we have no sign of how christ treated his betrayer on a daily basis, you know. we do know he was trusted with money, and that they had no idea it would be him. when it was said that one of their number would betray their lord, not one of them nodded sagely and said “i knew it, it’s judas.” not one of them.
how easy it would have been for him to put distance there, to just step away, to lessen the pain and the sting every time judas looked at him. but no. no, not christ. it was always, always, always love.
there is constant agony over the knowledge that jesus CHOSE him. a crowd, a following, all of israel to chose to be one of his closest friends, and jesus looked at the multitude and met the eyes of the one with a greedy heart and jealous mind and he said “that one.” he looked at his betrayer, the one who would commit the Sin of Sins, and he smiled and he said “father, give him to me.”
“let him be mine.”
“i choose death. i choose pain. i choose to let this one know my heart before he breaks it.”
he could have been delivered up another way. someone else could have told the priests — someone could have seen the group and known and ran to earn payment. someone who was unaffiliated, whom they wouldn’t have known and been so hurt by.
but no. no, jesus looked at him and loved him.
god made the job harder in no physical manner, only with love. and so no one has ever, i think, broken the lord’s heart so thoroughly as judas. because he let the serpent into the nest and made it comfortable, walked toward the hungry lion with welcoming arms.
in the end, it was also the story of us, betraying him who we had no reason to betray, and suffering the burden for it when we refused his grace. our redemption in the arms of him whom we worst offended. “while we were yet sinners”
judas is the story of grace overflowing, cascading, washing over us all. jesus pulled him into dances, had inside jokes, sat next to him at meals, ruffled his hair in the mornings, winked at him during sermons. judas was no outcast — he was in jesus’ close circle, his family. jesus stayed up late sometimes with him and talked about stars while the other disciples slept around the fire. they had dialogue about old testament verses and their meaning, swapped stories of their childhoods, kissed each others’ mothers on the cheek. judas heard his sermons and likely had comments, questions, ideas, adorations. (because jesus chose to lead him but judas chose to follow) they were blood brothers, until judas shed jesus’ blood, sold his brother for silver, did not listen when all the earth cried out. (all creation, all eternity building to this climax) (cain and abel) (joseph and judah) (yeshua and judas) (we’ve heard this before, we know how it ends don’t we, god bring the plot twist or avert our eyes)
most powerful of all, when christ washed his feet. kneeling, wrapped in a towel, and silently, gently, lovingly he lifting the feet of his betrayer to intimately clean them.
“i knew it, it was judas” never came from any of their mouths, not even from the mouth of he who knew. instead he smiled, and the kiss was only expected. “i knew it, it was judas” “father let him be mine”
“i choose judas”

ChoiCale Northern Duke AU
Northern duke Cale Henituse with his long hair frosted over and tangling in the winter wind, fur cape thick and warm and pitch black, weighing down his shoulders. Northern duke Cale Henituse who stays shut in his castle unless drowning his lonely sorrows (apparently) and does not care for the people he protects (apparently), but stumbles back through the gates at unholy hours of the night or morning reeking of alcohol, clothes stained through with red in the dim candle light.
Choi Han stumbles onto the lands of the remote duchy after fighting through a thicket of winter demons and a pack of timber wolves that took him as easy prey, and the village welcomes him warmly. They celebrate his presence, because they think he is the one who has guarded their village. It's not strictly wrong, but Choi Han has not been in the Henituse duchy for long enough for his fights to warp into local legend.
He has not flung himself off cliffs to lure demons to their deaths. He would not call the way he wields his sword fae-like. Only thrice has he saved fellow travelers from the snow-borne perils. But... they call him a hero and give him food and rest at their eternal bonfire, and that is good enough for Choi Han not to question it too much.
The rumours spread far enough that the duke himself descends from his mansion at the peak of the wintering mountains. When the village leader hollers the name 'Cale Henituse' through the snowy roads, the merriment goes silent. Choi Han is slower to fear and trepidation than the youngsters he is talking to, so he turns and meets the duke's rusted gaze head on.
"So you're the hero," comes Duke Henituse's first greeting, and his voice makes him seem younger than the ageless ice of his expression. Not that it is ageless ice anymore - Duke Henituse's bloody lips twist and splinter his face with a scathing smirk. "I suppose you're looking for a reward, then? Well, what have you?"
The children shrink away from the duke's imposing stare, and Choi Han feels his own agitation rear its head in response. "The fire, your Grace. I come on behalf of another village who has suffered decades of chill now. Can you share some of it with us?"
Duke Henituse's gaze narrows as his sneer widens. "Which village?"
"Does it matter? The cold is impartial, your Grace, it will freeze any that has no hearth like this one." Choi Han tips his head at the merrily blazing flame that burns bright enough to heat the entire village and light the roads in the eternal night. "The fire can be transported without weakening the hearth. I can do it myself!"
"You can try," Duke Henituse snorts. "The Eternal Winter does not take kindly to flame in its midst."
"Harris is-"
The logs in the bonfire crackle and spit, collapsing in a blast of flame. Around them, the villagers flinch away with hands raised against the light. Cale Henituse draws his spine straight and bares his teeth on a fogged breath, embers refracting in his fathomless gaze as his hair and cloak billow in the surge of heated air - a dark burgundy stain mars the right breast of his thick blouse. "Harris Village? Let them be consumed by the full force of the Winter! Let them shatter! Let them die!"
Choi Han raises his drawn sword at a defenseless man, and knows that no villager will stop him. "I will take some fire back to them."
"Ha!" the duke laughs, head thrown back derisively, "Then take some wood with you too! Harris will have precious little dry kindling. Give them our fire."
What a challenge that is. "I will," Choi Han snarls. The fire burns, and even at this distance he is starting to sweat. He takes a lamp from one of the children who offer, and a handful of large candles from another. When he glances over his shoulder, the Winter Lord is gone. Back to his lofty manor in the snow with him, then.
Choi Han thanks the children and bids the rest of the villagers adieu. The older of them shake their heads and chuckle like it is some inside joke. "No need to say goodbye, lad. Best of luck to you."
The fire snuffs out the moment he steps past the tree line.
He walks the twenty minutes back to the village in near-darkness. It is not hard; the warm glow is the brightest beacon they could have. The elders smile when he sheepishly greets them again, amused yet disappointed for his flame. Choi Han leaves and returns four more times before he slumps on the village's pub bench with his head in his hands. The bartender claps him on the shoulder in commiseration and shouts him a jug of mead. "The flame cannot leave the village's bounds. Not without his Grace's permission."
Choi Han sips on the spiced liquor and frowns. "Then that's what I'll do."
The trek up to the manor is treacherous; there are crevasses and cliffs obscured by blinding white, and Choi Han cannot imagine the frosty duke shimmying up the narrow ledge of this particular cliff to get home. But Choi Han has faced far worse getting to the village of the eternal hearth in the first place. He makes it up mostly unharmed, though his fingertips are raw and bleeding.
The manor gates are wrought iron. The windows are dark. When Choi Han raises his hand to the metal, it parts for him as if the hinges were oiled only minutes ago. Soundless and weightless. A single room lights up. Choi Han looks over on instinct. The sharp, willowy silhouette of Cale Henituse stares back.

It's interesting to think about orv as this like, world governed by a child. Like, of course, hsy wrote the actual world of twsa into existence, but she did so as a gift to a young kim dokja i.e. oldest dream. Everything was designed to his liking, and the very fabric of the world relies on od actually liking the story lest he like, blow up himself and the world with him. And od gets this eldritch horror component to him from this, because he's like, really not doing anything, right? Like od is effectively just a child enjoying a story, just kind of existing, but in the logic of orv having your story watched is not...that good. This is of course *the* thesis of orv, that stories keep us alive and that you're not evil for wanting to stay alive, etc, etc. but it's also interesting to think about the system of probability within this world governed by a child reading a story. Because nobody really sits down to explain probability, at least not off the top of my head, but it can be pretty easily inferred that probability is. Well. How probable something is to happen, but specifically how likely it is for a certain event to happen, under the constraints of a story from a particular genre. So it's not about what's physically possible, it's about maintaining suspension of disbelief. And, despite what it says on the tin, od is not actually omniscient, he can overlook things, he can be distracted, his attention can be purposefully called to things. So really it's about what you can get away with in this cosmic-level game of make-believe. And of course this is a system made for a reader, for kim dokja, where knowledge of tropes will make surviving through the apocalypse way easier. So how come kdj, with such a big advantage, has so much trouble getting by? A big part of this I think is because od, being od, cannot actually imagine an older version of himself. Od can't think of a world where he gets to be 28 years old, much less be even remotely happy or stable at that age. And this is also why kdj's face has to be blurred, because to od, kdj is both a self insert (like he is to us, the readers of orv) and an impossibility. Because kim dokja does not allow himself happiness, not even when he's little

Shen Yuan is the third son of a prosperous merchant family — jianghu and cultivators? That's far below his family's standards; they know just enough to stay young and stunning, not enough to be immortal
His family trade silks to nobles and royal houses, and sometimes, secrets and rumors. Rumors are paid for in gold and blood, and Shen Yuan grows up learning that sometimes they claim the lives of newbors, like the one his mother lost years before his own birth
Shen Yuan is in mediocre health – something about having been attempted to poison when he was a baby. His cultivation keeps the poison at bay! Although until he learned how to cultivate, well... He uses a cane for a reason
All his life after he has been the weak and sickly child— Now as an adult, he actually still is. Although he has already established his own business dealing in books, paper and gossip, with his small, well-appointed house and loyal servants, Shen Yuan still doesn't leave the house much. He's quite prone to getting tangled up with poisonous flowers or aphrodisiac-stinging insects! And he doesn't want any of that, thanks! He doesn't want to get a wife! Not because he doesn't want to get married—what young man wouldn't want a good marriage? It's just that, well... Shen Yuan knows himself
He actually knows that he will not be a good husband: he can provide financially and that will be enough for many women, but to make them happy? Being able to raise a family? No, no. Shen Yuan is in poor health and has a fragile heart. He's not up to that kind of trot
Fate doesn't seem to tell him the same thing when a child falls on his doorstep. Shen Yuan notes: a spoiled brat dressed in elegant robes. Definitely a young master from a wealthy family running away from home. But he's no more than ten years old!
Anyway, Shen Yuan serves him some soup, brushes his hair, talk to the little troublemaker, gives him some money to pay for transportation, and tells him to go home. There is nothing so serious that it cannot be solved by talking! (even if Shen Yuan doesn't follow his own advice, he knows it's good advice!)
It doesn't take too many days from the child's going home until he returns to his doorstep. This time, however, accompanied by someone who is clearly his father, because they are carbon copies of each other. Shen Yuan stands, tremblingly supported by his cane, not understanding who this handsome man is and why he is looking at him as if he wants to eat him alive
Well!! Shen Yuan has soup to offer and many questions to answer! And the handsome man introduces himself as Luo Binghe, Emperor of the Three Realms... And Shen Yuan has no idea who he is. Wait, wait. Is he kidding? As far as Shen Yuan remembers, that is not the Emperor's name and he is not that... Young and handsome either
It's fine, Shen Yuan doesn't care. The man isn't kind, but he's grateful, something of a favor that must be paid—Shen Yuan has no idea why! He sent the boy home, he did what anyone would have done! He didn't even accompany him back, although he kept an eye on which carriage he got into and made sure it was a reliable coachman
Anyway, anyway. Shen Yuan extends an invitation to lunch which is extended to Luo Binghe preparing a dinner and then the servants of his house preparing the guest rooms and... Well, Shen Yuan could have made a friend in a crazy rich cultivator with a son who doesn't know how to control who calls himself the Emperor. Should he do some research into the cultivation world he lives in and from which his family so jealously kept him away?

okay listen I think it would be the funniest of Han Yoojin’s reaction to Yoohyun leaving would’ve been getting his high school degree and speed running law school so he can specifically get himself into a position where Yoohyun can’t avoid him. he has the weirdest relationship with haeyeon as a guild, somewhere between “this guy is obviously favoring them” and “they’ve had to resubmitted their taxes like 5 times because he keeps denying them because of typos”
and he can’t be blackmailed out of the position because Han Yoojin being who he is, the other S-Classes would find him fucking hilarious. His superior get advised to fire him, 10 minutes later gets a call from Sung Hyunjae like “why isn’t my favorite government official breathing down my neck about tax evasion :/“

Got reminded again of my old coworker who was a massive misogynist but also trans inclusive. Told me he believed trans women are indeed women because "only women would be stupid enough to want to be women"
I wonder what he's doing now

I just think Shang Qinghua should get so angry one time that he unconsciously overrides the System and unlocks Admin privileges and just deletes entire clans out of existance in the blink of an eye while going "writing you in was a mistake".
And I also think everyone who saw that refuses to ever talk about it, but they're all scared shitless of the tiny human by Mobei-jun's side now because they realize he's not just really smart and an amazing strategist, he's also a god and can kill them all in 0.5 seconds. And now they all think that Shang Qinghua is actually the one running the show and Mobei-jun is just, like, the face of the Northern kingdom only.
Shang Qinghua is utterly horrified when he snaps out of it and realizes what he's done (somehow??? He doesn't know wtf just happened) and how now everyone is terrified of him except for Mobei-jun who is just looking at him with heart in his eyes lmao

people still don’t understand batman’s rogue gallery and what they represent to him. hollywood i will kill you. listen: each batman villain challenges a different aspect of his character and/or philosophy, and it is why grim dark batman was never meant to work
joker: chaos and order.
the foil to batman’s suppressed madness. bruce is discipline; none is above the code and justice. “you’re just one bad day away from being like me” WRONG!! bruce wayne has not had a good day since he was 10 years old. every good thing that happens to him is followed by 100 bad things. he is the universe’s punching bag. and yet he persists, does he not? does he not still believe in goodness in spite of it all? suck my dick joker he does not think of you AT ALL you are nuisance to him he wants to spend the one day off he has every year with his family and friends and you had to ruin it with ur lame jokes and terrorist attacks
riddler: obsession and intellect.
the foil to batman’s ego. bruce wayne is one of the smartest people in the world, by way of writer favouritism. wdym you outsmarted brainiac, a being of pure intelligence, just because ur the author’s favourite pretty princess? alright king whatever u say. but he never lets it rule him. his intelligence is a tool to of protection; it’s a shield, not a sword. he’d never raise it against the innocent. edward uses his intelligence to prove superiority, that he is better. he is batman without humility, and that is why he will always lose, because intelligence is nothing without wisdom
the penguin: wealth and corruption.
the foil to batman’s class. they’re both billionaires, Gothamite socialites. oswald embraces his privilege and uses it to oppress the poor. bruce wayne understands his privilege and uses it to pull others up. “you wear a mask too” yeah and it’s prettier than urs u ugly bitch. oswald’s socialite mask is a polished classy persona that disguises his inner evil. bruce’s socialite mask is just a himbo and remains true to his desire to help people
mr freeze: love and grief.
foil to batman’s ability to move on from the past. victor fries cannot let go of his wife and makes it everybody else’s problem. this is also the philosophy of grimdark batman, which is why it cannot apply to batman’s true character. bruce wayne is traumatized from his parents’ deaths, but it also inspired him to become the person who he wished had saved him in that alley. how many times has he looked into the eyes of a scared child on patrol and saw himself? he became the saviour for his 10 year old self left in that alleyway. he was able to heal; yes, his parents deaths has shaped him into the man he is, that’s literally what life does. healing doesn’t mean the grief will shrink, but your world grows bigger around it. he has a family again, built by his own hands
scarecrow: fear and power.
the foil to batman’s darkness. batman is iconic for instilling crippling terror into others by a mere look, psychics hate him because his mind is a screaming hellscape, he dresses like a bat because when he was a kid he fell into a hole filled with bats and he associates it with fear. jonathan uses fear to control the helpless, bruce instills fear in evil to protect the righteous. “you’re just as ruled by fear” WRONG!!! batman is ruled by love. it’s not fear that powers him when he drags his mangled, half-dead body off the streets at every dawn to go home for a costume change and immediately go to a charity gala for disadvantaged youths named after his street-rat son. it’s not fear that inspired him to keep lollipops in his utility belt for the children he saves. it’s not fear that makes him do the same old shit of throwing you fuckers into that useless max security prison twice a week after getting his shit rocked, knowing full well he’d have to do it again in a few days, instead of just killing you.
two-face: duality and justice.
the foil to batman’s divided self. harvey started off as a batman, a lawyer wanting to do good. his trauma split him, but bruce integrated it into himself. bruce wayne does not reject his pain, he lets it shape him and he asks himself: “ok that sucked. how do i make sure nobody else will experience that?” harvey dent is completely split, indecisive in his morality, good and evil depends on the flip of a coin. but batman? people say that bruce wayne is the mask and batman is his true self. dawg do u think his kids call him batman? that’s some shit he’d say in his 20s when he was figuring himself out but he’s a middle aged father now and his children would drag him to filth if he says his black-leather bat fursona is his “true self”. they are all him. brucie wayne isn’t completely his mask either, because it’s the persona he uses to fuck with rich people and you know full well he’d delights in that to the bottom of his heart
his rogue gallery is a mirror to each aspect of himself. everything high-brow reddit bros and zack snyder says about batman’s edgy true self is literally disproven by the people batman spends his life trying to save. he’s not on the edge of villaindom; he stares his inner evil that takes on the faces of broken people in the eyes every night and says “this isn’t the way forward”
