Scaredy Cubs: Crying "Boo-Hoo" from a Boo Hag (Ch.2)

Chapter Synopsis:

The scaredy cubs and crew search for answers: what exactly tried to enter their motel room last night. When they find out, can they find and stop “her”?

Chapter Title: "She's" Around Here Somewhere...

The following morning, everything seemed fine enough: no one died nor did any guest feel the slightest bit drained. Of course, Claire and Cio both felt exhausted: they barely got a wink of sleep, knowing that a monster ALREADY targeted them-- and may try again, even with their friends keeping watch! Even Faxie, despite not needing sleep, "felt" drained himself from sharing his master's and his friend's anxiety. Gustel finishes his morning tea and shift, as Judy and Skyler awake from a more restful slumber. When they all become dressed and prepare themselves otherwise for the day, they head to the reception desk and speak with the owner about what's prowling the motel grounds.

"Hopefully, you're not thinking of leaving..." the man huffs, "It's not like any other place around here is much safer. At least I can say I've got it under control: that boo hag hasn't had the luck 'she's' probably been wishing for, not with all that blue coloring and those brooms," he sighs, “Although, it IS getting pretty annoying to repaint the outside of the place… Luckily for me, ‘she’ doesn’t have as easy a time throwing mud into the rooms, too; though I’m still sure those cleaning tools would keep ‘her’ from getting too close to anyone.”

Claire and Cio look at each other, Faxie staring up at the latter from his overalls’ front pocket. No one truly could do anything around here, without worrying about something happening...

"Well, I'd imagine you'd prefer getting rid of 'her' for good," Skyler offers, "I think that's something we can help with."

The owner raises an eyebrow at him.

"Really? Huh, I suppose that does sound promising, especially when even the authorities are tired of my calls. What's your end game?"

"Why should you care?" Gustel huffs, "Some simple and random motel owner isn't too beneficial to even have in our debt: there's nothing you can give us that we couldn't obtain for ourselves."

"Come on, you folks wouldn't find it the least bit odd that some random strangers are offering to take out a dangerous beast-- especially for little more than... I don't know, 'from the kindness of your hearts'?"

"Well, a white witch SHOULD do it just for that," Skyler agrees, "but the other reason would be a chance to practice self-defense against certain threats."

"'White witch'...?" the owner nods, "Yeah, we've got plenty who think they can do something about this whole territory... But if that's what brings you here, then who am I to tell you otherwise? It's your own choice if you want to die early. But let me ask again: you SURE it won't be more than just 'getting practice' and all that, if you succeed?"

"I dunno," Judy shrugs, "Refund our stay, give us a couple of free nights, just buy us some sodas...? Gus and Sky here aren't exactly lying about us not being 'opportunists' or anything."

"'Gus-TEL'... I am NOT merely ‘Gus,’" the crow-hybrid hisses, "How many times must I remind you?"

"Oh, get over it, you big baby..." Judy rolls her eyes, "You don't see ME having some mass crap-attack over nicknames..."

"Because you actually consented to being something other than 'Jundai'..."

"'Consented'...? All I did is shorten your name, I'm not trying to force my way into your pants."

"GUYS..." Skyler looks at them, before refocusing on the owner, "Anyway, I promise you: I don't know what kind of people would take advantage of others around here, but we're not like them."

The owner scans the bunch one final time, before pulling something out.

"Before I take you up on that offer, mind holding this stone first? Each one of you, take a turn."

So, I'm currently getting in more Blender practice, and you can see whom our model will be this time: Corneil, from "Corneil and Bernie" or "Watch My Chops!." I'll admit, his head is going to be a tad tricky; but with what I've learned doing those "Corn Kidz 64" practice models, I'll have some tricks of my own to make things easier. I mean, it already helped with making Corneil's pear-like body. For his HEAD, I'm thinking to start with the larger front half, then I'll work on the slimmer backside of it. I also hope to not just color the model with vertex paint this time, but actual textures.

Monthly Update 8/1/2025

I think I need to... well, RE-think this whole "check all socials at end of the month" message stuff from the tedium. Maybe I should go back to the standard: "Check as you post to an account, while posting to different accounts on different days." Just once, I'd like to have a consistent means of things that I can be happy with, thank you... I also think I'll be saving the monthly updates for the latest day in the month I have off from work. I dunno, I just feel too tired to detail this whole "life story" of what happened the past 30 days or so after a string of 10 hour days at a factory.

Anyhow, I've been thinking of getting a Fanfiction.net account and Newgrounds one lately-- but we'll have to see with FFN, seeing as I'm not purely a fanfiction writer. I may also update my Wattpad account, since that allows for both original and fan content, but it's a bit unmotivating and feels like a waste of time when you don't seem to get many hits. I mean, you don't water a dead and dying flower, so to speak.

Now, getting back into the habit of reading physical literature, even if comics than traditional literature (save for the idea of printing fanfictions to reduce screen tedium); I'm wondering if I should stick to comic-styled "animatics" or slide shows, whatever you wanna call them. The thing about comics is that you don't need the most dynamic of comic panels nor even the best art, you just need to know how to convey visual AND text-based story telling. I mean, look to Maus: Art Spiegelman's work isn't the most breathtaking nor, again, "dynamic" of visual spectacles, it's just simple cartoon animals in simple panels-- but damn, does it do its job of retelling his father's experiences and Art's own ones! I think that's the one mistake people make with visual media: they always assume it needs to look like the most stunning and innovative thing ever, but all we comic and graphic novel readers want is to just see what's going on. That's it. Sure, it can help you stick out, but why open a comic or something if I only want to look at pretty pictures? I can just look up images online for free.

I may soon open a Redbubble account, where I can sell simpler art pieces on merchandise, like what I see at Five Below or Hot Topic. Maybe nothing with Claire and other characters yet, not "iconic" enough to warrant demand, but something that definitely can connect with people better. Speaking of Five Below, let us thank that store for introducing me to the miracle of "Karma Energy Water": it's low calorie, low sugar, I actually know that the stuff I can't pronounce in the "ingredients" label is still beneficial to my body... Seriously, I think I'm starting to legitimately starve my body with pure water-based fasting, even if intermittently.

Well, that looks like that's all I have to say for now, but I'll still make updates with shorter things if I gotta! Tschuss.

Writing Tip: Type in Something that doesn't have a "Page Counter"...

I know how you must feel, fellow authors: "I need to make sure this chapter/story/etc. isn't too short, so it doesn't seem like I'm just rushing to get something out and not actually trying to make something 'good' that's passionate!! No one wants to read rushed slop!!!"

Well, that's a simple answer, believe it or not: don't write in something that counts pages. No Google Docs, no Word... Stick to things like Notepad (you can add the fancier stuff in Google Docs/Word), or you can get one of those typing devices like a Freewrite or Pomera. Sure, "word count" might also make ya concerned, but I personally find it easier to ignore length-related concerns when it's just telling me how many words I typed. I mean, that just says: "I've gotten THIS much down already, but I don't know how much more I 'need' to actually make for 'enough' pages-- so may as well type as much more as I want till satisfied!" True, maybe some of you are as stressed out by a word count, but ya never know till ya try.

Just remember: at the end of the day, it's all about what "feels" right as a chapter length or overall tale length. I mean, imagine how funny it'd be, for example, if a longer chapter from one character perspective lead to the shortest one ever from another's:

"... And I just know that after all of this, my dad's probably as pissed as he looks."

Just assuring anyone else who used to get scared by these, they are NOT wasps nor bees... They are called: "Hoverflies," and they do not sting nor even bite. So if you get visited by one hovering about (hence the name), don't panic-- even if they bend their thorax like they're preparing a stinger. Also, it's just some nice photos, this phone truly does earn bragging rights for its camera.

Time for Other Things, a "Corn Kidz 64" Content Hiatus!

I think I'm starting to get fatigued with CK64 stuff… Not that I suddenly hate Seve or Alexis (or Ally), I just feel like it's time to put my focus into other fandoms and original projects. I'm thinking of going a year and half at least, save for another anniversary piece on Oct. 23rd. Ya gotta continue the tradition of Alexis spreading her food-thievery from nachos to celebration cakes!! But other than that, I'm aiming to not craft CK64-based content till… Sometime in NEXT January, as in after the next year's? Well, with the exception of 2026's Oct. 23rd anniversary image also. I know 2027's start is a LONG time to wait to restart all that, but… So? I've probably produced enough CK64 content already to last SEVERAL years, while I've done squat with my OTHER fan-content and original content especially!

Plus, I'm getting real passionate and excited about working on "Scaredy Cubs," as it feels like an original idea that's really got a lot going for it! I also need to seriously do some "Ed Edd n' Eddy" content, too… I'm still eager to write that fanfiction of "Once Upon an Ed" where there's no personal exaggerations, just how I'd imagine the day actually went for the Eds until they wound up in Jonny's wall. You can't forget about the Murder Drones' AU of mine: "N's Pet," a re-imagining/re-telling that seems to interest MD fans. And Exhibit D of needing a hiatus: I'm seriously neglecting my new website, as well-- even though the point of switching to Square Space (or ONE reason…) was to make it easier and more fun to do!! The CK64 interest is just eating up way too much time and effort to where… Well, can I even call myself an ORIGINAL content-creator or multi-fandom content-creator, instead of just simply a "CK64 content channel/blog/etc."?

So, the following things will have to be postponed:

*Chaotic Quintet (The "Crack fiction" series involves Seve and Alexis as part of the titular quintet) *The Doe of My Nightmares… (That's a crossover of "Corn Kidz 64") *RIP(?) (Once again, involves Seve and Alexis as part of the starring group) *Fazbear Frights: In Your Dreams… (Seve and Alexis serve as the starred Fazbear Entertainment animatronics) *The "Official" PS2 Models of Seve, Alexis and Ally (I really need to get more familiar with Blender anyhow…) *Corn Kidz, Cornier Adventures (A fan-series based on the game)

… On top of anything else that needs to be halted as ideas for MUCH later. Holy crap, see what I mean? You need more than just one hand to count it all already! I'll admit, I may technically have Seve and Alexis appear in "Hunted like Dogs" (A Naruto Fanfic) and "Persona: The 2 Wolves," but those won't really "count" as CK64 content otherwise… Just a matter of: "Well, if I'm already making something not purely original, might as well throw in characters I like-- even if it's not done in an actual 'crossover' manner and just some alternative versions of them that exist in this different series' universe…"

So, 1/22/2027… Looks like I'll resume CK64-based stuff then!

The Doe of My Nightmares... (Ch. 12)

Chapter Summary:

Alexis begins her part in making Claire and Daisy what Vadrigar desires. Seve and his group set out to begin tracking down Vadrigar and find additional recruits for their cause. Ally finds herself breaking her promise to Seve and forming her own group, when Lyle and Lucy decide against staying at the monastery themselves.

Claire stood away from Alexis, watching as the doe crafts at the table: with her little black book opened, Alexis switched between glances at it and the mixture of her given chemistry set. Claire shakes her head and snaps her focus away, when Vadrigar himself snaps the stolen fingers of Steve's body.

"Look at ME..."

Claire didn't want to, but she knows there's far worse consequences than having to stare up at those terrifying red eyes... Her shaky blues gaze up at him, as he scowls down at her.

"THAT won't be any of your concern until later. Right now, we're going to work on the less... tricky means in creating the ideal version of you. First of all..."

Vadrigar then grips the top of Claire's head, making the pup instinctively reach. Vadrigar squints at her, tightening his grasp.

"Touch me, and I'll tear out that portion of hair from your scalp instead."

"You'll WHAT?"

Vadrigar returns Alexis' over-the-shoulder glare.

"Focus on YOUR task, 'dear.' Besides..." Vadrigar smirks and lifts Claire's chin with a finger, "You say it yourself: she's a good little girl, isn't she? She wouldn't dare aggravate me..."

Alexis huffs, but slowly turns around and refocuses on her task.

"Just know that you don't want to aggravate ME..."

Bold. Vadrigar will give her that, but she best not push her luck… "Useful" isn't synonymous with "necessary." Still, it's nice to know his latest partner isn't some sniveling and meek little whelp. Speaking of, he sneers at Claire again.

"As I was saying... The first thing we need to do is fix your behavior: you are no longer an average person, but a beast now meant to obey its masters. And animals don't stand tall, unless it's advantageous for a battle."

Vadrigar pushes Claire onto all fours, finally releasing her head afterward. She looks up at him, detesting how bigger he looks at her even shorter height.

"Good, you truly DO exude obedience. Next..."

Claire winces, as Vadrigar snatches her collar and transforms it into black leather with spikes. Then he approaches from behind and reapplies it to her neck, even happily treating it more like a noose: he stretches it across the front of her throat, before pulling the choking strap up and finishing the fastening-- and literally dropping her in the end

"There, now... You're already shaping up to be a promising little 'pet' indeed. Then again, you already were used to being one, weren't you? Don't expect any further coddling, however: you're no longer a lapdog, but a GUARD dog."

Claire stays on the ground, perking her ears down and wrapping her tail around herself. W-What was he going to make her fight against...? Claire's ears then shot up, as recognizable crying filled the air.

"Granny, Grandpa...!!"

Even Vadrigar and Alexis took notice: he smirks toward the direction, while she stops and looks over her shoulder.

"I'll be right back..." Alexis sets her equipment down, "It sounds like she needs me," she walks past Claire, summoning a new chain into her hand and around the collar, "Come on, sweetheart, I think she'll be happy to see you again, too."

"And you'd best stay on all fours..." Vadrigar follows, "In fact, I'd say it'd be best if that brat becomes acquainted with her new 'father.' The sooner she learns my rules as well, the better..."

"I don't think those were NACHOS we ate, Lex..." (PS2 Beta Models)

Yeah, so I admit to committing what is possibly a major taboo within the community: trying to make our beloved 64-bit game jump into the 128-bit visuals of gaming! I know, I know, it's called "Corn Kidz 64" because it's meant to replicate the Nintendo 64, named after that bit-count; but I cannot help but dare to make Seve and Alexis (and soon Ally) leap into the more Playstation 2 style of gaming graphics. I actually would've made a "beta Ally" model, too; but re-familiarizing myself with Blender was such a pain and it's irritating to work with poorly made models (I wanted to duplicate Alexis and modify her into Ally). So, I've retaught myself this program and now I just need to do more proper modeling and we can have our favorite goats not look like the poster children for: "Meth, not even never."

The Doe of My Nightmares... (Ch. 11)

Chapter Summary:

With the world now swarmed by Vadrigar’s forces, everyone needs to plan their roles more carefully-- including who should still go back out there. However, some may not be as cooperative… Meanwhile, Alexis adjusts to life at Vadrigar’s side-- with Claire stuck to hers.

Chapter Title: Time to Play Our Parts...

A mass demonic attack... Of course Vadrigar would take such an opportunity, with all worlds combined. At the very least, the monastery WOULD be among the safer shelters: with many white mages knowing of him and his powers, and the sturdy stone walls, no invasion would be as effective here. Unfortunately, they couldn't fit all of their rescued people within those very walls, so preparations needed to be made: the idea is a little "village" around the monastery, with accomodation for those who may not endure the cold as well as other species. An additional stone wall would also be built, to further extend external defenses and boost surveillance of the area.

What worried everyone the most wasn't how attractive an area filled with innocent lives would be to Vadrigar, but the fact he might have initiated the worldwide onslaught for more than simple sadism. The demons in Seve's town seemed as interested in obtaining the rainbow crystal, as they were executing anyone unlucky enough to be caught, after all. The mentioned buck sits at a long table, along with his allies, as they discuss the matter at hand. Arthur does his best to lead and maintain the conversation, though still grappling with the recent news of Billie's murder.

"He must've finally realized that we're collecting his 'possessions'..." Arthur sighs, "I guess it WAS a matter of time until he'd take drastic action... Though, I'm surprised it took this long for him to retaliate."

"As if it'll stop us!" Ally huffs, "If anything, that jerk's just making us want to take them even more!"

"Speaking of 'even more,' that's how careful we need to be!" Aristotle points out, "Vadrigar is dying, and our actions won't ease those concerns... He won't hold back any longer and will at least try to take all of us down with him."

"Is it even safe to continue searching for these black spheres and anything else useful?" Teddy asks, "The last thing I want to do is just take everyone to their deaths!" he looks down, "So many innocent lives have been lost already to what's now out there..."

... Including Billie. Arthur clenches his eyes tightly and massages his temples, trying to keep strong and despite the tear flow. Aristotle takes a deep breath, wincing as his own tears trail down his pink face. Seve grits his teeth, shifting his shadowed face toward the table and clenching his fist; while Ally offers a comforting grip on that very balled hoof. Thanks to her, Seve's able to recover quicker from the memory than the other two.

"Sorry, Ted, we still need to go out there..." he sighs, "If it makes ya feel better, your ship's probably the safest way to travel: it can fly, fire, and I bet it can even sail in water if we really had to."

Teddy chuckles, "Well, it IS still a ship at the end of the day..."

"So, where do we actually take it next?" Ally asks, "That jerk's probably hiding whatever stuff he's got left in someplace real secure..."

Seve's breath hitches at "we": as in, Ally still tagging along herself. Normally, he's all for the extra help in some well-earned butt-kicking, but now...

"We're not quite sure," Arthur sighs, "We don't even know if any remaining things of use could've been moved to Vadrigar's actual clutches, since this worldwide swarm could have been about collection as much as slaughter. At this point, we might be better off searching for HIS whereabouts instead."

"That might be tricky, as well..." Aristotle thinks aloud, "He obviously wouldn't choose someplace close by or something easily visible... Unless he'd try the 'hiding in plain sight' tactic, I guess?"

"Well, wherever he is, we'll find him!" Ally proclaims, "We should probably look for Alexis while we're at it, too... I'm not saying we have to get revenge or something," she quickly looks at Seve, then back at everyone else, "it just might be a bad idea to also let HER run around and do whatever!" she gazes down and sighs, "... She might even hurt more than just..."

Everyone stays silent for a moment, before Arthur resumes the conversation.

"Yes, we'll look for her too," he furrows his brow, "Vengeance definitely isn't what a white mage stands for, but she still needs to answer for what she's done and at least understand the damage she caused..."

"You venture through the hallways of what hell your apartment became. Soon, you happen across two... unicorns? They actually claim they're goats; although, you're not sure if they're the result of two kids gazing outside or creatures that somehow were birthed by this dangerous new environment. Either way, they're certainly far from the more hostile types of freaks and mutants (best not to let them hear you call them that...). Will you be willing to allow them a spot on your team and place in your apartment? The boy in the headband seems like the type who wouldn't hesitate to swing fists, while the girl... ... ... ... Uh, SHOULD she really be trusted with that shotgun, as just ONE concern over her?"

Well, what can I say? Seve and Alexis seem fitting as Xaria and Monty: it's that gothic and rebellious appearance (although Seve's more rebellious than Lexi). I also decided that Clip Studio Pro's filters are too tedious to work with and don't generally provide the appearance I want, so I did the shading and lighting by brushes this time. Also, don't worry about the poor little rat-baby, those of you who claim him as your son: Alexis wouldn't kick him or anything, and would downright adore him. ... Keep an eye on her if you DID kick her out, she'd probably try and secretly take him with her.

Monthly Update 6/30/25

Well, it's that time of the month again: not as in cramps nor all that other fun stuff, but time for me to once again share what's going on in the world of Claire Vlcek.

Firstly, I'd like to remind you all that "letter scams" are a thing, too: when scammers send in these letters for important things, like car warranties, to scare you into contacting them. Almost fell victim myself earlier this month, I'll admit, but I had the usual "divine protection" that exposed the scam.Always ask for the name of the "employee" you're speaking with, ask for the company they represent, and keep an eye open for how quickly they take your call. I mean, it's annoying when you have to wait for a representative and all, but the automated greeting voice lets you know you're calling someplace a tad more legit.

As for the letters themselves: no clear insurance place/company listed, usually involves intimidation tactics like legal consequences threatened, and they usually only list an email or phone number as a contact method. If you ever have a concern about warranties and all, I recommend just calling your actual insurance people. All it takes is a quick Google search of a listed number and all, too, to see if something's legit or associated with reported scams. Anywho…

I've also been trying to feel more motivated in doing purely original content-- but it's so hard! It's not just a matter of: "Content based on pre-existing franchises gets more views," but rather, "I love my 'Ed Edd n Eddy' and 'Corn Kidz 64'!" It also doesn't help that "The Doe of My Nightmares" has even ME on edge for what happens next! … I don't know if that's a concerning sign I'm egotistical about my own writing, but I'm pretty invested in seeing where it all goes myself-- especially with poor Claire and Daisy! I may try combating the disinterest in writing by going into more detail with pen and paper for plotting/dialogue, than just simply making an outline of how I want the chapters and whatnot to go.

If worst REALLY came to shove, and I'm left with no other choice to get the inspiration I need to know where to go, I could always ask ChaptGPT to kick my keister in some direction. No, I didn't say, "I'll just have it write the whole damn story for me," I said: "Give me an idea that I can go off of myself and play around with, until my creativity decides to stop taking a writer's block holiday and finally knows what the f$%^ to do." Seriously, I get the stigma about the lazier types of… "artists" and "writers"; but it's all about how you use a tool at the end of the day and whether you're taking credit for something you didn't actually do WHAT. SO. EVER. Man, we really gotta learn to stop jumping at people's throats and learn when someone is an actual "AI bro"… Let's just say, it's also good for double-checking something you feel could be… uh, problematic and all, on top of grammar and readability.

I'm also wanting to find some way to stay motivated on drawing purely digital, from start to finish, no more traditional-sketch-to-digital stuff. I'd still like to do marker art and all, though. With things like animation, I'd just imagine it'd be easier to keep it PURELY digital, y'know? I also hope my plan of drawing in Clip Studio Pro and then transferring images to Blender will be good enough. I once wanted to try Toon Boom, but-- as many useful and easier features as it may have --I don't use it enough to justify a yearly subscription and all. I love hand-drawn animation, and I wanna be fine with making things "imperfect" and all. Unfortunately, we DO live in a day and age where, despite claiming we'd all prefer humanity to AI, we still feel a need to mock anything less than perfect-- even outside of animation, like the infamous "art lore" stuff. Oh well, gotta get used to people ridiculing and ignoring your efforts if you wanna make it as an actual person of the ol' creative business.

Aside from all that… Not really much else to say. So, that's it for this report.

Hey guys, I recently switched my website to Square Space's domain than WordPress'! I can certainly say I'll get a lot more site work done now, thanks to SS indeed seeming easier to manage and all-- and there's no concerning "behind the scenes" stuff that makes me worry my account/site could be all for naught. I dunno, I recall this constant legal battle going on in the background...

So yeah, if you're looking to keep track of my work and all, here's another good way!

Okay, so helpful blender tip: make the models as BIG as possible when you work on them! That way, you don't get that annoying "slow down" of camera movement and whatnot when you need to zoom into certain parts. I've also managed to form a new tail for Alexis, and I can certainly say I'm getting better and more adapted at using Blender. Definitely was a smart idea to start with "beta models" instead. I just need to make it all bumpy/furry-looking again, then I can attach Alexis' tail and get to finally painting her-- after I get that skirt on her. Well, I'll make sure to duplicate her into Ally before that... Man, I can't wait to make a: "I don't think those were nachos, guys..." joke when it's all painted and stuff. I'm also trying "shading" instead of "auto shading," but I think I may go back to auto as it does look better. Slowly but surely, we're getting to the final thing! Then, with my better knowledge, I can make models worthy of the PS2 title.

Okay, so I had to increase the canvas size for the background, and now we just need to throw another knob onto one of the doors (plus some numbers). Then, It'll be time to move onto outlining, then coloring; yada, yada, yada... And yes, Seve and Alexis ARE short: Seve's 3'7" and Alexis is 3'8". However, I wouldn't deny that they'd be formidable foes, Seve HAS taken down a much larger owl before-- dream or not. Plus, Lexi there has a gun, remember?

Corn Kidz, Cornier Adventures: "A Found Hound (Ch.2)"

From now on, I'm drawing with stabilization off-- save for longer distances that will look all messy and stuff! Also, I can't tell which is scarier: Seve with a lighter, or Alexis with a gun? Now, it'll be time to move onto the hallway they're meant to be standing in. I haven't even colored and all yet, but I can already tell that these two would already do Xaria and Monty proud as equals.

Okay, it's official: from now on, I'm drawing WITHOUT "stabilization" being on (save for long lines like Alexis' chin/head). I dunno why, but there just seems to be a nicer appearance when it's not perfect lines everywhere; it's certainly a lot easier and more fun to draw without stabilization, though.

I recommend it, as it doesn't matter how perfect your lines are at the end of the day: all people really care about in art is an appealing aesthetic and so on. Sometimes, a little imperfection here and there can give quite the charm.
