles’s hand could reach yours. Eddie feels twenty pounds lighter. He turns back to look towards the parking lot and sees his sons approaching, Ryan holding an ice cream in each hand, and Luke holding one and holding onto the back of Ryan’s red t-shirt with the other hand. By the way his youngest son is rolling his eyes as they approach, Eddie realizes it was Ryan’s idea that Luke holds on to him.
Ryan hands Eddie his scoop of cookies and cream, plopping back down to enjoy the mint chip cone he’d bought for himself.
“DAD! OH MY GOD, DAD!!” Luke shouts, and Eddie nearly drops his cone.
“What? What’s wrong?”
Luke points down towards the left. “Look at that doggy! He’s so cute!” Sure enough, a middle-aged couple is walking a golden retriever along the lake. Both boys sit up a bit straighter and watch as the owners toss a tennis ball into the water and the dog eagerly paddles after it.
As Eddie’s heart rate steadies to a normal pace—seriously, he’s going to have to talk with Luke about using his “emergency voice” when it is not an emergency—he finds his gaze drifting back to you. He’s just in time to see Long Hair take the baseball cap from his own head and put it on top of yours. Eddie silently wills you to take it off, chuck it into the lake, set it on fire…but he’s utterly disappointed when you adjust it to your head and wear it proudly.
Would she wear something of mine if I gave it to her? He silently wonders. He’s so engrossed in whatever flirtatious games you’re playing that he barely hears his older son trying to get his attention.
“Daddy, your ice cream is leaking over the cone. Daddy! It’s getting runny and gonna drip! Daddy?”
“And whaddya keep looking that way for? The lake is that way!” Luke chimes in, face covered in cotton candy ice cream.
“Y-Yeah, sorry, guys,” Eddie mumbles, but he keeps his gaze locked on you. A blonde guy wearing a puka shell necklace like he’s on Hawaii Five-0 points to a beach volleyball net that’s just been vacated, and you and your friends follow him.
It’s two versus two; Muscles is serving as a referee for this game. You and Puka Shell are on a team, and Long Hair and the only other girl in your group stand on the other side of the net. You serve, the girl returns it, Puka Shell lobbies it to you, and you spike it back, surprising yourself.
Eddie clenches his fist until he feels the ice cream cone begin to break when your teammate wraps his arms around you in a hug. Jesus H. Christ, whatever happened to high-fives? But he knows that he’d envy any little touch these guys got from you.
He tries to distract himself, asking Ryan if he’s excited for his birthday, but he’s only half-listening.
“What do you want for a gift?” he asks, raising his eyebrows when his sons look at him curiously. “What?”
“I just said I wanted a new Lego set,” Ryan says. He’s not annoyed, just confused. “Are you feeling okay, Daddy?”
“Maybe he has scurvy,” Luke suggests, “like the pirates in that movie we watched.”
“‘M fine,” Eddie reassures them. It takes a second for him to register what Luke’s suggested. “Did you just say I had scurvy?”
There’s no time for Luke to elaborate—not that Eddie necessarily wants him to—before your joyous squeal filters through the air. It seems as though you and Puka Shell won the game, because he’s twirling you around triumphantly.
Does she want him picking her up? Touching her? Eddie’s inner monologue runs wild. Okay, she’s laughing and smiling, so that’s good. She’s fine with it; yeah, so that’s fine. Everything’s fine. We’re all fine here. She’s with her friends, I’m a married man here with my kids, and that’s all there is to it.
The whistle and boom of the first firework lighting the sky is a welcome distraction. Ryan lets out a gasp as he stares in awe of the red shooting through the dark sky. Luke scoots backwards and plops himself in Eddie’s lap. He leans against Eddie’s chest and lays his head back on his shoulder as he becomes engrossed in the spectacle. It’s been a while since Luke’s sat in his lap like this, so it brings a smile to Eddie’s face.
Mixtures of red, white, and blue fireworks crackle through the air, occasionally making shapes other than the usual spherical pattern that shimmies down. Eddie looks over at Ryan, who has a bright grin on his face. The red firework currently popping off leaves a scarlet shadow behind on his older son’s face. Beyond Ryan, Eddie glimpses a view of you watching the fireworks. You’re still with your friends, but you’re sitting a little bit in front of them with your legs crossed and your elbows resting on your knees. There’s a peaceful joy on your face and it makes Eddie’s heart give a few thumps harder than usual. Your friends behind you are talking but you couldn’t seem to care less about what they’re saying. You’re solely focused on the show in the sky. Eddie looks back at his kids and sees them just as mesmerized by the bursting colors. Luke snuggles back against his chest and Eddie is filled with warmth. He wraps his arms loosely around Luke and rests his head against his son’s smaller one as he looks up and joins in watching the celebration.
By the time the fireworks are done, Eddie’s pretty sure his hearing is damaged. Didn’t I used to play in a metal band? Jesus, I’m getting old. Luke springs up from his dad’s lap and Ryan stands up and stretches his arms out over his head, releasing a long yawn.
“How was that?” Eddie asks as he collects the beach towels they had been sitting on.
“So cool!” Luke says, jumping as if to emphasize his point.
“I like the ones that make the fizzy noises as they go out,” Ryan says as he picks up the empty Burger King bag and balls it up in his hands.
“My favorite are the ones that go pheeeeew,” Luke attempts to mimic the whistle, “then BANG!”
“What about you, Daddy?” Ryan asks.
“Hmm,” Eddie hums as he considers the question. “The ones that were shaped like circles. They looked pretty cool. Okay, now come on and take my hands, guys. It’s gonna be like a stampede getting out of here.” Eddie tucks the towels under one arm and offers a hand to each son.
They only make it about five steps before Luke is groaning. “It’s going to take forever to—hey! Look!”
Both Eddie and Ryan turn their heads to look in the direction that Luke is pointing. Eddie’s heart stalls in his chest. Luke’s grinning from ear to ear as he notices you walking with your friends. Ryan gives a gasp of delight when his eyes land on you as well.
“I’m gonna go say hi!” Luke exclaims, and he’s already halfway to you before Eddie can even open his mouth.
“Luke, I—ugh, shit.” Eddie mumbles the last part under his breath as he leads Ryan by the hand over to you and your friends. Luke is already in your arms by the time they get there.
“And then the red one went higher than all the others! And I think it had the loudest boom, too,” Luke is saying. You look up and the brightest smile lights up your face as you see Eddie and Ryan standing there.
“Hey, strangers,” you greet and Ryan dives in for a hug. You chuckle and wrap your arms around him too.
Long Hair is standing to the side, slightly closer to Eddie than he is to you, and the rest of your friends are behind you. He gives a small chuckle at the intensity of the hugs the kids give you before turning to Eddie and saying, “You want a hug, too?”
You jab Long Hair in the ribs with your elbow, but that only makes him chuckle more and wrap an arm around you to pull you back against him. This time, Eddie notices, you don’t have the same enthusiastic grin that you had earlier in the evening. It takes everything in his power not to pry you from his arms.
“I’ll see you guys on Monday, yeah?” you ask the Munson men, desperate to fill the silence.
“Usual time and place,” Eddie says. The words would usually be accompanied by a wink or a smirk, but something about being around these college guys is grating on his nerves and it’s the closest he’s felt to being intimidated since he was a senior in high school—the first time.
“Bye!” both boys call and wave at you before walking away with their dad. You wave in return, but it looks pitiful compared to their enthusiastic ones.
As soon as they’re out of earshot, you pull out of your friend's arm and spin around to face him. “Peter, do you ever shut up?”
“Calm down,” Peter says, exhaling a sound that’s a mixture of a laugh and a scoff. “This guy’s old enough to be your dad.”
Tony smirks and rests a muscled arm on Paul’s shoulder. “Maybe she’s into the whole ‘daddy’ thing.”
The eye roll you give them is involuntary. “You guys are assholes!”
Turning on your flip flop heel, you spin in the other direction and jog a bit until you catch up with Eddie and the boys.
“Hey! Where are you going?” Paul asks.
A soft, gentle hand lands on Eddie’s shoulder and he looks back to see you offering him an apologetic smile.
“I’m sorry if my friends were weird…and I’m sorry if I’m making this weirder.”
Eddie’s entire demeanor changes; despite having to watch you flirt with those douchebags—and then being mocked by them—he can’t help but soften towards you. “Nah, Sweetheart, you’re good. Be safe tonight, okay?” Be safe? Seriously, Munson? What are you, her grandpa?
You don’t seem to notice the way he bites his tongue, trying to quell the surge of embarrassment. “I always am,” you say reassuringly. “See you Monday?”
Eddie nods as you turn around to head back to your friends, utterly oblivious to the way your natural beauty outshines the brightest firework tonight. You’re everything he could ever want, but you’re young and gorgeous with a million better prospects than an old married man.
He takes one last look at you before he brings the boys to the car. The passenger seat is empty, and he wears a sad smile when he thinks about you sitting there, excitedly chatting with him and the kids about the evening. Eddie would rest his hand on your thigh while he drives back home, and once Ryan and Luke are sound asleep, you and Eddie could make some fireworks of your own.
Shaking his head, Eddie pulls out from the parking spot and braces himself for the holiday traffic. He grumbles some swear words under his breath, flicking on the radio to the first station that doesn’t have commercials.
“…say I’m not so tough, just because I’m in love with an uptown girl.”
He leans back in his seat and taps out the rhythm on the steering wheel. Funny, he’s never really been a Billy Joel fan, but something about this song reminds him of—
“Dad! Luke’s looking at me!”
“He looked at me first!”
“Both of you close your eyes,” Eddie orders. He can’t see whether or not they listened, but the squabbling stopped, so he’ll consider it a victory.
“Uptown girl, she’s my uptown girl…”

You know what🧐 I wouldn’t mind a “A Day in the Life of Frost/POV I ain’t gonna lie he has been growing on me😭 he really be there for reader and joker like he’s giving mad father figure vibes😭 plus I want to see him and his daughter’s interaction some more
His Lighthouse: A Frosty Outlook (LedgerJoker x f!reader)
A Frosty Outlook- Oneshot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this house we stan Frost. I was inspired to write this by this post lol. I hope you enjoy!
Side note: I suck at writing first person so its not a true POV but its still good. I had too much fun with this one but when don't I have fun?
There is a slight irregularity with this fic being canon with His Lighthouse. In the series chapter Fear Is the Only Way, Joker told Frost “I didn’t know you had a family...” to which Frost fired back saying “I didn’t know you had a girl.”
This is pure sarcasm, people. Joker knows that Frost has a daughter and Frost obviously knows that Joker has a (future) girlfriend. But denial is a river in Egypt. Once again, I hope you enjoy I made myself cross eyed trying to edit this in the dark lol.

There was no such thing as a day off when you work for a literal madman.
Frost knew that better than anyone as the right hand man to The Joker. Work never stopped. There was always someone to kill, money to collect, a city to burn, on top of personal errands and/or favors to run on Joker's behalf. There was always something to do.
There was hardly any time for a personal life which was why majority of the people under Joker's employ did not have families or loved ones. It interfered with work, made a person distracted, and Joker did not like distractions. However, Frost was an exception.
Frost and Joker went wayyy back and he was the closest thing to a friend that J had. Frost was the first henchman that Joker hired and a decade later, he was still the man to call on in any situation.
Trust and unwavering loyalty were forged from their mysterious bond and so rules that would normally apply to Joker's employees became more lax when it pertained to Frost.
He received a higher pay, had actual benefits and health care, and most importantly.. Frost was allowed days off. Not in the traditional sense– he never turned off his phone, but he was given time away from the gang to spend time with his family.
Joker would always be a priority in Frost's life but his little girl came first.
In the beginning she was a mistake. Frost was prepared to walk out on his lover at the time until she slapped a sonogram on the table.
The second Frost's eyes laid on his baby girl; he was a changed man. He thought about quitting Joker's gang but no one ever quits and remains alive, so he confronted Joker about his current dilemma.
"Who's baby? Eck, get rid of it." Joker cringed and kept walking into his office but stopped when Frost spoke up.
"She's mine, Joker. She's... I never asked you for anything so hear me out. I ain't giving her up and I'm not leaving your employ so.." The office was quiet as Frost's words tapered off.
Joker nodded and sat down at his desk. He knew Frost long enough to know the man's mind was made up. No ounce of torture was going to sway him and bribery didn't work on the guy.
Joker decided to compromise to keep his best employee.
"Fine. Keep it, buttttttttt on one con-dit-ion." J picked up the sonogram and tried his hardest to identify it as a human being. To him it looked like a grey blob but this blob meant so much to his fellow comrade.
"I get to name her." Joker said.
Frost quickly protested but after one look into Joker's demented eyes, he knew he had no say in the matter.
"It'll be my uhh, bargaining chip just in case ya ever try to walk away. Don't you think that's fair Frost-y? I name the kid and she and her.... uh mother don't wind up in a ditch. Deeeeal?"
Frost was making a deal with the devil but he couldn't lose his unborn girl. He'd explain this to his baby mama later, right now he leaned forward and shook hands with his boss.
He just hoped Joker didn't pick some outlandish name.
Tumblr media
"Don't forget your lunch, Gen."
Frost held up the overly decorated lunch bag outside the car window for his daughter to grab. She smiled in thanks and leaned forward to peck Frost on the forehead.
"Thanks Dad!"
He watched her disappear into the school with a rare smile on his lips. It quickly faded away when his phone rang. He had the ringtone memorized and answered it with a heavy sigh.
"Come. Get. Her before I.. I... shuT UP, Y/n!"
Frost heard you in the background shouting at his boss but he couldn't pick up anything you were saying. Regardless, you sounded upset.
The two of you were having another lover's spat and if Frost didn't come and break it up, Joker might do something he'd regret for the rest of his life.
Frost cranked up his truck and held the phone to his ear, "Don't commit any acts of murder, I'm on the way."
Times like this Frost truly believed he had three children instead of one. And just like that his rare day off was gone.
He arrived in the private apartment garage exactly twenty four minutes after he received Joker's call. Frost wasn't allowed up to your floor– no one was anymore– but this was an emergency. Frost would deal with getting yelled at later if it resulted in saving your life.
Hopefully you were still alive to save. Joker might be in denial but he loved you unconditionally. If he hurt you during one of his mood swings— Frost shuddered at the thought.
Frost nodded at his fellow henchman in passing as he called for the elevator to come pick him up. Joker took your safety very seriously and assigned a few of his most loyal men to work at your residence undercover as a first line of defense.
It would take a calculated and deliberate attack for someone to reach your private floor without Joker knowing about it.
Frost was walking off the elevator on your designated floor when the front door flew open.
You emerged dressed to the nines with a purse flung over your shoulder. Joker was hot on your heels until you spun around and told him off.
"Screw you and the plane you flew in on! Call me after you get some act right and not a minute before!!"
Frost interpreted his boss's glare as you boarded the elevator. Joker might be upset with you right now but the warning was clear.
Guard her with your life or I'll kill you.
Frost didn't need to be told to do his job. You gave Joker a purpose in life other than destroying the world. Frost respected you greatly and held you in high regard for that.
Frost would protect Joker's Light to his dying breath. You didn't need to know that though. Frost did have a reputation to uphold.
There was an awkward silence as the elevator door slowly enclosed you inside the lift with Frost. He covertly glanced down at you and met a head full of curls.
Today your voluminous hair was untamed and wild about your shoulders. The only thing styled was your baby hairs swept back in a carefree, but deliberate fashion with gel. A fitting style for your fiery mood. Your overall sense of fashion always fascinated him.
"Wanna talk about it?" Frost asked somewhere around the tenth and ninth floor down.
You sighed while shaking your head. "I'm sorry that he called you. I know today's your day off." You laughed at Frost's curious frown.
"I figured since it's his day off as well. You know I tried to get him to go out and do something legal with me but he just snapped saying, 'he's not normal so why bother? He doesn't do normal. I guess he's having one of those days today."
Both of you knew Joker's mood was unpredictable and his bad days were atrocious to deal with. Half the time you left the clown to his own devices until he was calm enough to tolerate, but today just your presence in the apartment set him off.
Joker needed alone time and you were okay with that. However you wouldn't let him talk to you any kind of way.
The floor numbers ticked lower and lower as you and Frost stood in silence. You glanced up at him lost in thought.
On the outside he was a terrifying guy. Tall, bulky frame with a permanent scowl on his face. His dark eyes and the deep scar that split his eyebrow made him appear unapproachable but you knew Frost had a heart of gold. He cared about Joker and subsequently you when he didn't have to. Frost lived up to his nickname but there was more to the guy. The writer in you could tell.
"Enough about him. I don't wanna ruin the day. Hey? What do you normally get into on your day's off?" You playfully nudged Frost's arm. The man didn't move an inch.
He was quick to reply. "Nothing."
The doors dinged open and he didn't wait up for you, he just started walking towards his truck. You were left behind to marvel at the giant vehicle that Frost expected you to climb into.
You were a short thing; even wearing heels, how did he expect you to...?
"Grab onto the sidebars and hop in. Geez.. if my daughter can do it, you can too." Frost grumbled from the driver's side.
You did as you were told with great difficulty and managed to buckle into your seatbelt. Then you ran back what Frost said.
"Daughter? Oh yeah! I remember you saying I'm stubborn just like her long ago. How is she?"
It was quiet in the cabin. You looked over at Frost finding that he was already staring at you. "What?"
His frown was deeper than normal. "Why are you asking?"
Granted no one in the gang knew about his daughter except you and Joker, it was still a shock to hear someone genuinely ask about her well-being. Frost made triple sure that no one knew about his little family of one.
But you were different. An aura surrounded you— heck it was the reason why Joker named you his Light– that just oozed out of you. You truly cared about people and you weren't going to let this go.
You rolled your eyes as Frost cranked up his truck. "Uh because I want to know how she's doing? That's why I asked. You never did mention how old she is."
Frost gave you a side eye as he drove out of the garage and onto Gotham City streets. He honestly had no idea where to take you. Joker didn't say where to go, just to come get you.
Frost waited until he was at a red light to answer your question as vaguely as possible. "I know I didn't."
You hummed and glanced out the window. It didn't take a scientist to understand that Frost's daughter was not a topic he wished to discuss but you weren't about to spend the rest of the day in absolute silence with him.
Frost was a difficult man to read. He was a man of few words and lived up to his descriptive name. You'd rather take a chance of Joker strangling you to death back at the penthouse than be stuck with his six foot something iceberg all day.
"Can I at least go shopping?" You ignored the low irritated sigh you heard from the driver. "If I had a female companion we could shop together and not bother my annoyed bodyguard on his day off."
The light turned green and you felt the truck shift gears as it moved. "No."
"Oh come on! She's fully aware of what you do so it's perfectly fine if she and I meet! Is she young? Still in school? Ooh, maybe in college? What's her major? You can at least tell me her name. C'mon Frost, give me something to work with!"
You faced him with a pout but then realized he wasn't Joker and that wouldn't work. You had no leverage with Frost. He was just as mysterious as J like two peas in a pod.
So you applied the same logic! Joker hated when you became quiet and closed yourself off.
You crossed your arms and continued looking out the passenger window in silence. It took a couple of city blocks but before long, you could see Frost glancing your way every odd minute or so.
"What're you over there thinking? Hey."
You turned your head so he couldn't see your grin. He couldn't see anything with your natural curls in the way.
Frost growled to himself as he kept driving. It had been no more than fifteen minutes since he picked you up and he was already at his wits end. No wonder Joker couldn't say no to you. You had to possess some kind of powers of coercion. There was no other explanation as to why Frost wanted to keep you happy.
"D__n you woman.." Frost said under his breath. He hoped he wouldn't regret this.
The truck veered roughly to the side as he made an illegal u-turn. Your body collided roughly into the door and you were about to give Frost a mouthful if not for his grumpy frown and death grip on the steering wheel.
You did not want two men angry at you on the same day so you sat back and let Frost drive you to who knows where.
He pulled the truck into a parking spot at a public school forty five minutes later.
You glanced around and arched an eyebrow in intrigue. He turned the truck off and made a show of pocketing the keys. Like you could drive this beast of a truck if you wanted to. You had on vintage platform heels. There was no way you were scuffing them up.
Frost faced you to sound off his rules. "Stay here. Don't get out. Don't talk to anyone. I'll be back." He ordered.
He didn't wait for your response, he just got out and stormed across the school lawn towards the entrance. And just because he was cruel, he mashed the lock button on his key fob, locking you inside.
First period wasn't over when Frost walked through the school's main entrance. Not many students were in the halls— most likely in class, but a few facility members stared at him in passing. It was hard not to.
Frost was used to the stares. He didn't necessarily blend in with the whole school aesthetic. He wasn't a PTA member or a doting father dropping off forgotten lunches.
He was a tall, burly man who screamed of trouble. It would be common sense to be wary or to call the police. His stony aura created a bubble around him and everyone kept a wide berth as he navigated the halls towards the admin office.
There was a woman seated at the front desk but shockingly she wasn't afraid when Frost walked up with a permanent frown carved on his face.
She just looked up and greeted him warmly. "Ah Mr. Myers! Did she forget her lunch this morning? I can take it to her after first period."
Ms. Tammy was always nice and never judged Frost by his appearance but rather by the way he cared for his daughter. Frost was a better father than the white collar dads on the school's chair board. He was alright in her book even if he didn't appear 'father material.'
"No. I want to pull Gen out for the day. Family emergency or whatever." Frost grumbled.
The school only allowed an allotted amount of excuses per school year, but his girl was an A+ student and never missed class. Today would actually be her first offense.
Ms. Tammy nodded and grabbed a form for him to fill out. "I understand. They deserve their days off too. Just sign that dear and I'll go fetch her for you."
Frost nodded and clicked a pen to use. Most of the fields didn't apply to him but it couldn't be left empty. He made up some passable excuse and half hardly signed his fake name on the dotted line. It only took him a minute to complete.
He was forever grateful that his daughter carried her mother's maiden name.
It was the only favor his ex managed to extend before she left without a trace. Legally, Gen wasn't tied to Frost and he preferred it that way should something bad ever happen and his enemies try and find a weakness of his.
In the meantime, he glanced around the admin office to pass the time.
The school wide bulletin board caught his eye. Nothing of importance was posted on the overly bright eyesore, but he did acknowledge the annual Father-Daughter dance that was scheduled in two month's time. He wondered if his daughter would like to attend before she got too old for the age requirement.
Probably not since she didn't want her friends knowing about her criminal dad.
Each year prior she made up an excuse to not go. Studying for a test, being too tired, etc. but Frost knew the truth. She'd be bullied and harassed if it came out he was her father.
Frost wished he could go to school events and be more proactive in her academics. He never missed recitals or science fairs but he was forced to watch from the shadows and not be seen as the supportive father he was.
It was the only drawback of his profession. Frost wasn't allowed to be normal, not even around his own child. Either way, he ripped a flyer off the board and shoved it into his pocket to bring up later.
He was brought out of his musing by Ms. Tammy returning into the office with a student in tow.
Frost's cold facade cracked at the sight of his daughter. She was the only thing in this life that could get a reaction out of him.
"Omg dad what's wrong? Ms.T said there was an emergency!"
Ms. Tammy giggled and returned to her post behind the desk. She noticed the dismissal form and tucked it into an organizer bin for later.
"Have a good day you two!" She waved them goodbye and resumed her work.
Frost said nothing as he nodded at his daughter to walk out the office. She rolled her eyes at her father's lack of response. It wasn't uncommon, he always explained things in private.
He made sure no one was watching as the both of them walked out the school and out to the parking lot. Gen was heading towards the front seat when Frost finally spoke up. "Get in the back." He urged.
"What, why? I always ride shotgun. Ooh! Does this mean I can drive today then?" She grinned in delight.
"No."
Gen pouted but hauled herself up to open the backdoor. One of these days dad was gonna say yes.
She froze the moment she saw someone in the passenger seat and her gasp made you turn around in shock.
You were jamming out to music playing from your phone when they came back. Your coloured eyes clashed with her brown ones. Frost watched the staring contest unfold with a sigh. This was exactly what he wanted to avoid. You were the first to break the rift.
"SHE IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! ARE YOU SURE SHE'S YOURS?" You asked Frost.
He took offense to your question even if the resemblance was non-existent. It wasn't the first time someone questioned if his daughter was his and it wouldn't be the last.
"What the f__k is that supposed to mean?" He argued. You sucked your teeth and eyed the young girl again.
"Well..." You were going to state the obvious until the teenager in the backseat finally got over her shock and spoke up.
".... Dad. Who's this?"
Frost stared at the two females in his truck. It was best to get this over with. He sighed and turned to face the backseat a little better.
"Y/n, this is my daughter Genesis. Gen this is..." Frost stalled and the two of you looked at him, patiently waiting for an explanation.
You knew what Frost wanted to say and shot a nervous glance at his daughter. Genesis looked about seventeen yet wise beyond her years to know the truth. There was an uneasy gleam in her eye and you didn't want her thinking ill of you or her father. So you quickly came to Frost's defense.
He wasn't one to communicate delicate topics like this anyways.
"I'm his Boss's partner. It's nice to meet you!" You smiled at Gen and she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh bet. I thought you were f__king my dad. You are way too pretty for him." She turned to fasten her seatbelt and didn't notice her father's reaction. He was catching strays left and right today.
"Again. What the f__k is that supposed to mean?" He asked no one in particular.
"Nothing dad it's just.. I mean. Like you're an attractive guy..."
You noticed her struggling and added in your input. "8 of 10 would smash." You nodded. Frost looked at you in horror. Then you realized what you just confessed. "Oh God. Please don't tell him that."
"Do I look like I want to be murdered with a vegetable peeler?" The truck got awkward real quick as everyone imagined Joker killing someone with such a common kitchen tool. It was doable..
Genesis coughed. "Anyways.. I'm just glad there's nothing going on between the two of you but it doesn't explain why you pulled me from school today."
You raised your manicured hand. "Guilty! I wanted a shopping partner for the day!"
The truck was silent for a long stretch of time before Genesis turned to her dad with a serious expression. "Dad, is she like his bimbo or... what?"
Frost huffed and it was the closest thing to a laugh you ever heard from him. You were sitting next to a stranger right now. Frost never smiled. Ever. Much less laughed at something that was said.
You were seeing him with brand new eyes. It was refreshing to know his frosty exterior could melt to a normal human being underneath.
The comment was a bit funny since Frost thought the same thing about you the first time Joker invited him to your apartment.
Surrounded by luxury and on the top floor no less, Frost thought that you were just a run of the mill bimbo that Joker was taking advantage of. He'd seen you from your tv appearances. You were just a waft of a girl, always dressed up in pretty things– batting your long lashes and drawing silly hearts next to your signatures.
If Frost went by appearances only he would have labeled you a bimbo and kept it moving.
Frost was ready to kill you off the second Joker snapped his fingers but then you showed your true colors and captured everyone under your spell.
Whether he admitted it or not, Joker fell in love with you and Frost hadn't seen his old companion this happy in decades. You unlocked something good within Joker and as a result, you earned respect in Frost's book.
He'd do anything to keep you safe and happy so you could continue to shine a light on Joker.
You were a perfect match for the Clown Prince of Crime even if you acted like an airhead sometimes. It was a part of your character; however, you were educated behind your designer threads and jewels.
Frost had to give you some credit.
"No. Y/n is actually a Gotham City's best selling author. She wrote that novel you like. The one with the archer I think." He cranked up the truck.
They wasted too much time chatting. It was time to go. Gen's jaw dropped and she leaned over the console to stare at you more closely. How could she be so dense not to notice you?!
"Wait? You're that Y/n?! Omg, WHB was such a page tuner! And like Hunter is so hawt! Like, chase me in the woods anytime papi, hot! Ugh and that cabin scene when he—" She glanced at her father distracted by driving before stage-whispering to you.
"The smut was immaculate." She giggled into your ear.
You burst out laughing and had to cover your mouth when Frost sent you an annoyed glare.
He drowned out the sound of you two gossiping to focus on the road. He only interrupted the 'juicy' book discussion to ask what store you wanted to go to first.
He already knew your favorites from previous trips and from his time on security detail, yet you surprised him by picking one of Genesis' favorites.
Frost glanced through the rearview mirror at Gen. She was none the wiser given that she was too busy smiling and getting along with you. It was as if the two of you were lifelong friends catching up on old times.
Frost assumed you two would click since the age difference was less than ten years.
He just was happy that his girl had someone to talk to, at least for the day. Genesis didn't bring home any friends (for obvious reasons) nor did she talk about any. If she didn't excel in her academics, Frost would've been concerned. It was only natural for a father to be worried about their daughter's social growth. He didn't want his occupation to stunt Genesis' upbringing.
Frost was turning into a parking space in the mall's parking lot when he heard your probing question.
"Genesis, is there any special occasion coming up you wanna shop for?" Your kind smile was gentle and patient, knowing the teenager was hesitant to answer. You were her age before, you knew why.
"Well um..."
"Come on, 'Sis, don't be shy! It's just you and me and the grumpy chaperone pretending not to listen." You turned to glare at Frost. "Can you not?"
He narrowed his brown eyes and tried not to bare his teeth at you. He knew that tone. You wanted him out of the picture.
Like that was happening. He honestly didn't like having you out at such a public place. This was gonna make his job all the more harder trying to protect you and his little girl but it wouldn't be impossible.
He thought you would know the rules by now, "Boss's orders. You don't leave my sight."
"Frost, we will be fine. If I feel like I'm in danger, I'll scream. Go.. I dunno, check out some knives or whatever men do at malls." You snickered and Genesis joined in from the backseat.
She didn't understand why you needed security but that due to her being in the dark regarding Joker's gang. She knew her dad was a criminal, the worst of the worst, but he was still her father in her eyes. The level of danger you could be in went right over her head.
Knowing that her dad was technically on the clock right now was a hard concept to grasp. She glanced at him, noticing his guarded glare and sharp eyes already scanning the area as everyone got out the truck.
It was cool to see him in his element of sorts.
Although she felt wholly underdressed in her jeans, graphic tee, and chucks standing next to you.
You looked like a dark skinned doll wearing a light colored pleated skirt that fluttered in the wind. Your ensemble was preppy chic teetering on Lolita and it didn't help that your hair tumbled down your back just like a doll. She admired your soft aesthetic with your winged collar, lace bow ties, and pearl accessories.
Everything just worked perfectly to create an adorable outfit.
You adjusted your cardigan better and checked your lip gloss in the truck's back window. Your naïve humming floated in the air.
Both Frost and Gen looked on in a mixture of intrigue and exasperation.
"You look fine. Let's go." Frost grumbled.
He averted his eyes from your adorable pout. He was not Joker, he would not crack under your charm. Frost did crack a smile when you and Genesis walked into the mall linking arms like two high schoolers.
With your dumb outfit and short stature, at least you looked the part.
Tumblr media
He didn't let the two of you out of his sight but he took your disapproving glare as a sign to back off some. People were beginning to stare at the scary looking guy following two girls around.
Frost became a shadow as you and Genesis filtered around the mall, ooh and ahhing at every little thing that caught your eye. He lost count how much of Joker's money you blew through. Quite frankly Frost didn't care. His job was to hold the bags that the two of you couldn't carry and keep you safe.
Frost wasn't too upset about his current degrading role.
Genesis' happiness was his only concern and today he got to see a rare smile brighten her face. She was laughing and having fun like someone her age should. She needed female bonding time and you were definitely making up for years of neglect.
He lost sight of the two of you during his musing and quickly went into a calm but panic induced mode.
You watched Frost rush the opposite way of where you and Genesis were currently hiding.
"Um. I don't think this is a good idea.. Dad said to stay in his line of sight." Genesis' brown eyes shifted down to the potted plant she hid behind. You waited until Frost was long gone before standing up and brushing off your pleated skirt.
"It'll be fine 'Sis! I remember when I was your age. Sneaking off at the mall to shop at specific stores was virtually impossible with my parents around. Now! Are you going to that Father-Daughter dance your school is having?"
Gen quickly grew defensive, "How did you know about that?" She hadn't mentioned it in conversation but you waved off her concern.
"Your dad sucks at hiding things. I saw the flyer when he got in the truck. It's formal attire so you need a jaw dropping dress that he totally won't approve of but will make all the girls in your class jealous! I know just the store too."
Your e/c gleamed under the mall's bright lights. It had been a while since you got to dress someone up. Gen's hesitant hum though made you pause.
"Well actually I don't wanna make her jealous. M-More like I wanna impress her, like really impress her.." Genesis winced at your stupefied look. She honestly didn't expect you to understand.
It took you a few seconds to process her statement.
"Oh." You said. "Okay, that changes things. You need something eye catching, I gotcha! Same store so let's–"
You were about to walk off when Genesis grabbed your arm, stopping you in your tracks. She was still rather bashful yet somewhat hopeful when she met your eye.
"Woah wait a min, Y/n! Don't think that's like... weird? I just said I wanted to impress a girl? Not a guy." Her hand fell from your arm as she picked at her nails. It was a nervous habit she was trying to grow out of.
One you filed away for later. Your heels clicked sharply on the mall's linoleum floor and your mess of curls fell off your shoulder when you tilted your head in confusion.
"And? Genesis. I'm dating a psychopath who frequently dresses up in a nurse outfit, wig and all. I'm in no position to judge your preference for a partner." You laughed but quickly frowned when Gen groaned in frustration.
"No no no! That's the thing!! I read your trilogy and I'm attracted to Hunter. Strong, dominant, alpha guys are hot but I also like how Jordan makes me feel. She's... ugh. You remind me a lot of her. Bubbly, confident, always wearing pretty outfits like she's going to GC fashion week and not English 1 at eight o'clock in the morning. She's so pretty and I probably don't stand a chance but I wanna try!"
You eyed Genesis differently as she stood before you coming out yet still unsure of herself. Your lips parted to speak but she cut you off, going on another nervous rant.
"I'm just so afraid and not about asking her out but of what my dad will say! Like, I'm his perfect girl! I get perfect grades, I don't get into trouble, and I'm home before the street lights come on! I already have pending scholarships! Y/n, what if he doesn't approve?" Gen switched to picking at her lips.
Your heart went out to her but you still didn't see the problem. You playful scoffed and replied.
"Again, Genesis. Your dad works for that same psychopath who dresses up as a nurse. Frost has seen plenty of things in his line of business. I don't think he'll judge you. And guess what? It's your choice so if he shockingly disapproves, then tell him to shove it and move in with me. Now.. I think... blue is your color. I feel a rich indigo would bring out your melanin and I'm here for it. That is, if you want to wear a dress? I honestly don't wanna assume again."
You sent Genesis a sympathetic smile but jumped when she tackled you in a hug.
You almost lost your balance since the girl was taller than you even in heels. Just what were they feeding kids these days..
She sang out a string of thank yous and rocked you in her arms. You patted her on the back and wheezed out a 'can't breathe.'
"Sorry." Gen let you go. She watched your lashes flutter as you caught your breath. "Yeah, umm. I haven't worn a dress in ages. C-Can you help me find one?"
She regretted asking the moment she saw your eyes light up like fireworks. Shopping with you was both fun and exhausting.
Tumblr media
The scolding the both of you received once Frost found you exiting a high end lingerie store was epic. Frost literally had steam coming out his ear, he was so furious.
"I thought since you're an adult you would have some common sense Y/n! I told you not to leave my sight and the two of you wandered off for two hours! F__k you're a terrible influence. If something had happened, not only would he kill me, he'd kill Gen for being involved. Is that what you want? Murder all around?"
Genesis felt awful but wisely hid her racy purchases behind her back until her dad was in a better mood.
She hated when he was angry but she had no dog in this fight. She told you it was a bad idea to shake off dad's surveillance.
You on the other hand were used to being yelled at. Joker gave you plenty of practice.
You simply rolled your eyes. "Frost stop overreacting. Nothing happened so don't dwell on the past. We got far more shopping done with you not slowing us down. Anyhoo we're done here and.." You glanced down at your phone vibrating in your purse.
It was a string of text messages from J beginning with an apology along with questionable promises on how he could make up for his mistakes.
You did not want him killing a prominent political member in your name. You did consider his offer on buying you a pig. They were cute!
"I'm needed back home. Can you drop me off?" You asked Frost. His right eye was twitching.
You gave him headaches. He strangled the air in front of you, "I don't get paid enough for this." He growled.
You waved goodbye to Genesis as you walked into your apartment building an hour later. Two workers followed behind you carrying your many shopping bags.
Gen crawled into the front seat as Frost shifted gears to leave. It was a long day and he just wanted to go home and relax after babysitting you.
"H-Hey dad. Can I ask you something?" Gen asked. His soft hum was the only acknowledgment she would receive.
"Do you know that Father-Daughter dance at school– the one we never go to each year? Well, I've been thinking.. I kinda wanna go this year."
She snuck a glance over the console but Frost was still focused on traffic. He didn't show any signs of listening but still, she continued.
"I know its kinda last minute being its like in two months away and your... boss? Master? He who shall not be named? Whatever you call him, he doesn't like last minute requests but I wanna go. Can we?"
Frost sighed as the truck idled at a red light.
It was then he glanced over at his little girl. He was so lucky to have her. Genesis didn't look anything like him and he was forever grateful. He didn't want to curse her with his shortcomings because her beauty was so refined.
Genesis was all aristocratic lines and sharp features, perfectly balanced by her mother's warm complexion and hooded eyes. Gen had the face of ancient statues with deep rooted secrets evident in her full upturned lips and mirth forever shining in her dark brown eyes.
Frost often thought back to the day Joker named his daughter. The psychotic clown snuck into the labor and delivery floor to claim his end of the deal.
Frost stalled as long as he could when the nurses asked what to name his child and they found it odd that the mother didn't offer any input. The birth certificate was left blank until the middle of the night for J to come fill.
His green eyes were unreadable as he glared at the bouncy baby girl wide awake, waiting for him.
Frost was beyond terrified when Joker picked up his unnamed girl but shockingly the clown held her right and entered a staring contest with the infant.
Not once did she cry and much to Frost's horror, she smirked at Joker as if she knew something he didn't.
"Genesis." J mumbled.
"What?" Frost probably heard that wrong. Was that the name Joker had picked?!
Frost was expecting something stupid like initials that spelled out TNT or a play on words like, Dianamite. Joker was full of surprises after all. One couldn't be too sure.
Joker purred as he tickled Gen's cheek with his makeup stained hands. She cooed back and tried wiggling out her swaddle wrap to interact with this strange looking man.
"She's the ahh, beginning, to something greaT, Frosty. It's up ta her to figure out what."
And so Genesis was named.
Times like this Frost could see why Joker picked it. She was confident in her decision as if she already foreseen the outcome. Once she arrived at the dance with her father, it would open up a can of worms and questions, but she was ready to tackle them head on.
He couldn't be more proud.
Frost nodded sagely. "Hm, Good thing I bought a tux already. Y/n said to make sure it coordinated with something blue."
Genesis blinked before bursting out laughing. Of course you planned this.
She wouldn't expect anything else from a remarkable woman like you. You unknowingly brought her closer to her father in just one day. And tomorrow Gen would have the strength to come out to him.
"Yeah. Blue is perfect, dad."

Saw a family of deer (3) walking together while out on my walk, today.
Tumblr media
The island is full of deer. Wish we had bears in this area. I still really miss seeing black bears on my runs/walks when we lived on the mainland.
Today, I had comedy class. It ended really early because no one had much for new material. Feels like everyone is reeling in from the winter blues. I got in a few good jokes (I think), though. I believe I have enough new stuff to perform a really strong set at the April show.
I also had the cleaners come in which is nice. I’m so grateful for this. Then my parents came home and brought in a bunch of crap I’ve had in storage at their business warehouse for over a year (before that, it was in a storage locker for another year). I think if you haven’t looked at something for years, you can live without it. lol. I’ll keep a couple of books and a few pieces of heirloom jewelry and the rest can go. I told them I didn’t really want anything back but I guess they felt weird throwing out my stuff. lol.
I got an appointment notification for a CT scan in the beginning of April. Last time I had two requisitions get lost and had to wait an extra month. This time, they make me an appointment over a month early. Weird. Oh well. I’ll take it.
Yesterday was a busy day of running around and getting errands done. Also had to take the kid for physio and blood work. By the time I got home I was so sick to my stomach with horrendous stabbing gut pain that lasted until midnight. I ended up skipping my evening dose of chemo and not eating dinner. I’ve been slightly better today but the energy is exceptionally low. I did about a 30 minute walk with a break in between.
A friend of mine sent me a beautiful floral arrangement. It was so sweet and thoughtful of her. She lives in Saskatchewan and will be coming out to visit me next month. I’m really looking forward to that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next week is going to be busy but it’ll gradually slow down (hopefully) by mid-month. I’ve been also trying to move appointments online or over the phone (or have people come to me). I’m so tired of meetings and appointments. I have 4 sessions of Leader Training left and I’ll be super relieved when that’s complete. It was totally not what I was expecting. Lots of work and prep to the point where it’s given me anxiety and is effecting my sleep. There’s some things that I’ve enjoyed about it and I’m sure it doesn’t help that I’ve been fighting depression over the winter, but it’s been too much. (I think if I did this workshop in May or October, it would have been a lot better.) Today was dark and dreary, then it actually started snowing like crazy and then the sun came out briefly. West coast weather can be nuts but this is on a whole new level.
Anyway, I’m still trying. Taking it one day at a time.
I haven’t started this month’s book club book so I’m going to either get started on that or watch a movie.
Happy March 1st and Happy Friday!

I am absolutely delighted with your comic! Oooh but now I'm curious and want to know more about Lyla's parents 😭❤️ How did they meet, where did they come from, how was their first meeting, love at first sight or something worked out? I read that Mr. Estaris didn't know how to speak the language well, did that influence anything?
Tell me more 😫
AWW thank you so much! 😭 Sorry it took me a while to answer this because I was wondering about their backstory myself LOL. I know they met in their early 20s, but I'm still trying to figure out HOW they met 🤔
Right now, I have it in my head that Luis moved from the Philippines to London to start a new life, but unfortunately he didn't speak English very well. So he struggled to find work and meet new people for a while with what little English he knew 🥺
As for Ava, I'm thinking she grew up in a very strict household with her father in London. Once she began to excel in fencing and schooling, it was nonstop lessons every day. She was suffocating under the weight of her father's expectations 😣
Maybe they met while Ava was out on an errand and noticed Luis getting bullied by some locals? She comes to his aid, and it was IMMEDIATELY love at first sight for Luis LOL. After witnessing this beautiful woman tearing his bullies a new one, he was SOLD HAHAHA 🤣
I like to imagine that their first conversation was really awkward with the language barrier 😭😂 So Ava decides to teach him how to read and speak English, (initially out of pity) but they eventually became close friends! She was so drawn to his silly and kind nature, which was difficult to come by considering her upbringing. The thing she admired most about Luis was his ability to make the most out of every situation. Needless to say, she fell in love too 🤭💕 Of course Ava's father didn't approve, but they eloped anyways! A couple years later, they had Lyla 🥰💛
One of the things they had in common was their love for reading, so now they run a bookshop together (which is something I wish I figured out sooner so I could've included it in the Spring Break series 😭) They definitely would've let Sebastian take home a few Muggle books to read!

I Wish I Were… || TASM!Peter Parker x female!reader (Part 1)
Summary: You and Peter have been childhood friends, yet he doesn’t know how you really feel about him. When he falls for someone else, you use your musical talents as a way to express your feelings.
Word Count: 2.3k
Warnings: Angst, unrequited love (?)
A/N: Hi, everyone! This is my first fic ever, so please excuse the horrible writing. I’ve wanted to write this for so long now. I got the idea when I was listening to “Heather” by Conan Gray for the thousandth time that week. Obviously, I don’t own the song or its lyrics, so all credits go to the wonderful Conan Gray for that masterpiece. Also, this is not proofread, sorry lol
Tumblr media
You look at the sight before you. Spread out over the vibrant green grass were several couples having a picnic for the most romantic day of the year—Valentine’s Day. As you continue to walk through the park with a coffee in one hand and a muffin in the other, you notice how there are couples everywhere. The more couples you see, the faster you walk towards your destination. Of course you would forget about Valentine’s Day. It was the one day that you wish you could just skip altogether because it only served as a reminder that you were a victim of unrequited love. You near your best friend’s apartment building, quickly approaching the main entrance and climbing up the stairs. You knock twice on his door and wait for his response.
“If it’s you, y/n, you better have a good excuse for being this late,” he says as he opens the door. How anyone could ever miss this man’s beauty was still a mystery to you. Over the course of your friendship, only a few people had expressed interest in him. Most only saw him as the awkward nerdy guy whose forte was science and photography, not as someone who was sweet, caring, passionate, and attractive. But you saw him for who he truly was; it was exactly what had made you fall in love with him. His chocolate brown eyes looked at you with a hint of playful annoyance.
“I’m sorry, I got distracted by how many people were at the park today,” you admit as you enter his apartment. “I don’t know why I’m always surprised to see so many couples at the park, especially on a day like today. I never understood the appeal of eating on the ground while bugs try to eat your food. If I ever go out with someone, a picnic is the last thing I would do for a date”
“Really? I would do it if I had a girlfriend,” Peter states, “I mean, there’s nothing better than enjoying the fresh air while eating your favorite food with your favorite person. I think it would be nice, don’t you think?”
“Well, now that you put it that way, I don’t think it would be that bad,” you say while you hand him his breakfast. He takes it from you and gives you an adoring smile, one that usually makes you lose your train of thought.
As you both sit on his couch, Peter takes a sip of his hot drink and starts to remove the plastic wrap from the muffin.
“Oh, by the way, I’d love to introduce you to Gwen. I’ve been talking to her for a few months now, and I’m telling you, this girl is special,” he says as he takes a bite of the small domed cake. As he chews on the muffin, you notice how hard he’s trying to contain his smile.
That’s when it hits you—all those months of him canceling plans you had made together and ignoring your calls and texts suddenly made sense. He had been with her the whole time.
He doesn’t notice how your face falls as he says this. Instead, he continues by telling you all about this special girl. “There’s this fair that’s opening today. I know we made plans tonight to watch Back to the Future, but wouldn’t it be more fun for all three of us to go to this fair? That way you can meet her and we can hang out too. It’s a win-win situation, don’t you think?”
You drop your gaze, fearing that he could see the pain in your eyes.
“Yeah, sure. I need to go run some errands before we go out tonight. I’ll see you there, alright? Enjoy the muffin, bug boy,” you say as you rise and head towards the door.
As you walk down the stairs, you begin to question whether agreeing to meet Gwen was a good idea. Would you be able to handle seeing the two of them together, giving each other small smiles as they flirt back and forth? It probably wouldn’t be that bad, right? You’ve seen a few girls hit on Peter in the past. Even when he did flirt back, you always managed to suppress your jealousy, never letting it show on your face. You walk down the street, hoping that you had enough willpower to get through the night without breaking down.
As you approach the loud, vivid, and colorful scene before you, the sight of your favorite person holding the hand of a beautiful blonde catches your eye.
“Hey y/n!” Peter says as he sees you. He lets go of her hand and gives you a quick hug, almost as if he were afraid to touch you. “This is Gwen Stacy. And Gwen, this is y/n. We’ve been friends since the third grade. This one here was the only one that stood up for me when all those other kids made fun of me.”
“Yeah well, someone had to stop them from harassing the smartest and most kindhearted kid in our grade,” you answered as you and Peter gave share a small smile.
“That’s so sweet, I’m glad you guys remained friends after all these years,” the blonde says as she smiles brilliantly at you. All you could think about was how pretty and kind she seemed. It made sense why Peter had taken such interest in her.
“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go play some games!” he says as he pulls both of you toward the ring toss stand.
To no one’s surprise, Peter easily wins the game. As the employee hands Peter his prize, he looks at Gwen and says, “It must be nice to have a boyfriend to win you all the prizes you want, huh?” as he smiles at her.
“Yeah, I’m a lucky girlfriend indeed,” she says as grins at Peter.
“Oh, I didn’t realize you guys were officially dating,” you sputtered out.
“Well, it just happened a few minutes before you got here, actually,” Gwen beams at Peter. They smile at each other, Peter’s gaze going from Gwen’s lips to her eyes. He turns to look at you.
“Remember that blue sweater that I love so much? Well, when she mentioned she was cold, I gave her the sweater with a note on its front pouch,” he says as he reaches into his back pocket and shows you the note.
Property of Peter Parker.
Only the most special, gorgeous, and lovely girl is allowed to wear this sweater.
Will you be my girlfriend?
Until that moment, you had never experienced what true heartbreak felt like. Sure, you had moments of jealousy and sadness when you watched Peter flirt with other girls, but nothing could ever compare to what you are feeling now. You feel a tightness in your chest, making the air feel like razor blades moving through you. Your eyes welled with tears as you try to hold them back.
“That’s so sweet. I’m so happy for you guys,” you reply in a mumble as you look down to the ground. Peter gives you a smile and turns to Gwen, putting the note in his back pocket and leading her toward the other games.
You knew Peter expected you to follow them, but it was all becoming too much for you to handle. Afraid of letting Peter see just how devastated you are, you turn on your heel and rush toward the street. As he turns to look for you, he sees you quickly walking through the crowd before losing sight of you.
“Where’s y/n, Peter?” Gwen says as she, too, looks around to find you.
“I’m not sure,” he whispers in confusion as he pulls out his phone and calls you. It goes straight to voicemail. Little did he know, you had turned off your phone as soon as you had gotten into the cab. Peter’s worry for you grew, his brow furrowing in confusion. You had never acted this way, after all. What could have possibly triggered you so much that would make you do this?
You sit by your bedroom window, staring into the distance. New York City at night was beautiful; the countless lights in the buildings made you wonder about life. At times like these, it would suddenly hit you that each of those lights came from someone’s home and that each person had a life full of love and heartbreak; full of happiness and anger. They had their ups and downs, their own heart-rendering and joyful experiences. They were the main character in their own life, just like you were the main character in your own life. You wonder about the lives of the people in those buildings. Have they ever experienced heartbreak like yours? Did they know what it was like to love someone so deeply, know their deepest secrets, and yet only be able to love them from afar? Did they know what it was like to care so deeply for someone with the most dangerous job in New York City? While most could understand what heartbreak felt like, none could possibly understand exactly what you were going through. After all, there was only one person that knew Peter’s secret.
Even though you had supported Peter through every difficult moment—from comforting him while he grieved for his uncle to patching him up every time he came to your apartment after his patrols—you still weren’t enough for him, you think. It was all becoming overwhelming. You yearn desperately for relief from what seems like never-ending torture. You want to talk to someone about this, but doing so would require you to reveal Peter’s secret. Betraying your best friend like that was out of the question. No matter how much pain you are in, you know your secrecy is vital to his safety. While you know you’re doing the right thing, you have never felt as alone as you do now. You turn back to face your room, desperate to find a way to stop feeling so emotionally suffocated. While you may not be able to tell Peter how you really feel about him, using music is the perfect way to vent your frustration and hurt.
You quickly stand up from your bed, grabbing your songbook on your way out. You exit your bedroom and head towards your little music corner by the living room window. Flipping through the pages as fast as you can, you feel the sharp edge of a page cut your skin. Dropping the songbook, you cradle your hand instinctively. You look down at it, noticing how the small drops of blood emerge from the wound and meet the surface of your skin.
Huh, you think to yourself, I guess this is what I get for being so naive. I don’t know why I even thought Peter would ever look at me as someone more than a friend. Maybe the universe thought emotional pain wasn’t enough.
You gather yourself, knowing that concentrating on playing your music would take some of that pain away. Not the physical pain caused by the papercut, of course. But perhaps singing your heart out would bring some relief to your broken heart. As you carefully continue flipping through the pages and ignoring the stinging sensation on your finger, you find the song you had been working on for the past few years.
A song inspired by seeing your best friend with other girls, secretly hoping that you could be in their place. Though you hadn't finished writing the lyrics on your songbook, you were sure that it would still help nevertheless. Seeing Peter and Gwen together that night made you realize that you could never be her. You could never be what he not only wanted but needed. It was enough to inspire the rest of the lyrics for that song.
You turn to face your keyboard and begin playing. You start to sing softly, hoping that it would help you keep your tears at bay.
Only if you knew how much I liked you
But I watch your eyes as she
Walks by
What a sight for sore eyes
Brighter than the blue sky
She’s got you mesmerized while I die
As you continue to sing with more passion, you become unaware of the sound coming from your fire escape—the sound of feet hitting the metal, the sound of someone knocking on your bedroom window and opening it, and the sound of footsteps behind you. Peter walks quietly towards you, afraid of startling you. But as he listens to your voice, he begins realizing what the song is really about. He recognizes the details, feeling his heart skip a beat as he begins putting the pieces together: you being so distant that day, seeing your features twist in pain as he mentioned how he had given Gwen his favorite sweater, the one that he had allowed you to wear for years.
But you like her better
I wish I were…
Just as Peter is about to touch you, a sob escapes you, letting your shoulders drop in defeat.
Peter had never seen you in such pain. Guilt begins to gnaw at him. He turns his back on you and walks swiftly to the window, knowing full well that he needed to think things through before talking to you. As he prepares himself to swing toward his apartment, he hears your broken whisper, “I wish I could be enough for you, Pete.”
That day, Peter Parker—your childhood best friend and the person you loved the most in this world—was the one to cause your first heartbreak.
Please let me know if you’d like a part 2! <3

As someone who is entering their 20s got any advice? If you want to give some lmao
Aww thank you!!
Oh my GOSH yes I have so much! Literally never ask advice from me unless you want it lol because that's my personality I love to be the person who gives advice to friends.
Don't let fear make you miss out on things — solo traveling, taking that new job and leaving something comfortable, going on that date, etc
Prioritize friends who prioritize you. This one was hard for me but in my 20s I learned that people who make time for you are the ones worth your time and energy. All of my friends live in different cities and states and I make an effort with every single one of them and they do the same. People who you have to chase aren't worth your time.
Tell your family you love them! I lost my cousin when we were both 22. She was the closest thing I had to a sister, and I miss her all the time. I wish I could tell her I loved her one more time.
Invest in yourself. If you like workout classes over the gym, build that time into your schedule and budget for it if it's a priority. Buy the nicer sweater because it'll last 5x as long as the cheaper one. Dress up for work or a date or just to go run errands. If you feel better you'll be more successful!
Don't wait to do things. Drink the good wine on a Tuesday because why the hell not? Burn that special candle someone gifted you for no reason. Wear the pretty party dress you bought for a wedding out to dinner. Be your own main character!
Don't try to do too much. Feel free to narrow it down to what truly interests you. I spent way too much of my 20s trying to get into things I didn't really care about (critically acclaimed movies, workout classes that weren't a fit).
Don't be afraid to ask for help. Also, don't be afraid to voice your opinion or concern. I'm 30 and I still feel like a little kid sometimes when I share an opinion to someone older than me or maybe they're more advanced in their career or they hold a higher position than me. It's easy to feel intimidated by others and to think less of yourself. Guess what? They're just as scared and naive as you are! But maybe they hide it better. Don't be afraid to ask questions because you'll never know the answer if you don't.
You come first! Other people — romantic partners, even family — come second. Mental health is key. You can't care about people if you're not caring for yourself.
20s are great! You got this boo!

Flashing red and waving navy blue faded into the background as your gaze fell onto something shinning amongst it all.
You approached it, wading through navy bodies and hands that shot out to stop you. You would not be halted, you would reach your destination.
Black hair, that usually shot out in every direction, spilled flatly against the pale forehead, soaked by the onslaught of rain. Usually vibrant violet eyes were now dull and stared beyond you. His usual dark ensemble of clothing was stained darker.
You kneeled down, reaching your hands out, and gently brought his head into your lap. You wanted to say something. There were so many things that you wanted to say, but every time you tried to say something, your brain stopped you. So you simply sat and stared into those once familiar violet eyes.
You don't know how long you sat there, but eventually someone rested their hand on your shoulder.
"Satoru." You whispered, pausing before looking up at him. "Where did I go wrong?"
You don't know what kind of expression you were making, but it was enough for his jaw to drop and to take a stumble away from you.
Your gaze fell back into the violet.
Tumblr media
Megumi was having a rough adolescence. You would consistently get calls from his school, detailing you about his latest fight and that he would be staying late as punishment. You simply apologized. There was no need to say that he wouldn't do it again, because you knew that he would do it again. No need to make an ass of yourself.
You would wait for him to get home and confront him over dinner.
His answer was always the same: "I'm just doing what's right."
But was it really right when he was cracking jaws with his knuckles?
You decided to have Satoru try his hand at calming him, but that only seemed to aggravate him. Suddenly he wasn't just beating up bullies and instead kids who "bothered him". He wasn't staying to himself anymore, and instead he began hanging around some upper classmen named Sukuna. He came home later and later, bloody and bruised.
You had your suspicions, and they were confirmed when you stumbled upon Sukuna and his...friends while running errands. His friends called him by name, and you quickly glanced in his direction. You didn't need to stare because the arm and face tattoos were enough.
Sukuna was a gang leader,
and Megumi was a part of that gang.
You and Satoru's attempts to help guide him away from Sukuna's gang only lead him further and further away from you and closer and closer to ruin.
You only wish you could have known just how deep ruin was for your dear Megumi.
Tumblr media
"Satoru, where did I go wrong?"
One sentence that haunted him since it came from your mouth.
And when he looked at you.
You were crying, but your face was as blank as your gaze. Reminiscent of the violet ones that lay in the lifeless body in your lap.
He knew.
His worse fears had been realized.
Gojo Satoru was in fact not the strongest in the world. He was not a god who walked amongst men. He was human, he would die, and the world would move on without him.
Kuroo, one of the two dire wolves Megumi left behind, brushed up against him, whining softly.
He sighed deeply, pinching the bridge of his nose as he screwed his eyes shut.
"Is this how you felt, Suguru?"

There was a lot of present/past tense errors in here lol. A small bit of grammatical errors. And I changed a few things. Added the dogs into this (forgot I added them in the previous part).

I just reread your post. You can ignore the first one I sent in. And instead how about, art teacher, PE teacher, and mathematics teacher. I was so dumb when I first read your post and didn’t realize what you were asking
Okay, hear me out... Maths teacher Midoriya, PE teacher Reader and Art teacher Denki.
Midoriya and you have known each other since school and have been dating seriously since you were about 17, even managing to get jobs at the same school together. How cute!
And you guys are just the dream couple, the best alpha/omega couple around and everyone is rooting for you or wishing they were one of you.
Then... Enter Denki.
The art teacher at the school and every other student's favourite teacher.
He's all smiles, all the time. So friendly, so fun and such a great teacher and artist.
Midoriya gets close to him first, seeing as they both teach inside the school whereas you teach outside more often than not.
Midoriya just thinks Denki is like the sun and Denki loves how much Midoriya cares about his students and how fun he is to tease of course.
It's not until sports day that you all start interacting together.
Denki makes a sign, as though he's cheering one particular house team on, but instead it just says 'my money's on the hot PE teacher!'
It's only a joke (kind of lol) but it gets you all talking and Midoriya is excited to have his friend and his alpha get along more, inviting Denki over to dinner, and then to watch movies and then to run errands...
And it becomes something domestic quite organically.
It only made sense to bring Denki into your relationship.
And you A/O relationship became A/O/O :D
A snippet from the relationship:
Midoriya started to get nervous as the little laughs in the classroom didn't die down. His students had been giggling since they came in, but Midoriya hadn't been worried, assuming something had happened while they'd been queuing up outside.
But they hadn't stopped. And they seemed to laugh more when they looked at him.
Self-consciously, he adjusted his tie.
"Sir?" one of his students said tentatively, smiling and raising their hand.
"Yes?"
"You uh, have a bit of paint," they supressed a laugh and pointed at their own cheek to mimic his own. "There, on your cheek."
Midoriya flushed red, immediately opening his phone and looking at his reflection to assess the damage. They were right. He had a large stripe of red paint on his cheek.
Suddenly, he remembered helping out with you and Denki to set up the art studio for his lesson at lunch. Denki had cupped his face at one point and started giggling, you following not soon afterwards. He's assumed you were laughing because he reprimanded Denki for PDA at school, but apparently not.
Midoriya flushed a deeper red, much to the delight of his students. He couldn't believe his mates had let him walk around with paint on his face!
"Ah, I must have touched some paint while I was helping Mr. Kaminari earlier," Midoriya stuttered out rubbing fruitlessly at the paint. "I'll get it off after class."
"Was our PE teacher there too?" a braver member of the class snickered, setting the rest of them off again.
Midoriya could feel that his face was turning the same colour as the paint and wished that he hadn't inherited that trait from his mother.
He would give anything for a fire alarm right now...

i am very curious (and i'm asking this not with any malicious intent) but what ages do you see the genshin characters! i personally see them (most of them) as adults, even collei. even if they were teenagers, time passes in-game (i.e. lantern rite happens every year and we already had 2 lantern rites in-game) so they'll eventually grow to be adults.
tldr: I have schrodinger's age headcanons
long answer: if they're in a ship with a ""clearly"" adult character, I'll assume they're young adults; idk I feel like there's some blurring of age and what growth stage you're in when people are around 17 to 20 (from my experience) so I think it's vague-ish enough that you could probably do what you want.
If they're not in a ship I see some of them as adults and some as still teens/underage. as a general rule of thumb a character's age is solely dependent on what I want at the moment, although I do think the way some characters are written (ie character arcs, character stories and general personality) pushes me to view them as underage (will explain more but the character I'm thinking about most w this is Xingqiu). Some of them read to me as clear adults, and then there are some in-betweens where I just have "vaguely young looking" in my hcs LOL
you bring up a good point that time is passing in game although we don't see it reflected in the character models—everyone points out that Xiao opens up a bit more every lantern rite, but fandom (and genshin devs too ig 💀) definitely forgets that all the other characters are also growing/changing. w/ 4.1 around the corner my personal wish is for hu tao, xingqiu, and chongyun's relationships to each other get developed more so that their relationships (as described through their voicelines abt each other) don't feel so flat,,,,,, it would also help with the sense of "time is passing in game for ALL characters", since we almost never get this kind of evolving relationship portrayed between 4*s/non endgame important charas.
I have too much time on my hands so I'll also just run through all the teen/short models there are for each region and list whether my personal headcanons are adult or minor (at least their ages when we "meet" them in canon):
liyue (mortal/mortal adjacent characters): yanfei, chongyun, xingqiu, hu tao, xiangling, xinyan, yun jin, keqing
yanfei and keqing are solidly adults to me, yanfei's a lawyer and keqing's also in a govt job so both of them feel around like 25-27 to me. Definitely somewhere around their mid-20s, although I can also see them as younger, especially Keqing, because of her overall attitude/perspective on life and the gods. iirc her character stories show how her worldview's grown/broadened to be not as naive/black and white, so I feel like she's still in the process of maturing. If you told me Yanfei was like 23 (appearance wise) I guess I'd believe you too, since she's a very peppy person who seems to be running all over the place all the time, doing errands for madame ping, checking on her clients, taking new cases etc. I feel like it gives her youthful energy, so I can see it if people hc her on the younger side of her 20s (in human years I forgot how her half-adeptal blood works).
I see the other 6 as a friend group (liyue 6ang let's go) so they're either all teens or all adults depending on the portrayal. You can obviously view them as adults all the time, but I don't get those vibes. Xinyan and Yun Jin might be like 18-19, but if that's the case, I can't see the other 4 being any younger than 17, just because I think they're all almost the same age or 1-2 years apart maximum. For some reason so many people view Hu Tao and Yun Jin as adults but at the same time think the others are minors? Idk about that.. genshin has shown that Xiangling, Xinyan, and Yun Jin are pretty close friends, and then always put Xingqiu and Chongyun together for the ship bait, so maybe that's the root of fanon's age hcs. However, I think if some of them are young adults, then all of them are. There's a max 2 year age gap between all 6 of them idk idk I really can't see it otherwise.
To me, Xingqiu's arc reads like a 16 year old finding his footing in the world. Hiding martial arts novels under his bed, tired of playing dutiful 2nd son and sneaking out to live out his idealized wuxia dreams, his multiple voicelines where he's implied to be super worried about us giving away his involvings in the Guhua sect, they all read like he's still trying to figure out his role in his family (what he wants it to be, and what his parents want it to be). He's also very naive about the world, but learning. He just feels a lot like how (chinese) teenagers grow up and like. growing into or out of the paths given to us by our parents. ... or i could just be projecting! Anyways, in my no ships world, he's a 16-17 yr old. Chongyun's clan and family play a not-insignificant role in his backstory, so I think he's the same age as Xingqiu, just older by a month for the flex. Lowkey I don't have as much reason for him as the others, but I think they're in the same age range by association; probably almost 18 at most. Hu Tao's character stories explicitly state she's 13 when her grandfather passed away, and I think she becomes Director not long after this, so I would say she's also around 16-17 when the game starts. @.acatoner who draws quite possibly my favorite interpretations of the gang(TM) once mentioned they see her with spoiled younger sister energy and honestly yeah. she's an only child but has the strongest solidarity with Xingqiu (they're the bratty younger siblings of the friendgroup). Out of all of them, Xiangling is the one with the most plausible job if she was like, young: being a chef apprentice with her dad to continue the family business is pretty reasonable. Middle child energy, probably 17. We did meet her when she was in Mondstadt foraging ingredients, so I'd say she's not very young, but still young enough for her dad to chew her out during moonchase for being like messy or clumsy or smth? Xinyan and Yun Jin.... I think Yun Jin is at least almost 18—running a well acclaimed opera troupe is a pretty big undertaking imo, even if her parents are there to like guide her and whatnot. Same with Xinyan, 17-18 range, although she def started playing rock publicly when she was way younger.
inazuma: shinobu, heizou, kazuha, kirara, gorou, kokomi, ayaka, yoimiya
Disclaimer I have not read the Lore and don't know whether actual ages are given for Ayaka and Ayato (specifically pointing them out because iirc their and Thoma's character stories are the most specific ones wrt the timeline).
I see basically all of them as adults, ayaka might be an exception but she's like 17 minimum in my head. That's pretty interesting considering I labeled almost all the liyue short models as teens. From what I can remember of their character stories, the Inazuman characters seem to be portrayed as having their formative struggles set In the Past (probably a couple years before we meet them) so perhaps that's why I see them as solidly young adults. Additionally, Inazuma's arc and its war pushes me to see all of them as adults, even if they're still obscenely young to be generals and strategicians. The exceptions I can see to this are only Yoimiya (smaller role in archon quest and not related to the government), and Shinobu + Heizou, who were released later. Yoimiya's maturity really stands out to me—from the way her neighbors and old people converse with her, and her overall character arc + second story quest, I cannot see her as below like 19 at least. Shinobu manages an entire unofficial gang and has countless certifications under her belt plus ex-shrine maiden stint—she probably isn't less than 23. It would be cute if she were the same age as Yanfei but just started law school later, so Yanfei's still her senior. I think there's not much to say on Heizou either, he's friends with Kazuha and has a real job, so I can't read him below 20-21. I don't know anything about Kirara (don't have her, haven't read her stories) but I also just get the vibes of like 20-something errand girl SDFDSSKDFJS in a modern au she'd deliver to teyvat/inazuma's college campus for sure
mondstadt (humans): barbara, razor, bennett, fischl, mika, amber, noelle, sucrose
this is a mix again, for Barbara Razor Bennett and Fischl they give me kid vibes, like little adventure gang things. Reddit apparently cites Mona called Fischl an adult in the 2.8 Midsummer Fantasia GAA event, so I mean. I guess she's 18 there—might've been 16 when we met in game the first time (1.2?? scaramouche fake stars event or something?) Idk really. Their group collectively gives me 16 year old vibes, at least when we start the game. I can see it if all of them have aged to 18 now—it just makes sense in my head lol. Mika feels like an 18 year old; mostly because of his relationship with Huffman. Amber seems vaguely adult-ish, I'd say 19 or so, maybe 20 during shadows amidst snowstorms in 2.3. there's some logic behind this that ties into her search for her grandfather but it's like vague and hazy in my head. I haven't given much thought to Noelle and Sucrose— Sucrose also gives "vaguely adult" vibes, idk if her character story about wanting to make a wonderland to meet her past friends in has any relevance to timeline estimation. I'd say Noelle also falls into the vague adult age range, but to me she's a puzzle, because her personality seems incongruent to how I thought she might act if she's like 23 or so.
anyways, anon if you read all this i will declare my love for you. thanks for giving me an excuse to genuinely think on this and then dump my thoughts out for the internet. you can clearly see none of my braincells really go towards Mondstadt headcanons but I hope you're happy w my response ehe

i was watching old enough recently (where toddlers in japan run errands lol) and the culture surrounding death and ancestors is so beautiful there they always are sent on errands to get flowers for their dead loved ones and talking about them and incorporating honoring their memories into their daily lives like, constantly, and i think that since grief is so constant and unrelenting it might help to have some sort of shelf or corner for your sister where you can pick flowers or bring rocks or other things she might like? idk if unsolicited advice is something you’re looking for, especially abt something so personal and sensitive, so please feel free to delete or ignore this but it just seems like a way to maybe find just a little moment throughout the day to intentionally sit with your grief and put your love for your sister somewhere physical … ur love for her is so huge and beautiful and i would be honored if anyone were to love me so deeply even after i’m gone .. thinking of u and sending u peace girl
how beautiful and adorable :(( i could cry! yes i was just talking tonight about how estranged the general culture is from the idea of death and grief in england and ofc i get it and i get why it's traumatic but i wish it was more common to practice that mourning from a young age. it's really knocked me off my feet trying to navigate losing my sister in this way, i don't think i'll ever be normal again, i don't know what to do LOL. i like the idea of a little memorial, my dad has one for her in his flat. she got cremated so maybe i could just set some keepsakes down beside her ashes and stuff. it's really hard. right after she died i had a shoebox where i would leave her stuff and write her letters, maybe i could start that again. a tangible expression of grief, like you said, something physical. thank you angel, you made me tear up a bit by saying that at the end there. i miss her so so much. it still feels dumb to talk about her so formally, but yeah, she was my best friend. it's just crazy. hoping all that peace you're sending out finds you again, much love angel. x <3

Not sure if you write for females but can I get an lumine with like hurt/comfort where she spends too much time with her brother and eventually forgets about you and realizes when her friends tell her? Thank you if you do this! ❤️🥰
Hi!! It’s been forever but since its summer and I’m on a train I figured I’d go through my ask box on this blog. I hope this still finds you!!!
And yes I do write female characters, I’m just usually fixated on men for both the gender and the attraction lol. Usually I don’t do inserts so it’s a bit short but anything for you anon!
It’s not that you didn’t understand why Lumine was so busy. After all, even before she had been reunited with Aether she’d been busy. You had learned to expect long stretches where all you had were letters describing her latest quest, freeing a nation, saving hundreds of lives, or discovering some long lost secret.
Many times, several of those at once.
You had your own life as well, and with your own responsibilities along with a respect for her life it had never really bothered you too much before. It was just how Lumine was.
It’s just now she was staying here right by your home with her brother and you were supposed to have more time together.
You missed the early mornings checking ar the Adventures Guild together and helping her with whatever errand or quest assigned. You missed the long afternoons spent eating lazy lunches in the shade and quiet hours fishing together.
An ugly resentment had grown inside you instead, since she’d been far too busy doing all of that with Aether instead. You knew it wasn’t entirely fair. Aether had been perfectly nice the few times you’d spoken to him. But you just wished Lumine could visit for a bit or at least invite you along with them sometime. You felt left behind. Forgotten about.
You missed her, and it was terribly lonely. Your eyes were watering and you let them. You were at a lunch spot under a tree the two of you often stopped at but it wasn’t the same alone. Your own efforts to cheer yourself up backfired and you felt even worse. You just wanted your friend back.
Suddenly you heard the fair sound of two familiar voices laughing in the distance. You wiped your face quickly, horrified.
What timing.
It was Lumine and Aether, of course. As they rounded the corner towards your spot in the shade, you got to see Lumines carefree expression morph into surprise.
“Oh! I didn’t think I’d run into you here today,” Lumine said breaking into a bright smile. It faltered slightly when she focused on your face, easily reading your expression and red and puffy eyes.
She turned to Aether. “Give me a minute with them,” she said quietly to him, and he nodded, staying a respectful distance behind as she approached you.
“Hey, are you okay?” Lumine kneeled beside you, with a comforting hand resting on your shoulder.
“I’m okay,” you try and reassure her, but she could always read you too well.
“Come on, don’t give me that. What’s wrong?” Her tone was stern, but not unkind.
Your throat felt dangerously tight. You swallowed and let out a shaky breath. “It’s stupid-”
“It’s not,” she interrupted with an air of finality.
“I just miss you,” you admitted.
She tilted her head, studying you. “I’m right here, she points out.
You shrugged. “Yeah it’s just… we’ve hardly seen each other since you’ve been back you know. With Aether.” And once you’ve started it felt impossible to stop. “You said you’d cook those recipes for us when you got back but you’ve been busy…” you wipe the tears spilling over your cheeks, sniffling. “It’s like you’ve forgotten about me,” you finished, voice small.”
Lumine immediately pulled you into a hug, holding you for several long moments. She only lets go once you’ve stopped crying. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I guess I’ve gotten pretty distracted with my brother back- it’s no excuse though.”
“It’s fine,” you murmured.
“Honestly,” she sighs, “Not really.” She sits down beside you, leaning against the rough bark of the tree. She takes her time, collecting her thoughts. “I supposed I just… before, you know, the two of us, my brother and I, we were inseparable. I didn’t need anyone except him. After all that’s happened… part of me just wants to pretend we can just go back to being like that.”
You leaned against her at the admission, trying to provide your own comfort now. “Lumine-”
She shook her head. “No, like I said, it’s no excuse. It isn’t like that anymore. I know that. Besides, I’ve missed you too.” She smiled softly at you and you return the gesture.
“How about this,” she said, “do you want to join me and Aether picking mint? Then afterwards we can have dinner. Just the two of us.”
Your smile brightened at that. “Only if you’re cooking,” you agreed, and Lumine laughed loudly.
“Anything for you.” She got up, and offered you a hand.
You took it.

I know this is way beyond Genshin’s ability and also what I assume is their budget for a single event, but if I were doing Windblume 2, I would do it something like this:
Since the basis of the story is the friendship between witches, it would make sense to create a parallel in the modern day with the playable cast. So 4 people who should fit the descriptors, plus one whom they are wishing well when she departs for her homeland.
So I would have Collei as the J stand in, being the one who departs at the end of Windblume, but everyone assures her that they’ll still be friends.
Sucrose would obviously be one of the 4 friends, and her matching to Rhinedottir is actually pretty good, since they are both alchemists. You could also add some more focus on the Albedo connection, since I think his mentorship of Sucrose is also very cute.
That leaves “doesn’t lie,” “guide who doesn’t get lost” and “unending legend.” Mona is the obvious one for “guide” since her teacher was the previous one, and you could run Klee as the A stand in, since she’s Alice’s daughter and also doesn’t lie lol. Which would leave the M stand in. It would be nice if we had a writer in the female Mond cast, but I think the closest might be Fischl. Something like Scarlett approaching Mona because they’re both witches’ students, and Mona reluctantly adding Klee and Fischl to the group (since she’s friends with Fischl)?
Then the 4 of them would spend the event becoming friends with Collei, guided by Scarlett, who takes the opportunity to recreate that tea party for her own reasons.
It would be nice if Collei had some kind of dilemma to give the story some focus... the simplest I can think of is her being offered the choice of staying in Mondstadt. Maybe with the explanation that previously she was in Sumeru in hopes of finding an actual cure for Eleazar, but now she’s better and since she likes Amber so much and she’s made more friends, what if she stayed there? But ultimately Collei chooses to “return to her hometown” and live with her family (Cyno and Tighnari).
Doesn’t have to be like this, but just as a general idea.
As for how it starts... something like, Amber having to tell Collei she can’t hang out with her because she has a special assignment from Jean: a foreigner has been approaching girls, asking them “do you want to become a witch?” Amber is tasked with finding this person and finding out their intentions. It might seem innocuous, but we can find out from Jean that this strange foreigner (Scarlett) also asked after “a bard with the form of a youth, wearing a cecilia flower” aka Venti. A Snezhnayan looking for their archon is suspicious at best.
So Collei is left at loose ends and makes some new friends instead. And when Scarlett approaches them, it becomes a chance to show Amber how capable Collei is now.
Of course, Scarlett just wants to have girls help her recreate the tea party. Although the event we got made the whole thing pointless, I do think there’s a certain charm in a group of friends following a strange ritual to create a special memory, even if there is no deeper meaning to it. Especially if we can get stuff like Fischl being into it, while Mona tries to be skeptical and levelheaded, and Sucrose is switching between the two. She’s normally a scientist, but she wants to create a fairy wonderland, so she’s got a whimsical side too...
We’d lose out on Timaeus’s love story, but I think it could be included as a separate sub-quest. I actually also liked the idea of the anecdotes in Lantern Rite ‘21. The problem is that we got errands for NPCs we had no chance to know yet and whom we wouldn’t care about. It’s different if it’s someone we’ve seen a lot.
Well, this is just imagining things, because I wish Mond could have had a better event...

this is, like, barely even a fragment but i remember @autisticfang expressing interest in the idea so here’s like 100 words of Jeb Batchelder being bored on summer vacation, 1976
000000
The problem with summer, Jeb decided, was that it lasted about a month too long. The first few weeks after school let out were great, but by the beginning of July the shine was starting to wear off, and by the end of the month he was just about dying for something -- anything -- to happen.
And so, rather than get out of bed, on this particular day -- midway through the Bicentennial Summer of 1976 -- Jeb laid there, clock radio still playing, and considered his options.
There wasn’t much chance of getting a ride into town -- Mom would be out running errands, and Dad wouldn’t be back from his business trip until next week. Though it wasn’t like he had the money to do anything except bum around the library, he considered. So going to town was out.
Jeb flopped over on his back. Wish Scott was back from Iowa. You could usually count on Scott to have an idea for something to do, but he was on his grandparents’ farm for the summer.
[and then I lost steam, but the general thought was like... Jeb’s upbringing is kind of an unanswered question for me -- i “know” almost nothing about his early life before, like, college. so i was thinking i’d do some exploration of his teenage years and flesh that out a bit.
[relevant thoughts: Jeb is almost 13 here, going into 9th grade -- one general vibe i get from him is that he has few friendly relationships and they’re not with people his own age. Scott is a couple of years older than him, and they first met through their parents, because their fathers work together, but rather than an awkward playdate they actually discovered that they share interests, and quickly became friends -- the important part is that Scott finishes school before Jeb does, then moves away and they gradually fall out of touch. one of the background themes i was wanting to work on was this sense that Jeb feels very isolated in the world, like everyone he loves eventually leaves him, and Scott is intended to be an early part of that. it’s 1976 because i just thought that would be fun, and i like writing period pieces lmao. also this would yet again be a fic where not much happens, it’s the equivalent of like... the first chapter of a book about a character, and after this we flash forward in time. so a lot of details are intended to set up or echo bits of canon -- anyway, Jeb ends up deciding to just go hang out in the woods / outside for a while, and experiences some emotions about the environment / birds. might come back to this idea sometime, would definitely like to, but who knows lol]
