People with psychotic disorders are neurodivergent too.
People with personality disorders are neurodivergent too.
People with substance abuse disorders are neurodivergent too.
People with tic disorders are neurodivergent too.
People with bipolar disorder are neurodivergent too.
People with dissociative disorders are neurodivergent too.
Neurodivergence isn’t just ADHD, autism, anxiety, and depression. (Plus those last two also get left out sometimes!) Neurodivergence is anything that affects your brain.
“Neurodivergent people hate loud noises” is actually just as valid as a statement as “neurodivergent people have delusions,” “neurodivergent people have tics,” or even “neurodivergent people have low empathy.”

people with personality disorders: it was difficult to survive on the ground, so i climbed in a tree and now im stuck and can’t get down
mental health workers (and everyone really): it seems that they climbed in trees to manipulate us. they are fully capable of getting down but doing so would make it harder to abuse us, so they stay there

Friendly (or unfriendly if you're against this) reminder that this blog is supportive of ALL disorders. This blog does not think ANY disorder inherently makes someone a bad person, and is against any disorder being demonized. This blog wholeheartedly believes that a bad person having a disorder, yes, even if things that are also symptoms of their disorder are part of what caused harm, does not make the disorder a "bad" or "evil" disorder or excuse ableism and demonization directed towards the disorder.
Yes this includes personality disorders
Including npd and aspd
Yes this includes all psychotic disorders & disorders that cause psychotic symptoms
Yes this includes paraphilic disorders. All of them.
Yes this includes disorders that cause, or are even characterized by, attention seeking
Yes this includes disorders that directly have lying as a common symptom
Yes this includes dissociative disorders
Yes this includes any disorder with "gross" symptoms
Yes this includes physical disorders too
Yes this includes disorders that can cause loss of control of any kind- control of speech, control of body movement, etc.
Yes tis includes disorders that make someone "look scary"
This goes for literally any fucking disorder. There are not exceptions.
#disability activism#ableism#demonization#disability awareness#personality disorders#npd#aspd#psychotic#psychotic disorders#paraphilic disorder#attention seeking#pathological lying#dissociative disorder#idk what other tags to put#also additional note I literally have a couple disorders on this list#and symptoms of several too#so if you're thinking of trying to argue on this post just fuck off#I guarantee you will not change my mind#and I don't want to hear it either

I know that this scene is about Shadow grappling with the fact he has alien DNA, but I feel like his thoughts in this scene are relatable to people with conditions like autism, BPD and NPD (not an exhaustive list) who struggle with feeling and being treated like an outcast or monster at times. For some, it’s because we struggle to operate in a world not designed for us. For others, it’s fighting against all the negative perceptions society has of us.
Shadow sees himself as a monster. But Maria assures him that just because he expresses himself differently, that doesn’t make him evil. I feel like especially for people who struggle with empathy, this really hits home. People often assume that people who struggle with empathy, whether cognitive or emotional, are heartless. And for those with personality disorders, they’re often treated as if they are abusive or manipulative just because of the disorder they have, even though people with said disorders are victims of trauma and abuse themselves.

I hope you all have a Maria in your lives. And if not, please remember that it’s your actions that define you, not your neurotype or disorder. If you struggle with socialising, or emotional regulation, or empathy, you’re not a monster. You’re strong for living in a world that so often seems to outcast and insult you. You’re strong for choosing to be as kind as you can be, even though so many people refuse to show that common courtesy in return. Even when you can’t be strong, you are not a monster.
Please be kind to yourselves. You deserve it.

Just a reminder that ableism against personality disorders, especially cluster b personality disorder, is alive and well.
Not having empathy doesn’t make someone evil. It doesn’t make them an abuser. In fact, people without empathy are better in certain vital positions. We’re better at being first responders, 911 operators, and other tasks that would overwhelm empaths. We work better in critical situations than empaths do.
Thinking that any disorder makes someone evil is ableist. And when you take into account the sexist bias in diagnosing women with BPD and the racist and classist bias in diagnosing POC and prison inmates with ASPD and NPD? It’s not only ableist, it’s all kinds of -ists. Plus, it’s really rich for someone who claims that empathy is what makes someone good to have so little empathy for people with disorders that are literally trauma-based.
So yeah if you see someone being a dick to people with PDs? Say something. Because they’re definitely not going to listen to us.

Neurodiversity
Neurodivergence refers to variations in neurological functioning that diverge from what is considered typical or "neurotypical." While there is no single, universally agreed-upon list, neurodivergent disorders generally include conditions that affect cognition, behavior, perception, or social functioning.
1. Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) (controversial as a separate diagnosis)
Asperger’s Syndrome (outdated term, now part of ASD)
2. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD (Predominantly Inattentive Type)
ADHD (Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type)
ADHD (Combined Type)
3. Learning Disabilities & Processing Disorders
Dyslexia (difficulty with reading and language processing)
Dyscalculia (difficulty with math and numerical processing)
Dysgraphia (difficulty with writing and fine motor skills)
Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)
Visual Processing Disorder (VPD)
Nonverbal Learning Disability (NVLD)
4. Intellectual Disabilities
Global Developmental Delay
Down Syndrome
Fragile X Syndrome
Williams Syndrome
Prader-Willi Syndrome
5. Communication Disorders
Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder
Speech Sound Disorder
Childhood Apraxia of Speech
Selective Mutism
6. Tic Disorders
Tourette Syndrome
Chronic Motor or Vocal Tic Disorder
Provisional Tic Disorder
7. Mental Health Conditions Often Considered Neurodivergent
Schizophrenia Spectrum & Other Psychotic Disorders
Schizophrenia
Schizoaffective Disorder
Schizotypal Personality Disorder
Delusional Disorder
Mood Disorders with Neurological Features
Bipolar Disorder
Major Depressive Disorder (long-term cases cause atrophy in brain regions like the hippocampus)
Dysthymia (Persistent Depressive Disorder)
Anxiety & Related Conditions
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) (sometimes considered)
Panic Disorder (sometimes considered)
Trauma-Related Disorders (sometimes included)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) (when it significantly alters cognition and sensory processing)
Complex PTSD (CPTSD)
Dissociative Disorders
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder
Personality Disorders (Not all PDs)
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD)
Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)
Schizotypal Personality Disorder (StPD)
8. Sensory Processing Differences
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) (not formally recognized in DSM-5 but widely acknowledged in neurodivergent communities)
9. Epilepsy & Neurological Conditions (sometimes considered)
Epilepsy
Migraines with Aura
Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)
10. Other Conditions Sometimes Considered Neurodivergent
Hyperlexia (advanced reading ability with comprehension difficulties)
Synesthesia (cross-wiring of sensory experiences)
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) (due to high comorbidity with neurodivergence)
Autoimmune Encephalitis (when it affects cognitive function)
Neurodivergence is a broad and evolving concept, with some conditions more widely accepted as neurodivergent than others. The core idea is that neurodivergent individuals experience the world in ways that differ from neurotypical standards, often due to innate neurological differences.
