reverse robins fic

hey everyone, my university work load has just started really weighing on me and i have to focus on school more then fanfiction obviously.

i have decided that i will write two fanfics on the reverse robins au, one will be longer and will have it so that the og universe is actually introduced to the reverse robins au. the other fic which is shorter (i think so anyways, i’m not entirely sure yet) will be purely a big reverse robins oneshot collection.

it’s also quite self indulgent (the shorter one) so it won’t be perfect but it will still be good quality as i wouldn’t post something that i haven’t put effort into and aren’t happy with!

chapter 1 of the longer fic is currently in the making but may take a little bit to come out 🥲

i hope you all understand, but i promise they r both being made and posted as soon as possible. i just can’t prioritise this over my education for obvious reasons.

i will also upload the links to both once each is done so u can access them easier.

I'm writing a hazbin oneshot and I'm having issues with dialogue. Any wisdom on how to handle the balance between Alastor being an arsehole and wanting to write him having a couple of moments of geniune sincerity.

Well, those two things don't have to be mutually exclusive!

If you're trying to get your character to do something, you have two variables to work with: "what would it take to get this character to do this" and "how would the character go about it."

As far as "how would Alastor go about sincerity" is concerned: If he's interacting with someone that he's inclined to be sincere with, for whatever reason, there's a solid chance he's going to be a dick about his sincerity, and also sincere about his dickishness.

The canon scene where he makes a deal with Charlie was in many ways him not even trying a little to hide how manipulative he's being, but I think a key moment of it is that he does give her sincere advice about how to present herself and emotionally handle the situation ("A smile is a valuable tool, my dear!" - ironically cautioning against sincerity). And, again: he completely owns the fact that he thinks the situation and Charlie's misery are absolutely hysterical, and that he has something over her. He outright crows "I know something you don't know!"

Despite his scheming, Alastor is often pretty open about the kind of person that he is, which is not a very nice one, when it is in line with his preferred self-image. Sincerity is not synonymous with softness, and I don't think softness is the kind of vulnerability that would come naturally to him in most circumstances. Let him be an asshole even as he's being sincere - either deliberately or accidentally. Or let him be defensive, or unsure, or nervous. There are a lot of ways to present sincerity that make a lot of sense for him depending on the situation.

As for "what would it take for Alastor to be sincere," especially if you do want it to be a soft sort of sincerity... that is up to you and the machinations of your story! I spent several dozen thousand words in 666 exploring that one, haha.

Btw, yes, I am working on the Blitzbee fanfic I said I would make, just working in between and I'm planning to make the first 5 chapters first before releasing. I still wanna try and put all my focus/energy into Involuntary, but I am trying to stay committed enough.

Pre relationship rain/reiko stuff! (Messy sketchy art sorry :3)

Yapping about my headcannons for the ship under this:

[lots of spelling errors probably, be warned :3] I think they were like, childhood friends. Reiko becoming Shao Kahn’s kid basically placed him into the Royal family circle. And outside of the sister Rain was the only other guy around. I imagine the two bonded quickly and basically were best friends. Bonding over the Mutual want to test their limits, to grow stronger, reach higher.

friendship turned into romance into their late teens. A secret romance, something both of them didn’t really want people to know, specifically shao kahn. Nothing crazy just, often escaping responsibility in a rainy night. Especially after Rain became high mage, the two hung out a lot at night.

Reiko becoming second in command, and his devotion to Shao Kahn drove a wedge in-between them. So focused on “I owe him my life” kinda debt the two just, drift. Cut off entirely when rain leaves Shao Kahn and goes on the run from basically everyone after drowning that city (can’t remember the name on the top of my head rn).

I specifically think about that one dialogue thing where reiko says “shao kahn still needs you.” To Rain

and all I can think about it. “But I needed you.”

Anyways, Rain finds Reikos absolute devotion to Shao Kahn almost horrifying. he wants him to be broken free of that sort of mindset
